About this Episode

JT and Mike wrap up their second annual Batman Month with a deep dive into Batman: Gates of Gotham, the miniseries exploring Dick Grayson's run as Batman while Bruce Wayne recovers. They discuss the story's focus on Gotham's founding families—the Waynes, Elliotts, Cobblepots, and Canes—and a villain called the Architect whose steampunk diving suit ties back to a century-old tragedy. The hosts break down the detective work, the Bat-family dynamics (including appearances by Tim Drake, Cassandra Cain, and Damien Wayne), and why Dick Grayson's approach to being Batman differs fundamentally from Bruce's. This episode marks the final installment of The Pull Bag before an extended hiatus.

Df2 and Mike here before we get into the final

episode of the 2015 Batman month here inside

Pull Bag. Here kid, I think you lost this. I

could have handled him. Coulda, woulda, didn't.

You sound just like Batman. I'm nothing like

him. Yeah, right. The mask, the attitude, the

long underwear. Drop it! I'd love to know what

happened between you two. Things change. No,

kidding. You guys used to be the greatest. Batman

and Robin, the dynamic duo. Maybe you should

ask him. I did. And you'll never guess what he

said. Things change. If you ever disrespect my

wife again, I will end you. Hello and welcome

to The Pole Bag. This is episode 109. I am Rose,

TF2 on Mike. This is the final episode for Batman

Month this year. It's coming a week late in June,

but hey, whatever. Joining me this time around

is JT from Saskatoon. Hello. Good day. How you

doing? I will end you. I will fucking end you.

You ass. Try the joke, folks. You better be careful

because the next answer to that question that

anyone asks me from a certain country, I might

be saying you might be getting an invasion. And

we'll march into your hometown and burn your

White House down. If it happens once, it'll happen

again. Okay, anyway jokes aside folks. This is

Batman month as I said we are releasing this

on June 3rd 2015 week late, that's because last

week we had TPB Showtime synergy crossover where

Amy Nicole and I talked about gem in the holograms

issue number two Friday W but we are finishing

up Batman month with the final Batman That we're

gonna talk about this year and that would be

dick Grayson So I know there was I think and

again, you'll correct me if I'm wrong But pretty

much when Bane broke Bruce's back is pretty much

when they put dick in the suit, right? Well,

that was like the first time That he had a short

run as Batman Mm -hmm, and then Bruce got better.

I Mean was he was already better. This is like

just after As real or as bats as he's sometimes

called in the fan community Bruce decided need

to go off and have a little tune -up before he

came back to full -time so Bruce or sorry dick

was Batman for a while and this is before he

had gone off into his own ongoing series as many

like it's uh... yeah this is just before they

rebranded dc comics new fifty two new forty nine

new seventy five whatever the hell they're gonna

call it this year uh... but this is just before

the new fifty two launched uh... we're talking

about today is the batman gates of gotham uh...

this is here this would be written by scott snider

and kyle higgins uh... I hear more of Kyle's

style of writing in this than I do Scott's, thank

God. Ladies and gentlemen, while Scott Snyder

has been on the Batman run for DC Comics, there's

only been one storyline, and I have not read...

What's the latest one? I've not read Endgame

yet, but between Court of Owls, Death of the

Family... zero year and endgame there's only

been one story out of those that i've read that

i absolutely really really enjoyed and that was

court of owls the rest of it so far in my personal

opinion it's not my batman um... but this is

uh... you haven't read some of that stuff so

well i've read everything up to uh... i have

not read endgame i've read through zero year

and zero year is just a metric fuck -ton of a

mess of continuity. So the story is done by Scott

Snyder and Kyle Higgins. Kyle Higgins and Ryan

Parrott are on the dialogue. Trevor McCarthy

is on Trevor McCarthy. Graham Nolan, Dustin Jinn,

and Derek Donovan are on art. Guy Major is on

colors and more. When did you first read this

or how did you feel with them putting Grayson

in the suit? Well, when this first happened,

you know post You know rest in peace and all

that I kind of liked the idea like I mean for

a while is like this is my Batman Dick Grayson's

Nightwing and that's all he's good for you know,

I was like every other pissed -off fanboy in

the comics community because Batman is Bruce

Wayne Bruce Wayne is Batman like what the fuck

So but I mean over the course of a few stories

specifically a there's a four or five issue run

in Batman Whereas it James Robinson and Mark

Bagley who's one of my favorite spider -man artists

he first time he's ever done DC work Basically

did the first major art featuring Dick Grayson

is Batman and kind of solidified. You know what?

This will be fun because This is kind of return

to the classic Batman from like, you know, the

60s and 70s where he might be serious, but he

might also crack a smile once in a while. And

I was really digging this. And this this miniseries

was kind of fun. I mean, it like there's plenty

of action and everything. It focused a lot more

on the whole detective part of the Dark Knight

Detective than a lot of stories had previously.

My only gripe with the series overall really

is McCarthy's art. It's not bad. It's just something

about his character design. Like it's just it's

not there for me. But I mean, overall, and we'll

get into it is I really did dig this story. And

you're right, there are there's elements. There's

a lot of Kyle Higgins in there. I think there's

a little bit more Snyder just because there is

a lot of setup. That is capitalized on in future

issues of Scott Snyder's writing Yeah, there

is a lot of setup but I just as I'm reading this

and and this was my first exposure past or before

well right after death of the family because

I Had heard on one of the many interviews Kyle

Higgins had done on Kevin Smith's fat man on

Batman when I used to listen on that show Had

heard Kyle mention this and I heard Kevin Smith

mention this I'm like ooh Dick Grayson is Batman

I'd like to read that because I had just started

reading death of the family I had not gone full

in and gotten all of the issues for I was just

reading the main Batman story I had not gotten

the the Nightwing or the back girl issue or anything

like that So, you know, I went back and I read

this and and after reading a little bit of Kyle's

stuff already really feel this is more like I

can't tell like maybe in certain parts of the

of the villains writing in the flashbacks and

by villains I mean the canes the cobble pots

the Elliot's which the Elliot's really aren't

that like they're not that much of a villain

I mean I mean cobble pot obviously penguin and

Kane is you know like Cassandra Kane and all

that stuff but Actually, the canes are, Cassandra

Cain, that's A -I -N, these canes are K -A -N

-E, so this would be more in line with the Batwoman's

family. Okay, well. Yeah. One of the canes, I

don't know. Anyway. But I mean, in some of the

villain writing, in some of the Mayor Cobblepot

and all that, I can hear Scott, but when it's

definitely... the entire BAT family. Okay, I

can hear Scott, you know, I can hear Scott's

style in my head when I read about that douchebag

Damien. So that's kind of obvious. But as far

as like Dick Grayson and Tim Drake and all that,

that clearly to me is Higgins. It's just the

way I read into it or it's just the way that

I hear it. No, I I really dug this story. I thought

this was a nice little five -part miniseries

collected in trade. It's amazing Yeah You know

the basic story behind this is we start out in

the 1800s in old Gotham with Alan Wayne who is

Bruce's great great Grandfather or great -great

-great -great. I don't know. It's one of those

great -great -grandfather things. I think it's

great -great Okay Well, that works. That's just

great And isn't it though? Yeah, he along with

his partners the cobble pots and Elliot and Cain

are Going to reshape the face of Gotham. They

are going to you know build Gotham's future and

they hire these brothers Bradley Nicholas. Nicholas.

I was going to say Thomas for some odd reason.

Nicholas and Bradley Gate. And that's how we

get the title, The Gates of Gotham. Yeah, which

for a while everyone thinks it's the bridges.

Yeah. So, but yeah, and I love how they make

no, McCarthy makes no effort whatsoever to disguise

the fact that All the men in the cobble of cobble

pot family are short and fat And kind of pudgy,

you know, just walk a walk a walk a walk walk

And you know Alan introduces, you know Nicholas

to his I guess you the co -investors and all

that he's you know, he's allowed them to reach

the sky and The direct code is Mr. Andrews and

his brother have discovered how to conquer the

clouds. And so now they're working on connecting

everybody, which is cool. And then we go forward

to the present day. And that first image of Dick

Grayson is Batman. It's swear to me. You know,

from from Batman Begins. You know, because he's

interrogating this guy on the theft of 300 pounds

of semtex which You know, it's not quite plastic

exposed or it is plastic explosive. The point

is that's a whole lot of boom Well, we get a

shot later in the story with the cops saying

that's not that much c4 and the other cop says

that's not c4 it's sim text is a lot more of

it and it's a lot more deadly or something or

other but no i love the only thing that i have

a problem with and it's because of my vision

and and everything else the only thing i had

a problem with reading this in a physical physical

trade paperback form and on digital is the old

timey cursive writing when we get to the flashback

narrations that killed my eyes. That's my only

real negative about the book is the style of,

you know, is the font that they chose. The rest

of this I absolutely love. I love how Dick Grayson

is essentially his own Batman. I love how Commissioner

Gordon even comments on, uh, you don't handle

things like the other guy. Like, Commissioner

knows this isn't, you know... He doesn't know

who, but obviously he knows that this is not

the same Batman that they've had for X number

of years. Yeah, I mean, whether or not he knows

Bruce Wayne was Batman, you know, different question

entirely, but he knows. Yeah. I mean, he's sharp

enough to know this isn't the same guy. Yeah.

Meet the new boss. Not quite the old boss sort

of thing. I do like the moment where Batman's

interrogating this you know let's call him shifty

shall we he's interrogating shifty and he's like

okay it was gobble pot it was freaking gobble

what's that noise and boom boom and then batman's

off and at this point robin has upgraded to red

robin so he calls him in he's like the new trigrade

bridge has just blew up and robin's like yeah

it's not the only one and then like the other

two main bridges connecting like the main land

mass to like Gotham proper which is essentially

Gotham in the classic it was always intended

to basically be a darker version of Manhattan

or New York so but yeah so like the the main

the connecting bridges have all been like destroyed

and wiped out so Batman goes in there and I love

the shot of him bringing out the uh the bat grapple

guns and how he shoots off lines and then he

hooks up those lines up to like the next shot

and it's all in an effort to basically hold the

bridge up and try and save somebody. And then

after he talks to Gordon, you know, you have

that bit where he's in the back boat and he's

like, I guess it's kind of a bat sub too. And

he goes underwater and there's that really kind

of chilling scene where you see all like the

dead bodies. floating in the water and him looking

up with this, you know, almost neutral look on

his face because he doesn't know how to feel

about this. Yeah, he doesn't know how to react

to it. I mean, yeah, I mean, he's like, Dick

Grayson has been through a lot to this point

in the in the pre new 52 career, but have being

being the Batman be, you know, being under the

mantle. It's And an event like this, it's really,

really shocking to him. And I, you know, I kind

of expect that. Yeah. And it's, well, I mean,

it's, I think that's enough to chill. Even Bruce

would be kind of like, Oh, somebody going to

get hurt. You know, and the next scene we have

is I love pig with a look at pig was that they're

the most civil ways for us to have this conversation.

And it's, you know, Batman's on the desk and

finger right in his face. Trying to project the

whole I will mess you up kind of vibe that Bruce

had Mm -hmm. I think even penguin kind of he

doesn't come right out and say it but he would

know to Everybody that is yeah, everybody that

has dealt with Batman over the last 75 years

We'll know if it's not the same guy under the

mask because of the way the Well, because of

the way that... the way they both had... Dick

Grayson is not Bruce Wayne. Dick Grayson, I mean,

we learned that in Robin's Reckoning in Batman

the Animated Series. Or not... not Robin's Reckoning,

I'm sorry. My favorite one. Old Wounds. We learned

that in Old Wounds, you know, where Batman's

like, do it, interrogate him, blah, blah, blah.

But his... but his... Batman, his family. No,

we need the information, we need it now! You

know, it's like, no. Dick Grayson would not do

it this way. Dick Grayson would not go the hard

edge. Dick Grayson has had a horrible life. Don't

get me wrong. I mean, his parents died right

in front of him, all that stuff. But there's

a glimmer of hope with Dick Grayson. Bruce, at

this point in his life, he has so far gone down

the path of it's whatever's good for the mission.

It doesn't matter as long as it gets done. Yeah,

it's not not the whole ends justify the means

but definitely Something along those lines because

he won't kill. I mean well expression of that

Yeah, there's one thing Bruce will not do but

I'm looking at these scenes with penguin and

As much as I like McCarthy's art here, and this

is really outside of McCarthy's covers for other

books that he's done, this is really the only

thing I've ever seen him do. I know he had a

run on Batwoman for New 52, I think. I think

he did. I could be wrong about that, but this

is really the only time I've ever seen his art,

and I really dig his Penguin, but some of his

facial features for Batman, like in... Like when

he says when he's asking him which bridge and

he has the oak Batman has his mouth open That

just looks weird to me. I know it's not supposed

to it's supposed to look like Dick Grayson's

mouth But it just I don't know it just hit me

the wrong way yeah, no McCarthy did do some work

on the the volume one of Nightwing in the 90s

and on the Batwoman title in like 2012, but yeah,

I like how Penguin almost He's got this very

almost shark -like look to him with McCarthy's

art, especially when you see him smile with those

teeth. Yeah. Although I do like the line where

Batman, you know, he's like, he knows like Penguin

hasn't really copped to it. But, you know, Penguin

sold this guy the Semtex and then Batman's, I

wonder what else he might blow up. And Penguin's,

I've never met the man, though I'm told he wears

a rather interesting looking suit. Though you

didn't hear that from me. You know. And we go

back to the Bat Bunker because at this point

they've kind of shut down the Batcave and they've

moved into the first satellite Batcave which

was underneath the classic Wayne Foundation building

with like the giant tree that hid an elevator.

This is just in the classic, this is in the comics

just after Robin left for college in Batman's

like, you know what, I need to be close to the

action. If I want to punch somebody in the face,

I don't have to wait 10 minutes. Well, with the

Batmobile, I mean, let's say, for example, Wayne

Manor is 30 miles outside of Gotham City proper.

With the Batmobile, you can get there in five.

I mean, it's not, you know. And if Bruce Wayne

wants to punch somebody a face or he wants a

diet coke he wants it right? Yeah, I'm gonna

have to put that into the answer everybody knows

what the hell we're talking about He's rather

hard to miss yeah, so we go back to the bad bunker

and Honestly, I'm at the point in my life where

I'm just not comfortable calling another man

dick So, you know I said dick Dick Grayson and

Tim Drake or you know, they're they're trying

to trying to be the Texas you're trying to figure

this out and they're they keep going back to

the gates of Gotham reference which You know

all of a sudden Cassandra Cain pimps in And then

Robin the asshole the the worst Robin in Batman

history shows up I think he's he's still better

than the what's -her -name the spoiler No, I

like Stephanie did cause a gang war that almost

leveled Gotham City because she was pissed at

Batman or he was But Damien wanted to destroy

the world just like his great -grandfather or

his grandfather, Ra's Rachel Gould. So the fact

that Damien is part of the Al Gould family and

the fact that he is such an asshole in most everything

I've read him in or seen him in as far as movie

-wise, I just wish they would have had him fucking

stay dead. I cannot stand Damien Wayne. No, really

Mike tell us how you feel that's never gonna

change so anyway Cassandra pimps in and She's

because at this point they've got Batman incorporated

to you know on the go and she is the Batman of

China basically and She has been tracking the

semtex and then you know Damien comes in and

as usual if you thought Batman like Bruce Wayne

was a complete bastard. You haven't met the next

generation. Yeah, and They go and they show They

look at the deeds and they decide to look at

who built the bridges originally Mm -hmm, and

they're like, who are we talking about in the

Elliot's? So we go to Arkham Asylum and we end

the first issue with Hush, you know all bandaged

up like the invisible man and some dude in a

steampunk diving suit Inviting him out to play

Okay, so that's why they kept calling him see

I see folks that's why JT's here cuz I have never

read hush It's just not something really across

you really should it's a really cool Batman story

It's not that I don't want to is just something

that has never come across my desk So it's one

of those things where I'm like bandage man. I

thought the bandage man was Was this Tommy Elliot

guy and their parents so what you're saying is

Tommy Elliot was hush Yes, he was like yeah,

okay, sorry I almost sneezed there Tommy Elliot

was hush And it is one of like a lot of people

specifically our friend Ben likes to crap all

over Jeff Loeb's writing and I'll admit Jeff

Loeb isn't the greatest writer in the world But

he did give us the initial arc of the Superman

Batman title like pre -52 and he wrote the script

for my favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie commando

So he gets a lot of leeway And but hush is it's

it's a it incorporates a lot of Batman villains.

There's a pretty Decent mystery. So if you ever

get the chance check it out. Yeah So we go to

the second issue. This is I Love all of these

covers. I really do Trevor McCarthy did an amazing

job on these covers No, it's this I've got actually

the the digital copies Yeah of this like the

individuals, but yeah, the these are absolutely

beautiful. Like they got a great gothic feel

to them And like I said, it's I'm not a huge

fan of his interior art, but his covers cannot

be argued against Because I mean this cover for

issue 2 you've got like statues of the founding

fathers of Gotham like Alan Wayne and such in

the back you know, and then you've got like the

Batman and Diving suit here back -to -back and

they got like this red, you know angry looking

gargoyle and It's just Where's hordak when you

really need him? Yeah So this is a part two of

five the four families of Gotham And we start

off with an explosion and we start off with The

the narration that I can barely read Like I could

read it so yeah, you don't have to if you don't

want to but basically But it's the it's basically

entailing like the The the first cash is like

most beginnings the future of Gotham started

with an explosion this time frame according to

the text this is about 1840 where Alan Wayne

hasn't really come into power yet. It's judge

Solomon Wayne You know commissioned architects

Cyrus pin pinky or pink knee to construct a series

of buildings based on his Designs and this is

essentially where we get a lot of the classic

Gotham architecture Started we see You know Nicholas

and his brother the gates, you know, they arrive

in Gotham as children And they go to work at,

you know, essentially Wayne Enterprises Learning

their trade becoming craftsmen and architects

and around 1877 They meet Alan Wayne who commissions

them to build these bridges. And Alan Wayne,

as much as he is not gonna, and I know from reading,

outside of the Wayne family that was involved

in the Civil War and the Underground Railroad,

not a lot of his family members have that vigilante

DNA in them. But with Alan Wayne, you get a sense

of where Bruce gets his... Love Gotham. I want

to you know build the city up like and that's

something really carries over through the dialogue

and the arc You know that Alan Wayne's he is

doing this out of love for Gotham. You know,

he wants to see it grow He wants to see it prosper

and then like cobble pot He doesn't want to make

a lot of obscene amounts of money and eat raw

fish. So Yeah The cobble pots have always been

villains folks Well, I wouldn't necessarily say

villains, but they've definitely been really

shady mothers Yeah, yeah So they go on discussing

this whole project and shaping the future of

Gotham. Wayne Tower is going to be the center

of it. It's going to be the landmark, the beacon

for everything. The Canes have Cane County. The

Elliotts have one of the other bridges, and the

Cobblepots have one of the bridges. So as time

passes, we see that Wayne Tower is built. And

we get the line at the end as we transition back

to the present we get the line the families will

fall by the gates of Gotham yeah in that meeting

with You know Elliot and call upon that and the

gates are sitting there it's it kind of starts

something capitalizes later on in the story how

they Start the the gates kind of start thinking

that they're part of this family of families

now You know because they're in there and they're

building these bridges they're building they're

helping build this city So and then we get back

to the aftermath of some of these explosions

Actually, I think no, this is the assault on

Arkham Where they are right, you know, ah product

placement yeah, and they're watching the video

of diving suit abduct Hush, and you see the aftermath

that, you know, he broke in and he wrecked a

lot of people's shit on his way to Hush's cell.

And even Robin's, like, looks kind of steampunkish.

Yeah. And I love how Gordon's being a cop, and

he's like, if he's our bomber. I was like, Jim,

you've been working this town for how many decades?

If the dude's wearing a funky suit, he's the

goddamn criminal behind this. Yeah, Jim's not

too smart in this one, is he? Well, I know. I

mean, he's got to be a cop. But I mean, you know,

it's like, are you sure the Joker did this? Somebody

carved a smile into the guy's face and spray

painted a ha ha on his chest. Was it the penguin?

There's a panel right after. Right after Batman

asks Red Robin if he wants to take the security

footage There's a panel right there of Commissioner

Gordon's face as he's looking at them That's

it's the it's on the very bottom of I'm trying

to think here. It would probably be page 34.

Most likely it's right before they Where he's

kind of looking over and it's like Gordon Batman

Robin. Yeah and I'm sorry, that does not... it

looks like... it looks like somebody broke his

neck. It looks like he's fucking dead. Yeah,

the perspective's kinda like the hill. Yeah,

the perspective is all wrong. It just looks so

weird. I get what you're saying. So we have the

villain and Hush walking through the sewers,

I believe. Let's just call them diving suit for

now. Eh, villain, diving suit, whatever. Steampunk's

Scuba Man. You better be careful, that might

be Old Man Withers under that mask. It's always

Old Man Withers under that mask. I still like

Tommy's dialogue. I want you to know I respect

what you're doing, the why of it all. I've given

you access to what you wanted, so I'm going to

recommend you listen to a request of mine. If

you want to get out of this alive, you'll stay

away from the Wains. Because if you don't...

I'm gonna kill you." And then he's like, huh?

Where'd the guy go? And it's just like Donkey

Punch. He's like, ah, fuck you. And then we go

to Damien Wayne being Damien Wayne. Now, that's

a character that should have been named Dick

because that's all he is is a giant fucking douchebag

dick. He was raised to lead the League of Assassins,

but he can't keep his fucking mouth shut. Yeah,

and then then he's making that crack is like

the black bat destined to lead the League of

Assassins to glory And I could almost hear him

say I could almost totally imagine going poppycock

He's like I'm not impressed I Like how she just

kind of gives it that Batman look yeah, she does

and then he's like and it's for this is a Batman

response is like There's a back entrance to the

Iceberg Lounge from the alley. Keep your eyes

at the front. Meanwhile, Batman is breaking into

the Elliot's Mansion, which is like right down

the street from Wayne Manor. Or no, wait, is

it the Elliot's? No, wait, wait, wait. No, it's

the Elliot's Mansion. OK, I thought it. Oh, yeah,

yeah, yeah. Practically down the street from

Wayne Manor. It's basically down the old country

road where we find stately Wayne Manor. Yeah,

yeah. And for all we know, there is a giant hush

cave underneath this one. I'm just saying stands

to reason. So Dick goes in and, you know, it's

basically he says like the Elliot's have been

here since as long as the Waynes have. They started

the Gotham Herald, you know, because the Waynes

was industry. The cobble pots was steel. And

the Elliot's were newspaper men for many years.

And I mean, back in the 1800s, if you read a

newspaper, you were a powerful man because you

printed the truth. You reported, you know, the

goings on. And that gave you an unprecedented

amount of political power. Now you're looking

if you can keep the lights on. The only thing

that puzzles me now, I know in this story, they

say that the families of Gotham. And they say

the Waynes, the Elliotts, and the Cobblepots.

The Canes are in there, but they aren't in there

until like the very, it's almost like they're

a, they're a, like a last ditch resort to bring

in a fourth family to find, to find some way

to connect Gotham to Cane County. And I'm like,

what the hell did the damn Canes do? What are

they, what are they, just farmers? It's like,

I don't know. No, I mean, there is, uh, the Canes

have a history. In Gotham City, it's in there

of the four main families. I mean really before

the hush arc, which introduced Tommy Elliot you

never like that was something Jeff Lowe came

up with but Over the years other writers had

taken that and kind of run with it and built

it up that there are these four not the three

families like the cobble pots the canes and the

wains and all that in fact the whole cobble pots

Being part of Gotham's history. That's never

up until around this time in the comics I'd never

really been a thing and I think that's kind of

Sort of maybe influenced by the Batman series

With the whole backstory of crouching tiger hidden

penguin being like the last scion of this once

formerly great rich family dynasty in Gotham

So I mean, but it's, it's a cool idea that, you

know, and it certainly goes with Penguin and

builds, you know, the, his, it makes his backstory

a little more interesting that he's this former

super criminal turned entrepreneur, you know,

turned kind of gangster. And it works a lot better

for the character. If he not, I mean, sure. If

he built himself up from nothing and such, sorry,

I'm rambling here. It's just, you know, it's,

it's cooler for the backstory. It makes him being

this gangster, it gives it a little more weight,

I think. So we've got the Bat family trying to

figure out all this mess. We go to the Iceberg

Lounge, of all places, and Penguin is going to

basically scold one of his henchmen about a ringing

phone. And he's like, it's not coming from me!

Well, it's a ticking gift you never open the

ticking gifts penguin Yeah, and we go back to

a bad man is in the Elliott Mansion, oh, hey

look there's Alfred in the bat bunker It's about

time you showed up elf Just really never showed

up in that whole first issue that I noticed.

Yeah, and then you know Robin tells Batman that

he's detected element or you know, elements of

Semtex in the Iceberg Lounge. And then Damian,

you know, pipes in, it's like everyone's leaving

thing, he's going in along with Cassandra. Yep,

and they get to this bomb, which it's a modified

Deadman switch, and they shouldn't be messing

with it. Specifically, when I say they, I mean

him, Damian, Dickhead Damian should not be messing

with that bomb. All you can do it. No, you can't

you are not the little engine that could So he

screws it up blows everything up I don't screw

it up. But again, this is not something you can

actually answer like Cassandra, you know grabs

them and you know Bamps out of the building just

before the bomb goes and they means like no I

got this and You know, maybe he would have maybe

he wouldn't have but it's it's one of those storytelling

elements that it helps provide or drive Characters

forward in the story Mm -hmm. And then as in

the aftermath of these explosions we get more

excerpts from what this point I'm assuming as

something that like it we find out later where

the dialogue comes from but there's this Running

commentary from the old days. That's played out

over top Yeah, and then you see Damien's losing

his shit and he's like trying to attack Cassandra

and Just like in any good action movie. Don't

forget what matters. You're alive You're welcome

ass Yeah Then then hush drops the gates It's

not what, it's who. And then we go and we see

back to the construction of the new tri -gate

bridge, the gates, you know, it finally comes

full circle. The gates of Gotham are the Gates

brothers and they're wearing, you know, the steampunk

diving suits. Yep. Yep. And that's how this one

ends. The next one, we have another brilliant

cover with steampunk diver on the top, Batman

in the middle, and Gotham at the bottom. I wish

comics would do more of this. That's one thing

I love about this style that Trevor McCarthy

is doing. There's so many little things around

the edges and the sides. It really makes you

feel like you're reading something that came

out of the 1800s. Yeah, I mean the detail work

is great. What I like about this cover with Batman,

you know, kind of sheltering Gotham City and

you see the glow of the lights and then there's

the diver looming large in the background. There's

all the gears and wires. What I like about this

cover specifically is it evokes a kind of almost

horror movie poster vibe, like kind of dark and

creepy and malevolent almost. I really dig that.

When we get into the story, Wait wait wait part

three the key to the city Yeah, and then as we

get in we see how over It's it's kind of a snapshot

over the years and what happens with like Nicholas

Gates, you know, they finish Wayne Tower He gets

married. He has a baby You know, and like I said

in the last issue This is really where you can

see it's getting into the gates heads that they're

they're part of the upper crust They're part

of the 1 % you know they're building Gotham and

that just down the way like especially the next

page where you look over the uh the map of what

they're where they start building like the fourth

bridge and then where they're planning to go

from and all that uh Alan Wayne like he kind

of sets the hook he's like your family now as

far as i'm concerned your family now and that

just kind of oh this can't end well Mm -hmm.

No, and we know when we go back to the aftermath

of Batman rescuing Tommy Elliot from the bar

the dead man's bomb that was strapped him and

he's all bloody and Well, he Batman punches a

guy when he's down, but it's not like he didn't

deserve it He's just kind of being a dick Yeah,

and then we go back to the the iceberg lounge

and you know Robin and black battered You know,

trying to find evidence and I like Damien, like

as much as he's a dick and he is. Yeah. In fact,

his I wouldn't be I'm sorry. His middle name

isn't Richard. But Batman, you know, shows up,

he asks if they're all right. He's like, oh,

just fine. At this rate, Gotham should be out

of really big buildings by next week. You know,

it's like, yes, we get it, Damien. You're so

much better than the rest of us. And I love how,

you know, Red Robin's not out. Like, he's doing

what he does. He is the nerd. He is the techie.

He is back in the Bat Bunker trying to make a

3D model of this suit and trying to find where

it's coming from. Finally found something. Okay,

but let's face it. Tim Drake in this story. He

is essentially what Alfred was in btas. I mean

he is essentially the Alfred for these I mean

yeah Tim Drake does go out in the later issues

here and does kick ass But you know like you

said he is the person trying to figure this all

out because let's face it I mean Alfred we've

seen him once the entire story. It's you know

Alfred did research. I but yeah, it's dick's

doing like dick like and they've said ever since

uh not dick ever since tim's first appearance

and over the years they've said since that he

will become a greater detective than bruce ever

was because he has that greater drive to solve

a puzzle like that and it's not so wish there

was a red robin series well there was just just

him by himself just him by himself no stupid

-ass teen titans none of that crap just there

was when Previous to the world actually was going

going on around the same time from this But you

know what, you know the fall of 2011 ruined a

lot of shit for people Well, I'm saying now like

in the past two years. I wish there would have

been like Get rid of teen titans or find a way

to get tim drake out of the damn teen titans

He doesn't need to be with them and just have

him on his own have him with his own seer Like

I would if he was wearing this suit, I would

gladly accept that because the new 52 like Basically

looks like he rich ripped off a costume from

the vulture in spider -man I just I don't like

that design. But anyway, yeah What I meant to

say is before we got off an attention here is

that? Tim has been doing Not that the rest aren't

doing detective work, but he's been doing some

like solid detective work And he's finally found

something in regards to the suit and before we

go off to that. I love penguins line There's

like over a century of history in this building

alone all of it gone. No, thanks to your efforts

Batman I suppose the rumors are true. You're

slipping yeah, and We go back to the 1800s there

with the gates and you see that Bradley is more

of a pragmat pragmatist than Nicholas where he's

you know, we've built this we're practically

family and Brad's of the opinion is like you

you won't be a Wayne or a cobble pot They'll

treat you like one of them and then they will

be cast aside and forgotten You know and yeah,

it goes back there they continue to designs of

buildings and You know, it's it's it looks like

the the the dialogue there Bradley you're my

brother and I love you where they're working

on the designs for the bridge Like for the foundation

it almost suggests like there is like some schism

between the brothers and there really isn't You

know Bradley might have reservations, but it's

nothing too bad and we go back to the bunker

and Basically Tim has found you know the the

origins the suit, you know, it was created in

the 1800s and working on the foundation below

the waterline and Basically, they were discontinued

after Robert Kane like the one of the ancestors

of Beth Kane or no What's that woman's real name

I haven't read that series in so long Kathy Cassandra

Kathy Kathy Kane You know that was like her great

-great -grandfather Mm -hmm, and then he drops

the bomb the suit was designed by the Gates brothers

Yeah, and I like how dicks sit in there the gates

of Gotham exactly And he's like Tommy was telling

the truth son of a bitch That's the look on his

face, so they find like the last surviving descendant

of the gates and or one of the last owners of

it and it's basically it all tumbles like the

it's all going back to the beginnings of Gotham

and Damien's like history didn't arm these bombs

the guy in the suit did and I was like yes we

get it Damien you're a prick somebody just needs

to electro bat punch that fucking kid I'd suggest

the more extreme opinion involves locking him

in a room propping his eyes open like clockwork

barge and making him watch the Smurfs But I digress

Now make him watch for Rin and Stimpy that's

even worse the Rin Stimpy is actually entertaining.

No, it's not So we go back to the past and This

is where the falling out comes we meet mr. Cameron

Kane and they only asked Nicholas to come to

this meeting and We see, you know, they're basically

You know, they asked Nicholas his opinion and

he says based on my calculations the Wayne location

will be the most sound You know and this obviously

pisses off Kane and we go back to the Present

where they are figuring out more of the suit

You know figuring out. You know what is the man

inside the suit wants and and Have you seen the

the solicitations for the we are robin series

that's coming I have seen some of that. Yeah,

okay I haven't seen all of it, and I don't know

if I'm even that interested in it But as we get

to the next scene it's it's Drake and and and

Damien out you know looking for this stuff and

It it kind of reminds me of this upcoming series

is like, oh boy, we're gonna have a whole bunch

of Robins flying around the city Yeah, potentially.

Yeah, so I do like the line that Tim drops and

Damian is like we both know the only real reason

you don't like her is that she's just one more

person your father picked over you You don't

have to have the word balloon, but he's like

son of a bitch son of a bitch son of a bitch

And we go back to the Gotham Herald building,

which is basically seeing better days. Yeah.

And Black Bat and Batman are going through and

he hits up the detective vision and tracks. You

tell me this isn't detective vision. I call you

a liar because the lenses come up and he can

follow footprints. Yeah, it's essentially like

Superman's x -ray vision or it's like Superman's

x -ray vision melded with this heat vision only

he's not heating anything. Well, yeah, it's it's

like the Arkham beams. Yeah, or think of it this

way. It's like the T1000 from Terminator 2. I

think you might be stretching a little bit with

that one, Mike, but I get what you're saying.

He had the red behind his eyes when he said reboot,

reboot. He had red vision on the inside of his

eyes. Know Mike I said I understand where you're

coming from. I just thought you're stretching

a little bit with that anyway that they go into

the I guess kind of not really the vault but

like the newspaper it's stored like where they

store their documents and The basically the plans

for the Wayne Tower the iceberg lounge and the

Cambridge have all been stolen And we go back

to I forget what did they specifically see what

building they were going to For the the two Robins.

I maybe I missed it. Yeah, it's Is it the where

are they they went to the Elliot building, right?

The aliens have owned this building for as long

as they've lived in Gotham if they're hiding

anything it'd be here Yeah, that was the Herald.

They did say where the Robins were going because

Damian pimps out and I'm just looking here scanning

back and One day it's basically they go to this

Some guy that collects stuff from the history

of Gotham and they run into diving suit And then

we go back to As we kind of end this issue, we

go back to the construction of the bridge and

Nicholas is up top directing traffic and Bradley's

gone down underneath to, you know, work on the

foundation. And there's a something happens and

the bridge collapses and Bradley dies and you

see the last shot of the issue is Nicholas holding

Bradley's helmet and screaming. Well kneeling

amidst the wreckage there, which that's the hell

the way to end the issue That's I'm so glad I

was not reading this when it originally came

out because that would have killed me having

to wait a month For the next issue. Yeah so we

get We get part four here. This cover is kind

of amazing. It's Batman with With mr. Steampunk

there And above him is the founders of Gotham.

And this looks more like a book binding to me

than anything else. Like the edges of this, it

kind of reminds me of a book binding. And we

get part four, the Gotham City Massacre. Yeah,

I love this. Like you got the skeletons, you

know, like the, you know, potentially hinting

at, you know, the how any great endeavors built

on the bodies of those that There's some sort

of metaphor there that I can't completely get

Should mention that this issue we get Dustin

Was it new? Let's say new yen At least I think

that's her Dustin Williams on art. I love the

poster. It's got a kind of almost action thriller

movie sort of vibe there with you know with a

steampunk diving suit coming down at Batman Batman's,

you know got a fist raise ready to clock this

mother and everything and Snyder and Higgins

still on uh still on writing here and we get

jumped right into the middle of the fight between

Steampunk Diver and uh and the Robins and like

Damien's like after you know he's he's basically

punched a hole in like a support beam or something

Damien's like thought that suit was 100 years

old I guess he made some modifications You know

and then Batman's like we have the next target

the bombers going after the cane bridge Well,

Robin, I are a little preoccupied fighting him

at the moment, but that's good to know Yeah,

and I know it says hold on we're on our way,

but I wish it would have said hold on what Just

just for like some humor at that thing and I

like Davey and like his father bullheaded, you

know no more running no wait foolish yes you

know and you know we got robins the robins back

each other up in this fight and apparently whatever

it's probably half a half an iron man suit at

this point whatever he's done to it and we finally

get the proper name for our villain the architect

you know it's like Gotham's forgotten son but

soon they will remember After tonight the gate

name will live forever blah blah blah. I'm a

badass blah blah blah. You'll bear witness blah

blah blah And then well, that's just it's just

typical super villainish rant So why is it? Why

is it when you were saying that all I can think

of is Tonight I will die on turtle soup And next

master we rebuild the foot no, there's only one

thing next Revenge followed by a light dinner

So the Robins they're they're wrecking this place

which I never again look in here we never actually

got a name for where they went to it's some sort

of museum and we go to the We go back to we see

the the funeral of Bradley the founding fathers

are there and the construction continues and

it turns out that people blame the the accident

on the fact that they went from the Wayne location

now they're building it towards Kane County and

you know Kane's just sitting there oh you're

building it where I said you should build it

oh you know you could hear that sort of scoffing

in the voice and apparently Nicholas has spent

a lot of time underwater in this suit yes he

has And he goes to Alan Wayne, and he says, look,

I don't think this was an accident. I think he

was murdered by the Kane family. And it's motive.

It's motive. And there's nothing to say that

that isn't right. But then Alan is like, You

see what happens and the that the other shoe

finally drops Yep, and it's basically it's like

because this is such an important thing for Gotham

You know, there's no actual hard evidence. He's

not going to Help, you know Nicholas Brings it

still basically turns on he basically turns on

him and basically goes You know against nicholas

and says oh no, you you've never been a part

of this and as much as he is justified in doing

that And he is like don't I don't i'm not hating

on alan wayne for not backing nicholas up And

there is like there is no evidence and he tells

him like the elliott's won't print us in the

newspapers. Mayor Cobblepot would keep the cops

out of it you know after all you aren't one of

us and as much as this isn't the soap operish,

you know, screw you because you're not one of

the gentry sort of dismissals, it still hurts.

And you can see from Nguyen's art, like just

how defeated Nicholas looks. I think that's like

bottom of page 10 there. What I absolutely love

about this, about the art change is it's rarely

changed I mean you know Trevor McCarthy did most

of the and pretty much all the art in the first

three issues and in this one you know you see

Nicholas you see Alan and yeah it does their

characterizations do look a little different

but they don't look that much off because that

he has to show the passage of time like I know

for for a fact that the funeral and like the

time that Bradley died And the time that has

to at least be three, four, five months, maybe

more, depending on how much of an investigation

or less of an investigation it was, because obviously

there wasn't one. Yeah. But, you know, I do like

how Dustin's art is also very similar to, uh,

Trevor's. Yeah. As far as the flashbacks go,

as far as the stuff from today, it looks completely

like Damien's whole suit. Looks so different

than what it looked like when Trevor was doing

it. Yeah, no, it's It is there's a stark contrast

to the art It's like I said, it's not that I

didn't hate on McCarthy's art. It's just Just

some of the pencils like it just didn't gel gel

for me So, you know, but we get back to you know,

red Robin are sorry a red Robin and Robin crawling

other wreckages black bat and Batman show up

And, uh, you know, he says like the guy's called

the architect and he's like, he's not just targeting

the bridges. He's targeting the city. And it's

also, they mentioned that the cane bridge is

built into a retaining wall. So basically if

he blows that, it's going to be like Hurricane

Katrina for Gotham city. Yeah. And then a black

bat finds the journal. Nicholas gate in the rubble

here amongst all the other antiques and whatnot

And we see Nicholas back in the day. He is so

Well, he's obsessed with proving that Cameron

Kane did this then, you know, he fashions himself

basically He becomes a super villain. I mean

This diving suit because of the depths they go

to he's he's got basically an exoskeleton So

he just rips the gate open. He's wearing a top

hat and a coat and I what I love about this scene

and I wish it was written a little differently

I almost wanted Scott and Kyle to do a a masculine

phantasm Cameron Kane instead of saying your

money won't protect you now your angel of death

awaits And there's so so he attacks Cameron Kane

and then his son I guess Robert You know gives

them both barrels from a shotgun he kills the

Sun and I guess something happened when Cameron

crack cracks him with the butt of the rifle from

behind that locks him In the suit because you

see it's he's holding him up against the wall

and he crushes him and something happens He's

basically taken to jail And we go back to the

present where these two beat cops are I was talking

about earlier. Yeah, this is like Nugent's art

here but they have that scene where he cracks

one copy sends him flying and makes like a Jackson

Pollock painting when he hits the bridge structure

and basically you go back to Black Bat and Batman

and he's been reading the journal and basically

it's been a vendetta for like a hundred plus

years. Okay, you can go whenever you're ready.

Okay. So basically Batman's been reading the

God, the journal. He's clearly Nicholas has gone

insane. Like he's, it's created like this vendetta

against the families of Gotham. And he opines

on the personality of Gotham City, and I love

Dick Grayson's line here, like it or not, Gotham

has royalty and they stretch back to the origins

of the city. She protects her own, but if you

don't belong here, she'll never keep you. And

then Black Bats, do you really believe that?

And he's like, I don't know anymore. And then

they go off, and I wanted to mention this earlier,

they go off in a black and red back boat, which...

Don't know if this was intentional on the the

part of McCarthy and new again here, but it evokes

It evokes the Batmobile from Batman Beyond I

know they is the black and red Batmobile at this

point is a flying Batmobile which definitely

screams Batman Beyond with Dick Grayson and Batman

they go back and it's basically sales and Gordon's

trying to lock down the bridge and Bad Olsen

it could you almost see the light bulb and he's

like open the hatch. I know how to stop them

What how it's like by proving everything he believes

is a lie and we end on the architect looking

at Some of the sem techs he's planted on a support

beam And it's not all in the one place obviously,

but basically we're getting into the end game

here is You know, the Gotham City Massacre, you

know, part four of this story comes to a close.

I love number five's main cover. That might be

the best cover off the entire series for me.

I love that. Yeah, definitely. Well, it is really

cool. And this of all like the last one had it,

but this one is like straight up comic book action

movie poster. Then like you batman sitting there

you get a good shot of like the slightly redesigned

bat suit for Dick Grayson You know, you got the

silhouette of the architect looming over Gotham

City in the background It's the secret history

of Gotham revealed on hard copy Yeah that and

part five welcome to the future. Well, there's

all I should always like Really quickly, all

I can think of with that title, part five, Welcome

to the Future. All I can think of is that song

from the flashback in Mask of the Phantasm when

they go to the Gotham World's Fair, when Joker's

hiding out at the Old World's... No, I was just

going to say, with my digital copy, I've got

the alternate cover. I can't figure out who did

the... I don't recognize the signature there,

but it's Black Bat and Damien Robin flanking

Dick Grayson. He's standing there just holding

the Architect's helmet. It's done kind of like

a faux watercolor kind of painted cover, which

looks really nice. But yeah, we get into the

story. Batman goes flying up into the air. You

know, Dylan May, the Architects, is attempting

to destroy the legacies of the Waynes, the Cobblepots.

And Batman's talking to commission tell your

men to fall back the bomb at the base of the

bridge is a diversion The real explosives are

underwater and he's it's basically going back

to how Bradley died But also that's where they'd

be most effective in order to blow the retaining

wall right and It's like I love Gordon's comment

there is if you could spare anyone we could use

help in the bridge And he's like, what's the

phrase there? don't worry it's about time i got

back into the action and yeah i love that it's

like batman dive bomb or drop kick you know and

it does look kind of badass with the and if he

if he moved his legs just a little bit more and

it was um and it was on the architect's head

i would say it was almost an inseguri but it's

not or a shining wizard Yep, you get into it

and you get a really good look I mean we've gotten

good looks at super for but this one you get

a nice up -close look and you see you can tell

that it's armored and it's got little bits of

extra tech in there and whatnot basically Batman,

you know throws the darts black back goes down

to take a look at the bomb and Damien this comes

down and he's He's like, can you turn it off?

No I have an idea though, but I need you to trust

me. And I love, I know it's just the art, but

it's, uh, Davey is like, what the what? Yeah.

You know, so we go back to elements. You see,

uh, you know, Cassandra using the bat, uh, the

bat boat or the bat pod. I don't know what we

want to call it. Uh, yeah. Her and Damien using

the bat boat to like remove some of the explosives

while that's intercut with the architect and

batman fighting and it looks like a pretty solid

fight too like you know batman getting a shot

in what is so awesome about this like because

i'm reading this through comixology's guided

view what is so awesome about this and i did

not expect this to do this it's intertwining

the fight with what they're doing to try to save

the explosion when it gets out to it shows you

the full two page spread after you go through

all the panels on the guided view. And it's essentially

holes. It's almost like Scott and Kyle are like,

hey, there are holes in our story and we need

to fill them. That's exactly right. I like how

they watery bubble windows like that to see what's

going on. So they get the explosive way and destroy

the bad boat and the architects like, no, all

my plans. and you know well done to you yeah

but it's like we got you down old man withers

yep but uh absolutely see batman uh uses the

double grappling guns again to like strap up

the architect and Is like you you traitor you

have no idea what you are You don't protect people

you protect liars and thieves and also the architects

become like damn the man Capitalists suck, you

know, don't pay taxes sort of rant and and then

Batman drops the bomb on him that The whole thing

was that the Bradley caused the accident because

these suits have a flaw that basically it's nitrogen

narcosis Yeah, you know, it's it the buildup

of nitrogen the blood basically caused causes

you to go bat shit insane Now is it really the

suit causing that or is it the curse of Gotham

City? We'll never know Because I mean they've

mentioned in comics before just living in Gotham

drives you nuts And then you see You know Nicholas

Gates was basically one of the first inmates

at Arkham Asylum back in the day Yeah, because

because Batman says He wrote this he says After

the death of Robert Kane Nicholas wasn't taken

to prison was he? He wrote this journal from

someplace much worse and we flashed to the back

of the journal Or it's his property of Arkham

Asylum. Yeah, and then he the the architect snaps

free and like no and you know Batman, you know

tears his helmet off and i guess that somehow

the inflush of oxygen causes him to uh you know

pause and then bleed out and i like that i'll

kill you no you won't and just yo shoryuken like

the dragon punches but i like the yard he's just

sitting there you're missing a tooth just like

i don't like use of this word but batman done

punched him retarded Mm -hmm, and you know, he's

we go back, you know Damien You kind of sort

of oh, oh wait, that's dick. Never mind Robin.

No, it's Tim Drake. Yeah, it's Tim Drake he and

Cassandra talk and we then get to Dick Grayson

as Batman in the cave with the real the one and

only Batman You know And we get this whole monologue

where he's filling Bruce in and he says, oh well,

I'll be back soon and you know puts on his mask

and Dick Grayson take takes his off and Damien

says so my father is coming home looks that way

Is that a good or a bad? And then Damien Damien

just snickers and doesn't even say anything.

Oh, I love the way that happened. It's just like

that that's is that a good or a bad just like

now let Dick Grayson decide and we flash back

to Alan Wayne you know and everything and I I

love they kind of insinuate with that ending

like and maybe it's just me like you look at

the smile on Cameron's face now is that like

him just being like a good old boy and he's like

he's just smiling because you know of course

you would ask that Wayne or did he maybe actually

have something to do and I've read on some forums

that some people theorize that it's not that

there was a defect in the suits it's that they

were tampered with in some unknown way that caused

the nitrogen narcosis so maybe Cameron Cain actually

was responsible for what happened in a very roundabout

way and I mean, it's all fan like to believe

he was. I mean, I'd like to believe he was if

I could ask Kyle, I would, but I don't think

Kyle would give me a straight answer. Well, that's

not saying I'm not saying that Kyle Higgins doesn't

give me straight answers, but it's just one of

those things in the story where they've left

it up to our own imaginations at this point.

We can, you know, we can choose to believe whether

Cameron had something to do with it or whether

that was just the way it was. I know I love that

it's like how in To how an old sci -fi horror

movies like the original blob was Steve McQueen

You know, they dumped the blob in the Arctic

and it says the end and then it morphs into a

question mark which is exactly what this is like

they leave us guessing and I love that and you

know, they they walk off then and you see Alan

kind of gives them that look and well, let's

pray we never have to and That's the end of the

story and of course uh like it says when batman's

coming back there in the story this is after

the return of bruce wayne like post final crisis

where he got blasted into the time stream by

dark sides omega beams that during this time

in the batman comics dick grain and bruce dick

grain dick grace and bruce wayne were both sharing

the title of batman and bruce was more Active

I think in Batman and Batman incorporated and

dick was active in detective comics and Batman

and Robin So but so Bruce was all out of town

a lot because of Batman Inc. But that being said

I love this story. This was a great You could

see it as kind of a send -off to the DC universe

we knew and loved growing up Because you know

everything because this one like a lot of comics

published at this time end with, you know, Dan

DiDio's, you know, hype, hype man at DC, little

pitch there for the new 52. And you know, because

we're getting into Flashpoint at this point.

And earlier in the earlier in the if you had

the print copy, and I know I have these somewhere,

I remember seeing a lot of DC constant time,

they had like a two page spread that there was

like a shot of flash from Flashpoint on one side

and the other side was like a complete list over

like three or four months of all the original

52 new comics that came out at this time. So,

you know, it's a great story. I loved it. It's

kind of a denouement to the DC that I knew. And

I'm giving a solid four and a half. would be

my final score if only because like I said it's

not that I hated McCarthy's art it just bothered

me for some reason and but other than that I

loved it it was it was a great kind of classic

Batman story we have a lot of detective work

they're trying to figure a mystery out it's not

some spaz in white face makeup threatening to

tickle someone to death or something and it's

not It's not Harley trying to use the piranhas.

If you have to explain the joke, it's not funny.

For me, the only sticking point I have against

the book is the old fashioned lettering because

I remember when I first read this, when I first

brought it home in physical trade paperback form,

it really hurt my eyes. to read that that old

timey lettering that's and that's a nitpick at

best folks um but i am also going to give it

a four and a half out of five i absolutely love

this story i wish we had more dick grason as

batman versus dick grason dc's version of nick

fury is I've read four issues of that series

and I will never read anything they better do

something with Dick Grayson with the new 49 or

the new 58 or whatever the hell the next incarnation

is going to be for the universe the the converged

universe I will say this now folks You know I

said at the beginning There's gonna be a clip

at the beginning of the podcast that you would

have heard I'm not sure when I'm gonna continue

doing the pullback because my mom recently passed

away I still have to figure out what's going

on with my living arrangements, so This is gonna

be the final podcast for a little while I think

there may be another gem review before this but

or after this but I don't know I will say though

we are going to At some point we're gonna have

a two -part episode of the pullback where we

talk about At least Two convergence titles Nightwing

and Oracle and Green Arrow Those are the two

main ones that I really cared about out of all

the convergence crap that we got But yeah, I'm

not really sure when the show is gonna come back

as of right now. It's gonna be put on a temporary

hiatus I just don't know I've got to figure out

like I said where I'm gonna live in order to

even podcast anymore, so Yeah The country would

go to hell if I moved to Canada or the country

could be more awesome. I mean come on Mike All
