About this Episode

Mike and Joe dig through their short boxes to discuss IDW's TMNT-Ghostbusters 2 miniseries. They explore how the story brings together Darius Dun's vengeful ghost with the Ghostbusters to save the turtles from a supernatural trap, analyze the multiple artists' styles used to represent different dimensions and character pairings, and highlight the emotional character moments—especially the return of Tang Shen—that give the crossover real heart alongside the action and fan service.

Hi, this is Bobby Kernow, Chief Turtle Editor

at IDW Publishing, and you are going to have

a shell of a good time inside the pull bag. You've

just jumped inside the pull bag. Join TFG1 Mike

and the rest of the comic reading crew here at

the GCRN as they make their great escape into

comics. From DC, Marvel, IDW, Boom Studios, Xenoscope,

and more, we have everything you want to read

right here. Transformers comics? Yeah, we cover

that. He -Man? Yeah, sure. DC superheroes like

Batman, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Batman Beyond?

Yep, we have those too. How about TMNT from IDW

and I Hate Fairland from Image Comics? Yeah,

we have all that here. Plus, so much more. It's

all inside the pull bag here on the Geekcast

Radio Network. So without any further ado, it's

time to talk about the comics we are reading

right now here inside the pull bag. Hello and

welcome to episode 338 of The Pull Bag. I'm,

of course, TF2 on Mike. I wasn't on last week's

episode because Ryan the Unevenful, Merkley,

Lady REC, and their guest did a in -depth discussion

on the entire 13 -year IDW publishing run of

the Transformers, and that was a very, very well

-done discussion. Hope everyone listened to that.

First time in... five -and -a -half so almost

six years I haven't been a host on my own damn

podcast but I understand why I have not caught

up I know why Ryan didn't want me on it because

I have not read the end of the run yet we're

still going through here in the pull bag and

reviewing the Transformers comics so I'm not

to the end yet so they wanted to discuss it all

in full spoilers and everything else so hope

everyone listen to that You heard him laugh.

Joe Reed is back. I am here. You are here and

it is time to bust some turtles Yes, you can

always sniff the air and if you smell the sewer,

it's probably Joe here to talk about turtles

with you I just stuck tape to one of my comics.

How lovely is that? I love these I love these

bags with the the new comic bags that I Found

that have the sticky stripe on the back that

you can self seal you don't need tape But you

know I bought them when this one time doing this

podcast actually I set a book down on the desk

and tape got on the cover and the cover ripped

as I kind of gently tried to tug the tape off

of it. And so, oh, I need these new bags that

have self -sealing on the back. And they've been

great, except I've ruined two comics with the

self -sealing setting a comic on it. And I think

I'm going to get this book. Hey, all right. Oh,

no. Tape is still there. Oh, OK. We're good.

We're good. All right. So yeah, I do like the

self -sealing bags, but that was scary. We're

all good. We're all good, everybody. Comics are

intact. Open opening comics on a comic podcast.

Yay Well, you were you were um, we were we've

been trying to sit down and record this for a

very long time and When when you first mentioned

it, of course the first thing I do is go find

all my short boxes and start digging through

it and you We have access because the publishers

love you and love us and they send us digital

bits and you link me to it like I can't read

those. I can't read on a computer screen. So

I'm digging through my short boxes. I discovered

that issue one has disappeared. So I had to go

buy a new issue one the whole time. That link

is in my in my chat and I can click on it and

read all the comics digitally But like no, I

must have it in print. I must be able to damage

the book with my hands sweat and and Lay it down

and rip the cover on some tape. But yeah, yeah,

I will always be a print comic guy and I used

to be a print comic guy until one day trying

to read a full -on like God knows how many pages

thick trade paperback of i think it was either

the punisher born or i know it was it was welcome

back frank that's what it was that book is about

the size of my hand in trade so i'm just trying

to sit here in my chair uh... the chair that

i had at the time the really nice comfy leather

chair i had yada yada yada uh... and i'm trying

to read it and not because of the content of

the story but because Holding a book that size

up to my face to try to read it. I was falling

asleep next thing I know I don't have the book

in my hand It's gone. It fell on the floor because

I fell asleep trying to read that so I'm like

I I love print. I absolutely do comics are made

to be in print. However comics ology digitally,

the guided view, the panel by panel. I cannot

recommend it enough because, oh my god, I can't

read comics and print anymore. I just can't.

There was one time you and I read a comic, or

you were tabbing through it with me, and I think

it was Screenshare or something, and the way

that that comixology does these cinematic moves,

I'm like, wow, somebody out there is programming

that in. There's no way a computer can algorithmically

decide what needs to look good. So that kind

of attention to detail is nice. Now, because

I'm an old man technophobe, is that a... particular

program that you're using or is that something

that the file itself does? No it's okay so on

the Comixology website once I purchase whatever

book I'm purchasing through their website okay

it's an option that their website has you can

view it as a single page like you would view

you know you would turn page by page it would

go you know page by page they have they have

a single page They have two pages where you can

view two pages at once. So that's kind of cool.

But the guided view is just an option that I

absolutely love because it highlights and shows

you various things that. And it zooms in on things

that you don't normally get to see. And the way

that I'm. the way that my vision is and whatever

else, there's no way digitally that I could read.

And they have this option, they have zoom in

and zoom out as well. So if they didn't have

guided view, I would have to zoom in like four

or five times just to see what the top panel

of TMNT Ghostbusters 2 says. Like I can't even

read that digitally. So that's one of my gripes

with digital is the programs that I've used have

to zoom in and out. So when you have a file on

Comixology, you buy something here. The viewer

is web -based. I just do it through my internet.

Oh, man. Yeah, it's through their website. It's

their stuff. It's not like any separate program.

Wow. So anything yeah, I need to I might need

to look into this because that it did be neat

every once in a while I'm looking at Ninja Turtles

shredder in hell That came out this week the

week that we're recording this and it did not

show up at my comic store And I'm like wow do

I buy that digitally and you went online why

I don't know why not I should do that I'm dying

for that story the people have been Saying it's

great And we'll review that at some point on

the show. Yeah, we will get to it at some point.

We're way behind on Turtles. But again, folks,

you know, life happens. I've said this for the

last 10, almost 11 years that I've been podcasting.

I just celebrated 10 years of podcasting this

past December. You know, life comes before podcasting.

And if we can't get to an episode or whatever

it is that's going on, I'll just move it. We'll

get to it eventually. I'll just move it or rearrange

it or find somewhere else for it kind of a thing.

So TMNT Ghostbusters 2. The creative on this

story is done by Eric Burnham and Tom Waltz.

The art is done by Dan Shoning on number one

and five. Mark Torres number two through four.

Pablo Tunica on number two through four. Tad

Galusha, I'm probably butchering that name, two

through four. And Charles Paul Wilson the third

on four and five. Colors done by Lewis Antonio

Delgado. It was all because of a simple accident.

While testing teleportation technology, the Teenage

Mutant Ninja Turtles found themselves in another

dimension of New York City. The New York City

of the Ghostbusters. Together they fended the...

fended off Chai Yu, a member of the Pantheon

that had been meddling in the affairs of the

Turtles Earth for centuries. They also constructed

an interdimensional portal in the Ghostbusters

Firehouse, a device that the Turtles then used

to return home, and something that the Ghostbusters

have been experimenting with ever since. And

that was it, until now. I am rarely excited for

these crossover events, whether they be the Batman

or this. And to be the only one I would get excited

about Daredevil, but I'm really excited for this.

And as I'm digging through the boxes, knowing

that I need to reread these for for this podcast,

I'm not excited. But once I start reading them.

I'm like, okay, this is nice. There's neat stuff

happening in here. These characters are themselves,

and you're seeing these dynamics that you don't

usually get to see within either property, within

Ghostbusters or within Ninja Turtles. So it ends

up being something that, yeah, it's weird for

me, you know? You get these crossovers where

I think the intent is you get the Ghostbusters

readers... Looking at the turtles IDW's turtles

and saying man Maybe I should buy those books

and I think the idea is that the turtles go by

Ghostbusters and inspires some Cross -pollination

and sales get some people excited It does the

opposite for me But every time I read any of

the books that we review in IDW's universe and

like no this is actually good There's so much

love that goes into it for everything. I like

I need to really make bigger effort to not be

disappointed before I even read it. Yep, so the

trade shows us a like cast page and gives little

bios for all the turtles and all the Ghostbusters.

It also gives bios for the villains of the piece,

the collectors, and Darius Dunn. The ghost of

Darius Dunn is here with us at this point. very

very cool i wasn't sure what to expect when i

first got this and i'm like okay sure uh... i

like the art uh... i'm not usually a fan and

this has nothing to do with the artist but i'm

not usually a fan of a book that has multiple

artists on it we've talked the last god knows

how many years about all these turtles and most

of the arcs like city fall was one like I think

city fall was all santa luco I could be wrong

I'm not looking it up but like the first arc

was all dan shoning the Northampton arc was all

one artist and kind of a thing this has three

or four different artists now I like what the

artists do in this but sometimes it's it's jarring

to me to see a different art form every few pages

or so. And the I think that happens and that's

happened in a couple of the turtles books usually

when they're jumping through time but I know

it's happened when they haven't and they're doing

that because these books are usually I think

they end up coming out weekly sometimes every

week there's the new issue instead of monthly

and so there's a big rush but they're doing that

so they can spread the load of the production

of the book across a number of different artists

and where I've looked at other publishers books

doing multiple artists within the same book you

can notice it and it's jarring when I've seen

IDW do it on occasion, they're doing it for reasons

like we get the dimension hopping happening in

this one, and the time hopping happening in like

the Turtles in Time books. They hide the artists

in the plot, you know, so when you look at it

and it's a different artist, oh, we're back in

this time zone, we're back in this dimension,

and that's a clever way to do it, where it doesn't

quite feel as abrupt, sudden, or it doesn't seem

as much like a cash grab. Yeah, yeah There yeah,

and you're right with the turtles it does make

sense But there are other things that do this

that multiple artists and sometimes it just doesn't

work. Oh, yeah what this it does I remember there's

a Superman comic I read a while back where it's

yeah It's one of those weekly books and the hardest

changed like from one page to the next and there's

no reason for it Like am I reading the same comic?

I can't even tell but this one they they They

explain it away or that's not the right word

there, but they there's a story reason for an

artist shift and that's kind of neat Yeah, but

of course like it is definitely different and

jarring I mean there is there's something happening,

but I like that they at least give us a reason

for it Where some publishers don't and some writers

don't? So the Basic gist of this story is that

Darius wants to obviously get revenge on the

turtles For to review for our listeners Darius

done was a Kind of a kingpin like street boss

character in the turtles universe and Splinter

was in charge of the foot clan found out who

these guys were and used the foot clan to Trash

his business and I think at the end of the series

splinter killed Darius and that's where the turtles

were like Oh, no, no murder. Nope. We're out

and that's where they kind of checked out too,

but Darius now He's a ghost he's a ghost in the

Ghostbusters world and he's not happy I love

the way that You know, we see Peter and Egon,

we see the explanation of these new ghosts that

show up, and we see them try, you know, Donnie

appears, I made it, I, you know, I did this,

I did that. You know, very, very cool. I love

the designs of these ghosts that actually kind

of morph into the turtles for a little bit. I

think that's super cool. Yeah, they're even using...

turtle weapons there I see in this panel. I'm

assuming. Have you been reading the Ghostbusters

series? I have not. This and the first one of

this is the only Ghostbusters stuff I've read.

I want to get to it eventually. It's just another

one of those things where it's like there's so

many comics and so little time and I have not

had a chance to read the Ghostbusters stuff.

I read the first two or three arcs of the Ghostbusters

and it's great. It's wonderful. Total fan service

and love letters everywhere. It's just like...

Just like Ninja Turtles is for for me I'm a bigger

Ninja Turtle fan than I was a Ghostbusters fan

and I eventually jumped off the book because

I was just spending too much money but It's it's

a good series and I'm wondering I don't even

need to wonder I'm pretty sure that these collectors

have been reoccurring Ghostbusters villain for

a time Yeah this first issue basically sets up

everything and we see the turtles and Darius

and all of that and then of course, you know,

the Ghostbusters do show up and they agree to

help everybody. Yeah, the premise here is that

the Darius summoned these collectors and To go

find the turtle so we can use them to torture

splinter it kind of you know I'm gonna kill him

in front of him and make him watch and then Haunt

them for the rest of his life because Darius

is deranged at this point the turtles are imprisoned

in this dimension where they can't escape and

Donatello somehow figures out how to go visit

the Ghostbusters to ask for help And the Ghostbusters

like I said do agree to help what I love in this

is the the art on the on the page where It says

allowing remotely access jumps these jumps will

further obscure your presence here the the panels

with With the turtles going to the various dimensions

or whatever to get the Ghostbusters Very very

cool. Love the art on that Yeah, there's some

psychedelic background spacey backgrounds Yeah,

it reminds me of that time that they were trying

to contact splinter on the Mystical plane or

something or other this is this is way back when

mm -hmm But yeah, I absolutely love it. I think

it's super fun Obviously you know for Ghostbusters

for turtles they're all gonna kind of pair off

and Obviously Donnie and Egon are the ones that

you know get to work and do the science stuff

and and Everybody else just kind of pairs off

and I'm Trying to think who who do like like

right now Winston in issue 2 Winston and Leo

are paired together kind of a thing issue 2 might

be my favorite out of this because issue 2 has

the 87 art hahaha yeah oh I think if I know did

did Shoning still do this issue because the first

page is not no yeah he did okay one through five

oh my he did even that page too but yeah that's

it the he is incredibly versatile like he has

his style with which I think Is the the ghostbusters

is he's been the artist on that forever where

they have this kind of flintstones like mouth

all the ghostbusters But yeah, it's great. It

works and they all Seem to look like their movie

counterpart the actors, you know They all capture

some essence of that but then but then he can

pull off He can pull off the the cartoon ghostbusters

so well and he can pull off the cartoon ninja

turtles here on on page two Yeah turning winston

into that style and leonardo Oh, gosh, it's like

right out of the 80s cartoon. Exactly. Even the

sewer layer is right out of the 80s cartoon.

It's like, damn, we need a Turtles comic that's

just nothing but 87, like, seriously. I wonder

how that would read. You know, would I be interested

in that now? I mean, I, of course, romantically

love the old series, but when I watch it, it's

kind of like, oh, no, I can't even. It's too

much for me. I think the Ghostbusters cartoon

holds up better than the Ninja Turtles cartoon.

Just interesting. What is so funny is that as

issue two unfolds here, and they're all doing

this like Leo and Winston have been transported,

and then you see... Mikey and Peter and they're

in different designs and they're kind of and

then Winston is with Raph in this spaceship looking

thing there's a panel with Mikey and Peter and

Mikey looks like his Nickelodeon his Nickelodeon

version I'm like man this really is a love letter

here well the space scene back here that's the

Galaga ship from the cover of the Galaga video

game the 8 -bit Nintendo And above that, Winston

Leo has Indiana Jones Boulder rolling behind

them. Oh, oh, and that's a pile of gold with

a sword in the stone, kind of smog lord of the

rings here with Raph and Ray up there. So it's...

Yeah, it's very, very cool. I really do dig it.

There are love letters all over this book the

some of the ghosts in the background It took

me a while like my brain recognized it, but they

Like the ghosts from page one of the comic One

of the original Ghostbusters toys came with these

little blue ghosts that fit over the head of

the Ghostbuster and that's what that is an illustration

of it's the ghosts that came with one of the

action figures that fit over their head like

oh my gosh there it is I played with that I don't

remember because it's been so long since we did

the first TMNT Ghostbusters thing. The one thing

I wanted from that, and one thing I want from

this, and I know it's not going to happen in

this anyway, I want the Scaleri Brothers. Oh

man, I want to say they were in one of the first

stories of the comic, the Ghostbusters comic

that they showed up. That's something I'm going

to have to add into the pull bags lineup at some

point. I know it's been years and years and years,

but... So yeah, as we go along we get another

new art style. This one's a little jarring. This

is after the... The Raph and... is it Winston?

I think it's... it might be Leo with the Raph

and Ray, or there was a coloring mistake there.

No, it's Raph and Ray. It's Raph and Ray. Because

I see Raph's sigh, and he's yelling at Ray. So

after that happens, we have another art style

change. And this one's a little strange. This

one's very steampunky. and I'm not I don't know

I'm not a fan of of the Venkman yeah he's a little

a little narrow in the chin and he kind of looks

old but I've seen this artist do a couple of

Ninja Turtle covers and and what keep my brain

keeps coming back to is that the turtles look

like Kermit the frog To me and and I it's it's

an interesting. It's neat. It's a it's a it's

a style that I haven't seen before When I first

when I first saw Mikey here when he says whoa

this thing can even send messages into other

other universes I'm like um who called the TMNT

3 producers and had them Do this because he looks

like Mikey in the steampunk version to me at

least in the first panel with him and Peter He

looks like his his Jim Henson TMNT 3 version

of himself Yeah, there's an awful lot of green

space around his eyes. It now almost looks to

me like the live -action the crappy live act

while the computer generated whatever that was

the next mutation no Michael Bay version with

There's some proportion things going on a little

there and that especially in that panel, but

yeah and splinter I mean splinter I'll say this

he looks like a humanoid rat finally. I mean

he's got a nose now We've talked about this for

years folks how hard it must be to draw splinter

because he's a humanoid rat Yeah, it's it with

the it's I've tried drawing splinter. It's not

easy Those ears, the nose. I think this is all

right. I can get behind this. The world that

they're in is a world of, I guess, furries, anthropomorphic

animals walking around. They're all wearing clothes,

which I think is funny that... Bankman realizes

that there's something different between you

and those guys over there Yeah, you can walk

around but you better put some clothes on they're

not naked like you are And so he gives him his

jumpsuit and he's walking around in this his

t -shirt Yeah, that I'll say this right now Normally,

I will read this for the story first to get the

story actually out of it But it was difficult

for me to under not understand the story but

to follow the story With the steampunk art. I

just It just took me out of it This it's weird

there there's a panel here with the where these

turtle busters show up to trap Peter because

he's a human and they don't recognize it they

think he's a demon and they're all just conveniently

posed there one of them sitting on the ground

it's like they showed up surprise I know you

guys are sitting on a park bench but now we're

here three of us have our back to you I'm on

the ground looking at you with a big grin like

they took the time to pose And it's to make a

good composition, it's to draw it, but you know,

it's just... When characters are shifting left

to right, right to left, and you can't tell where

the camera is, where the spectator's supposed

to be, it gets difficult to see where people

are moving. I only know that because I read a

Will Eisner book many, many years ago about laying

out comic books. Yeah, it's one of those things

where there are times when even though I absolutely

love this story and love whatever story We're

covering for turtles There are times like I just

said there are times where the art just takes

me out of it that that isn't just specific to

this book Like I mentioned earlier there are

times when art shifts will take me out of a story

and I understand what they're doing with this.

They're trying to homage a bunch of various designs

and iterations of the turtles and the Ghostbusters,

and I think that's absolutely super cool, but

the steampunk version didn't work. At least for

me it didn't. So we get Leo and Winston being

hunted by these, I don't know. Terminators. Yeah,

Ghostbuster, Terminator, robot things or whatever

it is. Then Donnie is back with Egon trying to

solve the issue of being able to call everybody

back So there's that This there's a scene here

with the the turtle the Terminators and Winston

doing his thing and you know the the turtles

and the Ghostbusters don't exactly have foils

between each other you've got The two brainy

people, yes, but then everybody else kind of

doesn't match up. They don't have a Michelangelo.

They don't have the Ghosts. There's just don't

have a a raff hothead anger, dude. And so it's

like, how do you pair them up and make them relate?

And I think they did a really good job here with

Leo and Winston. I mean, Winston's not. the leader

of the Ghostbusters. They don't exactly have

a leader. But the the comic when I was reading

Ghostbusters comic, they did a really good job

of flushing Winston out, who in the original

movie was just kind of the everyman for us to

relate off of someone who didn't know the world

of ghosts like the other characters did. But

in the comic, they kind of give him this he's

got a military background, which, you know, it's

there for him to access. It's not who he is,

but it's it's there for him. And We using that

he relates to Leo as the leader who occasionally

lets things Who occasionally messes up or feels

like he messed up and Winston kind of gives him

a pep talk and they kind of they connect that

way and and that was a really neat piece of heart

and and one of the redeeming things from this

comic I think that made me say like alright I

need to stop hating on these things before I

even read it because We have an opportunity here

for a character moment with the turtles that

we've never gotten before. And I'm sure the Ghostbusters

get a character moment that they haven't ever

really had before. Winston, because he was the

everyman in the movies, he doesn't get to give

the pep talks. You know, it's the other guys

saying, oh, don't worry, the ghosts won't hurt

you. But he gets to pep talk this Leo. And so

there's a really neat character stuff going on.

And when I reread this, I'm like, OK, I think

everybody's going to get a neat character moment

like that. Everybody's going to learn something

in this book. and it was neat to see. And then

we get this cool kind of psychedelic thing with

Donnie because Egon crosses a wire or does something

wrong or whatever and he has this really really

weird psychedelic one eye kind of thing showing

the collectors. Jeanine comes in and says hey

you got a box from from this or whatever kind

of thing and they have all these knives and swords

and whatever and that's kind of where this one

where the second issue kind of heads off where

Donnie says no time for concerns Egon we have

too much to do Travigate will be a snap, but

we'll still need to be able to fight and that's

where this stuff comes in We're gonna build a

proton powered ninja arsenal. Those demons will

never know what hit them I love the first two

issues. I think the story is fun. I think the

art is interesting And I'm excited to see those

character moments coming in the next Yep, yep.

We have issue three here and starts off with

Darius and his, I forget what the guy's name,

the other demon that's with him there. Uh, Bronson,

who I don't know if that's anybody. Yeah, I don't

know either. So, you know, they're trying to,

you know, Darius is trying to basically... You

know He's trying to handle his defeat or whatever

We get to the turtles we get back to steampunk

with steampunk furry turtles here So creepy Mikey

and Raph with Pete nope just just just Mikey.

Oh, it's two. It's two version of Mikey's isn't

it? No, they're they're the the turtle busters

are are Okay, that's right. That's right. That's

right. And Mikey's wearing Venkman. Yes. Yep.

Yep. Yep. Yeah So yeah, so we have Mikey in the

in the turtle busters, which I forgot the turtle

busters were actual turtles Or Kermit the frog

looking looking things. Yeah There there are

occasionally neat looking panels like I like

the oh, there's no page numbers here There's

a shot where two of the turtle busters have their

little pistol proton packs shooting lasers off

to the right and they're burying their teeth

that's a neat looking panel and and then there's

there's good stuff that happens, but And the

layouts are a little Hard for me Yeah, the layouts

are are quite hard I don't know why there wouldn't

be page numbers, but it is what it is, I guess.

So Mikey tries to free Peter. The turtle busters

kind of come in and they kind of have a fight,

like you were saying. We get to Raph and I assume

Ray. Yeah, Ray, Raph and Ray. And they're fighting...

It turns out that these are Viking ghosts and

I didn't realize it the first time I read it,

which was hard for me, but they showed up at

this place, something happened, and then the

ghosts possessed... their bodies kick their souls

out and so they the the two incorporeal ray and

wrath they come to and realize that these vikings

are using their bodies to experience combat for

the first time in a long time and so they have

some work devising how to get their bodies back

and in so in doing so you know they have another

moment where ray says well you know i counted

on your negativity to to for that plan to have

worked with this mood Mood ooze. What do they

call it? That's the paint? Yeah mood slime. Thank

you. I knew they had a word for it and So you're

so negative you wear your your emotions on your

sleeve and you're angry, but you're really soft

but you're still angry and It's another it's

another little moment for somebody who's not

the usual people Yelling at rap about his anger

to talk to him about his anger containment unit

thing I guess working and we see this giant ghost

and Donnie is testing out his Darth Maul proton

pack bow staff yeah that's honestly the best

way to put it because that's exactly what it

is it's like oh damn it's just like oh damn So

we've got you know these experiments going on

trying to make sure the weaponry will work and

You know don't cross the streams and all that

Yeah for a second there earlier with with Ray

and Raph I thought they got their bodies switched

they did at a point Raph managed to get back

into Ray's body and using his 45 year old body

to do the martial arts trying to keep him alive

while they Well, Ray figured out the rest of

the problem. Was interesting. You're gonna feel

that in the morning. Oh yeah. You're gonna feel

that right now. Ow, my back. My neck. I want

$150 ,000 but I'll sell our car right now for

20 bucks. Oh boy. So we got Winston and Leo going

after the collectors and that's kind of how issue

three kind of ends off. Just another second and

we're out of here. Winston? I think we might

be a little too late. Once again, love the art.

I think the art is really, really fun. I think

that the story is playing along very nicely.

Like we already said, it's gone through all the

various art incarnations of each of the teams.

All the while, the story from Allure and Waltz

is just... Not Allure, Burnham and Waltz is just

a fun little crossover story. And I'm finally

recognizing the name. Burnham does write... He

writes the Ghostbusters book, doesn't he? Yep.

Yep. He also wrote... He wrote one of the turtles

stuff because I remember we've talked about him

before for writings I forget what it is off top

my head. I'm sorry Eric We love you, but it's

been too long. Yes, it really has so the turtles

have kind of defeated the collectors the collectors

go back to done and and Basically done is like

I'm done with you all I'm going to basically,

you know manifest you all into myself or whatever

it is yeah it's it's uh at this point in the

comic i'm going like all right who is this Darius

done and how does he have this kind of power

they he summons them back which apparently the

little psychic ghost says you don't do that they're

going to destroy you for doing this and they

attempt to make him pay the price for summoning

them twice and his soul is poisoned and so he

ends up kind of corrupting them and they all

become Dunn collectors instead of whatever they

originally were and and it's like all right all

right now this makes me kind of say like I want

to know who Darius is was where'd he come from

in the turtles comic that made him be able to

uh impose his will over these four demi -god

weird Spirit critters that can pop dimensions

like what is it? Kind of like I want to know

about no in in the turtle book like who is that

character where those horns come from and yeah

So we get this giant final battle With all the

demons and what I think is interesting is at

one point we get It's on page nine well it's

not page 90 in the single issues like you have

but it's an issue three is it's where they're

teleporting through the portal and I'm like hey

isn't that Eastman style yeah or issue issue

four maybe okay it's issue four sorry I want

to see this because it kind of looks like it

I think It's after Ray and Raph have their little

their little fight Is where that is, okay But

yeah, I mean this this story just keeps going

on and on I remember I first read it again with

the steampunk stuff. I'm like This is taking

me out of it. Not really digging this style But

Yeah, I mean I do dig the consistent changes,

which is not normal for me, because I don't normally

like consistent change in art style, but it's

an interesting way to separate each of the characters

and the teams that they're like, you know, Ray

and Raph and Mikey and Venkman and Leo and Winston,

you know, they all have to kind of have a different

art style, I guess. Just wish it wasn't steampunk.

It's the only thing and I'm sorry for harping

on that but So, what are you thinking so far

for this for issue four here I'm I still like

the each of the turtles and Ghostbusters as different

as they are and and difficult for them to relate

that they've Given an excuse to have these heartfelt

moments where everybody's learning something

Yep, yeah, very very cool Let's see So the interesting

thing here with what I assume is like I said

Eastman style ish kind of taking over is the

story basically Brings in someone we haven't

seen in a while. Mm -hmm I'm like, oh god This

this is not going to go well Issue four ends

with mom That's right folks. They did it they

brought back Tang Shen Yeah, I think gosh, I

don't even remember when it was I it wasn't April's

miniseries, I can't recall but Secret history

of the foot clan and then after that it might

have been I think Mikey Oh Turtles in time Turtles

in time. That's what it was. Yep, and and what

I what I One of the things that I like that the

IDW universe has done is is they've given so

much meaning to the 16th century Japan and Tang

Shen and where splinter came from and that the

way that they handle that it makes Tang Shen

their mom So much more important than a lady

that the turtles never met. No, that's their

mom, dude It's another character for them to

to connect to like they connect to splinter and

and this I don't remember this occurring in the

previous issues, but she's She's a spirit. She's

a soul. She remembers them and As as issue five

begins. She's saying I've been with you. I've

watched you I'm watching you all the time and

it's gonna get really scary in a minute, but

it's gonna be alright They're they're giving

her some power. I mean, she's not just Help me.

I'm a ghost. I don't know what I'm doing here.

No, she's comfortable in her role Whatever it

is that she's doing and that's kind of neat.

I'm excited to see if you know this comes back

at some point Yeah, like I'm getting a pantheon

vibe from her in this scene, yeah very much so

Man like maybe she could replace oh that this

yeah And of course, you know her parting words

I must apart now my sons until we meet again

know that you all have made me very proud and

Please give your father my love as well You know

and never lose never lose sight of his love for

you so it's another one of those emotional things

where The TMNT people are basing basically kicking

us in the heart Bastards, I love you, but Damn

bastards. Yeah, and that's especially with the

the parenthood thing being what really brought

me back to the Ninja Turtles books, being that

I started reading them as I was a new father.

You know, I've got this little baby in my arms.

I'm reading issue four like their dad watched

them die. I can't do this. And then, yeah, they

they connect them to their mom. It's good stuff.

I think that's one of the wisest decisions. they

made so the the collectors end up in New York

and they end up facing off with Peter and he

is he of course is the distraction and the turtles

all have Donnie's buster weapons that they have

Basically turns into an all -out brawl to destroy

the collectors And and they're battling them

and the the the collectors dumb collectors are

saying like your weapons they hurt us But you

can't defeat us with it and it turns out that

the buster weapons were just the second distraction

while Rey and Egon Open up the teleporter trap

And that basically sucks all the Dunn collectors

in, and they're done for. Ha ha ha ha. Mikey's

all excited that, you know, they've won, and

it's a happy time, and everything else. It's

just one really weird thing. Ghostbusters? Uh,

no. No, that's not... not going to work so raf

is trying to make sure that the ghosts are stuck

in the thing and of course they are and ends

with them uh... returning to the other side of

new york or their version of new york and the

end for now anyway yeah this occurs directly

after trial for crayons so if you only read the

ninja turtles book they jump into the teleporter

and arrive back in new york but if you Read this

they had a little detour before climbing into

the teleporter and showing back up in New York

But the interesting thing that I think IDW Having

both licenses affords them the ability to do

is that they do make reference to yeah those

ghosts Fighting dudes that we talked to like

in the main turtle book They they refer to it

and informs their decisions. So that's kind of

neat that they are still able to Mention that

these things did in fact happen absolutely that's

that's the coolest thing about the turtles Ghostbusters

stuff at IDW is that they like you said no matter

what the crossover does you still get a buffer

between both series and I love the turtle stuff

I need to get reading on the Ghostbusters stuff

I just just have not just yet just as of yet

kind of a thing Yeah, they aren't going anywhere.

They'll be around. I think it's worth reading

if you enjoyed the old movie. I mean, the Ghostbusters

movies, both of them were a staple of my childhood

and the cartoon to a degree too. I had a good

friend who was a giant Ghostbusters fanatic and

I had the firehouse and he had Ecto -1 and we'd

put our Ghostbusters together and I'd go over

to my cousin's house for the weekend and we'd

watch those. R -rated movies that his dad recorded

off of a VHS thing from the rental store over

and over and over again Very very fun childhood

memories. Oh, they were PG -13 I think but they

are a hard PG -13 or I don't know hard PG I don't

remember I don't even think they had PG -13 back

then but It was a big part of my childhood and

and so I picked up the comic and was very pleased

What would you rate 0 to 5 for TMT Ghostbusters

2? Yeah, that's tough for me because, you know,

the crossovers, they don't get me excited. But

when I read them, I do enjoy them, and it's a

fun time. I think just for their ability to inspire

enthusiasm, I'll give it a 3 .5. But that 3 .5,

that's a high quality 3 .5. I had a really good

ride. Maybe maybe maybe maybe a four but three

and a half. I think is that's where I'll put

that Yeah, I'll put it in three and a half close

to four yeah, I enjoyed it I thought it was fun.

It was something different. It wasn't you know,

I Don't know. It wasn't your standard crossover

kind of a thing And it was fun it was it was

a new adventure with both teams and seeing various

things that They can do I thought the The coolest

thing that they did was the obviously the the

body swapping. I thought that was hilarious Yeah,

we could probably do there. There's more to do

with that that I think it wouldn't be It would

be a good thing to explore it'd be a fun thing

to explore especially in this they talk about

I think Donnie and Donnie and Winston were linked

in the head for a little bit they were using

their souls to distract the the collectors from

being able to find them and they're in each other's

head and they're they're sensing things they

know things and Raph and Ray connected and switched

bodies and they knew things about each other

that they wouldn't usually know there's That's

a neat way to handle the body switching that

they're literally getting inside their head and

they have this outside perspective that knows

everything and there's an opportunity for some

interesting character development to happen with

that. Absolutely there is. Alright folks, coming

up next is Amazing Spider -Man Red Goblin. This

is the final arc for Dan Slott. It's issues 794

to 801 of the Amazing Spider -Man run. That'll

be episode 339. More turtles coming, more everything

coming. I'm trying to think off the top of my

head what else. I don't know. We've got Mighty

Morphin March coming where we're going to talk

about the Power Rangers comics from Boom Studios.

After that, I honestly don't know. I have no

clue. I'm losing my marbles. I feel like toodles

over here. I'm losing my marbles. I just thought,

man, my son hasn't seen that movie yet. That

was really good. That's where I fell in love

with Maggie Smith. That lady is awesome. And

immortal as well, immortal. Yes, yes she is.

Uh, where can the people find you online, sir?

You got any geek sales you're doing lately? Uh,

probably gonna have a geek sale in June, but

I can be found on Facebook, uh, organizing that

page there. So facebook .com slash geek stuff

I am at TF2 and Mike on Twitter You can follow

at the pull bag for the show on Twitter at key

cast radio is the network Twitter? Catch us on

Facebook Facebook comm slash the pull bag and

Facebook comm slash key cast radio network Team

and T Ghostbusters 2 who knows if there will

be a team and T Ghostbusters 3 Mikey did mention

a trilogy he did he did mention a trilogy and

Yeah, I Who knows I mean, you know now that we

have Jason Reitman penning the third Ghostbusters

film I Saw that did you see the little teaser?

Yep. Oh My god I Am interested in what that's

gonna be, you know, can they can they pull off

something that feels like a Love letter. Can

they I you know, I don't know what to expect

I'm gonna not expect anything and we'll see what

happens when I see a trailer Yeah, the teaser

was was very interesting I Love the and I'm gonna

have to capture the sound but I love the the

proton pack sound at the end. I thought that's

good But yeah, Jason Reitman. Isn't he Ivan Reitman's

son, I assume? I would have to guess that he

is. I assume. I don't know. I'm not looking any

info up on him. What is interesting, and I don't

know if you saw this, several people I saw on

Facebook shared this. Leslie Jones, who played

one of the characters in the 2016 Fembusters

movie. Basically says oh, man. This is crap.

Why are you gonna read? She said something to

that effect of this is just weird This is just

this this is just that Think I I think I posted

about it on Yeah, the the quote I heard said

something along the lines of doing another Ghostbusters

with the original cast is something Trump would

do I'm like, yeah That's what it is. Yeah, that's

that's what it is. But there was where is it?

It's um, oh I shared it somewhere. Where the

hell is it? It's one of those things where okay,

so I shared it from a page and I quoted the Star

Joes. Star Joes on Facebook, who's my buddy Ryan

and Chuck, they say, not looking to spread negativity,

but where does she get the right to make this

complaint? Your movie ignored the previous movies

existed also. Yours was a reboot. This is a continuation.

Think before you speak. Yeah, she's basically

saying... And let's be like, I don't know how

you felt about the 2016 film. I don't know, I

spent too much time on it. Oh, UK, you never

saw it. I'm not a Melissa McCarthy fan. I don't

think she's funny at all. Kristen Wiig and Kate

McKinnon, they're funny. Leslie Jones is funny

to a certain extent. I did watch it. I actually

sadly do own it. You know, her actual tweet was

So insulting like fuck us. We didn't count. It's

like something Trump would do Trump voice gonna

redo Ghostbusters better with men will be huge

Those women ain't Ghostbusters. Oh so annoying

and such a dick move and I don't give a fuck

I'm saying something is what she tweeted Wow,

and I'm like, are you kidding me? I can seriously

I can see her point I can see her point of view.

Let's say it that way because from her point

of view, a whole bunch of people who liked Ghostbusters

got together and did this reboot. And I mean,

she sees it as a reboot. Like her characters,

the character that she played and the characters

that she acted with, she feels they deserve a

sequel. But, you know, with all the complaining

and yeah, you know, the internet got a little

nuts about... Why does it have to be for women?

Why can't it be representative of the population

and be well yours was all four men and you know

the back and forth of that and like okay right

or wrong the first movie was good and The second

movie or well my third I guess the that reboot

was what it was And but that then you know she

expects Sequel and we're getting the old stuff

back and she sees it as all of those whiny internet

people getting what they wanted out of it I just

I kind of wish that Oh my gosh Ray, what's actor

Dan Aykroyd would have gotten his his planned

third movie off the ground before Egon oh my

gosh. Why are these actors not coming to my head?

When he died when Harold Ramis to thank you died

I think I wish they could have gotten everything

off the ground then and I understand why they

didn't want to it's like they're out of shape

They're old the story's over, but you know that

would have been nice Yeah, I don't know what

they're gonna. Do I have no idea what what the

new Jason Reitman film is gonna be I know he's

writing and I know this I know that yada yada

yada The only thing I hope and I don't know what

I don't know if it's just gonna be the three

guys and bring somebody new in or something or

other The only thing I hope that they do with

Harold no longer with us if they want to get

a older version of Egon Fucking hire Maurice

LaMarche, please like seriously Maurice LaMarche

voiced Egon in several of the cartoon series,

he does a perfect Harold Ramis Egon. And if it's

a story of like passing the baton from the old

guard to the new people, have him - be be an

older version of the gun if that's possible i'd

by you know what i do i did that uh... that the

team is still together but you got the ghost

and he's still working for the ghostbusters and

have happy completely cg in marie's la marsh

can poison that'll work too that's that's the

easy answer although that i don't when you do

that with the character i think you you you really

oughta Ask the family, you know is this sensitive

can be good and yes. No, absolutely Yeah, I know

what I'm saying is to the in the producers and

right men and no one's ever gonna hear this but

what I'm saying is Obviously you ask the family,

you know, obviously you you you make sure kind

of a thing Because look, I mean if Egon was my

Ghostbuster man, you know, yeah People love this

character that you played ask the family and

Who knows I just don't want them to do something

stupid not saying they're going to but I Just

don't want them to do something stupid like make

Leslie Jones Winston's niece or whatever Yeah,

try to connect the universes. You know, let's

get a little let's get a little less force A

Force Awakens, no, the second one that I pretend

doesn't exist. Last Jedi. Yeah, a little less

Last Jedi, a little more Solo, a little more

Rogue One in the love lettering of that series.

I guess that's opinion too, because I don't know

if everybody agrees with me, but Last Jedi sucked.

I didn't like it. It was okay. It was better

than The Force Awakens, I felt. Yeah, okay, that's

a discussion we need to have. I'm not sure, but

otherwise neither of us will get to bed. Sleep?

What's that? Sleep's overrated. I don't know

what you're talking about. All right, Mike, do

you want to intro us into a new podcast? We'll

have this conversation right now, man. We're

so far from turtles now, you might as well. I

know. Well, actually, we can wrap it around the

turtles because I heard and I think I saw...

They're trying to reboot it again the the film

franchise with like I saw something about the

Like the production company could start new production

as early as like later this year or first of

next year or something and I gotta say right

off the bat. It's so weird that it's 2019 and

we're one year away from 2020 at this point Yeah,

man, that's just I just put that together like

20 I'm sure I've heard, you know, by the year

2020, we're going to have things and like it's

the future now, dude. It's the future. And I

can't really tell the difference between now

and the 90s. No, because I just want to go back.

I want to go back to my lower back stops hurting

when I wake up in the morning. Exactly. I want

to go back about a week back where I didn't have

a week back. Alright folks, we're going to get

the hell out of here. Join us next time for the

Amazing Spider -Man Red Goblin Arc. I don't know

who's doing that with me. It's either going to

be Ryan or it might be JT. I'm not sure, so no

clue. and please idw you are doing things with

marvel now so please get joe his tmnt daredevil

crossover that's right they uh because they have

the all ages they have the all ages marvel books

now idw does they're doing this new all ages

thing so they have a deal with marvel sort of

so tmnt daredevil um i need to go whisper in

the ears of some of my connections and see if

we can Weasel out if that's happening or not.
