Talking in Circles
Supervillain Draft

About this Episode
Hey, Tara Strong here and you're listening to
the Geekcast Radio Network. How did we get this
far? Human beings have an immeasurable desire
to discover. To invent. To build. Our future.
depends on us furthering these ideas. A responsibility
that rests on the shoulders of generations to
come. But with every new discovery, there is
risk. There is sacrifice and there are consequences.
Be ready for what's coming. What is coming? The
answers. You are now on the inside of what I
like to call the circle of trust. We are all
connected in a great circle of life. You know
something, Bert? I think you and I are going
in circles. It feels like we're going in circles.
The circle is not complete. When I left you,
I was but the third. Now I am the last. Because
it's a circle. Yeah, we heard about the circle.
Yes, we're familiar with shapes. Hi, this is
Greg. This is Chuck. And this is Dan, and we
are Talking in Circles, brought to you by the
GeekCast Radio Network, the podcast that's now
referring to raisins as zombie grapes. Today,
we are... Oh, my poor dog. Oh yeah, your dog's
name reeks. I forgot about that. Sorry. Bats!
Zombie dogs are kinda cool. But today we are
doing another draft. We've done a few so far.
We started with a superhero draft, moved into
the action hero draft. So, fittingly, we're gonna
go evil, and we are going to be doing the super
villain draft this time around. For those that
don't know - I'm twirling my mustache hair and
also twirling my pubes. That is vile. That is
a new version of like patting your stomach and
rubbing your head. It's That's just evil to the
imagination. Oh Man, so well, there's a mental
image I didn't need today Well, yeah, we'll get
into more of what the super villain draft will
entail in the short bit But before we get to
that, how's week been going for you guys? This
week has been Uneventful, I don't know I concur
as well I've done nothing but write and then
just have something random on in the background
that I don't have to pay attention to yeah, I
kind of did that too because I was like I Spent
the whole weekend sort of rearranging my comics
and my long boxes and stuff trying to organize
them better Oh God, and like I I took out like
a bunch I found like a bunch more doubles that
I had so I took all of them and everything And
i kind of was like playing some movies in the
background and stuff so that was kind of cool
isn't that like the trials of hercules to try
and arrange and like get everything adjusted
in your long box i had. It could be contained
by by one floor of the house i had two floors
apart yeah you get super spread out with your
stuff there's shit all over the floor there are
piles of comics all over the place and i was
like. Small cities of comic books stacked up,
so you're like Godzilla walking through them.
No, they're like little towers. I was up to like
probably 11 or 12 that night before I got everything
back together and it was crazy. But it was a
glorious time, was it not? Yeah, it was. But
and I one of the movies that I had on the background
was the new Conan movie with what's his name?
Jason Momoa. And I finally got to see that. So
that was cool. But Aquaman? It's probably best
to watch that movie while doing something else.
Yeah, but it kind of made me feel like I had
a comic shop because it's like I'm doing stuff
with my comics and I have like a movie playing
in the background that's from the comics. Did
the guy from Comics on the Green at all show
up and be like, you know? No, because I didn't
see any questions. Very nice, Craig. So you've
been you've been writing at all? You've been
in the writing room? I have been writing but
nothing that will probably get revealed and hopefully
I'll actually finish it as opposed to other stuff
that I write that gets like maybe an eighth of
the way done and I just stop writing and I move
on to something else to write or reading something
so yeah I've probably just been wasting my time.
Hey, I mean, you know, it's good to be creative
in some ways. Can you give a hint of what you're
writing, like format wise, comic book, novel,
story, play, musical? Comic book and the title
that I think I'm going with so far is called
Dead to Rights. Interesting. Yes. I'm curious
if it's gonna be like a return of the superhero
draft where you had that epic story to begin
it and it was like, you know, it was just like,
yeah, bringing up front and like we've lost this
already. Well, I didn't do that this time around
for the villain draft. So I'm not sure if I'm
exactly doing that for the comic draft or for
the comic I'm writing either. All right. Well,
we'll keep that in mind. My week has been. Rather
uneventful as well. I don't know. It's just that
time of year been kind of busy at work. Interesting
enough. We at my work We had a bunch of like
trainings and in one of the trainings we had
to do a role play It was me with another guy
and role play with some lips. Yeah. Yeah, how's
it going? Uh, yeah, he was a pizza deliverer.
Yeah You were a nurse Yeah, no, but uh, it was
the thing regarding like leadership or whatever.
So we wanted to be fun We wanted to have a good
time with it. So we ended up uh role playing
as the new england patriots And I was getting
fired because I only unpumped 11 out of the 12
balls It was just you know, it was a good time.
No, I don't know nothing amazing but it was just
one of those things where it's like it was him
and I are the only guys in the entire like Training
so it was just kind of funny. But uh Besides
that I didn't have the opportunity to watch a
movie and and I'm coming getting caught up with
all the 2014 movies. So I needed something to
kind of cleanse the palate, as they would say,
you know, get a refreshing new taste because
sometimes you haven't really watched older films
in quite a while because you get so caught up
with what's now. So to make the top 10 list and
be ready for the Oscars. So I had the opportunity,
you know, watching some old films. One thing
I did. Is we watch the hustler, but i'm not going
to go in much detail on that because I recorded
an episode of m wire with t of j1 mike that will
be released shortly but the movie i will be talking
about there was this movie called suddenly and
The only thing I knew about it was that it was
starred thanks to natra But I you know did some
research it's directed by louis allen also stars
serling hayden and james gleason And it opens
up on this town that you would associate with
any type of town during the time of Andy Griffith.
You start with a sheriff played by Serling Hayden,
and it's this really tight -knit small town called
Suddenly, ironically because everything happens
really slow there. The sheriff there knows everyone,
it's that type of town. It's just a good old
boys type of situation. Things kinda change though
when they find out that the President will be
stomping in the town for a short while, and also
before the President gets there, Secret Service
have arrived to inform the Sheriff, played by
Hayden, that there was a recent threat against
the President, so they have to be extra tight
-knit with all their security. During the same
time, Frank Sinatra appears with two other characters
that show up at this one house that's overlooking
train station as FBI agents. When the sheriff
and the other Secret Service arrive at that same
house, it's revealed that they actually aren't
FBI agents, but the people that were there to
kill the president. So they kill the one Secret
Service agent, they wound the sheriff, and then
they, along with the occupants of the house,
are left waiting in this room as they wait for
the president to arrive. And 80 % of the movie
ends up taking place in this one living room
with this gun. pointed straight at where the
president will be arriving. In the house are
just a woman who's a widow, her son, and her
father -in -law. What's kind of interesting about
this story is that it's kind of an interesting
reflection of World War II because Frank Sinatra's
character is a World War II veteran. who kind
of has not gone over World War II in a lot of
ways. He became a killer during World War II
and he kind of got addicted to it. In a way,
he's like a victim of PTSD before PTSD was a
thing. And there was an interesting dichotomy
with his character compared to Sterling Hayden,
who's this stereotypical all -American man that's
like if Andy Griffith and John Wayne had a kid.
It'd be this guy. He's older. He's I know, imagine
that. But so they have this back and forth where
Hayden's like, speaking about true patriotism,
Sinatra is, you know, this unhinged, like, crazy
dude who just like, clearly enjoys killing and
he sees this opportunity to kind of get back
to it. So he's doing it for an unknown reason.
He's saying he's getting paid by some government
agency. Clearly this is happening during the
red scare. So a lot of influences from, you know,
a communism scare at that time. It's very heavy
on the propaganda in that end. It's, you know,
it's a little bit dated, but it's actually really
fascinating, mostly because of Sinatra's performance,
who is not a guy I've ever really associated
as a really strong actor. But in this, he's actually
really good. He's really convincing as this crazed
guy who's just out to kill. He keeps the energy
going in the movie for the entire time. Without
him, this movie would not work. It's needed in
some end. It was a thriller for the time. You
know, today's days is a little bit slower pace,
but I think it's still pretty good, especially
for those people that like movies that take place
in one day or take place, you know, in one primary
location. But what's kind of interesting, too,
is that there's a lot of history that surrounds
this film, mainly because, you think about it,
it's a sniper who is killing a president. This
happened in 1955. Well... You know, not too long
after this movie is released, about eight years
or so, President Kennedy gets assassinated. So
when that happened, this film was actually kind
of taken from circulation, so much so that now
it's in the public domain because no one ever
updated their copyright. So you may have seen
a lot of DVDs, bargain bin DVDs of this movie
suddenly just because it's in the public domain
now. So, you know, there's no copyright to it.
It's also supposedly the film that we are Lee
Harvey Oswald watched before he killed John F.
Kennedy that's kind of what the lore to it and
For some reason yoing bull the guy who makes
all the crappy movies that are based on video
games We had a remake in 2013 starring Ray Liotta
and Dominic Purcell the guy from prison break
played Trinity and now era or sorry now the flash
so So the kind of kind of a geek connection there
in a little bit, but yeah, it's suddenly it's
currently on Netflix It's an okay movie. I think
I said it's mostly for Sinatra's performance
You should go out and check it out. But a decent
watch I gave it kind of three out of five stars
and letterbox But it was just kind of fun to
see an older film because I've been caught up
in 2014. What's it called again? It's called
suddenly Suddenly suddenly suddenly Susan suddenly
Susan. Yeah But yeah, so that's what I've been
watching. I've been talking way too much. But
Chuck, I know that you were watching not necessarily
something that was older, but about the past
as well. Am I correct? It was. It was a newer
show, but about something way older. But it was
a special little mini -series that was on the
History Channel this week. It was called The
Sons of Liberty. Which we proved is not a prequel
to The Sons of Anarchy. Right. Right. Totally
different universe. I think it's like the 917
universe or something like that. Oh, OK. But
I hear they're doing a reboot, though, so they're
all becoming one universe. Yeah, that would be
nice. We should talk about that. This is like
a mini series. Like I mentioned, there's three
parts. Each episode was two hours, actually.
So it's like a six hour thing. I'll be honest,
I didn't watch. All of them, but it's basically
about the early American Revolution and like
the events leading up to it in Boston, Massachusetts
and the start of the revolutionary war and the
negotiations of the second continental Congress
and all that good stuff and which resulted in
the signing of the Declaration of Independence,
which I think is kind of an important document.
I'm not sure. It's as important as Twitter. Yes.
Okay, I wonder what wouldn't fit because it's
more than 144 characters, but you know, it's
it's got it's got its importance I'm sure you
can slim it down into into into one tweet Have
everybody favorite it John Hancock would be the
first But yeah, it's I saw good amount of the
second episode and I saw the entire last episode
the finale where it kind of resulted in getting
into the actual war and stuff like that but it
centers around like the main characters that
we all learned about in history class like John
Adams and Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson
and some others but it also talks a lot about
Samuel Adams too and They talk about beer and
his beer. Yeah. Oddly enough, one of the sponsors
of the show on the History Channel. Funny how
that works. But I really thought it was a really
entertaining show. It was great. I guess probably
the first thing that could come to mind because
this this has been happening a lot, but a lot
of people are criticizing it for its historical
accuracy, including me. Including me. Yes. Well,
I read some articles on it and stuff and I started
seeing like how how different things were and
you know you start to realize that it's. It is
the history channel and they are sort of embellishing
to make it look better and but honestly, you
know, you're getting into and you turn on the
station that has a show called ancient aliens.
So how much how much were aliens involved in
that? I was waiting for that guy to come on with
the crazy hair. I love that guy. It's like who
fired the first shot aliens. But yeah, there's
this website. I think it's called all things
liberty dot com, but they sort of. They sort
of give bullet points for each episode as to
like what they got wrong and everything and it's
actually pretty astounding like the things that
they Got wrong, but I wanted to read this quote
from the history channel Like this is what they
affixed to their project and it says that they
they sort of build this series as a dramatic
interpretation of events and a work of historical
fiction because You know, it's not meant to be
an exact telling of the events so to speak but
their little tagline is it says that the goal
of the miniseries was to capture the spirit of
the time convey the personalities of the main
characters and focus on real events that have
shaped our past. But there's a whole lot of gaps
in there that they sort of made assumptions and
for instance they gave i think it was john adams
some pretty crazy ninja skills when he was fighting
some brits. You know, he takes he takes out like
three or four guys in the woods and he's like
he has these ridiculous fighting skills and everything
I'm like, how does that work? I don't know, you
know, he's a William Neeson of his day. I know.
I will tell them in the red coats like Paul Revere,
tell them that I'm going to be taken. Paul Revere
was in it, by the way, but there's really no.
big name actors in this that I'm familiar with.
I mean, there's some that I've seen their faces
here and there, but nobody I could really read
out by name like, oh, yeah, I know that guy.
But I thought the acting was good in it. The
guy that played General Gage for the general
of the British Army. I thought you were going
to say Grievous for a second. Yeah, that's what
I mean, but it's really inaccurate. No, there
was the rules of two, you know, there could only
be two British leaders. This is getting really
convoluted here. I think you need to reboot it.
They. Was it oh yeah, I was talking about a general
gauge the guy that played him actually did a
really really awesome job I really liked him
because you kind of like you're watching it and
you really start hating him really and this guy
is a giant douche and But it just kind of makes
you realize what what a good job He did of acting
in that role, but regardless of how accurate
some of the things are it's really a good watch
I would highly recommend it like they said it
gives you a good feel for the time. It gives
you a feel for the spirit of the time and that
sort of the spirit of everyone unifying to make
their own country and everything. And it was
it was really entertaining watch. I like some
of the stuff was pretty cool because they were
going into like how they they would just take
over people's houses and use them for, you know,
for their soldiers for a place to stay. Some
people disputed whether that actually happened
or not, but. In the one scene they actually go
into john hancock house because john kane hancock
had a lot of money at the time he was very rich
and had a nice home and everything so they sort
of just walked into his house and just like took
his house and sort of made it their own but.
Like i said regardless of whether those things
are true or not the way they convey is really
really good and it's really well done in my opinion
but definitely give it a watch if you're into
history at all for history buff and. I know you
guys are to some degree and I know, uh, I know
Dan, you're into that stuff occasionally. So.
Yeah, definitely. I'm curious with it being a
TV show, like how well is production value? Does
it seem like a TV show or is it, is it kind of
considering kind of the massive, uh, something
like that? It's got things like the costumes
and the staging. Is that like seem kind of real
or is it kind of feel like there's a small budget
there? No, I, I mean, to me, it feels like a
notch above a TV series. Like it's. You know
i wouldn't say movie quality but it's like it's
like in between you know like something you might
see in like a an independent film type of thing
i don't know the costumes are great i thought
you know the the set pieces were really well
done i'm thinking of this one scene really sticks
out to me where they search uh they search this
one guy's farm and they hit all their weapons
and uh They didn't find anything so they they
proceeded to beat the man anyway and that the
guy was just about to shoot him and. A bunch
of the the rebels were gathering in the woods
just outside the field and raised the guy was
about to shoot and they all started firing and
like moan him down. And it was it was really
well done like the way like they built the suspense
and like so they're they're sort of telling the
story but they're doing it in a very. In a in
a way that really grabbed your attention and
like keeps you watching so Obviously in order
to do that you need to be a little bit inaccurate
But you know now I like the way that they the
way they did everything with the set pieces and
stuff so Cool. Yeah, definitely. We'll have to
check it I saw so many previews of it and I just
like I'm gonna watch that when it comes on and
then it did and I missed it Yeah from what I
from what I read it. I got um Each of the episodes
got about three million viewers, which wasn't
as much as the flash premiere, but. Well, that's
real history. Which is up around five million.
So just got to throw that in there. But but no,
that's you know, that's not bad, especially for
being a two hour show. Like I know it's a lot
to ask people to invest that in a TV show, especially
that runs from nine to eleven at night. So kind
of impressive when you think about it. Yeah,
then I think it was history of that one show
too, which was about like the early 1900s like
the the ventures of that time like Like Henry
Ford and a few others. Oh the history of us,
wasn't it? Something like that. Yeah, I meant
to see that but I never did either Yeah, I never
saw that that that looked really good, too, but
I would say like based on some of the bits and
pieces I've saw I've seen from their different
miniseries. This was definitely on par with them.
So If you have any experience with those, it's
kind of like that. This is interesting. Alrighty.
And Greg, I know you didn't necessarily, you
know, you were all about writing this week, so
you didn't get to watch anything, but you did
have a few things you wanted to discuss, so.
Yeah. I'll turn it over to you. First off, I
wanted to get a little bit of a taste drought
for people that I've gotten the fourth book of.
Saga so people can look forward to that coming
up is i am definitely excited to read that i
just pick that up this past weekend and i can't
wait to dig my nose into it and check it out
it is very good. Everything that that's going
on saga is really great one thing i should interject
with sorry i just thought of this as you brought
up saga and i probably should have started the
show with this but saga is nominated for a couple
of geocast radio awards that you can vote on
it by going to geocastradio .com and so are we
we are nominated for best gcr and core podcast
so please vote for us so we can win because that's
what we want to do But we want to be the rookies
of the year, so we're going for it. That's right.
So, yeah, go go to GeekCastReader .com. There's
a banner up top. You just click on vote now there.
All the nominees have been selected based upon
votes from fans. And now we are voting on those
nominees and then there'll be a word show sometime
next month. And we let the history channel write
our disclaimer. So our goal is to, you know,
retell the historical events of pop culture.
In an entertaining way, even if they're inaccurate.
Yes, especially with Anne Frank shitting in a
bucket. That is our goal. Which may or may not
have happened. Sorry to interrupt you, Greg,
but you inspired me, so I had to pick it up and
go from there. No, that's cool. But yeah, definitely
excited to read that. But I also had something
that I wanted to talk to you guys. Well, two
things that I wanted to talk to you guys about.
The first one being. Very much in the news the
past two days. We record this on Thursdays, by
the way Measles no, I don't have measles I have
I have no itchy red marks on my entire body.
So we're all good ladies No, cuz your parents
aren't crazy. You're immunized right also that
But I'm sorry. We're being really mean to Greg.
We keep all the time during all the other episodes
and they're a little bit more spread out. You
guys are just getting me all on. So it's totally
fine. But I just wanted to get your guys' opinion
on the casting for Ghostbusters three or whatever
they're going to name it. Oh, the Ghostbusters
female edition. Yes. Have you guys heard about
that? Apparently, Dan has. Have you heard about
it, Chuck? Yeah. Yeah, I did hear about that
the other day. I just wanted to get your your
input on the whole thing cuz i'm kinda. I'm not
sure how i really feel about it i was like i'm
kinda sprain my ankle. Well so it's not there
no it's most McCarthy person wig katie mckinnon.
And I am completely racist and do not remember
the black lady's name. But I think she's from
Saturday Night Live, too, right? Yeah, she is.
And she kind of like Ernie Hudson. She kind of.
So that's kind of a good casting there, so. I
want us aren't like two or three of them from
SNL at one point in time. Yeah, I think all what
all what? Yeah And Melissa McCarthy pretty much.
It's the same crazy character in all of her movies
for the most part I'm tired of her for a little
bit. So I'm not too too pleased about that Kristen
wig I think okay And I don't know anything about
the two other girls, so I can't really But I
would have liked it if it was just like a total
180 from the original of four guys and just going
four girls. It just seems, I don't know. I'd
rather see like a mix than just all random, all
four girls. No offense, ladies. This is kind
of like my take in just to clear things up the
the other person is Leslie Jones That's her name.
Oh, and yes her in Kate McKinnon are both front.
We're currently on SNL as of right now Kristen
Wiig obviously was on it previously Now personally
like yeah, I agree with you that McCarthy most
McCarthy just tends to play that same role over
and over again I did like it in a bridesmaids,
but I get I get kind of old but she is capable
of doing more like she was She had a decent performance
in Saint Vincent last year where she played more
of a human being. So instead of an amorphous
blob. Yeah, not just like the crazy like I'm
going to. My worry is that's kind of what she'll
be doing the way I look at it I would rather
that or not be a Ghostbusters 3 or remake or
reboot as I like Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters
2 I'm good. I don't need anymore. I'm fine. But
if you're gonna do it I think going with a female
cast actually is a smart idea in the sense that
you're you know, you can't obviously Get the
original cast. I mean Harold Ramis unfortunately
passed away Bill Murray has no interest in doing
it Dan Ackroyd really wants to do it but Dan
Ackroyd Is far past the ability that you know
the really bring someone to a movie in Ernie
Hudson who knows nothing but trouble with Dan
Ackroyd. Maybe they can really make a remake
to nothing but trouble Dan Ackroyd probably looks
like his character from the cone heads by now.
So if you try to get four guys to replace them
I think that you run the risk of they are they
just gonna do impersonations of the other guys
like I know people talk about Shannon Tatum or
Chris Pratt I mean, I understand that and but
I think by doing this you and Going with an all
-female cast you don't have to worry about the
comparisons as much to the original You can kind
of do your own thing. I actually really like
Kristen Wiig. I think she's really funny I think
she's also a really strong actress. She was really
good last year in Skeleton Twins. Yeah, I agree
with that cast Was it I agree with her being
cast? Yeah, the other two I don't know much about
keep him kidding. I for what I've seen From her
inside of nightlife. I really liked Leslie Jones
I honestly not too familiar with so I really
can't comment on on them But I don't know like
like I said it rather it not happened, but I'm
okay with it I'm not I don't think it's gonna
be All that fantastic puff by he or puff I who's
going to be doing the who's the director who
did bridesmaids? He did the heat. He's coming
out with another movie this year called What
is it called something the spy or something like
that with Melissa McCarthy again? I don't know
like I'm worried. It's gonna be just along those
lines not unique You're not like not in the mode
of the classic Ghostbusters. So It's not a make
-or -break for me. I'm about as excited as I
would have been but I don't know Chuck What do
you think? Think I'm kind of feeling I'm kind
of in the same vein you are if it's anything
like Like you mentioned the heat there's another
one she did called identity theft Some other
ones like they were they were sort of funny,
but if it's if they're gonna do that same exact
type of humor It's kind of going to be like,
you know, it's getting a little old, you know.
Yeah. So many times you can see her struggling
to get over a counter that you're like, I get
it. It's funny because she's like, I get it.
And I don't know if you guys are familiar with
the TV show that she's in, Mike and Molly at
all. I have not watched it. I do think she's
very good on there. I think that's a different
role than she has played in those movies. So
she is capable of that. And I didn't see that
other movie that you mentioned in so I can't
really comment on that but I I think if they
really get a good writer and do this the right
way it could be very successful but if it's if
it's that type of comedy again and if it's like
a I don't know what you would want to say like
if it's like a girl power thing and they're they're
all like hunting the ghosts of their ex -husbands
and sucking them up things like that's gonna
be annoying so It's gonna be like Spice Girls
movie. I have zero problem with them casting
four women I think it could be a great idea if
it's done correctly, but just don't overplay
that like Stupid comedies so much. I don't know
It's something I think what made you especially
so good is Bill Murray and without him It's like
I don't know if it's gonna gonna work cuz if
you look at some of those lines that he says
I don't think are funny out of many other people's
mouths are funny because they're Bill Murray,
right and I just, I don't think we need another
Ghostbusters anything to be honest with you.
So, I don't know. Maybe they could bring, you
know what, why don't they just bring back the
real Ghostbusters cartoon and then we can stop
there. Have we done Ghostbusters on our sequel
reboot destroy game? We have not. Okay. Cause
I couldn't, I was trying to remember if we did
and what we said or not, but. No, no, no. But
Greg, I'm sorry, I guess we gave our opinion.
So what were your overall thoughts? Well, I kind
of gave mine. I don't really I'd like to see
it more of a mix than all just women for the
most part. Is it just because you'd rather see
a variety or is it just the idea that like what
is it about casting for women that you find that
you think is. I think it's just the variety for
the most part special since I don't want to see
Melissa McCarthy in there for the most part so
I figure you could at least split it up to the
two I just don't want there's just something
about going the extreme of like okay we had four
guys so now we have to go for women like it I
don't know what it is about that but it just.
It just rubs me the wrong way that since we had
four guys, now we have to have four women. It
just doesn't seem really right to me. Either
way, Sigourney Weaver is one of their girlfriends.
Oh, I guess I guess I feel like a mixture would
just be more problematic, though, in some ways,
because then like you run into the issues of
like they're sleeping together or something.
Yes. Like, you know, yeah, like kind of a relationship
dynamics that could be kind of tiresome or something
like that. I think it'd be a little bit less.
Like why how would that team form in a way? I
don't know plus you can think of like chemistry
wise I wouldn't be against to make sure but it
It would be a little bit more difficult depending
on who you get like if you do like Bill Hader
in there Over like Melissa McCarthy, I'd be like
all for it. That'd be sweet. I don't know I'm
like I want to be against to make sure but I
think I don't know like I said I think the big
thing about it casting for women over Casting
a new for no for new guys is that you don't have
to worry about trying to Redo what the other
movie did you can kind of do your own thing?
I just I'm not trying to be misogynistic or anything.
It just doesn't seem right to me for some reason
All right, fair enough You said you it was another
thing. Yeah, just one more thing I was wondering
if you guys would help me out with the decision
that I'm trying to make As we all know that I
do the Loot Crate subscription where you get
box in the mail every month you pay like I think
it's like 12 bucks every month then you get this
box in the mail and it's got a whole bunch of
five to six goodies in it. Sometimes there's
a puff vinyl figure, sometimes there's t -shirts,
comic books and there's like a lot of Loot Crate
exclusive that you won't get anywhere else. but
today my Twitter has been blowing up with Marvel
declaring that they're teaming up with the people
at Funko who do the pop vinyl and they are doing
collector Marvel's collector corpse or core depending
on how you how you like to say that I go with
the core but uh they they are now coming out
with box subscription and it's every other month
and it is $25 and um let's see i might uh comic
book book resources and i'm gonna just read a
paragraph here the debut box which ships in april
will feature items from avengers age of ultron
including an exclusive six inch iron man hulk
buster pop vinyl which they have uh below in
the photo a t -shirt sporting one of four exclusive
designs, another stylized vinyl figure, and two
premium accessories. I'm wondering if I should
do the Marvel box or if I should stick with Loot
Crate. So far I'm kind of leaning towards the
Marvel box because it's a little bit more categorized
towards more specific something that I like as
opposed to the Loot Crate which every once in
a while goes off my taste a little bit. With
the video game, but they're a little bit more
exclusive video game type of thing fans. So I
was wondering your guys opinions. So it's twenty
four or five dollars per crate or per crate for
twenty five dollars per box. It's not a twenty
five dollar per month thing. OK. And it seems
like they have a little bit more. It sounds like
there's going to be higher quality stuff in there.
And how much is the crate? Loot crate is twelve
bucks a box approximately i forget the exact
price but it's around twelve bucks. If you had
asked me personally i probably would go marvel
because with there's so many with the crater
so many different fandoms like. I am like i'm
not a big doctor who fan and i'm guessing there
probably would be made a possibility having something
from doctor who or other things i'm not into
yeah that's when i got a. What's the the video
game from back in the day where the aliens descend
on the town? It was Mario on Atari The aliens
invade invaders space invaders yes invaders I
have a black tie now with little white space
invaders on it It's a skinny tie and I'm like
I'm not ever gonna wear this I mean, I guess
the benefit is to get two for the price of one
compared to the Marvel thing and the fact that
you did get that awesome kitty shirt with That's
mean the skull yeah there's some winners every
once in a while like the the batman joker pop
vinyl which i really like but this one seems
like it's gonna be maybe like a pop vinyl and
everyone exclusive to that crate so. I would
probably go with the marble one cuz you're i
think. There's not much surprise there, except
you kind of know what you're getting. But at
least you're not getting things you don't like
most more likely, I guess. I don't know, Chuck,
what do you think? Yeah, I would probably lean
more towards the Marvel one if it was me personally,
but only for the same reasons, though, because
I'm mostly a Marvel guy. But yeah, like a lot
of the other fandoms like you mentioned, I'm
not really into. But like you do get some good
stuff every once in a while, though, Greg. So
it's like. You know if they throw in like a star
wars thing or yeah, i just got a exclusive the
first issue of star wars I got a variant cover
for it. That's exclusive to loot crate Yeah,
but it's stories you hear that the darth vader
comic book has like been the most like best -selling
comic book in years That marvel's coming out
with yeah a few weeks. Yeah, I did hear that
really though. I don't know i'm almost thinking
maybe go loot crate because it is cheaper and
My guess is you'll probably get more of your
money's worth, depending on how much you get
with the Marvel one. Just to make things more
complicated for you. I'd say go neither and start
collecting Marvel Legends. Yeah, that's pretty
cool. I'll put some stuff in the show now so
you can check that stuff out. More boxes, things
to buy. That seems to be the thing now. There
are a lot of different ones. There's Nature Box,
which is like a snack food one. There was a Japan
box, which is all like different snacks You can
just get in Japan look like a mountain Mountain
Dew Cheetos and like all those crazy tick KitKat
flavors and stuff No, thank you. You don't like
KitKats I just I don't like the weird combination
of flavors that they put in things like it's
probably Shrimp flavored KitKat. Oh god. Oh that
sounds disgusting They probably have it in Japan
though. They probably do they would but uh before
we go before we take a break we're going to talk
about one quick thing and if it was a release
this week and that is interesting enough we're
going to get in super villains well this team
is goes against one of the best super villains
of all time and that is the fantastic four and
their trailer the you know this highly contested
movie that hasn't even been released yet finally
released its trailer This week and kind of curious
to hear what you guys had to think had to say
about it I know there's not much there you don't
get a huge amount just kind of overall sense
of what it's gonna be like, but Knowing everything
you did going in and now seeing the trailer are
your are you more hesitant or more likely to
go see the movie? I'll be honest. I guess before
I saw this I'll start with that. I had zero interest
in this movie to begin with I actually kind of
liked the first Fantastic Four movies, minus
some of the scripts of the Silver Surfer. But
for the most part, I enjoyed the casting. I thought
Michael Chiklis was fantastic as the thing and
Joan Graffard, I thought did a great job. And
also Chris Evans. I think a lot of different
people could have played the invisible girl,
but I did enjoy those movies. And this one for.
And it's not for like some of the more controversial
reasons, but just for the reasons that it seemed
like they were going to drastically change the
story. That sort of turned me off. But I mean,
looking at the trailer, to me, it looks like
a it looks like a good space movie. Looks like
a looks like an exploration movie, sort of. I
sort of got the the feeling that you got when
you saw the first trailer for like Interstellar.
Yeah, you know what I mean? It's like sort of
that just that sense of adventure and discovery
like you're going out into the unknown We're
you know, we're searching for things and it looks
like a great space Odyssey I'm just just not
sure if it's gonna be a great comic book story.
I Don't know if it's if it's going to convey
the story that well, maybe it will I know Stan
Lee Reportedly, I guess read the script and he's
like a great He's a big fan of the changes they've
made and he's like all on board with it and everything
so So has it written Marvel movie that Stanley
hasn't said it's gonna be great. Yeah pretty
Electra is gonna be awesome. He's like, oh you're
doing another property of mine and making you
know hundreds of millions of dollars. I love
it Stop smiling now, that's what I mean. I'm
not sure if it's gonna convey that same Comic
feel that the other ones did but maybe that's
not necessarily a bad thing Because it may end
up being like like a great space Odyssey like
a really cool exploration type of thing and Like
an origin story. So maybe you don't see a lot
of like, you know fighting with bad guys Maybe
you don't see a whole lot of dr. Doom or anything
like that But I guess time will tell you know,
I I'll look forward more to the second trailer
and see what they have in that Greg, what do
you think? I think it was another more origin
story, because we don't know the origin of Fantastic
Four yet, whoopee. And I thought it looked kind
of like the first Star Trek movie. I'm not sure
if it was because we had a lot of kind of field
situations going on. But yeah, my opinion didn't
change of not super interested. I've probably
mentioned it before, but the Fantastic Four comics
aren't really my favorites because it's just
Reed Richards going, oh, shit, we've got this
giant problem. Run around, run around. Oh, wait,
I just built something. You guys, it's all good.
I just built this machine over here. We're all
hunky dory. So and I seriously don't want to
see another Fantastic Four origin story. It looks
like they're changing it, though. It doesn't
really look like they're getting shot off into
space. Did anybody else kind of feel that way
or is it just me? I felt like they were just
in these containers and kind of like Captain
America kind of transformation type of thing
Yeah, I wasn't sure I almost took it that they
were in that container. They were already in
space Okay, that was kind of like my assumption
because there's that one image of them the like
the ending image of them before them standing
there with like a crazy light Shining from the
sky sky that looked like it was kind of in space
I could be wrong But my I took it as like that
was like they were going in there for protection
from like the cosmic storm possibly or something
Yeah, no, okay, but I like it could be way off
and that I have an idea, but I don't know It
just doesn't seem very interesting to me. I'll
probably see it I'll probably go with Chuck or
something, but I'm not I ain't going so oh you're
not no What's going on I'm not a whole heck of
a lot interested in it. I'm I'm more interested
in the reaction by people like, I don't know,
because I'm not. It's already been told, like
I wasn't excited about the Spider -Man reboot
either, because it's like it's just too, too
soon, too soon. More into the this MCU stuff
with the Avengers. Yeah, see I don't I don't
disagree with the idea of retelling an origin
I guess the idea is the question is how much
of the movie is really on the origin of the Fantastic
Four is it just a small bit in the beginning
or is it the entire film because I agree Re -seeing
an origin does get kind of tiresome. I know a
lot of people Are hating on this movie and for
legitimate reasons there been a lot of rumors
that have come out that are questionable but
the thing that kind of has me the most excited
to just kind of the people that are involved
with it like The cast I love, I actually wrote
an article on Geocache Radio, why the reboot
will work. Just kind of saying like, there are
some positives here. I really love the cast.
Like Miles Teller, I'm a big fan of from Whiplash
last year. Even Spectacular Now. Michael B. Jordan
was great for Fruitville Station. He was in The
Wire. Kate Mara was in House of Cars. She was
great in that. Jimmy Bell has been in a ton of
stuff. He's actually been he was a kid actor
with Billy Elliot and been he's having like a
pretty steady career since then and I liked a
director who did Chronicle and Thought he did
pretty really well with that with a small budget
and made some really inventive action sequences
So I I thought like yeah that there's I know
rumors that Dr. Doom is a blogger or something
like that, which is kind of weird and I'm really
wondering what that's really about. But also
Toby Keble, who was in Dawn of the Planet of
the Apes last year playing Koba, which was one
of my favorite villains of the entire year last
year, was great. So I'm thinking, well, maybe
you could really make this character work. The
trailer, it is really ominous. Personally, when
it comes to the Fantastic Four, Greg, I'm also
not a fan. So hearing that they're changing things
actually has me more excited because... I, the
way I look at it is most people are like Greg
and I think like myself that are not all that
invested in the Fantastic Four. Most people,
you know, you go to cons, you don't see much,
see really anyone dressed up as the Fantastic
Four. It's not a comic people really talk about
all that much. So if anything needs an update
or needs a new take, it would probably be them.
So I'm okay with them kind of more going based
upon what the Ultimates did or what have you.
Not saying it's definitely going to work, but
I think I can get what they're going with and...
Think the tone is a little heavier than I expected
It seems a little bit more serious and I think
interstellar is a really good comparison It does
seem like that like if I watched that trailer
and didn't know it was a Fantastic Four movie.
I would have never guessed it's a Fantastic Four
movie. Yeah, that's the feeling I got I Think
I'm more optimistic than other people. I do think
there's a possibility that this will be completely
awful, but I don't know I I like I kind of like
the trailer personally like I thought I had I
got much more from the Fantastic Four trailer
than I did the Ant -Man trailer just because
I thought there's at least a little bit more
personality in it a little bit it felt like an
event compared to the Ant -Man trailer which
just felt kind of standard so I am hopeful that
it will not be the trainwreck that many people
think it's gonna be but I could be wrong so All
right anything else before we take a break Don't
believe Feels like already. Well, yeah Well,
interesting enough like I mentioned With dr.
Doom. Well, that's a perfect lead into our super
villain draft that will be coming in just a short
bit before we get to that We've got to pay the
dealer and play some man. So we'll see you in
a sec on the simplistic reviews podcast. We talk
movies We talk TV We talk Oh Julie, what the
heck are you doing? Trying to make our spot sound
more exciting by adding explosions Yeah, I'm
pretty sure you could have got the point across
with sound effects. Not the real thing Download
the show on iTunes or if simplistic reviews dot
blog spot dot com I'm sure your insurance company
will cover that. No, they won't. No, they probably
won't All right, and welcome back and yes We're
gonna do another drafts getting into the super
villain draft this time around and this is the
first time you listen to a draft It's pretty
basic runs the same lines and the same rules
as any other like NFL drafts or anything like
that So the order is based upon the winners of
the last time we did something like this when
we tried to create the ultimate Saturday morning
cartoon and For that I finally once after all
these drafts. I finally end up coming victorious
and took first place. So I get first pick. Then
Chuck gets second pick and then Greg. And then
the second round, we're not doing the snake draft.
All gets first pick again, kind of like you do
with the NFL. We did the snake draft for the
first time. It ends up just being kind of more
complicated with three people. So it's a little
easier doing it this way. And we're going to
have five different rounds of. Choosing different
villains we can choose any villains from comic
book universe The only difference is to say if
I choose a villain from say if I take a character
We're not doing superheroes, but if we did superheroes
and I took Wolverine from the age of apocalypse
Well, then no one else could choose a different
Wolverine from a different universe that character
is off the board So any character Marvel DC what
have you anything is available. This has to be
a super villain from comics so and then at the
end we're going to be then explaining what our
team concept is going to be and then at keycastreader
.com I will be having a poll for you to vote
to decide who won super villain draft so rules
are simple good got it good great so let's start
things off here I have first pick Kind of tough
a lot of pressure, you know, don't want to don't
want to do a ryan leaf blow it You got to pick
a strong character You need someone who is going
to carry your team is going to be that lynchpin
is going to be that franchise player that people
can go to so Thinking like there are a lot of
great villains out there some people I look through
a lot of rankings of best villains out there
and no one really ranked this one number one.
But for my story, I think he's perfect. So I
have to go with number one for this character.
Kind of alluded to him a little earlier when
he talked about Fantastic Four. And I'm going
to go with, oh, am I taking it already? You know,
the thunder from Latveria. Doctor. The entire
story was based around that. Fuck me. You don't
even like Fantastic Four. No, I'm kidding. I
didn't mean to take your character, Chuck. I
wasn't sure. I thought, I assumed you were going
to go Magneto. So I'm like, you know, I'll go
with Doom. So I thought, I don't know. Well,
hopefully, yeah. So I'm going Doctor Doom. I'll
get into why very shortly. So I feel bad for
you, Chuck. Yeah, sure you do. Could've done
some trading. Could've got some picks, you know,
later. I don't know what we could've done. But
anyway, so now it's on to you. So Doom's off
the board. Who are you going with? Boy, this
is tough now. I have some other characters that
I don't think you guys are interested in. Although
now I don't trust that notion so much. But I
will try to save those for the later rounds with
my strategy. Oh, boy. Who else would be my leader?
I need a good leader guy. I have a couple of
backups. Is there anyone here that's a good leader?
My name is leader. I think that guy lacks a little
self -confidence when he used to call himself
the leader. He definitely puts lifts and issues.
And this is warhead. All right, let's go with.
Would have been my second in command, but let's
make him the leader. I'm going to go with apocalypse.
Ah, mother. That was my net. All right. Well,
hey, I'm up into trades. You know what? We can
talk about that. See how things go. All right.
So we got doom. We got apocalypse. Off the board,
some epic villains there, Greg. Hopefully, we
didn't steal yours. I am not going to follow
up with a stellar villain here. Squirrel girl.
No, she's not a villain. She is if she wants
to be. I'm going to go with Mystique. Interesting.
Interesting. All right. I think we're going to
take the rhino or something. No. No, Mystique.
Toad. I don't know I Steak is a very I'm going
for a certain thing here you guys I'm going for
a certain thing all women Yes, I'm going for
all the bad girls Yeah, steaks a very versatile
character. She's a very very powerful player
on the chessboard. Yes. Yes All right going with
mystique very nice very nice. All right, so with
my next pick I'm not going to lie, apocalypse
does kind of make me have to change things around
a little bit. Maybe trades will happen. For my
story to work, I do need a powerful character
here. I need someone who can kind of hold his
own in many ways. I'm going to go over to the
land of DC for this pick and I'm going to go
with Doomsday. The person who technically kind
of killed Superman, but uh, yeah, so I'm gonna
go with dr. Doom and my next pick is doomsday
That wasn't the double D's yeah, that's actually
the name of my comic Big doomsday fan, that's
cool. Yeah All right. So Chuck, moving on to
you. I was wondering if that would be one of
your choices, because I do know you like Doomsday.
I can tell you were like listening for the reaction
after you said it. OK, well, I'm up for my second
pick. And this will be this will also be some
muscle for my team. Every team needs a little
bit of muscle. And this is one of my all time
favorite villains. I have a lot of them, but.
He's one of my favorites and that is keen marco
himself juggernaut. That's funny cuz i was like
doomsday or juggernaut like i was gonna go with
either or i'm like i'll go doomsday but i think
it's the same story damn it. I smell copyright
infringement. Alright so we got doom doomsday
juggernaut apocalypse mystique. Greg you're up
again we gone with. I am going and this is gonna
sound like a recent comic that was out i'm gonna
go with lady masterminds there was a recent x
-men where it was misty lady mastermind and a
couple others but i'm not going that way folks
i'm not going that way. So I gotta say, I'm not
too familiar with that character, but it does
sound interesting. She's very hot, and she's,
you know, Mastermind is her father, so they have
similar powers. Except I think he's dead now,
so I went with the girl version, because the
way Stuart Imogen, or however you pronounce his
name, drew her pretty damn well. All right, we're
now moving on to round three, so it's kind of...
Only three more choices gotta be kind of tough.
You gotta clean this out So now that some choices
that I wanted are off the board kind of readjust
a little bit here None of my choices are what
Dan had wanted Well, you know good for you that
huh So right now I have dr. Doom magic intelligence
got to say got my muscle that you know, I need
some firepower and Are you going with literal
firepower? Fireman! Pyro! No, I'm thinking like,
when your character can go through time and get
any weapon he wants, you can get some serious
firepower. When you're one individual that can
nearly take down the entire Avengers, you're
a person to be messed with, so I'm gonna go with
King the Conqueror. Son of a - What the - Seriously
I Just want to get a rise in it like really Not
think anyone else would want King the Conqueror,
but I'll get to I'll get to why shortly, but
so yeah, I'm going with King Alright check it
over to you, okay? Let's see this this character
is I know one of One of your more favorite ones,
Dan, so I hope he's not on your list. But secretly,
I kind of hope he is, too. No, I'm kidding. Let's
see. For my third pick, I need someone who is
going to be a great strategy advisor to the leader.
He's going to be a tactician, a very skilled
fighter. And my next pick is going to be Taskmaster.
Nice, nice. The way I arranged my team, like,
my format, like, I couldn't pick him, but yeah,
I do love that character. So, good choice, good
choice. Alright, Greg, what female character
are you going with next? Not a female character.
Whoa! Hold on. Hold the phone. I am going to
go with a guy that has a big fishing bowl as
a head, or a representation of a head. So, that
is Mysterio. Interesting that I wasn't expecting
that Putting back himself. That's right. You're
a man full mystery now Greg. That's right I got
mystique and I've got mysterious And I could
try and corner lady mastermind into that of the
lady mister mind There's two characters I have
left and I'm gonna go with this one cuz When
you think of my story, I need characters that
can dominate. Those that can go to the hole and
dominate. That sounds wrong. Yeah, I know. I'm
not going to lie. This is kind of where I was
going to go with Apocalypse, but he's off the
board because someone took him from me. So I
got to go a different side. Life's rough, huh?
Dry your eyes. Man, that was cold. I'm just teeming.
But you know what? I'm feeling very evil this
episode. Yeah, yeah. A lot of backstabbing. This
kind of wasn't necessarily on my list, so I'm
going to go off my draft board, because I thought
this character would go early. But he's here
now, and he's kind of like one of the ultimate
villains in all of comic books, and that's Darkseid.
So I'm going with Darkseid with my fourth choice.
Nice. I'm kind of surprised. I know you're a
big Darkseid fan. Chuck, so I thought you'd be
going with him, but I guess you have a different
plan, so I'm kind of curious who you're going
to go with next. He's a very interesting character.
He doesn't quite fit into what I'm doing. He
won't reveal any strategy yet, but I'm not quite
done. Let's see. Let's see. What am I on? My
number four pick, right? Yes. OK. My number four
pick is someone who is the focus of a major motion
picture this year. And what's McCarthy. Yes.
The most vile villain of the. The enemy of modern
day comedy. No, I'm referring to the major villain
from the next Avengers movie, which is Ultron.
Nice. Nice. Good choice. I need a guy who is
hell bent on domination. He can create multiple
copies of himself. be uploaded into any sort
of computer system imaginable, so very formidable.
Very nice. And he has no strings, so there you
go. And he sounds like James Spader, weirdly
enough. All right, so you going with Ultron.
Interesting, interesting. Now, Greg, on to you.
I thought I had an idea of where you're going,
but now I have no idea. What surprises you have
in store now? My next little surprise is actually
really surprising because it's a Superman villain
and we all know Greg's feelings about Superman
Yes, I did talk about myself in the third person.
That's what villains do. So don't don't criticize
but I'm going to go with Brainiac Interesting.
I like I like Superman's rogues better than Superman
himself kind of kind of an interesting combo
there. It's like Drafting a wide receiver after
I receive where you go with Ultron and go with
Brainiac. There are some simulators there. So
this brain interactive construct Nice Greg likes
seeing Superman get killed Basically is what
you're going with that seems our plot of your
story I'm gonna have the steep pretend to be
Batman and trick him and Alright, so we're already
around five, so I have Dr. Doom on my side, I
have Darkseid, I have Doomsday, a lot of Ds there,
and I have Kang the Conqueror. For my fifth choice,
I'm gonna go with one of my personal favorite
villains, maybe not favorite, I just think he's
an interesting concept and kind of a hero in
some instances, but it is Maestro Hulk, am I
saying that correctly? Maestro Hulk, yep. Going
with Maestro. For those that don't know, that's
kind of like an alternate version of Hulk from
the future where Hulk's kind of gone a little
evil and basically taken over the entire world
in the future. So I forget the name of the story
where he's... Do you remember that, Greg? Future
Imperfect? Future Imperfect, where that character
debuts. He even had a cameo in a few issues of
the Exiles comics as well. But I really like
Meister Hulk. And again, when I get into my story,
I'll make a little bit more sense as well. So
that is my team. Chuck, moving on to you, who
are you going with for your last choice? Hard
to top Maestro Hulk. I remember that iconic,
some of those iconic panels where he's wearing
the belt with the other heroes memorabilia on
it. Like he had, you know, Dr. Doom's mask. He
had Magneto's helmet. I think he had Thor's hammer,
Cap's shield, Doctor Strange's cape, and a bunch
of other stuff just showing that he defeated
them all. Yeah, pretty crazy. Let's see, my fifth
guy. I'm going to go with someone you wouldn't
expect on this team, but he has a very particular
set of skills that makes him fit in very well
for what's going to happen if he were a bad guy.
Which he kind of wasn't taken three, I guess
you can say No, this guy has a very unique power
set and that's kind of why I chose him I mean,
he's a pretty cool villain. He's not a big -time
Mastermind. He's more of a muscle type of guy
and then his absorbing man interesting ass Absorbing
who just recently what he appeared on the episode
of agent of shield to start the season if I'm
not mistaken indeed And uh the actor that plays
him actually in episode of pop addled a podcast
He they had the opportunity to interview that
actor and it's actually a good interview So if
you have a chance, you should probably check
that out. It's a it's a good time So just plugging
on the podcast because that's what we do here
All right, Greg you're getting you know, mr.
Irrelevant. So are you going with with your last
choice? I'll give you guys a hint. He was the
main villain And x -men issue number two. Magneto.
No. The blob. No, that was number seven or eight.
You guys are never going to guess his name. He
appeared a couple of years ago in X -Force. It's
shit. No, it's not the shit. Is it William Stryker?
No, that's later. Is it Mastermind? No. His name
is The Vanisher. He is a teleporter. Oh, OK.
Interesting. And he recently appeared in X -Force.
He was really cool on that team because he was
a bad guy on X -Force and he kind of teleported
them around and Wolverine just kind of... Beating
the shit out of him or something like that. I
forget exactly what happened, but he got abused
on that team. So Interesting. Wow you you are
going deep with that one. So that is yeah, very
deep very relevant All right. So now the moment
of truth I know there are some big, you know,
big superheroes or supervillains that were not
taken, including Magneto and Joker, I'm sure,
and a few others. But, you know, it's all about
what kind of fits your story. And personally
for me, Magneto didn't or the Joker clearly didn't.
I needed some heavy hitters, some big powerful
guys. When we did the superhero hero draft, I
went more street level and I got crushed with
the voting. So, you know, thinking you guys want
powerful stuff. I don't know. So but here is
kind of my the tagline, the little bit of information
regarding what this comic is going to be. Villains
have often attempted to rally together to fight
forces of good, but they too often fail. Their
selfish desires and inability to think cohesively
leads to disarray and chaos. After Latveria is
overthrown by the US government forces led by
Nick Fury and Iron Man, Doctor Doom is looking
to strike back. Knowing he can't do it alone,
in the feebleness of forming a ragtag group of
evil minds, he sets his sights on a new plan,
using the most precious resource of all, time.
Traversing all new universes and dimensions,
he forms the ultimate team. With his new trans
-dimensional device, Dr. Doom can give this group
the world, well, at least during their designated
time period, teaming up to take out their greatest
foes throughout time with ease, and then split
up the entire history of time like pieces of
an apple pie. because when the likes of Dr. Doom,
Darkseid, Doomsday, King and the Conqueror, and
Maestro Hulk work together evil reigns. So basically
what the book's gonna be called evil reigns and
what they have done is they split up time. So
each person, Darkseid, has his area of time that
he's allowed to control. Dr. Doom has his area
of time that he's allowed to control. So it's
not about land, but actual time, because of this
trans -dimensional device that allows him to
control the different areas. Instead of trying
to control like a certain location. It's all
about that So I figured to be a different little
take on that because they technically don't have
to work together because they're not in the same
time period But they do in order to keep everything
somewhat cohesive. So yeah, I don't know I don't
know if that makes sense, but it's called evil
reigns spelled with the REI RE IGN s because
I am bad at coming up with titles Sounds very
interesting sounds pretty cool I find it ironic
since you in the last podcast you said there
should be less time travel stories Dan went back
in time and changed the fact that he didn't want
time travel stories That's funny because when
I was doing this I'm like I said I didn't want
time travel stories and here I am doing it, but
that's totally cool. That's All right Chuck moving
on to you I don't have a story i just like these
guys. Nice like burgers no. Let's see doctor
june was my original choice for this but i'll
just say he's away in another dimension or something
that's why he's not involved in this at all but
basically. Apocalypse creates a team of what
he believes to be some of earth's greatest champions
on the evil side of things. some that he thinks
are that really fit into his survival of the
fittest motto and the reason he creates this
team is to execute a manhunt for another person
who is beyond earth who holds in possession something
that apocalypse wants very greatly basically.
Apocalypse has very specific plans for each of
the four allies he has chosen. Each of the players
that he's chosen fit very precisely into his
plan. Each of them have a function, even though
they don't know it yet. They are led to believe
that they are equals in this matter, and Apocalypse
sort of speaks with them about how they share
his vision. For not the Android but they share
his vision for a survival of the fittest and
so forth especially Ultron since he you know
the whole destroying all of humanity thing but
they don't know yet but apocalypse once they
achieve this goal He will actually betray them
all and use the the power that they attain To
take their own and basically in imbue himself
with them basically, you know juggernaut power
from the gem of cedar act absorbing man's Magical
powers and so forth. So I know this may be sort
of cheating a little bit, but there's There's
a sixth player involved. I mentioned earlier
He's not on their team though, so it doesn't
count right? Yeah, sure sure I mean but that
I mentioned before a manhunt apocalypse is in
search of this person because We reached a time
where he's bested the X -Men. He's proved his
worth on Earth and he's ready to take it to the
next level. And he keeps hearing about a certain
Mad Titan who holds in his possession a cosmic
cube. And it's said that everyone fears Thanos
of Titan as the baddest dude in the galaxy, pretty
much. And Apocalypse takes offense to that. and
basically mounts his team who aren't technically
his four horsemen, but Apocalypse thinks of them
this way because he plans to betray them eventually.
So he takes his team to outer space in a wide
search for Thanos and they confront him and they
use their various different powers to sort of
wrest the cosmic cube away from him. And I was
wondering I was like I'm surprised Chuck to go
with Thanos, but I see like in true Thanos fashion
He was there waiting. I had the wool over your
eyes for a while there seems really convoluted
but that kind of makes sense in my head somehow
but uh sort of a You know, he plans to use absorbing
man to like even if they can't take the cosmic
cube from him sort of uses absorbing powers to
Absorb the literal power of the cube into him
sort of a siphon off some of it so that they
have it for themselves and The easy to enhance
the power of the the cedar act gem and so forth
Taskmasters got some strategy there. Do you have
a name for your team? Or did I screw you up by
taking out dr? Do a little bit says I sort of
Part of me wanted to go super corny and call
it legion of doom But I don't know. I think I
don't have a name for the team per se. Maybe
a name for the comic. Something to do is like
maybe I would call it like dual survival or something
like that. Be sort of a play on words there with,
you know, apocalypse is trying to basically pull
the wool over these guys' eyes and survive their
wrath after it all is said and done. All right.
Very cool. Moving on to greg i'm really curious
to hear what you have cuz like i have no idea
where you're going i don't have something written
down or anything too complicated my team is just
here to infiltrate and kind of take over government
organizations and make everybody confused is
all hell. and try and turn them against the heroes
to have everybody kind of revolt against mutants,
avengers, superman, justice league, all that
other stuff. So I want them to take over and
get into roles like Mystique can change and shape
her body into anybody she wants. So she could
look like the president, she could look like
other leaders around the world. Brainiac and
Mysterio can set things up so there can be television
stuff that stuff that goes out into the media
to pimp their ideas and twist everybody around
and lady mastermind can get in people's minds
and change people's viewpoints on different things
and maybe sway people to their direction and
vanisher is kind of a lynchpin member as he has
to transport these people all over the world
so they can make it all happen. Just all right.
I that's kind of cool cuz I think mystique is
a good person to do that cuz she's she tends
to like yeah, so it's a mind game the first x
-men where she takes over for the one senator
who I'm Being horrible nerd and not remembering
silly Kelly yeah and and it's kinda little bit
scrawl invasion which i feel bad about that the
bendis comic. Just get the ending yeah that's
right i've got all those kind of mix together
and i didn't really come up with the title but
i guess with all the missed kinda names i'll
call it the mysterious. Nice alright so we have
you rains my team dual survivors. Chuck's team,
mysterious Greg's team, and what I'll be doing
is putting up a poll at GeekCastReader .com for
you to vote to see what team you felt won the
superhero draft. Every week on the In Session

and we like to end each episode with a letter
and this week We're kind of doing something a
little bit different We did one of these a way
back when and it's from don't reply comm where
there are Correspondence with I'm sorry don't
even reply comm where there is correspondence
between people and regarding Craigslist and This
one that we're gonna be doing is regarding a
hedge trimmer and the craziness that ensues So
the original ad is pull hedge trimmer for sale
Homolete electric hedge trimmer great condition
$50 obo don't know our best offer email me our
best offer. I'm an idiot $50 or best offer email
me at Russ and at gmail whatever address so in
this skit Greg will be playing Russ the person
who is trying to sell this hedge trimmer I'm
going to start as the agitator who likes to play
games with Russ. So the first email is from me
to Greg or from me to Russ. So here we go. I
should mention that in the photo you see the
hedge trimmer, but in the background There's
also a pretty old looking deranged shovel. I'll
put a link in this in the show notes that you
can take a look at it. It's kind of, you know,
kind of one like your crappy like wooden shovels.
It looks like, you know, maybe not in the best
condition. So keep that in mind as we go through
the story. Hey, Ross, that's a really nice shovel
you have in the picture. Is it for sale? Mike.
Sorry, guy. Only selling the hinge trimmer. I'll
give you $10 for that shovel. Can't you read?
The shovel isn't for sale. You drive a hard bargain
on that shovel. I'll give you $15 for it and
that's my final offer. Here is my final offer.
Shut the hell up and leave me alone. Later from
another email account. So in this instance, this
is when the person decided to email from a different
email account pretending to be someone else.
So Chuck, go when you're ready. Okay. Hey, I'm
emailing you about the shovel. Your asking price
of $10 sounds fair to me, and with the free extension
cord, that's a steal. I'll take it. What are
you on about? Shovel isn't for sale. Excuse me?
That's not what your ad says. My ad says nothing
about the shovel. I'm selling the hedge trimmer,
not the shovel. Look again. Nowhere is a shovel
mentioned. Quit dicking me around this ad says
you're selling the shovel and Then a new ad appears
saying I am selling a beautiful Durable and reliable
shovel this bad boy won't let you down no matter
what you're digging Give me ten bucks, and it's
yours. I'll throw in a 25 -foot extension cord
pictured below as well for free Email me at Russ's
email address warning. This is where it gets
kind of you know Controversial. Warning, I will
under no circumstances sell this shovel to any
Jews. So if you're a stinking Jew and you want
to buy this shovel, don't even think about it.
Wait, who's next, Craig? I can assure you I'm
not Jewish, so you can stop pretending you aren't
selling the damn shovel. Oh my God. I swear I
didn't put that up. Somebody's messing with me.
Can you send me the link to that ad so I can
have it taken down? Sorry, I can't find the link
anymore. My wife needed to use the computer,
so I had to delete my browsing history because
I was looking at porn earlier. It was somewhere
in the Stuff for Sale section, if I'm not mistaken.
So does this mean I can't buy your shovel? Now
after that ad was posted about not selling to
the Jews, it led to another email from a different
account. Dear anti -semi -douchebag, I got a
bone to pick with you. I came across your ad
in my search for a new shovel and it seemed like
a great deal. Until I read your disgusting comment
about not selling the shovel to Jewish people.
How the hell do you think that is acceptable
in this day and age? What does it matter what
religion someone is for you to sell them a shovel?
This is absolutely despicable and an outrage
to the Jewish community. You make me sick. Sincerely
not buying your shovel of hatred, Mordecai Goldstein.
I don't have a problem with Jews at all. Someone
else put that ad up to mess with me. I can't
find where it is. Can you send me the link to
the ad, please? Why don't you shovel your Nazi
bullshit to someone else? This Jew isn't buying
it. Now after the ad has been posted, Rush decides
to email me back, demanding the ad to be taken
down. Look, you little prick. I know you put
that fucking ad up on, and you need to take it
the fuck down right now. I'm not selling that
fucking shovel. Get over it and quit being immature,
you son of a bitch. I'm sorry, I thought I was
doing you a favor. I wanted to see how many great
offers you can get if you decided to sell that
shovel. I'm not selling the fucking shovel. Let
it go. Tell me this asshole, if you were doing
a favor, then why did you put that shit up about
Jews in there? Honestly, I detected some strong
anti -semitic undertones in our initial conversation.
I just kind of assumed you were anti -semite.
My apologies. Take the ad down! And lastly, an
email from another account. Good afternoon! I
saw your ad shovel for sale. I'm more interested
in the axe you have in that picture. Are you
selling that axe? I'll give you $20 cash for
it. Dave. That's so cool to do that to someone
but so funny. To be fair, he did have undertones
of anti -Semitism. He deserved buddycap. He tried
to sell a hedge clipper. It's funny. Have you
guys ever tried to sell anything at Crackpot?
I have not. Actually, yes, I did. I sold... I
sold my mom's truck on there. So she didn't know
she didn't know that I was like no, okay I Saw
something once and it was like so really odd
like I don't even when I was selling and I got
a response It was so creepy. It's like saying
yeah I can pay I can give you the money for this
but what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna I'm going
to be calling you at a certain location please
be there pick up a package that you will then
deliver to this other location and you'll get
the money. What is this Die Hard 3? I'm like
yeah I'm gonna not you know transport your drugs
or get murdered by you so yeah. Which is really
odd. Please be at this payphone at this exact
time. Simon says. This is kind of creepy. I couldn't
tell if it was... Pick up the suitcase out of
the garbage can on the right. Then we're going
to need to go to this little waterfall section
to get approximately four gallons in this five
gallon drum and then put it on this weight to
disarm this bomb. Watch out for falling rocks.
It is really creepy though, and it's honestly
very sad, isn't it? Like, there's people that
have actually gotten, like, you know, murdered
by, like, freaking psycho, like serial killers
on there or something. Yeah, there was the Craigslist
killer or what have you. That's why you always,
if you're gonna sell stuff on Craigslist, you
do it on the, you know, you do it at a... It's
a lot of people around. I think that guy was...
Be very cautious on Craigslist people. Yeah,
I think that guy that was with like cuz there's
a you know a personal section in Craigslist where
it's more about you know Encounters with ladies
and man and transgender Don't discriminate Dan.
Yeah, I think this said this anti -semite person
is getting into your head a little bit there
Casual encounters with garden tools Very nice,
but yeah anything else before we bring this episode
to a close. I don't think so All righty, so there
are tons of ways to get in contact with us you
can email us at feedback at geek ass radio comm
or it or Or you can email us at talking in circles
at live comm we're in Facebook and Twitter just
search talking in circles GCRN I'm at Twitter
Twitter at movie revolt Greg. You're so all you
are also on Twitter because it was blowing up
earlier, so Like that package that that guy was
trying to make you deliver I am at the crate
forge Very nice and Chuck is in Twitter in spirits,
but the best way to get in contact with us Like
I said, it's by going to geek cast radio .com
or nerli .co .uk But yeah, but anyways that is
it for this week. We'll be back next week same
time same channel Same podcast feed but for now
this has been Chuck This has been Greg or Russ
and I'm not gonna sell you that damn shovel that
damn axe or anything else and This has been Dan
and we've been talking in circles and we'll see
you next week the ironic thing is 50 bucks for
that shovel. Pretty good deal. I thought that
was really expensive for that shovel. No offense.
It was very rusty. Like you can get a brand new
one for probably $15. I haven't checked out the
depot. Yeah, but that has like the horizontal
handle, which is you can get much more leverage
with that. Oh, OK. It's limited edition. It'll
make them like that. It's autographed by Bob
Views. No, I don't want to get it signed by Bob
Bieler, I want to get it signed by Al. Al Borland.
Al Borland in Finland. Al signed the shovel,
I don't think so.
