All Things Transformers
Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Prime Discussion

About this Episode
Hey Tara strong here, and you're listening to
the geek cast radio network. You're listening
to all things transformers version 2 .0 Welcome
to All Things Transformers, version 2 .0, episode
9. I'm your host, Steve Megatron Phillips, and
joining me as always is the infamous... The fucking
great one, TFD1 Mike. You are not the fucking
great one. Yes I am, dammit. You've been demoted.
No, no, no, no, no. There's no demotion here.
So what's new? The usual. Such as? Coming up
for Tooncast 100 Record, which hardly any of
the co -hosts have actually sent in voicemails.
But anyway, let's see, there's that. I've been
planning and plotting stuff for GCRN over the
next two and a half months, and oh my god, June
is going to be our busiest month ever. I have
so much crap to do in June, it's not even funny.
It's like almost every day of every week in June,
there's something. Nice. Yeah. Let's see, just
got an interview done with Stan Bush for BotCon
2011 that will be out sometime next week right
before BotCon. Actually waiting on Stan to send
me new promos so I can add those into the thing
so I won't actually edit that until probably
Monday or Tuesday next week. Just interviewed
Tara Strong for the second time about Batman
Arkham Asylum. What else, what else, what else?
I've got interview requests in the works for
a bunch of different people, a couple of returning
ones. That's pretty much it. What about you?
Well, I'm about to fire off in a little bit emails
to my Darkglass companions. Darkglass slackers
is more like it. Some of them, yes. Also, I've
been conspiring over at BTVA or BehindTheVoiceActors
.com with various members on there coming up
with new ideas for their fan interaction areas.
Oh, cool. So the eventual idea is we're going
to have maybe... And this is if everything pans
out, something like American Idol, but for amateur
voice actors. Oh my God. That's so hilarious
that you say it like that because the first thing
I thought of when we asked Tara Strong the question
about how to break into voice acting. And she
goes, it's a really tight business and you have
to be really, really good. There are some good
people out there, but there's mostly bad people
out there and The first thing I thought of when
she said that was American Idol for voice acting
Well, the funny thing was I came up with it earlier
and I was I don't know It just it came to me.
That's what I put down. So I think that's probably
what's gonna happen. I Don't know for certain
so don't quote me on it, but yeah I just thought
it would be interesting to try. Cool. And of
course, I've thrown out ideas of who would be
the judges, so that's, of course myself, but
anyways. Yeah. And Kevin. Yeah. But yeah, other
than that, gearing up for a couple of specific
MWIRE podcasts, episodes, which I'm not going
to fully release details on yet. But the concept
is there in any case argh Too much info. No,
it's not Too big of details But anyhow, um, yes
I'm standing here trying to get this stupid cyclonus
to stand up and he won't stand up. Oh fucking
bastard robot You won't stand up on his own over
right now. He's doing the splits lovely. Yeah,
we should move into the news probably Yes, um
Well, you can go ahead and start that out Great.
Thanks three under the bus. There you go Bucker
first week back since vacation so I can do what
I want So the first thing we're going to start
with is the opening scenes of Dark of the Moon
have been revealed. And there's lots of giant
spoilers, which Optobotomist said, oh, there's
nothing interesting there. We already knew it
all. Well, to me, the one thing that's interesting
is about the fact that they actually show them
on Cybertron in the very beginning of the movie.
See, the trailer didn't really point that out.
or the teaser thing didn't really point that
out that the movie starts on Cybertron so I'm
liking that I'm liking how they have Sentinel
basically crashing on the moon and that's why
the space race happened blah blah blah I'm liking
it overall but again it's one of those things
where it's so much different versus reading scripture
of it or not scripture, oh god. This is not the
Bible. Yes, no. It's so much different reading
a synopsis of it than actually physically seeing
it in a trailer or actually seeing the actual
movie. The one thing, like I just said, that
really interested me was that it starts on Cybertron
instead of it starting on Earth with, this is
Optimus Prime and I am receiving this message
from the star, blah blah, whatever. I have crapped
my pants, and this is how it will be. Yeah, something
like that. So what did you think of the full
-on three and a half paragraphs full of the intro?
I don't know. I don't really care, honestly.
It isn't that I don't care. It's more so I just
want to see the film. I'm to that point now,
yeah. It's not that I don't want to know about
it. I don't think that it's relevant to sit here
and do speculation upon speculation and whatnot.
I have a strong feeling for this film, so I don't
think I'll be disappointed, but I don't want
to jump to conclusions either. Either route because
I don't want to get crucified for it later for
one Because we got crucified after the second
film came out because we were called haters Well
that person didn't know what the hell they were
talking about no right it was that shit horrible,
but Exactly Well, it was bad shit, but anyways
um Yeah, so I mean It's not that we we hate transformers
related stuff. It's just we wouldn't be doing
a news podcast on it if we hated this thing Exactly,
and I wouldn't be sitting here fiddling with
a piece of plastic trying to get the damn thing
to stand up That's what she said Shut up no comment
anyways Yes, so What do you think about the soundtrack?
A lot of these bands some of them are older some
of them are ones I've never heard of and then
other ones Obviously one we know that is number
one on the album that we don't really care for
But I like that some older bands got a shot into
getting in this. Like you have Goo Goo Dolls,
you have Stained, some other ones that people
will know, Theory of a Dead Man, Taking Back
Sunday, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Skillet,
which I don't know, Mastodon, I've never heard
of them. I've never heard of Black Veil Brides,
but... Yeah, the only like I'm interested in
the Google song just to see what that is because
I've always been a fan of them The stained one
could be I've been fans of them off and on it
just depends on what style the song Huh, it depends
on the song right with stained It depends on
the song but it also like it depends on if they're
going for The hardcore stuff that they did in
the very like at the very beginning like when
they first released dysfunction way back in the
day or if they're going for stuff that they've
done in later years stuff like oh What was that
stupid song that like? It's a damn song God I
know it's in my head here The one off the disc
the the not the dysfunction album make Their
slower stuff it depends on what it is if it's
their heart if it stains harder stuff or if it's
their slower stuff The one that really pops out
to me, and it's only because I'm a huge fan of
the band and they have a brand new album coming
out July 12th, the truth is, is their new album
is The Theory of a Dead Man's Song, because I'm
wondering if that is a Hall and Oates cover,
because Hall and Oates has a song from 1981's
Private Eye's album that's called Head Above
Water, so I'm wondering if Theory is doing a
cover of that, or if it's an original song by
them. For me, Stained, Goo Goo Dolls, and Three
of a Dead Man are the only ones that stick out.
I've heard Iridescent. I don't give a shit about
Iridescent. It sounds like shit. It's Iridescent.
Yeah. But yes, I'm interested to hear all the
other bands except for Linkin Park. Yeah. Because
obviously we've already heard it. Yep. And I
could give two shits less about Linkin Park at
this point. But anyways, that's already been
discussed. I'm definitely excited to see how
some of it sounds. I'm not buying it by any means.
See, that's the thing with me. And there's three
different versions of this, which is kind of
a pain in the ass. You get the GameStop exclusive.
You have the iTunes Deluxe exclusive. And then
you have the regular CD. We'll see they do that
because it's it's a part of it's that whole exclusivity
thing It's kind of like game codes or pre -order
for for characters. It's the same deal and It's
this isn't a new thing either because there are
sometimes when an artist or a band will release
their album But in order to cash in they will
release They'll give Walmart a special edition
with an additional track on it They'll give target
the same thing, but with something different
than what the Walmart version is I mean Multiple
albums with music and bonus features on that's
nothing new to me at all Like you said this isn't
a set like I won't buy the whole soundtrack hopefully
When the iTunes version comes out you can buy
per song Because like I said, I would love to
check out the goo goo dolls song the stained
song and the theory of a dead man song So hopefully
you can buy the individual songs and you don't
have to just buy the whole damn album It's interesting
I'm more interested to see how some of these
songs might fit into the film because with Revenge
of the Fallen I fully say that Bumblebee's theme
song now is Nickelback's Burn It To The Ground,
because that played during the scene where he
showed up at Sam's college. It played in the
background of the movie, so I'm more interested
to see where some of these songs in the soundtrack,
other than Iridescent, which will probably be
end credits, I'm more interested to see where
they show up in the film. Oh, yeah. So... The
release date for Dark of the Moon has been moved
up. From July 1st to June 29th. What a freaking
nightmare this is. And I don't mean this in like
us just generally going. It's a nightmare for
promotional people. Mike Laidman and I were talking
about this on Nerd News. He was talking about
it off air actually. He's a media buyer. so he
does promotional stuff he does trailers and all
that stuff so them changing the release date
means you have to go back and re -edit all the
trailers everything else to say july uh... june
twenty -ninth instead of june first or july first
sorry my question to you is and i post this on
facebook and i don't think uh... my buddy on
their will carpenter i don't think he was getting
what i was trying to ask They basically moved
this from a Friday release to a Wednesday release.
Outside of two weeks before holidays or the Wednesday
before Thanksgiving, do Wednesday movies ever
really do that well? I always thought that theatrical
movies get released on Friday because they want
people to go to the movies over the weekend.
And you know you and then you have during the
week you have like comic books for comic books
get released on Wednesday and music and movies
and DVDs get released on Tuesdays. So and I know
that the Wednesday release of a film has happened
for the longest time but are they ever really
that successful? I don't think so. I can see
like I mean with the first film they released
it on a Monday for an early release. Did they
really? Yes, and I remember some of that, but
it did well because of the way that they trickled
it into circulation. Generally, I don't think
the Wednesday thing works out. No, I know in
some cases, like I said, those exceptions, like
the Wednesday before Thanksgiving or the two
weeks before Christmas and stuff like that, or
even if Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday. uh...
or the wednesday before christmas day those are
exceptions because those are holidays and people
are on vacation and they want to do stuff with
their family you know exceptions would be like
the lord of the rings trilogy the star wars stuff
when those of released on wednesday they have
succeeded but that's because it's that franchise
uh... what i'm saying is in general doesn't matter
what film franchise it is That that that that
was my question do they succeed on Wednesdays
and the other thing is You're gonna have a Dark
of the Moon Wednesday where everyone oh, I'm
taking off work to go see the Transformers movie
I'm not taking the day off. I'll wait until the
weekend. I'm not saying you are, I'm saying in
general. I know but I mean it's just I don't
know I'm enthused for the film that I mean I
am I am very enthused for the film and I don't
I don't want people thinking that I'm being negative
about this what I'm being negative about is the
release date is That's what I'm being negative
about the film looks amazing from what we've
read from what the credit what the what the opening
scenes are supposed to be Looks really really
great. I am very enthused for the film I just
worry about the whole release date thing because
it looks really, really weird to me. Yeah. I'm
not sure how that's going to play out for them.
I don't really see the logic in doing this because
one, it's wasting money on retitling everything.
Yep. But two, I don't see what the benefit is
of opening it two days early. Unless there's
something else that's coming out during that
weekend, but even then if that's the case, it's
still gonna kill it. Oh Yeah, but I don't think
there is anything coming out that particular
weekend. I don't think so either I Don't know
it's just kind of strange. It's all I know. Yeah,
it's very very strange So moving on yes moving
on We have Transformers Dark of the Moon the
video game multiplayer trailer Looks interesting
Looks better than what the other two games were
of course that that's because it's High Moon
Studios working on the game this time around
not whoever did the first two games Activision
I believe did the first two games, which they're
in conjunction with High Moon Studios, but I
can't remember who exactly did the first two
with them. Yeah, I think it was Activision. It
was Activision and some other company. Yeah.
So it sucked ass, something terrible. Now, just
from the images and the video I've seen of this
so far, it's very, very War for Cybertron -esque.
Yeah, because it uses that engine. Well, yeah,
which is good because it runs a lot faster and
It's I don't know just overall a better a better
system and setup and you don't have the freaking
times Stuff, so I mean this I may actually buy
Yeah, I might actually get it myself, too. I
was not enthused whatsoever With the first game
after playing it. I'd never touched it again
I think I found my copy the other day and I'm
like oh I can go oh wait no I can't go sell this
to people no one will buy the damn ugly thing
the second game I have to be honest I never bought
it I never played it I didn't care to even try
I don't even think I had my new computer at that
point to even try to play it and my old computer
wouldn't have even my old computer that playing
that game on there would have killed it But yes,
I Mean it looks interesting. So that's that's
the good thing Yeah, I mean it it more than likely
will be a Force to be reckoned with it'll be
the best Transformers game since war for Cybertron.
I'm guessing yeah Did you also see the hands
-on details yes, I'm looking at them now And
what is your overall it was fun Yes, that's what
it looks like So So yes, we'll switch gears over
to Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg to be inducted
into the Transformers Hall of Fame Yep What is
your opinion on this? I think it's okay. I mean
The way that they're doing the Hall of Fame for
humans is that they are doing it They're trying
to honor those that have touched the franchise
Like people like Bud Budyansky who wrote a lot
of the you know initial G1 stuff people like
Peter Cullen who obviously voice up voiced Optimus
Prime and Having Bayne Spielberg in there. I'm
okay with it because of the simple fact that
it's they brought it back. You know, we can say
what we want all about the live -action films.
How bad they were, how we didn't like them, whatever.
But you wouldn't have, I mean, besides us Transformers
fans, you wouldn't have the mainstream audience
flocking to these films every time that they're
put out. And even though I think Michael Bay
was the wrong fit for this, he should have been
on G .I. Joe, You know, I gotta give the guy
credit Yeah, he did, you know Bring a life into
this saga, which probably would have never been
done to this extent Yep So I can't fully disagree
with it. I mean, it's it's still Anything's better
than them inducting Neil Kaplan You're just an
ass for that guy All he did was voice optimist
prime and rid horribly Well, I mean that's what
he was casted to do. So you can't really blame
the guy You can blame the people that ran the
the direction of it So yeah, so yeah, so Michael
Bay is actually gonna be at the BotCon transformers
Hall of Fame ceremony Yeah At least he shows
up and acknowledges what he's done. Yeah, sure.
It's cool, though. I mean, for those that are
going, I mean, that is a pretty nice feat. You'll
get to see the director of the film, which is,
you know, despite like him or hate him, he's
done a good job. I mean, it's it's still awesome
to be able to see him. And, you know, I think
isn't Spielberg going to be there, too? I think
it's just Bay. That's all it said on on on the
news post and that's all it said on BotCon .com
is it's just Michael Bay Still in any case that's
I mean if Spielberg shows up that'll be great
So but it's still cool for a guy that you know
keeps busy pretty busy to show up Yeah, something
like this Yep Moving on, switching gears. Yeah,
we'll switch to the other BotCon information
since we're already on BotCon. Yeah. The convention
schedule and panel information is now up. Now
this is very interesting. They've announced what
their main autographed guests are going to be
like the main special guests Well, let's run
down the list and then hold on. I'm I'm I'm working
around that. Hang on one second They've announced
all the special guests. You got dilly keg burger
Morgan Lofting What's his damn name? You know
Ross Jack and Jack Angel Stan Bush Michael McCoy
and Who's this chick? Arlene Banas, who played
Carly. What they also said was they're also going
to be having special secret guests. So this information
here, basically, Friday at 1 p .m., there's gonna
be a script reading the Stuntacon job. Saturday
11 a .m. There's going to be Hasbro Transformers
toys panel, which is usually them just showing
us what we're gonna get for the next year or
so Saturday 12 p .m. Transformers Prime cast
script reading now. This is very interesting
Very interesting because Peter Collin is nowhere
on the actual special guest list neither is Frank
Welker if they're going to have a Transformers
Prime cast script reading Maybe they are two
of these super secret special guests. That is
very possible. Unless they're just doing a scene
without Optimus and Megatron, like if they're
just gonna do a scene between Bulkhead and Miko
and you know what I mean? Unless it's like the
rest of the cast. And the reason why I say it's
interesting is because Saturday at 2 p .m. Surprise
guest autograph section. Who could they be? So
what I'm saying is with these surprise guests,
I'm betting that it's additional guests beyond
David Kaye and Stan Bush and all them because
if you look at BotCon's actual schedule on their
website, it shows all four days or three days
or Thursday to Sunday. You have spread throughout.
those three or four days, you have spread throughout
there like multiple times where you can get an
autograph from David Kay or Morgan Lofton or
Neil Ross. So this special panel, it has to be
different people. Yeah. They kind of have to
agree with you. And then Saturday at 4 p .m.
we have the Transformers the movie 25th anniversary
voice actor panel. Again. Also makes me think
that Walker and Cullen will show up It would
be a definitely good year to have them because
out of the original guest list out of that Jack
Angel Greg Berger and Neil Ross, I think are
the only ones that were in TFTM out of that guest
list Because tracks was yeah, Michael McCoo.
Yeah tracks wasn't in there So that's what I'm
saying TFTM voice panel. That's another hint
that at least Colin I Can we can speculate on
Welker, but at least Colin? Yeah, Colin at least
has to be there you would think anyway and Then
Sunday at 10 a .m. There's the making of transformers
prime panel, which this is probably gonna be
like Jeff Klein Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orsi. It's
probably those guys, the producers, the directors.
Might even be Sue Blue. We just don't know. And
then Sunday at 1 p .m. is the Hasbro Planning
and Story building. So I'm assuming that's probably
they're gonna let us know, like media, what they
have planned. They may give us a preview to...
Exodus 2 or whatever it's called the the second
war for Cybertron book So I wish I could have
gone this year this would this would have been
a convention to attend oh Yeah, just just from
all the secrets and stuff that are plotted throughout
this these this schedule I so wish I could be
there this year because this is gonna be one
of the best bot cons ever. Yeah, that's one of
the things that sucks about being across the
country and with no money. Yeah. Because you
can't afford to go to nice things like this.
Exactly. Headshot. Headshot. Switching into headshots.
We have the shout Factory Beast Wars slideshow.
Oh Okay, I thought we were going to transformers
vault next my bad No, we'll finish off with that.
I Okay lost my mind Anyways, um, yes, shout Factory
has a nice little slideshow going and there's
six images. Yep Transmetal 2 Megatron and optimus
Transmetal 2, Tarantulas. No, it's Transmetal
Tarantulas is the first picture. Dinobot, then
Transmetal 2 Dinobot, then Rattrap. Transmetal
1 Rattrap. Yes, and then... And then Megatron
and Optimus. That are in their first Transmetal
form. Yeah. Which, you know, these are previously
seen shots before, but... Well, yeah. They're
good details, so I mean, I can't really... What
I'm more interested in... The images are great.
What I'm more interested in was that one story
back on the 16th where they showed the Beast
Wars Season 1 DVD trailer. Oh, yes. Because I
didn't realize that 2011 is not only the 25th
anniversary of Transformers the movie, 2011 is
the 15th anniversary of Beast Wars. That is true.
And you've watched the trailer, haven't you?
Yep. It's pretty neat how they go through that.
I like how they tied in various clips and created
it. And it sounds like something you'd watch
right on a TV commercial. I mean, obviously,
they're going to do that too. It's it's nice
to see them treat this show with the respect
it deserves Just like they've done with generation
one, you know Whereas Rhino kind of Rhino and
and I hate to like beat Rhino up too much because
I mean they did have nice as far as the imaging
on the the discs and the interiors of the box
sets but They had some pretty piss -poor boxes
for their DVDs. See, I like the Rhino DVDs. The
season one was pretty lame. Season two and three,
they got a little bit better, and then by Beast
Machines, they hadn't mastered, but they... Oh,
okay, you're talking about... Okay, wait. As
far as the boxes concerned. Right. No, I... You
mentioned G1, and then I thought you switched
it on me. You mentioned the G1 Rhinos. I thought
you mentioned the G1 Rhinos. No, I wasn't even
talking about G1 Rhinos. I know. See, I thought
you were. And then you went back to B. I'm like,
oh my god, what the hell? No, but the menu system
when you get into the DVDs is piss poor, too.
I don't know what Shouts looks like yet. We should
very soon. being that season one and the complete
series are due out June 7th. And the complete
box set is exclusive to Shout Factory Store to
begin with. And I guess if you pre -order, I
don't know if there's any perks for it, but you
get eight DVDs for the complete series. It's
all 52 episodes. Obviously four discs are season
one. And then you have each two discs for Season
2 and 3. And then there's new bonus content,
new interviews. Some of the old stuff is going
to carry over. Not interviews, though. The collectible
24 -page comic book is shrunk down to fit into
the case. The BotCon Dawn of Future's Past, which
I already have four copies of, but that's besides
the fact. Um, but yes, this, this is definitely,
uh, something nice to see, uh, taken better care
of. I wish that they would have been able to
get, um, uh, what is it? Uh, theft of the golden
disc on there. Yeah. However, I was told, uh,
by one of the guys that voiced on it, uh, there
was a specific reason why they could not do it.
And I'm trying my rights issues. Well That was
partially There was what was it? I'm looking
it up right now What she said? Yeah, it's probably
rights issues. I mean regardless of what it's
just nice to have a a newer version of Beast
Wars on DVD because the Rhino sets As nice as
those cases are, you're right, the menu thing
sucks. The menu screens suck. It was nice to
have an interview from Bob Forward and Larry
DiTileo on there, but other than that, there
was no real bonus features. No, and the 3D animation
cells sucked. Hopefully they've got the stuff
with the... I've heard that they've gotten interviews
with people that actually produced the show as
far as the 3D imaging. and the CGI and everything.
And I think they may have some of the behind
the scenes clips that showed up on YouTube from
one particular person. Yeah, I remember seeing
those. That may be on there. I don't know. It
depends on if they contacted him and got better
quality clips. As far as Theft of the Golden
Disk, the guy said there's more to it than what's
being discussed, but there's not anything they
can actually say about it. So there's probably
something that has broke. made a disclosure thing
that... Again, it's probably a rights thing,
because it depends on who owns that. It depends
on who owns Theft of the Golden Disk, whether
it's Hasbro, whether it's the people that made
it, whether it's Fun Pub. Because, honestly,
that was a convention -exclusive thing, wasn't
it? Yes. Yeah, see, that's the thing. I actually
asked permission from Randall N. G. on Facebook
about this because I wanted to use part of this
year's BotCon promo that he and Dr. Smoove put
together I asked him if I could use part of that
audio and he said well really Fun Pub owns it
but I guess it would be okay if you use like
a few moments of it but don't use the whole thing
so it's one of those things where if Fun Pub
owns it and they don't want it on there It has
to be a rights issue. It's the same thing with
any DVD where say the studio or the producers
or whoever puts the DVD together or the distributor
like someone like Shout. The best example I can
give you is a song. That's why a lot of DVD sets
that like... Say lost say Supernatural has a
song from one of the you know major bands you
know what I mean like some major band if It shows
up on television they can get away with it because
they've probably already bought the rights to
it when it comes to DVD If the rights are too
expensive, they won't buy it. They'll find another
song to supplement that scene on DVD. And I hate
that about DVD sets, but I'm sure that's probably
something. It has to have to do with the rights
issue for Theft of the Golden Disk not showing
up on the Shout Beast series sets. Oh, it has
to be. Yeah. Which, again, sucks. But, you know,
get what you can get. Yup. And finally up today
for the news is the Transformers Vault video
preview. Abrams Brooks has uploaded a brief video
preview of the Transformers Vault book to YouTube.
I'm not even talking right tonight. The video
preview showcases some of the cool things that
come with the book and the icing on the cake
is set to the background music from the Transformers
Prime soundtrack. Check it out. I didn't watch
this, did you? The vault thing? Yes, that was
freaking awesome watching everything that came
out of that packet. I was like, does it ever
end? I know! There's so much. They have a tech
spec sheet with a red decoder strip. They've
got a whole bunch of other stuff here. It's so,
so awesome. I'm actually going to play the video
without the sound, obviously, just to make sure
I can see what else comes with this, because
it's very, very cool. And it just it looks so
so awesome, and it's not just a I mean it is
a book, but it comes in like a case Yeah, there's
like toy instruction manual type things that
pop out It's almost like a pop -up book the red
decoder thing that I mentioned a second ago What's
he gonna pull out next? Come on looks like a
an uncolored in animation cell or drawing optimus
prime translucent card transformers the movie
rotimus prime unicorn poster um let's see what
else come on dude shows more for yeah that's
that's it but it's it's very very cool and honestly
i don't think it's priced that that bad. I'm
just going to look up at Amazon really quick
because I think I have it on my wish list. Either
that or I have it in my cart. One of the two.
I forget which one. Let me see if I can pull
it up here. Amazon. I think when I added it to
my cart as like a save for later thing, it was
like $23 .99. So for all that, that's not bad
at all. Oh no. That's not that bad at all. Let
me just look it up really quick. Oh my god, I'm
typing and I know people are going to hate that.
It's from Walt Inbooks. The price is... Let's
see. In stock, ships and sold by Amazon .com,
gift draft available. It is currently... Oh,
it's... 2058 through Amazon and it is currently
released. So yeah 21 bucks not bad No, not bad
at all, especially for all that stuff you get
that's awesome So, where do we go from here sir,
well from here we're going to go to a commercial
break and it's actually not a commercial but
It's going to be a quick break and then we'll
be back with our iTunes and voicemail Welcome
back to all things transformers and now we're
going to jump to the iTunes reviews the latest
ones we've gotten are well They titled this one
all things transformers five stars And it was
on May 20th by Wowee27. And they put, provides
all you need to know about Transformers mixed
with humor. It feels like having a conversation
with good friends with common interests. A great
way to spend the morning commute from Midland
to Saginaw or wherever you live. Thanks, guys.
Fellow Michigander. I know those ways so well.
Anyways, but yes, thank you very much. Nice to
have feedback on the new version. Yes, very nice
about damn time Yes, and then the next one is
yet another perspective on all things transformers
four out of five stars by optimus 997 on May
21st The two regular hosts here Steve and Mike
have really worked hard on this and other podcasts
And this is one of my regular tf podcasts to
listen to Even with copious amounts of TF podcasts
out there, this one still manages to find a unique
voice. Special guest hosts, interviews, and varying
opinions on the many properties of Transformers,
including the movies, current shows, comics,
and toys, all lend to a product that overall
is very enjoyable to listen to if you're into
Transformers. So give it a listen. What have
you got to lose? Oh, and Steve Megatron's voice
is quite good, so that's a plus. Yes! Yes, you
read that wrong because he said Steve's Megatron's
voice. Yes, I know. Not just your original voice.
I know that. I, I, yes. I'm an idiot. Thank you.
Thank you. I'm bowing for being a moron. Something
Megatron would never do is bow. I would never
bow down. No. Steve is my bitch. Give me such
ammunition Megatron, that's not good. You know
that by now. We've been doing this almost two
years. Yes, however, you have also something
else in common. You also have something else
to do with the other end. Don't bring it up.
You can read the last one. Yeah, I'm gonna take
the last one. Asshat. You're the asshat. Go back
to your tropical island. You go back to your
tropical palace Well tropical island you did
just come back from vacation you asshat. It wasn't
tropical So you went to I almost said Saskatchewan
so you went to Saskatoon with all the snow No,
I went to a water land. Oh Well waterlands can
be tropical, but anyway Where's my rubber ducky?
Continue. Yes, this is from Toon Master Tim.
It was left on May 24th, 2011. Transformers news
and a great conversation, five stars. The GCRN
guys do a great job of creating very entertaining
shows that interest the geek community. Conversations
are always fun to listen to and it is like you're
sitting at the table chatting with friends about
geek culture. ATTF recently underwent a revamp
with ATTF 2 .0. The show format may have changed,
but the objective is still the same. Transformers
news, conversation, and reviews. For me, listening
to podcasts is a way to catch the news since
I rarely have time to hang out in forums or hit
all of the news sites that... on the web throughout
the day. ATTF reports the latest top news stories
and they review the latest episodes of Transformers
Prime, which is great. I recommend you try ATTF
and other podcasts from the GCRN team. So thank
you Tim. I'm not sure which Tim this is though
because Toon Master Tim has left us two reviews,
one for ATTF and one for Tooncast. I'm not sure
if this is Tim Silver's or Tim Costello. So I'm
not sure. So they're going to have to call in
or write in and let us know which is which. Yes.
Yes. So thank you to everyone for leaving the
new iTunes reviews. We greatly appreciate it.
Keep leaving those reviews. Yes. Thank you. Thank
you very much. And now we will jump into our
voicemail. Hey guys, this is Sean. I'm a new
listener and I'm just doing a message about episode
number eight. Yeah, a point there about Transformers
Prime is that what I got from the Shadow Zone,
I think it's preview, where Starscream has the
Dark Energy in them is that, you know, it hasn't
been revealed maybe I think maybe maybe part
of sick mind had it but Definitely the The thing
before it was the episode before was that you
know, he he still has the dark energy pulled
out of Megatron out in space so my hesitation
not you know, my assumption is that that Darjeeling
John is what you stole out of Megatron the spark
chamber and still has possession of that has
told essentially no one about. Because if you
recall, the dark energon that Megatron was reanimated
with is out to the energon. He, in Bubblebee's
body, pulled from that old Cybertron battle,
a war zone battle, when he first got these essentially
zombified robots. Yeah, I mean the point you
guys didn't just totally passed over I mean yeah,
he stole he stole it out of Megatron spark chamber
when he found them out, you know in the aftermath
of the of the space bridge explosion But yeah,
I won't go back and listen to the other the older
podcast because you guys have some great great
banter and insights with the shows and and and
transformers info, so And yeah, I think there's
a great day, there's a healthy skepticism amongst
all Transformer lovers and geeks about this third
movie, especially since they've already leaked
out comic books and children's books with details
before the movie comes out. But yeah, yeah, it's
making sense. But thank you guys. I'll look forward
to your next podcast. All Things Transformers
will be back after these messages. Emerging from
the dark humor that was the Beast Unleashed podcast,

to extract your spark and destroy you. Now back
to all things Transformers. Thank you Sean for
the kind words and yes, it's not a plot point
that I meant to skip over. The problem is, I've...
The problem is because I don't have the hub and
I have to watch the episodes on YouTube when
they go up. I completely forgot about Starscream
stealing the dark energon out of Megatron's body.
So yeah... It's just a mess up on my part Thank
you for the kind words about the other podcast.
Hope you continue to listen more as far as the
movie prequel media I Never paid attention to
any of that The only way I'm getting spoiled
for the movie is if obviously as you've heard
in this episode is if we read from the tfw news
postings about opening scenes so that i've never
ever bought a movie prequel book from any of
the movies what about you i've bought so i i
bought them for the first and second film i did
not read the one for the second film so i didn't
i'd don't care to buy it for the third one so
you basically wasted money on a prequel that
you never even read I read it for the first one.
Does that count? Yeah, but if you went back and
you bought the Revenge of the Fallen prequel
novel, but you never read it, that's a waste
of money. Well, I'm not disagreeing with you.
So yes, thank you to everyone who left the iTunes
reviews and the voicemail as well. Yes, thank
you. Thank you very much. And now with TF Prime.
I don't know what's wrong with me today. I'm
having so many issues. Yes, Shadow Zone was the
latest episode, and I think Shadow Zone was the
last latest episode because there hasn't been
one shown up since. I think they're going on
another break, which is... This is the problem
I have. Around the holidays, I understand breaks.
It's the middle of freaking saw almost the middle
of freaking summer well not the middle of summer
But it's it's coming up on you know the summer
season. Why would you do a break? after so many
episodes in or I This is what hurt hurts cartoons
because I hate when they do that, but anyway
The basic plot of this one is is that Starscream
is injured from Megatron He's still scheming,
he's got his dark energon. The Autobots go out
and survey the area, but Mikko being the sly
little wench that she is, she tries to play it
all cool by not even caring that they're going
on a mission and then she makes a break for the
space bird, not the ground bridge. And in the
process of Jack and Raph trying to stop her,
she drops her phone. They end up in the location
where the Autobots are. Optimus, you know, delivers
a really, really menacing line to Starscream
and blows his arm off. I laughed so hard at that.
That was awesome. I don't get it though, because
Starscream forced the Dark Energon into himself.
That's supposed to infuse them with power. It's
supposed to infuse them with the blood of Unicron.
And as soon as he did that, Optimus shot his
arm off. It's like, really? So the blood of Unicron
is tainted and it's not any good and it makes
you lose limbs? It only works in certain individuals.
That's true, that's true. Megatron is the superior
model, obviously. Oh my god, they get you on
superior, Starscream inferior. So come to find
out the kids are there and after Starscream gets
his arm shot off he requests immediate ground
bridge from Soundwave. His ground bridge opens
right when Optimus orders RC to... Open up a
ground bridge for them. So you have two ground
bridges going at the same time the feedback does
something really really weird where They end
up in a shadow zone of the real world and they
can only touch each It's like an alternate reality.
It's kind of like chatterglass type of stuff
the other plot that I'm kind of not pointing
out here is Starscream was at this he's at the
site of Skyquake's grave and he's trying to Makes
sky quake rise up So that's why Starscream is
there and the whole shadow zone effect happens
from the feedback of the ground bridges the Autobots
can't see the kids, but the kids can see each
other and Optimus points out the real troubling
problem to this is sky quakes tomb is empty um
and I know that's a horrible attempt at an optimist
impression that's almost worse than Neil Kaplan's
but um come to find out that the zombie skyquake
is stuck in the shadow zone with the children
lovely yes oh he won't be bothering anybody and
at least we know Decepticons become zombies too
yep um Basically Starscream gets his ground bridge
back to base Goes to knockout and says I need
your repair. Oh, I guess we can go get the one
you lost. Where is it? Don't you have it with
you? My greatest thing about this entire scene
with knockout and Starscream was Knockout mentions
the fucking no ray. That was so cool. I know
that was such awesome fan wank That was so awesome
We could upgrade you to a null ray because your
current arm is antiquated I don't want a null
ray. I want my old arm Yes, that was such a good
g1 reference um And I'm trying to remember here
what the hell happens after that Starscream goes
back out searching for his arm, which it ends
up in the Shadow Zone with the children and the
zombie Skyquake. They shoot it, the kids shoot
Starscream's gun arm, and it basically tears
off Skyquake's arm. Ratchet finds a way, they
all find a way to communicate with the kids through
text messaging. Oh my god, text messaging, yay!
Modern technology at its greatest. I know, exactly.
And Ratchet finds a way to get the kids back
into the real universe and then they get them
back to base. This whole time Starscream's arm
stays with Zombie Skyquake in the Shadow Zone,
but Skyquake's limb ends up... the real world
with Starscream and he's like sorry like this
is not mine This is such a comedy episode It
was and it was nice to see Megatron at the beginning
kind of like purposely torturing Starscream yeah,
and Starscream of course not liking it's like
damn it. I'll kill you In a sense. Yeah, yeah.
I just don't... I don't have any problems with
this episode. It was a really, really good, interesting
episode. It was a way of combining alternate
reality with reality. The only thing is... Megatron's
only in the beginning. So... That part did kinda
suck. Yeah. Megatron's only in the beginning.
So you're telling me... this megatron goes off
to his hot tub and plays with a rubber duckie
not often uh... but but said that seriously though
that you know this megatron is supposed to be
a big bad and i know this was a star -spangled
episode and that's fine well and great even in
other shows you know specifically these wars
with the stores megatron in his tub with his
rubber duckie You would see him interacting with
whatever else is going on, so I'm wondering where
the hell did Megatron and Prime go? What the
hell is he doing? Is he on vacation or something?
Obviously, he's fully healed, so he doesn't need
to heal anymore, so what the hell is he doing?
Overall, I'm glad this was sort of a comedy episode.
You know when people often think of like zombie
homages or zombie transformers or zombie anything
It's supposed to be big bad and scary and skyquake
zombie was big bad and scary for the kids But
I just kind of laughed at it a little I don't
know It was just a fun episode to watch. Oh,
yeah, it's And it was it's nice to see something
like that every now and again I mean, I know
that they have an overall plot line of what they're
Attempting But it's it's nice to see them kind
of just go out on a limb and do something funny
Right, but at the same time if you think about
it, they're really not going too far out on that
limb They did it as far as the comedy aspect
of it. Well, they did go out on a limb. I mean
Starscreams, but Yeah, very punny Yeah, but what
I'm saying is though like they went out on a
limb with the comedy, but it's not like Every
other episode has told us a continuous story
up to this point It's not like this episode is
a standalone at all. It's still part of what
they've told already See what I'm saying. Oh,
yeah. Yeah, it's I like how that yeah, it's not
like G1 were just One off after one off after
one off and then oh, there's a five -parter that
that's continuity one off after one off after
one off This is one continuous story. This episode
just happened to have a lot of comedy in it.
Yes, and It was nice to see the humans decide
to be like, yeah kind of had my fill of fun They're
they're like, yeah, I'm not gonna do the zombie
thing again Thank God for that I like how they,
how, uh, um, Mikko says, how can a zombie arm
move faster than the actual zombie? You know
what I thought of when I first saw the zombie
arm? Thing? Yes. Robo -Thing. It's dead. Oh my
god. I love Thing. Thing is so cool. Is it Thing
1 or Thing 2? No, Thing. I know. I was being
a smartass. There's only one. There's only one
true Thing. But yeah, TF Prime has been pretty
much non -stop awesome. Yep. And I can't really
complain about it at all. Even with the, I mean,
I think it's because we've become accustomed
to it now. Even with the fact that it's partial
movie design, I don't care. It's a well -written
show. I don't care about the designs whatsoever,
because it is still there, even though the Optimus
and the Bumblebee are movie design, that Megatron
design is unique to this cartoon. Bulkhead is
a little bit of animated, but it still has its
own style, even though it's still mimicking other
stuff, if that makes any sense. It's still its
own entity, and it's still very, very awesome.
Oh yeah, they've been doing pretty much great
everything since day one with this show. So I
mean, it's not a dead concept in any means. And
I'm glad that they're doing what they're doing.
I mean, it does need some levity in there, but
it's still keeping true to everything. And I
honestly can't wait to see what they're doing
next. the next episode I believe is called operation
breakdown yep that's the one where the Autobots
have to save breakdown from Megatron I think
I thought it was from Silas oh yeah sorry from
Silas but yeah that's going to be interesting
to say the least I think the only thing that
could hurt this show is the breakups with episodes.
Like I said before, if it's not a holiday season,
I don't understand why they're doing a breakup
unless it's because of the cast going to BotCon.
That could be the only thing. Maybe they don't
have the voices recorded for the next few...
I don't know. I'm not really sure. I always assume
that they always had the production done before
they release a show, but you just never know.
Yeah, I'm not very fond of how they keep doing
that. I mean, I'm kind of glad they did it the
week they did it because I was on vacation. Not
that it would have stopped me from watching it
on YouTube or putting it on Predacon Empire,
but... I still think that they shouldn't go five,
six episodes and then put it on a break. Five,
six episodes, put it on a break. Yeah, no. That's
a little strange to me. It's just kind of...
I don't know. It hurts the show. I mean, look
what they're... But I think they're trying to
get it to limp along little by little until the
film comes out. That could be. And then that
way it doesn't lose any interest and then...
once the movie's over they'll go full blast back
into it and then it would be righteous do the
toys and everything else i mean i can kind of
see yeah i can see it from that angle yeah but
it's it's it's kind of hit or miss it i i'm hoping
that they do this right well i think they are
doing it right it just it just depends on the
timing of and again i think one of the reasons
why is maybe because The cast is getting ready
to show up at BotCon, so that in conjunction
with the movie could be why it's been on a week
or so hiatus. Yeah. But anyways, I think that's
about it as far as the regular episode's concerned.
Is there anything else that you're looking forward
to in the next week or two? Um, well... As far
as Transformers? Well BotCon obviously cuz BotCon
is next week. Yes. I Am glad Like I mean, I know
this is unrelated to transformers for the most
part but uh about Tara Strong's interview Telling
about the Arkham City Yeah, which is awesome
I can't wait to hear the future interviews that
we've got coming up for All Things Transformers
and various other tie -ins to other shows in
the coming month. We've got two within the next
week that we're going to be doing, which are
going to be epic. One of which, I don't know
if you're releasing what yours is. I think you've
already said, haven't you? About what? About
the BotCon stuff? Yes. About who your special
interview is. Oh yeah, it's hard to stand, but
Michael Wilson and I talked to Stan Bush about
BotCon and 25th anniversary of Transformers the
movie and yeah. Yeah, so I mean we've got that
and then we've got Shout Factory DVD extraordinaire
guy Brian Ward coming up next week. So that will
definitely be awesome. We can hopefully get some
questions rounded out and get Kevin to join us
and Yeah, maybe get some questions answered before
it comes out and DVD on the following Tuesday
after the record so Yes, yes, that's very true
Anything else that you'd like to pimp out before
we close this off? Don't think so. I think that's
that's pretty much in as far as transformer stuff
I'm still doing the I started doing the toy cast
and weekly news episodes Right now we only have
two weeks of news episodes so far and Because
we are now sponsored by big bad toy store for
real Wow, I just thought I saw something move
on my desk. It wasn't supposed to move You're
not supposed to smoke the crack before you do
So I've been putting on a couple of Toycast news
episodes, one with Michael Wilson and one with
Octobotomist. I'll probably continue to do that
when I can, but it's not... I think I'll do one
every time that there's like a news, like a toy
news roundup through like Toy Arc or when BBTS
puts out their newsletter, so I'll actually have
stuff to pimp out for BBTS. But yeah, I've been
having fun doing that. Tooncast is coming to
an end. We're starting a transformation animation
podcast, which we got some super awesome promos
from Tara for that. Plus some more coming soon.
Yep. Yep. There's lots of like the next two and
a half, three months are going to be super awesome
and super busy for us over here at GCRN. Oh yeah.
Oh my god, it's gonna be so awesome. So yeah,
that's pretty much it though. Alrighty then,
so that will close this off. Be sure to check
the Geekcast Radio website for future updates,
interviews, and all things Transformers. And
if you'd like to leave comments on the show,
please send it to our voicemail line, 502 -526
-5821. Please leave your name. Do not leave gibberish
and leave actual comments for the show. No heavy
breathing. We don't need that. You may have people
laughing about this when you listen to this,
but we actually had it happen. Most of the time
we actually get real voicemails. But yes, please
do that. Please leave iTunes feedback. We love
that. If you'd like to ask questions, do... any
kind of contribution ideas to the show, do either
the voicemail or send it to steve at geekcastradio
.com. Or if you'd like to ask Megatron a question,
you can go on Twitter at VW underscore Megatron,
ask him your questions. He will answer it on
the show in some form or another. I can't promise
what he'll say and how nice he'll be, but I didn't
say he was going to be nice. And he says, I can't
promise anything. That's a complete different
separate entity on itself. I have no control.
Megatron is never nice. He's evil. I'm not even
going there right now. If I went there, I know
what hole this would go down and what road. And
I'm not willing to have it go down the low road.
So. All things lead back to the low road. No.
Never. This episode should be subbed out of the
low road, not the long haul. No. But anyways,
yes, we will close this off. You can reach me
on Twitter at scp21 and you at? Tfg1mike. See
you next time guys. Later. I wish to speak to
my lawyer.
No chapter markers for this episode.
