About this Episode

Greg, Chuck, and Dan record live in Scranton to discuss what they've been reading and watching. They dive into DC's Kingdom Come and Batman: The Killing Joke, share early impressions of HBO's True Detective starring Matthew McConaughey, and preview TV shows and movies coming in 2014, including Game of Thrones, Arrow, The Flash spinoff, Gotham, and Godzilla.

This is Jason David Frank and you're listening

to the Geek Cash Radio Network. Hey guys, Dan

here. Just wanted to make a quick note before

the episode gets underway. This episode was actually

recorded second because we wanted to get our

Super Bowl episode out there before the Super

Bowl, and this one was actually recorded live

at Greg Beppler Studios, aka Greg's Kitchen Table.

So it took a little bit longer to edit, but hopefully

it all works out in the end. Anyways, on with

the show. Here is Talking in Circles, episode

3, live from the Electric City. You are now on

the inside of what I like to call the circle

of trust. We are all connected in a great circle

of life. You know something Bert? I think you

and I are going in circles. It feels like we're

going in circles. The circle is now complete.

When I left you, I was but the learner. Now I

am the master. Because it's a circle. Yeah, we

heard about the circle. Yes, we're familiar with

shapes. This is Greg. This is Chuck. And this

is Dan. And we are Talking in Circles, brought

to you by the GeekCast Radio Network. Episode

2 here for all you out there. This is a special

live and in -person episode taking place in the

good old Scranton Pia. Maybe one of the first

for Geocast Radio. We tend to do it over Skype,

but we had some time. We do this in actual person,

which is great for those that are joining us

for the first time. You're not alone because

this is only episode two. And what we are with

Talking in Circles is we are the sports talk

show about pop culture. Basically, we're going

to get lost in conversation about a little bit

of everything. And starting off, what we'll do

is talk about what we've been up to in the past

week here in the world of geekdom. And I'll kick

things off here to start. And what I've been

up to is a few things, and this is kind of in

response to... what greg you said last time we

talked a little bit about superman and you mentioned

that there aren't really any great superman stories

and i can kind of see where that's coming from

but uh he's boring he's a little bit i understand

that but i think there are some good ones out

there and what i would point you to is kingdom

come in a lot of ways it is a response to that

criticism that superman's a boring character

that there's not he's past his prime came out

in the 90s and i think you might appreciate it

too because it's on an art perspective because

it's Drawn by al troughs and his part is just

amazing to look at panel by panel and kind of

lost in it and it's very lifelike. Yes. Yeah,

very full realism. Is that the right word? Yes.

All right. Yeah, I don't know much about it when

it comes to art. It's a very famous story. A

lot of people know about it. But the premise

is it's about 50 years in the future. Superman

has retired. New superheroes that are more violent

and vicious have taken over. Yay. We know where

Greg stands, but after a tragic accident Superman's

kind of brought back into the fold and his conflict

ensues. The flash broke a hip. Possibly, but

it's interesting because it is great on that

that criticism of where superheroes were in the

90s is you think about it at that time. That's

what image is hitting big, Punisher's really

not at the height of his popularity, but you

know superheroes are different than they were

and interesting on that aspect and this the story

overall is really in depth and there's the main

character that's kind of in it too as a specter

um i think that's how you say it who plays in

the background and uh the the art is fantastic

like i mentioned and it's just written really

well it's one of those Comics and graphic novels

that you can show people and say hey graphic

novels and comics are written as well as any

Novel out there because it's it is I mean the

the wording and everything is very existential

and philosophical Philosophical again, yes So

yeah, I would recommend that even if you're not

a Superman fan and a lot of people probably already

read it I heard of it, but I'm apprehensive to

DC. I'm a Marvel guy. I think we all are but

so but Who was the author of that damn thing?

Do you know offhand or...? I do not. I'm gonna

say... I don't know. I will get back to you and

I'll check that out. I should have researched

this beforehand, but I didn't because I am ill

-prepared. But anyways, and I just want to talk

about one thing real quick. It's only one episode

in, so I can't talk about it in great and depth,

but it is a new HBO... tv drama cop drama called

true detective starring like the man of the hour

matthew mcconaughey who recently nominated for

an oscar for that was virus club and also a huge

everybody start bumping your chest yeah also

using wolf of wall street he would keep doing

that entire episode apparently that Uh, you'll

wake up with big bruises on your chest. That's

the main reason I didn't want to see that movie.

But yeah, but the show True Detective, it's interesting

because it takes place in two different time

periods. Matthew McConaughey and Riley Waterhillson

play two partners, but 17 years apart, you have

one crime going on and then they're bringing

any of you 17 years later. Don't really know

why yet. It's just interesting seeing those two

characters that far apart and both of those actors

can pull it off. It's really moody. It takes

a different spin on the whole genre of serial

killers because there's tons of serial killer

shows out there, but this is a little bit different.

It's not really about the serial killer or the

case. It's more on the characters. And I love

Harrelson and McConaughey and both of them are

just really interesting. And what's cool about

Harrelson, Harrelson's character is he's just

a general guy. He's just, he's not a super cop.

He's just a normal cop who makes mistakes. He's,

but McConaughey is more of a savant. He, he's

an interesting like Extrovert, I guess he says

things that really make no sense to a lot of

people in real life and in this show If you're

a fan of any of those guys or you're if you do

you're looking for a different spin on crime

dramas Check it out. It's only one episode in

next episodes coming in soon. So and it's also

looks fantastic. I guess I will Sometimes it

can look fantastic and not have naked people

Maybe and there might be naked people. I don't

know actually there are but they're dead bodies

I don't know if that goes for you, but not into

necrophilia. Sorry Thank God. All right into

dead people zombie wise not people inserting

things into Well, unless it's a head and you're

killing them Well, yeah, an axe through the head

if they're the undead. That's fine. That's standard.

Yes. Alright, so I guess I will throw it over

to Greg real quick and we can talk about what

you've been watching this past week. I found

a really great movie on Netflix. It was an independent

movie, which I'm not too big on independent movies.

It was really good. It was really fanciful. It

was called The History of Future Folk. Weirdly

enough one of the I think it was like in the

second scene we get to experience the acting

chops of D Snyder which I don't think you get

a lot of movies with him in it. I don't believe

so Unless you count his music and the thing is

I don't think he was that bad in it because When

his when he was off screen, I kind of forgot

about his character. He wasn't awful enough that

I remembered him He wasn't so good that I remembered

him either But it was just kind of in between

which I I think kind of fit with being a second

a second or third to your character. It's a little

bit weird because pretty much the movie is about

this alien that comes down to try and start off

an invasion of Earth with this virus that will

make people fall asleep because his planet needs

another place to live because there's a meteor

coming their way. So they find Earth and decide

that that's the place to go. So they send this

general down and he's gonna set off and set off

this virus and everybody's gonna fall asleep.

Aliens are gonna come in. attack the planet pretty

much take it over but this general that they

send down finds love for music because apparently

there's music nowhere else in the galaxy but

here which i found a little bit odd but even

odder than that as he's going through the store

he listens to music gets really into it then

he magically finds a guitar The fact that he

knows the guitar is the instrument that plays

this music because he has only been listening

to it on a radio I find to be a little Outstanding,

but then he starts to like he doesn't actually

play it. He kind of more air guitars it which

that kind of blew my mind I'm like, he knows

how to hold it and everything. That's impressive.

He's an advanced species though. That's good

Yeah, they do cover that up later on when when

an assassin comes to take him out who they become

friends throughout movie sort of but you kind

of find out later that they they do pick up on

things really well because he kind of comes up

on stage and plays in this like little rock band

type of scenario because the general that came

down all of a sudden starts playing a rock band

he's married with a kid and he's kind of using

his whole backstory is kind of like a fictional

tale where he plays music about and everything

and the music in this in this movie is is really

great But it's it's very fanciful. It doesn't

take itself too seriously because their outfits

from their planet Are very weird. They have buckets

on their head, but they kind of make fun of that

in later scenes, which I thought was uh Great

and it's a trading between serious and funny

at the same time and they do make up with some

of the makeup later on When the the true villain

comes in his makeup is really great. It's just

a fun fun movie You can't take it too seriously,

but I think it's great and the characters falling

in love finding their reasons to save the planet

It's it's just an amazing movie altogether. I

saw it, too I actually talked about a little

bit on MWIRE and the way I described it It's

like that movie inside Lewin Davis crossed with

John Carpenter movie with a mix of the Power

Rangers. Go, go Power Rangers! Yeah, that's a

good way to go with it. The music in it is really

good. It's really, it's self -deprecating in

some instances. It's a fun film for sure. Like

you said, it doesn't take itself too seriously.

And for the budget, which is obviously is really

cheap because there are scenes of them like running

through New York City and you can tell no one

else on the street knew they were shooting a

movie because they're just looking at them really

weird. When they run over the bridge, people

are stopped at the end of this bridge and you

can see the expressions on their face. going

what the hell is going on here what are the people

wearing buckets on their head it was yeah I'm

surprised no one called the police because the

guy's running around with like a fake ray gun

I guess I just assumed that's just it's Wednesday

at New York City yeah is there a comic -con in

town maybe they did it during comic -con weekend

so it made sense but yeah cuz they kind of do

look like comic -con outfits in a way I could

see them like if this becomes popular Like every

comic -con will you'll have a slew of these because

they're easy out to do it. I'm guessing Yeah,

and they're very lovable characters too. Even

the assassin the first assassin that comes down

he he's very humorous character I I thought and

what how did you how did you check it out? I

found it on Netflix. I was just flipping through

and I believe the image they had for it For the

little icon was them with the bucket head on

and I was like, what the hell is this? And then

I read the description saw that it was a science

fiction thing. It was comedy so that it was just

kind of Whimsical looking and and the the title

kind of got to me and so I decided to watch it

the one day It was it was really good. Cool.

Cool. You've been watching anything else another

a find on Netflix Which I think just recently

came on there was a sexy evil genius That I have

not seen. I right off the bat, I'm going to tell

you that I really loved it. Are you into kind

of an autobiography? No, no, I'm not that delusional.

It's kind of dense, but it's kind of like done

it type of movie. But backwards, it's very dense.

It's got some great actors in it, though. It's

got Seth Green, Katie Sackoff, Anthony Michael

Hall, Michelle Trachtenberg. And one of the bald

ones. I can't keep track of the bald ones. I'm

sorry, everybody. All I know is Alec. I think

he's the most well -known, famous. The one that

hates gay people, the one that makes fun of gay

people, or the one that is gay. Mind blown Yeah,

it's the most famous one he's one that was on

30 rock the one that looks kind of like his face

is blown up in the last few years Yeah, but you

see he's still a good -looking gentleman. Yeah,

I would call him sexy evil man Yeah, but the

sexy evil genius in this though is Katie Sakoff

who does phenomenal if you ask me she is treading

between she seriously treads between sexy evil

and genius she pulls it off well i thought is

she i don't i'm not familiar with her is she

and she was in um the newer version of battle

star galactica she was playing what used to be

a male role which they switched to a female and

i'm having trouble remembering the the character's

name which i'm probably going to get a whole

a whole lot of shit for everybody did their parts

really well sets green kind of plays his his

typical part in the movie where he's kind of

a uh intelligent man who's very nerdy and kind

of eccentric but that's the parts we kind of

look him in and everybody else fills in their

roles pretty well like i said it's kind of dense

you really have to pay attention to it because

everybody's it's essentially they all meet up

at this bar and they all knew katy sakoff's character

before and they they kind of knew some of them

knew about each other like a little bit from

katy sakoff But none of them know exactly why

they're there and they're trying to figure it

out the whole time While waiting for her to show

up and while waiting for other characters to

show up. Okay, and there's there's some little

things in there that point to Katie Sakoff's

character murdering somebody and Having recently

gotten out and so these people aren't sure if

what they're there for It's just incredible.

It's who's done it type of movie Okay, cool.

Anything else you wanted to check out or talk

about? No, I think that was all I got done this

weekend. All right, Chuck, I guess we'll pass

that on over to you. Anything you wanted to talk

about? You've been watching, listening, reading,

thinking about, drawing, I don't know. Anything?

Well, I have a couple of things on something

I've been watching and a couple of things that

I've been reading. First off, I wanted to start

off with, have you guys been following Agents

of Shield? I stopped the fifth episode in, so

now I have to catch up. I think I stopped around

seven. I'm not exactly sure. I haven't been keeping

up either. I'm still hanging on. Stage five,

Clinger. But I'm really hoping that it starts

getting better. It's just really not what I expected

it to be. I could really understand why you guys

stopped watching it. It's just kind of mediocre.

There's no actual superheroes going on from what

I watched up to it's it's all been like mostly

street level type like, sea level characters

that I really don't have any feeling for. Yeah,

that's been the big knock on the show without

giving really anything away, and I know you guys

want to probably catch up on them at some point,

but they kind of cover what happened to Coulson

after Avengers. That was the only serious thing

that was keeping me attached to the show at all,

quite frankly. Actually, I was kind of even disappointed

with the way they... presented that. I heard

rumblings of it, like how it kind of worked.

He has three testicles now. She did it. I was

really interested in that portion of it, too.

So I looked it up. I know what happened, but

I guess I don't know how it happened. It's the

best way to explain it. So have they gone into

that, like how it happened? Not really. I mean,

they're kind of keeping it like, you know, shrouded

in mystery for a little bit longer. They kind

of just said that he died and they showed a little

bit and that was about it. But it's really kind

of anti -climactic. I'm going to finish out the

season just to see where it goes. But did Brian

Michael Bendis write that? Because that's how

his stuff. Probably. Yeah, probably. I did hear

a rumor. I don't know if you guys heard this,

but I heard that Lady Sif from Thor is actually

going to appear in an episode. I don't know.

I don't know if there's any truth to that or

if it's just a rumor. I have heard that. I've

just seen like the title for the most part. I

didn't go into it much more than that. Yeah.

Because I guess they're getting a lot of complaints

that it's like, it's a superhero show and there

are zero superheroes on it. Oh, you mean that

thing that I said before? Yeah. Well, I heard

they're going to have Stan Lee in it too. Has

that happened yet? No, it has not happened yet,

but I did hear that in the last week that they're

playing that. Oh well, hopefully that gets better.

Are you watching anything else? Um, I'm not really

watching anything else. Been reading some stuff.

Using up some Amazon gift cards that I got for

Christmas and stuff. Picked up some graphic novels

on there. I did read, uh, Batman the Killing

Joke. Okay. Um, which is kind of a classic, I

guess. I don't really think I'll be ruining anything

because that's been out since like the 80s, so.

No! Spoilers! No! Bruce Wayne is Batman. I know

who the red hood is That's an insect joke, but

sorry Everybody I know who it is I could tell

you right now basically like if if you don't

really remember the story that well It's kind

of like the origin of the Joker But there's also

a story going on in the present where he's shoots

Jim Gordon's daughter paralyzes her and you know,

he holds Jim Gordon in this like Abandoned carnival

and strips him down naked and basically tries

to break him mentally He's trying to prove a

point that it just takes one bad day to drive

a sane person mad but I really thought some of

the stuff about the Joker's origin was pretty

interesting like He actually was trying to make

it as a stand -up comedian and he really wasn't

making any money because he kind of sucked and

So it's Carrot Top. Yeah, minus the props. Carrot

Top is actually halfway decent. His older stuff,

I believe, is better than I haven't seen in any

of his movies. And nowhere near as ripped as

Carrot Top. That guy's like a beast now. So he

looks like, his face looks like it's decaying.

The guy from that one Cher movie? Yo, the math.

That's all I can think of. Sorry, Carrot Top.

You're probably the nicest gentleman ever. I

shouldn't say things like that. I'm going to

hell for it. It could have been more if you could

have said he looked like Cher. We'll put a disclaimer

at the beginning of the podcast. If you're Carrot

Top, please don't listen to this. We got Carrot

Top and Brian Michael Obendis so far, and we're

two episodes in, so we're aiming high. Carrot

Top's parental discretion was advised. Honey,

don't watch that. It's a podcast. You don't watch

it. But anyway. But he has a wife and they're

expecting a baby and you know his wife is kind

of on him because he's really not bringing in

any money as a stand -up comedian. And I mean

the other thing is they never really say his

name. Like you know in the Tim Burton movie they

said it was was it Jack something? Say my name.

Jack Napier? Is it Jack Napier? Yeah Napier or

Napier, however you say it. But in the in the

killing joke they never actually say his name

which is kind of cool. It leaves a little bit.

Little bit of mystery but but anyway, he's desperate

from when he gets in with the red hood gang.

They still know who he is He knows it's red hood

But um, it's Sorry we're losing them But they

they try to like they get him to wear the hood

so that they can kind of pin the evening's activities

on him if he gets caught But in the stuff going

on in the present is like really sick and twisted

too. Like the stuff that he's doing with, uh,

I forget Jim Gordon's daughter's name, actually.

Is it Barbara? I thought Barbara is his wife.

I could be wrong. I believe Barbara. I'll look

it up. It could be both. It could be Barbara

Jr., I guess, maybe. But it's really sick. Like

he takes, he takes her clothes off and takes

pictures of her and he shows them to commissioner

Gordon, just trying to break them and stuff.

He doesn't to his credit when Batman arrives

he finds out that he's still in the same sane

state of mind It is Barbara. It is Barbara. Okay,

and the the weird thing is like at the end like

Batman like actually extends an offer to the

Joker because the Joker kind of says, you know,

obviously you had a bad day, too Or else you

wouldn't be dressed like a bat, you know jumping

around the rooftops and Batman said yeah, but

the difference is, you know, I didn't go mad

I could work with you, I can teach you how to

deal with it. And I think for the first time

that I've ever seen, the Joker actually gets

serious for a second and he just says like, no,

it's too late for me. Like he just flat out turns

down his offer and like a little tear comes down

your eye. But the weird thing is the thing that

I hated about the ending is the Joker says it

reminds him of a joke. The whole situation reminds

him of a joke. and he tells this joke and I can't

remember it but Batman actually laughs like he

kind of laughs at the end and I'm like I just

don't think that would happen I don't see Batman

laughing because he always just kind of stares

at you no matter what you're saying but I think

that ending had a lot of scrutiny from fans and

stuff from what I've read anyway yeah I know

a lot of people and there's been a lot of talk

about how people take that ending because I know

a lot of it's like Some say it's a little bit

ambiguous, but some say that he actually killed

the Joker at the end. Yeah, because he reaches

across, you see like a silhouette and he's like,

you know, hitting him in the chest or doing something

there and they don't really say. For the viewers,

Chuck just kind of made a jerk off motion with

his hands. To Greg, it appeared as a jerk off

motion. But I mean, that kind of leads into the

other question I had. Do you guys think that?

It's good to tell a Joker origin story Do you

think it's better to kind of leave his whole

past like shrouded mystery because that kind

of makes him who he is I think it's better to

leave it as a mystery because I think the thing

about Joker's you never understand him or Understand

his motivations. So if you give him an origin

it puts it It answers that question that you

don't want answered. Yeah, and it kind of kind

of gives some some Sympathy and relatability

and stuff like that I think if don't want to

know his feel that strongly where you don't want

to know his origin Just don't read the book and

don't listen to this podcast Just forget what

you just heard right now But I know a lot of

people make have made the claim that that origin

is not is I'm designed just to be the origin

but because there's been some takes on it where

It's like the Dark Knight every time he talks

about how he got the scars. It's a different

story. So Some people have even mentioned that,

like, the idea behind the killer joke was that

it wasn't meant to just tell the origin, but

just be, like, one of the many, I guess. Yeah.

Well, yeah, I mean, you could also look at it

in a way, like, I mean, Joker mentions several

times in the comic that his past really is kind

of fragmented to him. He really can't remember

all of it. So maybe that's kind of a clue to

the reader as, like, you know, this really might

not be the actual truth about how it happened.

I mean, this is kind of like the the movie that

I was discussing before, Evil Sexy Genius, Katie

Sakoff's character is kind of like a Joker type

of character where you don't really know whether

she's lying about her past. See everybody, we've

actually got something to come to a full circle

when we talked about it. Callback. Evil Sexy

Genius, Killer Joke, Circle. It's a circle. And

then Batman the Detective, which goes back to

True Detective. Show over and we're done. See

you next week. No, the show's completely over

now. We just ruined it. We set out for a goal

and we hit it within an hour and 30 minutes.

So we're not saying we're the best podcast ever.

We're just saying we shouldn't be nominated.

We're just saying we're the most complete podcast

ever because a circle is always complete. Yes.

It's circle. But the other thing I wanted to

bring up about the killing joke was I got the

deluxe edition, which is actually recolored.

from the original printed version that came out

in the 80s. I don't know if you guys are familiar

with that at all. No. But they actually, I think,

I think the artist's name was Boland. Was it

Tim Boland or something like that? I will look

it up for you. He, I guess he wanted it colored

a certain way when they did it back in the 80s.

Like he kind of wanted it colored darker and

he wanted the flashbacks black and white and...

It's Brian Boland. Brian Bowen, that's right.

Or you can say Al Bowen from Home Improvement.

I don't think so, Chuck. Greg is my assistant.

He assists me. Back at that time in the 80s,

a lot of things were bright colors and just that

was the way it was. So that's how they did it.

And he never got to see the book done the way

he wanted. So they kind of remastered the deluxe

version. And it was kind of more of what he actually

wanted. I mean I kind of like it. It's it's pretty

cool with the three colored version. So if you

get a chance to check out the deluxe versions

It's pretty cool. I think that's probably I read

and I've read the killer joke and I was the deluxe

version But I didn't even realize it at the time.

So yeah, but that's interesting I did find a

site and I I don't know where it is now somewhere

lost but Internet. Yeah somewhere somewhere in

one of the corners of that thing It had like

kind of a split screen comparison between the

old version and the new version, the colors and

stuff. Do you have a preference? Uh, I don't

know. I mean, at first I kind of liked the original

colors, but then after reading through it, I

kind of liked the remastered version, the recolored

version. Cool. The only other thing I read was

Spider -Man Sinister 6, which is a collection

of Amazing Spider -Man. I think it's like 332

to 337, somewhere in there, in the 90s. I guess

I was kind of getting ready for what they're

going to try to do with the Amazing Spider -Man

movies, because there's rumors of them introducing

enough villains to make a Sinister Six. Yeah,

and even possibly making a Sinister Six movie

as well. Yeah, and I've actually always liked

that villain team because... Well, I really liked

it on the old spider -man cartoon from the 90s

Yeah, even though it was called the insidious

six, but I guess they couldn't spend the money

for the word sinister. I don't know Yeah, they

couldn't they couldn't corral the copyrights

on the word sinister So that was that was on

the x -men cartoon with mr. Sinister. So they

didn't want to confuse people I guess sinister

is too bad of a word. It's like yeah Sinister

is a little too much for Saturday morning cartoon.

I think Disney actually owned the word sinister

up until until they got They got they bought

marble and so now they could actually use sinister

on everything Or they said let's use insidious

because kids don't know what that means I mean,

yeah, I won't go into a lot of detail about that

one, but there's some great art in that and The

classic 90s art that I grew up with I I love

that stuff the bright colors for I mean spider

-man You guys know has one of the best rogues

galleries like any character. I'm in batman usually

Yeah, his villains are so colorful too, you know

like green and yellow and so who was actually

part except There's been so many different versions

of the sentence center six Who was actually part

of the the first center six? Do you remember?

I don't know the mic. Uh, the first one It's

actually included in this in this volume that

I got, it was from Amazing Spider -Man Annual

Number One, I believe. It had Craven, Sandman,

Electro, Doctor Octopus, I wanna say, was it

Vulture, and Hobgoblin? Mysterio. Oh, Mysterio,

yeah, Mysterio. Hobgoblin was in the later one

of the 90s. They replaced Mysterio with Hobgoblin.

Hey, that kind of comes full circle about what

we were talking about last podcast with Stanley's

writing. Back in the 60s, it was really simplistic

and, you know, just over the top explaining every

little thing. We're going to have the whole set

of Olympic rings by the fifth podcast. A lot

of circles here, but I appreciate the old Stanley

stuff, but I really liked the newer stuff from

the 90s. I mean, that story was, I think, written

a lot better. I think it might have been written

by David Michelini or however you say it. Guess

as good as mine. He was a pretty good Spider

-Man writer there for a while. I like his stuff.

So yeah, that's pretty much what I've been up

to lately. Alright, and talking about circles,

that kind of gets into what we'll be talking

about when we come back from break. Yeah, and

we're good. Yeah. That wasn't even planned on

the spot ad -libbing circle talk. Wow, a lot

of circle talks. Anyways, as we are in the early

months of 2014 and talk about what we're looking

forward to this year movie wise book wise all

that good stuff and A little bit more for you.

So we're gonna take a break and we'll be back

in just a bit It has such patsas in it. The Pull

Bag is GCRN's comic book review and discussion

based podcast. Join me, your host, TF2 and Mike,

and the rest of the GCRN crew as we make our

way through the comics we are reading. Inside

The Pull Bag you'll also find back issue classics

and origins episodes of how we got into comic

reading. You can find The Pull Bag every Wednesday

on iTunes and on www .geekcastradio .com. Make

your great escape into comics and jump into The

Pull Bag. today oh yes but think of the fun all

right and welcome back with it being the beginning

of 2014 some you know people are setting their

plans out what they're gonna be doing and part

of that is you know what would be watching listening

to reading all that good stuff so we're gonna

talk about stuff we're looking forward in 2014

and hopefully by the end of this year our expectations

will not be diminished. I'm not going to go personally,

I won't go in depth a lot of it with movies,

because I'll be posting my top 30 movie article

on Geocache radio, so make sure to check that

out. We are not important enough to hear this

information right now. And also what we're talking

about at an MR, but sure Chuck and Greg have

a lot of stuff they want to talk about. And surprisingly

enough, 2014 has a lot of TV I'm looking forward

to. Which is unlike me, so I guess I'm changing.

Times they are changing. And one big reason is

a lot of stuff I have watched is coming back.

And I don't know, have you guys ever watched

24 at all? No. No, I've actually never watched

it. Okay. I got into it, interesting enough,

wow, a few years ago, right before the last season.

And this is when Blockbuster was still open.

And we ended up what we ended up doing because

we didn't have, this is before really streaming

was all that popular edit is now. So we had this

deal with Blockbuster. It's like, you play $20

a month and you can rent as many things as you

want, as much as you want basically. Is this

why they went out of business? Partially, this

is partially. So we watched a lot of 24. We kind

of started at season one and walked our way through

and I'd have to go by and get a new disc every,

not every day, but I got known as like the 24

guy because of this. So it's just like, it was

kind of random. It's better than the guy that's

down the block from where we're at right now.

We got called a squirrel guy. What did he do

to squirrels or do I not want to know? i don't

think you want to know because i i i don't remember

and i don't think i want to know i think i expunged

it from my mind but uh but anyways the reason

i'm bringing 24 up is because it's actually coming

back in 2014 but it's not going to be 24 episodes

it's going to be i guess 12 or so keith or sutherland

is coming back as well so i'm curious how that's

going to work it seems like they're sticking

with the 24 hour format but adjusting it so much

is good because what you had a lot in 24 because

of the fact that like each episode was one hour

that took place in real time and you had 24 of

them was you had a lot of like filler episodes

a lot of filler plot lines of stuff that's like

you all this is just taking up time so this guy

can drive an hour away in this episode so um

hopefully they can get rid of that so it was

a gimmick that worked i think is it was interesting

but it by the last season it was just like okay

we get it like so just hopefully with 12 episodes

they can get around that and then some ones I'm

not gonna talk a great deal about but Game of

Thrones is coming back which I'm a big fan of

I love the first two seasons looking forward

for that coming back they need to put that on

Netflix so I can watch it yeah only thing is

HBO won't do that but uh there's HBO go and Greg

I can I can hook you up alright And I'll also

let you watch Game of Thrones. Also coming back

very shortly, it already came back in England.

What is Sherlock? Have you guys ever checked

out Sherlock? I love Sherlock. They came out

with Elementary. I'm not sure how much later

they came out with Elementary, but I refuse to

watch it since Sherlock has been so good. I don't

want to ruin Sherlock Holmes' mythos by watching

Elementary because I think BBC is doing it so

well. Have you checked it out, Chuck? No, I've

never seen that. Okay, well, for those that have

or haven't, what's interesting is similar to

24, all of it's in the format. There are only

three episodes per season. There's been two seasons

so far. Each episode, like I said, is three episodes,

but there are 90 minutes each. So it's, you know,

it's your classic miniseries. So each episode,

each season is three episodes. And with only

being three episodes, they have high production

value. It feels like a movie. I do like like

the Robert Downey Jr. movies, but this is so

much better. It takes place in modern day. Martin

Freeman plays. Watson's Cumberbatch is Sherlock.

Cumberbatch is fantastic, and that's Sherlock.

A lot of people know him from Con. Spoiler alert,

he played Con in Star Trek In the Darkness. No,

you ruined it. Yeah, but so looking forward to

seeing that comeback. Walking Dead coming back,

it's really, it's the second part. Okay, no spoilers

on that one, please. I need to watch that one.

Yeah. Cut up on four at least, like we're four

in that. I think I finished to the end of season

2, and I think they're up to season 3 on Netflix.

I just haven't gotten around to watching it.

So I usually watch stuff at work is when I have

the most time. And I don't think anybody really

wants to see that at work. Well, I mean, we need

to talk about it, so we can get caught up here.

Should I go into the other room? Greg, go into

your corner. You're going to get a great corner.

I guess without Shux or Choo talking about it.

You've seen, you've watched it. What are they

in season four now? For Walking Dead? Yeah. Yeah.

They're coming back. We're not talking specifics,

but I guess generally have you liked the first

half of the season? Yeah, I think so. I thought

it was pretty interesting what they're doing.

Kind of new threat for the season. I thought

it was interesting. I could definitely see it

happening if that was happening in real life,

you know, something that's believable. So I thought

it was cool. Yeah. And what I liked about the

season four. halfway point was like the season

finale we wanted in season three. So I was glad

that came. One thing I didn't notice like the

early seasons of Walking Dead, it seems like

kind of like there was people dying left and

right on some of the episodes. But it seems like

now there's a little bit more stability with

the characters. Like you're kind of on there

longer. Yeah. That's one thing I noticed. Yeah.

I think there's not as many cannon fodder characters

that just are there to die. Right. So I'm curious

what's going to go in season the rest of season

four because it left off in a really straight

not strange place but really uh the last episode

was pretty insane and everything that happened

so yeah definitely um also coming out house of

cards season two the netflix original series

i actually haven't finished the first season

so what i saw i like for those that are breaking

bad fans they're getting the breaking bad spin

-off better call us all with uh baba odinkirk

uh it's supposed to like be a prequel -ish i'm

assuming it's gonna be a lot different than breaking

bad and To me, the last season of everything

you've had is like some of the best television

that I've ever seen. Just happy to be back in

that world again. And Greg, I think Greg and

Chuck, you both were looking forward to this

and that's the Gotham TV series that's possibly

coming out. Oh, yeah, definitely. Yeah, it's

it. Batman's pretty much the the top DC character

for me for the most part. It's pretty much the

only character that makes me read DC comics.

Yeah, I mean, even though Batman's not going

to be in the show, I still think it's going to

be really interesting. I don't know what you

guys think, but probably going to be a lot like

Fat Man year one, maybe like more of a Jim Gordon

story, kind of like how he came to be lieutenant

then commissioner maybe. I could see that. I

mean, a lot of people talked about some people

said, oh, it's going to be like Smallville. I

don't think it's going to be like Smallville

at all. No, no. I think it's. So the whole we're

going to miss the whole police department in

high school. Freak a week. So I'm curious to

see how it's gonna work. I could see it being

like year one. My question is he gonna be like

Batman? Is it gonna be just him as a kid? I'm

thinking they might touch on some things like

they might just have like a little boy and say

like his parents get shot just kind of touch

on stuff that way and bring Batman to the fold

that way not without mentioning him. I've heard

rumors going around that there's going to be

a show about Batman as a young child. I'm not

sure if those rumors are actually true or what's

actually going on with that, but I'm pretty sure

I've seen some rumor going around that there's

gonna be some kind of young Batman kind of smallville

type of thing going on. Is there any rumor on

who's gonna play Gordon? No, they haven't done

any type of casting or anything like that yet.

I doubt it. He did do pretty well as in the movie.

Oh, I love him in a lot of his movies, especially

Fifth Element. I'm not sure if you guys have

seen that, because that's kind of way far out

there science fiction. It's in pieces I've never

seen in a while, but I love it. It's got Bruce

Willis, which I think you would enjoy, Chuck.

And the girl that's in all the... You? Yeah,

the other... What's her name? I forget her actual

name in real life, but... She's in all the Resident

Evil movies. Yes. The poor woman's, uh, Angelina

Jolie. And a little bit on the difference, maybe

not as serious as Gotham, maybe no superheroes,

but Girl Meets World, and growing up, I don't

know about for you guys, but Boy Meets World

was a show I was really into. Yeah, a great show.

I loved it. I would never really got into, I

had to turn off the TV for some episodes, I felt

like they got... really awkward, but it's still

a very nostalgic show for me. It got a lot more

serious as it grew, for sure. I mean, it makes

sense because we were on the same age as the

characters. Remember when we were in sixth grade,

they were in sixth grade. When they were in seventh

grade, we were in seventh grade. So it came out

just at the sweet spot for us. I'm also hoping

this show can finally answer the question of

what happened to Mr. Turner, because he just

kind of disappeared from the TV show. He had

an accident and he just never came back. Well,

there was there was a sequel that Kind of said,

what happened? Mr. Feeney became a voice for

this black car. David Hasselhoff was driving.

It was weird. Yeah, that's where it's weird too.

That that came out, that sequel came out, you

know, 20 years before Boy Meets World, but I

guess technically in the future. Kind of like

Star Wars, whatever. Yeah. And my last one and

then I'll pass on. And this is one Greg, I know

you're into too. And because it's based upon

a book series written by Chuck Hogan and Guillermo

del Toro. Don't you hate saying his first name,

by the way? Yeah, that's why everyone says del

Toro. Plus, it makes it make some sound way more

epic just with del Toro. Yeah. Del Toro! Isn't

Toro supposed to be bull in Spanish, too? I think

so. I believe so. So that makes it even more

badass. Whatever Del means, whatever adjective

that is. It's a computer company, too, and I'm

getting a Del Toro bad joke. Anyway, the team

shows a strain. It's based upon a novel. I only

read the first one, but... I know there's tons

of vampire stuff out there. It's kind of based

upon vampire, but it's also like an outbreak

story too. It's, it reminded me a lot of, if

anyone's read Stephen King's The Stand, it's

in the sense that it's like end of the world

type of mystery. A lot of people end up dying

and it's not just of evil creatures, but it's

also kind of like a virus too. That seems to

be kind of a popular theme right now in the last

few years. Yeah. Like end of the world has been

really big. Last year we had like oblivion and

we have walkie dead going on we have Elysium

I think wasn't it that kind of one to Elysium

World War Z. What was the Tom Cruise one? Oblivion.

Oh, yeah. Wasn't there another Reacher or something?

Well, there was Jack Reacher. Yeah, but that

wasn't that was more like a Jason Bourne tech

movie Tom Cruise has a lot of he's also coming

out with like edge of tomorrow, which is similar

Which is like it and not really end of the world.

It's more future There's that After Earth one

too with Will Smith. Yeah, we forgot that like

most people. Stop trying to push your son on

us, Will Smith. I will not accept him. You're

fine and not your son. Put him in more movies

with Jackie Chan. Yeah, so a lot of TV that I'm

looking forward to, a lot of that's coming out

really shortly. So maybe we'll start with Chuck

this time. I know you had some other stuff you're

looking forward to as well, TV, movies and whatnot,

so. let you take it over. Yeah, thanks. I guess,

well, I know I share one of them with you and

that's Gotham. Really looking forward to that.

Not really disappointed that Batman's not going

to be in it. I'm still pretty interested on the

take on Commissioner Gordon or Lieutenant Gordon

or however he starts off. By the way, I looked

up, I don't think there's an actual young Batman

spin up. I think it's talk about a young Batman

being in Gotham. I just wanted to clear that

up from the floor. Yeah. Greg has become a researcher.

It's pretty awesome. Jack researcher. Also starring

Tom Cruise. As Greg. Minus the craziness. On

whose part. But yeah, it should be, it should

be pretty interesting. The other thing, well,

I mentioned on the last show, I'm a big Arrow

fan and I guess in the fall, I'm guessing it'll

be season three. They'll probably. Continue it

because they're getting some pretty good ratings

right now, but um that'll be good and everybody's

buzz about that show, too I think it's been getting

a lot more a lot more people talking about it,

too I've heard good things on other podcasts

that I've listened to kind of a tangent, but

have you guys watched the tomorrow people at

all? No, I think I've seen a commercial for it

maybe once but that was about it looked like

it was up my alley, but I can't remember when

tv shows are on so i think actually steven amil's

cousin is in that isn't he i have no idea who

is that's the guy that plays arrow oh okay i

think his cousin is in the tomorrow i think so

too yeah i think i've heard that it's pretty

it's pretty good i'm a little bit behind on it

too but it feels like it's based upon a comic

book but it's not to me the it looks so much

better than shield which uh like with the superpowers

and whatnot and i'm like why can't shield look

this good yeah anyways you were saying about

uh era Yeah, they just came back from break,

their little midseason break or whatever for

season two. They kind of touched on The Flash

a little bit. They kind of brought Barry Allen

into the fold. And for the fall of 2014, they're

planning a Flash spinoff show. He's going to

have his own show. I mean, I'm just going to

go around flashing people. Starting Greg. No

one wants to see that. But I mean, that should

be cool because They kind of did the same comic

origin in Arrow, like, they did the whole accident

with the lightning and the chemicals and, you

know, because, you know, you wouldn't just die,

you would obviously get super speed powers. But

I'm not positive that they're getting the same

actor for the Flash show. I think he might be

from Glee. I'm not mistaken. But yeah, he wasn't

a main character. I hate the fact that I know

this. I'll say this off the bat, my wife watches

that show. so in part i've nice excuse so he

he was like like a rival oh god i'm just um he

was on like another team that was uh like that

against the main glee people so he wasn't like

a main character but he was on it and oh god

i'm gonna go cry in shame now but all right go

ahead let me just put ugg in front of that make

it ugly But yeah, I think he's from that. I'm

not positive that they're bringing him back.

I think they might be. Flash is one of my favorite

characters. I mean, obviously I like Superman

and Batman a lot, but I think Flash kind of holds

his own in his own right there. Do you prefer

Barry Allen or do you prefer Wally West? Probably

Barry Allen. I'm not extremely well versed in

the Flash lore, but I think I prefer Barry Allen.

Have you seen the Justice League Flashpoint?

Yeah, Flashpoint Paradox. That was pretty good.

Very violent. That earned its PG -13 rating.

It could have legitimately been an R rating.

Yeah, definitely. Showing Thomas Wayne shooting

people and stuff like that. In the face. In the

face. It seems like DC does a lot of those like,

you know, parallel universe kind of stories.

They're really into that kind of thing. Yeah,

definitely looking forward to Flash and Arrow

Season 3. And then Walking Dead we talked about

before, I guess, in the season 5, probably. Yeah,

season 4, rest of season 4 and beginning of season

5. Yeah, that's pretty much the son of my list.

I guess we'll throw it over to Greg before we

get into the movies. But how about you, Greg?

Any TV shows? Really, no. But I did, I seriously

just pulled this up. Founded on Yahoo TV. ABC's...

Agent Carter books Haley Atwell and Resurrection

Duo as showrunners. Apparently they're gonna

make an Agent Carter TV show. I did hear that,

now that you mention it. And she played her in

Captain America, the first movie, right? Yes,

and there was also, I forget which DVD it came

with. I think it was Iron Man 3, she did one

of those minis. Yeah, the little minis, yeah.

So, and I thought that was actually pretty decent,

so I'd like to see where that goes to be quite

honest. I know I haven't really been happy with

Agents of Shields, but the fact that they actually

have an actress from the movie and seeing what

happened for this little mini movie. I'd be interested

to see if they would kind of go that path and

keep it like that because I'd be very interested

in watching that. Speaking of movies, I guess

we'll keep it on you. Are you looking forward

to any 2014 movies coming out? I looked up the

list of movies and it seems like I just kind

of stuck with superhero movies for the most part.

from Marvel. I'm not even sure if DC is really

coming out with anything this year. If they are,

it's probably getting pushed back, so. What do

you mean, Lyle? You mean like Batman and Superman,

when it's been pushed back. I think it was 10

months I've seen on the internet. They need to

visualize more, as in, we don't know what we're

doing, and we kind of rushed the gate a little

bit. Maybe we just like, oh yeah. we can't just

announce characters we need to actually have

a story along with it so you can't just throw

every character ever in there so you can't adlib

a movie it's a funny story okay just like oh

you mean you actually need a sorry anyway sorry

to cut you that thing that marvel did the 8000

planning for years can't just do it in the afternoon

But I guess I'll just name at least one of the

movies that I'm interested in because I'm assuming

you guys are going to be interested in these

as well. First one off the bat off the top of

my list here is Guardians of the Galaxy, which

you got a little sample of at the end of Thor.

If you stayed, I believe it was after the credits.

It was a really good after credit scene. I thought

Vinicio del Toro. Had a really, really interesting

take on the collector. We're gonna say it differently

every time. But we do love you, Del Toro. We

do. Thanks, Gulliver. Gary Del Toro. We're just

gonna make it simpler and simpler. Until it's

to the point we get it to... I found his choice

of... accent a little bit weird, but I'm really

looking forward to it. I'm really looking forward

to what's your name? Zoe Saldana as, uh, Gamora?

Gamora, yes, thank you, Chuck. Real quick before

you get too far off it, did you hear anything

about anything hidden in that scene? Like, I

know they were talking about maybe like Adam

Warlock's cocoon was kind of in the background

in that scene. No, I haven't heard anything about

that, but probably as soon as you start talking

about a movie, I will go look that up as my new

research role is taking place. That is your new

position. Sorry, but go ahead. I like all the

positions. But yeah, I thought that was well

done for the most part and it looks like a crazy

world that I'd like to see. It kind of looks

like it going into the realm of fifth element

kind of crazy, which I love. I'll just say that

one, because I think Chuck is going to actually

run into a couple of the ones that I'm also interested

in. And I talk way too much on this. Anything

else before we pass it over to Chuck? Well, I

have a book, but I think I'll wait till we get

done with the whole movie segment here. All right.

Words are too hard. Bringing it back over to

Chuck, how about you for movies? I actually have

a ton of movies that I'm looking forward to this

year. I'm not going to go into detail about a

lot of them, but I mean, most of them are Comic

book movies by default because that's like mostly

what's coming out really looking forward to Captain

America Winter Soldier I mean caps one of my

favorite characters begin with so those trailers

look amazing Yeah, and the Winter Soldier story

is like right when I got back in the comments.

It really sold I like Captain America, but I

never really saw him as like a in -depth character

but that storyline was holy crap is when he brutal

breaker being in his past and especially with

What you find out Bucky is and all that? So yeah,

super looking forward to it. So and I don't know

if you guys I think Greg you saw it But Dan,

I don't know if you did but like for Thor in

the 3d version of Thor dark world You got to

see an extended preview of the Captain America

movie. No, I didn't I didn't see Thor in 3d.

So I missed it I just don't remember. It's my

memory. Once again is awful. Well, what it was

was it was like the regular Captain America trailer,

but they throwed in They throw it in? Okay. They

threw in a little bit of extra footage about

the elevator scene with all the guys getting

on the elevator. They fleshed that out a little

bit more, yes. He sees the guys beat a sweat

rolling down his temple and another guy has his

hand on his sidearm so he kind of knows something's

up and they're planning something. That extended

clip was really cool. They really kind of showed

Caps fighting prowess. which I thought was a

little underrated in the first Cap movie. I mean,

it's understandable because he was kind of his

origin. He was just starting out, but that's

one thing that I hope they got into. Like, Cap

is a really skilled, you know, hand -to -hand

combat fighter, so let's see. Next, definitely

Guardians of the Galaxy like we talked about

before. X -Men Days of Future Past. Nice. That

I'm really looking forward to a lot. Love the

X -Men. I think we're all... huge x -men fans

here so we can't wait for that one yeah i mean

first class it was amazing i still love that

movie and like that franchise was like dead on

the water but that brought it back to life and

that i do having like fastbender mckellan steward

mackleboy all in the same movie jennifer lawrence

hello there you go that's and that's a huge cast

like just to bring all those guys together call

me jennifer i don't think she's listening i don't

know she will Will you freak out at all when

that news broke that like Ro got out of the movie?

Does that make you worry at all? A little bit,

but I mean, there's so many characters in it.

It didn't really worry me that much. Like, I

don't know. I think most of the most of the characters

might just be kind of cameos like in the future.

Like, you know, do you remember the X -Men cartoon

when they kind of they kind of covered the day's

future past story? Yeah. They kind of like just

did a pan of all the gravestones and like Cyclops

and you know storm and gene and all those people

but maybe it'll be something like that they'll

just kind of show some clips in the future i

don't know also probably be on the uh blu -ray

when that comes out so it's not it's not that

big of a concern i think it's a good thing honestly

because if they're realizing okay we're just

not gonna put this character in here because

people because they want another character yeah

it seems like they're trying to make a good movie

besides just trying to frame as many characters

as possible i think it made sense because they

kind of showed that rogue lost their powers after

the last stand yeah whereas like magneto they

kind of showed him he still had his powers a

little bit because he moved the chess piece why

do you think that would be chuck like uh just

that off the cuff kind of answer i just think

magneto is a much more powerful mutant so it

you know it just didn't have the same effect

on him i don't know he is quite a talent Plus,

Off the Cuff is also a GeekHatch Radio network

show, so if you want to check that out, go over

there. It's a circle. I think that we're up to

three circles, two more, and we have the Olympic

rings, people. And then if Sonic was listening,

we'd be awesome right now. Anyways, go ahead.

I was never really too happy with the rogue from

the X -Men movies anyway. They got her absorbing

powers right, but of course... Maybe it's too

much of a story, but they never really got into

her strength or anything like that. So, I mean,

she's kind of expendable to me. Yeah, she's the

character is much better in the books. Also,

I don't think I don't think Anna Paquin fit look

wise for Rogue. I feel like she was kind of the

same feeling that I got from Tobey Maguire as

Spider -Man, who I really didn't care for in

that role. But. I felt but I like Anna Paquin

and other things don't get me wrong, but I just

I think somebody else would have been better,

but that's kind of Moot since she was in the

first ones and they're just trying to bring her

back. So what they have to do I think she worked

in the first one more because it was almost like

a cross between rogue and like a kiddie pride,

you know, that's that scene character that Wolverine

can bond with that. He always seems to bond with

teenagers. I don't know what's like Jubilee Jubilee

kitty as Wolverine's a pimp Yeah, I guess that

I think like you mentioned that the hardest part

is trying to retcon it saying how she got her

powers back I guess you'd say like the cure was

only It was not a permanent cure or something.

But yeah, I mean plus without without gambit

there I mean that kind of takes a little bit

interest away from her character because that's

a lot of depth like everything going on gambit

Yeah, and I love their relationship in the comics

and the cartoon. Yeah, and without that there

It's like it's just not the same. All right looking

forward to anything else Yeah, just some quick

stuff. There's a lot of Bible movies coming out

that I'm actually interested in. I won't talk

about them too much. There's actually like five

of them. Holy crap. There's going to be... There

might be some good ones. There probably is. There's

going to be Son of God, Noah, Exodus, and Heaven

is for Real, which is more of like a true story.

And then there's going to be Mary in December.

So I'm looking forward to all those. Looking

forward to Godzilla. That looks pretty cool.

Have you guys seen that trailer? Is that also

a Bible or a religious story? That is not, actually.

That is not. That trailer is just phenomenal.

The image of them flying into the city is just

with the parachuting in with the red banner behind

them and the clouds. that image has just sold

me immediately. Oh, I know. That's really cool.

Do you think that's going to be better than Del

Toro's Pacific Rim? I think it's totally going

to be a lot different because I think Pacific

Rim was just a lot of fun. It wasn't ever really

too serious. So they're going to be hard to compare

towards one another. But I would say I love Pacific

Rim and they're like, yeah, it's a really fun

movie. But I think Godzilla has the possibility

to be a step above that totally and more of a

I don't know, more of an epic movie, I guess.

Just with the cast that's involved and just the

scale of that, of Godzilla. It's gigantic. I

mean, if you look at people in Pacific Rim, it's

like four or five of those on top of each other.

So I think it's going to be like a change the

game type of movie potentially, which is kind

of unfair expectations to put on something. But

I don't know. The trailer sold me. So and the

cast is really good. Yeah, definitely. I think

Cranston's in that, too, isn't he? Yeah, Brian

Cranston. I think he's playing like a scientist

or something. Chuck sells math. Chuck, will it

be better than the Godzilla movie with Matthew

Broderick? Yes, thank you. I don't know. That

one's like, sounds pretty darn good, let me tell

you. I mean, the whole eggs hatching in Madison

Square Garden, that's tough to top. That one

was also done on Ear Wolf's How Did This Get

Made, which I highly recommend you go check out.

Yeah. So if we're lucky, it'll be that good.

If we're lucky. Oh, yeah. Let's see. What else

we got? 300 Rise of the Empire. That was pretty

interesting. Expendables 3. I enjoy those movies

just because it's like pure action. It's kind

of a guy movie. Definitely a guy movie. Well,

it could be for the ladies, too. The little man

muscle there. Well, man muscle is completely

not what it is. But they've got some beefcake

factor in there for the ladies to stare at. I'm

pretty sure... Jason Statham I think is very

popular with the ladies next time I'll deflate

all your balls With the female action heroes,

but so how many of them are in that they're like

I said Mila Djilovic or whatever from the We

got her I've got her name. I got her Zoe Saldana

would be a good one in there some of like the

old ones like Pam Grier she was like the 70s

like Yeah, I enjoy some of those movies Maybe

what's your name? Oh that crazy lady from this

that was married to Dolph Lundgren Pritchett

Nielsen. She's 40 feet tall. She played Godzilla.

She is the villain. And I think that actress

from Heroes, the one who had the kid, I can't

remember what their name, but she does a lot

of woman type. She was in one of the Resident

Evil movies too. So they can make a lot of fun

references. Yeah, and maybe like Gina Carano,

who was in Haywire, she was in the Fast and Furious,

Michelle Rodriguez, but yeah, anyways, that's

kind of another maybe another another podcast,

but uh, any other movies you're looking for?

Um, yeah, just a couple of them quick. I guess

the Michael Bay TMNT. Oh, yes. Ninja Turtles.

Oh, is that coming out this year? I believe so.

I don't think he's directing it to. I think he's

only producing. Oh, producing? Yeah. Well, at

least he switched it back to TMNT instead of...

Yeah, instead of alien turtles. That was horrible.

I hope he keeps the explosions down to a minimum

because I don't think that's the type of movie

where you have a billion explosions. Yeah. I

mean, the turtles aren't going to turn into cars,

are they? Hopefully not. No, but I'm sure there'll

be a lot of pictures of a lot of shots of Megan

Fox from behind. For no apparent reason. Maybe

she'll be April O 'Neill. She's April O 'Neill.

Oh, that's right. That's what I meant. Another

one was Draft Day. Oh, yeah. That's about Kevin

Costner plays the general manager of the Cleveland

Browns football team. How many movies is that

man in? And that's a documentary, right? That

explains the trade they made earlier this year.

When I was watching Wolf of Wall Street, they

had Trailers that went on forever and there was

at least 10 minutes of Kevin Costner on the screen

before Wolf of Wall Street He's in the Jack Ryan

movie and he's in like three days to kill what's

coming out Which I thought which is like him

trying to do his taken but not as good because

he's not Liam Eason I thought it was I thought

it was two trailers for the same movie They do

look very similar because they were it was kind

of back to back with the the other the jack reacher

I think if you say it was or like jack jack rye

jack. There's a lot of jack movies. Uh, you don't

know jack Whatever that was All right. Anyway,

I guess the from what I heard the owner of the

browns He used to be part owner of the stealers

and he kind of helped bring uh, the dark knight

rises To film in pittsburgh. Yeah, this guy's

like a big movie fan. So He brought him to Cleveland

to film this. So I'm guessing that they're not

going to paint the Browns in a bad light. Yeah.

And if they were to paint them, you know, what

color would it be? Orange. It's just weird because

like, I don't know how you make a draft movie

about the Cleveland Browns because like, who

have they drafted like in the last 20 years?

Sim Couch. Yeah. And where is he sitting right

now? On a sofa. Oh, wait. Oh, I get it. He's

the sofa king. And then another cool one. I don't

know if you guys heard about this, but Pompeii.

Oh, yeah, the role in Emmerich movie. Yeah, like

about the volcano, you know, the famous volcanic

eruption from Pompeii, Italy that just buried

an entire like city. Spoiler alert. Yeah, I just

ruined it. So I'm sorry. No one needs to pay

money for that now. Oh, and in Titanic, the boat

sinks. Wait, no. Actually, I wanted to go back

on a couple of them. For Son of God, it actually

is the same cast as that five -part History Channel

series, The Bible. Oh, really? Yeah, like it's

the same. His mother is actually the girl from

Touched by an Angel, like the same actress and

the same actors playing Jesus and some of the

disciples and everything. So they're kind of

like kind of branching off the success from the

History Channel show, which is pretty cool. And

Touched by an Angel. That was a great show. Great

show. Which one? Della Reese and everything.

But that's about it for me. All right. Greg,

I think you had a couple of books you wanted

to talk about, right? Yeah. There's one that

the comics are actually out for it. But there's

been a lot of talk about this comic series. I

thought it was great. I only read the first graphic

novel, so I can't really expand beyond that level.

But I really want to get Saga Volume 3. It kind

of brought back little bit of that nostalgia

that you kind of got from Star Wars and I thought

that was pretty good but I still have to get

number two but that series so far has been really

good and it's been getting a lot of praise from

different places. I've been really into the Percy

Jackson series of books not movies that I didn't

see the new the Percy Jackson that came out this

this last year. No one did so come on. I still

want to see it though because I very much like

the books even though they're for like teenage

kids and i'm like 28 at this point i still thoroughly

enjoy them so are harry potter so yeah and if

you read the books it's kind of in that same

same vein but they just kind of didn't follow

through with the the movies to be quite honest

they didn't get the best parts but uh heroes

of olympus mark of athena is apparently coming

out this april since i've read all of the other

ones and i've enjoy those thoroughly. I definitely

have to pick that up at some point. Very nice.

A lot to look forward to in 2014, for sure. Movie

book -wise, TV -wise, and like I mentioned, I'll

be posting an article with a lot of the stuff

on it, a lot of the movie stuff, including trailers

and whatnot. So if you're not sure if you want

to check some of this stuff out, I'd advise you

to go into Geocast Radio and you'll see that

in the posts. But before we let you go, we'd

like to end each Podcast with like a letter to

a specific person group positive or negative

last week Greg talked to Brian Michael Bendis

this week It's my turn and it's not a specific

person per se but earlier today I had the luxury

of taking my nieces and nephews to see Disney

on ice Yes, I know they greatly enjoyed it and

you think oh I'm gonna be talking bad about Disney

or talking about how they mark no not necessarily

more so to families or parents In general not

all parents. I understand it. I'm not a parent

myself, but I understand it's a tough job But

my issue is while at that event while I just

turn them on ice sometimes parents just Don't

understand us as Will Smith like to say Sorry

Greg I beat you to it But more so what I saw

a lot of is how people this is not just something

you blame on parents people in general I feel

like people tend to like want to record what

they're seeing and doing so they can talk about

it later and not actually enjoy the moment. While

I was at Disney and Ice, you're seeing a lot

of these families trying to take photos for Facebook.

Like, oh, I need this for Facebook. Get a photo

for Facebook while they're holding their kid

who's missing out because they can't see anything

because their parent is more focused on getting

something for Facebook or talking about it later.

You see that a lot. Like you go to any concert

people are more focused on. They're looking at

their screen, not even looking at the thing in

front of them. They're more focused on recording

it so they can share it later. And I think it's

good to share stuff, but sometimes it's just...

it's fun to just experience it as it happens

and photos are great videos are great but you

know there's something about doing something

while you're there and not just doing it to see

a video of it it just it just struck me as an

odd thing it's when with their parents who just

literally spent 90 % of the time just on their

phone recording it. And I'm like, well, do you

really get that experience at all? I don't know.

It just seems like you're missing out when you're

doing that. And I think we're so focused on like

telling other people about what we're doing and

not focused on actually doing what we're doing,

which is something they say when we do a podcast,

I guess. But I don't know. So, yeah, that's wasn't

a specific letter per se. I guess it's more so

not to sound cheesy, but it reminds me of we

saw Super Life Walter Mitty and there was this

Specific scene about someone had the opportunity

to take a shot of something but inside of not

taking the photo They just decided to just enjoy

the moment and I just something I think it's

always good to remind ourselves about enjoying

the moment So I know this podcast is running

a little bit long. So we'll end it here. So Anything

else you guys want to talk about before we bring

the show to a close? No, I think I think we covered

everything I was interested in. Yeah. So hopefully

this live to record podcast went well and we'll

hopefully be doing this again sometime very shortly.

So for now, I have been Dan. I have been Greg

or Harry Potter. Either what you would like.

And I have been Chuck. And we have been talking

in circles and we'll see you next week.
