About this Episode

This episode covers the early status of current CW DC superhero seasons, including thoughts on character development in Supergirl and the shift in dynamic on The Flash. The discussion touches on the Time Bureau in Legends of Tomorrow and the status of Green Arrow in the latest season of Arrow. There is also a breakdown of references to Batman and Bruce Wayne across the various series, as well as an update on the current season of Gotham, including the introduction of Professor Pyg.

And welcome to what used to be Legends of the

Dark Knight, now Legends of the Brave and the

Bold. I'm your host, Steve Megatron Phillips,

and joining me in this episode is... I protest,

dammit. No protest. This is for our CW content,

and so I figure what better way to comprise all

the legends of the TV universe of Batman. Arrow

flash legends of tomorrow and Supergirl then

to put them all in one show. Yep So rather than

having a whole entirely different feed for something

that may be sporadic Yeah, we might as well put

them on a feed. Yep. So we're just retitling

legends of the dark night. So we'll still have

Batman seasonal breakdowns. Yep, all kinds of

stuff like that. So it'll still be both kind

of in one, so you kind of get more content with

less subscriptions. And the superhero stuff can

shine on its own without being, you know, overtaking

of AG. Yeah, and that's kind of why I moved it

over here was because I wasn't able to talk tech,

I wasn't able to talk discussion, I wasn't able

to talk about just anything that I wanted to

that I wasn't getting to because I was like,

superheroes unite! Which is why Future Imperfect

has all the Star Trek material and All Things

Transformers has all the Transformers material

so that I could keep Altered Geek clean of it

so How have you been liking this season so far

even though we're only two or three episodes

in Only two episodes in of the CW stuff episode

the third episodes will air the week that we

record this we're recording this Monday October

23rd 2017 So the next episodes will be airing

this week. So we've got the first two episodes

of each of the shows Supergirl is kind of waning

on me at this point Like I'm waiting for something

awesome to happen. I'm kind of in the same boat

as you I'm not Enjoying this as thoroughly as

everybody else and I'm not I'm enjoying it, but

I'm not enjoying Her characterization at this

like I we get it. She lost Mon -el not I'm not

saying don't have a grieving period for that

But at some point they're going to either find

an alternate universe version of him or they're

gonna find him himself or something I'm hoping

by episode three So the first three episodes

of Supergirl girl of steel was episode one triggers

was episode two this week coming up We have not

seen this yet as far from the tree Okay, so I'm

hoping by episode three. She doesn't really like

well By the end of episode two, she seemed to

have rebounded. Yeah, a little bit. But who the

hell knows? I mean, it's Earth 33 or whatever

it is, 38 or whatever. I think it's 38, isn't

it? I don't know. I don't have a clue. I don't

remember. Yeah, I actually had to watch season

three, like the last two episodes of season three,

to remember what the hell happened on Supergirl.

I'm liking it, I'm just not liking her characterization

at this point. Well, the only thing to look forward

to is we will have John Jones' father. Yep, and

that will be Carl Lomley. Yep, which will be

awesome. So, there's that to look forward to,

and then there'll also be the crossover. Which

would be kind of the big event of the season

for everybody. Yeah, absolutely. I'm so looking

forward to that. So before we get into that,

what were your thoughts on Arrow, Legends, and

The Flash? OK, so how I've done this is I've

gone in how they air. So I talked about Supergirl

first, which is on Mondays, Flash and Legends

on Tuesdays, and then Arrow on Thursdays. So

next up is The Flash. I'm loving this. Flash

is easily. Flash and Legends, the way I. Remember

last time we talked about this on AG where we

gave an order of how we liked the shows and that

kind of thing? Flash, Legends, Arrow, then Supergirl

at this point for me. Yeah, that's kind of my

vote. I'll reason my Arrow liking afterwards,

but the Flash, the first two episodes were great.

I absolutely loved them. The fact that in episode

two, Gypsy comes back. Episode one, we have this

really, really whacked out. Speed Force Barry,

I like that. I like that Iris is actually working

with the team. She's almost become the Harrison

Wells of the team at this point. I like that.

I'm super interested, and I cannot wait to see

more with Caitlyn, aka Killer Frost, and see

how that all plays out. Cisco and Gypsy are kind

of like the couple for me at this. Barry and

Iris, Barry and Iris are forever. We know. We

get it. Get it over with already. Although right

now, they're not. Know they're all the couples

counseling thing was so hilarious He's like I

gotta go. Yeah, I gotta go But the you're writing

all this down aren't you? Yes. Yes, I am But

yeah, the the whole funny part is is you know

you get very with the secret code which is the

thinker who's using that and then You get various

aspects with Gypsy, and you get to meet Gypsy's

father in another episode, which is... Man, I

can't remember his name, but he plays a villain

in most things he's in. He's gonna be called

Breacher. Oh yeah, I remember that. He's... Danny

Trejo. Yeah. Yeah, and he'll be testing Cisco

because he'll be a little upset that His daughter

gypsy is kind of Dating a nerd well not as hardened

as she once was yes and they're from Earth 19

so Yeah, so this this will be This will this

will be interesting to see how this plays out

It'll be kind of cool to see a Cisco centric

story Absolutely, cuz like I said to me Cisco

and gypsy or vibe and gypsy or whatever They

are the it couple for me right now on flash I

love seeing their interactions and things like

that and everything else. Absolutely. Love that

with legends I was not expecting a Time Bureau,

but I'm glad that Rip did this. I think this

is hilarious. I think this is fun. This is interesting.

This is basically... This is basically The Adventures

of Briscoe County Jr. with Legends at this point.

Well, and it's kind of funny because, you know,

the Legends are having to come into their own.

The first episode is kind of funny because they're

all in the real world and they're all having

to work normal, like, tedious jobs, except for...

Heat wave who's just chilling on the beach like

he wanted to and then Caesar shows up on his

doorstep and and that's what throws them back

into the mix and You know Sarah's picturing different

ways of killing her boss, which is just horrible

and funny at the same time Because it's like

so beneath her capabilities and Then there's

you know Ray who's getting you know destroyed

by Millennials Uh... Like... Why I love Brandon

Routh as Ray Palmer slash The Adam is because

he doesn't have to worry about Superman crap

anymore. Like, it's nice when they reference

various things and all of that, but like, oh

my, like him as Ray as The Adam, I love that

and the whole tech thing in the app and this

and that and what, oh my, I just so enjoy that.

Now, we will be losing Victor Garber this season.

Damn it. He's he's decided that He will no longer

be a series regular his character is going to

be going back home So they're not sure exactly

what's gonna happen with Jeffers storm yeah,

I have a feeling that they either a may take

You may see the return of the previous firestorm

Ronnie Ronnie or you may see Firestorm completely

leave the show. Which would be unfortunate because

he's really their big powerhouse. Yeah, and he's

like... Firestorm... With Jax and and Stein is

is what kind of makes the show fun. I mean, the

whole show is funny at times, but like their

interaction, the way they have to get along or

the way that they're a bit like you have to find

someone similar to Stein. Hell, well, no, they

wouldn't. I was going to say if Victor is leaving

the show, there's no way they would get a. Well,

he wants to he wants to leave the show so you

can go back to Broadway and do more theater.

Right. Yeah. Which which is fine. And then. So

I'm almost wondering, should they bring over,

and I've seen thoughts about this, should they

bring over KidFlash? Yeah, cause he and... Because

he's kind of being stomped all over trying to

find his place in the Flash and he's not really

getting anywhere to show off and so I think adding

him to this team would help refine him. That's

true, but what are you gonna do with Jax and

firestorm? That's now are you gonna completely

get rid of them like I don't see if they don't

have someone for him to merge with Yeah, his

character is kind of Unable to be there. Yeah

it would be interesting to see if they brought

over Wally because the whole episode beginning

here of Citizen steel and of steel and Wally

working together. I thought that was pretty cool

So, I mean, I would like to see that, honestly,

but that's just because The Flash is strictly

a Barry show. You know, I mean, you have your

throw -ins here and there, but still. And then,

getting over to Arrow, you have the leaked info

of him being the Green Arrow and being investigated,

and he's like, you know... You know, this could

have been Photoshop. This could have been Bruce

Wayne's head on. And then, you know, has Bruce

Wayne left Gotham City lately? Yeah, people's

brains exploded when he said that. And so it

just further cemented that, you know, he obviously

knows Bruce Wayne's Batman. Otherwise, like,

he's, you know, because why else would he drop

that? And then you have the fact that... Bruce's

name like Bruce people are actually like this

is the first time Bruce Wayne Yeah, it's the

first time his name has been said, but he's been

hinted at all through the arrow verse You have

the season one of the flash and this is what

everybody keeps forgetting is when they bring

this up They're forgetting season one. You had

the newspaper articles where it says flash disappears

in crisis. Well At the bottom of that article,

it says Wayne Industries acquires Queen Consolidated.

In Earth 2, Bruce's name is on the telephone

along with Wonder Woman and a few other characters

on the telephone there. I'm wondering if we're

going to get us a Bruce Wayne that may... May

show, and if they're gonna have him, you know,

I agree, he should show up to the extent that

Superman does. Mm -hmm. Every now and then, yeah.

Yeah, so he's not overshadowing, but he's clearly

in the universe, and I wish they'd stop tiptoeing

around it, and even in Supergirl, they've hinted

at numerous times, you know, you know, I'm gonna

move back to Gotham at least, you know, I don't

have stuff falling here, or, you know, that's...

Or, you know, my cousin worked with a vigilante

once, you know, dark and brooding and... So I

mean, you've got multiple instances on different

Earths of Batman. And so at this point, I wish

that they would just either A, stop referencing

it like they've done. You know, they've referenced

Green Lantern twice on Arrow. Yep. Ferris Error.

Ferris Error. And then there was a scene with

Amanda Waller with Oliver Queen in a bar. Oh,

that's right. And Hal Jordan was sitting next

to him. except Jordan on his jacket and so So

like I almost wish that at this point they would

just either stop teasing it or show him Because

it's it's I Understand he's in the universe.

I understand that it's a very fine line. They

have to tiptoe but Either a cast someone new

to play him or if they're gonna go with going

because they they like to recycle CW actors I

would almost argue that they could, being that

it would be a partial viewing anyway, he wouldn't

be a permanent cast member. He'd just be kind

of a guest star showing up periodically. I almost

argue that they could have Jensen Ackles from

Supernatural guest as him because he's kind of

got the build of Bruce Wayne. He's played Jason

Todd under the Red Hood. and I think that he

would make a pretty slick Batman for this universe

and he can do the serious and goofy at the same

time so I think that he would be very fitting

plus the supernatural like all the CW casts are

pretty much friends with each other so it's kind

of interesting yeah and that kind of goes with

the same thing of how you know the smallville

Superman actor expressed interest in coming to

the Flash universe. Yeah, Tom Welling. I would

love to see this at this point. What's his name?

If Justin Hartley wasn't so busy with This Is

Us, you could have Tom Welling and Justin Hartley

as Superman Green Arrow. Or even Superman Green

Lantern whatever but like another version like

I have another arrow an Oliver doppelganger from

another earth Well, they can have him you know

they can have him be from like Earth five Yeah,

you know just grabbing a random Earth number

and saying oh, this is this version And then

we give them an excuse to have different costumes

and everything you know or make them look like

the The animated series version with the goatee

and the the hat that looks like Robin Hood Make

the Justin Hartley green arrow from another earth

look like that and then they would then that

would get everybody off Stephen Amell's back

Very true, so I don't know. I think that these

these are some interesting things that could

could kind of pop up as the series go Absolutely

it could and I know Gotham's not a part of this

universe But what are your thoughts of that so

far if you've been honestly? I haven't even watched

season 4 yet. I've watched nothing of it at all.

I will say the Ra's Al Ghul element in it is

interesting. Short -lived, but interesting. It's

a lot better than what we got on Arrow. They've

explained him a lot better and he looks more

clearly like Ra's Al Ghul. We have we have Solomon

Grundy who's shown up All right, which is pretty

slick it's it's I think we're finally coming

into it where things are starting to that finally

mesh and and it's starting to gear up towards

certain people taking on certain roles and I

know that it's been like tiptoeing around stuff

for a while, but I think that we're starting

to get to that point where People and characters

are gonna start evolving quickly Cool so and

things with Bruce things with with Gordon Just

it's it's it's Surprising me. Let's put it that

way. They're having professor pig come in next

week. So I read this week, so I'm not Really

gonna be watching this one It just looks like

a... It looks like a jigsaw, like, saw type of

an episode, and I'm not into that stuff anymore,

so I could deal with the creepy -looking characters,

you know, Solomon Grundy and so on and whatnot,

but the Professor Pig thing, there's no way I'm

watching that. So, yeah. I mean, I think that

about kind of rounds out a lot of it. absolutely

yeah no I'm very much like right now I am very

happy I'm slightly not happy with Supergirl but

I'm open to see where it goes but legend flash

legends and arrow I am very happy with all three

of them and I'm very happy arrows kind of turned

around and started kind of going more into the

kind of changing up the status quo and kind of

kind of getting him to the point where everybody

kind of knows he's the vigilante yeah So even

though they're tiptoeing around it and they made

him a father in it, so he's having to deal with

that Yeah, I like I love that aspect of it because

it's basically not actually making him but having

him grow up more Than you know just being the

same old same old Oliver, which is really really

cool, and it's also kind of making me wonder

what's gonna happen as far as Diggle since he's

been injured and now he's going to be the green

arrow. Yep So... Yep, yep, yep. I guess we'll

kind of see what happens in all that. But I think

for me, it's the Flash and Legends that are my

top two, which is surprising because I didn't

have much hope for Legends in Season 1. Oh, Legends

I have loved from the beginning. I like it. It's

just getting better. But the whole Vandal Savage

thing just drove me nuts. Once Season 2 hit,

I was kind of more on board with it. I am looking

forward to the entire crossover though with the

wedding situation and the earth What are they

the the? Basically Nazi earth you have the Nazi

Supergirl the arrow and they've all got this

weird faceplate mask thing on the red eyes thing

and then You have the the double lightning bolt

thing on the chest for a reverse flash who is

Tom Kavanaugh Very cool. Playing the Harrison

Wells, you know, Eobard Thawne of that universe

of the Flash. So it'll be interesting and then

they've got another Killer Frost and then another,

you know, so you're gonna see a lot of the same

characters and different aesthetics coming over

fighting their Earth One version. So I'm very

much looking forward to this and this of course

will all transpire right before holiday break.

Yay Absolutely, so so I think that about rounds

this out on legends of the brave and the bold

Yep So yeah till next time Keep on tuning into

them superheroes We gotta work on that yes, we

do yeah
