About this Episode

TFG1Mike and JT From Saskatoon break down Superior Spider-Man #22-25, diving into Otto's mad scientist schemes at Parker Industries, the brewing conflict with the Goblins, and Superior Venom's arrival. They discuss Dan Slott's tight storytelling as the series barrels toward its finale, debate Marvel's marketing-driven reboot decisions, and celebrate Humberto Ramos's vibrant art throughout these pivotal issues.

Hey, it's your friendly neighborhood Spider -Man

here, and I'm swinging by the Geekcast Radio

Network. Welcome to The Pullback. Join us as

we dig out our latest comics and discuss them

with a rotating panel of the GCRN crew. So sit

back and enjoy this week's Pullback. Hello and

welcome to the poll bag this is episode 57 point

five and as I announced in episode 56 point five

I've started doing point fives because It's not

always gonna be a point five, but it is for these

issues anyway because i didn't want to have to

wait all the way past the batman spotlight in

may here in the pullback i am of course tfg and

mike and we are here to discuss the second to

last storyline in the superior spider -man and

joining me for a third week in a row holy crap

is jt from saskatoon i'm back we need to stop

meeting like this Hey, you called me, man. Yeah.

So, alright, let's just get it right out of the

way. I was gonna save this to the end of the

show, but I'm just gonna get it out of the way

now. The April solicitations for Marvel have

come out. And even before that, I think before

the solicits even came out, I saw several interviews

with Dan Slott about what's going on with Spider

-Man. Now, me, I came in fresh. I read Amazing

698 -700, and I started with Superior No. 1 after

that. And I've been a huge proponent of what

Dan has written in Superior and the whole storyline,

and I think it could go on longer than what it

is. But, hey! We have to market to new readers.

We have to take advantage of this new sequel

movie, Amazing Spider -Man 2. So hey, let's bring

Peter back again. I'm so not thrilled with this.

Gee, I couldn't tell at all. No, I mean, I'm

kind of in that, I'm not, maybe not, I don't

feel as strongly as Mike might, folks, but...

I know I'm a little sad that they yeah that they're

bringing them back so soon because it's been

like not even quite two years you know all said

and done and but yeah it's it's everything's

tied into like a media push nowadays it's it's

part of the I I would like to think it's not

such a Machiavellian scheme that you know because

come spring they got the all -new Marvel now

Promotions coming out through a lot of the Marvel

titles, you know a lot of new number ones a lot

of new point one jumping on points and all that

and Will you explain to me cuz I don't I don't

get the point of this explain to me What the

point is of naming superior 27 27 point now What

the hell is that? It's tying in cuz like how

a couple of years ago. They had Well a few years

ago they had like the heroic age after like you

know Norman Osborn had gone power mad and was

like this evil Nick Fury and Tried to take over

the United States and that everything was rebranded

as the heroic age It was kind of just a way to

reinvigorate You know the fun and everything

into a lot of Marvel titles because everything

got so bloody serious for a while And that's

what the same thing with the Marvel now Okay,

you know, it was just it's kind of a rebranding,

you know And it's like a lot of like we'd spoken

before in a previous episode the point ones are

meant to be kind of jumping on point for new

readers So Marvel now and all -new Marvel now

with you know, all -new number ones, you know,

it's creative rosters are being shuffled around

You know some titles are being Whatever reason

being rebooted at number one again. I mean And

I thought in the 90s like when they had like

heroes reborn after onslaught, you know, they

had like that 12 -issue Run with Jim Lee and

Rob Liefeld came back to Marvel. It was like

sweet They're doing something new and then they

cut those and they renumbered, you know everything

like fantastic for an Iron Man with all -new

number ones and Then down the road they switched

back to the classic numbering. So it went from

being like say number 23 to number 417 Jesus

it's just it's a it's kind of a jump. It's just

a huge jumping on Renaissance kind of for new

readers, which is really what they're thank God.

They're not pulling a DC is all I'm saying Don't

even get me started We will Steve and I will

talk about the DC Solicitations in episode 59

of the show, but I joined for that just but just

don't. Yeah. You wish you could be there for

that? Well, no, I'd say I'd join you for that.

But I mean, it would just be like an hour or

so of me just screaming obscenities all over

Dan or Dan DiDio's name. So, you know, better

nothing is said. So yes, it's the older. So I

was saying I wish I could join you. All right.

So I am going to read this from newsarama .com.

The link will be in the post. But I just want

to let everybody know, I want to make sure I

get everything right. This is from their article,

What We Learned From Marvel's April 2014 Solicitations.

Yes, Superior Spider -Man is ending. So Superior

Spider -Man number 31 does carry the quote unquote

series finale tag, and that ends all speculation

about it continuing somehow, right? Well, not

quite. Of course, this incarnation of the series

is ending, but we are still not completely convinced

that Amazing Spider -Man will be the only ongoing

solo Spidey series. Sure, we'll see some final

fate for Otto Octavius here, but if there's one

thing for sure, it's that Dan Slott plans ahead

and he does not let things go. So where does

the end of Superior Spider -Man leave us? Well,

there's another Spider -Man in New York, still

presuming he doesn't somehow get back to 29 .9

in the next five issues. And that means Miguel

O 'Hara needs a new role to play in the modern

day. There's also the fact that while messed

up a bit along the way, Otto, for the most part,

did reform and did a lot of good in the last

year and change. So yes, Superior Spider -Man

number 31 is the series finale, but that doesn't

have us convinced just yet that it means we won't

see an all -new Superior in May. First of all,

why does... Okay, I get that... They want new

readership and that's that that was one of the

quotes that Dan Stan slotted said in one of his

interviews that You have to bring in new readers

and most most people know I mean if you're going

to see a movie that has the character of Peter

Parker in it Then you if you want to read a comic

you're gonna have to read that character in it.

So my question is We have What Seven, eight,

nine different titles with Batman in them. Batman

is all over the DC universe. Why can't there

exist the Otto Superior and the Peter Amazing

in the same universe on two different books?

And if the people like me who really enjoy the

Superior stories and want to continue reading

those, why won't they do that? Isn't that...

Because then we'd get confused Mike No, not really

because if you market it that hey superiors for

the fans that you know have been reading it and

Then I meant this all -new amazing is for the

new fans the people that we want to bring in

to read and find out more I don't know it just

It just kind of pisses me off. It really does.

Well, yeah, I mean that's that was the whole

thing again like I said with the You know with

Marvel now and all -new Marvel now. It's it's

a means of bringing on new readers and By and

large the legend of spider -man is spider -man

is Peter Parker So this whole thing with you

know, Peter Parker is really dr. Octopus is spider

-man would confuse the kids and then they wouldn't

buy the comics or watch the cartoons or buy the

toys or eat their birthday cake off of a Spider

-Man paper plate. Oh god no. Well you know and

see here's the other thing. I don't find like

I don't find them bringing Peter back as offensive

as I find them bringing Coulson back. Because

the whole and again, I know I'm going on a tangent

here the whole point of Avengers when it ended

to bring that team together Coulson died That

was the whole point and now they've brought him

back as some life model decoy or some stupid

crap Whatever the hell and I'm not even watching

agents of shield anymore. I refuse to it after

five episodes. I was like nope out none of the

other characters that are on the team even like

sure Skye's hot that's about as all she's good

for um the rest of the team i don't like any

of the characters but my point is you did this

great thing in the film and then boom you're

going to basically crap all over it by bringing

him onto this tv series for these non -mutant

x looking like people characters and It's kind

of like watching the CIA of Marvel, really. It's

kind of like watching the Mission Impossible

of Marvel. Hey, we're ordinary agents. And I'm

one of those big proponents of, I want superheroes

on television, dammit. I don't care about the

other characters half the time. However, my point

here is, that happened, and now this is happening

with Spidey. I don't find this so offensive as

I do Agents of S .H .I .E .L .D., but I do...

I do have to ask myself, what was the point of

killing him in the 700th issue, in the first

place, or letting, not killing him, but letting

Peter die in Ox Body, if they're just gonna bring

him back less than two years later, you know,

a little more than two years later, just because

of, oh hey, we have a new movie! Well, you'd

have to ask the same question of the writers

that wrote The Death of Superman, because...

God forbid. It's a huge promotional push and

all that. Like we said when we started reviewing

this title, Mike, we know this day was coming.

We both kind of hoped it wasn't going to be so

goddamn soon. I'm sorry. 31 issues for a series

just doesn't... I didn't want this series to

be, oh my god, 700 issues. But at least get it

to 50. Well, yeah, seriously. And don't even

get me started on my reason why I'm cutting half

of my DC books come April, if not all of them,

because, yeah, that's just a travesty in itself.

All right. So we're going to take a quick break

and then we're going to come back to review the

Darkest Hours storyline from Superior Spider

-Man after this. And you, you're the main course.

Alright, so the Darkest Hours 4 issue storyline

covers Superior Spider -Man issue 22 through

25. Issue 22's cover. The main cover, yeah, it's

a little stark, but it's... for boating. I was

hoping for more of a liquid feel, kind of like

Spider -Man 3, but okay. Yeah, because, I mean,

with Spider -Man lying, you know, looks like

he fell from a great height and he's lying on

what is essentially broken pavement, but it looks

like the Venom symbiote, so... Yeah, it's the

Venom symbol, yeah. And there's a couple of,

like, alternate covers. You got one... Not entirely

certain who did the art, but it's like classic

Spidey versus classic Venom. Oh, cool. And then

there's Agent Phil Coulson photo cover of, you

know, Coulson just looking a little stoic and

whatnot. Why would they do a photo cover of Coulson

for Spider -Man? Well, it's they're promoting

agents of shield and this is a marvel comic book

and how dare we question what they do with their

promotions It's it's just what they do. I mean

you look at uh some of the alternate covers for

different Like they have like uh And we've had

a rant on this a time or two before like they've

had variant uh, like there's baby avengers variant

covers or Marvel Animals Avengers covers where

it's like, you know, the Hulk and Spider -Man

except they're like kiddies Or something like

that. It's just it's a it's a promotional variant

dig. Yeah It's a promotional variant, but it's

a stupid promotional variant. They should be

promoting the new movie coming up not fucking

agents of shield What's on a more consistent

basis Marvel movies or the the most awesome weekly

television show ever that takes forever to answer

one? Frickin question The ecast radio network

in the pull bag is not responsible for any opinions

on this show by JT at all whatsoever Wow, that's

the quickest you've ever thrown me under the

bus Mike good Well done Yeah, it's just a promotional

thing to I know it just it's almost completely

useless unless yeah, you're right unless they're

Promoting the movie, but it's a Marvel show and

this is a Marvel comic and that's really as simple

an explanation as you can give So we're back

to the standard four panel recap no more Daily

Bugle In all four of these issues no more Daily

Bugle. I miss that. Yeah, I mean they used to

do Like I like the Daily Bugle thing. I hope

they at least bring that back when You know,

the old Parker Luck returns later on this year.

And this one, it's not even really recapping

the story of what's going on previously. It's

just basically a rundown. What they've done is

what Slott and the artists have done here. Slott

and Christos Gage for writers and Humberto Ramos

for pencils. all those people what what they've

essentially done here is they've set this up

to where if someone wants to come in fresh without

having read the previous twenty one plus the

annual issues is that's the way i look at it

i mean i mean you look at the four panels it

says when auto -activities was dying saved the

greatest trick for you know whatever else and

It's basically set up for any new reader if they

want to come in with just this story Yeah, if

they pop in on this particular issue and you

know it also it catches you up. I mean it really

It cuts out a lot of the story, but it's like

a doctor octopus is spider -man He's got henchmen

in his island base starting his known business,

and then they give you that quick blurb of What

the deal is with the agent venom so But yeah,

I hope they bring the daily buko back eventually.

I mean they kind of wrote it out after those

two issues with stunner Yeah prior to this so

I Mean, hopefully Peter will come back and he'll

we'll see what happens in the future. I don't

want to speculate Yes, too soon to speculate

what's gonna happen with Peter. So we'll see

what happens. But yeah, I mean with this issue

it's the return of uberto ramos who I love, was

it Giuseppe Cammacoli, like who'd been doing

art for the last few issues on Spider -Man. You

can see in the three other panels there his work.

I like his work on Superior Spider -Man, but

I've been a fan of Roberto Ramos' art since like

the late 90s when I first was getting into image

and he was doing this vampire comic called Crimson

there. which I would highly recommend to anybody.

You see how raw his art was back then, and how

it's not softened, but he's really kind of worked

out the kinks since then. And it's great that

he's back on Spider -Man here, and hopefully

he's on till the end of Goblin Wars, although

I'd have to look up who's doing the art on that.

But besides the fact, we open with Betty Branton,

Agent Venom, following the crime master's goons.

it mentions a Bennett and quick aside Bennett

Brandt was Betty's psychotic criminal brother

brother yeah and in the venom title that was

just recently cancelled he was basically blackmailing

venom into doing some of his dirty work and there's

the question of whether or not he truly died

in that storyline and Betty knows that flayed

like she used to date flash Thompson even before

he was venom and basically she called him in

to Am I is it just me or am I confusing glory

grant and Betty Brent up because I thought Betty

Brant was J Jonah Jameson's secretary Well classically

she was originally and okay. It was sometime

in like the mid to late 90s It was either during

or post -Clone Saga that Betty Brant decided

she was Lois Lane. Or maybe she just got sick

of being yelled at by Jolly Jonah. Oh my god.

Every time you talk about 90s comics, it hurts

my brain so much. Well, a lot of the 90s comics

hurt my brain, Mike. I'm nothing if not willing

to share. Jerk. I do like the art. I think the

art is really cool Agent Venom he kind of at

least in the panel up the left -hand panel opposite

the latest Spider -Man and Hulk smash ad He kind

of reminds me of Bane from Batman and Robin just

the way I don't mean him personally I mean just

the way the costume looks in that bottom panel.

Yeah, it just a little bit looks like Bane from

Batman and Robin. Well, I like Ramos's art. I

love when Betty and Flash are talking and you

see the mask kind of melt away off his face and

like kind of layers a bit and then you see where

it kind of wraps him back up and one of the things

I love about Ramos's art is he's really got this

talent for the kind of organic stuff. Like how

the symbiote melts away from flash his face and

all that and then it covers them back up like

it looks good or where you see where he's morphing

uh later on next page where he's morphing into

one of the crime master's goons and yeah you

see you know so he's you know shenanigans are

afoot and oh i love mad scientist rants But in

the next page where you see like the standard

dress code for the new Parker Industries Which

is the the company that auto is starting? Everyone

is wearing goggles white lab coat black leather

scientist gloves up to the elbow And just some

of the rants is like we shall crush anyone foolish

enough to challenge us We'll rise the heights

undreamed of and in the cafeteria. There will

be cake But don't expect that to be a regular

thing. I was like, oh, sure, sucker the bit with

cake and make them stay for salad. But yeah,

yeah. So Otto, as Peter's opening his own, you

know, stark industries, I mean, Parker Industries,

because that's basically what it is. Like, I'm

not saying Otto isn't brilliant, but Otto is

an arrogant son of a bitch. Yes, yes, he is.

And this whole thing. I love the fact that his

progeny is It was a Johnny from horizon labs

like horizon. Yeah, arrogant researcher from

there and It's just how he's basically like if

you couldn't What he listened to this guy for

five seconds and not realize that he has gone

full -on mad scientist. You are just not paying

attention And I still love them when he's outside.

He's talking to Johnny and he's like more polish

worker. I wanted to gleam And I love the fact

that he gets that mid rant about talking about

like their former partners at Horizon. They'll

beat on the doors screaming it save us and I

will whisper good heavens that's Jay Jameson's

car is my at may here. Like just that I love

the dialogue that slot rights like that like

he's setting up like this epic mad scientist

rant oh shit at me is here. You know and it's

you go in. And they're talking to Dr. Wertham,

AKA Cardiac, and you see Anna's working there,

she's got the little goldfish bowl, and you show

that, okay, it's not, Aunt May's not trying to

be a bitch or anything, but she sees Anna, and

she's like, oh, isn't Peter's commitment to diversity

wonderful? And Jay is like, uh i'm pretty sure

she got the job at her own merits there and she's

like oh crap that came out wrong so you know

you got them talking to dr wortham and you know

auto comes in at mays congratulating him and

basically he tells that at mays like it's basically

a post -op procedure because she's been on a

cane for a while since she got injured i think

it was with the spider -man annual and blackout

And he basically says, you know, I've made a

breakthrough in cybernetic technology, you know,

it's a simple procedure. And, you know, you go,

there you go, Atme is going to walk without a

cane. And the one, I forget what page number

it was, I think it was like 10 or 11, that last

panel with this smug, sinister look on Peter

slash Otto's face. where he's, I've worked long

and hard for this moment. Everything is going

exactly to plan. And then we find out that it's

all starting to fall apart at the bottom. Because

one of the greatest things about reading this

comic, it's kind of like watching Breaking Bad.

You're just waiting for the House of Cards to

fall apart. So when we go to the quickest side,

we go see it's Captain Watatabi, who's the Wraith.

She's investigating the disappearance of Carly

Cooper. And she see the, you know, apartments

been ransacked, but they haven't taken any card,

like credit cards or cash. They've just took

all her notes in her computers. And the captain

thinks that Spider -Man's involved because, well,

that's what they're looking into. Like what's

up with Spider -Man being funded by Dr. Octopus'

bank, or bank account, sorry, and see the spider

bots are everywhere. And she's basically ready

to bring him in dead or alive. Yes. Yes, she

is. Yeah, I... This story is really, really tight.

It... Slot does amazing writing. You know, even

though I, you know, I don't like the direction

that the future will take, but this story is

really, really awesome. Well, yeah, it's... that's

one of the best things, like, leading up to Goz

of Goblin Nation is... and the whole, like I

said, it's like watching Breaking Bad and...

you know the eventual fall of Walter White. You

were just waiting for the House of Cards to collapse

on auto and I mean it's such a slow burn the

way they're building up like this like Carly

and you know Captain Watanabe finding you know

the money trail and then Carly being kidnapped

by a goblin and then the captain's looking for

she's been missing you know and it's it's such

a great build like I I really it's like you said

yeah they're ending it on 31 I really hope That

it is like one hell of a finish. Yeah, so Let

me I gotta take a minute here cuz I gotta talk

about JJ You mean Jay senior? No, Jonah JJ. Okay,

triple J The mayor yeah, he's uh, go he's reverting

to his old ways. He's reverting to his old thinking

in me Pretty much. I mean, you can only keep

the beast cage for so long. And if there is nothing

I love more in the history of Spider -Man than

Jonah plotting the downfall of Spider -Man for

whatever reason, it could be something as petty

as he just doesn't trust him. And it was one

of the great reveals in early in Spider -Man

run that, you know, He just doesn't trust heroes

and he doesn't trust spider -man because you

know Jonah can never be as Selfless as spider

-man truly is so he's gonna do what he can and

try and tear him down But yeah, you see here

where? It's basically spider -man's You know

the the they that sorry his spider minions through

the use of the spider bots have caught wind of

Agent Venom scrapping with the the Crymasters

goons so Spider -Man calls in you know the Spider

-Mex and some minions and Jonah's like told by

the cops that there's this rumble down at the

docks and he's like oh jeez what am I oh Spider

-Slayers yes exactly what I need Like you just

see that that stark river is his head his hands

and also his eyes pop out. He's just like yes

Yeah, I just I Got to agree with the guy whoever

it was said spider slayers really the machines

that killed your wife yeah, like Well, I mean

for a while before superior like they had this

whole storyline where joint like the incoming

mirror of New York City Opted out because of

some bull which involves a character that actually

shows up later on in the storyline Anyway, they

have an interim election and Jonah becomes mayor

and he immediately creates an anti spider -man

patrol Where they basically take Mandroid armor,

which are like the armored super guards from

like the vault superhero or supervillain prison

and they Get updated with spider -slayer tech

And Spider -Man still runs roughshod all over

these guys. For a while they've kind of held

back because Jonah and Spider -Man had this deal

and then Spider -Man blackmails Jonah in order

to get Spider -Island and all that. I will say

that I hope with All New Amazing... Or whatever

the hell they're calling it. I think it's just

amazing number one now I don't know what it's

gonna be called, but with Peter returning seriously

if Peter's gonna return and this is gonna be

some form of Not necessarily a tie -in to the

amazing spider -man films, but like feeding off

of that. Yeah, I really want Jonah to go back

to the Beagle I liked him as mayor for a while

and in this issue, it's kind of like, oh no,

you're reverting. So if you're going to revert

Jonah, you need to go back and be the head of

the bugle. I don't hope they do that because

it's, I hope they keep him as the mayor or even

if he gets booted out of office, I just don't

want him to go back to the bugle because I like

the setup they have with Phil Yurick and Robbie

Robertson running the newspaper and they're running

it fairly. because there's only so much you I

can take of You know, like what's the point like

we really do not need Bill O 'Reilly in comic

book form anymore Which is like Jonah was the

proto Bill O 'Reilly like you think that the

bugle would have dried up and blown away like

dust in the wind after a couple of years of him

writing all these anti -spyreman articles at

least back in the day when newspapers were like

the primary source of information for people

Yeah, but anyway, it's I'm just saying I I hope

he stays as the mayor or something else but you

know, we get back to the agent venom kicking

the crime master goons and he mentioned the crime

master mentions Roderick Kingsley and a franchise

and This just ties back into an element Scott

a slot had in earlier comics that Roderick Kingsley

the original Hobgoblin has basically either bought

out or straight up stolen the names and masks

of various super criminals and he's basically

franchising them out like these guys you know

you buy you buy in on the crime master and then

you pay Kingsley a percentage of all the crap

you steal and this guy like this guy mid battle

he's like I bought the name of the mask from

the hobgoblin and you see him he just unmasks

it's like can I just go to jail now? It's like

some schmuck and then venom's talking to spider

-man like hey, thanks for helping me out, bro

And he's like flamethrower to the face Because

he wasn't there for the crime master he was there

for venom Yeah, and it leads up basically is

one hand he's got a flamethrower gauntlet spider

-man the other hand he's got a sonic webbing

and It's all designed to take down the symbiote

Mm -hmm, and it's like flash is like dude. It's

me flashy You know, it's it's me. I'm in control

and you see spider -man basically Not care. Yeah,

it's like the final full page thing. It's like

sorry flesh You must have me confused with someone

who cares and you see like he's about to drop

the coup de Gracie on him And see this and that's

basically how this this issue ends This storyline,

the superior storyline, it's like, again, why

it is so fresh for me is because you're taking

a character in Spider -Man and putting Doc Ock

inside of him. And everyone in Peter's life expects,

because it seems to me, and I know this is probably

not the case, but it seems to me a lot of people

either know Peter or know Spidey, or in some

cases they may know that Peter is Spidey. but

you take all of that, flip it on its ass, and

you have superior spot. How many people that

expected Peter, what I mean by this is not the

real Peter, but the auto -looking Peter, to just

be the same old Peter Parker that they know and

love. You've got Black Cat, that didn't work

out so well. You've got Flash, and very for the

second issue in. MJ I mean, you know MJ I mean

that that was You know that was over and done

with fairly fast Have we see you again and again

because My memory is fuzzy. I'm old Where's Harry?

Harry took his bouncing baby boy and got the

hell out of New York City. Okay, and They had

him a while back and I think it was just before

Peter it was either just before Peter was written

out or just after auto Took over. I think Harry's

living somewhere in like, Oregon or Seattle okay

with his you know with his new son and just he

wants out of the life, but Yeah, you know he's

like screw you guys. I'm going home Alright,

so Superior Spider -Man number 23, Darkest Hours,

part 2. The main cover, the cover that I got

was basically a half -naked Flash reaching out

to the Venom symbiote. Yeah, I got that one too,

although I may go back to start and get the alternate

cover, which was done by Scotty Young, who it's

basically Superior Spider -Man, you know, kicking

at Venom and Venom... you know, screaming at

him with the teeth and tongue and firing a couple

of Uzis at him. It's kind of a comical image,

but one I wouldn't mind having. And then, well,

now we got, it's still the four panel catch -up

page, but it's not the bugle. You know, references.

I miss the bugle. Yeah, I really do. but you

know at least this one is uh it's more catching

us up and what's going on in the story than the

last time you know p auto starting parker industries

carly being kidnapped by the goblins venom getting

whooped yeah but and whooped hard by uh the superior

spider -man and it goes in and i i love how there's

uh Chief Pratchett who was like this, you know

anti spider -man until he started, you know Ghosts

the cold stone cold Steve Austin stomping a mud

hole in villains asses Walking it dry. He catches

like the the franchisee of the crime master.

He's like I confess I ran guns. I'll give my

suppliers help me and You go in you see the symbiotes

kind of peeling off a flash a bit and He Basically,

I love the fact that you know a lot of the costume

that agent venom wears is the symbiote it basically

looks like he's Where it's like a super it's

like a venomized version of like a SWAT team

Tactical outfit, you know with the high collar

and the shoulder armor pads and shit But those

grenades aren't just for show because the symbiote

pops like every gas grenade he had on him and

basically allows Venom to recuperate and kind

of get the upper hand for a moment so he can

run away. And here's a phrase you've never, you

probably never would have heard in a Spider -Man

comic before this. Bring me the head of Flash

Thompson! I was like, man, I hope there isn't

somebody recording this and putting it on YouTube

because that shit's gonna go viral. Yeah. but

yeah it's and you can see through the dialogue

that this uh you know flash is running but he's

also trying to keep the symbiote under control

because one of the things of him being agent

venom is he's basically for a while now in the

comics they've been doping the symbiote so it's

no more intelligent than say a dog whereas in

the past it's basically taken on it's developed

a sentience of its own and You know, you had

told me, I think it was, when we did, um... Think

it was episode 56 when we did 20 21 an annual

number one that my whole vision of venom and

Venom Eddie Brock venom and flash being the jerk

that he was in high school would probably change

in it It kind of has I mean flash is really turned

into you were right. I hate to admit it that

Canadian was right, but You were right. I mean

he does he does grow and you do feel sympathy

for him And I'm so glad that the venom here is

not just a standard. Hey, it's Eddie Brock. He

wants revenge Yeah, I mean right now if I recall

my storyline correctly Eddie is still he still

has a symbiote in the comic Except it's the child.

It's a symbiote called toxin, which is like the

child of the carnage symbiote and he's gone I

think they had this storyline in Venom where

he was going around hunting down and destroying

other symbiotes whether or not he could get them

off of their hosts so he's still looming large

out there they kind of brought Eddie back to

where he was originally with the Venom but you

know two degrees to the left Yeah, I still love

the the call that Anna calls Spider -Man is how

did you get my oh, honey? How are you? and Basically,

they're having brunch with at me and uncle Jay

and and it's like kissy kissy and his spider

-man is just kissy kissy Hmm. Yeah now given

that kissy kissy thing and then the where he

Bitches out his spider minions there. It's you

know how hard could it be to find someone dressed

as a goblet? He'd is that because he's pissed

about their job performance or the fact that

they almost caught him making Making cougu eyes

over the phone with his girlfriend, so I'd say

it's because of their shitty job performance.

Yeah But there we go back to the underground

and okay Again, because I'm only two years into

reading comics full -time Was Carly ever a different

character other than her? Like was she ever did

she ever have an alter ego or did as something

at how what's? Yeah, what's the deal with Carly?

Okay, so in the first one, it says the Goblin

Underground that one panel left right? We got

Norman Osborn og goblin. We got Phil Yurek the

goblin night or Yeah, and then we got menace

now menace was When they did the brand new day

reboot of spider -man post deal with the devil

a few years ago Harry osborne was dating this

uh Chick and what I forget what her original

name was because I haven't read those issues

in a while Basically harry's girlfriend was like

the daughter of this guy was going to be mayor

of new york city And this one day when she's

helping harry clean out one of his dad's apartments,

she finds a goblin cache hidden in the wall and

she gets sprayed with this new variant of the

goblin juice that that's not a mask that's actually

her face and the horns growing out of it and

she took the name Menace and Carly was this girl's

like best friend and roommate and she and Peter

was kind of making the goo -goo eyes at the time

and then they she and Peter hooked up kind of

became like you know Batman and Commissioner

Gordon because she was a CSI cop and she would

help out Peter but she's never actually had like

a secret identity you know until well you'll

see we'll see in the next yeah yeah we'll see

in this issue see that's that's what when I was

wondering about because I haven't done this in

a while but I have to Sorry, I have to reading

through this issue. This is one of the worst

paste Issues when it comes to product placement

whatsoever. Yeah, like it really really is You

get the recap page You get one page of story

and then an Avengers assemble ad which that show

is nothing but ass You get the opposite page

with another ad for all the Disney, Hulk, Spider

-Man, whatever stuff. You get another page, one,

you know, side by side. And then we have a, and

this is the first time, at least since I've been

reading Spider -Man, that they've ever done this.

We get a fold out of all the solicits that are

coming up for all the new number ones. You know

another oh yay three full pages of story and

then an ad and then we get to where we are where

Peter and Anna Maria are going back to his apartment

and she Walks in and it's a mess And it's not

a like a slobbery teenager mess it's like a mad

scientist evil genius Yeah, she's I'm not an

evil genius unless my desk is a mess, you know

that that kind of thing It's just like Peter.

We need to clean this up Yeah, well, I just love

the really like I said it before I'll say again

I love the relationship between Anna and Otto

Yeah, and I love that that that pattern is like

much of my work is at a critical stage and she

just makes the goo -goo eyes Which again is another

element of Roberto Ramos's art is like he does

great goo -goo eyes Where she's like you want

to make me happy don't you and he's like, uh

Yes, dear Yeah, you know which again, it's gonna

be great, but it's gonna ultimately suck When

you know it all goes down Yeah, and and even

if they keep her around like post superior and

amazing like how is Peter gonna deal with that?

because Yeah, see, that's my other question.

My other question about from Superior to New

Amazing is are they just going to hit a reset

button like they've done in the past and just

reboot Peter to his... Okay, sure. Pete has had

all these problems with dying and having his

essence erased from himself and et cetera, et

cetera, et cetera. So there's that. But are they

then going to just... Reboot it to hey MJ. I'm

back. Yay. Let's get married because if that's

the case I won't read it past issue one. I don't

think they're gonna do that And there's a whole

the whole reason of him and Mary Jane not being

together kind of ties into the whole deal with

the devil thing which Will have maybe have to

do an episode in and of that Yeah, like Mike

asked JT explain this Yeah, but we'll see what

happens in future. Well, yeah, you see flash

is broken into a hospital to There's a way of

like Healing the symbiote with certain, you know

chemicals and pharmaceuticals and such and he's

also probably bandaging himself up to After the

the beating he got from spider -man so, you know,

he's Talking to the symbiotes rolling away, and

he's trying to find someplace to lay low and

get some help and Basically mentioned that you

know MJ's is like this hot new club in town and

we go to the next page and You see yes after

getting firebombed by the Goblin kids a while

ago of MJ is you know cashed in on the insurance

and rebuilt the club and reopened and And she's

wearing a goblin dress. A shade of goblin green,

yeah. Yeah. And then you have, of course, here

comes the Killjoy and Captain Watanabe. Yes.

And it's the drops upon that Carly's been missing

and she wants to, you know, say what the hell's

going on. And I really love the design on MJ.

Oh, yeah. Mean it's just awesome. It's just great

the way she looks. This is one of the reasons

why and Maybe if they do this somehow in the

new amazing I Think at this point I will get

the first issue just to see what happens And

you'll go from there and I'll go from there.

But if they really want me to stick around they

bring back Felicia. Yes, we know, Mike, you want

the kitty. Mike wants the pretty kitty. After

we're at MJ's, we go back to Peter's place. I

still love the thing. I could build a comprehensive

mechanized storage system, not before brunch

you wouldn't. Yeah, and then flash shows up and

I love the Where auto and flash give like the

kind of a rundown of you know? Who we are and

how we know each other that that kind of faded

image in the background of classic Spidey and

venom Yep, which I just love that look yeah,

that is very awesome and Basically go from there

to Parker Industries where? You know, it's post

-Aunt May having the surgery, and... And then

you see that, you know, she walked without the

cane, no limp, and... You know, Aunt May is just

like, where the hell's Peter? Yeah, I... I don't

know what it is about this Aunt May. I like her

style, as far as her personality goes. But...

She just... Don't know she's not drawn right

to me. Oh, maybe it's I'm so used to seeing Rosemary

Harris from the the original movies Yeah, maybe

it's I'm used to seeing the 94 cartoon version

or even more pep and energy in the last few years

than like like yeah, and that's fine she can

have pep and energy, but does she have to look

like she's a hundred and seven years old I mean

her look in this it like When at that bottom

panel when she's jumping into Jay's arms, yeah,

just she just doesn't look right to me Well,

I mean she I figured I'd have to look up on the

wiki, but she's got to be like, you know Said

well 70s 80s somewhere in there in terms of age

because I mean Jonah's like 50s 60 something

like that Yeah, and this is his dad. He's thought

we're talking about here with you know Jolly

Jonah Jay So I love we go to the next, the next

page, we go to the, you know, formerly Osborn

Chemical now Alchemax, and then they're meeting

with Jonah, and he basically wants them to build

new spider slayers. Because, you know, he there's

something wrong about Spider -Man, and we need

to be prepared. If you won't take the contract,

I'll find someone who will and then they bring

in Douchebag McGee or Tiberius Stone Although

I'm just gonna call him douchebag McGee from

now on because that's what he is and his Backup

well, no, I'm just saying didn't wait wait wait

wait wait didn't Phil Go to jail who? Yeah, didn't

Phil go to jail That's not Phil. That's I know

that's not Phil Phil went to jail and then menace

broke him out under orders from Norman Osborne

That's okay, that's what I kids I will say that

when I believe it was the hobgoblin issues where

It could be wrong, but it was the first time

I noticed Tiberius stone and Phil yurek And they

both at least at one point in that issue look

like the same damn guy. Yeah, it's a very similar

I think that was in Ramos's art as well But yeah,

I know they looked very similar, but yeah douchebag

Stone comes in with his assistant Spider -Man

2099. I mean Michael O'Mara I mean Miguel O 'Hara

and just in case you forgot that We got a little

back to the future woven into the threads of

this story Yeah, and so it's basically they're

gonna be working on this new spider slayers and

then we go to Tribeca which And that was the

one thing I liked specifically that note that

this is set in the neighborhood of Tribeca in

New York City Because he had no idea where Peter's

apartment was or if they've mentioned before

I completely missed it. I just like the little

not little bits like that and The what at May's

question to Peter and it's just it's not quite

shut your horror mouth kind of like what the

hell, but Aunt May asks if they have kids, are

they gonna be all right? And I'm just, I read

that when I first read this issue and it came

out, I was like, whoa, whoa, Aunt May, whoa.

Like really, you're going there? You know, it's

like, I thought you were better than this, May.

I mean it's it's a completely natural question

don't get me wrong like you you would be concerned

if your son is marrying a small person or dating

a small person and you know you're gonna have

kids are they gonna be all right and you see

Peter get up and he's like literally got the

shut your whore mouth look on his face is the

only way to describe it he's like he's getting

upset and everything everyone's trying to calm

down and You know lashes like I should leave

yeah, I need to talk to you dude new legs What

do you think huh, huh? And And I should say that

this is all a ploy on Peter's part because he

knows well, yeah, we don't know that he knows

just yet, but It's but yeah, we go back to again

once again back to Parker Industries there You

know building frat flash Robocop legs and then

spider -man comes into consult Yeah, that wasn't

um People should have noticed that yeah, really

seriously again, and I know we've talked about

this before and I know it's happened over the

last oh God many issues Well many issues, but

not even that I mean It's probably been happening

since 1962 that, oh my god, Peter Parker walks

out of a room and all of a sudden Spider -Man

shows up. What is going on? Why can't we figure

this out? It's kind of like, hey Superman, you

seen Clark Kent? He was just here a second ago.

Yeah, for the last, yeah, like for the last,

and I don't mean to make this a joke at all,

but it has been this long, since Spider -Man's

inception. It's been 52 years. We've had 52 years

of, hey, Peter, where's Spider -Man? I'll be

right back. Hey, Spider -Man, where's Peter?

Oh, I saved him on the way down. Yeah, basically.

That's what it is. But I like that Spider -Man

pops in and Dr. Wortham's, what you doing, dude?

Oh, it's a diagnostic tool. It's like an ultrasound.

And I love the line. were those like, okay, I

don't see why sonic imaging would cause any problems.

And, you know, I love how when they draw sonic

energy or something, it looks like basically

flashes, you know, getting electrocuted, you

know, because they suck the symbiote right out

of them. And I love like the douchebag Spider

-Man is like, what did you save you? You're welcome.

You know, new legs. That's on me. You're welcome.

You know, it's just being a douchebag. And then

the symbiote, you know, it's like, it's pain,

it's scare, it's in pain, it's scared, it's a

hell of a lot stronger than you remember. And

then the symbiote makes like a facehugger in

the alien movies and possesses the superior Spider

-Man. We are the superior Venom which is a creepy

as all get out what design like and you imagine

if if oh god I wish I could do this But can you

imagine if Hank is area said that line is Eddie

that would be awesome. Oh That would be so creepy

Or or a better voice than not to knock Hank's

area you get to Robert Kepper like, tea bag from

Prison Bake? That would be such a - Prison Bake!

The newest cooking show on TLC News! Prison Break!

Yeah, but you know what I mean, who I'm talking

about, right? Yes, I know what you're talking

about. I like that it would make such a great

Venom in animated form, but... Boy, I mean, you

look... Going on to, like, the next issue, first

of all, that cover... That is creepy. That's

very creepy. Like, nothing but teeth and tongue.

Yeah, teeth, tongue, and Twizzlers, both black

licorice and red licorice. Oh truly, you're the

worst kind of villain than a black licorice.

So true. And I don't know, I'm not aware if there's

any alternate covers for this one. Just got this

cover at the store Yeah, that's the only one

I mean it's the only one I noticed I will have

to look up and see if there were any I Don't

remember there being any yeah But the FAW later,

but so we got again for panel recap no bugle

still darn you Marvel and Like I said you get

to the You go to the next page, I mean you look

at the way they're drawing spider -man, you know,

it's kind of like all Basically, it's very reminiscent

kind of of like the xenomorph or you know, quote

-unquote alien from aliens and the way they're

drawing spider -man you got the tentacles you

got like the thin and wiry body and Just looking

as creepy as all get out Flash to his credit

tries to talk the symbiote down and get it to

come back to him. Yeah Yeah, again, that's why

I like flash because flash is Trying to do the

right thing and yet Yeah, and then Peter or awk

doesn't let him yeah, and then you know, dr Wortham

cardiac steps in and tries to help out and it's

an element of his this power that like he's basically

a cyborg and that his power source is somewhat

volatile it's kept contained by this metal mesh

skin that he wears so are you telling me that

cardiac is essentially the captain okay and i

know he's not nuclear but he's essentially the

captain adam of the marvel universe no there's

somebody else who's the captain adam of the marvel

universe no i know but you said the because of

the skin keeps him And that's what I'm thinking,

is that because of, at least specifically in

JLU, the suit that Captain Adam, because he's

pure energy, the suit saves it. No, I get that.

It's analogous to that. And I do like the line,

a physician heal thyself, which is the most...

Yeah, that's pretty awesome. It's kind of a douchey

thing to say. he's like oh and remember a true

monster would have gutted you like a fish and

then you know venom breaks out and i like that

one side woman yeah that was pretty awesome and

you see a superior venom calls into spider island

and find me crime and we go to some other franchisees

of the uh of the hobgoblin and it's just reading

that and I think this one is I think this is

like Norman going out yeah this is like Norman

or Phil going out dressed up as classic hobgoblin

to rip off rip off you know Kingsley's cut from

the Bruin not the Grizzly And, you know... There's

no Adam's family here. Nope. Just to... Quick

aside. I think up where we left off with the

cover. Yes, there was a variant cover. I'm looking

at it on Marvel .com. It's basically Venom eating

Spider -Man. If it was reversed... Because Spidey's

on the left and Venom's on the right. If it was

reversed, it would be in a really, really awesome

homage to Spidey 94. Yeah. But there was one

variant cover according to Marvel .com. OK, yeah,

done by Stefano Caselli is absolutely beautiful

art. Yeah, I still, as creepy as it is, I still

like the regular cover. Yeah. So you go from

the quick interlude back to Parker Industries

where you find out that the chemicals that flash

had been using to control the symbiote basically

is It's like the scorpion post symbiote because

Matt Gargan the scorpion was venom for a long

time Basically flash can't survive without symbiote

Yeah, his body's gonna shut down and die so and

then we go the the two -page spread of Superior

Venom fighting crime, and it has absolutely one

of the funniest lines I've read in this comic

in a while, it's just Spiderbot 845 texting while

driving, and he pulls the guy over, ask yourself,

was that text worth your life? And the guy is

just like, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! You

know, I will say... would have liked it if when

the symbiote took over Spidey that somehow it

took I know I'm combining genres here combining

companies but the symbiote taking over Spidey

I wish it would have pulled a brainiac and taken

over everything Spidey has basically making the

spider -bots black instead of red that would

have been kind of cool You know, you got to think

branding Yeah, but yeah, that definitely would

have been cool. Then we get a call from Anna.

Apparently she's been crying then we go back

to Roderick Kingsley and It's just okay, I like

the fact that they're keeping us apprised of

You know Kingsley's been involved in their building

towards the Goblin Nation storyline, but it's

Really freaking annoying that they keep breaking

in to that part from the main story here Yeah

It's a little bit too much setup here, yeah,

it really is I Don't think it needs to be set

up that much To have it be it's just a little

too Way too much. Um, so Alright, so then we

go back to flash again Oh, no, I'm Yeah, we go.

Okay, so we've got the auto goes to Anna and

she thinks it's all her fault for the way He

blew up at at May before Yeah, and then we go

to an interlude that it's actually I think moves

the story along Where you see I was Norman that

ripped off the Bruin and he looks at Phil is

like Really? You were scared of Kingsley? What

up, bro? And you go to Menace and Carly and,

well, so Lily Hollister, that's the name, the

real name of Menace is Carly's former best friend.

He's like, please don't let him do this because

Norman brings out the Joker formula. I mean,

the goblin juice. And literally... Wait, did

you say goblin or gummy? Goblin. I was going

to say, we're not bouncing around like gummy

bears over here. We don't need gummy berry juice.

No, it's the good old goblin juice. Chalk full

of vitamins and absolute insanity. Yes. So, you

know, she gets a big old face full. And I know

it's meant to be an aerosol, but from the art,

it looks like it's like, remember Nickelodeon

Gack? No, yeah. It looks like he basically just

straight up slimed her. And, uh, you know, she

starts undergoing the change. And we go back

to, you know, MJ and she's going to visit, uh,

May and Jay, and then Peter shows up and immediately

goes into like full on raging douchebag mode.

Yeah. And then, like I said before, how he kind

of had shut your whore mouth, though this, the

bottom panel. at me I forbid you to work with

Spider -Man and he literally like this is the

perfect realization of the concept of shut your

whore mouth because you just see his face like

contorts and almost caves in on it and he's like

you forbid me yeah and he's like like you almost

see the pampand coming up like he is ready to

smack Yeah, he's ready to not not that I wish

violence on women or at me, but oh, yeah, it's

literally he's about to choke a bitch you know,

and then MJ pulls him aside and Is like trying

to bitch him out and all that and he? well two

things one that bottom right panel of MJ right

before Peter Morris, there's something right

I don't know if he slipped up on that art, but

her face just looks weird Um where she's yelling

you can't treat people like that It just her

face looks kind of yeah, it's it's a minor Nate

the minor Nagging little thing and then he fully

Morrison for looks like she got a bad look looks

like she got a bad nose job Yeah, and then he

he Morrison to superior venom and MJ freaks out

and then captain wanted obby More or less arrests

MJ like she doesn't straight -up arrest her,

but she's like gonna take her an interrogator

for what's going on and we get back to even more

franchisees of the Hobgoblin where you know venom

superior venom shows up and It's to the police

station and Mary Jane uses her one phone call

to call the Avengers And I still like that. How

did you get this number? I'm a friend of spider

-man's he's been possessed by venom And I love

the look of the black widow's face there. She's

like Pasha boy Yeah, it was a total Captain Planet

link a moment And it's just you see the lineup

Avengers that are gonna be you know cracking

some heads next issue You know pretty much it's

gonna be very very interesting overall i love

the art in this i think it's really done well

um the story is is really really interesting

it's really ramping up and you really see how

bad auto can be yeah when he's controlled by

a symbiote well and it goes towards uh You know,

it goes towards like Humberto Ramos's art, which

you when you look at it's like his style is still

there It hasn't changed that much since the 90s

But I think it's in time how his artwork has

tightened up and kind of softened a bit And also

the anchor anchors are a huge part of this. It's

just it's got this almost animated feel like

Not cartoony, but it's just got this There's

it's more vibrant I think now than it used to

be. Yeah. Yeah, it really, really is. And just

trying to see if there is a... Because the cover

for, well, the main cover, which is, it's pretty

plain, all things considered, the cover for...

Issue 25. Yeah, I mean, it's superior Venom.

Yeah. You know, just looking... There were there

was one cover. I'm looking at it on marble .com

now Yeah, we should have got this should have

been the main cover. Oh my god Oh, is this the

the one where he's like holding the hand up to

block the camera? That's not what I'm thinking.

I'm thinking one of two things talk to the hand

or bitch, please Actually, I like that. It's

the bitch, please cover But JG Jones, yeah, he's

just like no flash photography no flash photography

This is comic -con damn it you can't film anything.

Yeah, not unless we're involved and we're getting

a cut Yeah, that's kind of awesome But yeah,

so I mean again the recap we see what's going

on here. I Will say that that one recap image

you see Carly like clearly That's one of the

best things about Rammus's art is clearly you

can see the pain That she's going through as

the goblin juice begins to affect her yeah, that

was just creepy and Just the the first page here

where you know see the superior superior venoms

get into it with these MOOCs and then the Avengers

show up And I like how he kind of almost breaks

character for instance like you see the normal

speech pattern and it goes to venom Where my

dear spider -woman I so want to hurt you and

I can no longer think of a reason not to Okay

back to you know Kingsley Who's sending in some

other franchisees to Help Bruin Devil spider

and whatever this flamethrower douche is and

you get then back into the fight and you see

the the Venom, Venom's not only like amplifying

his abilities which is what the Venom does I

mean that's a whole reason Venom is like Spider

-Man is because you know he was on him first

and kind of took kind of copied his powers but

so not only is his powers jacked up and he's

because he's got the eight extra arms because

of the little spider strapped to his back his

attitude is enhanced as well and he's like i

am not your equal i am your better where he dodges

a blow from uh thor's hammer Yeah, it kind of

reminds me of Knight Rider. I ain't your pal

And then you see him he calls in the troops like

the spider minions in the mechs we're going to

war with the Avengers and Hobgoblin has Or sorry

Goblin Knight has infiltrated spider island we

go back to the underground and I Think the Goblin

Jews put a little vava in the vooms for Carly

Yeah, and she kind of borrowed MJ's dress to

or they just had I think it's just being goblins

that they've got a ready supply of chain mail

Yeah, because you see like okay, maybe okay,

maybe menace didn't grow the horns I know originally

when she showed up she kind of grew horns and

then Osborne experimented on her because Originally

when Lily would morph into menace. She had like

red hair and gray skin whatever, but but you

see like the lab they're in they got egg extra

goblins mask gliders pumpkin bombs and Carly's

new name monster Yeah, it's like the other black

demon eyes and well it looks better later on

but just when they do the next page and you see

the close -up of her face with like The messed

up skin the green blotches. Yeah I think there's

something up with Norman because like ages ago

it was revealed that Norman escaped from the

hospital and just this look here where it's like

hey don't let the theatrics few it's me and just

the declaration Norman Osborne and then and you

don't realize this until you see this panel he

has not taken off the mask once since superior

started And I got a nagging suspicion this is

somebody else. Now, maybe I'm just reading it

wrong, and this is Norman, and he's just gone

full -on nutsy cuckoo. I don't, and this is just

me - It'd be a hell of a twist, is all I'm saying.

Yeah, it would be. This is just my assumption

as far as what I know of Norman in the cartoons.

At least 94. Norman wasn't as calculating as

whoever's in this mask. Norman was batshit crazy.

Well, that's the cartoon. I mean, if you look

over the years, Norman Osborn, I mean, the whole,

they explained in, it was a few, a couple months

after the clone saga ended, they had a special

called the Osborn Journal, which basically illustrated

how Osborn was basically behind the clone saga

the entire time. And then for years he was, a

few years he was like this Lex Luthor -esque

villain in the Spider -Man comics. And then he

went nuts. And then he was better. And then he

went nuts. And then he got the job running the

Thunderbolts program during Civil War. And then

he became Evil Nick Fury. And then he became

the head of like this, of the Evil Hammer organization

once... It was disgraced and Hammer was basically

like a conglomeration of like AIM and HYDRA and

several other villains. And then he tried to

become a super -adaptoid and went into a coma.

So he has shown to be like devious and calculating.

It's just, like I said, the dialogue here almost

suggests that this isn't Norman, but we'll find

out in Goblin Nation. Yeah, we'll find out in

Goblin Nation I do really love the it's it's

kind of movie -esque, but it probably isn't but

Where the Avengers are and you see a Cap telling

Iron Man. No don't come here when you see that

bottom panel It looks like that shot, even though

I know it's a black and gold suit, not a red

and gold suit, that shot looks something just

out of the box. I like the fact that they're

in both the Iron Man title and here, how they're

doing the interior view of Iron Man's helmet

with the heads -up display and all that, which

is a really cool visual aesthetic that I'm glad

they kind of borrowed that from the movies because...

It's kind of cool to see that inside view yeah,

and then you see we go back to Parker Industries

and flash is fading fast and cardiac is Barely

whole it's basically, you know chewing gum and

bailing wire holding him together and you know

Iron Man walks in and repulsors the wound closed

on cardiac and Then that's one way to heal. Yeah,

it's like Concentrated light lasers to the face

And then they get to work on well, they reference

prior to you know, brand new day how Peter was

working for Stark at the time because they were

living in Avengers Tower and you know, he wasn't

working so much at the Daily Bugle anymore and

they we go back to the fight and Love the fact

that the superior venom keeps dodging Mjolnir

because they have that awesome shot where you

know Thor's have at thee and You see they're

like the just go whipping past and Venom's like

well dodge to the side No, you know what that

reminds me of Power pad left pause jump Captain

in And then they I love the little where Captain

America helps up Wolverine and they mention in

the Wolverine comics he doesn't have his there

was this huge storyline called Killable where

Wolverine loses his healing factor and that was

a really if you can get in to find the trade

on that folks I would recommend is actually a

pretty cool story because how does Wolverine

go forward without being you know the walking

He or that he is and then they have this one

page where the citizens of New York City You

see that they're really starting everyone's turning

to J Jonah Jamison basically because they see

Spider -man beaten up on Captain America in Times

Square You know, then they had the recent inhumanity

crossover With the infinity where you know spider

-man didn't do anything the Avengers saved us

from aliens Yeah, now he's running around putting

people in the hospital for jaywalking. They basically

Turn on spider -man and start smashing all his

spider -bots you know and you know they have

that like the there's like the plus -sized lady

Shall we say who brings this saddlebag of a purse

down on? one of them and you see this guy who's

like obviously like a tagger sound like a spray

like a graffiti artist he he's like hey over

here he's like feast your eyes on this pervert

and like hoses down one of the spider bots and

like you you can see like the the foundation

starting to crumble and the cards are gonna start

coming down so yeah it's It's one weird direction

that it was coming a slot has taken this story.

I don't mean weird isn't bad It's just it's really

strange what Otto has had to put up with. Yeah

Well, it's I mean, it's just it's the arrogance

of the douchebaggery inherent in his good intentions

finger quotes Yeah, I will be the superior spider

-man spider -man never patrolled the city 24

-7 Well, I'm certainly not gonna do that, but

I'll have robots do it for me I mean, it's like,

you know, seriously is if we lived in that world,

it's like sweet spider -man ooze I'd probably

smash those things on principle to begin with

You know, it's just it's creepy and then we go

menace and monster You know, we're attacking

the franchisees of hobgoblin once again and I

do kind of dig the female green goblin design

of monsters suit with you know, the cape and

the Tunic and the chainmail and all that She

full -on kills a dude by running her goblin glider

into him and a car Yeah, I don't know I wish

I Wish this stuff to Carly didn't happen. Yeah,

I really did like I liked her as herself Don't

need to see her as a goblin. Well, yeah I just

hope they keep her around in the new amazing

because I really do like her as a character and

it's You know, it's I like MJ and all but it's

it's been done. So Yeah, but I like that Goblin

Knight. Okay, the guy I think the characters

the super villain ID was like steelback or something

You know, I guess he was alive and then Goblin

Knight Well fixes that in a goddang hurry and

he calls out Kingsley and we go back to where

Spider -Woman's got this ability where she can

use her pheromones to like mellow out like an

opponent and that doesn't work on Venom and he

just starts like whipping everybody again and

it's it's just I love the fight scenes between

Venom and the Avengers here because you see that

whether it's the symbiote or Spider -Man, it's

just like, this is another magnitude of power.

And then, you know, I love the fact that Tony

Stark shows up and he's like, if you're here,

where's, and then there's Iron Man. And he's

all like, I shouldn't have, I should have felt

you. And then the whole idea is like, as Spider

-Man or as Venom cannot be detected by Spider

-Man's senses, previous hosts to the symbiote

can't be detected by it that's interesting that's

really interesting and that's pretty awesome

because again it's going to it's going to the

movies again because okay I'm going to the movies

again because That's the only place I've seen

it where it happens that other people are in

the Iron Man armor. Yeah, other than Tony and

roadie because until the Iron Man Animated adventures

or Like armored adventures until the armored

adventure series. I do nothing of pepper being

Recycle or whatever that oh, yeah, whatever the

hell her name is Like this I like that they did

this with with putting flash in the suit. Yeah,

and then well the you know, he the the symbiotes

trying to come back to him and Then there's the

where it starts talking now Basically the symbiotes

it looked like he's trying to come back to him

I misread that there then the symbiotes starting

to take over spider -man. It's like use chemicals

to control me and You know, better, stronger,

faster, superior. Otto is basically losing control.

And you see him, he's basically he's trying to

claw his way out. And he basically doesn't. And

then. Oh, look who's back. Yeah, you know, I

did kind of. I didn't get spoiled on where that

was gonna happen, but I got spoiled on the fact

that it like It wasn't really a spoiler, but

the whole thing of oh my god Peter's coming back

and then Parker is back I read I read somewhere

online where it says as early as issue 25. You'll

start to see ghost Peter again Um is like didn't

auto have a parker ectomy Yeah, really? But yeah,

it's so yeah, it's obviously something's gonna

happen where Otto is forced out and You know

Peter takes over again, which but because of

all that Otto's done in the the personal situations

he's gotten involved in it's Peter's life is

more fucked up and it's been an old Parker luck

man the old Parker luck Yeah, but yes. Well,

I will say though that It's a bit of both. It's

a bit of good and bad luck, because sure, his

relationships are screwed all to hell, but he's

a doctor now. He's got his own company. But he's...

Again, I'm not knocking Little Peep or Anna,

and like I said, that was one of the best things

about this comic, is this kind of genuine...

Well, at least you hope it's a genuine relationship

between Otto and Anna. That still just creeps

me out on on at least one level now like I auto

is I get that it's No, no, it's not the level

you think it has nothing to do with her size

whatsoever It has to do with the fact that Otto's

an old -ass man. Well, that's I Remember that

for what you said before but yeah, it's like

it's gonna be interesting But you see it will

be it will be so Peter basically pulls the symbiote

off of or cast the symbiote out of his body and

it goes back to uh goes back to flash and their

agent venom again and he pulls his mask on and

then Peter's like son of a bitch he's got to

go back into hiding and he's like thank you my

friends I've been possessed by the symbiote for

so long you know it's always right with the world

that I just I love the look on everyone's faces

the Avengers they're all like bullshit yeah they're

like I especially Captain America's look is like

I call shenanigans and then we get the the kickoff

of the Goblin War where you know Osborn calls

Kingsley to taunt him and Such like that is like

a little come at me, bro So the war of the goblins

is on and You know cut captain Watanabe is releases

Mary Jane and Mary Jane is still so wigged out

by what she saw and Then at May's is he on the

drugs You know is he on the kind of reminds me

of Kind of reminds me of the winning edge from

Batman Beyond. Yeah, are these your slappers?

Are you on drugs Terry? And I know it's not her

Mary Jane having the being named Mary Jane was

not intended to be a reference to You know Doug's

but Aunt May looks like she's like are you on

the marijuana? Yeah, you know and then she goes

to Peter's place and Basically explains like

because Mary Jane knows Peter's spider -man or

auto the spider -man whatever and he basically

is like look Venom see pulled out of me all good

back to normal. Let's do this and Mary Jane whether

it's she is that stupid or she's just confused

by the entire situation buys it hook line and

sinker you know and whether that's because she

she is that foolish or the fact that ghost Peter

is somewhat reasserted himself and she can pick

up on that somehow or whatever but yeah I love

the he's like I fooled them all and you almost

want to hear that incorrect you know because

they go back to the Avengers tower they're all

catching up with with agent venom and he's like

I got a bounce because In the storyline like

the titles over but his his stomping grounds

is Philadelphia now Yeah, so he goes back and

they're catching up with Iron Man. They're telling

him about the time that the Avengers Knocked

out spider -man and scanned him because they

thought he was a scroll and all that and Iron

Man's like, oh you guys thought you knew what

you're doing. That's cute You know, well, it's

and even like you said like He looks at the reason.

What do you know? They've all been erased and

the security camera feeds. Oh, they're gone,

too Well, except for the only one I know about

and spider -woman is like his privacy a foreign

concept to you He's like no just outdated Yeah,

just outdated. Yeah, and the whole thing is it's

like your time to bring in spider -man and I

I love the way they ended this because this is

like literally that you know same spider time,

same spider channel, like bump bump bump sort

of ending you want on a story like this leading

into the finale of the series. Oh yeah, most

definitely. And before we kind of rate these

things, I gotta say I love the fact that they're

using the modern Iron Man design with all the

little repulsor nodes, but they're using the

coloring from Back in the late 90s they had this

Marvel imprint called MC2 which is like 15 years

in the future and there's like the son of the

juggernaut is a hero and there's all the like

the new heroes and the children of certain Avengers

reformed Avengers next it was basically a it

was not quite 2099 but it was you know is a future

look at the Marvel Universe and there was this

character named mainframe who was like the Iron

Man of the series that had the black and gold

Which I really like that color scheme and I think

that works a lot like don't get me wrong. I love

the red and gold But there's only so many variant

designs you can see of that so like I said, I

like the black and gold just wanted to mention

that quick, but Yeah, overall it's it's been

a really fun ride we are gonna take a Quick break

and we'll come back with final thoughts ratings.

And of course, we're gonna do some solicits for

the upcoming goblin nation. Just to let everybody

know, we will not be recording goblin nation

anytime soon. It's going to be a while. I don't

think. Yeah, because I really want to wait for

the trade this time. Because I'll say this, I

waited to get all four of these issues together

to read them. And I just prefer reading them

in one book instead of having to pick up four

separate books. So Goblin Nation will be read

down the line in trade most likely. So we'll

be back after this. Spiderman, enjoy your fame

Just search Punisher Body Count or come to our

website PunisherBodyCount .com. So we are back

and I'm just gonna rate the storyline overall

I'm not gonna rate the individual issues Overall,

I really liked it. I'll give it a four stars

There's some stuff that I'm just not like monster

for a super villain name that's kind of lame

well menace but yeah again they're both you're

both lame oh i wouldn't say it's necessarily

lame but it's the it needs work yeah uh i'm giving

it four stars really liked it because of that

also because i really enjoyed the art in certain

places but there are a couple of times where

the venom symbiote creeps me out. So there is

that. And again, I have to take one star away

from it because of the way Aunt May is acting

throughout the story. Well, I mean, she's scared

for Peter after what she witnessed in the annual

with the blackout and all that. Like, you can

see where she's coming from. But then there's

the whole thing with her reaction towards Peter

and Anna. It's just kind of like really I thought

you raised Peter better than this or Some really

something to that effect just because it's like

really at me really Yeah, like what the hell

What about you? What are you gonna rate the series

or if you're gonna rate it individually? That's

fine. I know I'm gonna go cuz it's first of all,

it's one of the better storylines They've had

in superior during its run and I'm gonna give

it to you. I'm gonna give it a four almost a

four point five Yeah, I really like the story

like slots writing is top -notch as usual Ramos's

art is Beautiful all the same was it especially

with those at Victor all of Zaba I hope I didn't

butcher that too bad with all the Zabas inks

and The coloring like I really love the art as

I said during our review here and the story like

yeah like they're a little little minor grapes

like that uh the third and 24 how they're it's

like one page peter one page kingsley one page

peter one page kingsley like just some of the

interludes it's not so much that they're there

it's the the timing or the the place placement

of them just kind of irritated me a touch but

other than that i love the fact that you know

it's it's again Why hasn't this happened till

now Agent Venom meeting the superior Spider -Man?

You know, I think they had to build it up. Well,

yeah like because if you and we'll we'll do it

I'll I'll get you and I'll get a couple other

people that have read superior once it ends and

we'll do a pullback after dark and just overall

discussion of the entire series Yeah, if you

look at the series though, they've progressed

through a whole bunch of different villains for

for superior um... alright so solicits we're

going to be talking about issues twenty six through

thirty we would be talking issues twenty six

to thirty one here in the solicits but they're

not they haven't released the thirty one copy

yet so superior spider -man number twenty six

obviously by dan slot uh... pascal fairy and

ryan stegman This was released January 29th,

2014, as this episode will not air until February

5th. Goblin Nation Prelude, the stage is set

for the biggest, superior Spider -Man story of

them all, and it starts here with a Goblin fight

like no other. The Green Goblin versus the original

Hobgoblin. Plus, that thing that happened at

the end of 25, that thing that raised all of

those questions, you don't have to wait any longer.

You'll get your answers this issue. honest. Stop

lying to us, Dan Slott. Well, we'll get art,

just not... Yeah. So, Superior Spider -Man number

27 by Dan Slott and Giuseppe Chemicoli, I think.

That's pronounced, I don't know. Goblin Nation

number one of five. The so -called superior Spider

-Man has failed. Under his watch, the Green Goblin

took control of New York's underworld. This is

all - Otto Octavius' fault. Now it's his responsibility

to take the Goblin down. Win or lose, this shall

be Otto's greatest battle. Whatever you do, don't

miss the first chapter of the biggest event in

the entire Superior Spider -Man saga. The end

starts here, Superior Spider -Man versus the

Goblin Nation. for superior spider -man 28 which

I love the cover for this it's sickly have you

seen this oh yeah the the chessboard and goblins

just looking creepy as all hell well the goblin

looking creepy but it looks like he has four

goblin arms like Otto used to have four mechanical

arms Goblin Nation number two of five, goblins,

spiderlings, supervillains, giant robots, it

can only mean one thing, assault on Spider Island.

If you want to see people standing around talking,

read another comic. Want to see heroes having

a fist fight? Go somewhere else. You are in the

Goblin Nation and this is All Out War. It's the

subdued art of Kamikoli like just with the Goblins

sitting there with the chess pieces and you almost

hear the sinister just You can almost hear Willem

Dafoe's voice right now. Oh Yeah, that would

be awesome. That would be so awesome Superior

spider -man number 29 Dan slot and just said

become a colleague Goblin Nation Part 3 of 5.

The Spider Slayer Squadron were supposed to be

under Mayor JJJ's control, but now they've been

drafted into the Goblin Nation guest starring

Spider -Man 2099. Now, I almost got mad for a

minute because the cover for this one, at least

the one that showed on tfaw .com, before I clicked

on it to enlarge it, I was like, um, wait. Please

do not tell me this is going to end as a Mysterio

story. I really hate Mysterio. Whereas I love

Mysterio. Yeah. Well, I'm from America, you're

from Canada. Potato potato. Uh, Superior Spider

-Man number 30 dance lot, and Giuseppe as well

again. Goblin Nation part four of five. Since

the start of Dying Wish, it has all been building

to this. One of the most important moments of

the entire Superior Spider -Man saga. Once this

happens, it cannot be undone. Do not miss this

issue. As I said before, if we had the solicitor,

if I had any information on issue 31, the final

chapter, I would have... talked about it it's

been a fun ride I still hate to see superior

go so we'll have to see what happens then obviously

it's you know none of these issues have come

out yet so it's way too early to even see it

when the trade is gonna come out yeah and I don't

know I don't I actually did find a link here

for superior 31 did you it's off the Marvel Wikia

site? Okay finale the end of an era Interesting

goblin nation part five of five the end of an

era a tale triumph of triumph and tragedy the

Green Goblin unmasked a hero reborn But what

does this mean for auto Octavius? There's only

one man who can save us from the goblin nation

Peter Parker the one true superior spider -man

um hmm i'm glad he doesn't exactly look like

nightwing anymore i guess but then again nightwing

is no more friggin damned whatever um so there

is that Overall, I'm really looking forward to

Goblin Nation. Like I said before, I'm sad that

the series is ending. I guess I'm interested

to see where it goes from here. But still, it's

just... I don't know. It's just one of those

things, man. It's like kind of depressing. Is

it sad to see it go? Yeah, very much so. But

I mean there's not much you can do about it really

but it's like it's so I mean I'm just a reader

of the thing But still it's like, you know We

have two different universes for Marvel we have

six one six and we have Ultimates why can't we

have two different spidey books if especially

again crossing over to the other comic company

if DC has ten different Batman books, I don't

see why superior book couldn't work out but whatever

what are you gonna do yeah really all right how

can the people get in touch with you sir I can

find me on the Twitter at JT from Saskatoon all

right you can also find us at geek cast radio
