About this Episode

Steve and Mike dive into why they don't connect with mainstream sports like football, baseball, and basketball—and whether sports movies do a better job telling the story than the games themselves. They also discuss upcoming streaming services from Nickelodeon and CBS, casting news for Ghostbusters and Indiana Jones, Marvel's X-Men television prospects, and thoughts on Fantastic Four's new trailer.

Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening

to the geek cast radio network Hello and welcome

to all It's really late when we're recording

this. Yeah, we took the other mic out back and

shot him. Yep, he's dead now, that's okay. He'll

be replaced by a new gender neutral, uh, Mike

Blanchard, in a few weeks. We're gonna call him

Michelle Blanchard. Not that we discriminate.

That's a good game. You can't do that. You could

call him Grizzly Adam's Aquaman. I miss his Grizzly

Adam's Aquaman beard. Just need to give him the

spike for a hand and he's good. Or he's almost

like a fat Daniel Bryan. Now he just needs that

hand. What the fuck? The most popular wrestler

right now? What the fuck, Steve? I don't watch

wrestling. I watched it back when it was good.

You know what? I can't argue with that logic.

I really can't. But that kind of ties into what

we're going to talk about a little bit later,

but we'll tease that up right now. Keep sports

in the back of your mind right now. Well, I mean,

it's true because, I mean, wrestling was at its

prime in the 90s. I'd say it was good for the

first half of the 2000s. I quit watching by the

2000s, but that's more so because they kind of

started going off the deep end. I watched WCW,

that was what I did. Oh, after they got bought

out by WWE, that was kind of the end of it? Yeah,

that was, I was done. After the, I quit watching

after the NWO stuff. Yeah, like, we'll talk about

that a little bit in this episode, to you out

there in podcast land, because one of the things

me and Steve were talking about before we started

the show, Is how we just don't get sports anymore

as you guys know on Sunday is the Super Bowl

or Or as I call it for the three and a half hours

when Twitter and Facebook becomes absolutely

useless Because it's always go sports ball and

Whatever else and it's basically kind of like

Christmas and New Year's Eve on Twitter where

you can at like any given time It's just ready

to fail whale because everybody's talking about

it. And me and Steve were talking about like,

oh, we watched the Super Bowl, but for the commercials,

which is kind of funny from a consumer standpoint.

Well, it's funny because at normal television

watching intervals, I skip commercials if possible.

And yet here we're like, just stop playing. I

want to see the Pepsi ad. Basically. Which is,

I don't know. And I guess we'll just kind of

jump into it, eh, Steve? Sounds like it. Okay,

so years ago when I was a wee lad about 200 pounds

less, so Yeah, I'm still a fat bastard. I used

to watch the Super Bowl and in Canada as I mentioned

before we get simulcasting Simulcasting for refresher

is we get the same content the Americans get

except we get our own commercials our own local

content Substituted where as you'll see the cartoon

cat flying fighter jet or whatever. We don't

get the cool commercials in Canada. It's just

kind of the way it's always been. So I'd have

to wait until a few days later to see the commercials

and I'd always hope they'd screw up and I'd see

some of the commercials and sometimes it would

happen. But now with the internet, if there's

a Super Bowl commercial for something, wait 10

minutes. It'll be on YouTube afterwards. Or like

last year where they released them all beforehand.

Yeah, and this year Watch something there's a

YouTube channel. I watch called clever movies

and they talked about all the big studios They're

gonna be premiering trailers during the Super

Bowl and there's only one I give a shit about

it This is a big year for movies. The only one

I even give the remotest fuck about is Terminator

Genesis Everything else. I don't care about Tomorrowland.

I'm interested, but it may be a thing. I'll see

too Or three weeks after it's in theaters Kingsman

if I'm bored Kingsman's like like the the the

cheap and like cloned version of like 007 That

reminds me. It's kind of like Yeah, it's like

a comic book take on 007 mixture like Austin

Powers That's what it looks like to me I may

watch that in Tomorrowland. I'm interested as

well, but it's again. It's not something I really

care Yeah, it's not something opening night opening

week. It's not Ultron and it's not Star Wars

which speaking of those Disney's decided to not

do anything for Ant -Man or anything For Ultron

and we're not seeing anything else new there

even the big rumor was we were going to see a

Batman versus Superman trailer. Nope. They're

not showing fuck. Oh, Warner Brothers is not

showing anything, and Sony isn't showing anything.

And that eliminates my entire need to watch the

Super Bowl. And it's kind of funny. I was talking

before the show, and for those of you that are

listening to this and love football, please forgive

my ignorance. But it seems like an awful lot

of goddamn work to get three tries to move ten

yards with a ball. I don't know. It just seems

like a hell of a lot of work for not a lot of

return. Well, there is a return. It's called

brain damage. Yeah, I guess. And concussions

and broken kneecaps. See, hockey, I get hockey

is go to one end. Typically, it'll take you about

30 seconds to skate the rink and score. And it's

a lot faster paced. Plus, there's fights. Yeah,

there's fights, there's plays. It's a lot faster

to me, and I never quite saw the appeal of football.

And I don't know if that's just me being ignorant

or what, but I see these stadiums filled with

thousands of people. Hell, for college football.

It's college. Who cares? There are certain teams

that play, Steve, where their city population

doubles whenever there is a football game. That's

nuts to me. And I never understood the American

love of football. Baseball, I kind of get. It's

kind of a slow game at times, but other times

it can be really exciting. Football, I never

saw it. I feel like I'm missing out on something.

I hear people talk about sports all the time

at work, whether it's because they always have

some kind of a pool. Of money that they you know

they've done on everything so it's it's not surprising

to me that they they kind of got to the point

where they quit asking me because they're like

He's not gonna put any money in anyway But like

they they watch NASCAR which you drive in a fucking

circle for hours I Don't see the point in that

but that's just me you know never mind. We're

you know gas prices are obscenely high Let's

drive a car around in a circle for hours With

no destination left turn left turn left turn

Yeah, yeah, that's usually the only stopping

point And then you know football I just I don't

see the intent of a bunch of guys just ramming

into each other to catch a ball Whereas you know

like baseball I kind of get even because that's

that's more of a refined skilled I'm not saying

that people that play football aren't skilled

because obviously they are. I could never compete,

obviously. I'm a nerd. But to me, the only sport

that I can actually get behind is hockey, and

that's for the same reasons we just mentioned.

Yeah, because it's faster. It's more intense.

And I don't know. You know what? It's kind of

funny. Last year... Around this time actually

I started to get back into professional wrestling

and I stopped watching in the early 90s when

Hulk Hogan left the WWE and I got into it last

year because a friend of mine He's been into

it. He talks about a lot. I'm like, alright,

you know what? I'll give this a try So it was

the Monday Night Raw where CM Punk didn't show

up or basically he walked out on the company

Daniel Bryan was the hottest fucking thing ever.

Cool. And I kept watching for the year, and I

got really, really into it. Now, I understand

it sucks now. Believe me, I know it sucks if

you saw this week's Royal Rumble. And I kinda

get what I was missing. Like, I've gone to a

couple of house shows in Toronto. I'm actively

making plans to go to WrestleMania 32 in Dallas

next year. And... Get that I really do get the

intensity and I see people get that active about

football like Sometimes in my ignorance. I'll

go to a restaurant on a Sunday Big fucking mistake.

Um, and I see people there with their jerseys

on and their faces painted and they get really

into it and It's kind of it kind of sucks to

be on the outside of that to see Well, I I want

to play too Like, I don't know, I feel like I'm

missing something, yet with hockey, I get that.

I mean, and I'm a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, which

clearly labels me as someone who has brain damage.

Hey, I like Detroit Red Wings, but that's...

But, you see, they don't have years like ours.

No, ours won the Stanley Cup numerous times,

so... Yeah, we haven't won one since 1967. Most

of ours were in the 90s. Yeah, on your good old

Scotty Bowman. And Steve Eisenman. And yeah,

like that's the kind of stuff. See, that I understand.

And I don't know. And I see people get so into

NASCAR and stuff like that. And I guess if you're

a car guy, maybe that's it. But I see people

cheer on the drivers. And once again, that's

something maybe we just don't get. Like, what

is the skill involved? drive around a circle

for three hours like saying the Indianapolis

500 and I think 500 said how many miles I have

to drive or something and Not die obviously with

the whole crashing thing I get that I Just I

don't see the appeal and I never understood the

appeal of golf Either see going to the driving

range is fun Hit a ball, you know far you can

do it and potentially hit the guy out there in

the golf cart on a prick and I would do that

or try to launch it over the highway. I get that,

but golf on TV is just... Boring. The only time

golf was ever amusing to me is when they did

Happy Gilmore. Yep. I agree. And after that,

I was like, hey, this sucks. Like, I don't know.

And my wife, for example, she watches the Olympics.

I'm like, lady, you don't know who half these

motherfuckers are. Why do you care? And in Italy,

the Winter Olympics does have some pretty cool

shit like snowboarding and hockey. And for some

reason, I find curling really interesting. And

this is where you label me as a sexist. But there

are some goddamn hot female curlers, man. We

have this tournament in Canada. It's called the

Scott Tournament of Hearts or something. And

there have been a couple of teams in the last

couple of years. I'm like, holy shit. You're

wow. I wanna throw rocks if you get my drift.

By the way, you can send hate mail to Mike at

thisweekendgeek .net. I'm sure I'd piss someone

off. But yeah, like, I just, I really feel, Steve,

like, missing out by not being in on these really

cool clubs. And it seems really intimidating

to get into them. I mean, at least with wrestling,

they're, I don't know, that community seems kind

of welcoming to try and get you into it. Yet

with football or something if you don't know

who Tom Brady is or Tim Tebow and all these well

I mean, it's the same thing with with baseball

though. I mean and in basketball I feel like

nobody cares because I don't even acknowledge

that Because it yeah, it's it's one of those

ones that nobody cares about anymore, too But

you mostly hear about baseball and football Golf

I That's gotta be one of the most boring ass

-sports I've ever encountered. I can name three

golfers. One because of a video game, one because

of a drink, and the third one because of another

video game. Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer, and Tiger

Woods. Who are these other motherfuckers? And

Michael Jordan, who's done all of the above.

For basketball, it only seems to be really popular

in certain cities. Like, I guess wherever there's

a super hot player playing like Toronto, surprisingly

big for basketball. Miami, Los Angeles, Cleveland,

I want to say people care about Cleveland. But

other than that, fuck man, I don't know. Like,

who plays in the I know somebody named Kobe Bryant

and Somebody named LeBron. James. You asked me

to pick them out of a lineup? Fuck, man, I don't

know. I know their names. That's about it. And

basketball never seemed to get... Oh, you know

what? I thought about this. Okay, Steve. Every

sport has its movie. For golf, I'm sorry. It's

Happy Gilmore Fuck Tin Cup. For hockey... I'm

gonna say it's a tie between the Mighty Ducks

and the Disney movie Miracle, which is amazing.

Go see it if you can. I've never seen Miracle,

but I have watched all the Mighty Ducks films.

Oh, the movie Miracle is so good. So good. And

you could argue Slapshot as well. For football,

you could say Friday Night Lights, which I've

never seen, but my wife says it's awesome. Remember

the Titans? Rudy? Maybe unnecessary roughness

Baseball you've got there's a really good movie.

It's called 42. It's about Jackie Robinson as

the first black baseball player. It's really

good. Mm -hmm a League of their own was about

the women's baseball Cobb, I guess you could

say Major League one and two because Charlie

Sheen's funny as fuck Angels on the Outer Field?

I don't know. Maybe Rookie of the Year if you

want to stretch for it. I think... What is the

basket... You know what? I think the best known

basketball movie outside of Blue Chips is fucking

Space Jam. Space Jam is awesome. Bill Murray,

Michael Jordan, fighting monsters with basketballs.

If that is not a movie that deserves to be preserved

in the... Library of Congress. I don't know what

is On you Steve when I die at my funeral there

they're gonna play Space Jam But yeah, I mean

think about each sport has their movie I find

the movies about the sports more interesting

about than the actual sport themselves like for

example the movie of Rudy I think it's pretty

awesome It's got the kid from Lord of the Rings

he's a little dude wants to play for Notre Dame

football and he can't because he's too small

eventually he gets to go in for the last like

five seconds of the game so technically he played

for them and yay fun or hell and I don't know

the movies always make them look so cool I actually

I remember why I started watching football and

you're gonna think this is really stupid Do you

remember the movie Ace Ventura? Is that a trick

question? Yeah, that's why I started watching

football because of the Miami Dolphins plot in

that movie. That is like my favorite movie in

the world. I was really hoping Dolphins would

show up at some point. If that is not the entrance

of youth, I don't know what is. But yeah, like

every sports got their movie, but I can't think

of anything recently. It gets people, you know

gets their fucking boners going for certain movies.

Can you in the last five years? think of anything

I Don't think so. I think there's been some UFC

like movies I think there was one called the

contender or something and that's another sport.

I think that's really cool I mean and that's

mostly because I hung out with George St. Pierre

last year when I won that contest from like 7

-eleven whatever I thought that sports kind of

cool although brutal with all shit and I kind

of like boxing that's another sport where if

you don't know everybody's statistics and I don't

even know how they score boxing like there's

like a point system too like if you punch the

guy It's like how many times you bop him in the

face and he doesn't fall down, I don't know.

Yeah, it's weird. I'm like, how does the scoring

work in this? And I don't want to ask anybody

in public because I'm afraid I'm going to get

ridiculed. I don't know, man. It's just... And

yet you ask us to explain Mass Effect, Ninja

Turtles, Ghostbusters. We can do that all day,

no problem. We're willing to help you do it.

But... People... with sports i guess because

it's real i guess people get pissy when you ask

questions i don't know it just seems like sports

are very intimidating thing to get into i'm very

lucky when i got into wrestling and i know it's

all fake and shit or sorry as i've heard it described

as two things it's a soap opera with fighting

which is cool and the outcomes are predetermined

but the action is real when those guys take a

hit Usually take it a really hit and probably

really really goddamn hurts Funny story evidently

the big do you remember from the night? He's

a guy called edge and Christian those two guys

Mm -hmm. Okay. Well, there are two very big stars

in the attitude error coming into I think it's

Ruthless aggression or whatever. Yeah, it turns

out they're from my like town here of Orangeville

Dropped into my local college bookstore a few

months ago I'm really hoping edge your old randomly

show back up and sign my role playing game. I

have of the WWE RPG Nice, which is really weird.

They actually have to they actually have a couple

of wrestling RPGs never knew that which is kind

of weird. Um, Yeah, I don't know that I Would

love to hear people's thoughts on this I mean,

is there like an idiots guide the football that

maybe I can get into this should I get into it?

I Don't know folks See, I have no intent on getting

into any of the sports. I would like to get back

into hockey. I miss hockey. I miss hockey. That's

one of those ones from when I was a kid that

I just, for whatever reason, I stopped watching.

And it wasn't because I don't like it, because

I do. And I used to play street hockey as a kid.

I actually still have my street hockey hockey

stick in my office. Know why I stopped watching?

A strike. Yeah, I would say that's about when

I quit Karen. Yeah, I'm like man. Fuck you guys

You should be happy to be you're being paid millions

of dollars to chase a puck around and lose your

face Yeah, like you know, that's awesome. But

fuck off guys I'm sorry. You can't afford your

fifth house in Maui or something. Um which That's

the same reason I stopped watching baseball after

the Blue Jays won their two back -to -back World

Series not long after that the strike happened

yep don't care anymore and that sucks too because

i remember there was a time when i could name

every baseball player on the jays i knew all

their their like rbis and all that shit i knew

all that stuff and same with hockey i knew the

leafs like from 1989 to about 1994 i knew all

their statistics back to back i used to be able

to name all the teams in the league I stopped

caring and that kind of sucks though I mean just

to lose touch with that because I see so many

people that are our age and above They're so

passionate about it and I'm like What happened

with us because we used to be that I don't know

I guess we chose our passions kind of differently

there Those were nerds. I guess so and it just

seems I don't know. Like I said, I kind of wouldn't

mind having regular thing to get back into but

you know what if I don't have hockey or baseball

or whatever at least I've got wrestling I've

got Daniel Bryan and that's enough I guess um

another thing I'd love to talk about because

you know this I've had this pop up on my newsfeed

all week they finally announced the cast the

new female Ghostbusters Yeah, I've seen that,

too. I'm kind of curious to hear what you have

to say about it. I'm surprised people are this

pissed off. Honestly, I mean, let's just face

it. They were never going to make a Ghostbusters

3. It was never gonna happen. I mean, because

you look at the fact that Bill Murray was dragging

his feet for so long. Egon's dead, unfortunately.

Uh, you know... Ackroyd's way out of shape. Ackroyd's...

He's not even an actor anymore. He just shows

up when he feels like one of his SNL buddies

call him. Or he's promoting vodka or UFOs or

something. Yeah, his vodka. And then Ernie Hudson's

the only one actually doing something. I mean,

that's... Yeah, you call him up, he'll show up

at your convention. Not a problem. I mean, he

does that, plus he's done voiceover, so... Yeah,

so he's keeping busy, more or less. Yeah, I mean,

he's... I could see him, you know, kind of recurring

or, you know, showing up. Like, and some of the

people on my Facebook in particular, they're

like, oh, fuck this. I'm like, guys, just because

the movie exists doesn't mean the ones from 1984

to 89 stopped existing. It just means it's a

new continuity. Exactly. I mean, fuck, man, grow

the fuck up. And there is one guy and I don't

want to single him out, but I'm going to have

to. I'm putting this fucker on blast. He was

so against the casting of Melissa McCarthy. He's

like, no land whales. I'm like, motherfucker,

have you looked in a mirror recently? And it's

just, I don't get, well, people don't like her.

I mean, she's funny, but she has the right script.

I can, yeah, I do have to say that. If she doesn't

have the right script, she's terrible, but it's

not her, it's the script. Yeah, I mean, Tammy

sucked. She plays that snarky, bitchy character

really well. Yeah. And every film that she's

casted and has that kind of role, she's perfect.

Or she gets the fat person humor where, oh, she's

fat, she fell down, ha -ha. Yeah, I mean, she's

good at bringing that to the focal point and,

you know, kind of... I don't know, she just adds

this layer of something that's... I mean, yeah,

I do feel like they are shoving her down her

throat anymore, because she's in everything.

But, I can see the appeal. She did this series

years ago. She did a series called Gilmore Girls.

That's where I learned to like her. When she

wants to do dramatic, she can. And when she wants

to do comedy with the dramatic, it works. If

she can find a blend between Gilmore Girls and

Bridesmaids, I'd be okay with it. Well, I've

heard that this is going to be somewhat... somebody

from Bridesmaids is involved. Oh, he's the guy

that wrote it and directed it. See, I have a

feeling that this movie, despite what people

say, you know, haters or whatever, yeah, I can

say I wasn't particularly thrilled with an all

-female cast. Like, I did feel like they should

have at least had one male in there somewhere.

I don't have a big deal with it. I mean, who

cares? As long as it works. Yeah, I mean, and

that's kind of the point I got to eventually.

I just didn't give a shit. I was just like, okay,

let's see what they do. Yeah, I mean, honestly,

I'm gonna reserve judgment until I see a trailer.

And this comes out next year, so they gotta start

shooting in the next few months if they expect

to make it. Well, two of those four are current

cast members on SNL. Yeah, and obviously they

gotta be somewhat funny to make it there. Well...

I find one funnier than the other, but I'll leave

that. And then they've got Kristen Wiig, who's

an SNL alumni. I'm not big on her, if I had to

pick. If her character is right, she can do it

well. I have a feeling she's going to be more

of the Egon type character. I would have replaced

her with someone else, and this is my suggestion.

Do you ever watch the show Bob's Burgers? No.

There's a character on there named Louise. She's

voiced by Kristen Schaal. And she's a comedian.

I would replace Kristen Webb with Kristen Schaal.

Once again, I'm sure someone's yelling at the

computer right now. And Bill Murray himself had

suggested Emma Stone. Emma Stone would have been

awesome in this because she's got a great natural

comedic timing to her. Well, not only that, but

she's... I just love her personality. Oh yeah,

I think she's... In addition to being beautiful

because let's face it. She's hot as hell She's

genuinely funny Like she brings a certain charm

to it. Like honestly, she was the best part of

the two newest spider -man movies. I Mean she

was she was really the only saving grace to that

whole series. They honestly Wow, she put in a

great performance man. It's too bad. Well Well,

we'll never see like a spider -gwen movie or

something from the whole spider -verse thing

going down in Marvel You know, honestly, they

would probably be the best way to reboot that.

Oh my god Marvel spider -gwen well instead of

doing Peter Parker over and over because obviously

we've gotten the The idea that they can't manage

to do a Peter Parker movie Properly either spider

-gwen Jessica Drew who I think is spider -woman

or give me miles Morales, that would be fucking

sick. But back to Ghostbusters. And the other

cast members from SNL I'm okay with, like honestly,

I kind of want to know what the storyline's gonna

be. Like, in my dream world, they'd fight Cthulhu.

Just bam, here's my money, all of it, take it.

I don't know, I'm really looking forward to it,

man. I mean honestly, I haven't seen Ghostbusters

on the big screen in like a couple years. Like

one of my local cinemas will show it every so

often around like Halloween or something. So

it'd be pretty friggin' sick to actually see

this come together. And I hope it's so successful

it shuts the haters up. I really want it to be

amazing. And you know what, like I was gonna

say, It's not going to take away the original

two. It's not going to take away the TV series

or the video game Whatever else it's going to

be a new content. It's going to be its own thing

and Just let it be awesome. If that's the way

it's going to go. That's where it's going to

go party on Maybe now if it works out to be successful

We'll get sequels more often as opposed to 25

years apart or something, you know Yeah The other

casting news, they're talking about getting Chris

Pratt for Indiana Jones. I'm so totally behind

this. I would... I could definitely see that.

I mean, it'd be awesome, especially because he's

in great shape. He's got that natural comedic

wit. And he's an action hero. I mean, if he proved

it was Star -Lord, he's gonna be the New Jurassic

Park dickhead. Come on, he has raptors! working

for him that's cool enough um honestly that's

inspired casting too just man i mean disney has

a juggernaut on its head especially if it can

pump out new indiana jones movies like every

three or four years or every five years or whatever

it's gonna be awesome fucking hey man because

harrison ford's practically in a fucking exo

suit now he's so old um Yeah, I don't see how

they... I mean, maybe pass the torch to him or

something? I mean, if they want to move Indiana

Jones into the current day? Well, I heard that

they wanted to pull like a James Bond with it.

Yeah. They want to do, you know, so that they're

not pigeonholed into having the same actor stuck

in it. Yeah, like I think that'd be really cool

especially if they did it like that and have

them do new things they can do new time periods

or Whatever. I mean one thing I'd love to see

is Him do something a little bit more supernatural.

I mean He I mean we had the religious with the

Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail I guess

mystic not totally supernatural. I consider those

two different things really with um the guy who

ripped up your heart from temple of doom aliens

i'd like to see him take on something more weird

man like i mentioned cthulhu earlier i'm not

saying he should go fight cthulhu or you know

any of the cthulhu mythos monsters gonna be really

cool to have him go into some haunted tomb or

something and encounter like a legit monster

and he has to run from it or figure out how to

beat it or something I'm not saying it has to

be doing like a rubber suit, but that could be

really awesome You think about all the pulp novels

from the 30s and 40s that had people doing that

that sort of shit Yeah, oh my god, my wife just

said it that's kind of a really cool idea she's

like Indiana Jones and the Minotaur I mean think

about if Indiana Jones had to go to Greece or

something and descend it to them the Minotaur's

maze to find like a fountain of youth or something.

How cool would that be? That would be awesome

and then think about this and he actually runs

into a guy Proclaiming to be Hercules or a Greek

god or something and he's like and he's like

who are you? Mystery and myth and then just disappears

or some shit like that. I'm saying that could

be fucking awesome My god Disney if you're listening

Hey, don't, don't joke about that. Disney's been

known, everybody's been known to steal ideas

from me before. That would be so fucking cool.

I'd be like, I don't care if I get paid for that.

That's awesome. Um, and then it'll be the story

I can tell. A cocktail party is that no one will

ever believe. Um, I don't think of what else

that's really gonna happen this week that's sort

of in the, I give a shit land. Uh, hmm. They're

talking about a GoBots movie. I hope they don't

do that. I like to see them do go - if you're

gonna do GoBots, do animated first. See if it's

at least something that's gonna grab traction.

Before you commit all these hundreds of millions

of dollars of resources. Spend a couple million,

make a really cool animated miniseries like 12

episodes. If it catches on, it catches on. Because

I like some of the characters in GoBots. I mean,

I always thought side -kill. Was pretty awesome

a saying with chopper and what the hell was the

name of the black car that kept laughing? I Don't

know And then there was turbo on the go bots

leader one who was the jet? scooter was the scooter

and That's all I can remember and they had that

weird walking command center, which is actually

one of the few vintage toys You can get complete

inbox sometimes even sealed for like 60 bucks

I've always wanted one because it looks so cool

And if you open it up inside you can actually

get like an oil shake and like a nuts and bolts

burger There's like a little food shop. It's

kind of funny So yeah, they're talking about

that Thinking here man, I'm really thinking Allowing

to look at your notes perhaps something will

be there that will inspire Could be. Because

that's how we roll up in this motherfucker. Oh,

let me see, so... Oh, they're talking about X

-Men on TV. What do you think about that? Depends

on how they approach it. If they do it like,

if they do it like Generation X, do it as Xavier's

School for Mutants, have the regular X -Men be

teachers there? I'm okay with it. And follow

Young Iceman, follow Jubilee, follow the younger

X -Men. I think that'd be really cool. And for

big episodes, maybe Wolverine comes on, or maybe

Cyclops comes out of his office and works with

them to defeat the blob or some shit like that.

That could be really cool. And it doesn't have

to be super effects -heavy in terms of them fighting

sentinels every week. I mean, it could... legitimately

approach it like with real human drama, like

say heroes, and have them going to Xavier's school

for mutants, have them learning into their powers,

stuff like that. And it could be really cool

and save the special effects budget for mid -season

finale and season finales. I mean, in the original

X -Men animated series, the one by Fox, not the

pride of the X -Men, In the first episode, they

had sentinels, and they were hunting down Jubilee.

If you could adapt the beginning of that into

the pilot episode, it could be really cool. And

maybe at the end of the season, they meet Magneto

or something like that. Maybe the threat throughout

the first season, or even someone like, say,

Mr. Sinister, who's maybe kidnapping students,

committing genetic experimentations on them or

something like that. It could be really fucking

cool, and you could do stuff that won't conflict

with the current X -Men continuity, or, if they're

really smart, figure a way to have the next X

-Men apocalypse, and this X -Men take place in

the same universe. If they could somehow figure

that shit out. Not impossible. I think it could

be really awesome, but they need a budget for

it, and it's gotta be big. Like, we're talking

Marvel big. If not bigger. And if Fox has got

the money behind it, I don't think they have

any shows right now that really demand a huge

budget. I can't, actually, what the fuck are

they even showing? Okay, they got Gotham. Yeah,

but that's not a huge budget. That's a city.

That's a cap show. I can't think of anything

else. They've really got Sleepy Hollow, and that

show sucks. There's not really much there. I

mean, they keep canceling all the shows. Yeah,

so Fox, man, put the money behind it. If you

realize these comic book properties are going

somewhere, do something with them. I mean, fuck,

that could be really awesome if they handle it

right. But it could also end up like Mutant X.

And that would suck. So I don't know. It depends.

If they have the right person heading it, they

have the right budget, and they don't try and

whack you off with too much Marvel fan service.

I mean... give us established characters give

us a new spin on them like i don't need to have

like here's the new character we invented the

show you should care about them no give me oh

sunfire give me iceman give me i'm trying to

think of other give me um holy fucker i'm thinking

here fancy yeah give me the young versions of

these characters and if you want to make it Why

don't they just turn it in? Do you know how they

could do it? They could just turn it into one

of those teeny -bopper shows where, you know,

it's the, you know, they could almost pull a

smallville with it and have Xavier's school for

the gifted and then have everybody when they're

young, like Cyclops, you know, Storm, Jean Grey,

like all of them when they're younger going through

school. You know what might not be a bad idea,

but you'd have to adapt it so, so much, if you

somehow could live -action X -Men evolution.

that series was really good when you watched

it um yeah i mean honestly there's sky's the

limit here and they could do so much with it

i just hope they don't drop the ball and if they're

going to involve the entire x -men universe do

it and do it right i mean you own the rights

to all these characters oh do something they

can also involve x -force characters um think

of other things they have license to um just

you know don't be afraid and take the chances

i mean obviously if the x -men show has the potential

to make agent carter and agent shield look stupid

if they go nuts with it because people love the

x -men it could be really awesome and i know

marvel right now is trying to downplay the X

-Men and mutants right now. That's why they're

trying to populate the Marvel Universe with Inhumans

right now. Yeah, because they can't use the mutants.

Yeah, because they're like, oh, fine. We'll make

them look stupid. Mutants suck. Like, Inhumans

is kind of stupid, too, but whatever. Terror

to the Mists. Fuck you. Anyway. Let me see what

else you talk about in your document of love

here. Your love letters to me here. Evidently,

Zachary Quinto's not coming back for heroes.

I don't blame him. Well, why would he? He's already

done his run. I'd like to see them give some

resolution to Sylar or something, but I guess

he's an anti -hero, maybe? I don't know. I mean,

that show got so confusing by the end. It just,

it was bad. It didn't know what it wanted to

fucking do with itself, and that sucks. It's

funny you and I talked about this a few weeks

ago we were talking about Subscription services

for older TV shows and shit like that Nickelodeon

decides to come out with their own video service

that happens in like February I Hope they have

an app Because if I can get it on ps3 and it's

like five bucks a month all all sign up for But

I want their older catalogs definitely since

you found this story What content are they offering?

For the Nickelodeon They are going to offer It's

starting in February it's going to follow the

example of HBO They're going to have It says

mostly catered to children Obviously since most

their stuff's Nickelodeon They don't really say

what they're going to have It launches in like

a week why does this not sound like a good idea,

but it's It says that um Yeah, there it doesn't

even I don't even think it says how much it's

supposed to be Because they're mentioning CBS

is moving to an all -access subscription video

service in the same month Which will make current

in class programming with a few restrictions

available for a monthly fee of $5 .99 What you're

gonna start seeing I haven't I'm making a guesstimate

here people are going to kind of stray away from

like the Netflix and the Hulu Because these channels

and these contact providers are going to start

making their own channels kind of like HBO and

WWE and and now with Nickelodeon CBS You're gonna

probably see a bunch of these go, you know for

$5 .99 $10 .99 $6 .99, you know all these different

under $10 kind of deals and you're gonna end

up paying the same amount as cable with a hell

of a lot more Return on it, but you'll be getting

all the channels you want in an a la carte system

And somebody's going to eventually come up with

a box that pulls all of these in one machine

Which they really could do now. It's just Someone

just has to make it work Well somebody has to

get the licensing for all the different deals

in the box kind of thing or I mean really you

wouldn't have to do much because It's no different

than buying a modern blu -ray player right now

where they've got all you know like a Sony one

for instance where you have all the different

apps in there and they have a hulu they have

you know the crackle they have the netflix they

have you know youtube i mean so i mean it's just

be a matter of signing up for what you want yeah

i mean i'm just kind of looking at a couple of

the different stories now it doesn't say what

when it's going to launch they say next month

but they're it'll come with its upfront meetings

when it meets advertisers now if they can put

it on PS3 PS4 Xbox, you know the typical services

I Might sign up for depending if they offer their

older content from the 80s. Yep. Here you go.

Here's my money take it Because I want you can't

do that on television I want hey, dude, I want

Clara Clarissa explains at all I want are you

afraid of the dark? Really? The only way you

can get any of that stuff right now is buying

it through shop factory. Yeah, I have showed

factory occasionally some of that shit shows

up on Netflix But yeah, I mean, honestly, give

me the older Nick content. Yeah, like two of

my favorite Nick shows, they weren't originally

developed for Nick. I think they were developed

in Canada, but whatever, was a show called David

the Gnome, Maya the Bee, and there was this other

show. It was something called Cities of Gold.

And it was about these two kids that flew around

in this Aztec -like airship. and they're looking

for some lost city of gold. It had just this

amazingly cool intro. If somebody knows what

I'm talking about, please post it in the comments

because that show was fucking harsh. Yeah, like

seriously, I would pay for that. I mean, honestly,

dude, I would cut the cable to my... I would

go right back down to the basic internet. I would

go right back down the basic cable if I could

get all the networks a la carte. Well, yeah,

honestly who really wants to pay all that money

just first for crap that you're you might occasionally

watch yeah, like honestly all I need is like

a sports channel for watching wrestling a news

channel my local affiliates the weather network

and everything else I can get online from Like

I don't know. I mean, I think really cool, especially

if they offer more with the web content if they

said hey Here's an extra 15 minutes to this week's

Agents Shield available only to ABC Go subscribers.

Here's my money. Here you go. Like that would

make it so much more enticing. Now, that's going

to fuck over some cable companies. Oh, God, yes.

But considering it's all going online anyway,

like we discussed a few episodes ago, the network

advertising model doesn't work anymore. It hasn't

worked in years, honestly. Yeah, I mean, it's

all as you go on -demand content. And I think

that's great. I mean, I don't like being a slave

to a schedule. I mean, I love how Netflix, when

they release a season of a show, here you go.

Here's all the episodes. Party on, bitch. But

then again, I guess that really wouldn't work

for traditional shows. You know what I mean?

Like, there has to be those weeks off. But hell,

if I could pay $10 a month or whatever for ABC

shows, And if I could get all the episodes of

season two shield, that's cool. It will never

happen, but that's cool. It's too tied into how

they have to tie it for movies and such, so I

get that. Let's see, what else are you talking

about? Well, there's the information that they're

finally making a Jetsons movie. I don't care.

The time to do that would have been in, like,

the early 90s. Yeah, well, they've been arguing

about it for decades, so... That's so stupid.

I would have much rather had a Jackson's movie

than the fucking Flintstones. You know, I wish,

because I would have preferred that as well.

That's just me, personally. Alrighty, uh... IGN

is ranking their top 100 video game weapons,

which is actually hilarious because we're here

doing the top 100 video games. Just trying to

think, what would be my top three video game

weapons? The Lancer from Gears of War, Mega Man's

Mega Buster, Master Sword from The Legend of

Zelda, and to make that a top five, Mario's Fireball.

Think of what's another cool -ass weapon? Thinking

here, maybe Samus's arm cannon or the morph ball

From Metroid you can almost argue her whole suit.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, if you get to argue Whatever

the various suit or whatever the fuck it's called

Yeah, yeah. All right. I would agree to that

Actually, there was one thing Some of the guys

from the Shinema are done this week the guys

from inside gaming They're done with machinima

and that totally sucks They were some of my favorite

content providers on machinima. They did a Lot

of really really neat stuff over there. They

cover like what's going on in the gaming industry

Reviews and stuff. So it's like Adam Kovac Bruce

Green and all those guys sir lark Lawrence or

sir Laura's he's on Twitter They don't know what

they're gonna be doing next and that kind of

sucks because even the people over at IGN I know

a lot of their heavy hitters left in the last

couple of weeks, too I know they've gone to like

the a couple of the guys have gone on to do their

own thing through like kickstarters and Other

online subscription based services. Yeah, I mean

the web is changing yet again And I think you're

gonna see a lot of these big providers go away

like not well not really go away, but kind of

not be in the front of The web yeah, I mean cuz

like IGN machinima like all these big heavy hitters

right now I think people are kind of sick of

them honestly Because there's two shows that

I like from Well, like I like aspects of some

of those companies, but I think the thing about

it is these networks tend to handicap them on

what they're allowed to do and they get tired

of it so they move. Yeah, like IGN, I remember

when they used to be really, really good. You

mean when they actually did gaming? Yeah. But

I do like their coverage of other media. I mean,

to be fair. With Machinima, one, there are two...

shows I watch, it's called Machena ETC, which

is just random shit and like the weekly news

dump. There are these two guys and I think they're

hilarious. And there's these other guys called

Steven Larson. They do this thing called 10 for

the win, friendo cast, which is like their podcast

and all these other really weird lists and just

their sense of humor. It's so juvenile. It's

so me that I totally dig it. And I hope they

continue to produce content because if they ever

stopped doing stuff at machinima that's an automatic

unsubscribe like i i don't care anymore um well

like one of the uh um i'm trying to think uh

one of the things that i i watch that machinima

does really the only thing i watch that they

do is the bat in the sun oh yeah yeah because

To me the rest of it doesn't matter And even

then that's just an affiliate thing too Yeah,

it's not even them really. It's I just I I enjoy

the content So I watched that but other than

that, I don't really give a rip. I mean, I watched

some stuff From Rooster Teeth to be there another

large network. I haven't really I haven't checked

them out yet, but I know some of the people that

have moved from other networks Yeah. I watch,

um... There's a guy over there, his name's Michael.

He does something called Rage Quit. I love that,

because it gets so fucking angry. Um, I watch

that. I watch Achievement Hunter when I want

to figure out how to do something for a game.

I've never watched a video podcast, and I've

only truthfully watched ten minutes of Red vs.

Blue. And I don't know, and I know that's their

thing. Hm. Just never... And it's funny, because

I'm a huge Halo guy, and I just never... Blew

up my skirt for whatever reason and I met them

at Pat's East a couple years ago. I'm like, hey

man already on Griff Well, it's actually funny

because you you produce video content sometimes

and You don't watch It's just kind of one of

those things I guess um I lost my shit Let me

see. What else did you talk about? What nuggets

of knowledge did you drop on me this week? I'm

looking at the stuff for tech this week. Is there

anything we give a shit about? Well, I guess

Delaware wants to be the first state to offer

virtual driver's licenses. Unless I can change

my name to Captain Dingus, I don't care. Captain

Dingus. That would be awesome. License the registration,

please. Is your name really Captain Dingus? You

bet it is. My name's better than yours. True

story. A couple years ago, I was going to change

my name to Captain Awesome Laser. And my wife

said no. Honestly, I would have had the forms

filled out if I didn't ask her to mail them.

Oh, we talked about moving the ship. She probably

shredded them for you. Oh, OK. Fantastic Four.

You seen the trailer? Yes. What do you think?

I'm not really sure. I'm kind of interested.

I'm thinking, all right. This could be legit

kind of awesome. I'm kind of interested, but

I'm not really, I don't know. I'm not really

all that invested. It gives me this whole interstellar

hard science vibe from it. Yeah, I mean, don't

get me wrong. I do care. I do care, but I don't

at the same time. Mostly because I don't want

to get my hopes up one way or the other. I'm

giving my hopes up because I'm hoping that they

get their powers from the negative zone. That

is what's gonna happen. And it looks, and I'm

hoping they set up Dr. Doom but don't use him.

Give me Annihilus or Kang the Conqueror. And

you've got my money. Because I'm thinking all

right if you're gonna be serious with and I have

people on my Facebook The page is like fantastic

four is not supposed to be dark and you like

have you read some of those comics man? Like

Jesus Christ uh -huh I'm thinking it could be

legit awesome if they approach it right, so you

know what? The guy who directed kick -ass said

it was cool. He's seen like a first cut of it,

so you know what all right? I've seen the trailer

and I'm interested so I'll be there opening weekend

in June Because you've got my attention now.

Let's see if if it's gonna pay off I'm like I

said, I watched it. I'm kind of okay with it.

I'm just not really sure what To think about

it yet. Yeah, and I don't want to be a douche

about it either. So I'm kind of not really wanting

to Not really wanting to get into it And kind

of you know bash it or anything so I just that's

why I kind of just kept away from it I mean,

I wanted to bring it up But it's just I I do

feel like people are giving it some unneeded

That's a little kind of fucked up, but you know

what we'll see what happens Anyway, I'm curious

other than that the rest of the news you got

is a lot of Stuff you already saw probably on

your Facebook sidebar actually oh Okay, there's

something I kind of want to bring up Did you

see the announcement of that plus -size model

that got signed this week? that test monster

No Okay, so in short, this bigger girl, she's

a size 22, she got signed to a major modeling

agency as a plus size model. This pissed so many

people off. She's fucking gorg, I don't get it.

Like, it's weird, like, fat person can't be beautiful

and blah, blah, blah, blah. Whoa, motherfucker.

First off, chill out. What's her name? Tess Munster.

And it just, it's enraged so many people this

week. It's really weird. There's this article

I posted. Actually, you know what? I'll actually

forward it to you, Steve, because I think I would

love to include it in the episode post. And it

talks about how people get kind of mad about

that sort of stuff because they're not happy

with themselves. And it's sort of the whole American

dream, the whole body. Body currency thing they

talked about where it's like if you're thin you

automatically are beautiful you automatically

become successful you're automatically happy

and the gym and weight loss industry gets billions

of dollars pushing this down your throat and

a lot of people end up becoming miserable while

doing it So they lash out at others and they

kind of describe it as this this person Got to

be happy and successful without achieving these

other things and it's kind of like someone cutting

in line in front of you at the movies they didn't

earn it or at least in your eyes they did and

That's why people are pissy at her and I got

the thinking man. Whatever happens. Just be happy

for people man like Why you mad bro? Why everybody?

Why everybody gotta be such an ass? I don't get

it, man. I want people to be happy. And I know

someone had posted weeks ago how they wanted

this show to be more positive and more happy.

And that actually kind of kind of resonated with

me. Man, I wish more people could apply that

to the world. Like, your life isn't that bad.

Be happy. It could be a lot worse. You could

be eaten by a dinosaur or something, you know?

That'd be really apt up. Yeah. But, you know,

it's a lot of... Ladies, oh it'll happen again

Jurassic Park. Yeah, like people y 'all need

to chill the fuck out. I think It was Eddie Murphy

that said it best. I think this is how I'm gonna

end the show is Have a coke and a smile shut

the fuck up That's great Wow I don't even know

what to say to that. I don't think you should

say anything, Steve. I think it's time for us

to say good night. Alrighty. Just briefly, I'm

going to bring up the listener feedback because

there's only a couple from last week and then

we can close. Where's the question? I asked,

are you excited for the changes to Windows by

Microsoft or do you not care? And then I put

if you could have any versus film of any character,

so would you pick to the death? Who would win?

The Microsoft question got answered with the

following. Andre says, I have to give Microsoft

credit for allowing to upgrade for free. After

the last installment of Windows, there's no place

to go but up. Which is true. They keep making

a big deal about how their system is the same

for every device, but who really uses Microsoft's

other devices besides Windows. And then he says

why does my computer have to suffer so it can

look like an okia phone I will never buy And

then Justin says for the versus films I still

hope they make the newborn film with Jeremy Renner

and Matt Damon I'd like to see those two square

off It would be pretty badass, but I've heard

that runners not gonna be in the next film. It's

just gonna be Matt Damon They should have to

team up to fight James Bond and Jack Bauer Maybe

that'll be a bat in the sun thing that shows

up. Oh my god If someone could make a Jack Bauer

versus Jason Bourne movie take my money It'd

be hard to figure out who'd win that one. Jack

Bauer would break his neck. He wouldn't even

hesitate. He'd shoot him. I Don't know they're

pretty pretty both of them are pretty formidable.

I think it'd be a kind of a close call there

You know what that should be our question of

who wins Jack Bauer, Jason Bourne and who and

why? I like it. Alright, folks, you better cheer

for Team Jack. Because we're out of time. I'm

going for Jason Bourne. Oh, the Jack attack.

No. Hour of Bower. Hour of Bower. Nice. Right.

Kneel before the throne of Bower, man. That's

messed up. So, thank you for listening to Altered
