them. with a rotating panel of the GCRN crew.

So sit back and enjoy this week's Pull Bag. Alright

folks it is the month of April and it is time

once again for profiling previews here inside

the Pull Bag. And we're releasing this on, we're

about to have some multiple releases here in

the Pull Bag coming up at the end of April. So

profiling previews were... Doing things a little

different this month. We're starting off with

DC Comics. Then we're going to go into IDW, Image,

and Marvel. Same crew joins me. The Weird Science,

DC guys Jim and Eric, Nicole Halestorm, Jeremy

Fine, and JT from Saskatoon. I hope everyone's

loving the profiling previews episodes. And without

any further ado, let's get on with the show.

Spoilers. Alright folks, we are switching it

up a little bit and we're actually going to kick

off the April Profiling Previews episode with

DC Comics just to get it out of the way. Yay!

Alright. Because we are converging on a universe

implosion at this point. I'm of course TF2 and

Mike. Joining me is Jim and Eric from Weird Science

DC Comics. Hello. Hello. How is everybody? I'm

fine. Told you man too many pizza fries bad night

Why are you eating pizza flies? Why would you

buy pizza with flies? The fries Pizza pizza ticks

they're blue Alright so we're here and A few

months ago, folks, when did we do that episode?

January? February? A few months ago. It actually

might have been December. I don't remember. The

three of us did a whole thing on the advanced

solicitations of the DC Comics Convergence event.

Jim and Eric, some of you have picked some Convergence

titles, which we've technically already talked

about, but that's alright. Just to refresh everyone's

memory here. We're gonna start with Jim's picks

first. His first pick is Convergence Nightwing

slash Oracle number one. Written by Gail Simone,

art by Jan Dersma and Dan Parsons. The cover

is by Jill Thompson. Variant cover designed by

Chip Kidd. Sorry Raphael, there's no variant

for you. No, no, no on sale This went on sale

April 8th. It is part 1 of 2 399 starring heroes

from the pre flashpoint DCU Just as they've finally

been reunited the romance between Dick Grayson

and Barbara Gordon is sentenced to execution

by flashpoint Hawkman and Hawkwoman We talked

about this like three months ago. I wish the

solicit would have changed between then and now.

Oh, it's not changing. I know, but I'm just saying

it's like I wish there was a little bit more

information on this. Well, it's enough for me

because we get Nightwing. We get Oracle, it's

by Gail Simone. I also like that Oracle is involved

after that debacle of the Raphael Albuquerque

cover, because there's certain people in DC,

a certain creative team we won't mention that

wants to sweep that under the carpet and pretend

it never happened, but you know what it did.

Who doesn't love Hawkman? Yeah, that's what I'm

talking about, Hawkman. Hawkman shooting Hawkwoman

in the leg. You know, I like the cover looks

pretty crazy. Hawkman smashing through a window.

There's Oracle at the sea. It's pretty cool.

But I anytime Nightwing's involved, I'm in. And

that's what I want. And Oracle is a bonus for

me. Gail Simone. I mean, I think it's going to

be good. Sounds like a good time. Yeah, it sounds

like a great time. The variant covers for these,

are these supposed to be like? Like combine covers

where it looks like they're supposed to yeah.

Yeah, I have no idea actually I really for all

the time that we talked that one time and then

this doing now I have kind of avoided convergence

like a plague and I'm not real excited for it,

but it's coming. That's that's what you get Sadly,

you can't avoid the inevitable. I'm actually

looking forward to more to Convergence now that

I enter the new books in June. The only reason

why I ask about the variant covers is because

it does look like they're supposed to be some

sort of combined cover, or maybe they're a wraparound

cover? Yeah, I think it would be a wraparound,

but I'm looking at the variants now, and yeah,

they're like a half, they actually look a lot

like the Death of the Family a little, those

wraparound covers, so I'm not sure, but I don't

think that, like I'm looking at these right now,

they would not get me to buy them. They aren't

gonna combine with something else because they're

pretty pretty lame All right Jim's next pick

is Convergence Suicide Squad number one written

by Frank Thierry art by Tom Mandrake cover by

John Paul Leon Variant cover by Chip Kidd it

is on sale would have been on sale April 15th

obviously 399 Starring heroes from the zero hour

when kingdom comes floating fortress of new oa

threatens metropolis it's up to amanda waller

to assemble a team of metropolis's deadliest

villains to stop it yes oh man they're gonna

die oh yeah you think yes uh and this one i picked

for two things first up i like frank tiari He

had actually kind of hinted at this issue a while

back to us, but wouldn't let us know about it.

And then it really never got back to us about

it either. But the other thing is that if you

look at the cover, it is the rightful Amanda

Waller. She is a large woman. Big old wall, baby.

Oh, she's a large woman. And I mean that you

also get the team, which looks pretty cool. It

has, Black Man is one of my favorites. Death

Strokes there, Bane, Deadshot. You got the, you

know, some standard issue ones, but I'm looking

forward to this. I want to see what Frank Terry

does. I have not enjoyed the Suicide Squad, the

normal run of the book as it's gone on recently.

So I'm hoping that this is a Suicide Squad issue

that I can get behind. And it has the big, big

lady, Amanda Waller. Wish they would just cast

CCH pounder in her role for everything. I You

don't want Oprah That's Does anyone want Oprah

in anything either? Seriously her fans and we're

sidetracking here folks I know this but her fans

basically only come out to her came out to her

show at the end of the year for her most favorite

things the audience could get I gotta know what

to buy, Mike. Actually, if you don't want Oprah,

maybe we'll get, who is it, Kel who's on Saturday

Night Live, or is that Kenan? No. I always get

Kenan and Kel mixed up, so Kenan, we get Kenan

out there, he gets up, dresses up like Big Mama,

and he's ready to roll. Nah, baby, it's gonna

be Medea and the Suicide Squad. Oh, God, okay.

We're idea guys, we're rolling. Right, right.

You talking about... me giving them bad ideas

come on now uh... jim's third pick is batman

and the outsiders number one from convergence

written by mark and rico art by carlos d and

uh... cover by andy cuba it's uh... very covered

by chip kid well chip kids get a lot of what

you want Who's on sale April 22nd 399 starring

heroes from crisis on infinite earths after a

year under the dome the outsiders have gone their

separate ways But when omak attacks Batman must

find out if they have what it takes to still

be a team What do you think of that Mike why

why should we pick this up why Because everybody

loves Batman Isn't that the isn't that the truth?

As long as a certain snide guy isn't writing

it sure well, I'm in it for black lightning They

should have a way more in the DC Universe deal

with him yeah, I like Mark and Draco so there

I like it So there and also I I don't know we

don't get much of these we've previews we've

got a covers and usually one page and I've gone

by that and like Eric said there's black lightning

looking cool Batman looks a little badass and

I like Marc and Draco so I have hopes from he

kind of ran the batwoman book into the ground

I'm hoping this is a redemption for him wait

was this the replacement guy that was the guy

who came on batwoman yes yes You know, they really

should have ended that book with the original

run. I actually was behind and I reviewed issue

39 today and I actually said that in the beginning

of my review that maybe it would have been better

to have ended it and then people wouldn't have

been so pissed off. part of his run. He kind

of got away from what made that book great, but

I like his writing in general. Like I said, I'm

hoping that this is kind of a thing where he

can go look. I'm not that bad. Take a look at

this and enjoy. So I'm in. And if you can make

GeoForce cool, I'm all about it. And black lightning's

in it. Jim's final pick for April for DC Comics

is Convergence's Swamp Thing number one, written

by the master himself, Len Wein. Art and cover

by Kelly Jones. Variant is Chip Kidd on sale

April 22nd. 399, starring heroes from the Crisis

on Infinite Earths. The Dome has cut off all

heroes from their powers. But what happens when

Swamp Thing is cut off from his life source?

In the green. Talk about not getting a hole -in

-one. Yeah. Well what um, I could I want any

Swamp Thing I can get now that it's canceled.

Right. And so just that I'm in. So Len Wein,

I'm in. I think this is going to be good, even

though I think Eric told me before there was

an issue after he took over this book, we were

reviewing it, that there was one where Swamp

Thing was disconnected from the green and he

acted all ridiculous, screaming and yelling about

it. So I'm hoping that happens again. Yeah, that

justly dark run wasn't very good towards the

end. He's at the end of time, and it looks like

they've been walking for a long time, and all

of a sudden he freaks out, I can't feel the green!

Yeah, and I can just see it now. He's gonna start

yelling it. Immediately started dying. Yes. So

yeah, I love Swamp Thing, so any Swamp Thing,

just like Nightwing. Now that we have no Nightwing

in DC right now, and we have Swamp Thing, but

he's just kind of a side character in other books.

I want to see another big Swamp Thing story.

That's crazy. All right, moving on to Eric's

picks. Didn't you pick this last month? New 52

features in, number 48. Pick the final issue

to earth to world's end I saved this one for

this because I didn't I didn't want to fill it

all up with convergence titles Okay, so but futures

end was or um world's end was an advanced elicit

wasn't it because it comes on on April 1st Who

doesn't it? Yes, it does 40. Yes. Yeah, that's

you know The 48s is what screwed me up anyway.

New 52 features in number 48 is Eric's first

choice written by Brian Azzarello, Jeff Lemire,

Dan Juergens, and Keith Giffen, everyone's favorite

writer. Art by Patrick Zurcher covered by Ryan

Sook. Ryan has a 1 in 50 variant cover here.

Is on sale April 1st, $2 .99. This is the final

issue according to DC. I am your future. I swear

to God Keith Giffen wrote that. You gotta spell

it out. It's I as in E -Y -E. That's clever.

Yeah. Oh boy. Why did you want us to talk about

this? It's the final issue of a year -long weekly.

It gives less information than the Nightwing

Oracle thing honestly that this is a if you've

been reading the book This is a lot of information

because right now we're at the home stretch of

this book and They're dealing with brother I

taking over the feud like the world and it's

why Batman Beyond came back in the beginning

to stop this So it's a big deal if you've been

reading the book brother eyes up and about and

shit looks bad And I can't wait for the ending

Eric's next book is the Multiversity number two

written by Grant Morrison art and cover by Ivan

Rice and Joe Prado There is a 1 in 10 1 in 25

1 in 50 and 1 in 100 variant covers by various

artists This is so come out April 1st. It is

$5 .99. Oh my god. Why would anyone spend that

much in a comic? Every event in history of the

DC Universe has been leading to this. The final

chapter of the greatest adventure of all time

is here. Issue number one. artist Ivan Rice returns

with mastermind Grant Morrison to end the Multiversity

and bring together their greatest and bravest

heroes of the DC multiverse to fight one last

battle But more than just some cabal of super

villains They face the greatest evil that ever

existed an evil so massive They actually may

not stand a chance who are the Mystic Justice

League of Earth 13 And what role is their leader

super demon play in the crisis cause raising

crisis raising all around them? What shocking

secret motivates the dark nightmare henchmen

known as the Gentry? And what is the final fate

of Nix Wutan and the Super God? You cannot miss

this final, stunning chapter of Grant Morrison's

ultimate superhero epic. This is the second issue.

Why is it the end already? Did the sales not

do too well? No, it's just there are gigantic

books. This is each one each month It's been

the most diversity and something different the

first month started with the most diversity number

one And this that was like seven months ago I

think now and this is actually the continuation

of that first issue and it's a big deal It's

the final it's the final one that we get to see

the culmination of everything that's taking place

in this Go down here and really I picked this

because I wanted you to read that long ass solicit

Yes Anybody's been a fan of the multi -versity

you're not gonna want to miss this one That's

like Eric and five people I think It's very Yeah

Like we were talking earlier certain movies are

too long this books too long for me That's why

it's $5 .99. I see that I'm out and it's not

the price. I just know it's oversized. I'm out

Mean, I don't mind, you know, you want to talk

about oversized. I've paid Oh 499 for or like

a 96 page book or something like that or whatever.

Well, I forget what it was It was what the hell

was it for? I don't know Anyway, you know, I've

paid for oversized in the past, but I'm sorry

six dollars even if the even if it is 56 pages

that's You know what else is oversized? Amanda

Waller in that Suicide Squad is. I think the

one that Mike paid that much money for was the

last issue of Amazing Spider -Man before Superior.

Am I correct? No, sadly, I missed out on that

one. Actually, it's funny. I started into comics

about two weeks after that released, issue 1

,000, and I couldn't find the regular cover anywhere.

I've got it. I don't. Eric's third choice is

Convergence Superboy number one written by Fabian

Nizia art by Carl Moline and Jose Marin jr. Covered

by Babstar. Oh boy so we get a Batgirl version

of Superboy. That means when Eric reviews this

he cannot tweet it They hate us Or hate Eric.

Yeah, I remember when people used to like me.

Yeah. Starring heroes from Zero Hour. Has Con

-El earned the right to be the new Man of Steel?

Con will have to prove his mettle in battle against

the Superman of Kingdom Come. But what if the

only way to save Metropolis is to lose the fight?

Yeah, what if, Mike? I don't know. That's pretty

much the question on everybody's mind for all

these convergence titles. Maybe I will like this

because I used to love the Marvel what -ifs when

I was a kid so maybe this will work out for me.

The reason I picked this bad boy is because I

feel we don't get enough Superboy in our daily

life and I'm really happy to see the Metropolis

kid brought back here. I don't like that cover.

If anybody's listening listen pulling up covers

of ad that cover is bad, that's the thing I'm

not looking at the covers right now So I actually

have no idea what it looks like but like I said

in my back row of use I don't dislike Babs Tars

art way. I just don't think it fits for back

girl Yeah, it don't fit for Superboy either I'm

telling you man, you're gonna like it's a cover.

It's not a bad big deal. It's just a cover No,

this is this is bad. Okay, first of all, but

you know No, it's it's really like cheesy. Oh,

yeah. This is one of the worst covers I've ever

seen Have you guys ever seen the episode of Cheers

where Carla shaves half of her old teacher's

head? That's exactly what this is. He Babs tar

has put Superboy in a buzz cut on the bottom

with his hair flowing over the top. That was

his look. It's the 90s Superboy. That was his

look. That was all hip in the 90s, brother. And

he's got these weird -ass long sunglasses all

the way down on the bridge of his nose like an

old granny, a smirk on the side of his face like,

hey, Supergirl just laid me. He's got his thumb

across his back with it going thumbs down because

he's pointing at the back of his jacket. Don't

mess with the ass. Yeah, oh my you guys hate

right now that sounds awesome to me Superboy,

oh my god and in the 90s I still had a mullet

so this this can't be the right I don't even

want to ask you how old you were back then I

just got pulled up the cover now. This looks

awesome. I don't care what I'm done with you

This is Superboy as I knew him growing up. Oh

my god. Have fun with it then. The Metropix hits

back people and you should check out Convergence

Superboy number one. Okay, Eric's final pick

is Convergence Green Lantern slash parallax number

one Written by Tony Bedard art by Ron Wagner

and Bill Reinhold Covered by Steve Lieber variant

cover by Chip Kidd again on sale April 15th 399

Starring heroes from the zero hour a powerless

Kyle Rayner visits a metropolis prison to see

a devastated Hal Jordan who believes he has murdered

the Green Lantern Corps but If the dome falls

and powers are restored, will Parallax return

to defend the city or destroy it? Oh, God. Held

Jordan... Held Jordan in prison. I love the end

of these. Everyone is... Oh, goodness. Oh, God.

We told you to leave the hate behind today, Mike.

Come on, it's convergence. You're excited. Yeah,

uh -huh. I will say I'm excited for the Nightwing

Oracle book and the Green Arrow book, which I

don't think any of us have picked today, but

just the idea of even John's allowing someone

to put Hal Jordan in prison is just hilarious

to me. It doesn't matter this is convergence

is during zero hour and I picked this and the

Superboy one purely out of nostalgia because

this is the 90s and This is the story arc for

Emerald Twilight That put how Jordan making making

him become parallax that got me into reading

Green Lantern And it's the beginning of Kyle

Rainer is my favorite Green Lantern and I think

this is gonna be amazing Well, there's nothing

ever no one's got nothing Get off your soapbox,

buddy. Hal Jordan, freakin' lover. I'm a Kyle

Rayner lover, but this is how Jordan is a bad

guy again. Parallax, it was a badass time in

comics. It's the 90s, man. 90s have returned

with a vengeance. It's weird, I'm looking at

the cover and he has the gray from there from

that time, but I don't see a shaved head like

you claimed everybody in the 90s had. No, I said

kids in the 90s had, teenagers. Were you a teenager

in the 90s, Jim? No, I didn't think so. Shut

up. I'm trying to think if I was. No. All right.

My picks for DC. I'm going completely off the

beaten path. You are going. You are going. I

don't know what vanilla I said. No. You're avoiding

convergence. Oh yeah. Well, we already spent,

what did we spend like an hour and a half, two

hours talking about it three months ago? That

was a long podcast. Yeah, it was. It was fun.

They're all fun. I don't like to hear Eric's

voice for that long, but we dealt with him. That

happens. Alright my picks I'm kind of cheating

with my first pick because it's solicited as

two issues But Batman Arkham Knight number two

and three both written by Peter Jay Tomasi art

by Victor Bogodanovich and others The cover is

done by Dan Panosian Let's see apparently in

April this series is shipping twice in issue

two Will the Clown Prince of Crime have the last

laugh from inside the grave? Find out when Harley

Quinn is Batman's only hope to save Commissioner

Gordon from the Joker's last will and testament.

Why am I envisioning Batman meets Star Wars right

now? Actually, this is the one, this is the collected

work of what's being released right now. Digitally,

yes. The second one came out yesterday and I

didn't like the first issue of this arc but...

I really like the second one that came out yesterday.

I am waiting for the collective. I can't do the

digital series anymore. I want to be able to

read a full -on comic. Unless, and I know this

isn't going to happen, but unless Kyle Higgins

is Batman Beyond... I was going to say, you used

to wait for that. I used to get messages from

you at six in the morning about that talk. I've

already read it. I was like, I'm at work. That's

like, yeah. It's like the only thing. So yeah,

and number three is... The Arkham Knight shadow

spreads across the city as Batman digs deeper

into the murders of villains And it will soon

put him on a collision course with the most dangerous

enemy He has ever faced all this and more on

this stunning prelude to the highly anticipated

video game continues They would not do that I

hope they would not uh... uh... uh... uh... uh...

uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh...

uh... uh... No, I'm not. Here we go. I am optimistic.

I think it was because I honestly think I felt

more jipped than anything because I thought what

I was buying was the number one full issue, the

one that does collect the first three digital

chapters. Yeah. So I think it was more of that,

but I do still have a point. I mean, essentially

the guy is a fucking tracer over overcapitalist

design. At least in that first. Yeah, well The

one that came out yesterday actually has it has

Harley in it And I really like his Harley and

I don't know that Kapoor has ever done a Harley.

So there he couldn't There is a couple panels

in this that actually look a lot like Patrick

Gleason in this issue yesterday, so maybe he

just grabs the best of every character and just

goes with it. Maybe. I like the art. I think

the art is really good. I said it the last time

we talked, especially for a digital title. I'm

very impressed with it. My next pick would be

The Flash Season 0 Number 7 written by Andrew

Kressberg. uh... kai wu and lauren certo art

by phil hester and eric capster uh... it's on

sale at the first uh... it's the flash versus

king shark can barely save his friends and himself

from this terrifying death machine what did you

say? he said fuck yeah i love king shark i thought

you said fuck it i was like wait what? he's like

it's over i'm out yeah we love king shark King

shark is this like a upscale version of Jabberjaw?

It usually comes to party though is what I heard

And, for me, the best for last here, obviously.

Can't go without talking about He -Man the Eternity

War, number five. Written by Dan Avnett, art

by Pop Mahon, covered by Stephen Sejic, on sale

April 29th. Too long between issues. Uh, it's

$2 .99. Skeletor has returned after his dramatic

appearance last issue. The question remains,

will he fight alongside He -Man and She -Ra,

or against them? Um, I'm not sure Yeah, I'm not

sure what to think so far on that because the

I think the cover for that one is I'm trying

to see what it is here the cover for that. I

know everyone's complaining about one of the

uh... that the human covers like oh that's uh...

it's usually the general complaints are every

message universe and i know that just doesn't

care about the dc comics uh... I mean, honestly,

if DC wasn't doing this, we wouldn't have a Masters

of the Universe comic anywhere. So, as far as

I'm concerned, they can all just shut the hell

up. Suck it hard. Suck it hard. I'm gonna step

back and let you nerds talk about this. Okay,

yeah. Now, are we talking about the one with

He -Man on the cover with our skulls all around

him? Yeah, that's not the one people are bitchin'

about. It's the next... It's the month... It's

number six with Panther. Oh, shit. Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah, the future He -Man one. Yeah, that's

the one people are bitching about, but the one

that has number five with all the skulls and

what I assume are Skeletor's arms, that sword

actually looks classic almost at this point.

It doesn't look like the stupid oversized piece

of crap he's been carrying around, so that's

kind of cool. What, do you want it to look like

2002's? No, I don't. I want it to look like 1983,

damn it. uh... but yeah and and the armor in

this kind of looks like nineteen eighty three

a bit too because i mean jesus christ the dudes

get a six -pack holy crap I remember when they

first brought this series back and was like,

hey, we're doing He -Man, yay. And then by issue

six, we're like, oh, no, we got to cover him

up and make him have red sort of Iron Man -ish

armor. We can't show any skin. And now they're

going the complete opposite direction. I dig

it. Who doesn't love a naked man, right? You

don't, so I don't want that. Everybody loves

a naked man. Oh, good Lord. now as I can think

of is a naked man? Tim Allen's first title of

his first book, Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked

Man. Oh, Lord. But I'm looking at this skull

cover. I think that looks badass and that one

that people are complaining about with issue

six. I thought that looked amazing. I can't wait

to read that issue. If the cover is referring

what's going on in that book, I need to read

that. If the cover is really Panther chewing

on battle cats bones, they better show us something

like that in the actual book. Yeah Because I

assume those are battle cats bones that he's

munching on in the issue 6 cover Well, I love

this whole run they've been doing like I was

wary about it switching over to eternity war

But I've been loving everything that we've been

getting so far Yep, absolutely So that's gonna

do it for April's Solicits We'll be back with

the DC guys in May for convergence part two.

Oh, yes I went a little just a little sneak peek.

I think I went a little generic myself for May.

I didn't pick any convergence titles I want really

yeah, I went with a lot of stuff. I refuse to

pick He's protesting. I need to see what the

first issues have so I can pick up a decent thing

to tell people about You're so important there.

Damn right, and I'm performing right now. That's

right, you're a performer, all right. Oh, Christ.

We're gonna get to an IDW after this, folks.

Oh my gosh, this is so great. All right, folks,

it is time for the IDW publishing April 2015

solicits, releases, all that good stuff. Joining

me once again, Nicole Hailstorm, hello. Bonjour,

aloha, hola. hello oh i was waiting for you know

who i am everyone knows who i am so this month

folks we have um a lot to go through we have

uh since i've started the profiling previews

episodes here inside the pull bag january february

and march are all right around or just like five

or ten minutes after the two -hour mark. The

entire podcast. So... We'll try to make it work

here. Yeah, but we've got a lot to talk about

here because between Disney and Gem and My Little

Pony, IDW is just kicking our ass in a good way,

but they're kicking our ass. I still haven't

forgiven them for taking off Ghostbusters though.

Oh boy, here we go. That was one of the best

comics I've read in years and they took it away

from me. Calm down. Calm down. Calm down. You're

alright. Okay. Alrighty then. Okay, we've got

first up for my picks we've got surprise surprise

Jim and the Holograms number two written by Kelly

Thompson art by Sophie Campbell Campbell and

Amy Memberson are on the covers as well truly

outrageous Jerrica Menton is Jim but does she

have what it takes to lead her underdog band

against the mega popular misfits? Jim and the

Holograms Jim and the Holograms on stage for

the first time, five stunning rainbow foil covers,

one classic gem cover for each band member of

The Misfits by Amy Meberson, plus one featuring

the whole band by series artist Sophie Campbell.

So this issue is a 399 issue, but because there

is a five cover box set or whatever, because

there are five different covers, They are, just

like what they did with issue 1, they're allowing

you to buy a Jim and the Holograms issue number

2 complete misfits holographic foil box set.

All of number 2's covers collected in a deluxe

rainbow foil and hologram collectible box includes

all 5 covers from Sophie Campbell and Amy Memberson.

This is $25 just like the first issues box set

was. As much as I love this stuff... And I think

it's great. I hope they're only doing it for

the first two issues I don't think we could do

a $25 box set for every single issue Unless they

get an exclusive whether they have to redo it

when Rhea comes about, you know You know, I actually

since the last time we did one of these podcasts

I actually Because I had posted we're not there

yet, but the June solicitations are already out

and I had posted on on Facebook I'm in a group

on over there called gem and friends I posted

in there the solicit for issue number four and

people are like wait, where's Raya? Why are they?

Why are they putting this out now? We don't even

know the first three issues and other people

commented and said well They put solicits out

two or three months in advance. Well, well and

somebody said what about Raya? I'm like, that's

a good question. I tweeted at Kelly Thompson

I'm like, so we're wondering when Rhea's gonna

show up. And she said that the first story arc

is going to be the first six issues of the comic.

The second story arc will be the next issue seven

and to whatever. But she did say Rhea does come

into play in the second arc of the story. So

maybe Rhea will get her own sub cover or something,

who knows? And the other thing you gotta think

about is. You got three other band members that

are not even here. You got the stingers So I

doubt they'll even bring those guys in for a

while No, no, no, I know but I'm saying like

another opportunity to do a box. Oh, okay They

may do the stingers Another real so are you super

excited? All right. Well, first of all, let me

ask you here since we're talking about Jim and

the holograms I already know the answer to this,

but I'm gonna ask it anyway. In case anyone doesn't

know, my obsession. Yeah, right. What is your

favorite of the Misfit covers? I gotta go with

my girl Roxy, man. I do like the Pizzazz one

because she actually kind of looks friendly in

that picture. No, she doesn't. I think it's really

funny on the Pizzazz cover. She's not a She's

D. She's not even she's like the head lead singer

of the band and she's the D cover I Think that's

because the because the cover a is the main cover

But I mean she's even Yeah, she should be yeah

I don't know. I really like the Storm Recover.

I think, you know, it really does imbibe, especially

the... The way they have these covers, folks,

is they have a half face shot of the front of

the design, and then they have a back shot of

them, you know, kind of looking over their shoulder.

The only thing, and I understand these are covers

and these have nothing to do with the actual

issue, I notice, because the first issue, at

this point, by the time this podcast releases,

we'll have already been out, these covers are

nothing like what Sophie Campbell's art is in

the book. Because they're trying to bring awareness

of all shapes and sizes of women, which I think

is great. I'm not complaining. I'm just saying,

I guess these covers are meant to highlight the

original series, the original cartoon, more so

than the actual art. Your overall thoughts here?

I think they're gorgeous. I love these covers.

They're really great. Of course, I prefer the

Misfits, but I love the vibrance of the colors

that they've used. And yeah, I really enjoy each

one of them. It looks great. Absolutely. Also

recently I've noticed that people are not really

complaining but asking why isn't Marvel doing

Disney comics since Disney bought Marvel. They're

too much into their Star Wars. Not that that's

a bad thing either. No it's not. I mean Marvel

has never been great with the all -ages stuff

they've just never really I'm not saying great

is in quality I'm saying is in you know putting

it out like even DC DC is not that great with

it I mean they have you know they have tiny titan

so which is my favorite DC book that's out there

right now yeah but so IDW you know our franchise

publisher here you know our you know publisher

for our childhoods uh has got a deal with disney

to do disney comics and we have uncle scrooge

this is gonna be awesome um so we have uncle

scrooge and it's uh it is the very first issue

it's issue number one of uncle scrooge here and

uh it's some of these are going to be reprinted

some of these are going to be new ones as far

as i understood as far as i understand it i should

say jonathan gray and rudolfo cinema are on writing

romano scarpa is on art and georgio cavazano

is on covers or colors walk disney's richest

epic hero returns in the wrath of gigabeagle

money bin meets a monster -sized beagle boy mech

This is a $3 .99 book. It says, monthly Disney

comics are back from IDW. Fan favorite creators,

Romano Scarpa, legendary Italian Uncle Scrooge

Master, and Jonathan Gray, Sonic the Hedgehog,

and more. Capcom's recent DuckTales remastered

video game has brought Scrooge McDuck back to

Disney stardom. See what all the quacking is

about. I'm really looking forward to the Disney

stuff. This is going to be such fun. Am just

crossing my fingers cuz I will drop every other

book I need to I'm crossing my fingers that they

do Darkwing Darkwing duck damn it Come on come

on IDW So Darkwing into like a older comic but

I can see where they would want yeah all ages

Thoughts on uncle Scrooge it's gonna be a rock.

It's gonna be awesome. It's gonna rock. Yep.

Yeah Rocksome. Rocksome. Oh my god. My third

choice is kind of a new thing. It's a spotlight.

It's issue 106. It's a title called Infinite

Loop. It's written by, I'm probably going to

screw this name up, folks, so just go with me

here. Perik Kolinet. Kolinet. Sorry. See, I told

you. And Elsa. Chariter on art and covers Charter

thank you A dynamically graphic science fiction

a poetical paradoxical Wonder kind of sexy time

-traveling adventure packed comic series begins

here Apparently this is a crowdfunded sci -fi

phenom So that's I don't know I just That solicitation,

I read that and I'm like, okay, this is something

I need to at least check out the first issue.

I think it looks interesting. I've heard about

it. It sounds very interesting, so. And we can't

do IDW publishing solicits without talking about

Transformers Windblade Combiner Wars number two.

Yay! Wait, where's Sarah? what the hell as much

as i love as much as much as i love livio margaret

scott is on writing livio remandelli is on art

and casey collier is on covers but you gotta

remember this is this might be i know this is

combined yeah i know it is but it just Prowl

makes his move when the galaxy will never be

the same can wind blade stand against the threat

of the combiner's this is combiner wars part

3 the biggest battle on Cybertron is about to

get bigger and the variant has real combiner

wars poster covers is apparently on this one

as well um We have read as of this recording

uh... by the time this releases we would have

read and reviewed wind blade number one uh...

as of this recording i have read it nicole has

not had a chance to sit down and read it yet

my social life is going to kill me so i need

to sit down and actually read it i haven't picked

up my comic book for two weeks how crazy is that

your social life is going to kill you that's

just scary i was up for thirty eight hours last

night or the last two days. That doesn't make

sense. That's how you set this. I've been up,

I was up for 38 hours straight because I thought

I want to go play instead of sleep. You know,

I gotta say I'm not too pleased with The combiner

war stuff not not not form the book formerly

known as rid or more than meets the eye the wind

blade stuff like To me this is something that

marigold and Sarah did together when they started

it, and I know this is all tying into the combiner

war stuff, but I Mean, I don't even think Sarah's

on cover. I don't even think she doesn't cover

for any of us Yeah, no Sarah's not No, she's

doing one of them for on transformers. It's just

a transformer title. Yeah Yeah Don't know how

I feel about all that. But anyway for Nicole's

pick we're gonna actually shotgun through some

of these because it's good. Yeah, okay She wanted

to talk about my little pony fiend ship is magic,

okay, okay because you know me I love my pony.

Yeah, but I love my bad guys. I love bad guys

And here we go, people. They're spotlighting

the bad guys. And it's gonna be awesome! This

is comic book resources gem of the month for

April. My little pony fiend ship is magic number

the secret origins of the Equestria's greatest

Finch of his magic number two Tarek Tarek. Yep.

Yeah Tarek was a very Milo pony's very very very

very very first villain I'm talking eighties

He was the one with the rainbow darkness and

he turned all the ponies into dragons And he

was also in this last season of Friendship is

Magic. And oh my gosh, I squeed so hard when

I saw he was going to be in the TV series. And

now he's going to be in the comic book form.

Yay! Tarek's mad quest for power starts here.

Christina Rice is on writing, Tony Flex or Fleeks

is on the art, and Amy Memberson is on covers.

This is expected to have been in stores on April

8th. It also, excuse me, goes on to say, Young,

Tarek, and Scorpan uncover sinister mysteries,

dun dun dun. My little pony a fiend ship is magic

number three sirens Ted Anderson is on writing

Agnes Garbosa is on art and Amy's back on covers

the sirens from Rainbow Rocks Equestria origin

It also says a musical duel with star swirl He

was magic number four nightmare moon written

by heather knuffer art by tony flex or fleeks

amy's back on cover is the untold story of what

nightmare moon did during her time on the moon

yeah because she was banished to the moon for

a long time and the other part that'll be interesting

because that's gonna be like i have a prequel

so we'll see right right uh the other part of

the solicits is a dream battle unlike anything

you've ever seen Feinship is magic number five,

Queen Chrysalis. Katie Cook is on writing for

Solace. Whatever. No, no. She's scary. She's

scary. You don't want to mess with her. Okay.

Andy Price is on art and Amy's on covers. The

ponies visit the imprisoned Chrysalis. What secret

is she hiding? Dun dun dun. Sets the stage for

a future MLP story arc. Oh, cool. She's a changeling.

So, and she's got a lot of minions. So, she can

do some scary stuff. Alright. So, we have one

last thing with the Fiendship is Magic here.

Just like Gemini Hologram's My Little Pony Fiendship

is Magic number one, five complete box set. Want

to collect all the covers, but don't have the

time to chase them down? Buy the entire series

in a deluxe collectible box. Includes all five

issues with the covers from Amy Memberson. This

is 20 bucks. Important note, the Feenship is

Magic complete box set will be in stores on April

29th, hitting the same time as the fifth issue

of the series. Interesting. I assume that's another

box you'll be getting. Well, I'll probably already

have all the covers. We'll see. Maybe I can sell

my covers and just get the... I can't wait a

whole month to read about the villains. Sure

you could. No! Maybe you can, but I can't. Alright

Nicole's next choice is the fly outbreak number

two of five written by Brandon Seifert art and

colors and covers by mint and three a disaster

at Bartok Industries threatens to unleash a plague

of human fly hybrids on the world Quarantine

prevent a full outbreak I love my monsters too.

Yeah, it sounds like a real mystery. Nicole's

third choice is Miami Vice I think it's called

Miami Vice remix number two Joe Casey's on writing

Jim Mahfood is on art and covers Someone from

Crockett's past is back and promises that detective

Sonny Crockett will pay for his crimes From the

minds of renowned creators Joe Casey and Jim

Mahfood voodoo zombies and more Oh, this is also

right up your alley. Yep. Look at that cover.

That's what I know I know those covers are amazing.

It's it's like they're channeling Philip Michael

Thomas and Don Johnson from the 80s The pop colors

is awesome Absolutely All right, Nicole's final

choice is a trade paperback it Does not seem

to say when it'll be coming out. I assume it's

going to be uh... in april at some point but

if you usually with well usually trades they

they they they will put a date on it like if

it's you know the usually most of them put a

date on it but it's seven sword john raffo is

on writing nelson blake the second and that there

are many on our Our I'm in I should say Andrew

Robinson is on covers science fiction meets samurai

the Chronicles of Daniel Cray samurai mercenary

Collects these six issue series. This is 20 bucks

168 pages This comic seems to have everything

going for it robots mutants samurai I was the

only person I know that read this series first

and it was really it was a really good series

I really enjoyed it. That's why I'm hoping the

trade paperback does well The seventh sword is

like a mystical item, and they're trying to find

it, so it helps this world of theirs. It's just

really good. A lot of action, a lot of fun stuff

in it. Definitely. Very awesome, very awesome.

So a lot of cool things from IDW to look forward

to coming in April. You've got their Disney comics

with Uncle Scrooge. You've got Gem and the Holograms.

You've got Feenship is Magic. You know, you've

also got the Transformers stuff that's going

on with Combiner Wars. Turtles, even though we

didn't talk about any Turtles solicits this time

around. They're on their way to their landmark

50th issue. That's crazy. I have all of them!

Yeah, and sadly It's not true I hope not We're

not even gonna tell you what we're talking about

folks, but I really do hope not so coming up

next we're gonna tell them There was over that

turtles Was gonna go into the soup Yeah There

was a rumor that got started by a certain website

that shall remain nameless because they like,

you know enacting on all their clickbait That's

a topic we can discuss another time. Yeah Alright

folks image comics is up next. So let's head

on over there. We'll be back after this It's

showtime synergy the latest review podcast from

the geek cast radio network is here So join TFG

one Mike Nicole hailstorm and myself lady rec

as we will be reviewing all 65 episodes of Joe

and the holograms in a 25 episode long podcast

You can find Showtime Synergy on iTunes and GeekCastRadio

.com. We are the truly outrageous podcast that

you want to be listening to. All right, folks.

So we've dealt with DC and IDW. It is time now

to talk about Image Comics. And joining me once

again is Jeremy Fine. Hello, sir. Oh, good, sir.

It is the month of April and we are here to talk

about April releases for Image Comics. uh...

let's see here i actually only have three this

time around i couldn't find a fourth that i was

really super excited about or super interested

in but for jeremy's takes he's got elephant man

number sixty four story by richard starkins art

by carlos pedro cover by pia guerrera uh... comes

out april twenty ninth It will be a $3 .99 book.

How did it get so late so soon? Hip Flask and

Mickey spend a night in... Why should we be checking

this one out, sir? Okay. Again, with Image Comics,

they seem to either recycle other ideas or...

It's mainly fan fiction, but for me... We have

the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the IDW universe,

so for image we have elephants and other pachyderms,

which is interesting. I mean, you know, TMNT

are gonna have a mutated rhino, well here you

have a mutated hippopotamus. Instead of turtles

you have elephants, but the difference between

the elephants and the turtles is that they were

created by man as weapons, and then when the

project went bust, the elephants pretty much

walk amongst the humans and in the beginning

they're not really treated so much as the turtles

that they're just considered to be freaks and

instead of an april kneel character we have this

little girl that just comes across one of the

elephants and they have names like the turtles

you know you got hip flask ebony you know hide

you get it and like the turtles out in the open

they try to wear trench coats and somehow when

the turtles wear trench coats and hats they're

never discovered when the elephants wear people

know that they talk and you know it's really

hard to cover up an elephant um it's hard if

you've never heard of elephant men because this

is a 2006 comic and now it's been you know 2015

so it's been you know several years and now we're

already up to issue You know 60 64. Yeah So you

really have to go back to the beginning but the

best thing that I could recommend is that if

you're looking for a TMNT knockoff this is the

best way that I would say for image about Creatures

that are trying to you know Live amongst the

humans and try to understand humans. It's also

based a tad of one of my favorite science fiction

novels do android stream of electric sheep where

pretty much all animal life on earth is pretty

much gone and anyone who couldn't afford to leave

earth has to stay on earth and anything like

a cricket is similar to a dog so i kind of like

that idea i also like the idea that you know

It's sort of based on my favorite movie elephant

man, you know from 1980 so it's pretty much You

know dealing with if the turtles could live amongst

humans you know how would it work and work a

little bit something like this but their enemies

as i said or or not just right now services their

hippopotamuses so it's pretty much anything that

you know you have you have zebras you have i

you know as you have gorillas you got crocodiles

which anything and of course get a warthog as

well as you know you have the right on warthog

fight the you know the good guys uh... but all

in all it's it's really hard You haven't read

issue one or read the series I came across out

of dumb luck when I was at a comic book store

I thought it was a joke but It's not a bad read

you will have to start from the beginning if

you're you know new to the series because as

I said there are some similarities to the turtles

and There are similarities that you know kind

of deal with everyday you know government projects

to go kaput and You know, what do you how do

you survive when the government cuts you off?

Mmm, so I kind of like that social commentary

and and of course it deals with birth defects

Pretty much any type of social commentary about

outcasts is it's a good book All right, so next

up we've got God hates astronauts number seven

Story art cover a done by Ryan Brown cover be

by Aaron Connelly Came out April 1st. It's 350

What are we gonna do without stargrass? It's

about time someone did something to fix that

problem. Ah God hits astronauts. I told you we

have to roundtable this one. Yeah, you know,

here's the thing I will give and I've reviewed

this and I've written, you know review Ryan Brown

has the Get credit where creditors do but this

almost seems like a six -year -old who you know

in kindergarten will Draw something and just

call it whatever the character is doing like

there's a character called, you know lieutenant

I'm sorry Admiral tiger eating a cheeseburger.

Well, it's an admiral. He's a tiger and he eats

a cheeseburger That's pretty much all he does.

I guess he's supposed to be like the zap brannigan

Uh, you know what zap brannigan is the futurama

But it's pretty much just making fun of hand

-me -down action figures. And they are the most

messed up. I mean, they have a doctor that's

a rhinoceros, but he's called, you know, doctor,

physician, where, you know, he's a doctor and

a physician, of course. And he's their doctor

and in -house rhino, if that makes any sense.

Um, you have the team's leader that is immortal,

but he could still get injured. And when his

head gets bashed in, it just turns into this

giant tumor that explodes. And a cow's head that

was a ghost of a cow takes over the new head.

The guy becomes more arrogant. Um, you have,

you literally have the court of owls. I'm not

making, it's lawyers that are, you know, owls.

There's no plot it's pretty much just People

that are just things and what they're doing at

the moment is what they're called It's really

hard to explain the plot and then it goes after

hillbilly scientists because there is a reality

show in real life about hillbilly scientists

and They're pretty much Trying to build rockets

to go to the moon and the government doesn't

want them to so these Outcast superheroes do

what they can to try to stop hillbilly scientists

and just do anything for ego You have this Security

guard that literally has gorillas for arms, and

he can't handle his own strength these ripping

things and people apart. It's it's It's the most

bizarre comic I've ever read And then of course

you have a hippopotamus. That's just you know

Admiral hippopotamus big -mouth thing yeah All

right up next we get Saga number 27 story by

Brian Kayvon art and cover by Fiona Staples Comes

out April 8 there came out April 8 299 This is

by far the worst. I hate solicitations like this

folks poor Marco. That's all it says for a solicitation

Yes Again, I guess is their version of Star Wars

But a little bit more intense. I mean I go back

don't get me wrong. I'm not I'm not judging the

series I'm judging the solicitation what little

they put out for that. That's not a solicitation

No, it's not a solicitation and For anyone who

has not read saga or hasn't heard of it. I've

only heard about it back in September It's I

guess images version of Star Wars before you

know, the Marvel Star Wars comics came to be

So if you couldn't you know, I guess these are

like the second cousins twice removed or whatever

The series is interesting. I mean You know, I

was hooked with issue one where you know FEMA

character gives birth and she feels like it's

like taking a gigantic dump If you like goathead

creatures, you still get the battle between good

and evil like the characters, but I wasn't a

fan too much of this issue. This one wasn't my

favorite. I don't think they were trying to promote

this one as much. I think they're just hoping

that, you know, saga versus... Marvel Star Wars,

you know, which one is gonna be better and why

and I don't really think they were trying to

push this one too much I think they're kind of

afraid of what Marvel because they have more

money of what they're trying to do to push You

know the Marvel Star Wars series and they're

you know, they're spin -offs Yeah I don't know.

I'm and I've heard great things about saga I'll

check it out eventually, but it's not something

that's on my radar right away Up last for Jeremy's

picks is the Walking Dead number 140 story by

Kirkman art by Charlie Adlard Stefano Guadino

and Cliff Rathburn Covered by Charlie Adler and

Dave Stewart came out April 8th It's a black

-and -white comic It is a mature comic and it

is $2 .99 and it once again is Another stupid

solicitation because it has three words life

and death Yeah, you know as you know, I've been

writing the reviews for TV series. Yeah for walking

this season 5 and For a while, I stopped reading

the comic because of the TV show, because I was

like, the actors come on, and I feel the actors

helped to bring these characters to life a lot

better than the comic. It's black and white.

I get it. The problem is, is that ever since

season five came around, the true fans are kind

of like, when's Negan coming? When's Negan coming?

Because it's this guy who has a baseball bat

with barbed wire and he calls him Lucille. I

wasn't... Too much of a fan if anything because

I started to go, you know jump ahead read the

comics worried about the TV show but I Don't

want to spoil too much This issue right now.

It's post Negan and their battle because it was

a very long battle and probably the longest arc

you'll ever see in a comic I know that's at least

for an image comic But Kirkman has said that

he's taken Rick through a lot and done a lot

with Rick. I have heard a lot of rumors that

they're going to kill Rick off, which is nothing

new for a zombie survivalist story. The main

character has usually died in zombie stories,

so Rick lasting this long I think would get world's

record for a fictional character in a zombie

outbreak The problem is I'm just getting bored

with people It's not the zombies you have to

be scared of anymore. It's the humans and everybody

seems to have like the King Smurf attitude and

I'm just bored with it about you know, it was

okay in the beginning but to have a power struggle

over a bag of potato chips and land and Whether

or not they do or don't know what this virus

is is getting bored and the problem is is that

the zombie kills? some of them are ingenious

and some of them they're trying way too hard

and They're so concerned about killing off Characters

that we're getting to know that serve a purpose

and bump both in the show the comic Okay, are

you talking about the show or the comic when

you when you're saying this about killing off

characters and stuff? It's both. See, the problem

is in the comic, I don't know if you ever watch

the show. No, never. I will never watch that

show. OK. For fans of the show, there's a character,

Carol, that, you know, that died, I would say,

by season three in the comic. In the show, she's

very much alive. The kind of changing who they're

keeping and who they're killing off way too soon

and, you know. but there's a nice little balance

but the problem is for both the comic and the

show for both they're still doing this where

they're building up characters and they're bumping

them off way too soon both in both mediums but

with both the comic and the tv show at this point

i'm just getting so tired of Who's gonna get

killed off next and more of character development

in both mediums is my yeah And I don't know what

else they could really do with Rick and I don't

know what else they could do with who has ever

left and that's the problem because Every day

it seems to be about more survival Than what's

the cause of what's happening in this world and

and that seems to be where they're hitting No

pun intended a dead end. It's a great. It was

a great series But I think it's time to leave

the party before the party leaves you. I mean,

George Romero has. After Night of the Living

Dead, I understand that he wanted, you know,

because he forgot to put that copyright. So he

tried to make another movie to, you know, to

get rich and rightfully so. And thankfully, I

guess with Dawn of the Dead and I'll give him,

you know, Land of the Dead. But anything past

that or in between now, I think one zombie too

many is just getting to be. You know, boring.

Alright, my first pick up for Image in April

is Invisible Republic number two. I am not sure

about this series, folks. I got really excited

about it when I read the solicitation for number

one last month, but I'm just not sure. I still

have yet to read the first issue. I want to,

but I just haven't. A story by Gabrielle Hardman

and Corinna Bechko. Be ch ko so I hope I'm pronouncing

it right aren't covered by Gabriella Hardman

Colors done by Jordan Boyd Comes at April 22nd.

It is a mature comic 299 the brutal rise of Arthur

McBride Arthur and Maya are on the run in a hostile

city after their active violence at Bright Rock

Beach Meanwhile disgraced reporter Crudger Babb

is threatened by a conspiracy from the past as

he investigates Maya's story. I'm still willing

to give this one a chance. It sounds really interesting,

but I'm just not sure at this point. I will say

if you guys want a new story, new character,

something you've never read before, pick this

up. But it's not... I'm on the fence about it

right now until I read at least issue one. Next

for me. I like I said, I only have three this

time around there wasn't really anything else

in the image Solicits for April that I really

wanted to bring up There was no solicit for sex

criminals at all The solicit for chew number

48 basically just told us why The cover is a

reprint of 43's cover because apparently the

cover for 48 is so spoiler heavy that they couldn't

show us or it wasn't ready in time or something,

so that wasn't even worth mentioning. Don't get

me wrong, I love John Layman and Chew and all

that stuff, but it just wasn't worth mentioning.

So second for me is Descender number two, story

by Jeff Lemire, art and cover by Dustin Ajin.

Came on April 8th. It is 299 as the brutal robot

hunting Scrappers close in on Tim 21 the events

that first brought him into the mining colony

on the outer edges of space are revealed If you

heard our The pullback episode 100 folks you'll

know that Jeremy and I both really enjoyed the

first issue of this and I'm really looking forward

to the second issue So I kind of can't wait for

this one yeah, I think we It's been a while,

but I think we agree We were gonna see if we

could do like a separate show discussing this

comic like I don't know yeah at some point We

will I mean if I could pick if I could you know

put in a request down the road for us I think

you would like elephant men and definitely, you

know this comic as well but i as i've said before

not to be repetitious i've you know i'm done

with stuff like bitch planet even raspbutin it's

oh really yeah you know well bitch planet you

know i could just sit and watch a grindhouse

movie or or a john waters movie and it's pretty

much the same and raspbutin um like we've discussed

i can watch it you know the Anastasia or I can

watch Ghostbusters 2 or I can watch Hellboy and

I can get the same umph out of it more than I

could reading. I love the imagery but there's

not really much of a story. Well, Descender has

a pretty good story for the most part. I mean...

Oh, Descender, I like. Yeah, Descender. Yeah,

I mean... Gotta talk about, yeah. Oh, yeah, absolutely.

So, my final choice, no surprise to anybody here.

Cowell number 11, story by Kyle Higgins and Alex

Siegel, art and cover by Rod Rice. Comes out

April 29th. It is a $3 .99 book, so they upped

the price on this. It used to be $3 .50. What?

They upped it. Yeah. It's all crazy. Well, you

know what it is. It's supply and demand, you

know. Well, that and plus, I think the reason

why this is upped for the price, it's not supply

and demand. It's because it says in the solicit,

arc two comes to a close with a monster issue,

which I, well no, it's only 32 pages. So, it's

not a bonus, it's not a double issue, so I don't

know why they upped it. Or maybe it is supply

and demand. But anyway, all of Jeffrey's lies,

secrets, and rationalizations have led to this.

Plus, Radia's public stand against Cowell. Will

she win the independence she wants? And does

Arkalight have a future with Cowell? Or at all?

You know, with Cowell, I'm absolutely loving

it. I think it's great. The story so far has

been superb. I love what they're doing with the

book. I still have to sit down and read Cal.

Yeah, you need to. Alright folks, we're gonna

get out of here and we're gonna head on over

to Marvel Solicits after this. Hey Geekcast listeners,

do you ever listen to Punisher Body Count and

think to yourself, this show would be awesome

Alright, folks, it's time to talk about Marvel

in April 2015 releases. Joining me, as always,

is JT from Saskatoon. Hello. Good day. How you

doing? How are you? Um, uh, that's... The last

24 hours haven't been exactly stellar, nothing

extremely negative, just a lot of, uh, jeez.

Yeah, you know it's one of those one of those

just you're ready to just hit your head against

your desk like 25 times or take somebody else's

head and smash it into a wall Get my car and

start driving and never come back, but that's

neither here nor there I Hear back I hear Wadi

Kentucky is looking for some residents if you

want to join It's one of the most out -of -the

-way places in Kentucky. But anyway, we are here

to talk about the Marvel Comics releases for

April 2015. JT Spix's first pickup is Kanan the

last Padawan number one. I assume I'm saying

that right? Yes. Yes, you are. It could have

been Kanan or Conan or who knows. No, it's Kanan.

Oh, God. I should have never said Conan. Oh my

god, that idiot. Conan, what is best in life?

It was written by Greg Wiseman. Art by Pippi

Lapew. I'm sorry, Pippi Larraz. Covered by Mark

Brooks. Kanan Jarrus, in Star Wars Rebels, he's

a cocky, sarcastic renegade fighting against

the Galactic Empire alongside the rad tag crew

of the Ghosts, but years before, at the height

of the Clone Wars, he was known as Caleb Doom,

Jedi Padawan under the instruction of Jedi Master

Depa Bilaba? Bilaba. Whatever. It's kind of like

Bilbo Baggins for crap's sake. Neither master

nor apprentice ever suspected that the clone

troopers they commanded would turn on them upon

issuing Order 66, the order to execute all Jedi.

How did Caleb Dune survive? How did he learn

to survive on his own? And how did he become

the man we know as Caden Jarrus? Right here,

Greg Wiseman. executive producer on Star Wars

Rebels, spectacular Spider -Man and others, and

artist Pepe Laraz, Deadpool vs. X -Force, Thor,

and Human bring us a tale bridging the years

between the Clone Wars and the Rebels. This is

a $3 .99 book. It is out now, I believe. Yep.

Um, why are you wanting people to check this

one out? Well, number one, it's written by the

creator or one of the main creators behind Gargoyles.

Greg Wiseman. Two, it's the origin story of my

favorite character in Star Wars, Rebels. And

three, it's just a badass origin issue. I mean,

if you've watched Rebels, you more than likely

love the series if you love Star Wars. Is he

the one that's supposed to be the Han Solo type

of leader? Yeah, he's the one voiced by Freddie

Prinze Jr. That's not gonna help me cuz I He's

the he's the one that he has that badass moment

in like the first episode that he's walking towards

the Star troopers that are firing at him and

he's just putting together his lightsaber and

then he lights up and everyone okay, so he's

he's the He's the Han Solo to the little kids

loop version, right? Yeah, he's the he's the

Han Solo slash Obi -Wan to Ezra. But this is

something that's come up over the course of the

season like in little bits here and there, you

know, he used to be a Jedi, you know, his master

was felled during, you know, the issuing of Order

66 and this is just the origin of my favorite

character in this series. I mean, Pepe Luraz's

art is actually really good. It's kind of sort

of reminiscent of Mark Brooks' art. Of course,

he's the cover artist. And it's just kind of

finally, they'll never show this in the show,

at least in this format, but it's nice. I'm definitely

getting this whole miniseries. you know, in order

to, you know, I want to know the story of his

origin, you know, who he is and how he came to

be and all that. But like I said, Laraz's art,

it's very, it's very fluid. It's, I wouldn't

say like it's not cartoon animated. There's just

a lot of energy in it. Even in the quiet ones,

because they have like towards the end of this

first issue, because it's already out by the

time we're recording this. It's after the...

last part of the book is after this battle between

uh you know the droid army and then you know

canin and these uh clone troopers and you see

that they're all kind of friendly and they're

it's almost like they're a family and then order

66 comes down and shit's gonna get hella real

so definitely pick this up people awesome jt's

next pick is avengers ultron forever number one

Al Ewing is on writing, I've never heard of him.

So no clue who he is. Alan Davis is on art and

covers. You have an Avengers universe movie connecting

to covers B and C. You also have a Scotty Young

variant. And then some other variant by TBA.

Part 1 of 3, the start of a three -part Avengers

event. 500 years into the future, Ultron has

won. Humanity is all but extinct, dead or enslaved

by the Ultron singularity. Now, seven Avengers

are brought through time by Dr. Doom to battle

the machine god for the fate of the cosmos. Or

die trying. It begins here, an epic adventure

spanning the past and future of the Avengers.

As a one -shot, it is going to be a $4 .99 book,

and it is out now. I actually looked this up

on Comixology before we started, and with the

whole thing of Age of Ultron coming out and all

that this summer, I'm like, ooh, this looks really

cool. What about, what drew you to this one?

Well, this one kind of drew it to me because

one of my favorite Avengers stories of the last,

say, 20 years was a 12 -issue Maxi series that

was done in the late 90s called Avengers Forever,

where This time this team of Avengers drawn from

like various eras of the team. So we've got like

the time We've got Hank Pym Yellowjacket, but

this is like just after became Yellowjacket.

He hasn't smacked Janet van Dyne around. We've

got Captain America from the time that he walked

in he found out who the head of the secret Empire

was and he's kind of disillusioned he's Potentially

gonna quit the Avengers, you know the ends various

other you know Hawkeye and Giant Man and Wasp

from other eras. I've always kind of liked when

Avengers do time travel -esque stories like this.

Now this one a lot of people are taking the piss

with because it's in the future and Ultron sending

stuff back in time to take out humanity so like

oh they're just doing Age of Ultron again. It's

not that bad. It's only being done in three parts

and it's specifically kind of staring stuff towards,

you know, they're doing another Ultron time travel

story. And I just like I said, I love Avengers

stories like that. And it's the characters involved.

We've got like the original Green Hulk, you know,

from like the Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, like first

six issues they published back in the sixties.

We've got the Thor in the full chainmail armor

costume from a time just before Erik Masterson

got into the mix. We've got Danielle Cage, the

daughter of Luke Cage, who apparently grows up

to not only have her parents super abilities,

she becomes the next Captain America. And they're

all brought together by this Doctor Doom, or

is he? in order to deal with, you know, this

Ultron singularity, which is something they kind

of set up in an Avengers storyline late last

year, where they had this storyline where Captain

America remembered being part of the Illuminati,

and then getting his memory wiped when it turned

out they're having these incursions where these

alternate earths are encroaching on... you know,

Earth -616, and they have to destroy the Otherworld

to survive, and it's all kind of tying into Secret

Wars and all that. It's just, there's all sorts

of threads connecting this, and I've been following

along, because I've been reading Avengers ever

since, you know, Heroes Reborn, basically. And

it's just, it's Alan Davis art. This guy has

been doing Marvel art for, since... I know him

from at least the mid -90s on, probably even

earlier than that, and it's just the idea that

they're going into this future where absolutely

everything is controlled by Ultron. They're fighting

a losing battle and they're going to find a way

to hopefully save the day. I just kind of love

these almost apocalyptic Avengers stories as

well. Yeah, it sounds pretty interesting. It

looks pretty interesting. Go check it out folks

I'm not sure if it's war. I'm not not the content

of the book but For 40 pages, I'm not sure it's

worth $4 .99, though. I haven't picked this one

up yet. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Let's put it this way, my final word on this.

If you like Time Travel Avengers story, pick

it up. If you want something that's done fairly

quickly, pick it up because they're only doing

this in three special issues. Yeah, three special

one shots over the course of basically the next

couple of months just prior to, you know, Age

of Ultron. Well, no, Secret Wars. Oh, okay, and

it's not like it's spanning because what is Age

of Ultron was like ten issues not counting all

the tie -in stuff and a couple of the spin -off

miniseries like I Love it. Well, I thought you

I will when I said Age of Ultron I was referring

to the movie in advance of the movie. Yeah. No,

it's Because the third issue I think comes out

in me, but it's after AOU comes out. I'm just

saying because the original storyline took place

over, like I said, the 10 issues plus all these

tie -in titles and that makes it hard on the

wallet and hard on your brain to keep track of

everything. So if you want a good time traveling

adventure story, three issues can't go wrong.

Absolutely. Alright, so JT's next pick is Guardians

3000 Number 7 written by Dan Abnett. Gerardo

Sandoval is on art and covers. Welcome to 21st

Century Earth. Guardians meet the Guardians of

the Galaxy. The Guardians meet the Guardians.

What could possibly go wrong? Guests starring

Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax, Gamora, Star -Lord,

and Star -Lord, and time travel craziness. This

is a $3 .99 book. Sometimes I like Dan Abnett

when he writes his own solicits and sometimes

I just look at it and shake my head. This is

one of those ones where I look at it and shake

my head. Because you can clearly tell when either

he or Keith Geffen or... You can clearly tell

when some of the actual writers of books write

their own solicits. Yeah. No, it's uh... Go ahead.

I've been a huge fan of Dan Avmint for quite

a few years now, since I think he was working

on the original Annihilation storyline, which

brought a crap ton of life back to the Marvel

Cosmic Heroes, where we got the rebooted Guardians

that everyone knows and loves now. And I've been

reading Guardians 3000 from the beginning. Originally

Guardians of the Galaxy was brought out around

the time of the original Star Trek ending. It

was, you know, it's in the future and these alien

lizard men have invented, invaded our galaxy

and taken over. So we've got, this is basically

a revamp of the classic Guardians lineup with

the Yondu and Charlie 27 and Martin X. And basically

these guys are all like, genetically re -engineered

humans that live on like Mercury and Saturn and

Alpha Centauri Prime and they're tying into Seeker

Wars in a way that they're in the future and

they've got this human character who can sense

shifts in the timeline and they're trying to

figure out why everything's going to crap and

they figure out that it all starts back in the

21st century so they come back in time which

is Something the classic Guardians back in the

70s did you know every other week. They're like

hey Thor hey onto Sort of thing so now they're

coming back in time and they're gonna tangle

with the Guardians We know from the movie like

Drax and rocket and Groot and all that so to

quote rocket raccoon, it's gonna be bug -flark

crazy and I just love Bat poop insane stuff like

this where you know the timelines already fractured

this could be potentially break it even further,

but they're kind of like, yeah, what the Groot.

So if you've been following either Guardian series

along and you're a fan of the Guardians, whether

from the comics or the movies, Guardians 3000,

I would definitely recommend checking the series

out and just go on a fun comic book ride. Right,

right. JT's next pick is Fantastic Four, number

645, James Robinson on writing, Leonard Kirk

on art and covers, and many more. The most controversial

Fantastic Four story concludes in an extra -size

special. Will the Fantastic Four defeat the Quiet

Man and the corrupted forces of the Heroes Reborn

universe? Will Johnny get his powers back? Will

Reed and Sue be a family again? Will this be

the end or will this be forever? 68 pages, 599.

Okay, go ahead this Now we don't know for certain

what's happening with the fantastic four past

secret wars They say that they're gonna be involved

in the Marvel Universe. They're more than likely

gonna have a comic at some point it's For me,

it's it's still kind of sad that this for whatever

whatever happens. This could potentially be the

last fantastic four comic for a while The Fantastic

Four has always been one of my favorite Marvel

comics. It's a team, but it's not 15 different

people the way the Avengers is. They've got quirky

powers, but they're not the X -Men. They're more

of a family than anything. That's an aspect of

the storyline. It's always endeared itself to

me. The storyline here that started when they

rebooted it again... with a new Fantastic Four

number one and then they went back to the classic

numbering and that's something that just kind

of peeves me right off because like why the hell

would you bother them? But the storyline in and

of itself is like and I've talked about Fantastic

Four I think a couple of previews back just in

this storyline like for the 15th time The negative

zone portal blows up the Baxter building and

all of a sudden the Avengers are there like You

can't go back inside read and then child protective

services shows up and takes away Franklin and

all the future Foundation kids and it turns out

there's this quiet this guy named the quiet man

Who's orchestrated all this trouble to basically

take his revenge on the fantastic four? Predicated

on the fact that he wanted to ask out Sue storm

He didn't get the spine up to ask her out until

about five seconds after she read went on their

first date So it's I'm really interested to see

like this guy's just sitting there. It's like

oh, you can't beat me Richards I've already won.

There's nothing you can do. Why do you even try

and it was like you? Clearly don't know who you're

harassing here It's Reed. God damn Richard. So

I can't wait to see the conclusion of this story.

I mean at this point Ben has been framed for

murdering the puppet master Johnny storms lost

his powers Sue's running the risk of turning

back into malice and You know, it's just will

the team come back together and be a family and

win the day again It's all coming to a head here.

So, you know, I can't wait to pick this up when

it comes out and I'm just gonna kind of sad be

a little sad when I do because It could be the

last Fantastic Four comic for ages. So, I mean

if you're a fan of the team Whether you're a

fan from the cartoons or the comics or the movies,

which really the first one isn't that bad. I

Would say pick it up Neither one of them that

bad we've had worse come on now but anyway yeah

King size Kirby is JT's last pick King size Kirby

Dinosaur number 1, and What If 1977 number 11.

This is 816 pages and it's $200. Okay now let

me ask you this because I've been wanting to

ask someone like you this question for a long

time. When they do something like this and they

combine all kinds of various different titles

and different issues. Do these make up one complete

story or is it just doing what it says, collecting

his work and not really telling a whole story?

It's telling little mini stories. No, this is

a collection of the King's work from over the

years. Jack Kirby, there's a reason they call

him the King of Comics because this dude is the

shit. I mean, he's worked in literally everything,

Western, romance, monster, comics, Captain America,

punching old Adolf right in the jaw, which is

honestly when they're doing that live show in

the first Avenger, I love the way Chris Evans,

who wants to help me suck old Adolf on the jaw?

And I was just like, God damn it, could you be

more perfect for this role? But no, I mean, this

is a celebration of one of the, if not the, Best

artist in the history of comics and I'm not saying

there haven't been some kick -ass artists I mean

top honestly top five artists would be Kirby,

Alex Ross Jim Lee Mark or sorry Mr. Grumit and

like Mark Bagley just off the top of my head

although not necessarily in that order and there's

something like you look at Kirby specifically

you know from I'm more of a fan of like Kirby

from the 60s you know the early Marvel stuff

and what he did with the fourth world and the

new gods at DC in the late 70s like that there

there is just this solid solidarity to his art

there is this implied this massive amount of

energy like just Captain America cocking back

his arm ready to let fly with the shield to the

Hulk, you know Stampeding through a brick wall

to get to the leader. There's just something

about his art that is Just generates this Fuck.

Yeah out of people never I read his art. I mean

I've never read his romance stuff. I probably

maybe give it a try then This thing this thing

is basically the size of a freaking pizza. I

mean, it's 11 and a half inches by 15 Yeah, this

is a coffee table book. Don't get me wrong and

it costs two hundred dollars and rightly so Yeah,

I mean, oh, yeah. No, I'm not When I said it

was eight hundred and something eight hundred

and sixteen pages and that's a two hundred dollar

price tag I wasn't saying that like I wasn't

saying it like to be snarky like about the 599

book, but it's like this is something big folks.

This is something that I'm not saying if you

buy this, you better be a fan of Kirby, although

that would help. And you better be comfortable

with dropping that much money all at once on

one thing. Now, not to sound like douchey or

anything, I have dropped that much money at one

time on comics, but generally it's about eight

inches or so, the stack. It's just kind of like...

But I would if I had the money, you know make

you stupid money because you look you got Captain

America you've got Essentially the fantastic

foreign the Thor comics in here. I believe is

like the inhuman saga from the 60s You've got

classic Avengers. You've got sergeant fury in

the harlan commandos. You've got you know classic

Captain America Some of the the original run

of what if is some of my favorite comics of all

time You've got devil dinosaur number one. It's

Who is incidentally my favorite side character

in agents of smash? I haven't got that far yet.

Oh I'm like on the first on the first episode

still wait wait I think it's like episode 16

of the first season is red Rover and it's essentially

all about red Hulk and devil okay, and it's it's

such a delight but Seriously, folks, if you've

got make you stupid money, you've got 200 bones

plus tax burning a hole in your pocket by this

thing. So. Absolutely. It's what else can I say?

I mean, there's been other great comics looking

over the solicits. I mean, right? Well, I still

have my choices, thank you very much. I know,

I'm just saying, it's just this, I think, April

versus March, there's more, it's just, there's

more, at least from my eyes, and we'll go over

Mike's here, it's just, my eyes, there is such

a wide spectrum of everything that's great about

comics, and specifically Marvel comics this month.

Right. I mean, between various issues of miniseries

and ongoing stuff, and they're all building towards

Secret Wars, like, Seriously, how can you not

love comic books? Alright from my picks. I'm

gonna go with the standards. We're gonna go to

the you know galaxy far far away Princess Leia

number three of five Mark wage is on writing

the Dodson's are on art and color and covers

and all that stuff Leia's mission leads to the

underground world of solace The Empire's forces

are on her trail and gaining join the galaxy's

toughest princess on a quest to save her people

Now I just read issue number two. I know I'm

a little bit behind I'm not sure if I want to

stick with this. I loved issue number one. Issue

number two is alright. But I'm not sure about...

I'm kind of glad this is a five -issue miniseries

and not an ongoing. Well, I mean, it's... I'm

not knocking, you know, Princess Leia or anything.

It's just, given the ADD tendencies of most comic

book fans nowadays, like... Fickle kind of describes

a lot of readers myself including some days I'm

not I'm not saying she consider what I'm saying

is she I don't Maybe they're just testing the

waters with this miniseries. Maybe they'll have

another layer miniseries. It's just You know,

it's I don't think she would sustain a very long

-lived ongoing No, no, no, I don't understand

that and I get that I'm just saying that when

I read issue 2 it was Don't know it was kind

of a slow read not necessarily saying I had I

couldn't understand every single word Wade was

saying I obviously could but it just I just felt

like Was somehow I got taken out of the story

and I don't know how that happens but Because

when I read Darth Vader number three because

like I said, I'm kind of behind on on my comic

reading But when I read Darth Vader number three,

it was like oh my god This story is moving so

well and so good, you know It's introducing new

characters and it's all this all and everything

else. Um, I'm not sure if I'm gonna stick with

Leia I might it's only five issues, but I Next

up for me is Darth Vader number four. Karen Gillian

is on writing, Salvador Larocca is on art. Covered

by Adi Granov. Variant cover by Salvatore Larocca.

Revenge of the Battle Droids. Vader returns to

Geonosis to build his army. The Dark Lord's Ascension

continues. I am loving the Darth Vader series.

It's been amazing. Have you read this stuff yet?

I've read the first issue. I haven't picked up

the... Following couples so you gotta oh man.

It's so like Do you care about spoilers You know

what I'm not The only spoilers I'm worried about

at this point is fast seven so tell your tale

sir Have you seen the cover to Darth Vader number

three? Yeah, I did Okay, so you saw the two just

so you've seen the two droids. Yeah It's basically

what if 3po and r2 were evil is pretty much what

it is and r2 r2 in r2 in in number 3 I shouldn't

say r2 but the the droid who is called he not

our looks Yeah, he looks like an astromech. He

has that that that aesthetic of an astromech,

but he's actually a blastomech so he's BT one

and The 3PO is OOO or triple O. O's. Yeah. And

as soon as BT1 awakens, he is a master assassin

droid. He's ready to kill everybody. But no,

I am so loving. the darth vader series i can't

recommend it enough folks go check it out absolutely

awesome my final picks are something we've grown

to love over here at the pull bag superior iron

man number seven and eight written by tom taylor

uh issue seven art is done by lara braga issue

eight's art is done by yildre sinar covers by

mike choy issue 7 wtd variant cover by tba um

while stark's wealth and influence is increasing

across the globe it can all still be undone by

the ultimate betrayal one of tony's closest friends

is working against him she can see what he is

becoming and is determined to prevent him from

slipping even further the superior iron man could

end at a hands of at the hands of pepper pots

And for issue number eight it says a phantom

from Tony's past is back to haunt him It's Iron

Man versus Iron Man, but who or what is in Tony's

old armor? Like I said folks in I think by the

time this comes out episode 104 will be out of

the podcast Like I said in episode 104 of the

pull bag for marvelous March here in April for

superior Iron Man I am loving this title. I wish

this title wouldn't be stopping So I can't wait

I really really can't wait No, it's like you

like you said when we did You know, we summed

up superior, you know one through five with Jeremy

there This is so good Yeah, I Mean those if you

haven't read definitely read issue six before

you get these folks so, you know where you're

at Yeah, it's absolutely like I still want to

know who Hornhead really is. Is it Jarvis? Is

it something else? And you know Pepper is only

doing this because she's worried about Tony and

rightly so. I mean, he's not evil. He's just...

No one should go to the douche side of the forest

this hard. You know, there's the light side,

there's the dark side, and there's stuff that

even Vader wouldn't consider. Come to the dark

side. We have cookies. Yeah. But the douche side

of the forest has cocktails. Alright folks, on

that note, we're going to get out of here. I'll

be back with some closing remarks and kind of

previewing what's coming up here in the poll

bag. Thank you to JT and we're going to take

a quick break. We'll be back after this. Alright
