About this Episode

Mike and Ryan from StarJoes dive into the Dark Empire trilogy—the comics that bridged the original trilogy and the Expanded Universe. They explore the behind-the-scenes story of how Dark Empire went from a planned Marvel project to Dark Horse's first major Star Wars series, discuss how it influenced later Star Wars novels and comics, and break down the creative choices around art, character development, and Luke's flirtation with the dark side. They also touch on how Dark Empire connects to the Thrawn trilogy, Tales of the Jedi, and later Expanded Universe stories like the Jedi Academy trilogy and Star Wars Legacy.

Welcome to the pullback Join us as we dig out

our latest comics and discuss them with a rotating

panel of the GCR and crew So sit back and enjoy

this week's pullback like Star Wars. You know,

I've been in other movies. But you don't care

about those, do you? I have one thing to say

to people like you. I like Star Wars, too. Welcome

to the pull bag. This is our 120th episode I

am your host Steve drew and Mike and joining

me from star Joe's is the host with the most

Ryan Dross. Hello. Hello That's a tongue twister

right there And we are here to wrap up dark side

December because I don't think we're gonna end

up shattering any empires because it was Great

as I thought it was going to be but we are here

to talk about the dark Empire trilogy And I will

say this is a good one to end on anyways, so

So this this Imprises or the what comprises the

dark Empire trilogy is dark Empire one and two

and empires and Empire one and two the script

was done by Tom vettage is Beach whatever Art

is Cam Kennedy, the lettering was Todd Klein

for Empire's End, it was Tom again, the art was

Jim Bakke, and the lettering was done by Lois...

Lois Lane, I don't know. Right, here we go. Good

enough. Yeah, something like that. So, when do

they actually grow up and actually do stuff?

Seriously, well, come on thing this story takes

place before the last one we read So wait what?

We did them out of order. Are you kidding me?

So yeah, I have I have some information about

dark fire and how it kind of works out. Okay

Okay, and that or actually it may take place

after after throng trilogy Six years after that

wait a second if you you're really So, so let's

see so just to give you some information I did

look up some like in for me like tidbits about

Dark Empire like some behind -the -scenes stuff

Which I think you'll find pretty interesting.

So Dark Empire was originally planned to be published

by Marvel Comics as a single print ad For it

was was released. They actually had an ad released

a printing and released for it But eventually

it found its way as a project for Dark Horse

when they acquired the Star Wars license So like

Marvel dropped the Star Wars license Dark Horse

picked it up. This was actually supposed to be

a Marvel project In the late 1980s Lucasfilm

expressed interest in a Star Wars proposal from

Tom Veach and Cam Kennedy Based on their work

on the light and darkness war series So Lucasfilm

actually approached these two creators to do

a story to do a Star Wars story The original

idea for Dark Empire revolved around the Empire

using an imposter in Darth Vader's armor and

to use it used as a continuing symbol of fear

to help force far -flung worlds into obedience.

And then the concept was personally shot down

by Lucas himself. Instead, Lucas directed them

to bring back the emperor through cloning and

it's Very it's unclear if Lucas suggested the

concept himself or was merely or merely approved

it because Tom Beach has made conflicting comments

in regards to that. There's times where he says

it was Lucas's idea. There's times where he says

it was their idea so. Additionally, Dark Empire

was originally set. Shortly after the Battle

of Endor as that was the time frame in which

the previous Marvel comic series had left off

But during the writing of the Thrawn trilogy,

which we just covered recently Timothy Zahn was

asked to incorporate references and elements

from Dark Empire into his books since they were

set chronologically later than the comic and

Zahn refused And so Dark Empire was relocated

to being set After the events of Zahn's books

So some minor dialogue and art had to be altered

but they can only do like minor changes because

They were already well into production of it

by the time Zahn had turned them down And it

wouldn't be until Kevin J. Anderson's the Jedi

Academy trilogy that Dark Empire would first

be referenced by a Star Wars novel and if And

obviously, Kevin J. Anderson played a part in

Dark Empire, in the later part. I think it's

Dark Empire 2 and Empire's End is where Kevin

J. Anderson kind of jumps in. And he then wrote

the Jedi Academy trilogy, which is phenomenal.

It's one of my favorites. I know there's some

people out there that don't like his writing,

but I think it's fantastic. It's so cool because

that story picks up right where empires and let

leaves off like literally right where it leaves

off like they are still cleaning up after the

world devastators so So that was really cool

when you read a novel and you're like, I just

read the comic where this happened Yeah, so um

and then characters and events mentioned in the

holocron that was used in dark empire which we

see luke and I use with later Formed the basis

for the original Series called tales of the Jedi

So I know when you and I talked about like what

Star Wars stories would I recommend I mentioned

our campire in fact dark Empire something I always

recommend to people But especially for those

that want to focus on the characters they know

from the movies For those that don't care if

they read characters in the movies or not, and

they just want good Star Wars stories I do refer

people to the tales of the Jedi because it is

just really good it takes place centuries before.

It's like the beginning of the Jedi. It's the

beginning of the Sith and everything. So Tales

of the Jedi is awesome, but the really awesome

thing is that there's elements in that that are

from Dark Empire. So that you start seeing these

comics in time periods interweaving and it makes

for a really cool cohesive story. Absolutely.

So this is... Well, it isn't as long as Thrawn,

thank God. This is 15 comics instead of 18, so...

Or cohesive artwork. Whether you like it or not,

it's cohesive. Alright, I'll go ahead and get

this out of the way now. The only thing I absolutely

cannot stand about the art, and thankfully it

changes as it goes along, in the beginning here,

is the coloring, the shading, the constant...

Facial expressions being blue tan like matching

the background. I don't want to see a blue face

princess Leia If I want to see a blue face alien,

I'll watch the fifth element. Thank you artsy

Yeah, well it the artsy fartsy can go fart off

for all I care Now it's only with the characters

that I do not like the art style, okay The backgrounds,

the Millennium Falcon, all that stuff, the TIE

fighters, it all looks amazing. It's just the

character stuff. Now, what about the characters?

Like, I'll give you an example, like Boba Fett,

where you don't see his face, it's still like

the armor and everything else. Like, so you're

not having to worry about likenesses and stuff

like that. Yeah. Well, I've never seen, but well,

okay. When we did the comic in episode 66, obviously,

but like... In regards to the movies, we never

really saw Boba Fett's face in the original trilogy.

We only saw the helmet, so that doesn't matter.

That's the same thing with Darth Vader. It's

like, you know... having Darth Vader you know

having a red light shown on his statue later

in the in this it's like you know who cares.

Well I guess what I meant was that you said like

when it comes to drawing the characters and seeing

the characters they you didn't care so much.

Where you see the facial characters where you

you know like okay the the very first page here

when it first opens up and you have on the top

On the top left, you have Leia and Han, and yes,

it's artsy, but it also looks like a seven -year

-old did it. It does not look like a seven -year

-old did it. It just doesn't. If you can find

a seven -year -old that can draw like this, I

want to meet them because I've got to figure

for them ahead of them. I'm exaggerating, obviously,

but I'm just saying, it just doesn't look...

If they had taken the covers, like the covers

to all the issues, and the covers were what the

art was, I'd be fine with it. I'd have no problem

whatsoever. It's very photorealistic, that's

why. Yeah, exactly. The covers are photorealistic.

If you're gonna go photorealistic, go photorealistic.

Don't just sit there and go half ass on it. So

I don't know if you know a lot of artists by

name or anything like that, but... Would you

say then you're someone that like someone that

that's more like a Greg Land who is very photorealistic?

It depends it depends on the comic it depends

on the characters, okay Because there's certain

okay There are certain let's say Batman titles

that I prefer more than others and there are

Certain turtles artists that I prefer more than

others, but overall, at least now with the IDW

turtles stuff, it all is kind of cohesive. It

just depends on who's doing what. And as long

as the art style for the characters is not like

so totally out of whack, I'm usually all right.

Now let me ask the total side tangent here, but

let me ask you since, are you up to date on the

turtles? Like are you, have you read like issue

52 or whatever it is? Oh yeah. Are you kidding

me? So what do you think of the art in those?

Cause they've changed artists in 51 and 52. Yeah.

It's like I said, it's, it's, it's something

to get used to. Yeah. But with, you know, Santa

Luca had been doing it for the longest time.

Corey Smith had been, yeah, Corey Smith had been

doing it. Um, you know, even when, when, uh,

Sophie Campbell was doing it, uh, you know, I

don't mind the turtle art changes because the

way IDW does that is it's by arc. Every new arc

is a new artist and a new different thing. I

don't mind saying this because I interviewed

Tom Walz and he told us in the interview. the

the upcoming turtle stuff uh... fifty one fifty

two fifty three fifty four those are both to

fifty one fifty two or two part one part two

story fifty three fifty four are part one part

two story and fifty five is kind of a standalone

and then fifty six is gonna start the next new

art where santa luca's gonna be back so uh...

i don't mind that it's just i'll say right now

this art is infinitely better Than the throng

yeah At least my eyes didn't bug out when the

lettering changed like they did in the throng

trilogy I asked about the turtles art because

I've been a fan of the art from issue one up

until now and I really like the way the current

guy draws the turtles, I don't really care how

he draws a lot of the other characters. So like,

April Neal to me looks like she's in her 40s

now with how he's drawing her. Same thing with

Casey and somebody and I'm like, they're supposed

to be in their 20s or late teens even. So that's

the only reason I asked since you had mentioned

the turtles. I was like, let me get his idea

on the art. Yeah, it just, like, Casey and April,

it specifically depends on the artist. Like,

did you read that in me? And I know, people,

this is supposed to be Star Wars, but we're off

on a tangent. That's what Star Joe's is all about,

so if you're used to those tangents, check us

out, too. Have you read the Casey and April mini

-series? Yes. Did not care for the art. Story,

I thought, was pretty creepy. That's where I'm

kind of the opposite. The story, I'm waiting

for them to pay it off in the ongoing. I did

not care for the story. I liked the art a little

bit more. The best thing for me that came out

of the Casey and April 4 issue miniseries. The

Hockey Heart logo. That was amazing. That was

the best thing that came out of that. All right.

Let's talk about the art for this. I'll give

you a couple analogies to it as far as other

artists that I can kind of see maybe like influences

or at least similar styles. I'm a big fan of

Chris Boccello. I think he's a fantastic artist,

but he's very stylized and he does not sit well

with everybody. And I see like That kind of in

this artwork I also see a little bit of John

Romita jr Which is kind of funny because I don't

like John Romita jr's art, but I love this art

So there's a lot of those straight cut lines

like a little bit of stiffness to some of the

characters and everything else Which is what

John Romita jr. Does these days but this had

a little bit more flow to it like Romita jr's

artwork I feel is a little too stiff. This I

didn't feel like it was as stiff, but there are

definitely like some stiff cutting, straight

cutting lines and stuff like that sometimes with

the characters. I think this art's beautiful.

Man, I would love to own a page of it. But again,

it's one of those art styles where I know when

I recommend it to someone, there's a good chance

they're not going to like it. Like I said. The

backgrounds, how the Falcon looks, all that is

amazing. Absolutely. You look at the second page

with the Falcon flying in through the debris.

It looks wonderful. You look at a few pages later

here in issue one with it set across the backdrop

of the red sky with the blue moon. It looks amazing.

Like I said. The image of Han and Lei in the

very beginning, what it reminds me of is more

so the Metal Gear Solid, the original game on

PlayStation 1, the burst transmissions when they

were doing that. That's what it reminds me of,

but it's so much worse than that. And I really

like it because I know definitely who the characters

are when I look at them, but they're not... Drawn

to necessarily look like the actors in the movie.

So I still know it's Han I still know it's Leia

because it looks and like them, but I don't I

don't Yeah, it does not have to be kid the Carrie

Fisher likeness or the hum or the Harrison for

I mean, you know, I'm looking at the page where

Han's saying oh great. They're between us and

the Falcon it looks like Han Solo. He's got his

vest, his what? And he's got his blaster. It

looks like Han Solo, but it doesn't necessarily

have to be a photo. If you're going to choose

an art style, choose an art style and stick with

it. Don't go back and forth between two different

styles of whatever. Would I have loved to have

seen this more photorealistic? Sure. But like

I said, as the arc goes on, as the story progresses,

the art For me, progressively gets better. By

the end of this, I didn't... Because what I think

has it changed, right? Um, yeah Well, and I would

say it's not even so much maybe that the art

changed but more so well two things would happen

and this happens with a lot of Artists and so

if you get on a series for a while you start

getting comfortable drawing those characters

So yes, the art can get better because they're

getting more and more used to drawing those characters

It happens all the time. The other thing is that

the coloring changed as well. So like you were

talking about earlier They didn't stick with

the overlapping color palette, which personally

I did like. I like to because sometimes I do

like to really stylized stuff and this seems

stylized not in as much art as it was in the

coloring choices. But yeah, as the series goes

on, they kind of do more traditional coloring

of characters and stuff like that. So I think

that helps with the art as well. I will tell

you one of the pages I absolutely love early

on is and I have the the hardcover Collection

here in front of me and so it's on page 16 and

17 It's that double page splash where it's like

the adat walkers are there the Falcons flying

in the upper right corner You've got these huge

like crash TIE fighters and stuff and you got

like stormtroopers Shooting at the rebels and

the rebel alliance and stuff like that. I could

look at this double page spread for hour and

still find new stuff like like finding a new

stormtrooper hidden behind something or a new

Ship in the background or something like that.

So When it comes to art like that in that sense

where I'm like man I can really dig into this

and look into this and I am NOT a big art person

people that listen to our show will tell you

will tell you for sure like I like art, and I

think art is crucial to comics, obviously. I'm

not... obviously. Well, I mean, there's some

people that say, oh, I'm a total art person when

it comes to comics. I'm a total writer person

when it comes to comics. I really am both. If

you don't have the writing, then you just have

a bunch of pinups that you can hang up. You have

an art museum. if you don't have the art, then

you just have a prose novel. So you definitely

need both. But when it comes to what will drive

me in reading a story, it is more the writing

than the art. I can deal with a comic that has

bad art, but has a really good story more so

than I can handle a comic that has really awesome

art. But the story is horrible. Well, you know,

you take a look at Batman Beyond 2 .0, Batman

Beyond Universe, whatever you want to call it,

the Kyle Higgins run on Batman Beyond, and whether

it's Tony Silas, whether it's the guys, Phil

Hester and the guys that did the Justice Lords

arc, or whether it's the guys that did the Phantasm

arc. All of that stuff. There's a few things

here and there that kind of don't line up to

the aesthetic of the animated series for Batman

Beyond, but overall that, like, yeah, I'm like

you. I'm more so invested in the story than the

art in most of the time, but I'm sorry, if I

get a huge splash page of the Batmobile from

Batman Beyond, yeah, you bet my eyes are gonna

bug out and be like, oh wow, that's awesome.

Well, and that's exactly what I meant. With this

this the two page spread that I was referring

to it's like I see that and I'm like, okay I'm

gonna look at this page for a while I've already

read the panels, but I am NOT turning the page

just yet Just leave it here and leave it as a

desktop, you know, right image or something Yeah,

the other thing I thought was awesome early in

this story Was not too many pages after that

was Luke's arrival in the middle of this battle

scene. There's an ad at Walker and this scene

just shows how powerful Luke is as a Jedi at

this point. He just walks right out there. This

thing starts, the Adetwalker starts shooting

at him. He's able to deflect the blasters and

then cripple the Adetwalker just by waving his

hand. I'm like, okay, Luke was already a badass

in my opinion in Return of the Jedi when he walked

into Jawa's palace. This is like beyond that

Yeah One thing I never expected out of this was

how when this started that it was Well, okay,

Han and Leia are married. I kind of expected

but it's like You have You have four people you

have Han and Leia and you have Luke and Lando.

Okay, I never expected Luke and Lando to be team

together Yeah, like is you know, like it's just

one of those things where you always expect Han

and Lando to be team together the two scoundrels

You know you you expect that and you expect the

brother and sister and I thought it was awesome.

I thought that was really cool It's a cool team

up like yeah, they definitely played around with

a lot of the the known pairings and stuff like

that that you would have in the past. One of

the things that I like about this story also,

especially being timely right now, is this essentially

was The Force Awakens before The Force Awakens,

because this is all we had. I mean, it takes

place a lot earlier than The Force Awakens is

going to take place. But this is what we had.

It's like, OK, like you said, Han and Leia are

now married. They're having kids. Luke is this

master Jedi. He's looking to start a school.

Like it was this big jump ahead that we were

like, oh, these characters are in a place that

we don't know because the gap wasn't filled in

yet. We we had the Thrawn trilogy, which was

five years after Return of the Jedi. And then

we had this, which was six years after Return

of the Jedi, six to ten years. And so. that was

this big story jump where it's like now when

you're reading this if you read the comics or

you read the books or you read both you're like

trying to piece it together like okay these two

are married and that's what I'm wondering with

The Force Awakens like are we gonna see Han and

Leia together were they married are they still

married you know things like that are the things

I'm really curious about when it comes to the

upcoming movie well they do say that her name

is General Leia Organa Solo so I assume Doesn't

mean they're still together. I know divorce people

that's still happy. Yeah, I know but I'm just

saying I would assume that Someone said either

on Facebook or Twitter, I saw something somewhere

last couple of days If JJ Abrams does not get

Star Wars episode 7 right, he will never get

another directorial job in Hollywood. He will

never work again. I don't think that might be

a bit of a stretch. I didn't say it. I don't

know who said it. Somebody else said it. It wasn't

me. Everything I'm seeing says that he's getting

it right. Yes, I'm sure there's going to be...

people that will tear it apart and say it's one

of the worst Star Wars movies ever. I'm sure

there's gonna be people that will gush over it

and think everything is fantastic about it. I

might be leaning more towards that side. You

think? But I'm a realistic fan. If there's something

I don't like in it, I will say it. I mean, I

don't hate the prequels, but I don't... But I

definitely see flaws in them. I see flaws in

the original trilogy. But I still love it. It

depends on which version you're watching. I still

love the original trilogy because it's nostalgic.

It's what I grew up with. And seeing the trailers

for this movie that's coming up, I felt like

that eight -year -old kid again. I felt like

I was going back to being a child. And that's

what Abrams did. Has done so far for me. Will

he do that when I'm actually in the theater watching

it? I don't know. I'm hoping so But um, yeah,

did you see the um, I posted on facebook at some

point or another in the last few weeks, uh Someone

I found something somewhere where someone took

the original trilogy and did it the original

trilogy trailer kind of thing and did it in the

style of force like basically took the Force

Awakens trailer music and have you seen it? I

thought it was fantastic. Much like I love, I

actually adore and love the one where they did

the original trilogy like the Guardians of the

Galaxy movie trailer. Oh god, I don't think I

saw that. Oh, it's fantastic. So like watch the

Guardians of the Galaxy movie trailer to refresh

your memory of what it was like. And then watch,

all you have to do is literally type in Star

Wars Guardians of the Galaxy. It'll be the first

thing that probably pops up. And it's a trailer

that they did in the exact same style as the

Guardians of the Galaxy movie trailer. It's like

Leia saying like, you know how in the Guardians

of the Galaxy movie trailer, it's like the hot

shot. I can't remember how they referred to each

character, but they referred to each character

when they do that with the Star Wars characters.

And they're like, you know, like my brother.

Stuff like that with Leia saying that. And then

there's like a moment where, and they make it

comical just like the Guardians of the Galaxy

trailer. So it was like a moment where the Emperor

says, soon you will be mine. And then you hear

Luke go, I don't think so. Which is from the

whole nother scene. And then you hear like somebody

saying, like I think it was Vader saying something

dark and ominous. And then. So when Luke goes,

I don't think so, Vader goes, what? Which is

a trench run when Han hits them. So it's hilarious.

It is totally worth watching. I have watched

it at least 50 times because it just cracks me

up every time I watch it. It's kind of like me

with the Batman Beyond 75th anniversary Darwin

cook. Oh, it's fantastic. Oh God, I could watch

that on the loop. All right back to Dark Empire

Basically the entire story boils down to Emperor

clones. Yeah and world devastators That's essentially

the entire story Emperor clones and world devastators

and I'm not saying it's a bad thing But I as

I'm reading this and I'm going through and I'm

like, okay that's okay he wants her to she just

had a when were the twins born uh... uh... i

think the twins are born in this story aren't

they if i'm remembering right so by the time

dark empire two comes around she's pregnant again

yes there's another kid was so is that the but

are you telling me you know something a little

bit Well, I know but okay. Yeah, I get that but

I'm trying to make it funny here. It's like,

okay She went through the first nine months.

She had twins. Okay, you know the heart wants

with the heart No, I know Han was a way better

a better joke about that would it be the Han?

Little while yeah, they hadn't seen each other

in a while. Are we sure it's Han? Oh, boy. Once

you go Wookie, you don't go... Thank you, Greg,

it's my Wookie bitch now. So, my question here

is, is that... If she had the twins, and... what?

four months after the ninth month of having the

twins she's all of a sudden pregnant again or

is it like a year has passed i don't really know

how fertility works in the galaxy i don't think

we want to know but i'm just i'm really really

wondering about the timing here because how much

actual time between dark empire one and two you

you put a lot more thought into this than i did

Just curious as far as the release of the book

how much I don't know Oh as far as like when

they were actually released or and they were

like we're cropped in the story how long too

much time I mean of her being pregnant in the

first book and having the twins and then the

timing of when the second book comes out and

we realize she's pregnant again, so All I can

tell you is, well you probably know the years,

but as far as when the actual books came out,

the Dark Empire first came out in 1991, and then

Dark Empire 2 was originally released in 1994,

and went through 1995, so it was three years

between the stories. That works. We'll just work

with that logic. Yeah, that works, sure. And

you see you see the kids much later actually

being active because obviously this is only six

years after return She just had the babies and

everything else So you have to jump ahead at

least 15 years in the future to see these kids

doing something So I go get a Florian, please

Well, what I recommend doing is like, you know

when these stories take place There is a timeline

out there that shows when other stories take

place how many years after and everything else

If you want to check out what's happening with

the kids, you better steer me in the right direction

this time. I gave you a very solid story here.

This is one of the best all time. I'm not saying

it's not a good story. We said this last week

when we did Thrawn, you originally said, oh,

their children eventually become Jedi and they

go kicking ass. I said eventually. Yeah, well.

Not in that story. I made no promises of that.

I said they they have kids they eventually grow

up and there's whole issues with the kids and

it's kind of like back to the future like Marty

there's something about your kids something must

be It all goes back people it all goes back But

like you I like this story Yeah, and I was gonna

say one of the things that was really cool about

this story too was some of the places You got

to see that you didn't see from the movies and

again this came out This was the first comic

done by Dark Horse and obviously they've done

20 plus years Since then or did 20 plus years

since then So this was the very first story that

came out and it was, and you know, you had nothing

else before that. Um, so to see some of these

worlds that were never explored in the movies,

like you got to see Mon Calamari. Um, you got

to see, um, you know, basically squid people.

Yeah. So, I mean, there's all these worlds that

just kind of opened up. You learn, I mean, people

think that the, you know, the prequels was where

the whole. clone debacle thing started. No, the

clone debacle thing started with Dark Empire

and with the Thrawn Trilogy. So it was cool.

That was a cool thing too with the Thrawn Trilogy

in the books. Like I said, the book came out

well before they did the comic adaptation. You

had the clones going on, you know, with Joros,

Caboath, or however the heck you say his name.

So you had that and Luke Skywalker. So you had

all that going on and then with this story you

had the clone Emperor and that was how You know

at one point there that when the prequels came

out people were like, oh my god the Emperor You

know, there's so many things that that those

movies contradict when it comes to the Dark Empire

story And then when you got to see the whole

rest of the prequel trilogy people were like,

oh, maybe it's not so far off But obviously Dark

Empire came out way before the prequel movies

came out. So there was no way to know what they

were going to do in those movies. But one of

the things was the Emperor sustaining his life

by creating clones. That his mind would travel

using the Force to go into these clone bodies.

And it's like, well, that's not too far off from

really what was said in the prequels. He just

said that you could use the dark side to extend

your life. You didn't say how that worked Yeah,

there is no clear definition in the prequels

of how that works which I think is interesting

because it's even though at this point they've

thrown out the expanded universe, but I mean

in you know going back and just looking at it

as the Original sextology with the with the the

six films This really does work. Yeah even when

you compare this to Attack of the Clones and

Revenge of the Sith, because I'm sorry, none

of this can be compared to pod racing. One of

the things, one of the cool characters too that

again plays into the Tales of the Jedi that I

was referring to earlier, is there's the one,

she's like this old hag of a character, Vima.

Very cool, creepy, weird -ass character. She

has ties back to the Tales of the Jedi era, and

they show that in the Tales of the Jedi, which

came out after this. So you read this story,

and you're like, okay, this is a weird, crazy

character, and then all of a sudden you read

Tales of the Jedi, which came out next, and you're

like... Whoa, there's a lot of connections between

these two characters and everything else. So

that was really cool. The other thing that I

really love with Dark Empire, because you can

totally see it happening, you saw hints of it

in Return of the Jedi, was Luke starts to explore

his dark side, but he does it because he thinks

he needs to understand the dark side in order

to conquer the dark side. And much like any I

mean, it's a trope. Let's face it. You see this

in many movies, many stories and everything else,

but like he gets in a little over his head. You

think? He starts having it take him over because

he doesn't understand it well enough and nor

should he be trying to understand it because

that's when you're letting it into you. The very

first, I think it's the very first cover is with

him wearing a an outfit very much that looks

like Darth Vader and that was a cool image when

this first came out is you saw this cover with

Luke dressed like his father and you're like

oh this is called dark empire is Luke in charge

of the new empire like it really made you wonder

what was going on so Goes back to the whole thing

of why isn't he in the trailer? Yeah, you got

a lot the other thing that was cool with the

stories you got a lot more of characters had

very minimal roles in Return of the Jedi or any

of the original trilogy and again, there was

nothing else out So in order to explore these

characters, this is what you had but you get

to see a lot more of Admiral Ackbar and Mon Mothma

and stuff like that like those characters are

fleshed out and obviously Admiral Ackbar plays

a big factor because it's his planet that's having

the world devastators attacking it and everything

so And you have Leia and you have Leia playing

a bigger role too in this story I mean she is

looking to save her brother and she's you know,

she's got the relationship with Han and it's

Leia was always to me a very strong character

but in the in the original trilogy But she's

I feel like they even made her a stronger character

in this story She doesn't back down. She's you

know She's there to to say she was a strong character

from the beginning Yeah, I mean, you know is

you know is sitting in a cell and then you she

grabs a blaster your hand go and look I'll get

it out of here It's like Get this walking carpet

out of my way. I mean, you know, I could have

done without in this comic I could have done

without the butt shot of the Emperor. I will

admit that Yeah, that's kind of like the whole

butt shot of what's -his -name Revenge of the

Fallen Yeah, yeah, yeah or yeah the other there's

another character to that plays that shows up

later in Tales of the Jedi and it's when you're

they're talking about it's Bodo Bodo boss He

comes up on the holocron and he starts talking

about you know, how he dealt with You know similar

situation of like the dark side taking over so

and the stuff he's talking about Plays out in

the tales of the Jedi So it's like he's talking

about the past and then it's like oh the next

story that came out from Dark Horse Shows you

what happened in the past, right? So so he said

when I when I read this and like I said if I

know someone's like eager to read Star Wars and

they don't really care like it has to have the

original cast. I go read Dark Empire first then

read Tales of the Jedi because the two work so

well together that they're fantastic. Now, Tales

of the Jedi, like I said, it's not the original

cast. You're not going to have that. But if you

like some of the characters here, you can see

a lot of the roots from Tales of the Jedi. You

know what? It's going to be really sad. I'm fully

prepared to wait for the bus to just run right

over me here. Not until Lego Star Wars did I

ever even realize what the fuck a holocron was

and then I saw it here And I'm like hey, it's

Lego Star Wars Yeah, it's the holocron was definitely

an expanded universe and the thing that I found

very interesting is Because like you said they've

thrown away all the cannon that the expanded

universe cannon and said okay everything from

now on is what cannon actually is. Well, the

thing I find interesting is the Holocron was

definitely, obviously, very definitely expanded

universe and they've kept it. So there are things

that have made their way into the current cannon.

I think what they're doing with the current cannon,

with the Marvel comics, they're creating a new

expanded universe. That's the whole reason why

the original one got thrown out. Right. It was

too tough with the original expand the universe

to say all this stuff fits in with what we're

about to do. Now since, and I totally get why

they had to wipe, so I get why they had to wipe

it out for that reason. I still love... The Expanding

Universe and I think I mentioned it last time

we got together I view this Expanding Universe

stuff as like a Elseworlds story like from DC

would have or a what -if story from Marvel It's

still really great stories that I love reading

But I realize it's not part of the current canon

and I'm okay with that. It's still fun stories

to read They had but now with the stories the

Expanding Universe stuff that they're creating

now It is completely and totally tied into what

is happening in the movies, what is happening

on the TV shows and everything else. And like

I said, going back to the Holocron thing, Kanan

from the Rebels animated show has a Holocron

and he references it. Well, again, Holocrons

only existed in the old expanded universe. Once

you go Lego, you know, you shouldn't throw that

out now one thing I thought was super awesome

Just an image wise like so ominous and stuff

is the Emperor's command vessel that he had which

yeah that Sucker looked like a giant coffin.

It reminded me almost like the coffin for mumra

yeah from thundercats so yeah I had that kind

of ominous look to it is all black and it just

hey when's transformers prime Megatron gonna

show up because this looks just like the nemesis

from transformers prime I love but I also love

like it's tough to say choreography because it's

a comic but like the lightsaber battles between

Luke and the Emperor uh... just work really well

uh... yeah i don't know if it was just me or

what i didn't realize how many actual lightsaber

battles were in this because half the time as

i was reading through it's like hey that guy's

got a blaster isn't this supposed to be star

wars we're lightsabers And then there's a lot

of new vehicles that were introduced with this.

There's a lot of new characters introduced. They

did a good job of expanding the universe while

still developing the stuff that people know.

And there's been figures that have been made

based off of Dark Empire, just like there was

with the Thrawn trilogy. Like I said, most people

that read Dark Horse Star Wars Dark Empire is

in their top five of the if not in the top spot

It's in the top five of what they would consider

the best Star Wars stories that were produced

by Dark Horse Absolutely, no, I love reading

the story. I mean, I thought this was this is

great this you know, so they redeemed myself

a little there a Little bit on on story quality.

Yes on the fact that The twins are still kids,

no. I wasn't trying to redeem myself on that.

But I mean, you know, as we get into Dark Empire

2, the art style, the coloring, not necessarily

the drawing, but the coloring, the colors, they

do kind of change. Like I'm looking at the page

where you see a full -on shot of Chewie next

to our two I think it's our two I don't know

well and that plays into what you were saying

to like some of the team -ups that you would

see are Really cool to that because they didn't

do them both in the past So you did have Chewie

like teaming up with our two in some cases and

so bad there's also some shots from Dark Empire

that are just Very they're very stylized, but

they're very Iconic when it comes to this story

and one of them. There's the shot of Luke Over

like commanding the Imperial forces and it's

like this Image of Luke with his hand out and

you see all the star destroyers flying out as

if he's releasing them from his hand Just very

cool. The thing I love too is the whole battle

meditation Idea that you know, the Emperor was

helping to and I think we talked about this last

time the Emperor was helping to guide the for

the his forces To battle and then when he died

he lost control that you know They became a lot

more scattered and they were easy to defeat He

shows Luke how to do that battle meditation and

everything in this so yeah, that's that's part

of Luke's train dark side training It's the whole

battle meditation, and I think that's great.

I thought that was awesome. I Just watched something

I Forget what I just watched it right before

we did this was but it was some YouTube thing

or whatever where somebody started creating a

bunch of clones of themselves. Kind of like a

Michael Keaton multiplicity kind of thing. And

they created so many clones and they ended up

killing the original. that's it killing the original

guy destroyed the rest of the co -op so what

i'm thinking here is okay so if the original

emperor is dead because you know it and but i

i get his his essence it's it's kinda like uh...

you know when you know it's gonna like uh...

uh... these machines when optimal optimists uh...

bigger when uh... you know it's uh... the in

the beast wars and optimist becomes up Optimal

optimist and rat traps like that guy goes through

more bodies than You know, so Well, and then

like another thing that is pretty sweet when

it comes to the story is They didn't really leave

a whole lot of characters out. So it would be

very easy to not do like not to shoehorn certain

characters in, and I don't think they really

shoehorn characters in, which was the great thing,

but you have characters like Boba Fett and Dengar

and stuff like that that show up in this story

and you're like, wait, I thought Boba Fett died.

So that was the cool thing, too, because they

didn't do that in the first issue. They didn't

do it in the second issue. But all of a sudden

you're reading these stories and as you go along,

you're like, wait. Boa Fett's there. What's he

doing? He's in the Starlark pit. Age for breakfast

over there. So you can imagine Star Wars geeks

that were reading this, like myself, that just

like totally lost their mind with this and were

like, okay, what does this mean? Are we gonna

get a story where we show how Boa Fett got out

of the Starlark pit? What's gonna happen? And

then you find out later that Dengar was part

of the reason that Boa Fett was able to survive

in one of the... later stories they do reveal

that he crawled out of the sarlacc pit his arm

his mandalorian armor helped to keep him from

being digested and he was able to crawl out but

he was on death's door and Dengar is the one

that found him so it's fitting that you in this

story you see Boba Fett and Dengar together so

i will tell you too when it comes to the children

here we go no i just want i want to prepare you

that There's not a lot of comics with the children

in it. There's a lot of stories. There's a lot

of books. There are some comics, and if I can

find some, I will talk about how you're not reading

any comics. Well, you said the whole point was...

One of your selling points was, oh... Haunted

latest kids grow up to be Jedi and they kick

ass This is the literal start of that But I think

I really do like said the thing I really do love

about this is is just like the the Star Wars

trilogy the original Star Wars trilogy you have

a lot of Characters going their own directions.

They have their own stories going on and then

it all comes together in the end To for one big

massive situation you have your space battles.

You have your lightsaber battles You have you

know your troops and your Vehicles that are battling

each other. You got giant. I mean you got freaking

giant robots in this thing Which is always awesome

the the world enders the world -ending missile

things that the Emperor created the Death Star

missiles, whatever they're supposed to be called

alls i can think of is man if that thing in a

drill head it would be tomorrow never dies all

over again uh... all the the dot the dot that

failed i'd be really thought of that scene in

tomorrow dies when when stampers like all it

didn't explode they might be wondering why not

though that's because it's not an explode i thought

that's exactly what that obviously this came

out before tomorrow dies but it's just i don't

know this is one of those things And then I love,

too, that when Leia does have her new child,

I love when they're like, feast your eyes on

Han Solo Jr. And I can tell you for a fact when

I read that the first time, I groaned. Because

I was like, please don't call him Han Solo Jr.

And then she called him Anakin. I was like, that's

better. Even though I realized there was another

character named Anakin. See, I groaned at Anakin.

I'm like, no. It makes sense to me. colin colin

banner something colin all that's what's good

uh... well yeah uh... yeah uh... help on mace

for all i can't think of it and it doesn't know

mace them uh... but my thinking is okra they

just named the third child and again that means

we have yet another skywalker who's going to

fuck up the galaxy all over again he's not the

one that messes up the galaxy Not to ruin it

for you. He's not the bad seed. We all knew that

farm boy was gonna go rogue. Now, when it comes

to the three kids, Anakin is not the bad one.

Oh, so it's one of the twins, right? One of the

twins, yes. And Luke does, spoiler, Luke does

marry Mara Jade. They have you know, where the

hell is she? She didn't even in this well remember

to they were creating this the same time Timothy's

on was creating his story and Timothy's on didn't

want to work with them. Oh Okay, they had to

kind of base off what's on did and kind of make

some minor changes to this story So it wasn't

until after both stories came out that they started

going. Okay people like these characters Let's

do something with them in other stories. So that's

why Mara Jade doesn't show up And but Mara Jade

and Luke they do get married and they do have

a kid named Ben Shocker of who he named that

after So yeah, there there's stuff like that

now There's also like if you ever read I don't

it's totally like in the future. But there is

a series called Star Wars Legacy, which has Cade

Skywalker, C -A -D -E. And he is like, I think

he's the great -grandson of Luke, if I'm remembering

it right. So Luke is his great -grandfather.

And it's great, because he's... Kate Skywalker's

kind of a combination of Han and Luke. He's got

some force sensitiveness, but he's also like

the smuggler type character and he He doesn't

want anything to do with the force because when

he was a kid some bad things happened and his

dad was you know strong in the force and his

dad dies and And that all happened in the first

like couple issues. So I'm not killing anything

but um, but it was one of those things where

Luke Luke's character or ghost appears to Kate

Skywalker now. He's high when it happens There's

hookah pipes and everything else But the cool

thing with that story too is guess which character

from the original Trilogy ends up hanging out

with Kate Skywalker for a while Uh, blando? Oh,

there's only one that could last that long. Oh,

that's true. It was hard too. So as much as I'm

so against drug use and all that stuff. I really

want to see a high R2 I don't think R2 gets high

You know what I mean, but no our R2 for me And

I've mentioned this on and my show is like Yoda

is my favorite character in Star Wars It's hands

down my favorite character R2 is a really close

second because R2 is like essentially the hero

of this Star Wars to it Without him they're all

dead I Mean I mean three people even says how

do you know there's something wrong with the

hyper drive the ship's computer to you and Archer

G2 You know better than to go around talking

to strange computers. I mean, yeah But like I

said that the the cool thing with this story

to the dark empire to circle back to that is

You now have a young emperor, which I thought

was cool because now you could see him actually

clash with Luke. It wasn't just this shriveled

-up man sitting in a chair that then shot you

with lightning when you threw your lightsaber

away, which is... Dumbest move you never throw

your lightsaber away But but it was cool to see

like a young Emperor who was super strong in

the dark side going up against Luke who is still

I mean He's a Jedi Knight, but he's still learning

about the force So that was cool. It was cool

seeing Leia coming into her own as being force

sensitive and everything as well So yeah seeing

that was awesome, but seeing Luke This kind of

goes against Jedi Sure, because I mean well by

the time Jedi rolled around and the whole plot

of you know I'm a Jedi like my father before

me, and I'm you know this all -powerful whatever

and in here I know it's a transition because

he wants to learn about the dark side, but it

just seems like It seems like They took away

some of his character development between episode

6 and here. Well, yes and no. I can understand

where you're coming from, but how I viewed this

story, and it's a classic story, which is just

like they did with the original trilogy. Lucas

went to classic mythologies and classic stories

and then developed it for Star Wars. Same thing

with this story, I really feel, is this is a

story of absolute power corrupts absolutely.

That's the theme of the story is that Luke was

becoming so powerful that he eventually, you

know, got corrupted by his own power. He wanted

to look more into it to be able to conquer it

basically, but in doing so he became You know

susceptible to to it as well So like I said to

me that's the whole theme with Luke in this and

to me that's a natural progression of the character

because he was becoming more powerful without

any guidance because that's the important thing

to remember he doesn't have Yoda anymore. He

doesn't have Obi -Wan anymore. He's becoming

more powerful and Again, absolute power corrupts

absolutely the more powerful you become the more

corrupted you're susceptible to becoming so right

and I understand that I agree what I'm saying

is though it just Because Jedi had to finish

the trilogy and how they ended it with luke being

you know and of course everyone still learns

throughout their life he's never gonna not stop

here but the way that that film is written and

the way the character is written it's like he's

the end all be all until you know until it needs

to actually group here and step right whatever

else you know i mean it's uh... but by the end

of that movie it's like a louke is the most powerful

did i really did i mean or school one here he's

trying to learn that more to further himself

and that's great he's trying to obviously reconstituted

in order that's that's wonderful at the same

time It still seems like some of his badassery

has been taken away Yeah, and well and the thing

is to he's trying to become a master of the force

and again He's a mass. He's trying to master

the force without him having a master, which

is that's bad mojo. You don't do that That's

that's like trying to learn karate by reading

a book not to not to Disparage the Teenage Mutant

Ninja Turtle movie that came out recently, but

you don't learn really powerful martial arts

from a book because you're going to hurt somebody

you learn it from somebody that can teach you

it and it's kind of the same thing here is Luke

is trying to learn how to master the force but

he doesn't have anyone to guide him and that's

almost really why he goes to the emperor is he

thinks that he'll be able to learn from the Emperor

and learn how to control the Force better, and

then defeat the Emperor, but what ends up happening

is it starts corrupting him. And it's a very

classic story. And you have to realize, if you're

doing a story like this, you cannot start with

Superman Luke. You can't start with Flawless

Luke. You need to have... No, no, no. I understand.

No, I get that. I understand that. I'm just saying

that in the context of... How this is supposed

to play out it just seemed like they were taking

some of the here And I understand that you know

he's gonna be built back up and whatever else

for anyone And I think we're gonna see a little

bit of this in the new movie, too I think I think

we're gonna in my eyes from everything I've kind

of seen trailer wise and what I think could happen

I think potentially I have no nothing to base

this on so I'm not spoiling anything for anyone

But it's just my own thoughts and my thoughts

have changed on the movie coming out 20 times

over because every time I see something new I'm

like oh well that can't be true anymore maybe

it's this um Luke could potentially step in as

the last savior like when the when everything

gets to its lowest point that's when Luke comes

out of exile to save I just I don't I don't think

JJ Abrams would be this ironic but I just had

the strangest thought What if it's him at the

end in the Falcon you're all clear kid I do think

that we will get a I'm sure we'll get a line

of I have got a bad feeling about this somewhere

in the movie. That's got to be in the Star Wars

movie But um, but I think Luke potentially could

come in at the end I don't think much like a

lot of people think I don't think that he's going

to have a large part in this movie. I think it's

going to be small, but it's going to be impactful.

I think he could come in potentially and save

the day, save whoever is dying or about to die

or save whoever's left after someone else dies.

And I think in that respect, he will be the Luke

that you are mentioning there where he. His exiled

himself, but now that he comes back because he

needs to he is the badass that we saw in return

of the Jedi Now turned into old bed, right? Really?

Because didn't didn't Hamill grow his beard out

for this and he looks and he's the same age Alec

Guinness was when he filmed Star Wars Which is

just blows my mind. I'm like, wow, it's like

the whole world's coming together for this. Um,

but the circle of life But I think when I say

you might see some elements of Dark Empire in

it, I think potentially in the next movie, assuming

that Hamill is still around for the episode nine,

or wait, no, eight, eight and nine, I think we

could possibly see some of the dark side creeping

into Luke, potentially. I don't know for sure.

Again, I have nothing to base it on, but you

could see that. I don't think we'll see it in

this. I don't know, because are they going to?

Don't know It's gone beyond reviewing Dark Empire,

but whatever By the time Luke You know you you

look at Jedi because if you're looking at the

film universe, it's all we can look at is to

bridge obviously between Six and seven obviously,

but it's one of those things where By the end

of Jedi he was at peace. He didn't have the pent

-up anger anymore. So What? Could have caused

him to go back on that like see this that's really

kind of worried That's one of the reasons why

I almost don't want to see him. I want them to

make the film with The characters we've already

seen and if he shows up at the end or like Luke

to me is kind of like how Empire ended. Leave

it on, you know, hanging off, you know, the bottom

of Cloud City kind of thing. You know what I

mean? Like, that's the way I think Episode 7

should be left, is it should be left on this

big cliffhanger. We then have this huge battle,

whatever else, in Episode 8. Well, I think they'll

be I think it'll be like Empire in the sense

that I think there will be an ending But I don't

I think it'll be an ending where you're like,

I need to know what happens next Because I don't

I don't want it to be an ending like episode

4 or it's like hey everybody gets awards. Bye

Right. Well and keep in mind too, and I know

you know this but when episode 4 came out They

weren't sure that was the only movie they thought

they were making And in that case you need that

closure and then they were like, oh, well, let's

do more. Um, so with this I think it will be

more like Empire I think and I thought Empire

had a definitive ending I do not want to see

it to be continued type thing. I that will isn't

young But I wanted obviously I want it to be

implied that this story is a is going to continue

and that's what Empire did is Empire ended with

them in the in the spaceship knowing that Han

was taken by the bounty hunter Lando is going

to go look for him Luke's getting his hand on

his prosthetic hand put on him and that's how

it ends and you're like okay there's more to

this story but it was still an ending there was

still a definitive ending it wasn't just like

a big cliffhanger and you're like okay to be

continued and then you're like damn i got two

years to wait for the next one The Empire is

such a better movie. It ends on such a down -ending.

That's what all life is, people. The series is

down -ending. It is. Jedi are just a bunch of

fucking muppets. I love Return of the Jedi. No,

I do too. I've said this before, and I don't

care what anyone says, I've said this before.

Revenge and return are my overall favorites out

of the entire franchise. Now you're crazy. No,

no, okay, well, the reason why I say Revenge

of the Sith and Return of the Jedi are my overall

favorites is because I've seen Star Wars, and

by Star Wars I mean A New Hope, I've seen that

so many times, I wanted to know, you know, Ben

kept saying, oh, the Clone Wars, oh this, oh

that, but I wanted to know what the fuck happened.

And that's what, say what you will about Revenge,

but that's what... Revenge gave us it gave us

what happened in the clone. Yeah, and well and

I said earlier I am NOT a hater of the prequels

at all In fact now that I've been more removed

from them being released and I've watched them

again I like them more. There is still some really

bad acting in it in all Okay, I'm saying story

wise pretty good edge in return on my favorite

story wise on that yeah i will fully admit there's

some shitty acting in the prequels i really i

don't even like if i was going to do it like

you know it was like oh hey let's go back and

let's watch all six movies before the senate

and uh... i'll start i'll start a revenge and

i'll stop it returned and i'll go to see awakens

because i'm sorry i've said this enough times

on the caster network pullback and wire on whatever

Worst love story in film history Well, and and

I will be of course I will be one that will go

back and I will watch all six movies Before and

I'll probably even watch the animated movie for

Clone Wars before I go see Force Awakens Just

to lead up to that and they said there's stuff.

I do love in the prequels There's things I absolutely

adore in the prequels and the more I watch them

the more There's things that I'm like, okay,

that's not as bad as I thought it was or remembered

it being and stuff like that. There's some stuff

I'm like, that's as bad as I remember. In fact,

it might be worse now. The only good thing about

Phantom is Darth Maul. The rest of that movie,

there's no saving it. Hey, honestly, I know some

people don't like it. I honestly didn't mind

the pod race. I loved the whole Darth Maul lightsaber

battle. Of course, I didn't even mind the Gungan

world. I don't like Jar Jar, but the Gungan world

I didn't mind. There's things like that that

I'm fine with when it comes to the Phantom Menace.

It is the weakest one out of all six movies for

me. And then there's a lot of people that say

the Clone Wars is worse. I don't think it's worse

than Phantom Menace, but I enjoy the Clone Wars

movie because... Well, Yoda flipping around with

a lightsaber that does it for me right there.

But Revenge of the Sith I really did enjoy a

whole lot. In fact, the only thing that stands

out in my head that really bothers me in Revenge

of the Sith is the only thing that really bothered

me. I can get past the, you're killing me, I

love you and you're killing me, my heart's breaking

and that's why I'm dying thing. I can get past

that. The thing I can't get that I have a really

hard time is when Vader first goes into the suit

and then he walks like Frankenstein and goes,

no! He's at a point where he has killed younglings.

He's at a point where he shouldn't be caring

I understand him asking what happened to Padme.

I totally get that. But he should be cold after

that. His reaction should be cold after that.

It should be like, so she died and he should

be like... Where that scene should have stopped

is the breathing. As soon as we heard the breathing,

move on. I agree. It's all we need. But like

I said if you want to go to the point where he

asks about Padme I totally understand it like

what's happened to Padme and the Emperor lets

him know that she died I could see I would want

him to just be like Okay, or you know something

or just doesn't say anything and just it moves

on but to do the Frankenstein no Like that part

kind of killed me See, I didn't even think it

was a Frankenstein. No, I thought they were I

thought Lucas was referencing Luke from Empire.

Yeah, see I got what you know live type Because

he like stumbles like the monster Yeah Yeah,

but I agree with you like I would have much rather

preferred it if they just ended it with the mask

going on Alright folks It's a short dark side

December because I don't know if we're gonna

get to Shattered Empire and it's probably not

gonna be Ryan on that It's probably gonna be

somebody else. I may I Might do Darth Vader volume

one. I don't have a good one it falls fails At

least you guys still have Jim coming up with

the viral really the viral episode and then the

holiday episode so And read Dark Empire. If you

read, in my honest opinion, it's my favorite

Star Wars story that's been done in comics. If

you're interested in dipping your toe into Star

Wars comics, outside of the current Marvel stuff,

you just want to read a good Star Wars comic,

I highly recommend reading Dark Empire. At least

the first story. I know it goes in Dark Empire

to an Empire's end. You can read the whole thing,

but you can read just Dark Empire and it... does

a pretty good job and it'll give you a taste

of whether you want to continue the story or

not. It's, it is a fan, in my opinion, it's a

fantastic read. Like I said, it's my favorite

one. I know it's the first thing that Dark Horse

did, but in my opinion, it's also the best thing

Dark Horse did when it came to Star Wars and

there's a lot of Star Wars that they did, so.

Yep, yes there is. Yeah, like I said, coming

up next time, we've got episode 121 with Steve

Megatron and I doing Batman Beyond 2 .0's Volume

3 Mark of the Phantasm, and then we've got Jim

and the Hologram 7 -9, which is the viral story

arc, and then the holiday issue after that. So

I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen,

if we're going to do another Star Wars thing

this year or not. And check out Star Joe's, we've

got... three episodes at least coming out this

month we've already we've already recorded three

of them so they have to come out yeah it's like

once you don't trust me i know once you record

something you have to eventually get it out because

i recorded two episodes of movie we can review

like last year earlier this year there might

be one or two episodes that i record by myself

if I find time to fit them in with the holiday

craziness. Um, but one thing we started doing,

which I think a lot of people really gravitated

towards and really like is we've started doing

character profile episodes in between our other

episodes. I started with snake eyes. I have another

character I am working on the research for, but

it's basically to let somebody know, like if

they've never, if they've heard of snake eyes,

but don't know anything about them, you can listen

to that episode and learn pretty much all the

high level overview of that character and his

history. The next character I'm going to be doing

is a very, not a very obscure Transformers character,

but it is a character from Transformers that

people might not know a lot about, but it may

be heard the name. Punch, counterpunch. No, it's

actually going to be Gears. Oh, God. So you guys

want to give me my my chip back, please. Because

I'll tell you why because Chuck our old our old

host who started the show with me loved the character

gears He had him as a kid and I thought you know

what to honor him. I will do a character profile

on gears So I don't know how long it will be

because it's not but there's a lot There's a

lot of history with the character. I found out

surprisingly. So So yeah, we're doing stuff like

that We have a 1980 best our top five favorite

movies in 1983 is coming out very soon. So Oh,

yeah, I think you can guess what mine is but

But we had four people on the episode which included

me So there are other people to guess on what

there's are theirs is but uh, yeah, no shocker

places But no I I've said many times and I say

it on that episode is Star Star Wars Return of

the Jedi is my favorite movie of all movies.

It is my favorite Star Wars movie. It is my favorite

movie of all movies. Do I think it's the best

movie ever created? No, it is not. If I go completely

objective and put my fandom aside, I would not

say it's the best movie ever created. But is

it my favorite movie? Absolutely. All right,
