The Pull Bag
IDW TMNT and Ghostbusters Crossover Review

About this Episode
Hi, this is Bobby Curnow, Chief Turtle Editor
at IDW Publishing, and you are going to have
a shell of a good time inside the pull bag. Welcome
to The Pull Bag. Join us as we dig out our latest
comics and discuss them with a rotating panel
of the GCRN crew. So sit back and enjoy this
week's Pull Bag. Alright folks it is time for
the poll bag This is episode 98 episode 98 was
gonna be a very a variety of things that at one
point was gonna be the grim fairy tales Robin
Hood Issues it was gonna be angels smile time
and now it's going to be TMNT Ghostbusters crossover
from IDW publishing I am one of your host Tfg
and Mike. Joining me is Joe Reed. Hello, sir.
Hello and hello listeners Yes So, how are you?
I I can't complain about how I am. I'm pretty
well and I don't know this this the Ghostbusters
turtles thing. I can't say I was excited for
that but I Was excited but I was skeptical at
the same time and what made me even more skeptical
was this this was when I heard about this it
was I had that convention and I went and met
Tom Waltz and He says, yeah, we we went to Sony
and we went to Viacom and we said, you know,
it's a big anniversary for both properties. Can
we make this in Canon for both comic series?
And they said, yes. And then I go like, what?
And, you know, I didn't I didn't foresee parallel
universes. I saw that the turtles were going
to climb out of the sewer and then go to the
Ghostbusters firehouse that they existed in the
same world. Like, wait, how can that? No way,
because. But they handle that in a different
way, and we'll discuss that when we get to it.
For me, this is a 4 -issue mini -series from
IDW. For me, I was excited for it. I have yet
to, and I want to eventually get into the IDW
Ghostbusters series. Even though I know it's
ending or has already ended, I'm not sure if
it's already done yet or not. I do want to go
back and get into that. Ladies and gentlemen,
I've been doing this podcast for three years
now and it's just been one thing after another.
I don't have enough time in a week, let alone
a day to read all the comics I should probably
read or want to read. But as always, because
this is Turtles, it's me and Joe here for TMNT
Ghostbusters, the crossover. We have four issue
number one. There are, and I'm not sure why,
because there's, oh, no, I know why. There are
six total covers for this one. You get the regular
cover with Donnie and Egon in the background,
and then the rest of the Turtles and the rest
of the Ghostbusters in the foreground here. This
is the regular cover. What do you think of the
regular cover sir? I need to go open it again
because on ford my issue one is Gone, I can't
find it and kind of I know it's around here somewhere.
I last know a couple of what was it? Saturday
I had the big comic book sort and I finally got
everything on the new shelves that I bought from
Costco in short boxes Sorted alphabetized numbered
except I can't find my number one. So it's probably
hiding upstairs. There's the cover. I just brought
it up Well, I this is this particular cover is
by the artist who's been on the Ghostbusters
since the book one I've really enjoyed his cartoony
abstractions of the actors. There's a slight
blend between the animated series and the actual
real people who played them and they're very
exaggerated, stretched out large chins, but you
can tell who they are and they're exquisitely
expressive and so he's doing the turtles and
his take on the turtles is relatively unique
their shells are gigantic, but it's they aren't
as Obtrusive as like the movie turtles gigantic
shells There's slightly more traditional looking
outside of having the giant shell on the back
They even are the turtles are so traditional
that they even have that little circle belt buckle
That's just missing their little colored initial
on there for them to be like animated series
But I like his turtles and and they they fit
with how the Ghostbusters and the characters
from that world look. Absolutely. The subscription
cover, for those of you who added this to your
pull box, pull bag at your local comic shop,
is the four Ghostbusters standing on New York
City Street with the turtles coming up out of
the sewer. I love this. I thought this was the
coolest one I had seen when this was first solicited.
I was like, hey, that's kind of cool. It's you
know there because it makes it it makes them
look it makes the Ghostbusters look like they
are hunting the turtles Like they would hunt
a ghost and those those turtles anytime you put
the green around their eyeballs Behind the masks.
I think they start to look creepy Especially
Donnie's bottom gums down there. They look a
little kind of a mutant instead of a mutant turtle
that we love And each one of those ghosts, except
for Egon who wears glasses, they all look pupil
-less. So they look weird to me. I don't know
what that is. Yeah. There was a retailer incentive
cover, which is pretty much Eastman. That's really
cool. It is really cool. It is them. It's both
teams, Turtles and Ghostbusters, but they are...
Basically like both trying to sneak around a
corner They're basically on on a street corner
one team is on one side of the building The other
team is on the other side of the building and
they're about to meet and surprise each other,
you know I just realized that that is an homage
to the Raphael cover of That's the one shot from
old my where their backs are to the opposite
brick walls. I I think this is Wherever that
original art is in 25 years from now, it's going
to sell for lots of money. When you get the creator
of one property drawing the characters from another
and it got published, that's a very, very unique
image. That doesn't happen a lot. These characters
don't come together in print by the creator of
one of them. I think that's way cool. You get
that signed by Dan Aykroyd. Oh, yeah. And Eastman.
Oh my golly, that'd be way cool. That would be
amazing. The next one is a retail exclusive.
Now, I'm not sure. Oh, it's OK. It's the Hastings
cover. This is a retail exclusive for Hastings.
It is pretty much all monotone for the most part,
except for, obviously, the letters for the both
team names and all that. I like this one. It's
got some nice lines on it. It's got some interesting
drawings on it as far as the characters go. I'd
say this one looks most like the movie team than
any of the other ones as far as the overall design
goes. What's Hastings? I'm not sure what that
is. It's a store somewhere. It's probably some...
Like Kohl's or something like that. I assume
I could be wrong here Yeah, it's it's a media
store looks like Games books music movies kind
of like an FYE I guess all right something like
that Like I said, I like that cover. I think
it's interesting. It's not my favorite though.
My favorite would have to be the next one. Yeah,
the Slimer doesn't get exactly enough attention
in the comic series, and I understand why. He's
kind of the icon from the animated series that
maybe or maybe not was a little too silly. He
was the celebrity of that show, but Slimer's
wearing a red Raphael Ninja Turtle mask. He's
apparently slimed both teams. uh... and and michael
angelo is is tasting the slime uh... you know
what you need come on there's only oh it is the
four of them i didn't see that but you know i
i i absolutely love the slimer cover that's that's
just awesome uh... okay we got to uh... yet Geez
three more. Holy crap. There were 70 things.
Next one is another retailer exclusive. It's
An all -out war it looks like this was for awesome
con this this cover was here I like the other
ones better This one just looks too weird It's
a little cacophonous, you know that actually
that looks like four kids Michelangelo, the 4KidsTV
version. Yep. At least the eyebrows. The eyebrows
and eyes do, I think. Yeah, a little bit. That
guy's got a good style, but I don't know if it...
Well, no, they're good turtles and they're good
Ghostbusters, but I think that guy's style, whoever
he is, would probably be better suited to a different
property. Second to last one is the Hot Topic
cover and this one is awesome because you have
the Ecto -1 and the Turtle Van on one cover.
Or that thing that will probably eventually become
the Turtle Van. I love that. I think that might
be an homage to issue number three of the original
Ninja Turtles comic, the one with the car chase
in it. I wish I was closer to that. It's across
the room. I can't go check, but wait a minute.
I have the internet in front of me. The last
one was for vacomics .com. It's a black and white
wraparound of the four turtles. That's beautiful.
That is absolutely beautiful because it hollows
out. It doesn't hollow out, but it basically...
Puts them all in black and white and basically
keeps the colors of the mass so purple red blue
and orange that one is great Absolutely, so issue
number one We get a lot of a Lot of background
this first issue actually you have to carry me
on this because I don't have this issue in front
of me Oh, yeah, that's right Okay, so pretty
much I'm actually going to read this from the
book, folks. It's the opening crawl here. Well,
we'll get the creatives out of the way first.
Written by Eric Burnham and Tom Waltz. Art by
Charles Paul Wilson III, pages 1 to 5. Corey
Smith, 6 to 9. And Dan Schoening, pages 10 to
22. Colors by Louis Antonio Delgado and Rhonda
Pattison. Letters by Neil Uitek. And edits, obviously,
by Bobby Kernow. it was the best of times it
was the worst of times that's right this is a
tale of two cities but the twist is they're both
new york separated by a dimensional wall on one
side of the dimensional gulf is the new york
inhabited by the teenage ninja turtles a city
full of ninjas mutants and science and sorcery
that spans centuries on the other the new york
of the ghostbusters where science tracks the
supernatural and Removal of unwanted phantoms
and poltergeists is a blue -collar job rife with
city contracts and bureaucracy. The pizza's pretty
good in both universes. And this opening here...
This is one of the things that IDW goes out of
their way to do. For someone who like me has
never read the Ghostbusters thing the Ghostbusters
series from IDW even though I know who the good
I know the characters of it like I know they're
gonna have Janine I know they're gonna have Slimer.
I know they're gonna have the four guys I know
they're gonna have Ecto -1 You know I know all
of the general things that everyone knows about
the 31 year history of the Ghostbusters since
the first film but in the context of the IDW
universe what I love is You know They give descriptions
for the characters, you know, you get a description
for Peter Winston Egon Yeah, that's an array
for the people who maybe aren't reading the other
comic to know right? Right and vice versa with
the turtles you have a description for Kitsune
Michelangelo crying Leo April Donnie Casey Harold
and Raph You know and this one opens up Thousands
of years ago powerful immortals rule the world
and they mysteriously disappeared But really
what does never Let's see never to return again,
but really what does never mean to an immortal
and we see on this bottom panel of the first
page Kitsune Rat King and some other dude Which
apparently as we find out is their their other
brother You know, so we go through this we we
see, you know Japan during the Muromachi period
And they kind of revisit the whole shredder crank
thing here, I love the art in this book I really,
really do. Something I didn't notice the first
time, and I'd want to go back and check the first
issue, too. When they're in the Turtles universe,
the artist is the artist who's currently on the
Ninja Turtle book. And as they're kind of zooming
in over on the Ghostbusters and the Racking stuff,
it's changing from... The Ghostbusters artist.
So when the Ninja Turtles go to the Ghostbusters
world, the Ghostbusters... Turtles are drawn
by the Ghostbuster artist and I wonder if this
Foot Clan stuff was drawn by the original Foot
Clan guy. I'm kind of curious. No, I didn't.
I don't know what pages they were reading referring
to. Yeah, I'm not sure. But like I said, I mean,
the art here is is just. Amazing. I don't think
it is the original art though the original TMNT
artist because the fall of the foot clan guy
maybe Was on fall of the foot clan. I don't even
remember now You talk I'll look it up His secret
history foot clans what it was called that's
right. Yeah. Yeah I'm trying to think here. What
was that? But I don't think this is the, I don't
think this is the original artist because we
have a completely different look for crying on
the page here. I could be wrong though. Yeah,
it was Santolucco on that run, so no, that wasn't
it. Ah, yeah, no, no, no. This is not Santola.
I think this is, for the most part, Schoening
and Delgado, and it's got, let's see, the art
lists, Charles Paul Wilson III, Corey Smith and
Dan Schoening, so. I assume it's Charles Paul
Wilson III on the first five pages in this Krang
thing here. So that's Charles Paul Wilson III.
I can't think off the top of my head what else
he has done. So we visit Japan here. We kind
of re -envision the whole Kitsune meaning Krang
thing, which looks really, really awesome. I
mean, I've never seen this scene look this damn
good. Not that it didn't look good originally,
but the different take on it is amazing. After
that scene, we get to a few hundred years later,
and the turtles, Raph, or the turtles, Casey,
April, and Harold, are about to go on a dimensional
journey. And oh Yeah, they're testing the teleporter
before they go to yeah What's it burnout island
yeah, yeah, yeah, they're trying to get to burnout
island. I almost called it East Eastman is like
East Island Lairdman warehouse Lairdman Island
that yeah We did that episode to most to recently
Check out the East warehouse on Lairdman Island.
Yeah So they're trying to test the portal and
something goes wrong and As the boys and The
boys in Casey says Surprise master splinter we
error recalculating error. Oh And apparently
splinter heard them because he said is someone
there perhaps the television has been left on
again I just love the comedy here with Are they
there? Are they not there? Does Splinter know?
Does he not know? This series kind of makes him
more of an old man than what he really is. They
give him a little bit of crotchiness. We then
jump into the Ghostbusters and they are fighting
a ghost. He looks like Slimer's cousin with a
third eye. That's really what this purple ghost
looks like. Once again absolutely love the art
here The art is just so fantastic If you're if
we're talking ghostbusters, that's probably showing
now as oh, yeah, absolutely Absolutely Pause
the Alright folks, so we got the The one -eyed
monster that the Ghostbusters were fighting on
the previous page was actually one of the toys
you would Squeeze it and his little eyeball would
shoot out and with this red thread and you can
stick it back in his body So that's they do that
a lot in the Ghostbusters comic they they reference
the old toys You'll see them running around in
the background as real ghosts So so this is their
homage to that particular toy. I had that when
I was a wee lad he was quite cool he's still
in this he still looks like the purple cousin
with a third eye of Slimer I mean really so this
battle is going on and again the art oh god it's
so good and as as quickly as those books are
released that guy I mean they look everything
looks so tight, but he must be able to draw so
fast every Wrinkle in their clothes is exactly
how it should be Shoning is definitely one of
my favorite artists working now and when Ghostbusters
actually ends I'll be heartbroken, but I'll have
to follow him where he goes. I like his style
Yeah, and it wouldn't fit most books. I mean
you couldn't know you couldn't put him on the
Avengers You couldn't put him on Batman. It just
would not work but for Ghostbusters I it absolutely
works with the humor. Oh It really really does
and it works with turtles, too I Really appreciate
the stuff. Yeah, I the only thing I don't cuz
I have not been reading the the turtles or the
What am I saying? Of course I've been reading
The Turtles. I've been doing it for a year now.
I haven't been reading the Ghostbusters stuff.
I will say, when I was reading this, I cannot
hear Murray or Ernie Hudson. I can't hear any
of the actors' voices in my head when they're
talking here. It's the designs on them in this,
and I get it. They can't get direct... Likeness
is because let's face it Bill Murray would ask
for you know God knows what to have his likeness
put in it be put in it in a comic book Yeah,
that's why the cartoon designs had to change
because the people animating the cartoon didn't
have likeness rights that that didn't get secured
when the Ghostbusters property got secured But
it does help It does help starting the ghostbusters
book from the beginning because they There it
is done with so much love and especially those
first few issues where they're really establishing
it You know that that scene with the where peter's
possessed and he's in his own head sitting in
a psychiatry office and the ghost is trying to
rib him and he's there dropping his degrees saying
look I do this for a living you're totally not
going to be able to get their eyes out of me
and he's using all of his you know his phrases
and his dialogue it was it's brilliant uh and
and that's where you you get to know that yes
you can hear well and you're not even hearing
Bill Murray you're hearing Venkman And you're
hearing Egon say these things. You forget the
actors and hear the characters. Well, yeah, but
I mean, for me, for the most part, it's Murray
and Ramus and Ackroyd's voices as the characters.
Obviously, I would hear the characters, but obviously
it's their voices. And I just, like, this version
of Winston, I cannot hear Ernie Hudson voicing.
Like, it just... He's the least, like... He looks
too street in this. He really does. He looks
like he could, you know, if gone down the wrong
path, he could have become a gangster rapper
or something. I really like how they've fleshed
out Winston in this, and they go into this in
issue four of this. We'll all talk about it when
we get to four on it, but I like the way that
they've flushed him out in that world. so the
Ghostbusters are traveling in in the ecto -1
and Egon's assistant or Ray's assistant calls
them and and You know tells them about all this
stuff Janine is there dealing with it and You
know Between the two women, I mean what did they
do just change the hair color because the designs
look this look at that look at her lip The mouths
on a lot of his characters look like that. They're
kind of like Flintstone mouths. They come out
But they're bad that happens I can't remember
if, Kylie, I can't remember her name now. It's
a K name. It's Kylie. Kylie. I can't remember
if she was in the background of one of the movies
if she was working at Ray's Occult Books, but
that's where they found her to be in this series.
She probably was. She might have been in the
cartoon series or something. Oh, maybe. She was
in one of them. I do remember her briefly. Oh,
man, look at the ecto one. With the streaking
headlights. Just so badass. Channel 6 news van
is From the turtles cartoon. Uh -huh. I just
So the the turtles arrive and It's they arrived
to a full house in the church because at this
point folks in our coverage we are way past the
point of them going to like be like they haven't
been back to the church in a long time as far
as like in their universe their their their their
church i mean we see it but we don't ever see
the exterior like we obviously see them in their
lair which is beneath the church in the turtles
book but we haven't seen the outside of of the
church in a long time so this is kind of it's
kind of freaky hey uh this isn't our home uh
and somehow this dimensional shift i think uh
is getting um oh man i i love i love all these
churchgoers What's this? Turtle costumes? No
one told me there would be a performance. Lucy
always was a little weird. Figured she'd go non
-traditional. Say, it's getting cold in here.
And then this entity somehow, I don't know if
it's because of the dimensional travel or what
the deal is, shows up. So the villain for this
series ends up being Qi Yu, this Chinese... from
folklore demon, but in the Turtles universe,
Chiyu is tied to, in the IEW series, tied to
Kitsune and the Rat King. He is their third sibling,
and who knows, maybe there are more of them.
And as he's brought into the Ghostbusters world
through that dimensional portal, that supernatural
energy just goes nuts for him, because in the
Ghostbusters world, that's real. That looks like
Irma. Yeah, it really does. It really does. So
we meet Chi - is it Chi -yu or Chi -yu? I think
it's Chi -yu. Chi -yu? Yeah. And other than the
page earlier where we see him next to Kitsune
and Rat King, we really don't get a whole lot
of - like that was his background. He's their
sibling. That's it. Everything else the rest
of this series We get no real background other
than what his actual plan is and his plan is
to take over the world Yeah, he ended up being
a Kind of empty villain and I'm sorry to see
that they took the threat away from him returning
to the turtles universe immediately I mean that
he made there's still I don't well, we'll get
to that too I don't want to give too much away
too soon, but just not sure like I'm hoping and
I'm sure I know Tom and Kevin and Bobby have
a plan but right now we're in the middle of attack
on technodrome so I know it's not gonna happen
anytime soon but I am hoping that we get current
-day you know you know storytelling for Kitsune,
Rat King, and Chayu Because this just makes him...
It just makes him less than one -dimensional.
It's your standard overpowered villain that wants
to take over the world, and he doesn't know why
he wants to take over the world, or some, you
know... Some weird thing happened to him as a
child, like maybe someone took away his Chu Chu
or something, and drove him to world domination.
So we get the turtles and and The turtles April
and Casey Casey says why did we not do the ninja
thing and disappear out of here already? That's
that's uh, that's pretty awesome Casey um And
you know rat you know how Raph is Raph is just
ready You know they even reference for for readers
that haven't been reading the turtles They even
reference that Mikey can't figure out what the
guy is saying since it's not Japanese That's
awesome. Uh -huh and and rashes radio for the
love of how about we take care of this guy instead
of standing around debating and Again the art
in this book is so well done Look at that blood
red. Oh, man. That panel is so awesome That is
just so cool. I gotta go buy some of this dude's
art. I gotta find out if I can buy some It is
just really cool So shy you wants to escape He
does escape Pretty much gives the turtles a shellacking.
They'll never forget because they can't Nothing
they do will hurt him The Ghostbusters would
say he's a free -floating vapor. Yeah, pretty
much And he ensnares Casey and Oh, wow, Shoning
actually makes April's short hair look cool Damn
it. They need to make her Anyway, hold on there
topic for another day So he Casey gets zombified
essentially And he becomes one of Shoning or
not not showing Wow Chayu's Disciples or minions
all they were all yes. Yes. That's what it was
I just love that picture of Casey when he stands
up his his hockey mask is just somehow just there
on his on the sheath of his Of his hockey stuff.
That's kind of awesome We go on to ice as Casey
Chai you says now I know that you turtles you
mutants aren't responsible for my imprisonment,
but I also know you would try to Stop me from
taking my rightful place as ruler of this world
Wish this was something that the art is great
the once we get to you know The turtles meeting
the Ghostbuster all of that the writing is excellent,
but I really wish the overall villain plot was
something better Agreed and in it and it goes
it feels that way all the way to the end too
mm -hmm it gets Slowly more lackluster as we
go along folks when it comes to the villain plot
And we get to the final thing here, and the Ghostbusters
show up. It's like, and then kick the door down.
Somebody call an exterminator? Who's him? Whoa.
Good. We don't need another lawsuit. It's all
right, Mr. Spooky. You can lock the doors. You
can lock the walls. But the Ghostbusters are
here. and apparently so are some kind of kung
fu martians god sometimes i hate this job um
issue one absolutely awesome i i like the introduction
of everything in this i'm just not sure like
i said the overall plot here folks for the villain
it's It doesn't tie enough into the Rat King's
motives or Kitsune's motives. It's so different
from what they're trying to do that he doesn't
feel completely a part of that. He doesn't feel
attached to his home universe. It doesn't matter
which universe he's ruling. He just wants to
rule one of them for some reason that we haven't
figured out. Yeah, it's just crazy. It's just
really is crazy. What are your overall thoughts
of issue one here when I as I was reading it
I didn't realize how lackluster the villain plot
was And and I in hindsight, you know watching
watching it a second time here and thinking about
it and finishing the series I think it was a
missed opportunity to bring his villainy into
The turtles universe see I drop the drop the
seed for the arc after the next arc Right in
that book or or to connect them to yeah wrecking
kitsune, but generally speaking I don't get crossovers.
I don't like them. I mean, I got the X -Files
one and I got the the Infestation one where Cthulhu
showed up in all the different books universes
and You know, I have them because I'm gonna get
every book that has a turtle in it But this one
is actually kind of okay. I'm digging this one
a little more than those You know, if anything
just to see my favorite characters interact Well,
yeah, that's kind of the whole point here is
to see the Turtles and the Ghostbusters how they
interact with each other issue number two I actually
have this one. Yeah, well you can still stick
with your guided view It has one two three four
five six six covers with this one The main cover
is the Turtles and the Ghostbusters fighting
the shadow of Chayu Which is the main cover issue?
I like it. It's not my favorite it. I don't know
it's alright but We also have a the sub cover
which I understand why they did this because
the convention was probably coming up But making
subscription covers blank variants for someone
like me that doesn't go to conventions at all.
I Think that's just a little cheap Tell you what
send it to me and I'll draw a picture on it I
can make it awesome. I'm sure you could. I didn't
get the subscription covered this time. I like
this next one because it's a black and white
pen, but it's on the comic book board. You can
still see the blue line behind it. And it reminds
you that it's original artwork and I like when
that kind of behind the scenes stuff happens.
Absolutely, this is a retail incentive. It's
a, as Joe said, black and white on the comic
page. It's the turtles and the Ghostbusters riding
in Ecto -1, and I believe it's Mikey up top.
Of course, it would be Mikey up top. We have
a 550. Okay. We have a hot topic retail incentive
where Mikey looks like he's falling down the
rabbit hole and Slimer is coming up after him.
That's kind of awesome. He's skateboarding the
oh Yeah, okay. Yeah That is kind of awesome.
I like that one too. I wish they had done four
of these though for for Hastings they did a Raff
cover with Raff holding the ghost trap like he's
gonna throw it. That's another when when those
things cross over like that. I think that's so
cool I wish there was four of these covers right
now for all four turtles cuz that would have
been so cool. You know, okay I got here's okay
my new project I gotta I gotta find an extra
Ninja Turtle action figure and I'm going to sculpt
him wearing one of the Ghostbusters proton packs
I'm gonna make I'm gonna make the whole pro I
got do I have I need it okay I gotta go get a
new Ninja Turtle figure Oh, just wait, because
you'll see when we get to issue three. You'll
see when we get to issue three. Just wait, just
wait. I kind of just showed you right there,
but just wait. But no, I love this one. This
is a retail incentive for Hastings with Raff
having the ghost trap over his head. um we have
the next uh comic exposure retail incentive or
retail exclusive i should say with the four turtles
and ghostbusters mashed up and oh wow no it's
a little more than that you have donnie You have
Donnie and Egon switching roles. Donnie's got
the goggles on and Egon has Donnie's bandana
on. Rap's got a proton pack, Leo's got a trap,
Winston has the katanas. Yep. I can't tell what
Mikey's doing. He's got a PKE meter, but I don't
know what's his other hand. He's got a PKE meter
and probably some tests. It's a pizza menu. Oh
yeah, it's a pizza menu. That's awesome. uh...
that's one of my favorite so we have uh... we
have issued to here uh... and uh... issued to
i still tried to go in with this on the uh...
with with an open mind but uh... it's still didn't
really resonate with me uh... once again i will
read the story here in the beginning For creative
we have Burnham and Walts on writing, Dan Shoning
as an art for all the entire comic. Colors by
Delgado for the entire comic. It was the best
of times, it was the worst of times. That's right,
this is a tale of two cities, but the twist is
they're both New York separated by a dimensional
wall. On one side we have... The turtles on the
other side, we have the Ghostbusters. The pizza's
pretty good in both universes. Our story so far,
due to an accident with their prototype teleporter,
the TMNT have been zapped to the world of the
Ghostbusters to make things worse, so has a shape
-shifting immortal known as Chaiu. Chaiu has
just used his newfound abilities to possess Casey
Jones, along with a handful of wedding guests
things look dire when the ghostbusters arrive
on the scene um i just and then i hear the ghostbusters
theme song absolutely absolutely um wait what
is that I gotta go to see who's there. I can't
tell if that was Bill. That has to be Peter saying,
okay, boys, we got a floater in the pool, because
you know what that reminds me of, don't you?
Say it. Caddyshack. I haven't seen that since
I was like four years old and didn't get the
jokes. How do you not remember the baby Ruth
in the pool from Caddyshack? All I remember is
the gopher. Go for his awesome, but yeah Yeah,
it was Peter that said that so the Ghostbusters
are letting shy you have it and You know he's
having his thralls tell him what sorcery this
is and They all say Ghostbusters Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters Wait, did Beetlejuice show up? Where's
Michael Keaton? What's going on here? I just
heard an interview with Michael Keaton on NPR
today. Whoa. That's weird. I know, right? Michael
Keaton on NPR, really? I love hearing what he
had to say. The dude takes his craft seriously
and he's a fun guy. Oh, absolutely. And the funniest
thing about this panel here where the three wedding
guests are saying Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters,
Ghostbusters, and then there's the trap. They
have the Ghostbusters emblem beside them. And
I'm like, wait, what, really? They're channeling
those images to cheat you because they're kind
of completing the picture. Like, those traps
will suck you in. The Ghostbusters symbol is
kind of... They may not be answering with words
as much as they're answering with their thoughts.
So I think that's what that is conveying. Yeah,
they could capture me. No, no, retreat my minions.
Once again, Art is absolutely fantastic. He's
rabbiting. So is the crowd, and I've never seen
an old lady move like that before. Yeah, I could
probably hear Ernie say that, yeah. Now you see
why I love that because you hear those lines
you like oh my god, I gotta I gotta hear that
You know and rafts trying to stop Casey from
going with them Strange that the manifestation
left these anthropomorphic turtle constructs
behind They're not constructs And of course Winston's
like, oh, yeah as strange as the fact that they're
all wearing masks The shots of them in the church
doing their thing the turtles doing that Donnie
looks like he's just laying down. I know it's
a shot of him You know sliding thing Yeah, but
it looks like he's just laying down and I really
wish that they would have put the letters on
on the circle emblems I really do doesn't like
bother me i'm not gonna take a point off of it
for it but i just it just seems like there's
something missing now that you pointed out that
they have them um see that's that's my problem
right here folks i can't tell uh uh okay i I
guess I can kind of tell now that I read it,
but like when I first read this and I saw this
panel, I couldn't tell which one was Ray and
which one was Peter, because again, if you look
at them, I'm okay sure Ray has a slightly different
haircut, but the noses and the mouths and all
that, they're basically the same. See, I look
for the goggles on Ray's head and the high, what
do they call those, the receding hairline on
Bankman. Yep, that's true. Those are my signifiers
and of course glasses for glasses in the cartoon
series pompadour Absolutely And I do like that
Peter asks Egon if they're demons because that
obviously references to the old Japanese days,
you know So as we go through this Attention all
turtle people we're ceasing fire now And April
is just mad as hell She looks like an old lady
there. Yeah, they aged his style ages her she
looks 30 now not She's probably 20 something
in the book, but yeah, but I mean the way showing
stylish she looks like she's 40. Yeah So, we
basically have them meeting between the two of
them, and we have her versus Peter. And anybody,
please tell me this doesn't remind you of something.
It's like, what if Peter Venkman and April O
'Neil were in a relationship? It's Sigourney
Weaver all over again, folks. Why is it always
the redheads who yell? And Ray's like, wait,
did you say Chiyu? That name sounds familiar.
He was a war god, right? Led the nine Li tribe
and fought the Battle of Zulu against Emperor...
Whatever. Wonder why I brought him to New York.
I just love this. That's kind of an interesting
thought. If Ray knows who Chiyu is, then they
must have... There must be a Chi -Yu here in
this world. Just like, well, and because this
is the one from the turtles universe that popped
over. Right. But I wonder if that also means
that there's a Kitsune and Rat King in this world.
Ooh! Since they're officially canon with each
other in this comic now. I don't know. They'll
never answer that question. It's for us to do.
Yeah. So Donnie's geeking out. on them and Raf's
like stop drooling these guys were shooting lasers
at us like three seconds ago and as we go along
we have and I still can't believe they're in
the church it just I'll say this about Shoning's
art now that I see a fully like stand -up turtle
here of his I'm not so sure I like the overall
design. They look great in action and they look
great on close -ups, but I don't know. The legs
seem, it's kind of like buying an action figure
and he's too back heavy. Yeah. His legs can't
support him. And then you have the Ghostbusters.
And we'll give you the talking animal discount.
Talking animal discount, oh my god, that's hilarious.
uh... of course raise like we have to do a system
is a real learning opportunity so basically what
happens here folks is the they decide to uh...
team up and they tell them about their dimensional
portal and raise like this is genius And they
haven't even introduced themselves yet, because
Mikey even points it out. He's like, totally,
hey, am I the only one who's weirded out we haven't
introduced ourselves yet? So, oh, that's right.
So April introduces herself, and then we have
a sound -off by the four turtles. Man, hold on,
let me see if I can do this properly. Oh, kidding!
You've got to be kidding me. There's no way.
Come on. Oh, God. I was hoping, because on Comixology's
Guided View, sometimes it opens up to where you
can see all four at once. Like, you see Leo and
Mikey, and then you see Donnie and Raph. Man,
that bites that it's not just one panel, but...
You know and raise or Peter's like color -coded
huh or the Ghostbusters that's a lot of cellies
in Raleigh Dude really This is why I've decided
to buy the book. It's for the banter like this.
I think that absolutely is the greatest thing
about this book So they all, uh, they all introduce
themselves, and we basically have... If Casey
was here, we'd have ten heroes. Um... You know,
and who is it, uh... Is it... Crap. Oh, it's
Peter. Hang on, Egon. We're not all gonna fit
in the car. This is your car. Leo, can we get
one, please? Oh man, it's so hilarious. I absolutely
love this, folks. So we get back to Chai Yu and
he is talking with his thralls and he's enthralling
more people as we go along. I like the drawings
on these people, but they just look too zombified
to me. I understand that's the point of this.
He's controlling them. but it's I don't know
they just look two zombies and he lets them go
for for now he's here run look at them Casey
Jones do you see coward cowards unworthy I desire
warriors to gift with my power so basically he's
taking over Casey's mind And Casey at first tries
to fight him the best he can Which is interesting
and Casey's just been through way too much Like
Casey is this series whipping boy? Yeah between
his dad and all of that and Now this it just
So we get back to the right no no no Venkman
uses that piece of equipment that he's got in
his hands Donatello's got the the squeeze ball
Sniffer probe that Peter took to Dana's apartment
when? In the first movie yeah, that's cool. Yeah
So they yeah, so they get back to my house Donnie's
hooked up to this thing and Egon is basically
Okay, so that is the he's wearing the the Louis
Tully Spaghetti strainer helmet with the wires
Don's wearing that and e guns in the back looking
out the picture Which was kind of that that heat
vision version of it that that graphic that they
have there Looks like one of the original action
figures put into negative. It's a Little knob
there. I think that that looks like a bitmap
cut and pasted in Oh absolutely and Mikey oh
poor Slimer yeah this rules is like is this like
a lava lamp be careful and hear more nods from
yeah not only the movie Ghostbusters but Slimers
in a tank like that in the video game In the
comic they make reference to the the ps3 xbox
360 video game They reference the rookie who's
the character that you play as that they refuse
to name because when he died They didn't want
to feel bad for him, so they called him the rookie
And and slimers in the tank in the main level
of the firehouse just like that so that nods
everywhere and and we've talked about this and
it's continuing here IDW takes your childhood
properties and swaddles them in a silk blanket
and and coos to them and then says these are
these are your babies too and they're just like
you remember and So they're doing it with Ghostbusters.
They do it with Ghostbusters with the turtles
and here they are all mashed together. It's a
big love letter. Oh, absolutely Yikes I'll be
fine, dude. Does he have kidneys? I think I saw
his kidneys So as we move along here we have
Egon and Ray and Peter and all them You know
So we have all that And we have Peter mouthing
off to Raph. Your friend sounds like he's struggling
with some things. He ain't my friend. He's my
brother. You better tell him to watch his step.
He goes down this rabbit hole with Egon. He might
wind up getting talked into. Trepanation. Trepanation.
Off to Dictionary .com. Yeah, a little boring,
actually. Let's take another... Hack in your
explanation for the entity you saw tonight. Okay.
Boring a hole in one's skull. Primitive brain
surgery. Oh, Jesus. I could see Peter doing that,
but not Egon. Oh, no, Egon would do it to somebody
else. Well, Peter would do it to somebody else
that he... because Peter doesn't know how to
do it. But, uh, but yeah. So... What I like about
this thing, it's really cool with this, is you
have Raph and Peter, Donnie and Egon, and then
Ray and Mikey, and then you have Winston and
Leo. This is part of them fleshing out Winston.
I think as much as I love Winston, And I really
associate him as a full -blown member of the
Ghostbusters. When I was a kid, it was the four
of them. And you go back and watch the movie
with adult sensibilities, you realize that Winston's
not in it until late. And he's only kind of a
bit character in it, really. He has a couple
of lines, but he's not one of the Ghostbusters.
But this series, the comic series, has taken
Winston and fleshed him out and made him a more
full character and a lovable character. He's...
in this world, you know, because it's not canon
with the movies as much as we'd like it to be.
He's an ex -marine or soldier of some variety
and so he's very big on honor and so the the
fact that they created him to be that in the
comic, and then pair him up with Leo like that,
who's also the big honor guy, it's perfect. Oh
no, it absolutely is perfect. It fits out really
well, and it wouldn't have fit. You put Leonardo
with Ernie Hudson's character, they wouldn't
have had that relationship because he wasn't
complete, but here it works beautifully, and
Winston's just a great character in this series
especially. Yeah, he is so we so we have all
the meetings done we have the turtles meeting
the Ghostbusters or anything else we have April
we have Janine now and April April and Janine
and it's just Janine. It's more Janine and Peter
because Peter's off panel here, but And I know
folks some people that listen the podcast don't
like me reading the comic word -for -word But
I have to bring this up as we're talking about
this she says here April have a coffee, sweetie
Trust me. You're gonna need the caffeine. Hey,
you never bring me coffee. I like her more than
you Peter So they have a nice little chat and
Kylie comes in with a bunch of books and she
reminds me of a really real like if I hate to
say this but her design reminds me of if Lydia
was a yeah she reminds me of Lydia from Beetlejuice
if Lydia was a real real bookworm she doesn't
look like wine on a rider but she just her design
it just It's the bangs and the white skin, the
I haven't seen sun in 10 years skin. Yeah. Absolutely.
Wait, how is he out? Oh, wait a minute. No, no,
no. Hold on a second. I thought we were... We
were back upstairs. Yeah, we're upstairs in the
firehouse and then all of a sudden we go back
downstairs But Kylie was I'm lost here people.
Maybe they have Slimer upstairs here Yeah, because
there's not a window on the ground floor. So
I guess he is on the second floor He's next to
the ecto one in the video game, but I'll forgive
them If only Mikey was standing there instead
of Donnie, that would have been awesome. Because
that is something my... In the next panel, folks,
Slimer is basically raspberrying Ray. Yep, so
they go downstairs. And we then go to Midtown.
Eastern Conference quarterfinals, New York versus
Montreal. Oh hockey. Okay And if Casey I Was
really hoping Casey was gonna show up here. This
would have been so cool to see Casey on the ice
So basically what's going on here folks is Chay
you has basically destroyed the hockey game we're
not gonna have a hockey championship this year
there's no strike but a demon basically came
in and destroyed everything folks uh... uh...
so charlie was building his army and these designs
are just amazing back like all the backgrounds
here the smoke coming up for like look at those
monsters and he's more than enthralled these
two hockey teams i and i that was definitely
input from casey's experience you want the toughest
guys in the world hockey hockey absolutely um
and casey asks him why didn't you do that to
me You are an incentive. I want your mutant friends
to share with me the secret of traveling to other
worlds Why should I have to lock my mind with
link my mind with a lower life form when I can
just as easily forget force their allegiance
by Threatening your life ah So we finally get
back to the basement and We see the containment
unit. Love that design of the containment unit.
That's from the cartoon. Yep. The one from the
movie is a little understated for me, but I do.
I like that. Yeah, the one from the movie is
kind of barely there, really. For the most part.
So everybody's coming downstairs now. They get
told that, let's see, what does Jenine say? Someone
called about a ghost with a bull's head attacking
the hockey playoffs in Midtown before the call
was cut. That dude had Ghostbusters on speed
dial. Do you think in New York it's one of the
emergency presets in your cell phone? 911, ambulance,
and the... The cell phones come with I'm okay.
I know you can preset like Like what you're talking
about is I remember actual phones coming with
like the the button phones coming with the preset
buttons, but I don't know if My cell phones upstairs,
but I think when I go to my phone book on my
cell phone The first three numbers are three
emergency numbers I like I get I can I don't
know what there's an icon of a fire up a blue
cross and a the Red Cross and then 9 -1 -1. Right,
yeah. So, and of course, Raph states the obvious,
obviously. Hockey playoffs, it's gotta be Casey,
bro. You know, so, they're all gonna go help
their friend, mechanically inclined or not. So,
let's see what... Believe that the energy signature
is the key to returning to you your proper dimension
if Degradates too far you'll rise You'll risk
in being lost forever And basically they have
about 72 hours or less And I think that's Ray
Okay, how long did it take you to build the transfer
the first time it took weeks, and I had a lot
of help Hey! It's Stay Puft! That's awesome.
Well, in that case, Ray, what are you doing?
We gotta go, man. Getting my spare. Oh, man.
That's just... You know, like you said, working
in all this stuff is just so cool. If Donnie
here wants to help, we'll let him help, and I've
got just the thing. Dude, can I? Absolutely not.
And we have Donnie with a proton pack on, and
that's how this issue ends. I like this issue
more than I like the first issue because of the
fact that you have... So much of the banter.
you have so much of the banter you have um...
you have so much of the banter and then you have
all of the setup of them going to stop chayu
um... you have a little bit of chayu starting
his army but you basically it's basically the
introductory introductory issue whereas the first
issue was hey here are these universes this is
what's going on this dude broke out of whatever
jail he was in And Bing Bam Boom, there you go.
But issue number two is so much better than issue
number one. I can see that. I agree. We're going
to take a quick break, folks. We're going to
come back with issues three and four after this.
Alright folks, we are back and it is time for
issues three and four of TMNT Ghostbusters. Issue
number three's cover is Chayou and Thrilling
Casey with everybody else looking on. With mild
concern. And then we have the most awesome cover
ever, and this actually ties into what actually
happened in the last issue. In issue two at the
end, Mikey says, oh dude, can I? Absolutely not.
And then the cover, one of the, it's the sub
cover for issue three is Mikey wearing a proton
pack. I am going to buy a Michelangelo action
figure tomorrow. To start building that I'm gonna
probably use the Nickelodeon series, I think
Absolutely love that one and then the The hot
topic cover is the Ghostbusters and the turtles
fighting people coming out of the ground the
Hastings cover. Oh man. I love this. It's it's
It's a color version of what we had in issue
two Yeah, you're right. It's but as much as we
enjoyed the drawn version of the turtles Riding
atop the ecto one. I like this color version
even more. You know what I think happened? The
artist had a due date and he missed it 22 days
guys, okay could have been so issue three here
folks we have we start this one off with the
story so far the TMNT are in the Ghostbusters
New York with limited time to find their way
back to their own dimension. If that wasn't bad
enough, Casey Jones has become enthralled by
a demonic being named Chai Yu. Luckily the Ghostbusters
stand ready to help. The P .K .A. meters are
charged and the hunt is on for Casey and the
entity that has him. Dum dum dum. Um, absolutely.
Once again, the art in this series is amazing.
Really really is We open up with the turtles
and the Ghostbusters heading out to find Casey
and shy you We let's see we get to actually get
there and and Donnie of This sounds like a Mikey
line, but Donnie of all people all right shy
you put up your hands or your mutants have found
us casey jones my thralls so do them and we have
a lot of battle between the ghostbusters the
turtles and the thralls and shayu yeah this is
pretty much the battle issue folks there is some
witty banter here but uh... you know It's the
action looks great It really does What do you
think of of this opening here of them just immediately
getting to the battle? After the end of the first
after the end of the second issue it's to be
expected kind of the predictable encounter or
rather the force I don't want to say predictable,
but you the inevitable encounter where we're
gonna see the crossover battles Donnie with the
proton pack and their experiences that way but
Yeah, I mean that I guess that's one of the gripes
is that the actions is is forgettable the banter
is why you stay though And you know so we get
the end of this battle here where where Mr. Taurus
Bulba is a I'm sorry, I had to throw in a bad
Darkwing Duck joke, folks. Man, I haven't seen
that in a long time. I bought a season on DVD
for Oliver when he's older, but I'll get that
reference in about a year or two. And, you know,
Casey's apologizing to Winston. And Chayou and
Casey, you know, basically escape. He says this
is the second time you You have caught me unaware
mortals there will not be a third when next you
will see me you will record it Why do they always
say that? Is there a class? So later we get to
the firehouse again, and we have Kylie telling
them You know about different things that were
going on during the battle We have a bunch of
Explanation here. This is pretty much the explanation
issue as well as battle issue So It's good, but
it's slowly going downhill yeah, they're there
work in their theories about what kind of new
tech they can invent to build it. And of course,
Donatello is going to get in on helping. The
interesting bit here, just from a writing standpoint,
Kailey is referencing something that happened
earlier in the Ghostbusters comic at issue 18
that basically says, yeah, this is in continuity.
The turtles were actually here in New York. And
in fact, I think in one of the turtles issues
we just read they referenced Yeah, when we were
hanging out with those Ghostbuster guys and so
if they are definitely in continuity with each
other. Oh, absolutely But that that so that gets
dropped in here and then oh they're techno battle
continues well, yeah, well the reason why that
got dropped in one of the more recent turtle
issues is because Donnie and Harold are testing
out to make sure the friggin portal works instead
of sending them to The Ghostbusters, New York,
he because they're trying to get back to Brno,
Iowa. Yeah Yeah, so the the techno babble continues
We go back to Chinatown and and Chai you is asking
Casey How do you defy me You have been fighting
my control from the beginning. Maybe you and
my dad should form a support group then, because
I'm not going to stop fighting you. Yeah, he
gets the short end of the stick, but Casey is
a fighter, and that's... He is. He is, and that
is a very good thing, but it just... It's just
so heartbreaking that Casey has to be... Like
I said earlier the whipping boy, you know Or
Casey basically has to be the kid that has his
tongue stuck to the pole There's only so many
times I can get a Christmas story reference into
a comic podcast people So we go back and forth
we get back to Ghostbusters and turtles You know
we have Leo taking charge and raise like bossing
much It's kind of his thing to an important question
about your car. Can I work the siren? So we get
back to shy you and he has all these He snores
at something because it's not showing and then
he's Someone off -screen says, hey Ferdinand,
who's Ferdinand? You're a bull in Chinatown,
really? You're gonna go that way? Ghostbusters
mutants, I told you that you would regret our
next meeting. Did you think me a liar? And we
have another battle. And this battle, this next
full page of the battle is really dark. The backgrounds,
the shading, the colors, like, I'm not expecting
this to be, you know, super bright. I'm not expecting
this to be like TMNT 37 was where you have Shredder
and Crang on a boat in the middle of the ocean
and it's nothing but blues and whites everywhere,
but it just, this next, this whole thing just
seems way too dark here. It works. I just I don't
know. Maybe it's just me So they're trying to
get to Casey because they're trying to obviously
free Casey. Yeah, cuz the one of the inventions
were these Palm strike kind of ghost Defibrillators
so the Ninja Turtles are using those because
they're the the close combat guys And so they're
smacking these thralls left and right breaking
them free of she used power So they're trying
to get to Casey to do that to him Mm -hmm in
case he shows up looking like shredder. I was
that's that's a neat outfit. I kind of think
that I Wish shredder would actually wear that
No, I'm being yeah, it's a good outfit because
the whole red snuggie thing is getting old even
at this point You know they when they went to
north when the turtles went to Northampton I
think Bobby had told us, oh, well, you're going
to see a change in April's design, and that's
where the short hair comes from. I honestly think
it's time for them to switch up Shredder's design
and homage anything else other than what he currently
has. You can homage the TMNT 90 film. You can
homage the animated series from 87, or hell,
even the 2003 anime, anything except that damn
red snuggie. People at Joe and I have been doing
this for a year now or so and that still bugs
the crap out of me I know it's a nitpick but
So we get we get Casey Going to basically Chinese
telling him to destroy them We have a fight between
Casey and Raph Which is simply awesome Mean it's
it's not all that often you see a fight between
Casey and Raph And it's like a super Casey as
well he's gigantic yeah Maybe all that armor
is for making coleslaw All this weight is they're
really gonna support all of us Yeah, that's that's
all that they're missing here. They're missing
Kevin Nash. That's all that's missing from Casey's
design How did it mutate his armor So we have
that battle and we finally get We finally get
Casey free so Casey is no longer say Raph does
it Raph actually tells him you should know better
than anyone case Don't take your eye off the
ball. And he basically frees Casey somehow by
knocking something off his chest or something
or other. So that's the palm defibrillator Ghostbuster
invention. Oh, that's okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So we get Casey back. And that's a good thing.
Thank God. We get back to the Firehouse. Yeah,
Peter had a big... ghostbuster energy bazooka
that he shoots Chi you with to slow him down
and How about that guys some of us all guys can
come up with our own plans and Leo says you blew
him up Why on earth wouldn't you lead with that?
Absolutely, absolutely, that's yeah, I don't
know why he didn't do that Well, he says Pete
Pete says because it's because with ghosts only
a temporary fix our pal Chi Chi is gonna pull
himself back together Eventually when he does
he's gonna be cranky Yep, so we get back to the
firehouse They're trying to figure out how to
get back home We then go back to chai you back
in Chinatown uh... he basically goes on and on
i'm not accustomed to defeat it does not suit
me i do not believe i can simply ignore the Ghostbusters
or their allies while i build an army worthy
of a conquest not any longer and this is basically
the last page here and uh... tonight in my thralls
we go to war again something Even when Casey
was under the spell of Chayu, some sort of background
for Chayu would have been better than nothing.
from this is a greater agenda besides the world
domination. And even the battles don't seem to
have high stakes, they don't seem, there's not
much drama with them. And you know, this is their
second battle with Chi -Yu where they shot him
with something and he runs away. They're unremarkable
and what's Chi -Yu's plan after he re -consolidates
or re - reestablishes himself as, I'm gonna go
fight them again. Like really? You think you
should go maybe to, I don't know, Europe or China
and start over there? Yeah, somewhere, something,
something different. Alright folks, number four
for TMNT Ghostbusters we have, the regular cover
is... Jai you the turtles the Ghostbusters all
-out war it looks like they're crossing the streams
people Darn it my issue for Spent a weekend in
the water in the backseat of my car. I need to
buy a new one So here's here's the pages I thought
I thought since it's it's a crossover and I don't
care that much about it that I don't need to
go get a Replacement issue because it's four
dollars. That's that's a lot of money. I think
I might have to No, I'm good I got it I can't
see the ads in the back everything else is fine
uh... how i do you have used doing a galaxy quest
comic all right yes anyway so the main cover
is charlie you the turtles in the ghostbusters
they are there across it looks like they're crossing
the streams the sub cover which is the one that
i have uh... just because the sub cover was on
my comic book uh... shop shelf uh... actually
has slime on the city street or something or
other And it's them looking like they're having
to go into the sewer. Absolutely awesome. That's
a good one. Yeah, fun looking cover. There is
a Hot Topic cover where it's the turtles, it's
Raph and... I don't know who the bad guy is.
Is that Chi -Yu? It's supposed to be, I think.
I'm glad I didn't have to buy that cover. Then
we have the Hastings covers, the four turtles.
It looks like they're the ones crossing the streams,
but it's not because they're all holding their
weapons. But the streams are like right next
to them. Right there, so it's a little strange.
So we get into this one. Our story so far, the
TMNT and the Ghostbusters. are in the ghostbusters
of new york with a limited time to do their uh...
to find their way back to their own dimension
first they must fight the forces of the demon
shy you um... ladies and gentlemen this is kind
of where it goes downhill the art is still fantastic
i absolutely love the art but i i i'm sorry eric
barnum dude generally i love you as a writer
for tmnt And Tom Waltz is a writing genius for
Turtles. He's been writing it for four years
now. But this one just kinda, it... The writing
just seems to wrap everything up too fast. Yeah,
what this felt like to me reading this issue
was that they had these four issues. You know
this book isn't a priority because they're working
on the actual books. That they had the four issue
window, they got... scripted the first three
and then oh man we've got only one more issue
to wrap this up quick we've got to wrap it up
really fast and it's not that they left any loose
ends anywhere it just like hey quick all right
ah hey we won and um it's it's a little heartbreaking
but it's the banter is why we're here it's almost
very heartbreaking honestly um it really really
is and yes the banter is why we are here but
it's just one of those things where you just
you wish there was a little more you know you
just really do um so we have the turtles and
the ghostbusters versus chai you and his thralls
um we have the ecto one Going through a time.
Oh, no, that's the those are the thralls because
they've stopped They stopped the guy. Okay and
We have the containment unit and their solution
is to try to use the containment unit to contain
Chai you Venkman Winston if you re if you read
you we need you upstairs now. We don't have any
packs in you. We're totally exposed up here help
and then Peters like He says something about
the building the building is technically still
in his name Winston so they try to cross the
streams and they eventually do and this pretty
much does stop chayu for the most part and then
they try to use the trap on him which doesn't
really work at first once again amazing art love
the colors love the designs of all the characters
you know They say that, you know, he's not gone
yet. We need one more kick and They eventually
do trap him and that does look amazing the ghost
trap in this looks great it really really does
and This issue kind of reads really really fast
it You know after the battle after they captured
Chai you You know, we have them all saying goodbye.
We have Leo talking with You know Winston and
Again the whole honor thing like you mentioned
earlier and and and Winston being a marine or
else and they kind of exchange gifts I think
he gives him his pet his His stripes and I don't
know if Leo gives him a sword or not. I don't
think he does Well, those are expensive. Egon's
like, time to go. If you wait any longer, I can't
be sure you'll return to the proper dimension.
See your dudes later. And make sure you don't
swat at nothing before we get done, okay? I think
it's Mikey. Master Splinter, my sons, I didn't
hear you come in. Very good. Back to the old
art Well, it didn't just send us back it changed
the way we look again our shells shrunk look
at that At least Mikey doesn't look like Mikey
and Donnie don't have eggheads So I'll give them
that and splinter doesn't look like a dog here
either So that's good And we have We go back
to the Ghostbusters and they kinda, you know,
close it off and it leaves it open, you know,
to, you know, to potentially Chayu coming back.
Um, which, I don't know. The only way I'd want
this character to come back is if he teams up
with Rat King and Kitsune, but I don't think
that's gonna happen. He doesn't even need to
team up with him if he if his goals are somewhat
aligned even if his goals are our chaos that's
fine, but He just he needs to have it he needs
to be tied together more closely with those guys
and Frankly, we need to know who those guys are
I mean, why is Kitsune so concerned to do what
she's doing? What is the Rat King up to? absolutely
um overall folks I enjoyed this but it wasn't
earth -shattering it wasn't the best thing ever
overall I'd give the entire arc maybe a three
and a half out of five and the only reason why
it even gets three and a half is because of all
the comedy with the banter and the introductions
and that kind of stuff but the overall story
it like the art if I was rating it separately
the writing would get a three and a half the
art would probably get a five because the art
whether it's the new artist or the old artist
or whatever it all works very well together but
Overall for the entire thing. I gotta give it
a three and a half out of five. I agree. I think
The story didn't resolve itself well and The
the action scenes were the weak part Yeah, you
know am I am I thankful they did this? Yes. Do
I wish it was a little better in the action department?
Yeah You know, I kind of I kind of wish that
it would have felt like a more of a Ghostbusters
plot with the turtles hanging around. I don't
know, it just seems like, let's shoot at him
until he disappears, solution. But I don't know.
Yeah, that's very true. Um alright folks coming
up next is gonna be the pull bag episode 99 where
Steve and I Steve Megatron I talk about Batman
Beyond 10 ,000 clowns and bad girl beyond Did
you get any feedback from I? Wasn't aware that
that went live yet, so let's go. I didn't even

got attack on technodrome parts three and four

likely. That's a long time away. No feedback
yet, but that's okay. Folks go listen to our
comic Terry on the 1990 Turtles movie where we
celebrated 25 years Joe does point out a lot
of interesting factoids as well as we talk about
the the insult game we talk about Everything
else having to do with that movie how awesome
shredder looks and then we also pretty much I
was I actually was about to say I'm very proud
that we didn't just recite the whole Like word
