I have a long past with the famous quartet. I love this series as much as quite possibly any other I cover here. However there are some characters I care more about than others in this franchise. Now some are from previous incarnations and some from current. For this I will state whom is my favorite and why as well as the image of the incarnations. To limit my list I plan to do my Top 5.
5) 1987 TMNT – Shredder
Why do I love this character and rate him number 5? Well he was among my first few original villains I really liked. He was shiny, had knives, a cool voice and was evil and cunning despite being somewhat campy. This was the basis of the future Shredder’s but he had more of a kid friendly approach. I primarily love this version out of a nostalgia perspective over an overall villain rating.
4) 2003 TMNT – Shredder
This iteration of the Shredder I am mostly familiar from the few TMNT 2003 I have seen and his showing up in TMNT Smash-Up as well as the Turtles Forever. Nevertheless, I find this version so far without the influence of the 2012 TMNT to be the best. He has the style and essence of the a modern day dark villain. He holds no compassion and an almost obsessive approach to destroying the turtles. He is to the point he would destroy existence to be rid of them. I just find this version very cool.
3) 2012 TMNT – Raphael
So why 2012 for this one? Well he has the nice mix of the 1987, 2003 and modern touches all rolled into one. In addition I love the voice acting for him by the awesome Sean Astin. I love the look of this version too. In addition to being young he has a Harry Potter -esque looking lightening bolt on his chest. I find this version to have a brash and almost Hot Rod feel but not using that cheap Mcguffin from Transformers. In anycase I love the influences of this iteration.
2) 2012 TMNT – Donatello
First I love this due to Rob Paulsen being this character. He brings the fun that is Raphael but the techy and geeky nature in all of us with his upbeat voice. No offense to the previous Donny’s but Rob brings the fun. I think it’s also funny he is all gaga over April despite the species gap. I just find he is the most interesting and overall Turtle-wise my favorite of the new 2012 show.
1) 1987 TMNT – Krang
THIS IS MY #1 FAVORITE! I love this character. Those that know me know I love the evil characters. Partially in the fact I can voice most of the evils I really like and the fact I find a liking with the dark ones. Not only is he an awesome alien who gets a robot body, comes from dimension X, has the walker and supplies the Technodrome, I like his speech pattern. I love Pat Fraley’s interpretation of him the best but I think that I do the best close 2nd much like my BW Megatron. When Krang speaks it always grabbed me. I could never figure out why. Perhaps it had to do with the voice pattern, and essence of this warlord now helplessly needing help. Seeing a brain also makes you instantly feel he is smarter than the bunch despite his and Shredder’s many failed plans. I also really love this character as I have the original LARGE version of the Android Body even though most is in damaged condition. Overall my favorite from the classic TMNT.
And so that being said that is my personal Top 5 Characters I love from the various series of TMNT!
