About this Episode

P.O.W.C.A returns to Phineas and Ferb Season 3 after a three-year hiatus, discussing the two-part premiere episodes. Run Candace Run features super-speed boots and a catchy titular song, while Last Train to Bustville brings Candace inspiration from train conductor Glenda. The hosts break down the plots, missing series staples, guest voice talent including Joan Cusack and Tina Fey, and give ratings to each episode.

Hello, nerds! This is Jesse from Rock Sugar,

and you're listening to the Geek Cats Radio Network.

Keep it right here. Yeah, I need a laugh at the

holidays. There's a hundred and four days of

summer vacation, then school comes along just

to end it. So the annual problem for our generation

is finding a good way to spend it. Like maybe

building a rocket or fighting a mummy or climbing

up the Eiffel Tower. Discovering something that

doesn't exist, or giving a monkey a shower! Surfing

tidal waves, creating nanoblocks, or locating

Frankenstein's brain! Finding a dodo bird, painting

a continent, or driving our sister insane! As

you can see, there's a whole lot of stuff to

do before school starts this fall! So stick with

us, cause Phineas and Ferb are gonna do it all!

So stick with us, cause Phineas and Ferb are

- Hello and welcome to episode 61 of the podcast

organization without a cool acronym brought to

you by the GeekCast for Radio Network. I am of

course your host, JFJone Mike. Joining me as

always is Peacock or Michael. It's like we've

been doing this for three years. Oh wait, no,

we haven't. Not in the last three years. Sadly,

no. Hey, how's it going? Hey, how's it going?

It's going. Sometimes I wish it would stop. We're

back, and this is the start of season 3 of Phineas

and Ferb here on Pauka. I'm just gonna go ahead

and say this because it was in the original intro.

It is the 61st day of summer. Even though it

really isn't, but it really is. If that makes

any sense. It's too cold this summer. I know,

right? Did it snow last week? Christmas vacation,

here we come! This means it's the day that the

GCRN finally gets back to our cartoon review

podcast for Phineas and Ferb here inside 2020

because everybody needs something to smile about

this year and we hope we bring some joy to some

people, too many people, but two people that

probably listen to this show. Who knows, I actually

don't even know how many numbers this show gets

if it got any numbers at all in the past 60 episodes

it had. Anyway, today we're gonna talk about

Run Candice Run and Last Train to Bustville.

We're leaving in 15. Yeah, I've got nothing better

to do. What about that Jeremy thing? Don't you

have a catchphrase? So up tonight we have run

Candice run and the last train to Bustville now

I actually forgot how we were supposed to do

this show because I Haven't watched or done anything

with Phineas and Ferb since it ended and I haven't

done anything with these scripts since we stopped

doing them three years ago So it's gonna be interesting

first up Run Candice Run. The plot description

is as follows. Thank you to everyone over at

the Phineas and Ferb wiki for all the hard work

that they do. Phineas and Ferb's newest invention

is a pair of boots that make the wearer extraordinarily

fast. Candice decides to wear them so that she

can be in two places at once. At Jeremy's family

picnic where she runs into Mrs. Johnson, and

also at the library where she promised mom she

would read to the kids. Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz's

building is put up for sale, so he tries to convince

the prospective buyers. Where am I supposed to

get that much money on short notice? I'm sorry,

Mr. Doof Schmid, those are the terms of your

loan. The name is Doof and Schmertz, like in

Doof and Schmertz? Now what? Oh, it's you. I'm

sorry, Perry the Platypus, I'm going to have

to take a rain check. You see, I'm having a bit

of a financial crisis and I'm afraid I won't

have time for our evil scheme today. To not purchase

it, pretty much. Prospective buyer Annabelle,

who turns out to be long -lost relative of the

Johnson family, that it's not worth buying. Spoilers.

Well, this show is so old at this point, spoiler.

Really, seriously. Like, I know plenty of people

have not seen Phineas and Ferb, but come on.

It's a cartoon review show of a - That was the

big reveal at the end. Well, yes, that's true,

but, you know... I assume people that are listening

to this have already seen the show. What did

you think of this? specific plot for Run, Candice,

Run. Yeah, I like this one. I think it was a

good season opener. Yes, I love how it just feels

like, oh, hmm, there's gonna be a lot of irony

here. And the one thing I have to call into question

is, why is a J the birthmark and does all, do

all the Johnson family members have it on their

arm? Like, they made this huge, grandma Hildegard

or whatever her name is, raise her - It's the

mark. Like, it's, it's, she's got the birthmark!

And I'm like, uh, okay, is this a family crest?

It's just a J. I mean, lots of people use J's.

It's like the omen. You gotta hold him down and

carve a little hair off his scalp to see it.

Yeah, apparently. But no, like you said, I like

this one as well. It's interesting and it's fun.

Last train to - A catchy song? Did it have a

catchy song? It had a catchy song! Yeah... I...

mmm... Oh yeah, yeah, the Run Candice run. Yes,

yes, yes. It's just the same thing over and over

and over and over again. And it was more of a

visual site gag, like a little montage. You have

her destroying things. She runs. But I mean,

the song itself was like, yeah, I can dance to

this. Run Candice, run. Run Candice, run. Run

Candice. There's even in, once again, thank you

to the Phineas and Ferb Wiki, there's even the

instrumental version of watching and waiting

in here too. I don't think I caught that, but

then again, it's been three years since I've

been watching and waiting. Mm -hmm. It's when

they were just gonna sit there and watch and

wait for something to happen to the thing that

they built in the backyard. I believe it was

a... Oh, what the hell was it? It was the big

obvious ride or whatever it was. Anyway. Go ahead.

Big obvious I thought they were shoot super shoes.

Yes. I'm saying where where watching and waiting

comes from Was in the episode where they were

Candace was like you make a big and obvious ride

make it big and make it obvious and then we'll

wait for it to Uh, the plot for Last Train to

Bustville is as follows. While visiting their

grandparents, the kids decide to create and race

giant hot air balloons. Meanwhile, Candice is

inspired by a train engineer, Glenda's can -do

attitude, and decides to give up on busting her

brothers. On the other side of town, Dr. Doofenshmirtz

finds a dodo bird egg and is convinced that it

is a fierce bird monster that can help him take

over the tri -state area, but discovers the exact

opposite when the egg hatches. Oh! God! Hilarity

ensues. Yes. Um... Oh, wait a minute. Oh, it's

Bustsville. Yeah, it's Bustsville. Yeah, I saw

the wrong one. Oh, no. What did you watch? Never

mind. Now, see, if you would have just... If

you would have listened to me and not listened

to your wife and just logged on to Disney Plus

with the profile I created for you, you could

have watched the correct episode. Which episode

did you watch? I was alluding to an adult movie.

Oh no. It just went right over your head. I'm

so sorry. Oh, bus spill! No, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no You're getting

better at this. I know, right? What did you think

of last train to Pornville? Everyone, you remember

Glenda? Of course! Candice, Glenda was the first

female train conductor in the entire Tri -State

area. But alas, the train is being decommissioned,

and today is Glenda's last trip. And you know

what? I'm gonna take her up Gearheart Summit!

But nobody's ever taken a train up Gearheart

Summit. It's too steep! Well, that's what they

say. But I'm not one to give up. It's just like

when you became a conductor. That's right. They

told me to give up. But I never give up. I'm

not the kind of person to give up. Well, I could

have proved that an old train can make it up

those tracks. You guys want to come with me?

We should all go. Sounds like fun. OK. Train

leaves the station at 10 sharp. See you there.

Isn't she something, Candice? That's a woman

who would never give up. Busville. Uh -huh. You

know, honestly, I did not like this one as much

Yeah, it was not as as good as run Candice run

Yeah, the jokes didn't quite pan out as much

as I you know, it's like what you doing about

five knots You know Yeah, it's yeah and the dodo

bird didn't quite hit the mark as much as I thought

it was going to it's like The nerf nerf bird

yeah, I think the best part is the very end with

the bird The after yeah before it goes to the

Disney Channel logo You might have to remind

me oh You can't expect something to just fall

out of the sky yeah That's right. Yeah, this

was the first you can't expect something to just

fall out of the sky and then it does Yes, absolutely

the first of the season. Yeah, you're right I

I did I did write that down because I thought

that was clever So you bought a museum of biological

oddities, but you didn't get any biological oddities

What There it is so yes yes we do and no no we

don't for those that don't remember from three

years ago like us yes yes we do moments are things

we liked about the episode and the no no we don't

moments are things that we don't like about the

episode and honestly i only have three total

no no we don't moments for the episodes two for

one candice run and one for last train to busville

um The one thing we need to discuss and this

I don't know if this is brought up or not but

the things I liked and because I think we need

to discuss it is He's specific doofenshmirtz

specifically says that he owns the whole building

If he owns that whole building and we've seen

that he has neighbors and there are other people

in that building, how come if he, as the owner,

is not charging them rent and getting money and

then he has to continually rely on his ex -wife

for alimony? And why does he get the alimony?

Like seriously, if he owns the whole dang building,

not just the penthouse. That is an excellent

question. Why didn't he charge him rent? You

think he would. Virus or no virus, you know what

I mean? Like... And he has just the worst tenants.

I know, right? That's crazy. Uh, I know this

is bad to put in moments that I liked, but Doof's

pitifulness is way on point and kinda endearing

in this ep, like... When he's talking to Perry

about calling Charlene, and he's like she's just

going to tell me I told you so which obviously

that's what happened That's what she says, but

you know that's I know you told me so I just

love how they Now that we've finally established

through summer belongs to you and the trip to

Paris and all of that That Candice and Jeremy

are an item We get more Johnson family stuff,

I was hoping for more of this. And thankfully

it wasn't about Susie trying to sabotage Candice.

There's very little Susie in this episode. Yes,

very little. Thankfully. That's not my favorite

character. Yeah. But, you know, what little interaction

she does have with the family, um, you know,

especially in the beginning, everyone basically

says, I hate you, you know, and then she proceeds

to destroy... the reunion, one little bit after

another, culminating in Annabelle's shrine? Is

that a shrine? Yes, she destroys the shrine.

It's like, we don't talk about Annabelle, you

know, and if that's not enough foreshadowing

for you, I don't know what is. Yeah, that's,

yeah, I mean, it's crazy. What is interesting

to me is that they don't actually... They say

nothing about her husband after that. He just

walks off and says, we're gonna check other neighborhoods.

But he like disappears completely from the entire

plot line. I'm like, where'd he go? Where'd he

go? Is this a speaking role? Did you get royalties

for this one? Yeah, it was awesome. But the whole,

uh, the whole Doofensmarts issue, you know, and

the fact that there's, there's no conflict here.

There's no innator. There's, there's no fighting.

It's, it's like, wait a minute, something's missing

in this episode. Yeah. It's missing, but I didn't

really miss it. If that makes sense. It's missing,

but you didn't really miss it because of Run

Candice Run, because that is a cool ass song

and because of what she's doing. takes over the

whole plot. Her running around and trying to

keep up with everything. That is the entire plot

here. It's all about Candace. And the closest

thing Doof can do is take his pants off and put

him on his head and pretend he's a wacky neighbor.

And poor Perry. There's no secret lair. Nope,

there's nothing. I want to say there's not even

a where's Perry but there kind of is Isn't that

I think that's like the one catchphrase in the

beginning Well, and they actually say don't you

have a catchphrase to say or something? Yeah.

Yeah Candice says that yeah Just bust that third

wall out fourth wall right there in the first

episode of the season Yeah, well and you know

She she says the line and then Phineas goes.

What is she talking about? Hey, have you seen

Perry around? Ferb just shrugs. There is no -

oh, there you are, Perry. There is no Perry entrance

to his lair because he didn't even go to the

lair. Yeah. Uh, know what you're doing. Ferb

does not talk at all. He just shrugs. There is

no too young line. Yeah. There's a lot of things

missing out this episode. I know, we spent two

seasons kind of adhering. to this, you know,

punch card of things that you have to have in

every episode. And this one, they kind of say,

you know what? We're not going to do that this

time. And it works. It works. I don't necessarily

have a problem with the stuff not being there

because as I said, the song and Candace's actions

of what she's doing work through everything that

you would have missed. Sure. It's a But it's

missing. Yes. It's a point A to B kind of straight

line thing. What did you like for Last Train

to Bustville? Bustyville. Hold on. What did I

like? You know, I think historically I don't

like Grandma and Grandpa episodes. Pretty much

anything that starts out in the woods in the

cabin, you know, it's not... something I'm gonna

like. And I don't think it has anything to do

with Grandma and Grandpa. They don't play a huge

role in here. I think that, ah man, is it, does

things just get lazy when they head out that

way? Maybe. I hope not. It's possible. It's like,

what's the best thing you can do? I don't know,

we're gonna go out of the garage because Grandma

and Grandpa are hoarders and there's a bunch

of crap out here we can cobble together. Well,

I mean Barry Bostwick is the voice of Grandpa.

We gotta love that, right? Really? Yeah. Okay,

I did not know that because I know the boy's

dad is voiced by Richard O 'Brien. Yeah, Richard

O 'Brien. I know the show's over. I know they

can't go back and do it now, and I'm really wondering

why. That Carolyn Ray voices both mom and grandma

me was it a thing that they weren't like I don't

understand that at all That's a little strange

to me. There's no reason why that couldn't be

the case, right? I guess It's not like they can

go get Susan Sarandon to play grandma, oh my

Okay This this episode is star studded grandpa's

name your grandma and grandpa's names are Brad

and Janet That's the pits I Honestly did not

know this at all this episode is star studded

Tell me about it Janet Shut up Brad All right,

so the normal cast obviously Vincent Martella

Ashley Tisdale Thomas Sankster Carolyn ray rich

Richard O 'Brien Dan Pavan Meyer swampy Marsh

Barry Bostwick D Bradley Baker obviously is Perry

obviously Allison Stunner Isabella Mitchell Musso's

Jeremy Kari Walgren as Suzy and other voices

Kelly who is Stacy? Here's where the stars come

in Joan Cusack as Glenda Watkins. Oh my God.

You're kidding me. Nope. You know, it's funny.

I actually wrote that down, but my, it's like

the first female train conductor, Joan Cusack

question mark. Yup. And, and I couldn't remember

her name, but I wrote that girl cowboy. Oh, so

Jesse from Toy Story. Jesse from Toy Story was

that girl cowboy and I was like, you know who

this sounds like? This sounds like Joan Cusack.

But I did not think that they could actually

get her on the episode for some reason. Okay,

well, you know, this episode just jumped up a

star. It's gonna jump up a few more. Tina Fey

as Annabelle. Oh, you're kidding. She actually

had a lot of lines. Yep. Like a lot. Vicki Lawrence

as Hilda. Grandma Hilda is Vicki - it's Mama

from Mama's Family. Oh. Because they couldn't

get Susan Sarandon. Oh, stop it. Jane Lynch as

Mrs. Johnson. No, I did not know that at all.

I have not known that. Which one was Mrs. Johnson?

It's Jeremy's mom. Oh, you're kidding. honey

you got something right there right there you

know i did not place a voice that's funny i think

the only reason why i place it now is because

she's doing uh... the weakest link on and i believe

it's on NBC at this point anyway yeah the only

thing i know her from is uh... record ralph it's

a good show it is both of them are uh... So yeah,

uh It's a good cast. Yeah. Yeah, very very good

cast. Um Surprising cuz the episodes like yeah

Yeah, I Gotta say it's better than the next couple

but still Last train to Bustville the things

I had negative about it were Let's see The mixed

message it was funny, but it wasn't that funny

at least what Candice thought she heard Versus

what was being said it just it kind of ran into

the ground for me Yeah, a little bit. Yeah a

little bit a little crazy I think the song could

have been bad or the give up song Yeah, the give

-up song could have been better. Yeah, I mean,

especially after Run Candice Run. It's not stuck

in my head. I can't hear it when I look at the

title here. But, you know, we should take this

to heart. We should take Candice's lesson here

and just give up. Goodnight, everybody! Close

enough shop now. For all the credits. Right.

Do you mind? We're trying to record a podcast

here. As an invisible audio advertisement pops

up. Oh wait, it's not going to be so visible

because people will hear it. If you can't actually

see it, is it visible? The other thing I meant

to mention with Run Candice Run. Nobody says

anything about all the destruction. They kind

of give her a... bad look and she kind of apologizes

for it, but like, as I'm watching her run through

all this stuff and seeing all the destruction

she's causing, I'm like, the Man of Steel fans

need to come after her, because they all said

shit about Superman destroying the city and everything,

but they can't come after Candice Flynn. She's

like a terrorist. I know, right? A terrifying

terrorist. I was terrified. Silence, I kill you!

Did you see Run Lola Run? No. Oh, okay. Well,

that's the theme song was patterned after one

of the songs in that show. And Lola has to run.

She has to run. Worth watching. Okay. What would

you rate Run Candice Run 0 to 5? Oh, we're doing

ratings. Damn. Yes. I would give it a 5. Really?

I really liked it. I think it was a good solid

opener. I didn't find anything that I didn't

like about it. It had a really funny joke about

that job at the Anvil store. I laughed. I think

that was a throwaway line, but I laughed so hard.

She's like, oh, I've been gone for 20 years.

I should have taken that job at the Anvil store.

And for some odd reason, all I can think of is

that thing from, from Animaniacs. Anvilania.

It's not all bad, is it? I believe it was in

Wacko's wish. I don't know. Anyway. Well, you

know, because Anvil will cause long -term memory

loss. Exactly, it's the Anvil song. What did

you rate Last Train to Bustville? Well, I did

not like that one as much, but I would be willing

to give it a 3. I gave it a 2. Really? Yeah.

Did it kick your dog or something? So, you know,

we talk about jokes that go on a little too long.

Yeah. The running joke of the fact that Linda

does not have her contacts yet for a prescription.

I'm like, that ran a little long. And honestly,

like the payoff was weak. Yeah. And if you're

going to do a train episode, if that train doesn't

travel through time, I don't care. I mean, come

on. I get the point of the episode. It's supposed

to be never give up. It's supposed to be don't

give up on what you're doing Don't give up on

your dreams and that kind of thing and obviously

Candice takes the opposite route with it of giving

up Yeah, and it's okay, but it's not this is

not a stellar way to start season three of Phineas

Nefurb in my mind all right, I Yeah, I have to

agree But there was a there was a mention of

an Indian burial ground yep yeah I thought that

was funny because poltergeist is you know one

of my favorite movies from that era not enough

to save it from a three but no I don't know,

I think I had more than enough of enjoyment out

of Candace in Run Candace Run and then this came

up and I'm like, really? That's where they're

going with the character? I don't know. Anyway.

That's gonna do it for us. We're gonna take a

quick break though so you can hear some of our

other GCRN advertisements that are probably three,

four, five years old at this point. Who knows,

we'll be back after this. Well, it needs to be

a movie podcast that covers old and new stuff,

one that reviews movies but also talks about

movie news, discusses new trailers, and is willing

just to have fun with some crazy movie games.

Maybe even, you know, like the occasional top

10 countdown? Oh, and it's gonna be a podcast

that is willing at times to delve deep into the

careers of notable directors and speak to all

movie fans from the general audience to the hard

course in a vile. Wow, well, that's quite a resume

you're looking for. What do you think you're

regarding schedule? Monthly, weekly, daily? Weekly,

of course. Alright, well, let me crunch these

numbers in our patented podcast matrix and see

what I can find for you. Wow, I... I don't believe

it. What is it? We actually found the perfect

match. This almost never happens. Really? Will

dreams do come true? What is it? It is the Cinema

Geeks podcast, of course. Well, that sounds perfect,

but, uh, we're gonna hook up with such an awesome

podcast. Well, you can find it weekly on iTunes,

Blockhog Radio, or GeekCastReader .com. Some

podcast marathon here I come. Another Satisfied

customer brought to you by P -Harmony and the

folks over at the Cinema Geeks podcast. Kid?

We are back and a somewhat strong start to season

three, I would say a 50 -50 start. Run Candice,

run. Really excellent start. Last train to Bustville.

Don't know if that was a good pairing. And we

should say, and I should have said this at the

beginning of this episode, which I didn't, I

might edit it in somewhere. We are supposed to

be, or I am at least, as soon as Michael, anyway,

we are watching this on Disney Plus, so the episode

order that we are going by is whatever backwards

-ass way Disney Plus pairs them up. So, if that's

not the right thing, folks, blame Disney. Blame

the evil corporation that we pay money to so

we can watch their cartoons. Would these not

be the first episodes of the season that actually

aired? According to the great people over at

Phineas and Ferb's Wikipedia, The Great Indoors

and Ken Jeremy is supposed to be the first episode

of Season 3, which aired March 5th, 2011. These

two episodes aired May 7th, 2011. Really? That's

weird, because the production code is 301A and

B. Oh, that is true. Okay, so maybe it is. And

also, just to throw this out here, The Great

Indoors would have been a terrible opener for

the season. I don't know. I think that would

have been cool right now, because you can't go

outside. Because it's been raiding COVID for

nine months. That's right. Ah. Be nice to see

the sun. I really want to put a Cheryl Crow reference

in here somewhere, but I'm not going to. Okay.

Thank you for joining us here on Pauka. There

are several ways to get in contact with us to

leave feedback for the show. God, we don't know

how to do this podcast. We haven't done it in

three years, folks. It's so rusty. Talk about

a running joke. Yeah, this podcast rusts, man.

It just itches. uh... visit the website the cast

i am pretty sure we do not have any itunes reviews

i will have to check that actually close spotify

likely episode sixty three or sixty four of the

show because we record these two at a time Follow

yeah. I haven't changed it in the last 11 years.

Why change it now if it works? Eh, you know.

I was originally TFG1 Podcast, and then I changed

it to TFG1 Mike, I think, in like the first year

that I was on Twitter, and then 12, 13 years

later, I'm like, eh, I don't even change it.

it Jeremandus? I don't remember anymore. It sounds

like that fish, you know, that swims up your...

Yeah. Well, when I originally told you three

years ago what this episode was... That's what

I said. Yeah. When I said it was Kendare, you're

like, well, that's not the only way you can combine

their names. You can also call them Jeremandus.

Like, Jeremandus. Okay, I like that better Thanks

to the reminder. I didn't remember that but that's

that that It just goes to show no one listens

to the content that I produce It's like oh you

have a new interview with Amari Williams? Nah,
