About this Episode

Mike and JT dig into issues #8 through #11 of TMNT New Animated Adventures from IDW, covering stories featuring the Rat King, Monkey Brains, Metalhead's rampage, Valentine's Day chaos with Mikey, a frantic pizza run through the city, and the Krang's disastrous cooking experiment. The hosts discuss art styles, character voices from the animated series, and the shift to shorter Archie-style story formats.

Hi, this is Bobby Kernow, Chief Turtle Editor

at IDW Publishing, and you are listening to The

Pull Bag's TMNT New Animated Adventures coverage

with Mike and JC Turtle Power. Welcome to The

Pull Bag. Join us as we dig out our latest comics

and discuss them with a rotating panel of the

GCRN crew. So sit back and enjoy this week's

Pull Bag. oh yeah Michelangelo is on the move

you know what to do i'm here i'm there i could

be anywhere how do you stop what you can't even

see like that good one leo Welcome to the pull

bag. This is episode 79 and bat month is over.

Hallelujah God So far this month here in June

in the pull bag. We've had Joe Reed and I did

the IDW volume 5 and micro series volume 2 part

2 of their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles main

ongoing And he and I also interviewed the editor

of the Turtles books. He's one of the senior

editors over at IDW, so I'm sure he does more

than just Turtles. And he told us that he does

more than just Turtles. Bobby Kernhouse, so we

talked with him, and now it's up to JT and I

to go on some new animated adventures. Yay! I

guess. I don't know, I'm not... This might be

the first time ever that I give low scores on

anything because I just I Don't know if it's

the art if it's the story if it's the fact that

I don't care about a certain number of characters

that they're using in these things And the format

change oh my god, so you just can't be happy

can you? No, because then we wouldn't have a

show So, alright, as I said, GDH Union Turtles

New Animated Adventures, numbers 8 through 11.

For number 8, the main cover is the turtles surrounded

by rats and the Wicked Witch of the West. No,

that's the Rat King. No, that's the Wicked Witch

of the West, because... He's got a green face.

I don't remember him having a green face before.

That's the Wicked Witch of the West. Oh, artistic

license. Or you can get the alternate cover where

it truly does look like the Wicked Witch of the

West and we also get a cameo by Monkey Brains.

So this one starts out with Mikey... Basically

praising mr. Murakami for ramen noodle pizza

Seriously some of the stuff that he's come up

with in the show I would gladly try Because it

honestly it sounds delicious like was the first

time they went to Murakami shop in the show they

had pizza dumplings Mm -hmm. Oh those would be

so good and to get the before I forget about

this to get the The staff out of the way. We've

got Kenny Byerly on the writing Darry over as

well on the art other of the hollers Wow colors

by Heather Breckle letters by Sean Lee and the

edits are done by Bobby Kernau So they're coming

out of the shop and You know This is Mike. He's

like we should eat here more often and refs like

yeah April Do you know any other conveniently

blind restaurant owners? Yeah, she'll have to

check online and apparently Donnie didn't realize

that it was a joke. This is so awkward Like but

this is exactly what Donnie does in the show.

He opens his mouth and inserts his foot But in

the show, because it's Rob's voice, like, I cannot

even hear Rob's voice coming out of Donnie with

this lie. I just can't. I can't envision it at

all. It's like Donnie was possessed by Tobey

Maguire's Spider -Man and he can't talk his way

out of a friggin' paper bag. You have watched

the episode, or the show, haven't you, Mike?

He talks like this all the time. I know he does,

but it sounds better on the show than it does

in my head. It's called using your imagination.

Yeah, well, my imagination checked out on this

panel. But yeah, so April, you know, it's like

she sensed the disturbance in the forest and

yeah. And then Mike, I love Mikey's response.

It wasn't the Miso fries, was it? Because I eat

a lot of those. You know, she she she waxes poetic

about what Master Splinter says and. Next thing

you know they are awash in the four -legged vermin

Yep With a mysterious man in the shadows who

we all know who it is But sure let's play up

the suspense for just another panel or so and

here. I thought it was Patrick the rat boy from

Batman Beyond Nope It's the present day But yeah,

so you got the rat kings up to no good the materials

in April you know escape up a fire escape and

then april looks like she falls through like

three stories and manages to not die because

she goes through the roof through two separate

floors lands on her feet and yeah they just happen

to land in the same warehouse that the rat king

is currently congregating in yeah that's um completely

I like suspension of disbelief is like forget

it just don't even and then monkey brain shows

up with some headband type thing that uses to

you know basically futz with the rat kings mojo

and then knocks him out and they're of course

you know the turtles conveniently forget that

he doesn't actually talk although for some reason

April has a mind she's got like the you know

Jedi mind meld going on oh my god I don't think

any of the turtles could be Batman but technically

April is either um McGann from Young Justice

or John Jones himself holy crap yes in addition

to being if you've watched the show to this point

folks She is part alien, immune to mutagen, and

is completely oblivious to the fact that Donnie

is in love with her. But that's kind of besides

the point. What's really important is that she

has psychic powers now, because reasons. And

we we go to one part of the panel. I absolutely

love I love Mikey. Hey, maybe it'll turn out

you can grant wishes She's not a genie Mikey

now all as I can think of is a turtles parody

of I dream of Jeannie You are a sad strange little

man Although I do like Mikey's come back is like

I know that I was thinking leprechaun. I mean

she's got the red hair It checks out. I was like

Well her last name is own meal so That that's

almost flawless logic for Mikey which is kind

of frightening Exactly. So yeah in addition to

you know For those that don't remember Dr. Rockwell.

He is the mutant known as monkey brains who the

Rat King mutated into a monkey form when he was

experimenting with mutagen and everyone thought

he was just basically uh well constantly ape

crap crazy turns out he is got a abandoned warehouse

lair slash lab where he's created these headbands

and well April and him just have a staring contest

and apparently they're reading minds the whole

time And it's like every other anytime you've

seen this before where one character can psychically

link with another they stare each other for a

minute and apparently it's a whole conversation

and And then it's like she's just basically interpreting

form at this point. It's just expository expository

expository Yeah, yeah, absolutely and Then you

see the rats are Apparently, the Rat King's no

longer knocked out, so he's using his mental

mojo to call his army of rats. And then he starts

talking crap to Monkey Brains, and, well, Monkey

Brains loses his shit. Yeah, he goes ape shit,

is what he does. He is. And then, I do like the

one scene where, you know, after the Rat King's

talking smack, and then the rats come in just

like out of nowhere through the windows like

that, it... That would be such a horrifying image

if this was live action. It's still a horrifying

image here in the comic. But it's kind of cute

and endearing thanks to the art. No, it's not

cute and endearing. It's gross and disgusting.

I mean, you know, I'm just waiting for all these

rats that are coming in from all to have chef

hats on and they all prepare a dish. Oh, don't

hate on ratatouille. Ratafouille is what that

movie should have been called. Oh, we can't be

friends anymore. Oh, please. There have been

much worse things that we disagree on that we

cannot be friends anymore besides Ratafouille.

But it's Patton Oswalt and he's awesome. Don't

give a crap. It's not the it's not the actors

or the actresses or the voices that's the problem

with that movie. It's the entire premise of the

damn movie. Anyway, you're questioning logic

in a Disney film So back to the rest Henry Jones

senior would never survive this No No, he would

not No, but I love this is for the the rat king

breaks his bonds. He of course the headband that

monkey brains was using works for him Not only

does it block his psychic mojo if the rat king

uses it all of a sudden. He's professor friggin

X and He can use now. This would be a truly horrifying

image in a film. He can use his new enhanced

mojo to basically craft racked avatars out of

He basically makes splinter -sized minions out

of the thousands and thousands of rats milling

around in the scene. It's kind of like that first

episode of Gravity Falls, when all the gnomes

join together to become like a mega gnome. This

would just be wrong, well it is wrong on so many

levels. Yeah, what makes it even worse is that

when Rat King... goes to board the thing, like

friggin' Tommy Oliver ridin' the outside of Dragonzord.

He adds a damn hat to make the thing look like

himself, which, to me, it makes him look more

Freddy Krueger -ish, if only he had some claws,

because I swear that hat is a Freddy Krueger

hat. Well, yeah, I mean, before we get there,

basically you see that the turtles in April's

escape, they ditch April on a fire escape, and

then they serve the tsunami of rats. yes which

okay this would be a very cool visual it'd be

a very disturbing visual but it would be cool

nonetheless but yeah then you see he goes from

making rat avatars to rat kaijus which looks

oddly enough kind of like clay face and i do

like that he's like i miss my hat and all of

a sudden just flop and the yeah and how the rats

are like going three phio from the main head

and defying gravity like geez these things are

well trained maybe they have rocket boosters

who knows yeah so the turtles are like dodging

you know truck size fist from the rat kaiju and

then they well they hey he must have had prototypes

for the headband we could use them you got to

have special powers to use them why let's grab

april Sure why you know flawless logic really?

Yeah, I I do like Ronnie singer she's like April's

like I don't even know what my powers are and

I definitely can't do them on command Oh, come

on. You did great communicating with Rockwell

besides. We don't have another option Yeah, that's

so true so basically they go to the fight April

gets jacked by the Kaiju and they fight to get

her back and I do like the scene where uh Leo

and Mikey have gotten the shell raiser and they're

firing cannonball or the garbage balls through

and they're like basically you know it's eat

garbage ratzilla actually Mikey I think the rats

would probably like that so they go ramming speed

and the I do like the uh wide page spread if

you see the Shell razor going up a ramp of rats

and hitting the foot and then crashing which

is kind of reminiscent if you have an iPhone

or an iPad there's TMNT rooftop run. It's a game.

It's it's basically like a running game and Some

parts of the game you get to drive the shell

razor down the street dodging potholes and stuff

is kind of reminiscent of that So basically the

Rat King starts gloating and all of a sudden

April performs a spirit bomb from inside the

rat kaiju. There's a whole lot of squeaking sound

effects. I'm surprised there isn't a few splats.

So they go and they're fighting the rat king

again and the monkey brain comes out of the rat

kaiju, kind of forgot about him for a second,

grabs the dingus off a rat king and then him

and April team up to... use their Jedi mind powers

to knock out the Rat King who is then absorbed

into a pile of rats and disappears. Which is

just slightly creepy. And then, you know, Leo's

like, uh, thanks for helping us monkey brain

- or, you know, doc - well, he doesn't call him

Dr. Rock, but he thanks him for helping him.

And then Mikey's like, jeez, yeah, thanks for

getting our backs, monkey brains, and then...

The monkey brains almost loses his shit on Mikey.

He's like not a fan. Give it time. It'll grow

on you So, oh this for that this is the I think

out of the four we're talking about today, this

is the Number eight number eleven. I think they're

the ones with issue long stories And it's not

a bad one I could see this being an episode of

the of the show and Well, it would be really

kind of gross and icky. I would like to remind

our listeners that they did an episode where

Baxter Stockman becomes Baxter Fly, and it's

basically Jeff Goldblum, the fly, sort of. Yeah,

but that's awesome, whereas rats are just icky,

gross, and disgusting. Well, I'm not saying it's

not awesome. the episode just saying you know

if they're gonna do an episode where you you

see a man forcibly mutated a human fly and this

scene where he mutates and everything is reminiscent

of the jeff goldblum fly movie you could see

this being a show so i mean anytime the rat king

shows up there's tidal waves of rats which is

just like yeah very true very true It's um yeah,

it's not very cool at all So yeah, this is an

issue. Wow. This is the Holy crap. I didn't realize

that this was So two out of the four are issue

long is the other two are double whites great

So issue number nine the cover The turtles are

chasing poor metalhead. It's, you know, done

by, uh, Brazella. Yeah. For the regular cover,

the, uh, incentive cover is done by John Sumariva.

Sumariva, yeah. Yeah. Um, slightly more animated,

or, oh, not animated, but more, uh, animais,

I guess. It's an all -around decent cover. It's

basically a group shot. It doesn't I'm kind of

getting sick of the retail incentives not being

something really cool Yeah, and then I mean like

like the main cover We'll talk about the convention

exclusive in a minute But the main cover is cool

because they're chasing metalhead the retail

incentive cover is just a group shot of them

And then the cover RE Kids' Choice Awards art

by Chad Thomas Colors by Heather Breckle. The

turtles get slimed. Because it's Nickelodeon

and it has Kids' Choice Awards. The turtles get

slimed. Well, why not? I mean, they could have

slimed the rock the one year, but they wisely

decided not to. I would have loved to have seen

that. Yeah, just the rock standing there smiling

is like I don't know why Yeah, but yeah, so you

got like you said I think out of the three like

the kids choice one is pretty sweet and the alternate

is It's decent. You know, it's standard group

shot turtles looking kind of badass But see standard

group shot should be something for the regular

cover or like a retail incentive I don't understand

unless you Unless you sit there and get Eastman

back and get him to draw the 2012 series like

the cartoon turtles Unless you get him to do

that. I don't see the point in a group shot for

a retail incentive cover I just don't it would

take too long and too many brain cells to explain

to you why there are this happens with incentive

covers I know, and we will most definitely get

into some sort of incentive cover after Dark

Discussion at some point, but it's like... I

could see if it was like a special artist or

something, like I said, Eastman or, you know,

whoever. People buy, like, sketch covers so they

can take them to conventions and have an artist,

you know... Well, yeah, I understand that. I

understand that concept of it, but we'll talk

about this later. The story. Donnie is trying

to explain to Raph, who just doesn't give a flying

flip, about what he's doing to Metalhead. In

the story entitled Metalhead Games, we should

mention, because this is the first of the back

-to -back stories we got here. Yeah, issue 9

has two stories in it. So this one is Metalhead

Games. Is that a cross between... I don't think

they're trying to go for a Hunger Games thing.

It's just, that's the name of the title. Oh god,

I was thinking more of like, Disc Wars, but okay.

I don't even know how you get Disc Wars from

that. Metal Games, let the games be... I don't

know, it's some... uh some kind of liquid tron

reference anyway um but yeah donnie's upgrading

the power power supply for metalhead and raf's

less than impressed and donnie loses his shit

and basically just pokes raf right in the mouth

with his staff and then uh i love this exchange

it means take that don't mind if i do and he

took his own post staff and turned it against

him Here, you want it back? Yeah, no. I mean,

you don't hear them, but I hear, like, I definitely

hear Sean Astin's voice in that exchange. No,

yes, you're right. I do. I just didn't hear Rob's

voice in the awkward exchange in the last issue.

Like, the way that, um, that Byerly wrote that

scene, it was too awkward. Like, more awkward

than Donnie is in the show, that's the only time.

No, every other time, yeah, I hear the voices

in my head from the cartoon series, just not

that time. Point big. So, basically, yeah, Donnie

loses his shit, challenges Raph to a duel, you

know, this nerd's gonna kick your ass, and well,

that obviously doesn't happen. And he makes the

comment, you know, intelligence is more important

than strength, and Raph's just like, yeah, right.

So basically something happens that Metalhead

goes berserk again and oh my god No, wait a second.

I'm sorry because we have to go knee -deep in

the hoopla here cuz as soon as I Figured out

that someone hit metalhead in the head. I was

like, oh no They made a hoopy reference from

from The magic hoop episode in Captain N because

Hoopie gets bonked on the head and he goes all

evil. Oh Good lord. I Think I just broke JT's

brain yet again ladies and gentlemen, he didn't

break my brain. It's I Where did metalhead get?

Smacked cuz the lab explodes Donnie goes flying

and the crank of taking control of metalhead

again. I Yeah, but is I could have sworn he has

a head injury in this well, maybe later on but

Right, and I could have like his little antenna

thing. I thought that was where I Don't know

what I could have sworn. He had a head injury

here At some point I guess not I don't know But

anyway too much captain and Mike I know, right?

Thankfully, that shit's almost over. Self -promotion!

So yeah, so Metalhead's been... Well, how do

you know that the Metalhead's been taken over

by the Krang? And are you sure it's the Krang?

It's the ones that are known as the Turtles must

be hitting that which is called their heads.

And again, Nolan North as the Krang. Brilliant!

absolutely phenomenal yeah so metalhead escapes

and the turtles give chase not in the shell raiser

but the detachable I don't even know what they

call like what do they call it the sewer crews

or whatever they're yeah they're they're dead

dune buggy contraption mm -hmm so they fall into

like the museum and then Mikey gets a face full

of metalhead fist and I love Michelangelo when

he says stuff, I wish my fists could do that.

Because you get a little buzzing or Z action

there with Metalhead with the flying fists of

fiery doom. And basically it, the whole thing

it turns out, the whole thing is basically Donnie

screwing with Raph with Metalhead. Yeah, pretty

much. He's basically is like, oh no no no, this

is far from over Raphael. So he's basically constricted

this huge prank which Raph has already tumbled

to, but Raph being the prime dick that he is,

manages to get the remote destroyed, and then

Metalhead goes truly berserk. Yep. And of course

it's all Donnie's fault because it could never

be Raphael's fault, because god forbid he should

take some personal responsibility. Yeah, I don't

know if you're gonna I don't know what your feelings

are on it, and I don't want to go off into a

whole tangent, but Metalhead died in the show

correct Donnie didn't rebuild him. Oh, he's in

the process of rebuilding him I think at least

okay hinted that from the end of the episode

mm -hmm and They never specifically state with

these comics where it's in and around in between

episodes, so this could either be sometime after

Middle head's heroic sacrifice or it could have

been before See to me and I and I know what you're

gonna say to me, but Mike, you know characters

in comics They always die and they always come

back except uncle Ben Uncle Ben and Thomas and

Martha Wayne. That's you know, yeah I Am of the

mind with metalhead now. He should have stayed

dead just like Colson should have stayed dead

lies and blasphemy No, it is not lies and blood

lies and blasphemy No, it's not card. If you

know it's not Phil Coulson, you don't deserve

comics, sir It's not it's not about his carrot

because his character improved like I hated him

in Iron Man I could not stand him. I thought

he you know, he completely we're gonna have a

whole tangent No, it's not about that. I don't

want to see Clark Gregg in that role. It's how

stupid they brought him. I would have loved it

if it was just a damn life model decoy But I

think bringing him back so soon after Avengers

after his supposed death quote -unquote death

in Avengers It just takes away from that moment.

But anyway back to turtles But yeah metalhead

metalhead you know sparks from the eyes and everything

takes off again and Well, it just basically starts

wrecking everything. Pretty much, yeah. And what

follows is... I love Michelangelo's choice of

action. They split the buggy in two with Leo

driving their half. He fires the grappling hook,

which... It shouldn't have worked. Well, it should

or should not have worked. What I find is, you

never know the tensile strength... of anything

Donatello constructs because as rickety as that

dune buggy looks you think that thing would have

fallen apart by now but no the grappling hook

hooks onto the manhole cover shell of metalhead

and so Leo and Mikey get hauled off into the

sky with the greatest of ease yeah and they just

basically get slapped around everything I do

like the one scene where it's almost a Batman

forever reference where I Forget the name of

the building in Times Square where they dropped

the New Year's Eve ball from But did they end

up hanging off the side of that and they basically

were drive up that Before they fall off and I

couldn't help but think of that one scene in

Batman forever. Oh Yeah And the whole time Raph

and Donnie have this back and forth about, you

know, what's better, strength or intelligence.

And finally they decide, you know, enough. They

apologize and we both have our strengths. It's

a bro moment. It's a bromance. Almost. It's not

quite the bromance that Raph and Casey have,

but it's there. But you know, I do like the way

Ross like enough touchy -feely stuff. We've got

brothers to save Yeah You see, you know when

he said that line he sounds just like Leo in

the show quoting that Star Trek crap that he

watches yeah But I do like that. So basically

Rap or Mikey and Leo are still like they throw

out the side of the building there. They had

like five seconds of breathing space and then

they're hauled off by Metalhead again. They eventually,

I do that, they do this again, they drive off

the side of the building and now instead of being

the Batmobile, they've become the Spiderbuggy.

The Spidermobile. And Mikey lets out a booyakasha,

which... You used it already? No, that's the

thing. When they land the second time, he's about

to let another one go. And I love the smile on

Leo's face. He's like, ah, ah, ah. And so I was

like, what, he's only allowed to use it once

per adventure? Come on, man. Back in the 80s,

Michelangelo would shout that incessantly, and

no one said shit. But it was the 80s, and there

wasn't a line that wasn't overused. You know,

like, uh, tin teeth. Used turtles and, uh, all

that. So basically, I was going to say, so basically

Donnie rigs it to run an electric current up

the pole that, you know, for the new year's Eve

ball. And they've tied the grappling hook off

with metalhead and he's shorted out and well,

they black out time square. I was like, Hmm something

gets pitched into the coke sign in Times Square,

and it's blacked out. I wonder if they saw amazing

spider -man 2 Probably They're like hey police

epicop helicopters. Yeah time to go And then

you got you know Carlos, you know Ching whatever

a brera which Couldn't you just done like an

Ann Coulter reference your son said he got this

knob You know, it's like have the aliens returned

back to you Joan and you know splinter drops

the moral of the episode and Reminds them their

dangerous weapon like middlehead must never be

used for pranks and water balloon and Mikey's

just standing there what Dr. Frankenstein is

better than that, sir, but But But Yeah, but

here's the thing. It's not Mike. Oh, well Mikey

has the controller, okay? Yeah, I thought you

meant because Mikey has the balloons in his hands,

but it's because he's yeah He's got the can she's

got the controller from metalhead. Yeah, I like

this story. It's a fun interesting story I guess

for those of you who might not have seen the

cartoon episode where Metalhead heroically sacrifices

himself, it's alright to read. I would not recommend

it for anyone who has seen the episode because

if you're like me, you're gonna feel gypped and

jaded. Even, you know... Why are you gypped and

jaded? It's... These are stories in and around

the episodes. The only confusion should be is

you don't know where this is set But that's the

point of this these stories. See that's the right

and I understand that but that's the problem

with this story Because they know April has her

powers They know about that and she's you know,

they know that she's you know, some weird crang

-a -ma -jang thing and Yet they don't know like

It'd be different in the beginning of this story

if Donnie made reference in some sort of internal

monologue saying, Metalhead died to save us,

I'm going to rebuild him and make him better.

You know, something. And then go from there,

I wouldn't have a problem with it. And it's not

like that one little thing is going to make me

take my grade off the issue. So the next story

is... Raph's Shiner. When I got to the end of

this, I'm like, oh my god, no they didn't. Yeah.

Because Raph basically pulls, because I know

you're going to go into this, but Raph basically

pulls a Ferris Bueller, ladies and gentlemen.

Oh my god. Go ahead. Well, I don't get the Ferris

Bueller. Because Ferris is always trying to get

one over on his parents and his sister Didn't

drawing didn't draw that conclusion at all like

rat Raph is technically making up a story Well,

he's he's probably he's making the story big

and bad so he can't admit to what really happened

But I don't draw Ferris Bueller from that but

that's just me So yeah, I'd like Rafa walks in

the room and he's got this huge goose egg And

he tells his brothers the story. He's essentially

fighting what looks to be This this comics version

of Hun Yeah from the 03 series with some sweet

dragon tattoos. I'm not gonna lie. Oh, yeah,

hun looks great And I do like the like did the

monologue he has the turtle with the red mask

the fiercest of all the turtles I was like, yes,

we get it. Raf is an egomaniac and he's a badass

So of course, you know we're asked ready from

is like yes, he randomly falls into a pile of

trash with a missing canister of ooze and he

mutates in a dragon because comics Yeah I love

how vibrant the art is in this. I do it the more

for the dragon. Mm -hmm No, it's good. I do like

where you know the Leo and Donnie start calling

foul on Raph's story. And Donnie's like, yeah,

it's not like there was any dragon DNA around

to influence the mutation or that Raph's basically...

Stop trying to confuse the issue with facts.

You know what? Who cares? Who cares how it works

anyway? Point is, I was fighting a dragon. A

giant dragon. Yeah. And honestly, it doesn't

look anything like the character. But when you

see him where he more... Hun, let's call him,

morphs into this dragon. The first thing I thought

of was like the warrior dragon from the old Archie

Ninja Turtle series. You know, and that's because

in his debut, he fought a giant, Godzilla -sized

foot soldier that was hidden inside the Empire

State Building or something that looked quite

like it. Why? Because comics. But anyway. Raph's

fighting and the guy rips a phone pole or a power

pole out of the ground. Can you blame me if you

got in a lucky shot? He's swinging a goddamn

telephone pole. You're lucky you didn't end up

a green smear on the side of a wall. Yeah. And

then I like Leo's like, so you got a black guy

from a giant dragon who hit you in the head with

a power pole. And Raph's like, I'm not made of

steel. And he gets into a wrecking ball and he

knocks the dragon out. And I do like, Doddy,

you don't actually think we're stupid enough

to believe that. To which, Mikey gives ample

evidence that he is that stupid. Yeah, no construction

worker's gonna leave his keys in a crane. If

they did, you know, I'd be out driving cranes

right now. And there's a scary kind of logic

to that because Michelangelo would totally do

that He would so totally do that and then April

comes up. Hey guys, did Raph tell you how I landed

a punch on him? When that was revealed like there's

not a lot of moments ladies and gentlemen for

the listeners that comics make my jaw drop Would

say the end of Batman 13 because I thought it

was more gruesome than what it actually had happened

That made my jaw drop a few times in Nightwing

and Batgirl have made my jaw drop Batman Beyond

2 .0 chapter 21 the ending made my jaw drop and

This just a revelation in just sheer humor of

it all the fact that April lands a lands I wouldn't

say my jaw dropped but my eyes definitely kind

of popped open and I read that last bit where

Raph's like, okay have you fun and Once you read

the power where the guys are all concerned and

appreciative that Raph was helping April train

And then you realize that they were what you

expect to happen here has happened Like you know,

it was there but you don't kind of consciously

recognize it That what you expect to be at the

end of the story has actually happened throughout

the story Which I thought was pretty smart You

know, so yeah, we're not gonna make fun of you

for being nice for a change and Donnie's like

they put me to the sparring partner. Where was

I? You were in the lab being a nerd Don we all

know what you do And then Yeah, I mean overall

I was trying to say earlier that the colors the

colors and the art in this one really really

Bright and pop and are kind of pretty awesome.

Oh, yeah So the next one we have Issue number

ten and issue number ten is the return of spider

bites Louis black Yeah Now, I'm gonna say right

now, he's the bet, one of my favorite, him and

Jeffrey Combs as the Rat King are two of my favorite

voice actors. I mean, Danny Trejo is the neutralizer,

but you can't tell because of how they futz with

his voice. It goes without saying that I love

the Feldman as Slash. That just goes without

saying. I love movie Donny as Slash. I really

do. He really sinisterizes Slash up a lot. When

I heard the news that Corey Feldman was going

to have a voice role on the show, I thought they

were going to do some universe -wide expanding

thing. This is the same thing I've said about

the show for a very long time now. I want all

of... I basically want a Turtles Forever for

this series where all of the originals that are

still around come back and do their, whether

it's, you know, Robbie Wriste and Corey Feldman

for Donnie and Mikey from the movies, whether

it's every, you know, all these people. I really,

really do. I was not expecting Corey Feldman

as the voice of Slash, but it is so awesome.

Yeah, I'm just kind of bummed out it's like can

just give make the neutralizers just let it be

daddy trail like let it be machete because that

would be awesome But yeah, but like I said, no,

I love like I'm a huge fan of Lewis Black's comedy

because I just like the angry comic like that

and I did like him in the one episode like very

early it was like third or fourth episode of

the No spider bites was the very first it was

rise of the turtles that was snakeweed wasn't

it? Oh, yeah, you're right Yeah, it's like episode

three or four account specifically which but

yeah, I I was disappointed. He didn't really

see spider bites again until just recently with

episodes 12 and 13 of this series where you find

the crying of like corralled most of the mutants

that we've seen in the show like Kirby bat and

slash and we get our kind of sort of almost maybe

Turtles Forever moment where they're looking

through the different portals and you see the

87 turtles and you know the Jason Voorhees I

mean Casey Jones of that universe but yeah so

it's nice to see spider bites back as I do like

that character the regular cover by Brazella

It's it's standard and it's reminiscent of Turtles

to secret of the use like the poster With like

the positioning of the turtles and the pizza

and all that and it's like all a little bit Yeah,

turn around guys bad guy approaching Mike. He's

like ignore everything else mozzarella The again

we got your standard action group shot pose for

the backup cover Which is done by James Silvani

and Amy Meverson. It's good. I like this a lot

more than that the badass group shot from number

nine, but It's still kind of meh It would make

for a cool poster, but it doesn't you know That's

about it Yeah, I mean like the cover for the

main cover by Brisbane that would make a cool

poster But, like I said, and I keep saying, the

RIs are just not... not incentive enough for

me to go out and attempt to round them up. This

story basically takes place around Valentine's

Day or Valentine's Day and then the day after

Valentine's Day. Love bites. With a Z. Yes. And

a Y because... to uh to paraphrase a meme from

linkara poor literacy is cool yes or grammar

whatever yeah so and it's not mikey's just he's

the sweet innocent baby brother of the family

he is just trying to you know show his love and

appreciation for his bros there is nothing wrong

with that That just some of the ways that he

goes about doing this in the manner in which

he pursues it just I'd probably be annoyed too.

I mean granted Leo really doesn't have anything

to be angry about but the fact that Mikey desecrated

another of Raph's collectible magazines And he

goes into the lab and he wrecks like one of Donnie's

computers and you can see why they're pissed

at him That his heart's in the right place, I

mean come on Well yeah and then he goes out and

well he's getting his Bruce Wayne on you know

he's sitting there and he's brooding on the top

of a building and you know he just sees everyone

else it's all these happy couples and he's like

is it really so wrong to want to show my love

like that like he's kind of having a moment there

and then you see uh stuff carry getting carried

away Yeah, because then he envisions a Krang,

Boo -Berry, and Franken -Berry all having some

sort of love interest with each other. No, it

would be Boo -Berry, Franken -Berry, and Fruit

-Brute. No, that's a Krang. Well, Krang would

be Franken -Berry, Boo -Berry, and then the Sasquatch

would be like... Oh, I thought that was supposed

to be. And I've never had fruit, fruit, fruit,

yummy, mummy or blueberry, but I have had Frankenberry

and Count Chocula. There's a rant there waiting

to happen. That's another day. But clearly, clearly

we've missed something because, you know, that

he's called his brothers, they've come and he

smeared pizza all over himself and created a

tin foil hat. And Mikey is. Now become Fox Mulder.

The Krang, Ghosts, and Bigfoot. Working together,

they'd be unstoppable. You don't believe me?

Why, logic is crystal clear. To which Raph replies,

because there's no logic at all. Mm -hmm, but

of course, you know Donnie is willing to at least

investigate the possibility of crank action which

Makes him the better brother for it at least

in my opinion Well, I mean come on now Raph's

always picking on Mikey I mean very very rarely

does Raph ever give Mikey the benefit of the

doubt. Yeah, I like this so they go down to the

street to investigate and Mikey of course being

the Turtle that he is he picks up random discarded

box of chocolate and starts eating it Which you're

not exactly helping your case here, Michelangelo.

You're just not no No, not at all and they of

course they go into this the restaurant and they

find cobwebs and all of a sudden Don't don't

do spider bites No, so did they go off and They

follow the trail of, you know, green spider webbing

to, you know, abandoned warehouse number 17.

And I swear to God, this is the one from the

Rat King issue and clearly they got the same

contract to rebuild the roof because the turtles

fall right through it. Man, Adam Carolla really

needs to go after that contractor. And one of

the things I love about Spider Bites is how,

like, the guy is so ignorant that he keeps calling

him frogs. He's like, hello, frogs. Who let you

hop out of the swamp? Well, that's part of the

joke. Well, I know, but that's what I love is

that he's ignorant like that. He calls them frogs,

although it does. I still hope and pray that

we get the punk frogs in this show at some point.

No. No, no, no. We've already got Wing Nut and

Kirby Bat. We've got Slash. Yeah, we don't need

the Punk Frogs. Well, we need the Punk Frogs.

We do not need the Punk Frogs. We need the Punk

Frogs, Infinity, plus one, no take backs. We're

done. We do not need the Punk Frogs at all. Oh,

you just don't have a soul, Mike, if you don't

like the Punk Frogs. Come on the shredder actually

did like yeah, that was like his one solid super

villain planted the old cartoon He created the

anti turtles. He had an entire squad of anti

turtle warriors ready to go and Maybe they were

even bigger slackers that the turtles it turns

out is brilliant Yes, so Yeah, well back to the

show the turtles I don't know how strong his

spider bites webs are you know whether they're

like as strong as spider -mans or something but

you know he ensnares the turtles and for once

Mikey being pants on head crazy and we love you

for that Michelangelo don't get me wrong we love

you for being that but Mikey smearing himself

with pizza greases actually allows him to escape

the webs because they're not sticking to him

and spider bites starts monologuing that you

know he's kidnapping people and he's pissed that

you know every all these lovey -dovey couples

are reminding him that he doesn't have you know

miss spider bites in his life and you know he's

just basically gonna make everyone suffer and

I I don't see I don't see yeah I got I hope they

don't ever Spider bites to me he Even though

I know he's not this but he reminds me of Taz

Because now that you say they were that he doesn't

ever miss his spider bites all I can see now

is mrs. Tasmanian devil You're talking about

the actual Tasmanian devil not the one where

Bugs Bunny willingly puts a bear trap in his

mouth Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, little hitching his plant

the one turtle that gets away and I do like that

where Mikey's like I'm greased lightning baby

I love that and then spider bites is all all

of a sudden he's all demoralized and he gets

all like high school teenager mopey seriously

stupid useless mutant spider web it stinks being

me you know and then Mikey of course you know

No one, and only Michelangelo would tumble to

this. He tumbles the idea that Spider Bytes feels

unloved. So he decides to show Spider Bytes love.

And how do you fight a giant mutant spider with

self -esteem issues? You give him a hug. Flawless

logic. Yeah, pretty much. And I do like how he's

like referenced because he is, but we know Spider

Bytes, he's basically an internet troll turned

into a internet trolling mutant spider yeah and

I do like Michelangelo's admit it you look at

the cute kitten photos on the internet as much

as I do right yeah and essentially you know Leo

tells the fact that Mikey is basically drawing

spider bites off so the others can get free and

free the humans and he's like we must follow

Michelangelo's lead and Ralph's like I'm not

bathing in pizza grease And when you think about

it this story could technically take place before

the shellac knee episode Yeah, good good Which

also saw the debut of a Razaar? I am still waiting

for toka. You know what if we can get Razaar

in this cartoon. We can get the punk frogs. Just

saying Just saying I'm just waiting on toka rocksteady

and bebop. Yeah except So Rocksteady and Bebop

might actually be a threat in this cartoon. I

mean, I think... They're a threat in the main

comics, so... Well, they're a threat in the main

comics and somewhat in the Archie comics. But

in the cartoons, I think there was a delayed

effect of the mutation, whereas in after the

initial five episode, you know, first season...

The the mutagen must have affected their brains

because after that they weren't even close to

be a Five -year -old with a blanket could have

taken those two out But anyway, so they Mikey

just keeps going deep down. I think we're in

the sick. We're the same and You know spider

bites just lays them out And nobody's feeling

the love today, yeah So I love how they start

fighting spider bite and They start you know,

they're fighting him with compliments because

as they're kicking his ass They're complimenting

him is like you're the best mutant. We know you're

dashing good looks you're on spiring intellect.

You're sparkling personality and he's just like

positive reinforcement no You're burning my ears

ah Gonna fry me up. Yeah And I can attest to

that because I was like that in high school where

you know negativity was good and positivity positive

Feelings were bad. So I was just like yeah, you're

just lying But the way spider bites reacts is

just really he just loses his shit starts hawking

more He's not even spraying webs now and now

he's just hawking loogies at the turtles Well,

that's what he did in the cartoon series. Well,

yeah but i mean he's gone from firing webs at

them and trying to snare them he's just straight

out spitting and i forget was his spit like acidic

or something yes it was okay yeah because he

basically they they basically pull what robin

aqualad and kid flash did in the first episode

of young justice where you know they the turtles

trick uh blockbuster i mean spider bites to bring

the entire warehouse down on him And I do like

the one civilian comment in that one panel. He's

looking at his date and he's like, so, good first

date, huh? High five? And they go back and again,

it's splinter with the moral for the episode.

You know, it's like it's important to be surrounded

by the people that love and care about you, you

know Not everyone's so fortunate and you see

spider bite going down alley kicking a can I

feel for the guy a little bit because you know,

he's it's not like he asked to be mutated into

a hideous freak like this and You know, maybe

he just needs somebody to love It is a but this

is essentially the Valentine's Day episode that

they never made on TV And then oh wait, it's

uh, Miss McGuffin. I mean April O 'Neil with

a heart -shaped pizza Yeah, but it's kind of

cool. I know that's just a great way to end it

But it's not over. Well this story, you know

I Know this. Oh, yeah, you're right. That is

a completely Wow, they put three stories in this

I Forgot they put three stories in this holy

crap So, I mean, basically, when you think about

it, this series, while it ties into the series,

it's essentially Archie, it's Archie comics style

stories. You know, if these were collected in

like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle double digest,

you know, it would make sense to be in there.

I mean, we're so used to these full length formatted

stories. It's cool. So, you know, we got the

first story with love bites and then we got Sorry,

what's the next one called? Mikey's map Mikey's

map and this one is Who did the art on the second

story? Chad Thomas Yeah, Chad Thomas and he's

got definitely got more of an Archie comic style

thing which is You know, Michelangelo's got a

map. They're tearing ass through NYC and the

shell raiser. And it's like, we're going to be

late. We're going to be late. We got to get there.

We got to get. And Leo's like, what's going on?

Is it the foot, the crank? No time. Emergency.

Left turn. Left turn. And it's literally, you

see the purple dragons are ripping off a pawn

store. And Mikey's like, no, no, no. Keep going.

Keep going. And Donnie's like, hey, we didn't

even have to fight. They just ran off. And Mikey's

like, ignore them! Run through that building!

And, you know, they run into a Krang lab. And

Mikey's like, no, don't stop! And I love the

Krang dialogue because they've basically blown

up a Krang lab and it's like, those that are

known as the turtles have caused that thing that

was not meant to explode to explode. Krang is

thinking that Krang should be doing what is called

running. And just the way that Craig's got his

hands up in the air, he's like, screw this, I'm

out. And Mikey's like, left, left, right. It's

almost like he's trying to give it up directions

that sound like the Konami code. Yeah. Left,

right, left, right, up, down, up, down, A, B,

A, B, start. Yeah. And then you see, well, maybe

Ra'sar isn't just... isn't completely evil and

a hideously deformed freak. He enjoys what appears

to be... mint chocolate chip ice cream. Yeah,

he's um... This is like by far one of the weirdest

images, and that's saying a lot that I've seen

in this series so far. But to see this bony,

zombie -esque, werewolf mutant bopping down the

street, humming a tune, and enjoying a double

scoop ice cream cone. Razor's design in this

is absolutely hideous. Well, it's hideous at

the show too, but I get your point. But in the

show, in the show it looks really cool hideous.

This looks like a shaved yak with bones protruding

out of its, you know, just, it looks like you

took Ahmed the dead terrorist, took, pulled his

head off, put a wolf's head on him, and then

patched a bunch of hair on his, on his bones.

Oh my God, this is horrible. Yeah, it works better

in animation. And he's like, TURTLES! You know,

getting his Doctor Doom on there. As they splash

him, and his ice cream cone's gone kaput, and

he's pissed, and finally they pull up in front

of Gino's pizza, and it turns out this entire

mad dash through the city was in order to get

to the best pizza in the world, or so it says

on their website, before, and of course as soon

as Mikey turns around, click, they're closed.

You get I love the you know pissed off flame

in the background thing that you do this in the

show several times Pretty well captured here

in this last panel you see you Marty grow heads

on the brothers Yeah, pretty much He's like I

told you we need to hurry and then they of course,

you know Inadvertently Mikey has been a colossal

dick So one good screw deserves another, and

they take off in the shell raiser, leaving Mikey

hopelessly lost in NYC. Yeah, but you would think,

though, that he would just go down into the sewers

and then find his way back. Oh, I think he would.

I mean, it's just they're pissed at him. They're

like, screw that. You're walking home, Mike.

But that last panel where he's like, fine, I

can walk. I've got this map, stuff like down.

I got to make a left at 12th, or is that a right

at six? Honestly expected him to say a laugh

turn at Albuquerque Avenue or something. No,

no, no, no, they could have done that But yeah,

I mean, I mean, I mean that's like every time

that they have a pizza delivered I really want

the one twenty two and an eighth reference one

twenty two and an eighth Wait, when the heck

is one twenty two and an eighth? You're standing

on it, dude. Just slip it down here Yeah, actually

and they cut it wasn't exactly that scene But

in one of the last episodes they had before they

went on their break here was the pizza face episode.

Yeah, that's where I was expecting it to happen,

and it didn't happen, dammit. I still like that.

Oh, at Mario's, the first pizza is always free.

How many times can I order the first one? Oh,

Michelangelo, don't ever change. okay let's talk

of since you brought it up let's talk about pizza

face for a little bit uh... free be and it is

but yes yes creepy but as soon as i saw the episode

and i saw the episode title i'd like somebody

so needs to Parody and we're oh, yeah, we're

now get on this pizza face is a parody of poker

face by lady gag me Somebody needs to create

lyrics based on poker face for beats of face

Honestly, I didn't think of that right away when

I saw pizza face The first thing we go through

my head is it's pizza the Hut Yeah, that yeah,

yeah It's just the name the title pizza faces

I'm just looking it up here on the wiki for because

I thought I recognized the pizza face voice I

Mean it took me forever though the I didn't know

until I read online that crying prime is actually

voiced by Roseanne bar Yeah, you didn't know

that well. I didn't catch it right away, and

I was like there you go Yes, yeah Danny Trio's

neutralizer chrome dome. Oh that was the the

footbot ninja that was nolan north yeah no it's

it's jake the dog and bender bending rodriguez

himself john dimaggio is antonio slash pizza

face yeah although that entire episode is it

may or may not be a dream just yeah just in the

way that it ends you know because You know, you

think Michelangelo just had the dream but then

you got the talking pizza slice and I was like

and basically Michelangelo ate a living being

Yeah, which is kind of creepy but again we we

had the Baxter fly mutation which was kind of

graphic so This is where this issue here where

we're gonna get into issue number 11 I have a

lot of feels for this issue. I do, and it...

So we got two stories here, and it kind of makes

sense a little bit, but I'm really getting...

I want one story per issue again. I really do.

I want one story, one writer. I don't care if

you do like, like say issue 11 or well, say issue

12 and 13 are a two part story. So you start

part one of the story and issue 12 and you do

part, as long as it's the same writer. Cause

that's the other thing. I mean, most of these

writers are getting these characters down because

it is a, it's not, it's a... It's a comic based

on the cartoon series. It's not a tie -in comic

because they don't really tie in anything, like

you've said in the past. It is a tie -in comic,

but in the respect that it ties into the series

just in the loosest of terms. I mean, it's not

like... I mean, hell, you could call the Transformers

comic in the 80s a tie -in comic, but they only

ever had one issue... That where they adapted

the big broadcast of 2006 into a comic and that

was the just completely out of nowhere Just hey,

let's do a comic based on the episode of the

cartoon, you know, just boom. Whereas this is

based on the cartoon. It's It's adventure they

can have it's just yeah, it doesn't specifically

tie into any one episode and I'm sorry the main

cover. I like it. I think it's cool, but it is

a lie How is it a lies I Don't think shredder

shows up at all does he well no, but I mean it's

a footbots so shredder yeah, but Now the the

alternate cover done by Marcella Ferrara Very

I do again. It's a group shot action group slash

action shot sort of cover Yeah, but I really

dig this one You know like the last two alternate

covers have been you know, they've got that action

It's just that first group shot like the badass

group shot one just didn't really Do anything

for me because I've seen that like a million

times Yeah But this backup one, you know, and

if you want to go out and collect these I don't

say what I don't see why not did you want to

waste time money and gas driving to and from

every store to Get all the alternate covers because

you know Doesn't really matter in the long run

they all got the same story on the inside. Yeah

Yeah, so first story here is called partners

and it opens with Michelangelo doing what Michelangelo

does reading comic books in an alley And I'm

saying there's a bad thing is just that I could

see Michelangelo doing that. Oh, I absolutely

you know after getting Hey, Donnie, wanna read

this? Nah, I'm busy making a new Anti -Munich.

And Leo, I'm training. Raph, you're a dork. Yeah.

It's like, Mikey always gets the short end of

the stick. Yeah. But, still my favorite. Although,

I do love the way that he starts play -acting

out, you know, the moves from Weather Warlock.

And I can't help but think that he dug in that

dumpster he's sitting on and found the comic.

Yeah, that's probably where he found it. Honestly.

Yeah, and apparently Mikey has the ninja ability

to punch somebody and completely change the personality

because he punt tornado punches a foot bot into

the wall and Then is oh He's basically spins

himself so hard that he gets dizzy is almost

run over by a truck daredevil style Before the

foot bot rescues him Yeah, and he essentially

he initiates mirror mode where I think they were

watching real steel when they wrote this story

And don't get me wrong. I fucking love real steel

It's Rockham Sockham robots what's not the love

exactly so basically the footbutt adopts Mikey

and Mikey's like I can't let you follow me home

last time I did that it didn't work out so well

Which the referencing the leatherhead episode

which was great because I love that every time

Donatello get near Leatherhead he grabs it. He's

got my face So of course Michelangelo being the

naive innocent and hardcore comic geek that we

all know him to love He essentially comes up

with the idea to become Batman and Robin with

the Footbot Or should I say Captain Karate and

Sparky? Because why not it's Michelangelo I Those

costumes. Oh my god those costumes, you know

aside from the fact that they They rated a Salvation

Army drop box for this stuff The comics the costumes

aren't all that bad really design wise and if

you read this panel where he goes to you know

does the bro fist the foot to sparky if you see

what sparky does if you didn't think about that

one scene the avengers you don't have a soul

yeah because let's face it that's left punch

all over again oh absolutely But you see them

go off, you know, jacking some purple dragons

and such, you know, fighting crime with pizzas.

Fighting crime in a pizza tie. Yeah. The funny

thing about Sparky is, if only they had found

a purple hood for him. Because take out the green

out of the costume and he's basically the 87

foot ninja purple foot. Oh, yeah Leave the green

in he's a foot ninja devastator Yeah, I could

see that So yeah, so Mikey and Sparky fight crime

and he goes back Apparently this whole time that

Mikey was out he was supposed to be getting a

pizza So my early assertion that he was just

randomly chose to sit in an alley and read a

comic book because Raph was being a dick Well

was in incorrect. Yes, so he comes back and You

know, it's not Captain karate, it's Captain Kung

Fu apparently, but then again reporters never

get the story, right? You see all the you see

a couple interviews with like, oh, you know With

the the the civilians they've rescued and I Love

that Mikey hears of a bus accident on the bridge.

Hey, let me go pick up some more pizzas You know

and he goes off To get sparky and everything.

There's like huh. It's me guys. It's Michelangelo,

you know, beautiful. Yeah, we figured that out

like an hour ago Yeah And so So apparently this

is a while later because you've they you've been

speaking out at odd hours a day Asking where

the nurse phone booth is wearing your cape to

bed Yeah, and then he introduces Sparky and and

of course their first reaction is oh You don't

know what you're talking about Michelangelo.

Let's kill the robot Absolutely Kill the robot

kill the robot killed a robot, killed a ro -

with my spear and magic helmet. Oh god, no. Um.

So anyway, Karai and the other evil footbots

show up, and they're here to reclaim Sparky,

and after Michael Anderson's like, no, you can't

wreck him, he's my friend, and Raph's like, do

I have your permission to beat up these footbots?

Heck yeah, I'll even let you be my sidekick in

trading. And he's like, who are you calling a

sidekick? Foot to the face. Yep. And this is

the part here where I was just kind of like,

you know, it's a little bit old yeller, you know,

a little bit sad because Karai is going in for

the kill and Sparky sacrifices himself. Yeah,

it's a little bit sad. It's a little bit sad.

All of a sudden Michelangelo is a badass. Because

he takes out like, what, four or five foot bots

and, well, almost takes out Karai. You know and

then she you know slashes his arm jumps away

To be a complete you know Irksome so -and -so

another day You know We get back to the lair

And we get back to the lair and Splinter moral

of the story Raphael's a dick. Yeah pretty much

You know and Just I it's I say that like, you

know brothers are that that's like the standard

prerequisite for being a brother the older brother

you Your dick to your younger brothers, you know

toughen them up for the real world and all that

it's just like I'm just kind of bummed out Michelangelo

lost his friend like that that was surprisingly

touching for the series Mm -hmm, you know the

big don't think they really in that in the spiderbite

story last issue is like damn There's all sorts

of feels over this stuff Yup, pretty much. And

then we clearly, uh, the backup story is clearly

the Krang have enjoyed watching Julia Child's

cooking show because we have a story called Cooking

with Krang. Yes. Mutagen and the Anthony known

as You. Today, Krang will be instructing Krang

into how to make things that are not mutated

into entities known as mutants by using the substance

known as mutagen. Krang will now apply the thing

which is known as mutagen to one known as the

bunny. I feel like his method, if the achievement

of the desired reaction is not achieved, Krang

should apply more mutagen. Yes, because that

just makes everything better. Mm -hmm and because

the crying here have Created with with putting

more mutagen on the bunny They've essentially

created the evil Barry Gordon Nesquik bunny is

what this thing is With yeah, which because it

it was holding a carrot which is organic matter

It is now bunnyzilla because he's got spine Carrot

spines growing out of his back Carrot spines

Well, it's like weird I Still like that watch

it because the basically the money the money

the bunny is mutated Into bunnyzilla which attacks

the camera operator in this watch out Craig who

is operating that? and then clearly like Lieutenant

or something walks in crying. This is no longer

an intended development in the video known as

mutagen an entity known as you Crane is now experiencing

the emotion known as terror and Then the turtles

busted Mm -hmm, which isn't a bad thing. I'm

just saying it's just no. Yeah, absolutely It's

just like you know that they've tracked the mutagen.

So they're fighting the bunny Rafa I do like

the smile that Raphael has on his face when he

just straight -up cold cocks the one Crang bot

Because you guys never know when to shut up.

Yeah And I love I love the next line check it

out think this machine Thing he does something

important probably Mikey. So don't touch it Mikey.

No touchy got it No touchy He's like, I thought

you said we shouldn't touch anything. No, I said

you shouldn't touch anything. And you know, they

send the mutated bunny into Dimension X, which

at this point with creatures like this, you're

pretty much your only option. Unless it's Kirby

Bat, which you have to cure, or it's that mutant

pigeon who just wants some bread. Yeah. You know,

so Okay, but I wasn't that far off with bunnyzilla.

Mikey calls it hopzilla Hobzilla. Yeah So they

go out for you know post -battle pizza Crank

in the port and the poor crankbot. This is the

first time I really feel sorry for these crank

bots. Well, this has been This has been the transmission

that is known as mutagen and he's known as you

have a good period of time There's called night

crying you know end of transmission I almost

wish it would say end of line yeah no and sorry

good well I was gonna say the the next issues

cover coming up for issue 12 is top secret from

the turtles to the world they are in the bowels

of the postal Please tell me it's going to be

an adventure at the post office. I would love

to see turtles going postal at the post office.

Yeah, no, I saw that's what I think the story

is going to be. When I saw this and the first

thing I thought of, if you haven't seen it, they

had the sequel to Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Whereas they go through a door and it's a scene

where Nathan Fillion is the god Hermes and that's

five points right there to you. so they go through

a door and it's like this infinite chain of conveyor

belts and rolling bar tracks and That's the first

thing I thought of when I saw this but the turtles

fighting in an overly elaborate and complicated

post office I'm down Yeah, I'm down now the one

thing I'm going to mention is just the liberal

application of mutagen by the entity known as

Krang to the the one known as the bunny The first

thing I thought of when I read this issue and

I was and just he's just basically slopping the

mutagen on is Like gee, I hope the bunny doesn't

turn into a hideously deformed freak of superhuman

size and strength You know toxic crusaders and

who knows That is if you know if the Nickelodeon

could get the rights to that and you know Lloyd

Kaufman would be down because he did turn it

into a captain and Planet s cartoon in the 90s

you could totally fit Toxy and the Toxic Crusaders

into the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

So if we can't have my punk frogs we could damn

sure get Toxy in there Yeah, no punk frogs And

then we have something very special at the end

of this we have Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

an homage to the very first story that Eastman

and Laird did way back when yeah um i don't even

care about it's not that i don't want to read

the the the blurbs i don't even really care about

that i just love seeing lego turtles because

there's so much better than any original characters

lego can come up with their crappy movies with

um but yeah lego turtles rule i still and i love

just you still get the same effect but just a

little bit oh they're so cute where the there's

like you guys are in trouble now you know blah

blah triple purple dragon turf blah blah especially

when they're wearing stupid turtle costumes he's

wrong we're not wearing costumes i was like yes

yes yeah i love that line absolutely amazing

and yeah so that's that's it for this one um

i think we're going to take a quick break and

we'll come back with final thoughts and ratings

after this Hunnic Outcast Podcast is the latest

podcast to be partnered with the Geekcast Radio

Network with its host, Jeremy Fine. What is Hunnic

Outcast Podcast, you may ask? Well, it's a grab

-back gimmick of pop culture and non -pop culture

events. One week I could be discussing Godzilla,

one week I could be discussing some of the PG

and PG -13 to R -rated... Disney -esque movies,

uh, comics, getting on my soapbox, just ranting

and raving. You never can tell. So check me out

on iTunes, Hunnic Outcast Podcast, Twitter, Hunnic

Outskirt, Facebook .com, Hunnic Outcast Podcast,

and of course, Syndicated Shows section on the

Geekcast Radio Network website. Finally, a podcast

that will never be questioned. ever. What's going

on Donnie? It's a Crank Sweet 16 birthday party.

How am I supposed to know? Alright folks, we

are back and we are going to rate these four

issues. Issue 8, I'll give it a 3 out of 5, which

is barely passing. It's still a good grade, 3

out of 5 is not bad, but I just don't like the

Rat King story. I just can't. No. Mm -hmm. I

can deal with the rat king story. Like I said,

I It's an it's one of those like I said before

other issues. We've talked about it's it's an

episode. They could they never made yeah, and

the you could say the same thing once we get

to number 11, but definitely number eight yet,

I Enjoyed the story for what it was, but even

I would have been skeeved out by the tidal wave

after tidal wave after Tidal Wave of friggin'

rats. Oh yeah, absolutely. You know, as much

as I love Jeffrey Combs, like I said, I hear

the voice actors whenever I read these comics,

it's just, yeah, I'm gonna give it a three and

a half. You know, I liked it. Yeah. But that's,

it was entertaining and that's really as much

as I would care to say about Just Cause. Yeah.

You know, get onto number nine, the Metalhead

story. Really dug the metalhead story. It was

a lot of fun. I'm giving it a four for metalhead

games Yeah, I mean I mean the issue on a whole

I love I love the raft story Absolutely, love

the raft Shiner. Yeah, I'm ref Shiner. That's

honestly I'm giving that a four as well I'm gonna

give them I'm gonna give that that entire issue

a five because I absolutely love both of those

stories even though I have my reservations I

have my reservations of you know not Explaining

why metalhead is still around at least to the

comic audience, but whatever I think rebuild

Final judgment will upgrade my skirt or four

and a half. I didn't absolutely love it and that

really the only reason I give that half point

off is That that hold it the raft story about

the guy telling the tall tale and it's really

not like I've read that a hundred times before

so Yeah, but it's not usually something like

I know it just say it's knit for me. It's nitpicky

at best so yeah for spider bites and Mikey's

map I'll give it a four As much as I love spider

bites and as much as how unmistakable Lewis Black's

voice is as spider bites in my head I just I

don't know. It just doesn't it's yeah, like I'm

giving it doesn't scream perfect to me at all

I'm gonna give it a four as well Like I said,

I really enjoyed the story there with you know,

Mikey's just trying to show his brother some

love you know and They don't exactly appreciate

it, and by that I mean... Donnie has a legit

gripe, Leo is being a hard ass, and Raph's a

dick. Yeah, pretty much. Which seems to be the

prevailing theme in a lot of these stories. Pretty

much, yeah. What was the genesis of the action

of the story? Raphael was being a dick. Yeah,

so I mean, it was good. I really love that Mikey's

Map story. You know, it was funny. You've seen

stories like this before, but it's just something

about this one I liked more than the other times

I've seen it, which is kind of reverse of, you

know, Raph Shiner from the previous issue. But

no, I really dug that. And the art that they

used on Mikey's Map really fit the series. So

if Brazella ever has to go on like... extended

break you know you get Chad Thomas to back it

up because there's even a little as much as Brazil

it tries to go after the art style of the show

Thomas really just makes it feel like a to his

art almost makes it feel like a 2d animated sort

of absolutely absolutely so we for good I was

gonna say no just uh for number 11 like I said

I dig the standard The standard cover, the backup

cover was nice. And the story, it, this was a

lot of, like I said, there's a lot of fields

here. This, it's a little bit of old yeller.

You know, it's, you know, Mikey has a friend,

you know, it's a robot, you know, it's, it's

an evil robot, but not, he's not so evil anymore.

You know, he's having a good time and he's living

the dream, being a superhero and Well, as usual,

his brothers are less than supportive of the

idea. You know, no one bitches and complains

when Donnie builds a robot out of crank spare

parts, but Michelangelo brings home a brain -damaged

robot, and all of a sudden it's a bad idea. Yeah,

absolutely. Uh, you know, Presello's art was

great. The, like I said, the writing, was it,

uh, Derek Fridolf's and... Yeah, he did the the

main story and then it was Jackson Lansing and

David server did the backup So with the crankster

look at the crank thing and it was funny I'm

oh, I love the crank thing. Yeah The crank thing

was hilarious. I'm gonna give it a four and a

half on this one Like it's not that I didn't

like the crank story. It just Don't know how

to explain you could have done a little bit more,

you know Just made you could have got in at least

another three jokes here somewhere So, you know

taking that half point off for that, but yeah,

this is a four and a half for me mainly because

like I said, you know, you got the Bucky O 'Hara's

evil mutant cousin in the crying story. But yeah,

it was that first one Michelangelo and old yeller

That that's that's the strength of this issue

in that story. So you know So I was right the

the solicit for issue 12 It's a panic at the

post office. A series of misunderstandings leads

to a madcap race to stop a secret weapon from

hitting the mail. The only one who can save the

day just might be Pigeon Pete. Multiple heroes

and villains collide in this action -packed tale

of chaos and comedy. The whole time I'm seeing

this post office cover thing and I'm thinking,

oh my god. The mail room. What would happen if

the turtles and the minions collided? That would

be so fucking amazing. That would actually be

pretty dope. I know, right? I'm trying to see

if there's a solicit for issue 13 here. I don't

know if that's out yet or not. Animated Adventures...

No, I don't see it yet. So, I'm not sure when

the next time around we're going to be doing

new animated adventures. Ladies and gentlemen,

it's going to depend on the release scheduling

for... New Animated Adventures, it will either

be issues 12, 13, and 14, or issues 12 through

15, it just depends. Right now I have it on the

pullback schedule for the third week in August,

but that could change. It most likely will change.

So, there you go. Where can the people find you

online, good sir? They can find me on the Twittersphere
