All Things Transformers
BotCon 2012 Preparations and Transformers Prime Discussion

About this Episode
You're listening to all things transformers version
2 .0 breakdown I know we've never seen eyes to
eye but that doesn't mean we can't patch things
up hello and welcome to all things transformers
version 2 .0 episode 23 I'm your host Steve Megatron
Phillips joining me in this episode is DFT on
Mike all right I'm Kelly hello welcome aboard
Would be up with all you today Do we really need
Steve the pie right here tonight? I don't think
so. This is not dodgeball the underdog story
because she driving me nuts Breakdowns I patch
Breakout breakdowns I patch I'm sorry. We are
not seeing eyes to I Oh, shut up. It was a good
line. Did anybody sense a little bit of corniness
there? That was a fantastically good line, but
man. So, Mariah and Callie are in BotCon mode
because this will be the last episode before
BotCon 2012. Yes. I'm so nervous. I'm so damn
nervous. I mean, come on, I've got like nine
left. And that doesn't fill me with a whole lot
of confidence when I've just got a half -built
robot sitting in my closet. Now granted, Breakdown
has been shoved into boxes and has been put in
the mail, which makes me nervous as fuck. And
I won't Stop being nervous until I realize that
he's safe in my best friend's arms on Thursday
To be honest alright I have no idea why you just
didn't get the an extra suitcase for the parts
and just paid because First off I don't trust
TSA. They're fucking assholes with luggage. I
don't trust them at all Secondly it would have
to be a really big ass suitcase to fit all these
pieces Yeah That's what I'm doing with my Puggles.
I'm putting them in one giant suitcase for a
carry -on. You want me to put Breakdown in a
carry -on? What are you crazy? You think that'd
fit? Breakdown would not fit in a carry -on,
Callie. I don't know. Carry -on to be really
small suitcases like backpacks and then like
a personal item like a purse or... laptop bag,
not a gigantic suitcase that's gonna take up
like four seats just by itself. Or a shovel.
And I've been getting a lot of podcasting done
this week. I think this this week coming up will
be my busiest podcasting week that I've ever
had in four years of even doing podcasting. I
have records. Every night this week I have...
You sound happy. Huh? You sound like you're about
to fall asleep, Mike. Well, no, I'm not about
to fall asleep, it is like... What have I gotten
myself into tonight? I've got two records this
one and another one later tomorrow night I've
got a record Wednesday night. I've got an interview
Thursday night. I have got four podcasts to record
in one night and then Friday night I have another
interview and another podcast to record and then
Saturday. I have two more podcasts to record
so Yeah Yeah So good, man I've prided myself
in the last four years that I have never lost
my voice in podcasting as far as, you know, just
not being able to talk, but after this week,
I might lose my voice. What were you gonna say,
Mariah? No, I'll shut up. Nobody needs to hear
me talk. No, what were you gonna say? No, I'm
just gonna say that I will be... I will be very
much so mute very soon, but that's a common convention
thing, either from the convention sitting because
everyone's in a confined space or just because
I'm trying to shout at my friends and shout at
people around me and trying to keep everybody
in line because I like organization for some
weird -ass reason, and then I go deaf. Yeah,
or rather mute not deaf. Well, I probably get
it Well, I'm probably gonna be deaf after the
casino night and Hall of Fame thing depending
on how that goes Well, maybe not So Cali completed
her goal of 100 Puggles and a come in a smattering
of hatchlings More than a dozen I know that yeah
What have you been up to, Steve? Besides podcasting,
because I've had quite a bit of that lately,
little minor tweaks and whatnot to the website.
I've also been practicing various voices going
into particular shows' voicemail lines that are
associated with us. and then hearing my voice
reiterated on there, which has been quite fun.
I've also, because people seem to be getting
laid off left and right at my job, been looking
for a secondary job. So, yes. Our feedback line
that we now have. And we actually did get listener
feedback. Yes, very very awesome This is from
Cass in Illinois Hello guys, I wanted to send
an email to thank you for all the great transformers
podcasts I decided to start listening to your
podcast that covered all the g1 episodes after
getting through all of those in a couple of weeks
Wow 24 episodes in a couple of weeks I started
to listen to your All Things Transformers podcast.
I started with the ones where you begin covering
the Transformers Prime episodes. I haven't caught
up on all of them. I've watched about the first
20 episodes. Anyway, you guys have inspired me
to start collecting some TF Prime figures. The
only other TF figures I have are the Rivaltech
line, Optimus, Megatron, Starscream, and Rodimus.
Now I plan on getting the entire second line
of TF Prime figures. Thanks for rekindling my
love of Transformers as my friends here don't
collect figures or watch the show. Keep up the
great podcast and sorry for the long -winded
email. Well, it wasn't too long -winded From
Cass. Thank you very much, sir The only reason
why I know Cass is a male is because he is a
fan of us on on Facebook Keep a very close eye
on your bank account good sir plastic crack is
addicting For a second there, I thought you were
going to mention the club, but thank God you
didn't. No, no. Kale Stick Crack is addicting.
Be careful. Yes. Yes. Yes, so thank you for sending
that great feedback. And of course, we encourage
more of that from everyone that listens to the
show. And the easiest way to do it is feedback
at geekcastradio .com. Yes, I know the email
account has changed like twice since the show's
iteration, but this is the permanent email address,
I promise you. Yeah, this is the email address
that all of us moderators have access to and
stuff like that. It's permanent until the next
time we change it. No, there will be no change.
This is it. No, this is good. It's golden now.
It's not changing ever again. Yes. Yes, with
that, we will be right back after this commercial
break with the news! Don't have Stitcher? Download
it for free today using promo code KEYCASTRADIO
at stitcher .com slash keycastradio or in the
app stores. Stitcher Smart Radio, the smarter
way to listen to radio. Yes, we have. The biggest
part of the news is what was just announced today,
I believe. The BotCon 2012 schedule is up. Uh,
yeah. Outside of, at least for me personally...
It's five days. Yeah, it's five days, but for
me personally, the only thing that interests
me is the panels and the autograph signings.
Uh, the rest of it, I just don't care. I don't
care when the dealer room opens because I would
never ever go to the dealer room because everything
there is too goddamn expensive. You abandoned
us! Wait, you're in Artist Alley, aren't you?
It's in the same room. Oh. Okay, well... The
artists. OK. In general, on years that Kelly
is not going to be selling Puggles at BotCon,
is what I mean. The general dealer room, when
you look at a G1 AstroTrain from 86, and it's
like $300, and I'm like, why is this three? I'm
just using AstroTrain as an example. I've said
on Twitter, if I was going this year, I would
go for the panels, I would go for the autograph
sessions, and I would go to, essentially, steal
the Puggleformer tub. Well, and this is the general
way that you have to look at it from any standpoint,
and anyone that goes to any convention will tell
you this. Generation 1 toys are stupid -ass expensive,
right? Oh, I know that, though. Well, but no,
no, here. Generation 1 toys, stupid -ass... It's
expensive. Mainline toys that just got released
are going to have a huge premium on them because,
dude, everybody wants them. So the dealers are
going to charge $30 for a knockout, right? So
you don't want to do that. And then the toys
in the middle, you either already have or don't
care about. I personally, since the third parties
aren't going to be there, the dealer haul vastly
disinterests me. The only thing that I'd be going
in there for is to maybe find a couple more Sky
Warps, because I'm obsessed with Sky Warp, or
find a Knockout, because I probably will end
up buying Knockout there, even though he's gonna
be like $30, $40. That's probably the only thing
I'm really going to buy. Other than that, I'm
gonna hover my ass around the Hasbro booth, because...
I freaking love Bill Raleigh and then I'm gonna
mingle with with the the artists and then hover
around Callie's table protecting her Puggles
when she needs to go off and do her own little
businesses stuff Other than that Now are you
going to be in costume when you're protecting
the table? I don't believe so because Throughout
my costuming experience, especially when it's
a giant robot at a giant robot convention, you
get fucking mobbed. The last thing that I want
is to be standing in front of Callie's table
and protecting her puggles and have everybody
and their mother come up and try to take pictures
of me right in front of her table and block her
sales. You want to be looming over customers
going grrrr. I will gladly stand behind your
table and look menacing if there's enough space.
However, judging by bot cons in the past, it's
probably not going to be all that Much space
back there. So the most obvious you guys get
a couple of pictures at the table. That's fine
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, it'll be so many pictures
I'm thinking of getting a new card for my camera
just to fit maybe but I have like I have like
four cards I have four memory cards, two are
for my video camera, two are for my regular camera.
And then I'm offloading all those pictures every
single night, pictures and video every single
night onto my computer so that I have more space.
Awesome. Yeah, the schedule this year, it's five
days. The first two days is mostly customizing
classes and picking up your packages, right?
Yes, that's the way it works every single year.
Wednesday is always custom classes. There's really
nothing more to that. That's also when the customizers
that go to the Wednesday class are able to pick
up their box sets. Thursday is when the majority
of us are going to be doing our standing in line
for four hours to stand in line for two hours
to get Toys to then shift over to another line
to stand in line for another two hours to get
more toys. Because that's just generally how
it works. Thursday is the day that you really
want to just do all of that line stuff to get
it out of the way and in the back of your mind.
So that when Friday rolls around you can kind
of start mingling with your friends and start
attending some of the panels that are out there.
The line is going to be huge on Thursday? The
line is... Typically it depends on how long it
runs. 2010, the line to pick up box sets ran
insanely short. It was really short. Like, in
and out, boom, like three hours. Tops. What was
last year like? Last year was absolute hell.
because for whatever reason, it doesn't really
help that the people up front that are working
with the registration and handing out boxes and
everything, they're not really a fan of Transformers.
They're not really, they don't know what this
is. A lot of the people that work up there actually
are from Pete Sinclair's church and they're doing
this as a volunteer little thing for their church,
like community service hours. If they're they
don't really some of them don't even necessarily
I don't think know how all this works At least
the lady that we had last year the lady that
we had was just infuriating and I wanted to strangle
her Because I sat in line for like four hours
it granted in a wheelchair so I didn't have to
like stand but yeah It was still I had to it
was still being in line for like four hours as
I went to the room at like six o 'clock Then
my friend's time came up at the clock. I saw
her pass by me all the way up front At her eight
o 'clock time well not when I went in at six,
and I didn't move literally did not move from
that spot Yeah, so I Thursday is very much so
line after line after line, and you're gonna
be standing in line for at least At least five
or six hours Yeah, and then Friday, there's a
couple of panels There's a couple of panels on
Friday the MSTF panel the Transformers Film Fest
panel TCC comic panel and then two autograph
sessions David Kaye Gary Chuck Simon Furman and
then Dan Gilvazan and Buster Jones I like, at
least on Friday, how they're scheduling the autograph
sessions back to back. The David Kaye, Gary Chalk,
Simon Furman ones from 2 to 3 .30 and then the
Dan Gilva's and Buster Jones ones is 3 .30 to
5. So that's good scheduling. They're really
good about that, which is fantastic. I myself
am not going to be participating in the autograph
lines because I don't... really want to stand
in line for three hours just to have someone
scribble on a piece of paper for me. I would
much rather go, oh, hi, you're Dan Gilbazan.
Give me your signature and then I'll run away
so nobody else sees you. So you can go do your
business, I can go do mine. Yes. Panels on Saturday.
We've got Dan Gilbazan, Buster Jones from 101050.
Another autograph session with David Can, Gary
Chalk from 10 to 1130. Transformers Comics IDW
panel from 11 to 1150. Animated Talk with Derek
J. Wyatt from noon to 1250. Dan Gilva's Anabuster
Jones Simon Furman autographs from noon to 1
30. David K. Garychuk panel from 1 to 1 50. Peter
Cullen autographs. I think that's the only part
that he's actually gonna be at is doing an autograph
session. at least according to the schedule.
Collectors Club Roundtable TCC staff from 2 to
2 .50 on Saturday. Hasbro Transformers brand
team panel from 3 to 3 .50. Oh, okay, well Peter
is doing a panel. Well that's good. 4 to 4 .50
on Saturday. Peter Cullen panel. Cocktail reception
from 6 .30 to 7. And then 7 is the Hall of Fame
party and casino night dinner on Saturday. So
Saturday is a full day for those that want to
attend panels and stuff like that. Saturday is
the big walk -in day, both Saturday and Sunday
are. Yeah. Saturday tends to be the really full
one because that's when all the walk -ins come
in and as far as I know, I believe they can participate
in the panels. So they try to schedule a lot
of them then. Yeah. From on Sunday... the biggest
thing starting off is from 10 to 1050 panel be
in the city too featuring david k gary chock
and gilvazan buster jones uh... and then we've
got some more david k gary chock simon firman
autograph session from 1130 to 1 uh... 11 to
1150 on sunday is the activision fall of cybertron
panel uh... noon to 1250 is the simon firman
panel More autographs from 1 to 2 .30 with Dan
and Dan Gillis and a Buster Jones the Jagex Transformers
universe panel from 1 to 1 .50 on Sunday And
then the last panel of the weekend is the Transformers
costuming design your own costume from 2 to 2
.50 and Then it's from 3 .50 3 .15 to 3 .30 is
the draw trips to the 2013 convention And then,
of course, 3 .30 Sunday afternoon, the show closes.
And that is your BotCon 2012 schedule. Yay. I'm
mildly sad that the script reading got shoved
all the way to Sunday. Yeah. Because it's usually
on Fridays. I'm actually pretty happy. This works
out for me wonderfully. Well, it works out for
me fine. I'm going to see it Saturday or Sunday,
regardless. Cause I love the scriptwriting, but
last year I believe it was, it was either, it
was either early Friday or early Saturday last
year. And that was a good time for it to happen.
Cause then a lot of the, I mean a lot of the
walk -ins are still there. And I don't know if
they actually are interested in seeing that.
I'm pretty sure they're much more interested.
Oh, shiny toys! I'm mildly sad that there's no
costume contest thing like... BotCon Twitter
had hinted about. However, I had some people
bug the crap out of BotCon about it because I
can't. Being blocked is a lot of fun, by the
way. And they said that information about it
is going to go up tomorrow through the TFCC.
and the bot on Twitter. So I'm excited to see
what's going on. I will be mildly irritated if
it's during casino night because I have a very
pretty dress that I'd like to wear for casino
night because I'm supposed to be dressing up.
It's a casual event. And as much as I would adore
to wear a breakdown, I probably will anyway if
they end up doing that. I'm also not really going
to look forward to not being able to sit down
for five hours. The next bit of news also ties
into the schedule is the but con 2012 script
reading the B goes back to the city being the
city to Where Steve will like well, I won't wait
because I won't be there. Well, you don't like
it, but Video I'm sure someone will take a video
and put it up on YouTube of the panel, but I
I don't know, I guess I missed the whole original
Be in the City thing. Apparently, um, Optimus
Bumblebee and, sorry, get thrown into the TransTech
universe with Beast Wars, Megatron, Flare Up,
and TransTech Shockwave. Shockwave? Yeah. Seems
kind of random. It shouldn't, because he's been
in the last, like, five series, but still, kind
of random. He's been in the TransTech line. And
then, of course, as we already mentioned in the
schedule, Derek J. Wyatt will be attending and
doing his own panel this year as well. As will
Peter Cullen. I'm actually surprised that Peter
is going this year. It's not a movie year. Well,
it's not that. It's just that the convention
isn't in California. Three Optimist Prime voice
actors this year. Yes. That's kind of funny,
actually. And then, of course, as I, you know...
Oh yeah, Steve, you want to take that next bit
of guest news? Yes. Transformers voice actor
Scott McNeil to attend TFCon 2012. Oh, that's
the TFCon news. Oops. I thought he was... Ooh,
boy. Way to go, dude. Yeah, I missed it. No,
I knew in the back of my mind, but I wasn't really
thinking. Something's wrong here, and I'm not
sure what it is. If I get this magical job, then...
Yeah, I'm going yeah awesome cuz uh yeah, I really
want to go Yes, hi anyways this one is the 11th
Canadian Transformers Collectors Convention,
which is July 27th to the 29th 2012 at the Delta
Metal Veil Resort and Conference Center And I
don't know how to say that name of the city so
I'm not It's Mississauga, Ontario. Yes, thank
you. Anyways, it will have Scott McNeil, the
voice of Waspinator, Dinobot, Rectrap, Silverbolt,
and Beast Wars. Yes. And his various other characters
in Armada, Energon, Cybertron, which I just don't
care about those shows, so they don't matter.
He will be taking part in a Q &A panel and autograph
session with the attendees. So yeah, I'm hopefully
going to get to go because that would be kick
-ass. Yes, you need to go. You can send donations
too. Read back at GeekCastRadio .com Steve at
GeekCastRadio .com, that's where my paypal accounts.
Oh wow, that's funny. And then heading on over
to video game news, follow CybertronSludge's
robot mode has been revealed. I cannot wait for
Fall of Cybertron. This game looks so badass.
Thoughts? It looks amazing and I cannot wait
to go ahead and kick ass with Grimlock because
that's freaking amazing. I've wanted with every
fiber of my being. There needs to be a, uh, because
I'm looking at the next one that they revealed,
uh, Snarl. The concept art for Snarl is revealed.
There needs to be a Puggle Snarl now. Oh. Hee
hee hee. What do you mean, no? Yeah. Talk to
me in a moment. Ha ha. I'm not saying I want
it, I'm just saying... ...at some point it should
be done, because essentially Snarl, at least
looking at his, um... uh alt mode it's he's a
stegosaurus so essentially he's like your stegopuggle
you've done a couple times but no all of all
of the character designs from both war and and
fall of cybertron have always looked just amazing
steve any thoughts um i just can't wait to see
what they do with the second game being that
the first game was so well received yeah i just
i very much look forward to it and the fact that
i have a Xbox 360 this time I can actually buy
it for the 360 and play it on there So I'm kind
of geeked about that because I had to play the
other one on the PC and It wasn't quite as much
fun Playing on the PC wasn't that bad. It was
better than the other movie games. I will agree.
I will agree the movie game blow But that's because
they have time constraints Yes, yes, that's true
So jumping over to the last bit of Transformers
video game Sorry about my Skype noise, it's going
off. I don't know how to shut it off. It's okay.
It's okay. There's the Transformers Universe
Exclusive Reserve, your in -game Transformers
name at BotCon 2012. Yes, that's the Jagex that's
making the Transformers MMO universe, lets you
sign up apparently at BotCon for your character
name. Yeah. It should be very interesting. I
can't wait to see how that plays out, being that
I've played recently several other MMOs such
as World of Warcraft, I've played DC Universe
Online, Star Trek Online. So, I mean, I'm very
interested to see how they do this. I know it's
going to be pay -to -play to begin with because
they all are, which means I'll be waiting a year
to get it. Did you say it was free from the get
-go? I don't know. I heard that it was going
to be free from the get -go, like they've been
making that one of their points, haven't they?
I think so. That was one of their things they
were talking about. I haven't really kept much
tabs on it, so that didn't really help. I'll
look into it, but if that's the case, I will
get my hands on this. I have an interesting thing
with the Jagex thing going on. I went to New
York Comic Con, and they were there. And they
actually interviewed me for kind of like two
minutes. They had me on camera and everything
was kind of awesome. But unrelated to that, because
we were in line for such a long time, me and
NitroStreak on Twitter, we were, it was, we were,
like me, NitroStreak, and like a couple hundred
people were waiting online at New York Comic
Con. The line was so long that the employees
for Jagex were going around giving everybody
free Transformers stuff. Cards, giant Transformer
badge things, they were giving out bracelets.
It was kind of awesome. Probably because we're
all indoors and air -conditioned and feeling
OK. It got me on film. They actually asked me
a few questions and things like that. So I'm
going to see if I have all the stuff that they
gave at NYCC. I'm going to just take all that
stuff and see if they remember me. I seriously
doubt it, but I'm kind of excited to see how
that goes out. That's pretty funny. I have the
stuff you gave us! You'd be surprised what people
remember. Oh, yes. Yes. I'm just going to be
the idiot fangirl. Oh, pish. You're not an idiot
fangirl. Yes, and jumping into the 2013 Transformers
Wall calendar, they have sample images of this,
which will be released August 1st of 2012. I
have to say, for it being IDW art, I'm very much
liking the imagery being shown in this. Yeah,
it looks cool. Although Mariah wishes it was
a TF Prime calendar. To some extent, I agree.
I think they should make one for every, like,
they should make a Beast Wars, they should make
a G -Wan, they should make a Transformers Prime.
Not very profitable, though. Well, the only the
only thing that I could think of is I wouldn't
necessarily think of them for making like say
a Beast Wars one or making one for like previous
lines But I could see them making one for G1
because hey, that's the original and most people
like the original I'm not gonna say all because
some just flat -out don't and then one for the
current Hot television show that's on So at this
time, that would be Prime and maybe Rescue Bots,
but more Prime than anything. Like, did we get
an animated one? I think we got an animated one,
or maybe not. I think we did. I think we did.
Might have. I love the January 2013 image. It's
frenzy! Yay, frenzy! Rumble is purple, frenzy
is red. Wait, what's this about? You missed something.
One of them's live, one of them's dead. No, Kali,
we're looking at the calendar for January 2013
for the Transformers calendar, and I said it
was frenzy. Can you give me a link? Our minds
are on BotCon, sorry. So yeah, the calendar looks
really, really cool. So, so far, well did you
have any thoughts on the calendar, Callie, now
that you've seen it? It's very pretty and I require
it on my wall. Moving on to Hezbro Studios bringing
Transformers properties to Netflix. Before I
get into what they are going to be bringing in
the future, they've already brought in Transformers
Prime, G .I. Joe Renegades, and My Little Pony
Friendship is Magic. Later this year, they're
going to be bringing in Transformers Generation
1, Beast Wars, and Rescue Bots as well. This
is awesome. They already have Transformers Prime
and G .I. Joe Renegades on there. That's what
I just said. I know. Shut your face. But no,
that's awesome, because for me, who's someone
who doesn't get the hub, and I don't mind waiting
for stuff to come to Netflix and... I know Rescue
Bots is kind of like the show that they're pimping
for kids. But, you know, I still want to check
it out a little bit, so that'd be kind of cool.
Did you just use the phrase pimping for kids?
Yes. It's really cute. It is a cute show for
the... except for the, like, four -episodes of
the scene. I've said worse things on podcasts,
so it's not... Pimpin' for kids, dude. You're
selling drugs to little three -year -olds or
something. Well, Callie knows about that. She,
you know, has ice cream truck heroes, and that's
all drug dealers drive around in his ice cream
trucks. There's crack in those frickin' puggles,
that's why you have so many. What? I don't understand
this joke! Oh boy. Alright, moving on to the
final bit of news, we head on over to Transformers
Prime and their latest episode title. The title
and description of the next episode of Transformers
Prime is now out. Episode 38 or Season 2 Episode
12 is titled Tunnel Vision and features the bots
in the big city. Description, courtesy of Zap2it
below. R .C. and Bubbly go deep into the New
York underground in an attempt to beat Megatron
to the next four Iacon relics. What? We got Tunnel
Vision. Okay, listen. I don't think Callie has
any idea what's going on. Listen, Callie, listen
to me. Are you listening? Yes. Tunnel Vision,
the episode that will air May 5th. No, I heard
that. I just live here. I get to point out all
the inaccuracies. It's the future. So yes, very,
very awesome. I've said in the last few episodes
that we've recorded that I'm loving every week
getting a Prime episode with no breaks yet. I
know, you know, knock on wood that, you know,
they're going to say, oh, we're having a break
coming up. But, you know, whatever. I'm just
loving that we're getting all these episodes
in a row. It's just so awesome. Yes, I have to
agree. It's been nice actually having them air.
Consistently without without breaks like most
other shows. I've been watching lately under
cats Well, I'm just saying mainstream TV as well,
right? They'll go one week and then go off three
and then go on two and then off three and then
yeah It's just annoying least least they're keeping
consistent this season. Yes. They have a reason
I wanted to bring this up. I was thinking about
this before the show One of the reasons why I
think they're being so consistent in season two
with episodes is that? Season two has already
been like they started out doing season one a
year in advance from its release They went through
season one and got they got it done BotCon last
year They were already working on season two
and while season one was still airing so at this
point They're now working on season three so
season two is essentially done so they can release
the episodes weekly and not have a problem with
it. I think the original problem with the breakups
in season one was maybe they hadn't gotten the
finished products every time they went on a break.
So I'm just absolutely loving this whole Transformers
Prime being ahead of their own schedule. It just
seems to be so awesome. Yes, yes, very much so.
So anything else on the news? I feel I need to
explain why I was so confused by the New York
thing. Go ahead. I live in New York City. Yes.
When All Hail Megatron came out and they destroyed
New York City, specifically places where they're
like in Times Square and destroying the tunnels,
I go through that section of New York City every
single day. Things like that screw with your
piece of perception of reality Like you're in
the tunnel and you think the whole will giant
robots attack the tunnels not like literally
But I just remember the scenes like when you
watch a movie it takes place in your hometown
the same thing that happens I hope to normal
people There's a difference between fiction and
reality Callie It's interesting to see places
you live in in popular things like that, in scenes,
when they're destroying buildings you've been
in. So I'm just, when shows like that take place
in the city I live in, I'm always excited to
see what part is destroyed because I've been
there and I live here. Yeah, well, everything
likes to be centered around... New York. I'm
always freaking excited to see San Diego featured
in anything and I don't think Transformers has
ever featured San Diego I'm still waiting. I'm
still waiting for for someone to come and destroy
the Convention Center because that would be fun
That would mean they'd have to move to Las Vegas
That would be a blast. I would adore Comic -Con
in Las Vegas I'm gonna get a hate mail for happily
seeing New York destroyed in media, aren't I?
No, you're not gonna get any hate mail. Megatron
awoke in New York City, and it was delightful.
Yes. Wrong Megatron, but I'll accept it. Wow.
Well, you know what? Strange Tangent, I would
love to see a Fallout game centered around downtown
San Diego. Cause it would just be amazing to
see just destroyed downtown San Diego and just
like deserted and creepy and scary, especially
during like bot or especially during like Comic
Con because people have like people have like
their their papers like everywhere because like
booths and other people that are like advertising,
whatever, you know, they have papers and pamphlets
and shit like that. Imagine all those pamphlets
and papers just flying everywhere around this
deserted city and just creepy. And yes, it's
because I live here. See? You understand me!
I under - Yes, I totally understand you. That
would be amazing! I would - I would just love
to - Yeah. Anything centered around San Diego
I'm in love with. And Michael Bay would die in
the fire flight. Yes. Yes, yes he would. That'd
be nice. Something that has nothing to do with
Bayformers or Bayturtles or whatever else. We
have three episodes of Transformers Prime to
cover this week, so we'll be getting to that
next. for trustworthiness? I believe we must
consider the possibility of a future without
Megatron. Dreadwing. I am at your beck and call,
Lord Megatron. I wish to entrust you with a task
I would normally reserve for myself. That is,
if you wish to prove yourself worthy of becoming
my First Lieutenant. That post belongs to her
that need she will be missed And I suggest you
bring backup she can be an especially when cornered
We are back and first up is season 2 episode
7 crossfire Megatron sends Arachnid, Breakdown,
and Dreadwing on the trail of a potential energon
source. But what Arachnid doesn't know is that
Breakdown and Dreadwing have actually been ordered
to kill her for potential treachery since the
fight with Unicron. Dun dun dun! Dun dun dun!
Yeah. Um... Eek! Arachnid assassination plot.
I just love that. That... I just love that whole
exchange in the very beginning of the show with
Megatron as like, remind me of her loyalty or
whatever he says and Sunwave plays the clip.
I just, I absolutely love that. Poor, poor, before
Mariah goes off on her tangent here. Poor, poor
breakdown. Eyes to eye. But maybe we can patch
things up. That was an amazing line, but it set
off something that I really didn't like. I'm
gonna ramble the hell out of this one, so feel
free to tell me to shut up if you want me to.
I got spoiled on this episode like several hours
before I even got a chance to watch it. So I
knew what was going to happen before the episode
kicked off like I knew something was going to
happen to break down. I just didn't know exactly
what. But eventually my brain pieced two and
two together and I came out with four instead
of fish, which is what I was hoping for. And
yeah, he bit the bullet. And he bit the bullet
in a way that I really didn't like. Thanks for
interesting storytelling, though. Go ahead. But
I just wanted to point out, I think the way that
he did bite the bullet and the way that he's
potentially going to be used in future episodes.
The way that he's going to be used in future
episodes, that's fine. The way that he bit the
bullet is not. It didn't settle with me. The
fact that Arachnid Trapped one of his arms and
then was able to kill him off screen which irritated
the hell out of me That it I don't know I mean
he was able to hold his own against her in the
magnetic gauntlet episode With one with one hand
tied up by the gauntlet itself So I'm not entirely
sure why she was able to dominate him so easily
this episode But I'm guessing that was probably
because he thought that she was weak and oh,
you know his line of easy prey Yeah, he's just
like I don't have to worry about it. I got her
she's cornered. She's mine and I'm guessing that
was just you know, I let my guard down and I
paid this I paid the price for it I don't know.
I I honestly can't make a solid Opinion. Opinion,
yes. Opinion on this episode. Because, I mean,
throughout my last couple of months of working
on the breakdown costume and studying breakdown
and learning his mannerisms and everything else
so that I can properly be the character, I've
developed this strange emotional connection to
the character. You became emotionally invested
in the character. Exactly. I mean, I'm really
good at doing that. Anyway, with any show that
I'm insanely into, I'm really good at connecting
to one particular character and really sticking
with them. Breakdown happened to be that character.
So when he bit the bullet, I literally sat on
the couch and cried. Like not like loud, just
like tears actually running down my face. Like
that was I wasn't really paying attention to
the rest of the episode. The very first time
I watched it, I had to watch it a second time
and even a third time before I finally paid attention
to everything after Breakdown died. Yeah, yeah
I love that essentially in this episode Starscream
has been reduced to a energon scavenger I found
it eerily creepy that arachnid has mind control
over the insecticon. That was just creepy. Oh
Tarantulas anyone? Yeah, really? Oh, I know I
found it less creepy, because the Insecticons
seemed to really enjoy it. Like in Beast Wars,
when Trishula did the same thing, Black Arachne
was like, fuck you, get out of my head! This
time around, the Insecticons were like, I love
you, Mommy. Lay in my brain. I have spiders in
my brain. And I love how Megatron is like, I
am your leader. Follow me, and of course it doesn't
work. I have a theory on that, actually. The
insecticons are a hide species, aren't they?
Wouldn't they naturally follow a queen, then?
Particularly an actual insect queen? Yes, my
queen! So for all we know, the insecticons are
actually just getting exactly what they need,
and everyone benefits from the situation. Yes.
That is... that is a solid one, I mean... What
I've kind of figured out is the Insecticons have,
you know, they're kind of along the lines of
the of the Veicon drones. So they have like basic
programming to follow the one that's in charge.
And and yeah, like you said, that's probably
the whole Queen Bee mentality with Arachnid now
becoming their leader. But the fact that, you
know, it didn't listen to Megatron, nor did it
listen to Starscream. I'm not entirely sure if
if because it didn't listen to Starscream is
because I don't know pseudo whatever the hell
it knows that that Starscream isn't in power
anymore like he's not in the Decepticon ranks
and for whatever reason the Insecticon knows
it like some mass I don't know like some massive
wife file goes out, like, oh look, it's a Windows
update, so I gotta update all the fucking Windows
computers to make sure that they're all running
correctly, and yeah, hey, Starscream doesn't
count anymore, so that's my, that is literally
my only thought as to why it didn't pay attention
to Starscream. Steve, any thoughts so far? I
just... I mean, yeah, it was sad seeing another
Decepticon die. I'd rather see Arachnid die because
I particularly don't care for that character.
It's a piss poor copy of Black Arachnia is how
I see it. But yeah, I like the fact that all
the Decepticons have all this inner turmoil battling
each other at this point. So, but again, it's
in Marty Eisenberg. But the more she came out,
she seemed more inspired by a mix of Black Arachnia
and Transformers animated lockdown. Because she
seems to be a lot more vicious and a lot more
self -centered, let's say. Yeah. Opportunistic.
A very different character from Black Arachnia.
So she evolved more as a character, I think,
than Black Arachnia ever did. Oh, she did, she
did. I have never been a fan of Beast characters,
like, really at all. And after Crossfire, I really
want to see her die. Like, a very horrible, slow,
painful death. Yes. Preferably, no. Never mind.
I was going to say being torn apart by her insecticons.
But that would be too swift because then they
could just, you know, tear her apart. I'd like
it if Knockout went at her, but that's just that's
just my brain. I want to be terrible, but I won't.
Let me agree. And I don't care particularly for
that either character, the one that she killed
or her. But I. I would very much like to see
either Starscream and Payler head on a spike
or Soundwave dismember her or Megatron just fusion
a hole through her and then rip her head off.
Well, what I'm looking about the many ways she
can die are fantasies for Arachnid's death. I'm
looking forward to in future episodes and I'm
hoping they'll show it if they don't it'll be
a big bummer, but so far this this this show
is being really good about not leaving any loose
ends. So to show Knockout's reaction, at least
Knockout's reaction to breakdown is off -linement,
I think. If that is the right word, if he is
actually dead because my brain is still grasping
at straws that he's not. Yeah. But... And I even
tried to be optimistic about it when the episode
first aired. I'm like, OK, well, just because
he's in pieces doesn't mean he... is offline.
I mean Humpty Dumpty was in pieces and they put
him back together at least once. It's not how
that rhyme goes. I know it's not how the rhyme
goes, but still. My other note, you know, I just
got two more, three more notes here. I've seen
a few people equate Dreadwing to Inferno from
Beast Wars minus the My Queen bit. I don't think
this is a justified comparison because Dreadwing
is not as nearly as... loyal. Off his rocker
as Inferno was. He's not nearly as loyal either.
He completely disobeyed order that first time.
Yeah. Yeah. He was like, screw you, I'm gonna
do my own shit. Then he came back going, I'm
sorry. I should have listened to you. Yes. Final
the Insecticon and Megatron, that was freaking
intense. It's pretty amazing, I will give it
that. That was, it was... From pretty much the
very start of the episode to the very end of
the episode, it was... It was action scene after
action scene. There was no slow moment from pretty
much the moment that Dreadwing and Breakdown
and Interacted went out. It was just action,
action, action went after the other. And yeah,
the ending fight scene. That was cool. That was
cool. I am mildly sad that all of the Eraticons
were taken out off -screen, and then Bulkhead's
like, wow, that was intense! You're like, dude,
you didn't move! Don't tell me that was intense!
You didn't move! What I loved about the end battle
between the Insecticon and Megatron was that
it reminds me of when the Insecticons from G1
first showed up. and they were fighting the Decepticons
and the Autobots were just looking on. And I
was like, oh wow, the same thing happened here.
The Autobots are just looking on. They're like,
we better not, it's just best not to interfere.
Grab some popcorn. Dinner and a show. Any other
thoughts on Crossfire from anyone? I guess not.
So we're going to move on to the next episode
yes that's it follow the light wait what not
the best choice of words ratchet rc are you all
right sure Next up is Season 2 Episode 8, Nemesis
Prime. Mech produces a clone of Optimus Prime
named Nemesis Prime and sets it loose on a military
base where it proceeds to wreak havoc. The United
States military immediately blames the real Optimus
for the chaos and they become hostile towards
the Autobots. Oh man, this episode was amazing.
Pretty cool. Yeah, it was just freaking amazing
Yeah, it was very different I was trying in my
first note. I was trying to make a truck not
monkey reference But I didn't really succeed
because I was like truck drive agent off -road
And I love that Fowler Hums the wrong song. The
song he hums is not the song that's playing on
the radio. No matter what, man, whatever song
will come on, Fowler's gonna hum something completely
different. Evil Optimus, what? No, that can't
be. I'm always annoyed by episodes like this
myself. Why? I know this is made for kids, and
the kids and the audience have to be able to
tell the difference from one optimist to the
other, else you'd be confused as to what's going
on. But I just wish that someone would point
out the fact that he had yellow eyes, the wrong
color, and the wrong voice. Yeah, I can kind
of agree with that, but the way I see this series
is it's for us. It's for the fans that have been
around for a while and of course we the fans
are gonna know the difference I I understand
where you're coming from Callie. I do But you
know and maybe a little line of dialogue here
and there But would it have been more intense
if we thought that Optimus Prime was actually
there and not his doppelganger When they approach
Bumblebee and then he couldn't tell what Bumblebee
was saying Yeah, yeah I think it would be more
intense if the audience was fooled at the same
time. Yeah, yeah. Um, I love... I know a lot
of fans out there don't like Miko, but sometimes
she just has some cool lines. Maybe he was faking
being a good guy all this time! Is that Miko?
Has Miko gotten less intelligent this season?
She has. Wow, okay. She's gotten less intelligent
and has had really useless one -liners. And,
I mean, I didn't necessarily dislike her, like,
in season one. She wasn't my favorite, but I
didn't really dislike her, and I still don't
really dislike her. But I still feel like she
hasn't progressed, like, at all. How the hell
did she become an exchange student? I don't know!
I tried to be an exchange student. I couldn't
get in with a 2 .5 GPA. Oh, wow. I don't freaking
know. Don't you have to be like really freaking
good at your schooling to even do that? Yeah,
you have to have like a 3 .5 or a 4 .0. Yeah.
If they had told me that she had moved to the
country with her parents, it would have been
more believable. Yeah. You got a point. Yeah,
that is a good point, actually. The rich kid
exchange student thing. without doing the research
on changes? Well, you know what? These are gigantic
mystical beings from the planet Cybertron. I
think they can make up their own frickin' rules.
That's what I'm talking about! Yes, but this
is a fake world. This is fake Earth, where there
is such thing as knockout drive -in, which I
wish we had. No. I wish we had a knockout drive
-in. No. because my brain, being my brain, thinks
it would actually make more sense if Miko was
from another planet considering how stupid she
is. Don't make her another Sari, please, come
on. Okay, now she is not as bad as Sari. No,
I'm just saying. Sari was awesome! No, she wasn't!
I love Sari! Sari, the problem with Sari is that
once they started to develop her, Cartoon Network
and Hasbro pulled the plug on the freaking series.
We had so much stuff unresolved with Sari at
the end of Animated. Season 1, she used the key
for everything, that was annoying. And everything
else. Miko isn't that annoying. The way I see
the three humans in Prime specifically. Jack
is... essentially a spike. from G1. I mean, he's
an adult Spike almost. I mean, he's that serious
kind of guy that's going to do whatever it takes
to get the job done. Mikko is the goof off where
she'll jump into a situation without even looking.
And then Raph is just kind of there to be Bumblebee's
translator. I mean, Raph has had some great character
development with him, almost dying at the end
of season one. But I don't know, I can... I really
enjoy watching the dynamic between Jack, Miko,
and Raph, and the Autobots, and the Decepticons
as well. So, I don't know. I'm pulling the plug
on your video game. Oh wow. That was a good line.
Yeah, that was such, such a good line. And I
love that, you know, we finally find out that,
not Agent Fowler, Silas was... You know black
ops, you know arm, you know black ops special
forces all this stuff And he's like any ass father.
He's like you Fowler's like army Rangers, but
I'm retired at this point or something else I
wish because my note is army Rangers bitch. I
wish he would have said that I know he wouldn't
have I know that they wouldn't allow Say that
oh What were you gonna say Cali? I said it's
a kid's cartoon language. I know I know And my
last note is another comparison here. The scene
where our Optimus, the good Optimus, jumps up
and he is framed by the moon and then he comes
down on the Nemesis Prime. The first thing I
thought of was Megatron in Transformers the movie
when he jumps up and he's framed by the moon
and he comes down on Optimus. I was like, oh
wow, that looks so familiar to me. Killer shot.
Yeah, that was a killer shot. Kelly, do you have
any notes for Nemesis Prime? Anything that you
liked or disliked about the episode? I think
I covered all my bases, actually. What about
you, Mariah? Really nothing else. Nemesis Prime
was a good action episode, but being a, oh my
god, look, it's an Optimus Prime clone. Being
not a fan of Optimus Prime really didn't interest
me. I was also insanely sad that after Crossfire,
it was like, oh, let's focus on the Autobots!
No, go to the Nemesis, it's up in the air. You
know, that other dude? So what poor mech schluck
had to actually study Optimus Prime's entire
body in order to get every detail correctly?
I don't know. Well, they've been studying him
since Season 1. I mean, that whole thing with
Breakdown initially was a diversion. when they
captured Breakdown in Season 1 because they revealed
at the end of the episode that their real target
was Optimus. Well, he just knows someone had
to stare at Optimus Prime's ass on a screen for
at least several hours. Oh, wow. I can't believe
she went there. I can't believe she went to Optimus'
ass. Well, she's got a point. I know, I know.
Come on, I know how hard that is. About real
-life wax sculptures, you know somebody had to
look at something I know how hard that is. Look
at the breakdown costume. Oh, dude. I stared
at him forever That's cuz you know that's there's
no real I don't have a hard -on for breakdown.
That's kind of hard to have a hard -on for breakdown
when I'm a chick. Anyways, you know what I mean,
dammit. Yes, I love him. The other thing I noticed,
and I wish this was kind of true, in the scenes
where they were showing Nemesis Prime... There's
a scene where he's driving and his colors are
muted. His lights look like a muted neon green
and his frame looks like it's purple. Shattered
glass. Oh, you just like your shattered glass
colors. That's right. Well, the one thing that
actually, you know, theories that I'm sure a
lot of people have thought about was the whole
breakdown becoming Nemesis Prime and that terrified
me just a bit. That it was that it ended up being
That it was, you know nemesis prime had those
golden red optics and I'm just like Breakdown
has golden optics that frightens me a little
bit Yeah, and I know and at that point I knew
that mech had breakdown but obviously At the
end of the episode when we learned oh my god,
there's a problem Silas is missing now we see
that Silas has internal massive internal damage
and is probably going to die and they're just
like yeah we have this whole we have a you know
we can save him pan up to look breakdown is hanging
on the wall right there Is that a breakdown on
your wall or are you just happy to see me? but
no what what really killed me with the end of
this episode is that scene and the very eerie
heart monitor the the life support monitor where
it was beeping I was like oh my god there is
never well to this point in between season one
and season two up to this episode specifically
nemesis prime there hasn't been one One time
where I have said I am just so disappointed in
the series or I just absolutely hate this episode
or whatever. Every episode so far has been awesome.
At least in my opinion it has. Did you have anything
else? What? Well, they're just expanding on that.
There are some episodes which I feel they could
have done better, but in all seriousness, the
whole damn series has been insanely amazing so
far. Yeah, yeah. So I think that's it for Nemesis
Prime, unless, Mariah, you have anything else?
No, I'm just looking forward to preview our future
episodes to see what Silas tends or what Silas
is gonna do with the breakdown's body and if
we're still going to get Adam Baldwin lines out
of the breakdown body or if it's just gonna be
Silas' voice. We'll have to wait and see. We
are going to move on to the final episode of
this week. I am Optimus Prime, leader of the
Autobots, and I bring you this message. Special
Agent Fowler, please come in. What's Private
Daley doing here with that camera? He will be
making a record of today's session. Soldier?
Too close. Sorry, I didn't dress for the occasion.
Formality won't be any more necessary than usual,
Bill. But I do need to inform you that our higher
-ups are on the warpath. They want answers regarding
recent events. Perhaps we should begin with the
demise of Optimus Prime. Season two, episode
nine, Grille. Following from the events of the
previous episode, Agent Fowler is sat down to
explain recent events to his superiors. I have
two notes for this episode. Clips show recounting
past adventures to fellers superiors, which is
essentially the same thing as the plot synopsis
But prime at the end was kind of cool. I This
as I said a second ago in the nemesis prime discussion
up to then Was the you know, I've never been
disappointed. Oh, I understand this episode was
necessary. I was severely disappointed with this
episode I just was. It just did nothing for me.
It did nothing for the overall story of the show
because it's Fowler explaining stuff to his superiors.
It's Fowler trying to explain... Magical horse
with a horn on its head to his superiors, which
I thought was funny that that joke popped back
up Yeah, unicorn. What's a unicorn not unicorn?
Unicorn, I like that moment of silence. Well
Crowder was trying to figure out exactly what
Yeah, I liked I did like the that that both of
that both his superior general whatever the fuck
his name is and the camera dude were like all
kinds of accusatory and the camera dude like
got up in his face and then foulish just like
that's too close and his breath went onto the
like you could see onto the lens condensation
on the lens and I'm like that is a cool touch
that you guys did that was awesome yeah yeah
I'm hoping that this coming week's episode is
more story -based now that we've got the recap
behind us. Clip shows the rest of the season!
No! Callie, you are evil. No, I need to see what
happens in The Nemesis next week, thanks. Dragon
Ball Z got away with it for like years, didn't
they? Oh yeah, they did. for like seven or eight
weeks. Never even watched the show and I know
about this. Yes, yes. Kind of hard to not know
about that. But anyway, yeah, I don't know. Clip
shows, understandable. This one obviously needed
to happen. It needed to happen in the grand scheme
of things because that's just kind of the way
that it was rolling. It was dude. gigantic metal
robot that we've allowed to live on our planet
just attacked an army base so now you need to
explain to us what the fuck happened so it makes
sense instead of instead of it leaving that loose
end and it or rather showing it rather excuse
me not showing it and just having a be off -screen
and and like say Like say when Fowler comes back
to the base they all okay what happened? You
know and then him like oh I had to explain why
prime went and instead of him explaining it to
the kids or to the Autobots It's actually showing
it which I thought was a neat touch because they
didn't have to do that however It was still a
boring episode in all fairness there So far there
have been two star wars references in this series
well two specific star wars references that i
know of i know they're probably been other ones
but the two that i caught on to was. All the
space bridge episode when they are i am packs
the the season two opener three -parter. Where
fellers like we're fine here how are you in the
game of again. In this episode where Optimus
is like, I'm fine, how are you? I was like, oh
wow, that's so awesome. I think that's it for
me on on Grill. You know, we've we've pretty
much There really isn't much to say about this
because it's all events that we've already talked
about Yeah, wasn't anything even remotely new
which Besides the little piece with Fowler and
really That's all we got. I mean, granted, okay,
it was pretty awesome that we finally got another
human model. Two human models, if you count the...
The cameraman. If you count the cameraman, which
we saw, I think, once. Yeah, once. But an actual,
you know, fully moving, talking human model,
which is cool, because we don't have a lot of
those. Yeah. And the one part that I actually
really liked is the very, very, very, very, very
end of the episode when instead of them showing
some ending to the interview, it was just, the
camera is running out of battery, oh, camera's
dead, and then you hear that winding down sound
of the tape. That was awesome. I was like, that
is a cool touch right there. That's a cool way
to end a dumb episode, in my opinion. What I've
noticed about Prime, they do their to -be -continued
with multi -parters, and they do their, like,
mysterious endings, like with the last episode,
Nemesis, with the heartbeat monitor. They do
them so well because it hasn't been since, it's
been since I was a kid that I was eager and enticed
and on the seat of my pants waiting for next
week's episode every episode so far at the end
when they've had either a high note or a low
ended on I'm like oh my god I want more now give
me more new episodes right now don't let me wait
a week I want more of this now and I love that
prime is doing that it's just so good True. Same
thing, I haven't really had. I mean, Animated
did that to a point, but they didn't really do
a lot of those crazy ending to the episode. They
were just like, oh, look, here's the ending.
We're all happy now. Autobots are awesome and
cool. And they could have ended this prime episode
like that. They could have very well ended with,
all the Autobots are back in the base, they're
talking to the kids, kids crack a joke, ah ha
ha ha, we're all laughing and that's the end
of the episode. But the fact that it ended on
that note with the tape recorder, that was fantastic.
Just the way that they ended it in a totally
different way than I've ever seen from any show
I believe that I've ever seen. Just so I've certainly
never seen that in transformers media before
and I'm I'm trying to recall the other shows
that I've seen but So I think that's it for the
episode discussion this week oh Actually, yes,
I'm sorry. This is just this just popped up.
I loved Fowler's silly little quote about his
jet and being able to sit in there comfortably
without a flight suit without without his intestines
blowing apart and he's just like i like to sit
comfortably and then he adjusts his jacket that's
funny yes very funny very awesome sorry point
that's okay so we'll be right back after this
the point i'm trying to make here is Hold on!
Prime? I need an assist. Agent Fowler, have you
uncovered mech agents? No, they're okay. General
Bryce here just needs to confirm the state of
your health and welfare. I am fine, General Bryce.
How are you? and couldn't find any trace of Silas.
The internal damage to his organs is massive
and beyond the scope of conventional medicine.
Fortunately for our leader, Mech is anything
but conventional. So what are you guys looking
forward to in Transformers this week? Prime.
Just more Prime. Yeah, much more Prime, much
more from BotCon and trying as hard as might
not to go into a frenzied panic because of things
I still have to do before BotCon. Is that the
only thing you're looking forward to, Kelly,
