About this Episode

Mike reads and reflects on nine iTunes reviews The Pull Bag has received since launching in 2013, addressing feedback both positive and critical with genuine thoughtfulness. He thanks the show's collaborators and guest hosts, discusses the podcast's ambitious early output and current trajectory, and previews upcoming content including a special Clerks Christmas episode with his fiancée Jennifer, additional TMNT coverage, and a brief hiatus for the holiday season.

Welcome to The Pull Bag. Join us as we dig out

our latest comics and discuss them with a rotating

panel of the JCRN crew. So sit back and enjoy

this week's Pull Bag. Hello folks, TF2 and Mike

here from the Ecast Radio Network and here inside

the Pull Bag... I don't know what this is gonna

be this is gonna be kind of like a content update

kind of episode thing Life is happening to me.

That's as vague as I'll put it for the better

Some of you may have known that last year my

mom passed away So I'm still kind of dealing

with that. I've been doing the pull bag all year

this year for its Technically third slash fourth

year And we've had a lot of great content come

out I wanted to take this time to thank the nine

people that left us iTunes reviews here in the

US Anyone else that's ever listened to the show

even if you're a silent listener Please if you've

liked any of the content any of the episodes

Reviewing comics that we've done or the altered

not altered the after dark discussions or anything

like that Please go leave a review on iTunes

if you're not in the u .s. And you listen to

us, please email me And let me know you know

what you think of the show and that kind of stuff

the pullback will still be doing comic reviews

I'm just not sure how many and when at this point

Had said at the end of the last back issue classics

episode with movie revolt Dan and myself talking

I hate fairyland issue seven and eight that I

was gonna be putting the show in a brief hiatus

And it will be a brief hiatus. I'm going out

to California to have Christmas with my fiance

and her family We may record some podcasts while

I'm out there. I'm not sure I don't know so but

here's the thing I have to thank everybody who

has supported me in doing the pullback. First

of all, thank you as always to my partner in

podcasting, Crime, the co -creator, along with

myself, to the GeekCaster Network, Steven C.

Phillips. Steve does all the podcast banner art,

the podcast, you know... Regular art that you

see on iTunes and stuff the fourteen hundred

by fourteen hundred square art kind of stuff

He does all of that He's worked with me on several

things with the show he's been on several episodes

But over the years Steve and I's friendship has

always been just a great collaboration of two

very geeky and sometimes Minds in the gutter,

but you know hey I also want to thank every single

person who has ever hosted the pullback with

me, anyone that's been a guest on the show. I

can't name you all now, but you know who you

are. Thank you for taking the time to podcast

with me. I absolutely enjoy it and absolutely

wish we could do more more often. So for the

nine reviews on iTunes, I don't know if I've

ever read any of these on air I'm not sure but

I want to thank these people and I'm going to

read their reviews So you people can see what

they were saying? Okay, so the first one is from

Superfilm fan night. No not super film fan 98

Superfilm fan 66 wait, so there's two super film

fans 66 and 98 Guys speak up. Tell me who is

who anyway Superfilm fan 66 says best comic podcasts

five -star review. This is left on April 29th

2013 great new podcasts on comics. I have listened

to in a while He gave us three he gave us five

stars. Thank you so much Superfilm fans Superfilm

fan 66 Our own GC iron's own movie revolt Dan

left us a review the pull bag I just recently

started a bit already shows great potential There's

a lot of podcasts about comics, but I tend to

enjoy the ones most that have the host who love

what they read They're critical at times but

never in that nerd rage way so many other comic

book podcasts fall into and movie role Dan gave

us a Five -star review on May 4th of 2013 when

we first started the podcast We do have one negative

review out of the nine here it states again it

is by Naderong I don't know it's some leet speak

spelling of a name. I'm not sure this was left

on August 16th 2013 It's a one -star review these

guys are bland and aren't as knowledgeable as

they think they are Okay, let me just respond

to this really quickly and over the years that

I've been podcasting folks I used to get angry

at negative iTunes reviews I don't anymore. I

take them in stride and respond to them in a

positive light and give feedback to that person.

Again, the person's iTunes name is LeakedSpeaked,

so I don't know how to say his name, but the

person that left us the one -star review. It's

not about all the hosts being knowledgeable.

The poll bag has always been comic reviews and

discussion. The way that I've always done the

show is that we either sit here and go page by

page through a full comic issue or we'll read

a trade paperback and take a bunch of bullet

point notes and then we'll have a discussion

as we go along. We're discussing and talking

about what we've read. We're not sitting here

going through, you know... 85 years of DC Comics

history or Marvel Comics history. I mean we've

done that we've talked about Marvel then Marvel

now we've talked about DC Comics pre new 52 and

after new 52 and and Everything else we still

have yet to get to a rebirth issue with DC We

haven't gotten a rebirth yet, but we'll get to

it eventually so It's not about as being knowledge

you don't have to be the guy in the room that

knows every little friggin, it's good to have

a guy like that, but you don't have to be the

guy in the room that knows every friggin detail

about the entire history of a comic company to

review one series, or one issue of a comic. Good

buddy, good fan of the show, good fan of the

network. Bondo Mike left his review August 20th,

2013. Fun podcast, five star review. I enjoy

this podcast. It's pretty much a straight up

review of the comics and part of the fun comes

from the enjoyment that the podcasters exude

from what they are reading as generally as their

review books they enjoy. They don't just come

out and act like comic experts and have little

to no baggage when it comes to this so they won't

spend a ton of time citing a ton of References

to the past which is sort of fresh Not that doing

that is a bad is a bad thing But these guys just

do an overview and talk about the good and the

bad again usually in a fun way without any pretentiousness

The only bad part is that after listening my

pull list keeps expanding. I hope they keep this

up And that was three years ago folks, so Good

old Mike. I hope your pull list is grown exponentially

considering you know we have uh... seventy -five

bag issue classics episodes nine after dark episodes

and one hundred and thirty six uh... actual numbered

episodes so we got a lot of episodes here in

the poll bag uh... hannuk outcast our good buddy

hannuk outcast jeremy fine left a review february

third twenty fourteen comics five -star review

Anyone who is just a lover of TMNT, DC, Marvel,

or any indie publishers, The Pull Bag has got

it all. They also have some great specialty shows

in regards to comic book characters, as well

as some upcoming After Dark episodes. It's your

job and duty as a fellow comic book lover to

visit and support your local comic book store.

A much welcomed addition from the creators of

the GeekCast Radio Network. By the way, this

show got me into an unknown comic. Bubba the

redneck werewolf. Thanks guys. Oh that was from

JT from Saskatoon's Origins episode a few years

ago, so thank you so much Jeremy for that Not

the best, but still good three -star review.

This is from man in time July 8th 2014 After

listening to the podcast on the Geekcast Radio

Network, I have found ones I love, found ones

I stopped listening to within a few moments,

and ones that I'll catch on occasion. This is

one I'll catch from time to time. The main host

is okay, but I find the quality of the episode

is dependent upon who the hosts are. Also, it

takes a little too long to review comics at times.

They seem to think they are giving insight when

they are really just regurgitating what happened.

You have to pick the episodes carefully, and

there are way too many by the way. If I miss

a week and tend to be six episodes behind at

times, and there are much better podcasts out

there about comics, there are also a lot worse.

Just don't expect a lot and you'll be fine. Man

in Time, thank you for the review. In the beginning

of the pullback, yes, I was very ambitious. That

first or second annual Batman year, the month

of May, the celebrating Batman's anniversary,

I think we had 13 podcasts in one month. So trust

me, I understand that. I've kind of kicked back.

We've been doing one a week ever since. But again,

thank you so much Man in Time for that review.

This is from my buddy Jesse Jackson. no not that

jesse jackson this is jesse w jackson this is

left september 5th september 17th 2015 seeing

what's been pulled a five star review One of

the great moments of each week is walking into

your local comic shop and seeing what's in your

quote unquote pull. You might have a vague idea

of what's going to be there, but there's usually

something unexpected and that is normally something

special. That's what this podcast is to me, a

chance to get some great comics talk and the

chance for something extra special like the Tom

Zoller interview. Great job team, keep it up.

Jesse will be back because we still have to review

the second volumes three and four of Love and

Capes, so thank you so much Jesse for that. The

next one, second to last one here is from CW

Murphy 9. May 20th, 2016, so this year. uh...

says in my rotation a four star review another

solid podcast for gcr in each episode tends to

cover one specific comics i don't get to listen

to everything i do wish less time was spent going

through the comics page by page and more focus

on general deeper discussion also a lot of great

interviews as well uh... cw murphy nine i want

to just kind of address this is a little bit

uh... you're right we do tend to because I find

it's easier for me to go issue by issue and Basically

recap the comic and have discussions along the

way if you listen to our TMNT coverage with myself

and Joe Reed You know we do do that. I Just find

it's more engaging to do it that way, you know

I just thought it would be. We are going to be

doing a lot of trade coverage here coming up,

and those will be more bullet point discussion

points, so there will be a lot more moments for

discussion. So say thank you again, CW Murphy.

Last review here is from Klaus's cousin from

September 15th of this year. Thank you, a five

star review. There are a plethora of comic book

pop culture podcasts here on iTunes So it can

be become something of a chore to single out

the good from the bad I only recently came across

the pull bag and what grabbed my attention was

that they cover one of my all -time favorite

characters the TMNT They do lengthy episodes

breaking down and discussing and analyzing IDW's

current TMNT series, and I love it. Other comic

book podcasts rarely mention this series, so

to find two guys who love and enjoy the TMNT

comics as much as I do is just so great. I really

enjoyed the Tom Waltz interview and look forward

to what they cover next. Also, thanks for covering

DC's Motu series as well, another very underrated

comic book series. Thank you once again to everybody

here that has supported The Pull Bag over the

last three and a half, four years. Coming up,

as I've said in the recent episodes, I'm not

sure. I don't know. I've been saving one specific

comic for my fiance Jennifer and I to do, to

review, which we will do when I get out there

to California for Christmas. So we are going

to give you a Clerks' Christmas! I'm not even

supposed to be here today! we're going to be

reviewing the uh... the clerks comic book in

episode one thirty seven one thirty seven in

a row so yeah there is that i can tell you guys

that's coming at least for christmas i know team

and he's doing a holiday special i know joe and

i are next uh... our next team in t episode clous

is going to be uh... The Street Phantoms arc,

which is TMNT ongoing issues 61 to 64. I do know

we're going to be starting Universe as well,

TMNT Universe, so there is that. This year in

the pullback, I didn't get to a whole heck of

a lot of After Darks as I wanted to. I didn't

get to a whole heck of a lot of Origins episodes

as I wanted to, and hopefully I will get to those

next year. Once again, just want to thank everybody

for... Taking the time to check out the pull

bag and listen As I said, I understand a lot

of people are silent listeners, but please make

your voice be heard I want to hear from you guys

I've covered a lot of stuff in you know in the

all this time of the pull bag I've covered DC.

I've covered Batman There's a lot of things I

haven't covered that I've wanted to I actually

had plans to record with Michael Bailey from

Views from the Longbox about the new 52 Supergirl

series. We were going to review that in trades.

So, you know, we will get to that eventually.

There's just so many comics out there to choose

from and I pick and choose the ones that, you

know, I know I'm going to enjoy and the ones

that, you know... I think you guys will enjoy

as well. Like, the whole thing with movie revolt,

Dan and I reviewing I Hate Fairyland from Scotty

Young and I in Image Comics. I love that series.

That series is fun and awesome. It's not for

kids. It's for adults, but it's super fun and

very cool. Make your greatest game in the comics,

folks. You know, I know a lot of people these

days may not be that interested in reading actual

chapter books. Comics is reading too. You're

still reading a full -on story in each issue

throughout arcs and various things of series

So please folks go read some comics Jump inside

the pull bag. We will be back soon Thank you

so much to everybody and also a huge thanks to

Michael Powers our good buddy booth ninja for

even giving us the name the pull bag because

originally the show was gonna be called the pull

list But I like jumping inside the pull bag a

little bit better, rather than be written off

the pull list. And now as I can think of, is

this line from Chris Jericho. You just made the
