Altered Geek
IDW Comics, Snyder Cut, and Elon Musk on Higher Education

About this Episode
You are tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered
Geek. Hello and welcome to Altered Geek. I'm
your host Steve Megatron Phillips. Joining me
in this endeavor into geekdom is TFG1 Mike. Brought
to you by Fudge Brownie M &Ms. Brought to you
by Cornflakes. I wish we were sponsored by Fudge
Brownie M &Ms. Being sponsored by the Mars Corporation,
that would be awesome. we'll send you to the
planet just north of earth free candy for life
it almost sounded like bane there for a minute
from the dark knight rises i saw somebody with
a mask like they had a face mask of bane and
they were using it and they're like i actually
have a reason to use this and i says and if when
people can't understand you from wearing it just
like any other mask you have the excuse of well
i'm bane What we have here is a bunch of podcasters.
There's a podcaster that don't know how to podcast
because they can't do it professionally. Yeah,
so it's entertaining to me. I've been having
fun watching all these different masks that pop
up and the fact that you cannot understand anybody
that wears them unless you're standing within
their six -foot circle. Yeah, I promised myself
I was not going to bring this up this week, but
I'm sorry I have to. Before we recorded this
podcast, my wife and I had to go make a Walmart
run for some groceries and some other household
knickknacks we needed. I counted within seven
people that were behind me in line waiting to
get into Walmart. Six of them did not have masks
on. That's not counting myself and my wife because
we were wearing masks and I'm like, oh My god,
whatever. Anyway, we're here to have fun Because
the geek cast didn't work and altered geek entertainment
and whatever thing you want to age out on We're
all about the fun here at this podcasting network
Even though we make fun of really bad podcasters
that put their hand over their mouth while they're
talking Well, you should speak about yourself
Michael I am I swear that's what he did during
that entire movie There's like no possible way
that that movie sounded that horrible. Yeah,
I can't even fathom like why. Like why? That
was like one of my biggest pet peeves. I'm sitting
in the theater watching that in IMAX and I'm
going... You can't understand a word coming out
of his mouth. I felt like being, you know, Chris
Tucker and sitting there going, do you understand
what's coming out of my mouth? Um, at him, you
know, it just, I don't know. Anyways, uh, before
I went on that tirade, um, well, I guess we should
go to. Since we're already on this this kind
of crappy topic of kovat. Anyway IDW's recent
Announcement you should say I mean it's it's
very sad At first they were furloughing employees
and now they're just straight laying them off
IDW has been in trouble for a while before kovat,
but they've been in trouble for Just staying
afloat. Really? Yeah. That's sad because they
have such awesome content. I know! Like honestly
their art and their stories put DC and Marvel
to shame. I know. You hear that people? Get on
the IDW boat. I mean they have all your classic
80s franchises anyway. Yep. They have tons of
Star Trek comics for those trekkies out there.
I know I'm they have transformers They've been
getting back into those So they have transformers.
They have turtles. I mean seriously folks. I've
said this before and I'll say it again Anyone
who has ever been a fan of the Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles needs to read the IDW main ongoing
from the beginning because it is Singly the greatest
comic book series of all time. It takes everything
in the last 30 plus years, 35, whatever it is,
35, 36, whatever it is years of TMNT and just
absolutely is a love letter to the TMNT franchise.
Kevin Eastman is on it. Tom Waltz, Bobby Kernau.
Bunch of awesome artists the first 100 issues
are amazing Just go read it go read everything
turtles from w transformers all that good stuff
They just have such really cool interesting comics
Well and not not to mention that but we've been
quoted in them Yes, we have so I'm a little bit
more partial but But even then like I I don't
promote things that I don't personally like It's
funny you mentioned that because I actually bought
every cover of it after I saw that Yeah, you
did. I was like I was still haven't sent my copy
to me yet. You rat bastard anyway It's funny
you mentioned that because we were actually quoted
on issue 55 of IDW's Teenage Ninja Turtles This
is what I was saying earlier. If you have ever
been a TMNT fan, you need to check this out Geekcast
radio Now I love that they quoted the network
and not me I I absolutely love that because that
gets our name out our name. Our network's name
is on a fucking comic book. I'm sorry to curse
but holy crap What's even funnier is You know
back in the Back in the day funny. You should
you know also bring this up. I was reminiscing
about 2010 Mm -hmm, and I think you know where
I'm going with this Oh boy where we were literally
on every video game website on the internet Literally
everywhere well actually early Maurice LaMarche
was but But yeah, I mean we were we were literally
on every Gaming site on the net like you know
joystick which is now in gadget, but You know
just all kinds of Video game sites were just
it was just everywhere. I I could not believe
it Yeah, you could not believe it I was up late
at night, and I was just like I was looking at,
funny enough, I was looking at the Batman Arkham
games, and I was going, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa, whoa. I was like, dude, this is everywhere.
Yeah. See, as the guy who was doing the interview,
I... Thought Maurice LaMarche was gonna come
after me not that he ever would he's an amazing
person. He's a nice Guy, but like seriously,
I know people and I'll mention their name in
a moment here I know people that have gotten
cease and desist on interviews from dist from
Disney lawyers. Oh wow, okay Yeah, so what you
have no idea the agony that day after we get
off that interview because I my biggest thing
with interviews is unless we have a certain date
we have to hit Now back then I was getting interviews
out as soon as I could Which was good as soon
as we could get them out because I'm like, okay
I just did this amazing talk with this person
whomever more race to Marsh whomever doesn't
matter if it's him or if it's somebody else.
Oh my god the world needs to hear like our Kevin
Connery interview that to this day is still my
favorite Kevin Connery interview not because
we did it but because the answers he gave to
our questions the way he tells his September
11th story on our interview is my I've heard
him tell it other places but the way he told
it to us is by far the best version That story
really? Yeah But no that day after we get done
with with Maurice LaMarche and we got the interview
online and it went viral and I'm like just waiting
for an email to come in from it from his people
or from him saying hey, please take this down
Blah blah blah blah. He wasn't supposed to say
that blah. I was waiting for Warner Brothers
or whomever was doing the I forget Rocksteady
was doing I was waiting for Warner Brothers or
Rocksteady to contact me and say you need to
like x -nay that interview say Because I'm oh
my god. I was quite surprised that that even
came out in the first place I was I was ecstatic
to see it. I was like, oh this could be our our
big break I mean, yeah, I mean, it just could
have gone anywhere. But I was, again, I was ecstatic
to see that it had blown up like it did. Yeah,
because that was an interview that myself and
Optimus Solo did, Kevin Thompson. And that was
not like the way we structure our tune cast interviews
or our voice actor interviews. We have all these
voice actor questions. One of those questions
is. What type of voice acting do you prefer to
do? And we, he listed animation, video games,
you know, what, what, you know, narration, whatever
he listed, like through different things and
video games was in there. Maurice started out
his answer with, well, it's funny you say that
about video games. Cause I just got out. Like
it wasn't like we, we found out, like, I didn't
even know he was going to be Mr. Freeze in Arkham
city. Did not even know. Cause I was not, and
I'm still kind of not up on the current generation
of gaming. Wasn't then I'm not now So I had no
clue and I'm like, oh really? It isn't like I
sought this information out to say hey Can you
give us a sample even though I did ask him in
the interview to give us a sample and he politely
said that he could not because of obviously NDA
but yeah, totally As expected. Yeah, but it wasn't
like we sought out the fact that he was in it
It was just a simple question about voice acting
and what type of voice acting did he prefer to
do. And then he said it's so funny about the
video games because it's basically you in a room
talking to yourself. Which most of the time it
is. That's true. So yeah, that was a very fun
time for the network. I think that in the IDW
comic quote, are the two most make -me -famous
things we've ever done in 11 years. I would say
so. Aside from the fact that we threw, when we
did the first Top 100, that thing was huge. Yeah.
And each subsequent one has gotten kind of less
and less notoriety. I think one, because it's
a lot of us just tooting our own horn, and two,
just nobody cares. Or just doesn't care about
the topic. It's a lot of work and a lot of things
have changed since we did that first one Yeah,
I mean we did some that they were pretty good
I think the TV one was about the last time anybody
actually gave a crap like not only hosts, but
the guests or the listeners And and the first
one was kind of a giant Basically middle finger
to IDW or not IDW but IGN and Kevin and all of
us were kind of trolling, you know, back in what?
2010 we were trolling IGN because they had a
top 100 of all time, you know, animated series
and they made you click through 100 pages, which
I mean, I get it. You're ad based. You need the
revenue from the clicks. But at the same time,
It was a bit ridiculous like so when we did ours
we made this big point out of going Hey, you
only have to click four times Because the page
would have been too insanely long to load and
so we just like okay, here's the first 25 Here's
the next 25. Here's the next 25 and then the
final 25 well that and also optimus solo wanted
it to be a podcast episode series because We
could then Back it up. Explain why. And we took,
I think, 20 or more different. It wasn't just
us. It was 20 or more different networks. A lot
of it was about half of them were defunct now.
Yeah, they they kind of discontinued like Pop
Culture Network and Chicken Pop Pod and some
of these other ones that were big at the time
that kind of floated away. And it was great collaborating
with all these different geek networks which
kind of also was another staple I feel that Is
kind of lost in today's landscape of podcasting
And I say that because everybody yes, everybody
interviews with each other everybody, you know,
they'll bring out a guest or something, but I
feel like the actual These these big projects
don't happen as often as they should and I feel
like a lot of people either a just choose not
to be part of them or Or they just don't There's
there's not a lot of people willing to back up
their opinion Mm -hmm in a large Kind of almost
committee based type thing and that's kind of
what happened with the top 100 Yeah For me, it's
it comes down to basic this basic etiquette of
email. If I am going to sit and write out a pitch
for anyone, anyone and everyone to look at to
have them be included in something so. All encompassing
and such a large project. If you can't even spend
the time to read the email and hit reply or reply
all and say either a quick yeah sure we'll take
care of it or no we don't have time for that
right now or we appreciate you thinking of us
just an answer. Now this goes for me this goes
to everything in my life I hate absolutely loathe
waiting for an answer from Anyone. So do I. We
live in a world where we all, most of us, have
a smartphone, a computer, a tablet, something
with an email application on it that if you get
an email from somebody saying, hey, I need to
hear from you by this date or something, please
respond. Yada yada yada. It takes you two seconds
to get that reply or reply all and say Either
yes, I will take part in your project or I'm
sorry. I can't do that right now or whatever
it is I don't care if it's a no I can take somebody
telling me no, that's not the problem. The problem
is not knowing and as we all know Knowing is
half the battle The other half is red laser,
blue laser. Or extreme violence. I saw another
meme that was that it was it says knowing is
half the battle. The other half is violence or
something. And it was like it had Flint from
G .I. Joe. And I was like, well, I'm not reposting
that meme because it's just not cool. I was like
the red laser, blue laser. Yeah, OK. That's that's
100 percent part of the battle. But I saved this,
but I have not. Posted it yet. I don't think
I will so We all know the classic optimus optimus
sign who the hell is optimus slime? Anyway, somebody
from Transformers Ghostbusters Optimus Prime
You know the the classic scene from Transformers
the movie where he disembarks the ship COVID
-19 must be stopped no matter the cost and I'm
like Oh, and can we also talk about the other
meme that's going around now? You gotta be specific.
Oh, I will the meme that at this point in my
lifetime is so friggin I'm so over it and just
so just I cringe every time The the my plans
and then 2020 plans meme. Yeah, that one's gotten
old. You remember when memes were actually inventive?
Yeah, and they didn't like I created this this
funny thing on my Facebook my Facebook called
Monday memes. Yeah, or me I did it more so as
a sarcastic kind of slap in the face to the fact
that they're out all the time and bookmark them
like no other and it's funny because like I'll
just do a massive dump of all of them like on
my phone from from the last time I did it yeah
and some of these like yeah they're they're funny
and they're inventive but at the same time like
I don't I don't think that they're lasting like
when when these things first started and I made
this dumb I came up with it I scripted it it
was just I made a movie trailer basically called
the meme killer uh I remember in my first year
of college and uh it started off with you know
like the dancing baby thing like the ukechaka
you know um song from like the late 90s. It was
like a CG baby that was just dancing to Ooga
Chaka over and over. And so it starts off with
that and then it goes through like these various
different ones and at the time the whole, you
know, the Street Fighter one, the Hadoken, that
was one of them, or the the Vader, you know,
Force Choke, or the Owling or Planking or...
You know various other stupid ones like that
and then they started tying music to some of
them Before they had like all the current programs
that people use now Whether it be tick -tock
or some of that other garbage I'm old. I don't
care about that stuff. So So anyways, they were
doing all these different memes and I was I was
one meme short when I was getting it put together
and I was like, okay I need one more and then
I waited to like cuz they were they used to come
out like about every month and then they were
like every other week and then they were every
week and then they start coming out almost daily
and I was like getting ready for the next part
of the shoot and I'm like, okay I need another
meme and I was doing research and then I was
like, oh it's supplied and and so I was able
to use it in the video, but No, it was just it's
funny because those were more memorable than
a lot of the stuff that's up now because people
just kind of Forget, you know, it's just it's
gone and a lot of that old stuff kind of still
You know even the double rainbow like that was
that was something that I used in that But again,
it's I don't know I feel like the memes just
are not as productive as they they used to be
Yeah Yeah Um, so the one that always gets me
and I just saw this back on the 20th of May and
obviously it's because of, you know, the world
we live in now, but it just, it just always rubs
me the wrong way. Cause it seems like only maybe
10 friends of mine or less likes hot rod or slash
Rodimus prime from G one from whatever my plans
optimus 2020. hot rod obviously meaning that
hello because yes he did kind of get uh um uh
so that that is actually from patriot prime reviews
but star joes was the one that um that uploaded
it they also uploaded um 1985 thundercats my
plans 2020 thundercats roar um the best one though
from transformers the movie with this This, you
know, my plans 2020 thing. My plans, you know,
I am the leader of the Decepticons now. 2020.
Dust. This is bad comedy and it's Galvatron in
his in his canon mode, you know, but that's a
meme I am so already over at this point. I'm
just like done with that. Honestly, just give
it a week. No, I know something else will replace
it But they just keep coming up with new ones
sadly, that's my favorite one right now is the
one with with Thanos Yeah, you and Thanos is
like I've collected all these rocks. I've I've
done this and then You know he says just to end
the you know and then cues get some smart alecky
remark Be faster for me to pull this off on my
phone The Like I'm gonna read one just because
These are humorous. Well. I saw what was it Jeremy
Jeremy fine. I think was posting something the
other day or Somebody it was and that was him.
I couldn't help it. I just had to had to do these
um you know he's like you're strong but i could
snap my fingers and you'd all cease to exist
that's cute you know Q and then the federation
thing and then um you know there was another
one it was uh Thanos grabbing the helmet of uh
Robert Downey jr's iron man says i'm tired of
you people and then it pulls it off and it's
him from tropic thunder where he's like you know
the jewish guy playing a black guy and It says,
what do you mean, you people? And then it's got
a fake news report, and it's got Thanos' face
with a sad face and a news report. It says, Thanos
pressured to give back infinity stones. Thanos
claims he's not racist because he has black friends
or something. Oh my god. I was like, that's a
horrible meme. But you know I my favorite one
is is the once I've gotten this infinity gauntlet
and collected all six stones I'll finally be
able to shape reality with just a snap of my
fingers and the cues on the bridge smile I says
lower life forms are so amusing and snaps So
there was an image going this is not a meme is
just an image an image going around Facebook
I wish I had shared it at some point, but I didn't
it was recently Thanos on the left Iron Man on
the right. They were face to face and underneath
it has like a Text of some of what what's going
on? So they're they're facing off against each
other the text says that You know, it's like
this this hidden hidden moment from Iron Man's
history in the MCU Where Thanos says to him all
that for a little drop of blood You go back to
Iron Man 2. What did Venko say to him? make a
god bleed and You know Nobody's gonna pay attention
to that god anymore and I'm like, oh my god,
I can't believe they They've been I mean I knew
that they were planning Thanos and Avengers and
all of that, but just seeing that written out.
I was like Holy crap the Marvel Cinematic Universe
is friggin deep It's definitely some strong writing
unlike some of the DC films Yeah, not that I
haven't enjoyed some of it in the past But I
don't know like I don't know I Feel like they've
kind of missed the boat, but I think it's a lot
of Studio I Don't know what it is. I Mean, I'm
very sad that Snyder had a loss in his family
at the time and so I he had to drop out of Justice
League But I really want all these people to
shut up about the dang gum Snyder cut And now
that we're getting it, maybe they will. This
will just be one of those other things people
complain about. Do we really need to spend all
this to get it? Exactly. It's just, yeah, I don't
I don't honestly care. I don't either. Like it
came out the way the fans are just crying about
this thing. I don't even care. Like it's it's
it's old news. When did the movie even come out?
What was it like three years ago? Justice League
was 2017. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I mean why
why are people still clamoring for this? Like
it honestly doesn't matter. Yes, we were dealt
a bad hand but It's not affecting your daily
life And it's not even that we were dealt a bad
hand. Well, Snyder's cut was but It's still gonna
have some of the other guys shots in it because
there were things that were not shot Yeah, exactly.
I mean the dude had a death in his family It
wasn't like he got fired for no good reason or
for some weird, you know sexual in you and don't
reason or something the dude had a death in his
family and I'm I feel very sorry for him, but
at the same time I Don't really Haven't even
I've only seen bits and pieces of Justice League.
I am so it came out. I have not watched it since
I Haven't even watched it all the way through.
I've seen bits and pieces. I know about You know
whatever but like I don't I I don't have a problem
with the DC EU or whatever they call it whatever
Man of Steel was okay, I thought the way they
told the origin story was somewhat unique and
how they told it, not the origin story itself,
because we all know what the origin story is,
just how they framed it, I like that. But what
has, you want to talk about, even though we were
never really famous for this, but you want to
talk about something a podcast was friggin' built
on. Altered Geek was built. on the BS that is
BVS. I mean, come on. You know, you started the
show in 2012. Well, the night we were going to
launch, there was no topic. Yeah, there was.
We were going to talk about it. And then all
of a sudden, about 35 to 40 minutes before we
recorded, we were asked about the Batman information.
And we saw that coming out. We were like, Hmm
that could be fun. Yeah And then we gave the
idea of what we wanted to see and we got exactly
what we wanted to see mm -hmm so And it's funny
not to not to transition but to kind of tie it
in I Had watched it before but apparently a second
season has come out on Hulu they have this series
called iconic characters And what this is is
is basically actors coming on Who are being interviewed?
So the interviewee the the interviewer is off
-camera sometimes you hear them ask questions
and sometimes you don't you just basically each
actor is you know, they'll say whatever film
it is like Take like Simon Pegg Star Trek Star
Trek into darkness and Star Trek beyond so he's
talking about all three of these films kind of
thing and then sometimes the the The interviewer
will ask him a question So basically there's
20 something episodes of this series on Hulu
and it's a fun little interview series that you
get to hear from the actors How they either feel
about the director how they feel about the film
that they did or whatever and it's really really
cool and interesting I actually really enjoy
watching it because I know I know for a fact
is as Amazing and I don't want to say I don't
want to say anything negative because I would
never It is amazing is what we've done in 11
years and the the interviews that we've gotten
I know for a fact we're never gonna talk to Hugh
Grant or Ethan Hawke or Arnold yeah Arnold Nick
Cage I just love watching the series because
it's a fun look and it's from their own mouths
this isn't you know whatever news outlet reporting
oh you know this person said this about this
and whatever like it's a cool little interesting
series where you get to hear the actors talk
about their certain films from their filmography
like the like the title of the series says iconic
characters so they talk about each certain film
now there's another series on youtube from vanity
fair now say what you will about vanity fair
the magazine but um oh episode 309 of Cyberverse
is out. Sorry. Anyway distracted There's a series
on there from Vanity Fair called Oh, what's it
called? Crap basically, it's the same kind of
thing but oh it's it's career timeline. That's
what it is Where? They take a certain actor and
interview them From the you know from the beginning
of their career to whatever their current project
kind of is So, you know, that's kind of in the
same vein. I really dig that You know, it's just
fun it's interesting stuff to me because it's
not often that we're gonna We're going to you
know be able to Get these yeah career timeline
has 42 videos on on YouTube Very very cool some
of the video like Let's see James Marston Kristen
Bell Wahlberg Anthony Mackie Anthony Mackie's
episode mm -hmm was how I found out about the
banker, which is that Apple TV plus movie It's
with him and Samuel Jackson Harrison Ford has
an episode on here Jude Law Kathy Bates Jamie
Lee Curtis Rob Lowe Willem Dafoe, you know, so
there's all these there's all the and it's Really
an interesting thing where you get to hear it
from the actor You don't have to hear it through
a third party news report You don't have to look
on TMZ and see what scandalous thing is going
on now You get to hear it from their mouths the
stories as it happened Hmm. It's just really
really cool. So yeah Yeah, I'm definitely gonna
have to watch some of this stuff Yeah, I just
sent you the career timeline playlist and iconic
characters. Like I said is on Hulu So, since
we're talking about streaming services, back
to the future. Oh boy, back to the future. There
always seems to be something that people complain
about with this one. This one's kind of a good
reason. So, when was this posted? May 22nd. Yeah,
okay, May 22nd. Back to the future, writer asks
Universal to destroy its censored version of
Sequel. Bob Gale says neither he nor director
Robert Zemeckis knew this Netflix streamed version
existed. Bob Gale is asking fans not to be too
hard on Netflix for a censored version of Back
to the Future Part 2, which was streaming for
a short while. Fans of the series were irate
when they discovered that a tiny portion of the
1989 sequel was changed, poorly. It has since
been replaced with the standard version. The
alteration happened when Marty Finds the ooh
la la magazine within the sports almanac dust
cover The moment was cut short with the cover
of the magazine edited out Gail the screenwriter
of the beloved trilogy explained what happened
and why it was not Netflix's fault The blame
is on Universal who somehow furnished Netflix
an edited version of the movie Gail said I learned
about it some ten days ago from an eagle -eyed
fan and had the studio rectify the error The
version now running is the uncensored, unedited
original version. He continued, apparently this
was a foreign version which neither director
Robert Zemeckis nor I even knew existed for some
country that had a problem with the Ooh La La
magazine cover. I ask that the studio destroy
this version. FYI, Netflix does not edit films.
They only run the versions that they are supplied
to them. So they are blameless. You can direct
your ire at Universal, but I think they will
be a lot more careful in the future and with
the future. Now, I remember when this news came
out, and I know of several, at least one specific
YouTube channel that I won't mention, did two
videos on this. They did one when it was shown
that it was edited and they did one when it was
shown when it was fixed. I read several other
articles. I like that article from what was it?
The Hollywood Reporter Yeah, yeah, I like that
article because they have actual direct quotes
from Bob Gale some of the other articles were
just like blaming Netflix and doing this and
doing that and Personally, I knew the back -to
-the -future movies were on there I've owned
those since God knows when so Edited unedited
version really didn't mean that much to me. I'm
not gonna lose sleep over, you know The fact
that Universal screwed up giving the wrong version
to a streaming service and Gayle is right Netflix
does not edit for sensor like they don't they
don't censor stuff. It's whatever is given that
like Okay, you know how we always talk about
streaming services and how certain things go
from one to the other Yeah, or what like like?
How they just jump around and there's no rhyme
or reason it seems right exactly like right now
the Dark Knight is on Hulu At some point. I'm
sure the Dark Knight will be back on Netflix
or something right now The Back to the Future
movies are on Netflix in a year's time they might
be on Hulu or whatever. What's the other one
that's a perfect example? I was watching the
2008 BB series Merlin, basically. Yeah, I vaguely
remember that. Yeah. So I was watching that originally
on Hulu, and I didn't get to finish it on Hulu
because it disappeared from Hulu. So I jump over
to Netflix and lo and behold, it's all on Netflix
now. So, you know, the streaming rights thing,
the streaming rights game is so crazy. I mean,
unless you're specifically DC or Warner or Disney
or whatever. It's like as much as I would love
everything I watch to be on Netflix and Hulu
only, because that's what I pay for. Every now
and then I'm gonna pay for Disney Plus because
I may want to see Certain content that they have
and at least I know that contents gonna be there
I may want to watch DC Universe at some point
when I want to catch like an episode or two of
Lois and Clark Well, I know it's gonna be there
because that's their content. It isn't them as
a third Excuse me third party Yeah, I in terms
of the kind of switching and part of that of
the sources There's there's a website and I honestly
dislike anything that comes from them Okay, then
why are we bringing them up? Well, there's usually
two One of them They post really stupid articles.
Well, no, I mean, I'm saying that legitimately,
it's, what's the last it's like, Hero Hollywood.
They started out as like a news site, now they
just post mostly like garbage. Like they do have
some news of movies. But like for instance they'll
have Basically they'll have an article that's
like clickbait It says you know Johnny Depp transforms
into the Joker for Robert Pattinson's the Batman
Okay, and then you open it it's like it's it's
fan art Like though and sometimes we'll throw
fan art at the end of the the quote But usually
it gets cut off and depending on where you're
reading it like the the text And then it'll have
fan art and they do this a lot Geez and and so
that that was like one reason I stopped following
him was because it's just all mostly that The
other site is we got this covered No, don't even
I Okay, this is gonna be all your fault and I
really really want you to make cover art for
this episode now that you brought them up There's
an image It's on my Facebook somewhere. I'll
see if I can find it later. Whatever People started
sharing links from this website and I've looked
at several of them over the past year or so and
none of The information is factually correct
None of it is We got this covered has nothing
covered the image that I was mentioning just
a moment ago is basically Chris Farley yelling
at two kids For the love of God, please stop
sharing links from we got this covered Well,
like it's funny because certain things they'll
Like they'll they'll quote their source sometimes
Like for instance, there's there's an article
that Like Indiana Jones five producer doesn't
want fans to worry says they've got the best
of everything if you click on it on their site
It says you know movie web is the source But
if you click on the Johnny Depp one that's on
there They have You know that stupid teaser video
that they had of the the Batman and then they've
been at the The article then they've got the
same image and same basic article is what's on
heroic Hollywood except they posted it first
and then they quote the the thing of you know,
oh, it's an Instagram source and then You know,
there's there's other things That they'll post
Trying to find a good example of it on here They
They'll say sources closest to us, you know of
we got this covered or something and then they'll
source themselves That's just that's just horrible.
Yeah Yeah, so I mean It's it's kind of one of
those sites that I just I don't particularly
care for and I mention it because it's Yeah,
anytime anyone shares anything from that website,
I post the image I mentioned and I always say,
please, for the love of God, stop sharing links
from this website. This is not news. They have
nothing covered. Their sources are garbage. Pretty
much. So, yeah, I mean. That's one side of just
I don't I don't care for So Going down some happier
shoot here Okay, there's a there's a hashtag
going around of make solo to happen Please don't
second anniversary of the movie hitting the theaters
and more or less, you know Disney Plus and Disney
is not I Don't think they're gonna focus on any
more movies anytime soon Being that their Star
Wars slate is pretty packed with their TV content
with Mandalorian with the possible lb1 show with
you know Various animated projects that are going
on and then another like prequel series Don't
I don't honestly think they're gonna revisit
it, but people are trying their blasted best
to make this movie happen You know like I know
it's still a hashtag or or putting you know this
spot reserved for solo 2 for their DVD collection
or Just various other things that don't Yeah,
I am It was an okay movie as a Star Wars movie,
but it wasn't an excellent movie Yeah, I haven't
even seen it Like, I know it's on Netflix, I
think I started it, but I never actually finished
it. It's not bad, but... it's relatively unneeded.
I don't know, man. Yeah, I mean, like... Look,
I'm perfectly happy with what Star Wars content
we have currently. I'm very excited for Mandalorian
Season 2. I'm very skeptical about all these
cast announcements for it though because I'm
like What rule is that person gonna play? What
are they gonna like? I just I don't know. Anyway
Yeah, I'm very happy with the Mandalorian I actually
was just today earlier today listening to the
soundtrack again It's on Spotify and I'm sure
it's on other places as well You know, so But
it's just like I Don't know like really come
on people do we really need another? sequel This
kind of goes into something we were gonna be
well We're actually gonna be planning it not
gonna say what it is yet But I was gonna do this
topic as part of that new thing that we're working
on You know not all films need sequels not all
films need prequels not all films Need to become
Franchises there are movies out there that can
be a Solo movie pun intended Yeah, and unfortunately,
that's not the case Unfortunately not So so I
don't know and then there's I saw an article
by Elon Musk about college. Oh God It says college
is basically for fun, but not for learning and
that did that a degree is an evidence of exceptional
ability Did he actually go to college I don't
even like I've heard of him and I know what you
know, he created Tesla Yeah, Tesla. I know but
I'm just saying like Some of these people that
come out and say some of the stuff is like really
well, that's that's He founded SpaceX the boring
company It's a tunnel construction service Neuralink
Tesla X Dot -com which is a bank thing open AI
zip to the musk foundation and PayPal Yeah, PayPal,
yeah. It says he's an engineer and a citizen
of like three different countries. He's a little
bit wacky and out there, too, though. Most eccentric
billionaires are. Yeah, but he went to the Queen's
University in Canada and then he went to the
University of Pennsylvania. OK. But he's also
like a multi -billionaire, so I don't know. Exactly.
But regardless. His comment is basically that
college is not for learning and that you could
basically learn anything you want for free Which
I agree to some extent just because I went into
college a number of years ago and Knew how to
do majority of the things that were in it Yes,
did I learn some different things about aesthetics
and some different visual components for the
video aspect But I knew pretty much a lot of
the other stuff that was being handed out where
I'd done a lot of the other stuff that was being
handed out at some point. So it was mostly, I
mostly went to college so I could get the paper.
It really didn't have much to do with wanting
to, I don't feel like I learned as much as I
probably could have in a sense, but it wasn't
like, I mean it wasn't a totally bad experience,
but I also had to struggle just to get there.
I didn't thankfully have to pay for any of it
because I was below a certain income range and
At the time Mary was pregnant with our first
son and so I Qualified for financial aid Which
had never happened before which is the only reason
I didn't go to college until that point And then
I spent the next four years on a two -year degree
because I had to work full -time just so that
I could make ends meet and still go to school
to get this piece of paper. Right. And so, I
mean, to some degree, I kind of agree because
I did get my my first job of working with podcasts
and media for a bigger organization, which was,
you know, the Blaze. And but I got it without
a degree. I got it because I had. You know eight
years of you had radio under my belt Exactly.
You had experience that didn't need You know
degree. Yeah, and so like I mean now I work a
totally different job That's still in the podcasting
space and an entertainment aspect So some of
my college does come into play into that but
again, I feel like I could have done that with
out the degree. And so I do kind of agree with
him in that sense, because they do make you take
a lot of nonsense classes when you're going for
a degree. And I get that they're saying that
it's to make you more well -rounded. It's also
so they can take your money. Because there's
no reason college is as expensive as it is. I
can take a course online for a fraction of the
cost and learn the same thing. It's just not
accredited by anybody. Really. I mean, unless
you're taking like edx .com or Coursera or something
class like that that has a college class or getting
a certificate, it's you know, so either way,
like I don't. I don't regret getting it, but
I also don't think that it's necessary if you
have the job skills ahead of time. Yeah, so.
Yeah, I mean it's kind of a slap in the face
to the teachers and everything because I had
some wonderful teachers when I went to college
but And and they You know nobody goes into being
a teacher without actually enjoying teaching
people Or being done with their career path and
wanting to inform new people But yeah, I don't
know. It's it just kind of boggled my mind to
see that blowing up over the internet at some
point Cool As I've been doing the last couple
episodes and I'm only doing this because we're
at the 37 hours to go mark the white dragon Not
only has it been funded We're almost at four
hundred thousand dollars Wow So we will be getting
the trade paperback comic book issue for issue
miniseries. That's a prequel to the Mini the
extended series that they're gonna be doing but
yeah, we're 37 hours left and counting for the
white dragon For those that don't know who have
not Heard me talk about this or seen it online
through Jason David Frank Jason font other people
Basically, it's going to be an extended miniseries
kind of thing. In the aftermath, the city was
left decimated, a past reminder of the great
battle and fall of heroes. The heroes were blamed,
stripped of their titles, and hunted. But as
evil once again threatens to return, they must
rise from the ashes with the power of the White
Dragon. So very very cool cannot wait Very excited
about this and it says the rewards will be says
the rewards will be expected somewhere around
December of this year because they still have
to Even though they now have the funding they
still have to go out and make the thing So, yep,
which they should be able to start doing soon
Sunish I saw your thing. I forget the title of
it your your 80s sci -fi thing. That was like
5 000 funded. Oh, yeah before and i'm looking
forward to that. Yeah So that's very that would
be very very fun Yeah I find that I no longer
because i'm no longer in my normal Oh my god,
I have to produce 20 podcasts in one night Kind
of thing mode because my computer's in storage.
I find I have more time to interact again and
listen to other. I know I've said this before
in the last couple of weeks. I keep adding podcasts
to my Spotify. I don't always listen to every
episode, but I try my best to keep up with each
one of them. And oh boy. I'm not saying we're
connected, but we've got a whole, there's a whole
slew of people I plan on reaching out to once
I get back to my full and rigorous schedule that
I give myself for producing stuff. Yeah, so it'll
be a lot of fun anyway. Absolutely. That's the
whole point. Yes, fun. So anyways, I think that
about rounds it up for this episode. I think
so. I think so. So the good people can get a
hold of us on the Twittersphere at SCP -21 and
TFG1 Mike, or they can email feedback at geekcastradio
.com. And I'm not quite sure what the next episode
will hold. I guess it will just kind of depend
on whatever's kind of happening or whatever topic
we come up with ahead of time. But I will say
that just as a teaser, there are some big things
coming. Um, not necessarily on this show, but
on the network as a whole. So stay tuned for
that. And we'll be back in the studio soon. Yes.
So until next time, get altered, get geeky with
the Altered Geeks.
