All Things Transformers
Transformers Prime Out of His Head Review

About this Episode
Check out all things transformers with Steve
Megatron TFG one mic and optimus solo. I could
dig it You're listening to all things transformers
version 2 .0 Hello and welcome to all things
transformers episode 8 I'm your host Steve Megatron
Phillips and joining me this week is if June
like hello Hello, and also joining us this week
is optimus solo Solo yeah, so what's up guys?
He's he I think he was trying for a thunderous
voice there. Yes that can be arranged in post
-production Now if only iTunes would let him
pay me anyway now I I went to comic book day
last weekend and There wasn't any free comics
that I care to take I Did research beforehand
so I knew not to go. Yeah, I know well Waste
of time it's only yes. I have a monthly bus pass.
It's only like a 10 -minute bus ride, so it wasn't
that bad um But I went there and I started looking
through some of their other stuff, and I noticed
that they had Green Lantern toys. I'm like, oh,
okay, so let's see what else. And they have the
toys up on a really, really high pegboard wall
type thing. And I looked around, looked around,
looked around. First thing I saw, Generations
Thundercracker. I mean, this is a comic book
shop that can't be, it has to be at least, 500
square feet if that I mean this is it's not a
tiny store, but it's not a huge like it It's
not like something like comic book world or you
know something that's really mainstream chain
type of thing And I'm like, okay Wow generate
what the hell is generation slender cracker doing
here blah blah blah and I kept looking I found
cup I found scourge So I got all three of those
and I sent Thundercracker to Kevin because I
know you wanted him. Yes My Seeker collection
is now complete Besides the BotCon stuff, which
you don't really want. No because I don't have
a thousand dollars for each one of them So what
else have been going on Kevin Lots of podcasting
telecast stuff coming up out the wazoo and A
lot of stuff over behind the voice actors getting
ready to be done. Lots of cool things. I don't
know why I'm talking like this. I don't know
why you're talking like that either. More things!
What about you, Steve? What's going on with you?
I'm still waiting for particular people from
Darkglass to get their freaking emails back to
me. Which, you know, certain cast members have
said, yeah, I've got the script, I'm working
on it. Some of them I haven't heard back from,
so... I'm going to give them a little while longer.
Before he unleashes Hell. Yes, before June, and
if I don't hear anything back from particular
people, I'm going to recast them from their backups.
Nice. Yes, so that is one thing that's kind of
irritating. The other thing is... Well, I don't
have anything irritating per se it's more so
my job sucks, but anyways Yeah, so I get to go
on vacation Yes, and I get to catch up on all
the podcasts we've released this week I haven't
even listened. I think I've listened to ATTF
from last week and that's about it. I haven't
really had time I've been too busy getting pissed
off at work You got a lot of goodness to listen
to Yes, I do. And I won't be driving, so I'll
be able to pay attention. That's good. Yes. So
I think we'll jump into the news before we go
into a train wreck. Like what almost happened
last week. It happens. It does, sometimes. Sometimes.
So yes, we'll jump into the Transformers, Dark
of the Moon. news In it cool news got to watch
30 minutes of the film and There's some good
things and some bad things We'll start with the
horrible thing Michael Bay lied to us. Damn it.
Well Skids and mudflap are in the film, but they're
toned down That's like Jar Jar Binks is still
in the film but in the background role. I wonder
how toned down they actually are. I mean, it's
whereas, you know, Jar Jar Binks was in the first
film of Star Wars and very prominent second film,
a little less. And by the third film, he was
just kind of there. And then the fourth film,
he no longer existed. Yeah. But Skids and Mudflap,
in my opinion, should be removed from continuity.
But that's besides the point. The other key points
are the Battle of Chicago runs for an hour Good
lord, and it's a battle completely That's Michael
Bay right there. Yes Megatron is very creepy
was still part of his head missing from the final
battle of Revenge of the Fallen He's two -faced
That could be interesting that could be especially
with shockwave appearing yes, that's the best
part Leonard Nimoy voices Sentinel Prime to perfection,
which means... Califatron, anyone? I don't know.
We'll be like, wait a second, are we watching
the movie? Animated one? Could be. Rosie Huntington
Whitely spends a lot of time in the tightest
clothes imaginable. She has a role in the film
and is reckoned to be better than Megan Fox,
perhaps because she has an active role. I could
care less. Yeah, I don't care about the humans.
I don't care about the eye candy. As far as Sam's
parents, they're barely in the film, which, you
know, that's to be expected. The only funny humans.
Yes, and the civilians die in large numbers during
the Chicago battle. Excellent. Murder! So what
do you think about that? Seems like it's gonna
be pretty good from what I've seen from the footage
And I actually know other spoiling I know major
spoilers like I know exactly what happens so
I'm not gonna reveal that on air so but No, huh,
you wouldn't know yes, I would Yeah, yeah, the
skids and mudflap thing... No, no, no, okay,
no. No, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm
not talking about skids and mudflap. I'm talking
about I know exactly how the movie ends. How
would you know? I just know, trust me. How do
you know that's not just fake stuff that he's
let out? All I'm saying is Michael Bay has been
known to... Sources, Captain Crapper. Michael
Bay has been known to... to lie and to put out
false propaganda. It's not coming from Michael
Bay. But anyway, moving on! Do you actually know
someone that's seen the movie? Moving on! What
do you think of the spoilers, Kevin? Well, I
haven't watched any footage whatsoever. I haven't
watched a single preview, really, except for
the one that they showed at the Super Bowl preview
because I don't like... being spoiled uh... but
as for like the stuff that steve was saying like
doesn't surprise me that there's a uh... long
ass battle uh... it could be good could be too
long it just depends on how they do it but the
fact that i don't know it seems like they're
gonna fix a few things in this one so like steve
said with the humans i could care less eye candy
whatever but i don't know i'm just waiting to
see some of the shockwave and sentinel prime
and all that stuff so it should be good yeah
i'm hoping that when they do like the enumerous
amount of tv spots that they're going to eventually
do advertising the film that one of them is we
hear the voice of shockwave and we hear nemois
sentinel prime at some point that stuff will
be cool hopefully the long battle is not as shitty
as the hour -long running scene and Revenge of
the Fallen? Yeah. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
It scares me that there's an hour -long battle
scene unless they've really done it right, because
I'm not a big, let's just watch action for an
hour type guy. I like some plots and some story
and some dialogue. But since when have we gone
to any of these Transformers films for plot,
story, and dialogue? Let's go to see the robots
get blown up. I don't want it to be a pod race.
Well, no, Michael Bay is not George Lucas. He's
a close second, but he's not George Lucas. But
I will continue to avoid previews until it actually
comes out in theaters. Moving on, the score and
soundtrack are officially on the website. Nice.
They're online and unfortunately Linkin Park's
song is in there. And, yes, you can listen to
different parts of the album, slash, score. I
am fine with the score. The soundtrack, I don't
care at this point. As revealed last week. Yeah.
The soundtrack, I could care less. The score,
you know... It depends on how the score fits
into the movie, like, I mean, Steve Jablonski
has done a great job with the two previous films
with the scoring of the music, but it just depends
on how it fits in with the movie, so I actually
have to, like, sometimes before I hear a score,
I have to see how the music fits into the movie,
and then I'm like, oh, well, I want that, so
then there's this. Yeah, I'm never a big person
on scores and soundtracks and movies like I like
it Maybe when it when I see the movie and I'll
be like all the music was cool for that But I'm
not usually one to go search that stuff out and
like I have it on my iTunes or something Not
a big soundtrack person I Am but it depends on
what it is Yeah, I'm more so this I like the
scores better usually Yeah, that makes sense
Moving on, we'll jump into the BotCon latest
guest information. BotCon. Yes. BotCon. We'll
end it with the latest one. We'll go back. And
I think we said Flint Dilley was going to be
there last week. I think we said that. Yeah.
Since then. Greg burger has been announced As
well as who you know if you don't know he did
Grimlock then you know you're fucking lost somewhere
in a cave Morgan lofting also to attend BotCon
More so people would know her as Baroness from
GI Joe. Yes As well as some other fighter star
moon racer from generation one Mike's much -hated
Springer character. Okay, hold on. Where are
you going there? Hold on, shut up. I don't like
the character. I never said I didn't. The only
Transformers voice actor I cannot stand is Neil
Kaplan. I know. So... Anyway, continue. Anyways...
And then following that is Jack Angel. So Neil
Ross and Jack Angel are the latest two. Jack
Angel's just a cool name. But he's got some of
the better characters though, I mean if you look
at him. Yeah, I just love the name Jack Angel.
He's got Magnus in Season 3, he's got Astro Train,
Rangette, Cyclonus, Omega Supreme. Yes. And then,
of course, Stan Bush has been announced as well
to attend, which that's not a surprise. He usually
goes to BotCon. Yeah, well, the last two or three
years he has because 2009 was in Pasadena, last
year was in Florida, and this year it's back
in Pasadena. Stan goes between California and
Florida all the time because he's originally
from Florida, so... With the announcement of
Stan being a BotCon this year I just so happen
to be I normally don't scroll down through the
tweet deck news feeds and stuff that I have on
my Twitter but I was removing some people so
I went down and Javier Fuentes tried to retweet
TFW and he made a snide remark about Stan Bush
and he's like all of them was going about on
i guess you have his mortgage first of all probably
one of the reasons that they want him there is
because well let's face it he is to transformers
what music is everything else i mean you know
he is one of the best transformers musicians
second of all this year it's been twenty five
years since transformers the movie came out so
that's something uh... just seeing stuff like
that But also it's the fact that like you said
he lives close by the same reason David Kay's
there, you know I mean, it's it's you know, and
they The thing about it is they also have to
agree to go. Yeah, and You can tell the ones
that still are very much into you know, the fans
in the franchise Yeah, by how often they like
to visit. Oh, yeah and being that Stan and David
are pretty much you know, neck and neck for how
many times they've appeared. Yeah. It's, you
know, you can just tell that they're more, you
know, there for the fans and everything. There's
three more slots on the BotCon page for the guests.
I'm assuming that one of those slots will be
taken up by Stan. The other two, it's a movie
year. So, I mean, Cullen has to be there. I mean,
unless they're not even going to do that. But,
I mean, normally movie years, Cullen has been
there. The final spot, I'm hoping, against hope,
and I know everybody is hoping for this, I'm
hoping that it will be Frank Welker's very first
BotCon. You know they're going to be saving the
best for last. I know! They do have a pretty
diverse group this year, I would say. Well...
When I was talking with Michael Wilson in the
Toycast News episode, we were kinda talking about
it off air, about the BotCon guest list, and
he's like, oh, they're all G1 people or whatever
else, and he said, I want, you know, the kids
that play the kids in, I want the people that
play the kids in Transformers Prime, or I want,
you know, Kevin Michael Richardson, or I want,
you know, everybody wants Frank Walker, you know.
Something to do with the cartoon. Not necessarily
all these old, you know say he hit Michael's
thing was oh, it's it's the same old You know
generation one people and I tried to point out
to him. Well, this is Jack Angel's very first
time being there Yeah, you know, I don't know
if Neil Ross has gone in the past. I Don't remember
if he hit he has ever been a guest but So if
that If one of those three slots is for Stan,
obviously, because they haven't updated the BotCon
page yet, the other two I'm hoping against hope
it will be Welker and Cullen. If Welker actually
does go, those that can't are going to shoot
themselves in the face. Yeah, they are. Myself
included. I can see them having a bunch of the
original people, though, just because, like you
said, it's kind of an anniversary of sorts and
whatnot. But the other thing is, with Welker
and Cullen, they can also speak to Transformers
Prime and the movie and stuff like that. They
give you multiple ways to look at things. Yeah,
and that's the other thing. I mean, it's not
just a movie year, but essentially every movie
year, Peter Cullen has been a guest. Mean I If
it wasn't in Pasadena if it was somewhere closer,
and they had the same guest list I would really
love to go just honestly just for the guests
I mean set the toys aside even though I love
this year's toy theme I would love to go just
for the guests because this is honestly This
is easily one of the best guest list that they've
put up so far in a while anyway pretty star -studded
Yep Shit, I'd love to go alone just because David
Kay's there Well, yeah But anyways, uh, I don't
think we have any more news per se Botcom Other
than I wish I was going to back on just for some
of these guests alone Yeah, yeah but Anyways,
we will be right back after this The Beast Unleashed

with the Transformers Prime discussion this week,
and this week we are talking about Out of His
Head. Out of my head. Off with his head. This
show is, at least in my opinion, this show is,
you know, second only to Beast Wars right now
in storytelling. oh no doubt about that because
holy crap between sick mine and out of his head
oh my god even though last week when we're talking
about sick mine and I said I kind of foresaw
what was gonna happen with Megatron as far as
like when he like jumped after bumblebee went
through the bridge what this one the follow -up
this is how you pay off something like that And
not just leave it hanging Yeah, like I was really
when I first saw both of these episodes, especially
the first one. I was a little skeptic Skeptical
of stuff. I'm like I could keep thinking was
the g1 episode where they went into watching
McCall its Insides and we're going around and
I was like they're gonna really have to do this
Well in order for me to accept this whole in
his brain nonsense, but they pulled it off with
the second episode. It was just badass seeing
Megatron come back. Oh yeah. I rise again! And
fling around Starscream like a ragdoll. Yeah,
that was awesome, like Starscream coming after
him and everything, and then you see Megatron
just take his ass down and... It was just awesome
seeing that happen for one, but Two the the last
time something like this was used it was during
Beast Wars They had to get Like and this in a
sense this kind of reminds me of like a tarantulas
black arachnia moment Yeah Just because she had
to get something out of his head. Well, this
is the same thing Bumblebee had to get something
out of Megatron's head and they float over into
their consciousness the same way. It also reminds
me of when Mystic Rhino went into deep sleep
trying to find Primal's spark in Aftermath. Beginning
of Season 2 of Beast Wars, Aftermath, when Rhinox
goes under. Actually, it's not an aftermath.
That's coming to the fusions part one. Oh shit.
One of them damn... The Beast Wars and Beast
Machines did a lot with mine stuff and going
to... Right, but what I'm saying is like as far
as actual physical similarities in the stories
is Bumblebee had something jacked in the back
of his head. Rhinox had something in the side
of his head, the same type of medical type cortical
patch, whatever. Well, Blackar Agni had to do
something similar for Tarantulas to get the stasis
pod to work. It's the same concept. They did
a lot. This pulls another successful use of this
plot ploy from Beast Wars. It uses it to a higher
extent. Yeah, I totally agree with that a couple
other highlights I thought for the episode. I
love the way they're using knockout I love like
at the beginning that he's just kind of in the
corner listening to Starscream be stupid and
like he's very Sneaky and just like always in
the background. It's almost like Soundwave where
I sound we've always hear stuff although Soundwave
has been like MIA for a while well some wave
was in sick mind because Starscream was gonna
pull the plug on Megatron and Soundwave showed
up behind him. Yeah, I'm just saying, it seems
like he's barely been in the last couple episodes,
I don't know. What people in general that are
watching this cartoon, not just us, what we have
to remember is there was a news story months
ago where Jeff Klein said that the story that
they are forming, Bumblebee will... We will either
find out how Bumblebee lost his voice or Bumblebee
will get his voice and Soundwave will also have
a voice eventually. So, you know, people are
all like, oh, I'm tired of Bumblebee beeping
and R2D -ing it up and all this and all that.
In the movies, I agree. Bumblebee needs a voice.
In Prime, I'm okay with it because it's a way
for them to get the exposition out. Yeah. It
has never really bugged me. I mean, he did a
lot of beeping in this last episode, but... It's
never really bugged me too much, and how about
him just owning ratchet? Yeah I'm like ratchets
like way bigger, but with the power of Megatron
inside him. He was beating the crap out of him.
He's like whop whop down bitch Exactly I don't
know it was a good episode. It's a good way to
bring Megatron back. I loved Starscream's lines
throughout this. I mean he he starts off as the
Traitor is Starscream we all know and love at
the beginning ranting and raving and then you
know of course gets caught but He's like we can
keep this quiet He's like I'll be your second
-in -command. He's like yeah, okay and Later
in the episode Starscream uses an a team line
Yes, I love it when a plan comes together. I
know and I started laughing I'm like oh, that's
such a cheap throw in but it was great We so
I so have to find Steven blooms information.
I have to get that we have to get him on an interview
Yeah, have him say I love it when a plan comes
together star scream, and then he says listening
to geek cast Yeah But then he's like Lord Megatron
you are healed praise y 'all spark. It is a miracle
and then Megatron's like oh It's a miracle alright
star scream if you survive what I have planned
for you. Yeah That was just good at Welker goodness
Frank Welker goodness And I still love the way
that he's adapted g1. Oh, I know it's it's a
nice update. It's allowed to still do it, but
it's more More in his voice range than the original
is now. Well, you know We all have to understand
is you know g1 was almost 30 years ago That's
a long time to keep a voice the same guy has
aged, you know I mean Frank Welker has grown
up since then and I'm not trying to insult the
guy at all I'm just saying that you know things
have changed voices change and He even said in
the BotCon stuff. Was it last year the year?
Yeah, it was last year that he had to change
the voice because It hurts his his vocal cords
to do it in that higher octave. So he had to
make it lower and it It's awesome. You can still
kind of hear the old g1 version But it's still
unique to this cartoon, and I absolutely love
it Yeah, I think really where you where you can
hear it is if is when he says classic lines I
Really I said this last week, and I know Kevin
will like this I don't know if you listen the
last week's episode, but I said last week that
When optimists goes in in the in the six month
sick mind episode the optimists Illusion went
one shall stand one shall fall. I was actually
hoping that Welker would have done. I will crush
you with my bare hands So what do you guys think
about the where it's going though from here Have
you guys looked at the next episode descriptions
and stuff like that? Yeah, the Shadow Zone thing.
I actually saw the extended clip. No, I'm not
even talking about just that, but Operation Breakdown
and Criss Cross and aren't those the... Yeah,
I've looked at them. I don't remember really.
It appears that they're bringing... Well, obviously
the next episode talks about Skye Quick coming
back for a second appearance. Operation Breakdown
talks about... The Autobot saving breakdown who
has been taken by Silas and his agent so they're
bringing that character back Yeah, and then the
very next one talks about air arachnid Plots
for revenge against RC and Jack in negotiating
with Silas Yeah, so it seems like they're bringing
a lot of people back sky quick arachnid Silas
and I'm kind of interested to see where they
go with all this I'm interested to see how Whether
he put it in himself or whether see I don't think
I don't see like what with the preview that they
showed for the For this week's episode the one
that's supposed to be coming out. I Don't I don't
see Megatron punishing Starscream by throwing
dark energon into him. That's not a punishment
That's giving Starscream power. So I'm assuming
that clip that we saw With Starscream having
himself infused with dark energon. I'm assuming
he did that to himself Yeah, I can see that because
Megatron would have just like cut his arm off
or something his punishment I don't know he wouldn't
have Megatron would not give Starscream dark
energy on he had to have stolen that Yeah, we'll
find out this week. I guess We shall find out
yeah, I mean I think I Think that you know like
you guys said Starscream stole it Yeah, because
yeah, he Megatron would not ever give Starscream
enough power to defeat him or prime This is the
point where I was just waiting for Megatron to
blow Starscream and disintegrate him like we
saw in the animated movie It may come to that
though eventually Yeah, this Megatron has balls
right? Thank God we they're not real and we don't
see them, but yes he does Hit him with the rail
gun Disintegrate him. That's funny Robo balls,
but anyways I think that that about covers all
the transformers goodness from this week Are
there any particular things you're looking forward
to in the near future? I'm actually looking forward
to see what Hasbro does for SDCC this year. I
Kind of saw a news item and I covered I talked
about it in toy cast a little bit That there's
more details on transformers prime toys But there
was a little note in there that said one of the
SDCC exclusives will be a transformers prime
optimus with matrix But, I'm waiting for, and
I know Hasbro, especially the Transformers part
of Hasbro, they won't announce any SDCC stuff
until after BotCon, obviously. So, that's pretty
much what I'm waiting on, is just the stuff that
we see at BotCon. I am really surprised that
they didn't bring out Transformers Prime toys
before this, though. Because, to me, they're
missing their window for selling a lot of that
stuff. See, I disagree, though. Well, if you
think about it though, this has been going on,
Transformers Prime has been on the air since
November. Kids have been watching it for almost
a half a year now, and would have been into buying
the toys, and then the movie's gonna hit and
it's gonna completely overshadow stuff. Well,
see, that's the thing though, because there hasn't
been an official release date on any Transformers
Prime stuff, they've just said that it's coming.
And if they had started, if they had launched
the toy line back in November, which back then
they hadn't even said that there was going to
be a toy line until afterwards, basically the
way I see it is if it launched in November and
went up to May, went up to like this week when
the Dark of the Moon stuff was supposed to hit
shelves, the Dark of the Moon stuff would just
do the same thing that Revenge of the Fallen
did to animated. Right, but at least they would
have gotten all the sales in from the last five
months. Okay, I can see that point, but what
I'm hoping is is that the Dark of the Moon toys
don't spend, you know, a year and a half, two
years releasing toys like Revenge of the Fallen
did, and I'm hoping that they'll move into Prime
after the Dark of the Moon stuff is worn off.
We're gonna get Prime toys when season two begins,
probably. And honestly, I'm okay with that. See,
but I kind of agree with Kevin though. I think
that they are missing their window just because
kids would be playing with them Mm -hmm. I mean,
I'm not gonna do like a whole huge line But they
could have at least done some of the main characters.
Yeah done the main ones. I mean because I know
Back when we watched like Beast Wars and everything
else they came out before the series started
Mm -hmm, and then you had them during the show
Hey, I don't know. It's just I think it's And
look at the hype it's getting I mean it's getting
nominated for all these awards. It's you know
It's getting the press it's getting like people
are watching it, so I just feel like they were
they could have Took taking advantage a little
bit of that, but we'll see and the other thing
is you know Supposedly and you know rumors whatever
Supposedly, this is the last live -action Transformers
film Michael Bay's gonna do Supposedly, this
is the last one for a little while. So that's
why I say that I think it's I think it's okay
that they're waiting But I don't know where you're
getting that information because they said that
they are planning on doing more They're not gonna
stop this until the money stops coming in That's
what I'm saying the Michael may not come back.
Yeah, they're going to go on with the Transformers
4 Right, but what I'm saying is is that after
the movie gets released and all the toys are
out After the movie hits DVD sales, whatever
It'll probably be two three years, but it's still
going to there's still going to be one and that's
what I'm saying Yes, I agree with Kevin and the
fact that they are kind of missing out on the
past five months of stuff but because Transformers
Prime is Slated to be more than you know, two
or three seasons. They have that time after the
movie to push the toys. I can see both points,
but they're still missing it because they've
always sold up to three different lines at the
same time. And with this, that means they're
only going to sell the movie line because the
classics and everything else have been pulled
from our shelves everywhere around here. Yeah,
the Generations line has almost run its course,
which kind of sucks. It has, but I think that
there's still potential there. I don't think
it's done. It's come back four times already.
Well, no, I know, but I'm saying, like, as far
as having the stuff in, like, case in point,
Thundercracker. Every time I go to Walmart and
Target all as I see is skull grins and Dark mounts
and more for several trouble movies and blurs
and whatever else I found Thundercracker at a
comic shop, you know, so I mean It will come
back. I'm not saying it won't but I'm saying
right now Generations has run its course because
you've got dark of the moon toys coming out this
week They've had generations, they've had Revenge
of the Fallen, and they've had animated figures
on the shelf, though, for the last, like, two,
three years. So, I mean, it's... There's no reason
why TF Prime and Dark of the Moon could be out
at the same time right now. Yeah. There was another
piece of news I forgot to mention before, though,
since I already kind of brought it up. The whole
Daytime Emmy Award nominations came out, and
since Transformers Prime did get quite a few
nominations, including... Best directing, best
writing, and outstanding performer in an animated
program for Peter Cullen. So I thought that was
kind of cool that Transformers Prime got those
nods. Yeah, they got six nods and they won two
of them. Well, that kind of is misleading though.
They've won two of them that we know of so far.
Right. They could win more. Right. It's the early
releases. So they could win up to eight. Okay.
Which is good stuff. Yep. Hopefully it keeps
going. Yeah. And surpasses all the other shows.
We can hope. Yes, we can hope. So I guess we
will cut this short and, well, not short, but
just cut it off. It's before we go rambling.
