Talking in Circles
Catching Up on Jessica Jones, Flash, Arrow, and Trailers

About this Episode
Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening
to the geek cast radio network You are now on
the inside of what I like to call the circle
of trust You're all connected in a great circle
of life You know something Bert I think you and
I are going in circles I It feels like we're
going in circles. The circuit is now complete.
When I left you, I was but the learner. Now I
am the master. Because it's a circle. Yeah, we
heard about the circle. Yes, we're familiar with
shapes. Hi, this is Chuck. And this is Greg.
And this is Dan. podcast that is not dead but
still alive. We have come back after quite a
little bit of hiatus. We had some technical issues
with my computer. We had the top 100 going on
so it was kind of crazy but we are back and better
than ever as here today looking to talk to you
about an assortment of stuff, catch up on what
we missed. It's a got a jam -packed episode for
everyone for this week but before we get to all
that I usually say, how's your week been going?
But it's been like three weeks since we podcast.
So how's things been going for you guys? How's
your month been going, I guess? How's your month?
Good month. You got a good month. Yeah, you know,
November is always a good month. Definitely one
of my favorite holidays with Thanksgiving. It's
such a great holiday. I mean, think about it.
Eat a ton of food, watch football and fall asleep.
That's literally all you have to do. That's Thanksgiving.
No, that's a scary movie, too. Oh, OK. But yeah,
Thanksgiving was awesome. Although it was kind
of tough because, as I usually do, I had two
dinners, but this year they were like even closer
together. Oh, nice. So, oh, my gosh, I was in
so much pain after the second time because I
kind of like went overboard on the first meal.
Like, you know, you go in there and you're like,
OK, I have to limit myself because I have to
be ready. eat the second meal but everything's
just so good and you just kind of give into that
you're like oh man you'd have a little bit more
a little bit more and then by the second meal
you know i'm eating like little tiny pieces of
stuff but i was so like so much pain that night
so the meal's not over when i'm not hungry the
meal's over when i'm when i hate myself Right.
I was eating dessert at like 930 at night because
that's how long it took me to think get better
Or I was just continuously eating. I just never
stopped, you know Greg how's things going with
you? Pretty good. Pretty good. Apparently I've
aged significantly since we've last talked I
look like an old person and I feel like an old
person because I just I smell like marbles. Marbles
and death, that's kind of, yeah. Don't go dying
on me. But I actually have gotten my first pair
of glasses ever. Yeah, I get to use them for
reading comic books, graphic novels, regular
novels, all the fun literary stuff that I do
and also working on the computer. And also labels
on blood pressure medication. Yes. My dad didn't
have to get glasses until he was 45. I'm getting
them at 30. Maybe it's because I I stare at a
screen for eight hours a day at work. I don't
know. Man, yeah. I'm getting older with you,
though, because, like, I actually got upset that
I missed an episode of Jeopardy. Like, that's
how old I am. Just the fact that you watch jeopardy.
I know and we'll afford And we'll force back
to back. It's it's an action -packed. Oh my god
night Yeah, well, you know I get home around
like seven o 'clock or so. We don't have cable
anymore. So Really just throw something on the
TV cuz really, you know getting ready putting
everything together So you really throw jeopardy
on and I've been watching it for the month of
Jeff for the last month and they had like the
tournament of champions and They had this guy
on it who was like Imagine Sheldon Cooper, but
instead of being lovable. He was like you replace
that with douchebaggery That was like this guy.
He was just so awkward and weird and he would
yell and like yes at things and he just seemed
like He just seemed like I just really just did
not like him at any point in my life I'm like
I'm rooting against this guy and he was in the
championship round and I really wanted to see
him lose and Because it was like the champions
of champions or whatever and I missed the episode
But I was happy that he ended up losing but he
was he was quite the quite the character Hey,
I will say jeopardy is quite fun when you're
actually getting the answers to questions, right?
Because you feel really smart like well like
I just got like six jeopardy questions, right?
Like I could totally have like $12 ,000 I was
actually at my grandmother's and she had it on
and The two questions that I saw were about podcasting
really Yeah, they had a question about um crap.
What's his name? I had trouble coming up with
his name, but it was the question was like or
the answer was this Podcast has a famous host
and the name of the podcast is and I forget the
name of it But it was the dude who was the aflac
duck for a while problem child Yeah, yeah, yeah,
so I was surprised they had a category about
That's okay. They had a category today about
Chevy Chase and what was really funny about it?
It was like no one would pick it They wouldn't
pick it till the very end when they had no other
choice I'm like that's that's kind of funny funny
if any of Bill Murray was playing because he
hates them Realize you lose if you don't select
one of these answers. Yeah Yeah, that's so I'm
all there with you. But yeah, I also had a nice
Thanksgiving dinner this first time we stayed
in Baltimore for Thanksgiving It was just timing
wise. It just was too much that the leaf So it
was nice not to have to drive on Thanksgiving
for the first time in my lifetime Like even since
I was little we've always would travel on Thanksgiving
So it was weird just like not going anywhere
and then just watching the news talk about people
traveling I'm like at least I'm not doing that
this time. So it was nice You didn't have to
channel your inner John Candy and Steve Martin.
No, no. I do that anyways, but I just got to
stay home and watch the movie instead instead
of actually trying to live it. Nice. Planes,
Chains, and Audible Bills. Classic. I've actually
never seen that movie. Really? Oh, man. You're
missing out. Really? Wow. It's the best Thanksgiving
movie ever. That is a funny movie. Yeah, it's
the best Thanksgiving movie ever and probably
the only one that exists so everything else is
Christmas But the good thing about staying home
for the holidays is a few things I actually got
to watch some TV and I know Greg you also watched
a little bit this as well and that's the I think
you're ahead of me with the the man in high castle
show on Amazon Yes, I am slightly ahead of you
by one episode But the man in the high castle
a very very interesting concept going on kind
of a kind of in my wheelhouse of things that
I like history big history nut as as are you
Dan and Well, no, thanks. Thanks for putting
me on the spot there with That question though
trying to trick me. But also something we're
both interested in is kind of like what if storylines
or alternate history and that's what this is.
It has to deal with what happens if the Axis
powers won World War II and had control of America.
The Nazis have control of the East so that would
be all of us here. You would all be under Nazi
control. Or if you're over on the West Coast,
you're controlled by the Japs. And then in the
center is apparently neutral territory. And it
has to deal with groups of different people that
are set up in this regime. You've got politicians
from both sides. You've got spies, you've got
somebody who's just kind of Coming into a spy
role, I guess you would say without revealing
too much And somebody who just kind of gets stuck
Being a spy kind of randomly, I guess you would
say I was kind of like Will Smith an enemy of
the state or whatever just but being in the wrong
place at the wrong time, I guess. Yeah, and so
it's very good so far. And I found out that it
was actually based on the writings of Philip
K. Dick, who, if you're a big science fiction
nerd, you know a lot of his stuff has been made
into movies already, like Total Recall. Arnold
Schwarzenegger version not that other one He
had nothing to do with the other one minority
report paycheck Crap Blade Runner is that what
you're thinking of Blade Runner? Yes. Thank you.
I kept was reversing it my head for some reason
but yes, he's uh Was the the guy that wrote a
do electric or do androids dream of elect? Trick
Sheep, which is Blade Runner, of course. And
so it's kind of a departure, I think, from his
normal affair, at least so far, because I don't
think I've ever seen anything as historically
based as this is. He definitely does deal with
kind of politics in a fun way in all of his stories
and everything, but... but this one I think is
more uh closer to like a historical take than
anything I've ever seen them do even though it's
an alternate history but a lot of it's based
off of past events there is like a Kind of a
science fiction element possibly in the background
I guess like after the first episode they kind
of reveal in the first episode They reveal something
that makes you wonder like what exactly is going
on here Is it more than just like a what -if
story? Is there some sort of other element to
it? Which has me curious like that's probably
like my biggest question right now. Like what
is that mystery? It's very it's very meta Guess
you would say it was this this book I guess was
meta before meta existed in the Cultural realm
I guess you would say usually Phil K Dick is
very new Irish with his movies because you know
think of Blade Runner and Minor report they usually
have a crime element. That's not as necessarily
in this there's spying going on But I do like
there's a lot and I only watched the first two
episodes and I think you're the first three So
still a bunch to go go through I want to watch
more. It's just finding the time. Oh, I do too
I mean, it's hard to find the time in which we
how is the the intro with a device? Oh my goodness,
it is the intro is how creepy is Edelweiss they
sing at the beginning super creepy We're watching
it actually for Thanksgiving and we had family
down They're like now this song is ruined for
us forever because we can't can't enjoy it anymore
Yeah the one creepy thing Involved in the story
that I found so far not that it's not all creepy
since it has to deal with Nazis and brutal murders
of people is the fact that they they brought
up the fact that that they are killing Jews and
undesirables. It was mentioned as one of the
spies was going west towards the neutral zone
and he got pulled over by a Nazi cop and they
start discussing things. And then all of a sudden
it starts to snow while he's having a sandwich.
And so you see all this snow falling, but it's
actually. Ashes coming from the local hospital
of them burning all the Jews and mentally handicapped
this just random Tuesday. Yeah that they Get
rid of people. It was a very creepy scene to
me. Yeah, because it's like this, you know middle
Midwestern guy Being like super nice. It'd be
like a character right out of any Griffith, but
he's wearing a Nazi uniform Oh, yeah, and then
it's like It's you have that going on. It's so
it's so it's so weird. It just feels wrong. You
know, it's like seeing All this happen, but it's
it's intriguing in that way because it's like,
okay What's what's going and as you know, like
you mentioned someone who loves the what -if
stuff and the alternate universe stuff It's really
intriguing in that way and there's some other
things too that just have me wondering them Okay,
what's going on there like there? There's this
flight they take from, you know, New York to
LA and they do it in like three hours. And I'm
like, well, how do they do that with that type
of technology? So like what's going on here?
So I feel like they're, they're giving us breadcrumbs
into something that's more, more complicated.
And so I know some people have already finished
it, but I'm really looking forward to reading,
watching more of it. So I watched the pilot like
a year ago. And I was like, oh wow. Yeah, because
what amazon does is they release pilots They
actually just released their new pilots not too
long ago and people watch them and like based
upon How well reviewed they are they'll then
make series of them and man in high castle was
one of the most Well received last year. So that's
why I ended up leading to the series getting
made So it's kind of kind of cool what amazon
I think amazon's starting to catch up a little
bit with netflix with quality shows because they
have a few now it seems like but um Anything
else you want to talk about regarding man in
high castle? Would you would you overall say
like are you? Oh, yeah, I totally am it's it's
very dark creepy vibe that you expect from a
show where these two Villainous states have have
taken over America when it was wholesome and
awesome. So it definitely gives you this creepy
vibe and there's definitely with this package
that they're both carrying definitely adds An
awesome vibe in the background of what is actually
going on here. That's Leaves you unsettled. Yeah.
I I'm wondering like how they're like I'm gonna
keep seasons of this like, you know, what's the
ultimate goal? They're gonna be a lot of you
know, like Do you think they're gonna have a
planned ending for? This show the series I think
you would have to and especially think with Amazon
you have a better chance of doing that because
you don't have to worry about Ratings for the
most part, you know, if Amazon's happy with it
and they can probably finish it the way they
want to and it's getting great reviews and I
mean, I don't know how I don't know how they
rate their shows download wise but I would assume
it's getting a second season if the plan if that's
the plan but yeah, I would definitely recommend
it and hopefully I'll be finishing it soon, but
I like a lot of people watch a lot of Jessica
Jones and we'll hold off on talking about that
right now, but Maybe we'll talk about it later
down the road. I don't know if you guys unless
you guys wanted to talk about it a little bit
or I Haven't even touched upon it yet. I haven't
really gotten to it I'm planning on it, but I
just haven't gotten to it. I've seen three three
episodes is all That's all I've been able to
muster so far, but uh, I will say I'm not liking
it as much as I did dare daredevil so far But
you know, we'll see where it goes. Maybe it'll
get better. I I still think I like daredevil
more but I ended up really really liking it I
did I did finish the series we can probably be
when they do a whole podcast on it if possible
My wife actually liked it more than I did. So
it's it's very it's so much almost not a superhero
show at all and a lot of ways but I do I do love
how the They treated Jessica Jones and purple
man is a freaking amazing villain as it goes
on so it hit he and William Fisk are kind of
like moving them ruling the Marvel world right
now when it comes to being great villains because
they're they're really making up for what the
movies are lacking but The one show I didn't
want to talk about before we get into the trailers
that everyone's talking about Is another show
again on another Netflix show actually, it's
Masters of Masters of None the Aziz Azari show
And I know Greg, you know series Azari from Parks
and Rec. Mm -hmm He is on Netflix. I watched
the few first few episodes it's it's kind of
hard to Explain exactly what it is. It's almost
like a Male version of that show girls on HBO.
Maybe I don't know It's kind of like comedy drama
per se each episode has like a kind of a different
topic it focuses on from Once on parents once
on like the decision of having kids. It's kind
of this mid 20, you know Someone around our age
30s or so guy living in New York City Trying
to become an actor and the kind of life he lives
and with his friends. It's it's funny. It's a
good It's really it's a 20 -minute comedy that
Izzy Zazari really seems to be dialed down a
little a lot because I know he can be kind of
like a lot to take at times he can be super energetic
and a little bit much but in this he's really
more relatable he My favorite episode so far
was the episode about his parents and it was
him and his friend who's also who's Asian and
like they kind of had this Relationship they're
kind of discussing their relationship with their
parents and how they can't relate to them because
they grew up in the United States and the parents
came from these immigrant backgrounds and how
that like the struggles that they face there
and It was a quite a good episode. I actually
ended up liking it a lot I've watched like the
first five or six or so and you know, it's it's
a lot of fun It's funny not a lot of faces. You're
gonna recognize per se I would say mine is Isis
Azari, but it's quite good. I would I would recommend
it I mean, it's kind of Louie I guess in the
way it's following a comedian and his life day
in day out, but it's not I would say as a There's
like no necessarily no format to it. It's just
like, you know, this is the episode and we go
from there, but It's one of the better things
I watched this year Yeah, cool. Anything else
anyone want watcher Brad talks about before we
get into the trailers I'll just mention quickly
that uh, I was able to catch the big Arrow flash
crossover event that just happened this past
week. I'm so I'm behind I was that kind of upset
that I miss it I have to catch up with how was
it? It was it was really really cool. I enjoyed
it a great deal Obviously the the flash episode
came first because that's on Tuesday night and
the very next night the second half of it was
on the arrow show, but the flash one Was really
good. There was one part in it. That was sort
of corny for me, but Overall, it was really good.
But the the arrow episode which was the second
half of the event was Perfect. I thought it was
there was a lot of really cool stuff there a
lot of stuff happened and I was kind of Shocked
that it didn't seem overwhelming was like everything
happening like it actually kind of flowed fairly
well, so they introduced a new villain and He's
he doesn't get a ton of screen time but the Basically
the theory behind this villain is very interesting
and the unique challenges that he presents because
of his His powers and stuff like that. So it's
it's really really cool. And I love the way they
continue to use like flashes powers and even
the Special effects are still pretty good and
way better than Supergirl Yeah, yeah, I I didn't
I saw that the first episode I will say that
the writing in Supergirl is getting a lot better
But the effects are still horrible Every time
she flies it looks like she's suspended by cables
and it's in slow motion Like really you fly like
the same speed as Superman and you looks like
someone's like this old guy's wheeling you across
these cables like She's on one of those little
hoverboard things that they have. That's the
thing. But no, but I love the I love the stuff
where they're doing with the flash and like,
yeah, I'm not giving anything away here, but
like they they use the flash well, I think, like
with his personality, like they're touching on
his sort of like the way he jokes around and
kind of keeps the mood light in really tense
situations. It's very similar to like the Justice
League cartoon, Michael Rosenbaum voiced the
Flash. And it was like he was always cracking
a joke in the in the tensest of moments, you
know, just to keep it light and everything. And
that's kind of what they're like doing with the
Flash, especially in this crossover thing. And
it just it was kind of cool. Like, I don't know.
It just reminds you a lot of that cartoon and
also the comics a little bit. It I think it works
pretty well. So yeah i've been liking the flash
even like the most recent episode that the last
one I watched was actually the girl who got grod
episode And uh, I didn't like the one last season
but i'm kind of coming around to it a little
bit because I i'm still a little hesitant on
using girl woulda got it grod I don't think he
looks great in the show, but uh This time around,
he looked a little bit better, I thought. Yeah,
yeah. And I kind of liked where it like ended
up. I was like, OK, that's kind of funny. I'll
see how where this where this goes. Right. But
the the episode before that, the Zoom episode.
Yeah. Oh, my gosh. I love that episode. And the
character is Zoom. And if you've watched the
episode, you already know he was like the most
terrifying villain I've ever seen. Yeah, like
it was unbelievable like the guy The guy that
voiced him is a candy man Really? Yeah. Yeah,
what's his name Tony something? Tony Bennett
Tony Blair, no, that's not it either. I can't
remember his last name soprano. No, I think it's
Tony Stark It's got to be Tony Stark you guys
so many people are screaming at their iPods right
now or whatever I didn't realize that tell you
in two seconds. I do have a theory. I'm almost
pretty certain I know who Zoom is you're supposed
to be I don't know if they've revealed it yet,
but I'm pretty I have some theories to like just
thinking Tony Todd that's his name. Sorry. Yeah,
there you go He's got one of those really deep
kind of like almost like a James Earl Jones voice
that's like raspy and he voices this thing and
like It's just so terrifying like it's more terrifying
than any horror movie villain I've ever seen
like they just did such a good job with this
character and it's just the way they did his
mask to like how like his whole face is covered
and He has those little slits over his mouth
kind of and he just has these black eyes like
Remember Quinn and jaws describing the shark.
He's got those black lifeless eyes. That's what
makes him seem like he's not human That's what's
so terrifying about him. But yeah, it was an
awesome episode. Yeah It was funny that you mentioned
the eyes because I saw it was something I don't
even know what it was but it was like an ad in
Facebook where it's like Zoom revealed and it's
like look at look at this the eyes of this character
compared to this character You can see that it's
actually it's actually come on Let's calm down.
Let's give it. Let's give it a second. Like it's
yeah Cool. Yeah. Yeah, I have my theories of
who he's gonna be I think, uh, I think he may
be one of the. One of the two father figures
that Barry has in his life. Yeah, because I,
I think that would be just like a gut wrenching
thing for him to go through, like if he finds
that out, you know what I mean? Yeah, that was
my thought. It would be that or let's say a true
reflection of himself. So, yeah. I thought that
too, but this guy looks like he has a bigger
body. Yeah, that's the thing. Yeah, it's like
Grant Gustin is like super skinny. Yeah. But
but yeah, the you know, that was great. And the
crossover was was really cool, too. They introduced
Vandal Savage and Hawkman and Hawkgirl, which
you're always a little skeptical when they introduce
characters like that. But I think it was it was
done well enough that it was, you know, better
than Supergirl. So especially especially Hawkgirl,
like the Hawkeye who have. The the weirdest their
Origins ever their yeah, it's always so confusing
too because they tried to do it in smallville
back in the day It's like can we simplify this
somehow like yeah Cartoon I forget I forget there
was hockey was Hawkeye in the cartoon or Hawkman
or whatever Seamus I think he was in he might
have been in unlimited That's when they started
bringing branching off into the some of the,
you know, B list characters. Cool. All right.
Well, the other thing we're going to touch upon
real quick. By the time this comes out, this
trailer will be long old, but we have to talk
about it. Plus it kind of ties into the next
trailer we'll get into. But the first trailer
for Captain America Civil War came out not too
long ago. Oh. So Chuck I'm guessing that's you
saying you you liked it Yes, he loved it. He
wants some more of it. He tries so hard can't
rise above it I don't know what it is about that
little guy. I don't know what it did with my
life without having Greg sing to me. I want some
more of it. Surprised Greg actually is singing
a country song here. Thank you. This is more
surprising than anything. I don't know why I
know that one so well, but I do. Wasn't it a
commercial? Am I wrong? No, I don't think so.
I just know it because I used to listen to that
one. It's a catchy tune. It's a catchy tune.
So Chuck, you approve of the Civil War trailer.
Yeah, I, uh, I definitely had a geek out moment
when I, when I watched that the one morning.
Um, I immediately sent it to some of my coworker
friends that are into the Marvel movies and stuff.
Like, stop what you're doing. Watch this right
now. Yeah. Marvel's just really, really good
at doing trailers. Usually, and especially like
the, the Captain America movies, like I know
we'll get into another franchise later on that
maybe isn't so good at doing trailers, but Marvel
has this way of showing you just enough to get
you extremely excited, but not giving away anything
too too revealing. But yeah, I was super excited
just to kind of get a glimpse of like how. This
is reflecting the Civil War story from the comics
because that's a story that I think we all loved
very much. And personally, it's probably my second
favorite story of all time behind Infinity Gauntlet.
So I'm really excited that they're doing both
of my favorite stories in the movies. They consulted
Chuck, that's how. Jim Starlin asked me, you
know, a couple of years ago at the Comic Con,
and I told him, these are the ones. But yeah,
I mean, and they obviously they changed the premise
a little bit to fit their universe, but I have
no problem with that. I think it works. I know
some people are complaining, like, you know,
I was just reading stupid comments and people
are like, it's not going to work. It's different
than the comics. I'm like, really? Like, it kind
of has to be because there's no secret identities
in this universe. So it's like, yeah. I think
the way they went about it really makes a lot
of sense. And it's it's something that obviously
would strike a chord with Captain America because
those personal relationship with Bucky and you
know, I think it's I think it's Very good idea.
So Greg thoughts on the Civil War trailer. I
Of course, I thought it looked really good. If
I don't say yes Marvel will Knock me off. They'll
revoke our sponsorship that we don't really have.
Yeah, actually we have a sponsorship with Arrow,
but I thought it was really, really well done.
It looked great. Can't wait to see more. Black
Panther looks awesome. I wasn't sure what you
would give his get -up. Do you think he looks
good? No, I think he looks great. I think that's
how he's... kind of supposed to look. I think
they did a good job making him look different
than Batman, which a lot of people confuse Black
Panther and Batman. Not any nerds, but like the
Mundis, the normal people. The laypersons? Yes,
they would. Totally be like, oh, that's Batman's
like simply to remember one guy his mouth and
chin is exposed. The other guy's not yeah Well,
I have people telling me that Batman or not Batman
a spider -man and Deadpool look Are exactly alike.
So Deadpool that's spider -man to some people.
Yes. Yeah, I've met people Apparently so yes
Man, you know what? It's not all superheroes
look alike. Come on now. Let's not be let's not
be so closed -minded but uh, it's funny because
with uh With the civil war in batman versus superman
trailers, uh, my wife's like why are all the
superheroes fighting each other? I don't get
it. They're supposed to be the same side. I'm
like, well It's complicated with batman with
a civil war. There's this registration act I
explained it all she's like I still i'm like
i'm just like you didn't need to do that. I'm
like i'm I'm sorry. It's you asked it's it's
the nerd of me. I I had to I mean, I I did really
like the trailer My only my only concern is that
they're not a huge concern. I did think some
of the action It's so early. So it's hard to
say if this will be the issue when it actually
comes out but some of the actions that look really
CGI ish like I'm thinking of like the opening
sequence in the age of Ultron where it looked
you look overly CGI like Which I'm not the fan
of because I what I loved about winter soldier
is like it felt like you were there like a lot
of the fights with the winter soldier bat rock
they were like very physical and hand -to -hand
and I didn't necessarily get that as much with
like the Iron Man versus in versus winter soldier
and Cap a little bit too much CGI there. I mean
it could be it's still early production So it
could be tightened up a little bit and look better
in within the film and there could be more scenes
I got the total opposite of that. I felt it was
very much like the Winter Soldier film with the
hand -to -hand combat. I thought they worked
in unison perfectly, tossing the shield back
and forth and catching up. I did look at that.
Did they work well together? I felt like I was
watching a CGI, unlike with the Winter Soldier
one, where it was them doing it for real. Now
watch Supergirl and you'll feel like you're watching
I did like that my other thought is I mean this
is hard to say but It does seem kind of small
Like scale wise like it doesn't seem like like
a lot of the battles seem kind of contained which
makes sense because there's not a huge amount
of characters So it's hard to kind of have a
huge like throw down with tons of different characters
and maybe you don't necessarily need that but
I am looking forward to I want I wonder if I
know spider -man's gonna be in it, but I doubt
he's gonna be in much of it I wonder if like
black panther is gonna play kind of like that
spider -man role where he's like in between both
sides I don't know if you saw they had It was
an entertainment weekly I forget but they had
a cover with iron man and America and black panther
was in the middle For some reason had a little
like quote on there that said meow. Yeah, that
was awful. I don't understand at all. It's a
panther. He's not a cat. I guess he is a cat,
but you know what I mean. He doesn't say meow.
That's really stupid. He's not a house cat. He
has not been trained. He's not appearing on Reddit
constantly. He's one of the few things. But I
am really excited for it. It looks like it's
going to be quite good. I think. I think Black
Panther kind of like when he comes into play,
I think it's because they're kind of like maybe
not trespassing, but for lack of a better word,
kind of trespassing on to Wakanda or something
like that, because you seen the in the one scene
when the when Cap jumps off of that Jeep and
busts through the window. That's like the. the
one like the Center for Infectious Disease or
something like that. It's in Africa. So you think
it may be like something happens where there's
like a threat that could be released on Wakanda.
So like Black Panther gets like gets involved
that way or something like that. And maybe he
doesn't want to get involved in the Civil War
thing because he doesn't live in the United States.
Do you guys think claw will make another appearance
in this movie like he did in the second avengers
movie? My guess is if he does it'll be like in
the end sequence, you know, like the secret scene
or something like that. I don't think he'll He
might I mean, I don't know they they made it
a point to cut his arm off in Age of Ultron,
even though that was that played into their continuous
Star Wars reference thing. But yeah, and even
though his part was so small, I really liked
him in that movie. Yeah. I like how he played
the cuttlefish. Yeah. I did. What do you think
about General General Ross that are both showing
up? I actually like that idea a lot because it
brings someone from. A much older movie that
like probably most people forgot about. It's
like, hey, remember me? That movie existed. Stop
trying to erase the memory of it. It's better
than people say it is. What was that, 2008? It
came out the same summer as Iron Man and Dark
Knight, so. Okay, yeah, so 2008. So it's been
at least seven years and I do like the idea because
I think a lot of elements from that movie are
kind of forgotten. Like I mentioned this before
too, like No one has ever mentioned Abomination
or where he's locked up at or anything like that
like it's never been referenced in any of the
other movies It's like here's this insanely powerful
villain that no one is even talking about You
have Thunderbolt Ross who would be who would
make sense and they're finally utilizing him
now as a an Enemy to these kind of vigilantes.
So I think it makes a lot of sense to bring him
in finally Hulk movie that he had it showed a
little bit of a relationship with Stark because
he got you know weapons from Stark in that movie
so that Yeah, yeah, and he also made Stark made
a appearance at the end of that one. So maybe
that will like well, I guess because I was regarding
the Avengers but I think my theory is because
there's a scene where there's like an explosion
it looks like it's explosion in some sort of
facility like a CIA or maybe shield headquarters
where that explosion happens and it gets kind
of pinged on Bucky and That's the reason they're
trying to arrest him would be might like the
focal point of why they're trying to arrest him
and I Know Baron Zeeman supposed to be in this
so maybe he's like the figurehead in the background
causing it all to happen. So Hope they do him
well and he becomes like another Loki in the
cinematic universe Where he's very popular like
they don't feel the need to let you know Kill
him off within the same movie that he you can
kind of just stick around, you know He's not
to be the guy that kind of they capture him or
he can kind of be in the background for a little
bit So that'd be my guess I just hope they don't
release a trailer saying showing us that at the
end of the fight between Captain America and
and and Iron Man that, you know, they stop fighting
each other to fight Baron Seymour. Like, hopefully
they don't release that trailer. Because, like,
who would release a trailer like that? Yeah,
I know. Why would you, you know, undermine the
entire title of your movie and kind of give away
the ending? That would be stupid. Yeah. I mean,
that would be ridiculous to do that. Who would?
No one would ever do such a thing in the history.
Anything else on Civil War before we go into
the Batman v Superman trailer? um what uh just
gonna I wanted to ask you guys crap What do you
guys think about Black Widow's position? Do you
think she'll be like a flip -flopper in this
or do you think she's definitively on Iron Man's
side in this? I'm guessing Greg would love it
to see Black Widow flip -flop if I'm not mistaken.
I think her heart is with Cap, but her duty is
duty. Her duty is with Iron Man. I think it's
gonna be something where it's like... She's she's
seen the other side of the vigilante ism or what
happens when people are run amok So that's why
she's sticking with Iron Man side. I Actually
think I'm gonna go on a bit of a limb. I think
she's gonna start off with Iron Man I think she's
actually gonna switch to cap side That's just
what I don't know why it's just a hunch that
I have but I think like Hawkeye's there I just
think she has too many ties with like Like Greg
said, her heart, I think, uh, eventually that'll
just kind of pull her in that direction. I don't
know. Uh, no, I'm not surprised. I was surprised
he wasn't in the trailer. Um, but, uh, no, because
like, Cap was against even his creation. So it
was like, you know, he didn't want to do it.
And, uh, You know, Thor didn't even want to do
it. He kind of did it accidentally, but. Just
like Thor being. Yeah. And plus the fact that
like, uh, Jarvis kind of merged with, um, you
know, the other system to create that I figured
he would kind of be with Tony. So that really
doesn't surprise me, but, um, you think I really
would like to know if, if they're going to sort
of, uh, imply anyone else taking a position like...
What was I gonna say? There was a couple of characters
that were left out that I was still wondering
about. Obviously Thor's not gonna get involved
and I think the Hulk's not going to either because
I think Hulk's gonna play a fairly big role in
Ragnarok, actually. That's what I've been seeing,
yeah. kind of teaming up in that movie, which
will be really cool in and of itself. But I think
I was kind of wondering if if they would introduce
Dr. Strange at all. I was just kind of curious
about that, like I think it's a little early
for Miss Marvel. Yeah, definitely. I don't think
they'll go into any inhuman stuff. I think that's
pretty much stranded on the TV show, but. I was
kind of wondering about dr. Strange. Like are
they gonna hint at him at all again? Are they
gonna? Introduce him at all, but I don't know.
I mean, I would probably guess not I think they're
probably it seems like the with the movie so
far that the only time they hint at characters
It would be like within you know, they talk about
them They'll mention them and maybe they'll show
them in like the end clipping or something like
that But they're using introduce one Are you
are you surprised? Yeah, I think the only one
that's gonna be introduced in this will probably
be spider -man in some capacity Yeah, are you
surprised at all that ant -man is with cap? No,
I don't think so. I think It kind of makes sense,
you know, he I would see him more likely being
on cap side than iron man side because you probably
I don't know I have nothing they really go off
of except for he was Seems like to be more on
the like going against the Registration type
of thing being a guy who's coming from jail and
right being more the Robin Hood type to begin
with Yeah, well the way I look at it is it seems
like everyone with a family to worry about is
on Cap's side You know what I mean like Ant -Man
has his daughter You know you have Hawkeye with
his hidden family that we kind of learned about
in Age of Ultron I don't know Scarlett, which
really has a family, but I guess her brother
died. So I don't know if that would make sense.
But, you know, Falcon is really good friends
with Cap and everything. So I don't know. I think
that's what kind of the way I was kind of looking
at it, because like, you know, Rhodey and Stark,
they didn't really mention any family for them
that I know of like in the movie. So and they're
more of like Well, roadie was more of a government
guy. That's that's another interesting thing,
too, that I actually read about this. The article
I was reading got a good point. Like, do you
remember in? The the early Iron Man movies like
the first one, the second one, he was so anti
-government. They they wanted his armor. He's
like, no, you can't have it. This is mine, blah,
blah, blah. Now, all of a sudden, he's totally
pro -government. Like, I feel like that's an
interesting. Transition for him. Yeah Do you
think there's gonna be an incident that causes
that or I've heard a lot of people saying it's
gonna be the Iron Man Hulk fight that's causing
the Reasoning for it or is there something else
that is the caveat to? Leading to the Registration
Act like there was in the Civil War comic where
they blew up the school or something like that.
I Don't know I'm really not sure because it's
like if you think about it like both of those
Characters Iron Man and Captain America have
totally pulled a 180 From their original appearance
like I already talked about Iron Man's cap was
like the biggest like brah -rah company man there
was you know spokesman for the military the government
and Now like they present these accords and he's
totally against it. Yeah, it's like both of these
characters have totally flipped which is really
interesting The Captain America first Avenger.
It's like, you know, his issue was he hated bullies
and in which soldier, right? He hated seeing
what was happening because it was With all the
shield, you know, it's it's fear. We'll forget
the exact line. So I Right. He was saying like
I thought the punishment came after the crime
This isn't freedom and I fear Tony Stark the
different that seems like the event that changed
it was him Almost dying and like him In the seeing
that other world and kind of realizing he's such
a small piece in this gigantic thing also also
something that could be a catalyst for Stark
is a Sort of the the dream sequence he had that
was given to him by scarlet witch where he saw
everyone dead around him And he felt incredibly
guilty for it So maybe that kind of does something
to him where? He's like, all right, we can't
just run around without any reins. We kind of
have to have some organization. And maybe he
feels like that'll kind of take some of the pressure
off of him or something if something were to
happen. Maybe that's kind of driving it. I don't
know. Any other thoughts on Civil War before
we move on to Batman v Superman? We have to I
think you want to come on you gotta you gotta
you gotta All right Do you want to start first
you wanna do you want to save you since I you
are the biggest Superman fan out of all of us
You guys can go first you mean I'm not the biggest
You might be after this I'm not seeing Superman
in these movies. Yeah, he seemed like a super
asshole kind of... Super asshole? Nice. That's
his new name, super asshole. It's an Elseworld
tale, you know? Yeah, super asshole. Super asshole
versus bad guy. What if Superman and Clark Kent
grew up with awful parents? This is what you
get, apparently. Yeah, he seems kind of like
a dick in this so far. So the actual trailer,
we... Clearly see a lot of changes are going
on with this movie, but D. Are you excited at
all for Batman v Superman? Dawn of acid Not really
no I have really no interest whatsoever the only
thing that really came out of a good out of this
for me But it's also a bad thing is That I know
I no longer Ben Affleck being Batman is no longer
a big concern for me because there's so much
other stuff that I feel is so wrong. So Ben Affleck
is the least of my concern to be quite honest.
I thought that how he did his voice was cool
until one part in the trailer where Wonder Woman
shows up and Superman goes, is she with you?
Oh, I thought she was with you and I'm like,
okay, it sounded so badass until he made a joke.
It sounded like Yeah, it felt totally weird with
it being a Batman B with that voice which I thought
was so awesome until he said that I'm like, okay
I don't like the voice anymore cuz like if they're
going that way it doesn't work with that line
like they have to cut that out of Do you want
him to use his regular voice when he's making
jokes? No, well, I don't know. Well, they all
know. Well, essentially, they all know who he
is since freaking Superman takes his cowl off
and stares at it for five hours back and forth.
That part, I think, is going to turn into a meme,
by the way, of him taking the... The hood the
cowl off Batman and then maybe he's like talking
to the cowl instead of Bruce Wayne hanging there
Wrapped up and look. Oh my god. I took your I'm
doing the Batman voice. I don't know what. Oh
my god. I took the Oh my god, the skin came off.
That is so weird or something like that Thor
is voicing Superman. Yes keep changing of the
different face Matt Damon and then it's like
Mark Hamill not Mark Hamill, but uh Michael Keaton,
they keep changing back and forth. I can see
different faces getting put in there, yeah. Part
of me wonders with this trailer is if there are,
because I remember with Man of Steel, there were
these sequences in the trailer, like, what's
going on here? And then they ended up being like
these dream sequences that happened. So I'm wondering
if that's happening here. Are there different
dream sequences that are occurring that we think
are real but are not? It's exact Snyder dreaming
that he could make a real movie about Superman
You know what I I made all the Watchmen fans
angry, so let's see if I can make all the Batman
fans angry I'll say this I'm gonna see it Maybe
not opening weekend. Yeah, but there are The
thing I hate about it the most and we kind of
talked about it already is that Lex Luthor It's
too much Like the entire premise of the movie
the entire premise of batman v superman It should
be batman v superman not really though like only
for only kind of Kind of sort of but you know
at the end. It's just why would you like the
entire? Premise like all this buildup was seeing
these two heroes go head -to -head and now we
know how it's gonna end Like how long would you
do that? That is insane to me. Why would you
ruin your? Everything the reasoning behind making
this movie with the trailer like this. It's ridiculous.
It's like it's it's it's almost like you have
to change the title now like it's like There
was a year of a year and a half of build -up
Batman vs Superman and now it's just ruined Because
it's like they should add instead of dawn of
justice. They should just write not really Man,
it's so that bugs me. Yeah, like Luther. I I'm
a Jesse Eisenberg fan. I was a defender when
he got when he got the part I'm like, he's gonna
be good. I'll be like Mike. Yeah He'll be like
just like Mark Zuckerberg, but it's like, oh,
no, he'll just be like Jim Carrey in Batman forever.
Apparently that's what he's going for I thought
he was going for um, what's his name Jean? Very
famous actor. He played Lex Luther Gene Hackman.
I thought he was going for Gene Hackman in the
original. I would be fine with that. But if he's
going for that, he's not getting it. I thought
he was going for the Joker. The first time he
speaks, I'm like, is he trying to be the Joker?
I don't understand. We got a lot of things and
none of them looks Luther. So I don't know that.
I don't. See, I thought I thought like he would
be. Okay, yeah, he's really young compared to
the other guys which Well, he looks young. I
don't know. He's actually Yeah, same age as Cavalier
at least but But like I thought they would do
like the same type of personality though It's
just like a little bit younger version, but it's
like, you know Lex Luthor is supposed to be cold,
brooding, calculated. He only speaks when he
has something important to say. He doesn't just
talk to crack jokes. That's not Lex Luthor. I
don't know. Yeah, and my issue isn't even that
it's not Lex Luthor. I thought it was bad. It
didn't work at all for me. Right. If you're going
to change it, at least do a convincing job, at
least let it be good, but it's not. And I'll
let you talk more about Superman, but even as
a non -Superman fan, I'm like, so many issues.
This is like the saddest Superman ever. Like
we said, it's the asshole Superman. And why does
Superman need an army? Like, why? Superman. Why
would he? And he gets bowed down too. That's
really bizarre. Well, if you look on the soldiers'
shoulders, there's like a, I think there's a
S symbol. Sorry, hope simple Like hooded soldiers
and all black so I get I party wonders if that's
some sort of like is that actually happening
if it's some sort of I Don't know weird trip
out moment. I mean that could be like a swerve
in that end, but still That could be like a like
one of Batman's dreams, like he's dreaming that,
because that's how he sees him. He sees him as
like becoming a dictator, everyone bowing down
to him, you know, coming for him to take his
mask off. Like maybe that's how Batman's seeing
him. So that could very well be a dream. So as
we're saying, in Batman's nightmare, he's been
Affleck. Right in it and in his best dream. He's
Kevin Exactly. So So Chuck, what did you think
of the trailer? I was really excited when it
started because I mean after the first trailer
was released earlier this year It left a lot
to be desired in my mind and I was like, okay,
we're finally gonna get some answers to Like
some of the things that I was questioning so
You know, I watched it and we did get those answers.
I will say I will start out with the one thing
that I really liked about it, which was the theory
behind, you know, that scene with Clark Kent,
Bruce Wayne, Lex Luthor talking out from the
building and them all seemingly knowing the secret
identity of each other. That's at least that's
what I got from it. Yeah It was kind of like,
you know, you see a little back and forth between
Clark and Bruce Wayne, which by the way there
was He's talking about dick Superman, this is
dick Clark He was just like very pushy with his
questions and I'm like he's supposed to be a
bumbling like awkward socially awkward guy that's
like fumbling around for the right thing to say
like this is not Clark Kent but anyway he's being
very forceful and assertive and everything and
you hear Bruce talking about you know maybe it's
the Gotham in me but we just don't take well
to freaks running around just like clowns and
he just kind of looks at him and Clark's like
Oh shit, I think he knows who I am. And then
you see Lex Luthor come over and he's like, wow,
great handshake. And he slaps him on the chest
and he looks directly at Bruce and he's like,
you should not pick a fight with this guy. And
it's kind of like he knows exactly who both of
them are. So I thought that was a really good
idea and concept. The performance there by Jesse
Eisenberg ruined it for me immediately. It was
it was very Tony Stark hitting Thor in the chest
like Yeah, I did I did appreciate what they were
trying to do there, but I think it just could
have been done a little bit better I don't know
but So, yeah, Dick Clark didn't care for that.
That's the title of this episode, by the way,
Dick Clark. I had missed this, which I guess
I wasn't paying close enough attention on during
the past year. But apparently this was revealed
like a year ago that Doomsday was going to be
in this movie. And I somehow missed that. I wasn't
paying attention. But, you know, you see them
in the trailer, they bring Zod's body, you know,
Lex Luthor acquires it somehow, probably through
his military contracts or whatever he has. What's
the end of poker? Amanda Waller. Right. Checkmate.
So, like, he does these events, apparently, and
magically turns Zod into Doomsday. Which, the
more you think about it, really isn't that bad
of an idea to turn Zod into Doomsday. Like, it
probably makes more sense than taking the time
to explain Doomsday's origin. Maybe? I don't
know. Don't really think it'd be that hard, but
it would be hard to grasp for some people I think
it's for your modern, you know lay person audience
watching It's like oh that was the bad guy from
the first one and now they resurrected them to
this even worse bad guy so I guess it makes sense
for The people that aren't like hardcore fans,
but I Think the origin of the actual doomsday
is way way cooler If you're not familiar with
that, you should definitely look it up. It was
basically a Kryptonian that was killed thousands
and thousands of times and kept repeatedly getting
cloned and because of that was immune to every
previous way that it died with every subsequent
iteration. I had a story idea for something like
that before I knew Doomsday existed. Oh yeah?
Yeah. They stole your idea. Great mind, Greg.
I know. but yeah, I mean that kind of makes sense,
but I Don't know doomsday. It just looks like
abomination. That's what I see I see the keepsake
an image of like abomination the lizard from
spider -man the guys from Mario movie and it's
like they They really could have done a better
job on the way he looked Mean cuz I I even had
to question I'm like, is that doomsday? Is that
what they're going for? Like I see kind of some
spikes sticking out But it's not like they didn't
go all the way they didn't fully commit to it
It's like when you when you look at it, you just
like that looks like the full from Lord of the
Rings like I don't know that's Zod back into
like We can't put spikes because that would be
weird but we can put him like on his eyes It
just seems like you could you're so close. Just
just go all the way Yeah, yeah, and then I mean
obviously you have Wonder Woman show up at this
opportune time and everything But it just the
whole thing leads back to like you were saying
You're ruining the the whole premise of the movie
By showing that scene that they're oh, they're
fighting they hate each other now. All of a sudden.
They're cracking jokes and they're buddies God
though. She was with you like In executive worried
that people won't like people or families won't
go see it cuz they're like I don't want I don't
want the superheroes fighting They should be
getting along. So we got to show them at the
end that they all they all get together. So That
are having the shot of the three trio together
But did you see the the image of people are complaining
about that looks like Batman's holding some sort
of gun or something like that like a machine
gun I I did notice it in the in that image when
they show the three of them standing there. He's
holding some kind of blaster thing or guns looking
thing, but I didn't really like I I noticed it
because Obviously Batman hates guns We all know
that from the comics. It's something that he
abhors So I could I could see where like a hardcore
batman would have fan would have a problem with
that but I mean, let's wait and see what it is
first because maybe it's like some kind of Weird
device that's meant to incapacitate this zombies
on Yeah, it's that's my thing because like I
remember, you know dark knight rises or whatever
he had that like I the that weird looking gun
thing too that people are figuring out about
That just kind of took out the electronics and
stuff of things. So who knows what it's gonna
be. I'm not Yeah, I just I was curious if you
guys heard that at all Yeah But I'm just like
I'm just kind of confused that they're doing
this the opposite way that Marvel's doing like
Marvel's Introducing each character first and
then teaming them up And DC is kind of teaming
them up first and introducing them later. So
at least with like Wonder Woman and, uh, you
know, some of the other characters that they're
going to throw in there. Cause I mean, they have
like these Justice League movies planned and
then they're making like, and then they're doing
the Wonder Woman movie and then they're doing
the flash movie and then they're doing the Green
Lantern movie. Like, it just seems odd. I'm kind
of curious if it's going to work out for them.
Don't mind him doing it the reverse way like
my like I said, it might actually end up being
a good movie But my shoe it's like you kind of
you kind of just let the cat out of the bag way
too soon for no reason so Yeah, all right anything
else before we bring this episode to a close
All righty, well I hear what you think of the
