About this Episode

TFG1Mike and Steve "Megatron" dive into the IDW crossover miniseries by Tom Scioli and John Barber, discussing how it blends the two franchises while maintaining its own unique story. They explore the 1980s-inspired art style, standout character moments like Destro's Cybertronian connection and Snake Eyes' injury, and why this self-contained story works as a great entry point for new readers. The episode also celebrates 10 years of All Things Transformers and covers news including the theatrical re-release of the 1986 Transformers film, the Beast Wars Megatron Masterpiece figure, and a deep dive into the Go90 Transformers animated series.

Hey everybody, this is Dan Gilbazan, voice of

G1 Bumblebee, and you're listening to All Things

Transformers. This is John Machida, Jr. I play

Blur in the Transformers while you are listening

to GeekCast Radio Network. Hello and welcome

to The Pull Bag, but this is not just The Pull

Bag. Even though this is The Pull Bag's episode

319, this is also the next All Things Transformers

episode celebrating 10 years of All Things Transformers.

That's right, folks. August 9th, 2008, Steve

Megatron started All Things Transformers. And

of course, you can't have All Things Transformers

without Megatron, so say hello, Megatron. Ha

ha ha ha ha. Excellent. Yes. Okay, you're supposed

to do that ironic thing where you say, Hello,

Megatron. I will say no such thing. I have a

penchant for intelligent conversation. And why

do you talk to yourself? I will not have witless

banter with you. Apparently you will. So Autobotly

August 2018 is continuing on here inside the

pull bag and on all things Transformers. We've

got... Two episodes released so far, and now

we talk about something that we both love. Steve

loves part of it more than I do, but... G .I.

Joe! That's right, G .I. Joe on a Transformers

podcast. What the hell kind of stuff is this?

Well, the Transformers did start out of a G .I.

Joe podcast originally. Or not podcast, but a

comic book in Marvel. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

So... Transformers vs. G .I. Joe. This is an

IDW 12 -issue miniseries, I believe, or 12, 13,

I don't know. Anyway, it was an independent story

set aside from the 12 or 13 years of IDW Transformers

continuity. Written and drawn by Tom Scioli.

I hope I'm pronouncing his name right. I've added

him on Facebook. I've asked him on Twitter. He

butchered it. Anyway. Butcherer. Of names. So,

yes, this was, like, I have not read it. I did

not. Transformers My Beginnings was the cartoon

series. It was not the Marvel comics. So, you

know, we covered that volume one that IDW re

-released, the Transformers U .S. classics, a

while ago in the pull bag you and I did. So I've

seen the old stuff, but I have not, I'm just

so far not into that kind of thing right now.

And when I saw they were doing this, I'm like,

oh, cool, I'd like to actually get into that

eventually. Of course, now it's like two years

later after the series is over or whatever it

is. I forget when this initially came out. But

yeah, what were your initial thoughts when I

asked you to do this? To begin with, I thought

it was the 1980s comic that I'd already read

before. And then I realized it wasn't. Mostly,

I mean, it takes a lot of cues visually from

the original 1980s comic where G .I. Joe and

Transformers crossover. And it also has some

elements of some other G1 Marvel comics involved.

uh with with some differences i mean it's it's

not completely like copied from various storylines

that have been through the tube but uh some of

it i was kind of like uh boo based on who they

killed off and um yeah so it was it was kind

of It was kind of different to check out. Yeah,

and that's the cool thing. I love that they did

this. So just for everyone that knows, Transformers

vs. G .I. Joe Volume 1 collects the 2014 free

comic book day issue along with Transformers

vs. G .I. Joe issues number 1 to 4. Again, written

by Tom Scioli and John Barber. Art, colors, and

lettering by Tom. Series edits by Carlos Guzman.

Cover artwork is done by Tom. I wasn't sure what

to expect out of this. I remember when I tried

reading the free comic book day issue way back

when that I did not like this at all. That very

first page of the prologue story where they're

like, like the little, you know, and then the

translation. I'm like, this is a really weird

way to read a comic. Like, having the bot sounds

and then the translation things. I didn't like

that, to be honest, but they did it in the 1980s

version. Right, and I understand that, and I

respect that, and I like it now. I didn't four

years ago. I'm fine with it now as I'm, you know,

getting into reading this now. I love the way

that this is laid out. I love the way, when you

read it in Comixology digitally, how the... The

guided view takes care of each panel. And it's

pretty much kind of set up as far as the panel

layouts and all that. Kind of like how the old

ones were a little bit. Not all the way through.

But I absolutely really enjoyed this. I thought

this was super fun. I enjoy, obviously, the Transformers

stuff more than the G .I. Joe stuff. And IDW,

not this story specifically, but the IDW continuity,

having humans in there has always been an issue

because it just is. The only way I've found that

it works is if the G .I. Joe are involved. Uh,

because unless it's like, uh, the Witwicky family,

not the movie, the live action movie crap, um,

the original stuff from the Marvel run, uh, it

kind of sucks. And so, um, and they, in the Marvel

run, they even brought in some, you know, like

version of the defenders type thing with circuit

breaker and various other characters involved,

but later on in the, the 70 sixties and seventies

issues. Um, but as a whole, I, I didn't mind

the, the eighties run. And then with, with humans

involved with that, the way it was written, um,

a lot of the modern stuff, like I haven't just

been able to get into. So it's not, and I know

predominantly it's just the transformer. So it's

not as big of an issue there. Uh, but when they're

doing crossover, I find GI Joe is the one that

fits the best. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, I've got

certain bullet point notes that I've gone through

here on each of these issues, except for issue

four for some odd reason. I don't know why. So

some of my notes from issue one. One issue in,

and I want to read this forever. The story is

a great mixture of the two brands. I thought

it was so cool. Love Ravage, Battles on Earth

between the Joes and the Decepticons. That's

nice. Tom's writing and art are a true testament

to both franchises. And next we go to Cybertron.

What did you think of this first issue and the

story set up? I wasn't sure what to think. It

did, like I said, look very 80s comic -ish, which

was different to go back to with your kind of

plain colored backgrounds for the most part.

or gradients and, and certain little, you know,

dot to dot to dot things. Um, the, the color

palette is very different, but, uh, I, I didn't

mind the story. It was kind of interesting seeing

how early they decided to jump in the GI Joe

run, uh, compared to other, uh, timelines where

Duke is pretty much the leader. Um, and you don't

have Hawk kind of running the show. Um, But it

was interesting in that aspect too. But I'm not

surprised Bumblebee started out because he did

in the original run too. And then in Play to

the Bumblebee in the original comic run, you

had the Seekers kind of searching him out too

to destroy him. So it's not much different in

any of the, you know, the G .I. Joe run or the

Marvel run of any of the series, no matter what

the Seekers are trying to kill Bumblebee and

usually succeed. It was nice seeing Cobra Commander,

albeit short -lived. Was not fond of the Baroness

Serpentor. Yeah, it was a little strange. I was

a little sad Cobra Commander bit the dust sorely,

but yeah. And then the fact that the whole thing

with the... the plants growing on the machinery

was a little disturbing and strange. I felt like

I was watching something from, uh, um, one of

the, uh, what is it? Uh, SWAT cats. Uh, yes.

Um, where they had that, that kind of stuff,

you know, Dr. Viper, Dr. Viper. Yep. Absolutely.

Yeah. And then you get, you know, Cobra commander

getting stabbed through the chest, which was

unfortunate. Um, And, you know, a different way

of Snake Eyes getting injured in this. Yeah,

I was super interested in that part of it because

I was like, how are they going to do the whole

Snake Eyes thing? And that was super cool. Yeah,

that was definitely different how they handled

that. And then you get to see Megatron basically

just like, I'm not getting involved yet. So.

And then, you know, you get more characters introduced

in the second one where, like, Destro's like,

I'm part Cybertronian. Like, no. I'm Destron.

I am Destron. Yes. Yeah, no, the way that Tom

writes this, the way that he draws and colors

it and all of that and does the lettering, I

just absolutely dig it. The story... engages

you to the point where, you know, if I was going

to show anyone any kind of quote -unquote one

-off Transformers thing right now, I would show

them this and I would show them Marigrid Scott's

Windblade stuff that you don't really have to,

like, spend, you know, X number of days or hours

catching up on the last 12, 13 years of what

IDW is doing. That being said, if you start with

the IDW continuity with the death of Optimus

Prime and then either verge to Transformers slash

Optimus Prime or More Than Meets the Eye slash

Lost Light, you'd be fine if you want to, you

know, one is basically politics on Cybertron,

the other is a space adventure in space. But

no, as a self -contained thing for this, This

is what I would tell people to read if they want

that traditional feeling Marvel stuff. I had

a hard time reading the Marvel stuff when we

did that episode in episode 105 of the podcast

or something way back when. I had a really hard

time with the Marvel stuff, but this is super

dynamic and really interesting and cool. Oh,

yeah. by the time they get to chapter three,

um, I think at this point, Megatron has his Bumblebee

necklace and I'm like, Oh damn. Like I know Bumblebee

died, but wow, that's a little creepy. Yeah.

And then Starscream has the Cobra Commander thing

over half of his face and whatever. And, like,

they start calling themselves Decepticobra. And

I'm like, oh, my God, this is just, in a good

way, this is just too much. How do you feel about

the art as we've gone along? It's still a little

jarring because I've hit this, I don't know if

it's age, where I just, I don't care for nostalgia

anymore. for visual nostalgia like certain things

I of course am going to enjoy more than if they

remade them however that being said like in my

comic books I don't quite jive with the old Marvel

style anymore but at the same time I don't necessarily

like the This the style of the current IDW run

either. So I'm not one of those. I'm not the

target demographic, so it doesn't really fit

very well with me. But the same time, I'm. I'm

kind of torn, like I like it because it's simpler

and there's a lot less going on other than the

million bubbles of. which is almost jarring,

and the announcements that, oh, so -and -so has

hit the scene by having the little title cards.

So on the one hand, I don't mind it, but on the

other hand, I'm kind of like, okay, I'm over

it. See, this is just so different from what

the current IDW universe is. I kind of like how

different it is. I kind of like that the title

card things are there. When we get into Chapter

3, the cover for that, it's like, Cybertron now

in color. I just love that. I think that's so

funny. I think that's super cool and interesting.

Yeah, the way the story plays out, it's interesting,

it's fun. The image of Destro in Chapter 3, where

he continually talks about Destro, gun maker,

Destro, life taker. At first, I thought this

image of him below where Megatron is. I thought

it was friggin' Mal from Captain Planet, Dr.

Blight's, like, seriously, the way that his face

looks and all that, like, I'm like, whoa, wait,

what the heck? And then I realized it was Destro.

Yeah, I'm surprised that I love the colors, I

love the backgrounds, and the good, like you

said, there isn't really anything to the backgrounds.

I mean, there is, but there isn't. It's more...

the pops of color on the bots and the Joes and

everything else. Um, I love the, uh, the, the

final page of, um, chapter three where poor sound

wave, he lost his head. It happens a lot. Yeah.

Oh, I'm sure. Now, I will say that I originally

thought that I wasn't going to like this because

it is the old style, but I just think it's just

super cool. I think it's super fun. It's different.

It's different enough that it takes you back

to the old days while telling a refreshing story

because Tom is writing his own story here. This

isn't like... This isn't like us going to the

next volume in the IDW reprints of Transformers

Classics and saying, oh, it's updated art, which

obviously it isn't. It's just reprinted from

the old Marvel stuff. This is a completely unique

and interesting and diverse story. And I just,

I'm super pumped that we've gotten this thing.

And I can't believe this got released three,

four years ago. Like, wow. yeah it i didn't realize

it was that far ago uh that it came out or that

long ago that far ago uh um but i think i may

have had the first issue i've never opened it

though yeah when when i had it like yeah um it

was one of those things i bought it because of

the cover which is like my my like ultimate downfall

when i'm i'm picking out things it's like i'm

like i like the cover because the art and then

like i don't open the book like it's just it's

there for like a poster piece and that's it so

yeah my favorite alternate cover was done by

was done by tom it's um Megatron and Optimus

with their Energy Mace and Energy Axe with Cobra

Commander flying in Starscream. That Starscream

and Cobra Commander are flying at you. That's

my favorite alternate cover from this. I thought

that was super fun and interesting. We will at

some point in the pullback. I don't know if it'll

be this year, folks. I've just got so much going

on inside this podcast. Be doing... more of these

volumes and to finish the story, but these first

quote -unquote five issues, because like I said,

it started with the free comic book day issue.

Really, really fun. Absolutely love it. I thought

it was super cool. I know I've said that about

a million times at this point, but that's just

the way I feel about it. Art is amazing. Story

is unique and diverse. When I first saw Shockwave

in issue 3, I was like, whoa, that's cool. Very

much enjoyed this. What would you give this 0

-5? i'd probably give it a four just because

it it kind of gives me the nostalgia feels with

it um and and the story is kind of interesting

the only gripes i had and why i have to knock

it down a little bit is um because of so many

word bubbles all over the place uh that i felt

didn't really need to be there in certain situations

uh especially when you had scenes where part

of the foreground would cover up the text right

uh which was kind of irritating when you're going

to read the text um from somebody and you can't

read half the words because it's printed underneath

the coloring right yeah um so that that's one

of my major gripes with it aside from that or

like bad aesthetics as far as when it's a red

room, they have like orange background around

it with black text, which makes it really hard

to see on some of the bubbles and a couple of

the things like during the plan area. But I mean,

it's overall, it's great. Those are just my main

pet peeves were like some of the word bubbles

mostly, which is why I have to give it a four.

Yeah, absolutely. I'm right there with you with

a four. Some of the word bubbles at first took

me off balance, but after a while I got used

to it. And I was mad that they killed Scourge.

Yeah, poor Scourge. Blew a hole right through

him. I'm like, no. At least it was Megatron,

but still. No, yeah. Maybe he'll come back as

Nemesis. You won't escape alive. Yeah, no. But

yeah, I mean, this was super fun. This was a

departure. Because right now, as you'll hear,

folks, here in Autobotly August on the pullback

and all things Transformers, Ryan, Mark Lee,

and I are starting the Optimus Prime and Lost

Light series, which are the new series after

More Than Meets the Eye and Transformers ended.

So there's a continuation. They just rebranded

the titles. So I'm reading those as well as keeping

current with the fact that the universe is ending

and Unicron is here. So going back and forth

is kind of... I don't know. So yeah. Yeah, they're

going to reboot the universe next year. And it's

not a bad thing. They're going to wipe them out.

Oh, no. Well, this... This story is ending and

some new story is going to happen. Whatever happens

next year will have nothing to do with the current

continuity. It's going to be a whole new continuity.

Yay, I can start over. Okay, but I think that's

a good thing. No, I said it's a good thing because

I don't want to go back over the last however

many years IDW's had it. 13. Yeah. I was a Dreamwave

subscriber, so... Well, see, here's the thing.

Like I said, you start with the Death of Optimus

Prime, and then you read a couple issues of either

one of the main ongoings, and then you pick one.

You can pick one and stick with that, or you

pick the other one and stick with that, or you

read them both. Like, it's not like you have

to read all of them. Like, Unicron, you can read

that without having to catch up, but you should

really, if you're wanting to read the Transformers

stuff from IDW, you should start at the beginning.

And at least it's only 13 years versus like 80

years of Superman or 80 years of Batman. Well,

I can't help Transformers gets rebooted every

few years. I have the 80s line and the 90s line

of Transformers comics. And to be honest, I would

be more interested if it was the sole Beast Wars

comic. Yeah, I mean. That's the only way I would

honestly like subscribe to a Transformers comic,

but I don't want like any like. cross -contamination

with like g1 okay like i just want straight like

animal beast right here's the thing i will try

to figure this out for you so you can read part

of this part of the wind blade story part of

her story with the colony of worlds and all that

one of the colonies that they um basically pull

into cybertron's council is called eucharis which

is basically the Beast Wars planet. Dinobot's

there, Cheetor's there, Optimal is there. You

know, all of those guys are there, which, you

know, it's cool to see them, but they don't play

a main, main role in the story because... It's

a cop -out. Well, no, it's not a cop -out. It's

an homage. It's a cool homage at the time, and

it really doesn't even matter. Because Unicron

eats all the colony world planets, so it's not

like it's going to matter in the end. Because

like I said, this is a set continuity that will

end. Good. I'll stop. That's what they get for

killing my friends in the beast planet world.

Boo! Wow. Okay. We're going to take a quick break.

Come back with some... All things Transformers

news after this. Die -cast construction. It's

a lost art. Don't string butt. Got a pair of

belly bombs here with your name right on them.

Eat them and win. I love you. Shut up, bitch.

I'm not done. They simply don't make terrorists

like they used to. And we are back here on all

things Transformers inside the pull bag. We've

got some rare Transformers news for the pull

bag listeners because I don't do any kind of

news on the pull bag. So what have you got for

Transformers news this time around, Steve? Alrighty.

So, well, there has been numerous things in Transformers

news from the 32nd anniversary of the film debuting

in theaters. Mm -hmm. Which, is that by you?

Mm -hmm. Yeah, I think it's just about everywhere.

Mm -hmm. Because I think it's even close to here,

but I honestly don't care enough to go. Oh, no.

You should go. Okay, so what he's talking about,

folks, is Fathom Events on September 27th is

nationwide, 500 theaters. They've actually expanded,

I believe, but right now, as of this recording,

when I saw the news article, It was a nationwide

500 -theater run of Transformers the Movie 1986

back in theaters for the first time ever. You

should check and see if it's by you. Oh, it is.

Okay. It's in three theaters by me. I did look.

Okay. I was going to say, because once I posted

about it, posted that I got tickets for my wife

and I to go, good old Matrix Prime from TFWire.

Good old Jesse. He chimes in and says, oh, it's

not in my area. And then, like, three days later,

like, after they went on sale August 30th, he's

like, oh, they expanded. I can now go. Woo -hoo.

I'm like, yes, cool, awesome. Yeah, they're going

to be in, like, for Michigan anyway. There's

only, like, I think three different areas. I

think Lansing, which has an IMAX. I don't think

it's going to be in IMAX, just at that theater.

Then there's one in Saginaw, Michigan, and then

the other one's in Flint, Michigan. Very cool.

Yeah, it's going to be the Shout Factory 30th

Anniversary HD. It's going to be the most recent

best version of the film. It's going to be the

remastered, all that version that Shout Factory

released on DVD two years ago is what's going

to be shown. So I am super stoked about that.

I cannot wait to go. When I found out that Optimus

Prime died, it was like 1987, and I already saw

that Duke lived. So when Optimus Prime died,

I'm like, that's not right. That's not true.

Just for you young whippersnappers, 1986, 1987,

a film that released in 1986. didn't get released

to VHS or Betamax until 87 or later because it

took a year and a half or more for things to

get out of theaters. Whereas now, it's like,

you know, six months. And, like, Avengers Infinity

War just released, and that just came out back

in, what, March or May or something or other?

I forget. But, like, yeah, so I'm super stoked

that I'm able to go see this for the first time.

I cannot wait. Yeah, I mean, it is exciting to

see that back in theater, for one, just because

it's basically the icon that, especially that

fanboys were screaming for, like, no, burn down

the movie franchise, bring this one to life.

So, yeah, it was kind of that element there that

makes it exciting. And then the fact that...

I bet it's going to make more than what it did

when it was in theater in 86. Do we even know

what it made in the theater? It says the film

came out on August 8th, 1986, which is actually

quite hilarious. Timing up with the all things

Transformers anniversary. It says 1986 at the

end of the summer, making only $5 .8 million

at the box office, which is below its production

budget of $6 million, which means that it technically

bombed. I mean, it didn't bomb, but it didn't

make money. Yeah, it didn't make money. Which

is sad, but... It was also movie fatigue because

kids were already seeing Short Circuit, Top Gun,

Space Camp, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Karate

Kid Part 2, My Little Pony Movie, The Greatest

Mouse Detective, Robotech, The Movie, Flight

of the Navigator, and Howard the Duck. Not to

mention that it was the ninth animated film of

the year at this point in theaters as animated

films like GoBots. uh why those are just knock

over those are just knock off kmart transformers

that's all those yeah um yeah kb toy transformers

um oh wait they had machine wars um caribou's

movie too heathcliff and several other films

so yeah i mean and then you had you know things

like star trek for the voyage home and little

shop of horrors platoon you know other crocodile

dundee so there was way too many movies in theater

that year um and so this unfortunately suffered

which Um, I, I estimate that this will make its

money back. Oh yeah. Cause now it's pure nostalgia

for all of us. It's fueled by nostalgia. Now,

I mean, I'm not saying that I wouldn't see it.

Um, but the, the same time, like it's, it's,

it's, it would be so close to what I can work.

I don't, I wouldn't make it like right to the

start anyway. So, but. I've seen it, thankfully,

enough that it doesn't faze me, but I'm not saying

that I wouldn't see it ever again. Because you

know they're going to do it again at some point.

Probably. And even if they don't, I own the movie.

I can pop it in my computer and watch it on my

own screen without hearing somebody making racket

in the theater. That's the one thing I can't

stand about going to the theater. Okay, and that's

true, but I zone out when I'm in the theater.

Most of the time, it's going to suck because

this is a 7 p .m. showing local time, whatever

the local time is for 7 p .m. That's what sucks

about it is that it is a 7 p .m. only showing

on July 27th. It's a Thursday. yeah well that

doesn't matter I know that matters for you but

it doesn't matter for me but like for me when

I go when I I've told Karen I said if we're if

we're gonna go see a movie we're gonna go at

like one o 'clock in the afternoon on a Tuesday

or something when no one is there um so yeah

But no, I'm super excited. I can't wait to see

it. It's going to be super fun seeing it on the

big screen. And hopefully I won't basically be

reciting the entire film as it's playing because

I can still do that. Well, coming from the same

guy that was quoting the movie on Twitter, his

computer screen was dead. Yes, yes, blindly.

Just doing it by sound alone. Exactly. that was

the whole okay so that's the whole point though

when i was a kid i wanted a tape recording of

the movie i was never actually able to get it

you know fast forward you know 25 some odd years

later to 2008 or 2009 or whatever it was and

i was able to get you know i i had the the the

20th anniversary edition that they had put out

from Sony, BMG, or whatever it was, and I'm like,

oh, I have Audacity. I can actually just let

the movie play, because I've seen it a million

times, and just record it and go away, because

Audacity records through my speakers, and I don't

have to worry about people interrupting, or sound

effects interrupting, or anything like that,

so I still have that original recording, and

I was playing it when my monitor went dark, and

I was tweeting the entire thing out. yes he did

yes i did yes yes he did i remember yes i know

what other news do we have for transformers right

now well aside from the idw transformers reboot

coming in 2019 um yeah i mean i i read about

that because obviously you know they're also

going to reboot the movie franchise after bumblebee

among other things uh then we have Takara Tomy

Masterpiece MP40. Beast Wars Megatron 360DU online,

and it's a beautiful figure. I like this toy.

It's so detailed. Ah, yes. It looks excellent.

Most excellent indeed. uh the dinosaur mode looks

great there's no robo kibble it looks exactly

like the cgi model which makes it uh spectacular

and of course these images are all over the net

right now um whether you go to like all spark

or tfw or any of them uh it looks infinitely

better than uh the original figure that i remember

having not only in color but in stylistic uh

capabilities that they have now compared to back

then it looked the original one looked atrocious

um with the amount of robo kibble that was available

and this one i mean some of the robo kibble like

the tail the funny thing is the tail looks almost

like exact from the original uh toy just based

on how it's uh the panels are on it just from

these images i'm saying um but it uh Then they

have a couple action poses showing where Megatron's

attacking Primal or Primal's lifting Megatron

over his head or Megatron's holding Dinobot's

head in his dinosaur head. It just looks awesome.

Can't wait to see this thing come out, to be

sure. And then, of course, Walmart, speaking

of toys, is getting the G1 reissued figures now

with really chintzy... packaging yeah um it makes

the the toys r us ones we we used to get um had

nicer packaging but these are purely it you know

like they have starscream they have bumblebee

they have devastator um they're they're basically

you know the og transformer g1 um and uh Instead

of the round corners and on the edges of the

box slap, they have sharp corners and stuff like

that. It doesn't matter to me. I would never

buy the G1 figures again only because you can

get Masterpiece and they're infinitely better.

But that's kind of where my nostalgia doesn't

really take place. I have nostalgia for the character.

In the original model, but I don't have nostalgia

necessarily for the design. Yeah, I can see that.

Or for the figure itself, I should say. And I

don't know if you've seen any of the stuff for

Transformers Evergreen. I have not. Okay. They

actually look halfway decent. It looks like if

they merged... more of the tf prime aesthetic

into the animated transformers animated look

like they're more they look like they're more

g1 but the color palette like the coloring that

they use is more in tune with animated so they

look more like their g1 counterparts but they're

um they're more like if you mix the modern comics

of the characters and kind of cartoonized them

just slightly. So they have Prime, they have

Bumblebee, they have Wheeljack, Ratchet, Hound,

Grimlock, Windblade, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave,

Shockwave, and they've inserted Barricade, which,

why? But yeah, so they've got these as their

starter figures, as it were, for the series.

So I'm impressed. I will see where it goes. Yeah,

I mean, I don't know. I think it's great that

the classic toys are coming back. And Hasbro

has done this before. Not this specific, but

they've done like, not generations, but like

the, there was one, there was things years ago

where it was like, you know, not timelines, but

it was like. Here, here's your nostalgia back

kind of thing. Like universe and timelines. Yeah,

yeah, yeah. They also have like Blur, Hot Rod,

Prowl, Acid Storm, which is a Seeker, Slipstream,

Seeker, Shadow Striker, kind of a weird Obsidian

slash Seeker, Thundercracker, and then Hot Rod.

involved so yeah i i'm looking forward to seeing

what this this series takes place as uh they're

going to kind of announce more uh as it gets

closer but um i'm kind of excited to see what

they do with it just because it's something different

very cool very cool have you seen uh power of

the primes yes so you've seen optimus primal

and so on I've seen it all. Okay, so we mentioned

this over on Altered Geek that Go90 was going

away and Go90 is now gone. Go90 .com, completely

gone. At the time when we reported that, you

couldn't even download the app anymore on your

phone. I still had the app on my phone. And sadly

now it's like, sorry, you'll have to find the

content elsewhere. So I burned through my favorite

series that I was already watching on Go90+.

I burned through. And I know I can go to Machinima's

YouTube channel and watch them there. Because

that's where I sent several other people to watch

them. But I... had the app and why not, so I

burned through all three series. The Combiner

Wars, Titans Return, and Power of the Primes.

And they're like 11, 12 minute videos, so it's

not like it, you know. I think Lady of Rec, Amy,

had did the math on it. It was like three hours

of content or something in the long run. Yes.

I love Ron Perlman and... I get that this was

a slightly different Optimus Primal, but I miss

Gary's voice. I did too. I was sad. I love Ron

Perlman. I think he did an amazing job, but I

think that Gary Chuck should have been the voice

on that. Yeah, I was a little sad myself, but

he did do a great job. I love how they took the...

uh unicron's matrix out of hot rod finally by

the end of it yep and then um i did not expect

megatron to lead them all and to sacrifice himself

and then prime to come back yeah uh i said after

i watched this i said it to amy nicole and heather

uh who are my fembots that i record the comics

with um After all these years, Megatron secretly

is the good guy. Like, it's just the way it is,

which is super cool because that's kind of how,

like, if you want a different G1 Megatron, read

the IDW comics. I can point you to the right

ones. Like, I can point you to the right point

to read it, but he basically takes over the Lost

Light from Rodimus. and they become kind of like

co -leaders, and he actually puts an Autobot

symbol on for the first time ever in the IDW

comics anyway. It's super fun, super cool. What

I loved about Power of the Primes was you basically

have Joker as Megatron. Or Megatronus, I should

say. Yeah, Megatronus. Yeah, that was real. I'm

like, all I can hear is the Joker. I'm just waiting

for the Joker to just pop out. Like, Megatronus

is a headmaster, and Joker just pops out of his

head. I can see that. Because Mark Hamill as

Megatronus, wow. I know you don't care about

this. I will mention this next week on the pull

bag as well, or a couple weeks from now, actually.

I did not know the voice of Predaking in Power

of the Primes is Samoa Joe from WWE. That's super

cool that Transformers and WWE now have a connection.

Very cool, very cool. Yeah, no, I love Power

of the Primes. It's my favorite of the three.

Oh, yeah, definitely. Yeah. Yeah. But, yeah,

I mean, I thought they did really well with it

as a whole. They did. I mean, there are certain

little things that might not make sense kind

of a thing, but other than that, it was really,

really good. I really enjoyed it. We may eventually,

myself, you, and somebody else, we may be doing

episode by episode, because they're short. We

may be doing episode by episode reviews at some

point on all things Transformers for the Power

of the Prime stuff. I don't know yet. Any other

news you got? uh nope i think that about rounds

it out all right well we're not rounding it out

just yet because holy crap is all things transformers

old yep oh my god it's 10 years man yep it's

old like wow i almost feel like going back and

cutting up the uh the ATTF This Is Your Life

episode I did where I put in all the old clips

at the beginning. I almost feel like putting

that right here. This is All Things Transformers,

Episode 1. Recorded August 9th, 2008. episode

of All Things Transformers. I'm your host, Steve

slash Megatron. The purpose of this podcast is

to feature discussions with other possible hosts

and fans on the Transformers as a whole. We will

also feature some small Transformer -related

news tidbits, but we'll leave most of that to

various other TF podcasts, such as TF Wire and

TF Anonymous. In case you're wondering, yes,

I am the same Steve slash Megatron from the TFWire

War Stories podcast. Yeah, no, I'm good. I don't

know. I might. Who knows? It's surprising it's

still going, to be honest. Well, you know, like,

it makes sense that I do the pullback Transformers

comics on both shows because, hello, it gives

ATTF more episodes. We're doing the Origins episodes.

We'll get more of those. In the future. And we

do news episodes. When there is news. And when

there's stuff that we want to actually talk about.

But I'm telling you. I gotta find a way to get

you into the IDW stuff. Because it is super fun.

It really is. It looks at all of these characters.

In whole different ways. That's kind of the thing

though. I'm not a fan of the aesthetics. of half

the cast which is part of what turned me off

to it like i used to get them during when they

did the spotlights uh and i tried getting them

when they first started up and then i just i

couldn't it didn't engross me any um i mean i

did like the mini series type stuff right but

beyond that i i never i never went into the main

series um just because it never resonated with

me because again, I was a fan of the old stuff

and I was really a fan of the dream wave stuff.

And I understood that, you know, it wasn't coming

back. But yeah, I mean, it's, you know, I know

I'm in the minority on that, but I kind of just

live with it. I don't have any regrets on not

collecting, but. Like I said, if they really

want to capture somebody like me, I want the

Beast Era. I care less about the main cast anymore.

They beat that with a shovel so many times, I'm

just tired of listening to it. Oh, righty then.

Just saying. I'm not a saying, but just saying.

Alright, folks. Who knows what's coming up next

on All Things Transformers? I do, because it's

episode 320 of The Pull Bag, continuing on with

Autobotly August, where Ryan and I dig into Optimus

Prime and Lost Light Volume 1, the first volumes

of each of these new series that they had done

a soft reboot on. So there'll be that. That's

what's coming up next here inside The Pull Bag
