About this Episode

The hosts discuss three classic episodes of Knight Rider, covering Michael's investigations into Central American gunrunners, a high-stakes alternative fuel race, and the murder of a prominent magazine publisher in Las Vegas. They break down the show's recurring narrative tropes, including the frequent use of predictable red herrings and the introduction of the new voice modulator for KITT. The conversation also touches on production details like the debut of the black and gold semi-truck and the shift in musical composers early in the series.

Bank Rider, a shadowy flight into the dangerous

world of a man who does not exist. in a world

of criminals who operate above the law. Welcome

to beyond the night brought to you by the GC

RN and audible comm I am one of your host Steve

John Mike and joining me is Dion the music man.

Hello, sir How are you good good good just tired

of all the rain and I wish it would stay away.

I'm just Yes Yeah, weather sucks So yeah, especially

when you don't have power for 12 hours Well,

you know try going without hot water for a week

and a half Yeah, enough about that. Enough about

that, yes. In between the release of episode

three and episode four, we had a fan of the show,

apparently, contact me on my Facebook fan page,

and we already replied to him. We replied to

Ryan in the form I made a YouTube video, because

he decided to be a mean ass. Ruben our childhood

yeah kind of put a damper. Yeah, they're not

kidding cars. Yeah cars death It's in the if

you guys go back a week and look at the Beyond

the night episode four post I did embed the video

in the episode four post So yeah, I hope everyone's

enjoying the show we are here to discuss three

more episodes of Knight Rider classic season

one Valves and Hail Marys are the life. Get out!

Get out! You got access to some of the best automatic

assault rifles around. You got anything particular

in mind? This weapon is one kit is to conventional

cars. Come on in. Make yourselves comfortable.

Hang on, you're finished, Kyle. This could be

tough. You'll have the contact's name. I'll be

going straight to my sister's wedding and reception.

Could you meet me there? Yeah. Father, I'm on

my way back from New Orleans. I haven't had a

chance to get together with Devin yet. But from

what he told me, it sounds like something the

police should handle. The attacks are hit and

run. The police, they ask questions, they take

pictures, they count bullet holes. Tuesday afternoon,

they shot my brother Miguel. Two men in a car

with automatic assault rifles. He was standing

in the middle of a gas station in south Houston.

You know, innocent people could have been killed.

But they don't care, these Corazonas de Piedras.

Corazonas? It's what my family calls them. Corazonas

de Piedras means hearts of stone. So first up

today we're gonna be talking about hearts of

stone Michael infiltrates a ring of gunrunners

selling advanced design rifles in Central America

The Corazon de Piedras or Piedras or whatever

some Anyone who speaks Spanish, can you help

us out with that? Something to do with a pie

it essentially translates to the The episode

title hearts of stone and you know and the stones

and all that and everything else The basic plot

of this is It's gangs You know, it's it's stones

versus Whatever else and it's like motor so I

don't think I don't think it's directly motorcycle

gang. Oh, it's gangs and gun runners and Everything

else and this chick Angie is caught up in the

middle of it and she's in love with Roberto Every

time I see that name. I keep flashing the water

boy. Oh You do It's it's just one of those connections

like okay. I don't mean to switch there, but

okay. This is where we're going Bobby is your

daddy. It's me is Roberto I'm staying in school

forget school stupid Yeah, so it's it's this

this priest that goes to Michael and says he

needs help his contact and blah blah blah and

Turns out that Roberto and Angie are in love

blah blah blah Some of these actresses that they

find for random women in these shows for the

80s are just yeah, but be nice I know Overall

pays the money Yeah, overall I could do without

the plot of this one. It just seems to be there

and the whole The gang episodes in the 80s are

so cliched They just are. It doesn't matter what

kind of gang it is. Could be a street gang, could

be a biker gang, could be turf wars. It just

doesn't matter. They're just way too cliched.

They are cliche. They're very cliche because

they seem to be hammed up for TV. Pretty much,

yeah. Did you have any thoughts on the plot?

Why did they destroy this again? I Mean honestly,

I mean, you know, okay, you're right Angie and

Roberto are in love and they're wanting to you

know They find Michael with a briefcase full

of money and you know Really? Okay. Yeah Yeah,

I mean the overall plot of this one is just it's

not it's not boring No, it's not boring at all.

And there are certain aspects of the episode

that I like. It's just the story is just there.

It's just meh. Okay. I mean, this is not what

I found is, and I will say this in future Knight

Rider or in future Beyond the Knight podcast

episodes is that what I found is while watching

episodes of this show, you either have really,

really awesome episodes like Trust Doesn't Rust

or White Bird, which we'll get to next week.

Right. Or, you know, you have really, really

awesome episodes. You have episodes where it's

just meh or you have utter shit like Forget Me

Not. It's like a three prong. It's like it's

like gold medal, silver medal and black shit

ash medal. I mean, there is no bronze. There's

no bronze here, huh? It's like it's like worst

good. Best and that's that's the way these episodes

are just kind of you know falling in line for

me They are there three categories and it's like

you can you you can pick one. I mean Like I said,

I I I do like plenty of stuff with hearts of

stone and I remember we'll get to that when we

get to the scanners on segment but the overall

story of this episode is just It's too hammed.

It's it's just hammed up. It's too easy You know,

it's almost like okay We don't even need to follow

this Yeah, really can actually change the channel

or turn off the DVD Yes, and we already pretty

much know what happens after about 15 minutes.

I Mean to me that's kind of how I looked at it

I was like, all right, and I watched the whole

episode once, you know when I got the DVD I mean

when I first saw it again I was like, okay, this

is I'm watching the first 15 minutes. I'm like,

all right I think I know what's gonna happen

here. Somebody's gonna get literally screwed

and Someone is nearly going to get killed. Yes,

so This shouldn't be a no -brainer Yeah, I'm

thinking in the back of my mind Glenn a Larson.

What the fuck are you doing? As much as we love

Glenn and as much as we love this show So far

in five podcast episodes, there have just been

some episodes of Knight Rider that are just like,

as you just said, what the fuck were you thinking?

It's like, oh my god. Why did you approve this

script? Exactly. Why did you approve this production?

Come on. Widows and orphans, Michael. Kit? Yes,

Michael. No monument. All right, it is time to

turn these scanners on. And this episode, as

bad as the story is, yay, the classic voice modulator

premieres in this episode. Yeah, it actually

does. Trust me, I would know because I haven't

noticed something like that. And I'm not complaining

about the first, you know, however many episodes

we've covered to this point. I'm just saying.

I never liked the original. The box, the square

box. The square box because it just, it didn't

show you like, okay, the voice modulator now

where it's the three bars and it moves up and

down and it shows, it shows you not only, even

though you don't see William Daniels, you hear

him, it shows you his voice inflections. It shows

you what maybe His face might even look as he's

saying these lines. Whereas the square box that

just flashed it's like It's just there. It's

just one big huge box. Yeah, but no this Yeah,

this was the first episode that the new the new

modulator was used Cuz cuz kit is like Michael

How do you like my new voice modulator? He's

like, it's nice, kid. Yeah. He was really excited

to get, you know, Kit was real pleased to get

an upgrade. Yes. As it were. I find this absolutely

funny because sadly, I live in this state, but

guns legally manufactured in Lexington, Kentucky.

I'm about an hour and a half away from Lexington.

Oh, no. That's scary. I honestly do think Michael

rather enjoyed that gunplay. I do too. When Devin

had him tested out. I'm sure if we actually,

at the beginning of the podcast, Ron, if I actually

had the notion to do this, I'm sure we could

have done a count throughout. Knight Rider classic

of how many times Michael either has in his hand

a gun or has used a gun because in his line of

work he's going to use a gun but you know being

able to use the 9x19 or whatever it's called

with rocket launchers and all you know god another

sad memory it reminds me of um the Annihilator

2000 uh... well i will follow you know my god

uh... uh... three -year -old why why do you have

a little stop there's he's got everything he's

got on this luncher it's got to need luncher

is tickets as does so funny uh... and again i

i have to praise uh... uh... stu And and his

music because I really enjoy the music that they

use in the drive -by scene And in the bar where

Michael meets Angie because in the drive -by

scene before he meets her that's done Is it that's

done That's not that is not Stu Phillips Stu

Phillips only did the first 13 13. Oh, I'm so

sorry. I retract that statement Steve Phillips

did the first 13 and then Don did the rest. Yes.

Yeah. Okay. I gravely apologize. Next thing I

know at three o 'clock in the morning, I'm going

to get a call from Don Pink. How dare you? I

know. I've spoken to Don. Believe me, he's nice,

but you don't want to piss him off. We'll talk

about that later. But that is Don's work. but

yeah but anyway it's like but see that's the

thing is like back then there was no internet

there was no yes there were credits in a show

but who frankly honestly pays attention to credit

nobody does who paid attention to credits back

then i mean you know um as far as seeing them

when the show was over and all that stuff and

it was like okay it's over next Yeah, exactly.

And it's like, you know, nowadays, of course,

we always pay attention to credits because we

want to know, you know, whether it's voice actors,

whether it's, you know, music people that we

like or whatever else. Nowadays, we always pay

attention to credits. But for me, I didn't even

realize that. I mean, I know you had told me

at Roll Times that that Stu Phillips had only

done the first 13 episodes, but I think it's

because of the way that Don Peake came in and

just continued the trend of awesome music that

Stu had set out to have. And I think that Don

working in collaboration with Glenn Larson, I'm

sure Glenn probably told him, hey, sure, create

your own stuff. But I mean, it's very rare at

all that I... But it was also Robert Foster as

well. Yeah, exactly. I mean, you know, that's

the thing is like I didn't even notice the like

I didn't even know Usually I will notice a difference

in composer like me though because you and I

probably you know as kids I mean you're you know,

we didn't really care I mean now when I first

when I saw the episodes, I'm just like, okay,

it's got music I didn't know that there were

two composers for Knight Rider until years later

I knew Stu Phillips had done the first 13, but

the only reason I even knew about that was because

Don told me himself Yeah I was like, okay! Right,

right. But my point here is that the music when

they did the drive -by scene before he meets

Angie in the bar, it was just... I love the high

action tones and I also love the subtle stuff

as well. I'm glad they only did this briefly

and they didn't really pay too much attention

to it but that blonde ain't nothing but trouble.

In the bar and she says hi to him and then the

other guy just kind of stares at him But then

again Michael has a knack for getting in trouble.

Yes. Yes. Yes very much so In yeah in the warehouse

scene Michael proceeds with caution the only

I can think of it's a trap There was a title

shot scene. I forget which one it was, but right

after that there was a title shot scene. Michael

essentially almost blows his own cover because

he doesn't recognize Emil. And that's another

thing I have to say about - I didn't understand

that! What was it with, okay, he uses someone's

name who's in jail and then two days later the

person actually shows up. Well what happened

there was and Devon kind of explains it was that

he escaped from right? But the thing is you would

think that Devon and Bonnie and whoever else

helps Michael You know create his you know covert

identities here If he has to go undercover you

would think that they would do enough research

and keep on the ball With you know that's the

same thing with what happened in Oh god, what

was the episode? We just did it uh, the one with

dugan Um, you know the same thing happened there

and it's like really they're pulling that again

that dead maneuvers Yeah, deadly maneuvers. Yeah.

Yeah Yeah, yeah, that was very true. Yes, you're

right You would you would think they would have

paid attention to that but they didn't but you

know Yeah, it's hollywood Very very sad I do

love the fact that kid just turbo boost into

the back of the truck. That was awesome. That

was great. What I would have wished they had

done is actually use that later in the title

shots. Yeah. And then my final note was the mean

machine goes down. What do you got for scanners

on oh my goodness, well I Do like the fact that

there was suspense here a little bit of suspense

kind of I do like the fact that we actually do

get to see Kit and Michael a little I think I

think they were out on the road a little more

and for all you women who like Hasselhoff Yes,

you do get to see him shirtless. I thought I

would just point that out So, you know, I I know

I'm I'm just helping the women I'm helping the

women that listen to the podcast What can I say

Mike is gonna kill me? I don't care But no, honestly,

um, I I think it's a double standard because

we never see Bonnie shirtless or April No, we

don't but what are you gonna do? But in all honesty,

um, there was suspense here there was a lot of

great action scenes What I do like and I kind

of thought that this was a funny moment was that

it was funny But scary was that Angie tries to

take advantage of Michael Yeah That we you know

when when when she saw the briefcase full of

money and you know, they escaped with the helicopter

and You know kit has to rescue him from the the

place he's locked in Michael's locked in and

things like that. And of course you hear Michael

say you stop that chopper and I swear I will

build a monument to you And then just the other

part of it I think the last part of it that I

wrote down was kit. Yes, Michael no monument

So that's that's what I have for scanners on

I you know, that was awesome It was great I'm

trying to remember if it's this one and I it

probably isn't No, I don't I don't think it is

what? No, I I I thought there was something it's

in a future episode where Michaels in jail that

I don't have a problem with it. It's just something

I have to point out when we get to it. I don't

know which episode it is though, so I can't remember

off the top of my head. So let's turn these scanners

off. I only have two for this. I mean, I like

the episode overall. There are just a couple

of things that nag me. Seriously, she's double

-crossing the bad guys and running away with

the money. Come on, people. Really? Yeah, that

was just too easy. Yeah. I mean, that's just

like... And then you know laughing this what

kind of dumb hussy runs out in the middle of

a gunfight and expects to save her one true love

And then you know Michael of course being that

the you know, it's not the hero part. It's you

know, he has to Save her life, you know, and

that that's what his job is. He has to save her

from the gunfire that's going on Yeah Because

they got ambushed This the whole episode just

takes Honestly when we get when we get to the

end of this podcast I'm probably gonna end up

rating this a three simply because two points

get taken off because of the horrible acting

from this chick and the lame plot line of her

double crossing I didn't get it. Yeah. You got

anything that you didn't like about this one?

The same thing. Why would you run out in the

middle of a gang fight knowing that you could

be targeted? Yeah. And the whole double crossing

thing. And the other thing I didn't like was

that she was wanting to get away with all this

money of Michael or, well, not really Michael's,

but the foundations so they could start this

new life together. you know and you know Michael

looks in the briefcase oh great how much is gone

and she's like $400 and some change you know

helicopters aren't cheap you know that's like

okay seriously do you understand the problem

that's at hand here so apparently not yeah apparently

not I gotta get some sleep I'm running a race

tomorrow what if I give you a reason to stay

up win this race with one booster tied behind

his back. Your job is not to win the race. I

believe we're being shot at Michael. Accidents

are a part of any race. Here's the good sports

machine. Our saboteur may be planning a few new

surprises for the last leg of the race. Up next

is give me liberty or give me death. Who the

hell would want liberty? Someone is sabotaging

the cars in an alternative fuel race. So Michael

joins the pack to flush out the saboteur In this

one you have what is it six? Yeah six cars that

are running on alternative fuel One is running

on alcohol One is running on methane gas Michaels

and kid is running on liquid night night Liquid

hydrogen I think it is I Like the plot of this

it's it's interesting the action is pretty cool

it's a pretty damn good episode, but Good lord

is Liberty annoying She's not as annoying and

outraging as Mickey is but she kind of touches

the verge of annoyance Yeah, but she's a reporter.

So they're they're all annoying When they're

going after a story, they're all annoying because

they have that, you know, they have that instinct

of, you know, Oh my God, let's get this before

it disappears. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Did you

have any thoughts on the overall plot of this

one? Overall plot is good. There's action, you

know, I mean, I'll, you know, there's like you

said, Liberty is annoying. And coaxing Michael

to stay up all night knowing he's got a race

to run Yeah, okay, it's a good thing it's a family

show because um, you know if she started sliding

down yeah Yeah, that's exactly why yes But no,

like we said, the plot is good. It's got some

good action. I really have no overall issues

with the plot of this one. I don't either. So,

there you go. Terrific. Listen, when you finish

up work tonight, how about you and I going out

for a little dinner? I'd love to, Michael, but

I'm spending the night with Kit. Oh, well. You

two have a real good time. First, I have to recharge

his components. Then I have to convert the engine

to run on liquid hydrogen. Then I have to flush

his systems and adjust his timing. Recharge his

components, flush his system. Kit, don't you

dare take advantage of her tonight. I won't.

Would you get out of here, you yo -yo? Kit, I

hope you're not picking up his warped sense of

humor. I'm trying my best not to. Good. Kit,

try a little harder. Let's turn the scanners

on Finally Bonnie is warming up to Michael. Holy

crap. She actually laughed You noticed that too

Yeah, I mean it's you know, they've had sexual

tension up to now you could cut it with a knife

Yeah butter Melted butter. Yes. Yes it is And

I love how Kit just shut Liberty down because

of the darkening windows. And back then, in 82,

83, I don't think I even heard of. I mean, even

the cars that my mom and dad would drive, or

even cars that I would see on the road, I didn't

see a lot of cars with tinted windows. Not till

the late 80s. Yeah. Yeah. um the bullet just

bounced off a kit's tire now i'm not sure if

i really i mean i i thought it was funny because

the molecular bonded shell is supposed to protect

all of kit but you would think that there are

some weak points like if you you know hit his

undercarriage or something like that you know

you you would think that there's at least one

or two weak points on kit and just the whole

thing of um... you know the bullet hitting the

tire and just bouncing off i don't know i kinda

wish it might have made it go flat and then just

kit just reinflated it or something yeah it's

not a bad thing i just thought it was a funny

thing where it's like hmm does make you wonder

does make you wonder spun out is dorothy maybe

she'll end up in oz Oh my yeah and and again

with all of that's another thing that one of

the things that really is starting to kind of

piss me off about Knight Rider episodes is the

constant red herrings in episodes where in this

one you have the Arab guy who is the red herring

because the saboteur is still out there and then

you know that that's just like oh come on can

we get away from that already we've seen that

yeah And that that explosion when the the booze

car exploded in the rednecks Sadly passed away.

Yes That explosion was damn cool. Yeah, it was

because it wasn't just your average explosion

The hood of the car was on fire and then boom

the rest of it goes. Yeah, I Got something for

scanners on and I found it funny and it was when

Liberty was trying to talk with the gag on her

mouth Yeah You know, she's trying to yell at

Michael and kids like Michael she would like

you to take the gag off and Michael's like oh

No, you know, this is the first conversation

I've had with you that I could get a word in

edgewise Yeah, yeah, that was great Could have

told you this from the almost almost the very

beginning that the the cable mogul was behind

it to increase ratings Yeah, that just Who knew

you could use cable as such a dangerous game

No, just to increase your ratings Yeah, and then

I love the line at the end when dr Dr. Kepler

calls and is wondering if Michael is entering

the race again. And Michael says, yes. And says

no. Oh. And you get that freeze frame on Devon.

Yeah, yeah, exactly. That was awesome. What else

did you have that you liked about this one? It

was, you know. Just very funny because the fact

that they actually would have to, you know, run

the race again and Michael would have to give

his trophy back. Yeah, that was kind of interesting.

You know, and you see Devin with this flustered

face and Michael's like, I'm sorry, I won the

race, but you know, you told me to do this and

I did it. And Devin's like, I have no intention

of discussing this case ever again. So, you know,

it was Edward at his comical moment. Yes. Yes,

it was. All right. So let's turn these scanners

off. And I actually looked this up. It's been

10 episodes. This is episode 15. It's been 10

episodes since Slime and Sammy's. But I don't

know. It's just one of my One of my notes was

another racing episode. It's not that I don't

like them. It just I don't know. It just seems

like between I'm probably missing one. It seems

like we've had more racing episodes than just

this one in slamming Sammy. No, these were just

the two. Really? Weird. These were just the two.

The thing I will say about the scanners off is

that if you were paying attention, you could

tell the plot was going to twist. And also who

knew that a that a cable company Would be would

be behind a sabotage for ratings Yeah, that just

seemed kind of far -fetched to me Because you

wouldn't expect that you would not expect that

Yeah, I can agree with that it just but when

you know when it boiled down to it when Michael

finally figured out As far as you know, okay,

none of these obvious suspects are You know behind

it and then oh the letdown of it was the cable

mogul that did it This is kind of a letdown yeah,

I agree with you there Go ahead good. No good.

I was gonna say it just seemed you know, like

I said when that plot when the plot twisted And

you were like, okay, this was good until this

switch Yeah, why you know, why couldn't you guys

have figured this out sooner and then maybe gone

with a different plan or Something that like

that. Why did you have to switch the plot around?

Yeah, you know The other one for me that I did

not like about this and this is just kind of

a nitpick Why when the race is starting Does

the announcer say the drivers all seem to be

okay as if they were in an accident already?

Yeah, I didn't get that either. I didn't understand

that it's like It's like ladies and gentlemen,

we're about to start the race and the drivers

all seem to be okay Wouldn't you have said something

like the drivers seem to be all ready to go or

the drivers are you know? Ready for racing or

you know something to where it's like doesn't

make you think that they've already been in an

accident right like it's something you would

say if you know there was a crash on turn four

or something. Do you have anything else with

this one as far as stuff you didn't like? It's

a small nitpick. I can understand why this was

done, but you know how reporters are when accidents

happen and people are, you know, you come up

on a scene and you're asked to report on things

and you get Shots or pictures if you will and

that is when Liberty when the car explodes From

the and I forget the names, but it's the car

that was run on alcohol The rednecks, you know

Liberty gets her camera out, you know Michael

is talking to kit Devin rather and kit, you know

informs Michael that that was no accident and

he tells Michael what happened Liberty is standing

there taking her camera out and snapping all

of this while this is going on and Michael says

is that all the is that all to you that this

is a hot picture in a cover story I Thought that's

my small nitpick about it I understand why he

did it because it's like this is more serious

than just you you know, just you yeah Like I

said, it's a small nitpick, but I see why he

did it. That's really all I have for just that

there. I'm glad he did that, but I think, again,

and I also think too, I think that's where the

plot begins to twist, is after that segment,

after that scene. No, yeah, I can agree to that.

And yeah, after that scene and really after the

scene where she's hiding in the bar and she finds

out. Obviously, that's really where we find out

that it's the cable mogul and it's like, yeah,

really. OK, this is going to be really predictable

now. You didn't even have to watch the rest of

it to know. Nope, not at all. I programmed Kit

with everything imaginable on Royce's publishing

empire. Including the centerfolds? Why would

I wouldn't give to have one of these? That's

handing the man's death into a circus. You sure

you can handle me? I'll do the champagne and

then we'll see what else comes to mind. I have

an unidentified speeding object on runway two.

And finally up today we have the Topaz connection

the murder of a men's magazine publisher leads

Michael to Las Vegas and expose the magazine

and an Expose the magazine was about to print

soft porn soft essentially Not even that I mean

this is essentially this is a Hugh Hefner story

No, I'm dead serious. The guy here, you know,

he reminds me of you. He does. Yes. You know,

they even, you know, have a scene where girls

are, you know, on the lawn playing beach volleyball

and are playing with, you know, a beach ball

and a volleyball net. You know, they even have

a shoot. Yes. I'm kit. I mean, you know, this

is a this is a you after a story. And I say soft

porn because it, you know. Obviously, it's a

family show, but yeah, they're kind of stretching

the boundaries with this one a little bit Talk

about being young and the rest Without snapper

foster But yeah the just to give people a you

know, the main plot is is basically uh... philip

rice is murdered it looks like he you know is

you know cotton bed with some strange woman and

mobile uh... his daughter lauren it wants to

find the truth and because philip wanted to change

the way expose a is He wanted to change the image

of escape and wanted to go into a new direction

and people apparently didn't want that and etc

etc etc I mean overall the plot was really well

done. Yes it was. You know very very solid plot.

Do you have anything else you wanted to say about

the plot? Well for the first time we actually

get to see Michael kind of unconscious. That's

not necessarily true. Well in this episode, I'll

put it that way because remember like during

the plot, you know when they're when Lauren gets

captured, you know, it was a great plane, you

know the company plane and you know, she says

Don I think I think that's what the name she

was saying and yeah, you know you see this guy

I'm afraid Don couldn't make it and you see her

scream and struggling And Michael is trying to

get onto the plane and stop the plane, and it

didn't work. And you kind of see... When he falls,

yeah. When he falls, and you see them kind of

fade into the... you know, back at the semi.

Were they using the semi then? No, they weren't.

Were they using the semi in this episode? Yeah,

they were. Okay. When you see them back in the

semi, and, you know, he's just kind of looking

around, you know, you hear Devin, Michael. Michael.

You know, and it's like... Oh, yeah, but that's

not the first time in the series that he's been

unconscious Honestly, I would have to say last

week's episode with a plush ride when they chloroformed

him. That's right So I mean because they chloroformed

him put him in kit and he nearly went off a cliff

Yeah, and they had to he had to rotate his turbo

booster kit had to rotate his turbo booster to

stop Yeah Yes, you're right. I you know what

I did completely forget about that for the reminder.

You're getting old, we know. So are you. You're

older than I am, thank God. You know what? I'm

not looking forward to my birthday in a couple

of weeks. Honestly, that was kind of... And it's

not a nitpick thing, but... The the unconscious

part of when you wouldn't you just kind of see

the slow fade into the semi and yeah things like

that and they're just kind of looking or you

know, he's looking around like How and I could

be wrong but is this like I Don't know if it's

this episode or if it's a future episode that

we'll review in in in the upcoming weeks was

this the first episode that the The black and

gold semi was used because before this believe

it was Well because before this they had the

white I mean I mean the interior of the semi

and both both of them look the same But on the

outside it was different right the outside the

old semi was just white was just a white white

I think this is when they started using the gold

the black and gold yeah semi Very very cool upgrades

So let's turn the scanners on as I already mentioned

Philip Royce is essentially a dead ringer for

a very young Hugh Hefner Let's see Unidentified

speeding object on runway 2. Did you see it?

I saw it, but I don't believe it Vegas sightseeing

and gambling oh yeah uh -huh well that was a

high -tension action scene falling off a moving

plane and all yeah that was pretty damn cool

it was yeah that was pretty damn cool was neat

my I think one of my scanners on That I liked

was the fact that Lauren was actually surprised

to see Michael in Vegas. How did you get here

that fast? It's like growth. Yeah. Oh, man. It's

one of my favorites. And the fact that they,

you know, shared some birthday cake, you know,

because it was her birthday. It was supposed

to be her birthday. That was kind of a touching

moment, but it was also sad. Oh, yeah, because

her her dad actually remembered this time and

had a gift waiting for yeah, and he always forgot

every other year He always forgot so he didn't

forget this time. So that was a good a good moment.

I I find this absolutely funny but What month

were you miss November? Why the birthstone for

November is topaz. He thought more of you than

you know Then what I liked about the episode

is that they throughout the episode they have

the running gag of you can see her face of oh

my god Yeah, well right, but in the episode they

have this running gag of both in LA and in Vegas

topaz enter six digit security code or six digit

code or whatever else and and You know, I like

how they what I liked about it was that they

dragged it out to the very almost the very end

where it's like Michael's like 36 24 36 and you

see Devon 36 24 36 And Bonnie's like, oh give

me November, you know, Devon is still shocked

by the matter like What the hell is this? You

know so and the fact that I also liked it because

you know They can actually you know Devin and

Bonnie in this episode. They all worked together.

It wasn't just Michael working in this episode

alone With it was all of them working together

Devin and Bonnie trading off Reading since they

were both speed readers in this episode Yeah,

it was But again as much as I like the episode

again it comes down to and this isn't me jumping

ahead to scanners off, but it's like Don't know

it just I like the plot of it, but just the ending

is just kind of I don't know Did you have anything

else that you liked about this one? The plot

was great. You know, you had some great scenes

As I said soft porn at the beginning of this

recording but in all honesty, you know great

great plot I I understand the story very well,

but I kind of I kind of liked the ending when

the guy got knocked out by Michael Kind of interesting

and the fact that you know The person that she

trusted the most Was you know, it turns out to

be her father's killer That that was what surprised

me, you know for this episode and I have heard

of things happening that way But you don't think

of somebody killing someone else that you've

known for a long time, unless it is for money.

You know, in this, you know, in this episode,

that's what happens. So I think that's about

it for this, you know, this not this episode,

but this Scanners on piece that I've done is

on. Yeah. The last one I had written down was

stunt driving at its finest. And oh, man, that

turbo. Wow. Great. That was just. Yeah, I mean,

what about that one? There's. As much as there

are a bunch of Knight Rider episodes that are

complete throwaways or episodes that we liked,

but didn't really, we probably would never watch

again. Topaz is one of those ones where I can

watch it again and still be surprised with it.

Yeah, you never get tired of it. No, never get

tired of it because you know, you're even though

you've seen it a hundred times You can wipe it

from your memory in a matter of speaking and

say what's gonna happen now, you know Yeah, and

and oh my you know, and when you get to the twist

of the plot, it's like, oh my god Yeah, it's

a shock. It's basically shock. That's across

your face. Yeah So let's let's turn the scanners

off, you know as we send the scanners on this

was an overall very enjoyable episode I really

only have one nitpick which is Used the VIP parking

really Michael went along with that. He never

lets anyone drive kit No, we've seen in past

episodes with chavalets that Kit just takes over

and will find his own space. And in future episodes,

we'll see Kit saying to children where it's like,

let's keep it a secret, just our secret and don't

tell anybody. And it's like, if Kit is supposed

to be the super secret car. And yes, we've seen

also in episodes where Michael finally at some

point reveals Kit to a passenger, no matter who

it is. But if he's supposed to be some secret,

why would you use? The the the VIP park that

just especially when that car stands up with

a red scanner going across back and forth Yeah,

it's grill. The other thing I a nitpick that

I have is a scene where Lauren is drugged. Yeah,

Lauren is drugged and I mentioned this part in

scanners on where You know Paul the person who

plays Paul, you know admits to Lauren that she

killed her father I probably should have saved

it for this one, but you know for scanners off,

but I didn't but it's when Lauren is drugged

and They're asking about topaz, you know, do

you know the access code? That's like, okay,

you're asking her drug Yeah Seriously What is

the point of that? Well, they had to get the

information out of her. Well, true. But OK, that's

that's all fine and dandy. But she's not going

to know that while she's drugged. You can't think

while you're drugged. Well, they gave her a truth

serum. And yeah, and obviously she didn't know

it, which she told the truth. She didn't know

it right. So but I guess that's kind of my small

nitpick was. Yeah, I didn't really care for her.

The whole thing with them drugging her I didn't

care for that no not at all and then to find

out that the dude is a You know a pharmaceutical

Come yeah, he runs a pharmaceutical company These

like okay, I know I know and I understand we're

not gonna get a car or we're not gonna get a

Garth and Goliath every episode but some of these

villains are just lame and dumb and also a lot

of them are so cliched and this was like so cliched

the whole the whole thing of that Royce wanted

to change the change the direction of the magazine

i liked that too he wanted to write an expose

but the expose is going to you know Uncover this

fraudulence at this drug company and it's going

to essentially put people in jail and blah blah

blah And then it you know, oh it ends up costing

him his life Yeah, you know it almost cost his

daughter her life Yeah, it just wasn't just like

the whole reveal is like I saw that a mile a

mile away, you know It's like, you just, it was

very predictable. Yeah, it was. And like I said,

that was the, uh, scan, you know, scanners off

segment that I had was the fact that, um, it

was, you know, like I said, I understand why

they did the truth serum thing, but I guess my

whole thing was, okay, look, if you're going

to do that, why not ask her while she's awake?

Not awake. She wasn't knocked out, but while

she was alert, while she was alert and could,

you know, if she really, you know, If her captors

if as it were we're gonna treat her with respect

and whatnot Ask for the code and if she doesn't

have it. She doesn't have it. You don't need

I guess my thing is Bottom line you didn't need

a drugger for that Yeah, that's true Very very

true. So we are we're gonna go to some ads y

'all also gonna hear some some audio clips and

different quotes from this From the episodes

that we talked about today, and we'll be back

after that to close the show. Okay. Yes Shut

Alright file thoughts and ratings. We're gonna

start with hearts of stone. What do you give

it? Four out of five I'm gonna give it a three

out of five really. I yeah, I just can't I mean

I guess it's kind of four and a half Maybe but

it's it almost reaches a five, but I just have

to say four for me You know it just and it has

to get a three for me because it's not It's so

predictable and just I can't get past the whole

Her Angie trying to double -cross and her running

out into the into the gun, but I can't either

She could have killed. Yeah, exactly What about

give me liberty or give me death? What do you

give that one three? Yeah, I'm I'm the same way

I mean, I I think the alternative energy thing

was a nice a nice, you know slightly different

premise on a racing episode, but Overall it just

I don't know I just found the episode kind of

What about topaz? Oh man Three and a half I can't

believe I'm saying that but it's like I mean

it don't get me wrong. I understand the episode

But three and a half. I mean, I think and I think

it's because of the issue with the ending Not

not not the ending but one of the scenes, you

know where we talked about it in scanners off

Where I mentioned it in scanners off where they

where they drugged Lauren For the access code

to tell past but I think three and a half from

me Yeah, I'm gonna give it a four I can take

one point off for that and you know, I mean overall

it was an enjoyable episode So what what do you
