About this Episode

TFG1Mike and A. Das Baron dive into the first two issues of DC's He-Man: The Eternity War series, following up on the 2013 ongoing's final arc. Hordak returns to Eternia with the blood of Grayskull, forcing He-Man and She-Ra to strike back with the Snake Men and launch a coordinated assault on both Mount Zor and the Horde's orbital disruptor. The hosts discuss the series' creative structure, character designs that tie back to the original toys and cartoons, and what it means for Adam that he's been He-Man continuously without transforming back.

What do we have here? It's Castle Grayskull.

And it's mine! Not so fast, Beastman. He -Man!

You can pit He -Man against Beastman, playing

for the power of Castle Grayskull. You have to

put the castle together. Beastman's escaping!

The throne, Dad! Dad, you saved the castle! Castle

Grayskull, from the Masters of the Universe collection.

He -Man and Beastman, each sold separately, from

Mattel. I am Adam, Prince of Eternia and defender

of the secrets of Castle Grayskull. This is Cringer,

my fearless friend. Fabulous secret powers were

revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic

sword and said, By the power of Grayskull! Welcome

to The Pullback! Join us as we dig out our latest

comics and discuss them with a rotating panel

of the GCRN crew So sit back and enjoy this week's

pullback Hello and welcome to the pullback this

is episode 134 and we are getting back to Eternia,

Masters of the Universe, He -Man, all that good

stuff. I am, of course, one of your hosts, TF2,

and Mike. Joining me, as usual, for the He -Man

coverage is the Skeletor of Barrens himself,

A -Dash Barren. Hello. Good evening, Michael.

I swear, Mattel should hire you for all of their

ads. Maybe I'll see if I can contact Dan. Since

we're here and since some interesting news came

out a little while ago Of course, it's probably

been debunked by now knowing my sources but I

had read on toy arc about a month or so ago that

there was a Considered merger between Hasbro

and Mattel and also I can think of is they're

gonna call it hazmat uh... uh... so last time

you're here we did uh... the issue digital series

kind of uh... go back in time kind of things

we finished off the twenty thirteen dc comics

ongoing with the blood of grayscale storyline

thankfully going from the twenty thirteen ongoing

to a jury war they completely ignore issue nineteen

of the ongoing which is great because that was

just some weird stuff so basically If you guys

have read issues 1 to 18 of the 2013 He -Man

and the Master's Universe ongoing, this picks

up pretty much at the end of issue 18 with, you

know, the oncoming war. What did you first think

when they announced the new quote -unquote ongoing?

Well, I was a little confused as to why they

were just renaming it and renumbering it. why

not just continue it and just call this arc eternity

war but you know how number ones quote -unquote

sell yep yeah that's yeah that's what they and

the sad thing is i thought this was gonna be

a continuous ongoing thing but then i realized

oh wait it's dc comics they never stick with

anything now and so the eternity war only got

15 issues and then it's Is they redoing it again?

I don't know what's coming next. I have no clue.

At this point in time, what we're going to be

doing, folks, is we're going to go two issues

at a time to cover the entire series over the

next... the year here and so that way we can

sprinkle it in. We don't have to do four issues

or five issues or whatever else. We can just

kind of sprinkle the episodes into the pullback

stuff and don't have to worry about it. We're

not here half as long and whatever else and all

that stuff. So I figured two issues at a time,

you know, comfortable 45, 50 minute worth of

recording. But yeah, I don't know I have not

I've only read up to issue 12 at this point I

have not read issue 13 14 or 15 So I don't know

all as I know is is that whatever? Whenever issue

15 came out the next month solicitations There

was no issue 16 and I'm like wait what where

is it? Nobody of mine who reads it Eric Shea

over at weird science DC Comics blog He said

yeah, they they ended it Like, oh, OK. No clue.

But number one, the cover. Oh, boy. This is kind

of epic. It is. It's Super Friends magnitude

standoff. Yeah, pretty much. Thankfully, Hordak

isn't pulling a challenge of the Super Friends

dark side impression and trying to get into Shearer's

pants all the time, because let's face it. Let's

let's face it challenge of the super friends

dark side. He always wanted to get into Wonder

Woman's pants So this starts off with the the

the despondos realm of darkness and Hordak coming

back to life since he has the blood of greyskull

now he has he man's blood and This has really

been an evolution for Hordak. I think you read

the origin for Hordak, right? Yeah. The one where

it's him versus... Oh god, people are gonna kill

me for this. Zodak? Him versus Zodak, yeah. Basically

took place a thousand years ago and all that.

And now we're basically reversing everything

that has happened to Hordak. We're basically

bringing him back. That's kind of what this series

has become. Overall, it's become a bring -back

-to -life series, because we'll have another

bring -back -to -life moment later. Yeah, I mean,

there have been so many miniseries and ongoings

and digitals and one -offs that it brings a lot

of confusion as to what's in it and what's not.

Yeah. So you read the ongoing, and Hordak is

just this kind of literally statuesque character.

And then only in this issue do we learn that

it was just a casing that now that he has the

blood, he can kind of Shed Yeah, he basically

pulls a snake routine We have Tila as the goddess

or the sorceress or the whatever. She looks like

the goddess toy action figure. So pretty much

we've got that and Because at the end of the

blood of Grayskull storyline in the original

2013 ongoing Hordak took over Castle Grayskull

So there's only one of the place on Eternia that

the rebellion Can go to which is snake Mountain

in the dark hemisphere. I mean that that makes

total sense The good guys at the villain layer

and the bad guys at the good guy like that that

makes complete and utter sense But you'll notice

if we're looking at the outside shot Definitely

have the weaponry from Castle Grayskull. Oh,

yeah cannons and everything. Yep, absolutely

We've got So we got Snake Mountain here, we've

got He -Man and Tila and the Sorceress having

a discussion about the oncoming destruction and

the oncoming war with Hordak, and then we get

this epic rebirth of Hordak. The panel where

it's where basically Tila is still near narrating.

She says He will get the power to re -enter Eternia

and seize the secrets of Grayskull that panel

with him in the fire Oh, man, that's that's awesome.

That's awesome. Yes, he's being geared up by

his Minions there all I can think of is that

opening scene from Guardians of the Galaxy where

Ronan is being dressed Yep, absolutely Pop Mahon

and Mark H Roberts have done I mean the colors

and then just in this one panel are just amazing

and then we get this really big nice image of

All the Horde members. You got Grizzlor, Catra,

Modulock, Scorpia, Mantana, Leech, who's the

other guy? I forget. Not Roboto. Multibot. Multibot,

yeah, and of course Hordak and Gotta say pop

my hands the signs on on the evil horde. They

look great. They're on point Mm -hmm They look

Filmation but they look modern like if if if

Filmation was still around and they were doing

a modern -day he -man series That's what these

look like. They do not look like the cheesy 80s

uh... designs that that scorpio looks a little

more intimidating rather than a good uh... yeah

uh... uh... yeah exactly uh... so hordak basically

says to grislord give me your Give me your sword,

give me a knife, whatever, keen -edged. He cuts

himself, puts the blood on the ground. This reveals

a hidden entrance into the fires of eternity.

Why does this remind me of the ancient spirits

of evil in Mumra's pyramid? Yeah, you have the

three totems and the pits in the center of it.

Yep. The only thing that's missing is a cauldron.

It could be hiding there. It could be. And Hordak

starts forging his own power sword. His power

sword looks a hell of a lot better than the twin

power sword. I've never not made this apparent.

I hate the upgraded look of the power swords

of the sort of power and sort of protection.

It's just way too ornate. Yeah, but this for

Hordak looks amazing. Yeah, this is like a A

broadsword and a bludgeoning device all in one.

And then we get this super awesome panel of where

he says, I am the power and Castle Grayskull

has completely transformed into the playset from

Mighty Max. I was going to say a bat out of hell

if only Meatloaf was singing somewhere in there.

But I mean, the thing looks epic. And thus begins

the search for the eyes of Grayskull. We get

back to the heroes here, He -Man and She -Ra

and all that and the snake men. And apparently

somebody has knocked down Man -At -Arms because

he heard his daughter cry out and he must go

to her and basically the snake men are not even

allowing him. Any entrance to Snake Mountain

whatsoever? Yeah, it's basically, she's their

god, so. Yeah, you got Rattlar, Kovrakhan, Lashor,

and Squeeze. What do you think of the designs

of the main Snake Men that we've kind of always

known about? They don't seem to deviate from

their initial concept. Ratlors more on the orange

side than that kind of auburn -ish maroon color

that he is known for, but they're completely

recognizable. Bright magenta for tongue -lash

or... That's the way he always was. I know, I

love it. Yeah, it's absolutely awesome. Sucker

for bright colors. You got another panel with

a close -up on Khan and Lashor and they just

look great. The art in this is amazing. We get

more of the story. We find out that Skeletor,

according to He -Man, Skeletor is just a pawn.

Hordak is the true demon. He took my uncle from

me. He took my sister. He took a ternia and Castle

Grayskull and now he's even taking my very blood

What do I have left and? Shira, you know says

some encouraging words towards him and we get

this beautiful opening page here of How Tila

is basically explaining what the eyes of Grayskull

are which tie it back into the on the online

miniseries Mm -hmm. Yep. Absolutely. Yeah, everything

ties back to everything. What do you think of

the original, traditional Castle Grayskull up

in the left -hand corner there? It's very gray.

Yeah. There's definitely more of a regalness

to it, obviously. It's not thousands and thousands

of years old at this point, so it's not as dilapidated.

It definitely feels different when it's not rundown.

I don't know if I dig it as much. Yeah, I think

I dig the close -up of where we actually see

the eyes and the eyes of Grayskull, the two gems,

Chaos and Chrono. Basically, one deals with time

and one deals with space. So basically what they

did was they took the giant blue box and melted

it down into two red gems, people. So So as I

said thus begins the age of or not the age the

the search for the eyes and Skeletor had one

and We want to go back to the origin, but obviously

you've read farther ahead than I have and they

mentioned that Was it odd II which is? Yes advisor

gives them the grace call would pull the George

Washington and it's like, you know, you shouldn't

have all this power. So mm -hmm So Adi hasn't

killed that it seems like quite a jump Given

no other backstory with this character other

than just saying oh, yeah, he stabbed him in

the back Well, we will get I do know that we

will get how that happened. Okay, that was my

concern They should what teal is doing here she's

just giving a general plot synopsis of what happened.

I do know that. There is an issue. I believe

it's issue six that delves into that part of

the storyline. Because there is there is one

I do know there is one issue where we at the

whole issue is king gray skulls time it's not

even like. It may open with with something with

with Tila here or something like that or he man

But the rest of the issue is is the King Grayskull

story, so we will get it. It's not just Not just

brief and bad writing yeah, no no and the other

thing about the writing since we're talking about

it and it's just kind of I don't know I Understand

Mattel. They're a toy company. They must sell

toys. I get that but it's just one of those things

where I'm I was like seeing interpretations of

whatever comic it is like you know if you have

somebody writing Batman that hasn't written Batman

before I want to know that person's you know

thoughts and stories for that series. Here, with

this series, I've actually gone all the way back

to the main page here. Part one, Flesh and Blood.

The creative on this, Dan Abnett is on script.

Pat Mahon is on art. Mark H. Roberts on colors.

And then right at the very bottom, it's his story

by Rob David. Rob David is the head writer, head

creator, creative, whatever the hell, at Mattel.

And I'm thinking, so did Rob David just give

Dan Abnett a story and he just scripted it? It

probably just gave him an overview. See, this

is one thing that I'm not, I mean, I love the

story. I love the writing. I'm not saying I just

wish that if you're going to have somebody write

your comic. have them listed as the writer not

just the person who scripted it because it makes

it to me it makes it sound like You know, oh

Michael Bay wrote the fourth transformers movie

and and what's his name? Just screw, you know

put the script to you like Michael Bay wrote

all this stuff and then you had somebody just

assemble it into somewhat less than coherent

movie, but I Don't know. I think it the guy who

wrote it just kind of give you key points and

then All right, Abbot, just script and plot the

whole thing out for us. Mm -hmm. Yeah, and normally,

I don't pay too much attention to, like, those

kind of details when it comes to creative stuff,

but when it comes to the Eman stuff, I kind of

have to because I got to remember, this isn't

just DC. This is also Mattel's thing. So there

is that. see here so we have the backstory and

we have like you said basically them saying you

know hey well we'll figure it out we'll get through

this and you know we'll fight them And Shira

even suggests so we use the eyes against Hordak

and Tila says, oh no, we No, not Hordak not anyone.

No good can come from that Now if every time

there was an evil totem they went this route

we would probably have a lot less problems During

some of the flashback when Teela's talking about

Skeletor and she's explaining Chrono and Chaos,

and Sheila... God, I just combined them. She

rubs in and says, of time, and He -Man asks,

how do you know about this? And she says, oh,

Hordak's orders after Ayasda Sparra took Castle

Grayskull for him was to search the sands of

time for the Eye of Chrono. He is looking for

it. Basically the plot of the story line is the

eyes must be destroyed because no one, you know,

basically the same thing as what King Grayskull

said, no one person should have this kind of

power. We then go back outside to man -at -arms

fighting all of the snake men. Because he still

wants to get into the castle to see his daughter

or snake. I should say snake mountain to see

his daughter With that surly beard he really

looks like Fisto Yeah, it's a combination of

Fisto and Burger King. Yeah But yeah, he really

does look like his quote -unquote brother Fisto

so He finally gets in he finally he finally sees

Tila and He asks her are you well and all she

says to him is the crystal sea well, okay, then

And he just lets himself out Before he leaves

he says remember to dress up warm child. It's

cold here in the dark hemisphere. Yes, daddy

It's that seemed like a really odd character

break. Yeah, it did very odd So we have the three

we have Tila he man and Shira Putting their staff

and swords together. Let the war begin Let it

begin and end and we have this Slime pit of a

snake mountain It's almost like yeah, I mean

It's I can't decide if it's supposed to be an

homage to the slime pit or if it's supposed to

be an homage to green ooze from turtles I mean

The thing is just the whole mountain is green

and the mouth is obviously dripping out the fire

and then we see a Purple hooded figure well well

it looks like the children have been busy while

I was away The time has come I see and I have

one piece of the puzzle at least And we end on

Skeletor's reveal with Castle Hordak and Snake

Mountain in the upper right -hand corners of

the final panel and I love this image. I'm still

not too thrilled with Skeletor's design, but

I'll talk about that in a minute, but just the

whole background of the red and Skeletor's purple

with the red of Grayskull and the green of Snake

Mountain, I just love that. Yeah, it's very much

like a an ending shot if i were to make a dragon

ball reference um half the time when they when

they end those episodes it's always you know

image in the corner versus other image in the

corner character in the center how is this gonna

end to find out next week yeah so skeletor is

back people might be asking well where the hell

is he then If anyone read or if anyone listened

to our review in pullback episode 87 when we

did DC universe versus Masters of the universe

That's where Skeletor was he was on earth of

all places The proportions seem really odd in

this one panel I Think it's the way he's standing

It I understand what you're saying and I and

I agree with you But I think it's the way that

he is standing he has his left leg is kind of

back and it's almost like if you go to take Three

steps at a time and a stairwell where you're

like say your right leg is You reach your right

leg up to the third step and you're trying to

pull you so that that's the only thing I can

think of it Yeah, you're right. It's it's a little

off his waist seems especially tiny Given the

proportions of all the other characters. I mean

it could just been a I think it's just I Think

it's just the way this pose is and we haven't

seen him next to the other characters yet So

like when you see him if you go back to the full

page panel of where he says well Well, it looks

like the children have been busy while I've been

away He's just standing there and he looks okay,

but I think it's more so just the way he's posed

in this final shot than anything else. First

issue, overall thoughts? I'd say it's off to

a good start, vast improvement. I think the last

series just laid the groundwork for everything

and now that we've gotten all that out of the

way, we can move forward with a decent story.

Mm -hmm. Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. I'm right

there with you. I thought this was great. You

have Hordak coming out of his shell, quite literally.

You have the whole horde there. You've got He

-Man and She -Ra working together. I'm still

not a fan of Tila as the sorceress, as the goddess

-looking character, but it's okay. At least she's

not as annoying as when she's just regular old

Tila. Do you think these new powers gave her

that British voice too? Possibly. Who knows?

Oh god, can you imagine? And I am so not a Whovian,

folks, so just take this with a grain of salt.

Can you imagine? Tila is one of the companions.

Oh god. What would you rate number one on a scale

of one to five? Yeah, I'm right there with your

solid four. Even though I had a little bit of

problems with the whole script versus story thing,

I can get over that because the writing is really,

really good. I think it sets the entire story

line up very well. It gives us hints into what

happened in the past with King Grayskull. It

gives hints to the overall lineage of the entire

Grayskull line. I believe it actually might be

an issue too, so I'll bring it up later. I was

gonna say something about Tila and He -Man and

all that, but I think that comes up when Man

-at -Arms and He -Man are conversing in issue

two. So we're gonna take a quick break, come

back with issue two after this. We've told the

tales of Eternia, now we head to a different

dimension to explore the Myths of Etheria. Join

Optimus Solo and TFJoneMike as they continue

their Mo -2 journey by exploring She -Ra, Princess

of Power, 35 podcast episodes covering the entire

run of She -Ra the Christmas Special, and more.

You can find Myths of Etheria on iTunes and www

.geekcastradio .com. For the honor of Grayskull,

we all have the power. Back and it is time for

issue two of he man the eternity war What do

you think of the cover for this one? Oh? Tealer

with those come hither eyes. There's luscious

lips. How can I resist? And you have he man riding

battle cat with the snake men behind him basically

running towards the reader they continue this

trend of having squeeze look like a dinosaur.

Oh man, you know who he reminds me of in this

shot? Sludge, right before his Looney Tunes moment,

right before Devastator knocked him down in the

Transformers movie. So this one opens up with

the Snake Men at Snake Mountain. And we open

up with He -Man leading them into war, because

they're going to strike right before dawn, and

they're going to have the element of surprise

on their side. You've got He -Man with all the

snake men, and you've got Battle Cat with eight...

Who looks like something out of Parliament Funkadelic.

He looks like something out of lion the witch

in the wardrobe movie from a few years ago I

mean if I didn't know battle cat was a green

tiger. I would almost think he was a yellow lion

because because of how his his mask is So had

it been established that the snake men were pulled

out from the past Oh, I don't remember. Because

they have all of the preternia dinosaurs. Yeah,

I don't remember. Are they taking liberties by

including it in the current universe, or is it,

hey, we've been, you know, stuck for... I'm sure

it's something where they did something story

-wise to bring them forward, I would assume.

But I honestly do not remember, because it has

been such a long time since we did the original

Blood of Grayskull episodes from the 2013 series,

so I'm honestly not sure about that. So, as always,

we got Abmit on script, Pop Mahan on colors,

Mark Roberts on art, Mark Roberts on colors.

This is part two, The Light and Dark. So we have

this opening shot of them going into battle and

then we cut back to Two nights earlier and We

see man -at -arms shaving into his classic look

so the beard didn't last too long. Thank God

This one shot of the two of them it with he man

there's just something about this one in particular

which Just shows off how well this new costume

doesn't really gel with everything else Mm -hmm

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the cape and the Iron

Man pants and in the weird Loin cloth looking

that I'm not if I it's not because I want the

classic he man look or anything I'm just you're

right. It does not if you look at him standing

next to Duncan well Duncan is shaving in the

first panel where he says Or where he meant says

that will be no small undertaking in Duncan You

know that the two of them just look so different

as far as their their outfits go And Duncan is

going to go up to the orbital disruptor to destroy

it, pretty much. And He -Man's worried about

this. The other thing we gotta talk about, I

wanna bring this up before we get too far into

this and before we get too far into the series,

is... This is He -Man, folks. In this issue,

Man -at -Arms even brings it up. He has not transformed

back into Adam. He's been He -Man the entire

time. And because he's been He -Man the entire

time, the power is constantly flowing through

him. And I personally thought the whole point

of the constant, even though in the Filmation

cartoon, they sometimes seem kind of not in the

proper place. There is a scene in one of the

episodes of the Filmation He -Man where Adam

is basically... He comes up from being underwater

and he it looks like he's just standing in the

ocean But he's not anywhere near the shore and

he's just it's you know, but it's a torso shot

He reaches behind him. He pulls the sword and

he you know, he does the transformation while

he's in an ocean It just is so unbelievable to

me. But the whole point I thought of the whole

Adam he man personality switch was because Adam

is the ground. It's kind of like reverse of Batman

we all know Bruce Wayne is the mask we get it

he really is Batman his real personality whereas

this is he man is kind of the mask for Adam he

man is the power but Adam is the real grounding

force for the counterpart to he man and that

will actually get explored later in the series

And man -in -arms is like, always be prepared.

And then we get into Adam asking, or He -Man

asking about the Crystal Sea. And basically,

Tila took care of herself when she went searching

for answers about her mother at the Crystal Sea.

She never actually found it, but she spent 90

days all alone, essentially. She spent three

months all alone. And she survived until he rescued

her. So he just willingly let his daughter go

out for 90 days or I guess you'd think his Reconnaissance

work would have found her quicker Yeah, pretty

much And this is the scene where Where he he

basically calls him Adam and and he says, you

know You know when was the last time how long

has it been since you relinquish the power since

you were last Adam a while I can't stop being

he man now Duncan I can't transform back where

or I have to say strong for my men for attorney

for attorney and this is where we get back to

the original scene that opened it up with with

the battle and They attack Mount Zor And the

horde is basically caught off guard. Pretty much.

There's a panel here where we see Mantana, a

horde trooper, and... Dialamug. Yeah, I'm so

happy to see him. Well, the horde trooper on

the side, he was from the cartoon. I'm not sure

if it's General Sunder or... He's another name,

but he's a pre -existing character. Okay, so

he's from the Shira cartoon then yeah, I think

he was They they didn't put a real blast in so

they kind of rewrote the character to that, okay?

Okay because I just Over on powers of grayskull

Kevin and I are finally finally get to reviewing

Shira. We're about halfway through season one

and I had already read this issue. Obviously

this issue, issue number two for a Shinobi War

has been out for a while. I completely missed

the Dial -a -Mug reference when I first read

this because I didn't know who Dial -a -Mug was.

And then I saw the episode in She -Ra where Dial

-a -Mug first appears and I'm like, what kind

of wacky character is that? He's like Modok.

Yeah. Robot Walker and Manny Fates has had a

baby. Yeah. God, it's just scary. So we have

this giant battle scene, you know, the next few

panels and pages are battle scenes where they're

explaining what each side is doing and how they're

going to win the war. And the rest of the issue

is pretty much, at least for that part, on Eternia

is pretty much the battle, the first battle here.

We go to Earth, not actually on Earth, but you

know. where the disruptor is. Earlier, Man in

Arms said, always be prepared, and he is modified

Roboto. The way he is modified Roboto is to basically

act as armor for himself, so he's actually inside

Roboto. It just seems weird to have Roboto as

a spacesuit. I think ever since the 2000X series,

that's kind of what I like, that he's just a

robot, so they're going to modify him to whatever

needs need to be met. Right So they're going

to destroy the orbital disruptor so that can't

destroy anything we get back to Eternia and We

have Montana with a horn crossbow. That's a nice.

Yeah, that's a nice homage to the toys And they're

going to release spy door It's a giant spider

people now. I I can't remember in this panel

Obviously he's got the the robot body and this

furry spider head, but did the toy have the the

Organic head or was it all robot I? Do not actually

know because I'd never had spy door The way I'm

looking at this design is they've used the robotic

legs from like stridor The horse is only only

I can think of a stridor with a horse Um, but

yeah, I'm not sure. That's a, that's a question

for, for Mattel. I, I don't know. Um, and we,

uh, we basically have He -Man saying that he's

going to rip Spyder apart and we have Mantana,

uh, and, and Dial -a -Mug doing an exchange.

We go back to, uh, Roboto and Man -at -Arms and

they're trying to get into the station and The

Horde people, or what do they say it is, Horde

orbital drones are detected and assaulted. So

they have, basically it's a giant fight in space.

So the battle with Roboto man -at -arms and the

Horde drone things and the battle on Eternia

pretty much goes back and forth. Hordeck and

the Horde just came through this gate and already

they have things deployed in space. mm -hmm I

Hordak is is a planner so I I'm not sure the

way I look at the orbital disruptor is it's it's

like he built you know the Justice League tower

essentially it's the way I've looked at it We

have what I love about the man -at -arms Roboto

scene stuff is we have man -at -arms teaching

him about being sorry and about you know, because

the explosion happens and Roboto took some damage

and he says it may exceed his capacity of his

self or repair systems and Man -at -arms just

apologized to him for turning him into a war

machine So that is a nice little moment. I do

absolutely love that. And I do think it's really

cool seeing a man in arms inside the Roboto head.

I mean, it's his entire body, but just the panel

with the close -up on the faces, I just thought

that was really, really nice. He -Man eventually

defeats Spider, and they all shout his name.

Which all I can think of is the toy commercial.

Yeah, pretty much. Oh no, Castle Grayskull is

underrated. All I can think of is that dad in

the kid in the Castle Grayskull ad. Oh my god.

So the destructor goes boom. And we end on a

very mangled Roboto and we're not sure if he

or Medarms is going to survive and we get it

to be continued. Well, that was a cliffhanger

and a half. We'll see what happens next time.

Yes. So the second issue, there's a lot of stuff

going on with the story. The art. is simply amazing.

What I love about the art from Pop Mahon and

the colors from Mark Roberts is that it's not

differentiating styles between the two seats,

between Man in Arms and Roboto and the battle

on it. It's the same art style, but because it's

in different locations, it gives Pop Mahon and

Mark Roberts areas to change. The color palette

and whatever else because if you look on if you

look on the battle and attorney, it's mostly

Fiery red oranges greens that kind of thing and

obviously in space near earth. It's blues and

what I just absolutely love that What did you

think of the art overall? I'm digging the colors

a lot. I don't remember where the Previous series

did they use the same colors? Mmm, I have to

look this is definitely grabbing my eye more

Mm -hmm You know, what about the writing? How

did you feel the issue was written on this one?

Continues how I don't know how much longer this

war is going to last I mean if it just continues

and continues and continues it might go a little

stale for me I think the war continues but The

story progresses at like there's multiple battles

So it's not exactly It's not exactly just this

one battle. It's a it's a continuous kind of

thing I dug the writing in this I like the The

the kind of origin kind of thing they they kind

of get Tila's origin out of the way fairly quickly

Which is which is interesting as far as her Oh

as far as her You know, her 90 -day exhalation

kind of thing. I thought that was pretty cool.

How they worked around that. What I noticed about

the series is that they are kind of switching

between He -Man and She -Ra and what each of

them does or has to do. I just feel as of now

they're not, and I know we're only two issues

in, but they're not really using She -Ra as much

as I feel they should. To answer your question,

yes, it is the same team from the Blood of Grayskull

storyline of Mahon and Roberts, Roberts on Colors.

So yeah, it's it's the same art team now I do

know in the future a couple issues There are

a couple of issues that we'll get to where it

won't be the same team. It'll be But it's usually

only for one one issue kind of thing So that's

that's always good that they only do that for

one issue because maybe you know Maybe pop wanted

to do something else or maybe you needed a break

nose I'm loving this. I'm loving the story. I

think it's paced very well It's definitely doing

a better job of pulling me in I've noticed with

all like I should call the ancillary characters

All of their designs harken back to their initial

introduction Toys however, we aren't granted

that same Allowance with he man Which kind of

confused me. Not yet. But I think in the previous

series, I mean, we only get little glimpses at

the other characters, but I don't think those

designs were faithful to the original designs.

So I get a very, whatever the new Ninja Turtle

movie is, where they're kind of retconning all

the designs. Yeah, well, the He -Man thing is

story -based, because if you remember in the

2013 series, I think the sword broke or something

or whatever else. He had to forge a new sword

and he had to forge new armor. So think of it

as in, like, the snake armor from the final episodes

of the 2000X cartoon. Well, yeah, obviously because

this is essentially our Iron Man pants with with

a Silver harness, but I do know that we will

get back to classic Filmation classic toy design

for he man eventually before the series ends

goody I Don't know if it sticks or not, but I

do know there's at least one issue where I saw

it Yeah, I'm not sure. I think it's more so whatever

Mattel tells them to draw, maybe? I really don't

want to make that statement and be wrong about

it, but... It's possible. Yeah, I mean... I don't

know. I do know that story -wise, with Skeletor

and Hordak specifically, we've had an evolution

in the writing. As we already talked about, Hordak

and his quote -unquote shell. I do know, without

spoiling it for you, that we will get... If you

remember the origin of Skeletor, we had him as

Keldor and how he eventually became Skeletor.

Then we had his traditional Skeletor look for

a long time. And then we had DC Universe where

his jaw fell off or He -Man punched him in the

jaw or something or other. Right now we're at

the point where he has no job. Well, there's

a few plot points coming up later in this series

that actually Give him a chance to become quote

-unquote whole again So we'll have to see how

you react to that because I know I know you haven't

read most of this series I have like I said,

I've read the first 12 issues of it. So And it's

probably just you were too busy or didn't have

the time and it's kind of it's kind of nice actually

getting your first reactions, whereas I'm just

reminding myself of what the hell happened with

this series. Alright folks, that's going to do

it for this episode of The Pullback. Do you have

anything you want to promote? Where can people

find you online? Any of that good stuff? Well,

if we're going to promote myself, if you have

any listeners in the Philadelphia area, this

Saturday the 19th? of March is the Philly Comic

and Cosplay Day, and I am listed as a featured

guest. I will be there as the Joker. My whole

booth is going to be full of props. When I get

in character, I like to get in character. I'll

speak that way. And I think in April, I have

a very five -minute stage presentation as the

Joker for the Five Minute Follies stage act.

You can find more about that on my website, www

.adosbarron .com. You can find me on Facebook,

Ados Barron, and I've just been introduced to

Instagram. Why did I not do this sooner? Twitter

has been kind of a pain in the ass for me to

do, but Instagram is so much more easy. That's

because all of this is pictures. I know. Yeah,

I am so not. an Instagrammer, I don't Grindr,

I don't Tinder, none of that stuff. Twitter and

Facebook are pretty much it for me. Yeah, no,

that's awesome. Your Joker, who do you base your

Joker character on, which incarnation? Well,

now that I go back and think about it, I've spent

years studying the Mark Hamill version. I can

kind of do the voice, but I... If I'm gonna be

in character and wanna, I like to pick and choose

different elements. So I think I would say I

keep the essence of that animated Joker intact.

The makeup, obviously I don't have that wig.

I would love to have an animated style wig. It's

a mix between Romero, Nicholson, and a little

bit of the animated series. Cool. Cool. I started

out with an orange shirt and a blue bow tie,

but now I've made myself the green vest and then

whatever, it's not a bow tie, but whatever that

tie thing he has around his neck, green in it.

So I'm going to switch over to a yellow shirt

this time. Sweet, sweet. As always, you can find
