About this Episode

TFG1Mike and Jeremy Fein dive into the Avengers & X-Men Axis event, covering issues 1-9 of the main series and the four-issue Axis Revolutions miniseries. They discuss the darker tone of the event, the introduction of Red Onslaught and Apocalypse as major threats, and debate the inclusion of characters like Deadpool and the varying art styles throughout the run. The conversation includes standout moments like Thor versus Apocalypse, Spider-Man and Carnage's clash, and various character inversions, while grappling with pacing issues and artistic inconsistencies across multiple art teams.

You've just jumped inside the Marvelous March

spectacular here on the pullback. This annual

spotlight on Marvel Comics characters will be

held every March. Well, this year we are a bit

late with the spotlight, but it fits in, because

we are gonna say at the end, may the 4th be with

you, as Ep 105 of the podcast will air on Star

Wars Day. For 2015, TFG1 Mike, JT from Saskatoon,

Hunnic Outcast. and Steve Megatron tackle all

new characters and storylines featuring Transformers

Classics, Avengers, and X -Men Access, Superior

Iron Man, and Star Wars comics as they have returned

to Marvel. It's an all new, all different Marvelous

March in its second year. It's all inside the

pullback here on the Geencast Radio Network and

now on with the show. Hello, folks, and welcome

to Marvelous March. This is the giant -sized

episode. This is going to contain episodes 102

and 103 here inside the pull bag. I'm, of course,

TFJRMike. Joining me is Jeremy Fine. Hello, sir.

Hello, and for all you listeners out there, I

am part German, and despite what you may think,

not all Germans are evil. Um... 95 % of them

are. Well, I'm the 5%, so... I'm German -Jewish,

so... I'm the good German. Wow. It's a good thing

you didn't... Never mind, I... I don't want to

get in trouble with the listeners. It's a good

thing. I was not gonna... But I was gonna say

I wasn't gonna get in trouble anyway for saying

it's a good thing you weren't living in 1944.

Family members that were smart enough and went

back and fought the Nazis. And speaking of which...

You know, this makes me happy because I didn't

know at the time that Magneto was Jewish and

he's a Polish Jew, I think. And when I was at

the Holocaust Museum back in 1993 in the gift

shop, there was a Magneto graphic novel. So folks

we are here inside marvelous March and as you

can tell we're gonna be talking about Avengers

and X -Men access For episode 102 later in this

podcast for episode 103. We're gonna talk about

Avengers and X -Men access revolutions We had

already covered access issue number one back

in when was that November? It was October of

2014 So Marvelous March kind of has a little

bit of a different feel as you can tell from

the first episode We released this month here

in March, but I wanted to kind of go All over

the map last year when we premiered Marvelous

March. We basically did classic Marvel characters

classic marvel stories like captain america man

out of time uh... whole planet whole old man

logan uh... will bring origin uh... and that

kind of thing uh... we did some classic spidey

stories as well uh... spidey will not be in this

marvelous march he will get his own month uh...

coming up here in september uh... so that's why

spidey won't be here in this marvelous march

but between the avengers the x -men superior

iron man star wars and transformers we have all

the marvel coverage you need this year and my

other focus was because last year when we premiered

it we talked about classic marvel stories i wanted

to kind of blend it to where it was the new current

marvel stuff and a little bit of classic plus

obviously the return of Star Wars to Marvel,

thanks to Disney buying Lucasfilm. What I find

so interesting about this is some of the Dark

Horse trade paperbacks, which now bear Marvel's

title, or Marvel's name on them, are now finally

in digital form. Hey, what isn't in digital form

nowadays? Anything that Dark Horse does. Well,

I'll keep Dark Horse for you. I mean, I don't

dislike the company whatsoever, but... It's one

of those things where... I just don't know why

they don't... Even if they came up with their

own digital division. Image Comics has their

own digital division. You know, Marvel Comics

has their own digital division. Hell, even DC

Comics has their own digital division, but...

It's just one of those things where I am not

buying physical comics anymore unless it's something

really really super special for me like IDW This

month released or will be releasing the gem in

the holograms box set where you can get all of

the covers in One box for $25 for the first issue

Now granted, it's five versions of the issue

one, but it's still all the special covers in

one box. You know, something like that, but I

don't know, I just kind of wish Dark Horse would

jump on the bandwagon and, you know, come into

the 21st century. Dark Horse has Hellboy, as

far as I know. You would think that they would

be pushing that. Yeah, you'd think. But for some

reason, it's like... And that's the only thing

that I'm behind with Dark Horse anymore is Hellboy

anything else But the less we talk about that

the better because that just yes irks me Yes,

so we are here as I said We're gonna be talking

about the Avengers and X -Men access event We're

gonna talk about it in issue like two or three

issue groups Give our opinions and move on as

that goes This pretty much stems out of Avengers

versus X -Men, which was the event a couple of

years ago, right? Yeah, it pretty much dealing

with you know Xavier's dead and everybody's pretty

much You know chickens with their heads cut off

and then of course you've got the red skull who's

become the red onslaught and he's kind of become

like this Hp Lovecraft desk demon and Eventually

will you know have apocalypse And, you know,

I don't know what this is, but there are times

it feels like I'm watching or, I guess, reading,

because they haven't done the motion comic yet.

It almost feels like Days of Future Past and

Age of Apocalypse in one. Yeah, yeah. It's just

crazy. Like, the first two issues of this series,

I really love them. Issue three happened Deadpool

came in and it just went It went too comedic

for me like don't get me wrong I know this is

a very very dark storyline bad shit is happening

in this story But bringing in Deadpool into the

mix just did not work for me whatsoever and what

it will and what? Yeah, I can't talk today folks

well We'll get into this, but it's just one of

those things where, honestly, after reading this,

I... I kind of wish I didn't. The only, and I'll

be upfront and honest, the only reason why I

thought I had to read this was because they were

starting the Superior Spider, or the Superior

Iron Man title. Now, I'm still not sure if Superior

Iron Man is going to be an ongoing, or if it's

going to be just a... one -to -five miniseries.

I tried tweeting Tom Taylor, the writer, and

he never responded to me, which, you know, that's

his prerogative, I mean, you know. But it's one

of those things where that was my main reason

for wanting to read this, to see how Iron Man

becomes what he eventually is in the Superior

Iron Man series. Next up, folks, we're going

to briefly recap issue one, and then we're going

to talk about issues two through five, and then

after that we'll talk six through nine. So we'll

be back after this. Your work on anti -electron

collisions is unparalleled. And I'm a huge fan

of the way you lose control and turn into an

enormous green rage monster. Alright folks, it

is time to talk about Avengers and X -Men issues

two through five, but first we have to briefly

recap and revisit issue number one, which kicked

off this whole series. Since when we originally

reviewed it was in November or October of last

year in 2014, I will post the link of that in

this episode post. Basically, the Red Skull has

explored the gifts of the world's greatest telepath

to broadcast pure hatred across the globe. Now,

born of the murder of Charles Xavier, World War

hate has begun. Tony Stark discovers a secret

truth that will upend not only his life, but

also the lives of everyone he cares for. Can

the Avengers and the X -Men finally unite? Would

their combined strength be enough to hold back

the darkness of the Red Onslaught? Magneto murdered

the wrong man, releasing the greatest evil the

Marvel universe has ever known. Now, Rogue and

Scarlet Witch are all that stand in its way.

I remember reading issue one, and I remember

really enjoying the way Reminder wrote it, and

it was the first thing from Rick Reminder that

I actually ever read. So I basically went in

with no expectations, whether it was going to

be good or bad. I'm kind of glad I never read

Avengers versus X -Men. I wouldn't even... Here's

the problem I have with Avengers versus X -Men.

I tried to read it. As I said, you're the DC

or Marvel, but the X -Men to me, there's one

or two characters I like and there's like six

others I don't like when it comes to X -Men.

Avengers, unless it's Avengers... You know in

the movie or Avengers assemble. I The problem

is is that it's almost like a dysfunctional family

I mean, I'm glad that we have Iron Man and Hulk

I mean, it's great when they're together and

they're you know Separated the villains aren't

that interesting especially with Iron Man, but

at the end of the day to see X -Men versus Avengers

I Felt it was just an excuse to sell more comic

books and and The only reason why I like Avengers

and X -Men Access is you're taking some old ideas

and recycling them, but you're making it a tad

more interesting. And as for Rick Morinder, yeah,

I liked his writing, but I wasn't too sold on

issue number one. I felt it was like a pilot

to the series, but I love Adam Cobert's artwork.

And that's what really sold me more was new artwork.

And again, it's going to sell me with the later

issues. But I felt that the writing was a little

bit more tighter with issue two. And three, when

we get there, we'll get there. But this one I

felt was a much stronger issue. Yeah. Issue two

was very much stronger than issue one. I mean,

you're right. Issue one is a pilot. It is to

kind of get people, I mean, it's the kickoff

to this event that they did as far as the main

story. And this event has had all, you know,

This access event is just like any other Marvel

or DC event. It has a million different tie -ins,

a million different spin -offs. We're actually

going to be talking about one of those spin -offs

a little bit later, or I should say tie -ins

a little bit later in this podcast, but issue

one, it was good. It was all right. It introduced

new readers to these characters and the situation,

which was fine for me. You're right. Issue two

does pick up. Think really what I like the most

out of these and this is a little silly but is

how they Is how they set up the the previously

on and and how they set up the title cards Where

they have the the access across the bottom and

above it It's themed to a desperate scene as

far as the story title and then it has all the

credits for everybody Love the art in this Adam

Kubert's art is amazing. Yeah, I mean this is

the kind of artwork that you want to download

and put up on your wall You know just remove

You know the captions remove the dialogue. There's

a lot of great artwork Especially with the facial

expressions with you know up close with Iron

Man. I I don't know if it's supposed to be a

character to Robert Downey Jr. Or not It kind

of looks like him at times Yeah, but I will say

this much I definitely like the new design of

the suit because I guess that's supposed to be

superior a man No, no, no, he hasn't gone superior

yet. I know he's about the black suit. Yeah the

black and gold Yeah, no, that's not superior

yet. It feels like it though a Little bit but

it isn't yet because that won't happen until

we get to the inversion part of the story right

when when everything flips on its ass and he

has the upgraded mark to looking armor when he

basically has the silk the all -silver armor

that's when he's pretty much become superior

iron man but yeah no I mean the suit here looks

great I love the whole and I am an iron man fan

more so from the films than anything else but

I just love his his whole story here in in in

this issue and in this series where basically

as issue two goes along we find out that in his

subconscious he somehow created these super sentinels

to help the red onslaught and just putting putting

putting the Nazi of the red skull in with Charles

Xavier's brain is just all kinds of wrong, but

it's an interesting mix in how the red onslaught

has become the red onslaught. I think issue two

really does things well with the characters.

I think as the series progresses though, it goes

downhill because it pretty much is willy -nilly

melee kind of thing. It's kind of like... The

story and don't get me wrong folks. I did enjoy

Rick Remender's writing here, but this is the

first time I've read this guy I haven't read

anything else he's done, so I can't really compare

it to anything But what I'm gonna compare this

to is he's pretty much once we get into like

issue 3 4 5 6 7 He's pretty much doing what a

little kid would do to a video game, and he's

button mashing everything together Some of it

makes sense some of it just doesn't matter Well,

he's also no age of apocalypse, which I read

and I was and I was a fan of age of apocalypse

Hence the why apocalypse will be back later in

the series Pretty much for me. This is more social

commentary on survival of the fittest. Hence

why we're gonna see apocalypse I was kind of

disappointed and I think we talked about this

with issue one where kid apocalypse was an issue

one and he was immediately killed it's been about

little to no sense of you know why the sun dies

and you know fathers and even bring up anything

about it just like oh well you know go back to

all the jungle um this seems to be i i understand

why they discuss nazism or fascism because it's

trying to decide who's going to be the last man

standing or who should be the perfect race. Should

it be humans or mutants? And in this case, now

we have cyborgs and we have robots. It's a cluster

of every type of thing you could throw in of

who's going to be left. And it's not bad social

commentary. And it's all about hope and, you

know... Guess Iron Man and Avengers feel like

well where the superheroes were gonna win, but

this time our leader is dead We don't know what

we're gonna do and everybody's trying to pick

a side and you know Some of the villains are

teaming with the humans again. This is something

I've been down the road so many times And they

do well for the first couple of issues, but you're

right We're gonna get to where they trip over

the finish line But I will bring up one thing

that I like though what they did with the Sentinels

Because yeah, that was cool. The Sentinels have

always been these giant purple robots that apparently

can Absorb mutant powers and kill them and they've

been known They're mostly known for killing Wolverine

You know the indestructible mutant they destroyed

and I think you know again He'll be killed and

you know this series as well. That's why we hardly

see him But the only problem that I have with

this there is a lot of talking and there is a

lot of trying to team up and I get all that and

you know there there is a part where they're

in a bunker and you know it's dark and everybody's

pretty much defeated I like that as well I like

the human moments because they don't know where

they're gonna go what they're gonna do next and

and one of my favorite close -ups as I said is

Tony Stark you know with Iron Man mask lifted

over his head and his eyes are closed and nobody

knows what the next point of attack is and this

is a guy and if again i haven't read them any

iron man comics i'm just familiar with robert

downey jr as iron man and for me he's a smart

alec he's the wise guy you know never give up

and then all of a sudden iron man 3 he has all

these panic attacks and it didn't work for me

here i think well right but see the I always

have to defend Iron Man 3 to people that always

complain about the panic attacks. The dude went

into space in nothing but a metal piece of body

-suited armor, and he fell from the sky. And

that's not going to just be, oh hey, well that

happened to me, let's move on. He's going to

have psychological issues from doing what he

did in Avengers. In the Avengers movie I should

say so I mean I understand why people don't like

it and that's fine But the guy has to change

at some point and they're moving him they in

the films they did they did Iron Man in a way

where Extremis was kind of in the films. It's

kind of ass backwards at least from what I've

read of The versions of extremist that I have

read and how it happens In Iron Man 3, it's pretty

much ass -backwards. He, you know, goes under

the knife, gets, you know, at the end of the

movie, gets, you know, his heart fixed. He doesn't

need the arc reactor in his chest anymore, blah,

blah, blah, blah, and supposedly he has Extremis,

some sort of form of Extremis as well. I prefer

the comic version of Extremis, where he gets

it, it cures him, and he has all these super

-intelligent abilities, like... Really, when

I'm... thinking here is uh... iron man armoured

adventures how he got extremists in that that

is what i like uh... i understand why you don't

like iron man 3 and that's fine uh... but it's

one of those things where you're right you know

this is you know tony is usually happy -go -lucky

but everybody breaks every now and then you know

well i like how they broke him Did like how they

broke him in Avengers and I did like parts of

how they broke him Iron Man 3 I like how they

break him in this though. I do because whether

He is or isn't gonna be the last man standing

I like the fact he's no longer You know hooking

AC DC into a suit and just like reeling into

battle I like the fact that he really doesn't

know what he's gonna do next with his armor because

in all honesty red onslaught has you know start

world war hate there are not that many friends

left and the ones that are left their powers

are pretty much dwindling because they don't

know how we'll go against red onslaught right

and i like that as well i mean we we see a lot

of these you know we see one of the sentinels

and as i said with the sentinels we we see them

wiping out a few of the marvel universe one by

one and We see how the remaining Marvel Universe

has to see their comrades die in battle and they

don't know what they're going to do next. I like

that. I love the close -up images. I especially

love, again, the close -up images with red onslaughts.

I think he's probably one of the most smarter

Marvel villains we could have in the 21st century.

All in all the dialogue is great. The speeches

do not wear itself out And I just love the moments

where you have a bunch of them in that bunker

not knowing what they're going to do next You

know, they're gonna they're gonna have you typical.

Well, we don't know what we're gonna do. Should

we give up? Well, there's always hope. Yeah,

they have those speeches But it doesn't stink

up the room Yeah, no With issue three when I

was making notes for this um... with issue three

i basically wrote down and entered deadpool let

the comedy run ragged bring deadpool into this

i think it was wrong i think he i get he is supposed

to be the comedy relief and all however it takes

away from the seriousness that the teams are

up against. Although the art is amazing here,

even though the art team has changed. And that's

really what will sometimes really get my goat

is when the art team changes because this is

Lennel Francis Yu on pencils and Jerry Alan Julian

as the anchor. I like issue 3 art, but it's not

as good as Adam Qbert was in issues 1 and 2.

And Qbert will eventually come back to the series.

Honestly, I think the only thing that this issue

does good for the art is how the women look,

honestly. That's pretty much it. Actually, I

like one of the images a close -up of the, I

guess the red onslaught, Sentinel. Because I

like where, you know, he's holding the flaming

jack -o -lantern in his hand. I like that close

-up. I love, yeah, you're right. Enchantress

looks great. And I also love the close -ups of

Red Onslaught again. I love seeing the front

of him, the back of him. He, you know, did a

good job with the artwork, especially with bringing

back Apocalypse. I like... How Apocalypse comes

back, he kind of looks a little bit like, um,

oh, Drax the Destroyer from Guardians of the

Galaxy. But, and I didn't recognize him at first,

and I was like, wait a second, who's this big

blue guy? It can't be, uh, Dr. Manhattan, because

that's DC. And then all of a sudden I started

to see the purple, you know, lips, and I was

like, oh, it is Apocalypse. But as for Deadpool

goes, yeah, you're right. He should not be in

this series. We don't need comedic relief, but...

Deadpool again, he's not in This issue that much

and when he is in there, he still kicks ass He

doesn't he doesn't annoy me see Deadpool Deadpool

to me. I don't know if he's supposed to be like

The Red Hood was to Silver Age before I became

Joker. I know Deadpool's origin And I get what

the point of Deadpool is, but I guess I figured,

well, you know, we have that Deadpool movie coming

up next year with Ryan Reynolds, we have the

comics, the game didn't do too well, but let's

see if we can still bring him back somehow and

what can we do? We put him in at least one issue.

So he didn't annoy me as much as a lot of people

were rolling their eyes saying, why do we need

Deadpool in this series? He still kicks ass at

the end of the day. He does, but it's still...

I don't know, it just... It took away from me

what the, like... It seems like once Deadpool

came in, it's like, remember his entire style

between the first two issues, the way he wrote

the characters completely changed, because you

have to now adapt to this new character and write

him the way that everybody wants to see him written.

That's gonna be a problem too, because everybody

is apparently a fanboy. This is fanfiction. But,

I will say this much though, I have to go back

to the images of Onslaught. I just love when

he's dwarfing Captain America. Again, I go back

to that image with the red sentinel. Love scene,

you know the rebirth of apocalypse I Just love

seeing the battle scenes with Deadpool, you know

going against saber -tooth and you know kid apocalypse

I It's mainly for this issue. I could just turn

off the dialogue and Look at the images and I'd

be satisfied and I would give it a sound five

just for the images alone That's just me And

there are just images where they're not talking.

They're just you know, there's just action I

think Stan Lee once said something where he had

his artist just like when he was working on spider

-man For the first few issues. He just had the

artist draw and Stan was able to just type, you

know, write the dialogue before, you know afterwards

Usually you write the dialogue before and then

the artist would draw it for Stan Lee and spider

-man It was the other way around. That's how

I feel with this one. I'm it's satisfactory And

the other thing I like about it is that now we

have We thought the big bad would be right on

slot, but now we have apocalypse and again If

you don't know apocalypse and you've been under

a rock for years and years and years I'll just

give you the short version of him he's technically

the first mutant and He has been tortured in

a way and I'm not gonna get into it because it's

gonna be too long to give the full version of

them but pretty much apocalypse feels that it's

all about survival of the fittest and he pretty

much is known for turning Xavier into one of

his horsemen of the apocalypse Xavier is now

gone so he has come back and now it's just gonna

be you know if this is gonna be the quote -unquote

apocalypse it makes sense for him to reemerge

it would be it was a shame because I was you

know to kind of see Deadpool was one of the horsemen,

which would have been awesome back then. But

I do like the fact how Deadpool is hugging Apocalypse.

It doesn't bother me, but I can almost see, like,

this is something that Josh Whedon would have

wanted. Basically, if you want a semi -decent

animated origin for Apocalypse, folks, go watch

Beyond Good and Evil 4 Potter from the X -Men

90s animated series. Yes. And I'll admit, pretty

much after issue three, I checked out of reading

this series as it was released. Before we recorded

this podcast, I hadn't read issues four through

nine. So this is, again, all fresh and new. When

we get into issue four here, I... Like to think

I know a lot about the different hulks and you

know, Bruce Banner and Grey Hulk and Green Hulk

and all this and all that but who the hell is

this Hulk's Hulk? Oh, you mean Quill? Oh, I can

explain that. Okay, you ready? Yeah. Okay. And

kids, once again, it'd be too long so I'm gonna

have to give you the short version. Right. Bruce

Banner, after he became Hulk... went through

so many different incarnations. First he was

the Grey Hulk because of the gamma radiation,

but then because of color issues, he was green.

And then the Red Hulk, as we all know, the Red

Hulk, I think, was a Thunderbolt Ross, because

I think, yeah, Thunderbolt Ross is the one who

got some of the DNA and he became Ralk. And then,

of course, we had She -Hulk, and then we had

Red She -Hulk, so we had Roshulk. And then of

course we had a Hulk where Bruce Banner was beast

So he was below where you know, he was beast

Hulk where he could talk like Bruce Banner But

he was in Hulk's body if that made any sense

Then of course we've had something very but but

as for Chloe which is Hulk spelled backwards

to hypothesis Stanley once said in the 60s before

he created Hulk, that he was running out of ideas.

So he would just come up with sounds, and that's

how we got Feng Feng Foom, the dragon, and that's

how we also got Hulk. So Hulk is, you know, Chloe

is Hulk spelled backwards, but I think that Chloe

is supposed to be negative Hulk. It's Hulk made

up of pure negative energy where with all the

other Hulks with the exception of Rulk because

that's Thunderbolt Ross In a roundabout way you

can kind of reason with Hulk, but with Chloe

This would be you know I get I guess kind of

like the bizarro, but this this is pretty okay.

Yeah Okay, I got you uh... issue four starts

the inversion part of the storyline so this is

inversion chapter one altered beast uh... we

have uh... captain falcon here captain america

falcon looking whatever i don't like sam wilson

as captain america it's just I like him as the

Falcon and I think that's just enough. I don't

like him as Cap. Yeah, wrong. Captain America

was shot, I know. Got Carnage in this issue,

so that's not too bad. Yeah, it's got carnage

in the you know I remember actually did I No,

I did read I did read this issue when it first

come out. I'm sorry folks I didn't stop at issue

for I I did give this one more shot the only

reason why I remember that I had read this is

because I had only gotten like the fifth or sixth

page where it shows where carnage should come

in and basically save the day and Spidey shows

up in the criminals like dude he left you a note

your friendly neighborhood carnage i remember

screen capping that because spidey's like spidey's

like now that is really disturbing almost bordering

on copyright infringement Again, I wish this

was a meme. This is something else you would

like to have on your wall Carnage to me has gotten

better over the years I love the design on car.

I kind of go back and read the original, you

know issue of carnage. I have it on my You know

come out the comics ology But there's not enough

of him. Unfortunately, I mean he's only in for

like a few panels. It's a cameo Right. Yeah Well,

he shows up later in this issue. He's only in

for a few panels, but he does show up. Yeah Yeah,

I know that but I just wish he was a little bit

more in the issue But I don't as much really

like the designs last issue. I don't like them

too much in Tony Stark I don't know what it is

I understand. He's not a character a Robert Downey

jr. As he was an issue too This time around the

close -ups that he I don't know if he looks more

like Affleck Or if that's just supposed to you

know, what could have been I'm not too sure He

just doesn't work for me in this one, right?

Right Um, yeah, I I don't know I it's the thing

I love this this new Iron Man this setting up

of the extremis app and you know this whole super

secret of what it's really supposed to do i think

it's interesting and kind of awesome that he

shows up at giant stadium of all places well

he is iron man he can go wherever he wants to

go true and it's one of the things that i've

noticed in the marvel universe i like seeing

these heroes outside of new york city don't get

me wrong New York City is a great town for Marvel's

superheroes, but every single faction of Marvel

lives in New York. You got Daredevil, Tony Stark,

the Avengers, the X -Men, Spider -Man, Punisher.

Pretty much everybody in the Marvel Universe

pretty much lives in New York, so when Tony goes

to San Francisco, I thought that was great. You

know, it's putting him into a new city. It was

kind of like when The new the current Punisher

series went took him from New York and put him

in LA, you know So I'm really super stoked to

talk about superior Iron Man next week here inside

the pull bag. So But yeah, so we have the superior

Iron Man stuff or the Iron Man stuff going on

here And then we get back to the mutants and

havoc and nightcrawler and storm and colossus

and rogue and all this and all that And we see

apocalypse finally In his usual lake where we

would normal normally recognize him I do not

I do not like the design on this apocalypse This

looks like if you went into a five and dime store,

and you got one of those 80 soap figures That's

what he looks like. I'm sorry, he sucks in this.

Well, he's got the giant A on his belt like he

always usually does. His face is somewhat the

same as what we've seen before. I think he's

just a little bit too much of a light bluish

white. Like if he was a little bit darker blue

in his suit, it would be fine. Um, I know what

they're trying to go with it's a little gritty

I get that I'm just not impressed with But of

course, you know, he has his famous catchphrase

survival the fittest which is great And we got

storm and we got havoc, you know as usual But

the designs and the characters in this No, I

mean, anything past it, not really impressing

me too much, but what it lacks... Here, it's

interesting. It's been flipped. Where it lacks

in designs, it makes up for in the dialogue.

I like the design of Hulk, in a way. I don't

know what it is, but his, you know, short haircut,

he's got kind of like the pixie cut. But then

we have Klo, as I've discussed. Klo looks like

Abomination, with the mohawk. Yeah, but I do

like the face though. He looks like a mutated

ape. Um So basically what you're saying is the

bombination and gorilla garage got together and

had a baby. Yeah, that's the best way to describe

it Isn't there like a mutant that that has like

molten on his back I could have sworn like magma

or something You might be thinking of magma from

Batman Beyond. Yeah, I that's what it looks like

but He is definitely the thing of nightmare juice.

I will say this much. Um But again you you have

The problem is you have a bunch of interesting

villains an interesting idea and just when it

gets good We go back to you know continue next

time. Yeah, I mean they do fight off Chloe the

best that they can and by they I know we got

Thor we got Scarlet Witch and I guess this Captain

America Well, you know, Captain America we don't

like. Oh, yeah. Captain Falcon, yeah. Falcon,

yeah. And of course, just like Abomination, like,

give me a real fight. Chloe was pretty much saying

the same thing, you know. Try harder. It's not

a bad battle. I like the, you know, the purples

when they're fighting. And starting by that I

mean Scarlet Witch when she's fighting and we

have, you know, there's some good lighting effects

in a way. Um, so I do live those panels I would

say the last five pages Yeah, the last three

pages and panels of Chloe and finding out that

red skull has escaped Yeah, it's it's it's adequate.

It's it's not the best issue, but it's you know

issue four is good. It's definitely readable

It's better than issue three as far as the writing

goes yeah at least for me Terry Dodson for art

For issue five you mean yeah Yeah, I Like this

is one of those things where if you're gonna

do an event and this isn't just for like I know

all comic companies don't stick with one artist

on every single issue for an event but like I

wish it's it's just wish that they would have

stuck with one person or you know one one art

team instead of constantly changing it up and

this issue for issue five this will be the final

part of part one here for uh... avengers and

x -men access take a break after we do this issue

uh... is basically spider -man and nova and spidey

is the old guard and nova is the young sidekick

and it's like wow seriously but again we talked

about deadpool being comic relief and i think

we all know who spider -man really is um do you

find that his comic relief is taking anything

out of the issue at all or not i didn't i didn't

know because he's not antagonizing characters

he's trying to teach nova a lesson there's a

difference deadpool is always at least from what

i've seen He's always antagonizing everyone that's

around him whether it be for good or bad And

it's just one of those things where I don't dislike

the character I'm kind of interested to see what

Reynolds does with him in the in the new movie

next year whenever it's supposed to come out

but Deadpool has been never a character that

I really Got into I was more of a Deadshot fan

from DC obviously So maybe hopefully I maybe

I should go back and read some Deadpool comics

and really get get You know some some knowledge

for Deadpool as far as I just I just think Deadpool

is not a proper fit For the the situation that's

going on in this event. That's really the thing

in spider -man He is an Avenger or he was And

obviously, this is Peter Parker's Spider -Man.

This is not Doc Ock's Spider -Man. Because if

it was Doc Ock's Spider -Man, he would have just

backhanded Nova and said, shut up, boy, and listen.

Well, we all miss Peter Parker's Spider -Man,

I think. Well, not really. He is back. I mean,

they did bring him back after the release of

that second movie, so... But no, I don't think

the inclusion here of Spidey and Nova takes away

from the story. It actually adds to the story.

Because everybody, this is the issue where everyone

gets the effects of the inversion of the spell

that had happened at wherever the hell it was.

Yeah, I will say this much right now. Again,

love the dialogue. I hate all the artwork. I

hate every ounce of the artwork. And this is

by, of course, Terry Dodson. I don't like his

design of Chloe. This is when he definitely looks

like a mutated ape. I don't like his design of

Scarlet Witch. I definitely don't like the design

of Apocalypse, which is nothing new. I don't

like the design of Captain Falcon. I don't even

like... when we get towards the end of the fighting

sequences they just look like something at the

back of a toy box or if you open up an action

figure you get that bonus comic book that's what

it felt like with Terry Dodson I was not impressed

with the artwork at all the dialogue it goes

from place to place yeah we got Spidey and Nova

which is awesome I think it's probably the best

interaction we have that you know Spidey is the

teacher which is great We wanted kind of like

an adult Spider -Man anyway, even though he keeps

going back and forth for so many reasons. Which

is, you know, Marvel. Couldn't confuse you anymore

if you tried. Continuity? What continuity? The

pastel that... This one I really didn't bother

taking too many notes or paying too much attention

to. The artwork to me just distracted me so much

where I was like, this feels like... you know

even in the back of a cereal box and there's

even a point where we have um apocalypse just

like grabbing just you know choking and and the

blood and and the noises like quop and fap i

mean this almost feels like and i love batman

66 this this felt like i'm sorry but this This

doesn't know where it wants to go or where it

wants to be, and even closed dialogue feels like

abomination from Incredible Hulk's dialogue.

This one was just a gigantic mess. I like certain

aspects of the artwork. I'm gonna have to disagree

with you on Scarlet, which I think she looks

great. She looks more of a scarlet red, like

a maroonish red than just... a regular old fire

engine red, which is normally what I see her

in. I will say that Spidey looks great out of

all of them. You know, it's basically your classic

Spidey suit. That does look cool. But yeah, you're

right. Backwards Hulk and Apocalypse and all

that stuff just... And again, I have to say,

and I know I need to get over this, folks, but

I want more of the Iron Man story in this. I

wanna see what's going on with Tony, and I know

we will, but it's one of those things where it's

like, God, hurry up and get to it already. If

I could pick one issue so far that we discussed,

the one I like the least has to be this one.

For me, it's issue three. I'm sorry, Deadpool

just ruins it for me. We're gonna take a quick

break, come back with issue... 6 to 9 or did

we already? Yeah, we're gonna come back with

issues 6 to 9 After this you might have missed

a couple things, you know Doing time is a capsicle.

Alright folks. We are back in here. We're gonna

talk about issues 6 to 9 of Marvel's Avengers

and x -men access This is book 2 in version And

on the art again, we have Terry Dodson, and Rachel

Dodson is the inker, which I assume they're husband

and wife. They have to be. And honey, could you

get me a job inking this, please, sir? Sure,

sweetheart, no problem. And you know what? They

both fail together. If you thought I hated Terry

Dodson in issue five, but I will say this much.

We talked about how the design of the women in

this, I do like one panel design of Mystique

when she fights Sabretooth and when she's fighting

a Chantress. I mean, it's really hard to screw

up Mystique, but at the end of the day, I do

not like Dodson. He... If, again, and I'll say

this a million times and a million times more

and I'm done, if I need somebody to... Do an

80s comic for an action figure where you open

it up and you get that bonus eight page comic

Dodson's you guy if you want to look at the back

of a cereal box and you know for cereal Dodson's

you guy he should not be touching This comic

and this is what turned me off again. I do not

like this guy Sam. I am I will say about their

art that When I first saw Loki in this, I'm like...

Why is he dressing in drag? I was like, yeah,

it's Loki! Loki looks like... of... like... He...

I don't know, he... He doesn't have the land

of the lost horns. He kind of has like this Wonder

Woman symbol on his... head. And his face, he

is the worst baby face of the Marvel Universe

is what they've drawn him to look like. Like,

I mean, don't get me wrong, Tom Hiddleston is

Loki in the Thor movies and in Avengers. I mean,

don't get me wrong, Tom Hiddleston is a baby

face, but there is some, you know, hard lines

to his baby face. This guy in here Looks like

something out of you know swan, you know fourth

grade swan lake or something It just it looks

horrible and Thor Thor looks like Basically Conan

and He -Man had a baby and you have a blonde

Hercules with long dreads. No, you know who this

is. This is Justice League Unlimited Aquaman.

That's who this is If only, if only Thor's hand

was cut off and replaced with a hook. Oh, wow.

If only a lot of things, but this issue again,

there's some great battles, I guess. I mean,

if you can get past the crappy artwork. You know,

saber, oh god, saber tooth. No, just no, no,

no, no, no. and chances looks okay at times when

she's you know close up not far away daredevil

looks like action figure daredevil well see i

love the daredevil thing because it's again it

it's going back to tony's story and we see him

in his new stark tower in san francisco and we

see the what will become the superior iron man

armor which basically looks like a original mark

two War machine armor But when daredevil showed

up I was like, wow That's kind of awesome. That's

pretty much classic daredevil and it For what

little scene that daredevil is in here. It's

kind of awesome No, I mean, I like daredevil

though. I just don't like the design of him in

this at least, you know It reminds me of Ben

Affleck movie Daredevil, and I like that suit.

I know everyone in the world hates the Ben Affleck

Daredevil suit, but that's what it reminds me

of, and that's why I like it. No, I'm okay with

that suit. I'm even okay with that movie. I just

don't like the designs. And even Tony in times...

I don't know. He doesn't... I'm not feeling Tony

Stark in this. He doesn't look like, you know,

issue two Tony Stark. And... The battle between

these two is awesome. It's not enough. I wish

it was more. It's probably the best part of the

issue. But we don't... Especially Tony just throwing

Daredevil off the balcony. I love that. Yeah,

that is awesome. I will say, looking back here,

panel by panel with ComiXology .com's guided

-view technology... when we first see daredevils

show up and it's tony saying uh... speaking of

buzzkill, Matt or not Matt or daredevil or whatever

you want to go by open -minded kinda party uh...

tony looks like something that would be a really

cheesy drawing out of a sunday comic that no

one wants to read and then as as the panels go

by and we have these far away shots of him he

just looks like crap like the one panel where

he says why 12 steps when this one step is is

much easier so much more you know and daredevil

knocks the glass out of his hand so it goes from

tony's arm where he's pointing the glass of champagne

or whatever he's drinking at daredevil his arm

looks very sleek very it basically looks like

you know a very slick drawing of a human arm

and then we get to the next panel and it looks

like something that you know a rugged, you know,

Sunday comic would look like. It looks like a

sketch more than a thing, and I know it's a perspective

kind of thing, but it just, you're right, he

looks all wrong here. You know, there's the,

again, the panel where he's saying, sorry, Karl

Marx, but that's how capitalism works, and his

eyes are closing, he's smiling. He almost looks

like the Mandarin, for some reason. A little

bit, yeah. And I don't know if that's supposed

to be the commentary when he starts talking about

capitalism, if he's supposed to, you know, but...

Whatever the case may be I do not like the backup

designs up close designs The battle is interesting

if they would just work better on the artwork

and even when Tony is battling daredevil I'm

sorry, but I just can't believe that Tony without

the suit is able to just knee Daredevil in the

breadbasket and then pick him up by the neck

and throw him off the roof I mean daredevil as

far as I know and I don't haven't read too much

daredevil but I thought that he was able to use

his other senses. Are they supposed to be heightened?

Yeah, he is. And he's also supposed to be trained

by several martial artists. So I mean, he's supposed

to be like, you know, Batman in a way. Right.

He is a little bit, but the thing is, is this

is... This is inverted Tony. This is Tony the

way he used to be this is drunk Tony when you're

drunk on You know alcohol and you have high adrenaline.

That's the only way I can explain it It probably

isn't a good explanation and folks listen You

know if you listen to this podcast, please comment

on the episode and let us know if this is right

or not but i'd i'd assume because all the alcohol

is probably consumed that he has a heightened

sense of adrenaline for tony and you're right

he normally shouldn't be able to take matt murdoch

without the suit but the thing is the suit was

there several times so it was almost like you

know it was basically a two -on -one fight yeah

and then you're right he does he does throw him

off the roof and that's kind of the only thing

I can think of is that it's kind of like Iron

Man 2 or 3 where he's using the suit as a distraction

where it's right one of its own and Jarvis is

there and if Jarvis is there but we don't even

hear Jarvis or see Jarvis so Jarvis has disappeared

from the face of the earth yeah so I'm not too

sure what the whole point of this is. And as

for alcohol, no, it would not give you an adrenaline

rush. He would have to be on something else,

but whatever the case may be, I understand what

they're trying to show Tony becoming, that he

is trying to become a bigger threat, but... Last

thing I'm gonna say though, it's an interesting

shot to see him pick up Daredevil by the neck

and throw him off the balcony, but at the end

of the day, It's just not designed or blocked

that well. It is the best, worst part of this

issue, if that makes any sense. I just have to

go back to pro's interesting idea, cons. It's

way too short and I just don't like the artwork.

And as for anything else that we have, like,

you know, doom and what is it? Letervia? I keep

forgetting. Let. Let. Letveria. Yeah. Letveria.

I know the history with Letveria. I know there

is a Marvel map and they've shown it and I know

the history about it and why doom is part of

it and Doom has never been my favorite villain

for several reasons The only reason you know

and the movies haven't helped them either But

I will say this much for our score at which to

come in. I'm kind of curious. Is she going to

take over but Again It's just doom and scarlet

witch and that's fine and then all of a sudden

we get Thor gambling a casino But again, is this

supposed to be Chris Hemsworth's Thor? No, it's

not not in any way because Because I thought

it's kind of like with the movie where he drinks

coffee and he loves it He throws it down because

he feels he's an Asgard. I thought that when

he's gambling he's he feels like he's an Asgard

again Yeah, that could be but I don't think this

is the crimest Chris Helmsworth Thorne or Thor

Thor Thorne. Yeah, right. I Do love the ending

to this though where they say you know Where

they basically say that they're assembling a

whole new team and that all all of this because

of the inversion the villains are now good guys

and And the bad guys are bad guy, you know The

good guys are bad guys. It's World Wrestling

Federation, you know Yeah, we're gonna we're

gonna become good guys to help sell t -shirts.

That's pretty much all it is This is an excuse

at this point is to sell action figures and I

understand that because You're a spinoff comics

or trying to do something else and do one -shots.

I mean It works for something like Harley Quinn

I don't know if it's gonna work for saber tooth

and I don't know if it's gonna work for Dr. Doom

Deadpool we know it works I will give, but...

Clow? No, I don't want to see a Clow comic at

this point. No, but not at all. Issue seven starts

off in the line. We have Adam Qbert back. Thank

God. This is New World Disorder Chapter One.

Then we start with Wasp and Havoc. Wasp, Havoc,

and Cyclops. I gotta say, I am so used to the

90s Cyclops and the yellow visor and the blue

spandex and all that. I think this version of

Cyclops's uniform looks cool, but I just prefer

the other one, honestly. I am okay. with Cyclops'

suit, but then again, I was never a fan of Cyclops,

and any version of X -Men. And not even, you

know, dare I say it, Emolution. You know, that

joke. But I will say this much, I love Nightcrawler.

I do love the panel where we have gigantic battles

with Avengers and, you know, we got Carnage in

the mix. We've got Storm with the Mohawk as usual,

and, you know, we've got Rogue. We haven't seen

her in a while. We got Colossus. We got Nightcrawler.

And in the way little bit of the battle, we've

got Apocalypse just sitting there like Emperor

Palpatine. Yeah, pretty much. Spider -man has

never looked better. Thank you. Mr. Q bird and

Apocalypse looks really really badass. Actually,

they all look badass including nightcrawler.

I mean even You know backed up up close. I love

how nightcrawler looks. He kind of looks like

Nightwing in a way but I have to say Q bird welcome

back old friend and of course even Sabretooth

looks good and and we got Scorch Witch because

the whole thing with her is that it's partially

her story and it's the same one and I just love

the use of the purples for her. Her hands and

the panels I mean there is a panel where it's

split down the middle where she's talking and

it's like one two three four panels and then

in the middle her arms are extending It's definitely

better use of the panels on this one. Oh, absolutely.

The whole effect on that page with her is great.

Because the middle effect of actually showing

her whole body is it's pretty much her whole

body's in shadow except for like up around her

neck and obviously her face and all that stuff.

It's just so great. And the story here... Don't

know as I said folks this story pretty much goes

downhill for me as I continue to read it It's

kind of like when is it going to end? Oh Wait

a second. We almost forgot one other thing What's

that is now cloaked in white? I don't know if

he's supposed to be you know What is it Spring

Hill Jack? From free, you know, can't candle

Jack from from Freakazoid. That's really Scream.

Yeah, he comes in, you know, here's the thing

though I'm okay with this when he tries to sing

that song everybody try and love one another

right now and of course This is where apocalypse

comes in and beats the shit out of him And then

of course we see apocalypse beat the ship shit

at a Deadpool later in the series Um, I will

say this much though Deadpool in issue three

didn't bother me. I didn't recognize Deadpool

for a few minutes I was like, why is he white?

Why is he wearing the cloak? But I love the interaction

between him and apocalypse for some reason it's

like Deadpool will just not back down now Deadpool

again, we know about his healing powers He's

not a moral, but he's got healing powers, but

there's just something about Apocalypse upfront

in this, up close and upfront, and him just getting

madder and madder, and Apocalypse just, you know,

he knows he's not gonna win physically, and he's

just trying to be Deadpool. And I love how, you

know, Apocalypse has grabbed Deadpool by the

neck and he's saying like, I am the true spirit

of E, Shabbat, Noor, and you see like a beaten

and battered Deadpool going like, dude, no one

ever liked him, but everybody loves Evan. You

know, it's like he's trying to explain to him

hope and Apocalypse is just looking at him like

he could care less and then he's just like grabbing

Deadpool's neck tighter and tighter and tighter

uses laser vision just like eradicate him But

again Deadpool can just heal himself, but I just

love Yeah, and then eventually, you know apocalypse

goes all sub -zero when rips Deadpool's, you

know head from his spine But I have to say it

is one of the best I don't know if Deadpool can

heal himself from that. I don't really know if

he's ever been decapitated before. I have to

go back and read the comics for Deadpool, but

I will say this much. It's much better imagery,

and it really shows how you just can't defeat

Apocalypse that easily the way that Leech did

in Emolution. The only complaint I really have

with this story is, again, Who's trying to do

what and why because you have this subplot with

scarlet witch you have a battle between I guess

You know the new world order which of course

is apocalypse and his team Which pretty much

consists if I understand this correctly we've

got storm and then I guess we got Thor and We

have havoc of course and Colossus and nightcrawler

and rogue which is weird But Claw is there I

still I don't know there was like one time. I

liked him. I don't design anymore in this Yeah,

it's it's just I wish he would change back already

But I know that's not gonna happen until the

final issue until they figure out a way to get

everybody flipped back the way They're supposed

to be With issue seven it is new world disorder

chapter two once again the art changes this time

it's Lenil Francis you as the pencil or Jerry

Alan Gillian and Jason Paz and little Francis

you as on Incas Once again, I gotta say, I understand

why they did this. It was a slight change in

the story because it starts out with Spider -Man

and Carnage. I like the whole Spider -Man and

Carnage bit. I think that looks amazing in the

art. The story is great, but I just wish they

would stick with one artist team. You know what?

I'm going to give credit where credit is due.

I like the artwork in this. I love the battle

between Carnage and Spider -Man. The only thing

that I have to say, though, And I'll go back

again because I got to go and reread it. Yeah,

I did like what they did with him in the 90s

cartoon. But if you really want to see the original

battle, it consisted of Fantastic Four, Venom,

Iron Man, Spider -Man. I mean, about six, seven

people had to go against Carnage. The fact that

Spider -Man, I don't know what it's like after

that. And I think you did review Superior Carnage.

So I got to go back and listen to that episode.

I don't know what the battles are like after

the very first one with Spidey and Carnage, but

I wish there was a little more. It was nice to

have a battle between these two, but it ended

way too quickly. And again, speaking of what

I want to put on my wall, I love seeing Carnage,

like in cases on blood webbing and looking zombified.

um it ended way too soon but i did like the image

of apocalypse and i love the fact that thor is

definitely trying to take apocalypse down and

apocalypse is in pain i mean the way that thor

takes his axe to apocalypse up a right thigh

and apocalypse is in pain which is something

else we don't normally see him do And then of

course breaking apocalypse. I mean the fight

between apocalypse and Thor was just amazing

but it ended way too soon again It ended way

too soon and I think that I think this series

shouldn't have been nine issues I think they

should have found a way if even if they had to

make this double issues. I know that would have

increased the price each comic but if they made

this a six issue miniseries or even a five issue

miniseries and figure out a way to get the story

and that many issues instead of nine it would

have been better for it because there's again

at this point we're at issue eight here and There's

so much going on We couldn't tell you all of

it even if we try to but I will say this much

You definitely have to Pick up this issue for

the apocalypse Thor fight alone. Even if you

don't read the other issues of this series This

is probably the most interesting battle I don't

know if they've ever here's the problem because

just like there's like 75 years of DC There's

got to be 75 years of Marvel if I'm not too mistaken

And I don't know if these two have ever fought

before If they have not, and this is the first

time, Bravo, I just love the fact that Apocalypse

is pretty much broken down to a molten rock of

a man. I mean, that's what it looks like. His

helmet has been broken off, his purple lips,

he's fading to gray. Pretty much a gray mass

of nothing, and somehow... It looks like have

it comes out of nowhere and saves apocalypse

It's just weird and to me. This is coming out

of the world soon Federation, which is stupid

It's like you want the good guy to win and then

all of a sudden the referee His head is distracted

for a tenth of a second. The audience knows what's

going around Somebody comes in takes a chair

outside interference matches over and everybody's

pissed But I will say this again love the close

-ups of Thor. I think he looks like a much older

Thor, but a better looking Thor and Call even

looks okay. I even like rogue in this rogue looks

a little bit younger for some reason But again

some great fights between Apocalypse or you know

beaten the apocalypse and some really weird images

of scarlet witch Oh no, that's not weird. That's

amazing right there. If you're talking about

the portal page right after the battle. Yeah.

Where she has her porno pose like kind of thing.

Yeah. That's awesome right there. You've got

her, you've got Captain Falcon, and you've got

Dr. Doom, and you've got Iceman in the background.

Yeah, I mean, I'm okay with that. It's just,

you know, weird, but... Nothing terrible and

of course we got some more great close -ups and

battles and everything condensed and then of

course again Scarra which was always the most

interesting underrated characters How she's just

trying to fight with her inner demons Which is

also I mean, I mean I love her anguish panel

in this she looks more human than anything I

feel and That's what I love about even doom looks

good in this everybody pretty much looks good

and we get to to kinda close off issue eight

here we get to the final panel and it's a gray

skull with an old ass cap and steve rogers in

a in what looks like some sort of iron man armor

suit and this is not iron patriot folks this

is the captain america armor uh... in gray skull

that was kinda awesome and no it's not the castle

folks I thought it was Whiteskull, I thought

that's what he was called. Well, I'm saying if

you're looking at this picture, he looks like

he's turned gray. Oh yeah, it definitely for

some reason is like Luke and Vader for some reason,

but I love the imagery of Whiteskull and Steve

Rogers. No, it's not Iron Patriot, I know, but

I just love the close -up of An old beaten Steve

Rogers going like I cannot guarantee your safety.

Um Issue eight made a nice little comeback Mmm

And issue nine we come to a grinding halt because

it starts with a Wolverine saber -toothed flashback

and Wolverine I love like but the cast of heroes

of villains. He's been X'd out Pardon the pun.

Bum bum bum. Um Yeah, let's see. We got Jim How

do I pronounce it? Jim Chiang? Yeah. Yeah. Um,

great artwork again. We've got, you know, Grinding

Halt. We've got, you know, Wolverine's Saber

Tooth. Probably the best imagery, I feel, of

Saber Tooth. Yeah. In the entire series, this

is the best that he's ever looked. Absolutely.

And... Absolutely. So we... We start out with

the battle with Old Cap and White Skull against

Captain Falcon and all this and all that. Superior

Iron Man shows up with Kulth and basically ruins

everybody's day. Rogue shows up, tries to save

the day. And this whole storyline is pretty much,

when you boil it down folks, it's basically humans

versus mutants. It is, but then again, so was

the Age of Apocalypse, that's a thing. Yeah,

and that's what I'm saying. This is... I don't

want to take away from the work that this creative

team and these creators have put into this. I

just think this is a poor man's, you know...

This is basically a Kmart version of Age of Apocalypse.

Well, yes and no, but I will say one thing, though.

I do like one thing about this issue and I love

the panel Apocalypse is defeated and I love the

dialogue because End quote lost an anthem the

suffering of my people gone my x -men overpowered

our future our Prosperity all lost and then of

course we hear someone off and this is going

not if you flip the script Evan now We've never

seen apocalypse at least as far as I know I have

never seen him this defeated in my entire life.

I don't know... I have to go back, you know,

last year I was supposed to record Age of Apocalypse.

I didn't. It was just too huge. And I wanted

to give it justice. But I do not recall him ever

begging, pleading, whining, crying, anything.

The fact that Deadpool, apparently, his head

is still alive, again, going back to the healing

powers, he... is doing his best to talk some

sense into Apocalypse. It is some, and I love

how Apocalypse calls Deadpool Wade. They're starting

to become human, or at least, you know, it feels

something out of the World Wrestling Federation

more, like, you know, you can become a good guy

if you want to. But it's interesting. I do like,

you know, Deadpool doing his best to say what

you were back in ancient Egypt. how you were

beloved, how you can change, how, you know, I'm

sorry that you and your father were placed in

that pyramid to be starved to death, and, you

know, it doesn't have to be Survival of the Fittest.

And Apocalypse is holding Deadpool's head, and

screaming, saying no, and he's about to say,

you know, you're a sniveling infant, or, you

know, Evan was a sniveling infant. Again. Go

back and read the comic he was not and before

I became apocalypse and Deadpool saying the same

thing so I do love those pages and panels between

a defeated apocalypse and You know the head of

Deadpool Right absolutely What's again what's

interesting to me is and What's interesting to

me at the end of all of this Tony refuses to

go back? Because and Tony has a good reason though.

It's not just because oh, hey, I'm the old Tony

Stark now I just want to go part. No, it's because

and he says this He's not he can he will not

be able to live with himself from what he has

done So he needs to stay the inverted way And

I like that. I like that explanation. I think

that's great. I mean, it's gonna be interesting

to see what happens in superior iron man i am

super stoked for that series i have any i have

i've been buying the books and i've been i've

been again it's one of those things where i said

the beginning of this podcast i don't buy a lot

of print comics anymore but i wanted to buy superior

iron man and i have and i've just put the digital

codes on on the marvel app which i have connected

to my comics ology so but i cannot wait to read

that series to see What interesting stories a

screwed up iron man is going to give us because

it's been a while I think since we've had a screwed

up iron man In the comics anyway, I I will be

going back at some point folks and reading the

the 2012 iron man series the What I assume is

still the ongoing iron man the main iron man

series but man that I'll say they ended it on

a really decent note, but the The whole middle

section of this story, it was bits and pieces

for me. It was good in some places, it was okay

in others, and in other places it was just god

-awful and it was like, hurry up and be over

already. But I will say the ending was pretty

damn good. It's a satisfactory ending, but then

again... what kind of Marvel story doesn't have

a satisfactory ending. There's just everything

in between, except for a good panel here or there,

a good battle here or there, some good dialogue

here or there. I think what saves it is probably

the interaction between Apocalypse and Deadpool.

And Deadpool trying to bring Apoc - I mean, I

can't see Apocalypse... Going back to being a

good guy again Go read that series. It's very

long and very satisfying But why he becomes what

he is as I said he and his father were thrown

into a pyramid father starved to death Apocalypse

survived and just you know mutated more and more

and more got in touch with more and more alien

technology and You know became the character.

We all know today Um, but I will say this much.

This is the first time I've seen him humbled

But then again, I've seen Thanos humbled if that

makes any sense from infinity gauntlet So we

definitely have a lot to talk about and you know

Marvelous is March over the years, especially

if we ever get to infinity gauntlet But I was

satisfied with the series. I think it's just

like three issues. I will never pick up again

and those are five six and seven yeah I I already

have them digitally I'm gonna archive the series

on Comixology so I don't have to really pay that

much attention to it anymore overall the entire

series I will give a three out of five stars

that's the best rating I can give it what about

you I'm not gonna take away for what the artwork

was able to do in a few issues I'm not gonna

take away what the Ryan did for the few issues

I'm not gonna take away with some of the panels

did I'm split down the middle because I and of

all the nine issues I have to go back to the

first one and five six and seven So that's five

I liked and four he didn't it's enough for me

to say I'll give it a three for the entire series

All right, well that's gonna do it for Avengers

and x -men access We'll be back after this to

briefly talk about access revolutions. We'll

be back in a moment Gamma rays pollution ozone

depletion Television progress lousy luck You

uh, close to your destiny. Would you like a drink?

Stalling me won't change anything. No, no, no.

Threatening. No drink, you sure? I'm having one.

The Chitauri are coming. Nothing will change

that. What have I to fear? The Avengers. That's

what we call ourselves. Sort of like a team.

Earth's mightiest heroes type thing. Yes. I've

met them. It takes us a while to get any traction,

I'll give you that one. But let's do a head count

here. Your brother, the demigod, a super soldier,

living legend, who kind of lives up to the legend,

a man with breathtaking anger management issues,

a couple of master assassins, and you, big fella.

You've managed to piss off every single one of

them. That was the plan. Not a great plan. When

they come... And they will. They'll come for

you. I have an army. We have a Hulk. Alright,

finally up today, folks, we have in episode 103

of this giant size, we have Avengers and X -Men

Access Revolutions. This was a four -issue mini

-series tying into Avengers and X -Men Access.

Um... It's just... It's interesting. I'll say

that. You have Dennis Hopeless as the writer,

Ken Lashley as the artist. I like the Spider

-Man story. I think that's a really cool story

because Spidey is trying to stop the World War

Hate thing that was going on when the first issue

of the main series was ongoing here. uh... any

again this whole thing of spidey trying to teach

a kid about life and about the world and i really

i really like that the art here is really cool

spidey looks good there all the humans look good

on may even you know on main young peter look

look really cool uh... What did you think of

the Spidey story here? To me this felt like a

public service announcement at the end of an

episode that we just had to wrap everything up

because this dealt with the World War hate virus

and even though this is the beginning of it um

It's a Spidey issue for most of it. I'm fine

with that when your name is Dennis hopeless enough

said but in fairness Spidey it's hard to do a

bad Spidey, you know, artwork, image in a Marvel

Con book nowadays, but the story to me kind of

felt like something out of the 70s or 80s with

a PSA. It didn't need to be there, and even when

you throw in J. Jonah Jameson, when Spidey's

trying to defeat the hate virus, putting JJ in

there is not a good sign, folks. Even to put

in Doctor Strange, I'm not too sure. This one

to me... Well, the Doctor Strange story is kind

of weird. I'm not the biggest Doctor Strange

fan. The only time I ever really have any reference

to him or anything is from his wacky days in

the superhero squad show and the few times he

showed up in Spider -Man, the animated series

in 94 with Dormammu and all that stuff. So I'm

not hip to Doctor Strange at all, folks. Uh,

yeah, and try to find that movie. But, um, yeah,

um, I don't know how much we're going to delve

into revolutions, but for me, this issue didn't

do too much. I didn't hate it, but I just kind

of skimmed through issue one. To me, it's just

a spidey PSA. And even him talking to the kid

and the kid with his blocking because I know

that 21st century kids are gonna be disrespectful

to adults and even to Spider -Man because nobody

respects Spider -Man that much anymore. I think

Hollywood has pretty much proven us that. I have

nothing, you know, positive. I don't hate it,

but I'm not a fan of it either, so I have nothing

more to say for... I like the Spidey story. I

don't really care about the Doctor Strange story.

With issue number two... we have uh... we have

two stories here again and that's kind of formula

for access revolutions folks it's two stories

in each issue uh... eight the man i used to be

is written by frank tiery uh... art is by paul

davidson hammered is written by kevin marr and

the art is by david la fuente uh... hammered

is awesome hammered is the thor story I love

the Sabertooth Nightcrawler. Really? Yes, I do.

I do. And I'll tell you why. I don't know what's

going on with Sabertooth. He really is trying

to be polite to this girl. And you know, Sabertooth,

as I said, I don't know his full story. I can

always get bits and pieces. And I think, again,

how he would try to... Create it where he and

Wolverine were half brothers even though I've

heard that's not true because we don't really

know their origins And we don't know too much

about them other than the fact that he hears

something that bothers me This is what I've been

perfect to put in Wolverine because if they hate

each other and they've been battling for so long

I understand you want to put a nightcrawler,

but I love the images of what Sabretooth looks

like. He's trying to be this gentle giant and

this woman's umbrella has blown away in the rain.

Sabretooth is trying to fix her up and trying

to be nice and who comes along and it's an evil

nightcrawler in a way. I mean, you know, Sabretooth

seems to be the good guy and nightcrawler in

the images looks like he's being the bad guy

and he's even about ready to call Sabertooth

an SOB and what is Sabertooth really doing? He's

defending himself, but he's not trying to pummel

Nightcrawler into the ground. Nightcrawler has

these crazy eyes. He's trying to get away. He's

laughing off Nightcrawler. Even in the background

of the shadows, Nightcrawler to me looks like

he's possessed. And Sabertooth is trying to do

his best to get away. He thinks that Nightcrawler

is nuts. He eventually does fight off Nightcrawler

I guess with a You know hot dog cart and I forget

the Nightcrawler has teleportation powers And

Sabretooth even goes, you know, guess I ain't

the man I used to be because Sabretooth, I guess,

wants to change himself. I think there was a

series or something, maybe the 90s X -Men cartoon,

where Sabretooth did try to, you know, change

for a while. Well, in the 90s cartoon, that was

all a ruse put on by Magneto. That was just a

trick to get into the Xavier School and to figure

out what they were doing. It was just a whole

spy thing. You know, now that you're talking

to me about this and we're reviewing it here,

I kind of do like the Saber 2 story now. I don't

like it as much as... Like the safety story for

the character building that it does for him And

I wish that I honestly wish he would have stayed

a good guy, but sadly we can't have that But

when I originally read it I was like saber -tooth

and nightcrawler I just don't care if it had

been like saber -tooth and Wolverine, but obviously

Wolverine's dead so that can't happen you know

But the second story that's in this issue is

hammered and it's about a journalist who uh...

has a night of drinking with four and it's it's

all marketed on social media i love how this

is that one of the stories laid out yet it's

it's it's loony -toony it's it takes a look but

unfortunately it has nothing to do with anything

because we know okay so now we know why the work

was in vegas in the series but The journalist

I mean him going on the chariot with the Rams

and Him buying tons of out. I mean, here's the

thing. I have not read too many Thor comics I

just know Thor from superhero squad and the movies

and as well as you know Marvel zombies Other

than the fact he speaks Shakespearean. I don't

know too. I mean it goes very Teen Titans going

away Him treating the Vegas like Asgard is awesome

yeah um but at the end of the day it's an issue

that i guess they they knew they couldn't stretch

this out into 22 pages there was no way and they

had to split it in half with another story and

that's great but this has nothing to do with

world war hate and i'm not saying it's a bad

thing i'm just saying that what does it really

have to do with anything other than in store

just having a good time Well, I mean, you know

if you look at the first issue look at the second

issue here the two stories in both of them You

know those dr. Strange story and the spider -man

story had a lot to do with World War hate the

the saber -toothed nightcrawler story had to

do with the Outcome of what World War hate was

and then here you you know Like you said in the

main series we saw something about Thor being

in Vegas and this is just kind of showing you

Hey, this is what happened with Thor in Vegas

um... i don't necessarily feel it was a you know

hey we need to fill to reach twenty two pages

because i like the story i thought it was interesting

i was damn funny uh... but at the same time with

the title of access revolutions i was expecting

something not just two one -shot stories focusing

on a few characters Like I was I was expecting

Like a prequel or? No, I was it. Well, this is

a tie -in. So I was expecting something like

The story and I hate to say this because I hate

when sometimes when people do this but the story

from a different person's point of view like

in in the whole episode that we've done to this

point now of the podcast, you know the whole

series of Avengers and x -men access It faces

very different storylines, but it's from certain

points of view. How about showing us from a different

point of view? How about taking Access Revolutions

and showing us the human point of view? Because

there's a huge difference between myself as a

regular human being and Captain Falcon who is

a superhuman. You know what I mean? It's like,

I don't know. Like what they did here. I do like

a couple of these stories, but at the same time

it's like I was with a name like access revolutions

I was expecting something a little bit more deep

than just a couple of funny one -off stories

You know what I would have liked to see I would

have liked to see Apocalypse's story. I would

believe this because here's the thing I don't

go back to a million times, billion times, you've

got to read Age of Apocalypse, people. I mean,

I would have liked to see him. He doesn't have

to go into therapy. You don't have to make it,

you know, comical. But it would have been interesting

if you have the head of Deadpool talking to Apocalypse.

You could have had kind of like an aftermath

of Apocalypse trying to go back to what he was

like before he... Got his hands on that alien

technology and got all ripped or something. I

would or even something with kid apocalypse the

problem is that we're focusing so much on the

heroes and change if you're going to change someone

big like apocalypse you have to have a payoff

and Unfortunately, I'm just seeing all these

tie -ins And so far, there's only one issue for

me that has worked, and two stories, and that

one issue that has worked. And even then, one

of them is just Sabretooth who just wants to

walk away from everything. You have Thor being

Thor. The next one where we get into is Sandman.

First of all, Sandman wasn't even in Access.

No, this is a full -on one -shot. The Castle

in the Sand story, which is the second story

here, it's written by Frank The artist is Victor

Santos. Castle in the Sand. I skimmed it. I read

it pretty fast. It's friggin' Sandman, people.

Nobody cares about Sandman. Nobody's cared about

Sandman since Thomas Hayden Church played him

in Spider -Man 3. Well, that did, folks. Well,

wait a second. James Cameron wanted to have Sandman.

But besides that, here's the thing. I guess Sandman

is supposed to be... Marvel's version of Clayface,

but it's just But the problem is he's not interesting

in any form of media So I skim through this one

didn't care for it I I couldn't even review it

if I wanted to because he's not interesting character

No, the first story in this before that was uh...

nice shots it basically focuses on kitty pride

trying to take down a bank corruption it is pretty

much key pride in what whatever this week it

this week's police procedural is i mean it it

caribbean is like you take any character in here

you know you put harry bullock in here and it

would be you know a police procedural with harvey

bullock from god i mean it just it's just one

of those things where i like the story that i

like nice shot i thought in in issue three the

first story nice shot i enjoyed it i thought

it was kind of funny with how kitty does all

these things with her walking through walls and

whatever else i thought that was kind of cool

but again I wish it was a little, I wish this

series was a little bit more than what it actually

is. The fourth and final issue we have Man of

Ice written by John Barber, and art is Guillermo

Margaron and Felix Ruiz. It's basically an Iceman

story. I thought it was Groot as Iceman, but

whatever the case is, I liked the imagery, I

just didn't care too much with the dialogue,

and he's calling himself Iceheart. Might as well

be calling himself Darkheart from Care Bears.

Again, it looks like that Jack Frost character

from the Franken -Bass stop -motion puppetry.

It looks like Groot at times. Iceman, unless

it was from that 80s cartoon, Spider -Man and

his Amazing Friends, I have never been that interested

with Iceman. I mean, I guess if Freeze from DC

Comics was a good guy and he had a son, that's

Iceman, but at the end of the day, what is Iceman

really doing but freezing people and his, you

know, his heart of ice, he's called his ice,

and he's just... tormented because he's made

of ice and he's freezing people and he just freezes

a woman who's in love with him but then I don't

know he shatters her or she leaves I just didn't

care. Iceman to me is not interesting either.

I mean I liked John Barber's dialogue because

again it's something that I have not seen Barber

do because I'm so used to Barber writing on Transformers

so I thought it was kind of cool that way. uh...

the story itself is is kind of silly and weird

uh... i'd do like bobby drake as ice man i liked

ice man when he briefly showed up in the i think

he briefly showed up in the ninety two series

of the the x -men answers and obviously in the

movies i like them there uh... but again and

i know people are sick of me saying this already

in this long as podcast we're doing here but

i'd just can't get back behind the whole thing

of, oh my god, it's just one -shots. And then

of course we have, uh, you know, Latveria. Yeah,

yeah, Latveria. Latveria isn't, again, it's a

Doctor Doom story that has no bearing on anything.

You know what? Unless the only thing I could

think of is that they were trying to push a dr.

Doom comic, but I cannot see they can't make

it Comical unless they make doom a comedic villain

and they did that well with superhero squad.

So unless they do that I Have no desire and I've

never cared about doom. Anyway He's just absolutely

yeah, absolutely, I mean Honestly, Julian McMahon

made Doctor Doom interesting. And we all know

how everyone hates those Fantastic Four movies,

but... I don't. I own them. In fact, I had to

hunt all the way to Maryland to get my hands

on Fantastic Four and Blu -ray before they finally

released it. I'm okay with it. I'm even okay

with... We had Ian McGuffrey sitting for Mr.

Fantastic. That's no Ian in in the graph. Yeah.

Um, I was happy with him. I was actually happy

Even dare I say Jessica Alba. No, um, I think

the problem with doom is that I get the fact

that he was vain and I get the fact how he's

supposed to have like this gypsy accent, but

the problem is is that I never find it to be

too intimidating because he's been overshadowed

by bigger and powerful villains. So the only

person that ever made an interesting for me besides

the movies is superhero squad hee hee hee hee

hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee

hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee I'm not sure

who's joining me, but I'm going to be doing Superior

Iron Man, issues number one through five. So

we'll be doing that. And then after that, we're

going to close out with another giant -sized

episode where it might be Jeremy with me, or

it might be Ryan from Star Joe's. I'm not sure.

We're going to talk about Marvel's Star Wars

Number Ones, where we talk about the main ongoing

series and the Darth Vader and Princess Leia

series. So, that's what's going on in Marvelous
