Talking in Circles
Avengers: Age of Ultron Review

About this Episode
Hi, this is Kyle Higgins and you're listening
to the Geek Patch Radio Network. You are now
on the inside of what I like to call the circle
of trust. We are all connected in a great circle
of life. You know something Bert? What? I think
you and I are going in circles. It feels like
we're going in circles. The Circle is now complete.
When I left you, I was but the learning. Now
I am the master. Because it's a circle. Yeah,
we heard about the circle. Yeah, that's what
the million would change. Hi, this is Chuck.
This is Greg. And this is Dan, and we are Talking
of Circles, brought to you by the Geekcast Radio
Network. The podcast that has no strings. I say
that today because we will be reviewing one of
the biggest movies of the year, actually probably
going to be ever as we get into the movie we've
been long anticipating, Avengers Age of Ultron.
We'll be talking great deals about that and if
you listen to our Daredevil episode we'll do
something similar to that where we'll have a
special spoiler free section and then we'll save
all the fun spoiler -ific stuff for the end.
But before we get to all that, how's the week
been going for you guys? Probably better than
yours down in Baltimore there. I Mean Orioles
lost today, but it wasn't that I mean, you know,
we'll get over it. I think Well, they they won
the game in front of the invisible fans Yeah,
it was like they were playing at the Marlin Stadium.
I Like the guy running around pretending to sign
fake autographs and stuff that was funny. Yeah.
Yeah, that was great Yeah, my week was pretty
boring. I did kind of have I got something funny
in the mail I got this random thing that was
like an advertisement card from Clorox. It was
for a special Clorox product called Clorox urine
remover. They're trying to tell you something
and I'm like, why are you sending me this? I'm
a 30 year old guy. Like I don't like I guess
they assume that we all have bad aim. I don't
know I just thought that was kind of weird that
they singled me out like that, but We know we
know we know it's okay, maybe there's some like,
you know cameras set up in the bathroom or something
I didn't know it was that big of a problem where
you have to make a special Clerox that is just
for urine. Yeah, yeah. Needless to say, so I
bought it and gave it yesterday. That works great.
Greg, how's your week been going? Boring, as
per usual, but hey, what you gonna do? It's better
than... than Baltimore. But in Baltimore, that
should be today's podcast. But didn't you get
your Marvel mail kit in the mail or whatever
they call it? Yes, I did get that in the mail.
I got not urine stuff in the mail. It was pretty
cool. I got the two weaker parts of the box where
they gave you a pin that had cap on it. And it
said, I think it said collector core or something
on it, which like, okay, I'm not into pins. So
whatever pins, not pens, by the way. And then
there was also a patch with Ultron on it that
was pretty cool, but I don't put patches on anything.
So that was kind of pointless for me. But then
they had the Hulkbuster Iron Man, which was the
coolest thing in the package. He is quite hefty
and large, but he is definitely the best part
of the box. Probably the best part of the movie
too, the Hulkbuster Iron Man. Is that a pop vinyl
figure, Greg? Yes, that is a pop vinyl figure.
And then Funko is also coming out with these
things called Dorbs. And they're like smaller,
supposed to be cutesier type of vinyl figure.
And it was an Ultron. He's kind of cool. He's
kind of tiny. I'm wondering how much they're
going to sell them for when they actually go
to market with Dorbs. The packaging, though,
is like a huge box for the small little guy inside.
So like, I never understood that with packaging.
But then the second best item was a shirt that
I wore to the movie, which had a kind of a box,
the old school boxing poster motif to it with
I had the Captain America version. There was
four different versions. I had the Captain America
version where it was Captain America versus Ultron.
No strings matched. And that shirt was pretty
cool. And I wore that to the premiere of Age
of Ultron, which I don't normally do. I don't
like wearing the shirts of the things that I'm
going to to the things. Like I won't go to a
Foo Fighters concert and wear a Foo Fighters
t -shirt. It just feels weird to me for some
reason. How do you know you're at the right event?
I guess so if I'm really really really stupid
that night for whatever reason. You just looked
down like where was I? That probably would have
been good when I went to the brew fest Did you
guys have anyone cosplay at your show at your
showing and he put you dressed up at all? Oh,
yeah Saw a couple people I saw one guy dressed
up as spider -man and I wanted to point out and
be like you are not in this movie Like what are
you doing? I predicted that on the last podcast
and then There was a I didn't see it personally,
but one of my friends that was with me I guess
was in the bathroom and he saw I think it was
Nick Fury and Thor in the bathroom. I was in
the bathroom at the same time as all of your
friends, totally not gay, and I did not see any
of them. I must have been focused on the task
at hand. I think he went before you, but he was
standing right next to Thor, and I said, you
should have looked over and said, nice hammer.
He thought that was funny that the ironic thing
is he's not many enough to lift it. So he has
to sit down He's not worthy maybe he needs an
elevator Good call, uh, yeah, I only had two
people Cosplay mine. I was like an 830 showing
and it was like then there was like four showings
at the time There's like an IMAX 3d other 3d
and then I went to the regular one. So we didn't
actually wasn't sold out But I had someone dressed
up as Thor, and it was actually a pretty solid
costume, and it was some girl dressed up as Quicksilver.
And I was at the concession stand there in front
of me. And after they walk away, the cashiers
are trying to talk about who that person was.
They're like, I think it's like Female Flash
or Lightning Girl. I'm like, I want to correct
them, but there's no way I can do that without
not looking like a dork. So I'm just going to
have to let it go. No. I'll have you know very
much that it's Quicksilver. You put your glasses
on and you're like Nice jacket you like that's
really quick silver. I'm not sure why you didn't
understand that. Yeah But besides the whole yeah
the whole Avengers thing for those that don't
know I do reside in Baltimore and if you don't
want to go in Baltimore I guess you don't own
a television or a newspaper. Maybe I don't know
it's kind of crazy, but it's been an it's been
an interesting week It's uh, it was crazy early
in the week on Tuesday I had to we had to go
down to mercy and it was like or eight and I
got out around like ten ish like after the curfew
was enacted and uh, It was so weird like walking
out in the streets and it was like no one there
It's like kind of it's like reminded me of like
28 days later and that scene was like walking
on the streets and it's like nothing It was just
it was really odd Uh, but you know, none of the
stuff has been in really my area, but it's been
it's been kind of It's been an eventful week
to say the least. So what about your job? Have
you had to deal with it while going? To work
or anything. No, I, uh, I work in like Columbia,
which is a completely different city. And I take
the subway, which goes around the city though.
My company does have an office in downtown and
they've been closed. They closed for a couple
of days. They went on what's called liberal liberal
leave, which is, uh, you can basically meaning
you don't have to show up. You just have to work
from home. So, okay. But, uh, yeah. I know people
who are like currently in school and if you're
in school and you're driving around you get like
a put a thing in your window in your car window
No, it's meaning like you have the authority
to be driving at night since you're going to
class But besides that, it was a tough decision,
right, this past week, because going to the Avengers
and watching the NFL draft, like two things I
really look forward to. I chose the Avengers,
but I did catch up a little bit with it. And
I'm kind of glad I chose the Avengers, because
it was just kind of by the book for the most
part, because there were some rumors of trading.
Like, you know, the Eagles were rumored to be
trading to try to get up Marriota, and they never
did. Rumors that the Cleveland was trying to
trade and you pick up Marriott a tube because
Cleveland is where quarterbacks go to die So
they needed another one There was rumors that
Cleveland was gonna trade their whole team for
somebody anybody I was curious how you thought
your your dolphins did it in the trade by the
time? This is recorded the first three rounds
have have gone I don't know how many now to pick
up how many picks the Dolphins have but you've
been happy to check it Yeah, I'm pretty happy
with so far. I really like the guy that they
got the first round. They'd 14th pick. They've
got a Devante Parker out of Louisville the wide
receiver I was really happy with that pick because
we completely overhauled our right receiving
core this year and we we dumped three of our
old receivers and We acquired three more now
and somehow our receiving core is even better
than it was before so now they all they look
like geniuses now, so But I really really like
this guy. He's like six three, you know goes
up for the ball Strong guys good runner after
the catch and everything. So pretty excited about
him And then they picked up a I think they got
a defensive tackle in the second round which
was tonight So and then they don't they don't
pick for a while. I don't think they have a third
round pick but Nice. Yeah, the judge is the judge
of the ninth pick. I was kind of hoping that
like they get some they got an offensive lineman
eric uh flowers from miami which they need they
need on the offensive lineman but i was kind
of hoping amari cooper would be available but
the raiders had to draft him because they need
to ruin the life of another wide receiver uh
they couldn't hold off on doing that but uh you
know it's not a you know not the most uh a glamorous
pick but they definitely need a better offensive
line so and they drafted though i'm really happy
with their second round they traded up and got
the first round at pick of the second round and
got a Lynn and Collins which who I thought was
gonna go in the first round but He stayed on
the board, which was great. So you guys should
have got Odell Beckham's like half brother or
whatever he was Foster brother or whatever Dorial
green Beckham or something interesting Greg,
I don't know if you did you pay attention at
all to the draft if not that we can I didn't
pay attention because I don't watch the college
football, so I have no idea who's getting what
if that's a good choice or not. So you like the
Jets, so that's good. The Jets are terrible.
I do not like the Jets. But I guess one question
I had for you, Chuck, and then we can move on.
Looking at the top two picks, you have Winston
and you have Marriota. Do you have a prediction
on who you feel who's going to have the better
NFL career? Yeah, I definitely think Mariotta
I wasn't too crazy about either one of these
guys, but I like Mariotta's character a lot better
and I think he might be set up to succeed a little
bit better where he's at but Winston I just had
my doubts like obviously there's some character
issues there with the whole you know stealing
crabs and Jumping on tables and screaming at
people and yeah, not he stole the food Greg not
the you know, he didn't Yeah, not that I was
like, why do we want to like encourage getting
crabs? Like who wants to get a venereal disease?
Well, yeah, no one has to steal them cuz you
you know, you can't give them away. So But yeah,
he actually stole crab legs from a grocery store
last year When I worked at a grocery store, I
heard a story once of some lady in the seafood
department, well not a customer in the seafood
department was stuffing lobster tails down their
pants. Nice. That seems a little intense. Oh
yeah. the crab legs would have been better because
then whoever busted her it just would have been
hilarious and apparently it was a teacher at
a local high school as well nice nice but but
yeah uh check i have to kind of agree with you
like i don't know i don't i'm not a fan of james
winston he's certainly talented but he seems
kind of like a doofus when you're a quarterback
there's so much put on your shoulders and you
got so much pressure on you especially in a number
one pick pick and plus he's gone to tampa which
is not a great location for anyone really i mean
they They'll have good runs here and there I
mean the what the only good run was when they
had the notorious like the warren sap era when
they had that great defense I think mariotta
too it has his own questions like he doesn't
seem like the most accurate quarterback in the
world like he seems he's kind of the prototypical
like college quarterback that has whose Whose
athletic ability kind of allows him to get away
with a few things which I don't think will happen
in the nfl, but Think in the right system and
I don't know Tennessee. I don't know if that's
the right system. I think he I think for him
I bet you he really wish he was picked up by
Eagles or a Team he felt like would actually
use him appropriately But yeah, absolutely. We'll
see how it goes. We'll see how it goes But yeah,
it's like it's funny trying to explain to someone
who's not in the football over like who? You
know doesn't follow it like why you would watch
the nfl draft because you can't do it without
seeming like a crazy person It's like it's like
so they don't play any no, they don't play games
Uh, you know, they just they're just picking
names You had to be a hardcore fan to understand
I guess. Yeah. Yeah, it's a little weird speaking
of hardcore fans Hardcore fans were revolting
last week. This week's a celebration with adventures,
but last week there was well, I guess maybe Depending
on your fandom. Some people are celebrating some
people revolting, but we got our first image
of what the Joker will be looking like in the
Suicide Squad film, at least one image of what
he'll be looking like with Jared Leto in his
new role. And there's been a lot of debate about
this photo if you have not seen it. I doubt you
listened to this podcast because it was all over
the realm of geekdom. It doesn't have the iconic
white face, but that just could be for this one
photo. It does have the short green hair with
Infamous tattoos all over his body and like the
teeth from Josh from the James Bond movie from
the 1970s on in his mouth, but uh I'm curious
to hear what you guys thought of this new look
of Joker for at least for this photo Yeah, I've
already seen Marilyn Manson. I'm good. I lived
through it once. I don't need to see it again
He does he does have that like Marilyn Manson
like drugged out look to him a little bit Yeah,
I'm not impressed. I think they lobbed it over
the plate. Chuck, what were your initial impressions?
I just kind of like I clicked out and I was like,
oh, let's see what this and I was like, oh, that
sucks. Well, like, well, maybe next time. Like
I was disappointed, but I was kind of like I
kind of expected it, I guess, because like at
this point, everyone is trying to be so like.
I'm just trying to be so new age and so fresh
with stuff. It's just to the point where it's
almost annoying now because it's just Stuff gets
pulled out of left field and you're like, what
is that? Like I don't know. Yeah Yeah, it's just
trying to trying to modernize like all these
characters and though this one doesn't seem like
very modern It seems like you said like Marilyn
Manson circuit like late 1990s. Oh, yeah, so
I I don't know like I didn't hate it as much
as a lot of people I get like the complaints
like the one thing that I took out of it that
seemed rather Ridiculous was the damage tattoo
on his forehead. I'm like that seems kind of
Obsessive obsessive and doesn't seem like the
Joker cuz I feel like the Joker wouldn't I don't
know it seems like he would Not admit to that
like I don't know like it seems like he wouldn't
be someone who self prescribes himself as as
damaged he's you know some of the tattoos i thought
was okay like i didn't mind the one on his arm
that was like of the smiling face or something
like that like that seemed fine to me the ha
ha ha ones were a little much you know a little
much kind of seemed like a wrestling character
a little bit a tad though i i will say like i
think a good a good actor can can make it work
and i think jarrett little's from alisa i saw
is a good actor i don't know if they're official
photos but there are photos that are supposed
to show him like Without the tattoos or like
with more covered up and more of like the white
face which look a lot better So, I don't know
how that's how that's all gonna work. So I don't
think it's a total failure I do think though
that it it's not the direction that I would have
particularly chosen and I think it's kind of
a sign that DC is not Like they're just making
a lot of decisions where i'm like, I don't I
don't know like i'm like it does. I don't know
if it's gonna work but um I'd love to see them
go with like a Greg Capullo Batman Or Joker.
I mean look what kind of is that the one with
the face cut off or whatever? Well, not the face
cut off part, but a little bit more the newer
version That he's in now He looks a little bit
more like the old -school Joker that we know
But he's got his hair kind of cropped on the
side really close or even like shaved off where
it's just the top part and it's kind of uh pushed
back and greased down and he's he's kind of back
into he's wearing a little bit more of a um a
regular type of suit not really uh bombastic
with the colors or anything but just it's not
over the top at all i think it does it makes
you focus more on the crazier parts of him Yeah,
yeah, I kind of like my first impression after
seeing it was like I think that would work better
for like the Riddler Than it would for the Joker.
I don't know Maybe not maybe I could be wrong.
I just I guess I'm wondering like why when I
showed this to my wife She's like why are they
doing the Joker like like why would they do that?
Like they kind of already perfected the Joker
where I go again, but Did you guys hear the rumor
that uh Batman could possibly show up in the
Suicide Squad movie. I heard I did that like
Van Affleck showed up on set one day or something
like that Yeah, like I didn't look too much into
it, but I just kind of saw it and took it with
a grain of salt, but Well, yeah, I mean I think
they're gonna try to put Batman and he's gonna
be like the agent Coulson of all the DC movies
He's gonna show up in each one Which actually
wouldn't be the the worst idea if done right
it could actually kind of work but uh anything
else before we take a quick break yep i think
i'm good all righty so let's take a break here
and when we come back we'll be talking about
the big enchilada as we get into age of ultron
so we'll see in a bit Hey, guys, this is JD from
the In Session Film Podcast. Every week on our
show, you can join my co -host, Brendan and I,
as we review the latest films that's out in theaters.
It also inspires us to discuss a top three list
of some sort. And we have a lot of other fun
movie discussions as well. It's always a blast.
And we also have a show on Fridays called our
Extra Film Podcast. This is a show that gives
us the space to talk about the latest Indies
and art films and other classics that we normally
just don't get to talk. about on our main show.
You can find our podcast on iTunes, Stitcher
Radio, SoundCloud, TuneIn Radio, Player FM, and
more. In fact, you can just see everything about
us, including our social medias at InSessionFilm
.com. So join us every week. We'd absolutely
love to have you. designed to save the world.
People would look to the sky and see hope. I'll
take that from them first. There's only one path
to peace. Their extinction. I tried to create
a suit of armor around the world, but I created
something terrible. Artificial intelligence.
It's called the Ultron program. I'm sick of watching
people pay for our mistakes. Isn't why we fight
so we can end the fight and go home? Well, you
amazingly failed. Nothing but our wit and our
will save the world. So stand and fight. No way
we all get through this. I got no plans tomorrow
night. I'm always picking up after you boys.
We can tear them apart. From the inside. All
right, and welcome back. And like I mentioned,
we're gonna be getting into the age of Ultron,
and what we'll be doing is we'll be talking about
our general thoughts. So you haven't seen the
film. Thank you for that one person in Macra
who was not seen age of Ultron because I think
it's making what a trillion dollars a day at
this point But if you've not seen it, don't worry
What I'll be doing is after we end the show There'll
be a little bit of the end theme song and then
if you keep listening we'll get into the spoiler
section where we get into more the juicy details
and All the fun Easter eggs and stuff like that
that might actually spoil for those who have
not seen it. So as we focus into more of our
general thoughts, I guess Chuck, we will start
with you here. We've been talking about this
movie for quite a bit. We went over the trailers.
We've had all of our theories about what could
happen. You know, if this is going to be as good
as the other Avengers movies. A lot of anticipation,
a lot of build up. You know, we've been riding
a high for Marvel films. We've gotten Guardians
of the Galaxy. Winter Soldier, Daredevil. Considering
all that, a lot of pressure was put on Age of
Ultron. After you walked out of the theater,
what were your initial impressions? My initial
impressions were sort of mixed in a way. I was
really psyched about certain things. I loved
a lot of things in the movie. There were certain
things that stuck out to me that I couldn't quite
get over at the time, which is why... I want
to go back and watch it a second time. I haven't
gotten to yet, but I do plan on doing that maybe
later this weekend or next week or something.
But, um, I really, there's a lot of things I
liked. Like, like I mentioned, I thought it was
like paced out. Well, I thought like they mixed
the action and like the the other stuff very
well like the development of the team and stuff
like I heard someone phrase it like team building
exercises almost like sort of in between the
action but it was kind of cool like they you
know would have these intense action sequences
and then they would kind of go into something
that was a little bit slower but would kind of
build the plot a little bit and then jump back
into some more action. And I thought that was
mixed in pretty well instead of having like a
slow build and then one huge action scene. Like
I kind of prefer it this way. I like the way
they did that. I like a lot of the new characters.
I like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. I like
the sort of the change that they underwent, the
story arc for those two characters. I really
like that. And I was really surprised by those
two actors, they did a lot better than I kind
of thought they would. Kind of creepy at times,
to be honest, like they seemed a little bit too
close for a brother and sister maybe, but maybe
that carried over from Godzilla because those
two played a husband and wife in that movie,
so I don't know. But I did like those two a lot.
Actually, that was pretty cool. And I enjoyed
sort of getting to know Hawkeye better. Each
each Avenger sort of got their time to shine
in this movie, but you start seeing some other
things about Hawkeye that we didn't realize and
So the reason they kind of did that too is because
he's not getting his own solo movie like some
of the others so These movies sort of give them
a chance to flesh him out a little bit more and
they they took advantage of that And they did
a pretty good job. I enjoyed it and I kind of
sort of made me like the character of Hawkeye
even more So that was really cool to see there's
a lot of other good things I liked about but
I'll just I'll save some for you guys, but I'll
just quickly mention it definitely had some like
plot holes in my opinion There were some things
that I didn't like I I liked Ultron for the most
part. I thought he was really cool I thought
spader was pretty awesome as his voice I did
kind of have a problem with I guess they sort
of Gave him like a sarcasm like a sense of humor
That didn't really work too well for me. I know
we could get into that more later and Sort of
why why he has that and stuff, but I I thought
they just they could have done it better Seemed
to like make him less intimidating less menacing
sort of as the evil evil robot should be I mean
I realized what they were trying to go for, which
like I said, we'll get into later, but I think
they could have done it another way and made
them work a little bit better. But just some
smaller things about his evil plan and stuff,
which we can't get into with the spoilers. But
overall, I really enjoyed the movie, though.
Greg, what were your initial impressions? I think
I'd go a little bit opposite of Chuck with how
Ultron was portrayed. I thought it was kind of
refreshing there was plot holes and things that
really didn't match up for me I'm not sure if
that's because I just missed some lines of dialogue
or if I'm just an idiot or what. But yes, I had
trouble with some of that kind of stuff. I did
enjoy a lot more attention on Hawkeye and I thought
they really brought the more street level characters
to life in this one. I think they did a lot more
with the street level characters, which I kind
of enjoyed. One of my favorite characters from
comics is Vision. I thought they did a pretty
decent job with Vision. I liked his attitude
and I wish there was more of him fighting. I
think we saw a lot of his fighting. I thought
his power set was kind of a mystery, and so was
Scarlet Witch's, but they kind of poked fun at
that a little bit at one point in the movie itself.
She just kind of does whatever. She does a lot
of weird shit or whatever they said exactly.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It's tough to compete
with the first movie, I think. I'm not quite
sure if it pulled it off. They started off with
the whole one -shot action scenario, which I
thought was pretty awesome. And they kept having
a bunch of those, which are kind of great. But
I felt like it was just too much. And then you
didn't have the great scene of them all coming.
Together for the first time that was only be
achieved once and they did that in the first
movies So it didn't have that quite that feel
so I feel bad Judging it as harshly as I could
But overall it was still a great movie I think
I don't think it was quite as good as the first
one, but I don't think it can be as good as the
first one that it would Yeah, it's it's definitely
challenging because it's you know there's nothing
like that your first time as I say but I would
say like my initial impression walking out maybe
this will come off as more harsh than I and I
intended to but it was a disappointment and that's
not necessarily because it wasn't as good as
the first Avengers looking back at like everything
Marvel has done since the Avengers I felt like
it didn't even hit those levels for me personally
like I like Winter Soldier a lot more like Guardians
a lot more Like Daredevil series a lot more and
you know I did I did enjoy it like the one word
that kind of comes to my mind when I Was watching
it was a mess like it was a mess because there
was a lot going on. It was a fun mess It was
an enjoyable mess. Mm -hmm. It was somewhat of
a controlled mess Like there were a lot of moving
pieces a lot of little So plots like you know
each character had their own little story But
it was it was kind of a little bit of a mess
in that end it kind of reminded me of like when
you want reading like an event comic and You
just stick with the major event storyline like
the the one that's like the the title book of
that story and You don't read any of the side
story. So everything kind of seems a little bit
rushed like there seems like to be story developments
that Could use a little bit more time, but you
don't get it and you're okay That must be in
the side that must be in a side issue or something
like that that kind of kind of the thing I got
because there are little things with like the
Hulk and you know Bruce Banner and Scarlet Witch
they're not Scarlet Witch but a black black widow
and We know Hawkeye, which I did like I agree.
I liked I liked how he I liked him in this movie
a lot more. I felt like he felt more part of
the team. I liked how they played on that aspect
of does he really belong with all these people.
I did like how the action set pieces were varied.
The first one was, you know, you know, sitting
in snow. Completely opposite of what we've seen
them so far, you know in the city landscape more
in the rural woods And I think that that was
cool little little touches here and there like
not to getting anything away but a specific moment
where Cap and Thor team up which I thought that
was a nice little touch and you know, we didn't
does have that ability to get those little like
uh, let's say gimmicks with the little gags here
and there that are that are really great, but
In a truck you kind of mentioned already though
and the one thing I think That bugs me sometimes
with Whedon the guy he knows how to write good
team dynamic like he knows how to do that but
on occasion he can just add a little more sense
of humor a little bit more quips in like witty
remarks and he really needs to at times I feel
like he overloads those things and I think he
took out he took a lot of those moments that
people loved in the first Avengers and tried
to Regurgitate them here and they weren't as
effective like in the green zucchini Yeah That
made me cringe But I mean I did have a lot of
fun with it I did overall enjoy it I just to
me like looking we can get into other you can
kind of get it look more of a retrospective later,
but I didn't have that Like a joyous experience.
I was hoping for and like you guys mentioned
it could be just because you're comparing it
to the first film Which I just remember being
one of the most fun times I've ever had at them
at the movies like the crowd was Chatting clapping
cheering and I know do you guys have a lot of
like fan or interaction in your in your? In your
screening this time around Well, it's it's a
small town kind of vibe here in Scranton with
the smaller theater So yeah, I don't think we
really got that much I got a little bit this
time like there is a specific moment near the
end where you think all is lost and then suddenly
You know as comic book movies often are You know
something happens and there is a big uproar there
like a lot of you know a lot of laughter but
I just not that like overall just joyous feeling
from the last one, but yeah, so So kind of regarding
the action of the film like how did you guys
like felt that was handled? And you don't have
to get in specifics of it spoiler spoiler ish
But what moments do you feel you know wore those
standouts for you that did give you? That phone
that you're hoping for anything kind of come
to mind For me, I think one of the one of my
favorite parts of this movie was watching cap
lead the team nice and it's Like honestly, like
I walked out of the theater and this is one of
the things that stuck out On the positive side
for me. I'm like it's it's truly a privilege
to watch him work as the leader of the Avengers
like You know, here's a guy that's like sort
of If you want to talk about strength and power
he's like he's outclassed by Hulk and Thor obviously
even Iron Man and stuff like that so but you
have a guy that has like sort of a beautiful
mind when it comes to like Tactics when it comes
to leading people placing people where they should
be in order to gain the victory. And I mean,
I really think they they did him like they wrote
him really well in this movie. They gave him
some great lines. Chris Evans did a great job
even down to like, you know, there's like this
one like actual like pep talk before they sort
of it kind of reminded me of the football team
running out on the field before the Super Bowl
or something like he's like he sort of gives
them. like a pep talk just to kind of bring everybody
back down to earth kind of everybody's like really
you know just amped up and like ready to go for
this final battle thing and he just kind of gives
them all a reminder of what they're fighting
for and what they're doing kind of brings everybody
you know back down to the ground it was just
amazing like maybe maybe not a lot of people
picked up on that but Something like me being
close to that character. That's something that
I picked up on and Realized like the time and
effort that they put into getting cap right in
this movie and I that's something I really appreciated
Greg did you feel the same way? Oh Yeah, I thought
they did a great job with cap as always along
the lines of favorite action scene or anything
like that Not really cuz the action scenes were
some of them were were long. They were enjoyable,
but they were just Long and I don't think there
was anything that really stuck out in My mind
as being my pivotal action piece. I did enjoy
Hawkeye's little pep talk with Scarlet witch
to kind of get her back in the game and everything
I thought that was really enjoyable with especially
with his arc through the entire story, but is
going to name a specific Action sequence. I die.
I can't really pick one out for it. I'm sorry.
That's fine I did it I didn't enjoy like like
you mentioned before Dan about the Sort of the
gags but like the the team ups yeah, I thought
some of those were done really well like with
it kind of reminded me of in a very vague way,
but it kind of reminded me of the Marvel Ultimate
Alliance 2 game where you could kind of mash
together two people's powers into like a combo
thing. And they like they sort of explored that
a little bit. I thought that was like really,
really cool. We have Thor and Cap teaming up
a couple of times in there. And I thought those
particular things were very cool. And also, I
think there's one point where Cap is for quite
a while. Cap is going. hand -to -hand against
Ultron for quite a while and He's definitely
holding his own, but it's like you know everything
that he can do to keep him occupied because like
you know he has such a Indestructible body and
everything like that so but I thought that those
things were done really well with and You know
kind of showing caps fighting prowess and everything
like that Yeah, yeah, I would agree. You know
what? I thought was kind of weird like Hulk was
like such a I guess standout in the last film
and I don't know for this one I he didn't seem
to Like have as because of role like he kind
of like obviously there's a specific sequence
I did really like the Hulkbuster sequence in
Africa. That was really great But one thing that
kind of stood out to me, too, was kind of thinking
about, you know, one complaint we had a lot with,
like, Man of Steel and a lot of people have was,
like, how you have these battles taking place
in the city. And what I found interesting about
the Marvel films is, like, how a great deal of
time and effort is put into seeing, showing,
like, the Avengers, like, helping civilians.
And, like, that's a, like, part of, like, that
is part of what they're doing, you know, that's
part of their tactics include that. It's a priority
for them. I think that's a good thing. A, it
adds more stakes to what's going on and it shows
that, you know, it's not destruction for drug
destruction's sake. Maybe it is for a certain
extent, but I think that's a good piece because
it does show them being heroic in that way. It
does, you know, there's that they understand
the idea of collateral damage. That's a good
point. The one specific part, too, in the Iron
Man and Hulk fight, you see them kind of heading
towards this building. And if you look quick,
they show Iron Man's perspective through his
helmet and everything. And if you look quick,
it says on there that it scanned the building
and there was no life forms detected. So that
goes along with what you're saying. So he realized
that it was safe to sort of carry the fight into
that building or crash into it or something.
So that was a cool little detail they threw in.
Definitely, definitely. And it is a little bit
like, you know, you could argue it's like G .I.
Joe in the 80s where, you know, a plane would
explode and you'd always see the guy parachute
out of the plane because no one could ever die.
But, you know, I think it at least shows that
they're paying attention to that type of stuff,
which is good. Unlike Superman who just blew
everything up. Yeah. Okay. And you mentioned
the Lulz though, and to me some of my favorite
parts were those when we're seeing them interact
as human beings. Think it was unfortunately ruined
a little bit in the trailer, but I still love
the sequence of them trying to pick up Thor's
hammer and like that like party sequence and
I love the idea that the fact that When they
have this like party in and caps or sorry Iron
Man's location that That you see a lot of like
World War two veterans and at first I'm like,
why would they do that? Why would they have a
lot of like were they doing some sort of ceremony
or something? Oh, no Yeah, I'm like, oh no, it's
caps friends. Obviously, you know, those are
people that he knows so my god That's that's
that's funny. I mean, I like to didn't even like
call attention to it It was just something that
was happening. So Let me ask you something Dan
also in that scene and quite a few other ones
There's quite a few cameos by players from the
single Marvel movies. There was war machine.
There was Sam Wilson the Falcon Showing up. Did
you feel like that was a bit overwhelming that
there were so many of them in there because I
felt like it was maybe a little bit overwhelming
like Holy crap, there's that guy over there.
There's this guy over here. There's this over
here. Oh my god There's this guy over here. There's
over here. There's over here. Like it was a lot
I didn't have an issue as much with like the
war machine and Sam Wilson's I felt like I okay
I know those guys are so it's more so when they
also introduced like a brand new character at
that same time like the Show character and I
felt like that was like I'm like wait that it
did seem Adding in those side characters and
then this other new person, too It did seem like
it was like, oh, okay. Hold on. Let me get my
bearings here for a moment Okay, so we got this
guy over here doing this thing and uh, so yeah,
that was kind of a challenge But that that didn't
bother me at all with the with the characters
from the solo films like I was trying to pick
out as many as I possibly could. I was like,
give me more. I was loving that particular part
of it. I've heard that I should call out Mike
Powers who does the off the cuff. I saw him on
Twitter mentioning that if you watched the last
shield episode that a lot of what happens being
a shield of this movie makes more sense. Chuck,
have you kept up with Agents of Shield? No, I
haven't been actually. I kind of was. getting
disappointed with it again because it was it
got good for a little bit um at the beginning
of season two and then it really started to go
down for me anyway so i kind of just quit watching
it yeah i've heard i heard that because it is
interesting when you think about how captain
america winter soldier ended and how this begins
like did that bother you at all because you do
have a pretty big chunk of like okay what happened
there but do you feel like there's enough to
kind of put the pieces together yourselves i
i thought there was plenty to to match it together
in your head because like they kind of they kind
of say like you know how they're rating a hydra
facility and they kind of state like well that
you know this is more heavily guarded than any
of the other ones that we've taken down so it
kind of makes you realize like after Winter Soldier
like what happened with like hydra infiltrating
and everything like to me like it wasn't hard
at all to sort of make that connection and they
sort of say it blatantly and I like how they
the fact they just picked it up opened it up
with an action scene um I thought that helped
it because it was kind of like it was kind of
like a seamless transition it's like okay this
is what they've been doing like not only at this
site but there are other sites similar to this
yeah it did uh i heard someone mention this i
forget who it was but they're like they reference
they felt like the beginning of that did feel
like an old gi joe movie or episode like the
just having the fort that you had to go through
with the protective layer that you had to get
you know come across and I guess one question
we kind of touched upon Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver,
and you know, I guess one of the debates that
might come up now is who had the better Quicksilver?
Do you guys think it was last year with Days
of Future Past or this year with Age of Ultron?
Days of Future Past. Yeah, I would have to agree
with that. Why would you go Days of Future Past?
I just don't feel like Age of Ultron did anything
interesting with the character. It kind of sucks
for them that Days of Future Past came first,
so maybe they had ideas like that, like there
was little elements of it, like Quicksilver punching
Cap and everything, slowing it down, but they
only did a little bit of it, maybe because they
did have that idea and then they saw Days of
Future... Days of future pastor were like, oh
shit. They did it. We should cut it a little
bit out So it doesn't look like we're stealing
from them or something, but it was just kind
of boring with a little bit of uh, like a little
Effect going behind them for the most part. How
did you what do you guys think of? Aaron Taylor
Johnson, do you feel like he was better than
this and then he was in Godzilla? I thought he
was better in this than in Godzilla to be quite
honest there I don't think there he there was
a lot for him to do in this really I thought
the accents were Interesting. I'm not sure if
they were good, but they definitely entertained
me So, yeah, and I thought Elizabeth Olsen was
a lot better than I was expecting. I still don't
think she visually makes a great Scarlet Witch.
I think acting -wise she did a really great job.
I don't think Elizabeth Olsen is that pretty
and whenever I think of Scarlet Witch, I think
she's smoking hot from how she's drawn in the
comics. I don't know. I think she looks fine.
uh uh whatever um i don't know why someone's
attractiveness should affect their well it's
it's just how i picture it from the comic books
to the movies you know what i mean like if you
picture like robert downey jr looks like iron
man so that kind of helps sell that character
to me elizabeth olson doesn't really look like
the scarlet witch at all to me um so it kind
of doesn't help her out Sell that character to
me if that makes any sense Feel it feel free
to disagree and we'll move on because I feel
like I'm Yeah, I can kind of see where you're
coming from I've had similar thoughts with people
but yeah, that's all I want is I want somebody
to just go I see what you're coming from. I mean
honestly I don't care if they're pretty or not.
I mean, but I know like that wasn't my point.
That wasn't my point It's just like the hotness
of that character Kind doesn't define that character,
but it definitely is what? Kind of made that
character for me if I'm being a sexist pig here
or not. I don't know. Yeah a little bit, but
you know I didn't think I did think air Taylor
Johnson did a really great job like much better
than I was anticipating to be honest and I know
they like they did play around a little bit with
his powers like there was a scene with Thor's
hammer that was kind of funny but like I kind
of wish they did more things from his perspective
because like after seeing like what he can do
in days of future past where they gave him that
whole scene where you see things from his perspective
like I guess that's just the advantage they have
of doing the character first, but I thought they
could have done some more things in Age of Ultron
where you see from his perspective because I
think it makes you appreciate his powers more
when you see that. Yeah, yeah, I definitely agree.
Like it didn't seem like you just saw the effects
of what he did. Almost like you see more interesting
things in the Flash TV show and how they use
his speed and things like that. Exactly. And
that it was just kind of just, you know, he's
moving really fast. I mean, this is definitely
a different take on him. These are two characters
that are coming from much more of a damaged past.
So cursed, they're not going to be as comic relief
as the last film. But I do think just overall,
he just was kind of there. I just remember Josh
Whedon saying things like, oh, like he really
wanted to get Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch because
like the Avengers that he had, like a lot of
their powers are very similar. It was a lot of
just punching and kicking. And I think, oh, great.
That would lead to a lot of different and unique.
things with these characters and It did to a
certain extent but not nearly as much. I still
think that they didn't really Expand upon like
the move set of the action as much as I thought
they would so but for for Elizabeth Olsen I I've
you know, I've had seen her in past movies like
she's been really good in mostly like any dramas
like marcy may martha marcy may marlene and a
lot of like smartphones i think she's a really
great actress going into this i didn't know how
she would work with scarlet witch because it's
a weird role and uh scarlet witch is such a hot
character right she's such an oddball of a person
but i thought she handled it well I really like
the sequence where we see or the the resulting
effects I would say that When she first like
say they want to get spoilers since we're not
there yet When we see her mind games taking shape
for the first time or I guess with most of the
characters I think that's when I like really
like some of those sequences and like the the
different ways that it affected different characters
except for Thor's I thought there was was kind
of I don't know what happened with with Thor's
with how that got resolved. That was weird I
guess that's something we can get a little bit
in more to spoilers But one thing that kind of
stuck out to me is like this one felt a lot like
set up for things to come in a lot of different
ways more so than the like the avengers felt
like the culminating moment last time like this
was it this is what it was all building for this
one feels more like the middle child where we're
like you have stuff from the last one kind of
kind of still you're looking forward to the next
one and it ends up kind of losing its like his
own identity a little bit and then james rhodes
is behind they're going marcia marcia marcia
i know that seemed unnecessary like i i don't
i didn't i didn't get that but How was how yeah
and you mentioned about the Like those sort of
mind game sequences with scarlet witch and stuff
and I thought at the very beginning those were
sort of weird because they like They should they
seem like horror movie ish. Yeah, like some of
the effects they did I thought came off really
weird like like things moved quickly like it
looked like the Looked like the movie real skipped
or something and things were moving like really
fast like a horror movie Yeah, like just like
a weird effect that I didn't think really fit
into the movie like I don't know Yeah, like her
first time you see her. It's almost like she
looks like the character from the ring or something
like that Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah Interesting
looking but it definitely didn't fit the movie.
I agree Yeah, like I'm glad they sort of like
they only did that once and then they kind of
like back off and took a little bit different
approach to it. But I think they definitely could
have done a better job explaining her powers
a little bit more or just explaining comics could
do a little bit better explaining her powers.
I still don't understand her powers. But like,
you know, I had some of my friends who aren't
quite as familiar with the Marvel Universe as
we are, at least the comic universe. And they
were like, like, what are her powers? Like, what
is that? red stuff, like, what is that all about?
It tells me, like, for the more, like, you know,
for the lay person, like, they really should
have explained it better, like, just take an
extra minute or something where they're kind
of talking about it, like, the Avengers get together
and kind of, you know, pull their intel and,
like, talk about it a little bit, something.
Because I think vision suffered from the same
thing later on, like, because people were, people
were sort of confused. Like that weren't comic
book fans. They're like, well, what is that?
Like, how did he just appear? And like, how did
he just change himself and everything? They didn't
even show much of his him fighting anyway. Right.
So people are like, OK, it's just this weird
guy now that they just they should have taken
a little bit of time to just flesh it out more
like just make the movie five minutes longer
and like address those things like I just don't
think. You know, they address it properly. Yeah,
I and I can completely agree Greg that like I
was looking forward to like some really great
moments with vision because his powers are so
great like the using the you know, the phasing
and stuff like that that could lead to a lot
of cool stuff and it Didn't really I don't know.
I don't know if they're trying to like save that
or you know what the thought process is, but
it just seemed for much of like the third act
he was kind of Gone like even now that final
sequence. He wasn't there. There was a lot of
characters They had so many characters that a
lot of characters went missing during certain
elements and it's like, okay Well, what about
this person they could do this and why does this
person have to? So it was yeah, it was kind of
weird Yeah that I mean that's the truth like
did you guys feel at all that there was too much
going on at all or? With all the characters and
all the different little bit. Yeah I don't really
get that feeling at all. I just wish that they
sort of explain certain things better to people.
Like, I was sort of connecting the dots on things,
but I could definitely tell where somebody that
hasn't read comics or anything would kind of
be like, wait, what? Because there's like 10
things going on right now. I could definitely
see how people would think that. But I think
a way they could tie in the characters better,
like instead of having one just Completely missing
from scenes like maybe just kind of tossed them
in the background. So you kind of see that they're
there Yeah, but they're obviously not the focus
of the scene Like, you know, maybe you have an
important moment going on between two or three
characters but you know in the background you
see like cap shield fly by or like Hulk run by
or something like I do think was kind of smart
worth Except for like the last sequence where
you had a lot of sequences up to that where like
you like you mentioned the one with cap and Ultron
where it was just one or two Avengers that you
that were in Taking place or if the focus of
the action which I think helped like in those
sequences why I think I'm probably my favorite
part was the Iron Man Hulk throwdown because
it was it was a little bit more contained and
it like You just had that you didn't have to
worry about 14 other characters and what they
were going through but and plus I just love the
I love the action sequences during the day and
I thought that looked kind of cool in the the
veronica suit That that is it still looks really
cool. Yeah But all right anything else on general
thoughts at all I guess the question becomes
because you got to rank things that you like
that goes and it's quite difficult to rank all
the Marvel movies at this time But looking back
at phase, this is what phase two still so you
have Iron Man 3 Guardians Winter Soldier and
then this that seems is that it I guess or chase.
Oh Yeah, Thor 2 and then this you know, where
do you feel like each of Ultron falls falls into
that or if you want to? include the other Marvel
movies as well I guess like as far as phase two
I know like their their method is like each time
an Avengers movie comes that's like the end of
a phase so we're from now you know this day for
they're starting phase three but with the phase
two ones I think I would probably still go like
Cap Winter Soldier Guardians and then this probably
third and maybe Thor 2 after that and Iron Man
3 last because I don't like that one. But yeah,
I really enjoyed it. But I think Guardians and
Winter Soldier were much more well crafted as
far as the plot and like things tying together
and being thought out and everything. This was
definitely a fun ride that I don't want to take
anything away from that. Greg, what do you think?
I would go Guardians, Winter Soldier, Age of
Ultron, Thor 2, and then Iron Man 3. Interesting,
interesting. The Iron Man 3's ending, well, second
half of that movie, kind of. See, I would, I
go Winter Soldier first and Guardians too. I
feel like those are... Usually the best of the
two. I think guardians handles the team might
dynamic a little bit better and it's comedy I
think is better Spaced out I would say after
that it gets a little bit harder for me. I actually
I know a lot of people hate Iron Man 3 I guess
you guys as much or didn't select it. I actually
like Iron Man 3 a lot So I'd probably would go
Winter Soldier Guardians Iron Man 3 Age of Ultron
and probably Thor 2 would be mine Would be my
ranking Do you guys overall think phase two compared
to phase one has been an improvement? Yeah, I
would say so I'll go with that too without any
explanation as well. I think like I think just
because In my personal opinion, I think cap winter
soldier was better than the first cap. Yeah,
just a little bit and I think Think Thor 2 maybe
was a little bit better than the first Thor.
Yeah, and Like obviously the first Avengers I
still think is ahead of this one But um, but
you throw in Guardians as the wild card Guardians
was so well done. Yeah, I think this phase was
better Yeah, I think that is the that's like
the you know, the special teams player that makes
it all work wild I'm interested in seeing how
phase three goes It's gonna be interesting at
times almost a lot like it might have been better
if they made this movie into two movies in some
ways But that might have been too much. So one
thing that I was talking about with one of my
work friends was the The the very title that
they gave this movie was kind of a poor choice
In our opinions because it's like when you when
you say the age of something You're like you're
suggesting that it was a long period of time
Okay, not that like okay, it should have been
probably called like avengers the brief encounter
with ultron It's like you're talking like a span
of like three or four days or something if that
even it might have been like two or three days,
but um Well, they're on that farm for a while.
So Yeah, that was that was teenage mutant ninja
turtle kind of vibe there. Yeah, they were on
that farm for like at least like five hours definitely
but yeah i just thought that was weird like maybe
the title could have been a little bit better
because like you're expecting like this this
awesome villain because it's like wow age of
ultron like this guy must be really powerful
like you know he does a lot of damage and it's
like nope not so much yeah all righty so That
was it for our general thoughts on Age of Ultron,
and like I mentioned, I'll be putting on the
end of the episode more of our spoilerific thoughts,
more details, so make sure to stay tuned and
you'll be able to listen to that. But before
we go, we like to end each episode with a letter,
and I do have one for this week, and I just hope
you will bear with me as I go over this real
quick. Sally, not far removed from the devastating
earthquake in Nepal, we in Baltimore are suffering
from a self -inflicted wound. A wound that has
long been festering but now has opened up to
the recent events. Perhaps if we paid as much
attention to those that attempt to improve our
communities as we do to those that destroy them,
we could have addressed some of these issues
long before they reached their boiling points.
There's no question that the action of those
who rioted were in the wrong. Destroying communities
is cowardly and it does far more to hurt you
than help your cause. When I saw the city that
I called home for the last eight years on national
TV burning, my only emotions were anger and rage.
The issue becomes is when we stop at those emotions
and never investigate these situations with a
sense of tempered logic. The anger that was expressed
both peacefully and non -peacefully comes from
systemic issues that are complicated, rampant,
and criminally ignored. These communities suffer
from much including failing schools, destroying
infrastructure, broken promises from a multitude
of politicians and police officers who are forced
to follow Idiotic orders that place more credence
on pointless arrests than actually serving the
community. It worries me greatly when we pass
judgment without asking questions. When people
who never spent a day living outside their small
communities are unable to recognize that maybe,
just maybe, there's a situation out there they
can't fully understand. That simple answer is
like, get a job, don't solve complex problems.
The riots in Baltimore are more about one man,
they're more about one issue, they're more about
one situation. They're not limited to political
parties, economic barriers, or city boundaries.
These are issues that are universal and ones
that are bare talking about. I personally find
solace in the fact that those who have long been
attempting to mend the wound of Baltimore will
continue to fight harder for a city that's far
more than these actions. Even the chaos of the
riots we saw men and women fill the streets of
Baltimore calling for peace. And even though
many of those cries fell down deaf ears, their
actions speak volumes. The police officers, firefighters,
protesters, teachers, doctors, nurses, students,
community organizers, religious leaders, and
citizens whose focus is on making a situation
better than the way it founded is what the city
is truly about. As the riots subside and the
used cameras dissipate, it will be them tending
to the wound once more. We shall not be defined
by our worst moments, but the way we continue
to fight to pick up the pieces. Despite these
events, Baltimore will forever be full of charm.
Sincerely, me. I tried to stay out of politics
as much as that was I could with that. But uh,
I had to say something You know, I do live in
Baltimore and uh, you know, it's I'm hopefully
as I'm writing this things aren't on fire I have
not turned on the news. So I don't know but we'll
see how it goes. It's been peaceful so far I
just want the older I just want to get get the
back to the fact that you know I can go see the
Orioles playing Canyon yards again. They've not
been here for a while. Yeah But uh, anyways anything
else before we uh, we bring this episode to a
close Sleep. Sleep's a good time. Sleepy time.
All righty, so we'd love to hear your thoughts
on Age of Ultron, on Joker, even the NFL draft.
We had a lot of great NFL talk last week. Somehow,
Tim Tebow is always that catalyst for great conversation.
But there are tons of ways you can contact with
us. You can email us at feedback .echicastradio
.com or talkingincirclesatlive .com. We're on
Facebook or Twitter. Just search Talking In Circles,
GCRN. And you all are on Twitter. What are your
Twitter names? I am at Heroic Age Chuck. I am
at the Create Forge. And I am at Movie Revolt.
And also make sure to go to geecastreader .com
or nodalede .co .uk and have some conversation
there. It's always a good time. Love to get those
comments. I haven't been mentioning a few episodes,
so hopefully we can get them back up again. We
still had some good conversations for sure, but
love to hear your thoughts. It's the best way
to get the opportunity to interact with everyone
else. Ready, but that'll be it for this week.
We'll be back next week same time same channel
Same podcast feed but for now This has been Chuck
This has been Greg or quick silver who is not
quite dead yet because I still have to catch
moose and squirrel And this has been Dan and
we've been Talking in circles. We'll see you
next week. I don't think anyone would ever make
a statue for Aaron Hickman Johnson. They will
at the MILF Academy because my wife is way older
than Aaron. It is very weird and awkward. If
someone did ever make a statue of him, Godzilla
would try very hard not to knock it over. Please
step around, Godzilla. Thank you very much. I
very much appreciate it. And it would show as
much as motion as he does. That's also very true.
I had my emotions taken out of me and we've actually
had them installed in Ultron. Does explain the
lack of personality for sure. If you're still
listening, that means you've seen Age of Ultron,
because we're going to get more into the mini
-gritty details, so we're going to spoil the
hell out of it. So you've not seen it, you don't
want to spoil it for you, stop listening, save
this, and come back to it at a later time. But
there's kind of a lot to go over, and I think
a good spot would maybe be... the way it ended.
And I guess I should probably start with you
here, Chuck. What were your feelings on the little
stinger we got at the closing of the credits
for Age of Ultron? Best scene in the entire movie.
I saw that and I was like, holy shit. Like, that's
awesome. That just got me totally pumped, like
walking out of there. Because, I mean, obviously
we knew they were doing a mid credit scene. And
I just I wasn't sure what it was gonna be I don't
know if it was gonna be something with spider
-man or ant -man or you know even Black Panther
because they mentioned Wakanda in the actual
movie which was pretty awesome in and of itself,
but So I've started kind of swirling around I'm
like, what's it gonna be? Like there's so many
options. There's so many things they can do even
they can bring up dr. Strange or something and
Just to show Thanos again and set that up even
further. That was That was a great choice, I
thought, because a lot of people are still like
wondering about this guy. And I think a lot of
people are actually getting impatient, too, because
they're like, we've literally had like 10 Marvel
movies and the guy doesn't have one stone yet.
So just kidney stones. There's there's actually
a Twitter feed donated or. specifically set out
for this I think it's like at lonely Thanos or
something like that like it talks about how it
has no stones and everything it's kind of funny
but it's gonna start a Kickstarter to get the
get the stones yeah maybe we could get him one
of those styrofoam ones from comic -con or something
but Yeah, I thought that was that was a really
awesome choice to put that in there because For
the people that were getting impatient and everything
like who is this guy? Why is he just sitting
on his ass and not doing anything? It was a little
bit of a shot in the arm to like, okay, just
sit tight because he's coming like he's You know
coming all over the place with his non -existent
I'll do it myself. So it's like alright now you
can kind of You can kind of rest easy like it's
it's it's coming sooner rather than later. I
guess even though it's three years away That's
kind of funny the next movie I swear the next
I'll do it myself in three years What did you
did you enjoy Greg? I did I always enjoy seeing
Thanos on the screen Definitely creepy voice.
It definitely pissed me off when the guy behind
us goes, who's that? And then somebody goes,
oh, that's Thanos. Oh, my god. That was that.
And when vision came on screen for the first
time, the guy goes, who's that? I seriously wanted
to go, behold, the vision from his cover, first
cover he was on. Like, yeah, it would have been
awesome. Does seriously bother me when people
say Thanos cuz I'm like really I'm like you don't
see Captain America Like some people do I did
like it in what I was when he said I'll do it
myself the like the first thing that came to
my mind was Was he responsible for Ultron being
created? because you know you see in the movie
where like Tony Stark leaves he's like, oh, we're
not nowhere close to it and suddenly it changes
and even they even to call it out again We was
like we weren't even close to it. We weren't
even there Is it do you think we'll find out
that Thanos was partially responsible for creating
Ultron? yeah, I think I think the the artificial
intelligence that ended up becoming Ultron was
sort of a Sort of a failsafe almost a guardian
for the mind gem. Yeah, in my opinion like I
think it was meant to sort of be like almost
like a I guess a landing party maybe you could
call it to sort of take out some things like
whatever Thanos is gonna be trying to conquer
like maybe this origin horse This would sort
of come out. Yeah sort of come about to try to
clear the way so he wouldn't have as much dirty
work when he does get there Obviously, it didn't
work and the Avengers defeated Ultron. So he's
kind of just like, all right. Well, I'll just
do it myself. It's not the big of a deal Yeah
When that reveal happened, I know we talked about
it previously that if sat at the slow lucky staff
was a Was a gem or not? Did that surprise you
at all that they went there or did what was it
kind of like? Oh, of course. That's where they're
going It didn't really surprise me too much because
I like I know we talked about it. What was it
like last? Last year last fall or something like
that. Yeah, I think we talked about guardians.
I believe yeah and I I had initially had a problem
with what they were doing with the scepter and
I didn't think it was a Infinity stone at first
because of a couple reasons one the color Which
and this one I was kind of disappointed that
they just went like oh, yeah, it's yellow on
the inside Yellow filling Is that the right color
for the gem in the comic or no? No, it's it's
a little different I think it was orange in the
comics, but they did change them a couple times
though So it kind of doesn't matter at this point
what color they are. Yeah, but um, and I'd also
like What was uh, there was another reason that
I didn't particularly think it was because I
know the color they were sticking with the color
theme and It didn't make sense to me that they
had two blue ones and stuff like that. But the
other thing that didn't make sense to me at the
time of Guardians was, or even at the end of
the first Avengers was, okay, why would Thanos
gamble with one Infinity Gem to get another one?
He would think he would keep that one for himself
and use it to gain another one. To me, he was
really... He was really playing a game, but they're
giving it to Loki and potentially losing it So
I didn't think that that would fit that well
but you know, I obviously I stand corrected when
when this happened and I kind of thinking about
it over the last few months I'm like, you know
what? It's it's got to be the mind gem because
of the way it was controlling people's minds
and everything like that But I was just curious
how they were gonna do it with the color and
everything and you know Lo and behold they just
kind of the thing breaks open. It's like oh,
it's yellow inside. So if you all What did you
think about that correct? How did you feel about
them using like bringing any infinity stone into
this based upon the staff Yeah, it didn't bother
me. I didn't see a problem with it. Yeah. Well,
I guess I did have a question for you Greg and
Knowing that you're a big fan of vision What
was your opinion on the way they like handled
his creation in that sense? It is a little it
is very different than the actual comic. I enjoy
the character, but I really don't know his origins
too. Well, oddly enough. So would somebody like
to fill me in? Well, he was created by Ultron
to be his ultimate weapon, which is kind of what
happened here. But he starts off as a villain
and like he consciously makes a decision to turn
on Ultron in this it was you know he was with
them from the start he was with them from the
start and you know being based with Jarvis obviously
he was kind of his found foundation and which
i think it was an interesting choice but i i
was just wondering if like the fact that like
it wasn't him choosing like it wasn't like a
choice it wasn't like a decision that like he
changed his mind based upon what he saw, but
it was more like that was what he was like from
the beginning. I was wondering if that bothered
you since that's kind of a key element of that
character. Not really, because at the end of
it, it was still a vision like character. It
still held beliefs that were close to the to
the comics, if you ask me. So it didn't really
bother me that much. Do you like the what you
think of the look of vision little weird? Paul
Bettany's face doesn't really say vision to me,
but Yeah, there's more of it. There's definitely
more of like a Expression there than you would
expect. Yeah and His face just looks weird as
the vision for some reason I found the color
scheme weird, but it was still acceptable my
Bigger beef is the um That they didn't really
show his power set too. Well, yeah That was that
was disappointing. I was hoping like you see
him get there and he like he turns off ultron
like I didn't really Completely, I guess maybe
like just the his actions his wi -fi. Maybe is
that what he took off? I guess Yeah, I guess
I guess because he had the mind gem. It was just
sort of uh invading ultrons artificial mind sort
of altering it but That was an interesting choice
of having him having the gem on Visions head
be the mind gem. I mean that I I thought that
made perfect sense to me yeah, and like I I did
like I mentioned like earlier in the show like
I think they should have they should have explained
his powers a little bit more and stuff, but Like
I think it made a lot of sense to to put the
mind gem there because it's sort of It's sort
of an ambiguous thing to begin with. So I guess
you can kind of be like, all right Well, he gets
most of his like, you know, that's a that's actually
a part of his consciousness like the mind gem
and it's kind of an amalgam of that and Ultron
and Jarvis like all into one but um, I think
I think also like The I think the mind gem is
a lot of the reason that he could pick up Thor's
hammer Yeah, I was actually gonna ask you guys
that like how you felt about him being able to
pick up for his hammer like at first I was totally
Taken aback by that cuz I'm like, whoa, wait
a second. I'm like cap definitely should have
been able to pick it up caps I agree that caps
should have been able to pick it up as well he's
done it in the comics and everything but the
more I thought about it was like well, you know
what vision has the mind gem and like in my mind
like I would think that the mind gem by itself
would be good, but if it were in the hands of
someone using it for evil, that's when it would
be bad. So I'm just making sense in my own head
of it. I was kind of thinking, okay, so the mind
gem is probably good to begin with. It's just
the mind gem. So the purity would make sense
to me that he would be able to pick up the hammer
because there's nothing inherently evil with
like vision, like it's just sort of based on,
you know, Jarvis, which Tony Stark designed and
everything. So. Well, here's here's my take on
it. Vision is like a brand new creature. It's
kind of like a baby, essentially. It was born
yesterday. So babies are innocent. So it's kind
of a clean slate. So why wouldn't it be able
to pick up? It doesn't really have anything.
Bad going against it in the first place here,
which makes me want to see a baby pick up Thor's
hammer It's interesting because I feel like we
all had different reasoning for like why he could
do it, which is kind of cool But uh, my thought
was more so since like Thor helped create him
like he brought him to life with majority Mjolnir
Mjolnir Mjolnir that Like because of that like
that allowed him to pick it up since that's where
he was it was almost like he was a part of that
I didn't think of that actually, but yeah Which
at first when I thought Thor landed there, I
thought he was destroying like Ultron and that's
what he was trying to do He he Frankensteined
him and brought him to life Yeah, that's what
I thought too. But I also see also like caps
explanation at the end where like, you know,
he's a machine so Like, you know, technically
if you put Thor's hammer in an elevator, it's
lifting it up. The elevator is not worthy You
know what I mean, but it's doing it because it's
a machine But wouldn't that mean Ultron could
pick it up too? You would think but he didn't
try to though, right? I thought he I thought
he caught it once I could be wrong. I could remember
I think he was like he was twisting forms up
arm and forward dropped it or whatever on the
ground, but yeah That's interesting. Yeah, but
one thing I want to go back and vision was like
the when he first came out of that little chamber
thing that he generated and His whole body at
first was like red, kind of red with like silver
trim. And then he kind of like... First of all,
I don't know how the hell he can fly all of a
sudden. Like, at least with Ultron, they were
showing the little jet propulsion things out
of his back and his feet and everything, sort
of like the Iron Man suit. But somehow, magically,
Vision couldn't come out and fly on his own without
any of that stuff. But not only that, but he
sort of... his body just starts like changing
automatically and it turns to like mostly green
and Then he sort of looks at Thor's cape and
he's like, oh, I like that and he just like grows
his own cape Like what the hell was that? Like,
I don't know. Yeah, it was a little weird to
me Like I thought they could have done a better
job at that But yeah, I was I was hoping waiting
for like a piece of dialogue which were would
have been like, you know, I you know trying to
take that from from him, but it Guess the defying
thing didn't bother me because I figured since
it was Jarvis and he has experience with the
Iron Man stuff I didn't I didn't think about
that, but right, but how can he fly though? You
know what I mean? Like oh, yeah, that's how is
he actually hovering in the air like This Thor
technically can't fly only if he throws his hammer
and he hangs on to it. Yeah, you know, but That's
a good point yes Tinkerbell come over the top
of them sprinkle a little fairy dust and he's
good to go. Hey, yeah He thought happy thoughts.
That's why he can lift up the hammer. He has
a little fission dust. We didn't talk about Ultron
a lot and then general thoughts, but I know,
Chalky, you mentioned like... like one of your
issues was like how he had like a sense of humor
that seemed a little bit like out of place and
The and I wanted it I didn't want to talk about
it in the general thoughts because I thought
it was kind of spoilerish Yeah, the one the one
spot I felt like that was really true was with
the guy with any circus and playing the claw
His name yeah, and he cuts off his arm and like
his reaction to that. I yeah, it was funny, but
it felt I don't know, it just felt really clunky.
It felt forced, like they were trying too hard
to be funny there. I don't know if there's anything
else about Ultron you wanted to talk about. Well,
I think Ultron had that humor because he was
kind of being based off of Tony Stark and everything.
Oh, that's a good point. Yeah, I mean, I understand
that's what they're trying to do, but I don't
think it worked though. Like I don't think you
need that to make it work because like Ultron's
like a Cold menacing like robot, you know, that
doesn't make it interesting for the movie though.
I think that would I think it would have I think
it would have made it better because it's like
it's terrifying and Terrifying is what they were
going for with James Spader's voice and the things
that he was saying and It's terrifying in himself.
I think he would have been more in terrifying
if they just got James Spader You are now on
the blacklist I've mixed feelings for it cuz
like I do think that You know the sense of humor
helps but and that one didn't mind I didn't mind
as much it kind of just took out to me It was
more so like the one that kind of felt like I
don't know about that was when he's flying the
Quinjet and like the Hulk comes and he like jumps
into it and like he gets like he like he's like
whimpering you know uh with the Hulk it felt
like it was it I get what they're going for there
but it felt like they were trying to do the the
low -key moment again like the going back to
like we didn't try to do like we do like standout
moments and it didn't work as well for me because
one we didn't see it happening which is you know
interesting choice but I wouldn't take away the
humor completely. I just thought there a specific
moment which really could have dialed it back
Just just a tad. Yeah Even like the the comment
about the omelet like I thought that was good
that was that was something that he would say
like it's like a It's like a mildly sarcastic
thing like, you know, obviously you've never
made an omelet But like when I look at like Dan,
you mentioned the the thing when he cuts off
Ulysses claws arm and he's you know, his reaction
is oh, I'm so sorry like, you know and like that
was too much and even like the the first time
that they sort of did it which was really like
lucky left me with a bad taste the first time
where that that girl I can't remember a name
but the one that would like invented that tissue
chamber thing show yeah, yeah Who maybe is Amadeus
chose mother maybe possibly that's what I was
Was curious about that as well. I thought there
might have been a connection or something but
like when she could I don't know if it was her
or if it was Scarlet witch or somebody said like
you're gonna kill the Avengers or something and
he's like I'm gonna he's like I'm gonna save
humanity, but yeah and I was like that was like
That was the start of it for me. I'm like, okay,
so they're going this way with the character
like he's he's trying to be like cocky almost
like it's it just didn't fit the description
of an artificial intelligence to me like i don't
know maybe it's just my my take on it like from
what i've seen but it's it's certainly different
it kind of reminds me of going back to like uh
we talked about daredevil and how vincent and
afrio certainly took the the character of daredevil
or not daredevil he took the character daredevil
no he took the character of the kingpin and kind
of did his own thing with it and i felt like
it was a combination of like we didn't the 20
star character and like james baiter and like
this that kind of like twisted sense of humor
he has and a little bit so i think like i said
at times it didn't bother me there were just
those few moments i'm like i don't know if you
need it and it and i don't know if it necessarily
was the fact that it was ultron doing it if it
was more so the fact that i felt like every character
Was like that at one point or another and I don't
and I'm not against that I think there were I
just don't think there were like the as great
of moments because I'm thinking about the the
first Avengers right in the Galaga moment and
I thought that was hilarious and Chris Evans
with the you know, I got that reference and they
tried some of that stuff here I'm like, you know
with the beginning having the running joke of
the language joke going throughout nowhere Which
I get it and it was interesting enough, but I
just don't think it was as as strong as some
of the other humor in the first one Oh Ultron's
ultimate plan How do you guys feel about like
that like it you just basically think I want
like creating a meteor to kind of destroy With
vibranium just destroy the earth. I was curious
like how you felt that worked out It was fine
We got an army now we've got a meteor coming
down it was I don't know Six one half a dozen
of the other to be quite honest with that. I
think yeah What were your thoughts on that Chuck?
Honestly, I thought I thought his master plan
seemed oddly simplistic Frankly like poorly thought
out for like a super intelligent robot. Yeah,
I'm like Trying to crash a giant chunk of landmass
into the earth like it it seemed far -fetched
for even this movie Yeah, it's like how did you
build these giant thrusters to to lift this piece
of like? This piece of land like it was pretty
it just reminded me. I'm like am I watching Superman
returns? It's like kryptonite things growing
out of the bottom of it. I don't know. But like
to me, it would have made more sense for like
Ultron's potential was like so much greater.
Like it would have made more sense for them to
go in other directions. Like you could do things
like you could collapse economies. You can shut
down nuclear power plants. You could cause explosions
all around the world. Like he could potentially
like cripple the entire earth in the matter of
a day. with like the things that he's connected
to like connecting to basically our internet
and all of our systems and everything but like
his efforts are kind of wasted on like hoisting
this giant mountain in the air and Not only that
which was a big enough thing for me but also
like putting all his eggs in one basket and Sort
of making it easy for the Avengers to destroy
all of his copies like the first thing I would
have done like if I were Ultron is like hide
like a bunch of Ultrons all throughout the world
and just kind of keep them there for a rainy
day. Because like if the Avengers don't know
they're there, he's already got like a sleeper
body that's kind of waiting to come back. You
know what I mean? Like he really put all of his
copies, all of his eggs into one basket. And
I thought that was like sort of oddly convenient
and didn't make much sense to me. I don't know.
It I know it I get it's challenging because like
you You know, you can't you're probably not gonna
go back to Ultron for another villain so you
you have to make it so it's like you know, this
is it like you kind of have a completion you
feel like you've defeated the character and It's
just like creating a full floating island. I
thought visually it was interesting at times
like When I talked about in the general when
there's like the daisy daisy x machina of like
nick fury showing up the helicarrier that felt
like one of those moments in a comic where you
would have the side comic that kind of gets into
that and explains it and doesn't so it doesn't
seem like a like a cheat to get out of a really
difficult situation but you know it it's kind
of it is very comic booky in that way where you
have that like out of nowhere rescue but i don't
know like you said chuck it didn't seem it didn't
to me have much of a There's a lot of unfulfilled
potential sort of yeah, there's lack of logic
I would say yeah, though I I wonder if I think
kind of with the floating island if that's gonna
be like a lead -in to like Avalon for the inhumans,
you know and How like they you know, they eventually
have the floating city above New York if that's
some some route they end up going That's like
a lead -in to that potentially, you know, they
tend to they know build things up here and there
so I think a cool angle for them to go is if
he's shutting down things all over the world
that he's connected to. They mentioned he was
going after the nuclear launch codes, but Jarvis
was buried deep into the internet and he kept
changing the codes and everything. They did address
that, but there's so many other things he could
do to collapse economies and literally plunge
us into a dark age sort of thing that would be
an age of Ultron. I think that would have been
cool because there would have been opportunities
for... The team to sort of break up into smaller
teams and go to different parts of the world
to like To solve these issues or something. I
think maybe that could have been a Possibly a
cool aspect to go like cool way to go. I Get
I get that I could see that it's interesting
because it does seem like at the end of this
movie that the team has certainly shifted because
there's a little bit of a You know, we come to
the Avengers and it's like new Avengers training
facility, which I don't know if that's like a
supposed to be a hint of something. But my other
question for you guys is, do you guys actually
think that Quicksilver is really dead? I do not.
Agreed. I just think. Well, the obvious the obvious
reason is that Aaron Taylor Johnson signed on
for more than just one film. Well, there you
go. But other than that. the fact that they didn't
address his passing at all, like they didn't
acknowledge it at all. Yeah. Hawkeye sort of
carries him onto that, uh, helicarrier boat thing,
but they didn't, you know, you didn't see Cap
talking about it. Like, you know, Cap would be
broken up like something like that. Like we lost
a warrior today, like someone that fought alongside
us bravely, like there was zero mention of it
at all. It was just left it totally wide open
for you to kind of wonder but I mean honestly
like they still have that chamber thing that
they use for tissue regeneration and and they
mentioned that he has an accelerated metabolism
sort of like something similar to the flash or
Yeah, you know like if he has a broken arm it
heals in like three hours or whatever. So I Definitely
think he's still alive. They could bring him
back with those things Do you guys think that
Wanda and we'll find out that Wanda and him were
actually inhumans? Well, they did say enhanced.
They didn't say mutant or anything. Enhance.
Enhance. Well, one thing I found out, which was
I didn't realize this, but apparently they sort
of... They combined Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch
with like... Baron Strucker's children from the
comics. Yeah, yeah and like cuz he like sort
of experimented on them to give them powers and
I never like knew that that part of it like the
Fenris twins they called them. Yeah, so I Don't
know I get I don't know if they're gonna call
them on inhumans like if he experimented on or
maybe that's what they're gonna say an inhuman
is you know, just somebody that was experimented
on with Infinity gems or something. I don't know
Yeah, I was I was wondering like how they would
bring out I don't think he's dead either like
you said he signed on for more and once they
like they throw in that and enhanced metabolism,
it just feels like it's a key that you know that
there's more to it, but you you uh There you
mentioned like the how that's like kind of an
Easter egg tying into You know past comics there
were actually were were a few things that we
can maybe go over real quick We you know with
uh, you know agent with ultron's date not debut
but like when you see him in the church with
the With like the capon or the the hood how it's
kind of a throw It's a kind of a mention of his
early debut as crimson cowl In the early days
of ultron. Yeah, that was really cool. I I really
like I noticed that like When he was sitting
in that chair thing and I was like, oh, that's
really cool that they kind of put that nod in
there Yeah, and uh, we talked about the the show
and how that could be chose. Uh What's his name?
Amadeus chose i'm an amadeus. That's I mean,
I want to be called amadeus That's a great amadeus.
Um amadeus The seventh smartest person on the
planet But with thor I I My assumption is like
his little like mind trickery thing was supposed
to be somehow in reference to Ragnarok that's
coming up That's what I kind of took out of it.
I wasn't really sure like it was kind of weird.
I was confused Yeah, I kind of I kind of saw
that too like his whole interaction with Heimdallr
Yeah, like things he was hinting at what he was
saying. I felt like they were trying to hint
that Ragnarok a little bit Thing that sticks
out to you. Oh, did you guys you know how they
call? The Hulkbuster Omer Veronica. Do you know
why that is and what that's in reference to?
Yeah, I just I read it was something to do with
the Archie comic and because Bruce Banner loved
Betty that they just named this the opposite
Yeah of ever being a name for I had no idea that
I'll be lying if I did. Yeah, I didn't know that
either I just I totally read that and I was like,
okay, that makes sense. My Archie my Archie knowledge
is not up as it used to be They didn't do me
nor is anybody's yeah How about the Friday one?
That was I didn't what was that? I did not I
didn't get that at all That was I guess that
was from the comics too. I wasn't real familiar
with it, but they said he had actually Stark
it actually created another like artificial intelligence
that was called Friday Sort of he had like I
guess some backup ones you could call it like
backup ones his original like Suits AI so he
you know He had one named Friday and I guess
someone said that if you look closely in the
movie When he picks up the I guess it was on
a disc or something and you can see it says Friday
on it Yeah, I didn't catch this but someone said
that if you look closely you see him like moving
a couple and the one actually said Jocasta Really?
Yeah, which was like the you know the Bride of
Ultron or whatever you want to call it. Like
he made the female robot in the comics I did
not I did not pick that I'm gonna I'm sure there's
like a ton more easter eggs once the blu -ray
comes out. Yeah I'm gonna look for that one when
I watch it the second time because I thought
that was pretty cool I don't know you guys hear
that for the blue ray. They're supposed to have
like an alternate ending and uh And uh additional
like it's supposed to be extended edition of
it, which should be interesting I think it's
I don't know how much longer I don't know if
they're gonna try to like water the rings it
and make it another like 40 minutes long Is it
is it just an extended or is it an alternate
or it's like things are different? It's an alternate
ending This is though. I've heard that that isn't
true. There's not an alternate ending But I do
know it's supposed to be alternate and extended
what extended means how much? You know, you don't
know it could be like an additional scene or
two or one or something like that. Yeah Another
thing that I heard or just today that I read
was um a lot of people are asking too about how
like in the first Thor They could they sort of
show the infinity gauntlet in Odin's weapons
vault. Yeah, and People are saying like with
this after credit scene with Thanos obviously
putting the gauntlet on they're like all right
well how did he get that like did he go to asgard
and get it did loki give it to him like what's
going on but i guess someone from marvel i'm
not sure who but they sort of confirmed an interview
that there's actually a right and a left gauntlet
and if you looked i guess if you look closely
at the one in thor as a right -handed one Because
in the age of Ultron Thanos reaches in with his
left hand and he puts it on his left hand So
does that mean there's 12 infinity gauntlets
or 12 infinity stones altogether? No, I don't
think it I don't think it means that I don't
think they're gonna go that far but I what I
I mean it does open up some possibilities though
because it's like All right. Well, what if like
Somebody else wields the other one and they each
have three stones and they fight each other with
three stones You know like and it's sort of like
maybe it matters which stones you have because
you sort of use them in your strategy to beat
the other guy so it's like It's weird. Like I
don't know how they're gonna do it and I was
thinking personally I'm like, well, maybe that's
just a screw -up and they just sort of like you
know, it was like a rewrite or a retcon or whatever
you want to call it like but According to this
article, I mean, we'll see if it's true. But
he said this guy from Marvel said that There's
a right and a left one So, I don't know Hmm,
that'll be interesting. I guess, you know, maybe
one was made by Ned Flanders in the left -handed
Torium or whatever they called it Eleven percent
of people are left -handed Apparently Thanos
is a Southpaw. Yeah, yeah and so I don't it's
interesting because it like where this leaves
off looking at like the where we're gonna be
going after this because There were like little
hints of you know Iron Man makes a like a Tony
Stark makes mention that he's going to go help
write legislation for the government I don't
know if you guys caught that At the end like
that's where he's going and you have the new
Avengers team But I one of my question is like
with Hulk did anyone else think like Is he going
into space that he's not going into space? Because
they they said at the end that he like landed
off the coast of something and he must have swam.
I thought it seemed like you or something. They
said, yeah, I was kind of hoping that to Dan,
but they definitely said he was swimming to Fiji.
That was my that was my first thought. I'm like.
Are they doing it? Yeah, that's what that was
my first thought too that that whole thing was
weird at the end as well There was there was
a lot of we like I don't understand why Iron
Man went away I don't understand why Hulk went
away. I don't just wants to be left alone I guess
I don't understand why some of these people like
went away. It was just like yeah, we're leaving
though You can have fun with the new team here.
Yeah. Yeah, I thought it was weird how they kind
of they almost lied because I remember, I don't
know if it was Whedon or or Fagie or however
you say his name. I could have sworn they promised
that Falcon was not in this movie and he shows
up in a couple of spots in this movie. Clearly
at the end, he's on the new roster. Yeah. So
I was like, that was kind of a I guess they were
just trying to keep a tight lid on that. But.
I gotta say the new roster like not not to knock
anyone but kind of a huge step down in every
area like for For power wise. Yeah, it was it's
very street level kind of the biggest hitters
are vision and scarlet witch Yeah, yeah But you
got war machine on there at least though Yeah,
I guess vision is pretty powerful and you do
have uh, you do have scarlet witch who? You know
is a wild card as we said because her powers
are still like, you know Whatever you want them
to be I guess at the moment But even that in
itself was almost a little mini Easter egg to
me because a sort of a nod to like how the roster
kept changing in the comics like all the time
like people were coming and going like constantly
and You know, you might lose some powerful characters
and he kind of had to make do with the members
that you have there Yeah, that's true. I did
like that and I feel like in a way like I'm gonna
get a lot of what I wanted out of civil Captain
America civil war I feel like that that more
and more it's just gonna be like Avengers 3 .0
or 3 .5 or sorry Avengers like 2 .5 because it
just the way it's set up and the way they're
moving it because My assumption would be Falcon
would be in that maybe war machine 2 Um, you
know if that if those are the avengers would
they also be in it? I'm i'm curious how that's
gonna work out. So did did you guys think? and
especially after Bruce bander mentioned wakanda
Did you guys think black panther would appear
somewhere in this movie? Yeah, I was I was hoping
like there'd even be like a statue someplace
when they because Is the is the city that they
were in was that supposed to be wakanda there?
Do you or? I guess not Well, yeah, I don't know.
I forget the name of the city. It was like some
weird name that I can't pronounce. But I think
they're supposed to be close to Wakanda, right?
Or in the country of Wakanda, maybe. Maybe because
like he was, you know, he got he got out. So
maybe he was not no longer there. Yeah, because
they were I mean, that's where the vibranium
mine was, obviously. So it was in that country,
I think. But yeah, I was kind of hoping that
he would just kind of. Not that not that they
had to introduce him, but you would see a guy
and be like, oh, that's probably T 'Challa, you
know, like yeah I was hoping I'm not gonna lie
for some sort of reference or something. I mean
they did reference it but they would uh I'm interested
in seeing how because he's supposed to show up
in Civil war or so how that's gonna work out.
Yeah. Yeah um, I had one last like part of the
movie Well, at least that I wanted to ask you
guys about sure. Um Sort of had an issue with
it. I don't know if anyone else did I'm curious
to hear what you think but The whole relationship
between Black Widow and Bruce Banner. What'd
you guys? It was kind of Fun with them flirting
back and forth, but that was the only thing that
I really got Like any interest out of for the
most part Because it was just definitely weird
and it kind of muddled things more at the end.
I think as well Yeah, I agree At first I thought
it it was just gonna be like, okay, it's just
like, you know You know the Hulk has a soft spot
for the ladies so, you know when she shows up
that you know, he gets a little weak in the knees
and but I Putting her in that I felt like it
weakened the character of Black Widow a little
bit and like how That that was my issue with
it. It just seems like it doesn't Seem it felt
like I don't know. That's my issue. It just it
felt like it weakened her character and it didn't
seem It felt like a weak way of giving her more
to do. Yeah and just Just like in general to
me. It just seemed It's no pun intended. I know
Greg's gonna crack up when I say this but the
whole thing just seemed rather stiff to me Green
zucchini Like, it just seemed kind of forced.
I didn't really get the feeling of chemistry
between these two characters. Not necessarily
the actors, but the characters. It's obviously
an interesting avenue to explore, but I don't
think it really worked in this very well. Like,
it felt kind of awkward. And if you'd think anything,
like you would think Black Widow would have that
relationship with Hawkeye or something. Yeah,
yeah, especially after the first movie where
she was so scared of him and Hulk and yeah And
like obviously we learned about Hawkeye. He has
a family He has a wife and like three kids and
he's expecting another one which which was awesome.
By the way, that was like Really cool to find
but just that I felt the whole black widow and
Hulk thing just could have been totally left
out and I think it would have Been fine totally
fine without it Yeah, I agree agree and it's
funny cuz I you so touch on Hawkeye and I think
I Look like I felt like his personality in this
really felt like he came from the matte fraction
comic I thought it was really cool what they
did was him Because he's not getting his own
movie obviously, but I know I wonder if he's
a done after this I wonder if we this is the
last of Hawkeye I don't know if we're coming
back and I'm not sure that's a good question
Could see if any if you're gonna say what event
I I just wonder if there's more to do I feel
like that's kind of this one song and it makes
sense, but You know, we'll see I really like
his scene where they were loading people on the
shield boats and He kind of thinks he's the last
one because he's like looking around and he finally
gets on and he sees like a little boy like Struggling
in the rubble and he he kind of like hangs his
head he's like ah man you know but he goes out
anyway to get him even though like things are
really ticking down like the things about to
like blow up and explode i just it showed like
a lot about his character like i thought that
tied him in with a lot with like captain america
or something like that like i don't know if that's
necessarily caps influence but it said a lot
about who hawkeye is too and like the fact that
he has kids so You know, he recognized that kid
struggling and I thought that part was awesome
that he went out to get that kid Yeah, and I
did a little like little like rivalry that was
between him and Quicksilver, you know, yeah Didn't
see that coming. Yeah, you didn't see that coming
that was spot -on How are you? What is it like
to chase Rocky and Bullwinkle? I do not like
moose and squirrel. All righty, anything else?
I'll probably think of something later, but I
guess... I'm sure. I will probably see it a second
time, so I'm curious if... I had the feeling
after I walked out of X -Media's Future Pass
for the first time where I'm like, I think I
need to sit... See it a second time to really
get my complete opinion on it. So we'll see I
could probably talk more uh, you know thanos
infinity stones all night, so If anybody wants
to talk about that hit me up on twitter or something
Well, we're we're done we're done here so go
away go watch age of ultron go do it now again
for the 12th time just do it Yeah, let's do it.
It needs more money
