About this Episode

TFG1Mike and Jeremy Fein discuss IDW's four-issue Dexter's Laboratory miniseries and find it falls short of expectations. The hosts explore what works—the art and character designs stay faithful to the cartoon—but criticize the pacing, story structure, and reliance on a recycled "It's a Wonderful Life" premise stretched across four issues. They debate what the series could have been, including a potential Mandark-focused storyline, and rate it harshly for squandering the potential of a beloved Cartoon Network property.

Welcome to The Pullback! Join us as we dig on

our latest comics and discuss them with a rotating

panel of the GCRM crew. So sit back and enjoy

this week's Pullback. Hello and welcome to The

Pullback. This is episode 88. Originally episode

88 was going to have some sort of Back to the

Future theme to it, sadly. I was not able to

find the seven issue mini -series based on Back

to the Future from god knows what publisher,

I don't even remember who published it. So we

are going to be talking about IDW's Dexter's

Laboratory four issue mini -series. I am your

host, TF2 on Mic, and joining me is Jeremy Fine.

Hello. Ooh, what does this button do? Yeah. Just

way too creepy as DD, dude. I know. Alls I can

think of now is dress in drag and do the hula.

So this was another one of IDW's miniseries.

Came out... April? 2013, 2014, something like

that. I honestly couldn't tell ya. because it

doesn't have a date here on the UPC, which you

think it would. But anyway, IDW, as we all know,

is notorious for getting licensed properties

and doing really, really well with them. I mean,

they're doing amazing with Turtles. They're doing

really great with the Transformers brand. I've

heard good things with the Ghostbusters comic,

but that's coming to an end and haven't had a

chance to read it just yet. You know, the other

miniseries that we did with Rocky and Bullwinkle,

I thought that they'd knock that out of the park.

I thought that was great. This is a whole other

vial of experimentation. I remember watching

Dexter's Lab as a younger teen, youth, whatever,

but... And I remember enjoying the series, and

I was kind of curious as to what kind of story

they were going to do here. I didn't get what

I was kind of hoping for. I mean, we're going

to go into it here issue by issue, kind of overall

in brief for each issue, but it's one of those

things where after I read all four issues, I

was like, well, that was... To quote the joker,

sadly anti -climactic, I thought we were going

to get something a little bit different when

I first sat down to read this. Sadly, it just

didn't... I mean, the writing history of the

art is great, but I was hoping for something

more. What about you? What's your history with

Dexter's? You know, it's funny. When Cartoon

Network used to have the Oh What a Cartoon show,

they had Dexter's laboratory and they would show

that episode a lot where Dee Dee and Dexter would

fight over their remote and would turn them into

different animals and they didn't remember what

was what anymore at the end because they couldn't

tell each other apart. It kind of remind me of

the Disney movie. What is it? Sword in the Stone

with the wizard's duel. That that that's what

it kind of felt like a callback to but then you

would fast forward to the series and I'm glad

I got picked up and I would watch it a lot in

college and My favorite of course they had a

30 minute episode where they had the exchange

student from Japan and Dexter and his family

had to you know get into like this mechazord

type of robot and the parents found out about

the lab, but I also loved the Monk dial M from

monkey episodes Those are the yeah. Yeah, I mean

dial M from monkey and The just us for it. Let's

see. That's something I want IDW to do. I want

IDW to Do a just us friends miniseries. That

would be awesome. Oh, yeah crunk. I mean even

the macho man Randy Savage guested in an episode,

Rasslar, of all things. You know, it was smart

writing, and there was even a point where the

Powerpuff Girls kind of crossed over with the

Just Us friends. And they made for the Batman

at one point, where it's like a 30 -year -old

guy that was dressed up as a rat living in the

sewers, and they were kind of like, we don't

get the origin. Everything was tongue -in -cheek.

Dexter's Lab itself, I mean, it had a great voice

cast. It had great animation for its time. It

was different. It had a great ending theme. It

had some memorable episodes and it also had Eddie

Deason as Mandark and I remember coming home

from work because I had a graveyard shift and

they would repeat Dexter's a couple years ago

at like one two o 'clock in the morning and they

showed one of my favorite Mandark episodes where

he's surfing he's trying to meet up with you

know, because he's pining for Dee Dee and Just

felt that when I was reading this comic and there

is a movie out there where we see Dexter He meets

up with his future selves Because Mad Dark has

taken and I was hoping they were gonna do something

with that this one feels something like out of

R. O Steins Goosebumps It doesn't even feel like

that that this this comic series first of all

You know Let me just run down the creative team

on here. You've got Derek Friedolfs on writing.

You've got Ryan Jampole. I assume that's how

you say his name. Oh, I'm J -A -M -P -O -L -E.

Maybe the J is silent yampole, and that just

sounds really, really weird. Who wants to have

yampoles at Thanksgiving? Jeremy Caldwell is

the colorist. The letter is Tom B. Long, and

the editor is Sarah. Gados Wow, that sounds like

That sounds like a planet the Power Rangers were

on in 1995 the planet of Fados Actually, it was

was a kaiju. Oh Okay. Well anyway You know, so

those are the those the people working on this

series and they all do a very Good job with the

characters and the characterization, you know

It's kind of hard to screw up Dexter and Dee

Dee fighting as brother and sister. It's kind

of hard to not throw in there, you know, Dee

Dee. Oh, what does this button do? And, you know,

the constant brother and sister battle. But this

felt like. It. It felt like they wanted it to

matter, they wanted to make something really

cool out of it, but they just ended up making

another. This felt like taking. Four episodes

of the cartoon, and making it one whole plot,

but instead of giving you, what was the Dexter

cartoon, 11 minutes? This cartoon would be anywhere

between seven and 11 minutes, and this kind of

felt something almost like a Bazooka Joe comic,

or if you... got your hands on the original Archie

comics and you know in between the Archie comics

they would have like a four or five panel comic

or this almost felt like something that out of

the back of a cereal box where they would have

a Dexter's comic this this felt like they didn't

know how to expand a Dexter Dee Dee scuffle I

mean we we know that Dee Dee is She's pure energy.

She's positive energy. She just doesn't know

how to handle and Dexter, of course He's the

brainchild and and he's all about you know, she's

chaos he isn't and he's just trying to invent

God knows what and trying to hide his lab from

his parents house and Didi just comes in and

she starts dancing and she destroys the lab and

his robots are thrown into like this. I don't

know this treasure chest of or or this containment

unit of all the damaged weapons and Anytime he

puts on a suit or anytime he tries to play with

chemicals She just jumps from behind and goes

hey Dexter and everything goes boom It's okay

in a cartoon, but in a comic especially the first

issue this could have been a motion comic I just

felt like I'm trying to listen to the voice actors

while Dexter's trying to do something Mm -hmm,

and it's no pain. It's it's it. There's no pacing

Yeah, the pacing is all off But again what this

turns into is Dexter and again, so the original

cartoons I mean Dexter was a 22 minutes not kind

of commercials 22 minute 23 minute cartoon series

they would usually have like one Dexter, one

of either Dylan from Monkey or Just Us Friends,

and then a second Dexter. This basically is these

creators working for IDW saying, hey, look, we're

going to take a seven minute premise. and spread

it out over five, six, seven, eight months of

time. Even though I waited, ladies and gentlemen,

I bought these four comics after they had all

already been released. I wasn't buying these

as they came out. I just let them sit in my pull

list or my pull bag at my comic shop, and I bought

them so we could specifically do this episode

of the podcast. And even though I read them in

succession, I just felt like this was... Say,

you know a Number of different, you know car

it felt like a 30 -minute cartoon that took nine

months Real it's what it really feels like Honestly,

the the most positive thing I can say about this

is the art because they get the They get the

the designs on Dexter and DD right they get the

backgrounds right they get the lab right By the

middle of the middle close to the end of the

first issue Dexter you know goes through and

sees all his failed experiments because of DD

and he gets this whole idea of You know, let

me create my dream change urinator or whatever

the hell it is and I'm going to dream of a world

without DD and and this entire four issue miniseries

is like a life lesson is really what it is it's

like okay so yeah sure this person is annoying

in my life but what would my life be like without

it's one of those stories what would my life

be like without them and here's the thing there

was an episode on dexter where he turned dd into

a boy he figured if he had a brother it would

be better because he figured he'd have a scientific

brother and not a chaotic sister. And unfortunately,

he didn't really go through all the specifics,

and he turns Dee Dee into a jock. Because once

again, Dee Dee is still older than Dexter, so

the brother's gonna be older, but the brother's

a jock, and all he does is spend most of the

time beating up Dexter. And that's kind of funny

because that's 11 minutes. But this wishing eater,

I mean, the helmet again is just like this, you

know, pot with the light bulb on top. And we've

seen that prop before. And again, this is just

another it's a wonderful life. And. Yeah, you

can never get past the title I'm surprised anybody

got past a few a couple pages the only thing

I can think of is that they tried to bring back

fans of people Because Cartoon Network is really

not showing the show anymore as far as I know

it's showing on Boomerang a few times a day I

think it shows at like three or four in the morning

on Boomerang and stuff like that, but Yeah, I

mean Cartoon Network proper is not showing the

show and you know, I'm all for them trying to

give The fans give us what we want but Like I

mean this first issue it was all right. It sets

everything up But it's nothing special the second

issue we open that up and we see because the

first issue ends on the Dreamcatcher working

and we see the little Balls or blades of light

coming out of Dexter's room heading towards GD's

room You know when issue two starts and we wake

up and we see Dexter kind of going through life

and whatever else and talks to his mom talks

to his dad And come to find out they never had

a daughter he doesn't have a sister so it worked

and Apparently where her room used to be Her

room is gone replaced with this infernal closet

a fine trick dear sister only to distract me

from Only to distract me from of course that's

doesn't sound doesn't read right in my head anyway

So he comes to realize that he is an only child

And again, we've seen this in the series. We've

seen There was an episode of Dexter where I don't

think it was the exchange student. It was, um,

they were in the grocery store. Oh yeah, they

switched. Yeah. Yeah. And then they switched.

So they've done this story before. Okay. Not

this exact story, but they've done this standard.

plot before. Yeah, I mean, this was something

that of all the ideas they could have come up

with. I know there's supposedly a crossover with

all these characters, I think with Samurai Jack.

Yeah, Super Secret War, Super Secret Cartoon

Network. It's an IDW mini -series. Super Secret

Crisis War, that's what it is. Yeah, I mean,

they could, I mean... They could have done something

like that. They could have brought back Blue

Falcon because he was in an episode of Dexter.

I mean, we could have had another continuation

with Mandark, anything, but this is - That's

what I wanted, honestly. After I read these four

issues, that's what I was originally expecting

them to do. To do four issues of a buildup between

Dexter versus Mandark in the fourth and final

issue. and when they bring in Mandark at the

end of this it doesn't like I can't even hear

the voice actors voice in my they make Mandark

is not that stupid he's not that stupid that

he would think that the the the dream catcher

thingamajig is is a friggin bull for mixing whatever

the hell You know why because if you said if

it is a miniseries there, you know, they don't

want to keep it open -ending They just want to

say okay. It's over with the end. The other thing

I didn't like I mean it's supposed to be a kids

comic I understand but it's like Dexter's walking

around wondering what happened to Dee Dee and

the parents are like Dee Dee and I love the father

because the father's like Dee Dee is like Oh

I before C except after E or something like that

and Dexter's like no, where is my sister? Where's

Dee Dee? And the father's like, well, it's not

like we shouldn't try to make another kid. Yeah.

I mean, even for a kid's comic. Yeah, I remember

reading Alf comics. And yeah, because, you know,

the wife was pregnant on the show, so they made

it pregnant in the comics. But that's OK, because

it's continuity and it kind of explained it.

But here, the way that it's done is just like

too creepy for words. and but then again I mean

on the show they had something where Dexter I

think disguised himself as a mombot and the father

came behind the mombot and pinched her in the

behind so this is like yeah Dexter is wondering

what happened to Dee Dee like you said her room

is a closet he thinks he sees her but it's just

like the broom and the two light bulbs we've

seen that gag so many times where we think it's

something else and then Okay, he's doing his

experiments, he's getting everything done, and

then his life again is, what do we know, but

it's empty because... D .V.'s not there. Right,

right, and then we get a really interesting panel

on alternate universes, at least I thought, and

we do have Monkey as a cameo where he's Dexter

and Dexter's in a cage. The best part about this

is that this is where they should have taken

this instead of going to DD land. They should

have expanded on. My most hated rival is taking

over the city. Cancel that station, Mayor Dark.

They should have made Mayor Dark more prominent

in this series. I know. And then of course we

get Samurai Jack, of course. And he says, I have

no idea what a strange dimension, but it looks

cool because, you know, that was, uh, Turek's

next project. But yeah, I mean, of course we

get mom and dad robots, but no, we, we get it

where he goes to the, here's the other thing

too, about going to this dimension. Dom Del Weese,

I believe played a character that was in the

show called... Kwanza Kusi or something. And

I was hoping he would, I mean, I know Dumdil

Weez is long past, which is, you know, a shame,

but it would have been great to put the character

in this series. We get nothing, but it just bunnies

and flowers and that's where Dee Dee is where

she's a princess. Yeah, she's the queen of all

Dee Dee land or whatever. So we get to the third

issue and Dexter is in this land and apparently

science is is illegal in this place and Mimi

and Lily capture him and take him to Queen Dee

Dee and It just They remind me of the Omira's

if you remember that episode on Tiny Tunes where

they all look the same I had forgotten about

the other two, you know DD clones Mimi and Lili

like how an original that is but yeah It's it's

nothing new with them and it's nothing really

new like okay They're kind of like the powerpuff

girls because they're wearing different ballerina

outfits once purple ones green and DD is pink

So that's also kind of like a callback to Powerpuff.

But one's Chinese, one's black, one's American.

They all have the different names except N's

and E. But other than that, there's no real true...

I was hoping there would be something between

Li Li and Mimi to... Tell them apart other than

their you know their race, but there's nothing

and What's even worse is that the other Didi

clones again? There's nothing to them except

that they're just like pink and wearing ballerina

costumes that just disturbing And we come to

find out that when Dexter Erased Didi from his

life and sent her to the because essentially

he sent her to this place uh... she uh... dethroned

the original princess and that person meets up

with dexter and says hey i'm the real princess

of this land and when didi took over i kinda

had to hit the bricks and blah blah blah help

me get my land back and you can have your sister

back and it's just one giant scrid it's one giant

lesson of hey you should really you know take

advantage of the people that you care about,

not take advantage in a bad way, but take advantage

of the time you have with the people that you

care about because, you know, even though they

can be annoying to you at certain points in your

life, you still love them and cherish them and

whatever else. Again, issues two and three, I

haven't mentioned this, but issues two and three,

I do still like the art. I wasn't, after issue

one, I was not expecting... Jam pole to do anything

like Extremely different from what the cartoon

series was as far as the art style You know,

you would think that they would do something

completely different But I understand what this

is going for IDW wanted this to kind of like

you said recapture the fans of the cartoon series

So issue four Pretty much is you know Dee Dee

and Dexter talking to each other and and wanting

to you know go back to he's trying to convince

Dee Dee to go back to you know his world and

the old ways and just being brother and sister

again and it's good I don't want to say that

the best part about this comic series was that

it ended but I mean The end is almost the best

thing about it. Well, with one exception, the

final page. Oh my god. I'm sorry. Mandark is

not that stupid. Not only is he not that stupid,

but I will say one thing though about issue four.

I like the cover. The cover is interesting because

I love that this is a great wallpaper because

it's Dexter. He's hanging. I guess by licorice,

by red vines, and beneath them it's not love,

I guess it's melted peppermint candy, and you

have all these stuffed animals that are just

like waiting to dip them in. That's pretty cool.

But other than that though, it's Dee Dee apparently

all along knew that she was banished to this

universe, and she's kind of like, well, Dexter,

I knew that you really missed me, and Dexter

was always just upset because he couldn't dance.

That's what it came down to. is that Dexter was

not upset that DeeDee danced in his room in the

stories of Vengeance. He just didn't know how

to dance and that's what they do. And Mandark,

you're right. He picks it up and by that, you

know, the prop to the alternate dimension machine.

You're right. He uses it to make cookies and

he doesn't understand. He makes the worst cookies

ever and he destroys it and it goes D E N D.

I think the reason... For this why they made

him stupid is because it needed to be filler

like they had to have two pages So they dumbed

him down because either people forgot about Mandark

or they just wanted to we you know We work on

him. I don't know what it is, but I am not impressed

with what they did with Mandark in this if this

series had been like If the first two issues

of this series had been a story about how Mandark

is in love with Dee Dee and it was maybe an alternate

dimension where Dee Dee and Mandark were together

or something like that and then the final two

issues where Dexter had to save Dee Dee from

his nemesis in some sort of all -out battle that

would have been a better comic than what we got

here because basically this entire four issue

series is as I've said in the last almost 25

minutes of this podcast, all's it is is a life

lesson about, you know, appreciate the ones you

love. you know, understand that you can't always,

you know, do away with people that are annoying.

I mean, you can block them on Twitter and Facebook,

whatever else, but still. You know, it's just

one of those things where I wanted something

completely different from what we got in this

series. You know, this cartoon has been around

for years. It's memorable. Everybody loves it.

They can quote some lines here or there, or they

try to do, you know, the German accent that's...

I remember Cartoon Network used to have these

live action cartoons where people would dress

up like Dexter or the Powerpuff Girls. To me,

that was memorable. But here are three gigantic

problems. One, they took a dead horse and they

took... from three other episodes as we said

the one where the families are in the supermarket

and Dexter goes to the intelligent family and

the intelligent Dexter goes with you know his

family right right and and then of course we

have the one where um DD is trying to show Dexter

how to you know promote his wild side and unfortunately

Dexter becomes DD and he accidentally destroys

the lab and DeeDee says you become too chaotic

and Dexter has to rebuild the lab. And then,

of course, we have there's another one as well

with time travel. And the point being is that

It would have worked as an 11 -minute cartoon.

If you're trying to bring back this series, this

is not the way to do it. I will give it one thing,

though. The artwork, I love the cover of Issue

4, as I said, but as for all the other artwork

with the castle, you know, the colors are the

colors and the backgrounds of the TV show. That's

great. But we don't really get much of the land

or the bedrooms. Everything is so tight. You

know, there are too many tight panels that we're

getting too many close -up shots that we're not

getting too many... Everything's bright when

it has to be, and everything's trying to be in

shadow when it's supposed to be, but it's not

for fans that grew up watching the show. And

as with the design of the princess that was overthrown,

I... You know, for some reason I feel I've seen

this character before in one of these episodes.

I think when they did Dungeons & Dragons episode,

I think, uh, Dee Dee tried to play her as the

fairy princess. Other than that, I was hoping

there would be more conflict with Dee Dee and

Lee Lee, but no, this is just, like you said,

it's a wonderful life, and it's not, and, you

know, if this is the best they can do, then,

you know, it's time to put this one in the landfill.

Yeah, I mean this is gonna appeal to some fans

of Dexter and I am a fan of the show For me I

when I was getting this at my comic shop I made

sure that because I wasn't sure what they were

gonna be I just knew that they were gonna have

them I made sure that I got the sub covers the

sub covers are all right My two favorites are

issue one and issue four for the subscription

covers issue four subscription cover is Dexter

Looking through a portal that kind of resembles

Dee Dee's body to go into the other dimension

inside his lab. In issue one's subscription cover

is Dee Dee holding a vial or a flask or whatever

you want to call it. One of the bottles and Dexter

is inside the bottle. I think that's honestly

my favorite cover is Dee Dee holding the bottle

with Dexter inside of it. That's kind of awesome.

The artwork is, like we said, it's good. It fits

the show. It fits the characters. but it doesn't

take any chances. It doesn't, it, I mean, I guess

you could say with IDW doing stuff like this

for Cartoon Network or of Cartoon Network characters,

you might not want them to take a chances or

a risk with the art style. And I like it for

the most part, but I just, honestly, what it

boils down to is the story and the story just

so did not do it for me. So it just. Wasn't what

I thought it was gonna be and I'm kind of glad

that I wasn't waiting because I guarantee you

if I had read The first issue when it first got

released. I probably wouldn't have read the other

three issues. I would have said screw it. I'm

done Go ahead we're gonna say the only thing

I can say is is that I'm hoping that Powerpuff

or Cow and Chicken or Samurai Jack are a little

bit better. I have not read the crossover. I'd

like to see what that's all about. I'm hoping

that it has a better story arc to it. I don't

even know how to rate this one. I mean, other

than the fact that I like the design on the cover

for issue four, I... This gets a star. And that's

me generous. Yeah, I'm gonna give it two stars

which is disliked it on the G CR and Universal

rating system Cuz honestly what I dislike about

it is the story. I wish that like If people want

a it's a wonderful life type story go watch.

It's a wonderful life We don't need it anywhere

else and I still can't get past the title Well,

there's a tiny tunes episode that has a wonderful

life, which is pretty good That's only 22 minutes.

Well, yeah, but that's tiny tunes and, you know,

what I'm saying is like, nowadays, in current

times, you know, it's like, there's, and I don't

know, it's just, the series wasn't what I expected

it to be or wasn't what I was hoping for, sadly,

and two stars is the best that I can give it

because I just can't say. That that I enjoyed

this So that's gonna do it for us here in the

pull bag. This is probably the shortest episode

we've ever done As I said in episode 87 I believe

it was As I said in that episode coming up. We've

got Let's see coming up. What do we got? We got?

We've got this episode, we've got the Giant Size

Top 20 Favorite Comic Series and Top 20 Favorite

Comic Issues. We've got Giant Size Episode 91

-92 where JT and Steve and I are going to be

doing Top 20 Favorite Comic Writers and Top 20

Favorite Comic Artists. Masters of the Universe

2013 Ongoing Issues 7 -12. I think JT and I are

going to be doing an image book in Giant Size,

episode 94 -95, which is the Chew volumes 1 and

2 from John Layman. So that's what's going on

there. That'll take us through the third out

of five weeks in October. I also have Angel's

Smile Time, IDW's adaptation of that. Steve and

I will be doing Batman Beyond 10 ,000 Clowns

and Batgirl Beyond later this month. We were

going to do Gotham Central this month, but I

just haven't had the chance to pick it up and

take a look at it, so that's been delayed. Anything

else you want to pimp up before I close it out?

Well, Wyatt and I are going to be finishing up

Mothra Month with Ghidra and Rebirth of Mothra

3, and for Howl Week, we're going to be telling

some Joker stories because, you know, what's

scarier than a clown? So we got some good ones

where we're doing killing joke. We're doing mad

love We're also gonna be doing the Joker the

man who laughs and of course the Joker graphic

novels so for how a week that'll be pretty good

and then you know for New years we're doing a

Ghostbusters 2 so Alrighty then alright, so make

your greatest game in the comics, and we will

catch you next time yourselves, you can find

me at the magazine rack. I'm telling you, the

left one is proportionately larger than the right.

Well, it's a good thing I brought my fresh produce

volume indicator. Hold them up. Let's see. Take

the square of the hot pot noose, multiply the

circumference over radius cubed. According to

my calculations, the left one is indeed larger

than the right. Than the left one it is. Celebrate.

Dexter, if you're not going to participate seriously

in the science of shopping, then go wait for

us at the magazine rack. It's amazing how the

gene pool always deals you a wild card. Time

to go, Dexter! Time to go, Dexter. What the?

Help! Help! I have been kidnapped! Help! Got

the fireman! Well, who put this stupid computer

in my way? What? X -2000 supercomputer with dual

-modulating sequences. What? Charts and graphs

showing the ebb and flow of laboratory output.

Who? A fleet of highly specialized robotic lifeforms.

Dextor, how many times have I told you no? What

has gotten into you, son? Now, Dexter, I know

how much you hate it, but it's now time in the

schedule for your keyboard stroke practice. Hate

it? What are you, crazy? Interruption, Dextor.

Mommy, I hurt my little finger. Would you kiss

it and make it feel better? You need to have

the joint reset, the wound sterilized, stabilized,

cauterized, and wrapped to keep out infection.

Kisses cannot do that. Think a sweet to snack

on? No, no, Dexter. This is pamphlet reading

hour. And besides, no sweets. You know you're

hyperactive. I'm tired of reading pamphlets.

Can't I go watch action Hank on TV? No, Dexter.

You still have 57 minutes of pamphlet reading

left. Davey, Davey, Davey, Davey, Davey, Davey!

Ah, bedtime. Now to wait for my new dad to come

and talk me in and read me a bedtime story. And

then Goldilocks said, this one is just right.

Story! Story! Story! Story! Story! Next door,

it's morning nutrient intake period. Oh, yeah.

Oh, what the heck is this? Partially dehydrated

soybean curd, reconstituted wheat germ extract,

all your daily vitamins and minerals, and easy

to swallow capsules of chewable juice. Enjoy.

That one's actually your lunch. Lunch? I'll show

you lunch! Now, I don't mean to be insubordinate.

The schedule? A man needs moderate allotments

of mind -wrotting television, a bedtime story

before being tucked into bed, and most importantly,

food that is prepared with love and tenderness,

not some freeze -dried and vacuum -sealed thingy.

A kid needs that like a kid not adhered to a

strict schedule. That's nice, Dexter, but thanks

to your father's quick thinking, we're only off

schedule five minutes. Hey, girl! You've just
