About this Episode
You're tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered
Geek. Hello and welcome to Altered Geek. I'm
your host, Steve Megatron. Phillips joining me
this week is... Dave, Jim, and Mike. And as I
say this, this is two weeks in a row that I've
gone without a Tuesday episode. I'm all over
the place, people. Yeah. Mike's taking the reins
while I'm taking downtime right now. Between
me and the Geek Responsibly crew, it's all purple
all the time at the GeekCast Radio Network. But
anyways, I've been prepping graphics for Optimus
Solo for a GCN Wars tournament. Which is going
to be interesting. Yes, that's going to be the
GCR wars tournament for tag teams for wrestling
Mm -hmm, and I've been putting together basically
in essence like baseball cards mm -hmm with stats
and everything else and customizing them per
Per group and so it's been a lot of fun kind
of messing with that Thankfully he gathered all
the information and all I had to do was make
it fit exactly so so yeah I've been doing that
and aside from applying for jobs and not getting
calls I've been I was recently given a large
Star Wars collection very cool and it encompasses
a lot of the stuff from the 90s and early 2000s
a lot of the Dark Horse comics a lot of the Forget
what the name of the company was but they do
the the collectible card game back in the late
90s I know what you're talking about. I have
like all of the cards Literally all of them and
I have a ton of the comics so I even have Dark
Empire Wow That was one of my favorite runs of
it. So like I'll be able to read some of these
comics before I sell them But I've been selling
some of the figures and some of the ships and
I started off with like the 12 inch line Mm -hmm,
and so far I've sold in there sold the the episode
one electronic Naboo royal starship and the episode
one like Anakin and Padme and then the IG 88
bounty hunter robot so Yeah, so this these are
gonna help me pay my bills after I Get a lot
of this stuff So I'm gonna I'm gonna list a lot
more. I got a lot of the the short figures as
well, but That's part of what I've been doing
lately. Yes aside from you know, Mware 200 mm
-hmm. Yeah, we'll talk about that in a minute.
You mentioned Star Wars and stuff and I now have
four Star Wars Funko pops I've got Chewie and
Han from the solo Versions that they're putting
out solo Star Wars story, so I got that I've
got old Luke from from last Jedi, which is basically
just him a cane and a white grayish white beard
as of this recording tonight I went into GameStop
and I found Young Luke with a lightsaber as a
funko pop at GameStop And his number is 266 So
there's that You know, you mentioned it we recorded
episode 200 of M wire The podcast has been going
on for nine years it started a month and ten
days after the network launched it started July
11th 2009 I've told this part of the story before
and you just grown at it the only reason why
it was July 11th other than being 7 -eleven and
Making really really bad slurpee jokes is because
at the time 7 -eleven 2009 was the next official
release date for Whatever Apple iPhone product
they were put I think it was like the iPhone
2g or 3g or something or other that year But
yeah, I've spent Again as of this recording all
day long editing Episode 200 of M wire where
you and I basically reminisce on the show What
we liked we did top ten episodes produced recorded
whatever guest hosts all that stuff Comes just
under two hour recording Because I also went
back to about six different episodes of the show
and I put in various clips from it. Like, I actually
put in the entirety of M .Y .R. Episode Zero,
which is basically just four and a half minutes
of us saying what the show was going to be about
back then in 2009. And oh my God, have we improved
over almost 10 years. Listening to some of that
audio is just groan inducing. Episode one was
you me and Steve snowball sailor from this week
in geek reviewing back to the future and Then
episode 18 .5 was me and Steve reviewing who
frame Roger rabbit in the who frame Roger rabbit
episode My audio sounds such like crap and Steve's
sounds so professional unlike What the hell was
I using in 2009? Because I'm pretty sure, I'm
pretty sure I was still using that fucking headset.
Because, sorry, because I don't think, I don't
remember getting my microphone and headphones
until 2010. And man, it's, it's crazy. The one
episode I put in that has Optimus Solo, I should
have picked a better one, but we both love the
movie Can't Hardly Wait, which is 20 years old
this year. That was back when Optimus Solo was
boss K -Dog, and he didn't have internet at the
time. So he felt like a call -in celebrity that
we actually had to, I had to call him on his
cell phone. And we all know back then. cell phone
podcast recordings were never that great. Well,
they're still not awesome. No, but it's better.
You can get Skype on your phone and it's OK.
It's whatever now. I mean, yeah, so. But just.
All day long, sitting through and editing through
and going through and putting whatever clips
I want in all. Damn, I forgot to put the self
-destruct thing at the end. Anyway, one of our
interviews from a couple years ago, I think it
was 2015, Joe Kramer, he was the composer on
Mission Impossible 5, Rogue Nation. I got him
to do some promos for us. One of them is, your
mission should you choose to accept it is to
listen to this podcast from the GeekCast Radio
Network. The other one is, this podcast from
the GeekCast Radio Network will self -destruct
in five seconds. So those are great bumpers for
beginning and ending of any of our shows, I think.
And I forgot to put it into MYR 200. I'm not
going back and editing that in now. I spent all
day working on this thing. But now that it's
out and now that the show is technically over,
I do still have three episodes that I want to
do with Optimus Solo. I've actually thought of
an episode that we can do later at some point.
uh... i get it but it's five yeah you still got
to do that uh... that's all you buddy that's
the good just because you know that kind of goes
with the theme of just doing it late but it would
never better late than never and you can actually
release it as a regular it was like you don't
have to back date back into where pirates for
was or whatever you can never get back to you
Anyways was like it comes out when it shows up
exactly like it could be episode 201 or 203 or
whatever it doesn't really matter but Going back
through all this stuff. I'm like damn. I kind
of want to start talking movies again. We're
not ending this show It just it just kind of
hit me cuz As I said, as of this recording, July
11th, this is the nine -year anniversary date
of MWIRE, and I published it, and I'm like, okay,
well, that's it, show's over. I'm like, damn,
I kinda wanna do more now. But I have no, oh
god, I don't have time, honestly. I really don't.
Yeah, that's the difference of life changing
on you. Right, but. Like yes, you're right. Absolutely
in not in nine years since we've since we started
that I've gotten married I've moved from Louisville
where I was living Louisville, Kentucky where
I was living for 25 years. I moved from there
to Chicago now in the Chicago suburbs Just some
of the things that were going on back then when
I was You're gonna have you're gonna end up having
an altered geek reactionary episode yourself
at some point because Sure, some of this stuff
is like, oh wow, that's that's what that happened
there Oh, wow, that's what oh wow. We were talking
about that. Like you were still at the dealership
and at the pizza place Well, yeah, I remember
I know you remember but I'm just saying I did
I mean I knew you were still there But like I
didn't remember us talking about it that much
on on M wire And just yeah, it's like almost
ten years of our lives to one podcast Okay, nine
years, but one podcast for nine years And all
the stuff we got to cover all the things we got
to talk about on the show Damn, it's The end
of an era. Yeah, that era. Well, I don't know.
I don't know. But yeah, like I kind of get it
too because like I had this goal to hit episode
300 by the anniversary date of the show. I don't
think I'm gonna hit that target. That's okay.
Just a lot of crap came up and so I've had like
two... Defer doing my Tuesday episodes lately
and I Just don't have the time. Yeah, I think
once once life gets back to normal in the fall
I think that I'll have a lot of it coming out
again, but I think that it's I mean I know that
I'll be well over 300 by the time the year ends.
Oh, yeah but Yeah, it's it's crazy when you think
about it Especially when you go back to 2013
Five years ago I Started the podcast version
in August hmm I Started the actual name six years
ago, but right as a video show and then I just
kind of foobarred it It'll eventually come back
as that I just I again like I Was planning I
was like so close to like getting a green screen
built Mm -hmm, or at least buying one that I
could mount to the back of my computer chair,
right? And then all this crap happened. So, yeah,
that was one of the things in the back burner.
The other thing is I'm not sure when the new
site is going to launch because, again, trying
to find income. So, I mean, I'm still dealing
with one particular issue on the new site. But
everything else is pretty much there. I'm also
working on a side venture of a website, the SCP
-21 studios, to where I can do freelance work
and people can order directly from the site.
That's a project I'm undertaking as well to try
and make a little income off of it. As far as
the podcast stuff, it's just... It's crazy the
amount of content we put out, even when we did
that anniversary episode on Geekcast Radio. Yep.
And looking at the transformation from the original
shows to now. Oh yeah. Some of the shows have
had their moments where they've had ups and downs.
This is one of them. This show, I mean. Not this
episode. Right, right. Although some could infer
that. But... It's kind of been this weird transformational
thing because like even going back and looking
at You know like the the old old days of this
show and just seeing how like the art changed
seeing how the The logo change because it was
altered key come plugged with like super different.
Yep font and Just the That and we were doing
like hour and a half episodes like every shot.
And now I'm like, hey, I'll do like a 30 minute
one here, 20 minute one here, like a 40 minute
one here, just depending on how long the topic
goes. Yeah. And even like the editing has changed,
everything from posting, it's changed. I got
notification today that finally Spotify has got
around to deciding to add more podcasts because
they have to manually vet all of the shows. It's
not like every other resource where you just
submit it and it goes in within a couple days.
So all of our library, at least the stuff that's
current, and that's the thing too, like the old
stuff won't be on like your iHeartRadio or Spotify
because they want shows that have at least five
episodes and have been released within the last
two weeks. Okay episode in the last two weeks
So if it's a show that hasn't had that then it
wouldn't be on there But I got like a massive
dump of emails today saying like all your shows
blah blah blah blah are gonna be on Spotify soon
Make sure you search it out, and I was like awesome.
That's awesome Yeah, I'll tell you one thing
about the back end I'm only doing I was only
doing this to make sure it worked on the site
but I've gone through the original first 20 or
so episodes of The Pull Bag from 2013 to get
the links working on the site to have the episodes
play. I had so many windows open it froze up
my computer. I did that with M -Wire trying to
get all the episodes re -uploaded onto Blog Talk
before I imported them to Spreaker. To Spreaker,
yeah. And there was like, I would say about 60
% of the shows didn't upload. And luckily I had
my external hard drive plugged in and I was like,
well, here we go. And I ended up, the funny thing
was, I did get it all working on Blog Talk fine.
The thing was, it didn't correct the issue on
the website. So what I did was, On Spreaker,
I imported from geekcastradio .com and pulled
the post in that way. And I re -uploaded all
the files to the server, to their exact location
that they would have been on the old site, and
re -imported them to Spreaker and it imported
all of the episodes and all of the actual MP3s.
And then I took the Spreaker and imported that
into the new site. So it's a lot of like... back
and forth and learning and so what you're telling
me is is I don't have to be doing all this stuff
anymore now well some of it for the old well
okay well again I was for the old shows like
if you I don't know if you did it on the old
site or the I did it on the old site I didn't
do it on the new one I'm strictly using the old
site until the new site launches okay well you
may run into an issue on the new site then but
great But I'm using the Spreaker download links,
like how we have the media verified and all that.
So, it's not like I'm using old linking for the
files, so I don't think I should have a problem
on the new site. Well, the new site's not...
When I imported, I've already imported all the
old content. Oh. So, like anything that's...
It's only going to take new stuff. Okay, this
has turned into a nightmare. So you're going
to have a lot of editing to do on the new site.
Unless I were to massively dump it and then re
-import from Spreaker selectively and then you
would lose every comment. The joys of running
a site. Yeah, not that I have a lot of comments
on my stuff anyway, but that's beside the point.
The main purpose of me going back and getting
all these correct links for Spreaker for the
current website was so that when I eventually
share like reshare a post like I'm in the middle
of Resharing because we're in the month of July.
Well hashtag Christmas in July So I'm resharing
on my on the tooncast all tunes all the time
page on Facebook The 25 days to cast beyond Christmas
we did two years ago well all of those episodes
are linked to the audio is linked to what the
server used to have so I went into Spreaker and
I grabbed each link and I put it in all 25 posts
for for the the current site so that way when
people click on it on Facebook they can actually
listen to the damn thing on the website see folks
Podcasting is hard. You can't just pick up a
microphone, record yourself, edit yourself, and
put it online. You've been doing this for 10
years at this point or more. 11. OK. I'm at 9
and 1 half or whatever. No. I'm at 10 years.
It's 9 for the network. But as of this December,
I will be 10 years of doing this. And it's a
lot of work. And it's not just because I do multiple
shows. or in this case sometimes 20 shows at
a time or whatever but it's a lot of hard work
folks and we do this for quote -unquote a hobby
quote -unquote for free well not really quote
-unquote for free we do do this for free because
we're not getting any money out of this uh not
yet anyway um but yeah uh 10 years i'm old boy
Yeah, you are old so yes, I am I'm getting there
You'll never get you'll never catch me My son
asked me today he's like How old are you and
then I says 32 and he says How old will you be
when you're 34? I says 34 And so he goes he goes
how will I be and I says you'll be 7 He goes
oh And like just like he had to stop and contemplate
it and then he's like, how old is my brother
gonna be and I'm like five and he says Will you
be old then and I says no He asked if our parents
were If cars were around when our parents were
around. Oh my god. I was like your funny kid
That's why I take great joy in opening up these
books that come up with the turn dial or the
corded telephones and the old school radios and
old school televisions with the flip knob because
I had one of those growing up. Oh yeah, me too.
The only way you could get any channel over 12
was you had to have a VCR hooked up and it was
funny. Have fun doing that to my kid like showing
him old technology and then he's like, what's
this? What's this? What does this do? Mm -hmm.
And then like I get to explain it like cassette
decks Kid had no clue what they were He's he's
like he he knows CD Yeah, he doesn't really know
if he knows DVD. He doesn't really know blu -ray
or um mp3 or flash drive or any of that but he
like he has the cd and dvd thing down and uh
like he's now he's like wanting to experiment
with our like our cameras he's like i want to
take the picture he's like i can do it and then
we're like okay so he tried taking a picture
of my wife and i earlier and he got the picture
of the floor and we were like good job like just
you know He's like I took a picture and we're
like, yeah good job, buddy Mm -hmm need to aim
a little higher, but you know, oh, yeah But yes,
it's it's funny how technology changes Yeah,
it is but yeah, like as far as the podcast stuff's
concerned like I I've gotten to this point now
where I like to automate as much as possible.
Oh, yeah I like to look for topics that interest
me. I mean, I've always done that. It's just
I've kind of gone to the severe end of it where
I just, I really don't look up anything unless
I really want to talk about it. Like I'll bookmark
all kinds of crap and save it for later and then
I go looking through and I'm like, yeah, I really
don't feel like talking about that anymore. And
it happens more often than not, which is why
I just don't, I don't have a lot of conversation
on some of this stuff. I've been constantly honing
my podcasting skills because I know that this
is not where it should be yet, but I'm working
on it as far as how to make a really good podcast.
tried this sooner. The information is so much
out there now that it's easier to ... Yeah, it's
easier to access it. It's easier to learn from
it. It's not just a niche thing where it's like
... Like I've said before in our history, quote
unquote, I thought podcasts were just for celebrities.
I thought it was just a celebrity Hollywood thing.
I didn't realize it could just be ... two regular
idiots talking about something because you know
you see stuff like Smodcast or whatever Chris
Hardwick and yada yada yada and like oh Okay,
well, it's a celebrity thing. That's your first
impression, and then you realize you know you
go find certain ones or find ones that are Interesting
to you to listen to and you realize hey these
are just two guys in a basement or two guys over
Skype or whatever So it kind of takes it to that
natural point of what are some shows that you
would like to kind of or concepts or subject
matter that you'd like to tackle or that you've
enjoyed listening to but haven't tackled yet
or just that you enjoy as a listener more than
wanting to podcast about it? See, that's funny.
I want to podcast about it more than I want to
listen to people about it. Like I, I specifically
said, um, I don't think I can, I don't think
I can reveal this on air, but the wrestling stuff
that GCR and has planned later this year has
the network's going to get a hell of a lot more
legitimacy with what's coming with our top 100
wrestler countdown because of stuff that I have
not been able to tell you yet. Um, but, um, I
don't. Listen to stuff. I'm producing stuff.
I'm watching stuff. I'm reading comics like right
now in the past three weeks, I've recorded 311
through 315 of the pull bag to have them out
and done by this month because next month is
autobotly august 317 to 323 and that's a crossover
with all things transformers with the pull bag
because it's transformers comics but like I would
rather talk about it than hear others' opinions
about it. I know that's bad. I often feel really
bad when I say, hey, go listen to my podcast.
But whomever I say that to, I don't listen to
a damn thing they do. Take our good buddy, DJ
Valentine, from Simplistic Reviews. I think I've
listened to a total of seven things that they've
done on their show. I've listened to a few, and
I think I've listened to about as many, but it's
not that I didn't want to. Right, it's the time
issue. Yep, exactly. And for me, and this may
have been when I started kind of struggling with
some of my podcasting and kind of just flying
off seat of my pants, because I know that I'm
not. always putting out the best quality product,
but I'm just doing it because I enjoy to do it.
And that's about it. But about, I want to say
about four years ago, before I got the management
position at the car lot, when I was physically
washing cars and doing all the runs with the
vehicles, I had an MP3 player in my ear 24 seven,
like at work, like on my way to work, like everything.
And I had so many podcasts backlogged on there.
Like I listened to a lot of your shows. I listened
to a lot of our syndicated shows that we had
at the time. I listened to a lot of other shows
that I enjoyed in general, like, you know, uh,
twit .tv related technology, uh, podcasts and,
uh, or just various interviews like Rob Paulson
stuff and everything else. So I, when I transitioned
to that management role, I couldn't have it in
my ear anymore. Because I actually had to talk
to people and it was kind of rude to have it
You know being a manager of something and you're
sitting here ignoring everyone So I didn't listen
to podcasts anymore at work and I really didn't
have time at home and then When I started working
at the media company, I worked at previously
I had to listen to their content all day And
by the end of the day, I didn't want to listen
to anybody's crap. It was not calling people's
shows crap, I'm just saying I just didn't want
to listen to anything. And if I did, I wanted
to watch a television show and have it on my
other screen and then kind of dual task and have
stuff going on on the main screen. Even when
I play games, I do it that way. I'll watch something
on one screen and then the other screen, I have
my game. It's not often I do that anymore, but
and I've been trying to listen to some podcasts
like recently the most recent stuff I've listened
to is some of the stuff that DJs put together
where I've been a featured voice for example
Here or there in those and then I'll listen to
most of those episodes and then I'm trying to
listen to a couple of various shows that have
interest me on the GCR and that I just hadn't
gotten to And then I've listened to the geek
responsibly show like all the episodes up to
this point except for like I think episode six
or seven so like it's It's been one of those
like I'm trying to get my feet back in there
and plus with being unemployed like I Don't have
time for it only because I'm busy around the
house busy applying busy like we're doing errands
We're doing like this and that and so I know
when I end up getting a new job And I say when
because I know that it's going to be a position
I'm gonna have to drive to and I know that it's
not gonna be close to home I know that it's gonna
be within in like an hour of a drive of where
I live So I will have plenty of time to listen
to podcasts once again on my drive time So, you
know it about ten episodes a week if you consider
the hour one way an hour the other way, right?
five days a week. So yeah, I mean, it's I'm kind
of looking forward to doing that again to some
extent, but not the drive itself. I wish I had
more time to sit there and mess with it. But
but yeah, like I tried doing a technology show.
It kind of fizzled out because I just I didn't
have enough meat there to really do it the way
I wanted to do it. And so I kind of just was
like, I believe that in the backward for a while.
See, that's the thing like If I don't have initial,
this is a thing I mentioned in MWIRE 200. Within
the first month of us planning that podcast,
I had that podcast, whether we got to it or not,
I had it scheduled out until 2019 or 2020. Like,
if it's something that I can sit down and spend
four and a half, five and a half, six and a half
hours crafting the next five, okay. Another perfect
example is Podcaster Meets World, which I still
need to edit episode three and we need to record
other episodes of that, but that's beside the
point. When we had that idea to do that as a
separate podcast because it only got to number
50 on the top 100 television shows countdown
here at JCRN. I spent four and a half hours planning
out what I thought at the time was going to be
the next five and a half years of our lives if
we had done it the way I initially wanted to
do it, which was episode by episode. And I know
your attention span is not going to last five
and a half years. So I whittled it down to we
do season by season, we break up the Boy Meets
World seasons into two parts, and we're gonna
have a 20 -episode limited series run on that
show. But basically, when I originally planned
that, I was super interested, I was super excited
for us to do it. I had the DVD set at the time
and everything else. DVD set's somewhere in some
box in the basement or something at this point,
I don't know. and all of that, you know, that
is something that I would want to do. If it's
something where I'm putting in the advanced prep
time in order to get it done, however long it
takes to get it done, then that is something
that I would put my time into. Can't just go
like I can come on here and we can you know,
you know five ten minutes before you can say,
okay We're gonna talk about this this and this
and this and this I'm like, okay sure fine I
can do that because this is a weekly topical
show kind of slash news show kind of a thing
but like for an actual podcast idea for a show
I can't just do Half -assed willy -nilly kind
of stuff and I think that that's kind of a strength
of yours Whereas like some of the rest of us
kind of are like, I'm bored And I'm guilty of
it from time to time and I know that it comes
across that way from time to time What I would
really like is is listener feedback letting me
know what they want Exactly. We ask all the time
and they never do anything. They don't do their
job we're giving them free content and we're
giving them interesting conversation and all
of this and all of that and i understand people
are busy and yada yada yada but like you just
said with your drive time before you got your
you know your work at home gig it's like um i'm
listening to all this stuff and i will you know
comment on it if i have something to say kind
of a thing and i understand if no one has something
to say but still if you've been listening to
a show for x number of whatever You should be
able to, and you should want to interact with
the show. It's so funny. We have a Pogs super
fan. She has listened to every episode of Pogs
at this point almost twice through. I haven't
listened to any, I'm sorry. I know, it's fine.
I don't care. It's not the point. The point is,
is that she, you know, she's like, oh, she sent
us an 11 minute voicemail over... over email
or whatever. And in the voicemail she says something
about she listens to the episodes, she goes back
and listens to our episodes multiple times and
yada yada yada. And it's amazing that somebody
would actually take the time to do that, to listen
to us talk about he -man of all things. But what's
so funny about it is, is that she says in there,
You guys are doing all this content. You're giving
us all this insight to these cartoons. The least
I could do is write an iTunes review or send
in a voicemail or whatever kind of a thing. Which
I enjoy. Going back, I was looking at some of
the early Altered Geek episodes. I'm not calling
anybody out. That's not what I'm trying to do
here in any means. I was looking at old episodes,
and this show used to get anywhere from 20 to
30 comments per episode, which gets a couple
here or there, whether it's Facebook or on the
website, primarily Facebook. Yeah, it's just
it's mind -boggling the difference, but I think
it's also the topic Yeah of the time that garners
it Because like even going back like episode
5 of alter geek geek snacks There's like 40 some
on comments on there So like it's it's it's interesting
to see I mean, granted, that wasn't just geek
snacks, it was stuff about, you know, the initial
news of Batflak. Because the first show started
with a suggestion from a listener of saying,
hey, did you know they're casting a new Batman?
And we were like, really? And it was like 15
minutes before the episode started, so we're
like, hey, we've got our topic. I've got a list
of different things that I'm doing as far as
topic ideas, but I'm also trying to do current
things that people are interested in that are
in the trending and in the news, because then
it actually means something, and it's kind of
current. Get more in in with the Episodes themselves
like get more involved get more listening interaction
get more In general like I'm just kind of Wanting
that that conversation that it seems like we're
lacking at certain times, right? But yeah, so
and then as far as shows that I really enjoy
Listening to geek responsibly, honestly brings
back memories of the early GCRN. Sweet, that's
awesome. Because it was like totally unfiltered,
calling BS on certain situations and you know,
kind of messing around with the scenarios of
stuff going on in geek news and geek culture
and it's kind of funny listening to it because
I'm like, they fit perfectly. Exactly because
we are exactly the same mentality on a lot of
it very fired up and It's it's great. So Yeah,
I mean I kind of missed some of those old like
fired up days but at the same time like I'm I'm
like I'm a different person now, so it doesn't
really Resonate the same way. I enjoyed listening
to it still but it doesn't Right. You know, it's
not like the early days of All Things Transformers.
Yeah. Bernie Mac died, so yeah, um, and then
moving on. Oh my, okay, so I know this isn't
All Things Transformers, but um, have you seen
the trailers to Bumblebee? Yeah, it's awesome.
And they used Bernie Mac in it. I'm like, oh
my god, it's been 10 years since he died, or
11 years since he died, or whatever. But the
funny thing is, the Bumblebee movie actually
looks good. Yeah. They don't have so much Robo
Kibble. Yes, they kept some of the holdovers
of Michael Bay, and it's a soft reboot in the
80s, and they have Starscream and Bumblebee in
it, but they actually resemble an actual G1 Transformer.
They don't look like Robo Kibble messes, and
that's what I think I like about it. Plus, it
looks like there's an actual story there, and
so it's that much more enticing to me. This is
a totally different topic. Obviously, yes. Well,
not even the Transformer aspect, but the fact
that fans throw torrential temper tantrums over
movies. I have my gripes, but there's a level
of gripe that's just... annoying and it kind
of boils down to the fact that people attack
these movies these directors these writers these
organizations because they have headcanon which
Mike Powers was so on point to mention yes when
something doesn't line up with the headcanon
then you just kind of lose it I was having fun
reading some stuff between Movie Revolt Dan and
DJ and some other people on social media today.
They ended up talking to this John Golson guy.
He's a writer for Movies .com, Fandango, etc.
But he started posting things about movies. Basically
calling the the criticisms of the movies like
just purposely in ingest Like Indiana Jones doesn't
do anything Like literally the movie goes on
without him and it happens the exact same way
It's just it was a big extra long expedition
for the guy to do absolutely nothing in the end
because they got what was coming to them and
and then he says like Star Wars sucks because
the Luke I know would have stopped everything
and killed Darth Vader immediately for what he
did to Obi -Wan and then he goes He goes a step
further and he's like Empire Strikes Back sucks
because it is out of character for Han Solo to
not throw as many Imperials directly into the
carbonite machine as he could And then he says
Return of the Jedi sucks because Palpatine could
have sensed Lando's assault and force choked
him to death before even getting close to the
second Death Star Mm -hmm, and so like it's just
I don't know it's it's it's funny to read stuff
like that. So like you know That's even with
the you know Star Wars stuff or like Incredibles
or any of these movies that people are Throwing
a hissy fit about I did see Ant -Man and the
Wasp which was actually pretty good I haven't
seen that yet, but we did go hilarious. I'm sure
it is I haven't even seen the first Ant -Man
yet I need to catch it on Netflix. That's the
thing like you know Paul Rudd is like the selling
point for that because you have Michael Douglas
yeah just being his kind of Michael Douglas self
yeah and and then you get Paul Rudd being Paul
Rudd and like he's he's just throwing in the
comedy and so it's just very entertaining to
watch absolutely Karen and I did go see Incredibles
2 in the theater and that movie oh my god like
What 14 year wait like seriously it felt like
It felt like it was 2006 or something like it
felt like 14 years has not passed since the first
film came out I Just absolutely loved the story
that they told I that movie is like breaking
so many records like it's They didn't do the
superhero landing Okay. Well, it was something
that the guy that was the head of Pixar didn't
want to do. He's like, we will not do the superhero
landing. Yeah. But no, that movie was pretty
good. I was kind of surprised on some of the
direction it took, but at the same time, I saw
the villain coming from a mile away, which could
just be the fact that I'm older and it's not...
It's difficult to detect. I mean, I even watched
Reboot the Guardian Code. Oh, God, here we go.
More Reboot stuff. Tim, turn the show off! Um,
but, no, I'm not going into spoilers. I know,
I know, I know. But I saw the villain and the
revelation of the villain coming a mile away.
Like, from the very beginning. If it's not Megabyte,
screw it. Well, Megabyte's in it. Megabyte's
in it, but it's not the real Megabyte, because
Tony's dead. Well, funny enough, the only two
characters that are true to form... the show
like writing wise is hexadecimal and megabyte
and the actor that replaced Tony J does actually
a pretty passable job and the the writing and
the persona of both of those characters are About
the only saving grace of the show But the sorcerer
I saw his revelation in his backstory a mile
away from like the very beginning the very first
episode really so and really after that I saw
a lot of it coming and it kind of it comes to
full circle by the end of the series even though
they left it open for a season like another season
I don't know if it's going to go that direction
but like I said it's I find that a lot of these
these writing points have gotten to be too predictable
Whereas like I think that's why the last Jedi
was such a huge colossal like slap in the face
as far as like Star Wars fans are concerned Because
watching that if you didn't catch the the moment
of Luke tossing the lightsaber As like basically
like everything you know about this is wrong
like you know your your version of Canon You
know we're throwing this out the back window
like Luke did the lightsaber at the very beginning.
It's That's pretty much how the rest of the film
was so like everything you thought was gonna
happen didn't and so It was totally unpredictable
and that was what made that that episode that
all the more controversial is because You couldn't
guess in it There was no way to really know what
was going on at any given point until it revealed
itself and I think that Say what you will about
the story whether you liked it or hated it And
I did find certain parts of the plot but you
know questionable, but The the fact that his
writing was so on point that you couldn't figure
out the story Right means that He propelled it
to somewhere else that it would not have gone
otherwise. Otherwise, it would have just been
basically a retread of something else. So like
that's and I think that's kind of the weakness
of a lot of modern shows is that they there's
really no new ground to cover. So they just rehash
and it's and they make it like the most simplistic
cliched. villains or revelations in the story
that otherwise would have been better if they'd
done a different direction. Very true. I don't
know. We always say, and we've said this for
years, stop rebooting, stop doing this, stop
doing that. I, like I said on the last Altergeek
I was on, and like I said wherever else it was
that I said this, I enjoyed The Last Jedi. Like,
I was underwhelmed with The Force Awakens. The
Force Awakens is a good Star Wars movie, but
it's not the best Star Wars movie. Last Jedi
was, because of events of real life, it was obviously
Leia's last film or whatever, and... Thought
they wrapped up Whatever story that they're telling
with the older cast fine. I thought that the
movie was interesting I saw a story recently
the I think the other day Billy Dee is coming
back for episode 9. Yep, so Yep, and then they've
got Joaquin Phoenix playing the Joker and the
origin movie which I think's actually If it's
a choice between Leto and Phoenix, I think Phoenix
will be a better Joker. Oh, yeah Because he's
kind of halfway to crazy anyway, so I mean not
that Leto isn't but Leto's is so far in the Garbage
can for me that I just I can't see past The the
ways they made his character. It just it strikes
me bad like I'm more in favor of the Joaquin
Phoenix version at this point. There you go.
So. And who knows? I mean, I haven't even seen
Justice League yet. I have zero interest to see
it right now. I'm waiting for the Snyder cut
because apparently there's one in the works and
Snyder's planning on doing it himself despite
Warner Brothers. Yeah, who knows? He's been revealing.
footage and images from the origin from his cut
for some time now and he's funding it himself
so I think that that's actually gonna be kind
of funny when that does come out because I think
I think it'll be just like that Superman 2 the
two different versions yeah yeah the Donner cut
yeah and so I think you're gonna have you know
the Warner Brothers and then you're gonna have
the Snyder cut And then the Snyder cut is going
to be the default one that everybody likes. Because
the other cut was terrible. See, the crazy thing
is, I'm one of those people that I actually prefer
the Lester cut of Superman 2. I don't like the
Donner cut of Superman 2. But anyway, that's
neither here nor there. Neither here nor there
on that, but in me saying that before I wasn't
a huge fan of Snyder, I wish that they would
have just... let him do what he wanted to do
and just left him alone because the film having
Joss Whedon come in was a total failure. But
it's Warner Brothers and it's DC Comics and especially
with DC they have to you know micromanage everything.
Well we'll see how that works out for them with
AT &T owning the business now. Yeah that's true.
AT &T is going to totally change HBO as well.
Oh wow yeah that's true. Alright, so maybe final
topic for this week. I've been trying my best
to start being more healthy I'm not switching
to tofu or any of that kind of stuff But I'm
slowly changing my eating habits since Karen
and I bought the house that we currently live
in I'm doing more outside work and things like
that and whatever else I'm not like cutting the
grass or anything, but I'm outside more than
I was 11 months ago With this is I'm not totally
cutting soda out of my diet, but I'm cutting
back Extremely and I'm drinking more of various
other things and we found this stuff in one of
the grocery stores here It's called by BAI People
have probably seen this recently on TV because
Justin Timberlake does the commercials for them
It's crazy, but it's basically water mixed with
juice. It's some sort of anti -oxidant infusion
kind of thing. The best way I can explain it,
think of V8 but it actually tastes good instead
of tasting like vegetables. It tastes fruity.
They've got a variety of things. They've got
things that are basically like carbonated pop.
Right. So they've got like the... Except this
is just the juice. This is the regular buy. I
don't do any of that carbonated stuff. I do carbonated.
I like carbonated. I mean, I'll drink juice,
too, but... Not with juice. I can't. Like, I've
tried... It reminds me of Fago. Oh, God. I used
to drink Fago. It's a Michigan drink. Primarily.
But they have, you know, a number of sparkling
antioxidant infusions. And then they have super
teas, and then they have... cocoa fusions that
they call it or coconut fusion drinks. And then
the anti -accident water. So I've been drinking
mainly the Maui Mango. Tastes really good. I
like it. I've tried the pomegranate one. I'm
drinking not as much water as I should, but I'm
drinking more water. I'm basically drinking more
juices, water, and obviously milk and that kind
of stuff now. I'm slowly changing my diet, eating
more fruits and that kind of thing. Yay, trying
to get healthy. The rest of my household is vegan.
I am not. I know you're not I mean I am when
it comes to the things that are made in the house
if it's something that's brought in from the
outside like chicken I won't eat the crap out
of that chicken but I mean I've grown to like
or enjoy some of the foods like some of the foods
I'm still like barf but and Mary knows it but
we still do eat real food like and I say real
food meaning like just regular stuff that everybody
else on occasion it's just that we have to limit
the amount because it's all bad for you like
everything's bad for you unless you like go the
extra route and make it yourself like there's
so much crap in everything like especially like
high fructose corn syrup which is my best friend
when I drink Coca -Cola That's like my one thing
that I just can't give up at the moment. Even
though I probably should. It's probably turning
my insides into jello. Or like a raisin. But
yeah, I mean, we eat so much healthy food. Like
our idea of like sweets or like we get, you know,
grapes, watermelon. Apples like all that kind
of stuff, which is we just bought a watermelon
the other day and we just cut it open this morning
and actually I had like there ain't nothing better
than a fresh watermelon or like Well, like the
same day we bought that we I also bought some
cantaloupe chunks and Don't ever buy fruit chunks
folks. Like just don't it's not worth it. It's
just no but just buy the whole fruit Exactly.
Chop it yourself. Exactly. Chop, chop, chop it
up. But yeah, like Mary bought the other day
like four watermelons. Oh my God. They were on
sale. They were like $1 .99, which around here,
normally they're like seven bucks. Right. And
we get some really good ones from like our Meyer
store that's local here. And so like we went
through four watermelons as a family within like,
I think it was five days six days because like
we we eat the crap out of like fruit right but
yes I mean like the the whole thing with with
eating healthier is definitely something we've
been trying to do over the last year especially
with the boys having all the allergies yeah and
for me it's just it's more of a mindset thing
like For me, it's more mindset and it's also
more portion control like that's because at 300
and something pounds a Little you know seven
grapes aren't gonna fill me up You know kind
of a thing. So that's my other issue. But again,
I'm moving more I'm doing more I'm physically
exerting my like Every single day at this point
unless I'm absolutely Sick or something which
I very rarely get sick. I'm not outside You know
I am if I'm not outside at least once a day.
There's something wrong with me You know kind
of a thing and I think I've lost like five pounds
in the Almost three and a half months. We've
been here in this house Thank you, but that that
to me is like I'm not expecting to shave a hundred
pounds in three months, but like Ten pounds maybe
fifteen pounds, maybe twenty pounds like with
all the stuff that I have been doing It's like
give me a break already Yeah, anyway I get it
Like I know I understand it's a it's basically
a tortoise thing. It's a it's a slow and steady
race It's it's not gonna you know, but the other
thing is I'm not just getting outside We've been
going to LA Fitness and using the pool and swell
like me and swimming. I that's the exercise I
can do All the time like I can actually do a
whole bunch of crazy stuff underwater as long
as I'm wearing an actual mask And whatever so
we've been doing that we've been going to the
local Aquatic Center So I'm getting more than
just being outside walking around or like you
know like jogging or something so At the same
time. It's like yeah, I'm just now changing my
eating habits It's taken me three and a half
months to finally get a word or whatever, but
it's like Hurry up already No, I'll be happy
if I can get down to at least 200 or 250 I Keep
thinking of just going through and just doing
liposuction, but that'll never work That too
so now that we've run the show into the ground
Yeah, so I think that about calls it a night.
Yep, pretty much. So give us your content, questions,
