About this Episode

Mike and Nicole dive into IDW's outrageous new series Hot Damn by Ryan Ferrier and Valentin Ramon, following Teddy Graham's misadventures in hell. They discuss the comic's explicit content, its visual style mixing black and white with color, the group therapy scenes in hell, and what Teddy's journey might hold across the five-issue miniseries.

Hey, this is Ryan Ferrier, writer of IDW's Day

2 and the upcoming Hot Damn. You are listening

to The Pull Bag. Welcome to The Pull Bag. Join

us as we dig out our latest comics and discuss

them with a rotating panel of the GCRN crew.

So sit back and enjoy this week's Pull Bag. Ladies

and gentlemen, TFJ and Mike here. Just wanted

to put a little... caveat before this episode

of the pull bag. Nicole and I reviewed IDW's

Hot Damn number one. This comic is not for kids,

so this podcast episode is definitely not for

kids at all. It's not safe for work, not safe

for kids, any of that kind of stuff. Because

of the content of the comic, not necessarily

the cursing, but just... The content of the comic

itself is not for kids. So please listen at your

own discretion. You have been warned. Hello and

welcome to The Pull Bag! This is the 52nd, 53rd,

I think it's the 52nd Back Issue Classics. I

am one of your hosts, THUN Mike. Joining me is

Nicole, Beatles Diva. Hello. Bonjour, aloha.

Yeah, hi Alright folks, so it is time it is the

month of April and Temperature wise I feel like

I'm in hell So there's there's that so this is

very fitting as far as us covering this new four

issue comic series from IDW Publishing. We've

talked about it briefly with the writer Ryan

Ferrier in the interview that Nicole and I did.

We talked about it. I don't remember if we talked

about it in the second. I don't think we talked

about it in the second Dave episode. So anyway,

Ryan Ferrier, Valentin Ramon, the two people

responsible for robots destroying the earth in

Dave are back. What better title for a comic

than Hot Damn? That's a good title. And I love

the covers. Yeah, the covers are amazing. So

Hot Damn, we're gonna be doing this four -issue

miniseries in single -episode review form because

I just feel it deserves that since they're still,

they're gonna be coming out over the next four

months. Obviously number one is out now. As I

said, Ryan Farrier, Valence and Ramon on writing

and illustrated all that edited by Dave Hedgecock

and obviously IDW's publisher is Ted Adams. I

remember when I first saw the announcement to

this on Comics Alliance and I was like, oh no.

It wasn't a bad oh no, it was like. Oh no, what

has IGW done now? Well, Brian was really good

about giving us a little bit of insight of what's

going on. He had said in the interview something

along the lines of, I can't believe they're letting

us even do this. So this is a four -issue miniseries.

As I said, it follows the adventures in hell

of Teddy Graham. Yes, like the... The classic

80s snacks. We all know and love, you know What

was it chocolate was there's honey and what was

the other one was it cinnamon? Well that yeah,

yes Good no, you know, okay, so since we brought

it up since the main characters named after them

You know as a kid, I absolutely loved the Teddy

Graham stuff the Teddy Graham crackers as an

adult I actually went back and I found some.

Oh, you did? Well, they still sell them. They

still make them. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah,

and I've tried them, and I don't know if it's

my adult taste buds not agreeing with what my

kid taste buds used to be. They're not as good

as what they were when I was a kid. They're just

not... I think I had to go try to find some.

It's, um... Don't know it just they just don't

taste the same or so. It's the same thing with

with with Pringles somehow along, you know, everyone

always taught and I know we're an attention here

folks I don't care, you know how we always talk

about and everybody always talks about how Coca

-Cola changed the recipe at one point or another

and everything else Something happened to Pringles

along the lines in the last 30 years between

the time I was a Last time I remember Pringles

actually being good was 1994. I still like Pringles.

Sour cream and onion? Yep. Well, I only do the

originals. I don't do flavor stuff with chips.

Never care for the original. Well, the originals

were alright. The originals tasted good and I

don't think it's because Lays came out with a

rival thing with the Lays stacks. But the Lay's

stacks are 10 times better to me now than the

Pringles. The Pringles just, they're flimsy,

they're flaky, they break too. Anyway, so getting

back, bringing this back around, Teddy Graham

is the lead character of Hot Damn. We open up

in Las Vegas, kinda. Welcome to fabulous hell.

Vegas can't be hell, trust me. Yeah Just this

first opening panel here There's just so much

to notice folks. It's not it's not even the writing

It's not even the opening monologue here that

you could obviously you're supposed to be reading

But like like I said welcome to fabulous hell

they have oink burger signs all over the place

Which I assume is supposed to be Burger King

because it looks like the Burger King logo more

than the Golden Arches I was thinking, I don't

know, I think it's just his own thing. Maybe.

I don't know. Well, he put a shell sign in Dave,

so I figure hey. Yeah, that's true. So we got

that. We've got boys and girls, boys and girls,

boys and girls. We've got dead nudes. Let's see

what else is on here. Sin, open seven days. Sex.

There's just a whole bunch of little things in

the background of this this opening page I mean

you could look at it. There's so many fun little

things mm -hmm There's even a Drawing it's supposed

to be an arrow, but we all know what it's really

supposed to be and it reminds me of Of you've

seen ten things. I hate about you, right? Oh,

yeah When Joey goes over to to michael to uh...

oh god uh... charlie not not course what's his

uh... rapture off goes over to the kid michael

who is the the the avi kid and basically draws

a dick on his he's like he's like i have a dick

on my face don't i had to do it so that's it's

a very good or as you know so teddy is being

woken up by his demons sponsor And I love this

Teddy wakes up again because he says the demon

says it's you got to go to group Again, Jesus.

What time is it? Oh Language fucker. It's four

in the morning like like seriously you called.

Oh is it's hell. That's why They would consider

it occur. Uh, ha ha irony, yay I Like how there's

no time in hell to me that would be hell I am

a time I'm a time freak so I'm constantly if

I don't have a wide watch on I go kind of nuts

and so That would be my personal hell not knowing

what time it is Yeah, that's There yeah, I I

don't think I've worn a watch in 20 years I don't

I don't think I've worn a watch since cell phones

have clocks and alarm clocks in them now No,

I still had to have a watch. I'm one of those

people And Apparently as we go along through

the story here they go to downtown hell and They

have a discussed a discussion over what what

Teddy is eating? And apparently, it's essentially

diarrhea. It's just disgusting. It's just disgusting.

It's nasty. Yeah, it's just disgusting. There's

a lot of things here. And everyone, just so you

know, The Pull Bag is an explicit show. I do

tag it explicit every single time, just in case

we do curse or we do say a curse word from a

comic or whatever else. But there is some stuff

in here that just is beyond gross and disgusting.

You're just like, ugh. Yeah. And as soon as I

so they're walking through the streets and we

see this bum playing these bongos I'm currently

as of this recording on a free trial to Spotify

premium. I had to go look up OMC how bizarre

So they're basically saying that oh hell isn't

all that bad and and everything else and and

Teddy runs into This kitty apparently knew in

high school This You know what? Did did Ryan

have Valentin turn Scotty into a human? Seriously,

he gave Scotty a face. Well, that's kind of cool,

but his name's not Scotty, so. Well, no, his

name is Devin, but I'm saying that just the way

he talks and the way he looks, I'm like, Oh my

God, they took Dave's kid, turned him into a

human and put him in hell. Wow. I love it. And

even when we get to Maria later, Teddy's wife

who is still alive, she kind of reminds me of

Sally a little, so I'm thinking maybe a little

bit. I don't know. Maybe it's just cause I've

got too much Dave on the brain still. Cause that's

really the only outside of Ryan doing kennel

block blues, which we've already covered the

first two issues of. Um, but he's doing that

with Daniel Blayless when it comes to balance

and Ramon. Dave and this are the only two things

I've seen his art in. So, you know, I'm sure

as the issues go on, I'll have a lot of other

Dave references. So by the time we meet this

Devon kid, what are you thinking as they're going

on their way to group? I was just like, Oh, I

could see, yeah, this, I could see where hell

is like meeting up with people that annoyed you

in life. And I'm just like, Oh yeah, that would

be hell. Yeah. I like the like the little background

stuff and little Like I like the bongo player.

Yeah, it's actually heads that he's bong going

on It's I Was trying not to allude to that but

yeah, just that's just like Okay, you know, so

yeah, there's Now that I'm looking at that panel

again, you know what reminds me of? The guy who

played flat top in Dick Tracy. Oh my gosh. That's

a stretch. No, I'm saying because of the bongo,

it's a flat top. That was a stretch. Oh, come

on. We get to group the Penance Therapy Abadoon?

Abadon? I don't know. It's Abadon. Abadon. Okay.

That's, that's I figured it's basically it's

kind of, it's kind of like Hell's version of

Al -Anon or, or Alcoholics Anonymous or what

essentially, you know, it's like, so We get The

group session here. What did you think of this

this scene? This is a little close to home because

I've been going to Alan on sessions and alcoholic

synonymous sessions with Some loved ones and

says just like oh my gosh. They've nailed it

And Avedon who is the name of the actual goat

I believe the goat here basically I'm sorry.

Ever since I saw the promo image from this, when

we talked about it with Ryan and everything else,

when the Comics Alliance had the scoop of the

announcement of this, they have the promo image

of the goat's head. And the only thing I can

think of every time I see this character now

is Adam Sandler's the goat skit. That wasn't

Adam Sandler. That was... It was Adam Sandler,

the goat. No, uh, on Saturday Night Live? Yeah,

but he did it for his What the Hell Happened

to Me album. Oh, there's... There's a song, and

then there's a skit. There's two different things.

There's a song, but they're both done by Sandler.

The skit is him and his friends going up to this

old goat that lives with this old man. It's all...

Play it for you later. I didn't think it was

Adam Sandler that was Goat Boy, though. No, no,

no. Yeah, it is Adam Sandler who does the voice

of the goat. No, I'll have to look it up. I swear

it wasn't Adam Sandler on Saturday Night Live

that did the Goat Boy. Alright folks, we're gonna

take a quick break, we're gonna head to the Goat

Boy and we'll be back after this. Fuck me in

the goat ass! Shit! You fucking whizzed that

thing! That must've hurt. Fuck! Alright folks,

so we're apparently talking about two very different

things. I'm talking about the skit from What

the Hell Happened to Me by Adam Sandler where

the bunch of guys go up to the goat who's in

the back of the truck. And Nicole, you're talking

about Goat Boy. No, what I was talking about

was an actual goat. The goat boy was done by

who? Jim Brewer. Jim Brewer. Okay. Yeah. No,

that's not what I was talking about. That's what

I was talking about. I'm like, no, he's not Adam

Sandler. So, um, because that's who he looks

like to me. Go look at Jim Brewer goat boy. He

kind of looks like that. Yeah. As far as the

look, but just in my head, all as I can think

of. when I first saw the character was the Adam

Sandler skit. All right, let's see. So he asks,

Evidon asks him about the worst thing, tell us

all the very worst thing you ever did when you

were alive. And he goes on to talk about not

the worst thing, but once a gigolo and I stole

a cop car while drunk and high and crashed through

a blind lady's fence. Yeah, look at that look

at those lawn gnomes holy crap. I know Poor lawn

gnomes. I like that the lawn gnomes are the only

thing that's colored in that panel. Yeah Yeah,

that's great And apparently the guy who he was

with is actually in the group with him. Oh Yeah,

that's right So this guy goes go basically goes

off and and Avedon basically just Quite literally

boils him in in in hell so Good times good times

one person down a million to go right That does

not look fun You going to the second level of

hell? Hell is not a video game any of us want

to play And of course he goes out singing proud

to be an American That was a little bit like

oh my gosh, you're one of those people You see

it's always so funny to me when when Ryan writes

stuff when he mixes in curse and mixes in and

out of curse words where it's like he'll say

damn you or hell or shit or fuck or fucker or

whatever and then We'll have a scene like this

where where evidence reaction to him is no damn

you I asked you nicely you son of a b -word I'm

like really seriously. You can't just say son

of a bitch See, that's what I think is ironic

is the workers. Yeah the demons They're they're

not what's their cussing and I think that's ironic

So basically after this part of the scene here

we we get to Abaddon getting calm and everything

else and He still wants Ted to talk about how

he was how he eventually came to hell and Teddy's

not exactly really really ready and You just

see this this close -up panel on the comics ology

guided view Wasn't asking Ted basically you better

tell me or else So we get Ted's backstory and

apparently his future wife Apparently she likes

the misfits Cross over yay What I think is so

cool about this series is the constant mix Oh,

you know you mentioned it earlier with the police

car of the black and white Like normally when

I think of black and white comics, I think of

not really black, white, and gray. Because if

you look at the panel with him and his girlfriend

here, his wife or whatever, or future wife, all

the background is like gray, dark grayish white

spots. And they're colored in gray more than

just a traditional black. I just love that. Well,

the thing is... It's supposed to be the memories

is supposed to be coloring his sin. So the things

that are colored are What's made him come down

to hell anyways? Right. No. Yeah, absolutely

And that's and I and I like that juxtaposition

of how they're doing this comic already that

the color Stuff are the sins, which is really

really cool. I find it Interesting and ironic

and I know there's a lot of people out there

I don't care for tattoos, but I don't generally

think tattooing is a sin. I mean I I don't know

So he tells the story here About how he dies

and We then get an in a monologue of of his trip

down to hell What do you think of this the whole

funeral scene and all that I think I I like that

he's seeing his funeral because he he kind of

gets a sense of He didn't really have a whole

lot of love in his life, you know and he's kind

of like oh well, this is the people that had

to show up and He's kind of looking back like

okay. So that was a mistake. It was like his

first reality check right there Yeah pretty much

yeah not all of us can be michael jackson and

have a million people show up at their funeral

too soon now so we get these these cool little

one -shot panels and then the group kind of ends

um we have this scene with him and uh And Abaddon

here. And again, mentioning the color being the

part of the apparently fans in hell are a sin

because there's colored ribbons around the fans.

Well, you're in hell. You're not supposed to

be comfortable. Very true. Very, very true. I

just after reading this, I mean, I know we're

still going through it, but I mean, but by this

point, Reading through the group session. I'm

like what I don't know where they're gonna It's

like I said last time when we did Dave and Dave

too. I don't know where they're gonna take that

story I don't know where they're I don't eat.

We're not even You know, we're only in the first

issue and I have no idea where this is going

and this is what to me is So refreshing for comics

right now is stuff like, you know create our

own stuff like this Where you just can't like

you read a Superman book you read a spider -man

book you read Whatever Batman Batgirl X -Men

What whatever you want and you still can somewhat?

At least guess one or two things and what's gonna

happen from issue to issue? With this stuff like

I don't even want to even try to guess Let's

see that that's a good writing then that tells

you he could guess and you know So after Teddy

leaves the group thing the after he leaves evidence

we get We get I guess his secretary evidence

secretary coming in oh No, she's she's she's

another demon. She's I think I think she's another

counselor. That's what I Okay, that's that's

true apparently she needs the confession sheets

for the week and she's the one that says oh Teddy

Graham good he says oh Teddy Graham good kid

like the cookies Just love how depressed Teddy

is with around these these characters Like he

said hell he's gonna be I get it I get it but

See this is the interesting thing of reading

Ryan's two of different Two different types of

Ryan's work at the same time Like I just read

kennel block blues number three, and I'm like

wow and I read this It's extremely different,

but it's also very similar because let's face

it Jackson kennel is kind of a hell for them

over in kennel block, so Let's see where do we

go from here we go back to his little sponsor

dude here and His sponsor is basically saying

that he has that he has pals up top and talking

about angels and demons and heavens and heaven

and hell and everything else and and And what

I absolutely loved that Ryan put in here, you

know that Bible stuff's made up true story chaplain

wrote it Yeah, sure he did immortal vampire heck

of a sinner geez And Teddy asks him, so God is

a businessman, just like Satan. Look, think of

it like shitty burgers. You're competing with

each other, sure, but the market's all the same.

Wow. And look at, look at God. That's just...

God's having a good time. Yeah, God's having

a good old time. I don't even want to know...

I think it's behind him, but the way it's drawn...

It looks like he has something coming out of

his ears. Right? The green stuff behind it. It's

probably something on the wall. See what I'm

talking about? It looks like he's got a spike

through his head. Oh no, I think it's just where

he's sitting. Yeah, yeah. Just a little strange

there. And apparently the sponsor is saying,

for instance, possessions. They ain't just demon

stuff. God loves them. Their ratings go way up.

And then he says, wait a minute, you want to

go on one? Oh no. So then the story turns to,

because they're sitting in. Yeah, they're sitting

in the third worst bar in hell. If that's the

third worst bar in hell, I don't want to know

what the first worst bar is. Oh my gosh, I kind

of got grossed out with the bar myself. Yeah,

I did too, but you know what the funny thing

is? You know what this really reminds me of?

This is the Cantina scene in hell. I'd rather

hear the Cantina song for a year straight than

be in this bar. You look at these bales I swear

it's it's the Star Wars cantina scene, but it's

the hell version Yeah, it just oh and the stuff

they apparently toothpaste is a is a proper drinking

method That's just so wrong and weird it I know

it's a barn all that but really the demon has

a pineapple Why not? It's just so funny So they

start my favorite is a certain clown that's in

hell Hey valentine that's not right I like it

that's that's just not right dude I love it if

only they could have gotten away with an M on

there I know you know it is it's yeah well yeah

you know who it is but it's sort of a it's an

R type but it's not really an R but it's just

so wrong No, I obviously think the Burger King

should be weren't held in him Yeah, all right

So they're gonna go on this possession thing

So the demon Basically tells them that You know

Think the best way to sum up this comic so far

is it and I've already said it multiple multiple.

It's just so wrong Now I gotta get my stuff all

up in your stuff I was like I was kind of nervous

where this is going when he first yeah Where

they taking this This is this comic is that safe

for work and I got really I was like, okay No,

this comic is not safe for work. It's not safe

for kids. It's not a kid comic at all Okay, so

remember a couple of months ago when a certain

movie came out and Every dumbass parent in the

world was taking their kids to the new superhero

movie on Valentine's Day called Deadpool This

is essentially the Deadpool of the comics at

this point. Well, I'd like to think that parents

wouldn't get a comic named Hot Damn for their

seven -year -old, okay? I'd like to see that.

No, I know, but I'm saying like comparing the

two of parents bringing their six -year -olds

to see Deadpool, if any parent had ever seen

the trailers or any other, they would know that,

especially with it being rated R, I don't care

if it's parental. You don't bring little kids

to Deadpool. I couldn't find a babysitter. Don't

go. that's right don't go so they then go on

this weird ethereal journey to go possess somebody

and we go to the control room of hell now this

is cool alright folks the way this looks they've

got skulls for for pen pencil holders The one

chick is Basically, yeah, you eat those dots.

She's playing Pac -Man, which is awesome On what

looks to be like a very very 90s iMac Absolutely

love it it's hell so they're running Windows

Millennium Oh No, just so scary So they find

out that we've got a possession and one of these

demons here is a dog with wings He looks awesome

he does look awesome. Yeah, it's the tie it's

The neck I don't even want to know why he needs

the collar around his neck like No, I I know

I get the joke. I'm just saying like Because

he's in hell. I'm wondering because he's a demon

of hell or whatever. He's supposed to be I'm

wondering if Like there's an injury under his

collar That's that's kind of what I'm wondering

So So the dog is letting them go do the possession.

And we get to see present -day living realm,

which is very, very interesting. Why do their

heads remind me of Jeeves from Men in Black?

Whose heads? Oh, they're possession heads, okay.

Yes. Reminds me of what's -his -name with the

two heads from Men in Black. Oh, I know. I haven't

watched Men in Black for so long, but I know

what you're talking about. So they possess this

guy, and they have a whole bunch of fun with

him. I feel sorry for the guy. He's just having

a regular day, and then to get possessed like

that. He's coming along and basically screwing

everything up. And apparently, as possessors

of his body, they can't control his bodily functions,

and he ends up puking all over the place at one

point. Oh, God, again. Not fun. And then we get

to, Christ is coming, repent of your sin. Yay.

And in this, we meet Maria, which is Teddy's

old girlfriend, ex -wife. I think it's his wife

or whatever else. so that's interesting let's

see here well she had a very traumatic moment

waking up to you your dead loved one yeah very

true very very true we then go to heaven which

has signs all over it one of them is drink more

holy water Who's your daddy? Who's your daddy?

That's a funny sign. I like that. What I'm wondering

is why do the angels have green wings? Why not?

I'm just curious. Why was that color chosen for

the wings? So they find out about the possession

and They basically put a stop to it So heaven

and hell are are you know going back and forth

about about this and and Teddy gets to a point

where he has the guy go up to Maria Maria I'm

here. It's me and of course because he's a little

Slinky Slimer version, she's not gonna be able

to see him. Slinky Slimer, I like that. Look

at the next panel, crap, crap, crap, what is

it? Phone jig is up, cracker jack, we gotta go.

Look at that panel, they're coming out of the

guy's nose like snot. I know it's disgusting.

But like you said, possession's not supposed

to be pretty. Yeah, that's that's true So basically

they have to high tail at home like Ferris Bueller

We get a part of the monologue we get is I got

what this is now my old buddy Keith a wise man

once advised us to make amends with anything

you've ever loved and That's the rub you can't

And we go to home sweet home hell. They get back.

Uh, let me buy you a drink or 12. I like, I like

the, I love the, the, the front of the bar. Oh,

front. Yeah. But, but stuff, but stuff, but stuff.

What a horrible name, but I like the look of

it. It's very metal. It's very, very cool. Um,

So apparently they're gonna be seeing a live

camel birth and That's not like entertainment

no and somebody's sniffing up some I don't I

just know All of this stuff in this bar is just

Epically wrong and weird and oh my god Yeah,

and and quite literally and Of course, the irony

of Ryan's writing, freeze, hell, police. Uh -huh,

sure. I love how the other one just does pig

noises. One talks, the other one talks, the other

one just... Oh, God. That's just so funny. I

like where their badges are at. Their badges

are at? Oh, yeah. Just... That's just so wrong

you won't be getting that number on that badge

So they get arrested they get taken to the head

office of the Dark Lord and They're sitting outside.

This might be there's a lot of good panels in

this comic, but this might be the best one now

serving number 665 I wonder if it's always saying

that like yours. It's like a mind game like you're

number six six six I wonder if it's a mind game.

Oh It could be yeah, absolutely So the sponsored

the sponsored dude blames him that they're gonna

do that they're gonna die Hey you cookie man,

he will see you now a female goat on all fours

great So we go into Satan's office It's interesting

Yeah, of course, you know Satan would be a tight

twat Yeah He's the only I wish there were four

of whatever these things are The the human head

things that he's got going on the the operation

looking heads That are like the one by his chair

the one by the golf clubs those guys. Are you

talking about? Hitler Stalin and Mussolini Yeah

You know, I really wish That I mean I get it

I get the joke but I almost wish it was like

The Seinfeld guys. Jerry George and Kramer. That

would be hilarious. Oh my goodness. And the comic

ends with, let's get right to it, Mr. Graham.

We need to talk. All right, so. I love that last

panel though, when he's blowing the steam off

his drink, whether it be coffee or tea. It just

demons come off of it. I love that last battle.

And that last panel. Beautiful. So hot damn number

one. Oh, my God. Very enjoyable. Folks, this

is kind of gross at points, but overall enjoyable.

Yeah. This is a comic like you've never read

before. And I remember in our interview with

Ryan, he had said that they're not trying to

sit here and do a commentary on, like, he's not

trying to do this story of, oh, heaven's better,

hell's better. They're not trying to anger the

religious entities or anything like that. So

just taking it on face value of what it is and

after reading the first issue. Kind of can't

wait to see where the story goes because let's

face it. They're in hell There's no way this

guy Teddy is gonna have a happy ending. Well,

I mean the whole thing is about What I'm getting

at is he never repented for his sins. He never

got over his addictions in The previous life

so so that's basically what it's kind of like

a second chance Okay, you didn't get you get

over your addiction and on earth. So we're going

to basically train you down. And I think that's

the whole thing with the tattoos. I mean, he

traded his tattoos when he has an addiction,

apparently, because they're all over his body.

I'm not saying it's good or bad, but if you're

giving up money for life to get a tattoo, got

a problem. But yeah, I like to, I like to think

that Maybe that's where they're going with this.

You're getting a second chance. If you don't

work it, you're going to the second level of

hell. Yeah, that's second level. Yeah, it doesn't

look too fun. Uh -huh. And you know what the

sad thing is at the end of this as I'm reading

it? The only thing I can think of, and I know

this is wrong and everything else, the only thing

I can think of... is that one Tom and Jerry cartoon

where he goes, he dies, Tom actually does die,

he goes down to hell, and there's a dog waiting

for him. Spike is the devil. And it's like, okay,

sure, I'll give you another chance. Go ahead

and go back up there. Or that one Bugs Bunny

cartoon where it's the one where, Bugs and Daffy

are on stage and Daffy is always, and this is

just the way Daffy was in later versions of himself,

he's always trying to upstage Bugs and thinks

he's better, and of course nobody gives him the

time of day. He's like, all right, they want

one trick, I'll give them the best trick I got.

And he does, you know, this whole thing of, oh,

a little nitroglycerin, a little of this, a little

of that, shake well, and poof. And he ends up

killing himself. bull and at the end of the boxes

like nice trick daffy they want i want you to

do it again bad thing is i can only do it once

yeah i remember that one i don't remember the

tom and jerry one but i remember that one yeah

yeah oh god it's just it's just so funny um overall

hot damn number one even though there are parts

of it that are going to gross you out folks If

you're looking for if you've been reading comics

for the better part of Five ten years if you've

been reading comics for a little less than a

year if you've been reading comics Since the

60s or whatever. I mean check this out because

seriously this is something that That's the interesting

thing with Ryan Ferrier he so far in the three

things that I've read of his Dave kennel block

in this He's done stuff that is completely original

while at the same time Allowing you to have those

those references he is like I do references all

the time everybody knows this I am the reference

king when it comes to podcasting sometimes and

Ryan does References like I've never seen in

comics before and it's just amazing. He's great

writer. I enjoy his stuff. That's for sure And

Valentine's art on this, I know part of the point

of it was to make it look gross, because obviously.

But Valentine's art and the colors are simply

amazing. Oh yeah, like I said, I've enjoyed his

work. Never heard of the guy until Dave, but

now I love him. I love his work. Yeah, absolutely

awesome. Alright, so I know it's going to be

a hard choice, but what would you rate this one?

uh... you know for the first issue and i'm pretty

sure we want to avoid giving it high marks but

i didn't find anything like some of the gross

stuff yeah but i can overlook that because it's

that's what it's supposed to be but what would

you give it and i give it a four because it does

leave me with some questions uh... there are

some things that were answered but overall i'd

say it was entertaining so i'd give it a solid

four Yeah, I'm gonna give it a four as well.

I absolutely loved it. I thought it was fun funny

I Just hope and I think they're already to the

point where they've done the second issue or

so as far as getting the script and their art

and all that stuff done But I just hope in this

four issue mini series that we don't end up getting

any reference to the go Gotham shit demon from

dogma I think they're better than that. Yeah,

I look forward to the next one, that's for sure.

Absolutely. Alright folks, we're gonna take another

quick break. You're gonna hear some ads and some

other stuff, and we'll be back after this. Hello

Geeks, every Friday on the Geekcast Radio Network.

Alright folks we are back here inside the pullback

baggage you classics number 52 Hot damn number

one absolutely awesome coming up in May. We have

oh no. I'm sorry This is not a four issue miniseries.

This is a five issue miniseries. I said that

earlier It was a four issue miniseries. I thought

it was supposed to be four. It's five I thought

it was supposed to be four as well, but according

to the IDW solicitations here It says hot damn

two of five the second issue fun with exorcisms

after tickling satan after ticking wow tickling

satan i want to see that so much after ticking

satan right off teddy and his sponsor castello

hit the streets of hell for a night of demonic

debauchery in a slow pukey crawl down memory

lane meanwhile up in heaven someone crapped in

an angel adriel's cornflakes spoiler alert it

was god So we've got that, and we've got the

two covers. Cover number one for issue two basically

has Teddy and Costello causing hell, essentially,

pun intended. The second cover, I don't know

what to think of. That is awesome. It's a slot

machine. Oh, it's a slot. Because they're like

in Vegas, basically. So it's a slot machine.

It's a hot damn slot machine. Wow. That's just

awesome. And yeah, that's blood at the bottom

there, right? It's blood and maggots. It's bloody

maggots. So that's what's coming up for Hot Damn,

folks. Here inside the pull bag, I'm not too

sure. Honestly, folks, I'm at the point now where

I... everyone should know if you've been listening

to me podcast for the last seven or eight years

or however the hell long I've been doing this

you know that I generally have a plan for everything

and while I do still have a plan for the pullback

at this current point in time I don't know what's

gonna happen so we had in April we've had dark

gem part one with Nicole Amy and I Nicole and

I have done hot damn here at some point. We are

gonna do a DC rebirth after dark episode with

Steve and maybe we're both and I don't know if

Steve and I are gonna be doing Robin Hood ongoing

volume one We may do that here in April. I don't

know April's almost over. So it's almost May

at this point. I Was gonna be doing Batman nightfall

for Batman month in May, but I'm just not sure

at this point. So The only thing I can absolutely

say for sure that's going to be coming at some

point, most likely at the end of June, is I found

out, which I should have known this, that there

is an actual Clerks the comic. Oh really? That's

going to be episode 137 in a row for the pullback.

And eventually, we will be getting to Mighty

Morphin Power Rangers. We're probably going to

get to the first four issues or so of that. I

do want to do Lumberjanes. I'll probably do that

with you most likely. I love Lumberjanes. It's

a good one. Lumberjanes, volume one. After that,

after what I've got written down for June, I

really don't have anything. Everything for the

rest of the year is open. So I'm not really sure

there's some things I have to move around like

originally last year I was gonna do because last

year is when Supergirl premiered on CBS. I was

gonna do a whole Supergirl September month where

my buddy Michael Bailey and I do the Supergirl

volumes from DC the the new 52 stories And that

didn't happen so I still have to rearrange episode

149 to 152 of the full bag to be other stuff

But yeah, I mean so far, you know, we've been

doing some interesting fun things Like I said,

I do know the movie revolt Dan and I may do I

hate fairyland issues one and two I just don't

know what's going to happen. So at this point

I'm pretty much like, hey, who wants to do this

comic this week? It's pretty much how I got you

on this week. You want to do a damn today or

tomorrow? Yeah, sure why not. So that's what's

going on here inside the pullback, folks. Make

sure to make your great escape into comics before

we go. Where can the people find you online?

Basically, all you have to do is Google's Beatles

diva. That's Beatles like the band, not the bug.

And that's me. That's me. For a second there,

I thought you said oogle, not Google. You could

do that too, but I won't respond to oogling.

uh... you can follow me at tfgwmike on twitter

you can follow at geekcast radio on twitter please

go follow at the pull bag on twitter and find

the pull bag on facebook as well we've... it

took me four years but i finally got the show

on facebook and twitter so i thought it was i

needed a place to put all my comic stuff because

i've been doing comic stuff for four years now

and i'm like i need a specific place to put all

this stuff and i'm like hey Let me just create

a Facebook and Twitter for the thing, so that's

what I did. So, at The Pull Bag on Twitter, I

think it's Facebook .com slash The Pull Bag for

The Pull Bag on Facebook, but the links will

be in the post. Make a great escape into comics,

folks. We are, I really hate to say this, May,

the first Saturday in May is coming up, and most

of us here in Kentucky, that means a day of...

fun debauchery and all that good stuff for a

crappy two and a half minute horse race. Oh,

I don't care. Derby's fun, man. Come on. Don't

talk to Derby. But it also means that it is free

comic book day. But guess what, folks? We here

in the Inside the Pull Bag, we're skipping free

comic book day this year. I'm sorry, none of

the titles appeal to me at all. There's nothing.

from any publisher that doesn't stop people from

okay people let me just say this though if you

go to your comic book store and you pick up free

comics please pick up some actually buy something

there too yeah no absolutely yeah i don't know

i'm not saying the the overall experience of

actually going and attending free comic book

i'm saying the last was last year in the year

before the pull bag has covered free comic book

day issues that we've got. So this year, no,

no disrespect to any of the publishers. I love

you all, but there's just nothing that grabbed

my attention this year out of the free titles.

That doesn't mean that I'm still not going to

go down to the great escape here in Louisville,

Kentucky on Bartstown road to go hang out and

have fun and talk comics and buy a couple of

things. I'm not saying that, but. But yeah, I

mean, absolutely. And the best thing, honestly,

for free comic book day, not only buying new

single issues, buy the trades. I mean, seriously,

buy trades, all that good stuff, folks. Absolutely,

free comic book day is coming up. I don't know.

We may end up doing an After Dark, and I may

find multiple hosts to do segments with for it

for getting there. Kind of like the Origins episodes.

I'm thinking, instead of reviewing the Free Comic

Day comics this year, I might do an overall Origins

episode where I get... various people's how they

came to know Freecom Book Day and how they got

into Freecom Book Day, if they still go, and

that kind of stuff. So I might do something like

that for Freecom Book Day this year, but as far

as reviewing the actual titles that are coming,

that's not happening. Okie dokie. Yeah. Make
