You're listening to All Things Transformers,
version 2 .0. Things Transformers. Beacon court
Michael. Hey, how's it going? And Kevin optimus
solo greetings? Holy crap when the hell was the
last time you were on all things transformers
episode? It was the early reboot Yeah, it didn't
have to be at least a year and a half or two
years ago. I only come when certain topics beckon
me. Yeah God, that's way too much information.
I'm actually topless right now. I thought that's
what we were supposed to do. Secretly, the audience
doesn't know this. Secretly, we're all podcasting
without pants. The thing with the camera is not
on us. I just got done with the camera. We were
doing the ten bottom. Bottomless. Bottomless.
Hold on. Let me turn my camera on. Hold on. Oh
God, no. Don't even try it. Yes. Excellent. Yes.
What are we doing again? I can't remember. Damn.
Steve, how did you go about making your list?
I went backwards from one and went backwards
again. I took every character I like from every
series and then I did a I Well, I voted on my
own characters and then I had them fight in their
own version of GCR and wars and then I came up
with my top ten And when we get to it later how
many honorable mentions do you have I have 47
I'm joking The answer is 42. I don't know why
but it's just there Okay, Kev, how did you go
about making your list? Well, I went through
every... Well, that's a lie. We all know you
went through every G1 character only. No, I opened
up the G1 page at Behind the Voice Actors and
I went one by one scrolling through every single
character and wrote down any that I just generally
like. Then I went to Beast Wars and did the same
thing, and Beast Machines and did the same thing,
and Transformers Animated and attempted to do
the same thing, and Transformers Prime, and let's
see what else did I hit. I didn't need to go
to the animated movie because they're all in
G1. I apologize, I skipped the Unicron trilogy
as well as the Michael Bay movies. didn't factor
and I also skipped rescue bots because I've never
seen an episode so I can't really factor that
in. It'd be just pure ignorance. So then once
I had my list of characters I liked from the
various shows I started an impossible task of
trying to narrow it down. I kind of went through
and picked like the sure things that are definitely
going to be in the list and then there was a
whole bunch of gray area. I had like 25 characters
and I was trying to get it down to 10 and I guess
I somehow managed to do that. Now, I will say,
just for the listener's sake, that there was
a bit of confusion between the last episode and
this episode, because at the end of the last
episode, off air, Michael said, so if we're doing
the top 10 characters from all generations, that
just means number 10 is Starscream, number 9
is Starscream, number 8 is Starscream. Like,
no. Pick one character from one generation, one
version of that character. Michael, how did you
go about making your list? Hold on, I need to
redo my list real quick. Yeah, yeah, do mine
too. I'm just kidding. Shit, I knew there was
a reason why I couldn't be on this episode. Turn
it around. Actually, I just started thinking
about who my favorite characters were and from
which series and just wrote them down and then
we didn't start. When we were supposed to start
so they gave me an extra ten minutes actually
put them in order And that worked out for me
and now that you mention it I actually have One
character listed twice from two different series
So but but I'm gonna stick to my guns. Yeah,
I'm gonna stick to my guns here. I have a specific
reason for predicting this character What I've
done for mine, I only have... Let me see here.
I only have two characters on here that are from
two different series, but they're essentially
kind of the same character. They're both Megatron.
No. No? They're both Optimus Prime? They're Transformers
without sparks. Okay, so there are several things
that I think we can all agree on. Oh wow, hold
on. What did you just say? There are several
things I think all of us can agree on. He's a
fellowship. Nightscream is not on anybody's list.
Whoa. Alright. Was he on yours? Uh, not anymore.
There are not gonna be any Bayformer characters
in any of our lists. Uh, let's see, as Kevin
already said, Unicron Trilogy doesn't count.
I mean it counts, I just don't have any characters
from it. It counts. It counts. Rescue Bots counts
more than Unicron Trilogy does. You know what's
terrible? I love Rescue Bots, I really do. And
you have no Rescue Bot characters, do you? No,
I don't have any Rescue Bot characters in my
list. And Mari would be so disappointed in you.
Well, I know, but it's like... It's a kid's show.
I've got like, I've got... G1 characters that
I've loved since I was 11 and then boulder, you
know It's like sorry boulder. He didn't make
the cut buddy Epic fail I'll have to apologize
to him later. Sorry, buddy didn't make the cut
All right, we are gonna take a quick break you're
gonna hear some character selections and then
we'll come back with the top ten after this I
got better things to do tonight than die. I thought
you were made of sterner stuff. It isn't even
dead yet. Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?
We're being sucked into it! Oh, how it pains
me to do this! Looptie loop, huh? You have some
brass bearings, Bumblebee! I love when a plan
comes together! Destroy them! Now where's the
fun in that? As a torment, I think. First, yes!
Yes! No! Yes! Yes! No! Yes! No! Yes! No! Yes!
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! No! Yes! Yes!
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! No! Yes! Yes! No! We
are back and it is time for the top ten. We will
be doing the honorable mentions at the end of
the show because apparently Optimus Solo said
it gives things away out of our list. I don't
see how, but... Steve what is your number 10
favorite Transformers character? Well this week's
version is Generation one iron hide the reasoning
I think I like this character so much is because
Well one I dig the voice and in two I just love
the character design I don't know why. It's one
of those characters that's kind of stuck with
me over the years from especially the movie,
but even in the series, he just seems kind of
like the old veteran badass that was slowly replaced
by Cup. Right, right. Plus, I love the color
red on stuff, as you can see on the site, and
the All Things Transformers logo. So, that was
another influence of this character. It's just
one of my favorite Autobots that's not a leader.
You said, especially because of the movie, all
I can think of is, no, such heroic nonsense.
Boom! Headshot. It actually went more like this.
Noooo! Such heroic nonsense! Alright, Optimus
Solo, what is your number ten? Oh man. I guess
I'll start... I'm sorry, my list has changed
so many times because I was debating on whether
I could include two characters or not. So I had
like one version with them and one version without
them. Am going to go let's start off with Beast
Wars on my list. Holy crap. Yeah I'm gonna start
off with a character that I think brought so
much to that series and so much to the storylines
and Was just a unique character that we hadn't
really gotten Anything close to it up until that
point So I'm gonna go with black arachnia from
from Beast Wars as my number ten just because
she was unique And like I said, she just brought
so much, all the different storylines that she
was involved with, especially like the stuff
with her and Tarantulas. I just liked that we
got a legit female character in the Transformers
franchise. That didn't just seem like forced
in there. So Black Ragnia. You mean to that point,
right? Right. Because there were legit female
characters after... That's what I said. I said
to that point. Pay attention. She was the first
of her kind. Yes What about you Michael number
10 number 10? I'm going to go with Monka spanka
No, I'm kidding number 10 I'm going to include
our only representative from the unicorn trilogy
Armada Starscream Now the thing over a second
there. I thought you were gonna say sky bite.
Oh Damn, it's like I should have made the list.
Yeah No, I really like I'm out of sky by but
no in this case. I wanted to say Starscream You
know, I like several incarnations of Starscream
like almost all of them, but but this one stands
out because He was so much different than any
other Starscreams, you know, you think of Starscream
It's like I want to be the leader. I'm sneaky.
I'm underhanded, you know, I'm always trying
to overthrow Megatron This guy was different.
He was the the first to join the good guys He
had a girlfriend and He took on Unicron and lost
and he was disintegrated And he didn't come back.
He wasn't like a spark ghost or anything. He
was just dead Well, I shouldn't say that actually
they brought they broke back his spark ghost
in the next season or the next series Which was
which was dumb and and that character was dumb
but they sully the name of Armada Starscream
because like I said, he was just really Interesting
character they they kind of took Starscream and
made him a little more likeable. For me, my number
10, I think people are probably going to scream
at me for this, but my number 10, we're going
back to 1984 and G1 and we're going to say that
it's Optimus Prime at number 10. The only reason
why optimus is number 10 is because I have nine
other characters that I like more I loved optimus
as a kid, but they kept killing him as A six
seven year old they scarred me for life with
dark awakening making him a fucking zombie If
you look at it really he's one of the worst leaders
in transformers history So your defense of him
being number 10 on your list is to completely
rip him apart as no good character at all? He
I like the voice I like Peter Cullen as the voice
but optimus himself He does some really stupid
things in g1 like instead of strategizing how
to find Megatron and make sure he's not doing
something He's not supposed to do he's out there
playing basketball in a cup in one episode He
blindly sends his troops into battle without
knowing what the hell is going on But overall
optimus I do like him. I do like Peter Cullen
being the voice of Optimus. I think the most
badass scene he ever had was that run in the
movie when he hits Thrust right in the bumper
Yeah, so that's that's my number 10 Steve You
know with bumper He hits him with his bumper
when the rest of us all have Optimus Prime is
number one You're gonna be like what a dumbass
I am No, I'm not I'll be like that because there's
there's another one. That's much better. Don't
be a liar Steve number nine That's shit in German
kids, I know such a wonderful word G1 Starscream
I... As nine? Yeah. Alright. My list gets different
towards the end. I know who your number one is,
but it's only got to get more interesting from
here. Yeah, there's only one character you guys
know is going to be on there. And where he's
going to place. Monka Spanka. But anyway, Starscream
was actually one of my favorite - Decepticons
before Megatron Because of the fact that one
he's a snarky whiny little bitch Again, he's
red. He can fly. He's a jet his kick -ass null
rays and then The fact that he shares a voice
with Cobra commander It's just I I love that
that voice on that and to me this is the only
Starscream I'm not saying that I don't love Steve
Bloom's version or any of the others that have
done it over the years, but this is my number
one Starscream. The fact that he died in the
film, came back in the animated series twice
as a ghost and then managed to get his body back,
and then completely fucked over Unicron after
Unicron's like... Will give you your body and
he's like do it yourself and then he just like
throws the cords down and leaves And then he
ends up in Beast Wars so I mean it's he's just
a badass all on his own So when he shows up in
my list I'm gonna say what Steve said Kevin number
nine. Oh, can we mute Mike's mic for this one?
Not putting on this. I didn't put this on my
list to piss anybody off. I'm not trying to make
a joke. It's legit. When I looked at everything,
it really is my ninth most favorite character
in all of Transformers history. Really? And that
would be a G1 character by the name of Springer.
I loved Springer in the movie. Obviously the
movie was bringing a whole bunch of new characters
to us. I didn't care for a lot of them, but for
some reason I just really liked Springer in the
movie and then in the series afterwards. I don't
know, I guess I just could relate to him in some
way shape or form and he just kind of seemed
cool and I will say I don't like his toy. His
G1 toy was utter crap. Um, but as far as his
character in the animated form, I really like
Springer. So out of the movie people, uh, he
was one of my favorites. So Springer is number
nine for me. Oh, that's legit. I mean, you know,
some people that I could mention don't like Springer,
but you know, a lot of people who, I liked it
when he, uh, you know, became a bunch of pieces
and he was just a head for a while. And I think
a lot of people who, who prefer like. You know,
the third season stuff, you know, maybe they
like Springer. I think he's under the radar.
People forget about Springer, except for when
Mike is hating on him. But overall, I think in
general, people forget about Springer and he
was kind of cool. He didn't do anything wrong
in the series. Come on now. No, not. No, his
entire role in the movie was wrong. But anyway,
Michael, number nine. Beast Wars Blackarachnia
So I I completely agree with Kevin. Yeah, it's
a Blackarachnia had a really good run She had
an excellent story arc. She was I want to say
the first female character who had any type of
a real story arc Pretty much in Transformers.
She went through the the whole hero's journey
Mm -hmm bad guy the good guy and A lot of the
most interesting Beast Wars episodes were kind
of center around her in my opinion. Yeah. Yeah,
exactly and some of the the nicer Beast Wars
toys or Blackarachnia toys. Yeah, like that,
you know, good luck finding a Transmetal to Blackarachnia.
That's a sharp toy Yeah, there's one they never
made though. Hmm When she went silver in the
episode where they're on the island. Yeah, that
would that would have been an awesome toy. Yeah.
Yeah I'm sure funpub will get right on that.
Well, they they never got they never got the
body, right? She was still a repainted tarantulas
till she went transmittal to Yeah, yeah, you
know, we give you trance lists was kind of feminine
Just don't even Alright my number nine is the
first of three Yeah, first of three that Come
from two different generations. We're gonna go
to g1 and animated. You said we had to pick well
Anyway Can we just want to fail he's the one
that said we had to pick Alright fine, I'll pick
number 9 going to Animated, Shockwave. Shockwave
in G1, well I love Cory Burton's voice for Shockwave
in G1. Shockwave really didn't do anything all
that logical because every time the female Autobots
kicked his ass. But in Animated, he was ruthless.
I mean, they set up a storyline for him in Animated
where he was a spy. For the Decepticons, he got
implanted in auto boot camp as long arm and it
took them until the third season to actually
give him his true colors and again, like I said,
Cory Burton Rick returned to do the voice again
and The fact that he killed blur. Oh my god.
Yeah, that was a great character Absolutely number
eight Steve. Oh, I'm not gonna have much to say
here being that it's already been said Optimus
Prime? Wow. It's like you guys copied off each
other. What is this? She was unique. I mean,
to this point, the female Transformer characters
had been kind of lame. And from the moment of
her inception to through her entire run, she
had one of... Not a lot of characters had a lot
of evolution throughout the series She was one
of them that had heavy evolution Hmm, so and
there was a lot of character development with
her character. Whereas, you know you look at
Some other ones they you know didn't really change
all that much I Mean arguably they only had like
six main characters. So Everyone got a certain
story arc, but she was the first female to get
a story arc. And again, arguably, hers was better
than some of the other male characters. Compare
her to Air Razor. Air Razor got totally f -ed
over. Oh yeah. Like, Black Arachnia got the main
focus and Eraser was kind of screwed from the
get -go, just like Tigatron kind of was after
Eraser showed up. And then they, you know, it's
the same type of, I don't know, I mean, they
just, they did it better with her character than
they did with some of those like that. Even Quickstrike
was kind of lame compared to some of the stuff
that went on with her. Yeah. He was a tool. Exactly.
All right. Number eight, Kev. Well, so far we've
had nine characters and three of them have been
Black Ragnar, so dominating so far. My number
eight, another group that sometimes goes maybe
forgotten about when making these types of lists,
I would venture to guess. Maybe not. Maybe you
guys will have some other ones. But I wanted
to put one of the cassettes on there. Specifically,
probably my favorite one, which would be Rumble.
So I'm putting G1 Rumble on there, although I
guess you could make an argument for the video
game as far as the Fall for Cybertron version
is pretty cool in there, too. But I don't know,
I liked Rumble. I liked the Piledrivers. Out
of Soundwaves, Cassettes, Rumble and Frenzy were
always my favorites, so... It's not that He's
like an awesome character, but he brings a little
comedic relief He brings a little difference
as far as size wise goes and it comes out of
sound waves So that's just badass and it's of
itself. So, I don't know. I like rumble. His
pile drivers are cool Now is that the red one
or the blue one? Nobody calls sound wave uncharismatic
Michael number eight I Went with animated prowl
and and I'll tell you why The I want to say element
animated prowl was the first transformers ninja
We had the characters before in g1 who? Studied
the ancient Cybertronian art of metallicado,
you know and the and the five fingers of metallic
death or whatever but They didn't have screen
time, you know, you didn't see you didn't see
a ninja on except for a night bird Let's say
but she was I was just gonna say yeah. Yes. Prowl
is the first ever like Autobot Decepticon Yeah,
yeah the first Cybertronian ninja night bird
was in there night bird was a ninja and that
was interesting But it she wasn't Cybertron if
we can call her a she sure But you know, we have
this this character who's you know straight up
ninja. He's like I I have all those ninja skills
and he's I want to say like a zen master he like
hangs out under the tree under his tree in his
room and just admires nature so he had he had
a really interesting personality and in the end
spoilers he sacrifices himself to save the world
the series ended a number of years ago so anyone
hasn't seen it by now especially after listening
to this show if you haven't seen that series
and you're listening to the show then maybe you
should really go back and listen or you know
watch that series you need to go back and listen
to our reviews while you watch the series and
you can get that series on dvd in a complete
series form from shout factory thank you brian
ward exactly uh... my number eight we're gonna
go back to animated uh... and this time around
i'm gonna pick blur again animated set characters
up so well for introductions because we first
see what we think is blur what we think is a
blue racer autobot in the season one or two episode
i forget which one which season it is is in uh...
velocity yeah that's totally Right, and then
when we get to the point of later on in the series
when Bumblebee calls him Zippy and we finally
hear what Blur is going to sound like, it's John
Machina Jr. It's G1 Blur in the animated form
and that was so awesome. Blur in G1, he was okay.
In the movie in the movie he was really cool
in season three. I think he was wasted Yeah,
I think he always said the same thing over and
over and over again, but he said it really fast
So so he's like mumbles from the 1990 Dick Tracy
film says things really fast They have to record
it take it onto a record player and slow it down.
That's ridiculous. Yeah But at least an animated,
you know when he spoke really fast he spoke in
complete sentences Yeah, it was interest. That's
very true. I agree if I had the choose between
two blurs animated would be the blur I would
go with All right, Steve number seven Okay Beast
Wars Depth Charge Can't help it I love that character
from the minute he showed up in the series Just
simply I love the design. I love the fact that
the we we got our first water transformer No,
we had sea spray I'm saying in Beast Wars. Oh,
okay. I don't count sea spray. He was Yeah, so
I'm gonna get gargling something all the time.
Yeah So And depth charge kind of came in there
and was kind of like basically screw you screw
you screw you and You know, he he showed up Maximal,
you know all the Maximals and thrashed all the
Predacons till he realized rampage kicked his
ass On the first get -go and then Ended up forming
kind of a bond with Cheetor by saving him but
then you know, I mean he eventually became a
team player and you saw a little bit of evolution
and what little bit of the series was left where
he was there and Finally doing what he set out
to do which was terminate proto -formax The interesting
thing about sea spray sea spray is skeletor Kev
Alan Oppenheimer was the voice of C -Spray. Is
that going to be your number six? C -Spray? No.
Kev, number seven. Well, we haven't had one of
this character yet. We also haven't had anybody
from this show yet, which is somewhat of a crime.
So I will rectify both of those things. And with
my number seven, I will go with Megatron. from
specifically Transformers Prime. I have to have
Megatron somewhere on the list, I guess. That's
probably a rule somewhere, I think, written down
somewhere in the bylaws of Transformers character
list. That is true. But why this particular one?
This one's my favorite one. It's my favorite
one because he's... As far as the attitude that
he has and the tone of him he obviously Megatron
always has a little bit of crazy, but he's not
just like Stupid crazy, or he doesn't necessarily
come across as Like your classic villain where
he's too dumb to actually ever get anything done
Megatron in Transformers Prime to me is ruthless
He's what I want out of that character now I
I'm not saying anything bad against the G1 one
because the G1 has a lot of that too They're
very similar in a lot of their traits. I just
like how it was done better in Transformers Prime
I like the voice Frank Welker uses in the in
the prime version of Megatron a little bit better
obviously he's aged so he probably can't do some
of the stuff that he was doing earlier, but Although
he's done the same voice for certain characters
for decades and decades. But I just like the
take on Transformers Prime. He's just a ruthless,
intimidating leader who doesn't take crap from
anybody, who puts people in their place. Probably
out of most characters in Transformers Prime,
I enjoyed him near the top. So I know that's
probably a weird... choice as far as if I had
to choose one Megatron. I know most people would
take other versions, but me personally, I will
take the Transformers Prime version. What I loved
about Megatron and Prime was that when they announced
that it was going to be Frank doing the voice,
we all assumed before we heard anything, we all
assumed, most of us probably did, that he was
just going to do G1 all over again. Well, as
Kevin said, he's gotten older since then. so
we weren't sure what it was going to sound like
and the G1 voice is on a higher register and
it's really one of those throat scratching voices
for him and I saw an interview and I'm sure we've
all seen this or I saw or I read an interview
where he says he used like the back of his vocal
cords he used a deeper tone for prime and it's
still it's not G1 Megatron but it's still damn
close to it Because it's still the same type
of character as you know, it's a more serious
turns exactly I Don't want to say that I prefer
it Because again when I think of Megatron is
got that gravel But at the same time I I do like
the way the character was written. I agree Oh
God The 2015 cartoon Christian Bale is gonna
be Megatron Why are you talking now? Shut up.
Michael, you're number seven. I'm number seven.
G1Jazz. Jazz was one of the main good guys on
the show, and he was voiced by Scatman Crothers.
He had a very unique, very interesting voice.
People can do a good Scatman. But, I mean, people
don't talk like that. There's only one person
that I've heard do a full -on impression of Scatman.
That's Phil Lamar. Sounds just like him. Yeah,
it's really, really good. It's still not gravely
enough to be... It's the damn closest you'll
ever hear, but it's not gravely enough. Yeah,
it's really good, but it's not Scatman. And people
just don't... Again, that's not... Want to say
he is the only person who has ever had that particular
speaking voice and And I want to say that you
know him in the cartoon is pretty much just him
talking Yeah I'd have to watch that's what he
sounds in most and on almost all of his characters.
It's that voice so Yeah, no, it's it's it's really
interesting and I really liked him as a voice
actor I think and I think he brought a lot to
the show Alright for me number seven I put this
here because I do like this character and I say
character as a singular character, but I also
put it here because Since Kevin is on the show
now We got a debate about a certain g1 character
that it is a single character that just got a
personality twitch What my number seven overall
favorite character Megatron Galvatron from g1.
They are the same character Astro train in them
in season 3 even says they were the same guy.
They're not different characters Are you cheating?
I can I can kind of This is this is the thing.
He did get a name change. He did get reformatted
It is the same spark and and inside innards of
Megatron However, he did end up more or less
entering into more of a splintered Damaged version
of Megatron. So Mike for your number 10, should
we change it to Orion Pax? Just asking. Because
that's Optimus Prime. When he was a whiny little
bitch! I almost wish they would have let David
Wise leave in the panel where in War Dawn Megatron
was gonna slice his arm off. Sure why not. And
then he would become Shaak Wave. Hmm pretty much.
So which which version are you preferring though
Megatron or Galvatron? Oh Galvatron hands down
Galvatron. Yeah Really? Like I like the crazy
like I like freaking purple don't let him lie
No, I like I like the crazy and I like the voice
that Frank Welker used for Galvatron a little
bit better than Megatron I'm fine with that It
is my destiny! I didn't hate Galvatron. I did.
I didn't like Galvatron and I didn't like Rodimus
Prime. It just, you know, can't get behind those
two particular leaders. Anyway, Steve, number
six? My number six is Transformers Prime Megatron.
I just I liked the smooth armored version of
Megatron in this case and I love the fact that
he more or less didn't really take any shit from
anybody. I mean the only reason he got knocked
out was because you know he got power hungry
and then Starscream just kind of kept him in
that state so I mean it's He's he's managed to
do some things that the original Megatron would
not have done like the you know, the the zombie
transformers or the dark energon infusion and
I mean granted that stuff didn't exist in the
original but still He's he's managed to Kick
the Autobots asses and come up with other things
that I mean granted eventually he led to his
downfall, like they all do, but I think he's
the most badass Megatron next to my favorite
one. What I'm wondering is how are they going
to use Megatron in the upcoming series next year?
I was going to say, yeah, because at the end
of Beast Hunters, he basically threw down his
sword and said, no, I'm not fighting anymore.
We shall see. No, they're gonna make him a mad
hermit Kevin you're number six. Oh, yeah number
six Go back to where I started my countdown.
I guess I will go back to Beast Wars And this
time I will go with Cheetor He's my favorite
Beast Wars character liked that he wasn't just
all I know he he was playing a role that could
have been annoying but it to me it wasn't we
had the thing where kids could probably relate
to it that were younger than I was that were
watching that show as far as him like maturing
on the show and kind of really going through
a progression as a character but I really enjoyed
him especially you know once he gets to the Transmetal
Version of himself. The toy was pretty cool,
too. So I just really enjoyed cheater He was
my favorite character on that series. So I had
to put him in here. So that's what my next one
is Michael number six number six is animated
swindle At first I was like man, I really like
swindle. I want to go with g1 swindle because
I mean this guy You know sold the spare parts
of all of his teammates in order to make a little
extra cash on the side and And got a bomb put
in his head for his effort, but But animated
swindle has Fred Willard as the voice. Yeah It
just comes together. It's it's it's a perfect
storm of awesome. Yes Absolutely. Yeah, I wasn't
sure, because honestly, when they got to Swindle,
when they got to the SUV episode, Society of
Ultimate Villainy, I wasn't sure who. Because
I could barely remember the G1 voice. Like, I
had to actually go back and watch the G1 episodes
to even remember the G1 Swindle voice. And when
I realized it's Fred Willard, I'm like, oh, that
is so freaking cool. It's so perfect. Yeah, yes
Yeah, and I think they did a lot better job of
including swindle in the story arc I mean rather
than g1 g1. He was you know, but maybe one or
two episodes. He got his own own story Yeah,
but yeah, he played a pretty pretty significant
role in animated Next time you're on around Nexus
zero Say hi to the VOC for me. Nice people, the
VOC. Nice people, the VOC. Good stuff. My number
6 is the only triple changer that I really love,
Astrotrain. Jack Angel had the perfect voice
for this character in G1. I'm surprised that
no series past G1 has really used him. We've
had other trains. We had the bullet train. We
had rail racer with the bullet trains and stuff
like that, but like... Trains are hard. Yeah,
well, I guess kids nowadays don't like trains
or they don't know what a train is. Yeah, well,
yeah. Kind of like they don't know what a cassette
player is. Not like the locomotives that AstroTrain
turned into and, you know, Blitzwing. Blitzwing's
a safe bet. Tank! plane crazy guy yeah oh that's
talking about blitzwing and g1 yeah no well either
well you know either one i mean there's the blitzwing
and g1 didn't have much to do anything not really
he got run over by optimus prime too i think
Yeah, he got he got one he and astro train got
one episode triple takeover and it was a horrible
horrible episode But yeah astro train I've always
loved the character Mainly because I think it's
secretly King's Archon from Voltron inside astro
train Completely lost Jack angel Jack angel voice
King's Archon from Voltron, and it's the same
voice as astrotron Inside your head I know you
wouldn't like it there because you'd be in a
jail cell I don't want to be there Steve your
number five what you're saying is you cage him
and stare at him in the cave your number five
you sick sadistic bad somebody Go get the GIMP
the GIMP sleeping. I'll go wake him up Oh a cage
what you said so my number five is Beast Wars
rat trap See I couldn't decide which Scott McNeil
character was my favorite so I didn't pick any
of them I was torn. I wanted... I either was
going to do Dinobot or I was going to do Rattrap.
And for me, Rattrap lasted the entire Beast era.
But just specifically in Beast Wars, I liked
him because he was the inventor. He was the smartass.
He was the comic relief. He was the guy that
could get in and out of tight pinches. I mean...
Just look at his infiltration of the Predacon
base or against Sentinel when Dinobot smashed
it. Or even on the Ravages ship. Just in general,
this guy is... Those reasons alone are really
why I love the character. Plus, I love the designs
and the fact that he's a rat with wheels. After
he transmedalizes. Yeah, I mean, I like his original
form too, but I love them when he gets to the
Transmetal form. Absolutely. But he has staying
power. He actually got a new toy. Yeah, and he's
he's got the the new 30th anniversary Rattrap
toy, which is. Show accurate for the original
form. I just wish they would have had a trans
metal one, too But I would love a generations
trans metal to rat trap that is metal rat trap.
He wasn't to know But yeah, that's that's my
number five Kev what about you for number five?
I might get skewered a little for this too. I
guess a lot of people might think this is a little
too early Just like they did when Mike said it,
but for my number five, I'm gonna go with the
G1 version of Optimus Prime I don't I didn't
dislike him as much as you did Mike In your description
of him, but I don't know I like just as a kid
like he was he was Thought he was a great leader
When I was watching this show as a kid like he
seemed like that's how you should lead And that's
what you should be like when you know my little
kid brain version is watching this show He's
cool. He was a freaking truck You know you got
the trailer you got him you got the little guy
roller you got all kinds of cool things You got
Peter Cullen doing his voice which as a kid that
was like such an awesome voice to hear So yeah,
I like Optimus Prime from beginning to end of
g1 even zombie episode and all. Ultron's Prime
G1, how is he not on anybody's top 10 list? He
has to be somewhere, right? So, number five for
me. Michael, number five. Number five? I got
actually six people. But I'm only going to count
one. It's G1 Devastator. So G1 Devastator...
I still wanted to put a combiner in my list and
I just couldn't. You know, I love combiners.
When I first started collecting transformers
again in the... say late 90s, 99, 2000 or so,
that was kind of my go -to list. I wanted to
own the combiners for some reason, but Devastator
was my favorite toy. Well, that's hard to say
I had a g1 optimus that I really really loved
but aside from that the Devastator box set I
got that for Christmas and it was just the biggest
gift I'd ever received if it was huge and And
yeah Devastator was just my favorite favorite
toy and I would take them apart Toy ever received
so you just made me think of that Metroplex Oh,
you know, no, that's true. I did have a Metroplex,
but that was that was years later Actually, no,
it was like two years later. Anyway, whatever,
you know, I mean when you're when you're 10,
you know Two years is an eternity But yeah, so
no, I love that guy and I loved him on the movie
and You know whenever they create new combine
as i'm all over it i'm really excited for the
combiner wars next year mhm and that's next spring's
uh... it's i d w's next event for the transformers
comics currently for those that didn't know uh...
they have uh... toys we're getting the new menace
or we're going to carry us okay okay so the okay
it is going to be both or you knew that Not thought
the toys I knew the comic. Oh my god. Oh no the
toys are awesome, and there's already pictures
out of a Repaint of Motor Master in prime colors
so yeah, so they're saying that that there might
be an Autobot version of Menace or Like the g1
episode where optimus prime? Masquerade. Yeah
Masqueraded as Motor Master. It's it's gonna
be a good year for people who like combiners
My number five we're going back to animated and
this time and oh shut up This time it's it's
jazz. I love what Phil Lamar did with jazz. Of
course, I still do love Scatman in G1, but I
just wish there was a little bit more jazz and
animated. He didn't really have, like he was
there, but he didn't really have enough cool
things, but Phil Lamar gave him a super cool
voice. And when I had talked to him about it,
I asked him, I said, so did they tell you to
do your own thing or to impersonate Scatman?
And he said, well, impersonating Scatman, you
have to get into a certain zone and to do that,
you know, I can do it. But they told me to do
my own thing. And I think what he did with the
character was amazing. Yeah, I agree. Steve,
number four, it's G1 Optimus Prime. We weren't
so far off from each other just because he's
the original. Not that I didn't like the Transformers
Prime Optimus Prime, but I there's just something.
about that original Tractor trailer and the fact
that he was more of the innocent original incarnation
of Optimus Prime, whereas the later incarnations
have become bloodthirsty. Give me your face.
Yeah. Give me your face, Kelsey Grummer. Kill
them all. Grab the humans. Kill them all. But
yeah, I like the original Optimus Prime and he
was more noble and more... I don't know. Each
Optimus ends up becoming a badass at some point
during their run, but also gets some kind of
huge tragedy, whether it be death and then returning.
Don't they all get that? Yeah, but this one was
done better only because he was the first. After
the first, it's kind of like... It's like, you
know, this is this is fresh milk that's sour
milk, you know afterwards so it's You know each
each optimist. I mean think about it every time
a new Transformers series goes on They kill off
optimists and then they bring them back a couple
episodes later And we don't like that and we
hate it. Are you listening Stephen Melching?
No granted listening no granted Beast Wars and
Transformers Prime did it best Because they came
back with upgraded bodies to sell another toy,
but it was also New and cooler, but You know
more so the films were shitty with it, but anyways
Optimus Prime G1 is is the best version of that
Optimus Prime Kev number four number four I'm
really torn on the version that I would pick
for this individual character, but since I have
to pick one, I ultimately, I guess by default,
will go with the G1 version. to take anything
away from, although certain members of the panel
will disagree with me, but not to take anything
away from the Transformers Prime version of this
character. But just growing up, this was always
one of my favorite characters. I liked the toy.
I liked the character on the cartoon. So my number
four will be G1 version of Wheeljack. We had
to have a Wheeljack mentioned somewhere and he's
one of my favorite characters. So I really love
Wheeljack. Like I said, I also Liked the take
on him in Prime, but maybe liked the take a little
bit better with G1. And again, Chris Lada is
cool. So give him a nod, I guess, outside of
his Starscream role. He was cool as Wheeljack.
So Wheeljack, number four. I know a lot of people
think that's probably too high, but I loved him.
Yeah, I don't have a problem. I know a lot of
other people not on the panel that have a problem
with prime wheel jack that oh He wasn't a scientist.
No, he has swords and he's a wrecker. I mean
drift Yeah, anyway, I don't know. I honestly
out of the two versions. I'd pick g1 myself So
I mean I have zero problems real jack if I had
to go with a wheel jack. I would definitely choose
g1 and You're number four Michael G1 Grimlock.
Because we couldn't choose Bavers. Kidding. That's
not Grimlock, that's just some random... That's
the funniest thing about the show. Funniest moment.
You can't choose the Bavers? I love the G1 Dinobots.
I love them all equally. They're like my little
babies. You know, I can't pick one. But if I
had to pick one, it would be the only one they
ever let talk. Which would be... Well, you know,
some of them got... No, they all talk. Oh, please.
Swoop talked. Snarl talked. They got, like...
Sludge talked. They got, like, one line each
consisting of three words. That's not talking.
No, there was a whole episode in season three
where Swoop and... They could have been farting
and they would have had more syllables come out
of them. That's the biggest, that's the longest
sentence you've had this whole season, Snarl!
Oh wait, it was a movie! There was a whole episode
where Daniel and Swoop had a whole, like... 20
minutes out of a 30 -minute episode had a whole
thing to talk back and forth while they were
looking for the other Dinobots. So Michael Bell
as Swoop did have nearly a whole episode of dialogue.
Good for Swoop, but Grimlock basically left all
the Dinobots behind in season 3 and became Daniel's
puppy. Daniel's puppy was... Yeah, Daniel's puppy.
Yeah, you followed him around. Well, see Grimlock
got a new brain and then he ate the other Dinobots.
And recycled them into the... Cesium salami.
The Cesium salami. I was going to say the...
God, I forget what they're called. The Computron,
guys. The Technobots. Easily the crappiest of
the combiners. But the coolest toys. They well,
you know at that point they were doing futuristic
Cybertronian vehicles because they didn't want
to pay for the rights to actual real vehicles
anymore one of the most sturdy combiners as far
as the original toys go You think no, I want
to say Predaking Oh Predaking was too big. It
was too heavy. Oh, I love Predaking. No, I know
but I mean as far as like just wear and tear
and and being able to like keep its like Ability
to stand up. Yeah, the Technobots were in the
Terror cons Was that the right one? Yeah, terror
cons were two of the sturdiest They were just
making them a little better than they did when
like good Lord superions are impossible to stand
up. Oh, yeah Superion yeah, he stands up about
as well as Voyager class cheetor Supreme Cheetor
and Beast Machines. That's even worse. I was
going to say Night Scream, but we agreed not
to talk about Night Scream. Beast Wars is just
cluttered full of crappy toys, but that's either
here or there. Beast Machines. Beast Machines,
wow. That's a right hole we don't want to go
down. As far as combiners go, they did just get
better. They got better, yeah, they got better
and better. But for my money, Predaking is one
of my favorite combiners. My number four is Soundwave,
and I also do have a note on here for the other
cassettes as well. Now I know a lot of people
count the cassettes that came G1, G1 Soundwave.
You can't count the cassettes all with Soundwave,
they're separate guys. I said that I have a note
on here, Soundwave and the cassettes, but I'm
just picking Soundwave. But I know a lot of people
like all of the cassettes. I only like what was
introduced in the first two seasons and the movie.
I don't care about Slugfest and whatever the
hell the other ones were that were toys. Yeah,
Slugfest, Overkill, and whatever other ones there
were. I like those. Soundwave was awesome. Soundwave
was... Who thought of putting a cassette and
then being like, let's do dinosaurs? What's the
size? I don't know. I like cassette combiners.
Squawk talk and slam box. I just like the idea
of cassettes and like, okay, we're going to do
like a little, like a, you know, the bat and,
uh, you know, some smaller things. And then they're
like, let's, let's get creative here. Let's make
a T -Rex out of a cassette. The cat, the bat
and the dinosaur. That scale doesn't seem to
work out, right? Well, Ratbat, I don't mind Ratbat.
I actually like Ratbat. No, I'm talking about
Overkill and Slugfest because they're a T -Rex
and a Stegosaurus or whatever. I like those guys.
Soundwave has dino butts inside of him. Anyways,
why did you pick Soundwave? Soundwave was always
my favorite character, just the kind of character
as a kid. He was always the toy I always wanted
but never had. Hmm thought everyone had a sound
wave. He was like the most ubiquitous guy. I
had the real one. It was called a Sony Walkman
I had blaster in his cassettes I had I had the
welfare sound wave which was yeah, it was like
the You mean you had the animated sound wave
because that's pretty much a no Well back in
1984, right? Radio Shack made something called
like the sound man. Oh Jesus Oh was horrible.
It was it was like on par with a blaster except
it started off looking like a sound wave and
then when you actually started to pull it apart
and transform it it It was it was really bad
It made the ch -ch -ch -ch -ch garbage. No, no.
It didn't transform. It turned into something
bipedal. But it wasn't Soundwave. It was like,
everyone's like, look, I got the Soundwave, I
got the Soundwave. And I'm like, I got a Soundman.
And they're like, ha ha, you're poor. Terrible.
My best friend at the time when I was a kid,
we... I don't know why, honestly, I never could
find a Soundwave or never got one or whatever
else, but I had Blaster in his cassettes and
he had Soundwave in his cassettes, so we would
basically be playing Autobots versus Decepticons.
But I always liked Soundwave's voice, even though
it is Dr. Claw with a vocoder, it's still awesome.
And I just liked the fact that they were using
something that was technology of the now. I mean,
a cassette player and a cartoon, that was just
awesome. Steve, you're number three. You're just
picking all the Scott McNeil voices. Yeah, I
couldn't help myself. I don't blame you. I did
this one because I can do the voice. And I met
the man and he did Waspinator and the other three.
And also because he's comedic relief. Usually
udders g1 references whenever he has a problem
Like one car one car, you know, which would actually
wasn't g1. I was a fan but the same And then
yeah, he was possessed by Starscream So by proxy
that makes him cooler already that was by far
the creepiest Starscream ever I know, I know.
Yeah, Waspinator was always awesome. I love the
varying ways they were able to destroy Waspinator.
Let me count the ways. Yes. Hell, we can just
have a countdown on that. Oh my god. He was shredded,
blown up, turned into a cube. Yup. Kev, what
is your number three? Alrighty then, I know since
I put Optimus Prime at number five, I will again
get hate mail for putting this guy at number
three because that's probably a crime in some
circles to rank this guy higher than Optimus
Prime, but I actually really liked him and it's
not Rodimus Prime. My number three would be a
G1 Ultra Magnus. I just, as a kid, really liked
Ultra Magnus. I don't know if it was Robert Stack
and his voice from the movie. I think a lot of
it had to do with just his design and how he
looked. I don't know, I just liked Ultra Magnus
as his whole presence. I could honestly take
Ultra Magnus in a variety of different shows
I've liked him. I even somewhat liked him in
animated. Liked him in prime, but if I had to
choose it's the g1 version I kind of liked some
of those movie characters like Springer and I
liked ultra Magnus so ultra Magnus number three
sent hate mail to optimus solo Ultra Magnus and
g1 I did like him. I liked him in the movie I
thought it was interesting that they got the
unsolved mysteries guy to do his voice um, but
really I think I Like, I do enjoy Robert Stack
as Ultra Magnus in the movie, but honestly...
How cool would it have been, though, if Ultra
Magnus was the one instead of Rodinus Prime?
No, that would never have worked. That would
have been awesome. How much cooler would that
have been? Ultra Prime, Ultra Magnus Prime? No,
that would have never worked. They could have
just taken his armor off. And look, he's Prime
already! He's just got a different color. The
toy looks the same color. There you go! First
ever repaint. I almost like Jack Angel in season
3 a little bit better as the voice of Walter
Magnus. No disrespect to Robert Stack, I loved
him in the movie, but Jack Angel in season 3
I thought was a good play -on for Dick Gaudier's
Rodimus, because they changed the voice actors
for both of them. Before I get hate mail, I know
the Seekers were the first repaints. Continue.
Michael, you're number three. G1 Starscream.
We're going, you know, back to the original old
school. And I know I already chose a Starscream,
but that was our modest Starscream. Completely
different guy. You know, if you look at, let's
say, Prime Starscream or Animated Starscream,
you know, arguably, they're all just reiterations
of G1 Starscream. except you when Starscream
was the first and and again, you can't argue
with Chris Lada who's also the voice of Cobra
commander and You know if you watch Transformers
at that time you also had to watch GI Joe This
is how it works, especially in the third season
You know when you had old snake Because You know,
Cobra Commander was actually on the Transformers.
Yep. Good stuff. If only Cobra Commander showed
up in mask, that would make that show so much
better than what it actually is. All right. My
number three is R .C. from Transformers Prime.
From Transformers Prime. Let me finish this fucking
sentence before you go ahead and rip me apart.
RC in Transformers Prime was kick -ass. She referenced
the G1 counterpart by saying, if you reverse
my colors, I'd be pink. She kicked ass and took
names. It was just an overall very well done
character, and Simile Montano came up with a
great voice for her. Right. She had a very, you
know, you guys talk about Black Arachnia having
a really deep story arc in Beast Wars and Beast
Machines. R .C. through all three seasons. I
mean, we saw a lot of her. And she actually starts
the prequel comic, because it's her and Cliffjumper
on Cybertron in the IDW prequel comic. As you're
reading it, you're hearing Subali. Oh, absolutely.
Yeah, she was wonderful. And as I'm reading it,
I'm also hearing The Rock as Cliffjumper, because
I'm sorry, the one that they got to replace him
in season three or season two just didn't know.
I get it. The Rock is expensive, but still. Didn't
have the same flair. No, he just didn't have
the same flair. Gotcha. But RC, you know, she
taught Jack a lot of lessons. They, you know,
we went through her whole part. You know, she
had two partners that basically died on her watch.
Just a really, really great storyline for RC.
So Steve, your number two. Well, my number two
would be Unit Optimus Primal. Which body cuz
he's got enough of them. I like all three of
them actually till he hit Beast Machines Then
he looks like like a Michael Bay version of a
Beast Wars Okay, I will admit I will admit that
Beast Machines optimal Beast Machines optimus
is kind of bad, but he's not as bad as Michael
Bay. Well, he's got lips The better to kiss you
with. Come here Megatron. Pucker up Megatron.
I'll show you what I've got. Anyways, no I liked
Optimus Primal from the first moment he showed
up because I first, I kind of referenced him
with Optimus Prime to begin with because of the
head. before he got his Transmetal form. And
then as I watched the series and I got to like
him more through like Guerrilla Warfare and various
other episodes like that, and then the aliens,
the various alien incursions, Law of the Jungle,
all these other episodes, and then... You get
into the part where Megatron double -crosses
him and locks him in a stasis pod and then primal
goes boom and then Rhinox Does his voodoo call
and makes primal come back and he comes back
in a new body and That was one of my favorite
episodes for the longest time until he got his
optimal body Where he got some of the inverted
original kind of colors and size and everything
else so But no, I mean he's Been a pretty solid
character as far as the Beast Wars are concerned
Mm -hmm. I'll buy that for a dollar I'll buy
that for a dollar. Yeah, what's your number two?
My list is so non -traditional You are so non
-traditional. I feel bad because I have a traditional
list and I'm like no one's choosing the same
things I got, yeah? No, it's good that some people
choose what everyone wants us to choose. I guess
my favorite Autobot in all of G1 Not necessarily
because of the voice I'm not necessarily a huge
fan of the guy but it fit with this character
and for some reason I know everybody always loved
Bumblebee but myself personally I always loved
Cliffjumper So G1 Cliffjumper was probably my
favorite Autobot in that entire series Don't
ask me why but I just liked him ten times better
than Bumblebee Rest in peace Casey Kasem Exactly
So I know no one else will pick it so I wanted
to have a quick chopper mention. We hope they
find your body. What's that? Christ man. Well,
it's true. Stop talking about my dead body, Michael
Blyndrum. It's terrible. I'm being buried in
Norway. Right. It was like two weeks ago. The
guy had died. It was too soon. Too soon. Too
soon. No, it's not too soon. No, he died a month
ago and now he's being hauled around the world
on his death tour. Cliffjumper world tour. Where's
Carbamia when you need it? You're carting him
around like Stalin. This is terrible. Michael,
you're number two. G1 Megatron now I've heard
some some persuasive arguments during the show
about why other Versions of Megatron are better
and you know, I'm on the fence I'm not I'm not
prepared to to back up my decision here other
than the fact that when I was young That was
my Megatron Frank Walker actually had gravel
back then when he when he was young, right? And
and when I hear Megatron now, it's like I do
like the way he's written I I like the fact that
Frank Walker is trying to do that that same voice,
but it's not the same voice Just not the same
and the Megatron of old just had just the craziest
schemes, you know, or you know, it just just
weird 1980s storylines that would never play
nowadays and Starscream come over here and wax
my keister You're an idiot Starscream. I'm an
idiot. I'm an idiot but Just things that Really
just endeared that character to me You know when
I think of Just like my all -time favorite villains
g1 Megatron always comes to mind Contest so It
was one of the worst toys for children though
All kids all I want to say all kids, but all
little boys have toy guns Not shoot your eye
out even now. Well, they are not as realistic
as me I mean Megatron was Realistically looking
like a gun was a leader awesome. Yeah. No, he
was he was awesome. But you know, he's very Japanese
in that sense Yeah, I don't think they're fun.
I got a real one Yeah, I don't think other toy
lines had a realistic Walther p38, you know and
they're in their line The two times that Megatron
was the most hilarious for me from G1 is in the
episode Microbots when they get drunk on energon.
And when he tells Starscream, enough with the
scientific gobbledygook Starscream. I'm thinking,
what the hell is scientific gobbledygook? I don't
think I've heard any voice actor ever say that
in another Transformers cartoon series. That's
right. Goblegoo Starscream, this is bad. Bad
something. Yeah, I had something. It's my medicine.
Bad medicine is what I need. Whoa, shake it up.
My number two is Cheetor, specifically Beast
Machines, but I do like his overall progression
through basically... preteen through teen years
into adulthood. Are you cheating again? No, I'm
not. I said Beast Machines. I said Beast Machines
and I started when he was a wee tot on the Axelon.
Well, no, because he was... I don't know. I'd
say when he was in his original form, he was
probably... 13 14 by the time he got Transmetal
1 15 and Transmetal 2 is at least 17 18. No The
original 11 the next one's like 13 and then the
next was 15 because this horny toad is going
off When he got the beast machines he just became
a lot more badass and he was really really cool
that was when he hit 18 So yeah Cheetor has always
been one of my favorites and he comes in at number
two now We're getting to my favorite part because
I'm I predicted all of your number ones before
we started and I am and None of you have eliminated
them yet Awesome. Well done sir Sorry continue
You don't know you don't know me Steve what is
your number one? My number one is... G1 Megatron.
No. My number one is G1 Scourge. Oh, wait. No,
it's not. What? It's... You know what your number
one is. Don't make me say it. Ah, yes. Beast
Wars Megatron. There you go. Obviously, it's
my favorite character because I can hear the
voice, but I also like... I like the fact that
Megatron just his entire appearance the way he
carries himself His penchant for intelligent
conversation by talking to himself The fact he
has a rubber ducky Brushes his dinosaur teeth.
He's got a hot tub. Yeah, he has a trophy room
In an episode It's an awesome incarnation of
the character Yeah, I just I love everything
about him and he's Cold calculating, but he's
also He likes to gamble Which is kind of a nice
thing with a Megatron he he leaves most things
You know very certain but some things he leaves
to chance and hopes that it lands in his favor
and then the fact that he controlled and unkillable
transformer by crushing his heart and cutting
it out of his chest. It's pretty awesome. And
he took over the Decepticon warship. And if it
weren't for the fact that he has this infatuation
with Dinobot, he probably would have succeeded.
Yep. Because he brought back Dinobot and Dinobot
after Rampage died. Well, we know what happens
there. Traitor. Alright Kev, what is your number
one? Alright, once again, this is so hard to
choose which version because I've never really
had too many versions of this character that
I haven't liked. Prime version was... I really
want to go with the Prime version but I can't
in all fairness pick a Prime version as my number
one character of all time because I have to pick
a G1 character as my number one character of
all time. So even though the Prime version is
totally kick -ass and awesome and hard to beat,
I will go with the G1 version of Soundwave. It's
my favorite Decepticon in all... Variations of
Transformers franchise shows movies games, whatever
Soundwave is my favorite Decepticon The voice
was awesome with the vocoder. He has cassettes
that came out of him. He Was a man of very few
words, but when he did talk it was important
and I love that about a character And I just
can't say enough good things about Soundwave
the toy was cool The character was cool. The
prime version was cool. The g1 character was
cool. Soundwave is awesome Soundwave superior
The notice that he didn't just group all of the
cassettes in with him Michael your number one
my number one is g1 optimus prime And to everyone
who did not pick g1 optimus prime is their number
one your opinion is wrong Blanchard is used to
having a wrong opinion. He can't help it So yeah
Peter Cullen and arguably his his best role at
the best time of that character and he was a
role model for the 80s. I hear a lot of people
who say, oh, you know, I was a latchkey kid and
Optimus Prime, you know, was like a surrogate
father, he raised me. And I can't exactly relate
with that. I can't really relate to that so much,
but I did love the character and... That's why
he's he's number one. He had an awesome toy.
I owned that toy I was really excited to get
enough from his prime when I was little And I
just played played with it until it damn near
all the stickers fell off See I don't remember
Transformers being on in the afternoon after
school. I remember him being on the morning That
was later on that wasn't in the first round the
first one was afternoon I know what you're talking
about when it was on the morning, but that was
later on I'm talking like 85 86. They were ran
in the morning. Mm -hmm at least where I live
they were could be All right, so Anybody care
to guess because we all know what it is, right?
No Springer He only had five seconds of actual
audio in Transformers Animated, so I'm not going
to count that, even though Judd Nelson did return
to voice the character. Wheely? No, if Spada
was here, maybe Spada would have Wheely as his
number one. No, G1 Hot Rod slash Rodimus Prime.
Oh, shut up. At least it's a G1 character, at
least I didn't say, oh yay, it's Sari from Animated.
At least you didn't. Because I would have won
that shit insane. Terastrog, I love you. Sari's
the best. I absolutely love Hot Rod Rodimus Prime.
I think he got a raw deal because he got to be
leader for all of five seconds or less. He was
an ass leader? He didn't really get to lead I
mean that's like if they only gave Obama a year
cuz he couldn't handle leadership, but he killed
himself He didn't kill when did he kill himself?
He had to go back into the matrix to talk with
the past leaders, and he did so by killing himself
He reached into his chest and unplugged some
shit, and he died no no he didn't kill himself
michael he made himself unconscious he gave himself
an out -of -body experience and if that's not
killing yourself i don't know what of anyway
um all right so those are all our number ones
those are our top 10 got some stats for you all
right okay all right so we picked uh we picked
uh 21 autobots and 19 decepticons Pretty darn
close. Finally, the Autobots actually win at
something. We had 21 characters from G1, followed
with nine characters from Beast Wars, thanks
to the six that appeared on Steve's list. So
nine for Beast Wars would be the second most.
Five from Animated, thanks to Mr. Wilson and
both mics. Three from Transformers Prime, one
from Beast Machines, and one from the Unicron
trilogy. If you want to take all the different
versions and put them all into one I guess we
had five megatrons and five optimus primes Three
star screams three black arachneas two jazz's
two sound waves and two cheetahs Thanks Awesome,
who knew black arachnea would be the only other
person to get three besides Starscream megatron
and optimus prime I'm really surprised no one
picked arachnid from prime I was really surprised
that there's more characters from animated than
there are from Prime. I'm just kidding. I'm not
surprised at all. But you did throw me off because
you did not have a single Starscream on your
list, Mike. I debated putting Steve Bloom on
there, but in the end, he just didn't make the
cut. Speaking of things that didn't make the
cut, we're going to take a quick... audio break
and we will come back with some honorable mentions
after this i uh i come in peace you're about
to leave in pieces no need for violence rhinox
i merely wish to talk Maximal fool. He'll soon
regret this impertinence. We Decepticons now
face our darkest hour. Megatron must be stopped,
no matter the cost. Me slag say you full of beryllium
baloney! Me grimlock say you full of cesium salami!
Beryllium baloney! I can't deal with that now!
So it is time for some honorable mentions. How
many honorable mentions do you have, Steve? Ten.
Okay. I have ten too, and the reason I didn't
want to say them at the beginning, because if
we would have mentioned our honorable mentions,
it would have been obvious that they were not
on our actual list, which defeats some of the
mystery about what our list are going to be.
Thank you. Anyway, I just wanted to clear that
up since I got lost in the intro. But I got ten.
Michael how many honorable mentions do you have?
Three Seriously? Let me go back and count. I
like it. No, two. Shorter and sweeter. I have
ten as well. Wow. Why bother coming up with the
top ten list if you're just gonna have another
top ten list? Well, we're not gonna go through
all of these, but I'm just saying that that I
have you know because the One of them, actually,
before the show we said doesn't count. The only
reason why I want to bring him up is because
it's interesting who they had voice him, Jazz
from the Michael Bay movies, because they had
Darius McCrary, Eddie from Family Matters with
Urkel as the voice of Jazz. Ed, Edd, and Eddie.
So wrong. Swindle from Animated, he's just awesome.
We've talked about him. I really liked how they
developed Miko in Prime, and she's a much better
female human character than Sari could ever be.
Oh, those fighting words. The clones from Animated,
they were awesome. Don't listen to him, Tara.
Don't listen. He knows not what he speaks. Shut
the hell up. The Starscream clones, because they
made them look like, uh... All the other Seeker
jets, those were awesome. Rat Trap from Beast
Machines specifically, I liked him turning dark.
I liked the episode where he actually went to
Megatron. I thought that was an interesting character
turn for him. And Silverbolt from Beast Machines.
I loved Silverbolt when he went to the Dark Knight.
The comedy stuff in Beast Wars is alright, but
I needed something different, and I'm very happy
with where they went with him in Beast Machines.
And the other one that I'll mention is Bulkhead
from Prime. I loved Kevin Michael Richardson
as Bulkhead. That was the best Bulkhead out of
the two that we have. Kev, which ones do you
want to talk about? Well, I'm going to expand
it, obviously. Since I gave you my ten, I have
ten other ones. Don't hold your breath, though.
I will not say the word animated anywhere in
this. I actually considered Jazz. You all know
you paid it. I considered the animated version
of Jazz, actually. That was the one that I was
closest to putting on my list. The two that got
knocked out because of my inclusion of Optimus
Prime and Megatron would have been Mirage and
Prowl from G1. Two more of my favorite characters.
As far as Prime goes, some characters that I
really liked. Knockout. I think he added a lot
to that show, was kind of unique with that. I
didn't mind Smokescreen from Transformers Prime
or the Shockwave version, or the Transformers
Prime version of Shockwave. Real close to making
the list from Beast Wars was Tarantulas. We didn't
really mention him, although I guess we kind
of mentioned him when we were talking about Blackarachnia,
but I think he was a kick -ass character. Like
Sideswipe, I like Galvatron and Cyclonus. for
a complete unknown I'll throw in Beachcomber
he was cool yeah and I somewhat liked Skywarp
the idea of Skywarp and Thundercracker I just
don't think they've ever been executed correctly
so G1 they were pretty much yeah that would be
the version I'd go with I guess but yeah so those
are the ones that I liked it didn't make quite
make the cut what about you Michael I would say
There was a couple from Beast Wars that I would
have included. I'm just gonna say Scott McNeil.
I really liked Waspinator. I really liked Dinobot.
I really like Rattrap. I thought about Dinobot
too. Yeah, and any of those three really, you
know, should have made the cut. I couldn't choose.
It was really hard. I think I'm the only one
that finds Rattrap annoying. Well, I mean that's
part of this, you know charm though, I guess
yeah He's kind of offensive kind of annoying,
you know, but at the same time he's flawed and
he feels bad about it You know, he wants to be
better From prime I like Starscream but not more
than g1 Starscream Prime Starscream is kind of
like g1 Starscream with lot more to Steve Bloom
Which arguably is awesome because I really like
Steve Bloom But I gotta I gotta go with g1 Starscream
and I also wanted to throw in Armada Starscream
in there again different character Different
guy what you threw those those are in your top
ten Armada Starscream and g1 Starscream are both
in my top ten, but yeah honorable mentions I'm
saying Prime Starscream is in my honorable mention.
He's a Starscream fan is what he's saying. Yeah,
I couldn't put him in with the rest because I
already had two in my top 10 list. Right. And
then the other one from Prime would be RC. And
again, for what, what, what you said. Sumali
is awesome. She's She's just fantastic, and she
did a really good job with that character. The
writers did a decent job with the character.
I can't often compliment the writers of Prime,
but I really enjoyed the way they handled that
particular character. You can't often compliment
them, but you can often insult them on Facebook.
I'm gonna go on mute so that I don't go down
a right hole here. Alright, that's all I got.
I mean, besides Monk of Spanka... who has the
best name in Transformers fiction uh and honestly
I thought I for some reason I thought Monka Spanka
was the little rodent that that created Unicron
in the third season uh but that's a different
guy uh Monka Spanka according to the wiki is
um uh is Jazz Jazz the monkey spanker But uh,
but I remember in tfg1 the podcast we had so
much fun with that particular episode because
it's like monkey spanker His name was monkey
spanker and they got away with it I don't even
remember which episode that was of the show.
It was uh, the first the first episode of um,
five faces of darkness Oh Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,
we had a lot of fun with that Steve your honorable
mentions I had Transformers Prime, Ratchet and
Optimus, just because I liked the characters.
I had G1, Megatron, Galvatron, Wheeljack, Soundwave,
and Scourge. I like all those characters. Beast
Wars, I had Dinobot and Tarantulas. Yeah, you
know one of the reasons why Miko made my honorable
mentions is because of what they did in chain
of command like I don't think I've Really had
a slack -jaw moment with a lot of homages over
the years But the fact that they basically homage
the old exo suit as the apex armor with when
she puts that on that was so awesome I didn't
like that A lot of things about prime. No, I
mean honestly She this particular character has
spent several seasons tripping over things and
attracting the attention of the bad guys and
every time Bulkhead says no don't do that because
you're gonna get us in trouble. She just runs
in and trips over herself and no look we're in
trouble now Suddenly she puts on this exosuit
and she becomes a ninja I'm calling bullshit
Just, it was too convenient. Don't like it. Do
not like. Any, uh, any other - We're gonna have
to do a wars episode of Prime vs. Animated. No
contest. No contest. Yeah. Michael said no contest.
He'll be the only one voting for Animated though,
so that's alright. What? Michael, back me up.
Well, you know what that means Mike who has a
history of having the wrong opinion Jackasses
any other final words relevant to this countdown?
Transformers characters. They're fun to talk
about. Yeah. Yeah, this is fun. I was like that's
