Geeks:
PecanCtMichael
Mike “TFG1" Blanchard
Stan Bush here, and you're listening to the TFG1
Podcast, fulfilling all your Generation 1 Transformers
needs. Hello and welcome to episode 18 of the
TFG1 podcast. My name is Michael Wanchard and
I am with Michael Wilson. Hello. Hi there. Well,
normally I would allow time for episodes to be
released previously so we'd have like a week's
worth of time to talk about You know what happened
in the previous episode but because I'm trying
to get my original goal of having TFG1 and on
July 10th as far as airing the podcast, new episodes,
we are doing double duty this week. So you will
have a double shot of the TFG1 podcast episode
17 and 18. So how have you been Mr. Sickly? I'm
still sick. You're still sick. You sound better
than what you did the last time. Yeah, I'm doing
a little better. I'm still a little under the
weather, but I'm doing better than I was, let's
say. Yes. Yes, and that direct message you sent
me a while ago on Twitter, you're like, I hate
surprises. It's going to be funny as hell because
it's right at the beginning of the show. That's
all I'm going to say. Nice. Thanks. Exactly.
uh... it's not a birthday surprise is it uh...
no but you did recently celebrate your two hundredth
birthday didn't you uh... i am uh... eleven d
seven i think it is eleven d seven oh my god
i didn't have ears no i just turned thirty six
uh... well uh... happy belated birthday thanks
almost said happy early birthday but that was
that would be thirty seven next year yeah only
three hundred sixty four more days to go Yes,
exactly. Let's see what's going on with me since
we recorded last, which isn't too much. Having
eBay issues, not only with the auction that I'm
currently running, but with something I already
sold. I really don't want to get into too much
with that, but other than that, Geekcast Radio
Network is, we are pretty much blasting off.
We have got Tooncast Episode 0 just released
the other day. Tooncast episode 1 will probably
be released on Saturday. Let's see, Geekcast
Radio episode 2 will be released at some point.
We haven't actually recorded that yet. We're
probably going to do that on Saturday. Also Saturday.
It will be a dual record for all things Transformers
and TFG1. I'm interviewing Stan Bush yet again
after BotCon. I'm going to be talking about how
his BotCon experience was, what kind of fan interaction
he had, what kind of stuff did he see, like if
he went in the dealer room or anything like that.
Also going to be talking about the new touch.
So yeah, that's pretty much what's going on with
me. Shut up. I can't even do it. You got the
shut up. It's just just just just No Technically
the surprise for this episode would be this Stupid
thing It was it was supposed to be blaster since
you said in the last episode you're not a fan
of blaster It was blaster saying good morning.
Good morning, and then the warning thing comes
up, and it goes bad morning bad morning Yeah,
yeah, he was he said good morning. Good morning.
Oh, we got a warning He goes, bad morning, bad
morning. So yeah, it was supposed to be right.
Sorry Blaster, no one will ever take the place
of Scatman and Crothers. They're already trying,
you just can't beat the man. So yeah, that's
pretty much all that's been going on with us
as far as general stuff, I think, unless you've
got stuff that's been going on with you. No,
I mean, Transformers -wise, I... Picked up a
bunch of the movie toys despite the fact that
I said that I wouldn't But you know, I can't
skip a smokescreen homage as I bought that and
I bought a few of the other movie toys and a
bunch of the Scout class for the basic size figures
Because they are Direct molds from the last Transformers
game that I really really liked a lot. Have you
seen the the new TV spots? I don't know how to
feel them at this point until I actually go and
see the movie I'm feeling like this just because
it just doesn't it just doesn't seem like it's
cohesive from all the crap they're showing us
well they're showing us little bits and pieces
I think but they're not trying to show us the
best parts and they want to they want to leave
a little bit behind so that we can still be wowed
in the theater I think I think I'll enjoy it.
I think along the lines of the first movie when
I saw it It was well, it's not my transformers,
but it's it's giant robots Turn in the trucks
and such. So that's that's kind of That's kind
of neat and plus, you know, they've already started
with the g1 homages I got a toys RS exclusive
two -pack with the Autobot world versus Decepticon
bludgeon And they're repaints, but they still
look really cool Yes. Even if I don't want to
buy the movie stuff, I'm still finding things
I like. You damn completionist, you. Can't help
it. It's a sickness. So we are going to be talking
about five episodes from season three today.
And let's just get right into it. Cyclonus, you
saved me. But why? Warriors, it is you and I
should meet their end. in battle. You fools!
The escape pod has been launched with no one
aboard! We will all be devoured by that black
hole out there! We wouldn't be in this situation
at all if you had not captured us. Cyclonus,
I can finish my own thoughts. I don't need you
to do it for me. Maybe the thought was not yours
to begin with, Ultron Magnus. Our host is taking
a powder. Maybe we should go after him. Or shouldn't
I ask? Incoming transmission and radio message
mail call! Where's the transmission coming from?
Somewhere behind us and it is on the same frequency
as our own distress signal. But who is sending
it? God! Punch up our rear view screen! Look!
That is why the transmission is on the same frequency
as ours! My Quintesson brothers have come to
rescue me! You are wrong. Only Decepticons would
travel this far. To my visual receptors, it looks
more like an Autobot cruiser than a Decepticon
junk. Junk? Rick, I found home. Operator standing
by. Forget it! It's not here to rescue anybody.
It's a derelict ship. There's no crew. But what
about the transmission we're receiving? The signal
must be automatic, merely repeating a distress
call. Just like our distress signal. And just
like ours, no one else has heard it. So, alright,
first up today is The Killing Jar. And let me
get the booklet out before I forget. I did have
it right next to the desk, but I almost forgot
it. I don't want this turning into episode 17.
That's it that happens all the time. Yeah, I
know, but still. Alright the killing jar the
synopsis according a little booklet says a quintessence
scientists kidnaps ultra Magnus cyclonus retgar
and Marissa Fairborn in order to conduct an expert
experiments in behavioral psychology the prisoners
escape their cells but the scientist ship is
damaged during an energon storm and Is set on
a deadly and inescapable path to the to the event
horizon of a black hole? I gotta say I For the
most part of my synopsis is for this episode
today I have very short notes only because when
I first did this it was like three months ago
But I did go back and I did watch All five episodes
that we're gonna be talking about today earlier
in the day, so Yeah fresh in your yes very much
so only because I was looking for a couple of
a couple of things and Yeah, why don't you start
with some of your notes because I'm gonna be
looking for something here for a second Sure
Were you going to go through the the initial
stuff or did you um let me see maybe I can say
uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh...
uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh...
uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh...
uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh...
Mold his colors not as mold but his colors change
almost every other episode that out of the ones
that we're gonna be reviewing today It's just
it's irritating. I know it's an animation flub.
I'm just kind of wondering when they when they
rerelease as as the 25th anniversary complete
series because I know that they remastered those
I just wonder what what color mold they're gonna
use for him because This is just irksome. Here
is the color. I've actually learned how to take
screenshots. I just sent you a picture through
Skype. I've learned how to take screenshots with
my DVD program on here. So I took a whole bunch
of screenshots from all the episodes today. And
one of them, RC looks like she's a porn bot.
She just does. I don't know why. It looks like
something out of Austin Powers. You sent me a
picture of the point in sky I've got to see this
oh Wow, I didn't realize there were bitmap images.
No wonder they wouldn't open right? I do too,
but that's how it that's how it takes them with
the With the thing what the the the capture images
which sucks but You know, it's RC porn. Well,
it's not really porn. It's it's well this is
going to go on a real big tangent yeah this is
like we aren't doing this head this is not like
it last time and now it's like the RC for this
shot here we go this shot was in five phases
of darkness where she's standing on Springer
and she has her hand on her ass yes And I did
capture one and this is kind of going back I
know we're supposed to be talking about killing
jar But it's kind of going back to my face is
a darkness a little bit. I took I took one With
the scene that you were talking about with Megatron
being born and yes, there are eight construct
icons Yeah, it was that was a little too weird
for me One okay. So anyway the killing jar sorry
about that folks Yeah, there's only like five
or six episodes left So you guys should know
by now with all the other podcasts that I've
done or I'm going to do There's been a lot of
tangents and there probably will be Yeah, you
were gonna put this image of RC with her hand
on her ass on the message board. I already did
You know, if I could get that in a larger format,
that might be my style. Oh my god. I'm not saying
I'm masterful at it. I'm just saying, hey, that's
kind of hot, you know? If I knew, I should have
never shown that crap to you. Oh god. Dirty old
man. That tastes a little more than, you know,
girly romance. Yeah, okay, yeah. We need to get
back on top. uh... uh... with this episode with
them going uh... through a uh... black hole they
actually end up in a negative universe and if
you will look in your scope window and sending
another picture uh... unfortunately to be a bit
map but uh... bad repaints is the best way i
can describe this picture you know because that
yeah because when they go through the uh... through
the event horizon. Instead of being crushed in
the pulp, they're actually sent through the negative
universe. And yeah, that was my first thing,
is why was there never a negative universe recently?
How cool is that? And the only thing I can think
of, I can compare that as like the last year's
BotCon shattered glass. And I'm thinking, you
know, it'd be cool if they all went through the
event horizon and came up with different colors
and goatees. Oh, God. Like shattered glass robinets.
Where do I get this facial hair from? How did
that happen? Well, it's actually funny you mentioned
the shattered glass stuff because I thought it
was like the repaint. And I just saw this the
other day. I was looking at BBTS the other day.
I don't know why. I never bought anything from
them. I don't have any money to buy anything
from them, but that's beside the point. But I
was looking for TFA toys to see if they had any
pre -orders up for the new Rodimus and RC, which
they don't. But I saw animated Roadbuster Ultra
Magnus, and it's a repaint of the original. It's
like green and brown, and it's almost like that
Ultra Magnus that's in the picture I just sent
you. And for anybody that is listening to this
that is like, wait, what picture? Go over to
PredaconEmpire .com slash CafeSpark under the
G1 screenshots thread, and you can see what we're
talking about. Cyclonus kind of looks like the
Sunstorm version. Yeah, he does, doesn't he?
I always thought he was gold looking, but yeah,
you're right. Yep. Rodimus in space. Yes, that's
right. Rodimus in space. I might have a little
more to talk about that later. Yeah, we probably
will The quints are back if you people will remember
from the last episode the quintessence were the
main villain throughout the five part of Five
faces of darkness and they are back in this episode
Well, yeah, but I mean still quintessence Let's
see, I already mentioned that they were kidnapped
Sucked into a black hole Magnus see I Really
liked what they did in this story. What are you
eating? What are you doing? I'm eating paper
eating the paper The dog ate my notes in which
in this case the dog will be me. I'm eating the
are very similar, except for the fact that one
is good and the other is evil. They are both
warriors, and they both have respect for... Hell,
Cyclonus even saves him. When Magnus got ejected
from the ship, when they let the escape pod go
without anybody getting into it. Shared code
of honor. Yes, exactly. Which I thought was really,
really cool. Negative universe, way cool. Yeah,
yeah, it was very simple notes when I did this
originally They make it back in skylinks rescue
rescues them And I we just mentioned the mutual
warrior respect and that's pretty much all I
have for notes on this episode I went back and
I watched it again and I really couldn't think
of anything else Nothing else that that that
I was watching just popped into my head this
afternoon when I was watching them so What do
you got? Well, uh Yeah Normally, we would we
would uh, you know put off my my rambling notes
here For a our thoughts section. Oh, okay. Are
we in there already? I don't know it can happen.
I guess it doesn't really matter to me Our thoughts
to start with our thoughts I would say I thought
it was weird that in the beginning everyone's
being kidnapped, right? And and they're they're
the quinazans are mimicking or the quinazan I
should say in his in his guard their ship mimics
Something that would draw their prey toward them
and in cyclonus's case. It's broadside. No, it's
not. It's galvatron No, no, it's bright. No,
god Galvatron is not a giant red and blue airplane
But when he go but when they get in when he goes
inside he hears galvatron and they and they show
a picture of galvatron They don't show they do
They know they show When when oh, that's when
they fight right exactly goes in and he says,
you know What trickery is this and then Galvatron
exactly? Right, but I mean the the shift that
lands it's it's a it's another one of those broadside
Okay, one of those big ones that look like broadside
and it's kind of like well, that's kind of strange
that broadside would show up and say Galvatron
wants to see you and he goes what and he shows
up and he walks inside and Galvatron says hi
there And the first thing he says why are you
kicking my ass? It's like doesn't he kick your
ass every time he sees you Why are you so surprised
now I can see Ultra Magnus being surprised that
Rodimus is trying to kick his ass because he's
like, you know I'm gonna squash you into the
dirt because you're a loser But you know on the
other hand cyclonus should be used to actually
the rodimus magnus thing comes back in return
of optimus prime when uh... when when magnus
and i'll and and steven i'll discuss this when
we eventually get to that episode but uh... when
magnus turns ready goes come here kid i'm gonna
destroy you or whatever he says yeah the hate
plague and all that stuff it well that's the
hate yeah that makes you say funny things it's
like too much It's like what I know it's the
booze talking, you know, you're not really planning
on killing You should know But I haven't had
anything tonight so moving right along the other
thing I noticed was cyclonus seems to know a
little bit about how Ultra Magnus is programmed.
And he says, well, this is how I expect Ultra
Magnus to perform in this test. And spot on,
he does. But then he sees Cyclonus, and he says,
this is how I think Cyclonus should perform in
this test based on his programming that I helped
with. But it's like, wait a minute now. Cyclonus
was built by Unicron. So that. So technically
the Quintesson shouldn't have known how Cyclonus
would have reacted. But so far from season three
the Quintessons know everything. They are big
know -it -alls. That's true, but I mean yeah
from my thoughts it's like wait a minute he shouldn't
know and you know to this day we're still not
sure who Cyclonus was reformatted from so I mean
the Quintesson couldn't even infer from that.
I think it was Thundercracker. It might have
been but I think it was but I'm not really sure
I would have to look at the movie again, but
I'm pretty sure all of the insecticons become
sweeps Yeah, yeah, yeah and record record gets
lured in by a Now why would record follow a clown
anywhere clowns are just damn You didn't you
learn anything from it? You know, it's like the
the clown is in the ship and he says beep beep
wreck You know, this is another one of those
clips I should have sent you you've seen it.
Yes. Oh Yeah, it's Tim Curry is the clown. Yes.
Don't come on down here We all float down here.
Yeah. Yeah, no. You just do this to me every
time we go on a tangent. Uh, no, I may use this.
Nice. Yeah, every time I go off on a pop culture.
No, I was just doing it because of it, because
I hate clowns and I don't like horror films.
Oh, yeah, that's right. the only the only part
I remember from it is when when the when the
when the when the clown or whatever is is looking
like a girl and the guy is is in there and Turns
around and says he turns back in the car. He
goes come here kiss me fat boy All of my all
of my it knowledge so yeah So I wasn't, yeah,
again, you know, we won't go anywhere further
down that path. Besides from saying that Tim
Curry's awesome, even at that. Tim Curry definitely
should have played a voice in Transformers somewhere
along the way, because he's an awesome voice
actor. He's got a very distinct voice. Yes. Speaking
of voice actors, did Sue Blue do Marissa Fairborn
in this one? She did, I believe. She did Marissa
throughout all of them. OK, it sounds like her,
but, you know, she's got... Trying to do like
a I don't want to say an accent but a she's definitely
got a kind of a blue blood thing going to her
No, you know that Marissa is what lady Jay's
daughter, right? I think I brought that up in
episode 17. Yeah Speaking about voice actors
her dad was in this they didn't actually say
her dad was named Nathaniel or that his or Flint's
But it was the same voice actor as the guy who
played Flint in G .I. Joe. So the continuity
was there. Yeah. The continuity was there. They
never actually came out and said it here in this
episode. And, you know, Flint Dilley has come
out since then and said, yeah, that is Flint.
Yeah. Yeah, I was actually surprised that Flint
Dilley did not write this episode. He wrote he
wrote all five parts of five faces of darkness,
but he didn't write this one. It was two other
ways I think I remember that from watching them
earlier today. I don't know my memories kind
of like The most notable one is when The quint
tries to get away and the escape pod and she
jumps on his back. Yeah, she's like get over
here you And I'm thinking ride him cowgirl. Oh
God Yeah, she jumps on his back and rides him.
Yeah, she's taking his ass down like a filly
I thought that was funny. But the other thing
that I noticed was in the negative universe.
Yes where she turns purple And I'm thinking,
you know, you'd think a purple chick would be
hotter You know, I've been somewhat for some
reason the purple just didn't do anything for
her. Well, that's cuz she had the pink lipstick
still at it the Oh crap, I can't believe I'm
gonna say this the purple the purple face Drew
more attention to the pink lipstick but uh let
me see let me go back to the notes here oh another
thing i noticed um The junkie on a wrecker, you
know immediately goes in and Sir surprises the
quintesson with his actions He locks him up in
a room and he says well with this clean pristine
room There's no junk in there the junkie on should
be you know frozen in the inaction because there's
new because you know He's not used to the surroundings
and the first thing record does is tear the room
and it's more like home Yeah, and he sees all
the room full of garbage now ha ha and the Quinn
says Wow, I didn't really expect that to happen
the one and yeah, no good I was gonna say it
makes me wonder if there was some sort of junkie
on evolution since that time and if so, maybe
there's other forms of You know Autobot evolution
going on that may Yeah, you know that may that
may be another scientific tangent that we probably
don't need to go down Yeah, I'm not really sure
but I do want to make a comparison between G1
retgar and TFA retgar G1 retgar at least had
guns and at least knew how to use a gun TFA retgar
tried to fight people with fucking junk In garbage
all the time. I mean, you know, I'm not trying
to get on the people that did TFA But at least
give the damn bought a gun every once in a while,
but you know You're missing the point on the
Transformers animated right there. I think animated
right car is slightly akin to the Nokia phone
that gets animated in the movie. He didn't mean
to be there, he has no history, he has no thoughts
on the matter. He's brand new to the world. Whereas
the Nokia phone, his first thought is, I'm just
gonna fuck everything up. I'm just gonna kill
everything I see. Rekgar is kind of the exact
opposite, being a good guy. He's looking at the
world full of wonder and saying, wow, where am
I and what am I supposed to be doing here? And
just trying to find himself. Whereas, you know
the wreck are in the movie or in the TV series
The you know original TV series. Yeah He knows
where he's at in life. He has a purpose and you
know, he knows who he is. Okay. Yeah, I got you
There's a huge difference in characterization.
Yeah, that's true Yeah, I really don't have anything
else unless you have more because yeah, I don't
know. I just don't It's not that I dislike Killing
Jar. I don't know. Pretty much all the episodes
today, other than Dark Awakening, I really didn't
care for. Yeah. Well, you know, something that
I was going to mention was along with voice actors
that I forgot. The voice actor for Cyclonus.
Cyclonus is way off in this episode. Yeah, he
is a little bit. Well, I mean, he sounded to
me kind of like a combiner. He was very loud
and gruff and and very slow speaking and it was
you know, it was a vast difference between him
here and What was this surprise party? Oh, that's
oh, that's right. He wasn't surprised party Yeah,
he wasn't but I mean he sounded he sounded much
more like himself in surprise party Whereas in
this one, he was more, you know, he sounded more
like he was Well, like a big combiner. I'm not
sure I'm trying to hopefully see if INDB loads,
but I don't actually remember who played him.
I know that it was probably somebody with the
original G1 series, because obviously he had
no voice in the movie. I would like to say it's
Welker, but I'm probably gonna get a whole bunch
of screaming fangirls at me saying, no, it's
something else. Well, it'd be nice to get some
type of clarification. If it was the same guy,
he wasn't portraying the character the same.
Let's see, I just pulled him up. Talk about something
else for a second. Yes, speaking of IMDB another
thing I was wondering was You know what year
exactly Disney's black hole came out and I looked
it up. It was 1979 I'm just kind of drawing parallels
there between You know the you know the black
hole in the Disney movie and this one and there
really wasn't any Hey, there's a black hole in
this episode, but the concept kind of reminded
me of the black What I thought was strange was
that you know, they started off with a neat concept
You've got a quintessence ceiling people are
kidnapping people and then and then studying
them but then Kind of almost tacked on at the
end as an afterthought. Oh, look, there's a black
hole and We're in a negative zone and no we're
all different colors and oh look we're free.
We're out and we're being saved. Hooray I Mean
like I said an afterthought Oh Wow, this is this
is strange This is very, very strange. Roger
C. Carmel is credited as playing him in every
episode other than Return of Optimus Prime Parts
1 and 2. It's Jack Angel. But Roger C. Carmel
is credited as playing him in the movie, but
he had no voice. So how can you give someone
a voice actor credit that didn't do a single
speaking line? Yeah, that could be it too, but
I'm gonna have to really look at Return of Optimus
because I did not know that that he had changed
it had changed The last according to this the
last episode that he went in as far Carmel as
cyclonus was Thief in the night, which I do not
and that's in the next episode of TFD one. I
don't think that's in this one There could be
somewhere though other down the line. I'm not
really sure Yes, yes, yes Yeah, so I guess It
was it has good points bad points if I was we
don't I don't really have a scale I didn't want
to have to deal with math on this series So I
really didn't do a whole scale, but if I had
to rate a killing jar, I'd probably rate it a
5. A 5 out of what? 5 out of 10. Oh, OK. I was
about to say, no. Yeah, 5 out of 5? No, no, no,
no. 5 out of 10 is fair. It wasn't bad. I mean,
like I said, it would have been nicer to split
this up into maybe two episodes. where one episode
they're being kidnapped and then and then oh
look a black hole and then cliffhanger and then
the next episode could have been fighting to
get off the ship and arguing amongst themselves
and learning a little bit more about the code
of the warrior that the both of them subscribe
to and then negative zone getting back I mean
yeah I mean it would have been a very nice two
episode arc yeah I don't think they were going
for that a lot in season three other than Other
than Five Faces of Darkness, Return of Optimus
Prime, because those are the only two -parters,
or more than a one -parter in the entire season,
is Five Faces of Darkness and the Return of Optimus
Prime are the only... I mean, Starscream's Ghost
and Ghost in the Machine, they kind of... it
kind of is a one - and two -parter, but as far
as like, you know... You know this part and this
part in this part five faces of darkness and
return about to his primary only Part one and
part two type episodes Yeah, I mean even in the
one shots for the most part, you know, they are
all connected but For the most part they're all
connected. They have at least something in them
that is connects them to the other ones but you
know whatever so I think that's it for the killing
jar All right, so up next on the TFG one podcast
we have okay, what was that? Was it you know,
leaky tires or something? It's probably a good
thing too. Anyway, next up we're gonna be talking
about chaos In this episode it starts off with
this a decepticon chasing a scuzzoid uh... and
then we get uh... uh... actually what what happens
there you know crap rewind yeah i think it's
scuzzoid i thought they were just called the
no it's a scuzzoid because in um... scud zoid
i don't know uh... i don't know so anyway chaos
the Chaos, the synopsis, before I forget. Oh
crap. Where we are? Where am I? What am I doing
here? Yes, really. OK, so chaos. Cup, Skylinks,
Grimlock, Wheelie, and Blur investigate the destruction
of an Earth Defense Command Shuttle and discover
it was destroyed by death crystals. Ooh, death
crystals. But death crystals can only be found
in one place in the galaxy. on the skin of a
giant beast called Chaos, who lives within a
mountain on the planet Dread. But this isn't
the first time Cup has faced Chaos, and the Autobot
security officer will have to face the ghosts
of his past in order to solve this case. This
episode, before we get into our notes here, this
episode was very much like a detective story
almost. It was Cup basically not wanting to tell
the others uh... the past and it actually showed
a lot of good backstory for cop you know all
these other episodes that he's been in since
the movie he's always trying to tell war stories
and everything else and you know now we actually
see kind of uh... uh... you know a flashback
from his younger days so that that was kind of
cool yeah i i thought it was nice to use in the
whole time they're asking him well what do you
know about this what do you know about this and
he says i'm not telling you you know i'm he's
literally protecting them from knowledge that
that you know may scare them or perhaps prove
helpful to them yes very much um actually one
of my notes is uh actually they're called death
crystals i i called them chaos crystals i was
like chaos crystals Yeah, I just thought it was
weird. It's like, all right, let me get this
straight We're a bunch of slaves in a mine and
we're picking up dead skin cells from a from
God's giant radioactive This is kind of gross
Radioactive dead skin cells no less. I thought
the death crystals the cast crystals looked a
lot like yes, they did actually Green chunks
that kind of yes. Yes, right. You're absolutely
right If there was a Superman in the Transformers
universe, he would immediately die Yes, probably
In the universe that would kill Superman Yeah
Tells you what a badass cup is Yeah, pretty much
so All right. Let's see. What else do I have?
We kind of briefly mentioned cup wanting to hide
the past for the safety of the others I think
that's kind of noble of him, even though he's
trying to be secretive. At least he's looking
out for their best interests. I think I brought
this up in episode 17, but I'm not really sure.
I know I brought it up in this one because it's
sitting here writing my notes. If the Quints
introduced the Predacons, why the hell are they
under Galvatron now? They're mercenaries. Yeah,
but if you look at the rest of the series, they're
always with Galvatron Well, I I thought that
the Predaking stock footage got a huge workout
in this I mean they transformed like Yeah, and
it looked the exact same thing. It looked the
exact same way both times. Yeah Not that I don't
like watching Predaking transform because it's
kind of cool. I miss Devastator Yeah Predicting
would just be like what's that crap under my
foot? Oh, that's devastating One one awesome
thing I thought and one really laughed at finally
some muck to shut blur up I wouldn't go that
far, but I mean at least shut him up for a while
and that Well, you know they always do this in
the cartoon where it's like before the commercial
break you see blur and he's like I'm gonna die
he goes under under and he's he's gone and then
the commercial breaks and then when they come
back from the commercial break he's not gone
he's actually still flailing you know and if
you listen to him he's he's talking so fast he's
incoherent at this point yes right just before
uh skylinks comes in and saves him and i'm thinking
wouldn't it be a little bit harder for skylinks
to pull him out of there he just kind of sweeps
in but it's skylinks he's superior than everybody
else he can do anything that no one else can
do That's the attitude that dumb bastard has
exactly I Don't think I don't think you should
be able to be predicking I think both of his
asses He takes both of his asses and then shreds
them up in a little piece of tin foil and then
wraps them back up and makes them look like That's
what he looks like Yes, the one thing I never
understood about G1 is Skylinks and trypticon
do not have robot modes I mean you can kind of
argue that trypticon's dinosaur mode is his robot
mode, but It's still not a freaking I mean It's
not it's not like you know car robot. It's or
plane robot or jet robot, but yeah Should probably
be thankful for that because honestly if you
tried to get skylinks in old robot mode it would
end up looking You know like a like a shuttle
sitting straight up with a head on top of it.
Maybe a little arm stick It would look really
really bad. Just make him into a triple make
him into an Autobot replica of astrotrain. He'll
be alright I know that they recently reissued
SkyLynx. Well, not recently. It was last year.
But how cool would it have been if they would
have reissued an Ehabi repaint to make him look
like an AstroTrain? It would have been all right.
An AstroTrain shuttle? Yeah. And then the AstroTrain
shuttle could have transformed into a Lynx and
a bird thing. Whatever the hell he is. I mean,
the colors, I think, would have been awesome.
Anyway. During the battle in order to destroy
the chaos death crystals retgar gets down fairly
I don't understand. I don't even understand where
I was going with that note I have no idea. I
don't even remember Yes, it says During the battle
in order to destroy the death crystals Retgar
gets knocked down fairly easily. I have no idea.
I don't even remember why I made that note He
wasn't I don't know why it's there then He did
they had slaves prisoners and you know the What
I want to call them the extras, you know, anytime
they have extras the extras all kind of look
like junkie ons but I Don't know. Maybe I'm in
Skylinx. Hell. I don't remember now Remember
either So I think we're going to be moving on
to our thoughts because I don't have any other
faces his fear and Destroys chaos and then at
the end Grimlock is the only one interested in
cup stories Cup is redeemed That's kind of neat,
because they say when I was young, I was in a
position where I could have saved everybody,
and I ran like a little girl. Yeah, and he is
redeemed in this episode, but if you look at
the very, very end when they're all back in the
ship heading back to Cybertron, he's like, oh,
well, that reminds me of the time when everybody
else groans except for Grimlock. And Grimlock's
like, no, I want to hear the story. I want to
hear about Jonah Gart and the space ship. Yeah,
whatever the hell that was. Space space whales
have a long tradition in Google space. Well,
no You were in a big fan of what oh Come on first
gave I never actually watched it. I've heard
of it, but I've never actually watched it Could
be worse it could be a Nexus maximus Go Google
that and see what you can Google that and see
what you get Nexus max. Yeah, let's not go there
No, you don't Yes, but you know I didn't actually
but I watched Pia's review of it and he says
whatever you do do not Google it. It's some sort
of adult toy Yes, so anyway, um, I think that's
You know Did you notice in this episode that
chaos actually at the end he said something they
showed him and his mouth was moving and then
Cup basically flipped him the finger and ran
off to lure him away outside of the mountain,
but he did say something, but all that came out
was kind of like Welker -esque noises. And I
thought, I wonder what he said. Maybe like, haha,
Cup, you have returned, and I shall teach you
once again because I am the best. I wasn't sure
what he would have said, but I thought, man,
somebody should have voiced that. So I think
we're going to end chaos Unless we have anything
else to say about it. I don't actually remember
at this point if we've even done a separate thoughts
thing or anything or this I think we kind of
did a little bit of my thoughts Yeah, it was
and like I said before it gave us kind of like
cups Backstory of when he was first an Autobot
warrior Instead of him always saying oh, yeah
when I was this and when I was that not actually
showing us anything Yeah, we get a little backstory
they probably could have Left the supporting
cast behind and and have done just as well with
the story. Oh, yes Maybe Skylinx just to provide
transportation and cup by himself Thanks Nobody
else really provided actually if it was If it
was skylinks cup and Grimlock it would have been
fine if you leave the other two bastards out
it would be fine Besides cup really be there.
You could have been comfortable talking It's
like I remember that one time. Well, nobody else
wants to hear my story So I'll just tell them
to myself in the shuttle that one time at transformers
camp with the flute Okay, and on that note we're
going to go to the next review I'd hope never
to see it again. What's wrong? What is that thing?
A tomb. We built it as a final resting place
for the Autobots we lost in the Great War. Like
Optimus Prime? Do... do we have to go inside?
No. Nothing there can hurt us, Daniel. That's
the veil of remembrance. A memorial to the Autobot
heroes whose chassis and servos rest here. Huffer.
tricks on you Daniel but it was him you believe
me don't you dad come on Daniel there's only
one way to find out you're gonna open his tome
a waste of energy our reserves we'll wait here
the burial chambers on the other side of the
veil The Matrix would have told me. Somehow.
Let's go back. I've got to be sure. Rodimus,
no. It's empty. I told you. The Decepticons.
Beside Mac and Next up is dark awakening. I must
say I'm already gonna give the if I was doing
a grade I would already give this episode of
ten Just because of a few things that you will
notice Coming up that we will be discussing.
Here is the synopsis for dark awakening fleeing
the Fleeing through space from pursuing Decepticons
the Autobots dock at a mausoleum the burial place
of Autobots killed in the Great War. Daniel sees
Optimus Prime alive, but how can this be? And
though Optimus Prime can't remember the recent
past, Rodimus Prime returns the Matrix to its
former bearer, possibly spelling doom for all
Autobots. Going back to the movie DVD, the 20th
anniversary DVD, Flint Dilley had said, and we
had mentioned this in the movie Roundtable, in
his little clip that he was talking about the
death of Optimus Prime, he said that one kid
had actually barricaded himself in his room and
did not come out for a solid wee cry and did
this and did that, and he goes, well, did the
kid know that we're gonna bring Optimus back
as a zombie and then kill him off again? Yes,
yes very much so As I just said the Decepticons
are giving chase of the Autobots It actually
almost flashes back until I rewatched it earlier
today Excuse me until I actually rewatched earlier
today. I thought it was flashing back to the
movie with the The the the chamber of separation
or whatever or the the emergency separation thing
it actually was Well, it kinda was, but it wasn't
because they say that they got into an escape
pod. So technically they left the entire ship.
So my note there was completely wrong, because
they did not... But the ships looked exactly
the same. The attack was the exact same. There
was a scene with the Quintessons where they said,
hey, how's it going? And Galvatron said, screw
you, I'm going to come up. And then on the ship
again, it was, you know... It was the exact same
people were there that there was not and Perceptor
was not Okay, well, we'll say that but but I
mean it was literally they lifted that whole
scene from a movie The big difference was, you
know Galvatron saying I'm going to look for their
bodies. Yes Whereas the first time it was like
ha ha I killed them all. Yes Here he's learned
from his mistake and he says I'm going to check
for their dead bodies, which you wouldn't have
found because Rodimus once again in his infinite
wisdom and leadership abilities has left them
drifting in space waiting to hit something. Remember
when I said Rodimus in space? They're all kind
of floating in space. But at least this time
they're in an escape pod. They were in an escape
pod? Okay, well they're basically drifting along
waiting to hit something. And what was that?
Either we're gonna... No, no, no. Get it right.
We're either going to be saved or splattered.
How many times is this going to happen? I don't
know. And I will bring it up again. He doesn't
do it. It's like... Follow me everybody as we
drift aimlessly through space Trust me. I am
the bear of the matrix as we drift aimlessly
through space Hoping to either be saved or splintered
Yes, I probably should have put these notes afterwards,
but The next two are okay. Here is the episode
where they bring Optimus Prime back as a zombie
Yeah, I thought I was pretty cool too. It's nice
to hear and see optimus voiced by Peter Cullen
again I am so glad that they did not do what
animation people do today sometimes where they'll
get Someone to do the voice for so long and then
they'll get somebody else to rip to to to play
it I hate that I cannot stand that Okay, I'm
saying within the same series Perfect example,
and I don't I don't I don't actually know this.
I know what happened Charlie Adler Actually left
Tiny Toon Adventures and was no longer playing
Buster Bunny for a period of time It was somebody
else and I don't I don't like when cartoon series
do that like say for example say and I know this
is going off topic a little bit but Say Cory
Burton voiced shockwave or a long arm or whatever
the hell you want to call him For the first two
seasons of animated then they brought in somebody
else. I hate when they do that The scene where
Daniel is looking at the other burial chambers
at least confirms some of what we know Meaning
that even though we didn't see it in the movie
at least I didn't Hufford did die Cuz Daniel
goes through and lists off a whole bunch of people,
Huffer, Ironhide, yeah, yeah. But good riddance
to Huffer, he was always so negative anyways.
Bastard. Why did they have to die? Quote of the
episode, Hot Rod is back. Alright, let's party.
That's exactly what I'd expect from me. Hot Ride
is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Cowabunga!
Let's party! It's like, you know what? I'm so
glad that you're not the leader anymore because
you suck. It's like, and then the minute he gets
the Matrix back, what happens? We're floating
through space again. I don't actually remember
this because I think I was fast -forwarding through
this episode. I was looking for something. But
Snarl, woot. I think he does. Don't I don't remember
I don't remember where it is that he does pop
up, but I thought that was pretty cool The team
that was previously Left on the the mausoleum
ship to die when they show up Again, the Autobots
are all like well wait a minute optimus prime
said you were dead and the first ones I see are
snarl and Oh, yeah, that's right. Okay. Yeah,
and they see them again and they say well you're
supposed to be dead and they're like well We're
not dead, you know often said you were dead and
it's like well, we're not Yeah, oh yeah, I think
that's the only time Especially after they skipped
him in the home. Well, no they didn't now he
what he Yes, exactly in the ship and they're
coming down on yeah in the ship when they're
coming down on to junkyard This is I believe
I'm not for certain But this is the only other
episode so far through throughout that throughout
our season 3 coverage here that we've seen another
Dinobot other than Grimlock. I know that when
we get to Grimlock's new brain, Snarl and Slag,
or not Snarl, but Slag, Sludge, and Swoop show
up again, but yeah, I think this is the only
episode that we so far have seen a different
Dinobot other than Grimlock. If you really if
you look at this at the at the new season and
all the new characters Grimlock has taken up
a more giant role I mean now they sent him to
be with Rodimus in five faces of darkness. So
Roda She dances back and forth in his tail anyway
I have to clarify though, my mother -in -law,
my father -in -law, my wife's parents, Prissy's
parents, have a German Shepherd. So when I say
a big, dumb German Shepherd, I'm saying in the
most affectionate of ways. They have a big, dumb
German Shepherd, and he's literally like a big
Grimlock. He's just jumping around saying, hey,
you want to play with the ball? You want to play
with the ball? He's like, yeah, Grimlock, let's
play with the ball. Oh crap, that's funny. Rotimus
versus Optimus is just completely outrageous.
Did you hit the wrong button there? No, I hit
the right one. It started off with a boo. No,
it started off with applause. Did it? It sounded
like boo. No, it's applause. But yeah, I thought
that was super cool seeing the two of them go
at it. And then eventually, actually you see
Optimus coming around because throughout the
battle he is telling Rodimus what to do and how
to get the Matrix back from him because Optimus
knows deep down that the Quintessons did something
to him. I have one other note, but I think we're
going to save it for the very end, just because
it kind of goes on to the end of the episode.
So I think we're going to go into our thoughts.
What did you think? Because this is pretty much
one long fluid episode. What did I think? You
know, I think I like this episode most of all,
just because, again, it's Optimus Prime. It's
Peter Cullen as Prime. And even though they kill
him, I liked it. There were some things I didn't
like about it. Like what? Well, just like in
the movie, there's this flagrant disregard for
the characters from 84, 85. I mean, you've got
this mausoleum and it's full of the deceased,
right? And you would think that they would take
care to preserve... The the you know, at least
the corpses of the dead and no they send it flying
into the Sun Yeah, it's like It's like adding
insult to injury The injury being you killed
them in the first place And the second the insult
being and then you burn up their bodies in the
Sun Well, I wouldn't say it's actually adding
insult to injury because the way I look at it
is they're now cremated You can't try to use
dead Autobots against us anymore, you evil Decepticons,
because they are now cremated. Yeah, I didn't
really see it that way. I kind of saw it as mean
-spirited. It's like, yeah, I know you loved
them, and they died, and that's terrible, but
we're sending them into the sun. Wasn't there
I I forget didn't Rodimus say something about
why they were doing that Didn't he say something
about that it could never be found because? What
happened was that they they ran into this basically
on accident again Rodimus Oh my team, and I are
just floating through space not really knowing
what we're gonna run into and Holy cow we landed
on this long -lost mausoleum ship that we thought
was going to be gone forever. We didn't bother
to track it to see where it was going. We just
let it fly free and somehow or another we flew
into it on accident. So now they're there and
they find Prime and Prime then leaves them there
and the ship is then sending into the sun. So
I get the impression that Prime actually set
them on a collision course with the sun. That's
right. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I do remember that now.
And then Prime shows up. back on Cybertron and
says, I'm back and it's a real shame that Rodimus
had to die to save me. Which I thought was cool.
It was very unlike Prime, when Prime has the
control of the Armada, which interestingly enough
was a fleet of broadsides. They love that broadside
plane mold, so it's a fleet of white broadsides,
but he's got control of the Armada. And he's
literally making, I don't want to say bad decisions,
but decisions that are not prime decisions. Yes.
Prime would be conserve life, protect the fleet,
do what you can to try to get the enemy pushed
back as far as you can, but without throwing
your own men in the way of blaster fire. And
that's literally what he does here. He says,
you know, everyone full speed ahead. Just take
them all out and he's sending them all purposefully
into a trap Yeah, whether he knows it or not,
but you know, it was it was a quintesson design
trap that he was part of Yeah, but I don't think
it could be argued that first of all prime has
been dead for let's say a year because supposedly
Season three is supposed to be taking place one
year after the movie With Prime being dead and
then the Quintessons fooling around with him
to get him to come back to life and putting some
sort of implants in him to actually have him
be a sentient being robot, you could argue that
the Quintessons were controlling him, which they
were, and he really had no choice. But like I
said, with the battle between the two of them,
his nature was breaking out. um... at the end
there so at least it was uh... at least it was
pretty good uh... actually i do have to kind
of correct you on a continuity error uh... he
did not die he did not his ship even though it's
shown going into the sun it did not uh... and
so it's like a him smashed all beyond belief
and even the quintessence are saying there's
no way an autobot can survive that i know but
The reason why I bring this up is my last point
that I have written down. Why in the end of this
episode? This is why I think Dark Awakening is
out of order as far as the order of the episodes.
Why at the end of this does Victor Karolyi say
But is this the final time we've seen Optimus
Prime? No. Find out tomorrow in the return of
Optimus Prime. When clearly that that two -parter
is at the end of season three. So why did they
do an advertisement at the end of this episode
advertising the return of Optimus Prime when
it doesn't happen for another one, two, three,
four, you know, six or seven episodes? I don't
know. Maybe they meant to and it just got lost
in the shuffle. Maybe they did, but that's what
I was going to talk about as far as the continuity
error, because it shows his ship going off, but
in the return part one of Optimus Prime, it shows
Jessica and Gregory stopping, you know, they
find his ship and they take his body out of the
ship. But technically Dark Awakening and the
return of Optimus Prime should have been back
to back on the DVD set. Yeah, I don't know yeah,
I It was still uh, you know emotional moment
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah second time he's died. I'm
not saying it's not an emotional moment. I'm
saying it's illogical emotional moment Here's
a question, you know knowing full well that you
cried like a little girl when Prime died in the
movie shut the hell up you bastard No because
of that advertisement Because of that advertisement
because it wasn't the movie it was the TV show
it wasn't like this epic battle between him and
Megatron and somebody else Yeah, but that's different
The battle between him and hot rod was every
every bit as epic as the battle between him and
Megatron in the movie. Oh Okay, I'm gonna say
it again the TFG1 podcast is not responsible
for anything that Michael Wilson says on this
part Because that's gonna get a lot that's gonna
get a lot of fan mail If you go back and watch
it, it's a knock -down, drag -out fight. They
fight for like five minutes straight. I'm not
saying that it isn't. I would not put it up there
with the Optimus Megatron battle, though. Well,
granted, it wasn't in the movie. It wasn't animated
as well. There wasn't the two -handed fist never,
you know. But it was very close. Yeah, I guess.
You know, if they would have had Hot Rod... Smacking
optimus prime with it with the two -handed fist
then I would have been like it was a big fight.
Yeah, I will agree it was it was very cool and
very awesome to see it. I don't think it was
as epic as the movie fight, but it was still
very cool. Yes, there is comparisons, but there's
also contrasts. It didn't last as long and stuff
like that. But I mean, plus you've got, you know,
two, you know, supposed friends or allies going
against each other, which actually the you know
that actually comes back again in uh... the i
can see now why the hate i can see exactly in
in our in the return of office from again i can
see why this episode could be viewed as out of
order because they have this going on and they
go into return and they have the hate plague
and this and the other thing in white optimism
is read rodimus and I wonder if where they got
the White Optimus toy from is if they got that
from the show or vice versa. Oh, the White Optimus
came long before the show. Oh, did it? Yeah.
Well, the White Optimus was the front half of
the Ultra Magnus toy. Yeah. And that came long
before the cartoon, this particular episode of
the cartoon. That particular episode of the cartoon.
Yes. Well, but yeah, I would I would say that
In closing, yes That at the end, you know Rodimus
says, you know, I may never be the leader that
prime was Yeah, and to that I say no Rodimus.
You'll never be the leader Even as a zombie prime
was a better leader If you wonder why just look
back at this episode where he's actually led
his team into Spacewalk literally twice We're
drifting through space Hopefully we'll land where
we think we should be if we're lucky that's funny
But that is just too funny and in in accordance
with that. I will show you this Granted, he's
a young leader. Maybe nine million years from
now, Optimus Prime would be as good a leader
as Optimus. But a year later, no. He doesn't
measure up. Yeah, no. So anyway, yeah, this has
kind of gone into... Boy, I hope this episode
comes out okay, because damn, it's gone into
such a rat hole. Alright. Alright so moving on
we will get to surprise party when we come back
Alright, up next is surprise party. Let's see,
booklet before I forget again. And I probably
will mention that almost every time because I...
Yes, I always end up forgetting see so witnessing
alter Magnus's bravery and selflessness during
battle Daniel and Willie decide to look up the
commander's birthday and throw him a surprise
party Their search brings them to a drifting
Autobot storage asteroid But trouble follows
in the form of cyclonus scourge and the sweeps
cyclonus captures the two youths and Yes, the
two youths and sets the story of Jasteroid on
a collision course with Cybertron. Um... This
episode... I don't think so. No, this episode
gets a giant, giant... Yeah, this episode was
just completely out there. I don't even know
where to begin. You know what this episode had
that no other episode has? No, what? Oh god.
Space herpes. Don't even send me that link again,
I don't even want to see that. Oh shit. Ice Pirates,
it's a classic. But we'll get into that later,
I just wanted to throw that out there. So anyways
Let's see this episode starts off where Daniel
is wondering where everyone is and then they
all jump out and surprise him with a birthday
party Daniel and wheelie want to find out when
Magnus was born so they fly to the Autobot storage
asteroid actually It should be noted that they
stole a garbage ship to fly to this thing Yeah,
exactly Yes, it was I was watching that and I'm
thinking did spaceballs steal the garbage cow
because it looks a lot like Again Autobots have
stuff drifting through space Well destroy well
the Decepticons destroyed at this time The Decepticons
follow the garbage ship that Wheely and Daniel
steal and it leads them to the Autobots record
asteroid. If the Autobots have full control of
Cybertron, how the hell? Oh no wait, didn't they
take a ship to some other place? They took the
ship, they didn't know where they were going,
they ran into a asteroid. No, that's not what
I'm talking about. They got damaged and they
accidentally landed on the first planetoid that
looked like it was landable. And that just happened
to be the asteroid. No, that's not what I'm talking
about. I'm talking about the scene where Cyclonus
says that that garbage scow isn't on its normal
route. How the hell, if Daniel and Wheely are
not... on Cybertron or if they are on Cybertron,
how the hell does Cyclonus know the garbage scow
schedules and routes? That's what I'm trying
to point out because I thought they took another
ship to get to wherever the garbage scow is,
but I don't think they did. I don't know. I think
what basically what happens is the Decepticons
blow up the shuttles and it's like wait a minute
This is the only shuttle in the whole planet.
Well, of course it is So they blow up the shuttles
knowing full well that they can't leave the planet
now And next thing, you know, you've got this
garbage truck Leaving orbit and they're like,
well, wait a minute garbage truck be leaving
orbit That makes no sense. The garbage truck
should be going over here to pick up garbage
and then said it's Trucking off to wherever wherever
they want. So they're thinking this is spike
Trying to leave to get to the conference that
they're trying to Right so and again my problem
was that the garbage truck You know gets busted
up and crash lands conveniently right where they
want to be Yes, there's a lot of conveniences
the plot yeah so it's like at first you're stranded
on a planet covered in monsters and and then
you're you just happen to find out that hey by
the way you got you got lucky you're in right
right where you want to be yeah I mean it's very
convenient for the plot Yes, yes, yes, yes. So
let's see. Just as Daniel and Willie are going
to get it... Oh, okay, no wait, back up. So the
Decepticons follow them. Willie and Daniel steal
it and it leads them to the Autobot record asteroid.
When they eventually get in there, just as they're
going to get it from the asteroid's defense system,
the Decepticons show up. We get another Cyclonus
Magnus battle. This one I don't... Is it yeah,
um, yeah, I thought it was pretty good Magnus's
missiles are make perfect targets. It's like
I'm gonna fire a missile at you It's gonna take
five minutes to get there. And if you shoot it
just right it'll blow up in midair. So aim for
it, you know Yeah, I'm not really sure I don't
know how it hell at first I didn't think his
missiles ever shot before because it's it's it
had been such a long time since I've since I've
seen since I had seen these and His missiles
did not shoot a movie. So Well, this goes back
to the killing jar when he first gets caught
or he first gets trapped he tries Oh, right.
Yeah At the at the wall, it's just kind of bounced
off And he picks it up and goes, ooh, sure. It
didn't do much good. But at least twice now,
past that, he's tried to fire a missile and had
it shot out of the sky. I think earlier in this
episode, the Combaticons are attacking, and he
comes out and shoots a missile. And then they
shoot the missile launch. Oh, yeah. And I'm not
saying before killing John. I'm saying the five
faces of darkness in the movie. He never used
his missiles, I don't think. Yeah. Oh, no, no.
Yep, or until killing Jar, but yeah Let's see.
What else do I have for this one? We get an okay,
so and the last one I have Sorry, it's just I
don't know what I did these notes three months
ago, and I didn't feel like taking anymore tonight,
so The animation of loves are few far between
from what I've seen. Oh shit wheelie is rubbing
off on me Oh yeah, oh yeah. Animation floats
are few and far between from what I've seen.
Yeah, oh shit, Wheelie's rubbing off on me. That's
not good. Well, you had to go back and... Oh
yes, it does rhyme, doesn't it? Very much so.
Send you a pic or something of the eyes. I know
what the flying when a bagel looks like I have
spaceballs It's on the other room. We'll be doing
it on M wire eventually Yes, yes, yes, yes, that's
a good show. Yeah, no I haven't seen it yet,
but I think it would be cool to see The only
problem with that is Mr. Candy has departed from
our world Well, it should be damn it voice of
course Well, you know, I mean they still have
Starscream but Chris lot is not doing the voice
Anyway, oh my head that hurt holy shit that hurts
Shut up So, what other thoughts do you have?
Because that's pretty much all I have. I have
plenty of thoughts. First of all, going way back
in the beginning, you have the Combaticons attacking.
And for once they don't merge into Bruticus,
they actually run away. But while they're attacking,
Swindle looks a lot like Hound. In fact, I thought
it was Hound. I had to go back and watch it again.
I can see why they would get confused. He was
green and he had him he had the machine gun mounted
on the back of the tray He didn't actually combine
into robot mode until they flied At the end and
then when he when he did combine not combine.
I'm sorry when he did transform In the robot
mode. He he was the regular spindle colors, but
by then they were you know, hauling ass into
the back of Or no, no, it wasn't a blast off.
They tend to use blast off a lot more in season
three than astro train All right, all right,
so they all jump in a blast on this like who's
a hell out of here, you know when they could
easily combined and You know, so it's like yeah,
they were they were doing the gorilla tactics.
They're just everybody off guard. Yep Yeah, I
thought that was that was interesting an interesting
flub in the animation Another thing that kind
of freaked me out was the fact that that number
one that they needed a yeah, that's the other
thing That is Yeah, I mean you got a hall of
records. It's nine million years old And it well
I should say it survived a nine thousand nine
million year war first of all which to me is
shocking because the first thing you do is spoil
books, right? Destroy all their records and more.
And yeah, when I say books, I mean literally
it's books. There's like a huge stack of books
that they walk into and knock over. And I'm thinking
that would be kind of strange that they would
have paper -bound volumes in a library on a planet
made of electronics, robots, you know, that type
of thing. I thought it was funny. Yes, very much
so. What did you think of, uh... Well, let's
just say it, the space service. You know, Wheatley
and Daniel get to this planet and immediately
they're... Well, it kind of at first reminded
me of Pitch Black. You know, they get to this
planetoid and there's holes in the ground and
those come monsters I'll try to eat them. But
yeah, that was my first thought but but I mean
literally they're they're They're little worms
that fly through the air and and latch onto you
and try to eat you And I was thinking yes They're
being attacked by space herpes You know and Ultra
Magnus, of course It's left. Yeah, he blows up
what's left of the garbage scow But anyway, yeah
Magnus gets in there he says aha, I'm gonna go
inside and save Willie and Daniel and keep this
thing from from slamming into a Cybertron and
Cyclonus immediately hands him his ass, which
is cool that they had like their epic battle
finally You know going back to killing jar where
they're like, you know next time we meet that's
it. I'm you know, we're enemies again and Yeah,
I gotta say even though these are pretty much
one -shot episodes which majority of them feature
Daniel and stupid Autobot of the week Grimlock
wheelie blur you you can insert anybody uh...
stupid out of out of the week uh... i gotta say
the even though they are majority of them are
one shots they do do some sort of overall continuity
between episodes and i thought that was really
cool yeah it was nice so i mean they get together
cyclonus immediately hands him his ass cyclonus
is your ass Long, long ago, the red wizard fell
from the sky. through a strange red circle. That's
how we got here. Of course, he was not really
a wizard then, merely a dabbler. He was taught
his craft by the former ruler of Mononia, the
Golden One. Indeed, he was the Master's favorite
pupil, always impressing the Golden One with
some remarkable new skill. But... One terrible
day, tragedy struck. The Golden One vanished
mysteriously. There was only one thing the Red
Wizard could do. Rule Menonia in the Golden One's
place. The Wizard brought centuries of prosperity
and peace to our land, yet some were jealous
of his power. And so the attacks began. Malcontents
of all Anonious races joined forces to seize
the throne for themselves. You, Mighty Grimlock,
could help the Red Wizard to preserve the kingdom
and protect his people. Mighty Grimlock stomped
bad guys, no problem. Good. Young Daniel seems
to be sleeping. Servants, take him away. to a
place where he can rest comfortably. All right,
so up next we have Madman's Paradise and this
time I actually have the book in my hand. On
Cybertron, Daniel is bored and walks away from
a peace summit officiated by the Autobots. Along
with Grimlock, the youth finds his axes, finds
an ancient chamber. once used by the Kwanisans
to banish criminals to a far away, to far away
dimensions. Grimlock accidentally activates the
chamber and the two find themselves transported
to a world called, what is that, Melonia, I don't
know, where two wizards have been engaged in
a power struggle for millennia. Basically this
is Daniel and stupid out of the week again Grimlock
stumbles over and lets them both get trapped
in this chamber and they get transported to another
world Is this the episode where Grimlock ends
up wearing the apron? Oh God yes. Yeah, I remember
that now. Yeah Yeah, you know Grimlock in an
apron in the bowtie, this is the Transformers
Equipment's R2 -22 Observatory The first note
I have is even though we already know this Carly
is quote -unquote officially called spikes wife
in this episode Because in the beginning when
they're making the introductions and little alien
woman kind of pisses Daniel off They introduce
spike introduces himself as himself and his wife
Carly and their son Daniel uh... i think this
is the only time that it's actually said that
they are married even though we see them you
know in other episodes that they are like in
like in five faces of darkness once by get kidnapped
it's convenient that he's not wearing his wedding
ring at all Okay, then. Well, you know, he's
got the tux on. He's like, I'm looking sharp
like Sean Connery over here. Let's not go there.
All right. My name is Spike. Knock it off. So
these last two episodes have, as I said before,
have been Daniel and random dumb transformer
go on an adventure. I understand that it is supposed
to be for kids and it's supposed to just be kid
-friendly and stuff, but it's just ridiculous.
There's no real good storyline because they end
up getting tricked and everything else. I don't
think I've mentioned, even though I said I was
going to, but the Rodimus Prime color scheme
is back to the way he looked in the movie. This
episode I don't think I was supposed to mention
it in the other ones, but I haven't because my
not Oh, it's very noticeable because if you take
if you take the and God I can't believe I'm gonna
say this not that I'm looking at it Robot crotches
or anything, but the the big shut up the biggest
the biggest shut up The biggest color difference
I can tell is in his waist where it shows the
white stuff in dark No, but I know I'm just saying
that the colors, they vary. From episode to episode.
Yeah, I'm just saying I didn't notice. I don't
either, but shut up. Roger. No, actually we're
not. It's staying in. This is an explicit podcast.
Who gives a rat's ass? I just deny it because
it's not true But I was trying to point out the
fact of where on Where on the robot that I noticed
the color the major color difference and that
is where that that Underneath it where his where
his hood is and his chest is and obviously his
arms and stuff His headlights actually differ
too as well. But anyway, Brimlock hits something
with his tail and he and Daniel get sucked through
the floor. The Autobots on Cybertron and Spike
and Carly realize that Daniel is missing. A visiting
dignitary says that she saw him go off with a
Dinobot. Rodimus sends Magnus, Blaster, and the
cassettes after them. I got to say I don't think
I put it I don't think it's in my notes, but
I do have to add in we see rewind and steel jaw
well, I'm still John is isn't is in the some
of the lower notes, but uh... but uh... yeah
ram horn but as the first time we've seen rewind
really and he is supposedly the new auto bot
scientist and and and his story and that knows
everything about anything in can decipher anything
basically taking preceptors place almost but
the first time we see this is the movie did we
see oh yeah okay Okay, yeah, I know I remember
now and it's it's been a while so yeah Yes, yes,
so after that they are dumped into this foreign
universe or world or alternate dimension Grimlocked
is duping into hate into helping the bad wizard.
The battle erupts, Daniel learns the truth that
the golden one is good and the red one is evil.
The red wizard is actually a banished Quintesson
who had world domination plans basically. Yeah,
usual plot, usual plot. Let's see... uh... the
at uh... well yeah i have very few notes in this
the episode uh... yeah we can but uh... yes this
is very short and very few and far between kids
the last two notes that i have is the episode
ends with the autobots and daniel going back
above the dimension uh... the one thing i did
notice the d on daniel's left side of his clothing
kept going away and then being there and then
going away again It was like, in different scenes
it kept fading in and out. Yes, very annoying.
That would be annoying. Yeah, that would be almost
as bad as some of his crotch. Shut the hell up!
I think that would bother me. That's not the
point! The point isn't that his crotch changes
colors, that his whole frickin' body changes
colors! I'm just saying I didn't notice the D
either. But I think that this episode had enough
things screwy with it that we can forgive it
some color issues. I mean, there was a lot of,
how should I put it, extras in this episode that
was just, you know, well, I mean, it was kind
of like watching... What was the the the lion
the witch in the wardrobe movie where you have
the so -called epic battle of all the different
I know which in the wardrobe you've got articles
of Narnia Yeah, yeah the Narnia movie. Yeah,
all right, you know, you've got all these monsters
that are that are fighting and It's like well,
you know I think they kind of tried to get something
along those lines where you've got like a cutscene
of oh look There's an army battling the red wizard
and they're having their ass handed to them but
at the same time it's like wow there's there's
an awful lot of fighters and you know they're
like barbarian hordes running running up up to
the side of the castle and being pushed back
but but i mean there's there's lots of monsters
and and uh you know there's lots of stuff yes
for a second there i thought you said barbarian
whores that's that's right Armored horrors Yeah,
I I think this was a nice episode It kind of
reminded me a bit of Yeah, whatever, you know
essentially everybody goes back in time and then
they do a little and then they all go home Yeah,
and this was literally a dungeon. There was a
dragon involved the The gold wizard what they
call the gold wizard Old wizard. He's uh, you
know, he says check me out man. I got a chalice
on my head The chalice gives me power and then
when I do have to say now that I'm thinking about
it The best part was that they used blaster as
a karaoke machine to to spit out the spells the
counter spells Yeah, I think yeah, I think there
was a huge shout out to the I don't want to say
the Muslim community, but All of the quintessence
had yeah names. Yes or middle sounding names
And I'm wondering is like all are all quintessence
named that way because up till now? Quintessence
have just been you know kind of nameless Duplicates
of each other They all kind of look the same,
sound the same, but we don't really know their
names. Well, going back, and I just actually
now remember this because I was looking for a
couple of things that we had mentioned in episode
17. So I'd actually gone back and fast forwarded
through all five parts of Five Faces of Darkness.
And I found out where Bluey Juice came from.
It's when Spike captures the quintesson that
was released with them. that was guarding them
when they start making a run for it and he goes
all right Quintessence you better let us go your
buddy here is gonna be bluey juice and The other
Quintessence go. Well, we have sentenced judge
deliberated to death. So they started And then
site goes tell me your name isn't deliberata.
And so I mean they didn't start naming So they
did start naming them. I don't think a majority
of them have names. You're right, but Um, they
did name it. Yes. Bluey juice. I need to get
that clip. I need to get that clip. That would
be so cool. Just use bluey juice all the time.
Yes, exactly. You can play that later. Okay,
there are some equivalences that I had to pull
out here. The first is hieroglyphics plus spaceportals
equals stargate. Start exactly that's where stargate
got the idea from Yeah, I mean yeah, it's a higher
literally hieroglyphics and you press the buttons
in a sequence right and you go into the space
portal The other one that I noticed was a anything
with a tentacle equals quinazan The minute they
showed the the red wizard raises arm his tentacle.
I was like, oh, it's a quinazan You know, you
know it and it was you know, it was a good call
on my part Even that even when I was like 12
years old. I saw this one. Yeah, yeah, yeah the
Quintessons pretty much ruined I was gonna say
run not ruined run the entire third season the
most part of the storylines Yeah, I mean they
were the new bad guy I mean Galvatron wasn't
really fit to lead so we didn't have like in
season one and season two we didn't have yes
every episode Megatron try another tactic try
another tactic try another tactic they always
failed but he kept trying whereas with Galvatron
it's like I'm not really interested in trying
tactics exactly just gonna blow shit up and basically
yeah whatever the quintessence pointed him at
he's like that's what I'm gonna go blow up today
and uh wooden transformers yeah uh all of the
guards let's say you know they like the whenever
the quinison or the red wizard uh wanted to imprison
somebody or you know his henchmen were well there's
two different types of henchmen the first ones
were the the the wooden transformer they were
literally robots made out of wood Yeah, that
was interesting because we hadn't seen that before
And I was like, that's good. I wonder if they
transformed. I Don't think they did. They're
probably you know, action masters. I wouldn't
action master transformers, which is an idea
there Kitbatchers out there, but I thought that
was neat though wouldn't transform us The other
the other henchmen's were kind of like yes They
were alternate because if you seen them from
behind they would look like wooden transformers
before that's strange Probably is No, I'm just
saying yeah, yeah, you're probably right cuz
like I said before I think all of these episodes
I have very limited notes in this episode today
The only other notes I had pertained to the end.
Not the end, but the flashbacks. And, you know,
the episode's over and they said, you know, we
got a few minutes here because we didn't write
this one very well. Maybe we'll throw a flashback
scene in there. And they start off with, you
know, oh, first we have Megatron and Optimus
Prime and they came from Cybertron and they landed
on Earth and they fought and fought and fought.
And my only thoughts are, you know, hey, Look
what you're missing. This is how good - Okay,
you're talking about the the history tapes Well,
that well that isn't part of the episode. I mean
that Yeah, well, let's just say the episode is
done. It's over with ready and because the episode
was written I don't want to say poorly, but yeah,
it wasn't a very good episode They have like
five minutes to kill at the end. So what else
are we gonna do? Well, let's have let's have
a review of the last three years of transformer
lore And literally, you start off with, hey,
look how cool we had it. Look how awesome this
was before we ruined it with the movie. Before
we killed Optimus Prime and replaced Megatron
with Galvatron. This is the cartoon equivalent
of, you know... You know being married and and
having your wife take your manhood from you and
put it in a jar on a pink flowery shelf And you
stare longingly at it saying I remember when
I had my manhood and it was awesome And now I
don't and I can only stare longingly at it Yeah.
But, uh... Yeah. It's like, honey, can I have
the manhood? I'm gonna go out with the boys.
No, no, the manhood stays tonight. In the jar.
That's funny. There's your manhood now. Oh, I
think Rodimus has it. Well, good. Rodimus is
floating aimlessly through space again. And he
won't be seen. Okay, and on that note, we are
going to end this episode of the DFG One podcast.
