Phineas and Ferb Tri-State Trilogy of Terror

About this Episode
This is Craig Miller, director of Star Wars Fan
Relation, and you are listening to the GeekCast
Radio Network. I know what you mean, Ferb. It
does seem like more than 104 days. Hello and
welcome to episode 97 of Pauka, brought to you
by the GeekCast Radio Network. I am one of your
hosts, JFJ, and Mike Jeremy. As always, this
is Peking Encore Michael. Today is the 97th day
of summer. This means it is the day that the
GCR finds out what it's like to be so terrifying
in the Tri -State. Area of Terror on Phineas
and Ferb? I have no idea. I lost it. So Michael,
are you ready to jump on the roller coaster ride
that is the podcast organization without a cool
acronym? Yes, yes, I am. There you go. Oh boy.
So this is just one episode folks one episode.
That's it. There's three different stories in
this and In this trilogy of strange tales Candace
accidentally conjures up a spell that turns her
ducky Momo plushie into a living breathing doll
that is set on stalking her doofenshmirtz encounters
the inexplicable giant floating baby head that
grants cursed wishes. It's explicable. That's
right. Not explicable. Not explicit. Yeah, whatever.
And explicate. No, no splicking. And Phineas,
Ferb and their other friends confront a horde
of mischievous evil platypuses set on destroying
the town. OK, first of all, Dan Pabenmaier did
not create the minions. However, Those evil platypuses
are purple. The evil minions are purple! You
see the resemblance here? I wasn't looking for
it, but now that you've mentioned it, yes. It
does seem like he did invent the evil minions.
Which came first? Oh, jeez. Despicable Me 2,
when did it...? This episode first aired on Disney
Channel October 5th, 2013, and Despicable Me
2 was out that year, so I'm wondering what...
Who is the copyright infringer? Well, to be fair,
he didn't create gremlins either. This is such
a screaming gremlins ripoff. Yes. They only had
so much time. You can't recreate an entire movie
in 22 minutes. It's surprising they recreated
three individual... What are the individual parts
of an anthology called? Story sections, chapters...
There you go. There was three chapters in 22
minutes, which was impressive. I knew this came
after. I knew that this came after that because,
as I said, October 5th and October 12th were
the television air dates for Tri -State, the
terrifying Tri -State trilogy of terror. And
the only reason why I know it came after is because
any time a movie comes out on July 3rd of any
year, I think it was Spider -Man, but it was
July 3rd, 2013 when Despicable Me 2 came out
and the evil minions. Was it the second film
or was it the third? Wait a minute Oh, you know
how this works. So the writing process starts
years in advance. I mean You know, it's not just
release date, but I can see I Don't know. I mean
where where the where are the the vines of creativity
growing into each other here? Like who knows
each other from these two different? Development
paths from these two properties. I wonder I don't
know, but I thought it was absolutely hilarious
in this episode. This was an excellent episode.
It was. Yes, this was an excellent episode, but
I saw that and I'm like, oh my God. No, they
didn't. They did, but they didn't. So we have
three stories here. We have the Duckie Bo Bo
Turns Evil. We have the Night of the Giant Floating
Babyhead. And we have the invasion of the evil
platypi clones. Night of the day of the revenge
of the giant floating baby head. I find it creepy
as all hell that they reference the rest of the
giant floating baby. Like really? Where is the
rest of the giant floating baby? I don't want
to know honestly. What if the giant floating
baby actually has a tiny head and the rest of
it is our gargantuan kaiju in a diaper? That's
your finish after dark not mine. I don't have
any fetishes. I'm just saying weird. Exactly.
You know, I know about my fetishes. All right.
My favorite line of the whole thing is, uh, she
quotes, um, aliens. Isabella says, We got a new
kid from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
I laughed so hard. I love that. In fact, she's
like, we have to leak it from orbit. And I said
it along with her. It's the only way to be sure.
And I laughed because it made me giggle so hard.
You laughed. Your wife laughed. Your kids laughed.
The dog laughed. The plant laughed. The toaster
laughed. I shot the toaster. I shot the toaster.
That's right. No Blendix in this house. That's
Decepticons. That's right. They have Decepticons.
No, I liked this episode and. I liked especially
because. Background and now for some background,
I. The scariest, the scariest movie I'd ever
seen was Trilogy of Terror. Came out in 1975.
I was two Yeah, and I don't know exactly how
old I was but I had to have seen it on TV because
I wouldn't have gone like out to the movies to
see this So I had to have been you know, whenever
they put this on TV. I saw it late at night.
Yeah Okay, so if it came out when you were two
in 75, it probably didn't hit TV like actual
broadcast television that probably wouldn't have
hit until 79 78 Yeah, I want to say 77 78 somewhere
in there probably almost four or five. Yeah,
four or five six, right Yeah, so for me the scariest
thing in my young life was that creepy Zuni doll
Yeah with this with this spear. Oh It scared
the hell out of me. I had nightmares for years
and Uh, you know, I'm sure I've seen scarier
things since then. I mean, I just watched hereditary
with Gavin and that was creepy as shit. But yeah,
if you've never seen it, don't watch it. Um,
you'll have nightmares. Yep. Nope. Horror is
not my thing. Yeah. But man, that little tiny
doll with it, with, with the huge teeth and the
sharp teeth and the, and the spear. I, I, I,
I, oh man, it's just, it's scary. It's still
think it's one of the scariest things I've ever
seen. So it haunts me. But now we have, not only
is this show called Trilogy of Terror, Tri -State
Trilogy of Terror, but they have a doll that
comes to life and chases Candace around the house.
It was awesome. I was like, this is amazing.
I love this. I love this so much. There was a
slight missed opportunity because if you've ever
watched Evil Dead, And I don't think this was
referenced in the wiki, but if you've watched
Evil Dead, you know that Ash finds the book of
the dead, the Necronomicon, in an old cabin in
the woods, and he recites from it the words,
and that releases an evil spirit that then attacks
him and his girlfriend in the cabin. You know,
so here we have Candice who is reading the the
incantation aloud from the book And uh, they
they didn't mention the the words the secret
words plato verata Nikto yeah, see I thought
the whole thing with the mr. Macabre whatever
his name is I thought oh, it's a scary version
of princess bride Because this I was actually
thinking the audience. I was actually thinking
a tamer version of the crypt keeper That too.
Yeah But neither of those are in the illusions.
Yeah. I mean, the Crypt Keeper is kind of there
to narrate a scary episode, right? Yeah, yeah,
absolutely. And he was kind of like old and gaunt.
And that was my first stop. But he had this weird
accent that I couldn't place. Yeah. Then I could
barely understand that. I'm like, why are they
having this accent for a children's show? Because
if I don't understand what the hell he's saying.
I'm not sure if little kids are going to understand
what he's saying midway through the episode.
He's rolling a booger between his fingers and
he flicks it away. I'm just like, oh, my God,
this is disgusting. I really hate this. This
is my least favorite part of the trilogy is the
segues in between because it's got this creep
keeper in, you know, a creepy van with candy
in it, most likely. And, you know, talk about
fetishes. This whole guy probably has a lot of
weird shit going on. But here he is rolling up
his boogers and flicking them out the window.
In this ice cream truck, just absolutely. Yeah,
I was actually put it disturbed. I was disturbed
by this. Yeah, I could it could have come up
with a better segue. Yeah, absolutely these stories
didn't tie in the other at all No, no, no, these
are specific individual stories They're not an
anthology in the sense that they they don't mix
up but I've been I mean We're used to having
our stories dovetail. Yeah And they could have
done it they could have tied these together in
a way where you know something was happening
You know, maybe maybe Ducky Momo was was you
know? Traversing the yard and the giant floating
baby head maybe you know goes across the skyline
in the background and you know blink and you'll
miss it But it's there, you know that type of
thing. Yeah, that would have been neat. Yeah
so I'm looking into Oliver Chris who was the
guy that voiced mr. Macabre He did played Ricky
Howard on the office. I don't know I don't care
I've seen the office. I don't recognize that
character. Yeah, he played. The role on rescue
me, he played a role, he played Prince William
and King Charles the third. Yeah, didn't see
that either. Yeah, no, me neither. So he looks
like a young guy is not like he looks like he's,
you know, ancient or anything, so I don't know.
Maybe he was just doing a voice, you know, and
somebody said, hey, you know. Can you do it in
the voice of an old creepy guy? And he's like,
why don't I try this? You know, and there there
we go. There we go. Speaking of guest stars,
the the guy who did officer officer Concord,
yeah, he was. Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls
was. Oh, yeah, it was. No, no, no. Yeah, no,
I read you that place the voice because I placed
the voice. I was like, wait a minute. Isn't that
voice? Is that not Grunkle Stan? Yeah, yeah,
it is. Yeah, I placed the voice. I just didn't
like really pay that much attention to it. And
then I saw his name and I'm like, wait a minute.
And then I'm looking at the. The the little cat
I completely skipped over. I'm like, wait a minute
I know that I know there's probably multiple
Alex Hirsch's out there spelled the way that
his last name is spelled H I R S C H. Uh -huh.
You know SH But it's weird. Yeah, go ahead. Sorry,
but at first I was like wait really cuz uh, okay.
Yeah. Anyway, good I saw Alex Hirsch and my brain
went to Judd Hirsch No. And I'm like, that didn't
sound like Judd Hirsch at all. I mean, was he
was he doing a bit? I don't understand, you know,
who's, you know, but I'm like, wait a minute,
because I heard that and I thought it was I thought
that's the guy who plays Grunkle Stan. I don't
know who plays Grunkle Stan. So I went to go
look, but it and I'm like, did Judd Hirsch play
Grunkle Stan? I mean, that doesn't that doesn't
sound right. But I actually had to look into
it. Yeah, Alex Hirsch is on the same. He's not
okay. I mean, he's not on the same level, but
he's close on the same level as like, uh, what's
his nuts? A family guy. Idiot. Um, McFar, uh,
Seth, uh, I don't know if he's that prolific.
What do you mean? I'm not saying he's that prolific.
I'm saying he's on the same level as. Seth with
the point of fact that he does a lot of the voices
for a lot of the shows. So he produces the shows,
but he also does the voice. Yeah. Okay. All right.
I'll buy that. Sure. Yeah. I mean, you know,
you're not going to see Alex Hirsch going to
Fox and saying, you're going to make this show
for me. And Fox says, okay, fine. Yeah, no, I
will make this show for you. I could have. Done
without the Ducky Momo section. No, the Ducky
Momo section was perfect. And again, hearkening
back to Trilogy of Terror. Yeah, I loved it.
I loved it. Ducky Momo just wants a hug. He just
wants a hug. He's throwing stuff at him on the
floor and he like stops and walks around it.
She's like he's unstoppable It was so good And
then at the end she's like, oh the moon wasn't
out when I made the spell for you So then what
turned evil mr. Miggins? No, and then we basically
have um What what's his nuts? Hello, my baby.
Hello. I'm like, oh god. No what no this was
another missed opportunity in that they didn't
do the uh, The scary monkey from The Simpsons.
Oh, Jesus, no! No, this finger extended, you
know? That's because it's a... I don't know,
it looked more like a monkey than a bear to me,
but you know. Yeah, but Mr. Miggins is supposed
to be a stuffed bear. That's what he's supposed
to be. Just thought that was funny. Yeah. Because
that's kind of what he did without the extended
finger. He just went rawr! Rawr! Yeah. And fade
to black. But the giant baby head thing that
was... A thing. It was a thing that happened.
I didn't understand cheese and crackers until
it happened the fourth time. Because the funny
thing is I'm just watching the TV and I thought
she said cheese and rice. No, she said cheese
and crackers. She said cheese and crackers. But
the second time they said it, cheese and crackers,
I was like, oh, she said it again. But the funny
thing is when she's like cheese and rice, I mean,
that's... That's not what that really means,
you know, no and I it made me giggle cuz I'm
like wait a minute How'd they get away with that
in Disney? How did that happen but then they
you know, it's cheese and crackers and then cheese
and crackers happens four times during the show
Yep, and then they double down into cheese and
crackers and it's like I am now the master of
cheese and crackers You know, which is like the
worst mutant ability ever That and I'm going
to devour all of your cheese. That's against
the five. I think that's way longer than the
five second rule, Perry the platypus. Way longer
than the five second rule. You're going to catch
something like that. Now you've got the cooties.
Circle, circle, dot, dot. Now you've got a cootie
shot. There you go. You're all fine. But not
only does he not have cooties, he also is not
lactose intolerant because that show, that chapter
would have ended a lot differently. Yes, yes
it would have. Would have had a big difference
if he had eaten all the lab cheese. He would
have blasted himself to the moon. Yep. Would
have been ugly. I would have laughed like hell.
I would have been on the floor. You would have
had to pick me up. Yep. Off the floor because
poop jokes are funny. I mean at least in the
third wish he actually did try to think of things.
Like he tried to make sure he was covering all
his bases and then Unfortunately. Yeah, it was,
I mean, and again, you've got, you know, eight
minutes to finish the story. So let's not get
too in depth with our with our reasoning. You
know, it's like the first thing I want ice tea.
Give me an ice tea. You know, it's nothing that
could possibly hurt me. You know, it's the most
innocuous thing. Ice tea. We used to enjoy it
as children around the campfire. Right. But then
it just kind of gets weirder. Unless it got too
literal, and it was like, oh, you would like
wrapper iced tea transported to your, you know,
weird head shape building in Danville? That's
right. I mean, I mean, what's Detective Finn
Tutuolo gonna do? Solve your crime for you, Dr.
Goodwin -Schmerz? I don't think so. That could
happen. Could happen. Once again, completely
different ending. Yeah, exactly. Dun dun. Dun
dun. Or wait, I can't do the... You know, how
they... Oh, they end each their their excuse
for a segue is like a jail door swinging shut
or something. That's right. And then we kind
of already talked about the invasion of the Platypus
clones, but damn, that's hilarious. I liked it.
You know, they didn't quite go full gremlins,
but it was grimy enough. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And
at the end, they all die. Spoiler alert. But
he was like, oh, no, no, wait. OK, we're going
to give you the Hollywood ending. And the Hollywood
ending was that, you know, the cowboy comes and
saves the day. And my thought on the cowboy was
this is the most expendable character ever. You
know, I mean, it's kind of why is he even here?
I don't did the voice actor, you know, does somebody
owe him a favor? I didn't understand. I don't
even know who the voice actor was. Okay, you're
gonna look it up actor for I'm just scrolling
here that way you're gonna look it up. I didn't
place him David Koechner Koechner I could not
place him. I don't know who he was. K -O -E -C
-H -N -E -R he was in He was champ kind and anchorman.
He was in thank you for smoking. He was in The
goods live hard sell hard. He was an extra he's
The only thing I name, two names I know, he was
Todd, I don't know the name of the character,
but Todd Packer in The Office, and he was in
Krampus, in one of the Krampus movies. But we
do have, we do have a Judd -Hirsch connection,
because he was Carl Tuszynki, or Tuszynski in
Superior Donuts, which Superior Donuts was a
Judd -Hirsch? Yeah. Really? Oh, that's interesting.
I love Superior Donuts. Ran from February 2nd,
2017 to May 14th, 2018. Only got one season.
I have never heard of this show. Oh, yeah, yeah,
yeah. So side note, folks, Superior Donuts is
an American sitcom television series based on
the play of the same name by Tracy Letts that
aired on CBS from 2017 -2018. You are reading
from the Wiki, aren't you? Yes, I am, because
I'm lazy and it's late and it's hot in this apartment
and... Open a window, it's dark out already.
Yeah, I know it's dark out already, but it's
like 80 degrees outside in Indiana in fucking
October. It's so nice out here. No. You are like
in the deep south of Indiana, aren't you? No,
I'm not. No, I'm in Anderson. I'm like two hours
away from where you are. It's nice here. I had
the windows open. I don't know what you're talking
about. If I had my balcony door open here, you'd
probably hear some - Oh yeah, we can't do that
either. I don't know what these old - No, literally,
my apartment complex is in the middle of nowhere.
I don't know what all these old people are doing
in the last couple of days, but I've heard a
motorcycle come through here. I don't know which
one of these old ladies has a boyfriend with
a Harley, but damn. Anyway - They're doing the
Harley shake. Yeah. Yeah, officer concord the
juice time juice box flavor cup. Yeah, that was
so 90s. Yes. Yes It's like 90s. I'm like this
juice box is extreme You know, you know, you
know, you know what they should have done They
should have had iced tea as the juice box cup
opportunity They could have pulled ice tea Overall,
we enjoyed this. I like the other two more than
the Ducky Momo one, but I think my favorite is
the Invasion of the Evil Platypus clones. Yeah,
I like that. I can't fall aside from the one
thing, aside from the occasional missed opportunities.
But aside from the fact that these didn't dovetail
together, I feel like if they had tied them together
in some way, somehow, and this is a creative
group, they could have done it. And then in the
end, instead of having the fake crypt creeper
in a bank trying to get a loan for his stupid
ice cream truck, they could have tied them all
together at the end and then have been like,
ta -da, boom. Yeah, yeah, it would have been
cool. And maybe maybe the crypt keeper would
have been there to witness it and he would have
been like, what? You know, yeah. But because
I mean, they had the book in each episode, each
episode, you know, the book was prominent. And
the fact that they couldn't have somehow used
that as a segue, you know, or maybe at the end,
they all just kind of show up and they're like.
That's my book. No way. That's my book and they
would have had like a spider -man pointing thing
where they're all pointing each other like wait
a minute. That's my book Something I don't know
anything. I'm not that creative. That's why I
don't work in hollywood, but you know obpenweyer
marsh They could have figured it out. Yeah, that's
what they do for a living That's right They're
smarter than me. That's right Making minions.
Yes minions minions and and purple gremlins.
That's right Purple minions, what are we rating
tri -state terrifying trilogy of? Toughness or
whatever. It's called a trilogy of terror Was
it was it terror was it terrifying? No, not really
Especially I feel like there was a certain amount
of false advertising. Yeah, and unfortunately
this was 2013 so it's just shy of when Disney
bought a certain superhero company so they couldn't
put any real supervillains in this horror like
they couldn't put like Morbius or somebody in
there. Oh, you know, you don't you don't need
so much like a Marvel cameo that's it. I think
that would have cheapened it. I don't know. I
don't know man that giant bat I was like I wish
it would have been dressed as a man in a bat
suit instead of a Giant Batman. Wait, are we
are we talking about a different episode? Oh
is I swear that all these Halloween episodes
are running together from the books. What are
we reading? Tri -state trilogy of EDC I loved
it. I don't know if I five loved it, but I definitely
four and a half loved it. Okay, I'm right I'll
give it a four. I take one full point off for
Ducky Momo. What? No, that's not Ducky Momo's
fault. That was amazing That's Ducky Momo's fault.
That's exactly how it should have ended though.
I mean, because Ducky Momo, he could never hurt
me. You know, Ducky Momo loves us all. And he
would never stab us with a kitchen knife. Yes
he would. We would never resort to throwing Ducky
Momo into an oven. Who are you kidding? That's
how the trilogy of terror ended, she threw it
in the oven. Roasted duck, that's right. Oh,
duck larange. Now you're making me hungry. Duck
larange for Thanksgiving, folks. Let's go. I'll
bring the cranberry sauce. But I bet if they
had continued it, that's how Mr. Muggins would
have ended up. They would have threw his ass
in the microwave. Just like the gremlins. See,
tie in. There you go, right there. Gremlins,
microwave. Yep. Alright folks, we're gonna head
to a quick podcast ad break and then come back
to close the show right after this. This isn't

with only, even though there were still three
cartoons, there was one long 30 -minute episode,
which isn't bad, but that's what it is. Any final
thoughts before I run through the closing, sir,
on tri -state, terrifying tri -state trilogy
of terror? There, I got it right this time. Got
it right. May the ancient moths of Sumeria feast
upon your skinny jeans. I haven't had skinny
jeans since 1994. God, that's sad. I haven't
had skinny jeans since 30 years ago. Oh my God,
I'm getting too old for this shit. I don't like
that. Yeah, I'm getting too old for this shit.
But no, this is a fun episode. We kind of mentioned
off air. We'll mention it now. We'll mention
it again next episode about back to back Halloween
episodes in 2013, which I think is cool for them.
I like that they did this. I like Halloween.
Yeah. So it depends, but I can deal with it as
long as the kids aren't, you know, too unruly.
Children are eggs. Anyway, what I noticed that
we didn't really talk about this was They changed
the intro theme. It's still the intro theme,
but literally the whole thing. Yes, I forgot.
Well, at least they use it more than once because
they pushed it into the next episode, but it
was clever. Yeah, it's funny because they kept
the parts about Frankenstein. They're like, you
know what? It's about Frankenstein. We're keeping
it. Finding Frankenstein's brain. Keeping it.
Having a monkey. Not keeping it. Yeah. Well,
they didn't they say? I thought they did because
it was a skeleton in the bathtub. Maybe they
just shaved the monkey. Maybe this is shaving
a skeleton. I don't know. Oh, I'm looking for,
you know, now I'm going to have to go back and
watch it again. But they changed it. And normally
when it says skip intro, I skip the intro this
time. I watched the intro. Yeah. Yeah. Well,
I watched. Yeah, I watched the intro because
there was no. So this is so stupid. Disney. So
we're watching these on Disney plus folks. So
if you want to follow along with us, you can
watch them in the order that we are watching
them, which is whatever order Disney plus has
them in. And what's funny to me is on this episode
and the next episode of the podcast that we do,
you're so senile. There was, there was no skip
intro, but there was. Watch next episode at the
end of this and at the end of that it wanted
me to skip Directly to the next episode, but
it wouldn't let me skip the intro because of
these Halloween intros I don't know. I don't
not it wouldn't let you skip it. Let me skip
the intro, but I didn't Know would not let me
skip it the third time. I watched it. I skipped
the intro Yeah, I mean, I can still automatic,
not automatic, manually, you know, advance the
thing 30 seconds, but usually there's a there's
a little button thing in the lower right hand
corner. Yeah, there wasn't that this time again.
Oh, in the grand scheme of things, not complaining
about it, but just stating facts about how Disney
Plus is their services. You must have broken
it. I didn't break it. Clearly, I blame Bob Iger.
Ha ha ha. It's all his fault. Damn it, Bob. Damn
it, Bob. Bob, Bob, how are you guys today? Oh,
we're good. We're good. We're good. Sorry. Old
office space joke. That movie is 25 years old
this year. All right, folks, that's going to

episode of Palco Wish. You'll join us next time
when we'll be giving you our thoughts on the
next two episodes, four full cartoons of Phineas
and Ferb, which include Drusilstinaween, Face

you for listening. Until next time. This isn't
a food truck, you baboon. It's a... podcast without
a cool acronym. Yes. There's not really anymore,
