About this Episode

Steve, Mike Powers, and Mike Blanchard explore when 4K resolution excels—nature documentaries and YouTube content shine with clarity, while movies and TV shows benefit more from color and HDR than pixel count. They debate the NES Mini's $60 value and limitations without internet or expandable storage, discuss LEGO modular sets including the Ghostbusters Firehouse and the Brickumentary documentary, and share impressions of the new Ghostbusters film and its innovative use of 3D. The conversation also covers DC TV's Supergirl integration across universes, Philips Hue smart lighting systems, and Sulu's portrayal as gay in Star Trek Beyond.

Welcome to altered geek unlimited. I'm your host

Steve Megatron Phillips and joining me this week

are The dynamic duo of mics. Oh, no No, no, that's

right And and with that this is my last appearance

on alter geek I am I am no part of a dynamic

duo You just think about it though we have Five

mics between the three of us if you actually

count the microphones Steve is so outnumbered

That is a poor joke It just means that the show

can't go on without me This is true. You're special

Because there's only one of me. Yeah Unless I

need my headphones Steve then I'm screwed you

need a Steve to wrangle them all up throw all

the mics in a barrel. Um, oh. Yep. Anyways. I

did that once. To clarify, it's uh, Mike the

Ginger Powers. Yes. Fans of the show should know.

Yeah, I mean, seriously, this show's been going

on for three years, so. I'm on so infrequently.

I'm only on when I buy a new TV. I know. That

was a funny comment. I guess we can roll right

into those. Yeah. so You did say you had more

to say about your TV now that you've actually

gotten to use it I did I think I've come to a

conclusion with like 4k in general I Have yet

to verify this just a couple things. I have to

I'm gonna verify after I move Because I'll have

the ability I'll be by myself for a week, so

I'll be I have to do something to occupy my time

And I'll have the ability to put two 4k monitors

side by side and I can play Yeah, I can stream

4k Netflix on one and then I can stream the same

show and 4k Netflix with HDR Which is the new

high dynamic range on the other ones I can actually

see What the difference is supposed to be all

about? As far as that goes I still I don't know

if I said this on last week's episode, but I

know I had a conversation on Twitter with Who

was it? Tune Master Tim? Yeah. About high dynamic

range. I really can't. I can't put my finger

on it. I haven't seen it demoed very well because

every time I see it, there's the cynic in me

that goes, is that just color? You know, is that

footage just recolor timed or what is the brightness?

Not just cranked up on it. So I've got to see

a compelling argument for myself. But that said,

I think. When it comes to like my wife and I

have been watching 4k stuff on YouTube all week

long Like movie trailers and nature footage,

which all looks Spectacular. It looks like what

you expect 4k to look like it's ultra clear Looks

like a window in your living room into like this

place that you're probably never gonna go And

that looks amazing and that's like one half of

what 4k offers is that increase in resolution

and I think that documentaries like, you know,

IMAX films and, you know, just documentaries

in general, that's where like the resolution

for 4K is gonna really shine. When it comes to

watching movies in 4K, I think that you're not,

I think that's gonna be more a color. 4k or ultra

high definition is gonna be and for movies is

gonna come down to the color of the movie and

the the range of color that they're able to show

more so than the resolution of it because a lot

of directors and things like that when they're

you know when they're editing movies and they're

trying to come up with a certain tone or look

they can often you know put a little what was

it like a little bit of Vaseline on the camera

lens of life yep so it's not gonna be You never

you never look like primetime television never

looks like you're actually in the room with those

people Yeah Where daytime television does look

like you're in the room with those people and

so that's kind of the difference and When you're

looking at a movie like a movie is never gonna

look like you're in the room with those people

And I don't think people actually want that I

know I don't want that but when I sit down and

I try to watch a show a TV show like daredevil

in in 4k I keep going I'm not seeing the detail.

I'm not seeing the detail. But I feel like the

details there, but like the clarity that I'm

looking for is not there. And the color is if

that makes any sense to anybody that's listening.

So documentary stuff, nature stuff like that

is going to shine in terms of clarity. But movies

are it's just going to be about like actually

bringing home that that movie theater quality

to your home. That's kind of the conclusion I

came I came to over this past week because Was

watching a lot of documentary stuff and then

watching just you know 4k TV shows on Netflix

and That was that was my takeaway with it. So

if if if you know that That helps anybody when

they're looking into 4k stuff then awesome Because

I never had the ability with my old TV. I couldn't

stream 4k Netflix. So I was only limited to The

4k that came off of Netflix I couldn't seem working

YouTube. Sorry So it's only limited the content

that came off of Netflix and I never felt like

that was that great because like I said That

was like that's TV shows and to see all the demos

that they play in the store like I can bet I

can now play those on my TV because they're on

YouTube and 4k and That's awesome. They look

phenomenal. But when you watch a TV show in 4K

or a movie in 4K, it's completely different.

So people shouldn't expect that clarity, I guess.

So how long before we get 5K, 6K and 7K? They

actually have 8K cameras. Yeah, well, who is

it? Samsung or LG in their home country has an

8K. Display that they're selling Wow Which for

most of us is overkill It is but for me the way

I look at like the way I play the resolution

game is I look for I've said this before too,

but just as a refresher because I'm not on all

that much but the For me the higher resolution

display the closer to the look of film they can

actually bring into the home Because film 35

millimeter film or 70 millimeter film You couldn't

hide anything really what was shot was caught

and so you don't lose anything It's they the

projectionist the older guys called it infinite

grain So there was no like there was no there's

no resolution for film. If you see it you capture

it in all of its detail And you lose that stuff

when you step down to when you actually have

to start assigning a parameter of like 1920 by

1080. You lose the you lose the subtle details.

So the higher the resolution of the display,

the more information you get to keep when you're

coming from 35 millimeter film. So that's one

of the things like I'm really looking forward

to picking up Sony released Ghostbusters in 4K.

Not not a 4K remaster, but an actual ultra high

definition version. Is that the new one 84 right?

Yeah. Yeah the 1984 and there is Ghostbusters

and Ghostbusters 2 in 4k From from a scan of

the original 35 millimeter print So I'm really

excited to see that once I have a player because

I still don't have a player I'm waiting for the

new PlayStation 4 for that And then the the other

one I really want to see is Independence Day

because Fox re -released Independence Day An

ultra high definition and both of those as you

know, because they're so old They were all done

on 35 millimeter. So those should look Pretty

good in my opinion granted I have nothing other

I have nothing to go for other than to go off

of other than the source that they're coming

from Yeah, is the superior source? Yeah, I mean

Ghostbusters 32 years old and Independence Day

is 20 years old this year As for me, I'm arms

deep and knee deep in soundtrack stuff for La

La Land Records because San Diego Comic Con is

coming up July 20th to the 24th. Yes, so I get

this seven releases at the convention to our

Vinyl releases one for Star Trek the 50th anniversary.

It's there now a Star Trek vinyl release for

that and then they're gonna have a Wonder Woman

75th anniversary seven inch picture disc release

the Wonder Woman one has Season the season one

and season three theme on it And then they're

going to have five other double CD releases.

Flash Season 2, Supergirl Season 1, The Killing

Joke, Justice League, and Batman Animated Series

Volume 4. So that's what I've been kind of focusing

on this past week. Steve? As for myself... I've

been doing the altered gaming video segments

on YouTube. I haven't decided whether I want

to do anything on Twitch or not or if I just

want to stick with YouTube. I prefer the method

of YouTube better because it's easier for me

to... I don't have to do anything. It just uploads

on its own after I get done with the stream.

So I enjoyed that method more so Plus I have

no idea how twitch works in its entirety. So

I I'd rather not deal with that plus the videos

don't last forever on there So in my experience

Twitch works as far as setting it up. It works

a lot like YouTube does But you I believe you

have to set up archiving. I'm gonna archive things

for you automatically. It's just a setting what

I've read What I read is it will archive, but

it doesn't permanently archive. Right. Whereas

YouTube does. I think there's a way you can set

it to permanently archive. I think there's a

toggle. At least there was, but they might have

finally gotten rid of it. But I think they got

rid of it. I think there isn't. Isn't there an

export to YouTube option from Twitch? Well, you

have to use external software and I can stream

on the one and I can have it recorded to my hard

drive to upload to the other. it won't upload

to both well no no like it when you save it it

will go out to uh um like once you once you've

recorded and it's captured in twitch and it's

stored on there i think there's a way to send

it to youtube oh okay i have no idea how that

works i know that when i'm recording it i have

the option to um live stream to the one and then

download to the other but Well, it's more so

I downloaded my computer and then I have to upload

it but That that was my first trial of it any

way of trying out twitch So I've been mostly

doing YouTube because I understand the methodology

better. Yeah. Yeah and then So I've been messing

with that. I recorded a top 10 Batman bat suits

Video the other day while I was on lunch at work

Just to kind of try and see how well I could

edit and how quickly I could edit a 10 minute

video Throwing a bunch of clips together. So

and I learned how to do the Annotations and the

cards at the end where you link specific sections

of the video Which I had no clue how to do before

so that was kind of fun learning experience and

then So yeah, I did that and then been messing

with various aspects of the website and planning

future content and playing Battlefield 1. That

game looks pretty impressive from what I've seen

of your first stream. I've enjoyed playing the

game. I enjoy it much more than I do playing

Battlefield 4, but I think it's because one,

Battlefield 4's old hat, two, the future tech

tends to do worse. on me in the sense that while

yes I am good with some of it I tend to get sniped

from across the map which is ridiculous because

I could be laying down in a building against

a different wall and they will shoot through

the wall but there's no like bullet mark or anything

like no no way that it could have shot through

like six buildings on its way to you but because

they have like this infrared thing that they

can see through the walls they can somehow get

you whereas in this game it's like pretty much

line of sight Hmm. It's it's very practical and

realistic as far as like how the weapons work

so Not to derail you for a second, but I just

logged into my twitch account and you can there

is a It works a lot like YouTube where you can

see your video clips that you've made And your

stuff and then there's just a simple export button

that sends it right to YouTube. Oh nice. So it

Yeah, if you want plus I think twitch has a lower

Delay for chat Okay, then YouTube does so if

you're actually getting user engagement That

might be something to look into but yeah, you

would just you know You just stream it to twitch

and then once you're done it gets saved there

for a little bit But you can permanently export

it to YouTube So, okay, it's yeah cuz I I haven't

had any user engagement yet, but it's more so

because I've been doing it randomly It hasn't

really been a set time So but I've just been

doing it just so I can play And then if somebody

shows up I'll talk and if not, I just kind of

ramble for a little bit and then kind of disappear

into the game Because like I'll forget I'm on

the stream at some points and then I'll jump

back in And then of course earlier this week

I met Birdman Dodd in person How'd that go? Pretty

well. I mean I met up with him in Grand Blanc

actually we went to CC's pizza Oh, here you take

him to Cece's. He wanted to go to see. Yeah,

he that wasn't my first choice. He's he's Canadian.

He doesn't know what he likes. Well, he's he's

trying like every different place that's not

in Canada on his way through. So he's like he's

hit up a Sonic's. He's hit up, you know. And

then I was like, have you tried Arby's? Have

you tried, you know, Big John's taking on you?

No, what's that? And I tell them because like

it's I think it's pretty much a Michigan thing.

So like he's yeah, he's he was going through

and then he was looking for like the yachto cooler

and a lot of the Ghostbusters themed food and

drinks and So far had not found any when he was

going through But yeah, I mean I hung out with

him and his wife for a little bit ate lunch and

hung out had some good conversation and then

of course, I went back to work and then he continued

on his journey, but Yeah Cool. Yep. Um Real quick

before we move on to bigger and better things

One thing I forgot to mention on last week's

show and One thing one other thing that I've

gotten into it in the last week So two things

the oldest one is I have I don't know sure people

have seen the pictures on Facebook or Twitter

But I have a new addition to my Lego collection

Which is the Lego Wall -E? Oh, yeah Haven't seen

that yet. Yeah, I I was like I was looking for

this guy for I I get emails from Lego saying

when stuff is coming and this is part of like

the Lego ideas thing which used to be the cool

So where fans can vote on what sets they want

Lego to make In this this particular set was

actually done by a guy that works at Pixar So

he built the wall the Wally set and you know

people voted for it and it got turned into something.

Well, it was supposed to be released last September

while I was in Chicago with my wife. And so that

was one of the things I was planning to pick

up at the Lego store out there. And the day it

was supposed to come out, I started seeing reports

on the internet that it had been recalled for

like faulty parts. And I was kind of like, how

do you have faulty parts with Legos? Like, it's

the same parts for forever. So I I still went

to the store the Lego store and asked them because

you know Maybe some of them got sent to the store

and they were selling them before you know They

actually got recalled, but alas they were not

they had all been They never actually received

their shipment so every once in a while when

I go to a Lego store I'd always ask do you guys

have a release date for the for the Wall -E and

everyone would say no no no we don't And we're

really bummed about it But this last time, when

my wife and I went down to Columbus to find a

place to live, we stopped by a Lego store that

was in the mall down there. And I went in and

I said, hey, do you guys, you know, by chance

have a release date for the Wall -E? And the

guy looks at me and he goes, well, we don't have

it, but the Barnes and Noble does. I'm like,

in my head, I didn't say this to the guy, but

in my head, I'm like, why would the, why would

a Barnes and Noble have like a Lego exclusive

set? and not the actual Lego store, you know,

and so my wife and I went over to Barnes and

Noble and went up to, you know, their little

toy slash kid department, whatever it is. And

I'm looking. I don't see it. I don't see like

I see like the Ninjago and all this other like

Lego crap that's just out there. And I don't

see it. I don't see it. But I keep poking around

and I find one one like stuffed so far back behind

everything else. that you know someone was in

there earlier like a kid was in there and like

you hit it so he could possibly come back and

and get it you know or an employee because employees

do that yeah yeah yeah well i i found it so i

i bought it and it's uh honestly i think it's

one of the coolest lego sets like i own um it's

It's it's it's gorgeous to look at actually has

a personality like my wife can't stop staring

at it It looks like Wally And it's nice the only

thing that irks me about it and this kind of

irks me about Lego products in general, especially

the ones that I collect because they tend to

cost a little more and they They usually use

like decals for like special parts Like you'll

have to put like a sticker over like like for

example the orange pieces the orange circles

on my b -wing That's just an orange sticker on

a flat piece On the tumbler all the little porthole

windows or like the little porthole things that

like would open up It's like a circular flat

piece that has a decal over it that makes it

look like it's bolted on And so you have to put

all those on by hand and I'm like, this is ridiculous

and well Wally The Wall -E set actually has three

custom frickin' bricks. No decals for this guy.

The brick that shows the solar charge level is

a custom -made brick with the solar charge level

on it. And the Wall -E logo is actually two separate

bricks. They're not decals. They're actually

stamped on the brick. And I'm like... First of

all, there's this is a set that is very hard

to find and you wasted the time To make three

special bricks for this set that is very hard

to find Meanwhile the more expensive set that

people are paying for for higher quality stuff

That are readily available like you can't those

are stickers And the only thing that the only

thing I can think of is I bet you Disney paid

them a little bit too make them actual custom

pieces. Well you did say that it was a Disney

Pixar employee that worked on the movie that

worked on the thing so I'm sure that's probably

the case considering you're not just having your

average everyday Lego Joe or Jane worker working

on it. Yeah it's just it's you know it's just

one of those things it's like you know you pay

$250 for the the Tumblr or like you pay the same

amount for the the Avengers helicarrier and like

the little Pieces that say that this is you know,

the helicarrier 64 like that is a sticker I don't

it's just that kind of stuff just drives me nuts.

It just drives me nuts It's mind -boggling what

toy not just not just Lego either or any and

all toy companies will do that kind of stuff

They'll do, you know certain things on certain

toys and then they won't do the same The quality

control has always been outrageous on toys Think

I think even the ecto one that I have the Ghostbusters

ecto one The little ghost symbol that's on the

ecto one that is actually stamped on the brick

like these little like fifty sixty dollar sets

that are from like movies actually have specially

made stamped bricks and That's because they want

They want everybody and their mother to buy those.

It's why they're low lower price But the stamped

bricks is what I don't get right. Yeah I mean,

I think that's the thing. It's like, oh, this

is a movie license. We must do special things

to the bricks and sell it at a not necessarily

a discount, but a reasonable price. Whereas,

oh, hey, this is just this is just a Tumblr from

that one movie 11 years ago. It doesn't need

anything special. The Tumblr from the Batmobile,

the Tumblr from Batman doesn't need special pieces.

I'm saying that... I'm not saying... Them's fighting

words. No, I'm not saying that the Tumblr itself

doesn't... I'm saying that LEGO... I know what

you're saying. If they go to something like,

oh, they're like, oh, Ghostbusters, that's coming

back, so let's do something special with it,

yet this vehicle from an 11 -year -old movie,

who cares, just put a sticker on it. Toy companies

oh And real quick before I get too far aside

the other thing too. This is kind of techie and

geeky I finally Talked my wife into letting me

getting into letting me start getting a piecing

together some hue Phillips hue lighting systems.

Oh Cool. Are you guys familiar with this stuff?

So it is smart lighting for your home. Oh, okay.

Yeah. So the bulbs have like Wi -Fi chips in

them and they talk to a bridge, which then talks

to your router, which then talks to your phone.

So you can set up neat little things like geofencing.

So like if you pull in the driveway after like

10 p .m., it'll turn the lights on in the kitchen.

Like when you pull in. So you're not fumbling

around your house trying to hit the light switches.

You can. I wanted them for like a while. But

I never really had a way to kind of sell my wife

on it. And the last day I worked at Best Buy,

I walked by the connected home section, which

I've walked by a dozen times, but I kind of stopped

looking at the Hue light things because my wife

was always like, no, that's ridiculous. It's

like that's pointless. Why would you have that?

And they made this. It looks like it like it

goes on a nightstand. So I got to. The way you

have to have I bought two of those one for each

nightstand and then I bought you have to you

have to have a bridge and So all the light bulbs

talk to the bridge and the bridge talks to your

router so it's not nothing's connected directly

to your router, but the And the reason for that

is because the bridge is responsible for setting

up scenes So like if you walk into a room and

say I want it to be sunset in here it the bridge

knows that These this now these four bulbs are

in your family room and you want those set to

sunset What if you do don't wear a red shirt?

But they So I found those and then I got the

I got I bought a bridge But they didn't that's

why I didn't have just the bridge which you can

buy so you can actually literally start just

piecing it together at will But they had a starter

pack which was a bridge and then it came with

two um standard a19 light bulbs which just go

in like lamps or you know anything else that

you could possibly think of for putting a light

bulb in um but you know i i sold her on the idea

that you know this is a cool nightstand you know

type thing and you can change the color of it

to match like your mood or whatever you want

it to be um and she like and and true to form

you know talking about it saying i want to buy

it it You know, she's always like, no, that's

like the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why?

Why does anyone have that? But the minute I get

it in the home and she can play with it, you

know, she's she loves it. So we wanted to. Yeah.

Yeah. So she's I've gotten the go ahead to after

we move, see what lights we actually want to

be able to control and what ones we can just

put regular LED bulbs in. And then I can, you

know, build certain things. I already know that

I'm going to get an LED light strip for the back

of my TV. And then they have these two, they're

called, they name them something really weird,

but they're called Hue Blooms. They really just

kind of cast, like, they're not directional or

anything. They just kind of cast a light out.

They're not for, like, they're for adding ambiance

rather than actual lighting. But I'm going to

put one of those on either side of my TV. And

one of the neat things you can do, which I think

I will never do actually, is if you have an Xbox

One, they can actually, the Xbox One can actually

talk to the bridge. And certain games can actually

interact with those lights. So if you're dying,

the lights themselves can turn red or they can

go back to green. And things like that. Which

I think is kind of neat. But the ps4 which is

the only console I have right now of the next

-gen ones Like can't talk to it, but I'm not

really worried about that There's another app

you can get where I'm not quite sure why anyone

would do this I'm hoping someone comes up with

another way of Being able to do this, but you

it uses the camera on your phone So you have

to have it on and facing your TV, but the camera

analyzes what you're watching and matches the

ambient lighting of those bulbs to what you're

watching. Oh, that's cool. So it kind of expands

the TV show or movie that you're or whatever

you're watching out into the room a little bit.

Yeah. But it needs the phone like you need a

phone that's permanently pointed at your TV,

which if I could if there's a way that I could

like run that through like my Nest Cam. in some

way like that would be even better because then

I don't have to use my phone but that's just

some of the neat things you can do and like I

said I don't have a whole lot that I've been

able to do but I got my foot in the door and

that's what really matters so and I'm kind I'm

kind of excited about it because I like the I

like the idea of a connected home um I really

like my Nest thermostat and the lights are neat

because when I come home well when I used to

come home the last like I've only had them for

about a week, but Saturday and Tuesday when I

came home late from the theater, when I was downstairs,

I could go on my phone and dim, I could turn

on my night light, my nightstand light from downstairs

at 5 % and actually go upstairs and get in bed

without having to turn the flashlight on on my

phone. And it doesn't go full blast, so my wife

isn't woken up. It actually starts at zero and

goes up to five, not 100 and then down to five.

But it's it's it's just neat. So are you guys

because I don't I don't remember. I listened

to last week's show, but I don't remember. Are

you guys getting another house when you move

out to Columbus or are you going to rent? We

have a townhouse. OK, so I've never been in a

townhouse, but if. I mean, my parents have been

in a townhouse, but that was like a long time

ago and they were able to do like a ton of stuff

in there. Yeah, I was I was recently before my

house. So so I don't know what I and I haven't

been able to ask what we're going to be able

to do. So obviously the light bulbs I can change

out. That's fine. Yeah. But I'm going to ask

them if I can hook up my nest in there, too,

because I we really like it. But I have no, like

grand plans of like trying to like do anything

crazy. Like I'm pretty much going to try to treat

it like an apartment. Because I just I don't

want to be responsible for a whole bunch of stuff

when I move out. But we're going to do that for

a year or two. And then we're going to like probably

the second year or the third year, we're going

to take a real hard look at the market and find

a house that we actually like. Yeah, like 100

percent. or we're going to probably build a house.

Oh, cool. The the reason the reason I give that

time frame is because according to my dad, if

you sell a house you have like, but you don't

buy one, you have like three years before you

actually have to pay capital gains tax or something

like that on it. Oh, yeah. So we have like a

three year window to like buy a new home or something

like that. So we're just going to take our time,

get a feel for the area. And the nice thing,

though, is where we're moving is like at the

beginning of like a massive subdivision. Nice.

So it's all really nice homes that we could kind

of just like get an idea of what's there. And

really, truthfully, I want to build a home because

I want to be able to run ethernet to every fricking

room. I wish to. I've had no one needs ethernet

in the bathroom. Well, no. You don't know that.

But yeah, you don't know that. You could have

a smart toilet. Yeah. Yeah. It knows. It sends

all the information to your doctor. And it knows

you want to watch that episode of The Flash while

you're in there. It just knows. But yeah, because

that's one of my every time any house I move

into, it's like I immediately even this house

and the house before I was like. I got to run

Ethernet. I did that like the first week I was

here. My dad came over. I ordered a bunch of

Ethernet cable from Monoprice and we started

putting holes in wall and ran it down in the

basement and just because anything that I can

hardwire, I hardwire. Yeah, I've been doing that

too. But yeah, I would love to be able to do

that. I don't know so much about. like running

HDMI and stuff like that. The other thing I'd

really like to do is I got this idea from my

uncle is if you're doing in wall runs, use PVC

piping for your in wall runs with cable because

what that does is it leaves a nice big fat opening.

So if you ever need to replace the cable, you

tie your new cable onto your old cable and then

you can pull it through the wall. Yeah, and I

really like that ideas like I'm like that that's

just like the best stuff about like I Know about

that stuff like when you so when I go to build

a house that thing is gonna be wired like Yeah

When I was younger Well, it was about 23 years

ago, actually I was 13 or 14 when I first moved

here to Kentucky we had lived in a house that

was about three or four blocks away from a New

subdivision and the subdivision was so new that

you know houses were going in and being built

like every two weeks is like Just watching a

live -action Monopoly game board with houses.

Just I mean these houses would just pop up pop

up pop up and the subdivision was amazing I thought

you know that was great and then A year later

in 94, my dad and my then -stepmother had bought

land out in the middle of Shelby County here

in Kentucky. They built themselves a two -story

log cabin. I've seen through most of my family

on my mom's side. My grandfather, when he was

alive, my three uncles who are still alive now,

they're all carpenters and that kind of stuff.

I've seen all kinds of houses built and everything

else. I just love watching that process. It's

just an amazing amazing process. Yeah, I like

I like I like watching homes being built when

I was a kid or a teen I used to Grand Blank was

like the late 90s early 2000s Grand Blank was

going through like major expansion So subdivisions

were popping up like all over the place and at

night or sometimes during the day like on a Saturday

or Sunday like I would go to those construction

sites and go like walk through the homes and

um you know see where these people were gonna

the coolest one that I saw um was this uh it

was it was the cool it was a bathroom um and

it was like this uh a shower tub combination

but not like anything I've ever seen so you've

got the tub and then Obviously everyone knows

what a tub looks like and so thinking if you

put a platform off of the the lip of the tub

and go like Off to the to the left. Yeah more

then there's the shower. So there were steps

to go up to the shower Yeah, and the walk, you

know So you walk up to get in in the shower and

the water in the shower like flows waterfalls

over into the tub the tub. Yeah I've never seen

that anywhere other than this house. And I was

like, that is okay. That's awesome. I don't know.

That's impractical, but awesome. I've seen something

similar to that, but I've never actually seen

the water flow between them, like flow from the

shower to the tub. But I've seen designs like

that. Every now and then I'll say on social media

or whatever else, I miss watching HGTV. I know

I can go on their website and all that stuff,

but since I don't currently have cable, since

I cut the cord a while ago, I used to love watching

all that HGTV stuff because it just had so much

information and you just never know when you're

going to need that kind of stuff. Doesn't matter

what show it is on that network. Yeah, I just

have an idea of what I want just from what I've

always tried to do like in a home Oh, yeah, second

second. I walked in I'm like, okay internet and

all this stuff. So I I'm just excited. I like

I said, I'd rather build but if I can get a home

that is I Sometimes you can walk into a home

where they've finished the structure but not

inside So all the none of the drywalling is actually

done right? Yeah The framework and the overall

structure of the house is there that you can

then customize the entire home Mm -hmm. So like

but like I said, we've got we've got three years

to look for something and and you need to you

know It's a new place. You're gonna have to explore

it and get used to it and and all that so I know

I don't want to move too far away from where

we're actually going because we're like and we're

we're in like a prime Like it's ridiculous how

many things like how many? Things are like I

am within ten minutes of like two best buys.

I think three Apple stores Just I'm it's it's

gonna be ridiculous for me like not to spend

money It's like the places I like to spend money

right now or like an hour or more away Yeah,

it's like I can't spend a whole lot of money.

You can just walk to them. Yeah pretty much So

I'm I'm sure my wife's thrilled about that, but

she's talked about like, you know She's gonna

go there's lots of places for her to find like

a part -time job Which she said that's all she

wants to do for a little bit and I'm fine with

that But I'm kind of trying to get her to get

a job at either Best Buy so I can still get like

discounts on stuff Or the Lego store Because

that's the other thing I you know, I spend a

lot of money on tech and I spend a lot of money

on Legos Who doesn't love Legos though? I just

I love them more now like than I did growing

up But I don't play with them like I used to

like now I kind of they are the model kit. Yeah

What model kits were to my dad? That's what Lego

is to me now like I remember growing up He bought

me like the ecto the the ecto one urdle kit I

think it was If I butchered that name I apologize,

but he bought me that and I remember putting

that together with him as like the kitchen table

But I don't have that model kit anymore But what

I do have is the Lego Ecto one and I like nice.

I love that I cherished that I put that together

and that's on display like I Buy Legos the way

my dad bought model kits gross. Yeah so no, they

I mean they really cuz like the invention for

Lego like Lego now is, I would say, 50 % of their

business is not necessarily knockoff. I don't

mean knockoff designs, but the pirate stuff that

isn't Pirates of the Caribbean, their non -licensed

stuff is pretty much for kids. And it seems to

me that all the licensed stuff, like... Ghostbusters

and Batman and all that is for the adult collector

to the point of oh, okay I'm gonna have fun building

this and then it's you know, it's gonna sit proudly

on my shelf for display I Agree to an extent.

I think that the growing up there was always

the model team Legos Which I was never fortunate

enough to have any of and now they're now they

have like the ultimate collector series And that's

what I've gotten into. That's what my B -Wing

is, the X -Wing, the Tumbler, and the Helicarrier.

They actually come with a stand that you display

them on, and they have a little placard that

gives you fun facts about the actual ship or

the actual thing that you just built a model

of. Nice. So they're made for display purposes.

But the other cool thing, though, is that they

have... I have two of them. I have the firehouse

and I have the shopping center, but I haven't

put it together yet. It's still in the box. They,

they have this, that's a cityscape and you buy

them in individual sections, but they're designed

to be put together. Like as you're, as you're

building it at the bottom of each one, there's,

um, Technic pieces. So they snap together. and

they form like one long sidewalk and you can

buy like, you know, an ice cream parlor or a

theater and chain them all together. And one

of the cool things that they did is the Ghostbusters

Firehouse is part of that extension. Oh, sweet.

Like it can be added. They made it so it can

be added into that setting, which I think is

really cool. In talking about Lego, I watched

a couple weeks ago. I watched I saw it on Amazon

I don't know if it's on Netflix or Hulu, but

the Brickumentary the the Lego Brickumentary

movie It's like an hour and a half 90 minute

long documentary on the history of like and it's

done It's kind of like right around when they

were getting ready to Right before episode 7

came out. So there's like a big Star Wars reveal

in there and then the narrator Is a Lego piece

and I'm pretty sure it was done by the same guys

that did like the animators that did like the

Lego movie Not not Chris Miller and Phil Lord

But Was it Phil Miller and Chris Lord? I can't

remember their names. I know it's like Miller

and Lord anyways It's not done by them, but the

animators that actually made the movie There's

a little brick that kind of walks you through

like the history and narrates the whole thing.

It's it's pretty cool Yeah, I just searched both

Netflix and Hulu. The only thing that pops up

is something called Brickleberry. So I'm not

sure I even searched Lego 2 and nothing Must

it must be on Amazon then so if you have an Amazon

Prime member or Amazon video membership or whatever

It's and you like Lego. I think it's worth checking

out they they go in like the culture of it, too

Like I need to watch it again with my wife because

there's things like if you're like a Lego fan

and you're married there's like they have like

nicknames for like the wives of Like Lego fans

like in and all these like short short terms.

It's it's it's pretty interesting So very cool

What's next Steve well So Yeah, speaking of some

old nostalgia What do you guys thoughts on the

new SN er the new NES mini from Nintendo It looks

cool. I don't know if it's practical I Hmm. I'm

on the fence. I'm 90 % sure I'm gonna get one

because there's some games that it comes with

that I think my wife would enjoy playing It comes

with 30 games. I do know that and Some of the

games not like Super Mario and Metroid and stuff

like that those I'm interested in like there's

there's things about it that that I think are

interesting and Like I said, I'll probably end

up picking one up but mainly so that my wife

can enjoy it and by extension me but At the same

time I was almost immediately turned off by the

idea because they Typical Nintendo fashion they

like kneecapped it like in In the foot or you

know, they shot it in the knees if you will or

shot it in the foot However, you want to put

it? because I feel like I would have paid, it's

$60 for 30 games in the hardware and it's like

$10 for an extra controller. So it comes with

a controller in the little box and whatever.

I still haven't seen how it hooks up to a TV.

Is it an HDMI cable? What is it? I'm not entirely

sure, but I'm thinking it's the same fashion

as the Wii U. Yeah, it's probably an HDMI cable

and my guess is it's all running on an emulated

hardware and stuff like that. But here's the

thing. There's no internet connectivity for the

thing and there's no external storage. So it's

a one -off it's it's a lot It's a more expensive

version of those Atari connect me to the TV and

have some fun for five -minute things that came

out like a few years ago I'm sorry to interrupt

you. I'm looking at the article on end gadget

for it like you said 60 bucks preloaded games

HDMI AC adapter and one nest classic controller,

okay, so In my opinion, I feel like that's a

little short -sighted because if there's any

kind of problem with those games like at that

emulator They better make sure that those game

all those games work on that emulator because

like There's no way to fix it because I can't

connect to the internet. So it's it's it's got

to go in one in one go which Okay, we'll see

how that works out And I guess I won't really

knock it for that. But what I'm kind of bummed

about is and personally me for this device, I

probably would have paid 40 more dollars for

a device that could connect to the Internet and

had access to external storage because I would

like to be able to download other games. Right.

Why? Like, sure, I will pay one hundred dollars

for 30 games up front and the hardware to eventually

get nickel and dime for other games down the

road. Yeah. And I guess but that that's just

me. I'm hoping beyond hope though, like if this

does well, the other reason I kind of want to

buy it because if it does well, I really want

to go out on a limb and say they might do the

same thing for the SNES. Oh, I would buy the

SNES. Yeah, if they did, that would be so awesome.

And I would too. And that's one of the reasons

why like I'm going, OK, I want to buy this to

support the idea. But at the same time, I feel

like they kneecap themselves in the foot. I mean,

OK, they OK, with the no internet connectivity,

I can see that they kind of kneecap themselves.

But at the same time. Look at it. It's a mini

video game system with 30 games for the price

of one PC or Console like for the price of Halo

7 or whatever, you know Arkham. Yeah, no, I get

the value I'm not I'm not arguing value at all.

I'm I'm just saying that Enough for for being

a new rendition. It should have had more features

Well, and I'm kind of surprised that Nintendo

didn't try to take the you know Take the approach

of yeah, we'll give you 30 games up front but

down the road when we release Super Mario Brothers

3 on this bad boy We're gonna want five bucks.

Yeah, you know like And then this thing cool

that I mean they could have put their virtual

console and made this just like a classic Yeah,

I think that's what but that's what this is They

took the the NES virtual console that they've

written for the Wii and the Wii U. That's what

this is like with just with just the hardware

to run that stuff and that's fine but you also

could have like that infrastructure is there

for them to sell you virtual console games like

this could have been like this could have been

so much more like i'm gonna get hate for that

i feel like i'm gonna get burned for this but

this could have been nintendo's set top box to

the family room Like, you could have put Netflix

on this thing, anything like that. This could

go in a kid's room and allow them to stream like,

kids Netflix. Like, there's so, opening up a

device to the internet allows for so many more

possibilities in this day and age to release

a piece of electronic hardware that doesn't have

the ability to connect to the internet. That's

just, I don't know why you'd do that. But, whatever.

That's that's fine. Like I said, I'll probably

buy it because I will buy it on the hope that

it sells Well, they do the same thing with the

Super Nintendo No, see the only thing that's

I mean, yeah, it's great It comes with 30 games

and you don't have to spend like anywhere from

five to eight dollars per game Like you did on

the virtual console on the Wii like me I have

some of those games already on my virtual console

Wii and I still had my Wii so like I don't But

at the same time, if I could get a Super Nintendo

with like 30 games on it for that, I would probably

spring for it. The funny thing is the UK version

does not come with an AC adapter. Well, that's

because it's the UK. I mean, well, the new that's

not really that surprising. I guess the the new

Nintendo 3DS doesn't come with a power supply

either. Yeah. So. This American version comes

to mind I I it's neat. I'm just Said I'll probably

end up getting it for my wife and so again so

we can hook up something to the TV in the bedroom

Maybe play a couple of games for probably good,

but and why is it not a wireless controller?

Yeah, I know oh my gosh well I would especially

when they've come up with that that the fact

that it's the same plug as the the classic controller

for the Wii Yeah, yeah, like I I just don't get

it's so it's so it feels like it's so a haphazard

I guess I don't know I guess I get who it's for

but at the same time it's like why no, I don't

know I would rather not have the cord and still

have the same And I'm not saying I want all this

stuff and I still would I still only want to

pay 60 bucks for it So no one jump at me for

that. I'm saying I wanted all this stuff and

I would have been able to pay the Yes, one hundred

percent. I would pay the higher price to get

that stuff. Not I want I want to wear this controller

and I want so for so for ninety nine dollars

that would have, you know, having networking

and having like the set top thing. Yeah. And

it's Nintendo. If they had shuffled the games

around a little bit, maybe made them because,

you know, some of that shovelware. But if they

like put a little more icing on the cake with

the game selection, you know, they could have

charged more than that. Oh, yeah. So. there's

you know you it's apples and oranges it's fine

it's fine for what it is i think it's a great

value for what it is it's just in this day and

age why you release something like that's that

stripped down is just kind of baffling to me.

I think what they were going for, and I could

be wrong, but I think what they were going for

is the ultimate retro feel as far as not having

a wireless controller specifically. It's, you

know, the ultimate retro look of the original

system. Does it say how long the cable is? Um...

No. It's gonna be like three feet. I mean, they

do have a list of all the games that are going

to be on it, but that's... They don't really

have any other information on it. Yeah. This

is, please do not blow into cartridges. That

was on somebody's article on it. Yeah, they won't

sell additional games for the micro -console

either. Yeah, that's because there's no add -on

storage. Yeah, which is stupid. Maybe this will

sell well enough for them to do the super with

all the stuff that you want them to do it with.

I'm hoping. Yeah. I'd be happy for a miniature

SNES and N64. I feel like the reason you don't

see a lot of N64 stuff is because that's a real...

I feel like that's a hard system. But I could

be wrong. That damn Z button. Still love the

the the GameCube when I had that I I love the

three games I bought for the GameCube I did too

Smash Brothers Melee. Yeah, yeah Metroid Prime

and Pikmin I Remember when I first saw the GameCube

I'm like, what is that? And then I looked at

the TV of my friend was the friend's house. I

was over I'm like Super Mario Sunshine, what

the hell has Nintendo done now? I had Melee,

I had the Mega Man X collection, and then I had

a lot of other games, but that was actually the

first console I bought brand new. And then the

next one I bought brand new was the Xbox 360

because everything else I've owned has been used.

But the Gamecube, the funny thing was is to justify

it. I had to buy it as a Christmas present for

everybody when I lived at my mom's. Because they

wouldn't let me have a console otherwise. And

I'm like, well, fine. And then when I went to

go move out, they're like, no, it's for everybody.

It has to stay here. And I was like, what? And

so I had to rebuy. I bought a used one when I

moved out. When I went and traded that in and

the ps2 When my brother was the last one living

at the house. He's like, hey, do you want your

GameCube back? Because he was gonna he was gonna

sell up my mom's like no you have to give him

the option he bought it and so like I was like

Well, yeah, I'm going to take it back. And so

I actually still have the I don't have the GameCube

anymore, but I got the I still got Melee and

I still got my actual controller that came with

the GameCube. And I use that to play Melee and

Brawl on my Wii. I found my GameCube controller.

No GameCube, but I found my GameCube controller

the other day in the garage. I have a funny story

about the GameCube as well. I got mine for Christmas.

Well. I was supposed to get it for Christmas.

What ended up happening is that on Black Friday,

my grandma used to take my cousins shopping,

my cousins and I shopping on Black Friday. And

we were old enough to where we could pick out

our Christmas presents, but we wouldn't get them

until Christmas. Right. Well, at the same time,

I had a job at GameStop. So I knew how to open

packaging. without making it look like it was

opened. So we actually opened up all the games

and like all three GameCubes and put the boxes

back. It's really bad. Basically, you know, we

got them and we weren't supposed to get them

until Christmas because I got them out of the

box and boxed everything back up the way it's

supposed to be. And Before my grandma wrapped

them. I actually did put them back in the boxes

But we had already gotten them out and enjoyed

them and played all the games and everything

So it was that's that's that's cruel yeah, but

you know it actually it's really funny cuz One

of the games I I got harvest moon. I used to

be really into harvest moon and This is that

same year. I got harvest moon on the ps2 I was

like super excited and it was gonna be a Christmas

game, but I I opened it up and Like played it

early and I was like, this is garbage so I ended

up like returning it and buying myself like a

different game that I Wanted so I didn't have

to get like a bad game Nice so Yeah, we were

a little times with gaming we were little butt

heads Fun times with gaming So yeah, I don't

know if any of you guys have been paying attention

to this at all but and no, I'm not talking about

the The thing you catch with no I don't know

I'm not opening in that can of worms because

I have a very opinionated view on it and I'm

not gonna go there so I've been playing Transformers

Earth Wars on my phone, right? And it's basically

base building and then you collect the transformers

like various one star to four star and of course

four stars better and You build bases and attack

each other for energon and alloy that allows

you to read to build up your bases and upgrade

your characters and it's basically just a giant

like giant war on earth and you take over territory

and get to demolish part of the territory to

make room for more of your base and I've been

playing for about two weeks, which is about Two

weeks longer than you played any other cell phone

game Yeah And it's it's very addicting because

like I can't I'm I get it on an upgrade right

now on the base and it takes a lot longer when

you're not willing to spend the 1999 or the 999

or whatever it is to Get all the stuff you need

to upgrade faster and sooner and to pay for the

characters you want. So yeah, it's been fun playing

it. It's just the waiting game, but generally

I play for about, you know, until I run out of

whatever it is, resources or battle points, and

then I go back in. But the bases are pretty cool.

They use a space bridge mechanism to get more

characters sent to Earth to fight on your behalf.

you can upgrade your characters so they can level

up to as high as level 50. But yeah, I've already

figured out tactics by fighting other people.

What the best scenarios are with your mortars

and your laser guns and your autocannons and

your anti -air cannons, like if you cluster them

all together. and then you put like stasis lock

mines in between them and then you put walls

like you build a giant like impenetrable wall

around them so if they do manage to break through

the wall they're just getting pelted the whole

time on their way to your base and your base

is in like the far back corner you pretty much

can't lose it's kind of a dick move but I saw

somebody else do it to me and I was like oh okay

so this is how this is gonna go down so So yeah,

I have I don't have any like big substantial

people right now, but I've got like Megatron

Slipstream some of the Predacons like of the

Decepticon manner Swindle Bludgeon Starscream

Skyward Thundercracker like all those kind of

guys It's funny because if you get the the three

seekers together and then they they stand there

and they just fire their arm cannons at the stuff

So it's really hilarious to watch them and then

Vegatron just fusion canoning the whole thing

and beating it with an energon mace. It's very

tactical, so you have to figure out what side

of their base is the weakest and then attack

from that side because you're going to get hit

either way. But I've been doing pretty well at

it, playing it for the last two weeks and everybody's

been playing it about a month longer than me.

a lot better people. Plus you can create alliances

or join them. And I created my own because I

didn't want to join up with other people. So

kind of dumb on my behalf, but we'll see. Transformers.

Got to catch them all. It seems like that, but

it's not. When I first looked at Earth Wars,

I'm like, oh, it's kind of like those old like

Age of Empire games, like the old Command and

Conquer games where it's that. See, I don't mind.

I don't mind Command and Con. No, I'm not saying

a bad thing about it. I'm just saying that when

I first heard about it, I thought it was more

of a 3D or 2D platformer. And when I saw it,

I'm like, oh, it's like one of those games. OK.

It's been fun, though. Yeah. So yeah, I didn't

know if anybody had any experience playing that

or not. Actually for all the video games I play,

I don't play a whole lot of games on my phone.

I think the last game I played on a cell phone

was Snake. I do on occasion, I will play Hearthstone,

which is the collectible trading card game from

Blizzard. Bit trip beat and Cannibal, but those

are about the only ones I'll play and I if I

do I play them like once and then I'm kind of

done So I'm done for like, you know a week or

two and then I'll maybe I'll go back to them

But I don't know it's I think it's the lack of

buttons. I've never gotten over I can type just

fine do anything else just fine on the phone,

but the lack of buttons for playing games Yeah,

because technically the phone is like, especially

if you have one of those I do hickeys, they're

like, oh well, the buttons are on the screen.

No, that's not the same thing. Now there is one

interesting rumor that popped up, I think it

was in the last two weeks, that Nintendo is supposedly

working on cell phone controllers. Oh, I did

see that. So now I don't know what's going to

make that make them special from any other like

cell phone controller that you can buy other

than it just being like a Nintendo branded controller.

But if they go so far as because they could do

this if they went so far as to make like a like

a controller sleeve that looks like the bottom

of a Game Boy. Mm hmm. Like, yeah, that would

be cool. I mean, other people have done like

a similar thing, but obviously they can't do

like. the Game Boy look because that's Nintendo's.

Yeah. So like obviously they could they could

go really hard into into that nostalgia stuff.

But yeah, since we're talking about mobile games

and everything else like that, I saw a video

earlier. The only complaint about it is it's

not Ryan Reynolds. I saw somebody posted a video

on YouTube about some production company. It's

a spoof. Deadpool versus Candy Crush in real

life. Have you guys seen this? No. Oh my god,

it is hilarious. The only problem with it is

it is not Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Well, it's

a pretty big problem. Yeah. Yep. But it's basically

Deadpool versus the guy from, oh, was it Taj

or Raj or whatever the hell from the first Van

Wilder movie? Taj. Yeah. It's basically Deadpool

versus him. I'll have to send you guys a video,

but that was hilarious. Oh, I know I could probably

set everybody off in here Oh, no what I saw Ghostbusters

Okay, good for you How was it I actually liked

it I don't really have any time in my life to

argue with people that don't like it especially

people that don't like it based off of only seeing

a trailer because those trailers and everything

The trailers they even said were horrible. Whoever

okayed those trailers to go out needs to be fired.

Like seriously, because the movie is so much

better than what those those trailers made it

out to be. And I like Ghostbusters. I love Ghostbusters.

You know, I can watch it all the time. Never

get bored with it. You know, grew up with it.

Loved it. And just in my personal opinion, I

got more Ghostbusters. That's what was put on

screen. That's what I saw last night in front

of me was more Ghostbusters. And that's all I

can really say about it. And I'm happy with that.

I'm looking forward to see what they do, especially

given the post credit scene. So I'm really excited

to see what they do going forward. And I hope

so because apparently the movie is not going

to be able to open up in China. So hopefully

that's weird. Hopefully Sony hedge their bets

and the movie can make enough of a return to

actually get a sequel Despite not being able

to go to China. The reason it can't open in China

is apparently they have Something against ghosts.

Yeah. Well because ghosts and paranormal. It's

all superstitious type of stuff Yeah, don't believe

but they but they come up with stuff didn't they

have like the grudge and weird stuff like that.

That's Japan Okay So different country. Yeah.

So I and so there's a there's a chance like they

haven't put it in front of the board yet. But

there's a chance that it might not be able to

open up in China. It hasn't been officially rejected.

But I'm hoping that, you know, they hedge their

bets because I haven't seen it. But that's why

they're going to that's why Warcraft 2 is still

going ahead, even though everyone all the critics

despise that movie like you're still going to

get a Warcraft 2. It's one of the it's China

saved Pacific Rim 2. like pretty much single

-handedly because it's a monster movie yeah so

more power to them awesome thank you guys um

but i really hope sony hedge their bets on this

one so that they could still move forward with

the franchise um and the other side note too

and i don't say this that often i think this

it may ghostbusters may be the best use of 3d

i've seen outside of my bloody valentine 3d okay

um Because they did this. I was sitting too close

to get the full impact of it. I saw an IMAX and

I sat like three or four rows closer than I usually

would like. If I'd sat in my normal seat, it

probably would have been fine. But they did this

thing where a little inside baseball here. But

the movie is Scope, so it plays in like an extreme

widescreen. But if you watch it in 3D, the movie

is presented to you in flat. So you get black

bars at the top and the bottom of the screen

and the 3D effects break. Those bars like the

movie is not the 3d effects are not contained

within the actual window of the movie So like

stuff actually the 3d actually comes out of the

screen I know that sounds kind of dumb, but that's

the way it's presented. And I think if I'd been

sitting in the right spot, it would have been

something really cool to see. Where I was sitting,

it was almost like I was just too close for it

to have its maximum impact on me. I don't usually

give 3D a ringing endorsement, but it's probably

the best 3D I've seen outside of that. I know

I'm going to get some hate for... Not praising

avatar for 3d, but I think avatar looked horrible

in 3d But But yeah, I I enjoyed it Does it have

a fluid decent story? That's all I let's really

all I care like when the news first came out

about it But it was and I've said this before

when it first came always gonna be all girls.

I was like, okay fine Let me see who they're

gonna be and they're like Okay, well there's

one in there I don't really care for but does

the film have a fluid decent? Narrative I'll

say that it gets from beginning to end without

tripping over itself too much There is there

is a scene There's a scene I think it's gonna

be because they've already said there's an extended

cut of this it's like 15 16 minutes longer and

I think There's a scene in the movie that was

removed and it was put in the credits like it

it plays in the background of the credits. It's

it's not anything like no one's talking or anything

like that. But it's like like the credits are

scrolling and they use the 3D effects. So the

credits are like overlaid on top of it. And behind

behind the credits, there's this scene that's

playing out. Well, that scene was directly cut

from the movie. The only problem is in the movie.

They mentioned you see the beginning of it and

you see the end of it, but you never see that

scene. Right. And I think that the home release

will have that stuff put back in where it's supposed

to be. Why it was omitted from the final thing,

I have no idea. But I think that was the only

thing that kind of stuck out to me was because

you see it, you're like, OK, I kind of see where

this is going to go. And then it doesn't. and

then you hear the you see the there's like a

comment that books and bookends the scene and

then that scene comes back in the credits and

you're like why wasn't that in the movie that

would be fantastic um yeah that kind of reminds

me of the uh what they did with amazing spider

-man yeah i think uh chris hemsworth is a very

funny guy um like he was i think he was funny

like in the first thor And he has his moments

as Thor where he's funny, but I saw him in vacation.

Right. I think he stole that movie. I laughed

harder during his parts than I did the rest of

the movie because he was fantastic at that. And

he plays like the dumb blonde to like a T like

in this role. And I kind of have respect for

actors that play the dumb not so bright. Characters

because that's that's not easy to do and to pull

it off with it being funny and not like tragic

So I liked him I liked all the characters I don't

think anyone was really overplayed too well and

Patty is Done the biggest disservice in the trailers

You mean Leslie Jones character, I think that's

I'm not yeah, it is her okay I know all their

their names are all Saturday Night Live people

Okay. Um, yeah, she was in in the trailer. She's

not. Yeah, those scenes are in the movie, but

there's enough of her not acting that way that.

That they don't, you know, that's not that's

not the way that in the trailer, that's not her.

That's not her entire character is what I'm trying

to say. Yeah, she's kind of like her as a stereotype

in the trailer. And she's actually a full rounded

character in the film. Yeah, she's she's actually

just. You call her like a New York history buff

Like she knows stuff about New York the other

three don't right because they're like it's kind

of like she's she's kind of like She's street

smart and yeah, she's she's a hate to say this

and people are probably gonna kill me in the

comments for saying it She's a combination between

Winston and Ray because Ray did all that historical

stuff in Ghostbusters 2 But I think his was more.

I think his stuff like raised up was more like

the supernatural history of stuff it was her

stuff her stuff is actually just more like i

know i know i know the significance of this like

not like i know like the the paranormal thing

like and i i could give an example but i don't

want to spoil anything in case anyone does want

to see it but the the thing is i saw it And I'm

a fan of the original, and I wanted more Ghostbusters,

and I got more Ghostbusters, and that's all I

can really say about it. And that said, the same

thing I'll say about any remake or reboot that

happens, the old one, nothing's going to happen

to the old one. You still get to have it. There's

no reason to hate on this movie just because.

And I don't know. And the cameos are fun, too.

Like, they're actually really funny. Somebody

said that I think it was Birdman Dodd that said

this. I could be wrong. So sorry, Mike, if I'm

misquoting you. Said something about Bill Murray's

cameo is the longest and the others are just

kind of there. And I basically replied and said,

you know, I hate to say this, but the reason

why Bill's is probably the longest is probably

that's the only way they could get him to do

the damn movie. His is the longest? but at the

same time like his if i think about it his cameo

doesn't really do anything for the movie right

it's just there to be there um everyone else

is like he he's his character is just definitely

there just to be there um he doesn't he does

very little like actually not just thinking about

it it does not it does it does nothing for the

movie um and it not it doesn't take anything

away either but it doesn't do anything for it

like it doesn't add anything to it his involvement

does not move the story forward right um the

other the other two are i think were just well

placed actually there's three more um uh well

placed uh cameos for the fans and there's an

awesome uh i feel like it was an awesome joke

about the firehouse uh that was actually kind

of funny but uh uh we can talk more about it

as like if you guys actually do end up seeing

it or whatever but in my opinion if you like

ghostbusters there's no reason for you not to

like this one uh actually one of the tweets i

saw when people started like seeing the movie

that i i kind of like latched on to is kind of

like my mantra it's like it's it said i didn't

read the review i just read the headline it said

it's um It's okay if you don't like the new Ghostbusters.

It's why you don't like the new Ghostbusters.

That's gonna make you a douchebag So and like

I said before I don't care that it was women

No, just one woman on that cast that I just cannot

stand as an actress. So is it Melissa McCarthy?

Of course. I All the movies I've seen her and

the only one I didn't care for was identity thief

and I don't think that that was her problem her

fault so I like that film. So does Mary. We like

Spy. I haven't seen Spy yet, but I hear good

things about it. It's funny because they take

every Jason Statham movie and use it as a stereotype

for his character in this film. Nice. So he's

constantly poking fun at every character he's

ever played throughout the entire film. He's

like, well, I did this, blah, blah, blah. Melissa

McCarthy has this witty comeback to him every

time because they hate each other in the film.

I did, I will say, I tried to watch Bridesmaids.

My wife and I bought Bridesmaids after we watched

Sisters. We wanted to re -watch Bridesmaids.

Not because of Ghostbusters, but just because.

And we didn't make it through it. I remember

enjoying it when I saw it in the theater. It

could have been like the time of day we were

trying to watch it or any number of different

things that was going on. But we couldn't make

it through it when we were trying to watch it

at home. Yeah, so Ghostbusters I I enjoyed it.

Like I said, I'm not gonna argue with anyone

that you know doesn't like it And I don't want

anyone to come at me saying how can you like

this? How can you like this? I like it because

I have no nostalgic baggage people. I know that

the original one doesn't go anywhere so It's

a DVD you can watch it now. Yeah So I guess the

only other thing I'll bring up we can Take our

pick at the topic, but I'm gonna drop these two

and then we'll see what happens and whatever

one doesn't get picked Then we'll just throw

it to the comments We can either do the the fact

that Matt Damon wants to be in the DC extended

universe as a character and who we think he should

play or I don't know if you guys have seen the

Wally West flash and black racer photos yet.

I've seen the Wally West costume I'm nuts and

want to talk the block black racer Photos I'd

rather talk flash than Matt Damon cuz until he's

cast in something I don't care what character

people think he wants to be I mean until until

Warner Brothers says we have hired Matt Damon

to play this character Then I'll give an opinion.

He's gonna be Robin Everyone a Green Lantern

everyone knows he's gonna be Nightwing. Yeah,

it's gonna be Green Lantern but Someone said

when I shared the flash photo from the flash

official Facebook page Isn't that actually know

what is funny? I think it was Joe I think it

was Joe Reed that said this isn't that kind of

spoiler is this he said is this happened yet?

No, Joe. It hasn't happened yet. It's a season

3 teaser. Oh, okay Because I don't think Joe

has gotten through all of season 2 yet, but with

all of season 2 done And I don't think we saw

any effects on Wally, even though he was affected.

And we pretty much know he's gonna become Kid

Flash, because they showed the costume. I think

the costume looks great on him. Well, it looks

like the reverse flash, just with some flash

deco to it. Well, it's, yeah, it's... It's like

the rebirth. Well, it's a mixture of reverse

flash and kid flash because some of the kid flash

costumes are gold or yellow and red instead of

red and yellow so I don't know if they're gonna

sit there and call him kid flash the whole I

think they're calling him that so far well I'm

saying like I'm hoping by the end of the third

season If the show hopefully the show gets a

fourth season it is so good. I don't see why

I wouldn't get a fourth season Hopefully by the

end of the third season. They just call him another

flash or I don't know I mean kid flash is fine

for a while, but you know everybody's got to

grow up sometime I think what some people again

I've seen the pictures, but I don't think I haven't

read any of the articles revolving around it

But I think a lot of people are forgetting that

the first episode is called flashpoint Which

basically means it's an entirely different universe.

So anything technically technically anything

that has happened in season one and season two

is Don't count off the books right now. Yeah,

so they can do whatever they want with any character

Yeah, and that's also like my as a fan like a

fan of flash and I really enjoyed Supergirl I

like Legends of Tomorrow Arrow still needs to

pick itself up off the floor and figure out what

the hell it wants to do, because I don't know

what it's doing. And I would I really, really

would. But the fan in me, my my ultimate thing

would be if they all four shows took on the mantra

of Flashpoint and all of them did an entire season

where stuff doesn't matter like. everything is

like everything is affected by what what Barry

did and so you get like you just get like a they

get to tell different stories and different things

and but it goes across all of them and it runs

for like so they get out of right yeah and it

goes it goes like the entire season and so people

can it kind of breaks up what happened on like

especially with arrow it breaks up on what happened

through like season three and season four and

so season five ends up being like this like just

refreshing thing like maybe maybe green arrow

isn't like this uh depressed you know oh woe

is me like hero where he's always down all the

time but instead you get like one season where

it's like kind of just fun or something, I don't

know. Like he's Tony Stark playing? Yeah, and

then like, so you get to see these characters

and the actors do something completely against

character and the writers get to have some fun

and it would be really cool to see them do that

across all the shows for like one season. And

then at the very end, of course, then everything

reverses it. Yeah, and then it gets reversed

and then you can go back. But the thing is, you

had that break from... Whatever whatever happened

and obviously there's gonna be impact from him

going good Not everything gets set right in the

first place when he does go back and fix it fixes

it So you can still some things can still remain

I just that that's what the fan in me would really

like to see and and that'll never happen the

thing for me and you brought it up about arrows

season 3 4 and 5 and all the thing for me with

arrow the first two seasons were mostly awesome

For the most part season 3 and I've said this

before a thousand times. It's just god -awful

Batman copycat stuff season 4 I was hopeful But

what happened with season 4 was one week? It

would be a really good episode the next week.

It would be Okay, I can go to the bathroom now

or okay. I can go make dinner now or it's like

I Season four was flip -flopped every week from

being good to just being mediocre and I'm really

hoping Arrow Season five can pick up and be on

the level that Flash and Legends and Supergirl

are How do you think they're gonna I know this

off the topic of discussing what those careless

characters looked But how do you guys think they're

gonna fit Supergirl in after they've already?

They've already shown that she is part of a different

universe. Do you think the flashpoint stuff is

going to? like Role merge her universe. Yeah

merge the two universes together or do you think

that? So earth 1 and earth 2 are merging or not

earth 1 and whatever her earth is Yeah, I forget

which one and I know it's not earth 3 because

that's where they sent Jay Yeah, they've never

said what earth she's on. Yeah. So I'm just I'm

or do they just, you know, screw it and just

she's just a part of that world. Like, do you

think they'll like they'll give a reason? Like,

I don't know. That's one of the things I'm interested

to see is how they handle that, because I like

how they handled the crossover, except it was

so weirdly timed. The episode when when Barry

actually goes there like takes place like. Three

or four weeks after that crossover actually happened.

I know and it was real like Moment like it was

real quick, but that was awesome, but it's it's

so it's but that was also one of the episodes

I was like he says nothing he went to an entirely

different world and he says nothing. Yeah, I

know that It was just so weird. So yeah, it was

weird in the show and I think that I think the

problem was Supergirl started out as at CBS It

was a different production schedule for their

episodes. And plus, Supergirl Season 1, they

had several things happen, like the Paris attacks

happened, so they had to flip -flop episodes

and everything else. And it was just... Oh, I

know. I'm just saying that it's just... A mass

of production stuff. And with the actual story,

yeah, it's like, really? Yeah, you guys are right.

Really, Barry? You're not going to say anything?

Like, I just went where there's like a super,

like, you know, a literal Superman, more or less,

a super girl, superwoman. Like, and nothing gets

said anywhere. So I'm just, I'm really interested

to see what ends up happening with this new season.

Like, but the fan in me, I'm not going to get

what I want to see, but if I do, that's awesome.

I feel like the writers could have a ball with

it, even if they did for half a season. Half

a season. It would be so cool. I just absolutely

love that for the first time In at least maybe

17 years Four days a week we can watch CW and

it's all good programming Supergirl on Monday

flash on Tuesday arrow On Wednesday and then

legends on Thursday At least none of them are

on Friday. So that's a good thing. Yeah one thing

really quickly before we get out of here maybe

we should save this for next time but have you

guys seen I'm sure you guys have seen this story

it came out a little while ago about Sulu and

the Star Trek universe with Star Trek Beyond

with him being gay with yeah With him saying

that Sulu shouldn't be even though they've never

actually said one way or the other and it's a

separate universe Yeah, that that that's my big

thing is why and the thing was all the headlines

I saw about it were oh my god. They made an existing

character gay Okay, fine. I would rather have

an existing character that I know come out of

it and be forced the Cliché gay character thrown

in as someone I don't even know and like Steve

just said The main universe and the Abrams verse

are two different universes. So It's not taking

away from anything that George Takei did as Sulu

being yeah, cuz this is a different Sulu So yeah

exactly and I think it's fine. I just I Don't

know it just it's just one of those strange things

I guess I'm just gonna default to my normal stance

whenever I hear about Like a gay character or

whatever is why is it news? Yeah, I just Because

I just don't I just don't care. Yes, plus he's

gay So it doesn't really bother me either see

originally I thought because it was a like like

a separate universe I thought it was a nice It

was a nice homage to his personal life. Honestly,

I Don't know. Yeah, I mean Hey And with that,

is there anything you guys want to promote for

the next week before we go? Mike, you got anything

going on besides moving? No, I'm going to be

moving. I might have some stuff, because like

I said, I'm going to have to fill my time, like

my evenings with something. So I might have some

stuff to share. I'll definitely be gushing about

my internet, hopefully. But that's about it.

Oh. I will. I don't forgive me, Mike. I don't

know if I saw you post something about it or

if you've seen it or if you got it or not, because

I know you do digital downloads sometimes, but

I will. I am getting the extended edition of

Batman V Superman on Tuesday, so I will be checking

that out. So I've heard good things about it.

So. But I didn't hate the movie to begin with.

I mean, I didn't. This is a discussion for another

day. We've talked about this for three years.

I didn't hate the movie I just didn't like certain

aspects of it between the story and the acting

and all that we can talk about that next But

for me I have just wrapped up, and Michael Wilson

and I have decided to do it a little bit more

sporadically than all 104 days at once. I just

wrapped up a 26 -day episode -long podcast, the

first season of our Phineas and Ferb review show,

the podcast organization with article acronyms,

so I'm doing that. The pull bag is still going

on. We've got some stuff coming up with Tooncast

Beyond. Legends of the Dark Knight is gonna be

making a return with us killing the joke. So

there's gonna be that going on Next week Steve

and I will have a lounge episode on geek cast

radio talking about flash season 1 and arrow

season 3 Soundtrack scores so that's going on

What else you got going on Steve? Of course more

altered gaming I plan on doing a couple more

altered geek videos Probably gonna do the alter

geek news network I'm gonna move that over to

my YouTube channel so that I can do them and

kind of a blitz style like five to eight minute

show So expect that to move over there and then

Yeah, I'm gonna be doing more of the video stuff

alongside the alter geek podcast. So Just look

for that So Until next time, get altered, get

geeky with the Altered Geeks. We gotta go. We

got up and left. And, you know, we came back

after we got Pikachu, but everyone's like, what,

man, you gotta go get a Pikachu across the street?

And we're like, yeah. I got a level 10 Pikachu.

Christy was looking at like 140 or 150, and she

could not catch it, and it ran away. She was

pretty, she was pissed. Okay, here's the thing

with that game. Yeah. All the negative story,

not the hoaxes, not the shit that people have

made up to create negative buzz about the game,

but just all the negative stuff that I've seen

come up out of this game being, this game hasn't

even been out a week, and there have just been

the craziest damn things with it, and I just

can't get on board with it. Have you looked outside?

There's like, no, I mean, I went to the park.

There were hundreds of people wandering around

the park staring at their phones because the

park is set up the the way it works is Places

where people should go to go for walks, right

are heavily populated with these pokestops and

each pokestop gives you free stuff right so so

like we're walking around this this walking around

the lake at the park and Situated around the

lake at several spots are these pokestops. There's

like seven of them We went to downtown Crown

Point, which is a little you know, it's a little

place. They've got nightclubs. They've got Historical

places they've got a lot of antique stores, you

know, it's a quaint little town type thing, right?

right in the heart of Indiana and They're literally

about two dozen pokey stops. There's like two

on every corner Yeah, and we just drove around

in a circle two or three times getting all the

pokey stops I got so many pokey stops. I filled

up my backpack I can't have pokestops anymore.

I'm like alright, that's cool. So my problem

with the game is... I don't have a problem with

people getting outside and getting exercise and

all that stuff, but some of the things that it's

led to, like the 19 year old girl who found the

dead body, don't get me wrong, that's great for

that person's family that their body was found,

but still... I mean, she said in the article

that I read, she was quoted in the article as

saying, I was only paying attention to my phone

and where I was walking, and then basically,

oh hey, a dead body. And I just saw, if you go

on my Facebook, scrolled halfway down, because

I just posted this tonight, somebody did a imager

or whatever the hell, Instagram, whatever the

hell it is, of a newspaper article that some

woman wrote about. Strange men approaching her

trying to come on to her through Pokemon go and

I'm like This game is the most evilest thing

ever. It's just oh God, I just can't I'm trying

to get the hashtag hashtag stop Pokemon go to

trend. I don't think it's working I've read like

there there's like bad guys who put lures. So

you have these Pokestops and you can put a lure

on a Pokestop which attracts Pokemon to the stop,

right? But when you put a lure on it, then everybody

benefits because everybody gets the extra Pokemon.

Well, the problem is, is that there are bad guys

who will go to a Pokestop, place a lure and just

wait for kids to show up and then steal their

phones and run away. Well, there's a few images

now rolling around Facebook and Twitter and whatever

else. The first one I saw was of a red van with

a spray painted of, best way to kidnap a 28 -year

-old Pokemon inside. There's another one. Actually,

somebody commented on some, and the sad thing

is, I've been very negative about the game. I'm

trying my best not to be, but at the same time,

I just can't help it because I keep seeing negative

shit about it apparently flint and dilly had

something to do with the game apparently he worked

on the game or so I don't know yeah because every

now and then I see flint post stuff about oh

hey New York Times picked it up or this picked

it up that you know whatever PR and I don't want

to piss off the guy who killed Optimus Prime

but at the same time I'm sorry that game is just

yeah It's um Don't get me wrong. I know there

are a lot of stupid people in the world But it

just seems like this game is making them act

more stupid than they normally would yeah, you

know I I walk around the neighborhood I shouldn't

say the neighbor. I walk around campus Because

there's like five pokey stops immediately around

my building And today I walked pretty much all

the way around the law school and and I hit like

three pokestops and I got a couple Pokemon and

By the time I got back. I was like, wow, I'm

really worn out. How long was I walking? I was

out for an hour Yeah, and that's and that's great

if you're okay, so that's you yeah, you're like

you're I know but here's the deal though I'm

two blocks away from the ghetto at this point.

I keep my head on a swivel When somebody passes

me that looks sketchy I look behind me to make

sure they're not turning around you know I have

to stop I back off the sidewalk and keep my back

to the wall You know just so that I keep my eyes

open just so that people aren't gonna sneak up

on me and try to rob me You've got to be careful

at the same time. Right, exactly. But you're

a 30 -something, 40 -something -year -old man

who is married, has two children, has a lot to

live for, and you're not a dumbass 19 -year -old

anymore. Well, honestly, if the dumbass 19 -year

-olds had had the same training that I've had,

as far as keeping your eyes ... I don't want

to get into it, but ... One of the things we

teach at the dojo is escape arts. And the first

part of escaping is don't get in the situation

you have to escape from. Keep your eyes open.

Learn how to spot bad guys. Learn how to spot

people who are giving you the eye, like sizing

you up to see if they can turn around and punch

you in the back of the head. Yeah, absolutely.

Here's the here's my post that I shared. But

yeah, no, yeah, you're right. You have to pay

attention. You always have to shut up. You know,

it's funny, though. I I feel bad about this post

because I. You know what? I'm trying to read

it now. So basically, I was I walked up to a

gym, pokey gym, right? And I was going to battle

there and I walked up to there was a girl standing.

pretty much it was like this it's like this huge

fountain right and and the the pokey on the map

the pokey gym is right there on top of the fountain

and i walked up to the phone it was a girl there

she was staring at her phone hanging out and

she was really cute i was like and i walked up

probably about five feet away staring at my phone

she looked up at me i looked up at her i smiled

she smiled i looked back down at my phone and

i'm thinking well she's here to do the same thing

i'm doing Mm -hmm. There's no one else around

here. There's absolutely no reason to stand here

The building that the fountain was next to was

closed up and you really couldn't get in there

unless you had a key Or a key card that would

let you in and my key card didn't let me in which

I found out the hard way Apparently I'm not supposed

to be in the law school. So my doesn't work at

the law school, but we're You know, so me and

this girl is just hanging out, but I wasn't like,

oh, hey, how's it going? You know Yeah, you're

not talking to her. It's like two people standing

at a bus stop. You're cordial. You say, oh, hi,

that kind of stuff. But then you just sit there

and wait for a bus to come. But I just can't

get past some of the negativity, which just Oh

god some of the negative stories that it just

the only thing negative here is this girl geez

she's just like Immediately a sit while this

guy who asked her phone number that that's pretty

straightforward But it's like, you know, some

people are you know, I we were at the park at

Centennial Park and like Two people walked up

to me and said, oh, have you found the Pikachu?

And we're like, no, where is it? Well, he's over

there. Well, heck yeah. So we had it over there.

It's like people who just... There are hundreds

of people wandering around all doing the same

thing. We all know what we're doing. We can see

you're here basically because there's the Pokestop.

And there were a lot of people there who didn't

look like they'd seen the sun in a long time.

And you know kind of stumbling along like these

are what my legs are for holy crap, you know,

they finally get out of their chair and And they're

you know, they you know, it's like normally I'd

probably you know cross the street to avoid him

because they look pretty haggard But at the same

time it's not like I'm mean to them if they were

to come up people Hey, you know if you find that

Pikachu. Oh, no, where is it? You know, I'm I'm

not going to be like, ewww, you know? I resisted

the temptation to add that a Pokemon was probably

not the only thing I'd catch if I went with him.

I'm like, that's just, that's just rude. Are

you going to get cooties because you're being

nice to somebody? Jesus. No, no, no. Okay. Like

obviously if, if there are a group of people

in one place that are all using their phones

since this game has come out. You know, that's

fine to start up chit chat, but stuff like the

article I showed you where the guy is just kinda

like staring over her shoulder, it's like that

kinda crap is probably gonna be everywhere because

that's just how some stupid people are. And it

just kinda sickens me because it's one of those

things where it's basically giving so much bad

negative press to the game. I wouldn't call this

negative for us. I mean the fact is is she's

she's playing the game and She's wandered across

at least five of the people who are also playing

the game, you know, just in her I mean honestly

If you're playing Tetris, how often have you

wandered around and found ten of the people playing

Tetris? Back in 1990 any game. I'm just saying

yeah. Yeah. No, I know let's say Angry Birds

you're playing Angry Birds on your phone and

you walk to the bus stop, how many people do

you see going to the bus stop playing Angry Birds?

Yeah, but Angry Birds is something that's, it

isn't this augmented reality game like Pokemon

Go is. It isn't like, you know, point, click,

shoot, capture. And then I asked, I called up

one of the local radio stations here and I asked

them, I said, so outside of the whole gotta catch

them all crap. You actually do stuff with these

things and like oh, yeah, you have battles you

so they're basically trying to make the cartoon

a reality Essentially is what Pokemon go is trying

to do yeah, they've got these pokey gyms, and

yeah battle people at the pokey gym Yeah, Pokemon

should have stayed a cartoon in my personal opinion.

I think it's neat I I like it. I haven't quite

gotten the whole you know pokey battle thing

yet, but No, they you know, you know, like is

it name tests calm and was it meow or whatever?

various online quizzes saw one What kind of Pokemon

are you and I'm like, it's just one of these

damn online quizzes and I just told me I was

a squirtle Squirtle that's what it said. Yeah

like no Hashtag stop Pokemon Go.
