Altered Geek
Marvel and DC TV Shows

About this Episode
Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening
to the geek cast radio network Hello and welcome
to Altered Geek Unlimited, episode 88. I'm your
host, Steve Megatron Phillips, and joining me
this week is... Michael Booth, Ninja Powers.
Heyo. How are you doing, sir? Doing pretty good.
Good thing we had that episode in the can for
last week. Good thing it was in the can... Also,
I'm rather relieved that it appears that nobody
has listened to it. Which I don't know. I've
gotten numbers on it. There's been 53, but. It's
that's fine. The wrath that I thought I would
receive has not come down, so. Which, you know,
pleases me because I don't like dealing with
that stuff. So because I mean at the end of the
day my opinion is my opinion it shouldn't do
I I've never I don't think I ever Are you when
I share opinion? I don't think I ever really
tried to convince That My opinion is right over
somebody else's because they're just opinions.
It's not like we're arguing science or yeah facts
You know most stuff in geek culture is just all
about personal taste. It's not a you know So
I think I just, you know, that's the way I looked
at it. I know I got, there was a little bit of
a, I was talking with Kevin the other night on
Twitter about the Thor movies. I don't know if
you saw any of that in the... No, I missed it.
It was like, it was like late. It was like 12,
31 o 'clock in the morning. We were having a
discussion about the Thor movies, but, you know,
it just came down to, you know, his opinion versus
my opinion and... So we weren't like arguing
or anything. I stopped. I kind of jumped out
of the conversation because I don't like having
conversations like that on Twitter. Makes sense.
Because I feel like you need more than 140 characters
like every, you know, a couple of minutes plus
stuff gets lost being text only and. You can
sound like you're being condescending when you're
not actually being condescending and all this
other stuff So I just I prefer not to have conversations
like that, you know in person I basically my
my whole opinion of the whole thing my personal
opinion was that the Thor movies Don't get the
same have not received the same treatment as
other Marvel movies They're kind of in in my
personal opinion I can equate them to like The
cars version like you know cars I like the movie
cars from Pixar like I find it to be watchable
But it's not my favorite by any stretch of the
imagination. It's actually like at the bottom
of my Towards the bottom of my picks our favorites
list and then the Thor movies are right there,
too Like Thor the Thor movies are perfectly washable
But they're not they haven't received the same
their scripts or something about them just doesn't
does not have the same polish as like the rest
of the Marvel movies. Like, for example, like
Captain America, the first Avenger and the first
Thor movie, they're kind of like neck and neck
with each other in terms of like finding them
like overly cheesy or they all or they both look
like they're rush jobs because there are things
about both of them that I find to be cringe worthy.
But there is no comparison for Winter Soldier
and The Dark World. No, like Winter Soldier is
a superior movie and Dark World is only marginally
better than the first Thor movie And I don't
know if that's like a result of the character
or the director or the writers that they have
for the Thor movies I don't know what it is,
but there's just in my personal opinion They
haven't received the same type of treatment the
Thor movies are I feel like they're just there
so Because they're in Hemsworth's contract Which
is funny that you say that screen junkies actually
came out with a video The guys that do the honest
trailers mm -hmm And they got one of the writers
of Thor to watch the honest trailer of Thor Okay
Which was actually kind of funny because They
made him sit through it to kind of pick his brain
about it, kind of make fun of the movie. And
they were like, yeah, pretty much. Because the
guys of Honest Trailers nailed it on the head
of that, yeah, it was just there to kind of set
him up and really was kind of exactly what it
was. It was more so leading up to the Avengers
movie. Maybe basically admitted that in the video.
So it was kind of funny to see that. Yeah in
cap in the first Captain America is the same
way I mean those those movies were both announced
at the exact same time They were both like rushed
through production to be out before Avengers
Just so audiences knew what these people were.
It's just that when it came time to do the sequels
Captain America, I feel like got better Got the
better of the two And I don't I don't think very
many people will argue that winter soldier is
a better movie than the dark dark world. So But
yeah, I was just you know, that's just like the
thing I was just sharing my opinion and I kind
of bowed out of the conversation saying, you
know It's like I'm not arguing over I'm not like
saying that you're right or you know that you're
right or wrong or that I'm right or wrong I'm
just sharing he voiced an opinion online. I said
I'm just sharing my opinion. So Anyways But yeah,
you have a new child, Steve. Yes, I do. How's
that treating you? Uh, pretty good. He's, you
know, newborn, so he's not gonna sleep all that
well at night, but he's doing better a weekend.
He was born last Wednesday, 11 .45 at night,
and then we didn't actually get to go to sleep
until like 3 .30 in the morning, so... I had
actually the funny thing was is I edited that
interview that we did with Olivia I Think that
Tuesday like the day before and I put it on my
Microsoft OneDrive account and So while I was
in in the hospital and there was nothing going
on I connected to the Wi -Fi downloaded it to
my phone that uploaded it to the server and then
I had Mike throw together a Like TFG one I had
him throw together a post and then I went in
and tweaked it on my phone And then set it to
publish for the next day. So Because I had a
feeling I was not going to be home which was
true Well partially true. I did get to actually
go home the next day to let the dog out and I
had to record a voiceover for somebody and then
Do something else so I was at my computer Like
11 12 o 'clock at night that Thursday, but Yeah,
it was it was not a very productive week as far
as podcasting but yeah, he's he's doing really
well though and How's like this one's I think
this one's gonna take after my hair color which
is actually funny because the other one my older
one takes after my wife's hair hair color, so
And how's the wife doing? She's doing good. She
didn't have to have c -section this time. So
she's really happy good deal Yes All right, so
geek stuff is geek stuff Came out this week Actually,
well between yesterday and today that there were
some up fronts For like CW's new DC shows and
Supergirl was finally revealed to the world beyond
just a picture and casting announcements Is there
any particular one you care to talk about first?
I'm more intrigued about the CW one, but I'm
interested in the CBS one as well. I feel like
there's less to say about Supergirl, so we could
probably talk about that one first. Yeah, I liked
actually getting to see her in action and they
kind of threw her into the almost Clark Kentish
role in that scenario, but it wasn't really even
that. It was like it's supposed to be I kind
of inferred that it was like in a fashion place
or something I mean, she's just a generic or
some kind of corporate office where yeah the
boss is a bitch and She's actually a nerdy like
kind of ditch their kids. I got the the devil
wears Prada vibe That's kind of what I was thinking
too. So I'm I'm looking forward to it. It looks
better than I thought I was gonna look But I
had no expectations going into it in the first
place. To be honest, when it comes to Supergirl,
the only thing that I'm you know, I'm kind of
geeking out about is the fact that CBS also has
partial ownership of the CW. Which means that
there could be a crossover. Yeah, I mean, there's
been like rumblings like here and there, because
it's the same showrunners slash creators of Flash
and Arrow. So it's. CBS just decided to pick
the show up over CW, which is weird when you
think about it, because it feels like you've
got a female lead. I feel like that could do
some serious damage on CW. But it doesn't have
the visual vibe of CW to it. CW has that certain
look to everything they do. Yeah, but even this
is just taking the... I'm willing to bet it opens
up with the same narration style as the CW series.
Wouldn't doubt it Because I feel like it's I
feel like it's gonna be a CW show on seat on
CBS like with Primetime visuals because this
this is gonna be a primetime show. Oh, yeah,
so I They already said it's gonna butt up against
Gotham Yeah, so we'll see how that goes. Maybe
it'll force Gotham off the air But which it's
kind of counterintuitive if you think about it
because they're all DC WB properties Yeah, but
still competing networks, so yeah It'll be interesting
to see I that's that's what I'm holding out Hope
I'm gonna watch it in the hopes that it will
cross over because I know that if I'm not watching
it and they do Cross over then I'm just gonna
have to start watching it Yes, that's just the
way that I am like I watched warehouse 13 and
then it crossed over with Eureka, so they did
it for like They did the arrow flash thing where
they crossed over for two episodes. But I had
to stop at those two episodes of Warehouse 13
and go watch all four seasons of Eureka up to
that point. So that I just I would know just
so I would have have a better understanding of
what may or may not be happening in those two
episodes. And that's just that's just me. I know
some people aren't crazy like that. So. Don't
have a problem with any of the casting or maybe
because I don't know a lot of the characters
other than You know Kara and Jimmy Olsen I Will
say I'm wondering how much of that all of what
we saw is in the pilot Versus spread over a couple
of episodes because it felt very action -heavy
Yeah Like I see this being very much Because
it's like a primetime show. I wonder how much
it's gonna devolve into that Oh the best analogy
I can think of off the top my head is like Mighty
Morphin Power Rangers You know what I'm saying
where it's like they yeah, they do everything
they can and then like the last five minutes
she'll become Supergirl or Are there times where
she'll be like Supergirl for like a majority
episode? You know what I'm saying? Like yeah,
well is the general public and I say the general
public because it's on CBS versus CW is the general
public actually ready for Superhero and this
is and this is also a different type of superhero
than they're getting on agents of shield It's
a real superhero But yeah, so it's it's it's
interesting. There's also the big rumor floating
around again This also goes back to the CW and
I've heard it in conjunction conjunction with
Supergirl is that? One mr. Tom Welling Might
be reprising his role as Superman Which would
be funny because they've in the trailer. They've
already teased that You know Superman exists,
you know, this is from your cousin Mm -hmm, you
know Clark or whatever and I do like that her
earth mom is played by the original Supergirl
Mm -hmm, and her earth dad is Dean Cain. I know
that's so awesome That those kind of nods are
are cool for the for the for the fan. It's so
well the funny it kind of almost is like the
The the guy that plays the flash is dad on the
flash. I mean, it's that kind of a nod. Yeah,
exactly. So Which is weird because you know what?
You know what else is interesting? another reason
that we might actually end up with a crossover
is because I think The flash that his dad was
the flash of was a CBS show Hmm, wasn't it? I
Believe so. I think it was I believe that was
a CBS series. So it'd be interesting Now I also
I know they've also talked about I know you can
see in some stuff for The flash like in those
opening sequences when they're he's doing it's
like voiceover narration stuff. You can see the
Daily Planet from Smallville One of the buildings
as like an Easter egg. That's funny So there's
there's just there's just rumors and obviously
with the flash and time travel and stuff like
that It's not too far of a jump to do reality
hopping. So I think you could get Tom Welling
Superman without it affecting the fact that there's
two different green arrows Yeah so It's all it's
all interesting to see how this is Coming together
as far as like across TV shows. This is this
is exciting, too I think this might be a little
more exciting than the movies Like movies doing
this kind of thing. I think that this this lends
itself better to do a connected universe Yeah,
Marvel's done wonderfully with their films Connecting
them all together in essence because they all
still stand on their own But they they don't
feel like I don't know they they feel like they're
in the universe because they have to connect
to Avengers, but they at the same time they don't
really Right at a lot of points. Whereas with
DC what they're doing with their their TV shows
other than Gotham It seems very Melted together
and there's there's lots of ties to other stuff
you know, they've mentioned in an arrow like
Bloodhaven, which is Nightwing's territory and
You know, in Flash they mentioned Ferris Error
with Green Lantern. You know, already they have
the Atom and I guess in the Flash season finale
they're going to have Hot Girl show up. That's
interesting. I'm kind of, so... And that Rip
Hunter, I believe. That'll be interesting. Which
I've never heard of the character before, looking
him up earlier this afternoon when the trailer
dropped. Yeah, no, I appreciate the I feel like
that for some reason just leaving on the same
network from the same showrunners and creators
and whatnot I feel like the the interconnectivity
that I want out of like the Marvel movies or
or DC's upcoming movies I Feel like I'm getting
that in the TV shows and that makes me happy
because you know at any moment Barry could pop
in like to arrow And do something and then take
off and they don't have to do a lot to explain
why he's there It's just subtle little things
and you know Barry roll reference in air in flash
Barry roll reference his cameo in arrow You know,
even if it was like a little thing Here and there
so and in fact, one of my favorite cameos of
the entire season Well of this entire TV season
that we've just had is in the final episode of
arrow So that gives you something to look forward
to Yeah, I know I know Barry shows up, but I
don't know much more than that. It's fantastic
Like that's that's what I'm talking about It's
like they write themselves the fact that they
have this connected these two shows are connected
to each other It's like when they wouldn't they
write them so I'm gonna say this by much I'm
not this isn't what they did But it's like when
they get them when they write themselves into
a hole They can get themselves out of it with
a means that doesn't feel forced because that
they have all these interconnectivities right
so like for just an example uh not really too
much of a spoiler because you've seen the second
to last episode of arrow correct yes okay barry
gets them out of their predicament yeah i knew
that yeah so and that and that's cool In the
flash arrow Tells Barry he says you owe me one
Yeah, see that sets that up, but that that see
where arrow is in the end of flash makes less
sense than the flash being an arrow But that's
only because of how season 3 for arrow has been
complete and utter garbage But we could talk
about that in a little bit so Supergirl we're
both looking forward to that. Will you be you'll
check it out, right? Obviously Oh yeah. Yeah,
okay. The other big one was Legends, or is it
DC's Legends of Tomorrow? It's just Legends of
Tomorrow. Okay, because sometimes I see it written.
The Legends of Tomorrow. Okay, all right. I just
have to say I'm all for this. I will go ahead
and give some credit where it's due. My buddy
on Off the Cuff, Art Danner, just he predicted
the villain like a month ago in our private chat
on Facebook for Off the Cuff. So that was that
was surprising. And then in in true Altered Geek
fashion today, today they announced White Canary.
For which I don't get how they're doing that
But I mean I understand what they're doing, but
I don't understand why they're calling her that
I Think it's just a way of Differentiating the
two I don't know see yeah that that goes into
what we can talk about here in a second which
was my overall prediction Versus both we got
But yeah, so they revealed the white canary because
everyone's for a while. We've known that Katie
lots Yep is going to be in this TV show and everyone's
kind of like well What is she gonna be is she
you know blah blah blah now? We know she's a
character known as the white canary and so I
You and I were talking about on Twitter about
this and I kind of put that with what I had read
about the series and the characters that they
were putting in it and I thought That it was
going to be Like a reality hopping series So
that they could basically they would Sarah would
come back Sarah Lance would come from another
dimension Where I theorize that maybe Laura Lance
was dead Hence the whole white canary thing like
she's just from another dimension Because you
know, they've set stuff weirder things up than
that plus it's a DC series. So obviously there's
multiple universes And I see I almost thought
that they were going to With the with the Time
traveler like pluck them the moment before they
die from wherever now see that's another interesting
thing too because The comic that I told you about
the x -men comic exiles, that's what happens
When the when the characters are about to I believe
it's when they are about to die they are unhinged
from time and They're put on this team and there's
always like five of them They're there all these
random characters are thrown together on a team
to travel to different universes to Correct what's
wrong with said universe? And it's a really interesting
series because the team is always changing and
you get to go to like all these What -if universes
like what if the Hulk was dr. Doom? Oh Like that's
cool like crazy. They get to do crazy stuff like
that. I'm like I thought that that's what this
would be You know, but maybe this white canary
was plucked from a different timeline, you know
like so Anyways, we were having this conversation
making crazy predictions back and forth and then
The trailer dropped they dropped the trailer
and I I know I mean we've got our tweets like
timestamped and stuff like this so when you know,
I Did not see the trailer before we I started
commenting with you about it and I people want
to call me a liar. That's fine. They can call
me a liar, but I'm telling the truth and For
the most part we we Pretty much got what the
entire series was going to be. I mean I was wrong
about the reality hopping thing and But they
are gonna go back and forth through time to fight
Vandal Savage, which is cool in different time
periods I But I dislike I'm a little bit biased
here, but I liked my idea for Sarah Lance being
alive more than the one that we're getting well
This this is what I don't get about it She's
been dead for months. And then they dump her
in the Lazarus pit just, you know, when they
could have done this earlier, rather than have
that entire arc of, oh, we have to kill, you
know, the killer of Sarah and have, you know,
it basically nulls the entire third season. Hang
on, let me, yeah, let me go find my tweet on
this matter. because i think i had a pretty good
one because they had the whole macguffin on it
i mean it just it really does it makes it makes
it so that from the inception of season three
like so yeah my tweet was so season three of
arrow was so bad the creators hooked up another
series to undo the pivotal plot point to send
arrow seat that sent arrow season three on its
downward spiral Like this is this to me is Like
You know you have in basically, okay? Marvel's
Civil War right you have the issue where? Peter
reveals to the entire world that he's spider
-man right and it's this oh crap moment well
later on in a later book something crazy happens
in a spider -man book that resets time and So
now he gets his secret identity back Like, it
undoes the biggest pivotal moment, one of the
bigger pivotal moments of Civil War. Well, I
mean, hell, they could have almost had that Rip
Hunter guy go back in time and then stop Thea
from shootin' her, or Barry could have just ran
back in time. Of course, there are things here
that we're kind of like... We're assuming that
all of this stuff happens chronologically, right?
Assuming, yes. Again, we're dealing with time
travel here. So who's to say? They don't jump
back to that moment In and get her right when
she's dead Yeah, like like when they're about
to bury her they just they go dig her up right
with them and murder Yeah, like who I'm not saying
like they do I'm saying like maybe the time traveler
traveler does yeah, which would make sense I
mean, there's their time and see the crazy thing
is we're thinking of Time the way most humans
do which is chronologically and we're thinking
of this series as being You know laid out Chronologically
as well when now they're throwing in the whole
time travel thing. I mean they've done it with
barry They've never done it with a guy that can
do it at will so It's going to be interesting
to see where this picks up and So i'm really
i'm i'm looking forward to this because it looks
funny first of all and Any opportunity I have
to get more Barry Allen Yes is is fine by me
I don't think he's gonna be a major part of the
team I think he and arrow are gonna both kind
of jump in here or there That's what I mean,
though Like any chance I have to get more of
him like I'll take it like he's gonna have his
own show But he'll show up there like he does
on arrow. So I Think the beauty of this show
to it with the time jumping As you could see
like a Older Barry Allen or older Oliver Queen
and their later costumes Like their finalized
costumes at some point even before they are in
their regular show Yeah, and this also gives
us a way of seeing again. I said it before a
way of seeing, you know, mr. Willing as Superman
I mean it isn't you have to be the Superman from
Smallville He could just be playing Superman.
Yeah Which would be cool. So maybe he'll actually
put the suit on this time, right? Since everybody
else is. Yeah. But I liked how they showed the
atom shrinking down and then they had, you know,
the one half of Firestorm. Yeah, that's really
weird, because Rabiamel is not listed in the
cast. Which means that you won't see Firestorm.
But unless he guests. Right, but they also say
firestorm is part of the team in the trailer
Yeah, which I don't know if you noticed did it
I I just rewatched the episode tonight the the
the end of them of the most recent flash and
I feel like all Robbie Amell doesn't talk like
firestorm does not talk in that fight and He
does I I know they reuse the same scene of him
landing twice So I'm actually wondering if he
was even like there Oh, I know he was there because
I saw a Behind -the -scenes footage of the three
of them. Okay. All right Well, I mean I saw that
a couple months back before they released this
episode. Okay, cuz it just felt it felt really
weird like He was added in because he couldn't
be there at the same time or something. I don't
know. It just felt really weird. So um so there's
that there's hot girl which i'm kind of bummed
that they didn't uh go with i mean i i looked
it up after i had this conversation with you
and i had it again with danner and i was like
completely off but it's kind of bummed that they
didn't go with the hot girl that i thought that
they were setting up in arrow season one um there's
the narcotics detective that um oliver goes on
a couple dates with Okay, her name is McKenna
Hall I thought that that was like a subtle nod
to Hot Girl at the time Or like, you know, this
person could eventually become that but there's
this new one is like a Kendra Saunders Is the
name of the character? Like it's not see when
I think of Hot Girl, I think of Shayura Hall
Yep So it's, it's interesting that it's not,
you know, and at first when I saw like my first
time, well, maybe before I found out the name
of the actual hot girl that's in the show, I
was like, well, maybe they're like sisters, like,
you know, one's named McKenna Hall and the other
one's named Shayura Hall, but that's not the
case. So that would be cool. I'm interested to
see how Captain Cold and Heatwave play into the
whole thing. Yeah, I know because being that
they're villains But see I think this goes back
to the whole like and they kind of address that
in the trailer Which is you're not heroes or
villains your legends So he's just trying to
create a team to help help him Accomplish his
goals. So and Adam is so raw too. I I will say
this in the trailer if you choose to watch the
trailer for Legends of tomorrow if you haven't
watched it yet. I do not suggest watching it
until you've finished arrow Because there's like
a mild like a super mild spoiler Well, if you
explain something Yeah, but but still it's like
a mild spoiler if you haven't seen the last episode
of arrow I mean, I don't think it hurts like
like here a legends of tomorrow at all. I'm just
saying like it kind of hurts arrow takes one
of the one of them the moments out of arrow and
Do you know devolves into like a snippet smaller
snippet in a trailer which kind of takes away
some of the sting I guess so So again looking
forward to this too, so Definitely one of the
ones I I'm looking forward I I wasn't sure initially
but I'm kind of geeked for it now. I just think
it'll be fun. I think it's going to be as fun
as Flash. It'll certainly be a little more ludicrous
than Flash. Oh yeah. Is there anything you want
to talk about before I vent a little bit about
Hero? I know Diggle's supposed to get a mask
next season. See I don't even care about that
It's a minute thing see It goes the only person
sorry, I don't mean to interrupt you here but
real quick it diggles the only person that came
out of season 3 like Realistically Like he's
been affected yes, so there's character development
there I'm for Diggle alone like and that yeah
Like and maybe Ray, but nobody that like like
Felicity is actually from arrow Yeah, like Felicity
doesn't have any I don't I Laurel nothing was
earned with Laurel She became a fighting person.
That's it Anyways, I'm sorry. I didn't interrupt
you we can go into all this like in a second,
but what did you yeah? It's a different thing
all together It had more so to do with the agents
of shield thing, but We can talk about that and
come back to arrows, okay The only thing like
I like the the finale but it Kind of was lackluster
compared to the previous season finale in my
opinion Yep I felt like I should have gotten
more out of the situation and there really wasn't
anything there The only thing that really happened
was and Sorry, if you haven't watched it, but
Colson gets his hand chopped off, which is like
nothing Which they're like, oh what happens to
everything and in phase two somebody's always
losing a hand. It's like, okay, I That just left
me wondering with okay. Is he gonna get a prosthetic?
Is he gonna get? You know, Cree blood and grow
back. Is he just going to be Gempie for the next
season? Who knows? I miss the original Coulson.
Yeah, I miss Coulson too. I wish he was still
in the films. But yeah, that's that's really
the only thing I had to bring up, because like
the rest of the show is kind of like, yeah, who
cares? I think my issue with this season and
it became more and more prevalent. once The inhumans
became like a big thing And I know I've made
this like I've tweeted about this and I've made
a push about this lately Which is when are we
gonna stop comparing? the movies to the comic
books right Yeah, and so I feel like kind of
a hypocrite for saying this but We know that
they're making an inhumans movie and the rumor
is Vin Diesel has been cast as Black Bolt I mean
that's a big rumor but and it would be a funny
one because he plays Groot who can only say one
line I am Groot and then he's gonna play a character
that when he speaks he destroys everything in
front of him so It so it's a big it's a big room
I mean the the the rumor or the role of black
bolt has not been cast But a lot of people think
it's gonna it went to Vin Diesel. They just haven't
announced it yet So At any rate black bolt in
the comics is the leader of the inhumans, okay?
My issue I had with this with agents of shield
when the inhuman storyline became more involved
Than just a couple of people when you actually
started seeing their entire society I I Felt
like and I had a couple of conversations with
my friends about this It's like is it just me
or does it feel completely wrong for people to
be making decisions without even mentioning the
name black bolt? Like be making decisions for
inhumans as a whole Without black bolt or even
mentioning the name black bolt because he's supposed
to be the leader of the inhumans like on high
so I Mean and and some I'm willing to write it
off. Maybe black bolt isn't the leader. I don't
know but What I've started to think was I don't
think this this group of inhumans are The in
like part of the inhumans that we know and love
from the comics These are just like a ragtag
band of just leftovers. Actually, I think they're
like a splinter group of extremists. Which makes
sense. They're like villain inhumans versus the
inhumans that are actually the heroes. And if
I look through that lens, then it makes a lot
more sense. But this last season, I don't know
man. It just didn't it felt were one it felt
really long It felt long, but it also felt like
they they were trying to connect the dots to
the films just to keep it afloat more so than
the first season and Then it also like they were
trying to jam this this inhumans thing down our
throat But well the thing was jammed down our
throat But the the only references to the movie
were at the end of the episode before Age of
Ultron and the beginning of the episode that
came up after Age of Ultron and that was it.
Oh I know which kind of sucks. It was not it
was not the it didn't piggyback off of Age of
Ultron the way that season one piggybacked off
of Winter Soldier which a little more credit
for not doing that I guess but weird at the same
time like you did it once why not do it again.
In it it also kind of it it almost feels like
even though it's supposed to be all be connected
quote -unquote, but it feels like Shield has
become the bastard child of the universe Yeah,
I'm just so confused by a lot of things and I
don't think it'll ever come to light because
the only way it'll ever come to light is If I
see the heroes find out that Coulson is still
alive Like to me that is that would cement the
show I think to me that is the definitive sign
that the show I mean I I'm one of the ones that
believes the show is in continuity with the movies
Don't I do too, but I especially after the episode
before age of Ultron, right? but I feel like
For that to be cemented, I think everything goes
one way. Like the movies affect the TV show.
The TV show has yet to affect the movie in any
meaningful way. And I think the way that happens
is for the Avengers to find out that Coulson's
still alive and that Fury lied to them. And who
knows? Off the wall prediction here, maybe that's
the basis for Civil War. The theory manipulated
them into thinking Colson's dead and Colson secretly
running shield that nobody knows about I mean
Crazier things have happened, right? I mean we
got the bat suit, right? Yep, I would actually
love if that were true so But I don't know I
just felt like this episode this season felt
really long and meandered all over the place
It was a lot like arrow. It just kind of meandered
all it was Don't feel like it knew what it never
only feel like it ever found its footing like
I production wise I Liked it better than the
first season Like I Don't on a whole I think
it was just as good as like the end of season
one But I don't think it ever became better than
the end of season one. No, I kind of agree with
you But they did introduce some cool characters
that I like and I'm really bummed that like was
it fits that fits never Well, oh Fitz is the
one that was lost his memory. Yeah, I'm I was
really miffed by that at the beginning of the
season and I was hoping You seem to get it back.
Well, he got it back when it served the show
Like there's one of the things that I noticed
like it in the last episode. It's like, oh wait
So now he has no problem communicating like when
did that happen? like I I don't I don't know
I feel like it's just yet somewhere in the last
like five episodes it just stopped being an issue
like I wished it would have come out of like
the Terrigen mist or something had Fixed him
or one of the inhuman doctors had fixed him or
something and said it looks like it just Disappeared
or it's something that just comes and goes as
it's dramatically necessary So which again takes
away from the whole thing anyways Hmm what about
Gotham's end in the not like the rest of Gotham
but just like the last ten minutes of the season
finale and then the the fact that they've basically
said Mr. Freeze is coming next season and then
the origin of the Joker I can't I Can't talk
about Gotham because I don't watch it. Okay,
I I Stopped it like the winter break Which is
like two episodes after Harvey Bullock became
Gordon's best friend Okay, because I didn't buy
that that character turn at all Oh, they're still
back stabbing each other throughout the season.
So but I don't know. And the whole precinct scene
with Zazz. Was it Zazz? Yeah. I didn't buy that
at all. Like I... They would have just shot him.
I couldn't... There was something about that
episode and the one right after it where Harvey
became like his best friend. Like... I just couldn't...
I couldn't get past the show treating me that
dumb. So I was like, nope, we're done. I considered
doing it when they cast the one of the they cast
the Joker as one of the actors from one of my
favorite shows Shameless. I thought for a second
about watching to get caught up so I could see
that episode and I was like, no, no, no, no,
not even worth it. So I can't really talk about
Gotham. You can, but I can't. Do you care? No.
Okay. Anyways, Bruce and Alfred basically find
the hidden door to the Batcave. In the end. Okay.
He finds a picture that has some location of
something. He finds a little push button like
garage door opener type thing. Real thin and
Alfred's like don't press it and he's like I
have to know what my father was hiding and then
he presses it and The fireplace opens up and
there's a stairway that goes down It's his porn
stash. Yeah It's where oh your dad's secretly
alive hiding down to the basement. He's That
would be fantastic He's been fighting Fighting
Gotham No He'll find his dad's corpse down there
or something wearing the bat suit That would
just be wrong, but it'd be hilarious if it happened
So yeah, and then the the Riddler and penguin
Lake penguins finally the crime lord of Gotham
after knocking the opposition and then Riddler
is having a mental snap With riddles, so I think
next season he's gonna be bad, too No It yeah,
well, it's extremely like I don't know some of
its like really stupid how it played out But
yeah, the only the only thing I worry about with
not with Gotham because I don't know how that's
gonna go next season with the guys that are doing
Supergirl doing the legends of tomorrow The flash
arrow is Aren't they stretched pretty thin as
it is because I mean you can see that arrows
suffered because of it Pretty thin with what
as far as like do you think it's gonna hurt the
stories? Overall in the shows separately because
they're working on so many of them know of the
same universe No, I don't think so I think I
think You know kind of like we talked about earlier
one feeds into another like what happens in flash
gives their Reasons for there to be metahumans
if you will in arrow And you know vice and vice
versa I just I don't I feel like it opens up
it gives them more It gives them More room to
play around as far as telling stories goes. I
don't think I think they need to stop treating
Characters like characters that they're not like
arrow is not Batman Which I wish they'd say that
in the show I'm not Batman. I want to know why
Just a quick aside here, I wonder why Batman
is the one that Can't be put on TV. I don't know.
There's like some kind of an embargo on him because
like even Even later on like they they started
like in Justice League the reason why the Joker
only showed up so many times is because they
had like it or not the Joker the other characters
is because they had some kind of a bad embargo
going on because they had Plans to use them in
some of the movies so they wouldn't use them
in like Justice League or whatever and then they
the same thing kind of happened in various animated
series later on So I mean, it's it's one of those
weird things and I don't know why they won't
bring a live -action Batman back to TV It's weird
because they won't they don't appear to do that
with Superman. I mean Smallville was on TV while
When the Bren and Ralph Superman came out And
they're they're putting Superman in some form
on the screen again for Supergirl I Feel like
there's for some reason is I feel like Batman
is the only DC character that they don't That
just doesn't get put on TV And I would like to
know why that is like as far as like where they
just too scared by the Adam West version That
they'll never do it again. I Don't know. I just
I really wish that they would bring him back.
I think it would be great as a serialized Show.
Yeah, I don't think it should be an ongoing because
I think that it could get hurt that way. Point
in case Gotham. Well, hold on. I don't think
you can compare a Batman show with Gotham. I
know Gotham's terrible. I'm just saying like
Gotham is terrible because you're never going
to get that payoff. Whereas Batman. You know,
if it was an actual Batman show, I feel like
you would. Yeah, so I Don't know I mean I would
love to see him even if it's like as a brief
part where he shows up an arrow from time to
time Like as a He shows up in there like dire
need type thing. He doesn't need to do that It
could just be like the simple things like put
him on the screen like or have Bruce Wayne. Yeah
That's not an expensive thing and they don't
have to put him in the suit Because at least
not right away They always seem to be dancing
around it like they turn arrow into Batman and
they've teased Nightwing like for the last two
seasons like blood haven and and even on Twitter,
you know, like they They tease that they've like
cast someone to be Nightwing Which for all we
know now that that property stuck over in TNT
so but it's still the same show writers but it's
not the same network no so that's a that's a
bigger hindrance to the whole crossover thing
in my opinion and i've said it before and i'll
just say it again because we mentioned teen titans
i really wish it was a half -hour sitcom so they
should just send rory harper over there who knows
maybe that's where he's gonna end up Yeah, cuz
he's not a show regular anymore on arrow so I
Guess I don't need to really talk about the end
of arrow until you've actually seen it that way
we can have like a more Complete conversation.
I'm fine about it I'm interested I Didn't this
season just bothered me from like the minute
that Sarah Lance died it's really bugged me and
his like the whole Rachel ghoul storyline just
the whole thing bothered me and I the first like
season you know the first two seasons I felt
like everything was kind of like all the characters
like earned everything through the course of
watching the show and seeing how the characters
progressed and he You get to see how they became
what they became but this season it just went
back to cool stuff happening for cool Just because
it was cool and that made it bad There's just
like lots of things that stick out and we talked
about this second ago or like 30 minutes ago
with Diggle is like the only character that came
out of this season Like Like this season mattered
Oliver like flip -flopped like every other episode
and Felicity flip -flopped every other episode
like it's like oh this oh no no that not that
oh but we're back to this and I don't and the
whole like black canary thing I really thought
that they were gonna spend time developing that
character and showing her progression like into
We kind of missed out on on Roy getting his training,
but his stuff happened off -screen right in in
between seasons and Not only that he had street
smarts to to build off of whereas Laurel did
not know and So there you know I was like oh,
we're gonna get to see you know over the course
of the entire season We're gonna get to see how
this unfolds Well, that's not what happens. Black
Canaries is kind of crammed down your throat
because they killed the Black Canary that everybody
liked. And. Not only that, they kid you not,
I believe it's the third to last episode. Laurel.
Gets bested by a thug in an alley. While she's
doing her training with Nyssa. Yeah, that just
seems so unreal. But in the next episode, she's
taking on five members of the League of Assassins
by herself. Yeah, doesn't make any sense. Wait
a second, hold on. And that's what I'm talking
about. They were just putting people in cool
situations for the sake of it being cool, not
because the story had led them there. It's like,
oh, we need this type of thing to happen now,
so it's just going to happen. That really annoyed
me, especially after the first two seasons it
felt like it took such care to make sure that
every story beat led to a change in the characters.
And the end of this season just feels so forced.
now with that that said I'm ready to write off
season 3 and I mean I'll be watching season 4
like I'm not going to give up on it just because
I feel like now with the possibility of the legends
of tomorrow crossovers well there's that and
the whole the way that they forced the ending
to this season first of all it felt very much
like it could have been a series finale and not
a season finale With the way that it ends so
I believe it just like kind of like wipes the
slate clean And it might wipe the slate clean
with all of the island crap. I Don't know So
they might get to start like with a fresher direction
with season four than they've been able to the
last three seasons Well, they still don't explain
his season or his a year, you know four to five
on the island well maybe that maybe they won't
do that because people have been complaining
about the flashbacks all through season three
so maybe they just found a way to do away with
that crap um that would be nice it'll be interesting
to see what happens i just like the rest of this
season in the end just felt very forced and this
is kind of Blah like there was no other way that
it could end and Dan and I had a conversation
about this I was talking with him about it and
he said that Amel said that this season would
have a very strange ending Like it would feel
very weird and I told her I said that's not an
excuse. They shouldn't have to tell you that
that's like I I likened it to Last fall when
Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed unity and the
game was busted all the hell. Like, it was broken.
And they had to issue, like, apologies. And when
they did their reveal for the next Assassin's
Creed coming out this fall, they, like, prefaced
it by saying, we learned from our mistakes from
Unity. And so it's, you know, we've learned from
that, and we're not gonna make the same mistakes
again. It's like, you shouldn't... Have to say
that you should never have released a product
to where you have to make those kind of statements
like You shouldn't have to You shouldn't have
to offer me Incentive I'm sorry your show should
be enough of an incentive for me to want to watch
it You know I'm saying like mm -hmm not it shouldn't
be You shouldn't be like in the middle of the
season be like we know we screwed this up. Just
stay with us through the end But when we get
to Comic -Con and we show you the trailer for
season four, you'll love it. You shouldn't have
to say that stuff. Just stand with it and just
let it ride? But not even that. I'm saying your
stuff should be good enough. That's what I'm
saying. It should be good enough that you don't
have to deliver statements like that. Like, please,
Hank, please stay with us. You shouldn't have
to plead for people to... watch your show, your
show should be good enough for people to want
to watch it. So, you know, him, Amel, coming
out and saying, yeah, it's going to be a really
weird ending given the way the rest of the season
went. That's not. That's dumb, like, especially
since you're not doing that in the show, you're
doing that as the actor, like, you know, as you're
not doing that as Oliver, you're doing that as
Steve Amel. So. But. At least Deadpool looks
promising. Here's the funny thing about Deadpool,
this is all I'll say about it. Even if that movie's
a piece of crap, don't you think that's just
gonna add to it? I think it's gonna be great,
just because it's just gonna be fun. Well, no,
no, no, no. I agree. I'm just saying. But even
if it's a piece of crap, don't you think that's
just gonna add to what the movie is? Yeah. Even
if it's bad, it's still gonna be good because
it's bad. Because that's kind of it's like what
a very nice Yeah, it's a very Deadpool esque
thing or a way to look at it. I guess is What
I'm saying So let's I think especially him trying
to murder Mario Lopez again So I guess that's
all I've got for this week Yeah, I think that's
all I'll leave it at there's there's other stuff
I could bring out, but we'll just save it for
next week give us some incentive to talk about
something then. So if there's any kind of comments,
questions, suggestions, be sure to let us know

so I've got three episodes in the can, enough
to get us through the middle of June. Nice. I'm
slowly getting what I want, I just have to get
more people involved with it. Yeah, so yeah,
just check out the new off the cuff let us know
what you think if you hate it I know we're gonna
be doing a two e3 specials with the four of us
again one is a predictions episode for e3 and
then the other one is kind of a post -mortem
of e3 like here's our predictions and the what
did we get episode so Awesome I Have I've got
two different things going on besides stuff with
the site. I'm taking a cinematography class at
my local community college, which is actually
funny because there are two people in it that
I've had in previous classes that I've taken.
One was in my acting class last semester, and
the other guy is named Guy. Hey. Yeah. He's in
my class again. The last time he was in my class
was at the intro media class. And of course,
in this class, we have to shoot a film. It has
to be up to 10 minutes length. And then depending
on how good it is, it gets into a film festival.
There was like nine different film pitches during
Wednesday in class, and then we had to vote on
them. The one I voted for was like the second
highest by like one point. which is actually
kind of humorous. We're going to be using the
theater again. Oh, cool. So it's going to be
one of those late night video audio video records.
And I'm the editor and sound guy for the for
the film. So that will be fun. I'm not the director.
I'm not the writer, script writer or anything.
I don't have to worry about anything, but. Being
I've already done it there before it's gonna
make it a little bit easier on me They don't
realize how little time you actually get when
you're in there to get stuff shot and get it
done and get out right, so Coordinating with
people is going to be a big issue. I have a feeling
but we'll see So yeah, I'm interested in doing
that to see how that turns out I'm trying to
get on top of more than what I need to to make
sure crap gets done. The other thing is I'm taking
the web class on edx .org which is online courses
from various universities. So you get university
credit. It's completely online. You can register
for whatever. I mean they have like HTML5 classes.
They have You know like Math they've got you
know physics. They've got alien worlds They even
have one that's for It's it's for comic books
Which it's Log in so I get the exact name, but
it's the rise of superheroes and their impact
on pop culture Which is from the Smithsonian
and this website. I'm taking that class. It's
just started the fifth and we're in our first
week right now. They have you filling out the
superhero sketch pads, which is basically your
assignment. You watch various videos where they're
going through the history of stuff in the courseware.
It's done by... The entire course is by Michael
Uslan. Don't know if you know who he is. Nope.
Okay. He's the He's the guy that's like a executive
producer on basically Any Batman movie that's
come out in the last 30 years, okay? He's he's
also the he had a comic book class accredited
at a major university by basically Showing how
it ties into history and mythology like for instance
Superman story is very very close and akin to
Moses Okay in almost every way So like they go
into the history of that kind of stuff and you
know show you very stuff from the early days
of comics from when they were like magazines
to actual comic books and then Stan Lee is a
part of the the teaching staff and they bring
him in periodically, but it's Michael Uslan mostly
that is doing the stuff. But it says that he's
professor of comic books, first ever college
accredited course on comic books way back in
the early 1970s at Indiana University. He's running
this entire class. It's like a five week class
and at the end They have like a final project
and you send in all your Sketchboard which are
basically you fill out PowerPoints With whatever
information you have to fill in and You get a
certificate Not sure exactly how that's going
to be done whether it's an actual certificate
or a PDF or something but it's gonna have like
the signature of like Stanley and Michael Usland
and You get a couple of art pieces and basically
you're accredited or you have a certificate of
saying that you've verified, certified that you
know what you're talking about with this stuff.
I just thought it would be cool to take and try
it out. It would make me a little bit more of
a knowledgeable person on comic books when I
talk on show. So, I could say, look, I've got
a certificate. Oh, you'd be one of those people.
Yeah. Fantastic. I wouldn't flaunt it, unless
it's a TFG one, just to mention. But yeah, that's
all I was going to throw out there. I'm not sure
if they're still doing that or not, but it's
fun so far. Anyhow, until next time. See you
later. Bye
