About this Episode

TFG1Mike and various co-hosts throughout The Pull Bag's history gather to celebrate the show's 10-year anniversary. The conversation covers favorite comic runs, including Transformers (IDW's acclaimed final era, Windblade's character development, and the new universe reboot), Marvel's current landscape with the Krakoa era X-Men and Multiversal Masters of Doom storyline, and reflections on covering both beloved and poorly-received comics over the decade. Two long-lost episodes from six years prior are discovered, pushing this to episode 511 instead of 510. The crew also discusses behind-the-scenes stories, derails into pop culture tangents (including a notably dark 2015 Power Rangers short film), and touches on concerns about Comixology's future.

This is Kevin Conway, and I am the goddamn Batman.

Hey, Jesse Rass here, and you should come on

and jump inside the pull bag as the podcast celebrates

10 years of being online. You've just jumped

inside the pull bag. Join TFG1 Mike and the rest

of the comic crew here at the GCRN as they make

their great escape into comics. From DC, Marvel,

and Image to IDW, Bloom Studios, and Xenoscope,

we have everything right here. Hello and welcome

to The Pull Bag. This is episode 511. You might

be asking yourself, Tf2 and Mike, why is it episode

511? It was supposed to be episode 510 for the

10 year anniversary of the podcast. Well, I actually

found two missing files that have been missing

for the last apparently six years. How'd you

miss me? I can hit you like a broadside of a

barn. So there's there there is no missing Steve

Megatron Steve Megatron was in the last episode

because we did Star Trek numbers two and three

for mighty W polishing Can you fucking believe

it's been ten years since we started this show?

No 2013 seems like three decades ago not ten

years ago, of course time is no longer relevant

anymore but yeah 10 years of the pull bag this

episode i'm going to try to get as many of the

previous co -hosts on here as possible to just

kind of ask them you know talk to them about

their history with the show and what we've covered

and things like that and all that good stuff

so the two files that i found which i don't even

have access to that folder now because it's in

my old computer which I have to have my buddy

Harrison get it out of there anyway Ryan Porter

went by prop but he went by positively nerdy

number of years ago and apparently six years

ago he just dropped off the map Wow no idea remember

that yeah yeah he was awesome he was cool he

was fun i don't know where he is i don't know

what he's doing and the weirdest the weirdest

connections happen folks through podcasting and

through online fandoms and friendships whatever

else he was connected to us through art danner

because he used to work for art like i had known

about ryan because i think of toy world order

and jason devol and dave draper and all of that

but When I first recorded his origins, and then

we did something else. I forget what that second

episode is that I found But we had done another

episode. I think it was a Star Wars comic episode

or something and He was like yeah, I know I know

art I used to work for art or art used to be

a teacher of mine or something or other so it's

always strange to you know where these connections

come from and things like that and Apparently,

the pull bag has been missing two episodes for

the past seven or eight years now. I have been

working my ass off, folks, to make sure the pull

bag stays current. All the links work. All the

audio works. I have painstakingly made sure that

this podcast has stayed on the track that it's

on. for the last 10 years and for a while in

2016 when we were missing a bunch of files and

apparently these just slipped slipped through

my fingers apparently but now we have them and

hence why this is episode 5 11 instead of 5 10

Steve Megatron how the hell have you been yes

i know i pulled a wheelie there i'm doing good

overall yes overall under all we don't want to

get into that but uh under root under root Oh

god, I miss Robert Downey Jr. I mean, he's not

gone. He's just not in the yeah Heaven forbid

I say I miss somebody and then people did he

died? No, he's not dead yet So ten years of this

podcast I tell this story all the time Neither

of us were sure which one of us was gonna take

the comic ball and run with it and it ended up

being me over you, but I remember when we were

doing Batman, New 52, Joker, Death of the Family,

issues 13 to 17, and you were like, yeah, as

much as I love having these on GeekCast Radio,

we need to figure out something else, because

I'm like, okay. So came up with what we came

up with, and we've had a lot of help along the

way, and a lot of people have helped steer, helped

me steer the ship. All that good stuff owe everything

to Mike Booth Ninja Powers because he was the

one that came up with the pull bag. Originally,

it was going to be called the Pull List, but

that name was taken. Make sure you do your research,

folks, when you're naming your podcast, please.

Don't be a bod -ho bag and steal somebody else's

name. Bod -ho bag. Oh, Lord. I want some ho -hos.

It was an old joke, but it's still a funny one.

I want some ho -hos. I could go for some ho -hos

right about now. I forget what show that was

in. Beast Unleashed. That's what I thought. All

of the outtakes that we always bring up from

the Beast Unleashed, which was our Beast Wars

Beast Machines review show. I love you. Shut

up, bitch. I'm not done. Oh, boy. He says it

better than I do, folks, but he doesn't curse

anymore. Nope So comics What was your favorite

part about reading comics for the show over the

last ten years? Exploring some of the ones that

I didn't think I was going to pick up but also

You know kind of getting to sit down with the

ones I have picked up Some of the Transformers

ones the the Beast Wars ones were really good

The Star Trek stuff recently I've really gotten

into. I've just enjoyed getting to read some

new stuff, but also look back at some older stuff.

Yeah, absolutely. We've got a bunch of stuff

planned for this year, folks. We've got Star

Trek stuff. We've got Batman Beyond stuff. Autobotly

April coming up which I don't know if I'm gonna

make it through Autobotly April I had to I know

it's something you've been wanting to do and

that's fine because you have like I don't have

any connection to it and I look at it and I'm

just like oh god Marvel US why but I will If

I can slog through the first three trades of

the new IDW universe that they did, I'm sure

I can get through Transformers Classics Volumes

2, 3, and 4. So I split it up. Volumes 2, 3,

and 4 we will do this April, and then Volumes

5, 6, 7, and 8 we will do in Autobotly August.

There sadly is no more resource comic and still

as of this recording and as of most likely this

release There has been no announcement from Hasbro

as to who the new Comic partner is we know it's

not IDW Obviously, yeah We all as I have heard

still to this day is that they have a partner

Set to go, but they're not ready to announce

it yet Like What are you waiting on as bro like

are you waiting on the release of the new movie?

That's fine. That's Four months away three months

away. I don't know how many months June is from

that while March to June. That's just three months

or so Something like that. I don't know how time

works folks. I really really don't I also love

doing the origins and I've got new origins coming

up and I really, other than that, I've got like

a grab bag of stuff. I know my buddy Eduardo

M. Friere or Friere or however the hell he says

his name. He wants to do G .I. Joe comics so

we're going to do a couple of those trades. I

remember reading the IDW G .I. Joe world on fire

written by Eric Burnham. So, and then he wanted

to do G .I. Joe Castle Fall, which is in the

same continuity. We're finally going to get back

to Radiant Black and doing all that stuff. But

yeah, past... I know this is stupid, but past

August, I don't know what's going to happen from

September to December of this year. I know I've

had this notion running around in my head for

the last two or three years about doing... You'll

just cringe at this because you're like, that's

too much. Don't don't do that. But It's alliteration

time folks I've been thinking about going back

to the very very beginning of Nightwing comics

and doing 90 nights of Nightwing. No Sounds like

torture. No, no, no. Well, you wouldn't be honored.

It would be somebody else with me most likely

No, I know that but it just sounds like torture.

Yeah Wouldn't be torture Torture is reading comics

with only three colors That's what torture is

red white red white the old Ninja Turtle comics.

Yeah. Well, there's those. Yes. Those are more

black and white than anything else There is a

little bit of color in those but yeah, I don't

know So yeah, ten years. We've done a lot. We've

covered a lot. We've switched up our I mean the

style of the podcast has kind of gone back and

forth back and forth but originally we were doing

weekly like I remember us doing all the bat books

from one episode we would get whatever bat book

came out that week from whatever there was Nightwing

or Batgirl or Batman or whatever and I have other

than the Batman Beyond stuff I have not read

any DC comics and probably probably since JT

and I finished off the original 2016 Batman Beyond

Rebirth run. I have not read any of the Batman

stuff or the Nightwing stuff yet for the Rebirth

era. And now I think they're in the midst of

rebooting again, I think. I wonder if they ever

get tired of rebooting a reboot. I don't know

how many boots you can reboot with rebooting

in the reboot, because it's just too much booting.

It's like a boot loop. You're just stuck. Like

a fruit loop. Yeah, pretty much. Somebody throw

a Cocoa Pebble in there somewhere. But yeah,

and same thing with Marvel. Like, if I look at

the last Let's see here, in 2022 we did Transformers,

we did Mighty Warfare Power Rangers, we did Radiant

Black, we did Batman Beyond, that's the only

DC one I think we did. Transformers, Transformers,

the Kill Lock, more Origins, created our own

stuff with Tom Zoller. We did the Rich Kozlowski

interview which is really really cool. And then

we started doing Star Trek and Yeah, like I think

out of this entire list for 2022 There's one

Marvel book and one DC book on here And it's

not it's just number one I've had I've had a

lot of life changes. You've had a lot of life

changes and Financially, I just can't keep up

like eventually I'll get the trades of stuff

but It's going to be a while, and that's one

of the reasons why I love being on certain people's

review lists where I can just download the stuff

because it's for review. Yay. Yay. Or I will

look in my comic library and see what we haven't

covered yet, which that's the other thing. Ten

years in this podcast, folks. I've told this

story many a time before, but I started with

physical comics and then once I found Comixology,

I went digital. Ten years later, Amazon has bought

Comixology and supposedly, from what I hear from

our good buddy Scanner51, in October of this

year they are going to fully destroy Comixology.

There's hate when they do that. Yeah. It was

perfectly fine the way it was. If it ain't broke,

don't fix it. It just, it just sucks. Especially

for me, because I love the Comixology website.

I could sit here and read comics. Now I have

to read them on my phone. And the Amazon, like,

quote -unquote, the Amazon solution to that was,

oh, we're gonna make Kindle comics now. It's

still the same technology, but you have to use

Kindle. And I'm like, isn't that for books? Which

it is, but like, the, the, the, the... The UI

for the Kindle comics is just clunky and junky

and it's not what the Comixology UI is. It just

sucks. So we made it 10 years, folks. December

31st of 2023, the pullback is going kaput. It's

dead, Jim. It's dead. Or maybe it's not. Maybe

it's not. I love doing the origins. I love getting

people's comic stories of how they read comics

or how they got into or out of comics. I can

still always do that. But seriously, once comixology

dies, I'm going to have to find a new and different

way to read the comics that I want to read. And

I don't know if I can financially go back to

buying physical books. Just don't know if I can

do that. I will say this as much as I enjoyed

Reading physical books. Hmm. I don't like the

space they take up. Yeah same token I Don't like

digital because when they get bought out. Yeah,

or decide to discontinue something you completely

lose. Yeah Access yeah, or you lose the way that

you knew, you know so It's definitely a double

-edged sword as far as digital and physical media

is concerned. Yeah, absolutely. It just absolutely

sucks. But 10 years, I mean, I think we've had

a fairly decent run. Oh, I think so. First podcast

on the GeekCast radio network that hit over 500

episodes in one show. And I'll pull that pull

the altered geek is close altered geek is about

45 away from five. Yeah, you're at four. I'm

pretty close. Yeah We'll hit 500 on altered geek.

I'm fairly certain. Oh, yes, you know, I'm almost

there. Yeah Yep. Yep. Yep So yeah, like I said,

folks, I'm going to try to get as many people

as I can just kind of get their memories since

I've already told all my stories at this point

with Steve. I'm going to try my best not to repeat

myself in the upcoming segments of this episode

of the podcast. Anything else you want to say,

sir? Anything you want to bring up? Is there

anything out there that you want to read to cover

for the show or other than the Star Trek stuff

that we're going to do? I mean the Star Trek

stuff, and I'm kind of waiting to see who gets

the Transformers license next. Yeah, me too.

And then I kind of want to cover the rest of

the Marvel and the Dreamwave run. Yeah, well,

we will do Marvel this year. Dreamwave's gonna

have to wait. Or maybe it won't. Well... Dreamwave...

There's only two A -months in a year, so... True.

I mean, we could do Deceptive December or Decepticon

December, but I haven't planned that far ahead,

so I'm not sure what's going to happen. And I

just want to thank everybody who's listened so

far the last 10 years. I wasn't sure, you weren't

sure, we weren't sure what we were going to end

up doing with this show, and I've tried to make

it. As interesting as I possibly can, I'm sure

there are plenty of off -episodes or off -nights

or whatever else and all that. I do know that

I think between the IDW Turtles coverage, the

IDW Transformers coverage, and the Batman White

Knight coverage from Sean Gordon Moore, I believe.

I know currently before we get to Beyond the

White Knight, which is the current series that

just wrapped its eighth issue for the Murphy

verse, I think last time I checked the math on

how long of the coverage is for Sean's universe

that we've done so far. I believe it's just over

12 hours for three different episodes, four different

episodes maybe. And then Joe and I have always

had a blast reading the I think you would like

the IDW TMNT universe I really think you would

probably would it's it's very very good And you

can just I can point you in the right direction

to get the the IDW collections You don't have

to buy them all at once. You can buy one every

other every other three four or five months,

whatever it is and We love that stuff. So that'll

continue for as long as I can still read the

comics. But yeah, so I don't know who's going

to come on next. Not really, really sure, but

hope everyone has a comically fun Marvelous March.

Comically fun. That's right. Comically fun Marvelous

March. You heard me right. I do know a buddy

from another podcast, Brad Felicki, is going

to come on and do his comic origins. Like I said,

coming up next, JT and I are going to do Batman

Beyond Neo Year, parts one and two. Because that

was a six issue series that DC did, so we'll

do that. And then after that, other than Autobotly

April, I don't know what else is coming up in

March. There might not be anything else in March

after that last origins. Not sure yet, so. So

yeah, that's what's going on for us and we're

gonna head to the next clip for whoever the heck's

gonna be on that clip I'm not sure so We'll be

back after this Hi, this is John barber from

IDW publishing you are listening to the pull

bag All right continuing on here inside the pull

bag episode 511 the 10 year anniversary episode

of the pull bag. I am now joined by Ryan and

Flo Merkley. Hello, sir. How are you? Good. Semi

-awake. Semi -awake? As long as they work. I

mean as long as you know where your trailer is

at all times, you know. Trailer. I don't live

in a trailer. I know you're referencing Optimus

Prime, but anyway. I assume you are. Yes, semi

-awake. Yes. Oh, okay. Well, that's so bad. I

wish I had made it. Alright. Yes, yes. How have

I endured ten years of this? Oh, stop! Stop.

So yes, we are here. We are getting Ryan's perspective

on the podcast recording. I don't even know if

he's listened to any of it or anything like that,

but I do remember Without having to look it up,

you joined this show in episode 19 when I got

your comic origins and comic reading. And then...

I wanna say the first thing we covered together

was a hard guy from Fraction? Oh god, was it?

Episode 26? I think? It could have been I know

we did Punisher around Yeah, Punisher was like

episode 42. I like I was like, yeah. Oh, yeah

Punisher. Yeah, cuz Punisher month was a whole

yeah, okay point is is that you've pretty much

been here since the beginning of this podcast,

I mean and You know, I'm just kind of reflecting

on the whole thing of holding I'll stop it Anyway,

you know, just kinda like, hey, by the way, like,

you know, I've published over, and the funny

thing is, and I already mentioned this, and I'll

probably mention it to everybody that I do clips

with, I actually lost two episodes apparently

six years ago. I don't know how the hell that

happened. Originally, this was supposed to be

episode 510, but because I found two episodes

that I thought I had lost, With a guy who apparently

disappeared six years ago named Ryan not you

different Ryan, but Yeah, I don't know but no

I mean ten years of this oh boy I I was saying

to Steve in the previous clip. I said that you

know I we weren't she and I were not sure when

we started this because we started this off the

basis of originally we had done the death of

the family Snyder arc from the Snyder run in

New 52 Batman. We did that on Geek Cast Radio

and then Steve was like, yeah, we gotta come

up with something else. We gotta put this somewhere

else if we're gonna, I'm like, okay, fine. And

I just kinda took the bag and ran with it. So

what do you remember from the beginning to now

for this show? Gosh, I mean the stuff that sticks

out. There's a few one is I'm not sure if we

included it in the pull bag He left there reminds

me but when IDW, I mean the transformer stuff

was obviously pretty big part of Everything you've

done. Mm -hmm. And I mean the three -hour Conversation.

Yes that I had with Genevieve and Amy That was

a blast. I mean we could have gone for another

three hours. I mean you had to cut that down

I Versus I don't remember how I edited that honestly.

Yeah anyway, so I mean that's one some of the

stuff I probably wouldn't have read that we ended

up reviewing right that was actually fairly enjoyable

stuff like the WWE comics yeah, and I know it's

recent but Don't I mean I would have read it

anyway, but I really enjoyed being able to go

over Paul Dini's story where essentially like

he as Batman we did him living. No, I know I'm

just saying like I don't know that I would have

I Would have read it, but it was fun and enjoyable

going over it even though it wasn't sort of a

fun comic It's a very good, very serious comic

that I think everybody should read. Yeah, it's

one of those things, it's one of those episodes

where it's one of those comics where it's an

autobiocomic and autobiographical comics are

not just They're not just about the characters

anymore They're about the person and how the

person got to interact with the characters or

create for the characters and Dini not probably

sorry Dini is another guy that's pretty important

to You in this show because I don't think he'd

be doing it without Batman the animated series

Yeah, no, you know and obviously we did Kevin

Conroy most recently. Yeah, same sort of Same

sort of deal, same sort of feeling. But yeah,

stuff like that. Other stuff that sticks out

is giving you the chance to read stuff you probably

wouldn't have. House of X, powers of X. I mean,

it was fun. And I liked being able to gush over

something that it's not perfect, but man, it

is way more good than bad. And i don't feel like

i'm picking what i bring up the bed. No i'm not

people out there huge moira mctaggart fans there

which i know there are some but there are some

but that but that's the thing like you know.

I don't wanna just like i wanna be able to read

comics that i like or characters that i like

and i want to be able to have those emotions

of. Oh crap, even though I love this character,

I may not love this choice that the writer made

or an art design. Look, I will say all day, every

day, Nightwing Red, forever. I will forever select.

If Kyle Higgins hadn't done that in New 52, I'm

perfectly fine with Nightwing Blue, but for me,

for my choice, I love... Hearing and I you know,

I thank him every single day for being you know

for for letting me have him do this but I have

a clip of Nightwing voiced by Lauren Lester or

he's talking about the s'mores from I think it's

night wing number new 52 number 19 I don't remember

which issue it was but there was a there's the

thing I'll probably put it in here somewhere

and probably right here now I love s'mores as

much as the next guy But I'm fresh out of marshmallows.

What do you say we call it a night? Where he

you know where he said, you know the line and

I'm like that's what I love about doing this

podcast sometimes is that sometimes I can get

voice actors or whatever to take lines from comics

we've read and They're in the voice that we know

that like I wish I really really wish Could have

gotten Kevin to do a couple of lines I mean I'm

so happy in 2012 Steve and I got to interview

Kevin Conroy and I reached out again recently

like literally 6 to 18 months before he passed

and we didn't know Nobody knew because Kevin

was one of those people that his private life

was rightfully so I don't want to pry into anybody's

life. I don't care who you are. You know what

I mean? But like Nobody knew and then all of

a sudden. Oh, he was fighting this or he was

fighting that whatever it was I think he was

fighting cancer, which fucking sucks fuck cancer

You know, so but that's what I like doing sometimes

with this show is getting the the voice actors

who voice the characters that we grew up on To

be able to take some of the comic lines from

some of our favorite writers and voice those

just to have really really awesome clips to go

along with them. What were you gonna say? God,

I thought it was my job to go off topic and do

something. That's usually my thing. I'm stealing

my bit. No, I mean, so with regards to what I

was saying before though, the thing I've always

maintained with comics and I feel like the show

We cover a fair amount if you don't like a version

of the character that is currently going or Went

in the past or whatever good news. There's about

12 more and comics constantly kind of reset and

they change writers and characters And yeah,

I mean, you know we gush over some of the stuff

which frankly is Refreshing just because I spend

so much time on the internet and I used to be

one of the angsty youngins and Definitely had

my moments in TF wire and some of the other shows

right, but I don't want to be The angry dude

who shits on everything he doesn't like and that

kind of thing anymore yeah i'd rather just talk

about stuff i enjoy or the things i like about

something even if it's not perfect or even if

it's not something i super like as a whole. Yeah

no absolutely it's one of those things where

when i started this show. I want to do two things.

I wanted to have it not just be every other comic

book show where every week we were doing comic

reviews. That's fine. Comic reviews are great.

Awesome. You know, we sit down, we read something,

we talk about it, we have a discussion. We talk

about what we like. Sometimes we gush a little

bit more and sometimes we may nitpick a little

bit more. But the point is I'm not going to waste

my time reading something I don't like. Like

I'm not gonna wait like I I just don't have the

the wherewithal to do that and then obviously

I created the origins with this show with the

25 questions and Talking and asking people about

how they get into or out of comic reading because

I wanted to do something different I didn't just

want it to be Every other comic book review podcast

that's out there So I think for me creating that

that interview thing that I did with the origins

and then I revamped that in 2019 and then from

2019 to now I've exploded that format into multiple

other of the geek cast radio networks podcast

between cartoons and toys and and podcasting

and Transformers and all the other stuff Also,

I'm old and like and I understand now a lot better

than I used to that a Even this the stuff that

is Bad or I think is bad or whatever effort goes

into like it's not easy. First of all second

of all generally nobody sets out to Put together

a bad work Yeah And all sort of art is subjective

etc etc as well too but yeah nobody sets out

to write a really bad book or make really bad

art or anything like that for the most part obviously

there's weird exceptions and then you get into

the yeah camp and anyway yeah i mean that's the

thing like i say this all the time i've said

this for years i forget where i got it from It's

probably got it from a movie or something or

whatever. Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's

got one. We're not always going to agree on everything.

If the entire society on this planet we live

on agreed on everything, it would be boring as

shit. Again, you may like something more than

I do, or I may like something more than you do,

or we may disagree. We've been friends long enough

now at this point that if we disagree on something

we can be like, oh, okay I see where you're coming

from, but that's not how I feel Let's you know

what I mean? Like it's kind of like the intelligent

gremlin from gremlins to can't we all just be

civilized apparently not but you know, that's

how I approach it where it's like Okay, I see

your opinion Don't agree with it, but I see it

and I respect it and it's like that's the way

you feel. That's the way you feel You know what

I mean? Yeah So in November of 2020 2020 what

the hell 2013? Yeah, let's not let's no no no

let's not revisit 2020 at all Yeah, no, I know

yeah, yeah In November of 2013, episode 41 is

where we started our first Punisher month. It

was supposed to be an annual thing, once a year,

doing various Punisher comics. I think we've

only ever done one. The first one we covered

was Punisher Born. We did year one. We did the

2004 film adaptation. We did Welcome Back, Frank.

Which, Welcome Back, Frank, I've told this story

every single time that I do an origin this episode

with people. That book killed me. I can seriously

pinpoint the time that I went from physical comics

to comixology. It was the week before in November

of 2013 because when I was reading Welcome Back,

Frank, I fell asleep and that book fell out of

my hand. It wasn't because of the content of

the story. It was because of the weight of the

actual book, like all 12 of those issues in a

hard cover. That thing's heavy. I think it kills

somebody. I don't usually get hard covers. I

wait and get the soft covers. It's easy anyway

Yeah, and eventually we did Roccas and that kind

of thing And then there was only a couple more

Punisher stories and then we hit the yeah And

then we hit the Misuse slash complete misunderstanding

of the character in real life and yeah uh...

we also did in the beginning before we ended

up doing that uh... used okay so your technical

debut was your your origins episode in episode

uh... nineteen uh... you and i and and who else

is in this episode you and i and j t did marvel

then marvel now because at the time 2013 in June

of 2013 Marvel was going they were yeah Marvel

now was the thing. Yeah, that was the latest

relaunch Yeah, that was the latest relaunch at

the time. It's it's a good seed It's a good thing

neither of the big companies ever relaunched

again after that And then you and I and Steve

Megatron did the DC version of that which was

DC Comics pre -imposed new 52. Oh boy Yeah. Man,

New 52 didn't age well. I think some... Oh no,

some of it did. Like some of it's still good.

It's just, yeah, as a whole. As a whole. And

as a concept. Yeah, it kind of floundered pretty

badly and hurt them for a while. Which is unfortunate.

Yeah, very unfortunate. Like for me, I will say

I absolutely loved Snyder's death of the family.

And his... What was volume? Is it volume 7? Endgame?

Whatever the return of the Joker volume was where

the Joker comes, I think it's volume 7 Endgame.

I liked that. I love Kyle Higgins' new 52 run.

It was like the animated series just jumped right

onto the page for me. And then Gail Simone's

Batgirl is unsurpassed by any other previous

or future Batgirl writing. Getting to talk to

her was a blast. We didn't talk to her. No, I

did at Comic Con here in Ottawa. She was there

and I got to speak with her for a while and she

is, aside from me, one of the biggest Punisher

fans, getting to talk to her about it and then...

Yeah, it's just it's sad that she made very well

because of a lot of the real -world stuff Unfortunately

may never very well never get to write the character

again, which sucks, but oh well And then you

had to basically, you know slap me upside my

head a few times in episode 26 Which was the

matte fraction Hawkeye, which I'm going back

and rereading that Like I'm going to go I'm in

the process of rereading that to Recover it on

the show at some point because I feel like it's

aged well I feel like it's aged well, too And

obviously that was the Genesis and and and the

inspiration for the Disney Plus six -part television

series with with Renner and and Bishop and all

of that, but I Remember back then I was not yeah,

you were big on it, but no time for you. So yeah

Yeah, it is what it is. I mean, to be fair, like

I wonder too how. Gosh, maybe I'll go back and

listen to it. We'll see. I wonder too, like how

I felt about comics and everything in general

back when. I did the origin story to if I don't

know, I feel a lot. Don't know how I felt back

then I feel great about the comics in the industry

now I mean there's a bajillion really good creators

and books and going on and then Independence

have risen significantly and just a ton of different

stuff going on. So anyway But yeah, I mean it's

it's been one hell of a ride Harley coming over

for your episodes episodic Interlude slash interrupting.

Are you just gonna sit over there? Stare at me.

All right. Yeah, just sit and stare. She's She's

all about that one Republic. She just don't care

man. It's hard to believe it's been that long,

but yeah, it's it has Been a while. It's been

And it's been mostly good for me at least in

terms of comics wise to I Have not done anything

really stupid like sell all my comics for a woman

or anything like that Although I didn't do that

since I was like 20. So that's good. Yeah, it's

been a while since that happened I Do cycle through

and tend to like if I don't think I'm gonna reread

something So I still get the trades of pretty

much everything and then yeah, if I don't think

I'm gonna reread it I'll Get rid of them, but

there's not a whole lot that fit into that Yeah

We got to I don't think you were on this episode

but we got to a point where we celebrated 75

years of Batman because in 2014 it was 75 years

of Batman, which is Yeah, you weren't on that

one, but that's that one's really good talks

about oh, yeah No, we you and I have talked about

it all the time, but I mean we specific episode

75 of the show was 75 years of Batman but yeah

where you and I kind of it was you know the Transformers

from IDW and and and all of that and it's kind

of where we Probably gonna numbers was a ride.

Yeah, it was Sad you transformer series for anyone

that doesn't know I mean it ran for a good decade

and Had a hell of a run and actually got an ending

which most comics do not get I'm really happy

that they Got to end the cut the 1 .0 universe

essentially on their Terms, you know before everything

happened and now they are losing their license

very soon Which is too bad, but on the other

hand, I mean, they had it for over a decade.

You know, it's about time maybe somebody else

gets a shot at it. Yeah. I don't know. I just...

I could not. So, this is the problem I have.

It's the same... For IDW Transformers, it's the

same thing with Marvel. If you do something to

end your universe, it's really hard for me to

consider you rebooting, like, the same company

or the same whatever. Rebooting the universe

and starting over like once you threw a unicorn

in there. That's it General I think it was difficult

just because to be blunt The especially the back

half of it was so good. I have a hard time Reimagining

a lot of those characters and then so I did read

the first sort of bit of it It just wasn't different

enough. I think you really have to kind of pivot

almost 180 degrees Yeah away from how those characters

were or how they were used the other problem

with transformers is and we've talked about this

before a It's rebooted every single time. There's

anything. Yeah, so There's a lot of competition

there. Yep be I Just didn't feel like going back

to the origins of the war again Yeah i feel like

it's been done so many times and then around

that time too we had the movies getting sort

of a soft reboot and everything else it just

i don't know if i like too much it was before

the netflix series would drop and they and they

again kinda went over the origin of the war and.

Yeah it's it's a well trodden story and it's.

I don't know, it feels anti -climactic now. Like

we know Optimus Prime and Megatron end up fighting,

that kind of thing. I was way more invested in

seeing their friendship and seeing also what

could have been when they did stuff like Megatron

speaking to the past Ori and Pax. Yeah. And inviting

him to join in and just, you know, sort of change.

The course he's on Megatron the Autobot was was

kind of I don't want to say it was groundbreaking,

but it was kind of like hey This is something

kind of new I don't think they've really done

this before and it was cool and it was fun and

seeing him And I know a lot of people don't like

IDW erotimus. I am NOT one of those people I

love IDW erotimus. IDW erotimus was great. He

was he was he was grading when he was supposed

to be though. Yeah Yeah, you know and he did

he generally did the right thing and he grew

up when he needed to and yeah, the Megatron stuff

was great because We usually just see and this

isn't meant as a knock, but it's gonna sound

like it We usually just see the cartoon version

of Megatron who he's strong. He's angry. Yep,

and Other characters kind of follow him just

because of that. Yeah versus The comic book Megatron

the Autobot in particular showed why characters

would follow this guy. Like why they, what made

him a leader and why people would join him even

if he's not, even if he's doing awful things.

Not to mention him having to come to the reckoning,

stuff like the end of, if you, gosh, it wasn't

50, sorry, it was the earlier arc. And the end

of the one issue where they're on the planet

with the necro. You know everybody sees. Their

graves and it's surrounded by the flowers of

and the last page is the revelation it's the

flowers of everyone you killed or everyone who's

died as a result of you and each one each one

represents something like a hundred sparks. Like

just a ridiculous number and the last panel is

Megatron on his own essentially weeping at his

and it's just a field of You know, he's coming

to terms with The you know doing genocide constantly

and yeah, I mean Megatron the Autobot is they

did a good job of not of you not necessarily

Feeling a lot of sympathy for him because I mean

he still did a lot of those things He's making

him a little more understandable versus the cartoonish

villainy he's usually up to. That's the thing

with the comics, with the IDW comics, how they

made us understand where he was coming from even

though he was a murderous asshole. That's his

past and he's been punished for that. And then

when he switched, you know, to Megatron, you

know, it's like those adventures, the adventures

with Rodimus, the adventures in the Lost Light,

how he deals with being a co -captain of that

ship and how he deals with the other Autobot

characters, because that's something we had never

seen before kind of thing. Yeah, he tries to

be better. But he still can't escape his past

in the end doesn't i do by the way still love

that. His faith is thoroughly unrevealed. Good

you know that he was either imprisoned for all

time alone right forever or they just killed

him yeah. Like right there we don't we have no

idea and i'm fine with that it's. Like that it's

ambiguous. So yeah, absolutely It's super fun

and it's super super interesting again. That's

one of the reasons why It that's one of the few

like 10 year runs I will probably sit down and

read on occasion and read and reread especially

the last few years with Robots in disguise more

than meets the eye Optimus Prime lost that era.

Yeah And I mean, we finally, I don't want to

say finally, but I did, like with Windblade,

she was the fan vote, but you put Margaret in

there, and the creators like Sarah, Peter, Doris

Shea with the art and everything else and all

that, you know, and you have this whole story.

You have two different arcs for Windblade between

her original four -issue arc and then the Till

All Are One. Arc which i think it got i know

i got three traded volumes i don't remember the

actual issues issue numbered count but Like that

was really really cool she was a really good

character and it's i would still think it's the

best wind blades been written mm -hmm she's just

sort of There in a lot of other yeah books and

stuff like that and they did a really good job

of just making her a fully fleshed out character

in the in the comic books yeah yeah I mean that's

the thing like what animation she has been in

it's been okay it's been cool it's been fun like

her trying to figure out bumblebees memories

in cyberverse kind of thing in the first couple

of seasons of cyberverse that was cool and fun

and it was great seeing her in animation on screen

but where she really excels Is in the stories

that America wrote in the comics. Yes, I reverse

I'd say is the is second best and still a Very

good version. But yeah, the comic books are very

Scott stuff was so good. Mm -hmm Absolutely,

it was and Going through our history here. I'm

I have gotten up to episode 337 which was Transformers

Historia with you and Amy and Genevieve and yeah.

That was so much fun. I could have gone for another

six hours or so. I intentionally put forth and

wrote out the topics to just sort of go through

the positives of it. There's a ton of other...

podcast and ways he could hear about all the

negatives from that time and whatever but I just

wanted to focus on not to mention that but like

our memories reading it and what stuck out and

that kind of thing and yeah I don't remember

how I edited that but according to the information

I see here all as I remember is I was kind of

like the the ghost of Starscream voice Announce

her because I wasn't in it. It was you guys and

I was just doing the clips around the three hours

17 minutes and four seconds Yeah, I think that's

after like any sort of chatting and stuff Well,

yeah, I mean, I don't I don't I don't I don't

ever count that but yeah the fact that we published

that in January on January 23rd 2019 at the time

13 years of IDW publishing Transformers comics

at that time in 2019 And what a 13 years it was

Yeah, it's still the longest run for any one

company on transformers. Yep Absolutely is and

yeah, I mean and like you mentioned with the

WWE I like again I've needed something at that

time. I Was really getting burnt at this was

what was it? It was 20 2018 2019 Was really getting

burnt out and bored with WWE at that time Like

they weren't bad, but they weren't like and then

I found the boom studios comics and I was like,

hey These are really cool. These are You know

stories that happened from the WWE but instead

they're in comic form I get comic book eyes and

kind of yeah, I kind of a little more to mention

sort of treats its half real half not they were

surprisingly fun yeah they were a lot of fun

a lot a lot of fun and yeah i mean i don't know

what we're gonna do now but uh One of the ones

we did do in june of twenty nineteen we did the

the bumblebee transformers movie prequel comic

yes that was interesting. I should do so or cuz

i'm sure there's gonna be some sort of comic

to go along with rise well like. That's a good

question. Thanks to the rights changing, maybe

there won't be for Rise of the Beasts. And that's

the other thing about the rights changing. I

remember, was it last year or it was sometime

recently, I want to say within the last two years,

IDW did come out and make a statement saying

that, or not IDW, I'm sorry, Hasbro came out

with a statement saying... Yes, we have a new

comic partner. No, we are not ready to reveal

to you yet who that partner is and I'm like Why

why aren't you ready? Why can't you just tell

us a name? I like maybe the company wants to

do a full, you know press barrage with it and

that's fine It's it's their thing, but I'm just

like give us the information. We need to know

now We just need to know who it's gonna go to

like I'm The The crazy stupid idea in my brain

is like, oh, it would be kind of interesting

to see what DC would do with the Transformers.

But I don't think that's going to happen. But

the crazy part of my brain is like, Marvel had

them years ago. Let's see what DC does with them

now, I think. You know, I know a lot of people

have mentioned skybound and they've mentioned

other things It would be cool to see if boom

studios got it. I don't think yeah I think yeah

skybound seems like the most likely it's also

possible like one of the other small independence

But yeah, I can't see any of the big two or three

really like I'd be shocked if image went after

Images creating its own universe ability, but

it's a possibility, but it's a very very light

possibility because with their own like Massive

verse of characters between radiant black and

rogue Sun and infernal go red and all like image

has its own thing that they're doing like they're

not really like Set up to do licensed Yeah, like

I've said this for years, you know ever since

we started doing the show IDW was the licensed

king Because they had mask they had GI Joe they

had transformers. They had all this awesome 80s

stuff that we grew up on You know now it's boom

and it's 90s though We did also in 2019 we did

the top you me and Steve Megatron did our top

10 favorite Batman characters So different versions

of Batman, Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, that kind

of thing. So that was fun, as it always is. I

think you and I and JT did the Iron Man stuff.

Yep. I remember both of those. Yep. We did. Did

we ever finish it? We did the part one of Stephanie

Brown's Batgirl. I don't know if you and I ever

finished that. I know I have the second volume.

And then obviously like we mentioned episode

350 was the the Dark Knight the Paul Dini story

which I Don't even have to go back and read that

I as soon as I hear the title or hear his name

I'm like, yep. I remember that's did just like

Kevin Conroy story. I remember it like it was

freaking yesterday. Yeah But yeah, what a ten

years it has been it has been a journey. I am

most likely going to enlist you to do New IDW

volume four five and six to finish that off because

Steve Megatron and I covered the first three

volumes and we just didn't know what to say Like

there are three episodes of this podcast where

Steve and I are just like Huh? What? What's what

are they what's what why is ruckly writing the

character that way or who is this? like we were

like so I was so like I was confused at some

of the stuff with with with So we talked about

this a bit with We talked about it off air about

the Beast Wars comic Yeah, and I initially said

and I was wrong because I liked the back end

of it a lot more than the front end I Initially

my feeling was it wasn't different enough to

sort of justify its existence But they definitely

did a good job and I don't know looking back

on it. I think I was wrong. I Ended up I liked

it quite a bit and I'm sad that you know that

one got that axe kind of early. Thanks to the

W Yeah. Anyway, so the ongoing book, as in the

main sort of universe book, I will say I still

think it's not different enough to justify its

existence. And it was, I definitely don't think

it was a mistake to end 1 .0. I think they did

the right thing at the right time. And I think

it's terrific. The way it is and the way it ended

everything else. Yeah I really wish they hadn't

tried to restart it I kind of wish they had just

either that was the time they lost the license

or they just let it go Yeah One of the other

and that's not to say that the stuff is bad or

I think ruckley's a terrible writer or I hate

the art or whatever None of that is true. It's

just it's real tough right after You know combination

of 12 years or so and so many different creators

artists and everything else to have essentially

just one or just a handful I should say yeah

of writers take over the same characters albeit

in different ways somewhat but yeah I don't know

what it would have been business -wise because

I'm not a business person or whatever else but

I personally think with the end of the universe

with unicorn showing up and the the the Robert

slash barber run those runs ending They could

have gone back and just started doing spotlights

like give give like individual creators true

when we talked about that a little bit that we

liked the Spotlight issues that they did initially

but that man it did not last long and they didn't

They kind of brought it back and then they're

like, yeah, this is a limited thing. And I'm

like, oh, great. OK, well, you and I did Star

Trek Green Lantern. Yeah, that was fun. One and

two. Too bad that didn't get a volume three left

on a cliffhanger, but it is what it is. But that

was absolutely hilariously fun because, you know,

you got the Star Trek universe, you got the Lantern

Corps. Kind of crazy. You and I did Star Wars

will probably do more Star Wars. I gotta go back

to that at some point But we did that and those

were weird and enjoyable too. I wasn't sure about

Marvel initially, but then reading it I mean,

I'm admittedly a Jason Aaron fan. So I was probably

gonna enjoy his stuff, but also the dr. Afra

has really come off and kind of become Her own

kind of character and universe on her own and

is quite popular Which is nice to see because

that I didn't expect to really enjoy Enjoy her

stuff, but I did because I knew nothing about

it one of her Beforehand so yeah, and that's

that's one of the things and I know I'm gonna

be an oxymoron when I say this generally I'm

not that interested in being introduced to new

characters for new things most of the time I

want the characters I know kind of thing but

the way that Dr. Afra was introduced in those

stories I was like oh okay this is so if Vader

is the character we know she's the character

we don't know and then you have the two evil

versions of R2 and 3PO it's like oh I really

don't want to get behind psycho killer droids

but I Kind of like I really really enjoy again

again, you know You're showing me things that

I hadn't really like Jason Aaron. I hadn't really

read his stuff before that was the first thing

You know that I had read of his and I absolutely

enjoyed it and we'll probably have to get back

to that at some point Speaking of which right

in there and then too don't we have? No, I can't

remember the company We did a special with like

jinx world and. Independent ones at one point.

A one of them was like a brian michael bendis

series oh yes yes yes yeah the brain yeah I know

what you're talking about it was like brian michael

bendis number ones or something. Yeah, I kind

of sort of remember and I'm not seeing it here

in the files that I have but Hmm it might have

been for I don't know when because right around

so we're getting because I'm going through the

entire history of the podcast here And we've

gotten up to 22 anyway. There was that. Yeah,

there was that Well, I'm not trying to discount

it. I'm just saying As we're sitting here talking

I'm clicking through every single page from 2013

to now and I'm up to the 2020 where we rebooted

the origins because we had to... I wanted to

streamline the questions so in episode 381 I

started that with a bunch of new guests and at

some point maybe we'll update your origins in

the future and see how you answer the questions

now after all these years. But we did that and

we've got like i said steve megatron i tried

to do the ruckley and you know i already have

the car it's not like i don't know i already

bought the trades in you know in comixology so

i have the comics we can do the thing oh that's

the other thing i didn't know don't care don't

care yeah really. I know we ranted about comixology,

but I don't know. There's no, no, no, it's no.

That's what you're going to talk about. I just

feel like there's no more to be said. No, there's

not much more to be said other than that. I've

heard a rumor and I mentioned this in this in

Steve's clip. I said I've heard a rumor from

somebody that apparently Amazon is going to fully

kill it in October of this year. That's the only

like. That's the only thing I was gonna, yeah,

no, absolutely, move on, go away, whatever, but

yeah, no, I'm done, rent, there's nothing we

can do about it, sadly, because, you know, whatever.

I just, what pisses me off about that is if it

does die, I don't have the money or the space

or the time to go back to physical comics. I

just don't. And I don't like the Amazon Kindle

comics, I don't like their formatting. I just

don't so I don't know point is I don't know what

this podcast is going to do Once I can no longer

access comics ology and that's like ten years

of purchased things like oh you Anyway, I mean

we'll see it's only a rumor. So yeah. Well, I

mean they may also Essentially migrate it or

it may change to something else. We haven't heard

of that. There is a lot of I don't know I'm not

gonna worry about it until there's anything more

concrete. Yeah So, yeah, I mean it's been a it's

been one hell of a ride hasn't it Yep, and yeah,

we've got we've got plans to do a whole bunch

of other stuff folks in the future and Ryan and

I will always be finding some way to talk about

comics or figure out, you know Whatever because

I'm sure there's plenty of comics that either

I like or he may like or you know Who knows what's

gonna happen. I mentioned there's a whole ton

of them that come out every month True. Very

true Someday with it being re -released. We should

really consider doing Cravens last time Did we

never do that I haven't with you anyway, I don't

know if you've done it with somebody else. I

don't think I have. I don't, I honestly don't

remember. Also it'd be fun for you because I

mean that's an arc in the animated series for

example. Yeah, I remember watching the story.

That's interesting. Typing in the name Craven

comes up with nothing. So I mean So yeah, so

yeah, sure like I said, I'm I'm game for almost

anything at this point and like I said before,

you know the the whole origins thing and Finally

getting to like when I hit episode 5 like I kind

of remember when did I first start making the

the plan to get to 500 there was a There is a

point in this in this podcast where I was like,

okay This is the roadmap. I know what I'm doing

nothing. I ever know what I'm doing, but I Knew

like once Beast Wars ended and stayed and the

good thing about the Beast Wars comic was because

Steve can do Beast Wars Megatron, he can do Tarantulas,

he can do Waspinator. Like, I would have Steve

just basically read the comic lines. Like, yes,

we reviewed it, yes, we discussed it, yes, we

gave our opinions of the comic book, but the

other half of those episodes that we did was

basically me just having him read the comic as

the characters. Yeah, I think it was somewhere

around there somewhere around 490 491 492 where

I got I was like, okay, I see the roadmap and

episode 500 was finally after God knows how long

I got the guy from Earth dash the number two

net on Michael David Sims I got him on here to

finally interview him but because this is a guy

much like you was listening to his podcasts back

in 2007 2008 right before I he was basically

the inspiration for me wanting to start podcasting

and Like he would he used to do like the monthly

preview episodes where he would read the solicits

and say which books he was interested in and

whatever else and I was like, okay, cool cool

cool and It surprised me like whenever he would

have a conversation on his shows and he could

just literally like instantaneously pull up Whatever

issue number whatever storyline it was just out

of his brown. Like how do you do that? How do

you like I know you have because he's two years.

He's two years older than me He was born in 78.

So but he has this like encyclopedic knowledge

where you can just pull it out of thin air And

yeah, episode 500, I knew I wanted him for that

Origins episode, and that was such a fun time.

Absolutely loved it. But yeah, the pull bag,

the future, I have no idea. Coming up next, folks,

we are going to go to... I think, I think we're

going to go to my lovely Fembots and I, Amy,

Nicole, and Heather. We're going to recount their

Memories and you know all of the stuff that they've

done here on the podcast and at least you're

going from the low -energy Monotone sounding

guy stop like the super exciting Who knows what's

going to happen? Do we really have to rehash

the I wasn't rehashing I'm saying that I know

you're saying it but I'm saying for the audience.

Do we really have to rehash my No, it's fine.

I'm just I am just saying that anyway Yeah, good

luck keeping control of that one I only go a

little bit off the rails. Oh Trust me like Amy

Nicole and I Amy Nicole Heather and I we can

basically sit here for three hours pre show Just

have some of the best conversations without actually

doing an actual podcast. I have got like 15 years

of outtakes from the four of us doing stuff and

saying they like Part of the things that I usually

put in the pullback sometimes where Amy says

my gosh this is so great like you know I have

that clip of her or I have something Nicole said

or I have something Heather like I have so much

fun with them they are they're amazingly awesome

just you know just like I have fun with everybody

I you know it's my fun meter is not like subject

you shorten it so it's funometer it sounds sounds

more fun so yes So I believe the fembots are

coming up next after that. I'm probably gonna

have JT from Saskatoon on or something I really

don't know. I'm not trying to make this episode

10 year episode super long But it might end up

being super long I don't think it'll be as long

as toy cast episode 100 which was over five hours

I was gonna say or the three -hour IDW Transformers

podcast. I guess we'll see you though That's

that's about par for the course for something

that you're covering for 13 years Oh, yeah. Oh,

we'll be back, folks, right after this. Wake

up, wake up, wake up. He's already doing that.

Oh, no. Oh, my goodness. I start that with every

show and it hurts just as much every time. We

didn't even interrupt you! We were behaving!

Look at us, we were behaving! Give me a second.

Well, I got to make sure I put this in the right.

This is supposed to be clip three, but I need

to make sure I'm right. And I don't say the wrong

frigging thing. Cause then I'll really have to

edit something. You had your moment, Mike. We

gave you perfect. And it was like, there were,

you could almost hear the crickets outside. It

was that silent. Alright folks, we got one Canadian

down, now we go back to America. All over the

country, we are reuniting with Team Angel, it's

the Fembots, Amy, Nicole, and Heather. How the

hell have y 'all been? No, couldn't put us down.

So we are here as people have already heard in

the first two clips with Steve and Ryan to talk

about ten years of the pull bag and I could not

keep count not that I was actually trying my

I was trying my best but I didn't have my actual

math calculator up but these three ladies and

I have recorded between Transformers gem and

I don't know what else At least over, yeah, random

stuff. That's all we ever do is random stuff.

At least over 20 hours of published audio in

a decade. And you're welcome. The fact that we've

just been doing this for a decade is so cool

to me. I don't know how that's possible. I'm

only 20. So yes, basically, like I said, what

I've been doing so far is basically just getting

everybody's memories going around the room and

what we have discovered folks in this research.

I was told I wouldn't have to memorize anything.

No, you don't. My brain is shot, man. It's all

zip codes. Well, I guess you could, you know,

get famous and make a new song for zip codes

instead of area codes. That might actually be

kind of catchy. Exactly. Schenectady New York

is 12345. Yay! There you go. Is it really? Oh

my god. It is. Well, I know Kingston, Massachusetts

is 02364, so there's that. All right. Where the

hell is this? You discovered something. This

is the thing that gets me. It's like after all

these years of podcasting, you discovered something

new that we didn't already know. I discovered

something interesting because what I've been

trying to do and what I will do in the other

clips that people haven't heard yet that'll come

after this is that I've been taking co -hosts

and guests through their history of the show

and what they've done on the podcast with me.

Only out of the four of us, obviously I've done

my own origins with Steve, whatever else, but

out of the four of us, only Nicole and Amy have.

answered the 25 questions about comic book reading.

Heather has never answered those. She has answered

the Transformers ones and the toy collecting

ones. And I'm like, wait a minute. I could have

sworn Heather, I could have sworn I took Heather

through the comic. I swore too. Uh -uh. Nope.

And then of course it's like, wait, you talked

about comics without me? I still, like I said,

I think I'm having a Mandela effect because I

swear I remember her talking about comics. Okay,

Nelson. I don't know. Well, it just means that

we have more, you know, content to deliver. And

I'm sure I've because I repeat myself a lot recording

clips out of order is never a good Piece of advice

folks, so I'm sure I will mention this later

in the episode About a month ago. I found two

episodes that have been missing for six years.

Whoa With a guy that apparently went missing

six years ago Are you suggesting that the pod?

No, so again, sorry to the audience if I've repeated

the story and in the in the previous clips in

the upcoming clips I don't know if you all have

ever Had ever known him, but Ryan Porter. He

went by positively nerdy online Yeah, okay. Well,

I recorded an origins with him and then we recorded

something else. It was two episodes and Somehow

some way they've been even though I've I've tried

to maintain the catalog of the pull bag over

the last decade to make sure it's always current,

make sure all the files are always working. Apparently

this skipped my eagle eye vision of being blind.

And yeah, for the last six years we've been missing

two episodes because originally this episode

and I'm sorry for the audience. I'm repeating

myself. I know this was originally supposed to

be episode 510. It's 511 because I found these

other two episodes that I had to renumber the

whole rigmarole. So yeah, and then come to find

out somehow, someway, some weird, I don't know

what happened. He just dropped off the face of

the earth or face of the internet anyway, six

years ago. So in other words, after he podcasted

with you, he disappeared. Pretty much. Hey, I've

been telling people for years that I am a podcast

germ because I always end up making people record

when they're sick, when they're dying or like

Just go back and listen to the TFUN podcast episode

17 where Michael Wilson and I talked about the

five faces of darkness. He muted himself for

the most part, but I guarantee you there's at

least seven coughs and two sneezes in that episode

because he was sick as a dog the night we recorded

it. Yeah, I'm a podcasting curse, ladies and

gentlemen. Somehow we turned germs into podcasting.

I wouldn't say that, but I am going to start

a conspiracy theory about you. Hey, at least

that'll finally get people talking about me because

nobody's talking about me. Oh, man. That was

sort of terrifyingly relatable. That's a whole

other topic for a whole other night, but yes,

the pull bag, 10 years. Let's just go around

the room. Amy, what do you remember from all

the stuff that we've done over the last 10 years

of the show? Any favorite moments, any anything

from you? Well, how much torture would you like

to go through this evening? Everyone has like

an hour and a half left. Say Yetis. Oh, come

on. The Yetis stuff was awesome. Goodness. Always

interrupting you before we start broadcasting

is always a good one. Of course, if you didn't

record it, half of it went out the door, so nobody

got to hear it. But let's see, all the torture

that we... Oh, goodness. Feel like I'm in high

school all over again on the junior prom committee.

Seven hot chicks and me planning the junior prom.

There's just been so much fun. We've really had

a lot of fun. Just like goofing off and, you

know. My clone is to my world, that type of thing.

All the weird stuff that we've done. That's what

I was going to say is all the inside jokes that

we ended up making. My favorite memories are

stuff that didn't make it on the pocket. Kind

of like what we just did. We spent a half hour

just catching up and talking. There's the funniest

things that happened off. Mike, you know, is

just like, that's what I always remember, just

the conversations. The general silliness and

hey, we shouldn't podcast after midnight. We

can't be responsible for not going to the bed

in dark places because it's after midnight. We

can't be responsible. I always said that. I can't

be responsible where it comes out of my mouth

after midnight. It's not midnight yet, ladies.

You got five minutes. We're all time travelers

tonight. Oh, God. And that's the crazy thing.

So from 2019 to 2022, I lived in the Pacific

time zone. which is three hours behind the Eastern

time zone, which, okay, fine, whatever. But then

you get into the mountain stuff and the central

time zone is the worst. Don't even get me started

on that. I don't want to get into that rant.

But yeah, no, coming back here to the Eastern

time zone from Washington to Indiana, it's like,

it's midnight. I should be asleep. I'm getting

too old for this shit. There you go. That is

probably the most - There's never a podcast that

does not go by where you haven't said that. When

blade Well, that's part of transformers. Yeah

Nicole and I didn't we used to do my little pony

we did my little pony we did Dave We did a few

other comic oh we did um, oh, what was that?

The demon one Teddy. Oh, what was his freaking

name? That was awesome. I forgot about that.

We did Kennel Block Blues. Oh yeah. I remember

that one. That was pretty good too. And then

Heather and I just started up doing Livio's The

Kill Lock. So Artisan Wraith is out in trade

now. So that'll be coming later this year in

the podcast. That was a good series. That first

series was amazing. You guys can listen to me

and Heather talk about that first series on whatever

episode it's on. I'm sure I'll have it linked

in the show notes somewhere. Much sibling. Yeah.

Yeah. It's so, so good. But yeah, I mean, we've

always had fun. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Yes. Yes. Pretty

much so. I remember the one podcast we were doing,

we were talking so much. I'm like, I have to

go to work. I was actually like two minutes late

to work. I kept my computer running because we

were having so much fun talking. I'm like, do

I call in six so I can have just to stay with

my friends? I'm like, I really got to run to

work, so I just kept my computer on. I'm like,

I really hope this works because for people that

don't know, I work at 1 a .m. and I had to leave

my house. No later than 1230 to make it there

on time. And so I'm like, okay, guys, I've got

to run, finish it up. That was the crazy day

I remember. I was just like, I can't believe

Nicole's just like trying to type on her computer.

Yeah. So we were like, well, it was like, um,

yeah. Cause we were talking like for four hours.

I don't even remember which episode that is.

I haven't written down somewhere. Hadn't we finish

it up and then, like, we were just... No, we

were still... Okay, gotcha. No, we were still...

The good thing is, you didn't lose your job,

right? That's the happy ending. No, she's still

there. Okay, go. Are you kidding me with the

overabundance of hours that she puts in? That

job would be dead without her. Probably. The

reason is, we're 800 people short, so... people.

If you need a job and you're in the Salt Lake

area, come find me. Yeah, that was a fun memory.

Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, I do remember one time

recording while I was driving. I was tapped into

just my Bluetooth headphones and microphone.

So there's been a lot of crazy behind -the -scenes

stuff, people. It's been awesome. We said random.

We weren't kidding. Yes, it's very, very, very

random around here. And it's been, man, like

everything we've covered, like there have obviously

been things that we didn't like about certain

comics and certain things, but in general, we've

really enjoyed most of it. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I

mean, even if we didn't give the love, you know,

we still had fun ripping it apart. Part of darkness

will never. I don't even think we've covered

that. I don't think we ever did. We talked about

it, but we couldn't. We're like, maybe we should

cut all this out because we're not seeing anything

positive. Nope. Nope. I'm not saying anything.

Like, I think, I think we cut it out. That's

why I think it was more like we didn't like officially.

It was more like it got brought up. I don't think

I would do it a second time. I, I, I reviewed

that on the underbase with Mikey. That is like

guatamano torture. You don't do that. You don't

make people read that twice, okay? Once was enough,

thank you very much. Though I've, for the last

like couple years, I've had this nagging thought

like, if I were to go back and read Heart of

Darkness, would it? be better or more interesting

than I remember. Kind of like earlier when we

were talking about revenge. And I'm like, what

if it's at least interesting though? I think

the thing is, is that the reason why we actually

think better of Revenge of the Fallen has something

to do with the fact that we've gotten three more

after that that progressively in some ways got

worse. Is there a worse comic after Heart of

Darkness? I'm not quite sure because I stopped

reading at some point. I don't know if I want

to go there and find out. I don't know if I want

to find out. Maybe it's enough that we already

have one and that's good enough for me. I'm with

you. For half a second, I thought Andy grabbed

somebody and revisited it. in the most recent

episode of Moonbase that was released on February

25th, but it's a Marvel Hearts of Darkness thing.

I was like, wait a minute, that's not right.

He said it because he wanted to bring torture

to Mikey. No, it's it's with Paul. Yeah, it's

with Paul. Oh, OK. All right. OK. Yeah. Might

as well torture somebody else if Mikey's not

there. Paul likes to be tortured. That's the

thing. Come on. He's the one that sent out a

naked picture with Unicron covering his junk.

Oh my God. Do not say that! Not on the podcast!

It's out there, people! It's out there! As well

as Paul's stuff is out there! That photo will

not be in the show notes! Please, God, no. Do

not go to geekcastradio .com and try to... Oh,

God! Yeah, he used it as a Christmas card. Oh,

my... So wait a minute wait wait wait you mean

to tell me that unicorn has been reduced to a

jingle ball So it wasn't completely covered because

he actually moved it when he took the picture

so there's actually two Well, we did start about

Revenge of the Fallen. Oh my gosh, I love you

guys so much. I don't know how to recover from

this. We need to take a break here. We've got

to keep up with the tradition of derailing the

podcast As Billy Bob said when he came out of

the strip club, it's a tan it's a fucking tan

I think my headphones are burning. It's a good

thing I have another pair still in the package

behind me, but like flames, flames on the side

of my ears. Oh, comics. Oh yeah, that's what

we were talking about. So comic books. Transformers

and Jim and I don't know what else. And derailing

podcasts. Oh my. Ladies and gentlemen, I promise

the rest of the episode will be much calmer than

this. He can't really promise that, to be honest.

Yes, I can. This is the last clip I need to record.

Yes, I can. I listen to your podcasts. I know

who you work with. They're not always sunshine

and rainbows. I mean, yeah, well, not all of

them because most of the time the audio editor

sucks at his job, but that's, that's, you know.

Guy loses two podcasts for six years. You don't

know how the hell can you trust him? Oh god.

Anyway. Brutal. I'm talking about myself here.

It's okay. I know, I know. Oh god. Heather, you're

awfully silent over there. I know. I'm silent

because true facts. For the first 30 minutes

of the Unicron conversation, I was thinking it

was a picture of naked Unicron covering his own

junk. You know, the, with the way my works, I

was reminded of a, I saw today when I went, Oh

wait, I should go check Twitter. I'm going to

TF con about. Jack Lawrence being like, what

prints should I bring you guys? Do you want me

to bring the Drachet one? And somebody replies,

I think I need the Drachet pick for historical

purposes. And I was like, you know, that's actually

valid. I have like, Transformers making out Buchanan.

Wow. That's where my brain went. It just kind

of went here. I love you guys so much. I wish

I didn't work my whole life away so I could talk

to you guys Yes, well there are plans and the

plans better work out yeah, so You know that

meme on Facebook and Twitter and everything else

folks where it's you know the car on the highway

and then somehow These three get in the other

car and then just like went Just completely off

exit 10. Like I said, you shouldn't promise that,

you know, this is the last we're gonna, no, no,

no. Here, hold my beer. Holy crap, this is awesome.

So we're just kind of like waiting for somebody

to be the adult in this situation and since none

of us is qualified to adult Maybe Amy Come on

you've hung out with Amy That's not necessarily

true. In all fairness, Amy's probably the most

adult of us, but don't let that sweet innocent

look fool you. Meanwhile, my kids are old enough

now that they're like, Mom, one of our favorite

things about you is that you're still a silly

kid. And I love them and I'm like success They're

most likely to be the the well -adjusted adults

that you hope that they will be one day No crazy

All right kids I turn into a pumpkin in about

15 minutes Man, wow. So yeah, comics, is that

what we're here for? Cold start right there.

Comics, yeah, we're here for the comics. We're

here for the comedians, too. Really good times.

It is. Hopefully the times won't stop. We'll

be here in another decade. That's the one thing

I did learn about this podcast. You can make

anything 50 % better by including a Yeti. Yeah,

absolutely. I disagree. Yetis. What? You heard

me. Are you racist against the white Bigfoot?

Ladies and gentlemen, I just want to remind you

that the GeekCast Radio Network has and will

always be explicit from 2009 to current year.

And it's mainly for innuendo or just plain, flat,

strange ass sentences like that. I love you.

This is not what I was expecting. I was not expecting

things to be - No, this is what happens when

you come into a podcast without a plan. No, no,

no. I know. What? I told you - You didn't tell

us anything. You just said you were going to

record something. That's not - Now you're just

being a bald -faced liar. Stop doing that. I'm

a liar now. That's not - I said we were going

to talk about - The experiences that we've had

on the... 20 years. Wow, you're really aging.

Wow. I don't think this podcast can last another

10 years now. We're aging like fine wine. Fine

wine, my ass. I'm aging like spoiled milk. That's

what I'm aging like. My toes are going to curl

up like the Wicked Witch of the West and just

fly right under the house. That's like a very

vivid mental image. Gosh, that is beautiful.

I'd say mission accomplished tonight. That's

what you're doing to me, folks. Okay. So Heather's

about to turn into a pumpkin. So let's go around

the room. Final thoughts. You're all. Involvement

with the pull bag over the last 10 years Nicole

go first, please. Oh my goodness Okay, so let's

say my involvement. I've done several like said

different comic books Dave was awesome. Love

Dave. I totally forgot about the candle one.

That was awesome. Yeah, but I just like I said,

my favorite memories are just sitting and talking

to my buddies about geeky stuff and Just having

an overall good time. And of course, I love pushing

everyone's buttons, especially Mike's, because

his buttons are really, really loose. So it doesn't

take a whole lot to push them. I don't even have

a board with buttons. I just have a Megatron

button. Do you know what kind of buttons Mike

is? You know, like those cowboy shirts with a

nice pearlescent, they just like snap because

that's what Mike does. He just snaps. I feel

my eye is starting to twitch. So yes. Thank you

for 10 years of laughing, laughing and bringing

community and being able to geek out. Thank you,

Mike. I appreciate it. Yeah. Awesome. Here, here.

I agree. That's it? Okay, Heather, you go next.

Oh, man. And it's like, not Oh, man. Oh, darn.

I don't even know. Okay. Oh, shit. What are we

gonna do now? But you know that feeling where

you're like, About to take a test and your whole

brain has fallen out in exactly I'm like, I don't

remember what I heckin did on this podcast. I

mean, it was fun. I got to talk about stuff I

care about got to go off and make people laugh,

which is fun. I like you guys Stokes my little

like snooty pride self to be like I was on a

podcast we got to talk to people and be a nerd

and like we all like to think that we're important

people were listening to me talk times they even

laughed at it It's just a matter of other people

laugh. I'm laughing and that's what matters,

right? Exactly. You guys are the ones that matter

because, like, I know you. And not only that,

we still hang out after all these years. Exactly.

Yeah, we were saying before we started and I

will reiterate it because it's important to me

gosh dang it But one of the coolest things about

being part of a fandom is making I was I have

made you guys are the best friends I've ever

had, you know You and some other people that

I've just met through being nerds and I'm like

for over a decade and we're still in touch. This

never happens to me. I love it. Amen. I have

the same. I agree. I've done the same. So yeah.

Yeah. I'm also conscious about doing weird voices

now because my daughter's been like, do weird

voices. Mom, they're funny. And I'm like, I forget

that I do them. It's not like voluntary. A random

thing I just pull out. It's just the voices in

my head coming out. In your case, that's very

scary. No, that's just normal for her. I have

a lot of time to think on my job because I'm

not allowed to talk. So yeah, the voice is what's

in the company. She's hitting the mute button.

That out of context, I'm not allowed to talk.

Damn, we went there. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh,

I love you guys so much. The best thing is, folks,

Nicole says they always press my buttons, which

they do, but the best thing is half the time,

I don't have to say a goddamn thing. They just

get themselves in trouble. That's our job. We've

studied for years. Hey, I'm not just putting

this out there. If you guys are ever lonely,

any D three road trip and buddies, the angels

can entertain you and we'll put Mike on the phone.

Just like possibly. Yeah. Pretty much. Pretty

much. Pretty much. Amy, final thoughts. Oh goodness.

I don't know if you want my final thoughts. There

can't be anything worse than what we've already

heard. True, but we can take this to a whole

other level and I just don't want to. Oh, come

on. I triple dog dare you. Yeah. Derail, derail,

derail. More derailment, more derailment. There

you go. No, no, I think, yeah. We're still doing

this years later, just because it is fun. And

you know what? Who cares if anybody's listening

in? I'm having a blast. It's great. We're having

a good time. Also, there are those times where

you get really passionate about, you know, what

you're going to say. And, you know, sometimes

you have to just, you know, do it. And that's

that's how it goes. Things need to be said, then

things need to be said. I hope that anybody that's

had a chance to tune in and listen, have learned

a few things about storytelling, what to do,

what not to do, the stuff that's really great,

you know, the stuff that you shouldn't never

forget, because there's some pretty epic moments

over the years that, you know, have been like,

yeah, this is really good, like, really good.

And like, yeah, we're all in agreement about

that. So, yeah, so I've had some, yeah. That's

been fun. This has been a blast. And I fully

intend to probably be available for the next

decade. And thank you, Mike, for bringing us

together for 10 years. Yeah. Awesome. And there's

that too. I mean, this is how we started. I don't

know if I ever was on a podcast with Heather

before Mike. So. I probably... Can't remember

if we ever were on the underbase together or

not. I think eventually I had you on, but I think

it was after I had talked with you here on this

on... Oh yeah. on this one. Good job remembering.

My brain is mush. I don't remember. I'm not actually

certain on that. I'm sure somebody out there

one of these days will listen to all of them

and say, no, no, no. You're wrong. If we put

something out on the internet, there will be

someone willing to tell us we are wrong. Very

true. Absolutely. The internet exists for this

purpose. And then all I can think of is this

is your brain. This is your brain on my podcast.

Like a cracked egg. Just you. It's all you Mike.

It's not a crack date, it's just crack. Cocaine

bear, man. No, deny, deny. I don't care if it's

a true story from Massachusetts or wherever the

hell it's from. Don't care. That is going to,

I'm going to say this right now. That is going

to be my most overrated thing for 2023. I don't

give a crap about that. Oh my God. Oh, I can

just barely overrated. Come on. It's just that

the thing is everywhere. It's literally everywhere.

It's just like the clap. It's everywhere, but

it will go away eventually with medication. Damn.

I hope that this sets off like random animals

being, you know, paired up with different drugs.

It's funny you mentioned that. Crack -a -dile,

you know I did not come up with it, so I'm gonna

say this right now. One of the guys that I follow

on Twitter came up with that, and I was like,

oh my gosh, this is the next franchise of, you

know, Sharknado is gonna be - No, I just came

up with one! I just came up with - I just came

up with animals! Methmoth! Methmoth! Oh my god.

I'm trying to figure out a way to get those dogs

that if you lick them, they're hallucinogenic.

A cuttlefish on LSD. Cuttlefish. Oh God. I'm

sending you all an Instagram post in our Facebook

chat. So everybody go look at that because all

this talk about this cocaine bear and this movie

and this live action story. One of the guys that

I know with those concepts, heroin bear, and

it's basically a skinnier white version of the

Coca -Cola polar bear. Oh my gosh. Oh, God. All

right. Heroin horses. We're basically the astrotrain

of the podcast because we always are going off

the rails. Yep. There's a pun for you. No pun

for you. Come back. All right, folks. You come

back. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, God. No pun for you. Yeah.

All right. We got to get Heather to bathe. Yeah,

we got to get Heather. She's still a teenager

and she has a bedtime. Yes. All right. Let's

go around the room really quick. Nicole, where

can people find you on social media if you're

still on social media? Oh, man. I'm somewhat

on it. Just search Beatles Diva. Beatles like

the band, not the bug. That's pretty much me.

Just Google it. I don't think there's another

one out there. If there is, I'm coming after

you. I'm coming after them because apparently

she's got good taste. Hello? Heather, what about

you? I'm still hockey prime everywhere, but I'm

also very bad lately at being on the internet.

Amy? Uh, Lady of Rec, or Lady Rec. I'm on Twitter,

I'm on Facebook, I'm all over the place, I'm

also on that new, what is it, Harry Macedon,

whatever the heck that is. Harry Macedon! That's

his name. I'm more on Twitter than anywhere else,

but you know, it's slowly dying, it's death throes,

which is kind of amusing, so I've been kind of

watching. Hasn't it been dying since 2014? Just

because a billionaire bought it doesn't mean

it's not any worse of a cesspool than it already

was. Well, it was a much better place until Muskrat

took over. I go on Twitter to go look at the

hockey dogs of the NHL. That's basically why

I go on Twitter. That's extremely wholesome and

I applaud. And on that wholesome note, we'll

be right back right after this with a much calmer

conversation with JT from Saskatoon. Well, it's

the last time. I'm not working with you guys

anymore. What? What are you talking about? You

can't quit. The Justice League needs Batman.

Forget it. Batman is dead. All right, continuing

on in the 10 -year journey of the Pole Bag, we

just finished up with the wrecking crew of myself

and Amy, Nicole, and Heather. Now I welcome in

somebody who has some really really weird comic

tastes, but he likes DC too. So there is that

Long time friend of the show long time co -hosts

long time long time. Whatever ten years or more

It's JT from Saskatoon. Hello, sir Hello, and

just because I have a complete collection of

mad balls comics doesn't make me a weirdo No,

it's probably all the other stuff you talked

about in your comic origin episode way back in

episode five If it was comics, I probably gave

it a try. There was probably some stuff that

I shouldn't have read as a kid in my voice I'm

getting over swollen tonsils folks Okay. Well,

I did not make him do this folks. There's I don't

know what it is. It seems I made the choice I

know I understand you made the choice, but I

just wanted to be clear to the audience that

In my 15 years of podcasting, apparently I end

up recording with people who are sick all of

the time and people assume that I force them

into forced labor of talking. I'm not just mentally

sick either. Hi, all. Wow. You said it, not me.

So at least you're admitting to your own mental

issues. You don't want to see that laundry list

of defects. We're Nickelback fans. Of course

we have mental issues. Da da da da da da da da.

Okay, Statler. Right back at you Waldorf. Oh

boy. So your history with this show we started

with superior spider -man Yeah, that sounds about

right. Yeah, we started with superior spider

-man We eventually went on to Batman Beyond have

we done other things We did superior iron man

with Ryan at one point or another Yeah, we've

dabbled but it's mainly been you and me and Terry

Yeah, pretty much. For the most part. For the

most part, yeah. Jesus, how long has it been?

Well, it's been 10 years of the podcast since

we started. I think we started. Yeah, it's just

like, wow, the summer Avengers came out, or the

year after Avengers came out, 2013. Yeah, 2013

is when the show actually fully started. But

yeah. I've had a lot of crap since then. Haven't

we all? Well, I mean, and one of the things that

has kind of become my passion project of sorts

the last couple of years, especially since COVID,

is going back into bad overwrought crossovers

and figuring out a proper reading list and cutting

all the wheat from the chaff, all the fat from

the meat. Kind of thing Pardon me. Yeah, very

good example of that is the secret wars from

2015 There's literally only one of the extent

mini series that came out That you need to read

aside from the core series and that was the Thor

core Okay, so try saying that five times facts

fast when you have golf balls in your in your

throat not at this For those that don't remember,

Secret Wars is essentially the Marvel multiverse

came to a fiery end. Doctor Doom saved what's

left and created a police force out of every

variant of Thor from across the multiverse. And

it's a murder mystery about who killed one of

their own. And this is all kind of takes place

just before the core Secret Wars. So you can

read it, you can ignore it. And it's stuff like

that that I've been working on. I've also figured

out reading orders for, and I mean, proper story

chronological reading orders for the DC Masters

of the Universe from the last 10 years, the IDW

Ninja Turtles, the 15 year long run of the IDW

Transformers. Yep. And I just. You know, just

now and again, talking comics with Mike, it's

been a lot of fun. Yeah, it has been a lot of

fun as always Your first start was I know when

we first started doing it specifically all the

time was the 2015 brave new world that that series

but your first episode was Batman Beyond Justice

Lords Beyond that was May of 2015 Mm -hmm very

first episode overall with Geek cast was uh Johnny

bravo with uh, oh, yeah way back in the day.

Yep Yeah, those those were the days trust me

folks they were we were younger men then yeah,

we were younger we were More opinionated if you

can believe it Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, like

but I would say batman and mike would say fucking

oswalt That's because you love Brave and the

Bold and I, that's just not my, it's just not

my Batman. It's just, it's harkening back to

all the Silver Age, and that's awesome for those

Silver Age fans out there, but every time I heard

his voice at the time, all's I could think of

is fucking Oswald from the Drew Carey show. Cause

that's who Dedric Bader was. But you know, in

years since I don't, I don't always bring out

the fucking Oswald. So but yeah, we've done Batman

Beyond pretty much up until current We're about

to and I think it's next week or over the next

two weeks. We're about to Go through the six

-issue miniseries Question mark. I think series.

Okay. Yeah, that's what I thought was Yeah for

Batman Beyond Neo year, which I did not know

and you'll tell me once we get to that episode

but at the time like Okay, it's a miniseries.

Okay, this is kind of cool. Okay. Okay. Okay,

and then I realized oh shit. It came out of Futures

End Which I don't think I ever read the Batman

Beyond Futures End thing other than the fact

that Bruce died and Terry had to Go back to the

past. That's all I know like I don't even remember

Yeah, you actually a little bit of incorrect

ability there the Futures End Batman was Tim

Drake. Right. Remember because of the weird post

-apocalyptic Brother Eye terminators. Right.

Coming for everybody. Tim Drake goes to the future.

And pardon me. Gotham City is one of the few

bastions of humanity left. And by the end of

that series, he's rescued Terry and he gets flashed

out of existence. And that's largely due to the

machinations of Doc. Manhattan Dr. Manhattan.

Yeah, because they were still dealing with why

the new 52 happened and who futzed with time

Yeah, I'm just trying to see on here on this

DC database because that's where I like I thought

at one point I saw on here where they're like,

yeah Neo year is kind of futures in too and I'm

like doesn't seem to be And we'll get into in

the episode. Yeah, well really isn't sadly and

more than anything like Colin Kelly and Jackson

Lansing who wrote it and I love the series Don't

get me wrong like straight out. It's a solid

10 for writing. I Thought this was a Dan Juergens.

I didn't even look at the writers when I read

the series the first time Oh I did because I

had I was curious to see if it was Dan or if

it was somebody else and And yeah, so ten years

of the pullback, what memories do you have, sir?

Honestly, it's just nice to get together with

like -minded people and talk about comics in

a constructive, somewhat environment where personal

politics rarely ever came into it. You could

just talk to somebody about what you liked and

didn't like about comics because You honestly

can't have that a lot of times nowadays in some

places Yeah, you know and it's not that you have

to find a group of like if you don't like a comic

book Like Batman Beyond Neo year. I'll have a

conversation if you're willing to have the conversation

not these people that you know it's like the

Karen's and that cat meme yeah you know the one

I'm talking about yes yes yes you know it's there's

always some Karen trying to shout their opinion

over you and you're just sitting there with like

that look of the cat and just like that's fine

mm -hmm sort of thing and I mean I like I said

I don't remember most of the stuff that we've

talked about It's not because I forgot it's just

literally we've talked about so much Yeah, I've

what I've taken from the show is like I said

There are people have opinions contrary to my

own and that's okay Mm -hmm. You know if you

can You can have different opinions. You just

got to remember Like have a conversation don't

yeah don't treat somebody as if they're the enemy

and they're trying to ruin your life which so

many you know religion politics sports teams

oh my the ways some conversations i've seen and

been a part of how people lose their shit because

you agreed with me you're evil yes you know exactly

it's they did in the comics i mean green lanterns

and yellow lanterns work together and they didn't

Tear each other to piece for a while before it

all fell apart. I mean it can work Can work until

you have that one asshole like Sinestro come

up and just be a douche Sinestro's fault if I

recall but that's a discussion for another day

and Yeah, I mean, you and I have kind of always,

you know, we haven't needed to learn the hard

way. We've kind of always, you know, stood together

and and lived on the edge of the revolution that

is Batman Beyond. And and see what I did there,

folks? Nobody's going to get that. Nobody's going

to get those words. I'm giving you the Bill Hader.

I see what you did here. It's it's all the right

reasons folks to be listening to the pull bag

here in 2023 ten years of our show and yeah,

no, this has been Absolutely hilarious. And again,

that's why we record like I've gone back and

I haven't I haven't listened a lot of the stuff

But I've gone back and I've listened to several

of it. Like I remember again that For me with

Batman Beyond. Yes, I do want to see Terry stories

and I want to see various things with him, but

when we hit that 2015 series with brave new world

or whatever it was where it was Tim in the few

I was like, oh Okay, cool. I like Tim Drake old

Tim Drake as you know Batman Beyond that's that's

a cool premise and then they did city of yesterday

which is obviously a play on city of tomorrow

with metropolis and everything else and it's

just been so so so fun and I Yeah, like I love

alternate future alternate takes on comics of

as bad as futures and was I did dig the whole

what if Skynet happened in the DC universe of

it all and That was the weird thing is Mike if

you didn't know that was actually intended to

be the legit future of the new 52 Until people

came to their senses and realized it made no

fucking sense story telling wise. Yeah So we

would have had a future where John Constantine

is trapped on a desert island haunted by the

ghosts of his past friends or Grifter from the

Wildcats at the first time they were making that

big push to bring the wild storm characters into

DC was like one of the main forces fighting against

Brother Eye, which, you know, it's a lot of fun,

but it's so bad. Yeah, it's yeah. Where I kind

of drew the line with the new 52 stuff was characters.

I'm always about characters. I read several of

Scott Snyder's runs on Batman, and we've covered

several of them. We haven't covered them all.

Not that I want to cover them all, but we've

covered some of them. For me, it was Batgirl

and Nightwing. It was those two characters that...

That's kind of where my new 52 kind of begins

and ends because I haven't gotten into any of

the other See the big thing for me with the new

52 Was as I love Superman Superman's one of my

top ten top five all -time favorite comic book

characters But aside like I didn't mind the new

52 suit. I really kind of dug that design like

I prefer the red swim trunks, but whatever. Right.

But aside from the Grant Morrison run and a couple

of like two or three issue stories here and there,

there isn't a lot there that I want to go back

and reread. Whereas the Green Lanterns, The Flash,

Justice League, and most of the Batman stuff,

I will read that all day long and twice on Sundays.

Because that was some I think well, it wasn't

the best it was Legit I think it was legitimately

entertaining if you're a comic book fan on a

certain level and The new 52 overall because

Jim Lee was like a big part of it and he was

part of the image revolution in the 90s There

was this slathering of 90s esque comic books,

you know grim and gritty stuff overwrought violence.

They tried to make the authority or storm watch

slash authority work within the DC universe before

they just kind of blip them out of existence

and then recently brought them back in in the

last few years. You know, it's like I said on

the show before, like the 90s was another silver

age. It was a time of reinvention and experimentation.

in it amongst all the grim dark and the violence.

But the new 52 overall, there was a lot of good

stuff. I think there was more slightly more good

than bad. And that's even to look at, you know,

at Marvel at the time, like Marvel's two Marvel's

two biggest mistakes in the last in the time

we've been doing the show, I think, is this preponderance,

this constantly rebooting titles with new number

ones. Less than three years like that specifically

with spider -man happens way too often. Yeah

Then there's storylines like the Avengers They're

coming up on 60 some issues and they are going

to be starting with a new number one in a few

months But that's a good five -year run before

a new number one. I think that's all right. Plus

it's you know, the Jason Aaron Avengers where

this is like the first time the Avengers have

truly become like a Justice League -esque team.

I mean their headquarters is the hollowed out

body of a celestial in the North Pole and one

of their members is the Robbie Reyes ghostwriter

who can literally turn any vehicle into a hell

charged vehicle and I love that. Wow. So let

me ask you, this Avengers team that you're talking

about, is Thor on it? Well Thor was on it But

I'm saying the Jason Aaron run that have the

base in the North Pole is Thor on that team Whether

he's left now. Okay. Well, he was originally

there in the beginning and this was post him

getting over himself and believing himself to

be worthy and then not actually having Mjolnir

for a while and you just had like a successive

series of hammers and that was covered in the

Thor stories. The first lineup was Doctor Strange,

Captain America, Iron Man, Carol Danvers, Captain

Marvel, Black Panther, Ghost Rider, Thor, and

that was like the team for the longest time.

I mean, they had some great stories in there.

There was Robbie gets sucked down into hell and

challenged to a race by Johnny blaze who was

king of hell because Mephisto had been caged

on earth because of some bullshit and one doctor

strange storyline you had They brought back the

the night mask and star brand Ideas and characters

from an earlier run by a believe hit Robert was

it Jonathan Hickman brought him up in his years

long run prior to secret wars where he took these

concepts from that old new universe that Marvel

had and turned them into like cosmic level concepts

ingrained into protecting earth and that's just

Marvel like that's just Avengers like Marvel's

had a lot of good stories like what they did

with Iron Man with him like with the second Civil

War and I Perlmutter's attempt to make the To

make the inhumans fetch. Oh Jesus and you can't

make the fetch happen Ike No, no And do you know

how that what the reason are actually you might

know but a letter listeners know A few years

ago when I Perlmutter was still in charge of

both Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios For to

a large degree. He tried to make the inhumans

happen There was like a four or five year run

where all of a sudden there was like three different

inhumans titles And they were in every conceivable

storyline. I remember that yeah every other storyline

had an inhuman involved because I didn't like

the fact that Fox which hadn't been bought by

Disney yet was not giving them as much money

as he felt they deserved to get from the X -Men

movie franchise. So he tried to shuffle them

off into the cornfield and make the inhumans

happen. That didn't really work out in the long

run. JT likes that is not here in this podcast

and circling back around to the Thor thing The

reason why I asked you if Thor was in it. I'm

gonna ask you a second question Does he have

a beard? Because Thor on the Avengers and they're

based at the North Pole Thor is Santa Claus Well,

he did have a beard for a time but it eventually

shaved it off and bastard yeah, and the current

storyline Thor it's Jane isn't it well no Jane

because of the war of the realms crossover a

couple years ago Jane had lost her hammer like

she lost Mjolnir but she got this new weapon

called the all weapon which is a reformed version

of the Mjolnir from the ultimate comics universe,

which is earth 1610 and she's now a full -fledged

Valkyrie like Shepherding lost souls to the afterlife

and dealing with other supernatural BS on earth.

She's part of the Avengers right now T 'Challa

was chairman of the Avengers and because of story

storyline in his title. He's been voted out and

Currently, the Avengers are fighting the multiversal

masters of doom, which are led by the worst versions

of certain Marvel villains. There's a dark phoenix,

which is this psychotic evil Jean Grey, who has

the berserker, which is this Wolverine Logan

with doomsday -style spikes of adamantium jutting

out of his skin. She just lets him off the chain

and he goes wild. There's a kid Thanos, which

is Young Thanos from the 16 or 616 universe,

but just given access to his modern -day adult

forms weapons There's King Killmonger where Killmonger

has killed Asgard and inserted his soul into

the destroyer armor There is the black skull.

What if red skull got the venom symbiote? There's

ghost goblin. What if Norman Osborn got a spirit

of vengeance and leading this whole McGillicuddy

is the Doom of Dooms, a Sorcerer Supreme version

of Dr. Doom who is so much worse than anyone

has any idea for. Like his headquarters isn't

the country of Latveria, he's taken a version

of Ego the Living Planet and turned it into Planet

Doom. Wow. Yikes. I mean there's so much other

like the stuff in X -Men if you've read that

at all where they're every mutant in the history

of Marvel Universe is alive again and living

on the island of Krakoa because the X -Men have

cloning and memory copying technologies that

have existed since the early days of the blue

and gold costumes. Yeah, Ryan and I covered powers

and house and powers of X I can't wait to figure

out how that all falls apart There is no way

that's gonna last beyond the next couple of years

like no way. Yeah, there's probably not a way

at all yeah but i mean that's part of the hook

for me is you you've got like you look at some

of the ultra violent mutant liberation front

characters from the 90s they're living on this

island and having a drink at the blobs bar and

you know they'll give wolverine the finger when

he walks by but that's it like how do any of

these clashing personalities live in the same

freaking zip code and they haven't nuked each

other yet It's because they've all been flexed

with because of Xavier Yeah, but we'll find out

apparently there's a storyline coming up in the

next year that they're going to like like I said

folks I love comics. I love good comics. I love

bad comics if it's an interesting story I will

give it a chance and I will tell you whether

or not I liked it or not But I'm not gonna browbeat

somebody into not reading something if I don't

like it. Yeah Yeah, absolutely like that's the

same way I am where it's like I'll ask like I'll

say to somebody hey I just read this have you

read it if you like it let's do an episode about

it or let's start doing let's start covering

it or whatever else but half the time as I've

said on this episode and probably many other

times I'm not wasting my time on things I don't

like I'm just not going to do it so And the stuff

that JT doesn't get to cover on this show he

has his own show Sunday funnies Sunday funnies

with Mike Ashquay on the this week in geek and

I also do comic connoisseurs with Ben Carver

We've taken a bit of a break the last couple

of months because life gets in the way Yeah,

and yeah me talking about comics on the internet.

What a novel idea What a concept All right any

other final words before I either throw to the

next clip or throw to myself closing this thing

out You're never too old to read comics, but

you might not be able to afford them Oh, no,

nobody can afford them anymore. I mean five dollars

for one regular issue of spider -man. It's insane

I'm old enough to remember when dollars when

it was only a buck or a buck and a quarter for

an issue of spider -man and Justice League and

I know people who are old enough to remember

when all of that stuff was like 75 cents I Know

people that know people that know people folks

so 10 years of the poll bag, who knows if we're

gonna have 10 more years considering a certain

giant company that everyone is very primed to

use is basically, there's a rumor that they are

going to fully destroy Comixology this October

in 2023, and I'm going to hate them for it, because

that's just dumb. Because Kindle Comics is not.

good replacement for what comics ology is and

was So I'm gonna say that every time folks every

one of these clips in this episode. Sorry about

your luck, but I'm Going to beat a dead horse

when it comes to that What's that? Mike Blanchard

beating a dead horse news at 11? Hey Wilbur Get

your shit together, mr. Ed All right, folks.

We'll catch you in the next clip. Or like I said,

it might be me closing this episode. I don't

know what's going on. We'll be back right after

this. Hey, welcome to The Last Comic Shop Podcast.

Rock dudes! Do you realize what this is? The

crucial piece of evidence we were looking for?

The clue which will lead us to the heart of the

evil ninja empire? Not even better! It's a place

where we can get some pizza! Right on! Okay,

I'll head up there and check it out. No, no,

April. It's too dangerous. You wouldn't last

five minutes in a ninja pizza parlor. I love

saying lines like that. We better go with you,

April. That's right. Besides, we're hungry. All

right, folks. I am back. TF2 and Mike here inside

10 years of The Pull Bag. This is episode 511,

as I've said so far in the other four clips in

this episode. This is going to be a long one,

folks. I mean, how the hell can we cram 10 years

of content into one hour or more? Anyway. Said

at the end of JT's and mine's clip that I wasn't

sure if I was gonna be coming back by myself

I was gonna bring other people and of course,

how could I leave out? My pizza dude my guy who

basically and I tell this story all the time

and he knows this whatever else I remember back

in When the hell was this so it was January of

2014 My god, yeah Yeah. Yeah, my god. By the

way, Joe Reed is here. Hey, everybody. Hello.

Yes, Joe is here. We are back. We are not. We

will be continuing on in the reborn era of turtles,

but that's not what this is right now. But yeah,

I remember you telling me about the IDW books,

and you showed me the first. I think it was either

the first issue or the first trade, and I'm like.

I basically put my hand out as a stop sign. Full

stop. Red bandanas. No, no, no, no, no. You're

like, no, it's good. Don't worry about it. It's

fine. I knew it was coming. Well, you knew it

was coming because you'd already read ahead,

and that's fine. But like, I just, I'm cartoon

turtles. I was never, to this day, I have never

actively read the stories that Eastman and Laird

created. You know as mirage comics with the original

turtles with like the closest thing I've gotten

to the original Creation that they did was turtles

forever. That's the closest I don't know totally

honest I think the first the closest most people

can get to the mirage without reading the mirage

is the first movie I think that really that was

really really close. Yeah But I mean at least

in turtles forever. They actually go to the comic

universe They are actually in the black and white

designs that you know what I mean that that's

what I mean like the closest as far as like the

look of it and You said to me you said don't

don't worry about the red bandana as it makes

sense it works out. It's okay. I'm like, okay

And we went forth and we have been doing Turtles.

Your comics origin episode was September 4th

of 2013. And then we started volume one, like

I said, in January. What are your just memories

of the podcast overall or whether doing the show

or if you ever listened to it at all when you

weren't on it or anything like that? Like what

are some of your memories of the pull bag? I've

got to be honest. I barely remember it and you

say 2014 like that was I was a different person

back then I I don't I don't listen to the podcasts

that I record a second time I I you know like

everybody you don't like the sound of your own

voice and I don't know how you guys put up with

it but you're putting up with it and I thank

you for it but but I can't I can't do it my wife

may have listened to an episode or two but It's

been super special. I think that the biggest

memories for me have been coming from like you

and I are doing this and I'm a nerd in my basement

surrounded by toys and I'm just I'm a nobody

right and and I'm alone in here and Nobody knows

who I am when I walk around but you and I have

been absolutely blessed to like interview the

editor of the comic interview the writer of the

comic and I've been able to reach out to artists

and creators and mention the podcast and Somebody

at IDW listens to us because they've put us on

a cover or two Yeah, so as of this recording

even though this is not actually gonna air until

March 6th of 2023 because that is the full date

that I started the show Yeah, as of today, January,

not January, what the hell am I talking about?

January, February 18th, 2016, seven years ago

to the day. Like you said, somebody must have

been listening to it because on issue 55, if

you have ever been a TMNT fan, you need to check

this out. Dash geek cast radio. That's my podcast.

I've walked into comic book stores and I've bought

that issue because I didn't have this cover and

I'm like, that's my podcast right there. I'm

a co -host on that. The dude behind the counter

is like, okay, whatever. But they're like, no,

that's sweet. It buys us so much cred. I think

I've been able to reach out to some of the artists

and point to that issue and say, no, no, we're

legit. We're not. Because we are. I think we

do. And we take the comic seriously. I think

we both take the property seriously, and I appreciate

that. When we talk about the things or when we

interview those writers and editors, it's not

like we're not the guys saying, who's your favorite

turtle? And we intellectually dismantle it. And

I like that. I'm a big fan of how we look at

things. Well, yeah. And then the thing with us

is like we've Lid I mean, I know a lot of other

friends of mine as well who are die -hard turtle

fans Just just as much as we are but like we

grew up with this stuff. It has followed us for

oh god Okay, so if you technically count obviously

counts not saying it doesn't count But if you

count when the comic when they first started

when they first published number one Next year

is 40 years of the franchise starting at Mirage.

Obviously 1987 will be 40 years, 2027 will be

40 years with the cartoon. Yeah, we're not always

asking who's your favorite turtle or who's this

or who's that we know But like I think some of

that has to work like the conversations we've

had with Bobby the conversation we got to have

with Tom Of course, we're going to ask that question,

but we're also going to ask more in depth, like

why was this story beat done? Why was, you know,

why reincarnation? Why, you know, what kind of

metaphysical outward bound essential astroplaning

thing, you know, but it works like it absolutely

works. And yeah, I can probably count on my left

hand. How many episodes we have like really like

Nothing in the IDW run of Turtles, we're still

doing it. Nothing has, we may dislike a few things.

We may feel uncomfortable about a few things,

but it's nothing like, like old Coke versus new

Coke. Oh, new Coke, screw you. You know what

I mean? Like it's nothing that mundane or it's

nothing that stupid. It's nothing that low ball.

Oh my god, I got offended. I can't read this

anymore Yeah, I think that's another it's such

a key thing to what the turtles are is that they're

in their genre bending They're constantly reinventing

themselves and I hate dropping the no true fan

like line but I think if you're if you're not

okay with reinvention or with a completely different

point of view of the turtles like Where'd you

come from? I mean, yeah by the time you watch

the cartoon that was already the second or third

version of the turtles and the But the point

being that reinvention and genre bending is what

they're about and you can totally have that freedom

with the turtles and You know, I yeah man, but

yeah, you're you and you're talking about a 40

year old property Yep, and there's a move a new

movie coming out this year. Yeah like I want

to sit down with a couple of other geniuses that

you know and discuss what is it about these properties

that have us 40 -year -old men podcasts about

them still and going to movies and taking our

children to them because I'm always a little

upset or disappointed in myself that it is probably

a commercialism thing. we were advertised to

by our Transformers things. But like the turtles,

the people who were fans of it have taken over

the creation of it. And there feels like there's

more message in it, more the hero's journey,

more spiritualism and importance and psychology

happening in them. And they feel more like Greek

gods. Like this is just how we learn our lessons

now and how we Comment on society and and the

world's problems we create these metaphors in

our comics and our Transforming robots and enjoy

it Yeah, absolutely. I mean comic books is one

of those mediums that You can do almost anything

and Create almost anything and you can find an

audience for it and you can like I'm looking

through, as we're discussing this, I'm clicking

through the seven pages of episodes we have on

geekcasterneo .com that are just us doing turtles.

I can't even count how many episodes we've done

since 2014. I know it's probably over. If it's

not over 100, it's right at 100 or something,

and that's not even counting. The three comic

terries we did with the live -action films with

the first three films, whatever That's you know,

that's not counting the interview with tom or

tom waltz or the inner two interviews with bobby

kernel But just the actual like man just all

of it and it's such good storytelling It really

really is And they've touched what they've done

with the idw series with yeah the inclusion and

the bringing the old stories back for this new

audience with the twists that make it more palatable

to my adult sensibilities without making it adult.

I appreciate that. And good Lord, yeah, the passion

behind all of the artists and writers that are

doing it. Yeah, absolutely. And, you know, it

just like like and because this is now 40 year

old franchise and when it started it was a third,

you know when IDW obviously IDW started in 2011

I think with this or 2012 or I forget when but

when we started covering it it was the 30th anniversary

of the franchise in 2014 and IDW not only set

out to create their own story they have woven

in things for the past 40 years into these stores

like Secret history of the foot clan just just

that title or using the title of turtles in time

even though it's not Like it's not a direct comic

adaptation of the video game obviously, but it's

using that title When I hear that title the first

thing I hear and think in my head is is the is

the the old video game But it's its own original

story, you know Northampton because the turtles

have a history with Northampton, Massachusetts

and I I said to you a few days ago, I'm like,

I lived my entire life up until 19, the first

13 years of my life, I was two hours away from

Northampton because I'm originally from Kingston,

Massachusetts. Cool. Like, you know, like it

was a two hour, it's a two hour drive from Kingston

to Northampton and Northampton is quite literally,

it is farmland. I mean, they're not making that

up when they say that the turtles have a farm

or that April has a farm or whatever. However

they end up doing it in the story, whatever they

say to get them to Northampton, it's not in the

real world of what Northampton, Massachusetts

actually is. And it's just so fun. I can't remember

if I told you, but I should get you pictures.

My family went through, went to Maine and I had,

I took them on this giant detour to go through

Northampton. And we go right through the middle

of downtown, this cute little, it's a tiny college

town. Yeah, it is. It starts and then it's gone.

And then you're going to farmland and hills.

But I took a... I took a couple pictures of the

outside of Mirage Studios and we ate dinner down

there. Got some neat pictures that I should share

with you. Yeah. So, so yeah, I mean, it's been

one hell of a journey and we kind of reached

that precipice of the journey with episode 425

of The Pull Bag with TMNT 100 City at War the

End. And we have kind of, we've released volume

one of the new Not new, but the continuing saga

with 101 to 105. But like, yeah, it's been two

years since we like, I know that we released

101 to 105, but before that, it was August of

2021 when we finished our coverage of the first

100 issues of the series. Time be crazy, y 'all.

Aw, yeah, man. Really, really. It's crazy. It's

nuts. And we've even got to cover some of the

other TMNT things that they've done. I mean,

you know, not just within the IDW universe, but

like Batman, TMNT 1, 2, and 3. Those were cool.

I love those. Those were great. And the Power

Rangers. Yeah. Did we cover those? The first

one? Power Rangers? Did we? I don't remember,

no. The second one's coming out, so we're going

to have to cover it. Yeah, we're going to have

to cover it. Yeah, I'll have to figure that out

later. I honestly don't. Like I said, I'm looking

through here to see what. Yeah, no, we haven't

done power. Oh, no, yes, we did. Yeah, we did

do the for April of last year. Yeah, it makes

total sense because I have all the toys like

yeah Yeah, yeah, so we did cover the boom studios

IDW publishing Mighty War from Power Rangers

TMNT because I remember yeah because we were

kind of sort of not really making a Couple of

Venus jokes in there a few times Yeah, see this

is why I don't why I say I like I don't remember

the past. Yeah, it's just Have made so much content

and there's so much content that we still haven't

consumed Yeah, talked about absolutely no and

and it's just been so fun for us to do it and

so fun for us to just be involved in in the world

of TMNT and to you know, have like you said have

us, you know quoted on the cover of an issue

of a comic that You know, yeah. Yeah, I just

like blows my mind that somebody at IDW probably

had to sit down and listen to I don't know how

many episodes to find a quote I'm looking for.

Maybe there's somebody there listening to every

one of them. Hey, here's hoping. It's validating

to this guy who's just sitting in his basement

with a microphone. Yeah, so we first released

our volume one episode January 22nd of 2014.

Back in January of this year on the 18th is when

I released Reborn Volume 1, our episode covering

issues 101 to 105. So, holy crap, pretty much

nine years to the day kind of thing that we've

done this coverage. Like I said, it's just been

so, so fun. We will continue to do the coverage.

Like you said the MMPR team and t2 is coming

We've got whatever is going on because I am so

like you keep up with it I don't because I read

it for the podcast. I want it to be the freshest

opinion in my mind. Like I want that Initial

shock reaction. I want that five seconds of silence

is my job. Basically, it's the floor kind of

thing with whatever moment they're gonna give

us so I know the comic is over 130 issues now.

That sounds about right. Yeah, I'm pretty sure.

And I haven't read anything past 105 currently.

Yeah, I have 132 over here on the floor, one

of the minimum, not floor floor, but I have it

over here. It's one of the multiple covers, not

a reprint. And I haven't read them yet. I like

to read them As soon as I get them and then reread

them for the podcast I always catch way more

on a second read through yeah And I think that's

that would be the best That's the best way to

consume our show is if you like the turtles you're

probably already reading the book But you'll

catch us reading it and we're gonna catch things

that that people didn't notice and I I Love it.

I love I love being able to go through it twice

Yeah. They are, as of this month, as of this

recording in February 2023, they are up to issue

137. 137 just released this month. And... Okay,

then. That's a crazy cover. I don't even know

who's... Okay, that's Baxter. Rat King? Really?

See, that's what I'm talking about, folks. Like,

it's... Me making statements like that or it's

like it's more about I don't really care about

that character and I was like really? I'm sending

you the picture of the cover of 137 So I'm pretty

sure the guy on the right is Baxter. I'm pretty

sure the guy at the top is Rad King. I Don't

know who anybody else is. Oh, man Yeah, okay.

The the skull lady is no Right animals villain.

Yep Then that's that's a metal head with a crane

in his tummy. Oh snap! You're right. Whole...

What? The whole city is on fire. Wait a minute.

What the hell? He found his android body. Oh

my god. Okay so the last time I remember Donnie

was... Not necessarily in metalhead or whatever

but Yeah, okay. Sure. All right. Well, we're

definitely gonna get back into this folks We

like I said episode 507 was volume one of the

reborn trade volumes Volumes two three and four.

I have them all we will be reading them all and

I'm trying to remember what volume Let me see

here I think volume four starts with 113 because

that's the cover of the trade. 113 to maybe 120.

That's a lot of issues though. Well, I don't

know. Anyway, we're going to be covering it as

always here inside the pull bag. Anything else

you want to talk about anything else you want

to say any opinions you want to give any anything

before I either Send it to another clip or close

it out. Nope Just you know, send me messages,

you know get in touch with us We'd love to hear

your opinions and answer your questions and that

sort of thing But it's it's a crazy journey man,

and I'm glad it's still going. Oh, yeah, absolutely

Most definitely. Alright folks, I don't know

if I'm having anybody else on so I'm just gonna

have another commercial break right here and

we will catch you later. So, get altered, get

song on the Perfectly Good Podcast. Have a little

faith. I have broken Rita's evil spell and now

I step into the white light. All right, ladies

and gentlemen, this is clip six of I don't know

how many at this point here inside the pullback

episode 511 10 years of the podcast. Joining

me is Oh boy, it is Jesse Razz, hello. Woo, 10

years, man. That's right. Man, double digits.

I'm old. Yeah, you know, I mean, can't wait till

we celebrate the sweet 16 of this podcast, you

know, you get your license, you know, pretty

soon you'll be going through podcast puberty.

It's gonna be a good, it's gonna be a thing.

Yeah. Oh, if only Bart Simpson was around right

about now. But Jesse is here and Jesse out of

all the guests to this point in the podcast has

the shortest amount of time Which is crazy to

me though because I like we were we were going

over it and I was like man Has it been because

it you know, it's been like what four or five

years for me? Yeah, so it's been to seven years

for you. Wow. Yeah, so you're you're you're well,

I'm trying to make sure I get the math right.

My mom died in 2015. That was eight years ago.

So 2016 was seven years ago at this point. Yeah.

March 9th of basically pretty much a week after

your birthday. Yeah, yeah. I'm the I'm the podcast

baby. Yes. Yes, you are. podcast, baby, he makes

your dreams come true. No, boy. You just need

to go find that girl yours. You know, I love

the babies. Oh, I'm too. I'm not too. I know

what you're talking about. But I it's too late

at night for those kind of jokes. Yes, yes, yes.

Well, yes. Well, I'm wasted youth, apparently.

So Jesse joined me back, like I said, in 2021,

which feels a hell of a lot longer than what

it actually was. Right. I can't believe I joined

you post pandemic. I could have so I would have

said it would have definitely been pre pandemic.

But, you know, what do I know? Yeah. Yeah. So

we started with shattered grid. Then we get disappointed

by beyond the grid. Yeah. We love pink. We went

through the necessary evil. And then we went

through the aftermath. We weren't able to lock

in schedules for me, you, and Joe to do MMPR,

TMNT. Joe did that with me. But hopefully, because

as Joe mentioned in his clip, I think we mentioned

this, but IDW and Boom Studios are teaming up

again for MMPR, TMNT 2. Secret of the morphine

ooze. Yeah. Well, you know what it's gonna be

called I don't know how the comic sales did but

I know the toys sold pretty well So like when

I when I kind of saw that I was like, oh, yeah,

they're gonna do more They're they're totally

doing more. Oh, yeah, absolutely Which I don't

know. Well, obviously that's not the first time

that turtles and Power Rangers have come together

Although it's probably the most successful Yeah,

it's the best time turtles and Power Rangers

came together. That other time, we don't really

talk about her. Well, but you know what, though?

Here's the thing about that. Not to go off on

this tangent, but you got to think about it.

At the time those two franchises came together,

it was kind of at an all time low for both of

them because in space was supposed to be the

last season because ratings had kind of declined.

Now things kind of picked up as they got toward

the end and things like that. the ratings, you

know, were saved by that finale. But really,

it was a low point for both of the series. And

so I'm glad in the comics, they were able to

kind of give it another another try and do it

the right way. Because, you know, those are two

franchises that have had like monster toy histories.

And and so I think that's probably someone will

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's probably

like one of the biggest combining of two toy

juggernaut franchises that I've seen. At that

time, yes. Yeah, most definitely. Because I don't

remember, just off the top of my head without

doing any research, I do not remember any specific,

other than Transformers and G .I. Joe, but hello.

But back then when those two things were going

on, yeah, I can't think of... Mean that would

have been like like if you'd done this in the

80s that would have been like like you said Transformers

GI Joe or like he man and transformers having

a crossover, you know That's probably what would

have been more accurate because you have two

very different worlds kind of crossing over GI

Joe and transformers feels like that actually

that war those two worlds could fit very easily

together So, you know, but But yeah, so, you

know, so not to go off on that tangent, but yeah,

I'm so I'm glad they're getting a second round

on that. Yeah, absolutely. And the funny thing

is with with Venus is last year, she returned

to the to the after 24 years, Venus returns and

IDW is TMNT 127. And basically what Sophie Campbell,

who is writing The Turtles now says that I had

basically been trying to make a Venus comeback

happen for a while and I almost can't believe

it's finally happening. Venus will make her debut

in 127 on sale March 16th of 2022 as part of

the story arc that concludes in issue 130. Her

story will continue in this year's TMNT for Convergation

from last year. I just didn't like next mutation

because of the style and because of the lack

of budget. I was going to say poor production,

but that's probably more accurate, lack of budget.

Poor production because of lack of budget. Now,

granted, that's something that you could do probably

fairly easy now because of the way technology

is, although it would probably look like crap

because it would all be computer. On a TV show

versus versus the movies, but you know I'm glad

someone's taking another risk with Venus because

I have Rewatched the in space episode. I haven't

gone back and rewatched the turtles the turtle

show but I Think the problem with her wasn't

the idea of her it was just that No one knew

how to write for girls on a kids show I mean,

nobody really knew how to write for women, period.

But on a kids show, they were usually especially

bad. And so they had no idea what to do with

her. It was just bad all the way around. I feel

like if it had been done in the last five years,

it would have probably been done a lot better,

although there's a lot of kids here that don't

know how to write for women still. True The average

has gone up a little bit since then. Yeah, I

would hope I mean come on But yeah, so she was

just she's just not really well done I I think

the a female turtle could totally work. I just

it was already I don't know about yeah, you're

right a female turtle in Stands of live -action

type stuff today most likely right? When you

said that I'm thinking hmm, I guess you haven't

read most of the turtle stuff cuz it's already

worked because As we found as we found out in

in the Power Rangers comic book series There's

a lot of things that work really well in comics

in comics that don't work Yeah, I just haven't

been done the right way for various reasons on

the TV show. I mean that was kind of what to

encapsulate all of our conversations about the

Boon Studios comic was, you know, this is stuff

that aged up a little bit towards its original

target audience, which is why it's been success

because you get the nostalgia, but you also release

a product that is targeted at your original audience

where they are intellectually now. And it's dark,

but it's not that That video with James van der

Beek dark You know, it doesn't go that far Talking

about Shattered Grid No, yeah, I mean there are

times I mean Jason David Frank not James No,

no, no, I'm talking about do you remember in

the like mid -2000s when there was that video

with He I think it was van der Beek and then

there was somebody else from Battlestar Galactica

And it was it was that super dark Power Rangers

like fanfic and At first everyone was like, oh

my god, this is awesome Zach just totally, you

know, he's a drug lord now or whatever and then

upon reflection everyone's like Yeah, that's

not really Power Rangers. Yeah, like Boon Studios

managed to go more in that direction but still

keep in line with what the original show was

and you know, especially After you get out of

shattered grid and you start exploring the world

of the coinless and what the hell happened adjacent

It's pretty dark. But again, I don't think it

quite goes to the extent that that video So so

what did this come out into what year specifically

did did that come out that you're talking about?

I'm looking it up now because okay, it's bugging

me. I haven't watched It was a Power Rangers

short film. I want to say it came out in 2015.

Oh, that's okay. You know the one I'm talking

about? Katie Sakoff. That's who it is. It's James

Vanderbeek. Katie Sakoff are in it. I've never

seen that. Go look it up and then just be prepared

to be like, what the fuck did I just watch? It's

like this gritty thing where you find out You

know, they've all grown up and Rita has won and

like it's Like I said when it first came out

this is before we even we had the boom Studios

comics and so it was really the first time somebody

had done something with the Power Rangers franchise

outside of the show or the Yeah, or even I think

I don't even think bat in the Sun I think bat

in the Sun had started doing some of that stuff

with JDF and So it was certainly kind of in that

vein a little bit And you say Zack ended up a

drug dealer just watch it man. I can't know I'm

asking like yeah, I will watch it, but I'm asking

because I want to point I wanted to point out

something this is why I asked when was this least

because so You know Actors be acting and whatever

roles you get is whatever roles you get, you

know, you're an actor you you play roles That's

what it is. You're not you shouldn't ever be

locked into one thing But let's face it from

1993 to whenever it was that his last one was

at the time Walter Emmanuel Jones was Zack Taylor

was the Black Ranger So let's just say I kind

of fell off the the train of Power Rangers somewhere

around 98, I guess. And then, and I remember

this like it was like it was literally yesterday.

It's been, it's been 21 years this coming March.

No, 22, wow, 20. No, yeah, it's been at 21. It

was 2002, so 21 years. 21 years, I mean, in a

few days, actually, folks, as you're hearing

this, FX launched their original programming

with the shield. Oh, yeah. And as the shield

progressed through, we have Walter Emmanuel Jones

as Rondell Robinson, the drug dealer. So here's

the synopsis for this. I think it was called

Power Rangers Unauthorized. And so the Machine

Empire defeats the Power Rangers, destroys the

Megazord of Battle, so we're all after that.

Earth's government negotiates a truce with the

Machine Empire, and the Power Rangers are basically

disbanded. Years later, Rocky, played by James

Van Der Beek, has defected to the Machine Empire.

There's this whole thing about Zordon using kids

as soldiers, and he's got a prosthetic leg, and

he's interrogating kids. Kimberly Hart, which

is Which that is Katie sack off. Okay, so there's

this interrogation scene with her because they're

looking for Tommy And they held the fate of all

the Rangers Zack was an insatiable action junkie

and hip -hop keto workout instructor who became

the Machine Empire enforcer So maybe he wasn't

a drug lord, but he kind of had And then he gets

murdered by an unknown assassin Billy becomes

an openly gay trillionaire who ended up buying

Lockheed Martin was found dead of an apparent

suicide Jason was gunned down eight hours after

marrying Kimberly. Oh my god. Well, so isn't

right And so bulk and skull are the ones that

told their location to a police force later dying

of a meth overdose and draw and drowning like

like this like I'm I'm not even joking. This

was like about as dark as you could go. You know,

they even talk, they even make a reference to

Trini dying in a car wreck during treaty negotiate.

So like, I mean, they don't pull any punches

and actually now I'm looking at it because I

haven't seen it in a while. Carla Perez is Rita.

So they actually got her to play Rita. Nice,

okay. Yeah, so like it yeah Go go watch it. It's

it's a head scratcher Yeah Wow, yeah, yeah, I

can't believe you not you didn't you haven't

seen that uh -uh I I know I have not seen that

that's that's crazy. Yeah, it was Because right

after it came out that was when everyone's like

man Power Rangers should go dark, Power Rangers

should go dark, and that's when JDF really kind

of stood up and he's like, listen guys, I'm all

for a more adult, especially as he was doing

Bat in the Sun stuff. And some of the like crazy

stuff he's like, but you know, true Power Rangers,

there's got to be hope. There's got to be, you

know, there's a line there. You can't go... this

full blow your head off with a gun kind of thing.

He's like, meh. And I agree with him. I'm gonna

go back and watch it, and it was kind of cool

to see, because again, nobody had really done

anything outside of the various seasons in a

long time, but they went further than they really

should have. I think anyway, but it was but again

It was more in line with shattered grid and what

could have been and you know, so yeah So have

you listened to this podcast at all before are

you just on it to be on it? I listen I listen

I like mostly I'll be honest I pick I sort of

pick and choose like when you're talking about

issues or series that that I'm current on because

Power Rangers is really the only series that

I have time to be current on. Occasionally I

get really gung -ho and I'll jump back into Green

Lantern or if there is like the Ninja Turtles,

if I know that's kind of a limited series, I'll

jump in on that because I know I can kind of

wait and maybe get the trade or things like that.

So yeah, I jump in and out when I can. I like

hearing the comments. The the next best thing

to being able to read comics is to listen to

other people talk about it, you know Especially

if you don't have time it's like oh god, maybe

I should pick up that issue Yeah, exactly like

oh, yeah, that's like thing well and personally

I really enjoyed this because I don't have as

many people in my life anymore that Follow comics

as much. I have a couple of friends that I text

but I used to in my 20s, I used to be around

a lot of people. So we could kind of talk about

Oh my god, did you read this? And so like having

somebody to talk about Power Rangers with especially

like, when it's when it's as good as it is, it

was and it's still and it's still got its moments

now. But it's just like, man, I got it shattered

grid, man. I got to talk. Have you read? No.

Oh my god, you got to pick that up. Like that

was just that was just insane. Evil Tommy like

evil or Tommy, I guess I should say. Yeah. And

I don't know if you've heard this not to kind

of go down this rabbit hole, but somebody from

bat in the Sun was talking about I saw in a comment

that JDF really didn't particularly like Draken

or Dracon he He kind of kept it to himself because

he knew the fans liked him, but he never He wasn't

he I don't know I don't know the context the

guy the bat in the Sun guy didn't really go into

a lot of detail that I saw but just You know,

it wasn't his favorite But he didn't voice that

because he knew fans liked him. It's something

you and I are going to eventually get into once

we get into the rebooted universe of Boom Studios

and all that, eventually later this year, next

year, one of these years. I don't know when,

but at some point. I care but I don't care because

I haven't really read it yet and that's how I

always do it with these things is I usually wait

until like the day of recording. I will read

everything that I need to read and I will have

the freshest, you know, in my mind opinion of

whatever it is. Yeah. Did they kind of like,

did he kind of get like, he's not really evil

anymore, right? Well, yes and no. So here's what's

messed up and not to go into too many details.

and I don't know if this is what he was referencing

as far as JDF's love, hate, whatever of Dragon.

JDF, that teaser video for Shattered Grid of

him live action, he bankrolled that. So it's

not like he, so I personally, I love the idea

of the character, especially when it's revealed

in Shattered Grid that of all, in the entire

multiverse of Tommies, there's only one bad one.

Everybody else goes good. Yeah, except for this

one. Like I thought that was OK. That was pretty

cool. Yeah. What I don't like is he's kind of

been, you know, in video games where you play

against the boss and then you get to play as

the boss and the boss character is significantly

weaker when you play him. Yeah. And when you're

fighting against him, that's what they've kind

of done with uh dragon because shattered grid

was kind of his end and then like not that long

later like maybe six months later it's like oh

look this comet comes to earth boom it landed

oh my god it's dragon and you know and it's just

he's the guy they were and then they had this

whole side adventure with jason and them and

then he escapes and then he's kind of a threat

again and then he kept like it's they've watered

him down and because I think they use him too

much because he's so he was so popular and everybody

loved the suit and the concept and so I I hate

it because it's just it's too much I think I

think they they need to let that character just

he should have been dead or gone and then if

you want to bring him back wait two years. Whatever.

You can't make a new ultimate baddie. I don't

know if you're watching or following any of the

current Power Rangers TV series. I'm actually

kind of liking Dino Fear. I'm watching it with

my son. What's interesting is they tie in a little

bit of the Boom Studios lore. Not like word for

word canon, but there's Morphin Masters in this.

Which is really sad because the guy that they

have voicing him is nothing close to Robert Axelrod.

Which is probably better than trying to get a

sound -alike but it's still it's just like it

you lose a lot and they've redesigned the suit

a little bit. It looks pretty close it's not

bad there's certain things I like about it. And

they brought him but see the thing is they brought

him back in a in a way that doesn't undo the

z -wave I guess if that makes sense You know,

whereas like with dragon it's like the end of

shattered grid like he was left in that universe

that just sort of ceased to exist and for him

to survive that it's like So is he omniscient

now? Like can he just not die? Like what do we

got going on here? And I'm not sure there's anyone

out there currently even though His passing is

still Very close You know, I just don't know

if there's any look no disrespect to the people

writing the book, but the main reason why shattery

grid worked and the main reason, you know why

You know JDF and all that stuff worked with it

because because of Kyle Higgins and how he wrote

it and how and I'm not saying that the current

writers don't care all as I'm saying is Kyle

Higgins when I interviewed him on this podcast

back in 2013 You know at that time We were three

years before the boom studios stuff happened

and he said in that interview the one of the

greatest like I have this story that I want to

share that I want to be able to bring to the

world and I want I want that more adult Power

Rangers thing like like we've been talking about

and You know that was going to be eventually,

you know he didn't directly say it in the interview

obviously because he didn't have the job at that

point but but like He's a guy that goes all in

on whatever, and I just don't know if, specifically

to Draken, if that character, like you're saying,

should stick around. I'm not saying he has to

die, but like... Yeah, I mean, and I kind of

thought this before we lost JDF. I just think

he served his purpose. Like there's nothing worse

and I mean you can just look to the horror movie

franchise You know, there's nothing worse than

the overuse Of a good bad guy because you just

with every subsequent use They get a little less

scary. Yeah, and you know even comedy once you

put that guy in a leather jacket on a motorcycle

on a shark then You know By the way, I recently

here's how old that well old soul enough that

I am I know exactly what that is in reference

to and I had to explain it to my wife Oh God,

yeah So boy, they've really jumped the shark

and she goes yeah, and I was like, do you know

what that why where that comes from and she goes

No, not really. I was like well The Fonz literally

jumped a shark What I was like, yeah Seem absurd

now, you know why they use that phrase So yeah,

but yeah, yeah, so I just You know, they've gotten

they've gotten some other baddies in there that

I think are really good baddies In that series,

which you'll explore a little bit are they on

the same world -shattering level as Drakkon?

Probably not, but to kick their butt and to be

scary, I don't think you have to be. Not every

Marvel villain needs to be 73 9 -11s worth of

damage. Yeah, you can just have a Modok. It's

okay, folks. Right, you know and and you know

again in this series, especially as they pertain

to the To the other set of Power Rangers, I don't

know why I'm Jason Zack and Trini's team You

know, yeah the Omega Rangers they have some really

cool kind of scary bad guys that that are out

there that that it seemed to be well written

and well done and you know while the Rocky Adam

and Aisha Power Rangers are battling Zed, you

know? Yeah, I mean like you can create new stories

with classic characters. You can create new villains

for the classic heroes to fight and I think that

like we've already said and like you said like

the the dragon thing kind of like It was a huge

shock to obviously not to the person writing

it because he knew what he was writing and he

knew what he was sorry I want to tell but when

we as readers were reading this we were thinking

and I I do have to say I did we I I think we

all saw the short before we read the series so

we kind of knew We kind of knew ahead of time.

I think if I'm remembering that correctly, but

Still going back and reading shattered grid like

the the buildup of anticipation Kyle Higgins

wrote in that book of Who the hell this guy is

even before that the first five volumes of the

main MMP are ongoing that he was writing the

first What is it 24 20? Yeah, 24 issues before

issue 25 like, you know That was some good build

-up. That was some good teases here and there.

Issue 25 to 29 or 30 gets here and it's like,

oh, okay, we understand this now. And now what

we need to do is we need to find or create a

new threat or a different threat or some other,

not necessarily villain of the week, but a new

villain that can solely exist in the comics that

doesn't necessarily have, cause let's face it,

the shows. The classic MMPR showed like Rita

and Zed and Mondo and Divatox kind of sort of

maybe but not really were the four main obviously

Rita and Zed were the two big ones but like you

know those were the villains those were the whatevers

well now you need to go and do something else

like because Time Force is its own thing SPD

is its own thing and yes they all kind of cross

over and things like that but like like Rancic

essentially is the Lord Zed of Time Force. Like,

you need to find something. And even Rancic got

his, at the end of the television series, got

his redemption kind of thing, just like Zed did.

Like, because again, this is a technically, quote

-unquote, kid's property, and they don't want,

you know, kids thinking that the villains are

always gonna be... I mean, I don't know. This

whole thing of... Making a bad guy good for like

however long it is or what? I don't know. It's

just it's just a weird weird concept If if there

aren't bad people in the world, then how the

hell are the good people supposed to do good?

That's a very philosophical question balancing

act and Balance beam anymore. Well, do you know?

Do you know the latest news about the series

in the direction that they're taking it? No,

I I know that supposedly the 30th anniversary

is going to be much, much more continuity based

than anything else. Well, so, um, so they are

kind of parting ways with Toei. So this next

season of Dino Fury, like these are suits. So

if you look on like Instagram and you see the

new suits, those are not Sentai suits. Those

are new designed. Yeah, and you can kind of tell

cuz you know, yeah, they're they're all right.

They're not great They're they're they're you

know, but What that allows them to do especially

since you don't have some saban and his insane

rules it allows you to do a I want to say it's

like 45 minutes that episode timer The which

normally, you know, we would be lucky to get

a 20 -minute nod Yeah, so but it allows you to

a because it's Netflix you you can do a little

bit longer But also you can do something in service

of the history the nostalgia the lore Hopefully

because your Hasbro you're gonna have some toys

to back it up with a little bit, but you're not

as locked into this Oh, well, we'll do forever

red and I'll write you this check, but you have

to write in this terribly animated motorcycle

that somehow defeats the most epically awful

and scary zord to ever exist. You don't have

to do that bullshit. Look, there is one moment

in maybe two. In Forever Red that are absolutely

amazing and obviously that The action scenes

are not it. It's basically when bulk and skull

are cowing down Sir the phone the phone it rang

it rang. Oh my god You see the hand you see the

face and then we see you know who we see with

Tommy and and then obviously like that that moment

like hmm because us looking back at it like me

looking back at that moment now at Nasada Space

Center when the two leather jackets meet and

The one leather jacket doesn't really like the

other leather jacket because it's brown or black

or tan or whatever Maybe it's mauve or I don't

know. It's it's some sort of color and You think

okay, are they gonna come to fisticuffs or are

they just gonna you know shake hands and obviously

they do the like little fist whatever handshake

thing and then you know what you know that those

were moments and You know, I don't I barely remember

that Andrews used his motorcycle to defeat circuit

No, it wasn't it wasn't Andrews. It was old dude

from Wild Force cuz that was all right. Let's

get yes. He called us cold Yes, that was the

thing but that was always the edict was It's

a team up episode but regardless of the fact

that the previous Rangers no more are more powerful.

They basically have to make the current team

look good in some way shape or form which sometimes

that works sometimes like the other the other

anniversary episode the one that occurred during

overdrive which that's the only reason to watch

overdrive. Which was it which was a two -parter.

Yeah, but like the thing that makes no sense

was though was the replacement Rangers Were significantly

better in every way than the overdrive Rangers,

especially that leader that they had I mean So,

you know, but to get back to the comic that the

fun thing about the comic is it's basically like

those anniversary Sort of team up shows because

you can do that in the comics and that's been

what's been really cool is when they find ways

in the story to kind of give those or in those

one, those one -offs. I, you know, I've been

every time I'm on here, I'm harping. I'm like,

keep the series going what it is, but just keep

those single, like, uh, season books. Like Sins

of the Future and not like Sins of the Future.

Screw that one. Okay. All right. All right. I'm

saying like the. The books that he's talking

about folks sins of the future psychopath those

specific One -off like they're not there beginning

middle ends. That's what you're talking about

They alleged, you know, the psychos path answered,

you know some unanswered questions about the

cycle Rangers What ended up happening them tied

up some loose threads? The the time force one

was supposed to and only just made everything

more confused and and my head hurt You know,

there's one that is was supposed to explain the

Phantom Ranger also very confusing, not as bad

as time force, but still not great. Very much

sort of out there. You know, so those kinds of

things, those I freaking love those like, don't

You know a lot of people are like man Are they

gonna get past MMPR and then get into Zio and

then get in get do all this and it's like no

I don't think you have to do a retelling of every

season because obviously certain seasons are

probably Lend themselves better to this and there's

certainly more nostalgia tied to the MMPR than

there is any of the later seasons especially

like Lost Galaxy or overdrive and Lost Galaxy

wasn't bad. Lost Galaxy was really good, actually.

I mean, it was a nice little self -contained

story. But the thing is, like in these comics,

like I'm saying about find a new threat, find

a new, you know, comic or originated villain

or something, or create one. And yes, I know

technically Dragon was that, but Dragon is also

a, like we've said, an evil Tommy Oliver. Well,

find something that doesn't have to be an evil

insert. Classic Power Rangers character name

here, whatever it is, right? You can still use

the classic teams You can still use the rangers

or the mighty rangers. You just have to put them

in situations that are completely I remember

like even as as I was reading it and as we were

talking about it not obviously because of the

company of who I'm talking about the stuff with

but when we covered beyond the grid I was fading

fast. I'm like dude. Oh God, can this be over

already? And the thing is they have, they have

very much deviated from actual show continuity,

you know, with the introduction of the character.

Yeah. And that's what I'm saying. Like then that's

not, it's not a terrible thing. Like with the

introduction of the character of Matt, the second

green ranger and, and, and Grace Sterling and

all of that stuff, you know, it's still kind

of the same premise, but they've added a new,

they've added their own twist to it and it's

good. I think I, you know, I enjoy it. I like

that, but I don't think that, I don't think you're

going to have the level of success with your

comics. If you move on to other seasons, like

they have sort of milled this, you know, I like

that they created the Omega Rangers. That's fine.

But I think if you're going to pick another season

to do a long thread, like they've done with MMPR.

I think you need to be very very careful about

which one you pick Because there you you have

to have one that has that same Nostalgic place

that MMPR does and I don't really know I don't

know if you're gonna find I don't think you are

you know, I'm really hoping that You know, maybe

they do like a one -off uh for rpm because I

kind of would like to see you know what happened

to that particular world at post vengex although

uh not to spoil anything about beast morphers

but um the bad guys seen the first season in

that well so what ends up happening is So the

villain of beast morphers is, um, I can't remember

his name, but he's, he's sort of stuck in the

morphing grid and, or he wants to get in there

and he's been trapped. And, um, so they fight

him. Well, then they eventually find out that

Nate developed the beast morpher morphers by

copying other studying other morphers. And one

of the morphers he studies is the red. RPM morpher

and the Vengex virus gets out and becomes this

new villain in our in our world so it totally

ties into that last episode that we are that

last episode of that you know that that cliffhanger

that it's like are they ever going to address

that so that was really nice they did on the

show but like I wouldn't mind if they tied up

some other loose ends in a one -off there I mean,

there's a lot hanging out there that you can

have some fun with in a one -off. Again, I'm

still waiting for what happened in the fucking

zeocrystal. It just disappeared. By the way,

have you read... I finally found a couple of

people who talked... I think it was Catherine

Sutherland who's talking about the Turbo movie,

because apparently it was cut for time. But the

reason why they had to go turbo is Water is the

Achilles heel for the zeo powers Now why you

would go turbo because you have a water -based

Villain and you're gonna go Cars makes even less

sense than water being the weakness of the zeo

Rangers Yeah, it's Power Rangers. When has it

ever made sense? You're right, but there are

things that make less sense. I tell you what,

again, they kind of went back and tried to explore

the origins of the Phantom Ranger. It was okay.

It was a little bit of a disappointment. But

go back and talk about the Gold Ranger. He just

kind of showed up. He's a triplet that's kind

of one person sometimes, kind of not. Go and

explore Triforia. That's a cool dynamic that

you could totally do a one -off storyline on.

You could even tie an older Jason into it. Maybe

there's another problem. they have to figure

out a way for Jason to re -assume the Gulk Ranger

or something like that. That's a great example

though of another thread because I don't even

know if you advance them up to Zeo if that's

enough to keep people interested in the comics.

Yeah, I don't know. I need to eventually read

them and figure it out for myself because Like

I said after Beyond the Grid I was like It gets

better and you know, there's a whole lot that

they explore with Zordon's past and the Altarian's

and and stuff which is really cool I think they

do a pretty decent job of that. Although they

kind of They kind of destroy TV continuity a

little bit there. The the still plays a big part

of that as well, so You know, like it's a fun

series. I enjoy it. I think it's it's pretty

decently written with a few duds here and there

I love when they I you know, I think I told you

as weird as it is I love the sword action sequences

in panels because We were limited in the American

show by what? Zord footage they could cut up

especially Especially the Thunder Zords. You

know, the Thunder Zords, half the time, if you

go back and watch it now, and I'm gonna ruin

the series for you, and I apologize, but any

time that it cut to a shot of the Megazord just

waving its sword or doing something, and then

jump cut to the monster getting blasted, and

there's no in -between, it's because the monster

was a season, was a Zyuranger. with die ranger

and so there's a lot of jump cuts in there so

you and you know they got really lucky they didn't

have a black die ranger it was green and so that

lot has enough black on it that no one really

said anything about it but as a result and because

you see it in the Red Dragon, you see the Red

Ranger riding it, which is badass, but you can't

see, they can't show you with the other Rangers

because it becomes very obvious that they're

not the Power Ranger suits or the Dye Ranger

suits. So you're very, I went back and watched

Dye Ranger and there's so much cool Zord footage

that you just don't get to see. So when you get

to see some of that in the comics and they even

create like a new Zord combo, Between the dragon

sword and the tiger sword for a hot second like

It's cool. I mean, I don't it's a cool action

sequence. I love that stuff. Yeah That is very

very awesome. And you know you talk about Seeing

the you know, I know you're more speaking Trey

and and not the other guy, but I'm just like

Why do you want to see the other guy who's almost

50 in gold spandex? Really? Like you can just

dress up in the gold spandex yourself. You'll

be fine. And on that note, folks, I think we're

going to go to a quick ad break. We may even

have some listener calling things or messages.

I don't know. I've been trying to put out the

feelers for that and haven't gotten any responses

yet, but I do know. Our good buddy Scanner 51
