About this Episode

The hosts dive into the season 2 opener of Jem and the Holograms, covering "The Talent Search" parts 1 and 2, and "The Scandal." They discuss the introduction of new band members Rhea and Jetta, Eric Raymond's creepy behavior, Shayna's departure, and how the show handles tabloid drama through Kimber's stolen diary.

Ladies and gentlemen TF2 and Mike here this episode

of Showtime synergy was recorded over a year

ago But I just wanted to let everyone know as

of May 18th 2015 my mom passed away I'm not doing

so well with it So I may not be putting out Showtime

synergy episodes for a while. I'm not sure But

here's episode 9 of the podcast which kicks off

season two of Gem and the Holograms. Enjoy. It's

your old bestie, Gem, and you're listening to

Showtime Synergy with Mike, Amy, and Nicole.

What a truly outrageous podcast this is. Welcome

to Showtime synergy the gym review podcast here

in the Geek Caster Network I am Emma joining

me or my hologram girls Amy aka lady rec. Hello.

I'm here Yes, you are and Nicole hailstorm. Hello

Okay, then podcast like we haven't already gone

off the rails already Something about pants.

You did not just say that. I don't know the difference

between creepy and sexy, but in my world, it's

the same. Considering who your pretend boyfriend

is, yeah, I would say so. Which one? The giant

robot. I was going to say Loki? No. Oh God, let's

not open that can of worms. Oh, we can. We can.

I think we've already gone there. I said it already.

Oh God. In this episode, we're going to be kicking

off season two of Gem and the Holograms where

we talk about the first three episodes, the talent

search two parter and the scandal. It's scandalous.

Yeah, and it might not to reveal my hand, but

honestly, it might be the best episode of the

day. I have to say, everything about this episode

that we're going to be reviewing was pretty good.

I was very impressed. Season 2 is starting off

with a bang, man. Oh, yeah. Yep, exactly. All

right, we're going to get to it after this. First

up is the Talent Search Part 1. The air date

was September 21, 1987. Problems affect Jem and

the Holograms. When Shayna leaves to pursue a

fashion career, the Holograms decide to host

a Talent Search to find a new drummer. News of

this spreads like wildfire, which also catches

the attention of the Misfits. The Misfits decide

to upstage the Talent Search by adding a new

Misfit, a hot -tempered saxophone player from

England named Jedha. After so many disastrous

auditions, the holograms choose two finalists,

a shy but talented young woman named Carmen Alonso,

nicknamed Rhea by her father, and a keen drummer

named Craig Phillips. Soon, Rhea accidentally

discovers Jem's real identity and Eric Raymond

attempts to bribe Rhea into revealing it to him.

At least he's consistent, right? I'll get to

that later. Um, you featured songs in this one

are, I like your style, the misfits, believe

in yourself, Jim and the holograms. And I got

my eye on you, Jim and the holograms. Now I got

my eye on you. Is that a reuse? I thought that,

I thought that was a reuse. And I'll say this

for the reuse songs, they, I didn't think that

they would use them well. I didn't, I didn't

think that that would like translate. but it

really does in how they did the imagery and how

it fit into the episode. So it's not like, oh,

hey, here's the song from season one that you

heard, but it's not going to make any sense,

which it did, which is really cool. What do we

think of the plot of the first part? I liked

it. I liked what happened. I liked the fact that

season two starts off like this. It just seems

like all of a sudden it's like, wow, these are

really, you know, really strong episodes. I thought

it was a great. A great way to start season two

is, hey, let's add new members. And of course,

you know, you expect, oh, we're going to add

one to gem and the holograms. We're going to

add one to the Misfits too. It just works for

me. It was really good. Absolutely. What about

you, Nicole? I agree. I started off really well.

Cause you know, it's kind of true to life. Bands

break up. I mean, bands have to replace members.

And so this, I kind of, I kind of like that.

It plays on that part, you know, so and then

they had an audition because I remember This

tells you how old I am when MTV had music videos

and stuff Metallica was looking for a new guitarist

and they had an audition and a Contest and I

was just like that tells you how old I am people

So I was just like, oh yeah, I could see this

happening. And I thought it was great how they

went out and found a new, well, went out and

tried to find a new drummer. I really liked it.

I really enjoyed it. The one thing I pulled out

of this as I was watching the two -parter is...

They found a way to use, but not use, Ed McMahon

and Starsearch. Because if you look at it, it's

the Starlight talent search. You take light and

talent out, it's basically Starsearch without

Ed McMahon. Well, and they put a little bit more

of a modern spin on it. I mean, hey, how many

of you guys have watched, you know... Crap, now

my brain's not gonna work, right? American Idol.

Yeah, where you've got like the whole reality

TV thing where they go around and start touring

places for like Weeks before they actually get

a group of people together and then they have

semi -finalists and they you know whittle it

down It's reality TV, you know With the people

going down the street and halfway around the

block and you see him whittle down after the

day So yeah, it was really good. I thought it

was pretty true. It seemed pretty realistic to

me absolutely absolutely I love the first part

I think it's really interesting I only have when

we get down to the section I only have a couple

of misfit moments I mean overall this is a pretty

solid start to the second season yeah I had a

hard time pulling out misfit moments on these

this to parter episode too so let's get to the

hologram moments for part one after this It is

time for the hologram moments. You know, I hate

to beat a dead horse or two dead horses. One

has green hair, one has white hair. But Stormer

is right. The Misfits could use some new blood

and brains too. But I mean, they really could

use a new instrument. Because let's face it,

I have not been dishonest about my dislike of

most of the Misfits songs. It's just they just

don't sound that great and until now I think

the songs that Jetta has been in or will be in

though that we'll talk about is by far improved

the band Well, that's just different tastes Why

why is it that I had Nicole's voice in my head

when Roxy says they don't come any better than

me Buster part just like don't they don't come

any better than me Buster That was a brilliant

moment. She's really good at those one -liners

aren't isn't she? Every single time that she

says something, it's just great. And Raya, she

goes back and she forgot the flowers and she

finds out. Now, this is so simple. Finally! Finally!

Why couldn't anybody under the sun, that doesn't

even have to be one of the Misfits or Eric Raymond,

but anybody can go back and look into an open,

a halfway open door, like a crack in a door.

It's like, seriously, this is so simple. Eric,

if you want to find out who Jem is, just go stalker

outside of her dressing room you've done far

worse already yeah let's not be creepy and you

know be really stalker like right well he's i

mean he's tried to blow them up he's sent them

off cliffs i mean you know he he's done worse

than stalking at this point true but still let's

bring out the creep factor right well that'll

come at the end when i talk about the misfit

moments because the ending to this that was The

end to part one is less of a cliffhanger than

basically just shoving you off the cliff. It's

like, oh my god, you did not just do that. And

at least Nicole can't complain that Rio is in

the video. the uh... in the one i've got my eye

on you because he's not it's uh... it's craig

actually i don't know if you're gonna be in this

whole show just saying. He's in it in this first

part because he's he's getting people like there

was that one geeky guy that came in with a single

drum and ryo's like yeah no i didn't even notice

that he was in it. That tells you how much of

an impact ryo has on this show really. yeah he

was there for a few I was distracted with a baby

snake sorry what did you like about the first

part Amy oh geez there's a lot of great things

Anthony is back and there's a kiss I liked I

liked I'm glad I was glad that Anthony is back

you know so because we've been talking about

hey he left Shana high and dry is now he's back

with a job to take her away from the holograms

so that, you know, she can be a designer again.

Yay, which sort of kind of is a half yay and

a half nay. I'm glad I was really I was thrilled

to see Jenna come back in to to come back to

come on to the show. So it's good to have that

sassy UK woman that she is. She's awesome. Let's

see here. I like the Jetta Roxy face off. They're

like, and each other's faces. That was great.

That'll be in the post. I've already screen kept

that. Um, I like that the, I mentioned how the,

the line goes down the street and around the

building is when, you know, Raya comes to, to

audition. She's like, Oh, is this the end of

the line? Like, no, back there. And she keeps

going. It's great. Seems really real. As I said

before, it's, it's very realistic. And I liked

that. Um, I like how Ray's dad gets involved

to get her into an audition. Cause she's just

like, Oh, she just has no confidence whatsoever.

And it's like, girl, come on, man, you know,

how to lay it down on the drums. You know, you

know, you just have a little bit of confidence

in that, but you know, a family standing behind

her and just really worked. Um, let's see. I

already said this finally. Somebody sees Gem

change to Jerika. Too bad it wasn't Rio. Of course,

you know if it was, he would have slammed that

door open and say, I knew it. I knew you were

keeping secrets from me. It would have been awesome.

Oh, and I love the fact that Craig and Aja are

like kind of like they're making eyes at each

other and they're like, Hey, cause Aja hasn't

had a boyfriend interest until now. So it's kind

of like, Ooh, okay. You know, they have the blue

hair vibe going on. So it just makes sense. Right.

They're going to have babies. I think it was

pretty interesting that, you know, they had the.

Reality TV moments where they they get together

with all the candidates Only sad thing is is

that like, you know, some of them are actually

kind of mean But the two that aren't mean are

that the two finalists, right? Of course That's

funny And I'm gonna have to throw this in here

because you know innuendo we can't go through

a show without innuendo you play a wicked sass

What are you saying I put that in my hologram

moment you play a wicked sax I was like, yeah,

that's gonna go my hologram moment And that's

me What about you Nicole? Okay. Um, I I Enjoyed

that they brought in the saxophone as well. I

It was cuz they were talking when they're talking

about a new instrument They usually bring in

like a guitar or something, or maybe even a keyboardist.

But to have a sax, that's kind of different,

and I liked it. Kind of reminds me back in the

day of my favorite movie, Lost Boys, the saxophone

player. Holy crap. Okay. Anyone else remember

that? Or is it just me? It's just you. The saxophone

player in Lost Boys. People, if you remember

that, let me know. Okay. I loved how Aja was

playing hard to get. because she was like, we're

looking for all these serious, serious drummers.

She had that wink on her face or something. I'm

like, I love it. The kind of that kind of look

is a challenge, you know, Craig. Exactly. And

I love it. I'm serious. This is where I'm starting

to really like Aja. She's finally getting a personality

that is something besides the serious. Bad driver,

you know? But you know, exercises, right? Exercise.

She does show that off in these episodes, though.

She's we've only been running. I've been ready

for five miles. Screw you. Wow. I did like how

when Shauna Shauna. Sorry, Shauna. I've been

talking to my friend Shana right now, so I apologize

it happens. Shayna, when she decided to go to

do her designing, she took her rocker makeup

off and I thought that was kind of, that was

a nice, just subtle change. I thought that was,

that was interesting. Again, Reyes father, how

he got her into the audition. Awesome. And he,

I just love how supportive he is. I just enjoy

that you see a good positive father figure because

that's especially like with Disney films and

stuff. It's very hard to see a good father figure.

Let's see. Oh, and Roxa, Roxa. Roxa? Who the

hell is a Roxa? Roxy versus Jenna. I combined

them together. See what I did there. Roxy versus

Jenna. It's on and this is where it starts and

I'm gonna love it. Yeah. Those are my, I just

love it with those two bicker all the time. Good

old cat fights Right this is where it starts

off. They always have a rivalry at this point

Yes, but you know it makes sense for the for

the Misfits that you know Roxy has Owns the stage

until Jetta starts trying to get in. Yep exactly

All right, I think we're gonna head to the Misfit

moments for part one of the talent search after

this It is that time again for Misfit Moments

for the first of season two for the Talent Search

part one. Yeah, that wasn't executed well in

them telling Shayna their plans so she can go.

That whole thing should have been, and this is

Kristy Marks writing this. I know it is because

I looked at my little script thing there. And

I just wish that was executed a little bit better.

Like if they would have said, okay, well, we

want you to go ahead. and do this this is an

opportunity for you but we still need to find

somebody for the ban I mean yeah sure comes around

the end it's fine but I don't know if I like

that setup of conflict where it's like oh yeah

we don't need you anymore it's like oh god it

just left a bad taste in my mouth it's drama

it was supposed to be kind of drama -ish yeah

but and then The end of part one. Wow. Eric is

really creepy like beyond what he's already been

You know Just like and this girl is supposed

to be what a teenager it just Feels like Eric

Raymond should be on one of those crime shows

those those like wives with knives on Investigation

Discovery. Why have I not known about this? I

need to watch that. There are so many adult crime

shows, and I don't mean adult as in porn, but

there's so many real -life crime shows on that

channel. There's Blood Relatives, there's Forbidden,

there's Tabloid, which is hosted by Jerry Springer.

There's going to be a new one. premiered Last

year in 2014 called Momsters it's supposed to

be monsters, but it's momsters some monsters

Yeah, guess who guess who's hosting that one

Ryan Seacrest Roseanne bar herself the ultimate

momster What do you have for misfit moments,

Amy? Uh Shayna, she's a little manipulative,

isn't she? Yeah, she is. Jeez. All she wanted

to do was just play the guitar for a little bit,

man. If there was ever a time for me to place

the police wrapped around... my finger for her

and Anthony. Cause oh my God, has she got that

guy? Just even with the rest of them, she's like,

Oh, you don't want me anymore. I'm leaving. It's

like, really? It's like, come on, man. These

are your, these are your like, you know, BFFs

that you've had since you were, well, we find

out more about that later. Of course. I think

someone was just riding the crimson tide a little

too high and yeah, it got a little too tense.

Yeah, but you know, it's, it's interesting because

like even after Shana leaves and they're like,

Oh, we miss Shane already, but they want her

to have this really great opportunity. And then

it turns out to not be a great opportunity, but

they didn't know that. I mean, if they'd known

that she was like half miserable and, you know,

calling and saying, Hey, actually this is harder

than I expected it to be. And my boss is insane.

You know, I think they probably would have been

a little bit more, Oh, well, maybe we shouldn't

be having this thing, but yeah, I mean, they

had to, because of course we've got to have a

reason to have a fourth person. But yeah, I,

the one thing I did like, Oh, I didn't say this

yet in my hologram moment, but I should, but

I liked the fact that even actually as a two

parter, they kind of let you think that maybe

there might be a guy as a drummer. because right

kind of steps forward. I mean, it's an all girl

band. And in the business, it's been an all girl

band thing. And so I remember as a kid being

really interested to find out what's going to

go on because there's a dude now there could

be a guy and I was thinking, Oh, it's Ken. Wait,

I thought that was Rio's role. Well, actually,

I think Craig plays it much better. True. Like

I said before, Rio's got the same anatomy as

the Ken doll. He could be the roadie and Craig

will be the you know, the new dude But anyhow,

yeah, I Shayna it's in there for a reason to

kind of keep it like so that she can separate

and go do her thing But yeah, she's a little

manipulative. I was like wow, man. Somebody's

got the Bitch hat on today. I think Ray, I gave

up a little too easy. She seems to be a little

too like, oh, I have no self -confidence. It's

even worse than Shayna. You would think that

the two people without any self -confidence would

actually get together and team up on the rest

of the group. It may be. I don't know. It's weird.

She can have a lack of confidence, but the way

that she acts is like, just so sensitive. And

it's just like, she's more sensitive than Shayna.

Bring Shayna back, please. The only animation

error I saw was this really, it was a small little

section in the cell cells where like you have

a picture of Raya and she looks browner than

she should with neon neon pink hair and lips

and everything. And she just looked like she

was glowing. So it was odd, but it was only there

for a minute. It was more of like a little color

mishap, but other than that, there really weren't

a lot of misfit moments in this one. It was pretty

solid. So before Nicole goes, I have to bring

up Ray's hair. We have to talk about Ray's hair

because I'm sorry. There's more pink than jam.

Yeah. Oh, good. Newbies have got some major hair.

I don't know. There are the two that actually

killed off the environment in the eighties with

those hairdos. Both Freya and Jetta have massive

hair. I'm talking about, if you look at Jenna's

hair, it's like twice as tall as her head. It

makes her face look like she's got a shrunken

head. Yeah. I'm just like, okay, the hair is

a little too big. I know back in the eighties,

it was supposed to be big, but she's overdoing

it. Tone it down. Yeah. It's like, who's got

the biggest hair on the show? I do! What else

you got, Nicole? Yeah, the overreacting of Shayna.

She just... I mean, communication is key, people.

I mean, she didn't even give him a chance to...

I mean, I know girls that are like this, and

that's what's sad. It's just like, oh, well,

I... You said this to me, I'm going to take it

to a whole new level and just avalanche this,

you know? It's just crazy. I didn't care how...

It's kind of like Anchorman. Well, that escalated

quickly, you know? Again, Gem slash Jerrica really

needs to get her transformation timing in public.

Shish, no better by now. You don't transform

while you're in public. You go to the bathroom

in a stall. You just don't do it on a whim, especially

when you just had auditions. Well, you would

think that would make sense because, hey, they've

been doing auditions all day. Did they take a

break? Yeah, exactly. Go in the bathroom. There

you go. Especially, I'm pretty sure there's people

still lingering around in the building. If not,

the janitorials, they might still be there. People

will walk out. You just don't do it. I this one

of the things there's just on my And then the

whole synergy lecture I mean this this time she

gave a lecture of like a my secret was to get

out But you got to remember the last in season

one. She was kind of like saying hey, maybe let's

just try this out Where's the lecture there?

Oh, well, you know, Jim reveals her secret. Raya

sees it. But, you know, synergy also failed at

that, too. She showed herself as well. Yeah.

So and then, of course, I'm this is my major

thing with Jim, the timing again, the timing

that the whole timing is off. They they're like,

OK, we got 24 hours. And we will have the contest

that like we'll have the voting in 24 hours in

that 24 hours They had publications Eric had

lunch with Rhea trying to swindle her and all

these tickets were sold out in 24 hours, and

I'm just like Because then I had that big huge

magazine with pictures of Craig and Ray on the

front and stuff. I'm like, ah, this timing's

off and it's driving me nuts. If it was a week,

I could understand a week, but 24 hours, no.

Not back in the 80s. They didn't have the internet

back then. true but you gotta think though back

in the eighties we had you know millions of fans

running out and by any uh... how many people

in the eighties went out and bought madonna tickets

day one as soon as they were on site that's the

only thing with the timeline that all kind of

forgive is the fact that the tickets sold out

in twenty four hours because that did used to

have a okay i was is that I mean, like I said,

so they had the publication, the magazine with

Ray and Craig on it. Apparently Eric got a really

early copy of it because he's like, I'm going

to start with her, you know? And then of course,

Stormer saw her brother on the cover and then

she had to go and talk to him. Wait, wait, wait.

He didn't know that it was his brother and her

brother yet. Oh, that's right. It's next episode,

they say. Yeah, I'm sorry. But you know, she's

like, it's a dead giveaway. They both have blue

hair. Come on, man. Well, she's like, oh, that's

that's the other winner. And she she ran out,

remember? Yeah. Yeah. And so you're just like,

so apparently she got in touch with and yeah,

I just don't care for the timing. All right.

Let's get for that rambling. No, no, it's great.

I'm just gonna depart to the talent search after

this. I don't even know, whatever. Rhea resists

Eric's attempt to get the secret out of her.

While he decides to stand up to Eric, Jetta swipes

money from Eric's wallet, which she uses to hire

a gang to destroy Rhea's father's nursery so

that Rhea will go to Eric and get the money where

she will reveal Jim's identity. The plan backfires

when Rhea spots Jetta wearing one of her father's

orchids and her hair. Rhea lashes out at Jetta,

Eric in the Misfits, then vowed never to reveal...

Wait, what? This is written all wrong. Eric in

the Misfits... Yeah, it's rotten already. Something

like that. Where Rhea lashes out at Jedha and

never is going to reveal Jim's secret to the

likes of them, Craig turns up a moment later

threatening Eric to pay restitution to the Alonzo

family for destroying their nursery and also

the misfits for them threatening to throw Stormer

out of the group. After the talent search the

winner is announced and shana returns to the

holograms the songs featured on disc one of season

two are show me the way uh beat this and all's

right with the world all my gem in the holograms

so no misfit songs yeah thoughts on the plot

amy i liked it like again it's just a continuation

of the first of the first of the first part if

i can speak it um i like the Reg element, although

he does kind of go back and forth a little bit

like, um, I'm going to have my sister. I love

my sister, but hey, this is nuts and I'm not

going to do it. Blah, blah, blah, blah. And then

finally, you know, he just turns into a thug

and says, Eric, if you threaten me again. Go

pay for these people. I'm Batman. And then turns

around and tells the misfits, you be mean to

my sister, I'm gonna beat you up. You know, there

you go. Well, that is spot on, Amy. Spot on.

I swear to God, if Michael Keaton voiced Craig

Phillips, he would also be Batman and Ken from

Toy Story 3. Brilliant. Brilliant. But yeah,

you know, he has his moments and then he, you

know, gets it straight because, you know, I would

like to believe that Stormer would be exactly

the same way, you know, cares about his little

sister. Don't mess with the little sister. So,

yeah. Um, but yeah, it really worked for me.

I really liked it. Um, I liked all of the, the

conflict that was going on. Of course, it was

all, most of it was set up in the, in the first

part, but it just, you got a lot of really good

payoff in this, in this episode. So. Raya, who

we all hoped once she figured out Jem's real

identity, you know, we all hope that she's going

to be like, Hey, I'm, I'm not gonna, I'm, I'm

not going to tell the secret because you know,

I like Jem and I would, I don't want money. I

want, I would rather play in a band, right? I

want these guys to be my new BFFs. So, Hey, you

know, I think she picked the right choice and

you know what? Don't mess with Raya because.

Man. You know, yeah, you you mess with her family.

She'd be crazy on your on your hair. Got three

older brothers, remember? True, true. But you

know, I liked the whole she grabbed the Reyes

hairs like, oh, I'm gonna kill you. It was just

like, oh, my gosh. Don't mess with Ray, man.

She'll cut you up. She'll cut you up. Goodness,

it was good. It's good Unicle the plot for part

two. I really enjoyed this I I think the reason

why I liked it is because we get We get to see

characterization not just a Vraya because she's

gonna be a new character, but we got a little

more insight to stormers story And I really like

that I know. I loved that. I was like, aw, she's

got such a beautiful little, you know, a name

that's just like so innocent. And it fits her.

You know, I think it really fits her. Yeah, I

really enjoyed this. There's hardly anything

I could say that was wrong with this. There is

a few things. I do have some misfit moments,

but I'm really nitpicking when it comes to it.

I agree. Yeah, there are a few things, but overall,

this is a pretty solid start to season two. I

like the end of the story here in part two. It

kind of wrapped itself, you know, up in a nice

little bow. And, you know, by the end of the

episode, everybody's all happy, happy, gaga and

everything else. And so that was really cool.

Let's get to the... Not everyone's happy. Well,

most of them. The chair lost a lot of money.

He did, yeah. Well, Eric and the Misfits are

never happy, so I mean... Yes, but if they were

happy, then the gem and the holograms would be

sad. You know, karma and all that, to balance

out somehow. Zazz kind of said that in this episode.

What's good for gem is bad for the Misfits. What's

good for the Misfits is bad. I'm like, yeah,

that's true. That's the premise of the whole

show. Let's get to the hologram moments after

this. It's hologram moment time for part two

of the talent search Wow Craig is stormers brother.

I knew there was something funny going on with

stormer in part one when she ran off Yeah, it's

the hair. That's the hair I really dig how stand

-up Craig is and I was hoping that lamp would

choke Eric forever There's a I know that constricting

moment. I feel that There's a moment at the end

where Shana says something about Cutting her

own path or whatever else and even Kimber says

wow. That was a terrible pun Yeah, yeah I think

she just wasn't cut out for that monster of a

boss that she had. Oh, yeah. Talk about drama

queen. Oh my gosh. Wow. Jim and the holograms

have nothing on them. In fact, the Misfits have

nothing on this woman either. No, not at all.

What about you, Amy? What did you like about

part two? I loved the fact that they played off

more of the Aja Craig pair up. It's like, oh,

they're so cute. together I like how eventually

Craig bows out of the whole thing because of

the situation that is and I know it was it was

complicated and you know he had his reasons but

I was just like you know he's kind of the cool

guy oh my gosh I wanted to marry this guy by

the end of the episode like Osh is lucky man

It's like, why don't they just send Rio off and

replace him with Craig? Because Craig is so much

more awesome. What's that sigh there? I don't

know. That would create a whole other problem

for Jim and the Holograms if Aja is dating Stormer's

brother. That would create a whole bunch of more

problems. It could, but it could also be really

interesting too. I was surprised that like at

the first when Craig is like, Hey, I'm not going

to do that or whatever. And he turns around and

leaves and Stormer didn't get more heat for it,

but then eventually she does. She's like, Hey,

they're going to look, they're going to make

me kick me out. She does the whole. I'm your

little sister. I've got tears. See? See? This

is important to me. See, I was thinking about

this. I was thinking about this. I'm like, if

they did kick Stormer out, they'd be back wanting

her again shortly. Just like that what happened,

you know? Because, let's face it, Pizzazz would

not be able to take Roxy and Jetta. Doing their

thing all the time. She's gonna need somebody

like stormer that can be like helping to break

that up She'd be outnumbered and those two would

be like head -to -head all the time, you know

So having a stormer there is like that extra

person to balance the two, you know It's not

like pizzazz can like hold two people back at

the same time. She needs another person So, you

know that at least for that, you know Stormer

would have to be there Uh, I like the drum off

with Ray and Craig. Uh, I also did like the Craig

twisting the lamp around Eric's neck. Cause you

know, um, I like that Raya, like I said, she

gets all, she's going to cut you, man. She, you

know, pulls Raya real good. Yeah. Yeah. She's

just like, ah, she sees the orchid and she's

like, ah, Things I'm going to kill And again,

this is what I suggest is that Craig should become

a bouncer to the gem roadies just Yeah, cuz he

would just be perfect fit cuz he's too cool Um,

and I want more Craig in the future I'm sad that

we're not gonna get to see him for a little while

cuz he's just in two episodes Yeah, just yeah,

I want this character back I'm glad that Raya

won. I love that Shayna finally, you know, grows

a backbone and quits with her boss, the drama

queen. And I like the fact that Raya Warren's

gem. But it's like really silly that Rhea runs

off when Shayna comes back like oh they don't

want me anymore because Shayna's back I was like

wow really? I could understand where she's coming

from because she didn't know that that Shayna

could actually play another instrument. She didn't

even say goodbye. It's the way I can understand

where she came from because it's just like well

I don't want to ruin this moment. I don't want

them to feel sorry for me. She's willing to pull

Jetta's hair. And be all aggressive for that.

But for this, she's like, aw. Yeah, that's a

whole different situation. Because she knows

that these women have a tight bond together.

She just didn't want a pity party. And I don't

blame her. But that's me. What about you, Nicole?

Let's see. What can I add to it? I really like

the drum off. I thought that was pretty fun.

Beat this beat that Like I said before I like

knowing more about stormers family life and her

brother I thought that the interaction between

those two were really cute because you could

actually feel like they are very close and Little

kiss on the forehead. Oh, so cute. Okay. Yeah,

Craig my gosh He needs to teach men lessons on

how to be a man because my gosh I feel blown

with this guy No, he needs just teach Rio on

Yes, but the lessons that Rio has to learn cannot

be taught by Craig. Yes. And I have here, I like

Craig's way of doing business. The wrapping with

the wrapping around with the lights, you know,

I like how he cornered the misfits. Like you

will not do this. Okay. Like I said, he's Batman

he's like I Mean yeah, it's he's one of those

characters that He's not gonna take any guff

from anybody, and this is probably one of the

first times that the Misfits have really ever

been put in their place. Like, really put in

their place. I know Eric does it sometimes when

they screw up, but like, again, like we said,

you know, kicking off Season 2, and just bam

bam bam, all this stuff is in your face, and

it plays out so well, as I said earlier, it's

a few execution things that I have an issue with,

but other than that... I mean, so far, so good.

Yeah, I wish there was more Craig. Yeah, I like

him. Yeah, I think I think he really made both

of the episodes. But well, I like Raya, too.

But there was just something about him. So, yeah,

those were my hologram moments. I was honestly

actually worried for a little while that they

were going to like pick Craig over Raya, because

it was like as a kid, they played his character

up so well that it just like. They did with ran

too, but he just came off as such a strong character

that you're like you wanted him to stay so when

he leaves it's like oh I would I would have liked

to see how the series would have turned out if

By any chance they did have a male drummer, you

know, I wonder how that would have how that would

have gone It's like a whole it's like a parallel

universe, you know, just That would be It would

be interesting And it would be if you think about

it everybody except Maria because she's too young

but all of the holograms and Jim At this point

all have significant others Jim and Jericho have

Rio Kimber either has Sean or Jeff or somebody

Okay, let's just stick to Sean or Jeff depending

on the day And then Aja would have Craig. Yeah.

Finally, Aja gets somebody. I know. That's what

I should have put. I had that as one of my notes

in the first one. Yeah, Aja gets her man. But

unfortunately, he doesn't get to stick around.

Yeah, I know. It's so sad. I didn't like that

part. All right. Let's get to the misfit moments

for part two after this. of being bad people.

Let's get to the misfit moments for the talent

search. Wow, Eric is an ass. Like we didn't already

know this, but like even more of an ass in this

episode, in this two part. I like how they used

both Ray and Craig in the final, but Jim says

it's going to be a drum solo like a. like a battle

of the drummers type of thing and then they launch

into a song and i'm like no don't do that let

the two drummers play so we can hear them yeah

that was really my only problem with that um

i know stormer is being serious but it just seems

beneath her to beg her brother like that for

gem secret it just i stormer is not the begging

character that's more pizzazz's style that's

true they did threaten her Even so see this comes

to one of my misfit most I think stormer. Okay.

This is this is how deep I've done stormer suffers

from codependency She always needs someone's

approval She always needs someone's suggestions

to help her push her along and she wouldn't like

exist without the misfits Yeah, yeah, she did

if she didn't have the misfits. She wouldn't

Be who she is. That's why she's to that point

where she's got to ask her brother for this.

So she doesn't lose that that security. Well,

and even if he even when he suggests that she

that she leaves them, she's like, I wouldn't

be able to exist without them. And I'm like,

when? Really? Sure, you can. We know this because

we've we've seen later in the episode, you know,

in the season when, you know, you and Kimber

go off and do your thing. Well, the thing is,

but she's still relying on another person. She

didn't completely go solo. You remember true.

She does suffer from that that codependent And

I honestly she's just in into her ways where

she that's why she has to go big because she

doesn't want to lose that Because she wouldn't

know what to do Psychology people. Yes Throughout

the whole episode poor shana. She has been so

mistreated by that quote -unquote star like oh

My god is her name. I think yeah Someone would

have had us to let us heal through the temple,

and she probably could get away with that murder

because that woman's a bitch. Yeah. The sad thing,

it reminds me of when I was, back when I was

a young guy in States custody. Back in my day.

Yeah, back in my day, there were several times

when, wow, I can't believe I'm still talking

in this old man voice. I should talk like this

more often, shouldn't I? Several times throughout

my journey through the state of Kentucky custody,

I would run into this lady every now and then

because she moved different positions and everything

else. Her name was Jeanette Stratton, and she

was easily the most dragon lady of Anyone I ever

came across to in like adults in states care

Oh God is so her avatar is Shana's boss pretty

much. Yeah, actually I had a boss similar to

Shana's we used to call her Hitler in high heels

Because one story time we were doing inventory

we got everything done and made my friend that

would work together We sat and we relaxed for

a minute few minutes. She's like, she's like,

do you guys have everything done? And we're like,

yeah. And she took the box of all the paperwork,

threw it on the ground. And she says, now you

have something to do. Wow. And we're just like,

we wanted to kill her. So I bet just because

when you, you know, oh, yeah. Hitler in high

heels. Hitler in high heels. Yeah. That's kind

of like my first grade teacher mrs. Weston I

was always a messy kid when it came to my desk

at school And I couldn't find my colored pencils

or magic markers. She actually this is one of

those old You know first grade sit -in desks.

It's all one unit. She told me to stand up She

and this is an old lady. She had to have been

60 50 60 years old something like that. She made

me stand up in the middle of the class She picked

up my desk and dumped everything Oh, yeah, that

was crazy. Wow. So bad, bad, bad, bad. As we're

talking about Mismit Moments. Yes, Amy, Mismit

Moments for this one. Yeah, Shayna's boss is

a monster. Definitely, you know, high heel Hitler.

There you go. I like the fact that Craig eventually

even tells them to, you know, blow it out their

ear, but he... Yeah, he has this saucepot for

his sister. He knows how to manipulate, too,

because he pulls the whole thing without Aja.

So it's like, hmm, yeah. Yeah, everybody knows

how to manipulate one way or the other. But I

have to say, Jetta, she is getting the thugs

instead of Eric. He is losing face on the show,

I tell you. She's going to encroach on his territory,

because, yeah, she does the thug thing. This

is exactly what I expected of Eric. But Jetta

is just so much better at it. Did you see how

she took care of those thugs? Yeah, yeah, it's

like, yeah, don't mess with Jetta, man. But yeah,

Eric, you've got to do something, man. You're

going to lose face on the show. And that's pretty

much it. I couldn't really knock too much in

this episode because there was just so much good

stuff in it. So, yeah. And now it's time to get

to nitpick Nicole. What? Hey, you're the one

that said you had nitpicks. I did I still have

a problem with the reuse of the songs There's

some of them that works. Some of them don't this

episode. I guess I just had a problem because

there was no misfit songs Yeah, there's no real

I think Craig looks like he took weightlifting

classes from he man There's a there's a couple

of animation points where he just looks really

massively huge. His body does it. He's just got

a little head. There you go. Yeah. And it's just

like, he looks a little too big, you know, and

some, so that's, that's what I put in here. Instead

of being green, he's blue. There you go. Yeah.

And of course we caught, talked about a Stormer's

codependency. That's what I had I like I said

I was nitpicking But I really did enjoy this

oh Here's here's something to nitpick at there's

no in encore or PSA's there you go Yeah, what's

been happening there man? I think they just need

all that time to you know finish up the the plot

You know for the season opener, but plus they

put like a three and a half minute Previously

on that's why that's probably yeah, that's true

So alright, we're gonna get to the final episode

after this Finally up today is the scandal of

the air date for this one was September 23rd

in 1987 so we've had Three episodes within a

day of each other. That's pretty sweet. Yeah,

that's pretty cool. Pretty cool the holograms

and the misfits and Sean Harrison Yeah, Sean's

back Yeah, Sean is back and he has asked Kimber

to write a song for him to perform. All are in

Venice Beach, California. The holograms are there

to perform a concert at a roller skating club

to appear the next evening on the Harriet Horne

show, a popular rock music TV personality. While

the holograms think they are not much to gossip

about, Jetta stumbles onto Kimber's diary and

the misfits give it to Pitt Scherm Slurman. a

publisher of cool trash magazine, the nation's

most recognized tabloid. After Kimber and the

holograms recover the diary, Slurman with help

from Pizzazz and Jetta twist the story saying

Kimber is in love with Sean and he has no feelings

for her whatsoever. Kimber must be strong and

stand up to the scandal to come out of it on

top. Disc 1 for season 2 featured songs are...

She makes an impression. This is where I felt

like a reused song really worked. It is a reused

song, but I felt that it worked very well. That

one did work, I admit. Because the first one,

the impression song, was about starlight girls.

And we also have I Love a Scandal by the Misfits.

in Dear Diary. Was that a shutter? Did you not

like that song? No. I liked that song. Might

be the worst song the Misfits have done to date.

Scandal. I love a scandal. Worse than Misfits

in Hawaii? No. No, no, no. Misfits in Hawaii

is like... The mother of all laughable songs.

And the thing is, it's still catchy. But Scandal

is like, yeah, Scandal is like, ah, you expect

this from the Misfits. So. For me on the plot

for this one, I kind of dug it. I thought it

was interesting. It was nice to see Sean back,

finally. So we realize he's not off somewhere

in a ditch. Um, or he didn't, you know, he's

off somewhere in a ditch. No, he's been off,

you know, running his own show. Yep. So, you

know, it's Sean. Sean's run off to decide whether

he is British or Australian. I thought he was

Australian too. Cause that's what I wrote down.

I'll get to that in my hologram. Sean is off

to break other people's hearts. Yeah, pretty

much. Overall, I think this works very well.

Again, we get a spotlight on Kimber, and we see

more of her personality, and we see more of her

as a writer and a song person. You're going to

write, you're going to build her up. I was like,

after all the stuff she says in her diary, really?

No. OK, yeah, but. i'm sure rio should have stepped

in and gave it her election i'm sorry um i'm

not saying she's the best character on the series

she isn't but i mean it's like it shows you what

you know what thoughts some people might have

and it's just little mundane things that no one

would ever say to each other you know that's

bad enough that she wrote them down oh my gosh

woman I can see we're gonna have a clear divide

on this episode. Thoughts on the plot, Amy? Let's

go Roxy and Jedha here. No, okay. So it's a good

plot. It's a great, great conflict, but it's

like, dang, Kimber, you need to have a smackdown.

I'm glad that she gets a good... Talk from synergy

on this one because she needed it man. She is

just like really I'm actually kind of surprised

that the rest of the holograms weren't like more

like hey You know some of these thoughts aren't

nice even if you think them in a brief second

Why would you write them down in your journal

and or or even better than that? Why would you

take the journal with you everywhere you went

so that just in case it falls out of your purse?

We can cause more problems here really I Would

have made Kimber cry, I'm sorry She needed a

good lesson. Yeah, you know real. Where are you

with me? Good lecture here that that's the only

reason why I want them on the show now is to

just give Kimber Right now because she needed

it Nicole thoughts on the plot I have a love

-hate relationship with this episode because

there's some blatantly stupid things, and that's

what's needed for the plot, but there's still

some really fun moments in it. So, yeah. Kimber's

like that. She's edging up towards my hatred

with Rio, and I don't want that. I want to like

the girl. I really do. But come on, girl. Look.

Oh, I loved her new look. Well, we'll talk about

that. Oh, and I before we move on to say more

roller rinks, please. Yeah. I loved the 80s and

roller skates. We need more of that. Yeah, I

grew up in a very small town, but that's one

thing we had was a roller rink and it was the

best place. I loved it. It brought back. We need

to bring back roller skates like seriously that

roller blades skates. roller skates yes yes everybody

needs to get a pair we need to you like start

doing uh you know those flash flash mobs with

roller skates just mash it together i can see

that being the next aa event oh geez i want to

see that too i want to see that aa that'd be

awesome oh my gosh you went That's what Nautica

needs to make her just more awesome. Oh, sweet!

She's got her wrench and her roller blades. Or

roller skates. Oh, wow. Wow, we're... The horror

we just unleashed on people. The slash that's

gonna come out of that. I know it. So much bad

fan fiction coming out of that right there. All

right, let's get to the hologram moments for

this one. for scandal uh... i wrote this down

i know it's incorrect but an australian bumblebee

awesome uh... i know we've mentioned that dan

gilvazan was sean and fitzgerald beck but i can

read i couldn't hear dan and sean earlier in

his earlier episodes but now i can really hear

dan gilvazan's voice coming out of him uh...

Even though she talks bad about her friends,

Kimber has some great insight to the Misfits

personalities. I will give this to Kimber. We've

all had our moments with our friends where we

collide. It sometimes doesn't work. You just

gotta express your feelings. You gotta remember

they didn't have social media back then, so you

gotta express it through your diary, I suppose.

Oh, I'm not against diaries. I just don't think

that. Yeah. You need to write all of that stuff

down like that. I don't think you should be carrying

it around like your wallet, but yeah. Yeah. They,

she needs my advice to Kimber is to leave the

diary at home where it belongs and keep it there.

Oh goodness. Yep. Oh, let's see. What else do

I have here? I like that she believes in Sean

and obviously disbelieves the misfits. Finally,

she's evolving a little bit. Just a little. And

then we get to her going to Synergy and the new

look and I'm like, oh my god, she might be the

best misfit ever if she ever switched sides.

I was going to say, I liked the flame hair. I

loved it. Orange rage hair is just like awesome.

was very very awesome uh and the last thing i

have here is uh pizzazz was put in her place

always love when that happens um what about you

amy what do you like about this i like the repurpose

of she makes an impression i know we i know we

we mentioned that but it completely worked for

me uh sand aid sand angels rock so raya good

for you introduction of something new that i've

never seen before sand angels I love Sean, that

Sean returns. I like the fact that while the

interviewers are talking to the missus, they're

like, are you just cruising for a vacancy charge?

I was like, awesome. Even the public are like,

hey, we know how these guys work. I like the

fact that Sean proposed to Kimber with a song,

but then she loses her diary. I sense drama as

soon as she lost the diarrhea. I was like, oh

crap, we know where this is gonna go. As much

as I'm not thrilled about what happens to Sean,

I have to say the guy from Cool Trash magazine

has mad editing skills. Yeah, he does. I like

that Kimber says she's gonna believe in Sean

over the trash that she's reading and all that

I was like, alright Finally, like I said, she's

she's evolving and she's learning something is

like, okay, we might actually see her grow up

a little bit here Because that is that was a

very mature thing to do I'm just gonna believe

in Sean even though you know, she's Set up two

dates at once with this guy Uh, yeah. And then

I also hope that this, this, that this teaches

her never to play games like this again, because

to be honest, yeah, need to not do this anymore,

Kimber. Uh, but I also liked the fact that when

she goes to synergy, she says, is this another

phase you're going through, Kimber? Synergy.

Okay. I've got a synergy moment too, because

I love this girl. They need more synergy in the

show. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. That is another hologram

moment that I got to bring up is we need more

synergy. I like the new, like you guys said,

I also like the new Kimber. And I like how they

eventually turn things around on the Harriet

Horne show. You know, so it all worked out. It

was a good, it was good episode. That's my, that's

my list. What about you Nicole? Um, let's see,

hologram moments that we haven't mentioned. Okay.

At the beginning when they're doing their first

music video. And they all go off with their significant

others. And Rhea's there at the end. And she

could either choose between the man or the dog.

She chose the dog. High five. High five, Rhea.

That dog was adorable. I really like that part.

That was so cute. Synergy, another synergy. She

has an invisible couch, which she's lying on.

I want one. Where can I get that? Where's my

money? I love synergy in this. I really do need

more of her. Sometimes I feel like she's just

not utilized enough. She's like, if you think

about it, but if it wasn't for her, it really

wouldn't be a show. Yeah, true. Yeah. Yeah. Kimber's

look. Awesome. Really liked really liked it.

That'd be awesome to see Jim and the holograms

go metal. And then my last thing is at the end.

when they're on the talk show. And Sean goes

walking over to Kimber. He's like, uh, can I

sit here princess? He calls her princess, which

is a flashback to season one. Oh, that's good.

See what you did there. Yeah, I like that. So

those are my, my hologram moments. All right.

We're going to head to the misfit moments after

this. It is time for the Misfit Moments. The

only thing I wrote down for this one is I do

not like Scandal. I do not like that song. I

don't know. It just kind of grated on me a little

too much. They have all the jingles. All of the

Misfit songs have the best jingles. I mean, not

all of them because there's a one or two that

are like, eh, I didn't, eh, eh. Yeah, we don't

like Misfits in Hawaii, but it has a good jingle

to it. No, what's great about Misfits in Hawaii

is it's such a satire -y, laughable song that

it just works because of that, but yeah. What

about you, Amy, for Misfits? I have a few. It

was a bad move. I mean, it's a bad, it's a good

move, but you know, for a misfit moment, it was

a good thing to use, but bad move to use someone's

diary like that. But you know, again, I'm going

to Kimber really needs to write every little

thing down. Oh, she should know better, but then

again, it's still a little sister Kimber. So

yeah. Uh, the disguises aren't that disguisey

when they go in to talk to the guy from cool

trash. I was like, I was like, how can you not,

have you been under a rock? If these guys are

as popular as that they were in the first two

episodes where they can get so many people that

want to go to be a part of their group. I mean,

we referenced Madonna when Madonna's, you know,

how her, her. Concert sold out within 24 hours.

Okay, so if they're the equivalent of that who

would not recognize Madonna, right? Who would

not recognize these guys if they were right there

in front of you? I mean, was he just not paying

attention? I don't know. That was what I mean.

I actually have it here. It's a gossip magazine.

It's kind of like TMZ Yeah, every single celebrity

they they know they're stalking him. How can

he doesn't okay? First of all, he recognizes

Kimber. How is he? He doesn't recognize the Well,

at least like Shayna and Aja, come on, they have

their hair pulled up. Yeah. Well, here's the

thing, though. Synergy only disguised everybody

else except Kimber, because she went in as herself.

I know, but they still look the same. I mean,

still, if you see one person that's already on

your mind, then you'd be start connecting the

dots. Wait a minute. The rest of you guys kind

of look familiar. You know, anyhow, it just it

was just like. Yeah, put on glasses and we're

going to pull a Clark Kent. Yeah, that was on

mine too. Yeah. Uh, I find it silly that the

diary is the only way Kimber keeps her appointments.

Really? She has to read it to go, Sean, I have

a date with Sean today. It's like, really? Come

on. I have that too. It's just like, she needs

like, I remember they used to have, she's a trapper

keeper. What do you think? Do you really like

Sean or not? Because I don't know if I was that

into a guy, I would not forget about a date like

that. And I wouldn't be like, oh crap, I'm going

to read my journal real quick and find out. I've

got a date with him right now. Jeez. It's like,

oh man. They used to have planners back in the

day. Yeah, but the planners were huge. This is

like a small book I just think it was really

hilarious that like what she what did she do

flip to the last page? She's not lippy. She's

not flipping to make sure all the pages are there,

right? I mean you flip through it and you don't

see that things are missing I mean there would

be pages torn out of this thing cuz that that's

that's in there as well, but She flips to the

last page and then suddenly. Oh, I have a date

with Sean. I totally forgot. It's like Yeah,

she's done to Sean. Oh my god. If you're into

a guy, that's all you think about. Yeah. Even

if even if he broke your heart and you were hearing

rumors of him, you're like, well, she's already

like, oh, I'm just gonna believe in him. Oh,

guess what? Now, I also have a date with him.

I was like, oh my gosh. Did you have your secretary

write that down? Oh, hilarious. That that's me

though. That's all I've got. What about you Nicole?

Had those those as well Let's see. What do I

have? Oh The only thing that I could say that

Amy hasn't Talked on the Misfits really do not

know how to dress for the beach. They had long

overcoats They were there in disguise The misfits

of the female trench coat mafia of the 80s All

power and honor of Grayskull, we all have the

power. All right, we are back now how we've been

doing this here on Showtime synergy is that we

rate multi -parters as one story So Amy, what

are you going to give the talent search overall?

I am going to give it a 4 .5. I think this opening

was so strong. It's probably the best For me,

I've kind of gone back up and trying to keep

track of what I've been rating things. I think

this is the highest I've ever rated anything

is a 4 .5. It was excellent. I thought that it

was a great opening. And season two is off to

a smashing start. And I even like the outfits,

all of the outfits, like it's all of the designers

that are designing the outfits for everybody

on both sides of both the bands. They're really

hip and they're very eighties. And I really like

it. So it's working for me. What about you, Nicole?

I'm with Amy. This two -parter was awesome, and

I'm gonna rate the two -parter as one. At 4 .5,

there's just a couple things, like Jerika just

transforming in the middle of public, that's

still... She said no better. Yeah, that, yeah.

It's like the one, and I realize that's one of

the parts that they needed for the show, but

still. And Shayna's a little bit overreacting.

Little much, but it was almost perfect, but I'd

give it a four point five I'm gonna give it a

four I The only reason why I take a point off

is because of the transformation in public I

do like though that when Raya found out she kept

the secret and she actively tried to help Jerrica

Or gem not to change back into Jerrica. Like

I did like that overall Well, what about Scandal,

Amy? Um, I liked it too. I mean, even though

like it was like the whole diary thing and stuff

like that, it was a very good conflict and it

had a really good payoff in the end. And I, I,

I'd like to think at this point now that Kimber

has learned her lesson and that we will. I'm

saying this naively off obviously because I can't

remember every little detail of every little

episode after this, but I'd like to believe that.

You know, she's learned at least a little bit

and maybe she will say less annoying things in

her diary or at least keep it at home. Um, uh,

yeah, I've been rated a four. All right, Nicole.

My gosh. It's the same thing. It's a four. Amy

and I are on the system. Wait, let me go. I hadn't

read your brain. You're reading my brain. Oh,

like I said, the whole, uh, just carrying your

diary everywhere. It, it, I just bad idea. Yeah,

I just don't believe that would happen, but I'm

pretty sure there's someone out there that does

it but again, you know was the reason for Makes

sense. Maybe it makes sense because when I was

watching the show at the time, you know I was

in grade school and you know a couple of people

did bring their diaries to school and something

like this happened So it was like, oh it makes

sense for the age group. But yeah, seriously

kids Take the advice from me leave the diary

at home. Just leave it at home. It's not worth

the drama Apparently the three of us have this

weird Jedi mind -meld trick going on because

I am also going to rate this one a four for scandal

Really good it just a really strong Episodes

and so that's what we're really catching on the

vibe of how awesome they are. So Absolutely.

The only reason why I even take a point off is

because I did not like that song I love a scandal.
