About this Episode
Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening
to the geek cast radio network Hello and welcome
to Altered Geek Unlimited episode 67. I'm your
host Steve Megatron Phillips and joining me this
week is Mike the Birdman Dodd and Mike TFG1 Blanchard.
I feel we should all be wearing Eddie Murphy's
jacket from Beverly Hills Cop. Man, if you can
find one of my size, I'd totally do that. The
big red leather jacket? No, the the 67 jacket
that he had. Obscure, but I like it. Yes. As
Jim Carrey would say, I like it a lot. Thinking
of that, I hear that movie sucked. I've heard
mixed takes on it. I've heard that the film was
terrible, it was too long, and it seemed like
they weren't as dumb as they should have been
to kind of coexist with the original film. I
heard it was basically the first film redux.
I heard that but I heard that it was also a lot
of the there was no real I mean there was evolution
but not really real evolution of it I don't know
and I have not had the chance to see it yet I
really want to see it only because I like Jim
Carrey it has nothing to do with the fact it's
a sequel I watch every one of Jim Carrey's movies
so That's that's my reasoning for wanting to
see it. It doesn't hurt that it's a sequel to
dumb and dumber even though It's probably going
to suck. I'm just gonna have to shut my brain
off and just watch it laugh but Should be interesting
anyway So else you've been out to Steve After
our all things transformers bout Oh when we recorded
the clip show. Okay. Yeah. Yeah We did the clip
show and then we talked about master Galvatron
and other things. I did not find him I it's like
I told you 20 minutes after recording the show
I didn't give a shit and I went on to something
else. Yeah, I Rebuilt product on Empire Okay,
so Mike doesn't know what's going on here Monday
night this week Steve and I recorded ATTF version
2 .0 episode 49 we we had It's maybe your show.
I know I'm just saying, you know, uh, so, um,
basically what I wanted to do since we're ending
the podcast that episode 50, uh, in total, not
counting interviews or any other special episodes,
Steve's ATTF podcast over six and a half years
has had 108 episodes. Um, and this year, because
it is the 30th anniversary of transformers, we
did episodes 35 to 40. 35 to 40 were talking
about the different franchises and all this and
all that and everything else and I'm you know
I said to Steve well episode 49 I don't know
what we're gonna do let's just do something funny
and silly and actually you know have a this was
your podcast or that Steve Megatron this was
your life kind of thing and I went back over
about three and a half months ago and selected
ten different clips out of the 108 episodes.
And I wanted to really reflect on the beginnings
of all things Transformers. And that podcast
is about an hour and 10 minutes, I think, something
like that. So an hour and 10 minute clip show
basically, you know. we would talk and then a
clip would play and then we would talk about
the clip that played and everything else so it's
a nice little fun you know ride down memory lane
so that that was interesting um for me i have
been recording my ass off this week quite literally
um uh yeah uh i am in uh Pre -production on our
Jim review podcast with my friends lady wreck
and Beatles divas So we are gonna be doing that
that's gonna air sometime next year for Jim's
30th anniversary on GCRN I'm also I also this
week recorded with JT from Saskatoon because
we did a Review for a geek cast radio on Nickelback's
new album no fixed address and before anyone
groans or anyone says anything Let me just say
that this album, you know, everyone complains
that Nickelback, it sings the same damn song
every album. There are no, well, there are some
songs on here that do sound like we have, you
know, what we've known almost over 20 years now
of Nickelback being around, but there are a lot
of songs on here that I, didn't think they could
pull off. First of all, one song features Flo
Rida of all fucking people. And I just don't...
Is that a Tupac joke? This is where I say, wow,
Nickelback, you're really kinda scraping the
bottom of the barrel here if you're trying to
get him involved. At least, if you're gonna involve
hip -hop... Artist man get jay -z get someone
classy not this flow writer looking motherfucker
It's I don't know no fixed addresses. It's alright.
It's it's not a horrible album But it's very
different from like their their evolution for
me has pretty much been you know you know really
hard Sounding rock in the beginning all the way
up to say the long road the long road It kind
of got more poppy and all the right reasons kind
of had a mixture and everything else and they
sold out became radio -friendly Well a little
bit, but the difference is there's hardly any
songs on this album About drinking and sex. Oh,
so they they actually did something good for
one. Well, there is one song called Get Him Up.
It's... It's about erectile dysfunction, right?
No, no, no, no, no, no. No, they did it in like
the old, what was it, Stone Temple Pilots or
Rolling Stones or something. They get it up.
No, no, no, no, no. It's called Get Him Up. It's
basically this weird narrative about... Guys
who want to be bank robbers, but it's fucking
Sunday and the bank is closed and the cops catch
them anyway It's I Like the album I didn't think
I was gonna like it at first but there are some
really really cool tracks on it at least so So
that's what I do what huh? Oh So that's that's
what I've been up to actually the one of the
thing for we let Mike talk I interviewed since
this past Wednesday as of this this airing of
the podcast this past Wednesday November 19th
is the 20th anniversary to the day of Spider
-Man the animated series coming on television
and I sat down and interviewed John Semper Jr.
Who was the head story writer and producer of
the series? And that was an hour and four minutes,
I think. It's a really interesting interview
because he got his start at Hanna -Barbera. I
mean, he was, you know, he was on 13 Ghosts of
Scooby -Doo as his, you know, story editor, or
not story editor, but a writer, and he wrote
two episodes of that. So that's a really cool
interview I think everyone should check out,
but that's pretty much what I've been up to.
What about you, Mike? What the hell is going
on in Canada besides the snow? Oh, well, I'm
up to my ass in game reviews. Holy shit, I forgot.
I thought October was bad? No, I forgot the third
week of November was fuck you, you don't have
any time. This week, I received Grand Theft Auto
V on Xbox One. I got Assassin's Creed Rogue,
which I haven't dug into yet. Super Smash Bros.
Wii U, which I've been playing for two weeks.
Dragon Age Inquisition. WWE 2k15, I'm still working
through Grand Theft Auto, or not Grand Theft
Auto, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Pokemon
Omega Red and Sapphire or something, the new
Pokemon game anyway, and I wanna say I'm missing
more. All I know is sleep is not gonna happen
this week, and my lord, it's, you know what,
this is probably one of the worst lunch. Windows
I've experienced in a long time Because multiple
games I've had are broken on day one I played
Assassin's Creed unity last week and into this
week and I Didn't have as many technical problems
as other people did but the fact that Ubisoft
had the issue of press release to the BBC definitely
says something WWE 2k15 is having as of this
recording is having massive pickups with its
online services and unlocking crap. So I might
just attribute that to day one garbage. But it
just seems like every major game is having a
bullshit release this week. I'm really hoping
when Smash Brothers comes out over the weekend,
because it should be coming out today as of because
this comes out on Friday. Yeah. Really hope Nintendo
doesn't have any trouble. I don't suspect they
will. But. Other than that, I'm writing my first
article for a magazine, which is pretty cool.
It's going to be on role -playing games. I should
be talking about the licensed RPG. I mean, if
you don't know the Lord of Dungeons and Dragons,
fine. Check out Doctor Who or the Marvel Universe
or something like that. So I should be talking
about that. That should be in CNG Magazine, I
think, next month. So look for that. I'll probably
talk about it the next time when I actually have
my article submitted. Last week, I was on Comic
Book Men again when they went to BrodyCon. So
that was pretty cool. Got a lot of nice messages.
Got a few hate -filled messages, too. Nice. I
watched that episode. I didn't even see you.
I was right in the beginning. Oh. I must have
missed it. Basically, they were like, hey, do
you remember when that Brody guy came in last
year and flashed back to me for like a minute
and a half? Oh, so you weren't actually... It
wasn't a new thing, it was a clip from your original
appearance. Yeah, I was using a flashback. So
that was fun. Do I think of what else? Other
than that, working on this month's topic show
for Twig, we were going to do Twin Peaks, but
I'm not in the mood for weirdness, so I'd rather
have guys in rubber suits, and we're going to
do Godzilla movies, since it's like his 60th
anniversary. I didn't think the franchise had
been around that long. So that's a lot of fun
being yelled at in a foreign language. Godzilla!
Fuck you! Jesus Christ, giant monster! Don't
think of what else. I think that's pretty much
about it. Just a lot of video games. Oh, yeah!
Dave is back on our website now, which is pretty
cool. We record a bunch of DVD commentaries.
He's a liar. And yeah, that's pretty much been
my week, week and a half. Awesome. I hear these
rumors that you have these turtles. Yes, yes.
Thanks to my good friends over at Playmates.
Gotta thank that beauty manager over there. I
think her name is Lisa. She sent me the Walmart
exclusives for now. Bebop and Rocksteady, they
haven't appeared in the cartoon show yet. Well,
Bebop has as an unmutated person. Yeah. And they're
not bad figures. Like they're really good sculpts,
but the pose ability is a little... Shitty. Well,
it sucks though, because Rocksteady is... He's
basically a rock. He's one salt. He's like, he
has like arms. He's a brick. Yeah, he's basically
a brick. Like, he's not sitting in any vehicles,
that's for sure. He's not doing high kicks. But
the sculpt is really, really nice on him. He
has this whole Russian thing going on, which
I think is actually kind of badass. He comes
with a hammer and sickle, and on the back of
his hands, they have the corresponding symbols,
I guess, to tell you which hand. Even if it's
not that for kids that are a little bit derpy.
that's actually kind of badass, because they're
like brass knuckles. And Bebop, he's in this
weird Tron -like suit with an open chest, and
he's got his purple visor thing, which he had
when he was the Master Thief Ant on Zek, I think
was the name of the character. He comes with
a flash bomb and like a sticky bomb, so what
looks like a potato and a cell phone is the best
way to describe them. He's got really nice legs.
I don't mean that to sound homoerotic. It's just
the sculpt and the poseability on those legs,
they're really nice. The joints feel really,
really smooth. And for some reason he has wheels
on his back and on his feet, roller skates or
something. Just kind of strange. So I don't know
whether we're going to work that into the cartoon.
I would imagine maybe he has like jet skates
or something, so. Other than that though, they're
not bad figures. They're a really nice update
for the 2012 Turtles line. They're exclusive
at Walmart for the first couple of months, at
least until after holidays, and then you should
be able to find them at major retailers. They're
going to be hard to find. What do you think about
the TMNT classics? I love them. I've got the
entire set currently. That's the original ones
based on the 87 series, the ones based on the
1990, and Bebop and Rocksteady. My favorite one
is probably Raphael from the 87 line and Michelangelo
from the 1990 Turtles movie. The worst of the
line, I think, is Leonardo from the 1990 line
because he just looks like he smelled something
really bad and is just on the verge of puking.
Doesn't he have the grin face from when Shredder
had the thing to his neck? It's weird. It's kind
of like that. It just looks like, like I say,
it looks like he's about to puke and he's trying
to be really, really nice about it. He's got
the grimace face. Yeah, basically, yeah. It's
just a very attractive face, though. Michelangelo
is spot on. Like, it's such a good -looking sculpt.
Bob and Rocksteady are pretty badass too, especially
Bebop Like that like that series when they get
to Krang and Shredder I think they had promo
art or like a proto sculpt Yeah, they did for
New York City Comic Con. Yeah. Oh my god skeet
skeet that looks Amazing. I want them to do like
Baxter Stockman as a fly because that would be
so cool looking Or if they could do Kurai from
the new Ninja Turtles cartoon and give her that
treatment, that'd be badass. Even April, I don't
think it'd look badass. I really want that Krang
that's about to come out. I can't wait, and I'm
so glad I've got a good relationship with playmates
that they do semi this type of stuff. Like, the
Nick Turtles line... It's probably my favorite
action figure line in like a number of years
Like kids really get a bang out of it the fact
that they do Throwbacks to the party wagon the
turtle blip I'm actually staring at right now.
The funniest thing is is they're coming out with
the the What is it 20th anniversary or 25th anniversary
figures 25th? Yeah Well, they're coming out with
like the old, you know, you get some of the old
turtles, but they came up with or they brought
back the party van they brought back. They're
just kind of continuously sprinkling the old
stuff back in. Now, granted, I don't really like
the originals now that I look at what they can
make. Because like I bought myself my son, the
the Michelangelo figure. from the new Nickelodeon
cartoon. And he runs around the house going,
turtle. And it's to the point that he goes to
my mom's and he's yelling, turtle, turtle, turtle.
My mom turns on Ninja Turtles and he sits and
watches it. And he's like grinning ear to ear,
which is awesome for me because it gives me an
excuse to watch the cartoon. But yeah, I mean,
I really want to get the classics. I just can't.
currently afford them, unfortunately. And like
I said, the Crang is just something I really
love out of it. At least the 87 version, I don't
particularly care for the Nickelodeon ones, but
I have to agree though that the toys, that's
probably the only line I actually like at this
point. They're the only line of my toys because
I've hit a bit of a rough patch because I've
been selling a lot of my toys off. It's the only
toy line I will not sell off unless they're coming
to shut off the hydro because that's how much
I really really like them are my classics and
the new Nick turtle ones I'm actually surprised
with the with the anniversary set. They haven't
re -released the sewer play set They haven't
re -released the tech the technodrome If they
do, I could see those being San Diego Comic Con
exclusives. Oh, easily. Well, if not, I see them
being highly expensive. Yeah, that too. To the
point that just normal people can't afford them.
I picked up my Technodrome this past spring.
I got a near complete one, 95 % complete. I paid
20 bucks for it. Online, they go for at least
150 plus. And that's depending on whether they
have blocks or whether they have all the little
things inside of it. Yeah, I used to own it up
to about, I'd say, four years ago. The only reason
I got rid of it was because of space and because
I'd already destroyed the shit out of that thing
as a kid. My turtles were played hard as a kid.
you know, as a kid, because I owned everything
of it. Yeah. My favorite thing that I sold and
I'm so kicking myself in the ass. I really wish
I actually kept this piece was Krang's Android
body. Yep. I paid ninety five bucks for this
this past year. I got it on for a steal. He had
his and his antenna wasn't tapped on his head.
The glass was clear on the front of him where
Krang sat and. Figure had no scuffs on it. And
that's the one figure. I really wish that I never
gave up when I sold everything but I'm really
happy I'm happy that playmates is at least doing
that. They're respecting the collector and showing
kids. Hey, this is how things started Right,
right Let me ask you guys. Have you been watching
season 3 of the Nick show? I'm just catching
up on it now. I think the last episode I saw
where they fought, like, this plant monster that
looked like Jason Voorhees on a couple episodes
behind. Death Green's voice sounds weird coming
out of Leonardo. I'm not used to it. I've gotten
used to it. I like how they explained it in the
season premiere. I thought that was kind of cool.
Oh, he was really clever. His voice was injured.
It may never recover. Yeah. That's it won't Jason
Biggs. That's such a good job. Oh, I know he
was terrific is Leonardo like this voice cast
I I love it almost as much as I love the the
87 and to some extent I like a more yeah same
here like I'm really surprised how well Everybody
works. I mean, there's not one voice on there
that seems miscast or out of place right if Biggs
and other than crane prime Well, no. Roseanne
Barr doing that's kind of funny. She fits in.
It's funny, but she is a big blob anyway, like
with a big mouth. The only thing that I think
prevented Biggs from staying on is I think at
some point, huh? His language. Yeah, his language,
but I think it was his public fight with his
wife on Twitter that really got him the axe for
that job. Really? Yeah, I don't think so. I think
it's because he was always dropping the f -bomb
and talking about oh I'm gonna you know, it just
is a his American pie, you know kind of Really
what big of a part does he play in that he's
a fairly significant character he is but he's
not needed there Doesn't have to be in every
episode, but out of a 13 episode you'd expect
to see him like there for me at least Yeah, I
like the new season, but it's kind of wearing
on me where you go back to New York already Yeah,
well yes, and no, but they need to what they
need to do is they need to make an amalgam They
need to have an episode where we see like one
half of it is, you know The turtles training
getting ready to go back The other half is what
the hell is shredder been up to like we haven't
seen anything from shredder winner, right? Yeah
splinter, you know anything, you know, that's
really my main complaint right now and I know
they're gonna get to it because it's a 13 or
26 episode long season or whatever it is, but
it's one of those things where At this point,
I'm tired of the one -off episodes. The one -off
episodes were a thing of the 80s, dammit. Yeah,
I like how this one is maintaining a sense of
continuity. Where storytelling actually matters.
I like this one, I've only read about it. They
had the punk frogs. Yes, I've seen it. Napoleon
Dynamite as Napoleon. That's hilarious. It's
uh, it's almost like having weird Al is just
as retgar. Yeah transformers animated fire casting
for sure Clancy Brown plays Genghis and I'm not
sure I'm not sure who does Attila. I'm not sure
The the punk frogs one was really cool and I
like how they're incorporating all the the characters
and stuff like that, but it just I don't know,
man. It just seems like the story isn't moving
fast enough for me. I think it'd be cool if they
brought in the Triceratons and had them at war
with the Crane. That would be fucking awesome.
Or the Rock Soldier dudes. They've already had
them at one point though. Show us. I want the
cooler ones. I want literally the little General
Trag guy and his pointy nose buddy. What else
would be really cool to see on that show? I'm
thinking here. I'm thinking back to classic episodes
with that were really neat on the original series.
Well, I do know. At some point they'll have to
do a Venus episode. No, no, no, no. But, but
killer. It could mean something. That would be
really interesting if they did that. I could
do without her. I didn't mind her when she showed
up twice in the original cartoon. Or no, am I
thinking of the salamander? Yeah, you're trying
to think of salamander. Yeah, there was the chick
that Raphael liked. I can't remember her name.
Venus was from Dex Mutation, that's right. Yeah,
that blasphemous piece of garbage. I do know
for a fact that they are bringing in Mondo Gecko.
That's cool, I love them. They are bringing in
Mondo Gecko, and guess who's gonna voice him?
You'll never guess. Huh? Is it a skateboarder?
Um... Tony Hawk? He's no, hell no. I'm not bringing
that up. Time Cruise. Captain Planet. Uh... MRJara?
Fuck, I don't know. They are bringing in Robbie
Wriste, Michelangelo from the live -action movies
to voice Mondo Gecko. That's not bad! That's
inspiring! No, it's not bad. It's awesome. Goddamn,
I love that show. Go ahead, Steve, sorry. Oh
no, it's fine. So I think we'll move on a little
bit after that entertaining conversation about
turtles. I think we should bring up Dodds. Brush
with infamy. Yes, I can't remember when that
came about I can't remember if it was on headshot
if you were actually doing twig I Was doing twig
but Blanchard was there I think and it was a
twig after dark This was after dick Clark died
because we called the episode dick Clark's mystery
machine Oh, I can't remember why I did this but
we're talking Hey guys name a show for like me
to fuck with and I went on Wikipedia and I landed
on full house and I changed it and I think I
almost think we should read it out loud but I
think if we link it in the episode notes just
go take a look oh it's gonna be in the episode
Adam Goldberg who's the creator and writer for
the Goldberg's TV show that's funny yeah oh my
god like I've been getting favorited Retweets
all day. I actually had the the girl who played
Kimmy from the show Retweeted it too I'm gonna
read it one of her friends on Twitter had asked
me like why didn't Kimmy get a background? I'm
like, well because she was grown in a lab in
the future to go back in time from Walt Disney
Because it was the weirdest thing I could think
up like right on the spot. You only edited the
premise, right? You didn't edit the entire article.
I have plans to do a different sitcom every couple
of weeks, just to throw people off my trail.
I'm thinking about taking step -by -step, turning
it into a version of the Terminator with a nun
and a top bag of rocks. Just step -by -step chronicles.
Home Improvement's actually going to be a sword
love affair with power tools. So it'll be 50
shades of, I don't know, Binford tools. Oh my
god. 50 shades of Binford. It's going to be amazing.
And I'm also going to recast the entire thing.
So Tim Allen may be replaced by John Goodman.
Colin Taylor Thomas may be replaced by a sock
puppet. Stuff like that. So it'll be the most
amazing thing you've ever read. I figure this
may be my ticket to Hollywood vandalizing Wikipedia.
It was funny, because I think, I can't remember
if I was there or if I wasn't because I distinctly
remember you writing some of this garbage at
some point. I know you were there, Steve, when
I edited, I think it was Steve, not Steve Allen,
Robin Thicke's dad. What the hell's his name?
Alan Thicke. Yeah. And I only changed a single
line and it stayed there for months. In his personal
background, he goes, blah, blah, blah, blah,
blah, may also be Satan. and it stood there for
like three months. So the Full House premise
changed drastically. It says after Danny Tanner's
wife, Pam Grier, is killed in a collision by
the Pink Power Ranger. He recruits his brother
-in -law Robocop, a rock musician and a quirky
best friend, Optimus Prime, to raise his three
daughters, DJ Irvon and Doctor from Doctor Who.
in his San Francisco home. Over time, the three
men in a robot, as well as the children, bond
and become closer to one another. They also solve
mysteries in a van. Initially, Robocop is uncertain
if his life is going in the right direction after
making the life -altering decision to help raise
the girls. In Season 2, Danny becomes host of
a local TV show. His co -host, Rebecca... Rebecca
cigar face Donaldson starts and then it kind
of like starts going a little bit normal and
Then you start going like the family by the dog.
He's one of the puppies Finally Robocop and Judge
Reinold have twin sons Nikki and Alex It's horrible
And then the 8th season they decide to buy an
underground lair and fight crime. Batman and
Robin often co -star, but oddly enough Repal
does make an appearance as Commissioner Gordon.
They also fight their arch nemesis Rita Repulsa
in Doctor Octopus in a minivan disguised as a
bakery truck. You are fucking crazy, Mike. I'm
pretty fucked up. Yes, yes, you are. It's almost
as bad as the episode of GCR we recorded years
ago on Valentine's Day. Or no, it was Sweetest
Day. Yeah, I gotta go back and find that. That
was... Is that the time I found the really weird
port or not? No, no, no, no. This was me and
Steve, I think. We were talking about Valentine's
Day or Sweetie's Day or something. It was Sweetest
Day. Yeah. And Steve went and looked at the Wiki
article and someone had changed it to say something
completely different and then I went to look
at it and it was back to normal. So what it was
is we had two different versions pulled up and
they were within seconds of each other. Yeah.
Because I pulled it up first and he pulled it
up second so I actually screen capped it. while
it was still on my screen. And it basically was
saying that it involves men giving their wives
or girlfriends candy. And you can imagine the
the BJ card is put in there. Oh, yeah. I remember
one time I was checking Wikipedia and I was reading
the the the entry on Spider -Man 2, the movie.
I'm going to change it to this erotic Aunt May
fan fiction. And then I refresh the page and
it was gone. I wish I kept it because it was
fucking hilarious. Wow. Spidey does Aunt May?
No. Oh my god, do you imagine how much of a sex
-fiend Doctor Octopus could be? Did you not read
Superior Spider -Man? That's amazing just think
all those arms and all those dildos. Oh my god.
Okay. All right The galaxy are thinking of other
absurdities we should probably move into the
Honda commercials, okay? We go the other direction
after that In one way or the other, it still
fucks you over. That's what they're doing. They're
raping the 80s. Playing a card out of Mike's
book. So Honda is using GI Joe, Gem, and Skeletor
to try and sell cars because, you know, obviously
it's our generation that can purchase things
now. Well, guess what? I'm sorry to cut you off
here, but since This episode, since we started
recording this, right before we came in to do
this, I actually saw another one. They also are
using Gumby and Pokey. It's just not right. It's
just not right. But it's funny because you have
Skeletor standing here in Honda and he's like,
salutations! Did they actually get the original
voice actor? No, they did not. No. Why would
they cheap out? If they're gonna license the
character, go the extra mile and a half. I'm
sure he's not doing much right now. No, he just
went to TFCon. Exactly, he's just hanging out.
It's like getting Optimus Prime as a licensed
character and getting Gilbert Godfrey to do the
voice. Your priorities are just a little bit
fucked up. Yeah. It would be funny though having
them selling a truck and going, I am Optimus
Prime. Get in my cab and I'll drive you around.
That'd be so fucking cool. Or Megatron could
sell you guns. Technically, Megatron could just
sell himself a million times over. We'll just
go in the in the truck and it'll it'll uh, he'll
say I am kit You know, why is it mr. Feeney done
a car commercial for that matter? That makes
perfect sense He's not doing anything either
All they need him to do is sit in it. Yeah, just
sit there smile here's a cheeseburger since since
you guys brought this up I hate to bring the
show down but um this past weekend we actually
lost Glenn no no no we actually lost Glenn A
Larson creator of Knight Rider and various other
80s properties So he passed away this past weekend.
So that's that's what's going on there. But we
also lost the guy who was the main publisher
behind those choose your own adventure books.
And we also lost the guy that did the the animation
for like the old Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
type stuff, which is it's funny that you mentioned
that because we're talking about weird cartoons
like shill shit. And up here in Canada, I saw
like Maybe it's a Honda commercial, but it's
the Rankin, Bass, Rudolph people selling a car.
Yeah. They're like, don't you elves make toys?
They're like, we do all these too. Here's the
Kia Sorento or some bullshit. And the abominable
snowman's driving. You have to get, okay, that's
fucking weird. You say abominable snow. That
was the name of the dentist elf. I can't think
of his name. Um, Hermey. Hermey. He's like, and
it's the first class in safety. I'm like, what
the fuck? You said a bombable snowman all I can
think of is that old Looney Tunes short and I
will name him George and pet him and hug him
Please let me go I would buy a car from him because
he's too stupid to lie to me I know right and
it's broken and rusted But it gets really good
radio on star for a year I don't know like I'm
just like you think if they're gonna see I guess
That's the thing though, they're trying to pick
general cartoons that most of us remember. I
mean, look at this, we're not gonna have Matt
Tracker trying to sell us, like, a car, but we'll
get Skeletor. Don't even get me started on Matt
Tracker. Just don't even... I want T -Bob to
sell me a fucking iPhone. That's what I want.
Or Herbie from the Fantastic Four cartoon. That's
what I want. under the barbaric and sell me Slim
Jim's absurd marketing you know the best the
best marketing even though I've never eaten them
and I just don't like them the best marketing
Slim Jim ever had may the man rest in peace was
macho man No one will ever top that. Well, and
then after they got rid of him, they got that
scrawny dude that would go, eat me. Fuck that.
That's always going to be macho, man. Yeah, I
know. That's like his legacy. That was really
absurd. That would kind of make a weird kind
of sense. Let me see. Oh, I had a really, really
good one, but now it's gone. Black Widow, so
spanks. Oh, I think strawberry shortcake should
sell weight -loss products. I think that'd be
amazing. That's an oxymoron. Let's see what else
could be totally - That's like government works.
I know, right? Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash
sell oats. See, that works! No, they'll put them
on the box of horseshoes. Man, I guess Lucky
captured them. They're his new charms. No. They'll
have them on the Red Bull. It gives you wings!
Oh crap! You know what just occurs to me? Back
in the 80s, we had really weird licensed products.
I remember we had Ghostbusters cereal and all
that shit. Why don't we not do that anymore?
Because they put it on the shelf for two months
and then it stopped selling? Because I'd like
to know, why is there not a Doctor Who cereal?
a My Little Pony cereal. I mean, think about
it. You just have to put fucking Cheerios and
six different colored marshmallows. There's your
pony cereal. Done. Ninja Turtles. I'm sure there's
like a factory abandoned in Uganda that made
the stuff back in the 90s. We can start that
back up. They just put sugar and salt on it and
then It always surprises me when somebody comes
up and comes up with and finds a an old box of
Batman cereal because it's like dude. It's just
Captain Crunch It's stale as hell. Yeah Yeah,
I actually got that cereal I remember that I
I remember when they made that cereal for a while
there, they made too much of it. So they put
the Ninja Turtles bowls onto every cereal box
you could possibly find. I remember getting a
Bill and Ted cereal and it had a Ninja Turtles
cereal bowl on it. Way back in the day. I also
remember I also got a Bill and Ted tape case
that was the foam booth that would hold like
four cassette tapes. I thought that was pretty
badass. And you never get prizes in cereal anymore.
I remember you used to get the like, cool -ass
color -changing spoons. You get the color -changing
spoons, you got the lightsabers, you got the
color -changing cars, you got... Rings that would
glow or something. Yeah, I mean, granted it was
all dog snot anyway, but it was like the equivalent
of a McDonald's toy, but... It still was it still
was something interesting and Nowadays they're
like oh buy this box and three more to get this
promo code to possibly get this other item and
you have to also mail in the UPCs and it has
to be sent to this address and It's either that
or they they put like oops in the way Or they
put like a DVD to a TV show that nobody cares
about There was one I saw this was maybe two
years ago and it was you bought like I think
it was like Froot Loops or something and You
could get a John Cena. I think it was like one
of those slam city figures Yeah, that wouldn't
be Froot Loops. That would be Fruity Pebbles
or something like it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's
That's what it is. And I remember a couple years
ago, or no, this was this past year, it was,
hey, kids, do you have a smartphone? You can
take a picture with John Cena. And it was this
weird QR app that would put him in the picture
beside you using your phone's camera, which is
admittedly cool and creepy at the same time.
If you're really creative, you can do some really
funny things with it. But I don't know. It seems
to me like being a kid is a lot less fun. Well,
it's a lot more corporate now, and plus you don't
have Saturday morning cartoons. You don't have
any of the special branding. You barely see toys
get advertised anymore. A lot of the cartoon
channels are kind of in constant state of flux.
I mean, you look at Hub turning into Discovery
again, and then you look at ... I mean, you have
Cartoon Network, but it's not actually Cartoon
Network. bastardization version of it but I Don't
I don't know I think that they just it Markets
like assuming everybody's gonna have a smartphone
and everybody's gonna have this and that and
instead of trying to actually use their imaginations
they Are gonna be I don't know imagine any imagination
deficient So talking about cereal prizes that
don't measure up how in the hell is a child gonna
unless his unless his or her parents sit down
with him and do this him or her how's a child
gonna go online and enter a code to get a free
month of hulu fucking plus seriously this was
on a coco crispies box that i bought a week and
a half ago that this was a prize on the box and
i'm like what wait what seriously um The best
prizes I ever got out of Serial as a kid, I think
this was a mail -away thing. Yeah, it was a mail
-away. It didn't come in the box, but you collect
the UPCs, send them in, and we could get monogrammed,
stylized coffee mugs so it could have our names
on it or whatever else. And then Lucky Charms
was the one that had the coolest prize. Again,
you save the... the UPCs send them in you could
get a four leaf clover with your name on it and
it was like a real uh you know ceramic kind of
feeling thing it wasn't like plastic or anything
like that it was back when everyone wasn't afraid
to use glass for stuff i think the coolest prize
i ever saw from my childhood this was in the
90s when power of the force 2 toys were out from
i think it was still kenner at that point um
you bought two boxes of cornflakes or something,
and $5 .99 and you could get Han Solo in the
Stormtrooper disguise, or Luke. It was basically
just, here's a Stormtrooper, here's a different
head. So it was super easy to make. And I also
remember another one with Doritos. You could
send away and get a holographic Obi -Wan, which
I always thought was really cool. I'm trying
to think of, I remember, Just a lot of different
things. Like, do you guys remember Pepsi points?
I remember when you used to get Pepsi and you
could get iTunes codes. Yeah, there was a promo
before that, probably about five or six years
before it. And you'd get these things called
Pepsi points and you'd get them on 24 cases,
12 cases, and the individual two liters and seven
tens or whatever. And you could... save up and
get like cd cases wallets jackets hats and all
this they ran this one commercial and it was
a guy sitting in a harrier jet and it was i remember
that yeah for 14 million points and somebody
actually did it oh shit so they gave him like
a free day at like flight school or something
well Coca -Cola still does the points thing.
They've been doing it for years, and I know it's
a different company. I think it's different here
in Canada. I don't think we have that anymore.
We still have it, despite all the different marketing
attempts to get people to buy these cokes, whether
it be the Santa on the bottle or the share a
Coke with and then an insert name here. I actually
did find one with my name on it. Unfortunately,
by the time I realized my name was on it, I'd
already drank it all. I actually worked for a
grocery store at the time that they were doing
the iTunes points, and you could download a song
legally through iTunes. That's kind of cool.
I can download an HD quality version and the
only thing is you can only input six codes per
day. Well, I was a bagger so I also had the bottle
return responsibility. So I went through an entire
couple of tubs of bottle returns and loaded my
pockets with these lids so that I could get codes.
got so many damn songs from doing that i remember
up here in canada they have they had these popsicles
and i can't remember who made them but i know
the mascot was called popsicle pete and each
popsicle stick would have a point value on it
anywhere between five points and seventy five
some actually i think had a hundred and you send
in so many thousand When there are hundreds or
something you could get like beach towels I remember
getting a really cool hat and I think a CD player
out of it because I obviously I'm a fat kid or
eat a lot of popsicles There was another one
when Kool -Aid did this and this is how I discovered
how to vandalize cars To are certainly connected.
Do you guys remember a Nickelodeon product called
GAC? Yes Okay, it was this weird squishy thing
and it smelled either really good or fucking
disgusting I had an apple cinnamon one And I
discovered if you throw that on someone's car
when it's cold Bad things will happen. I Have
a dick as a child just so you know, I'm not so
bad now now. I'm just gonna key your car Yeah,
I remember saving up I think it was like Couple
hundred Kool -Aid points and back then it was
only like five or ten or maybe 25 you get which
by the way if someone out there in your audience
Could send me like five bucks worth of rock a
dial red Kool -Aid I'll ask you to be all winter
break because that stuff you cannot find in Canada
Just saying my body for you Yeah, I will. There's
nothing that I won't do. Terrible. But yeah,
it just seems like there's less prizes and things,
but there always seems to be like a promotion
going on in store for something, or it's on Twitter
or Facebook. Now, admittedly, I won a trip to
Las Vegas by texting someone by, you know, just
random decision one night, and it was with NOS
Energy Drink, which that was really cool. It's
not the same as sending in the UPC codes or write
in a ballot or something or go to the grocery
store and throw your name into a hat or something.
I don't know. It just seems a lot less fun now.
It's more technology and corporate driven than
it ever has been. Like you said, Mike, it's like,
what's five -year -old going to do with a fucking
Hulu Plus code? Yeah. Okay, so I found some info
on Popsicle Pete. He was a dirty peepee. Basically,
as we all know, Popsicle is a popular brand of
ice pop in the U .S. and Canada. It became generalized
trademark for any type of ice pop. In April of
1939, Popsicle Pete was introduced in the radio
program Buck Rogers in the 21st century as having
won the Typical American Boy contest. The character
told listeners that they could win presents by
sending rappers from Popsicle Products to the
manufacturer. During the 1940s, Popsicle Pete
ads were created by Woody Gelman and his partner
Ben Solomon. The ads appeared in print television
and commercials and activity books until 1995.
In 2014, Popsicle modernized Pete by including
him as a part of their original gang and releasing
comics, an original music video, and other content
on their Facebook page. so basically it's not
one single like it's not um like Klondike bars
like it's not popsicle pedis for any type of
popsicle as far as i can tell it was a uniquely
Canada thing maybe but still yeah i remember
these things and i remember at my school they
would sell popsicles on Fridays or something
And I remember watching the garbage cans very
closely, thinking, all right, there's 20 in that
garbage can, there's 20 in this one, all I need
to do is rinse them off. Although in the summer,
you're asking to get stung, so I'll have to sacrifice.
Do that, because fuck that, ain't no beach towel
worth getting stung a thousand times. And I don't
know, it just seems to be like the era of really
weird collectibles or Cool promos. Hell, do you
guys remember when Star Wars Episode 1 came out
and there was the Star Wars Pepsi cans? Oh, yeah.
Yep. I remember when there was the... I need
shit for those. I remember when the R2 -D2 coolers
came out. I could have had one for like 50 bucks
this past summer. My stepdad got one. Right after
the movie. 7 -elevens were giving them away,
basically, trying to get rid of them. That's
ridiculous, because those things are cool looking
coolers. Well, he kept it for a number of years
until it started leaking. And then he was like,
all right, I'm done. This R2 droid's got a bad
motivator. Oh my God. My wife had a dairy. Cool
whip freezer that was given to her from I guess
one of her friends owned like a grocery store
or something and they were going out of business
and they had that hell I remember there being
a lot more Coolers that were like Pepsi and coke
everything you I don't think you see that as
much anymore. No Well, you might see it you might
see coke kind of machine type deals in like Wendy's
and stuff because they have that new freestyle
crap. Oh my god I love that stuff! I will drive
two hours to get one of those oh my god Mike
you hit the like salivate button. Speaking of
pop are you guys into the whole surge thing that
you have to buy through Amazon? They won't I
don't think they'll ship to Canada so fuck I
don't think I ever had surge back in the day
what's it taste like? Don't know. I've never
had it either. I remember having something like
I think I had jolt jolt cola Which one was supposed
to be like the so Serge was like the Mountain
Dew of your right coke, right? Yeah, so what
is Joel Joel was basically extra caffeinated
cola The idea is it had 1 .5 times the amount
of coffee or something like that. It would give
it a more acidic taste But if you got the right
jolt, it was really good, and the cans were shaped
like batteries. So when you popped the top, you
get this really unique sound of the gas releasing
from inside. Believe me, I survived on these
things in high school and college. Lived on these
things. Basically, jolt, Steve, is what Red Bull
is today. But less shitty and cola Red Bull tastes
like piss It actually tastes like a legitimate
cola just a little bit stronger. Yeah, okay But
yeah, like and I remember Joel went in a business
a couple years ago like 2009 I think and I'm
always hoping someday someone will resurrect
the brand or something like that because it was
so good And there was like a Jolt Red, there
was a Jolt Blue, I think they had other flavors
too. Oh yeah. And the days, man I miss Jolt Cola
so much, why'd you have to bring that up? There
was another one, this was like a really weird
one, I don't know whether this was Canada or
the states either. There was a drink called Orbits,
and it was a clear liquid. but it would have
these flavor bubbles floating in it and they
were like little tapioca things or something
I don't know they were like jelly or something
and there were different flavors you'd have like
a red a blue an orange and a yellow I think and
it was really it's hard to describe what this
tasted like but it was a really unique looking
beverage than it was anything else and this is
around the time they had like the weird crystal
pepsi crap Right was okay, I guess maybe I don't
remember it being that good I've seemed to remember
a Pepsi blue that was like drinking first blue
Hmm there was a sprite remix, which is really
weird It was like how would I describe this?
If someone threw up in it. Yeah, pretty much.
Anyone else sensing the need to move on? Yes.
Just saying. Alrighty, so... I guess go ahead
and... Oh! Actually, before we go to that, since
we were on the toy bandwagon... This is also
the show notes there is this image of a Life
-size model of the arc like not life -size, but
like life -size as far as the action figures
are concerned This sob is huge It's it's the
the Autobot arc the ship It's It's the one under
the miscellaneous in film that says I thought
it was cool and then realized that those frickin'
deluxes and then it shows deluxe figures, transformers
in it and they actually made this giant model
of the Ark. Is this thing for sale or just...?
No, they made it but this sucker is like intensely
detailed. And it's not like I'm just trying to
find it in my show notes right now because my
email is huge I Like it when toy companies do
that they'll go the extra mile It's not the toy
company though. It's these people that made it.
Oh, so it's like a third -party companies. I
think it's just fans Well shit, I don't know
who made it but it's They got some deluxes and
Voyager figures in it. It's just Freaking crazy
how nice it looks. It's it's the gold ship. They've
got openings like a diorama type thing where
you can actually see the the bots and their locations
and Yeah, it's doesn't light up it appears to
oh my god It looks like it literally would take
up like an entire room Exactly So go ahead blanchard,
okay, so Steve has a news item in the news here
for Guardians of the Galaxy for Chris Pratt wants
to be on agents of shield and As we started the
show when we recorded this. I notice our good
friend from One Up Your Life, Dustin Vancour,
posts something on Facebook where as of Tuesday
night, November 18th, you could go onto Android's
website or wherever Android sells music and get
the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack for free.
What? What? It's Android. Oh. For Android phones.
That's really cool. Yep. I already have it. Yeah,
I bought the CD. It's in my car. Oh, you mean
you didn't buy the cassette tape, Mike? I don't
have cassette tapes in my car, unfortunately,
but I do have them on my stereo, actually. I
don't even have a cassette player anymore, so
that to me is not worth it. I don't even think
Radio Shack sells them anymore. Think you can
still buy the combos Stereo might have it Because
you never know if you want to transfer stuff
off of tape to mp3 or whatever I remember Chris
Pratt said he would do agents of shield if the
show required it If though I can't see those
two worlds crossing at least until after Guardians
too. Right. Go where Earth are pretty goddamn
far apart. If Quill had the ability to go back
to Earth, I think he might take it. Right. If
anything, just the visit. He'd be like, where's
my mommy? It makes sense for them to bring in
like say Hawkeye though or Iron Man, even if
it was only for five minutes. I'd like to see
Downey Jr. in an entire episode. That would be
cool. And you know, it's not like he's above
doing television either. He will do it. They
probably just have it's it's either coming down
the money or they want the show to be able to
stand on its own, which is great. Yeah. But still,
having an actual Avenger on the show would be
pretty fucking awesome. I guarantee you ratings
jump. Oh, absolutely. Even even if he was just
in one episode. It wouldn't surprise me if they
do something for age of Ultron like like kind
of leading up to it There's like an episode where
they have to talk Cody, but they can't know that
it's Colson or something. Yeah Yeah I am so stoked
for Avengers. It just it's gonna be awesome.
Have you seen that extended trailer? Yes Fuck
hurry up may get here. I don't care about Star
Wars more than I do the Avengers Yeah, I I was
love and then Avengers trailers. Yep. Absolutely.
I saw it in my house I've got a 60 inch plasma
with like a 5 .1 surround sound system. I think
I just looped it for like 10 minutes Actually,
I don't care. This is so cool. I ripped the the
HD version to my flash drive and I played it
on my 50 -inch plasma and it looked nice. And
then having James Spader's voice coming out of
Ultron was just creepy. Mike, have you watched
the Blacklist at all? Not yet, but after hearing
him as Ultron, I'm getting curious. I just have
so much on my plate right now. Actually, you
know what? Maybe I'll plow through Blacklist.
During the winter break actually. It's so good.
It's like it's like It's like taking silence
of the lambs and actually making a really good
TV series out of it Yeah, except it's not a guy
that eats stuff. He's just an ex like CIA special
ops guy. See the funny thing about the Blacklist
and Age of Ultron is I saw the Blacklist first
and I knew him there first and I've known Spader
from other things that he's done but like the
Blacklist is really the one show out of all of
the stuff that he's done that I've really paid
attention to because it's a really good show.
It has its moments where it's kind of unbelievable
and kind of makes you frustrated but After seeing
him as the character Red Reddington in the blacklist
and then hearing him as Ultron, I'm like, oh
god, they couldn't have got it so more right
with having him be Ultron. It's gonna be good.
Marvel has, like we've discussed previously on
the show, they have the upper hand in terms of
hype for their movies. Yep. Like, it's gonna
be, like, it's a good time to be a nerd right
now. It really is. Like, the golden age has finally
arrived. Now we can all stop being dicks to each
other, that'll be the best. Yes. Where else are
we going, Steve? Um, in our epic journey of crazy
proportions? Yes. I could talk about something
kinda fucked up that happened this past week.
You guys wanna hear something really weird about
the whole gaming sphere? So this past week, or
last week rather, Assassin's Creed Unity came
out, right? It's the first next -gen version
of that series, PS4, Xbox One, PC. And normally
with game reviews, you get a review copy about
a week, maybe two weeks out. You can publish
your review of it maybe two or three days beforehand,
right, to kind of generate hype for it. It works
out good for you. You get the hits works out
good for the publisher. It gives them hype. It's
press They wouldn't allow you to publish Any
review of that game till till till 9 a .m. Pacific
time. Oh Wow was available at midnight, which
means technically for 12 hours Didn't say shit
about Game when it came out was utterly broken
like people aces were disappearing we were crab
people i had a dancing npc which was really weird
and just all sorts of errors that made the game
i wouldn't say unplayable but for the vast majority
of players they encountered basically what the
hell is wrong with this game and people had accused
ubisoft of weaponizing oh no of review embargo
and i'm not a conspiracy theorist Yes, you are.
What they said is, it was to allow the game's
public servers to have people in it so journalists
like myself can experience the world more populated,
which in PR speak, that makes a fair degree of
sense. But people were wondering, is it because
they didn't believe in it? And Assassin's Creed
Rogue, which is the game available for 360 and
PS3, wasn't sent out for review at all until
day of. So it's a really weird time to be a game
journalist. The fact that they would hold that
back until day of release. Now, it happened before
with Destiny. You couldn't review that game because
it didn't turn the servers on until the day before
launch. Right. A little bit weird in and of itself,
considering it's such a huge game. Don't know
just I found that really kind of weird that Ubisoft
in my opinion. They've been a fairly decent company
Yeah, they've had some stumbles recently but
to hold reviewers hostage like that I found that
really strange and I have a pretty good relationship
with Ubisoft I really kind of I really wanted
to question that like guys. Why are you doing
this? but Now, they even issued a statement to
BBC. They said, we're aware of this. We're going
to work with our partners in the gaming press.
So there's a bigger transparency. We're going
to have more public betas and alphas so people
like you can get involved in the process and
spot bugs for us. And that's the job of a QA
team, in my opinion. Like, that's testers. That's
what you're paid to do. Yeah, it's like, what?
Yeah, like, how do you miss someone's face disappearing
in, like, cutscenes or someone doing the crab
walk? That's not normal. Friggin' reminds me
of, uh, reminds me of that Jeff Dunham, one of
the Jeff Dunham specials, where Peanut's like,
the elephant just disappeared. It just disappeared.
I don't know, it's so weird. Like I said, I can't
believe how much gaming press has been in the
media in the last three months, better or worse.
And I don't know, just review embargoes. I've
never come across that for movies, or at least
if I do, it's remarkably rare. Like say Paramount
sends you a Blu -ray or something here. You can
talk about whatever the fuck you feel like. Yeah,
I find it depends on the company, like... I've
never had a Shelt Factory one, for example. Yeah.
Never had one review embarked. No Power Rangers
last year or two years ago. The thing with Shelt
Factory, I think, is not only do they want the
PR out there, like... As soon as possible, but
I think they also because they send it so close
to the deadline anyway. It doesn't matter Well,
I can speak from experience on this because I've
gotten several things from shop factory I know
Steve's over there grumbling under his breath
When they sent me the mask and the gym complete
series DVD sets I Asked Tom Chen my contact.
I said hey Tom, you know what? You know, when
is it okay to publish this kind of stuff? You
know, do you guys have any embargoes? He said
you could do it a week before the release or
something like that, which is fine I know IDW
publishing when they do previews or when they
do when they do Review copies because IDW makes
all their shit public. Honestly, seriously, I've
seen them tweet out not necessarily their FTP
login, but like an actual press release of what's
coming out. And it says on there, you know, it's
embargoed until the Tuesday before release. So
the only company that I've had a problem with
anything as far as embargoes is DC. I got one
preview. from batman beyond two point oh from
dc comics and i'm very grateful that they allowed
me to do this but the contact person there asked
me not to publish it until a day night a m of
the day before the the comic was to come out
i mean it just it's like i wanted to publish
it on thursday instead of a friday and the comic
comes out it did come out was running on saturday
so i don't know i just Every time I deal with
DC, and I'm not sitting here trying to shoot
myself in the foot, but DC is the strangest company
to deal with in anything. I think BBC, whenever
they sent me that huge Doctor Who set a while
ago, they wanted me to do it for Christmas. Which
made a lot of sense, because they wanted, obviously,
smooth units. Right. That's about the only weird
review embargo. I know when I deal with another
company called, I think it's... Dynamite comics
they ask you not to post anything until Tuesday
because comics come out on Wednesday. Well, yeah,
and that's That's not so bad but like DC like
she asked me a specific time of of the day to
it's It's like your your your your 12 -hour thing
and I'm like, it's a digital comic What does
it matter what time it comes out on the day before
the release? Don't know I guess it might have
to do with how they gather their sources. So
when they do they're like Review of who's covering
stuff they can all gather it at once. Maybe it's
a simplicity I don't know because I've often
wondered that too. Like why does this matter?
I mean see 1201 I get but I hold courage until
10 a .m. Pacific time What the fuck do you care?
I'm on the East Coast Yeah And I guess since
I brought up DC should we talk about the other
DC thing Steve or did you want to go somewhere
else? No, you go ahead and bring it up so DC
is converging this April while they move to California
they are putting all current books on hold to
do this giant convergence event where they converge
the old universe and the new 52 into one universe
I Don't know my question is are they gonna bring
Nightwing back and stop with this whole grace
and stuff I honestly don't know what the hell
the point is And then Marvel's doing something
next summer too, with like, here we're just gonna
throw everything into a blender. I don't think
comics know what they're doing anymore. Why are
you comics drunk? So I have, via DC's website,
this was published on 1111. Convergence week
one, Stephanie Brown, Wally West, and Oracle
return to comics. Last week we announced Convergence,
the massively multi -versal crossover event that
kicks off in April of 2015. Well, bit by bit
we're learning more about it. Today, CBR and
io9 announced the first week of miniseries complete
with creative teams and very intriguing imagery.
Set in the pre -Flashpoint DC universe, these
miniseries offers us glimpse of heroes from not
too long ago including Stephanie Brown's Batgirl,
Wally West's Flash, Renee Montoya's Question,
Barbara Gordon's Oracle, and classic suited Harley
Quinn. Longtime fans will also want to take note
of the creative teams which include many of the
same writers and artists who made these versions
of the characters famous Can you say Greg Rucka?
And it shows I'll actually Shoot Steve the link
for the show notes. It shows you the various
titles and whatever else I think the only one
that really interests me Well, the only two that
really yeah The only two that really interest
me is the Batgirl one. It was written by Alyssa
Kitwini and the Nightwing Oracle. Nightwing Oracle
is going to be written by Gail Simone. So those
are really the only two that interest me the
rest. Like I am so not, and I'm really not trying
to spew hate at all, but... the at this point
in my comic reading i'm more interested in original
stories or creator on titles like uh... kyle
higgins cowell from image comics or uh... sex
criminals by matt fraction uh... you know i mean
i still like the transformers comics ready to
view i love the turtles comics ready to view
have you read been reading that ongoing mike
no unfortunately not actually i i i i don't wait
a couple more trades and I'll just buy a bunch
oh my god it's so good it is so good we are right
now in the story we are almost at issue 40 and
they are starting the next storyline called attack
on technodrome so it is going to be amazing but
yeah so Apparently DC is putting all of their
main titles on hold for two months so they can
move to California. Honestly, I thought they
already friggin moved to California. Yeah, so
did I. I thought like at least a good chunk of
it went over. And why would they even need to
put the books on hold? Just deal with your shit
now. Why bother disrupting the operation? I don't
know. It's DC. I guess anything to sell books,
I guess. Yeah, pretty much. You know a good reason
for the brick and mortar comic book shops, so
that's true True, but I don't know for myself.
I only really follow comics your properties that
I give a shit about I mean I read ponies I read
Mass Effect Robocop and Maybe the odd Marvel
title if it's like a really small like kind of
limited series. I'll pick it up Like, you have
to know a ship time, now this convergence crap?
Yeah. Now, here, learn an entirely new continuity!
You think you knew us before? Haha! Wrong! Well,
they have this, um... They have the weekly series
going on right now. Three weekly series. Batman
Eternal, Futures End, and Worlds End. Batman
Eternal doesn't end until March of 2015. Yet,
in the main Batman ongoing, in issue 35 to 40,
or whatever it's supposed to be... They're doing
this multi -part arc called Endgame, where the
Joker comes back. But the events of this arc
take place after the end of Eternal, which hasn't
even happened yet! That's right. Use your hate.
Let it flow through you. Thank you. Yeah, uh,
so... at this point like i said i'm more interested
in searching out you know i obviously turtles
i'm all you know again i'm gonna stick with that
obviously i'm lovingly that but that series written
by tom waltz kevin eastman about the kernel and
art by various amazing artists that series has
been consistently great for the two or three
years it's been going It really has. There's
never been a misstep or there have been little
nitpicks that I've had with it, but like, overall,
there hasn't been a story where I've just had
to slam the book down and walk away. It's so
great. So, yeah. Where are we going next, Steve?
Before we close it out, do you guys, any of you
guys listen to Honest Trailers? No. Most times,
yeah. You do? Yep. Okay, um Do you have any favorites
of them? Honest true. I think my favorite was
for the fault in our stars recently Or aka cancer
sucks the movie He just made a lot of really
funny points during that one I think trailer
for the Hunger Games. I really liked Any of the
Transformers ones are generally pretty funny,
too. But yeah, I'd say probably my favorite would
be The Fault in our Stars, but I like it whenever
he collaborates with the CinemaSins guy. He's
my favorite. I really love the honest trailers.
For one, most of the time it hits them right
on the head. with how bad these movies are. For
instance, I love the ones where it bashes Star
Trek. Or Lens Flares! And then they literally
play Lens Flares. So yeah, I mean, I love that.
I love the fact that they changed, you know,
like with Transformers 4, they rag on the fact
that it's supposed to be in China. And then half
of the things are in Chinese? Well, it says that
it's supposed to be in China, but every shot
is from Chicago. Like during that part. That's
funny. You see the Willis Tower. And then they
cut to the other half of the trailer and it's
all like... It's just it's hilarious But um,
yeah, it wasn't really a point in that other
than Other than to bring up the fact that I like
turtles, basically, you just had your moment
there. Yep. I was like, due to the here and there
Check out the CinemaSins guy, though. If he wants
some hilarious stuff, he points out shit in your
favorite movies. You're like, hey, wait a second.
That didn't make any fucking sense. It's almost
like the Showing whether, like, John McClane
would survive Die Hard. Yes, I love it when he
does that. Or he did one for, like, Home Alone.
How many times Harry and Marv would die during
the trilogy of movies or whatever. I think Harry
died the least. Marv, I think, died 14 times
over. I think John McClane would have died five
times in the course of the first Die Hard. I
don't know if it was these guys that did this
but I remember a while ago I pointed it out I
don't remember I might have been oh god We ended
nerd news. I don't know well when we ended version
one for nerd news, but Somebody put out there
a slow -motion capture of the kitchen scene from
Home Alone Where Peter McAllister actually throws
Kevin's ticket away? No, I had never noticed
that as as a kid watching the movie that the
ticket was actually in the net the red napkins
and all that stuff It's crazy He's like, if you
kid, get out of here. I'm actually just going
through my list of YouTube channels right now,
seeing what I like, if we're just going to recommend
stuff. There's one channel I really like, and
I've only recently become a fan. They're called
Toy Pizza. They review different series of action
figures in a video podcast format. They've done
one. Aliens toys. I did one recently on like
haloed ones. I thought was actually pretty kick
-ass There's another guy like his name is pixel
Dan. Yeah They really he's like knows him. Oh,
yeah. I've podcasted with him before I Would
very much like to work with him at some point.
Yeah, yeah He's had a lot of setbacks lately.
Oh, yeah, like like a flood and his kid getting
sick and everything Yeah, yeah, there's one channel
on YouTube and I don't know how to describe this
guy other than he takes He does let's plays of
video games or he'll take an infomercial and
read dub it. His name is penguin zero or penguins
zero I think his name is critical and He'll take
like an infomercial there the one he did that
got me hooked on his channel It was this infomercial
for this egg separator. And he was like, hey
there, do you want to murder your own fucking
eggs? Do you want to goddamn annihilate them?
Well, here, look at this. Put your titties in
my hand. And it's just, he's doing really weird
voiceovers. It is the funniest shit I've ever
seen in my life. And another one for, I think
it was this stupid horse video game. It was him
just talking over it, and at one point you have
to pick whether you want to be a stallion, a
mare, or a unicorn. You know, there's either
male, female, or whatever the fuck a unicorn
is. He's like, what the hell's a gelding? Do
I have like a dick and a pussy? And you see,
is that what I have? It's so funny because he's
so rude, but he has this complete... Okay, think
of Ryan from Twig if he could be more deadpan.
There's no way. Is that possible? If Ryan was
more deadpan, he would be the Charlie Brown adult.
That's what this guy is. This guy is a vulgar
Charlie Brown. It's hilarious. Oh my god. It's
hilarious. I Will have to send you the link Steve
because people need to subscribe to this guy
because he's so funny So I think that about rounds
it out this week, yep We did kind of talk a little
bit about you know, the fantastic four thing
last week and then the whole Doctor Doom thing.
But most people were like, I don't get why people
are so up in arms with Fantastic Four movies,
rumors, and what's the worst thing that could
happen? We could have another bad Fantastic Four
movie. See, I still maintain that I enjoy the
first two. I don't mind them, but they're not
great. Well, they're better than Electra. Electra
is the worst Marvel franchise film. Having a
better, severe food poisoning is better than
Electra. Yeah. You know, the Fantastic Four movies,
the reason why I give them a pass is because
of who plays Johnny and Ben, because Michael
Chiklis as Ben Grimm the thing, and future Captain
America, Chris Evans. as Johnny Storm really
nailed those classic Marvel characters. I think
those movies were well cast. They were. They
really were. The scripts sucked. Yeah, much like,
well, Wolverine Origins. Wolverine Origins, I
don't think they knew the story they wanted to
tell despite the fact it's an origin story, but
blank blank. Yeah. It's like an x -men movie
without the x -men. Yeah kind of here. Here's
Wolverine and shitty fake -looking CG claws Yeah
Deadpool that isn't Deadpool So hopefully when
the Deadpool movie comes out it will not suck
because I hope my old will be an awesome Deadpool
He was the first time until they they cut his
mouth. Oh, yeah yeah no yep they're like hey
right fuck you we're gonna take away the only
thing that defines you other than your six -pack
abs yeah hate you Lisa could have done was said
you know his his flesh falling off he'd be like
oh god damn it they screwed it up so I think
that about rounds it out this week unless you
guys have anything else. Well, I hate to end
the show on a down note, but I saw an article
on Facebook as we were recording. Apparently,
according to Tracy Morgan's lawyer, he may never
be the Tracy Morgan he once was due to the brain
injury he suffered from his... I believe it was
a car accident? Yeah, when he got into... He
was in by an MTA bus. We got hit by the Walmart.
Yeah, yeah Yeah It just they gave him a deep
discount. That's just oh Come on now. Not the
Black Friday so early. Oh Okay, close it out
Steve. I can't I can't believe you just said
that you asshole We ran over that topic Those
poor little Chinese kids that knitted those sweaters,

My new nemesis. Fuck Judge Reinhold. It's Tracy
Horton. Oh god. I'm gonna kill Michael Blanchard.
I gotta get him while he's down. Wait a second,
why is he gonna kill me? It's the Canadian he
needs to kill. He's gonna kill one of us, he's
gonna kill you. No, I don't think so. Hey, he
is gonna make you suffer for... Oh, fuck, I don't
know. Hell, I wasn't the one that... I think
something knickled back. No, I don't think so.
I don't think he cares. You don't know that.
The brain injury may have turned him into like
a drained psycho killer. He will never be the
same. The Tracey Morgan massacre. Oh, we're going
to hell. The Tracey Morgan massacre. Um, so thank
you for joining us. That's why you gotta call
this show the Tracey Morgan Massacre. We should
come up with a mock. A couple of mock movie concepts
next episode. Oh god. Tracy Morgan is in a sex
comedy with Doctor Octopus. No, I was gonna do
one better. Oh really? Jurassic Park. Get over
here, dinosaur! I love it. Get altered, get geeky
with the Altered Geeks. See you next time. Get
that out of your mouth, Dodd. Oh, sorry.
