About this Episode

TFG1Mike and JT from Saskatoon dig into Superior Spider-Man #12-15, discussing Otto Octavius's growing comfort as Spider-Man, the intense conflict at the Raft prison, and the escalating Goblin conspiracy. They explore the moral questions around Otto's willingness to kill, the dynamic between Jonah and Spider-Man, and how the series is building toward major plot threads with the Green Goblin and Otto's relationship with Anna Maria.

Welcome to The Pull Bag. Join us as we dig out

our latest comics and discuss them with the rotating

panel of the GCRN crew. So sit back and enjoy

this week's Pull Bag. Hello and welcome to the

pull bag this is episode 34 and of course joining

me is JT from Saskatoon. Hello. I'm back That's

just too damn scary. I am of course TF2 and Mike

and We are back before we get into villains month

people might know over at DC and people might

know here in the pull bag originally episodes

34 and 35 we're gonna be villains month and I

was like Nah, let's Switch it around so episodes

35 and 36 are gonna be villains month and in

here. We're gonna be talking about the superior

spider -man numbers 12 through 15 Now last time

we did one of these episodes oh so long ago,

and I got no I don't even know what number it

was it's been a while I Gotta look at the schedule

cuz I don't remember what night and see that's

the problem folks It's not that I'm not interested

in like I enjoyed reading these issues and we'll

get in in depth with them once we Once we do

so Let's see. What was it 8 to 11 was episode

17. This is episode 34. Holy crap That's almost

20 episodes or so. Damn Since we've done one

of these. And it's just the way that Marvel released...

If this was a monthly book... It'd be a lot easier.

I wouldn't have a problem... If this... If Superior

Spider -Man was once a month instead of twice

a month, I wouldn't have a problem waiting for

months and covering for issues. But because it's

twice a month, it's like, holy crap. And I just...

Last time we did this, I said maybe we should

wait... read them all at once and then cover

them and be done or i said maybe we should just

record segments and cover them as they come out

and then edit it all together and that would

just be one cobbled up mess of a freaking podcast

i wasn't going to do that well yeah because i

mean sorry you go mike if you record segments

And then when you get like if we got a week before

the episode had to be released and recorded the

intro and the outro It would be all out of whack

all out of date all artists. I'm not doing that

crap. I'm just not Well, I know and just to speak

about the publishing thing with Marvel like spider

-man was the first one that they started doing

Twice a month with when they did the you know,

the quasi reboot post deal with the devil. That

is one more day and they've really taken up this

whole twice a month with a lot of titles like

i read the invincible iron man and when they

did the marvel now series when they rebooted

every well at least rebooted the numbering you

know it was like literally like red iron man

3 one week and then literally a week later iron

man 4 came out and and for doing something like

this it does make it a little more difficult

you know scheduling wise and getting everybody

together and you know I mean it's just you and

I on on these episodes and that's kind of what

I've done with the pull bag is I found One or

two other people besides myself like the bad

stuff. That's just Steve and I Turtles stuff

that's gonna be myself and somebody else, you

know, I'm not looking for a huge crew of podcasters

I'm looking for more and this is gonna sound

really wrong But more of an intimate setting

to the point where two people can discuss a comic

that they read bang, bam, boom, that's that.

I'm not looking for this show to be all informational

and us to know absolutely everything about everything.

It's us sitting down, looking at the comic we've

read, and giving our opinion. It's not about

passing on information, you know, and that's

one of the things with me is because I'm a new

comic reader, I don't have 70 years of baggage

and hatred for comics. Because, you know, you

get And that's great. If people like the old

stuff, that's fine. I like some of the old stuff

myself. But I was never into it. You know, I

was never into it at the time. So it was like

one of those things where... Okay, this is a

fresh thing. I don't need to know what happened

specifically to Superior Spider -Man. This is

extremely fresh. I don't need to know what happened

to Peter Parker and issue number 311 and issue

number 677 and you know, I don't need to know

any of that crap because... Dr. Octopus is spider

-man yeah I mean the only thing I needed to know

to get set up into this series is what happened

in 698 699 and 700 that was it you know and I'm

here to do you know a fun podcast if people like

it they like it and that's great you know I know

there are a lot of people out there that do like

it and I appreciate all the listeners that do

enjoy the show generally I wait for Steve to

do iTunes reviews but there is an iTunes review

for pullback I'll have to show it to you since

you're Canadian and you can't see the US side

but basically the guy said ug, one star review

these guys are unknowledgeable and very bland

they don't know what the heck they're talking

about or something like that and I'm like oh

okay Well, you know clearly didn't listen to

the Marvel then in Marvel now episode because

you know, I don't I don't know I mean, I'm just

to the point now with Marvel. Huh. This is so

funny. I I Would rather do trades for Marvel

You know, we're gonna be doing coming up here

in a couple months with with Punisher month all

the Punisher stuff is trade style, you know,

so Coming up next year, I've got several things

planned for covering Marvel stuff. Hopefully

people will enjoy it. But it's all gonna be trade

stuff. As far as Marvel monthly or Marvel ongoing,

like how we do DC, like the Bat books ongoing.

I can't. I just can't. It would be different

if I was reading Superior Spider -Man. Whatever

the new Iron Man is whatever the new x -men are

whatever the new event. It would be different

if I was reading multiple books from Marvel Yeah,

where you and I could just do where you and I

and a couple of people I don't know Art Danner

or Booth Ninja or whoever could do you know a

once -a -month Marvel issue? Yeah a Marvel episode

of but but that's not it because I'm so I'm so

engrossed in DC, and I'm I'm sorry to the listeners

that Aren't reading DC. I do hope people still

listen to the show But the show pretty much is

DC and IDW heavy and it probably will be that

way and like I said, I'm making room I am I am

working some Marvel stuff in I mean, we're gonna

have eight episodes of Punisher stuff in November.

So well, yeah You know, I'm working around to

it where, you know, I'm talking with some of

the other staffers of the GCRN where we would

do segmented episodes where I would do an intro

and an outro and then they would have their own

segment as the episode. So we're working on that.

But as far as Superior Spider -Man goes, I don't

have... I'm excited for the stories, but I don't

have that sheer excitement once a month saying,

oh my God. it's the new batman zero year chapter

it's the new transformers more than meets the

you know i i just don't have that excitement

for superior spider -man well that's yeah i mean

not specifically spider -man but i mean i can

understand you wanting to go trades on that this

there's a lot of comic series that are out now

that i like them a lot but i wait for the trades

and i mean stuff like witch blade uh there's

this new series of the ghosts or five ghosts

of fabian gray which is a great kind of pulp

style comic book and stuff like that so i mean

i can certainly understand wanting to wait for

trades to do the show and i got no problem with

that because you know no i know it's all good

i mean some people i mean it's certain titles

like i'm always excited for the next chapter

of superior spider -man i mean you know spider

-man's my all -time favorite villain or villain

well Could almost use now well pretty much I

mean he's more of a dick than he was before but

what she said before about not needing to know

about Peter Parker I mean you might want to know

but until you something happens in story that

makes you want to go back and find like You know,

why did this villain say that to spider -man?

Well, you might not know right away, but you

might want to go and find that issue just to

get the context so Right, no, no, no, what I

mean about is that the whole thing is part of

that reviewers comment was that Outside of us

being bland that I'm sorry if we're bland but

you know There's nothing we can really do about

that. Our humor is very dry here at the pull

bag He said we were unknowledgeable and I'm thinking

I'm reading stuff in a new universe with New

52, and I'm reading something completely new

that I've never read before in Superior Spider

-Man, which is something completely different

that Marvel has never pulled a trigger on before

until Dan Slott decided to do so. So to me, yeah,

there might be a reference here or there that

I don't get, or something, or a joke that I might

miss, but at the same time, I don't have a compelling

need to go back and read. Amazing spider -man

number 100 through number 500 to understand something

that happened in superior spider -man number

11 Yeah, you know that that's what I mean I you

know if people want an informational based comic

podcast there are a million other shows out there

I'd be not We are not your Today at 430 in the

DMZ this happened and today's weather you better

take an umbrella there people You know we're

not that I know we're not that bland Yeah, no,

it's I I could understand something like that,

but some for somebody say dry and bland I mean

it's either it's 50 % either They just not into

the format or they're one of those guys who literally

remembers Everything the way spider -man's index

finger was crooked on page 57 of spectacular

spider -man 109 You know one of those one thing

about today's issues that we will be covering.

I didn't notice the foot thing as much Yeah,

it just you don't see like the giant ninja toe

anymore Not as much no yeah So alright, we've

prattled on long enough here. We're gonna jump

into the issues after this New York City only

everything down there was peaceful as it looks

from up here first up is issue number 12 For

Marvel now is the superior spider -man and it

continues the story from last time with the spider

slayer attempting to escape the raft Dun dun

dun Yeah You know, honestly, I I kind of dig

the design for the spider slayer But you know,

I'm more of a fan if people know the 90 spider

-man cartoon I like it when the spider slayer

is just some giant remote -controlled robot exactly

I was like wait a second Alistair Smythe is the

spider slayer but only in this the name only

in name he creates a spider slayer yeah no and

at least I like the take on it it's it's a cool

take but well at least he's not like this two

-toed organic robot with a bad mullet and these

weird organic You know shoulder laser things

from the 90s because when when he became the

spider slayer like that in the show I was just

kind of like no But yeah, I mean and even if

you go back to like the old 60s spider -man cartoon

the first spider slayer robot was this big teddy

bear looking kind of toddling around on two ball

legs and stuff like that, but No, I prefer it

when you know the spider slayers a giant ass

robot tearing up New York City and spider -man's

like oh geez You know and this is issue 11 of

superior spider -man or I'm sorry issue 12 It's

another one of those issues where we get a prologue

before we get the title page recap. Yeah, and

I Almost wants her to be a Jameson book a monthly

Jameson book because holy crap Jonah Jameson

has turned into a badass all of a sudden. Well

power corrupts an absolute power corrupts. Absolutely

yes and so we get the title page and of course

this is no escape part two lockdown of course

it gives the general history of how or what's

going on well the first mini panel is how awk

became superior spider -man blah blah blah you

know and then they're talking about the spider

slayer and and the raft and all that stuff Who

mentions how the trio of villains get upgraded

by the spider slayers? Well silver fish or whatever

you would call those little mechanical bugs Yeah,

whatever they are and and this is you know a

little bit of detriment to me I had almost forgotten

that the vulture got blinded when he fought Otto.

Oh Yeah, he went headfirst into the spider signal

spotlight and this guy Well, beg an issue too,

yeah. Oh yeah, he got a little more than a case

of red -eye. You know, just got his retinas burned

out of his damn head, I mean... You know, the

scorpion was missing his jaw, now he's got, you

know, bright shiny new mechanical mandibles,

and... Well, Boomerang just got beat up real

bad, so it's not like he was that worse, or that

far off. Did you notice what Slott's writing

did for Boomerang? It made him interesting. Well,

there is that but did you notice what slot pulled

out of his hat for how to handle boomerangs powers

Mmm, I might have noticed it but refresh my memory

Who needs mechanical web shooters will make them

organic Yeah Organic boomerangs. He pulled us.

He pulled Aramius, but he did yeah cyber organics.

I like it. I think it's cool. It's a it's a Easy

way to explain the new power or how he's able

to you know, I Mean, I like it. I thought it

was cool. But when I read that line, I'm like,

oh that is so spidey. Oh, too You know, it's

not like They ever really mentioned you think

like you when the captain boomerang fights the

flash and no one ever comments that he never

seems to run out of ammo But that's DC and this

is Marvel. Yes So we've got that panel and then

we've got the panel where because they're all

still trapped in the raft Yeah, this last issue

the end of the last issue was Alistair trying

to figure out how to get out and spider marks

by he is pretty much sealed every every possible

thing that Alistair could do I Love how Jameson

is drawn and colored here. Oh, yeah Yeah, well

he looks like good. That's the one thing you

know that the artist Let me make sure Giuseppe

cam and coli you know his arts really tightened

up with his run on superior spider -man I and

I agree with you I love you know J Jonah looks

like you know this is what he would look like

in real life He did in I love the fact that he

draws him with a fuller mustache with a lot of

people tend to draw J Jonah with a Slightly Hitler

esque stash sometimes For his you know how he's

fanatical about spider -man's a menace and all

that and I love the first once we get into starting

this first panel where Smythe's lawyer is like

it's all your fault your presence here upset.

It's just like shut up punch to the face So many

yeah, and he's just like he just aren't you can

see in his eyes the ways drawn Jonah Just does

not give a shit right now You know and and Glory

Grant, she's, as much as I like Glory, with her

coming over to be the mayor's assistant or whatever

she's supposed to be to Jameson, she should know

better than to try to stop him. You're the mayor

though, and you have people that can do this

for you, and it so reminds me of all those adventures

that JJJ had over in... classic 94 Spidey when

he would go off on his own, or when he would

tell stories of when he was a reporter. So I

like that aspect of it. Yeah. Well, I mean, the

whole thing with Glory is that you can't go off

on your own. It's like you see the Spiderbots,

Spider -Man Spiderbots come in and create like

a force field bubble. And I love what Jen response

for Glory is like, what are you doing? There's

nothing protecting you from Smythe. And Jonah's

like, or him from me. And I was like, Badass

You know Jonah's like that's the thing like I

love the fact that that first page recap like

you see Jonah's got this trauma like he's just

reliving Marla's death over and over again you

know his deceased wife and then everyone's just

like Okay, he's crazy Because you know you got

like the the head of security is in there and

he's all pissy because he can't go off and be

the hero and you know the Jonah just doesn't

care like he's pretty much one way or another

this ends today. That head of security is the

biggest douchebag in the entire book so far.

Oh yeah well we'll get to his shining moment

later on but yeah the guy's just... So far in

these past, you know in 11 and 12 the the first

two chapters of no escape He's a douchebag. I

mean, he does have a shining moment later on.

But yeah, I love this next panel You mentioned

the spiderbots break in and and all this I love

this next panel Attention everyone if you're

seeing this smithes attempted an escape Nice,

now say help us all you want, you're our only

hope. Yeah, Nora Winter is one of my favorite

supporting characters in the Spider -Man comic

right now, and it had to be said, like there's

no way that Slott and Christos Gage, you know,

they're the plotter and scripter on this, they

came up with that moment, they're like, Star

Wars reference, Star Wars reference! And it makes

sense, since Disney owns both. Yeah, and then

you got the Again like I forget the name of the

head security girls like now hold on I'm head

of security and grant glory is just like it's

a recording shut up Yeah, yeah, it's like you

do know he can't hear you right And I guess before

this force field bubble that these spiderbots

Are gonna be making before it harder before the

shell hardens JJJ basically breaks out So there

is that and he goes off and he grabs a gun off

a dead security officer and He actually grabs

his entire uniform doesn't he? Yeah, you don't

see him It's just that that final image is he

just picks up the gun But yeah, I don't know

if he takes it off that guy or he finds like

a spare suit in a locker somewhere You don't

actually see it because later on in the comic

you see JJ's armored up, but the path the page

right after that that is a good that would make

an awesome poster You know spider slayers spider

-man going at it, and you see like spider -bots

in this Silver fish all wrestling over. I just

love that image Yeah Yeah, that is very very

awesome, and it's not often that Otto really

quips about everything because, like I said,

my favorite quick from Otto comes from the first

issue. It's like, well, they just let anyone

into the Sinister Six nowadays. Yeah, but Otto's

reverting to his villain ways, though, in this

issue. Well, he's trying to be a hero in a very

super villainish way. But I love the one crack

he makes. It's like, is it sinking in yet that

you're being outsmarted at every turn? And Spider

Slayer is like, please. Yeah, but then he goes

and basically gives up his plan. Power grid?

Question mark? Damn me for a fool. You know,

it's... The first 11 issues of this series, Otto

has been fairly super intelligent until that

moment. Yeah. Until he, you know, got back into

his old monologuing ways. You never monologue.

Oh god, now I have to put Incredibles audio into

this podcast You got me monologuing you sly devil

Yeah, no, I love that and if there's one thing

I love like the cliched super villain boats like

your death is the reason I exist Yeah, I was

like, oh Okay, yeah, revert to type way don't

you but I mean I love stuff like that and you

moves on you see spider -man and Slayer going

at and it's like I've said word for the Avengers

They'll be here any second and spider -slayers

like reinforcements Why didn't I think of that

and you get that kind of awesome shot of you

know scorpion vulture and boomerang coming down

the hall and you know, dun dun dun to say the

least and I love The one thing I love about Kamakoli's

art is he draws the action very well. The next

page after that, we see Spider -Man throwing

a punch and then jumping in the air and everything.

The way he lays out the art in the pages, I really

like the flow of it. Just Spider -Man and Kamakoli

going at it. I love the motion of the art. If

that makes sense Yeah, no, it's it's very very

awesome yeah, and then you see Jonah kind of

rescue spider -man from the slayer and Slayers

like I'd rather get out than even Yeah, I I Don't

know if I agree with this whole I I obviously

after reading the issue when I read it It was

I guess I'm gonna have to be okay with it cuz

that's where the plot lines going but this whole

thing You must kill him. You must stop him any

any way necessary. I don't I Get that Otto is

his own spider -man now I get that Peter Parker

supposedly is no more But you know Otto saw all

those memories and Otto agreed great power great

responsibility and killing people yeah it's just

not i found it more offensive here that that

Jonah would even entertain that notion regardless

of his uh emotions for Alistair killing his wife

i found it more offensive here that that this

version of Spider -Man killed a man than i did

uh so uh... clark kent's nappings uh... zod's

neck well yeah i mean there's the whole thing

with massacre like you don't actually see like

you see it but you don't see them spiky pulling

the trigger but the whole setup here where he

jona i didn't pick this up this last page this

is what page is this if they numbered their pages

at marvel in dc we could know i think this is

yeah this is like page ten or eleven where autos

is like i want to be absolutely certain what

are you saying and then jonas spells out what

he wants spider -man he wants spider -man to

kill the slayer and this comes back to bite jona

in the next issue you know and so it moves on

spider -man's like obviously i can't force you

to take advantage of my protection but i sure

you things are gonna get worse And then we get

to, you know, the douchebag moment of the captain

of the guards. It's like, this is ridiculous.

I was trained for situations just like this.

I should be out there helping. Also, I have to

go potty. I was like, really, you're, you're

trapped in a forest field bubble and you want

a bitch like that. And then mentioned you got

to go make Tinky. And I was just like, no wonder

you're a douche. But that's the whole thing,

wasn't it? You know, correct me if I'm wrong,

because I haven't gone back and read issues 1

through 10 of Superior Spider -Man. Wasn't the

whole thing of one of the issues was that he

was basically... Otto Spidey is no longer...

Oh, he's on... If you read... I'll certainly

mention when we, at the end of the show, do a

little recap on Spider -Man or Superior Team

Up, he's not fired, he's on probation. Oh, that's

right that I remember that yeah, I remember that

now because again folks. I'm sorry. It's been

so long since since I've I Just don't keep up

since we've chatted like this, but yeah You know

spider -man's on probation because I mean that

that whole thing with the Avengers like that's

right. He's a squirrel. No, he's Yeah, the whole

thing with wait a second. He's a squirrel, isn't

it? And there's and then turn it out. No, he's

not a squirrel. He's just a dick You know any

and I Like I said, eventually they're gonna get

to the whole thing where, you know, I'm sure

Peter's gonna come back someday, and that's gonna

be a really interesting story, but when it comes

out that, you know, Spider -Man's a quote -unquote

villain now, you know, it's gonna be interesting

what Wolverine does. But, you know, back to the

story. Yeah. Um, so... I like this whole thing,

and I think it comes up in this issue. I'm just

remembering it. I'm not, like... even though

I have the issue over the page where Lizard escapes

but the previous page there's a shot of Spidey

with his little spider eye thing saying that

you know showing different things and what I

loved about the rivalry between Superior Spider

-Man and Spider Slayer is that they basically

hacked each other's Visual networks. Yeah, just

see what the hell the I love that. I thought

that was great I thought that was really interesting

for a second there. I was like, wait, am I reading

a Nightwing issue? Yeah. Well, yeah the idea

of the villain just kind of Like the next page

after the whole power bubble, you know, like

I want to go to the bathroom You know goes out

and then you see the spire slayers hacked his

radio and he's like I've traced the frequency

of your robots and shared what I know with some

friends and then boom here come the here come

the judge and you know scorpion comes right through

the wall boomerang follows and all that you know

I love scorpion is one of probably if I did my

top five favorite like just visually top five

favorite visual villains scorpion would be up

there you know just and I love this you know

mecha scorpion design that they came up with

For Matt Gargan now, and I love his threat. It's

like you tore off my jaw. That's where I'm gonna

start with you And it's just that that was probably

one of the more badass Slate what the hell is

going on moments from superior spider -man where

spider -man punches him in the jaw No, he doesn't

punch him a jaw. He punches his jaw off Yeah,

and it's just like that's everyone's just kind

of like whoa what the hell And I love that this

page where you know, the scorpions coming at

him the vultures like every villain gets their

own little You know moment there and like you

said about boomerang how he has the organics

Organic boomerangs. He's like, you know, I used

to worry about running out of boomerangs, but

this suit just grows me new ones and just boom

and see his spider -man's getting mucked about

here a little bit and Yeah, he is and I love

the next page where he's like idiot smites using

you and scorpions like I'm cool with that. That's

because Scorpion is an idiot, and he's always

used to being used. I mean, you know. But I mean,

in this context, I think he's like, yeah, I'm

getting used by Smythe, but you tore my jaw off,

so I'm going to hurt you. So Spider -Man is the

greater of two evils, seriously? Or the lesser

of two evils. I mean, there's an entire episode

worth of debate right there. But I'm saying that...

Spidey points out to Gargan that Smythe is just

using them. And he's like, I don't care, you

broke my jaw off. So basically, for Gargan, Spider

-Man is the greater of two evils. Well, yeah.

But yeah, I get that. I love the idea that this

guy, he's never an A -list villain. I mean, he's

a great villain in the Spider -Man universe.

he's not up on doc ox the green goblin sort of

level and and he's worked for so many different

you know quote unquote masters over the years

you know he was forced for lack of a better term

he was almost forced to become venom back in

the early aughts like that and he's just basically

he's a mercenary he he will work for whoever

so he's you know what i'm cool i get to hurt

you so i'm cool and then you see the spider slayer

is gone he's taken out the power You know, you're

about to lose the light. And everyone's like,

what's going on? The power went out, duh. And

then we get, you know, the lizard who, I dig

the whole idea with Kurt Conner's mind controlling

the lizard's body, which kind of goes back to

the professor version of the Hulk that came out

in the 90s. But I don't also goes back to oh

Crap, what was that two -parter? Secret war yeah

94 episodes the two -parter secret war yeah It

was well it was in the secret war episodes of

spider yeah, but I don't dig this design I Think

it matches all the other design I like Well,

no, I mean it's it's it's a great design like

the whole man lizard lizard man thing It's just

the like the when you look at the lizard. It's

like all it's supposed to be scales but it just

looks like a whole just a mess of lines like

it doesn't really I Know it's a nitpicky thing.

It just doesn't work for me Is what I'm saying

expecting him to have a lab coat and a black

t -shirt damn rights Don't mess with the classic.

That was right. Well, I kind of like because

I mean that was the one thing like in Amazing

Spider -Man, you know well before superior where

the he kind of went full lizard and he was living

in the sewers and he had like this his lizard

powers allowed him to like Mesmerize all these

homeless people and he's got this underground

lab and he's wearing a lab coat and I was like,

yes, it's back. You know, it's Kind of like when

I was a kid and they took that yellow the yellow

oval off of Batman's chest I missed that because

that that was my Batman design growing up so

But yeah, see you go back to the spider slayer

and he's like about to escape He's like farewell

spider -man. You forgot one thing backup generators

and all of a sudden like this geyser of flame

shoots out the hole I'm loving the art when it

comes to certain aspects of this issue it's just

it's just spot on and i think i think the reason

specifically to issue 12 the reason why i didn't

notice any weird spider toe is because this is

a different artist is it not well no uh kamikoli

has done some issues before but he's before he

became on like the whole like primary artist

because it switches between him and iberto ramos

Who shows up in a couple issues again. He's just

doing the covers initially Okay. Yeah, but he's

done some into he's done a cup few issues before

and like I said I'm really digging the way his

arts really tightened up Yeah, yeah, I mean I

mean issue 11 the art is just absolutely amazing

I will say though. I must prefer and we'll get

to it an issue I keep saying issue 11 damn it

issue 12 Much prefer seeing Spidey out in the

daytime. I don't like seeing superior Spidey

inside these It just the suit is too dark To

be in a dark place for me because it's it's red.

It's not red and blue anymore. It's red and black

Yeah, wait wait until you we get to the redesign

in a couple issues But yeah, so I mean, it should

probably move it along here. I mean, Spite sends

coordinates to the villains, he's like, here,

go here, kill these people. Scorpion's like,

uh, no, Spider -Man punched off my jaw, I want

to hurt him. And then Spider -Slayer's, didn't

I mention that J. Jonah Jameson is running around

the prison by himself? Be a good chap and go

kill him, won't you? And Scorpion's like, okay.

Again, he doesn't really care that he's being

told to do anything just as long as he can hurt

somebody. And goes on you got the the vulture

takes off. He's going after the other civilians

leaves boomerang to spider -man I was like, yeah,

that's not gonna end well for boomerang, isn't

it? Cuz he just keeps I loved yeah, like I said

the army just keeps growing these boomerangs

just over and over and then finally say he beats

Boomerang which the most classic spidey way possible

Yeah, that was awesome. Just like what about

my bomber rings? Oh crap Yeah And then you know

he gives the the spider slayer gives spider -man

the oh this moral dilemma It's like you're gonna

stop scorpion or you're gonna stop vulture. You

know is who will you save none of the above?

What are you talking about? Their lives to save

is like you have to save them experiments like

no, I'm gonna kill you I get this, and I like

this a lot, but the whole time I was reading

that when Spiderslayer was saying that, I'm like...

Only time to save one of them, Batman! Who's

it gonna be? The love of Bruce Wayne's life,

or the Dark Knight's secret partner? Junior partner.

Junior partner, yeah. I had a Batman and Robin

flashback when reading that line from... Well,

that was forever, not Batman and Robin. That

was the Riddler. You like my soup? It keeps me

safe while jogging at night. But yeah, it ends

with that Spider -Man's gonna go and kill the

Spider -Slayer. Moving on to issue 12, which

like I said, as much as I don't like Kamikoli's

art, I do like the lizard design and that back

-to -back shot. Spider -man and lizard on the

cover of issue 12 is or 13. Sorry is now you

got me doing it Well, we'll talk about issue

13 after this Can you say I'm going to jail so

issue? 13 now that we are past The two -parter

I won't have a problem here. All right, so issue

13 on a superior spider -man the cover is the

lizard And Spider -Man back to back. Yeah. Well,

I mean, it's just a very, I don't want to necessarily

say iconic, but it is a very classic pose to

have something like that. You know, just with

the, the silhouettes of the villains in the back

and, you know, just the, how you got that light

pouring forward like that. Like I just, I think

that was an awesome image. Like I said before,

I'm not, not that I'm not a fan of the lizard

design. It's just, you know, the way he draws.

The like the details on the scale that like I

said, it's a nitpicky thing. So but yeah Yeah,

the details in the skin. I can see why you you

might not think it's to scale but Overall, I

like the lizard design. I think it's cool. Oh,

yeah, you got it I think it's cool that they

actually did this and had the gall to do Connor's

brain inside the lizard without the Lizard going

berserk. Yeah. Well, like I said, there's like

in the 90s during the was it Gary Frank and Peter

David's run of the Hulk where you know, they

merged the Savage Green Hulk and the Grey Hulk

and Bruce Banner's mind into the Professor Hulk

where You know is a mix of all three that ran

for many years in the Incredible Hulk title That's

kind of the that's kind of the tack. They're

doing with the lizard right now, which I kind

of dig but it's more of a Reverse werewolf kind

of idea in a way with you know, whereas he's

in this monstrous body, but he still retains

his mind So but yeah, no, I dig that cover any

of the recap, you know spider -man auto Octavius

spider slayer gonna die villains break out You

know, let's get ready to rumble basically Love

the subtitle for no escape part three the slayers

and the slain. I think that's a great title Oh,

yeah, no, it's and I love the idea that you know

the whole again playing off the whole slayers

and all that and like who's gonna live who's

gonna die That sort of thing and I do like that

black and white flashback where you see Otto

thinking back to the whole when he switched brains

with spider -man and he's taunting him and you

know Spidey's laying there in the iron lung just

looking at him. I was like damn You know and

then the idea that that shot of Spider -Man coming

swinging down the hall and there's like this

mass of spiderbots I was like I would love to

see the production facility For these things

because how in the hell do you make like a bajillion

little robots like that? Oh, I know it It's it's

also kind of creepy in a way which plays to the

whole villain playing hero that Otto's doing,

so. Oh, holy crap. I didn't even notice. On that

same page, the alternate side of it where you

see Smythe and he's talking to Spider -Man. This

is the scene I meant earlier about they're looking

through each other's signals. I didn't even notice

there was a giant, Raimi -like spider on the

back of Smythe's costume. Yeah, I've noticed

that, too. Well, he is the Spider Slayer. You

know, if he didn't have that, you know, on the

front and back, people are just, so you're the

Silverfish? Yeah, exactly. Like, it doesn't,

without that, you don't get the idea that, well,

I mean, obviously he's a bad guy, but you don't

know who he is necessarily. He's like, I am the

great Silver Insect Man! Yeah, I mean, unless

you're, unless you have an orange face with an

orange hood, fly around on a glider or a green

or giant green ears and talk like this and I

can get a say and we'll get get into this more

as we go to issue 14 and 15 but I love how Slot

isn't just trotting out Green Goblin. It's all

behind the scenes. I love that. It's a very slow

burn, which I really like. It's a slow burn,

but it's not as slow as half of Season 3 of Breaking

Bad. It's a slow burn, but it's not molasses

in January. Exactly. The way they've used Norman

Osborn, I love the fact that You know, they just

kept him as a Spider -Man villain for so long,

but with, you know, Civil War and all that, how

they made him a Marvel villain, not just a Spider

-Man villain. Right. And now they're bringing

him kind of back like this, but it's a slow build

because the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and

well, Venom are probably my three favorite Spider

-Man villains in just in general in the Spider

-Man, you know, mythos. and the green goblins

absolutely one of my favorite villains and I

can't wait to see what he's doing with this how

he's merging he's he's bringing all these different

gangs together and certainly when we get to uh

you know 15 and then 16 what you see what he's

he's building something it's going to be so cool

when that comes out yeah so and I love the spider

slayer he's like You know, just give me what

I want and we all leave here alive and spider

-man's like there's only one leaving one way

you're leaving in a body bag and I was like,

oh It's on And the next page is a giant panel

to the death and again like kamikoli like he

really gets these kind of Like really cool iconic

shots like that. Like that's a really cool image

I mean of him fighting because you see the battle

damage on spidey and You know, he's just coming

in. He's like, well, you know, launch all the

torpedoes and damn them at damn the masses. But

then they get back to the vulture and the other

civilians. And is it just me or is like the vulture

even creepier now than he was before? Yeah, he

is. Before I turn the page, though, I It wouldn't

be a superior Spider -Man episode of the pullback

if I didn't constantly go back and rag on the

ads in Marvel books. I get it. Marvel's owned

by Disney. I understand why they put in, hey,

Marvel merchandise, backpacks, all that stuff

for kids. I get that. I'm fine with that. Yeah.

Why the hell, on the opposite page of the To

the Death page, is there an ad for Cirque du

fucking Soleil? Because Disney's I get it people

buy It's just like something somebody going down

to the Daily Bugle and buying advertising in

the Daily Bugle I get that but it's like I look

at the bottom I think it's starting at $69 who

the fuck would pay $69 to see that crap See and

just as a quick aside like you mentioned IDW

being like a big focus of the pull bag At least

in terms of the titles we look at that's the

one thing I love about IDW comics is that all

their ads are at the back the back I know so

there's like five or six pages of ads which I'm

cool with But you're not interrupting. It's like

Most of them aren't even ads most of them are

solicits for what's coming out They're not even

like IDW might have an ad at like the the flip

like the front cover. Yeah When you turn the

cover, they might have an ad. But the rest of

the stuff is all their solicits at the back of

the book. Oh, IEW. You guys rule. Yeah. So yeah,

but back to Spider -Man. Back to the bubble.

Yeah, he's like, and just the way Kamakoli draws

the vulture hiding there, and he's got the claws

out, and he's like, I'll get you, my pretty.

And he's like, hmm, there's weaknesses in the

bubble right here. and he does this arcane like

ripping off archangels feather darts you know

he takes out some of the spider bots and then

then the priest that was there to like officiate

the execution he's like trying to appeal to the

vulture and the vulture's like i don't give a

good gosh darn what god thinks of me and you

know nor is like you have a grandson it was like

and that's when i saw that that made me think

is a lot of the villains unless they're they're

family members are a part of the story. Like,

you know, Norman and Harry and all that. You

never know whether or not these guys have any

family. You know? Yeah, yeah. Well, the difference

between someone like the Vulture, Adrian Toomes,

when he's the old man, and someone like Matt

Gargan, who is just the biggest douchebag in

Spider -Man's rogues gallery. the differences

is that you know he says that you know what you

know vulture says it he doesn't just say i don't

give a crap about god he says i don't care about

your god so that must mean he worships some other

religion or he's an atheist oh yeah there is

that um but at the same time it's like you're

right you know they appealed to his second nature

with his family and it's like well yeah because

you got the sorry you go no good I was just saying

like, Norrie, you know, what about your family?

You know, is this the legacy you want to leave?

And then Glory and the DA off the district attorney

there is like, you know, we could get you leniency.

And then Smice lawyers like leniency. Hell, I

could get you acquitted. Yeah. And then Douchebag

McGee, the prison captain, he's like, soon as

the force field goes down, we blast them. Then

the one guy sir. He's considering it. He's like

shut up. We're gonna shoot him I mean Like we

call this guy douchebag, and I mean he was in

the beginning and then he started to have a hero

complex Well, I think yeah, and he got that hero

complex because when Jonah first gets to the

raft He's all like you suck at your job. I should

fire you Yeah, exactly so and then you see the

scorpion like you know hulk out or do a kool

-aid man impression come through the wall and

Jonah's sitting there with like an automatic

weapon he just opens up on him and he's like

i don't care he's like i got a gun in my hands

boom boom boom boom i don't know what do you

think about that like with Jonah just gunning

down the scorpion like that it's self -defense

i mean he did jump through a wall he's like oh

crap And then he does say at last I'm finally

gonna get my hands on the guy I hate the most

in the world in my closet so it's not like It's

not like Jonah. Just you know walks into it.

You know it's only Jonah just knocks an apartment

door That person opens the door and Jonah just

shoots him right in the head Yeah, and I mean

for those that don't know I mean way back in

the early the very first few issues of spider

-man the scorpion was basically created by Jonah

like Jonah bankrolled the operation that turned

Mac Gargan into this you know granted back then

he just had this tail and it didn't even have

a stinger you know punch holes through solid

steel sure but you know he he Kool -Aid man's

through the wall Jonah opens up on him and all

of a sudden lizard to the rescue I love that

last panel I'm Curtis Connor. I love the design.

I love the way the design of the lizard looks

like that. Yeah. And like a full -on head shot

kind of thing. I like that. I thought that was

cool. Well, I like, and again, like I said with

the art, I like the profile side where he's like

leaping into the fray and it's like, that's the

lizard. And when he, you don't really get the

sense of how creepy the lizard looks until you

get that full on right look at him. And it basically

looks like his head looks like a brain almost

like Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of that,

but I do love this design how they make him look

Significantly different than he has before Yeah,

well, you know that goes back to the earlier

art specifically the cover was an issue nine

Spidey brain. Yeah, I mean that's really what

that's a callback to the percorectomy Yeah So

yeah, then we get lizard versus scorpion And

so the reptile battles in this book now, yeah,

and the power of the force fields dissolving

and you know, I Do like that's a Spider -man

breaks like One of spider slayers tendrils or

something's like I surrender and it's like, you

know, of course the civilians are in mortal danger

You should just go save them and leave me alone

and spider -man's like nothing doing in tentacle

to the chest Yeah, that was some amazing art

right there. Oh, yeah, well you get the whole

like Like the violence and everything and just

that kind of stunned Kind of look that the spider

slayer has he's like, you know, ow But he moves

on and then when he because the spider slayer

is like mortally wounded all the tech that's

been grafted onto the scorpion and the vulture

and boomerang just breaks down I'm blind I can't

see well it's more so like we're the scorpion

because he's I mean he's got it worse than you

know vulture I would say because you know all

of a sudden it's like what this is and also you

know he's got no jaw now and then I love how

Jonah's the lizard's like this man needs medical

attention and Jonah's like yes yes he does let's

go Like, he just walks away from the scorpion,

which I was like, damn, dude. And of course,

Boomerang, he was in like, what, a full body

cast. So he's like, ah, I'm free. And then as

you were, Boomerang, he's like, ah, man. He just

gets webbed to debris. And again, Douchebag McGee,

you can see where the vulture crashes, the force

field pops. And then he just lights up the vulture,

like him and two other guys. He just tased the

hell out of them. And Douchebag McGee's real

name is Guard Shipley. Oh, yeah. Mr. Shipley,

I just... I don't know, it's just... The guy

just annoys me. Like, first of all, you suck

at your job, you get bitched out by your boss,

the mayor, and then you decide, I'm just gonna

do whatever the hell I want. You know what you

just described, JT? What's that? Sam Witwicky

from all three Transformers films. I can see

Shyla Bitch playing this character, Shipley.

Where did I put the brain bleach? Where is the

brain bleach? Oh, God. Shy is in my head. I can't

stand that guy. I do like how Jonah, you know,

he's with the lizard. He stands up for the lizard

and he spells it out. Yeah, it's like this is

Curtis Connors. You know, he's a hero. And then

Spider -Man pops in, you know, they release everybody,

you know. And then you go, Shipley's like, he's

getting the lizard back into this, you know,

armor cage thing that they had him locked up

in before, and he's like, it's cool, it's cool,

I'd prefer to be cautious too. And General's

like, fine. And then... Where you see the whole

the whole plan for the spider slayer was for

him to die Because he's ranked Oh just yeah,

because they're they're walking towards the edge

and all of a sudden all the silverfish pile up

out of this vent and they're bringing the body

of The slayer who's basically his body's dead,

but his mind's inherent in his technology And

stuff like that And just I love just the kind

of grotesque visual of this corpse rising out

of the hole You know held up by all these bugs.

It's like that's a horror movie moment right

there and then he's yeah, then he shanked shippley

and Spider -man takes him out onto the rocks

and you see the spider slayer steals a page from

dr octopus's book where he tries to implant his

mind and i will have the ultimate revenge on

you i will steal your life i wait why isn't this

working i know yeah that's so awesome and it's

just like you the like like all your escape attempts

i thought of it first and closed it off to you

he's like no i've planned this for months how

could you think of anything and spider -man's

like because i'm dr octopus bitch And granted

he doesn't say that but I mean, that's that's

the moment. I didn't ever think he would say

like to anyone Well, yeah, just just to reveal

it like just yeah, I'm dr. Octopus Bitch yeah.

Yeah. Well basically and then the spider slayer

dies and You know what what follows? Goes back

to last issue where you know, Jonah spills it

out for spider -man what he wants to do You know

that they're going back to like, hey, Mr. Merrick,

can I talk to you over here for a second? And

he blackmails J. Jonah Jameson, mayor of New

York City, into giving him the raft, the island

that this prison's been shut down. Spider -Man

now has his own island headquarters. And he shall

call it Spider Island, part two. You know, because

of this whole spider. And I love that last image

where He's like, uh, well, technically I am a

new client. He's calling a service to set up

minions. Awesome. The specs for the uniforms

over a new uniform. Yeah, why not? And then you

see he's got like one of the giant, uh, Octobots

from, you know, from, uh, amazing Spider -Man

from his, where he tried to take over the world

and Spider -Man is just sitting there humming

a tune and repainting. the thing and you see

in the last the bottom corner that last image

you see the kind of redesign that they're going

for with the new costume yeah yeah we'll talk

about the new costume uh in a moment here when

we get to issue 14 but uh yeah overall issue

13 was um interesting well yeah i mean the whole

no escape storyline like the idea that you know

spider -man's been brought in to You know slay

the spider slayer should he try to escape and

the idea that Otto Again going with the whole

superior theme. He puts some thought ahead He's

not just going in there to like officiate the

execution He went ahead and he blocked off every

possible escape route and a hero would not necessarily

think about that nope not at all so we're gonna

move on we'll be back after this unless they

get their tickets punched by their friendly neighborhood

spider -man for issue 14 we have the cover of

superior spider -man who is it just me JT or

are DC and Marvel trying to collaborate with

each other and turn Spider -Man and Nightwing

into the same character, because I swear the

pants or the bottom half of the costume on this

cover looks just sort of similar to what Nightwing's

new 52 costume is a little bit. I would say or

I would argue it's more like the pre -52 version

of Nightwing's suit. Because I mean the new one's

got that slightly 90s armored look to it. But

yeah, it's very similar to Nightwing suit I when

I first saw this new image where it's basically

a black Unitard with like the little bit of Spidey

like that Spidey shield on the top there looked

very much like the Bucky cap costume that Bucky

Barnes where he's just got this top shield and

then the black everything else and you see in

the background you know it's umberto ramos is

back doing the art who's he's one of my favorite

spider -man artists because he just has this

kind of kinetic feel to his thing you see the

massive minions behind him and i was like oh

god spider -man's becoming a villain you know

i mean if if there was any clear indicate if

there's any clear indicator of somebody becoming

a super villain it's minions and it's not the

minions that we all know and love but dudes in

like body suits and goggles and shit like that.

But yeah, I mean, I think this is just a single

issue story called The Blind Eye. We get into

it. It's a shot of Shadowland, which if you guys

haven't read Daredevil the last few years, here's

the skinny. The kingpin controls the hand, which

is this murderous cult of ninja. There's a giant

Japanese castle called Shadowland in the middle

of Hell's Kitchen in New York that this kingpin's

been taking over for years and people generally

don't like living in Hell's Kitchen because of

all this stuff running around. You know, because

you see this father looking after his daughter

and there's this boom boom boom outside and you

see it's a giant mech of some kind walking down

the street. You go into the kingpin planning

things out because of and it goes back to the

few issues ago where spider -man's you know this

one man war on crime he's taking out one criminal

family after another and the kingpin of course

is going to expand his operation and take over

and then you see i thought that this took like

i thought when i started reading this issue after

reading the no escape issues again yeah Or, well,

you know what I mean, after reading issue 11

again, which was the first part of No Escape,

and then reading issues 12 and 13, when I got

to this, I'm like, oh, OK, cool, a single one

-shot story dealing with whoever. I thought more

time had passed than just a week ago. Oh, yeah.

Like, the way this issue starts, dude, it's like,

I think it's a father and son, honestly. Because

the kid's name is Leo, the father is Jamie. Okay,

I know I thought that was a girl, but yeah either

way You know I thought you know okay. This is

cool and and again like I said with issue 13

I love how they started out with narration from

Jameson here I love how we're starting out with

a completely different character than just hey.

It's an average day in superior spider -man's

life. I'm doing you know i'm glad that slot has

moved away from doing that like what he did in

the first i don't know six or seven eight because

i get the first six or seven issues you have

to set up the care of the whole dating thing

and all that you know i get you to set the character

but i'm glad that they're now going to you know

not just starting with with spider -man I think

that's great. But yeah, no, you're right You

know, you've got the whole Hell's Kitchen thing

and this giant monster and yeah and a quick thing

just to mention the what I liked about this beginning

the most is You see you don't very often see

in Marvel Comics, you know the guy on the street

Perspective and you get this perspective of this

dude, you know, he's living in one of the worst

parts of Marvel's New York City And he even says

they're ninjas and crazy super freaks starting

in and out at night terrible screams coming from

the inside, you know And and it's basically this

the average man like why isn't anyone doing something

about it? He's thinking you know, he I can't

look away anymore and he's you know angry with

rage and then you know spider mech and I love

the kingpins plotting to take over and it's like

spider -man It's like you hear him. He taps into

his PA system or something He's like you come

out your reign of terror is over and I love the

narcissistic way Kingpin goes outside. You dare

show yourself at the gates of my stronghold at

the very heart of my kingdom? Are you mad? And

then next page, giant spider mech and slightly

smaller spider mechs. And then Spider -Man is

like, in a word, regicide. You know, I just love

that. It's like you don't see stuff like this

in Marvel very often. So. Might have we might

have covered this already, but seriously What

did what did what did not do when he was a villain

did he save all his money or something? I think

it's like probably got like a bajillion dollars

in secret offshore accounts and shit like that.

Okay, cuz Every every issue he comes up with

something new something more and that I Guess

you could say spider -man's version of a spider

slayer giant red robot oh yeah oh man and i like

that he's got like you know the the little mechs

are arachnauts so he's like target all of the

shadowland structures and his spiderlings like

his minions take out the ninjas yeah you know

and then i love the reaction of the man on the

streets next page you know you got i think it's

actually pronounced hi -may but Maybe it's Jamie,

I don't know. I don't know. And they're like,

what's going on? And it's like, remain calm,

citizens. We are Spider Patrol 7. You know? Yeah.

And he's like, Spider -Man? Yes. He's ending

the threat of Shadowland. And I love the grandma's

reaction that last panel, where it's like some

kind of messed up Thanksgiving Day parade. Or

the Fourth of July! You know? And then... Bastille

Day. Yeah, it's just a dead note. It's Bastille

Day, and it's like, wow, a kickass comic book

and educational information. I love Marvel. Yeah.

And just that image of like, you know, talking

about like some of the iconic images that Kamakoli

did in the last couple of issues, that next page

of, you know, the spiderlings versus the ninjas.

And again, I love the Kingpin. It's not that

he's not a relevant villain. but the way Scott's

writing his dialogue is like, wall crawler, you

will pay for this effrontery. And who talks like

that? The kingpin does. I like that. I mean,

you know, it's not that he hasn't talked like

that. It's just this isn't the usual sort of,

you know, dialogue that the kingpin uses. Like

he's become so much more of a super villain in

the last four years instead of just being like

the kingpin so and i love how you know he's got

the the hobgoblin's been working for him as his

bodyguard and he's like you know everything's

going to hell and the other spiderman's and you

along with it hobgoblin but even now even in

this issue this is the first time we've seen

kingpin correct in this series in the superior

series right i think there might have been like

a one panel Appearance or something like that

an early issue, right? This is like the first

full -on full pin story. Yeah So technically

kingpin was originally a spider -man villain

and then got co -opted by daredevil years later.

So yeah, but you're no so that's the thing is

that This version of kingpin again Reminds me

so much and pretty much any reference. I make

ladies and gentlemen just for the listeners.

It's going to be 94 Spidey because that cartoon

is awesome. I don't care what Ben says It's just

one of those things where when I'm reading this

I'm hearing that voice you said that you know

who talks like that 94 Kingpin maybe not exactly

like maybe not these exact lines, but he had

that bravado about him. He had that Well, yeah,

that's Roscoe Lee Brown. I believe was the guy

that yep that yeah No, that was one of the best

things about Kingpin is he just had this smug

arrogance about him kind of thing. But yeah,

whenever I read Kingpin, I hear Roscoe Lee Brown's

voice and I love the reappearance. The one thing

that I kind of liked in Civil War was the iron

spider armor that he had. And I like doc. That's

who the big red machine reminds me of is iron.

Okay iron spider We're the next page where you

know spider the little backpack that spider -man's

sporting you he sprouts these legs and I know

some people when I was in the store and I was

flipping through this and a couple my friends

were like Why are the ninjas crumbling into dust?

Well, that's what happens when you punch a ninja

from the hand they go poof The because they're

like demon ninjas or something, but I like that

storyline is supposed to be happening at night,

right? More or less. Yeah Damn, I was gonna make

a ninja vampire joke. Yeah Yeah, I love that

incoming call from the mayor's office very well

put it through And he's like, sorry, I got to

take this isn't a good time. Mr. Mayor. Oh, this

shouldn't take too long I just have one question.

What the hell are you doing? And again, this

is my favorite version of J Jonah whether he's

a newspaper publisher or the mayor is his alliteration

It's like you blithering bug -brained buffoon.

You're blowing up a building and then spider

-man's like shut up Yeah, it's a criminal headquarters

why is it still standing it goes down tonight

you know even though even though Jonah is the

mayor now i still hear jk simmons every time

oh no Jonah Jonah is Jonah it doesn't matter

what he's doing i know but we'll know that every

time that i've read him in this series i still

hear jk simmons in my head because jk simmons

could so pull off these lines oh yeah I mean,

don't get me wrong, I liked Ed Asner as Jonah

in the 94 series, but my preferred Spider -Man

or J Jonah is, you know, JQ Simmons. Cause that

guy, that dude is awesome. But see, that's the

thing. It's like, we don't, you know, yes, Ed

Asner is J Jonah, Jameson was great in the 94,

Spuddy, but ever since then, ever since the first

film. It's been JK. JK is Jamison in Ultimate

Spidey. I don't know who played him in Spec Spidey,

but you know, it's JK right now. Well, yeah,

JK Simmons is to Jonah as Kevin Conroy is to

Batman. Pretty much, yeah. I mean, that's awesome.

I mean, the only time that I cannot hear... JK

is in the last issue when it was Jonah versus

Scorpion. That's when I hear Ed Asner. Gargan,

you idiot. You'll never amount to any, you know,

that. Yeah, that attitude, you know, that that

presence that Asner had would fit so perfectly

with, you know, Jonah in the prison with a shotgun.

Yeah, oh, yeah, there's this But yeah, I love

that, you know Jonah's bitching out spider -man

and spider -man. You don't have the authority.

Oh, I will You're gonna give it to me. Yeah,

and it's like, you know fill out what reforms

you have the mayor's office backs this play Do

I have to remind you what we talked about last

week? I know right there it's not a very self

-serving thing to say, but you can't. There'll

be questions. Casual. Think of the lives that'll

be lost. And that bit of dialogue, I just kept

thinking of the Jonah from the 67 Spider -Man

cartoon. How he was just this big whiny baby.

And I just kept hearing that version of Jonah

coming through right there. He's like, I'll be

ruined, why me? That sort of thing. And he's

like, there'll be casualties. And Spider -Man's

like, what casualties? These things turn into

dust as soon as I breathe at them. And the only

bodies you'll find will be that of the King Pan

and his psychotic murdering bodyguard, the Hobgoblin.

Again, this is, well this is such a king, what

happens next is such a kingpin thing, it is even

more so a super villain thing. Like, the king

thing is a great criminal villain, but to be

a super villain, you have a secret room with

some dude that is as big as you are, that's had

plastic surgery look at you, and you just basically

feed him ice cream, popcorn, and fried chicken.

and he's just like he comes in he's like mr.

Fisk nobody said you were coming oh yeah it's

okay Hobgoblin meet mr. Smedley are you having

a good time Smedley TV video games all you can

eat yeah pretty sweet deal oh that's good neck

snap I love even Hobgoblin's reaction he's like

holy crap yeah fire wood fire yeah uh... that's

fine yet all you know what kingpins is and this

is what makes in the super villain not that he

had a body double the fact that he had a body

double his d in a mix his own that isn't a street

-level criminal kingpin that is a freaking super

villain that's kingpin hopping over the dc universe

and grabbing some old cadmus tech oh yeah that

this straight -up lex luther now and all right

and i do like that now i never thought of that

you're right bald kingpin is a white fat bald

lex luther very much and i i love the james bondy

in villain way he's got a one man mini sub that

he takes off and he's like sadly mr hobgoblin

the time has come for us to say goodbye hmm smart

boy because you just see hobgoblin just like

poof gone you know he's hacking his way out of

the rubble And then he runs right, and this is

again something that goes back to what the Green

Goblin's planning. He's hacked Spider -Man's

spider or web net or whatever it's called, where

he runs into a spider bot who does not detect

Hobgoblin because of this hack that the Green

Goblins put in there. I just love the dumbfounded

look on the Hobgoblin's face. It's like, huh,

must be busted. I'm gone. Yeah. And then you

see the dust settling and Spider -Man and his

minions walking out looking all stoic and what

not. Jaime's like, thank you Spider -Man, thank

you so much. That's what I'm here for. And this

is all thanks to the gracious support of our

very own J. Jonah Jameson. and this again that

last panel with Jonah the black mailing bug he's

got me right where he wants me right under his

web thumb cahoots cahoots i say and again that

is 67 Jonah Jameson right there just that you're

pulling out his hair is what the hell am i gonna

do because i love that just we're in cahoots

cahoots yeah and then and then just the whole

thing with Jaime and you know look you know,

sending Leo to stay with the Mrs. Danforth, I

guess she's called and he walks by these two

guys and basically it's a drug deal and you see

that the drug dealer is part of the Goblin's

plan because he's not dressed up like a Goblin,

he just has a Goblin tat which is something they

established like back in Amazing Spider -Man

before it closed that there's this kind of Goblin

cult or something operating in New York City.

And people with this tattoo, they're not detected

by, you know, the spider bots. And it goes down

here and you see the hand ninjas come in and

you see in the crowd there's, you know, hand

ninjas, the white dragon's guys, Mr. Negative's

boys. And this is where, you know, the Green

Goblin is taking over crime in New York City.

You know, he's absorbed the infrastructure of

Kingpin's operation. You know, he's the goblin

Kingpin of crime. Yes, he's pretty much already

won. Yeah. And New York is his. And I love the

look that Alberto Ramos drew, like the face of

the goblin this last panel, where he's just got,

you know, the normal eye on the right and this

big googly eye on the left. And you can almost

hear this, you know, a very excellent you know

Mr. Burns sort of look there because like a villain

this guy is the villain and then yeah and that

last shot of you know doing the whole god i've

won new york is mine you know stuff like that

and as far as issues go this is up there in the

run of superior spider this is up there with

one of my favorites i mean it's moving the story

along without actually moving the story along

if you get what i mean just everything's it's

just stuff's falling into place and it's building

towards what's going to come next so yeah and

just looking at the i love the when you look

in the last page there we show like the previews

for the upcoming spider -man comics you know

there's uh i love that we'll get to it next you

know when i'll talk about the cover so yeah we'll

do that after this i've heard old man jameson

pulled some strings and got him in He's some

kind of special photojournalist from the Bugle.

Guess it's time for the world to get acquainted

with the all -new, all -improved Spider -Man.

This year's fully loaded model features nanotechnology,

discreetly borrowed from the lab of Reed Richards.

This scientific marvel features billions of microscopic

robots working in harmony to make one spiffy

set of dives complete with optional anti -symbiote

devices. And finally up today the superior spider

-man number 15 on the cover Spidey versus the

goblin I know and see the one thing like I said

I love this cover like the way of Berto Ramos

is drawing spider -man very insect like cuz you

look at his talons on his fingers and Just the

way the body is you know with the legs. He's

got that you know he's grown 15 separate vertebrae,

so you know his spines going a few more degrees

than a human should you've got the legs all over

like that and how the logo is kind of obscured

by spider -man like that you know what this looks

like don't you pray tell what the tentacles coming

out of his back yeah they're organic arms Ladies

and gentlemen who needs metallic mechanical arms

when you have organic arms coming out of yourself

It's but it's basically very awk like is what

it is. At least that's what it looks like to

me Well, yeah, I mean the cuz the irons spider

armor for some reason it only had three legs

so Obviously, yeah, it's got the whole octopus

thing and you're right It does have this very

organic almost like he has a symbiote or something

Just the way it looks and I hope I hope slot

tackles venom eventually. Well, apparently I've

seen some previews for upcoming issues of superior

Flash Thompson who's now venom in the Marvel

Universe is comes back to New York City and You

know, it's the first time he's seen spider -man

in quite a while. So it's basically It's gonna

be spider -man versus venom except this time

venoms more of a hero than spider -man so that

that'll be interesting to talk about when we

get to it so yeah very interesting so yeah all

right for the recap um kingpin had said his operation

up in shadowland a giant fortress in the middle

of hell's kitchen shadowland was thought to be

impenetrable however the octopus spider -man

decided it was time to finish shuttling off once

and for all Now Shadowland is no more and the

kingpin is apparently dead But a new power is

rising in the city and it's led by none other

than the green goblin and this issue number 16

or damn it 15 we keep getting our numbers crossed

up today. Ladies and gentlemen, sorry issue 15

of superior spider -man is run goblin run part

one of two the tinker's apprentice Yeah, and

and the one thing I gotta say like in that first

recap box where it talks about the hobgoblins

how the original hobgoblin who was believed to

be dead but really just operating in south america

under a different alias is basically he there

was this awesome issue a few back where he comes

back to new york it might have been in spider

-man team up actually where he comes back to

new york beats the crap out of the current hobgoblin

philly urik and basically look You're gonna pay

me every month to be the Hobgoblin or I will

end you So that's why the Hobgoblin, you know

And if you haven't read amazing spider -man prior

to this when phil yurt became the hobgoblin who

years ago He found one of norman osborne's secret

labs falls into a tank of goblin juice Becomes

the heroic green goblin in the 90s and then just

became like almost a non -entity for many years

you know basically the goblin juice finally makes

phil go crazy and he becomes a super villain

and then he becomes like an anti peter parker

where he's working at the daily bugle with norwinters

he always manages to find video of the hobgoblin

doing something evil and that's how he basically

makes money off of being the hobgoblin he gets

paid by the kingpin to be his bodyguard And then

he has to give all his money to this guy who

was the original Hobgoblin. So I wouldn't say

he's a conflicted character, but a situation

like that makes Phil even more unstable than

he was before. You know, I mentioned earlier,

I've mentioned several times in this episode,

references to the AMC show Breaking Bad, Phil

is pretty much Walter White. a very, very young

Walter White in the sense of Phil has to, as

you just said, has to pay this other guy to be

the Hobgoblin while Walter works for another

guy cooking math. So it's kind of a little bit

similar. There's elements there. I'd say you

mix in a little bit of Jesse with the Walter

and yeah, you're pretty much got Hobgoblin. And

I love the fact they brought, you know, the Tink,

the terrible Tinkerer is still in business in

the Marvel Universe. And he's one of my favorite

obscure villains where this guy is just basically

tech support, but he's evil tech support. You

know, when he comes in, he's like, God damn it,

Hobgoblin, I told you, no costumes through the

front door. I know, right? Oh, man, he reminds

me so much of, um... Come on Lex come join my

legion of doom. Oh, yeah, it's like unlimited.

Yeah, it's it's it's there and I Love how a virtual

Ramos in that bottom panel there. You look the

look in Hobgoblin's face. He's like He's just

like he's just worn out. He's got this stress

look on him. The spider's gone crazy blew up

Shadowland giant robots Cacophony, you know,

he took out the kingpin You know, and he's just

selling that whole line because he knows the

kingpins not dead. And he basically, you know,

needs the tinker to, you know, fix them up and

everything. And that's where the tinker after

he leaves, the tinker brings out his assistant,

Ty Stone, who readers may remember used to work

at Horizon Labs and was the inside man for the

kingpin who got fired. And basically, he's kind

of been on the run. You know, he's. Living in

the tanker's back room, you know making some

money working on this and Basically, he's a mess

with the wrong nerd. Oh, yeah, like It doesn't

happen very often in DC, but it happens all the

time in Marvel Comics where Most nerds who will

generally turn evil. It's like an 80 -20 sort

of mix You know depending on who's gonna turn

But I love the look on his face where he's been

hiding for weeks He's been plotting his revenge

because basically the hobgoblin screwed him over

and now he's out for revenge And yeah, it's just

you missed with the wrong nerd. I'm just sitting

there. It's like oh, yeah, this isn't gonna end

well I was just gonna say I love the line. It

is inner monologue You know, it's like holed

up in this closet with nothing better to do than

coming up with a million ways to ruin you! To

ruin you all! Muahaha! Yeah. And see, this next

page is exactly why I like seeing Superior Spider

-Man out in the daylight, because the blue sky

really offsets his dark suit. Oh yeah, the contrast.

Yeah, the contrast is so much better. Whereas

basically, when he's on night missions, he's

basically invisible. except for the red. Well,

yeah, but that kind of works, you know, because

he's supposed to be all stealthy. No, I know,

but I don't know, I just, I like colors that

pop in comics and... Oh yeah. Certain heroes

during the daylight. Yeah, and you're in this

case hero in quotation marks Wink wink. Yeah,

and and I love the conversation he has with Carly

Cooper there were you know, he's talking He's

like well, it would be more irresponsible to

let the evil flourish while I had the power to

stop it and she's like so might makes right and

he's like I prefer the phrase with great power

comes great responsibility and I was like, oh

god like that's awesome but it kind of hurts

at the same time because he's using he's using

uncle ben's credo in a super villainish way very

much so you know and i was just like oh and you

see like you know the he and most how often do

you really see the avengers stick around after

they kick a super villain's ass and help with

the cleanup you know you i'm not saying you don't

see it but i mean this is it's kind of refreshing

to actually see spider -man there the next day

Yeah, and specifically help Hell's Kitchen the

smoking crater that used to be Shadowland Yeah,

so it goes on you got the captain what Watanabe

I think is her like that and again, that's one

of the characters that was created in the Amazing

spider -man who she basically took on she stole

some super villain tech from NYPD lockup and

became a new version of this past spider -man

character the wraith who it's easy just look

up gene de wolf in spite on the wiki and read

up on that people cuz it would take too long

to explain so basically she's pretty much the

barbara gordon bad girl of marley universe kinda

i would say she's more like uh... kate spencer

who is this super hero no known as the manhunter

but there's definitely a lot of barbara gordon

in there too i'd say Carly's more Barbara Gordon

than anything Right, but I'm saying that if you

look at old Barbara Oh, yeah, she's now the commissioner.

She used to be back girl. Oh, yeah Look at this

person. You know, you look at what you know,

Kevin Watanabe here. She's a police officer plus

She's a supervillain or whatever the hell, you

know, I mean, it's the same. Yeah, you're right

You know Carly is more Barbara more young Barbara

than anything else, but But yeah No, we haven't

seen MJ for a while. No, no, you mean Carly.

No, I mean MJ. No, yeah, no, we definitely haven't

seen her for a while. Uh... Oob is halfway hanging

out. Yeah. Yeah. But you got the... where this

is where it gets off like they're starting to

build towards Spider -Man being exposed where

he tells Carly that the mayor is paying for all

this stuff. And then she's talking to the captain

and he's like he says it's in the city budget

and the cap captains one knob He's like, I don't

think so. So now they're they're basically going

like the feds after Al Capone. They're following

the money Which is gonna like I said, eventually

when he gets exposed it's gonna be interesting

and then you go to back to the daily bugle and

You know, it's again This is how Phil Pate makes

money. He basically has a hover bat videotaping

him doing stuff as Hobgoblin and he sells it

to the Daily Bugle. And it's just, I love the

fact that they finally brought the bugle back.

Cause I mean, an amazing, when they first did

this reboot, Jonah had a heart attack. his wife

Marla sold the newspaper, it became this muckraking

tabloid, and eventually the building got leveled

by a supervillain. And eventually, I think they

had, it was an amazing, Marla, before she died,

convinced Jonah to sell the rights to the name

Daily Bugle to Phil Yurick and Robbie Robertson,

who were running this paper called Frontline.

And, you know, they sold the name and it became

the Daily Bugle again. So I love the fact that

they've brought the Daily Bugle back. into the

story like this and you but you get back to it

Nora's looking over the video and Again, it's

it's like Jonah and Peter back in the day where

Robbie's asking Phil Don't know how you keep

doing it. We'd like to know and He's basically

uh Phil's like, you know what would really help

cutting me a nice check Yeah, really He's basically

being dick Peter just what he's being. Well,

yeah, he's he's evil Peter and then and you see

him at home again This is a Peter Parker thing.

He's worrying about his bills. Is he gonna be

able to pay the tinkerer? Is he gonna be able

this the money to you know Kingsley who? just

happens to Skype in give him a Skype call and

You know, it's like you better have my money

kid. You don't want me terminating your contract.

Do you? I'm a little short Well, what are you

looking at me for? Go rob a bank. Or five. Yeah.

And they have that jam cover of, uh, you know,

the Hobgoblin and Spider -Man doing their thing.

And where Spider -Man finally, you know, cops

to the thing that... Why aren't my spider -bots

seeing him? Why was I not alerted to his presence?

And then he sends out, basically he sends out

his minions to patrol the city and it goes on

and yeah, finally, MJ. Yeah, finally. It's like,

okay, we get it, she's sexy. Because I just love

the fact she's standing in the ruins of her club

who got bombed a while back and she's talking

to Aunt May who, again, we haven't seen Aunt

May in a while either. No, or Matt like the horizon

folks like a max modal and everybody and You

know apparently, you know I was beginning to

wonder if they're ever getting back to horizon

because you know you had the whole thing where

you know max spelled it out for Peter that he's

gonna shape up or he's gonna get shipped out

and I guess horizons being sued because they

mentioned lawsuits here and He goes back to Peter's

graduate class and the schnauz is wondering where

Peter is and Anna's just sitting there like,

uh, pretty sure there's a good reason. I mean,

everyone's just kind of wondering where the hell

Peter is. And wow, I love that next shot of Otto

sitting there in his command chair and the cables

go out. It's like, you know, why don't you just

have an evil black cat in your lap? He can sit

there stroking it. Start quoting Dr. No, Mr.

Bond, I expect you to die. because that's such

a super villain shot right there it is i don't

know actually well it's just and it's i love

the spider island spider man's headquarters it's

like yeah i mean it's not like he's ever really

had a head the closest thing spider man's ever

had to a secret base before is when Mary this

is like back in the 90s during the Clone Saga

and the less said about that particular era the

better. Spider -Man and Mary Jane had like a

three -story brownstone where the top level was

a photo lab slash like science lab for Peter

that had a hidden closet where he stored all

his spider junk and his skylight that he could

crawl out of. For a second there I thought you

were gonna say a three -story brothel. No, no,

no, well, I'm sure that'll happen in some sort

of fan fiction But I mean that that was basically

he had that brownstone was like the spider cave

for lack of a better term and now he's got well

what amounts to Avengers Island gone spider -man,

so I Just I love the fact that it's such he's

being a superhero in a super villain way and

I love that And then we go back to the goblin

underground where goblins doing all kinds of

gobliny things And the one of the minions mentions

out loud or two minions are talking I thought

the goblin protocols only work for our guys and

the guy was like nah anybody wearing a goblin

mask or the tattoo you know is covered and the

other minion turns out to be Norman Osborn, so

But in order to prevent spider -man from finding

his hack to the system he shuts it down which

basically means the hobgoblin is sol Yeah, yeah

pretty much And then we I Don't know how I like

these these scene jumps speak like I don't mind

a scene jump every couple of pages but like You

know, okay, you've got... Let me look here, you've

got one, two... You've got one, you've got, like,

almost one entire scene. You've got the whole

crime scene, or the whole Spider -Man stuff.

And then it goes to MJ. And then it goes back

to, because she's calling him, so technically

the page where, you know, her boob is popping

out, and the page where he's sitting in his Dr.

Claw chair, that's basically one scene to me.

And then you've got... the goblin underground

and then immediately after that we go to empire

universe i don't know if i like this whole i

don't mind like one or two pages then a scene

jump but one page and then a scene that's a little

too much for me yeah it's not necessarily the

writing isn't exactly stellar with this issue

but it probably was necessary i would say just

to catch up because i mean these elements haven't

come into play for at least the last four or

five issues You know, because you had the three

-issue no escape, you had a blind eye, and now

here, you know, it's about time we kind of caught

up with the, you know, all these aspects of Otto's

world. So this also raises the question, and

I think it's at the end of this issue, where

he's like, hmm, I wonder if I can just get rid

of Peter Parker altogether and just be Spider

-Man full -time. Well, yeah, this is, well...

every hero probably has that aspect I mean they

certainly played with that in Batman for many

years where you know Bruce Wayne didn't really

see the point of being Bruce Wayne if he's just

wants to be Batman so yeah that's true yeah but

and I love what the Empire State thing I love

the fact that you know Peter maybe not so much

with Horizon has caught up but he's caught up

with you know his schooling and apparently he's

still taking his tests he's working on his doctorate

and you know sucks up to the schnoz and You know

when he goes off with Anna and they're gonna

talk and then he's like I Love and is like I

care about our future Peter your future and he's

like you said our future and she's like shut

up Yeah, just that and and I wish they would

do they I wish they have would have done not

necessarily a lot more But they haven't had an

well, and I like the idea that Otto while he

is being a super dick Still is trying to build

a life for himself and the fact that you know,

it's you know Anna's like a pretty cool character

and in all respects and in the fact that they

they're trying to set up this relationship with

him and Anna and they just haven't really looked

at that in a while and I Probably may not look

at it again. I mean, I know she's gonna run into

spider -man 2099 He's gonna show up soon in the

series, you know, we'll see what happens Yeah,

you know I do love that entire exchange with

them I'm still not over the fact that she's one

of the little people Yeah, yeah, it's just a

logistic things people on my end because it's

like I just If a quote -unquote relationship

happens between the two of them first of all

He's older than dirt you and second of all he's

twice her height So but it's not it's not taking

me out of the issue. Like you said, it's the

writing It's you know, I really I very much enjoy

their their back and forth. So yeah Yeah, but

I mean, of course, we got to get back to Hobgoblin

who's taken to robbing a money mart store and

then wait is according to these this page here

Hobgoblin and Phil are two different people,

so that means the Hobgoblin is a robot? How does

that work? No, Hobgoblin's always been Phil.

Right, but Phil is standing there on the... No,

that's Ty Stone. Oh, see, that's when I had a

problem with this issue. I kept getting the two

of them confused because they so look alike.

I mean, they could be friggin' twin brothers.

But no, yeah, no, I could see that. But yeah,

I love the fact that Ty, you know, he's hacked,

he's worked on the Goblin's tech hall, right?

Because you see Spider -Man swing in and he's

like, how have you been doing this? How have

you been avoiding me? Kick to the head. And then

they go to the next fight where he's like, what?

He's like basically thrashing Hobgoblin. Hobgoblin

pulls out his plasma sword, which promptly fizzles

out like a bad firecracker. Yeah, I gotta say

something about this page, though. I'm not sure

I like the giant spider on Spidey's back. Oh,

the backpack? Yeah, that's... Oh, that's supposed

to be a backpack? Oh my god. Well, it stores

the legs. And I would like to point out something,

and this kind of comes from a Spider -Man meme.

The spider on my back only has six legs. I'm

living a lie. No one writes. You know, but yeah,

it's like you see it as... He's just like, what

are you doing? And basically, he's not even being

a superhero right now. Otto is just being an

angry nerd. How did you screw up my shit? How?

Smack, smack, smack. Yeah, pretty much. You see

what I mean about the whole Spider -Man fighting

in daylight, right? Oh yeah, no, it's just...

The art, it pops way more than what he does when

he's doing stealth missions. Well yeah, and again,

it's... Black is the new blue, or however the

Tim Gunn would say it, but... But yeah, no, I

love that, especially when you contrast them

against the next page where, as I was saying,

talk, slash, you know, and yeah, it's just with

the proper background, it just pops so much more

versus the standard red and blue. So it's like,

tell me how you circumvented my feats and I shall

consider sparing you. And Goblin's like, eh,

nuts to that. You know, and he takes off and

he finds like, you know, the slash again. goes

back to the whole Spider -Man like with his new

tech hat his nano tracers is been injected into

Hobgoblin because he finds like his chainmail

in his wings and he follows him and it goes back

to the Daily Bugle and he goes to Robbie and

he's trying to get more money because he's got

to pay off the old Hobgoblin and he's basically

losing his mind and that's when uh Spider -Man

does the biggest dick move, or Otto does the

biggest dick move he has yet to perpetrate in

this series. This is the best move. Oh, it's

a dick move, but it's the best thing ever. And

I love the fact that he outs Hobgoblin. You know,

he literally hacks Times Square, posts his picture

with an 1 -800 number. He's got a 1 -800 number,

that's awesome! Just yeah, he's like if you see

this man call 1 -800 -555 Spidey And you just

see everyone's looking at Phil and he's like

son of a bitch And of course it's to be continued

in issue number 16 And I said good I just say

as far as cliffhangers go. This is a pretty darn

cool cliffhanger. It is very much so So but yeah,

it's just I and When we get to number six the

issue 16 then it is so to quote. What is it?

What's the one that John to Turo swingers, it's

so money number 16. Yeah Yeah, it is So we're

gonna take a quick ad break and we'll come back

after this Hello, pop culture connoisseurs. Do

you gain a dark sense of peace when the guilty

are punished by a violent vigilante? If so, maybe

you should get some therapy, and then subscribe

to Punisher Body Count, the net's best podcast

concerning all things Frank Castle. I'm Dane

Lamont, and my co -host Jake Williams and I cover

the good, the bad, and the hilarious on The Punisher

of comics, movies, and news. Do you like chummy

co -host banter? We got that. No, you need to

fucking pay attention to the fucking movie. You

want kick -ass guest interviews? How about Mike

Barron and Tom Jane? No, I like a little bit

of grit in my cigar. You want carefully considered

in -depth analysis? I mean, yeah, just one best

picture at the Oscars yesterday. I mean, it's

no Terminator. Good luck with that. Punish your

body count twice a month on GeekCast Radio We

are back here on the pull bag and before JT gives

us the skin on what's going on in the other spider

books Let's go ahead and rank these zero to five

stars for 12 13 14 and 15 For number 12 being

the Was it the end of well the 12 was the mid

chapter of no escape. Yeah. Yeah part two of

no escape I'd give it a three out of five. I

enjoyed it. But What about you? I can't give

it a three and a half almost the four same reasons

like it's it's a good middle chapter and like

I said my biggest nitpick was just the The way

chemically was drawing the lizard. So but yeah,

I'd give it a solid three and a half Number 13

that final chapter I give it a solid four almost

a five Yeah, I'm gonna give 13 a four as well

it was good it was interesting it was a nice

little ending chapter With 14 I'm gonna give

it a five. I really really enjoyed it as a one

-shot as a you know blind man's eye I Really

did enjoy that. I thought that was a great way.

Oh, yeah To further along OX Spidey in his new

quest of becoming superior, enjoyed that. As

far as the first, what about you for 14? 14,

yeah, I'd give it a five. It's a great single

issue. It's a filler, but it's a filler with

purpose. And it's a filler with great lines.

Oh yeah. I still like that. Comfortable TV, video

games, all you can eat, snap. Snap. You know.

And it's like son, so I don't hurt them. Don't

hurt them. I'll do anything snap and 15 straight

up a five Yeah, yeah 15 gets a five from me.

I cannot wait to read 16 the second part to that

story. It's so good Do we know how long? The

next arc is gonna be because the next arc starts

in 17 is that 17 through 19 or is it 17 20? According

to what I've seen in previews, it's 17 through

19 is Superior Spider -Man teaming up or meeting

Spider -Man 2099. Okay. So, you know, that'll

be interesting when we get to talk about that

because, I mean, we could even, I would suggest

in the future on the pull bag, we need to do

like a favorite alternate realities or something

in comic books. you know just because the marvel

2099 stuff was pretty cool even though it came

out of the whole you know extreme cyberpunk 90s

aesthetic so but yeah no uh like i said straight

up five on 15 and 16 like i said is so money

when you see what happens in there it you're

gonna plot all right so we uh... did you see

is gonna basically briefly very briefly a sense

of what's going on in the other spider books

except superior carnage because he and i will

eventually once all five issues of that many

serious come out here i will eventually cover

those five issues in one episode of the bull

bag in the future uh... so what's going on with

the other first of all let people know for those

that don't know what the other titles are for

superior Well, in the greater, you know, Spider

-Family comics, we also have, you know, Superior

Carnage, we'll talk about later. There's some

of the, you know, the Nightwing books to Spider

-Man's Batman. There's Morbius, The Living Vampire,

the current Venom series, and Scarlet Spider,

which, you know, we'll probably get to talk to

some of those eventually. But the two I'm going

to mention briefly is Superior Foes of Spider

-Man. which is a mini -series basically dealing

with the five -person version of Sinister Six

that we saw in the very first issue of Superior.

It's just basically Boomerang gets out of prison

after being acquitted and it has nothing to do

with the supervillain. It has to do with him

being a former baseball player. He was a pitcher

who got... booted under, I forget the exact circumstances,

but he's acquitted, he's let out, he meets back

up with the other members of the Sinister Five,

and they basically plot a heist, basically. It's

kind of a heist comic. Just basically, I would

recommend you picking it up, Mike, because I

think you would like the kind of Ocean's Eleven

vibe that they have in it. They basically have

to steal the head of Silvermane, who is this

Spider -Man villain who is like an aging mobster

who became a cyborg and apparently his head still

got information or something because they haven't

actually gone after the head yet. And there's...

Sorry? They haven't gone after the head yet.

Oh god, I walked into that one. Sounds so wrong.

It does, doesn't it? So basically, Silvermane

is Marvel Universe's answer to... hold Mr. Freeze

when he got his head lobbed off and attached

to a spider? Pretty much. So they got that, and

the other title is they've replaced the Avenging

Spider -Man, which was the new version of Marvel

Team Up with Spider -Man. They've brought out

Superior Spider -Man Team Up. The first issue

was written by Chris Yost, Pencils by David Lopez.

is basically Spider -Man going around New York

City and punching a whole bunch of other Marvel

heroes in the head. And it goes to Captain America

and the Avengers, and they're looking over, you

know, he thrashed Wolverine a while back. He

almost killed, you know, killed Massacre. He

beat up Screwball and Jester. You know, we thought

he was a Skrull, but it turns out he's not, but

he's on probation because of his activities.

They basically think he's gone full -on Black

Hat, so they got to take Spider -Man down. And

it turns out that Spider -Man is beating up all

these heroes because there's this villain named

Carrion who's basically a genetic virus that

possesses people and he has the ability to instantly,

he touches you, you turn to dust. And he possesses

Hyperion who's like this Marvel Universe analog

to Superman, you know, he saves the day. And

then Captain America is still like, you know,

you're on probation, right? and he's like I owe

you an apology I shouldn't have doubted you about

your probation spider -man's like probation oh

you were serious about that that's cute and then

he goes back to his hidden headquarters underneath

battery park and you see he's got you know the

other five he's got all these members of the

former sinister six you know he's basically basically

he's gonna turn him into that the next issue

Quickly here as soon as I can bring this up is

part one of a crossover with scarlet spider Where

the villain the jackal is, you know kind of pitting

them against each other Suffice and here's the

jackal very quickly. He was called peers caught

biology professor in college Who was obsessed

with Gwen Stacy went mad after she died became

a super villain and got obsessed with cloning

spider -man Oh geez and again, just look up The

jackal spider -man villains on the wiki read
