About this Episode

Steve and Mike dive deep into the Bat Books #24 issues, including Detective Comics, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Batman. They discuss Detective's Wraith story, Batgirl's "Wanted" arc conclusion, Nightwing's Chicago finale, and Batman's Zero Year continuation—which marks a turning point that redeems the entire storyline for both hosts. They also cover Beware the Batman #1 and Batman Beyond Universe #3, plus preview the upcoming #25 issues.

It's Batman! I'm Batman, dammit! Welcome to The

Pole Bag. Join us as we dig out our latest comics

and discuss them with the rotating panel of the

GCRN crew. Sit back and enjoy this week's whole

bag My brains not a nice place to be hello and

welcome to the pole bag this is episode 40 I

am your host TF2 and Mike and joining me is Steve

Megatron. Hello. Hello. How are you good? Good

good now that um Villains month is over. Thank

God What month? Yeah, September We are here to

talk about the bat books number 24 issues Steve

has detective. I have Batgirl Nightwing. We both

have Batman and in the outro I will be talking

about Batman universe and you'll be talking about

but where the Batman? Also in the closing the

show. We'll be talking about I'll be reading

through the next month's solicits for The number

25 issues so previous for those So far for it

being all your fault last October getting me

into these things I I'm really loving them. I

mean, you know and like I said I think I've said

it before I could be wrong, but You know I offer

a fresh perspective to people. I am that new

reader. I don't have to worry about 70 years

of continuity, or 70 years of stories, or 70

years of, oh, that's not, this isn't my Batman.

There's a... quote -unquote my batman for everybody

i mean you know just like i'm kind of sick of

everybody saying oh we're gonna do barry allen

stories for flash well where's the love for wally

west wally west is my flash you know whether

it's michael keaton whether it's val kilmer whether

it's kevin conroy whether it's uh... first greenwood

whomever everyone in adam west you know everyone

has their own iteration of batman christian bale

that they They like and adore and the same thing

goes for the other characters as well. I mean

I have absolutely like I know there's a episode

of one of my podcasts to listen to Earth 2 .net

the show Michael David Sims just put out a review

of the Devon Grayson Nightwing run I guess and

I do want to listen to that to to see what it's

all about but Like Dick Grayson for me will always

be Nightwing, you know But yeah, what's going

on with you? I've been doing some hidden behind

the scenes kind of stuff for Geekcast Radio Year

5. Of course recording AGU for those that don't

know is Altered Geek Unlimited, which is kind

of a random geek podcast. Yes, yes it is. also

been doing the top 100 animated films countdown

oh yeah we are kicking that off the same day

this goes up November 1st 2013 with episode 52

Off top of my head, news stories that I've seen

around dealing with the comics is that supposedly

in Justice League 25 Owl Man is in spoilers.

Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers, spoilers, spoilers.

Joker would have said it at the beginning of

the podcast for spoilers, but Dan DiDio has always

had this heart on for killing off Dick Grayson.

And apparently, Justice League number 25, something

is going to happen where that might happen. Owlman

might kill him, we don't know. All I know so

far is they've revealed his identity. They did

it in Forever Evil, I believe, in issue 1 and

through issue 2. I am reading the Forever Evil

7 issue miniseries. I was going to read the Arkham

War series, but I just... Don't have with with

moving to a new apartment and and dealing with

everything else I have to deal with I don't have

the time and I didn't really read the the villains

issues that would tie into Arkham war so But

eventually here in the pullback we will be JT

and I will be covering the seven -issue forever

evil saga So yeah, I'm I'm still not thrilled

that they're going to kill Nightwing I just I

don't think they're actually gonna kill Nightwing

but that's just me personally well I mean like

if they're not that's great but still it's like

if they're not they are really really pulling

a Harvey you know we believe in Harvey Dent to

the extreme here I mean cuz it's just It's just

too weird man. It really is it if they are not

gonna do it Why would they let the public believe

that they are for this long? It just I guess

to ramp up whatever story is gonna be in Justice

League 25. So when we do The 25 issues next month

in December, which will actually be episode 50

of the podcast I will be talking about either

here in the intro or Maybe in the outro or closing

the show. I don't know I will be talking about

Justice League 25 because that's where the owlman

nightwing battle takes place So without any further

ado, we're gonna get into the reviews All right,

you picked up detective number 24 what's going

on in detective Steve well in detective 24 it

starts off on the cover you have Batman and race

Which are two Sides of the same coin essentially

mm -hmm two rich playboys who had their parents

killed and One went evil one went good and one's

got certain set of technology and the other one

has one set so You end up finding out that Wraith

is Caldwell It was another rich playboy and you

know multi -million dollar guy Which his equipment

is more lethal But also has its flaws You'd see

a different iteration to the Batwing which Batman

references is like his third one. He's gone through

recently The Wraith ends up chasing down Batman

through the city and like this dreadnought of

a Skyship shooting the hell out of the Batmobile

and at the same time he's electrocuting all of

the police because every bit of gear that the

police are wearing is set to fry them to death.

Oh boy. Other than like Gordon and Bullock who

people who didn't put it on. People who are smart.

Yeah. But anyways Batman's flying through while

this guy's shooting him and he's saying you know

this hardware is impressive and Saying that Caldwell

saved the best of the military equipment for

himself He says but what he has an offensive

capability I make up for in maneuverability But

he's also got four minutes at this point to actually

save all the police officers Which isn't a lot

of time so he actually sets his bat plane self

-destruct Blows it up. It makes it look like

he died and it because it blows up part of Wraiths

vehicle Mm -hmm. Oh And Batman says it's the

second bat plane. He's had to sacrifice in many

months I guess the last one he destroyed was

in detective 21 But he also was testing out like

this glider that's inside of it which is kind

of cool it's see -through and then as soon as

that happens Batman gets to Wraith's cave and

everything and shuts off the the power to everything

and it's funny because Alfred's there and they're

looking up information on the computer and Alfred's

like Just a moment, sir. I'll call up the pertinent

information on the wrath computer. Like the bat

computer. And then it shows that Caldwell's parents

were shot by a cop and it was kind of a crooked

thing. His dad was shot and killed, so he's thinking

everyone's crooked and everything. So he figures

out the connection that it has to do with a particular

building. the original police department location

or this particular location and Batman gets Gordon

to evacuate it So that he can essentially Bumble

the shit out of Wraith for when he shows up and

Wraith comes in with this giant tank and just

blows away the building Thinking he's going to

kill all the police in him, but Gordon's already

evacuated Batman's got this like kick -ass armor

like it's Hardcore armor and He just beats the

hell out of rate wrath But then you know knowing

full well Gordon wouldn't stay behind They pop

a warning shot and hit wrath right in his armor

knowing that it wouldn't kill him But it like

severely trashes his armor And then you get a

couple police that are basically saying, you

know, thank you Batman for saving us blah blah

blah I've always treated you like crap and you

know so on And then he makes some comment about

bats not being a bad thing and then you see a

bunch of bats go by through the alley and like

essentially eat somebody Mm -hmm, which I'm guessing

has to do with the man bat thing that keeps popping

up, which is a drawing but they lock away Caldwell

in prison and Gordon essentially solves the case

and call while sitting in prison acting kind

of like an ass and like he always does and then

Emperor Penguin the guy that turned himself blue

and you know like venomous and earlier issues

is in the jail cell directly across from him

oh boy and then there's a zero -year tie -in

in the next up issue which they're going to talk

about the GCPD Yeah, but yeah that pretty much

rounds out the issue, but I'd have to say it's

pretty Pretty kick -ass considering what you

end up getting in it Unlike some things that

have happened some other comics over the time

Well, there's If I was reading detective like

from when it first started when the new 52 launched

Don't know I'm I'm one of those people that I

really love covers like really good covers, and

I love how it's how They eventually place the

title of the book on the covers and I looked

up detective 24 online to see the Cover with

because on DC's website. They just have the regular

cover. They don't have the they just said the

plain cover No, no words no no credits, so nothing

no link to the credits. I'm like the word detective

comics is over the batwing how oh god just the

batwing looks so cool on the cover is is is my

point here um and i can't believe that they covered

that up but uh but yeah um it looks it sounds

like it's a damn interesting story and i i will

say and i'll bring this up when we uh when we

reveal the uh The solicits for the 25 issues

in the closing of this show that I am so picking

up detective 25 I have to I mean it just simply

for the fact of the cover. I really have to It's

kind of awesome. It's that cover is really cool

Yeah It really is All right, so now that we're

in the middle of the recording of the show I

forgot to send you Batgirl and Nightwing but

uh oh well so Steve has not read these first

up I'm going to talk about Batgirl number 24

Batgirl wanted part two now this cover Alex Gardner

is our Gardner not Gardner Gardner is the one

doing the covers for this and this cover is Amazing

it really really is whether the titles on it

or not because the title in this cover actually

It works around the image and it's basically

a red background with Gordon standing over Barbara

and she's holding her boyfriend who supposedly

is dead and on the ground it has a bloody bat

symbol and I don't mean bloody as in the British

oh that bloody bat symbol no it it's a bat symbol

in red looks like it's blood I know a lot of

people I think on Facebook I think on the DC

Comics fans Facebook page said oh hey look it's

Walter White making a reference to Bryan Cranston

being Walter White in Breaking Bad and the fact

that Bryan Cranston also voiced Commissioner

Gordon in the year one direct to DVD film but

no I love this cover it's Alex Garner does an

amazing job on covers for Batgirl. Absolutely

amazing. The issue itself basically picks up

with where she's done being Batgirl. She's dressed

up in a black ninja outfit. It picks up for 23

left off where Ricky has been shot. and the art

by Fernando Pastern is just absolutely amazing.

Jonathan, I think it's Glapion, I could be wrong

if I'm saying that incorrectly, but I think he's

the one doing the coloring. It's just so great

because we have this ninja woman against the

GCPD, which we know as the reader, we know it's

Barbara, but they don't know that obviously.

As the story progresses you see Barbara and this

other cop who they McKenna who they thought was

dead She actually sides with that girl and says

hey look, you know go do what you got to do,

but get it done quick She almost she that girl

there's one panel where she is almost going to

hit her father Yeah yeah uh... and then the rest

of the issue is pretty much uh... is is inner

turmoil with her where uh... part of the preview

that was released for this issue was she just

wants to sleep uh... and that's pretty much what

she does is she falls asleep at her apartment

and gordon's trying to get a hold of her and

she finally after a long time finally goes goes

ahead and is gonna go meet with him and and Nightfall

the villain from earlier issues is kind of back

and they're bringing in all the old villains

from previous issues like mirror mirror was One

of the very first villains and I think issue

one or two or three, you know that that very

first arc back in the first part of the run and

He goes after Gordon It's it's very very compelling

because the the last issue and the last page

of the issue it just She's got to go save her

dad pretty much and that last page I you know

I hope Gail Simone listens to this I'm gonna

point her to this podcast when it's up but Gail

Simone is one of the best comic writers I've

ever read especially with this character because

her whole point the entire issue this issue and

last issue that this so far two out of three

parter for bad girl wanted she's hanging it up

she doesn't want to be bad girl anymore and the

very final page because she has to go save her

father okay Batgirl it is one last time he may

not be my favorite person right now uh nightfall

but you should have you should have not you should

not have screwed with my father and you just

see all the equipment and everything else and

her you know kneeling over it and it says at

the bottom next issue Batgirl in zero year Couple

of things before we move on here I was really

skeptical about what's gonna come next month

with zero years tie -ins because I knew that

Gail Simone was not going to write it that someone

else is gonna be writing it and I'll talk about

who that is in the in the closing of the show

but after reading an interview with this person

I am fully on board because she actually wants

to the writer wants to, you know, make sure she

stays within Gale's scope and Gale's story and

not just write a zero -year tie -in to write

a... She doesn't want to write a zero -year tie

-in just for the hell of it. So... That's good.

Yep. Next, we travel outside of Gotham to Chicago

for Nightwing 24, a city aflame, a hero lone.

title of the story is buyer's remorse and we

again it's one of those things where you pick

off where the last issue left up pick up from

the last issue left off title of the actual story

is buyer's remorse I gotta say Will Conrad on

art in this book is doing an amazing job simply

amazing First panel is Nightwing and Tony Zuko

on the bat cycle or abat cycle or whatever you

want to call it. This is the conclusion to the

Chicago storyline for now. Because as we've said,

next month is the zero -year tie -ins. But we

basically find out that all this stuff that's

been happening in Chicago with the mayor and

Tony Zuko and all this and all that, and we find

out who the prankster is. the prankster turns

out to be the son of one of the people that the

mayor screwed over and this has all been kind

of a revenge plot there was an earlier issue

where supposedly the mayor stole all this money

from the city and all the people in Chicago that

never actually happened it was just propaganda

from the prankster Do really love how Zuko and

Nightwing did have to work together Again the

art simply amazing Kyle, you know the writing

Kyle Higgins just he can do no wrong when it

comes to this character I mean, there's only

so many times I can say the same thing. I've

said over and over and over again. You can really

tell First of all he set this story in his hometown

of Chicago second of all he is such a love for

the character of Dick Grayson and Nightwing and

all that and just bringing his stories bringing

air back to superhero comics that I haven't seen

in a long time Even though I've only been full

-time, you know, it's just normally other stories

have really like excited me as much as Batgirl

and Nightwing and I know I keep going on and

on and on and on about them but they just haven't

except for these two titles and so everything

you know kind of ties up nice and neat into a

little bow and then there's something at the

end about instead of being Billy Lester Tony

Zuko is Tony Zuko and We'll find out what happens

after zero year with the next Nightwing arc because

Next time around it's gonna be a Nightwing in

zero year But it was a very very awesome story

absolutely love it nice Yep, and finally up today

is the most expensive book of the month Batman

number 24 and the cover is not a lie Steve unlike

issue 23 that that gauntlet was so a lie That

was blasphemous. I know But the zero -year tie

-in was a double issue, which means no backup

story 699 US price For the regular cover not

the combo pack or anything else because I'm sure

the combo pack was was more expensive, but Scott

Snyder, Greg Capolo doing an amazing job. Bruce

gets a new haircut. Part of the first panel.

And we open up to the story of the Red Hood gang

and how Batman is pretty much, or how something

at least, is... screwing with their plans. I

just, I absolutely love Cap Lozart. It's simply

amazing. And the one panel you see this, welcome

to country. And it doesn't say, it doesn't, it's

supposed to say some, I forget what it says underneath

what's on there, but Yeah, this art so amazing

and You know you and I both last month with issue

23 we were like done We were gonna go ahead and

get 24 and if 24 didn't really lift our spirits

we were gonna be done with zero year and Man,

I gotta hang on for the rest of the ride because

24 pretty much redeemed the entire arc at this

point yeah it was interesting seeing the the

the early bat suit even though it was very similar

to the other one than the modern one um yeah

but you get to see the bat gloves and then the

which which is actually kind of funny yeah you

see the ace chemical plant and it's yeah it's

it's totally different thing but beast i mean

it's just it's weird yeah it really really is

in that and that first page after you see the

sign one of the redhead gang is like guys hey

you i saw your conroy's voice in my head my bat

still needs a head oh my god because i didn't

notice like when i first saw the previews come

out for this one didn't notice what the Sun like

I didn't know what this thing on the sign was

supposed to be and Just absolutely awesome. This

is zero -year Dark City part one Capelo and Snyder

the writer and penciler Danny Mickey is the anchor

The cover the very there was a variant cover

done by Gilliam March and the regular cover was

done by cap alone Placenia could be wrong, but

no the art in this is Capelo is an amazing artist

he is And the story is just written so well,

oh yeah It it just is I mean, you know you get

so many cool things with so many cool different

nods to Batman of past like like that first shot

with you know the dark it's basically the the

BTIS logo kind of face shot with the with the

white eyes and the all black and it's just simply

awesome it really is oh yeah The story progresses

to the point where we find out more about the

Red Hood Gang, we find out more about Bruce and

his new haircut. I hate to say this, and I know

it's gonna break a lot of people's wallets if

they did do this, but every issue, at least for

the rest of Zero Year, needs to be a double issue

with no backup. Not that I dislike the backups

for Zero Year so far, but it's just... It felt

like the story went on forever, didn't it? In

a good way, though. I kind of agree with you.

It just, I don't know. I mean, it was just fabulous.

You've got Bruce with with Uncle Philip and dealing

with all that. You got the revelations from the

Red Hood gang. Red Hood won the leader of the

Red Hood gang That was awesome. The fact that

Snyder is actually working Martha Wayne into

the story You know and kind of Telling this whole

backstory thing was simply amazing What'd you

think of the page where he it's kind of a take

on On his his sign with the with the Red Hood

gang But it's the page where the the helicopter

is flying over and half the city is blacked out

and it's blacked out in the shape of a bat I

thought that was freaking awesome. Oh, yeah,

I definitely enjoyed that that part of it But

I mean, it's just so awesome the writing the

writing reads so well the transitions from scene

to scene and are so well done between Snyder

and and cap alone the rest of the art team and

Just absolutely awesome and we really do see

see I I think this suit is Even though it's the

kind of the first suit for here, but if there's

a there's a page where he's Where he's infiltrated

the Red Hood gang and there's a close -up where

he says back to work then It's a combination

of various bad suits, but obviously it's gray

with a black bad envelope That's new adventures.

The mask is more so I would say the the the cowl

for Batman in that picture It is more so like

a cross between New Adventures and Justice League

a little bit. It's just how slimming it is. I

just love how Capolo and company are drawing

this and illustrating it because it pays homage

to some of the best things in Batman mythos,

in animation and all that without having to draw.

hockey pads. Yeah. Absolutely awesome. What are

some of your thoughts on the story and the art?

I really, well, for one, I really love the art.

I mean, Greg Capolo does a superb job. I can't

argue with that. And Scott Snyder, I have to

say, I really like the story. It just seemed

like it took forever to get there. But I like

what he intertwined into this particular issue.

There was a lot of twists and turns and origins

and arrivals of certain people. Departures of

some, arrivals of others, or hints at arrivals

of others. Or, you know, what comes first, the

chicken or the egg kind of thing. If you catch

my drift. What comes first, the red hood or the

acid? But yeah, I mean it was It was very shocking

to watch overall just because you didn't actually

know what was going to happen Yeah So the Red

Hood part of the story ends and now we have the

Riddler Because the Riddler has turned out the

lights in Gotham City Just simply ugly. Who'd

ever think that the Riddler could have been this

maniacal, crazy, cool villain again? I mean outside

of the John Glover voice acting in in BTIS, but

I mean just the way that Snyder built him up

in this issue was just awesome. Well he made

a menacing again. Yeah, he kind of was a loser

by the end of I Mean to put it mildly by the

end of the pre new 52 Yeah, and he was kind of

a I don't know kind of useless so far in the

new 52. So Yeah, he was kind of behind the scenes

and kind of planning and plotting and not really

Doing anything like that whole thing in the first

three issues with Philip Like nothing really

came of that and not really But but yeah, I mean

after this issue I'm like bring on 25 already.

Let's let's see what happens with more of Dark

City So All right. Well, we're gonna take a quick

break and we'll come back with final thoughts

ratings the previews for next issues and all

that good other good stuff after this It's action.

It's drama. It's comedy. It's Decian, the superhero

webcomic. Decian has superhero antics and sexy

No, you need to fucking pay attention to the

fucking movie. You want kick -ass guest interviews?

How about Mike Barron and Tom Jane? No, I like

a little bit of grit in my cigars. You want carefully

considered in -depth analysis? I mean, yeah,

just one best picture at the Oscars yesterday.

I mean, it's no Terminator. Good luck with that.

Punish your body count. Twice a month on Geekcast

Radio. All right, we're gonna close it out before

we talk about the other books we're reading.

rankings for the books we covered in the episode.

For me, Bat 24, Batgirl, and Nightwing, they

all get perfect. There wasn't anything in any

of those issues that I was like, what the? No,

don't do that. There was nothing that made me

enraged to read these books whatsoever. They

were all very, very solid, and I can't give them

anything lower than a perfect. Well for me I

Really really really enjoyed Batman 24 which

is more than what I thought I would And then

the things that happened in it were kind of like

mind -blown Yeah Same thing with detective 24

Very happy with how that turned out as well I

like that it's also in the future time not that

I don't like zero years edition of this latest

issue, but Yeah, I just I prefer it to stay current

not keep jumping back to the past. So that's

my only gripe with it But I would give both those

perfect Very cool, very cool Alright, so you

picked up Beware the Batman number one, right?

Yes. How is it? Actually, not too bad. I picked

it up because, one, I was a fan of the original

Batman DCAU animated series comics back in the

day that used to air on Fox. So I used to collect

those comics. So I thought, what the heck, I'll

try it. I'll try this out. So I got the issue

and it's got in the background, a picture of

anarchy with a bunch of bats and Batman in the

center with Alfred and Katana on the lower corners.

And of course, this is as seen on Cartoon Network,

which that's no longer the case. At least this

year. But the animation and style is preserved

almost exactly in this comic So it does not feel

out of place at all reading the comic and then

jumping back to the TV show despite the fact

the TV shows 3d this is I I'm almost mind blown

as far as how exact they got all the designs

Yeah And you get to see you know the monstrous

bat computer which dwarfs any previous bat computer

for the most part You can see Batman actually

doing his detective stuff you get to see you

know a lot of explosions a lot of You get to

see the Batmobile Get to see anarchy in it Again

pretty cool plot that goes through You can see

Simon stag who's kind of an asshat Yeah in almost

everything he's ever done yeah, yeah, so You

can see the bat suit which is pretty cool like

in him putting it on and But they they pretty

much it leads you to believe like it could be

an episode of the show Yeah, it very easily could

have been an episode. It's not like they they

shorted it or anything like that And then pretty

much by the end of it, because the gist of the

story is that Anarchy is undercover working for

Simon Stagg and allows... He gets Stagg to essentially

put these security systems in everybody's houses

because of a movement that he kind of fueled.

So essentially the the doors will unlock Allowing

people to get in where they're supposed to do

the opposite And they're also triggered to blow

up Which is kind of part of anarchy's thing of

setting explosives yes, so that itself is kind

of interesting and then by the end of it Batman's

overridden the entire thing and Anarchy is posting

a video over the screen which it starts people

of Gotham and then Batman changes the message

and it's a picture of the bat symbol and it says

this is Batman and Then he basically tells people

to you know Cool it, you know stay at home Stay

calm and he says and And to those of you who

won't Who think this is the opportunity you've

been waiting for just remember. I'll be watching

Yeah as he takes down Anarchy and then escapes

the explosion on top of the building And yeah,

so I mean it's it's pretty cool and then in the

The end of course they they have like the DC

nation character profiles, and then they have

shriek oh cool I wish I thought it was kind of

cool. What is that fake news thing? DC -52. Yeah,

that's not here. That's only in the new 52 titles.

That's not in. That isn't in Beware the Batman

or... Don't think it's in this either, but you

know they just they have a lot of the DC nation

commercial things in the end yeah and for all

the various shows that are associated with that

and then of course they have the an Ad at the

very end for beware the Batman Batman 66 little

Gotham and then Scooby -Doo and Looney Tunes

But that's pretty much it. I was like oh, that's

you know and I overall I Wasn't upset that I

got it. I mean it was a lot more interesting

than what I thought it was going to be, so I

was not second -guessing why I bought it. Very

cool, very cool. What would you rank it? I think

I'd give it like a 4 .5 out of 5. Just, I mean,

overall good. I mean, it's... It left me wanting

more, or I would have liked to have seen another

villain. Show his face since he did show his

face in the show, but yeah, I can live with this

Yeah, I don't know when that's gonna happen,

but that's gonna be interesting to see who they

get and how they design that villain Well, they've

already shown what he looks like on the cartoon

What episode was that? 10 Oh jeez, I'll have

to go back and check it out again It was the

very end Okay, I'll have to I'll yeah, I don't

remember all to go back and check it out. So

As most people know I joined comics ology just

for one title Because I am so I am so anal retentive

when it comes to I need to know what's going

on now and You know We haven't gotten to the

point where Steve and I can review the 10 ,000

clowns trade paperback, which is Adam Beechin's

first run on Batman Beyond. And I also found

out, Steve, that Batman Beyond, Bad Girl Beyond,

which is the second trade that collects the rest

of Adam's run, doesn't come out until March of

2014, sadly. but yeah batman beyond universe

uh... kyle higgins took over for the writing

on batman beyond and he is continually kicking

ass every issue and like i said i get this digitally

so i see it first on digital and it looks amazing

there and it looks even more amazing in print

uh... one last we left our quote -unquote heroes

it was Batman, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Robin

against Terry McGinnis Batman and boy was that

a friggin' shocker. Turns out to be Spellbinder,

Shriek, Ink, and some guy who refuses to tell

Batman his name. We eventually find out that

he is called Rewire Something happens with with

the with Dick Grayson the So the villains gang

fights Batman and basically kicks Batman's ass

I mean, there's no if ands buts about it. They

pretty much kick his ass and then he comes back

because the the print issue contains Two digital

issues and And it's it's damn awesome because

you don't know what happened to Dick Grayson

You don't know what's gonna happen to Batman

ghoul shows up of all people ghoul shows up The

art in this by Tony Silas is is just amazing

So Dick comes in tries to save the day His boat

blows up or somehow blows up he gets Terry supposedly

Is gonna save Terry the boat blows up and We

just see him in the middle of nowhere Floating

in the water and Terry's gone And we find out

this guy is named rewire and apparently rewire

needs to recharge So the villains take him back

to wherever their hideout is and we've got this

other storyline going on where the mayor, Commissioner

Barbara Gordon is trying to find out what's going

on with the mayor's finances and all this and

all that and she's interrogating or talking with

the city controller and he reveals that the money

wasn't for the mayor, it was for his son. And

we see that The Sun is is rewire The other thing

that happens in this that really shocked me is

how Bruce comes back into play because after

the explosion That got that caught dick in the

in the traps of it Terry floated downriver and

we see him floating and floating and floating

and he washes up Like outside some Batcave entrance,

and you see old Bruce standing there with his

game And it's like oh, what's gonna happen? I

guess God I cannot wait until the first Saturday

in November when when the next chapter comes

out cuz I mean, this storyline is just killer.

Twist after twist, shock after shock. Higgins

and Silas are doing an amazing job on the Batman

stuff. Now I do also know that Justice Lee Beyond

is collected in this. I'm not reading it. It's

not that I dislike it. I really like Christos

Gage as a writer, but... I just, I don't have

any interest in Justice League Beyond, so. But

overall, the Batman Beyond story is absolutely

amazing. What did you think of this one? Um,

I really enjoyed it for a lot of the same reasons.

I mean, it's just... I like the fact that Bruce

is coming back into play, and then I like the

fact that Dick Grayson actually essentially saved

everybody by the end of it. Yeah, that was pretty

awesome. Um, for me, I... Gotta go with the perfect

again on this because the writing is so well

done. The art is so well done I think I told

this story already in a previous bad episode

when Terry smiles Tony Silas has shown him smiling

with With teeth like kind of like in the cartoon

was done. So Yeah So, you know, that's that's

pretty awesome Uh, yeah, I gotta give Batman

Beyond Universe number 3 a perfect 5 out of 5

stars on the G -Seren rating scale. Alright,

now we're gonna get to the solicits for the number

25 issues. Detective Comics 25 is something I

will so be picking up, even though I'm not reading

the title overall, but that image of Gordon with

Batman in the background and all the bats around

it... Detective comics number 25 a Batman zero

-year tie -in Of course James Gordon confronts

the corrupt elements in the GCPD and the vigilante

known as Batman dun dun dun John layman writer

art by Jason Fae book covers also done by Jason

Fae book Comes out November 6 2013 And this is

something that I've been kind of craving ever

since I saw the year one film, something that

is Gordon centric. I mean, sure, we've got Barbara

in Batgirl and we've got her fight against her

father and all that. But like, I really think

that. It's kind of a disservice to not have some

sort of story dealing with Gordon. I know we

had Gotham Central, which eventually will be

covered on the pull bag next summer, I believe.

But yeah, I mean, Detective Number 25, I can't

wait. Looks so good. Batgirl 25 also a zero -year

tie -in Barbara Gordon is forced to protect her

brother and her homestead in the anticipation

of the upcoming storm But it's here that she

learns the true meaning of quote -unquote home

and quote -unquote hero This is written by Marguerite

Bennett. This is what I was talking about in

the opening of the show I read an interview with

her I believe it was with I think it was on the

Mary Sue I'm not gonna go back and try to look

for it but I read the interview she basically

said that she went out and sought out Gail's

work Gail Simone's writing the previous 24 issues

etc etc etc to make sure that her zero -year

story was something that would be young Barbara

and what Barbara is now. So I'm fully fine with

her doing it. I still wish it was Gale writing

the story, but it sounds like it's gonna be a

damn cool, cool thing. Alright we also have Nightwing

at number 25 a zero -year tie -in Batgirl and

Nightwing and also the Batman which I'll read

in a minute they all come out November 13th 2013

Nightwing 25 a Batman zero -year tie -in Dick

Grayson frantically tries to find Haley's circus

and his parents as Gotham City is plunged into

total darkness Now this is supposed to happen

before the Grayson's die. I cannot wait to read

this. This is one of those things where, like

I've said in the past, why do I care about Ma

- why - why do we have to care about Martha Wayne?

Other than the fact that she was Bruce's mom,

and other than the fact that she got shot. Like,

I never knew anything about her. You know, and

that whole thing that they - that the Red Hood

won - character talked about in batman twenty

four about who she was in her character and everything

else you know that made me want to care same

thing goes here it's like you know sure Tony

Zuko killed Dick's parents but you know other

than that fact none of the fact that that is

going to reflect on Dick why should we care about

them and I'm so glad that Kyle is going back

and telling this story and seeing how his parents

are before they died. That's gonna be so cool.

That's gonna be an amazing read. Also, I will

be probably covering in the closing of the show,

just like we did with Batman Beyond the Universe,

Justice League number 25. Forever Evil continues

as the crime syndicate hunts down the few heroes

left foolish enough to challenge them, including

Batman's protege Dick Grayson, but Owlman has

other plans for Nightwing and Owlman's teammate,

the most deadly being on the planet, Ultraman.

Supposedly, again, spoilers, but supposedly,

this is where Nightwing dies. I just don't know.

I doubt it. Just don't know. DC, you're killing

me here. Alright, so the final solicit here is

Batman 25. Zero Year reaches a new level as the

Riddler sends Gotham City into total darkness.

Dark City begins in this issue that features

an embossed cover, and the Zero Year blackout

spreads into other titles this month, affecting

heroes across the DC universe. I can't wait to

see what these 25 issues have in store. I really

can't because... It's gonna be just amazing it

really really is I mean the 24 sure, you know

Batman and Batman girl and I think I was gonna

read anyway but the 24 issue for Batman really

turned me around on that title it really really

did because Like you I was ready to give up on

the main Batman title So that's gonna do it for
