About this Episode

Mike and JT discuss issues #6–11 of the 2016 Batman Beyond Rebirth series, following Terry McGinnis as he faces off against Curare and the League of Assassins while a dangerous prototype suit pushes him to his limits. The arc culminates in a confrontation with Damien Wayne and a shocking revelation about who's truly pulling the strings behind the Demon's Head.

This is Kevin Conway, and I am the goddamn Batman.

Hello and welcome to the poll bag this is episode

298 that's right 298 episodes folks. No you are

not Scratching your heads wondering what the

hell is he talking about? our good buddy optimus

solo has done some math i mean math and figured

out that all of the pullbacks episodes in the

five years we've been online equals up to two

ninety seven release to this point so this is

episode two ninety eight going forward the podcast

will just have one numbering scheme we will still

have back issue classics we will still have origins

we will still have all that stuff but they'll

just be under the regular numbering scheme as

well i'm of course tfg on mike joining me is

jt from saskatoon hello sir hello hello hello

hello and uh... we are back at it with batman

beyond rebirth we're going to talk about uh...

the uh... rise of the demon arc which runs from

issue six to eleven of the dc comics series uh...

it's been about six or seven months since we

did this the first time we did the uh... uh...

escaping the grave arc Back in May and June of

2017 so we're back at it with Batman Beyond And

Yeah issue six starts it off rise of the demon

part one The coming of curare. Oh boy. I love

this cover Oh, no, it's a great cover. I was

just gonna say, you know, if either of us were

died We'd be making a very inappropriate comment

about the cover right now Yeah, cuz it looks

like Batman has a dick in his eye Well, I was

thinking more just that you know the coming of

curare that too. He'd be snickering a lot It's

very messy. Yes, it gets everywhere But yeah,

I love the the base cover is great I like the

alternate cover where you know Batman's leading

off of this like Griffin like Gargoyle and roaring

into the sky wonder if its name is Bruce No It's

an old spider -man joke. I know it's a spider

-man joke, but this isn't spider -man now is

it? It could be Bruce Wayne who knows who knows

And I like how pretty much every Every issue

or the first issue of a story arc in any Batman

title has to mention decades from now. Well,

yes, we get it. It's the future. Yeah, in this

series it does, because I have no idea, like...

We went through this already when we did the

2015 series last year for Batman Month, because

that was what we were doing, and then we ended

it with the first arc of this series now with

Escaping the Grave, but like... For those of

you who haven't listened go back and listen to

those episodes for those of you who don't remember

What has happened or if you're not reading this

series basically? This is back when brother I

was around Tim Drake got flung into the future

yada yada yada and all this and all that well

now Terry's back in the suit and and everything

else and Decades from now they have to say that

because of the whole stupid dumbass watchmen

inclusion bullshit into rebirth so Don't think

it's really because of the watchman thing, but

that's a podcast in and of itself It's just I'm

just saying it's if you've read if you're a fan

If you're aware of Batman Beyond, you know, it

takes place in the future So why do you have

to keep mentioning it? But whatever, you know,

we start in neo Gotham We see some ninjas, you

know attacking Karate Mm -hmm, and it's I love

how for there is no escaping the League of Assassins

Yeah, there is no escaping the salvation army

Yeah, and Yes, this curary makes shirt work of

them. We get this guy fires an arrow out or looks

like one of the demons from 300 You know, she's

so good that you could she could throw a throwing

star to split the arrow and then take this guy

out and You know, she leaps off a roof and Nick

looks back it looks like she left off the roof

from that last episode of daredevil season 2

where there's like a literal butt ton of ninjas

on the roof, you know and You know we go back

Well, hang on a second here. So what I love about

this is What I've always found interesting about

Kirare is she was once a part of the League of

Assassins League of Assassins for those that

don't know they're ninjas they dress in black

like ninjas should unless you know you're a teenage

turtle but she's always been in white And I find

that an interesting stark contrast to each other,

like... I wonder when she was actually with the

League of Assassins if she had a black outfit

or not. I don't think so, I don't know. I mean...

It could be like the whole Moon Knight costume

thing, you know? He wants them to see him, he

wants the bad guys to see him coming, so... Yeah,

the thing of it is, and I'm pretty sure I'm right

in this, but Kirari... Was she is and was a creation

of the animated series? She wasn't around before

like she wasn't in comics before 1999 okay, so

yeah, I figured I was right in that so it's not

like we have 80 plus years of history to go through

to look at past versions of curare so Which I

think is kind of interesting. It's a nice little

little contrast. Yeah I agree that and I gotta

mention this like the police car she jumps off

to off the roof It looks vaguely like some of

the Cybertron Vehicle modes from like war for

Cybertron you play that game But you know from

there we go back to the Batcave I have to say

throughout this entire arc right off the hop.

I love Bernard Chang's art I don't think it's

in the previous arc I It wasn't so bad. I'd have

to go back and double check, see if they have

a different anchor on this, because I think overall,

it's still Bernard Chang. It's just maybe a little

softer or a little more animated. But we go back

to the Batcave. Bruce has been recovered from

terminal. You get a nice establishing shot of

the classic icons of the Batcave, that being

the giant. Joker card in the t -rex t -rex and

the only thing that's missing is that is the

coin where the hell is the coin? It's the background

shot in one of these issues. Yeah Marcelo My

alo is the colorist on this. I believe Marcelo

has been with them It's been Dan Juergens Bernard

Chang and Marcelo for the longest time. So I

don't think the color slash inker stuff has changed.

Maybe Bernard changed the art style a little

bit, because Bruce doesn't... You look at the

close -up on Matt, Bruce, and Max here, and that

shot of Bruce doesn't really... I'm not expecting

Bernard and Marcelo to directly rip off of the

animated series style from Bruce Tim, but...

Don't know that that angle of Bruce doesn't really

look like Bruce Wayne to me. He looks like a

really really old Kevin Bacon kind of character.

I I Still think it looks like Bruce, but it's

like that first arc that we you know, we looked

at yeah It's he's not chiseled a lot of characters.

They're not chiseled out of stone Is the best

way to describe like they had this very? like

Granite like consistency to the art like it's

just like a lot of hard edges You know Bruce

turns the right way. He could probably cut somebody

with that chin Yeah, so but you know Matt and

Max are You know, isn't it great to be back.

Mr. Wait sure is great to be back. Mr. Wait,

huh? She huh? Huh? Huh? And it's like Okay. Yeah,

and I like how he doesn't immediately turn around

and give them the hairy eyeball. He's just He

this is a softer kinder Bruce Wayne no less crotchety

but a softer kinder Bruce Wayne and and I love

the the whole thing like I'm great you know he

didn't change a thing it's like you know it's

Terry didn't keep everything the same the back

cave was never a hangout for friends and family

and then right on cue Terry pimps in with Dana

and Bruce you you know in the back of his head

he's like resin resin freaking freaking And I

love the look on Dana like Chang's are Dana's

got this look as if she could give less of a

shit Yeah, like I that's one thing I don't like

like I like all the other designs on Terry on

Bruce on Max on Matt Dana Does not look like

Dana to me in this Well, she looks like a real

person It's not even that and we and we've talked

about this before and other things that have

you like Eventually, I'm gonna have Ryan Merkley

on here We're gonna talk about the Star Trek

comics for mighty W But when I've read a several

of the Star Trek comics the art style is photorealistic

Like we talked you and I did something that was

photorealistic It might be one of the Iron Man

things or something where I found it a little

jarring like I get it. She's supposed to look

like a real person real persons can look like

What Dana is supposed to look like from the series?

I'm not saying that that has to be that way I'm

just saying this picture of her coming in of

the two of them coming in She just she looks

like a 14 year old bitch in this shot. It just

doesn't look right right well, I didn't get that

feeling but It just looked like she can give

the one thing I do love as terry's coming down

the stairs the shot of that one, you know, we

kind of see like the og batmobile in the back

corner and then they got this other one on a

platform that looks like a batman beyond version

of the batmobile from like arkham knight You

know, it looks kind of badass and you know, it's

got the giant tractor tires in the back, but

you know bruce and terry kind of Commiserate,

you know where we have a lot in common beyond

being Batman It's just you know, they're just

trying to get their foot get it get on equal

footing again You know after everything your

brother I and Bruce being held by terminal I

Don't they mentioned the money a couple of times

or at least terminal taking his money I'm assuming

he got that back, you know, maybe that'll happen

in the next arc but I like how Dana's like wow,

I'm in the Batcave and You know, it's a tape

Dana and Terry, you know go off To talk about

and then Terry turns around and hugs Bruce and

he's got this look at his face is like I Don't

know what to do here. Yeah, and I love the line

before that wait here so we can talk later Bruce

Question mark wait here where else would I go

like that's that is so Bruce Wayne like seriously

yeah well one I read that and I thought where

else I'd go well you can go to the bathroom can't

you Bruce and also the whole where Terry hugs

Bruce I got a friend of mine here in Saskatoon

who is essentially he's Saskatoon Batman he goes

and does appearances at charity events and kids

birthday parties it's like Toronto Batman here

in Canada and You know, I've been to a couple

events where you pose he's always happy to pose

for pictures So I got a friend of mine take a

picture and I you know, I hug him and afterwards

he's like Batman doesn't hug Yeah, and I'm just

kind of like oh Batman but I like the ego we

get back into Gotham City, you know, we see Barbara's

hard at work They bring up the fact that the

the Joker beat terminal to death with a crowbar

Because the image of the Joker beating someone

to death with a crowbar in a Batman comic is

something that'll never die. Of course not. Yeah.

And then Barbara goes into her office and straight

gets jumped by Kirari. She's like, I totally

need your help. I come in peace. Yeah, yeah.

My intentions are peaceful Barbara Gordon. I

was like, you straight booted the door into her

face and tore it off the hinges. And you're like,

yeah, I need you to do me a solid right now.

Assassin's just so presumptuous. But, you know,

we go when we get back to the Batcave and they're

going over. Terminal and I like how they took

like panels from the previous arc to put in the

screens. And I like how Bruce, it doesn't matter

how jacked up he's been. He's still Batman. He's

like talking to Matt. He's like I was in a fog

coming out of the drug -induced coma, but I heard

his laugh It was the Joker and I was like So

you've been hopped up on goofballs for a few

years now You've barely woke it up. You're like,

no, that was the Joker. I was like god damn Bruce.

You are the man. Yep And I like Matt so it's

true You really used to be the Batman? I mean,

it's kind of hard to imagine. And Bruce is like,

mm -hmm. Like, yeah, just don't stick the knife

in there or anything, Matt. Like, you know? Yeah,

well, but again, you know, Matt, this is all,

that's one thing that's kind of interesting to

me is, you know, we mentioned it earlier about

Dana and her being all new to this and she and

Terry needed to talk. And the same thing with

Matt. Like, Matt was never in on the secret from

the beginning. And again, I look at all of the...

Batman Beyond comics from DC at this point as

Lead -ups or continuations of the animated series

so I'm also taking into account all of that continuity

as well and It this is a huge change for everybody

because not everybody knew You know and Matt

goes on to say about his suit, and got shredded,

and they found the experimental one, and Bruce

is like, the experimental one? Describe it. And,

uh, that's the one, the X7. Now that you mention

it, he was wearing it when he saved me from falling

to my death. You sound kind of worried, Mr. Reed,

why. You know, and Bruce is like, it's a prototype,

Matt. One's so dangerous to its wearer. It might

get Terry killed boom boom boom and Next proceeds

if this was an episode this first issue or two

issues of Batman What proceeds next could easily

be about? Five ten minutes of an episode where

Barry makes the longest concerted effort of any

Animated character calling himself Batman in

the history of the medium where he actively fights

against putting the costume on Because he like

he is Committed to this, you know, he wants to

be with Dana. He's trying to make the relationship

work, you know, I'm not gonna go running off

and doing this and then we go back to GCPV where

Barbara and Karari are gonna turn on the bat

signal. They're surrounded by death and just

vaguely reminds me of that scene from the first

Ninja Turtles movie where Rafa is like, yeah,

how do you guys expect to beat me? Good answer,

good answer. and then it intercuts between Dana

and Terry talking mostly Terry and Barbara and

curare kind of getting worked Yeah Yeah, they

got worked over really really hard like you said

it intersperses between that and Terry and Dana

talking because the whole point of the conversation

is Dana wants Terry to basically you know Give

it up and she basically tells him you enjoyed

being Batman and and all of this and by the end

of this He he's like, oh, I don't have to go.

It's okay because they see the signal after this

giant fight with the with the League of assassins

here And honestly, I love the design of the assassins,

but I mean Chang I'm not saying he's ripping

off ripping off, but they basically look like

the demons from the movie 300 Yeah, you know

just the basic it's not exactly that but it's

you know It's a hell of a coincidence is what

I'm saying and I love during the fight just Barbara's

like the League of Assassins Really? Um Okay,

Barbara, I'm fairly certain you knew curare was

part of the League of Assassins, you know, yeah

You know that that that famous oracle mindset

seems to be slipping a gear there but uh You

know we we get back to it like they're going

back and forth and and I like where data calls

on terry is like Why are we here? What do you

expect of me and terry responds? It's what I

expect of me. That's important and I mean at

first blush that sounds really arrogant, but

it I don't ultimately it isn't because terry

is You know, he's trying to be a mature, responsible

adult. Yeah. And she asks him, do you think you

can give yourself a fair shot? And then the signal

lights up and... Oh no, classic timing. Looks

like you have to go. No, no I don't. Not this

time. I'm willing to sacrifice, do what I can

when I can, but I can't totally lose myself in

Batman. Besides, how bad can it be? Dun, dun,

dun. There are three, there are very few things,

but three that I can think of that you never

say in a situation like this. How bad can it

be? It's quiet to quiet, and I'll be right back.

You know, and I mean, that's, that's a great

way to end that first issue. Like I liked it

a lot. I like When we get to the second issue,

you know, number seven, I like the kind of rom

calmness of the cover with Dana pulling the cowl

off of Terry and the assassins in the background.

He's like, uh, yeah. And it's like, do I kiss

her? Do I fight the ninja? Do I kiss her? Do

I fight the ninja? Can I kiss her and fight the

ninja? Probably, you know. And I got to say because

I have like the actual physical individual issues

for this I like on there's an ad on interior

cover for The from one of the young animal series

from DC. It's a kind of an imprint sort of thing

headed by Lee Michael already they had the already

but it's the guy from my chemical romance. I

can't forget his name that Kind of has become

a comic creator in the last few years But yeah,

he's like the head of that. Yeah, it's I first

of all I was going to this a because it's the

all reds and I really do think Mike all reds

art is kind of the heir apparent to Kirby it

just seems like the most perfect fit for anything

fourth world and the fact that they're writing

this character who is never my favorite new god

character, but There's a miniseries from the

80s called Cosmic Odyssey that I read as a kid

that really kind of affected me in terms of being

a fan and The storytelling and bug was a big

part of that. Yeah, so if you can read that folks,

I highly recommend it We get another alternate

cover also I've seen online Yeah, it's a little

Minimalistic in a way. It's just kind of like

You know, it's Batman fighting, there's falling

through the air and fighting some of the ninjas.

Yeah. It almost reminds me, it's almost like

they're trying to do a shattered glass kind of

Grayson's moment, because it looks like, the

way this cover is, folks, it's all grayish, brownish,

tanish stuff, in the middle there's a red circle,

and... they're almost kind of standing on a high

wire kind of a thing or at least Batman is but

yeah it was all right it's not like whatever

meh pretty much yeah and you know pardon me but

we open as Bruce in the study sitting before

the fireplace you know because he's old and those

bones get cold pretty easy and he's reminiscing

and I like the it all in like a two page spread

we see a minimalist again, but a very accurate

kind of timeline of Batman in a way, you know,

we see the the way the parents death we see the

the Golden Age costume, you know, he of the You

know that the Justice League unlimited like weather

vane bat cowl and the purple gloves. We see the

progression of Robbins The only thing that and

then this is very nitpicky quibble We have Duke

who's a character that was introduced in the

we are robin series and has since become part

of the bat family He's an african -american character

And the coloring in this that that is not an

african -american character in that suit Yeah,

you know, so I was just like, you know, get on

get on the ball there boys You know, Marcelo,

pay attention. And then Max comes in from the

Batcave and they've still got, you know, just

like the animated series, just like classic Batman

lore, the entrances behind the grandfather clock.

And, you know, she's definitely, you know, it's

great to see you back, Mr. Wayne, and trying

to be nice and all that, and comforting, and

Bruce is like, you know. He admits to the fact

that he was too hard a taskmaster which for me

It's not explicitly that I take that as kind

of a call back to You know the second part of

rebirth is like I can be a difficult taskmaster.

I expect nothing short of excellence and Absolutely,

I like that Absolutely, it's very much paying

attention to the continuity and all that And

he makes reference, you know, I treated him as

if he was a younger version of me Which is the

clearest a pretty clear delineation between this

and the animated series where in this continuity

Terry's dad's reproductive DNA was not rewritten

by an aged Amanda Waller Yeah, and this is like

You know it which is why I think it's a lot easier

for the writers like Dan Juergens and other people

who have written the Batman Beyond comics to

Allow Terry to be His own Batman versus the enemy

at series where Terry was his own Batman, but

he was still firmly of the Bruce Wayne variety

And I think that's still true here. I really

do I they haven't flat -out said it They mentioned

Terry's father here, but I do think by the end

of this arc that is also true of the fact that

the DNA was rewritten. It just has not been revealed

in this story because this is this whole timeline

thing is completely different from the Kyle Higgins

run. Kyle Higgins run was specifically continuation

of the DCAU version whereas this is doing things

slightly different in different ways so maybe

that comes up later it just hasn't been revealed

yet but By the end of this arc, and I know you've

already read it, and people that are listening

to this haven't, but he basically says it's almost

like I have two sons. So... Oh, yeah, no, that's,

uh... You know, it's a topsy... It's a wibbly

-wobbly, tiny -wimey sort of thing to borrow

Dr. Who vernacular. But Matt comes running in,

it's like, Max, Mr. Wayne, we got a problem!

And I wanted to say it earlier, but Max is...

Not okay a he's not nearly the annoying little

butt stain that he was in the animated series

and I know he was Sorry, I meant to say that

but you know And I know he was only like a kid

and he's at you know, three or four years older

now So he's a teenager or practically a teenager.

It's just I like the whole Classic Jimmy Olsen

like quality that Dan Juergens has written Matt

with absolutely, you know It's like I got your

coffee chief don't call me chief So funny you

mentioned that because 2018 folks is the 25th

year anniversary of Lois and Clark the new adventures

of Superman And I've been going back and rewatching

that series again for the upteenth time I haven't

done it in a few years, but I did it I think

back in 2009 2010 And the first guy that played

Jimmy I forget what his name was in the first

season But he was okay, but Justin Whelan is

Jimmy and that series is so much better I kind

of like see don't get me wrong. I I haven't watched

the lowest in Clark in years and I recently started

a watch through of Smallville myself and don't

get me wrong Justin Roiland the original Jimmy

and again, I can't remember the actors name either.

I kind of liked him more Because I like that

more kind of modern take on Jimmy that he was

doing, you know He's not not quite a sleaze,

but he isn't the purest the driven snow that

you know Roiland did and Don't get me wrong.

I I like at Aaron Ashmore's take on Jimmy in

Smallville but Roiland he has that I think he's

the right mix overall of modern with classic

Jimmy Yeah, you know and this is at a time in

the comics too and we'll get back Batman just

a sec folks This is at a time in comics where

Jimmy had quit being a photographer and he was

kind of an on -air personality for WGBS and You

know, they were trying to evolve him, you know

how Jimmy Olsen was Before they invariably find

some excuse to make him a photographer again,

which isn't really a bad thing. It's just It's

he's a great Jimmy is what I'm saying. But you

know, we get Matt bring them back to the bat

caves Says the signals been on for 10 minutes

and Terry hasn't responded, you know WTF And

then Bruce is like see if any of my satellites

are still around Matt's like you have your own

satellite That satellite battle light It's all

about the branding Absolutely, you know what

the crazy thing is the the first Jimmy Olsen

just to go back to that really quickly Michael

Landy's or land. It's not land is it's Landy's.

So yeah He's 45 Justin Whalen who was the second

one 43 Jimmy's old at this point. Oh god Yeah,

it's just Jimmy Olsen man He's a survivor, but

you see I like how Terry is like it Dana's like

you should go it might be an emergency is like

Terry it's always an emergency you know and I

like that second panel Terry's got this very

annoyed look on his face he's like god damn it

Bruce and and he's got some legitimate concerns

because he's afraid if he all he has is Batman

he's gonna go nuts and We get back to Kirari

and Barbara continuing getting the work over.

I mean, Barbara's awfully taken, obviously taken

more hits than Kirari, you know, given her own,

but she's still, you know, given her. And then

you get back to Dana and Terry and Terry, they've

got the cell phone cards, which made me think

of like the Avengers communications ID card in

Marvel Comics. Right. And he's like, Nope. Ignore

and Bruce is like resident president frickin

frickin You know, you could see I love that shot

of Bruce where he is just he's peeved right now

he's like god damnit Terry answer the damn phone

so he calls Dana and Dana is like, you know,

Bruce is really overstepped his bounds and Dana's

like Terry bad things happening go do and Then

he's like, oh shit Yeah, cuz then this giant

bat computer thing comes up and It's basically

Bruce's face on the top there and yikes. Yeah

Sorry, just a bit of a sneeze there. I do love

the It's classic superhero arrival of Terry Where

he dives in Chiara is like the league is here

because of me I'm sorry and terry's well that

makes two of us and just like dun da da da And

everyone's like batman Almost like that assassin

is finally Yeah And I love you know, I said it

before that and when you mentioned it too in

last art, but this dx7 suit It kind of vaguely

Looks like a symbiote with like the tron like

power lines. Oh, yeah you know, everything. But

again, maybe I have to go back and check who

was the colorist on that first arc if they had

a different anchor. It might even be just like

the coloring process. But again, like the art

is softer and it doesn't annoy me as much this

arc and particularly this design of the suit

as Terry goes in and lays waste to the The ninjas

yeah, the assassins and Matt's telling Bruce,

you know, it's intercom with Matt telling Bruce

We've the other suit was shredded. We found this

in the vault and you know, Bruce is like no one

should ever wear this suit and You know Terry

just he works these guys like he's the Christian

Bale Batman Yeah, like you know what that scene

where he it looks like he's popping like M &M's

out of the belt You know and throws them in there

at grenades, and he takes out the bat signal

You know time for a hands -on approach, and he

pops like you know these even wicketer looking

talons which also, maybe it's by virtue of the

art or the the gauntlet Flanges or whatever you

call those right and then he goes to Wolverine

Like he goes yeah, he goes straight Wolverine

on these guys And then you see the aftermath

and, you know, literally Terry's come in and,

uh, fucked these guys up? Pretty much, yeah.

And Kirari gives him this scroll vid screen kind

of a thing to, uh, show him that Ra's Al Ghul

is alive. Dun, dun, dun. And, uh, I can totally

hear... And once we get to the reveal of who

is truly beneath the Demon's Head mask, I don't

want to spoil it too soon here, I imagine there's

some sort of voice changer built into this mask,

and that is David Warner. So if this was the

animated series, I would totally hope they could

get Mr. Warner back, because we need the one

true Raish. Yep. I mean don't get me wrong. I

love Gotham folks and Alexander Sedig. Dr. Beshear

from DS 9 is a great actor and he is clearly

enjoying the hell out of the role but No, I'm

sorry that there is but There is but one as there

is one voice of Batman. There is one voice of

the demon's head. Yeah but there is Yes, you're

right. There generally is one voice of Batman,

but there's another voice of Batman, because

I don't think Kevin Conroy can pull off... You

wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts! That's the only

thing I don't think Conroy... I don't think it

would come across as well with Kevin doing it,

but... I agree. Adam West made that line sound

really good. Uh, what? No, Michael Keaton, you

jackass. Adam West is dead. And Adam West said

that line. No, he didn't. Yes, he did. Have you

not seen Rise of the Caped Crew or Return of

the Caped Crusaders? I have, but that movie was

too awful. Are you high? That was beautiful.

No. Oh, we'll have to do a review on that. It's

already been done. That movie was just too...

It's not about who's in it. or the voicing or

the animation, it's about the fucking story.

That movie is too goddamn long. Like, it's seven

episodes of the television show put together.

It reminds me of Gotham Knight. It's six things

trying to mesh together, and it's not at all.

Anyway. The turn of the caped crusaders is barely

over an hour. Yeah, well, that's too long. It

should've been 40 minutes. Anyway, we get to

the next issue, which, uh... I love this cover

you know Batman's sprouting these big hero 6

wasabi style back blades out of his hands with

a bunch of the assassins in the background Did

they have alternate covers for this? Because

I didn't recall seeing an alternate cover for

this. Yeah, there's one. There's one. It's basically...

It's similar to the last one. It's him standing

in the middle of two of the... It's a red kind

of... It's a grayish cover with him in the center

and two demons or whatever. League of Assassins

in red and black coming at him. It's not that

impressive. Okay. So we start off with decades

from now yeah as they have to keep reminding

us Well again, you got to remember we're covering

these all as one arc and these come out monthly

so Not everyone is going to be reading this series

which why they aren't I don't know why but yeah,

but yeah Bruce imploring Terry to you know get

this dangerous prototype off and Terry says no

because race is alive. I got a deal with this

But I like how Bruce is like no, but you have

to come back Terry we can deal with Ross later

and race get it right race Ross, whatever no,

it's not there's It's race damn it Anyway, so

Ubu's son shows up and you know Decides to destroy

everything Which well, yeah, and I love his name

is Kouru Nobu Okay, you got to keep that brand

alive. I do like that When he calls traitor I

thought of that one scene in the force awakens

Where you see the you know you get the one stormtrooper

he sees Finn he pulls out like the anti lightsaber

nightstick Yeah, and but yeah, he destroys Well

he doesn't destroy Karari's craft I thought he

did but he like leaps off and he's got like these

energy enhanced blades and You know him and Terry

go at it and I like how As good as he gives Terry

and Karari are just able to give that much more

back until somebody gets run through with a blade.

Yup. Yikes. Yeah. It's just like, damn, for an

all, it's not specifically a kid's comic, but

it doesn't have like, you know, nobody under

the age of 13 will be permitted to enter. on

the cover it's just like you do not expect to

see this i mean okay yeah terminal had it coming

and it was the joker you just didn't think curare

was gonna get stuck like a pig on a spit yeah

true but then you know terry's in the craft and

curare is already programmed to take it you know

back to I don't know. It might be Nanda Parbat

for all we know. It's never specifically mentioned.

It's a stronghold of the League of Assassins

and he's trying to, you know, get out of the

craft and the suit starts pumping him full of

like drugs or whatever it, that are affecting

his nervous system to calm the F down. And then

Bruce kind of gives him the skinny on why and

how he created the suit. So and I guess this

would be you know If you were to fit this into

the say the the story of the animated series

were to happen in this timeline obviously with

differences This would be after Bruce You know

saved the heiress in the beginning of rebirth

and before he died Yeah, he gave he gave it that

one more college try And he says he fought the

Bane's I was like ooh what do these young whippersnappers

look like and then it's you know next -gen versions

of Bane and even got a couple of like you know

Ronda Rousey wish she was this swole like god

damn these are gonna wreck some places and you

know Bruce wears the suit all of one times and

it talks about how he had broken ribs Suit doesn't

let you feel pain broken spine. It'll keep you

propped right up You know and I'm just kind of

like ooh that just just and this is a flashback

and you already get a sense of the danger of

this suit and I imagine like after he gets back

to the cave and it's like sitting there after

he managed to get it off because the suit was

somewhat compromised you would have that where

you know never again and You know he shuts it

all down So it kind of kind of goes in, you know

keeps going Why didn't you destroy it? Well,

I was trying to fix it and You know then shit

happened and I got busy And everyone's like yeah,

we got a You know, we have to save Terry and

you see Terry flying in You know, I like how

they never give a name to the AI in the suit

And I think that made it a bit scarier that they

didn't unlike like the Alfred AI that comes back

Further along here in the series, you know, then

it makes it a lot scarier But I would say if

this was part of the animated series. I could

totally hear Jeffrey Combs voicing the suit When

it comes to Batman Beyond when it comes to the

and I again I get it it's It's always gonna come

back to DCIU for me and I get it he's not with

us anymore, but it's always going to be Ephraim

Zimbalist jr. Jeffrey Combs would be interesting

but Well, I mean for this AI I mean obviously

if we can have Ephraim voicing like the Alfred

AI will Duh. Oh, you mean for the evil AI. Yes.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,

yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, Audio would indicate

surface to air missile boom and Terry's like

thanks for the heads up Yeah, but you know he

gets in he pops his talons again you know he

goes to town and We see Bruce like he's about

to take off and max is like no no let's be sensible

about this You don't want to go running off half

-cocked and Bruce is like cool Yeah, you're right.

You guys want to go upstairs, make some snacks

and coffee, you know, we'll get to work on this.

And as soon as they're in the kitchen, Bruce

is like, no GTFO. Yeah. And I like this Terry

goes in and this is definitely like you see how

the suit is making him more brutal and vicious,

because, I mean, this scene is literally bloodier

than the carnage on top of GCPD. You even see

one of the demons with, like, a sort straight

ram through the top of his head. Yep. You know,

and he comes face -to -face with the demon's

head, who's like, Pretender! And again, we all

hear David Warner. Yep. And... You know they

get the fighting it's a it's it's a better fight

overall that we've had so far because it's now

carries up against something That he hasn't necessarily

faced before right and I think in the animated

series aside from the Lady you're really creeping

me out you she kissed me episode And y 'all know

which episode that is. I like you know, the the

green and gold color scheme which goes to I can't

remember the character. It's where Terry faced

the cult of Cobra. And you have Alexis Denisoff

Wesley from Angel. Oh, yeah. God, what was his

name? I know what you're talking about. You're

talking about the kid that is the actual being

groomed to be the leader of Cobra. Yeah. And

that's like the closest that Terry. Actually

fought like a race like character aside from

when he actually fought race, but anyway, I appreciate

the design It's kind of for me. It's a callback.

You know, the demons head is Taking out the bat

rang batarangs with his pole and then he knocks

it off in the fight and it's bum bum bum Damien

way or Damien l ghoul Depending on Which side

of the family he wants to be a part of this week

But I love that that final reveal where he's

standing over him like not Given two shits. He's

in no way cowed or amazed by the suit Yeah It's

a great way to end that issue it is it is a very

good way to end that issue I liked it I like

Was not expecting them to bring back the original

race at all, and I'm glad they didn't Wasn't

necessarily surprised that it's fucking Damien

because You know go from being Robin to Being

the demons head yeah sure fine great Well, I

mean technically in the mainstream continuity

both Just before and post flashpoint Damian was

Not so much meant as being the air race as being

spare body parts But that's a whole that that's

a whole thing, but you know we get on to issue

nine of the demon lives I love the cover I have

where you know Batman's being swallowed up by

the snow and the Himalayas and Yeah, Amy and

standing over with this badass looking sword

ready to strike the final blow Yep, and we We

open it up and when did this take place Mike

I forgot We open it up and never expected this

is that that's who I think it is right retina

scan and voice analysis confirm identity father

Bruce Wayne mother Talia al Ghul maternal grandfather

Rachel ghoul Yes, McGinnis, it's me Damien Wayne.

I've wondered about you junior. I wonder what

wondered why I got the suit and you didn't The

answer is simple pretender I did And and again,

that's like a classic That this kind of two -page

thing here This is not just a classic comic book

image of the hero and villain ready to do battle

This is an image straight out of some old chops

chop Saki Shaw Brothers Kung Fu classic like

you know, the hero and the villain going going

to battle like that and again, this is a Very

good, you know Bernard Chang's art, you know,

the way the panels are split up and not in a

conventional Kind of four panel comic book comic

book structure. Yeah, they've always done this

I mean Like the way I read these is unguided

view on comixology and the point where Damien

says stay back. I will deal with my father's

emissary alone You get you know Terry flying

at him emissary Bruce has no idea I'm here, and

then it's like three short panel four short panels

before it goes to a larger Thing here. I do absolutely

love how they do that. I've always liked how

they've done that in this series. Oh, yeah and

But I mean, it is a fairly pitch battle. And

I like the one image before he makes the hole,

before he makes the emissary comment. Yeah, that

scene where Terry does that wide sweeping blow

and how the suit pops out the wing like a blade.

I love that part. That looks kind of deadly.

And who's to say popping it out at that moment?

That wouldn't. Cut somebody like a Sunday him

You know, but he get into it and I love that

shot of Terry throwing batarangs and one swipe

of his you know staff weapon and he takes them

all out and You know, it's just Damien, you know

His blade is shattered. He grabs a blade or the

part of the blade and he throws it at Terry like

ain't no thing and Like they keep going to it

and we get back to the Batcave Pardon me and

Max and Matt and I like the sound of that Max

and Matt They're they're talking to Bruce. They're

like, you know, what the hell Bruce like why

you got to play us like that and Bruce gives

them kind of the lowdown I think between panels.

We don't see it right here, but I think he Kind

of gives them the lowdown in between about the

suit and we see them tracking and they're like

trying to position the satellite and they see

it's Damien and We have Bruce flashing back is

once he gets there and he's climbing the Himalayas

You know up to the demon stronghold and it goes

back to when Damien was still around after he

is retired and Damien takes the x7 out this one

time and Talks about how when Bruce went to find

him after this one battle He just found the suit

and Damian was gone again. Yep. And then, uh,

Koru shows up. Of course he does. He shows up

and ruins everything. I like that. Let me guess,

your father is, and Koru corrects him, was, Ubu.

Yep. I would've loved to see a more extended

fight here, like young versus old. It would be

I imagine this would be a if they had a fight

like that or at least the more involved one it

would be Not unlike the Joker's versus Bruce

in the first part of rebirth. Oh, yeah, absolutely

Sure you are No, but I like to get back to Damien

and Terry and I can't help but love like Damien

is a character in the comics that in equal measure

has annoyed the ever -living piss out of me and

has done such acts of sheer badassery that i'm

like you go dude but that image of him like terry

coming at him at like warp speed and then damien

just definitely like pinching some of the bat

grenades from the belt and throwing them right

back in terry's face is like You you're wearing

like an armored suit, but that's all it is is

armor. There's like no tech built into it It's

no hydraulics. You are just that you are so good

that you can go toe -to -toe with this Iron Man

like suit Yeah, and I'm not just saying that

cuz this is like an armored suit of Batman there

was an arc in Iron Man where his suit developed

sentience and tried to like permanently bond

with Tony and It got a little weird. To say the

least, yeah. And I like how Damian, he's like,

lays it all out. I manipulated Karari, wanted

to see Hugh out. He set this up. Like, he wanted

Bruce and Terry here. Yep. And we get back to

Kourou versus Bruce, and well, Bruce is getting

worked, because... Bruce is old as shit. Yeah,

he ain't no spring chicken. I do love the, uh...

the badassery if you will of Bruce pulling okay,

I thought this was like a call back to him pulling

a gun on the kidnapper and rebirth, but no, it's

a grappling hook that Mercifully does not like

defend us or not to finish straight penetrate

koru Like through his gut. It just literally

just hits him in like the armored chest plate

and knocks him back and Bruce keeps going on

puts the rebreather mask on because he's old

and he needs that o2 and he comes upon Damien

about to plunge that wicked looking sword into

Terry's chest and Damien's like oh hi dad nice

to see you. Next death sentence. I think this

issue does well with the whole setup. It does

well setting up the kuru thing It does well with

you know, the whole Damien Terry thing. I think

that's good. I love the art I Think that x7 suit

looks so friggin cool It's a very good design.

I will admit but you know, it's kind of like

I Like this design, you know, it's great if they

had kept this it's Analogous to the Ben Reilly

spider -man suit they had in the 90s during the

clone saga Where they you know, it was a great

redesign of the classic suit But nothing beats

the original red and blue just like nothing beats

the original red and black So as we get into

you know, was this per Five as just like me.

Hey, that's how the numbers work The cover get

Bruce coming into the You know the the headquarters

here and the image of like the suits about to

go nuclear Sort of thing with all this energy

crackling around it and Terry's screaming and

it was a title can blurts out of control The

secondary cover is just Batman standing on the

mountain here with red sky and all that So we

open up with The flashback the classic first

image of in a different angle But the classic

first image of Damien meeting Batman or he's

like father. I imagined you taller and Yeah,

this is where he's like knee -high to a tadpole

and You know, he's lived his entire life with

his mother and his grandpa in the League of Assassins

And then we get a two -page spread of kind of

the history of Damien Wayne, you know, we even

get a little shot of Batman and Talia kissing

which I is They I haven't read Son of the Demon

which Interesting bit of trivia was originally

seen as an Elseworlds graphic novel Because it

and you know in one part of it, you know, Bruce

and Talia, you know do the nasty and it ends

with this baby Draped in Talia's jewelry being

left on the stoop of an orphanage and for years

it was thought as just being an Elseworlds a

what -if and then Grant Morrison used that as

the basis for creating, you know The bastard

son of the Batman as some fans have called him

because Damien's kind of a prick Yeah, but you

know, I like this did Damien's like McGinnis

your time has come and then does the classic

fake out where he stabs the sword into the ground

just beside the head of his hated enemy and Damien's

like there's no satisfaction in killing a pretender

absolutely and Bruce like climbs down into this

pit and you know Bruce is like trying to talk

sense into the suit is rebooting and trying to

get terry back in the fight and i know i just

love that inferior i'll show you who's inferior

just launches himself at damian bruce is like

uh shit oh shit not good but i do like that the

baddest is like feeling good because you one

run around embrace it it's the only one you get

and You've tried this like You'd think the suit

being a computer intelligence and arguably therefore

more intelligent than a human being Would understand

by this point You can't throw batarangs at Damien

Wayne and expect to hit them because he will

take them out in one shot Which happens again

for like the third time in this fight And to

get that another shot of Terry using the suit

blades on Damien is Bruce, you know, I think

this is Bruce doing the thing is like his speed,

agility and ability to counter whatever Terry

throws him defies description. You know, he's

super super past me. And that's what scares me.

The fact that Damien is like literally running

rings and kicking Terry's ass. Well, we're aptly

kicking the suits ass And I know are you familiar

with daredevil supervillains at all a Few do

you know the gladiator? No, okay. The gladiator

is this guy a Melvin Potter He was in both seasons

of the daredevil Netflix series. He makes daredevil

suit he's Got this armored costume that he fights

and he's kind of like got uh multiple personality

disorder his costume on his wrist have these

two spinning blade like buzz saw like weapons

and that's the first thing i thought of where

carry pulls two to the batarangs and straps him

onto his wrist and then he's got bat buzz saws

on his gauntlets that uh damien is still able

to counter As Damien's been up against the suit

before it's not like this isn't anything he hasn't

faced before Well, I know but I don't think he

fought he was wearing the suit He didn't fight

the suit, but but he knows all of its weaknesses

and powers and everything else. I mean it's But

yeah, that was really really awesome, you know

what the the shot right before Batman attacks

him the one where it shows I wish that was more

of a full panel the shot where Bruce is saying

the reality is that he's fighting a machine There's

part where Terry's attacking him and you see

the the this is in the background panel here

You see the two buzz saws. I'm like, oh gee Hello

hot rod Batman cuz you know hot rod from Transformers

had the razor blade in his left arm in the movie.

Yeah So I could see that But I like that Damien's

like, oh, you've given yourself over the suit.

That frees me from holding back, allowing me

to use all my weapons. Come to me, old friend,

and Goliath pimps into the scene. Now, if you

have ever read any of the Batman -specifically

Damien -centric titles, there was a... I've tried

not to. I've tried avoiding them. Well, I haven't

read them all. I'm aware of them. But one of

the things I've loved is there was a time...

where Damian was sent away from Gotham to like

curve his killer instinct and you know he kind

of hooked up with his grandpa again and he gets

this what's called a bat dragon the last of the

bat dragons that he names Goliath and in the

comics Damian is a little kid and he kind of

has a menagerie of pets he's got a feral cat

named Alfred he's got bat cow he's got ace the

bat hound and now he's got Goliath who is this

bipedal kind of on the level of somewhere between

an actual bear and Chewbacca intelligent like

he's a big dumb dog sort of a creature yeah and

and he's still by David's side Goliath just comes

out just and just blindsights Batman and I'm

just like oh that is the best shot in this entire

storyline I don't care then Terry does like kind

of a Batman style Hulk thunderclap to knock him

back and You know Bruce is telling David, you

know, he's trying to fight the suit and Damien's

just talking shit about Terry truly an adequate

replacement And Bruce is trying is like, you

know, he's fighting the suit and blaming his

blame Ian Blame Ian Damien's you blame the suit

too much father. You always have And we get this

brief interview with Matt and Max. And we see

the pit they're in isn't just the pit, it's part

of a larger weapon. And eventually we find out

that we see a flashback with the original Rache,

and this is all pre -Brother Eye. Oh, absolutely.

New 52 futures end, because basically the League

of Assassins rebuilt this enclave, and then...

just hid from the rest of the world while Brother

Eye and the cyborgs were running roughshod over

the planet and we see Damian is going to launch

these chemical warhead missiles to basically

he's going straight from the classic Ra's al

Ghul playbook you know the world needs to start

over I'm going to help it Then we see Terry in

the suit Choke the life out of Goliath and I

was like, oh you rat bastard. I Mean literally

I was I won't say I wasn't physically angry,

but I was like mother trucker. It's Why would

you do that? And then finally we see Damian lose

his shit where he's like Goliath and that means

so much for your pet It's your turn now. He's

got this evil looking grin on his face. He's

got this giant ass chain in his hands and He's

ready to like throw down again. Yeah unforgiven

Yeah, and something about that the way the light

was coming off the suit just kind of made it

like slightly more evil and sinister. Oh, yeah

And then we get the cover for the for the last

issue here rise of the demon Damien like holding

this bloody pipe like the Joker having beat somebody

with a crowbar this evil grin on his face and

you could almost hear the Mark Hamill laughter

yeah pretty much almost looks like the Joker

without makeup and then I don't or the Joker

with makeup no without because he doesn't have

any makeup on no but like Batman 89 then the

second cover is and I know I've seen this before

like this styling of of titling but basically

the Batman Beyond title is is part of the buildings

and you've got him jumping off I love that I

think that's really cool yeah I think I yeah

I think I have seen that one and it's very much

like Pretty much the title card from like the

animated series Sort of thing if I recall correctly.

Yeah. Yeah, pretty much is. Yeah, very cool though

You killed Goliath for that you must die is how

we start decades from now Really? I didn't realize

it been that long. Yes, really And I like how

Chang like the angle of the art here Makes Damien

look like a kid again Yeah like just because

like you killed my dog and then you get back

into it and again very another kind of classic

comic book image you know Damian leaping in and

like shredding the chain and knocking Terry back

as he blocks the blow and you know Bruce is kind

of left to his own devices and trying to stop

the launch where yeah pretty much and I like

this Damian uses he's got like these uh What

do you what's his name from Mortal Kombat had

the nice pop out of his arms? Baraka he's got

like these Baraka like blades hidden in his gauntlets

that he prized the bat grenade case like you

really need to reinforce that Bruce he prized

the bat grenade case off the belt and for the

third time throws grenades and Well, Bruce is

like trying to hack into the can you know that?

this is a Linux system I know this you know he's

trying to hack in and stop the launch and you

know the shoot shoot god I can't say words today

the suit is getting shredded and thus you know

kind of giving Terry probably a chance at some

point to get out of it but you know he gets Damian

by the throat and Koru's trying to stop Bruce

and you know the suit you know date Terry is

fighting the suit and then Does it does he throw

Damien or does Damien get loose and he takes?

Kourou out It's kind of hard to tell No, yeah

Damien takes Kourou out because he gets free

of Terry But Damien basically tackles Kourou

and Yeah, that's then they cut back to Matt and

Max Yeah, and then they're just like so they're

like, you know, I guess it's kind of an exposition

moment really the missiles are gonna launch and

you know Terry gets back into it and he pops

a wing blade and You know, it's that classic

moment of like he's wavering and Bruce is imploring

of he's like you're gonna kill Davey and fight

Terry, you know Terry punches the snow and like

you know, just He tears the mask off and he's

more or less himself because I guess the suit

has to be the cowl in the suit have to be connected

for the AI to control And Bruce begs Damien to

abandon like do not nuke the world like come

on son and just as Damien's wavering Goliath

wakes up David's like go screw this shit. I got

my dog back Well, yeah, cuz and I and I figured

the dog wasn't dead or the bear the whatever

the animal thing wasn't dead because when the

AI said Prepare concussive blast. It's only a

concussive blast. It's not gonna Well, no, I

mean there's like that not Goliath back, but

then he's like strangling him with that chain

Which is I killed him and like, you know, that's

I'm not surprised now I mean, it's great to go

back and read this again, you know gives me an

excuse to dig through my collection that I haven't

done in a while but it's just speaking as a guy

who has for one reason or another has lost several

pets when I was younger you know to have this

anti -old yeller moment I was just like that's

beautiful man you know and he's just sitting

there blood drizzling from his nose and Davey

it's like boy I missed you then Cora was like

Infidels you have betrayed the one true head

of the demon. I will not launch and then You

know, what are those nukes and? DNA toxins designed

to eradicate all but the strongest and I love

that one punch like Davey just boom asshole Yeah,

and then Terry Terry puts the suit back on and

launches again And Bruce is like, you know, the

suit can't or Damien's like the suit can be overcome.

I did and Bruce is like, well, hopefully given

how it's been kind of messed up, you know, but

Bruce hints that, you know, because it's doomed

or it's messed up that made Doom Terry because

the suit isn't at 100 % and you would need that

to stop these five ICBM missiles, which I love

how badass the suit is as evil as it is it. takes

out four of the missiles in one shot and then

you're down to the classic one missile and You

get this war it's nothing Yeah, and then he's

like that Shazbot and he's fault here and Max

maneuvers one of the few remaining Wayne tech

satellites into the path of the missile which

you know takes it out in space And Damien and

Bruce save Terry before he makes a bloody smear

on the sidewalk. And I love that last image of,

I'd really like for you to come back home, son.

Not now, father, but the day will come when I

return. And Terry's like, cakes and balloons

and confetti in the Batcave. We have confetti

in the Batcave, right? Yeah, like that that is

again of all the stuff of all the moments like

I totally hear Will Friedle's voice, but I totally

heard Will Friedle's voice in reading that and

and I just love the image of You know Goliath

looking kind of sad sitting on his haunches wall

Bruce go home like he looks sad. It's like he's

probably relieved Terry's going because Terry

kind of jacked him up but I like that father

and son hug and Terry's like I'm trying to remember

Like it's something along the lines of a sudden

case of shyness when ink invaded the Batcave

or You know the the Batman Beyond anniversary

video where hard act possesses all these all

like a bunch of the battle droids and makes them

transforms and look like all the different versions

of batman you know it's kind of that camaraderie

on that level where terry's like you do realize

you're softening in your old age and bruce is

like probably should have long before now yeah

it kind of reminds me of um this whole arc even

going up against amy and it kind of reminds me

of uh... the darwin cook's 70th anniversary batman

beyond short at the very end terry's like seven

against two pretty bad odds and you cut to bruce

and it's kevin conroy putting his fist into his

hand yeah for them yeah you know i love that

you know that that is one of As much as I love

that Batman versus Dr. Strange or Dr. Strange

Or Professor Strange and the Monster Men short

before that. No, that's my favorite of that those

anniversary clips and you know It's okay to be

a dad Bruce even better when I have two sons

and just like oh That sitcom like oh In that

moment and that's the end of the arc folks. I

mean, yeah overall rise of the demon Think with

this one Dan Juergens is really like it's not

that he's lost a step but in he only has been

writing Batman Beyond with the rebirth series

and No, he's been writing it for two years three

years now Well that that's what I mean, but just

trying to recall how long he's been writing It's

just it's not like he's not written great comics

before and he's been writing this like you said

for a while I just think with rise of the demon

He hit he's finally hit that stride yeah Yeah,

cuz what they've done here and what they've done

for the past three years at this point from 2015

to now is They Okay, so Kyle Higgins run ended

2014 2015 Dan's run started and we started with

the whole brother I flung to the future futures

and kind of thing with Tim Drake yada yada yada

which was great it's a great story go back and

listen to the podcast we did on that last year

folks but since he's been writing it and even

at that time when we started that he had the

six -issue batmite miniseries which we covered

as well the batmite series allowed him to be

silly goofy and funny and like really cliche

about everything um but this series allowed him

to delve into deeper mythos of batman beyond

it allowed us to see someone else that was a

bat family member and tim drake be able to be

in the bat suit because like we said he got flung

into the future and then we figured out this

whole basically what the Dan Juergens run of

Batman Beyond has done is basically flipped the

animated series on its ass and given us whole

new ways to look at it like no one ever I'd never

expected Terry to be you know drugged and whatever

you know from Terminal and pretending to be Rewire

like once Kyle Higgins introduced Rewire you

know oh All bets were off and it has just been

so good and you're right. He is hitting his stride

here as well But I think like I have not been

disappointed with the stories from the Juergens

run at all Like each one of them has something

going forward it has something good in it Whether

it's a callback to the animated series whether

it's a callback to anything else It's just it's

just so fun, and it's just such a joy to read

it Mm -hmm. No, that's that's exactly what I

mean. Like I've been a fan of Dan Juergens Originally

as an artist. He is one of those Artists he's

like kind of like Jim Lee and Mark Bagley They're

all my favorite artists because they have this

very solid Even without the angst and the colors.

They just had this very solid art style and Dan

Juergens You know is probably my favorite Superman

artist. I mean that scene in Man of Steel where

Henry Cavill comes around the church after the

whole bit on the oil rig. He comes around the

corner and I was watching it with my roommate

at home one night and it's like he looks just

like a Dan Juergen Superman like that's my go

-to you know mention when you talk about the

character but yeah overall I love the series

so far and like I said he's hitting on all cylinders

he's crossing every i dotting every t Yeah, this

could have been if they wanted to they could

adapt this into one of the DC Animated films,

you know kind of just have it like during the

run of the show You don't have to have the whole

brother. I think you could have Matt and Max

and Dana or at least Matt and Max involved in

You'll have Bruce go off to save Carrie. See,

I think what would be a really cool DC animated

original movie would be to adapt the first arc

of the rebirth, escaping the grave. Adapting

that would make for an excellent animated film

because you could bring Will back, you could

bring Kevin back, and you could even bring Mark

back if he wanted to do those few little laughs

and whatever, you know, because... Bruce was

the Joker for a while kind of a thing That would

be really really cool. Oh, yeah rise of the demon

It wasn't what I thought it was going to be I

thought it was gonna be oh they found a way to

bring the actual race David Warner back and thankfully

I'm glad it wasn't that cuz Let's be honest folks

with Gotham the TV series with the CW I'm getting

sick of race because yes Gotham is on Fox but

also Arrow used Rachel ghoul and all of that

Arrow is not Batman damn it arrow is different

stop doing that Thank God they've stopped doing

well arguably green arrow was essentially a Batman

knockoff from his inception I know it's just

it's a weird thing with Marvel in DC that you

know when they're making movies all of a sudden

like this this and this character are off limits

for any TV work. I mean granted I've loved Arrow

from the beginning and even from the beginning

like I understood they're going for this whole

you know they can't use Batman so Ollie's gonna

be Batman and they kind of rejiggered the whole

idea of him being trapped on an island into you

know making him be Batman I get that but it's

also like now they can't use because Lord knows

if we're gonna get a Justice League 2 and you

have that awesome shot of, you know, Joe Manganiello,

Big Dick Richie from Magic Mike as Deathstroke

as like the whole Marvel and credit teaser they

have with him and Lex and now because they might

be making Justice League 2 or they may or may

not be making the Batfleck movie with Deathstroke

as the villain, they can't bring Manu Bennett

back on Arrow as Deathstroke. Because that's

the way to confuse people. It's like no it won't

The TV stuff is so much better like I've said

this ever since and I know we're way off track

from Batman Beyond folks But it all ties in arrows

season one and two were great amazing epic and

whatever arrows season three four and five were

season three was okay, it was kind of Yeah, because

of the whole League of Assassins ratio I'll Google

things season four and five are just garbage

and Season six is so much better season four

specifically is more garbage than season five

But season six is almost like season one and

two level of awesomeness for arrow for me right

now I said this in another I said this in another

show recently Flashing legends ty for first for

me right now uh... arrow is a close third and

supergirl is in last fucking place because supergirl

season three sucks so hard right now i don't

think it sucks but it's it's off it's off -brand

from what it was it's it just sucks so much anyway

the only thing i'll say it sucks is that image

of the brainiac five they're gonna have when

the show comes back and it's like Oh, did you

know and most people will know this but I read

an article over Christmas over the Christmas

break folks Supergirl She's getting two episodes

January 15th and January 22nd And then she's

going on break for nine months and legends is

gonna take her slot on Mondays Well, she's not

it's not break. They're switching Like the schedule

around because they're bringing in black lightning

Yeah, and it's a whole skit. It's like nine weeks

that there's switching days. So I think Supergirl

will be on Tuesdays after the flash and then

Mondays is gonna be like legends and black lightning

and then Black lightning isn't even tied into

it yet. Black lightning is supposed to be separate.

It's a CW show, but it's not It's in that it's

in that it's in that era verse in the concept

that it's in the the multiverse. It's not Yeah,

it is. No, I'm telling you. I've read articles

about this that specifically say it is not tied

to the Arrowverse, it's its own thing. Could

they tie it in eventually? Yes. I've also read

stuff, Mike, where they say, yeah, it's not tied

into Arrow the way Supergirl is tied into the

Arrowverse. It's tangently tied in because it

is taking place in one of the 52 worlds of the

DC multiverse in the show. they've even tied

it in in the new version of that suit -up trailer

that they put out recently you know with the

shows coming back from winter break we're right

at the end as Supergirl takes off they're like

yeah fine don't wait for the new guy to charge

up and then you see like I haven't seen that

trailer yet, but everything I've read when that

first came out and the first trailer for it debuted,

it basically said it's not part of... Well, it's

like they said Supergirl was never going to be

part of it, even after they moved to the CW Season

2. I'm just saying that it could happen. It's

in that universe, finger quotes. All right, folks
