Altered Geek
How Much TV Is Too Much?

About this Episode
You are tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered
Geek Unlimited. Hello and welcome to Altered
Geek Unlimited. I'm your host Steve Megatron
Phillips and in this episode I'll be flying solo
and it probably won't be as long as a regular
episode. only for the fact that in lieu of recording
this with my regular compatriots, unfortunately,
Mike the Birdman Dodd's mother passed away this
week, so he's gonna be on a temporary hiatus
for the next two weeks. So be sure to wish condolences
to at Birdman Dodd. So that's the first part
of unfortunate news. the on the upside Not that
that can be covered up by anything because that's
like I said, it's I definitely feel for Mike
there But we have our top 50 video game franchise
countdown and this is going to be an experiment
and kind of fun Thank you to movie revolt Dan
for compiling the list for me I'm still learning
how they work the process in the spreadsheets,
and it's very neat how it all breaks down. It's
definitely not what I expected. I will say this,
and I'll preface this again in the top 50, so
I'm sorry if it's a repeat, but whatever doesn't
place in the top 50 countdown, I will take listener
comments after we finish the 50 countdown on
AlteredGeek as a way to more or less kind of
tell where a certain game franchise ranked if
it didn't happen to hit that top 50. That way
everybody kind of gets an idea of what went down
or where their favorite franchise, game franchise
ranked. So I'm really looking forward to seeing
how this plays out, because it's the first Top
50 that we've ever done, so I'm really, it's
been an extreme experiment for me, and I've had
a lot of fun messing with it. So yeah, there's
that, and other than that, this week I've, in
school, managed to, as a part of the process,
anyhow, of the media entrepreneurship class,
we had to figure out if we wanted to take the
leap into creating our own company. I took that
leap. And yes, you might argue that, yes, Geekcast
Radio is a company or Altered Geek Entertainment.
I've had this other one that I've been messing
with for, I don't know, the better part of a
decade, but it's kind of come and gone. called
SCP -21 Studios, which is just like my Twitter
handle, at SCP -21. And I used to use it for
a lot of things, like when I'd make mock cards
for my wife, or I'd make little graphics or something,
or I'd sell services, I would use the SCP -21
Studios handle. And so... I had the option to
finally turn this into a real thing and so in
doing so I've made it legit. So like GeekCast
Radio and AlterGeek are technically umbrellas
of that. As well as because I do filmmaking,
I do screenwriting, I do voiceover, I do graphic
design, website design. All of these are little
services that I'll have as like branches underneath.
the SCP -21 studios, and I don't mean to make
this a giant advertisement, and I'm sorry if
it comes off that way, it's kind of, it's been
fun figuring this stuff out, and honestly I would
love to be able to turn my screenplay that I
created for my screenwriting class into an actual
television show pilot, and in this class we actually
get to put together a budget and figure that
out. I'm just going to use that as my basis,
so it's going to be interesting. I've had a lot
of fun with this media degree. Some classes more
than others. A lot of the hands -on stuff I had
more fun with. I find that the schooling... Well,
I don't necessarily agree that everyone should
have to have a degree. I do find it interesting
that as you go to take this degree to try and
make your life better... It puts a lot more emphasis
on your knowledge and your understanding of things
and how things work and in Even in filmmaking
like I've like television and filmmaking. I'm
not as critical on shows as much anymore as a
fanboy But more on the Analytical like story
side visual side audio side because I've gotten
this enlightenment from schooling So it's it's
definitely been an eye -opener and definitely
been fun over the past Past Three years so that
being said I would like to thank our sponsor
of Loot Crate. Yes they have For those that don't
know it's a like a geek geeky box of sorts that
you get to get $40 or $50 worth of stuff for
$19 .99. And with doing that, they have different
themes every month. And this month's theme is
power. And so it covers the big summer blockbusters,
the power of them. So like Marvel, Dragon Ball
Z, Warcraft. So you get the onslaught of bigger
summer blockbusters making May the perfect time
to celebrate pop culture's unstoppable, unrelenting,
unbeatable characters and objects. So yeah, their
theme is power. And it's a monthly subscription
box service for epic geek and gamer items and
pop culture gear for less than $20 a month. You
have until the 19th, which is today. Actually,
that box is over with as of this recording. But
they have other boxes that will be available
that one is over But you can sign up by going
to lootcrate .com GCRN and entering coupon code
TBV to save three dollars on any new subscription
So that being said I'm gonna move it on to the
next section which is the alter geek news network
You're listening to the alter geek news network
So first up on the Altered Geek News Network
this week. Well, we have a little bit of interesting
information DC Comics Has changed their logo
yet again The last time we went through a change
in their logo was in 2012 and I actually published
an article on it on geekcastradio .com So be
sure to look for it there as well Kind of explaining
the differences and kind of the way this new
logo harkens it's blue and it's got kind of a
retro DC kind of vibe to the text with a blue
circle surrounding it and it's just it's really
really really really plain compared to the 2012
rendition that they just had. And the interesting
part about this new logo is that It kind of calls
back to the 1970s in a lot of ways The only differences
in logo pretty much over the last you know 80
years that almost 80 years that DC Comics has
been around Has been the 1970 and the 2012 version
all of the rest of them have had some sort of
a variation of the same logo like the 1940s pretty
much are all the same logo, the 1970s are pretty
much the same logo, 2005 was a little bit different,
1970 was different, and 2012 was different. The
2016 is very much reminiscent of the 1972, very
plain, other than the fact that the 1972 was
red. So I'm almost wondering, because like, it's
still like the DC within a circle thing, and
they've always had that, until the 2012 and of
course the 1970. My favorite my personal favorite
is the 2005 edition. I just really love that
and I love the 1970s through to 2004 version
because that was the one I grew up with in the
90s So to me, I Enjoyed those the best. However,
this 2016 one it's going for very plain very
kind of you know Uniform look and they're saying
with DC being this all -encompassing company
They, and with their rebirth and their restructuring
and how everything is going down now, they want
something that's kind of this one emblem. Whereas
their 2012 says DC Comics in it, and a lot of
the other ones say publication or comics. Well,
they're an entertainment company. They have entertainment,
they have television, they have comics, they
have movies. I mean, they're almost like a Marvel
Studios in essence. But with DC so in doing this
they've kind of gotten themselves out of that
pigeonhole you know they have to be only comics
and honestly, I I kind of get it. It's they're
giving themselves a facelift which they desperately
need and if they're going back to like telling
good stories and and having good quality and
I'm hoping for coherency and everything and like
really well writing across the board and that
comes into the play with the Jeff Johns is now
being put with the head of the DC Universe extended
universe for the the films he's now the like
the second like he's kind of like partnered with
another guy but they're their heads of this universe
now so I think that with that happening with
this whole shakeup with DC and their new logo
and all the rebirth and everything I think they're
going for a new direction, and I'm hoping that
they sidestep, and I know Snyder's not going
away, and I don't blame it fully on Snyder. I
blame it on the writing of the film itself, of
Batman v Superman, and I don't mean to keep harkening
back to that film, but it was fun, it was entertaining,
but it was not a well -written film. The only
things I found to be particularly good with that
film were when we had Alfred and Bruce Wayne,
or Batman, You know or Wonder Woman when those
those three combined into scenes and in any point
they were They were well written, but you got
into anything else in the film, and it was like
Why or or things just didn't make sense or weren't
very coherent so again, I I don't want to hate
on the film because I again I like the premise
of it But the execution wasn't very good So I'm
hoping with Jeff Johns leading it up. I'm hoping
that it takes off in a better direction so moving
to the next bit of The scene is I guess you could
say There's now an article saying that with Supergirl
turning to the CW We have flash arrow Supergirl
legends of tomorrow mega crossover coming So
they're gonna merge for the biggest ever crossover
event So I'm wondering what that's gonna take
place because in arrow and I'm so and this is
gonna be a quick spoiler for the next minute
Arrow they're having a nuke drop, you know in
Damien dark and all this world -ending stuff
Legends of tomorrow you have again Vandal Savage
and let world -ending scenarios you have flash
What looks like the earth being split in two
in one of Cisco's dreams or vibes and then Supergirl
you have like another Kryptonian drop so like
I'm wondering if they're gonna do crisis on infinite
earths and because Berlanti's been wanting to
do something like that and they're gonna kind
of mix all of it together and collide universes
But uh they're It's hard to see what they're
gonna do with it and how they're gonna combine
them or what capacity Supergirl because technically
she's in another universe, so I'm wondering if
somehow Earth one goes away, and they go to Earth
three or something like I don't really know like
or Earth You know I'm wondering how this capacity
is gonna play out because then you're dealing
with you'll have to have Martian Manhunter crossover,
then you'll have to have At some point they're
gonna have to cast somebody as Superman. I don't
care if they get Tom Welling to come back as,
you know, Smallville Superman and actually have
him in the costume. To me that would be the most
logical choice. Because then it would be kind
of, but at the same time it would kind of ruin
it because they'd be combining Smallville. And
they've already had a green arrow and they've
already had, you know, Hawkman and so on. So,
I don't know, it could get really weird. I'm
kind of... kind of torn there, but they need
to cast somebody who's Superman and stop beating
around the bush with it. It's getting annoying.
And as far as the CW head, he confirmed that
all four Greg Berlanti produced DC series will
join up for one big story. And it's going to
be the biggest one ever, they're calling it.
It's going to come like December -ish, is what
they're saying. So I will be really stoked to
see when this plays out. How they all intertwine
for their kind of mini Justice League. Almost
kind of like the 90s one without having the hookiness.
But it says Petowitz also said he felt Supergirl
should have been a CW series from the start.
The fact it's now moved to the CW which should
have been in the first place, I don't think it
will have a big impact on the tone. So... Yeah,
it's kind of got the same CW tone to it, other
than the fact it's a little bit brighter almost,
because CW has that kind of look to it. More
polished, I guess. Or, I don't know, in some
ways it was lighter. I don't know, it'll fit
really well anyway with the CW, so I'm really
glad with this. And kind of moving on a little
bit, we have DC Comics Powerless. which they've
dropped the trailer for. It's their office -based
comedy. I haven't watched the trailer yet. I
don't want to watch it while I'm in the middle
of this. I will watch it later on. I have my
reservations about it. Will I give it a shot?
Probably. Will I end up watching it? More than
likely not. And I'll kind of get into that later
in the episode as far as why not. So that that
being said moving on We have a lethal weapon
trailer that dropped Which I think looks spectacular
because you have Damon Wayans playing Rigs and
I get those two mixed up all the time. There's
Blanchard when I need them But uh Yeah, the trailer
looks spectacular anyway Okay, Riggs is okay.
That was that was the little Gibson character,
so it's Murtaugh so they have David Wayne playing
Murtaugh in The lethal weapon trailer looks spectacular.
I I'm so stoked for that That's one. I'll probably
check out. I'll probably watch a little bit of
it. I'm hoping it's good It's probably be when
I binge watch though later on like I'll save
them up, and then I'll binge watch it because
I Love the lethal weapon movie so to me doing
that and kind of recasting everybody is kind
of a win -win And I love Damon Wayans anyway
and stuff that he's in he's usually pretty blasted
funny And then getting out of the other trailer
that's really been on my mind is prison break
the event Series of prison break that they're
gonna have for season 5 which takes place You
know five years later after we have Michael Schofield
supposedly dying at the end of the series after
their film where they break certain 10 credit
out of jail You will see Michael jr. In it which
they showed at the grave But uh, yeah, it's it's
um It's it's been One of those series that I
think were really well written and this trailer
looks to be the same exception because It's produced
acted You know directed written all that stuff
by the same group that did this actual series
back in the early You know early to mid -2000s
So I'm super stoked for that. I really want to
see that movie or not movie TV series Sorry,
I'm getting a lot of my plate right now So That's
another one like I said that I'm going to watch
regardless because I'm a fan of the original
and I watched it a couple times on Netflix, binge
watched. Getting into the other television trailer
that or teaser that dropped and I have mixed
reservations on this and I'll have to bring it
up again in a couple weeks with Birdman when
he comes back. It's the new Star Trek series
that's coming January 2017 to CBS All Access.
They have a logo that dropped, an image. They
have Like a little teaser and it says new heroes
new worlds new villains, you know new civilizations
or something like that and it's Okay, they're
teasing it. I get it. It looks very CW ask in
their CG and when I say that I mean it looks
very It looks polished to the point it's fake
And I say that and I realize that the other Star
Trek series were not real by any Regards or real
some of it was more realistic than others some
of it was more practical It I don't know the
the practical effects they used to do some of
the special effects Seemed to just look better.
I don't I don't I don't know I think it was but
again. It was a product of its time It was the
2000s or early 2000s late 90s that kind of thing
so again. I'm kind of torn But it's got that
shiny logo. It's got a weird thing that they
did like a split to the insignia Which I find
kind of strange But I personally hope with it
being in this set If it's supposed to be in the
TOS the original series film universe kind of
between Star Trek 6 or Star Trek 7 where you
know Kirk's eaten by the Nexus and then they
go to before TNG somewhere in there if it's in
that range, I'm hoping that again they have those
military uniforms which Nicholas Meyer was a
big instrumental person in getting those in place
because he was saying that it should be more
military. So it's kind of fitting that he's a
part of the producing staff for this and Brian
Fuller who was on Voyager and Enterprise and
I think some of DS9 maybe. Again I'm hoping that
they bring Q in for like a fun little nod because
He's timeless, technically. I know the guy ages.
I know John Delancey ages, but I think it would
be fun to have him show up regardless. It would
be cool to see Hikaru Sulu, you know, say that
it's like 30 years from the time he's captain
of the Excelsior. He would fit well with his
actual age in real life to have him show back
up or Nichelle Nichols or Walter Cohen. But...
And Shatner would be kind of fun to throw back
in there just as a throwback or something or
like they encounter him or something or a clone
or I Don't know something just it would be fun
to see him in there because it's the 50th anniversary
and I know he's not gonna be in the new film
But I doubt it. It would be kind of cool to see
data, you know Show up or dr. New newly and sing
Would be kind of cool to see you show up because
of you know, the time period that it's in But
again, who knows? I've got a lot of hope for
the show. I'm not gonna boo it right away until
after I actually watch it and give my opinion.
And again, you can't watch the pilot and expect
to get everything from the pilot. You have to
almost watch the pilot the first three episodes
after to kind of get the gist of what the series
is gonna be about. And that's with any show.
I've got this strict policy where... I kind of
go until the mid -season break, and if I still
care after the mid -season break, I'll go back
and watch it the rest of the way. But if it's
really bad up until that mid -season, I don't
have a problem dropping it, although most of
the time I get hooked and I watch them anyway.
Who am I kidding? I'm going to watch it. It's
cool. Getting into some fun movie stuff, we have
Robert Downey Jr. getting back to Sherlock Holmes
about time. producer Joel Silver confirms filming
may start this fall and teases more sequels which
honestly I kind of like that because I really
like Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock
Holmes and Watson in that series and I really
enjoyed the game of shadows a lot as well so
I'm really looking forward to this they're saying
though that And it's crazy it's been five years
since the last one 2011 they had a game of shadows
But uh the funny part is they got to get all
the schedules to line up but uh they're saying
that Iron Man 3 co -writer Drew Pierce was on
the case in 2011 but uh Then they had nothing
until now But during the press tour for Civil
War, Downey Jr. revealed that he's been talking
to Guy Ricci and Sherlock Holmes should start
filming this year, which I'm hopeful for because
again, I like the Sherlock Holmes films. I haven't
given Sherlock on the BBC any kind of love. I'm
not a Benedict Cumberbatch fan, so I have a hard
time watching anything with him in it. It's it's
just because I've it's been shoved on my throat
over the last few years And I I don't particularly
and this is not a knock against British people
I just I have a hard time watching anything where
like they're genuinely British people Unless
it's like The Hobbit or something like I just
and it depends on the character too Like I or
the actor like I'm very in tune with like certain
actors that I will watch because it's a certain
actor over Another so which isn't necessarily
right, but that's kind of how I do things I'm
kind of curious if you guys do that to like kind
of gauge based on an actor or a director or something
like that But uh So kind of moving on a little
bit more Bryan Singer suggested instead of recasting
Wolverine Which everybody's kind of hoping they
never recast Wolverine at least until it's been
decades Kind of like Robert Downey jr. Playing
Iron Man. I hope they don't re -cast. But they're
talking about having Axe 23 replace Wolverine
in the Axemen movies, which would be the only
logical thing that makes sense so you can have
a younger version of the character and still
have Wolverine's presence. So I'm deeply happy
on that concept there. I would definitely be
cool with that. Kind of moving on a little bit
I Heard rumblings that there's gonna be a Harley
Quinn spinoff movie, which I'm not necessarily
like for but I'm not necessarily against I Don't
what are you guys thoughts? I'm like having all
these random spinoff movies of kind of like full
-on films like Like Suicide Squad having a spinoff
with like, you know dead shot or having a spinoff
like Because they're doing it with Star Wars
right now. We're getting it with Han Solo. We're
going to get probably an Obi -Wan movie. They're
just biding their time. You know they're going
to do an Obi -Wan movie. It's just a matter of
figuring out when. They're going to gauge interest
is what they're doing right now. So yeah, I'm
kind of curious on how you would think about
that. Another fun thing that popped up is Transformers
5. Casting Josh Jamal and Tyrus Gibson will be
possibly returning And it's called the last night
which I'm kind of confused on where they're going
with transformers now plus the font looks horrid
And I have no idea where this is going I honestly
I've signed off mentally and To all capacities
of the transformer films they're garbage to me
like yeah, they're they were fun to begin with
but now I'm just to the point I don't want to
watch them anymore So I won't I May change my
tune when it comes out, but I'm not gonna pay
to see in the theater I'll wait till it hits
Netflix or something But I just I don't know
man. I'm so I wish that they would just get More
realistic transformers. I mean, I know they've
made them kind of realistic, but I wish they'd
give them some kind of the Some of the aesthetics
like they have in the IDW comics now I mean you
can see their gears and their pistons and some
of the mechanical parts of them But they look
like their 80s counterpart just modernized That's
what I was hoping for with transformers and hoping
with story and honestly, I'm kind of hoping that
because they're working from a think tank now
instead of just a set writer, that these films
are coherent and that they can rebound from the
crap shoot of two and four, but only time will
tell. And to get something that I actually like
out of the way, we have Batman Return to Arkham
announcement trailer, and they're remastering
the acclaimed games of Arkham Asylum and Arkham
City. And it comes with all the DLC and all the
stuff that comes with it. So if you're on the
Xbox or the Xbox One or the PS4, those will be
available soon, which that's spectacular. So
you'll be able to play in HD. The Arkham universe,
as it were, in full glory from start to finish
on the new console, which is a good concept.
I wish I had the new console so I could play
some of these new games, but it kind of sucks
I don't, because I will probably never play Arkham
Knight. Seeing that they never had it come out
for the PC with all the stuff. So... Getting
into some other gaming, we have Battlefield World
War 1 pitch was originally rejected by the EA
boss, which I find hilarious. So if they didn't
go with this World War 1 pitch... Provided it
still hasn't come out yet, so it could still
bomb If they don't do it right like we talked
about a couple weeks ago it it will bomb for
sure Right off the get -go, but I hope it doesn't
because I'm really a fan of the battlefield franchise
But uh yeah, they originally rejected the idea
and wanted to go into the direction that Call
of Duty is going But eventually they went with
the battlefield world war one pitch which Was
pretty much a slam dunk as far as the trailers
are concerned and the announcements concerned
Across the board because everybody was sick of
that modern and futuristic warfare because like
I said I'll play on real tournament if I want
futuristic I I won't play cod or battlefield
for that but I I think it's funny that it just
takes one suggestion and a possible misstep to
throw an entire universe of games in the up -and
-up or the toilet. So yeah, that rounds out the
AGNN, so with that we'll be back after this commercial

Radio, iTunes, So getting into my my kind of
thought process topic of the day I I've had this
thing that's been kind of eating at me For a
little bit and I haven't really known how I wanted
to tackle it but uh What I'm kind of getting
at here is how much is too much and When I say
that I mean I watch or did watch 17 different
television shows in a week I think it might have
even been closer to 20 at one point But like
how do you gauge how many shows are too many
shows like where's where's that that cutoff point?
Because, like, I myself enjoy television. But,
like, where does it become a total addiction?
So, I'm kind of torn. Because, like, I can list,
and I have a lot of shows I watch, I can list
all of my shows I have that I watch, and I get
to this point where it's... gambling time to
see which ones I Watch from week to week like
I used to watch like continuum, but that's over
used to watch heroes were born. That's over I
watched agent Carter. That's over And and then
I've got a multitude of other shows like I watch
arrow I watched girl meets world when it was
there a new one Gotham, Impractical Jokers, Last
Man Standing, Agents of S .H .I .E .L .D., Once
Upon a Time, Saturday Night Live, Shark Tank,
Star Wars Rebels, TMNT, Supernatural, Big Bang
Theory, Blacklist Flash, Whose Line Is It Anyway,
iZombie, and... Can't help but think that there
was Supergirl. I can't help but think that there
were some other shows that I'm missing. But like
I was watching almost 20 shows a week So I wasn't
really my head was always in the shows and I
was having a hard time like concentrating on
things So like I'm kind of wondering where you
draw the line and how many shows you watch or
whether you binge watch them all at once You
know to kind of get them all done instead of
having to go week to week and and sitting there
stuffing your brain with you know 20 hours of
content a week or you know Or if you just you
know don't watch them at all. I've already dropped
Agents of Shield. I know it's gotten better.
I just dropped it anyway. I dropped Once Upon
a Time. Saturday Night Live, I've come to the
conclusion I'm only going to watch if it's a
host I want to watch. Who's Line is in any way,
I kind of quit watching because they had too
many CW guests or people just show up randomly
for like a skit or two so it was ruining the
show to me so I quit watching it. I zombie I'm
on the fence because it got really good that
last episode but I don't know if I want to keep
watching with the amount of shows I watch Shark
Tank I quit watching a while ago my wife still
watches it I'm done TMNT is one of those ones
I'll watch but it's not on my like have to watch
list Last Man Standing I like to watch Impractical
Joker Supergirl Gotham Arrow Flash Blacklist
is kind of on that iffy side for me. Like, I
really like James Spader, but I'm not sure how
much I'm going to keep watching once Star Trek
and Lethal Weapon Start of some of these shows
that I've kind of got on my if -list. But, like,
I don't know. Like I said, I watch some of these
shows. It gets so hard to keep track of them
anymore. And I have this photographic memory,
I can't remember what time I'm supposed to be
somewhere, how to get somewhere sometimes, what
my wife told me 20 minutes ago. But I can remember
everything that happened in a season, or for
Supernatural's instance, the 11 seasons the show's
been on, almost 12. Especially with the thing
of Chuck being God on the show, it took five
years for me to get the payoff for it, but I
knew it was coming. And one of those weird predictions,
but it happened so like again. It's it's It's
weird. I've consumed my life with this stuff.
So like I'm trying to cut back and kind of enjoy
Family time or trying to use technology trying
to use you know different things to kind of open
up my mind so just always watching television
and So I was kind of wondering how you guys cope
with with all the shows or things that you're
interested in you know I I watch movies here
and there anymore, but it has to be one I'm really
interested in, like Star Wars I saw, Deadpool
I saw, Batman V Superman I saw, Civil War I saw.
So like, certain big ones I've watched, I will
eventually catch some of the smaller ones, I
just, I haven't, but again, I'm just kind of
curious how you guys kind of do it with shows
that are out. So and another thing on my kind
of altered opinions here and soapbox One of the
guys that that has runs a local comic con and
local comic publication. That's free to Flint,
Michigan Called Flint comics He said and he posted
this thing it was an article Saying a kick a
Afro burikua superhero comic will debut this
fall It's a New York born You know superheroes
enrolled at like Columbia University looks pretty
cool like it's got kind of a Captain America
Supergirl power girl kind of vibe and You know
an African American girl looks pretty cool actually,
but You know his statement when he posted this
article says if your superhero icons do not fit
your needs or voice Then create better icons
So tired of reboots when what this industry needs
are fresh creations. And I can see where this
could be a double -edged sword. Everybody kind
of knows my stance on it. I'm kind of pro create
your own instead of altering and rebooting stuff
that's already been out. And again, I realize
not everything that's out right now hasn't been
rebooted at some point and that whatever version
I'm clutching to might be some version that is
that way. So, like, with creating your own superheroes,
like, I kind of get it where people are wanting
one that's established to kind of fit their likeness
and whatnot and their lifestyle, because, like,
I don't... Yes, I enjoy Batman, and I love Batman,
and I love Flash, and I love all these guys.
I don't feel like any one of them actually fits
my personal personality and lifestyle and everything
like that. So, like, I... When I had the opportunity
in that pop culture class, I created my own.
And it was based off of me. So I just over -exaggerated
his life, or my life, into that. And created
this superhero that I liked, and I created the
costume, and I created all this. With tech, and
the healing factor, and some of the other cool
stuff that I like. But he's got very much like
a Batman Flash -esque kind of thing to him, but
he's got the healing factor of Wolverine, so...
It's to me that was what I wanted in a character,
but I also wanted him so that he was geeky He
was a podcaster. He's you know he owns an entertainment
company. He's you know He's one of the geeks
I mean, but he's you know the higher profile
kind of like you know you'd look at Nerdist or
you'd look at you know some of those kind of
channels but But he doesn't see himself as anything
more than an equal. It's just you know he's just
successful that's all so like that's that's how
i kind of portrayed the character but um so like
i created him to fit like me so like i get where
people want a character that fits them and and
i get where this guy's saying that you know we
need fresh creations and he's right because we
do um overemphasize these well -known characters
entirely too much to the point that they get
shoved down our throat look how many batman and
spider -man Superman reboots we've had over the
last 30 years. I mean there's been a lot And
it's not simply of going back and having young
actors play the characters and have you know
the younger generation versions and time periods
It's they're recasting like every decade spider
-man less than that, but same thing with Batman
now at this point, but So like again like I kind
of get both sides of the coin But I and I also
get that it's hard to get people to Actually
see these characters being that they're diverse
in there for a different group of people So like
it's I don't know I applaud both sides of it.
It's just Yes characters have to evolve to a
point, but I don't like when they they completely
change them either And I think that I'm not the
only one that's like that and there are people
that want them to change and there are aspects
that are dated like obviously fighting communists
or fighting different ethnic groups or whatever
that they may have done in the early 1900s or
mid 1950s or something. Like obviously that doesn't
apply now, but it was a social commentary of
what was going on. It's like saying Looney Tunes,
yes, they rebooted it to now so that it's more
fitting and more timely to the now instead of
being. the way it was back then but everything
is a product of its time and yes there should
be some evolution but there also should be some
new creation too and we shouldn't keep playing
in the same sandbox and remolding aspects of
the same thing and saying here eat this again
we just fed it to you but here here's a new version
you know it I guess that's kind of my point with
it is not that there shouldn't be evolution of
characters but that there should be new creation
as well so So yeah, that kind of gets both of
my soap boxes done And I'm sorry if it seems
like I'm ranting like if you guys have any comments
on it I'd love to hear your comments and If you
want to send voice recordings you can send them
to 502 -526 -5821 and tell us it's for altered
geek And I'll play them on the show or you can

If you guys have any suggestions for stuff that
I could cover for like the AGNN or the altered
gaming altered opinions reviews tech You know
questions of the week stuff like that Just go
ahead and send them to either the episode poster
feedback at geekcastradio .com I'd really love
to see what you guys want to see come up in the
episodes I've been having a lot of fun with the
newer format. I'm doing the segments and kind
of Playing with different different subjects
in the show It's been interesting This year this
year. I've had a lot more optimism a lot more
fun with all of the stuff in the network I think
specifically because I got to start off. I did
the awards I rebooted AGU. I got you know the
top 50 later this year. I'm gonna have a There's
gonna be another event that I believe movie revolt
and Optimus Solo are going to headline. That's
going to be sometime in June, July -ish area.
In August, I'll be doing another event much like
the... Well, it's going to be kind of revisiting
something. The top... It's not going to be a
top list. It's going to be the GCRN Wars Tournament
90s Villain Bracket. And this will be the same
size bracket as the video game icons bracket
we did last year and What will happen is I plan
to? I've had this list made for years. I've wanted
to do this for years since we did the 80s heroes
or 80s villains bracket I wanted to do the 90s
villains because Yes, I was familiar with about
50 % of the villains in the 80s. I'm familiar
with all of the ones in the 90s I watched a lot
of cartoons. So I have them all listed on this
thing. I have this bracket put together. I tried
to pair them as best as I could. But I really
cannot wait to get this list going. And it's
going to be, of course, a vote on the website.
I may bring back the traditional voting method
that we used to do with the little 50 % and the
choosing from the actual polls. The way that
the other thing broke down worked out pretty
well too. But I might change it. We've got some
changes going on at Geekcast Radio in the next
month, so that should be fun. So I hope you guys
have enjoyed this episode. I hope you guys enjoy
some of the comments coming up or concepts. So
thank you for listening to Altered Geek Unlimited.
