About this Episode

TFG1Mike and Ryan Porter wrap up Marvelous March by discussing two landmark Wolverine stories: the classic miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, and Mark Millar's Old Man Logan. They explore Wolverine's journey from reluctant warrior in Japan to aged farmer forced back into violence, examining the character arcs, art design, and shocking reveals across both tales.

It's all inside the pull bag here, on the Geekcast

Radio Network. And now, on with the show. Hello

and welcome to The Pullback. This is episode

64. This is the finale for Marvelous March here

inside The Pullback. I am your host TFJ and Mike,

and joining me once again is Ryan, Mr. Positively

Nerdy. Hello, sir. Hello, Mike. How are you doing?

Great to be back. Yes, pretty good, pretty good.

So have you wrapped up on your Batman Beyond

homework from your Origins episode? If by wrapped

up you mean haven't even started, then yes. Nice

So episode 64 is the final episode for 2014's

Marvelous March and of course we got to go out

with the Berserker Wolverine old man Logan. Oh

boy You know most People that are my age 33 34

somewhere around there most people that grew

up in the 80s probably avoided Kitty Pride and

the X -Men, if they knew it was good for them.

You're referring to the cartoon? Yes. Ah, Pride

of the X -Men, yeah. Yeah, Pride of the X -Men.

I started out with... Actually, it's funny. I

started out both with the X -Men animated series

in the 90s, but also Spider -Man and the X -Men,

the video game. Oh, yeah. It was kind of around

that same time, and... Cathal J Dodd had an awesome

Wolverine voice, he really did. I always wonder

what happened to that guy. Couldn't tell you.

I haven't seen him do anything recently at all.

So that was my introduction to Wolverine and

all of his stories and since then I've watched,

sadly I've watched X -Men Evolution. That first

season is horrible. It gets better as it goes

along but that first season, ugh, god. You don't

like, you don't like the X -Men evolution? Not

the first season I don't. I mean, you know, you

make all those mutants sparkle. It's basically

Twilight. That's all it is. Yeah, too much high

school crap. I can see that. Yeah. And then of

course you had Wolverine in the X -Men with Steve

Blum voicing Wolverine. I really like that show.

That show should have got more... More seasons

behind it, but sadly no and also superhero squad

with Steve Bloom doing a comical version of yeah

I love superhero squad show. It's pretty awesome

Yep, and you know I've seen Wolverine and several

other things like What was it Wolverine versus

Hulk or Hulk versus Wolverine or something? I

was Hulk versus and they're the two chapters

were Wolverine and Thor And Thor, yeah. I've

seen some of those. I haven't really got into

him with comics, and obviously I've seen the

three X -Men, well, five X -Men movies now. Technically,

The Wolverine is almost an X -Men movie. I was

going to say, I think that's six. Coming up on

seven. Days of Future Past will be the seventh

X -Men film. Will it really? Yep. One through

three what origins first class at Wolverine Oh

first class you forget about first class. It's

very forgettable. No, it's not Right now yesterday

three was better. Oh, I'm I'm okay. Well, this

was the shortest podcast appearance I've ever

made First class, I liked it. I liked it for

seeing a young Charles Xavier. I liked it for

basically just, you know, Wolverine just saying

screw off. You know, I like that, but it just...

I didn't like the team that they put together

in that. Why do you like X -Men 3, though? That's

the bigger shock to me. I can understand if you

don't like first class. It's Frasier. It's Frasier

as Beast. It's Kelsey Grammer as Beast. How can

you not like that? I think that casting was brilliant,

however, the rest of the movie was a festering

pile of a turd that won't flush. People still

talk about how terrible that movie is. Yeah,

and I still enjoyed it. I enjoy it because it's

the characters from the, it's most of the characters

from the previous two films. Okay, sure, Brian

said you're sick. All dying. Okay, yes, all dying,

but, you know, it's... Ever since Hugh Jackman

and I and I had never seen anything with him

until X -Men I think most people could say that

Right, but what I'm saying is ever since he took

up the like Wolverine to me at that point was

the 90s version was the 92 animated series, right?

And sure, I've seen Wolverine cosplayers, I've

seen some really good ones and stuff like that,

but I'd never really seen or thought of Wolverine

outside of the animated series. And when Jackman

got the role, it's like the animated series came

to life on the big screen. And sure, Origins

Wolverine sucks, but I still like it because

it's him in the role. Ugh, alright. Well, we're

never going to get to the comics if we keep this

going, so. Yeah, no. You're welcome to your opinion.

I'm not going to criticize that. I'm shocked

by it. Let's just say that. I mean, First Class

is OK. It's a nice starting point for today's

audience if they hadn't seen the first three

films. But it just wasn't my kind of style, really.

I'm very excited for Days of Future's Past, though.

Yes, me too. Alright, so what was your first

experience with Wolverine? I'm I know Pride of

the X -Men was probably up there I know I know

I know he had to have popped up in spider -man

at some point but I He did you I know I know

he did they've got they've got some great appearances

and I've always loved the relationship between

spider -man and Wolverine, but I I'm gonna go

ahead and even though I know I read comics before

this I'm gonna go ahead and say X -Men number

one the the adjective was X -Men Claremont Jim

Lee I Mean that's my first like really like whoo

-hoo. It's Wolverine moment I know that wasn't

my first exposure to him, but that was definitely

like me finally really getting into the character

and thinking he was you know the best there is

that what he does kind of thing and I know he

was definitely a a fan I guess fan favorite whatever

you're gonna call it with the the the kids in

like you know my classroom in fourth or fifth

grade whenever that issue came out and the again

the cartoon and everything else everybody loved

Wolverine and that has not stopped you might

groan you know he's the he's overused and yada

yada yada but he's overused for a reason and

Wolverine one you know came out last month I

guess it was and A brand new number one and it

sold like hotcakes. So you know people clearly

they can complain that they're sick of it, but

obviously they're not so Wolverine is one of

the main X -Men one of the main mutants in the

Marvel universe that People can easily market

right, you know the studios can easily I mean

sure a lot of die -hard Deadpool fans will go

see Van Wilder as Deadpool, that's fine, but

you're not going to get four, five, six different

movies out of Deadpool, I don't think. I would

hope not. I can't believe they do two or three

comic series of Deadpool at a time. Oh, boy.

Two or three? Not at the moment, but at times

there have been multiple Deadpool ongoings. Oh,

wow. That's nuts. Yes, it is. Alright, so we

are here to talk about, first up we will talk

about Wolverine, the Claremont Frank Miller story,

and then later on we will be talking about Old

Man Logan from Mark Millar. So stay tuned, we'll

be back after this. Lousy luck. Alright, so Wolverine,

now I... All of the comics that we've done here

in Marvelous March, I was originally going to

buy from In Stock Trades. It would have cost

me a hundred bucks. And then one of our other

hosts, Joe Reed, who does the Turtles ongoing

with me, he said, why don't just look at the

library? I'm like, that's a pretty good idea

to save money. The problem is the library copies

are, like, the libraries and people that borrow

books from public libraries, they have no respect

for comics. Ah, yes. Because this book the Wolverine

book looks like it's it's thankfully there are

no It's funny, I didn't mention this in any of

the other Marvelous March episodes, but Episode

62 when we did this, when JT and I did Spider

-Man Blue and Return of the Black Cat, Blue had

the first page basically just sitting there in

the book. It was ripped out. Return of the Black

Cat looked all ratty as hell as far as the condition

of the book. You know, so it's just one of those

things. People at libraries just do not. do not

really care about the condition of the books.

Now I did try to sit here and read this opening

letter from Claremont. I got probably a paragraph

and a half through the second page and I'm like

okay let me just read the comic now. Yeah it's

like most of his writings it's a little long

-winded. Well I mean he's explaining the process

of how they wanted to to come up with this story

and everything else. And I do find that interesting.

I'm not going to say, oh, hey, I'm going to take

a point off this book, because no, I'm not going

to do that. So now a lot of the times, so far

inside the pullback, when I've seen older comics,

I always specifically Marvel. I don't know if

it's with DC, because I haven't read a lot of

the older DC stuff yet. When I've read older

Marvel comics like Punisher Year One and even

Spider -Man Blue in certain places, the art just...

it just baffles me. Because the bright colors

and the... it's mainly the brightness of the

book and how colorful it is and how these artists

seem to think that yellow is the bright, you

know... Bright mustard bleeding yellow is the

best color for a background shot. Yeah for a

background color It just it just pisses me off.

I won't have that problem here I mean sure there

are a couple of yellow pages and stuff But I

mean I overall the art in this is absolutely

amazing now. This is where they got They took

part of this for the Wolverine correct. Yeah,

they kind of pick part of it's not all of ya

kind of picked at it a little bit for the Wolverine

movie. Yeah. I don't really love the story. Maybe

it's because I've seen the movie. And I find

that sometimes when I see the movie and go back

and read the book, it's like, oh yeah, like last

episode with Iron Man. couldn't get through armor

wars at all i was like i've i've seen this it's

iron man two or it's or it's the armor wars two

-parter of the iron man sir cartoon series i

just couldn't get through and extremists was

the same thing even though war analysis amazing

amazing writer and the art in in in the extremist

trade was was amazingly done by uh... as a crowd

off i think that's his name uh... You know, I

just felt like, oh my god, I've seen this story

before. But here, seeing this here and how this

is presented, I absolutely love it. What did

you think of the art overall? Well, it's always,

every time I go back to read this, it's always

baffling to me that it's Frank Miller. Because

he adopted such a different style shortly after

this. And I mean, they do credit a finisher,

so I'm not sure how much. of this he, you know,

quote unquote did even though he gets all the

praise for it in the world every single time.

But I mean, it looks like his early daredevil

stuff granted. But I mean, I think Frank Miller,

I think immediately I usually, you know, obviously

Sin City, but also things like, oh, why am I

blanking out? Batman or the Dark Knight Returns.

Yeah. Yeah. Well, he didn't do the art for year

one. Dark Knight Returns. Right. And 300 are

some of the things that pop into my head. So

when I go back to read this, it's always. i'm

just baffled that it's frank miller's art because

it's so different than what i know him to usually

do it again like i said i said a minute ago it

looks like his his daredevil work it's clearly

him but it's such a different than mainstream

style compared to what he adapted before so and

i totally understand you on the covers um it's

uh the colors excuse me i think i said covers

anyway um that's they're so like the coloring

is probably the biggest change, comics have undergone

uh... in the last twenty years or so uh... i

think this is even though this is even though

that obviously but yeah this is during the eighties

right it's is eighty seven i think they're so

just kind of one note if that's right and there's

a few spots with like Wolverine light and a cigar

or something in here and the light shining on

him that that actually uses color rather effectively

there's a lot of great shadow work in this actually

too with them like creeping through the shadows

and stuff and that's kind of not the norm and

I think that's part of what helps us stand out

so much because it was always this colors you

know this part of his uniform is brown, this

part of his uniform is gold, there's not a whole

lot of shading and stuff, and I think some colors

can overdo it now, so I'm not so sure that it's

a bad thing, that it's an old style of coloring,

because I think, like I said, I think a lot of

people like overdo it now and look at what I

can do, and just, you know, yeah, so it's good

stuff. So the basic story for the first part

here is Wolverine is hunting a bear who has killed

a bunch of people. And it turns out that the

bear was very poorly poisoned So he goes back

finds the guy who and I do I do like Claremont's

explanation of how Wolverine tracked the bear

Found the bear fought the bear and that's a brutal

scene. It really really is I mean the the image

where he's basically the bears on its hind legs

and he's basically on top of the bear getting

ready to kill it. That's an amazing, amazing

image right there. And what he does is he follows,

after he kills the bear, he follows the scent

of the hunters back to the bar. I love how that

works. That's one of the things I've loved about

Wolverine is his tracking. It's just so interesting

how he does that. Yeah, that's not something

they use as much as I feel like anyway That's

not something they use as much as they used to

once once in a while they throw it in because

the story You know is it's necessary for the

plot to develop that Oh Wolverine whatever and

they used it terrifically in the first X -Men

feature film when he knows that it's not Cyclops

Yeah, and turns just guts mystique. That was

pretty awesome Yeah, but I do like the more animalistic

side of Wolverine, and I don't always like that

he can just so easily fit in. Like, Wolverine

and the X -Men right now, which just ended sadly,

and as great as Jason Aaron is, Wolverine leading

the school is bizarre to me. As great as that

series was, it's just bizarre. I prefer the Logan,

the Wolverine that doesn't quite fit in, that

never really will, and doesn't have an Australian

accent, to go back to Pride of the X -Men. Yeah,

no Claremont makes them sound Irish with all

the O's he puts in his monologue here. Yeah As

long as he keeps saying bub I'll be happy So

he goes back to what I assume is his place of

Living or no. He's on a plane. He catches a plane

to Japan That's what it is Because after the

bar fight I Like that line of monologue Bob I

was hoping you'd do something like that the bear

lasted longer That's awesome so After that we

then go to Japan because Mariko Yoshida is in

supposedly in trouble or Something or other and

she kind of is because let's face it her husband

isn't exactly Behaving properly and no he's not

no I know this is probably classic Wolverine

uniform, but I kind of don't like the orange

and yellow. Oh, the tan and gold is my favorite

Wolverine costume. We are just destined to butt

heads today, man. Love this costume. Absolutely

my favorite costume. I don't know. I mean, it

is classic. It does look kind of good, but it's

just that first shot when you first see it. That's

really my own. I don't know. Maybe it's the way

the shading is done on it. that i just kind of

don't like it but after a while i used to it

that's one of those coloring things i definitely

mentioned with the yeah the lights of the city

i'm assuming shining in on him i'm not sure yeah

they're going for there but yeah the uh... the

tan and brown uh... love that Wolverine costume

yeah like on the on the next page when uh...

when he finally does meet up with mariko and

she tells that you know he sees what she's been

going through the fact that her husband's abusing

her he's ready to basically go gut the guy on

the drop of a hat yeah yeah that bottom panel

there i like the the tan and gold there it's

just the that other page where the coloring was

just yeah it was so such a weird effect um so

yeah he's uh he's gonna go gut this guy and of

course She kinda stops him, but somebody else

throws some stars at him, no one knows who it

is, or we don't know, we don't find out who it

is until later. Now, explain this to me, because

all I know is, like with Wolverine stories, is

the X -Men cartoon. Is... Mariko and Yuko, are

they supposed to be Yuriko from the series? Did

they just combine those two characters into one

for Lady Deathstrike in the X -Men Animated series?

No, I believe, as far as I know, that's something

different. Or is that her origin? I guess I don't

know Lady Deathstrike's origin. I don't know.

I'm not sure. Maybe the listeners can tell us.

They'll not be shy about it, I'm sure. Let's

hope. So, Wolverine has a fight with her father.

And it's a side of himself that he never wanted

her to see, but of course her father is going

to cheat. Yes. What I love about this is, what

I love about the way that this is traded in the

trade paperback is, and I couldn't tell you,

I'm assuming it's the same way in the single

issues that - It does not look like this is her.

I'm sorry, I'm just looking at DeathStrike's

page and yeah, it's not her. Okay, that's what

I figured But the way that the way that this

is done like during the fight between him and

Yoshida, it's So it's basically taking One one

panel of the page where you have Yoshida coming

down on him with the face and then the background

and yet mustard yellow and then kind of orange

and then obviously black cuz he basically kicks

Wolverine in the head, but the action next to

it when he first does it, it's against the white

background of the book. I absolutely love how

they're basically saying, hey look, we don't

have to always have individual panels with a

white background page, we can just take the white

background page and put the character on it.

I absolutely love that about the art. They do

that quite a bit in this series. Yeah, they do.

And it's not an easy thing to do. It looks great

when you do it right, and it looks awful when

you do it wrong, and they get all kinds of right

throughout these four issues. Oh yeah. And so

the fight happens. He ends up waking up in the

Ginza, and apparently Yuko, I believe that's

her name, but according to this, as a reader,

the mysterious woman. Yukio. Yeah. Yukio says

that Wolverine is hers now and forever and it's

to be continued. The end of our first issue.

Yep. I'll tell you one thing I've never really

liked about Wolverine sometimes on covers is,

like I said before, I don't mind the tan and

gold, but why does his hair have to look blue?

Seriously, come on. because that's how you highlight

black in comic books apparently so next thing

you know he'll get his doctorate and become a

beast maybe he will he's already a professor

of a school we never thought we'd see that so

who knows what the future holds for wolverine

so the second issue starts and yukio and wolverine

are surrounded by the hand I'm sorry. That's

the worst name for an organization ever All these

members of the hand are using their hands for

something really really wrong So, let's see they

I gotta say though the story with with the monologue

from Wolverine that Claremont writes I absolutely

love it because you know a lot of the lines are

just amazingly great they really are I I agree

with you to an extent I think he's incredibly

long -winded and well I mean in this day and

age most comics were like this unfortunately

Claremont is still like this he's a writer who

refuses to modernize his his storytelling which

I guess in some ways I can respect but and some

of the lines are great but they're also extremely

repetitious how many times do we have to hear

Wolverine say If not the exact same thing close

to it, but you are right Wolverine does have

some great lines of dialogue in this as well.

On the one page, on the first page when they

wake up, and he says, their intentions are obvious.

I treat them accordingly. Trouble is, they didn't

come alone. I mean, I can hear, whether it be

Steve Bloom, Cathal J. Dotter, or Hugh Jackman,

I can hear each one of them saying those lines.

Oh yeah, and it's a great take on the character.

Oh yeah. No, definitely not in dispute on that

one. Yeah. So, they escape... while all these

looks like Hawkeye is attacking him which we'll

get to later because the the title page for this

is debts and obligations and it's them breaking

out of the window with all these arrows flying

up at them give me a gun any day over an arrow

I guess I don't know well you're not you're not

a ninja that's why yeah that's true Too old and

too fat to be a ninja and too lazy And I do love

like in this fight is there as they're Blasting

out of this place. I do love the the shot of

him basically throwing his claw and The stuff

bouncing off of it. That's just awesome. Yeah

That's amazing art and then the shadowing of

all these guys falling Precursor to 300 which

I mentioned earlier No, he has almost that exact

same panel later on in 300 with the guys falling

off the back of the cliff Yeah So we wrap up

the fight Yukio and Logan go off to I when I

assume is her house. I I just assume that and

and that panel um, oh no, it's It's at his hotel.

His hotel does not look like Apra and I know

they're in Japan and I've never been to Japan

so I can't really say that I know Japanese architecture.

But it doesn't look like a very safe hotel because

the way that the panels are, they're laying,

he's laying on the couch and they've got all

the, it's basically a top -down view. Yeah. And

the panels surrounding it look like they're all

windows. Yep. That can't be safe. Or very private.

No! No. Not at all. So, Yukio basically wants

him and he doesn't want to even deal with her

because he's still in love with Mariko. And she,

of course, is still saying that he is hers. And

then she's got this whole other agenda because

she's actually working for Mariko's father, right?

Yep. What a cliche. A lot of ins and outs in

this... these set of characters for this story.

Yeah. A lot of backstabbing, betrayal, all that

good intrigue. Yes, exactly. Now, so the Ishida

clan here... Did they just throw in, like with

the movie, did they just throw in Silver Samurai

just to throw him in there? It never even happens

here. I believe, and I'm not the best Wolverine

historian, so someone's gonna yell at their iPod

when they hear me say this, but I'm pretty sure

her brother is the Silver Samurai, Mariko's brother.

which is kind of what I was waiting for and because

I think that's what it is because that's what

I was waiting for in the feature film where they

semi adapted this but it ended up being her father

which threw me and everybody else for a loop

and his giant stark tech samurai outfit um so

I think that's her brother is who the actual

silver samurai is but I've been wrong before

it'll happen again So we've got Yukio and Wolverine.

Looks like they're taking a swim. I don't know.

Well, they're sneaking into the... Oh, that's

right. They're sneaking into the tower. That's

right. And they can really get it holding their

breath and swimming underwater. One thing that's

always bothered me, and I know this is just a

comic book thing that you just have to accept

it, how in the world can Wolverine swim? Wouldn't

that animatium weigh him down? He can do a lot

and I know it's just one of those things and

you really yeah Well, I I know people both on

both sides of each of the big two companies are

gonna hate me for saying this He's the goddamn

Wolverine just like it's the goddamn Batman.

I know and I normally questions I don't really

don't don't nitpick like that at all, but I don't

know I just That always always crack me up a

little bit like oh, okay. He can see can swim

now. That's that's good It's all right because

they had that great shot too in in x -men 2 of

Death strike sinking to the bottom after you

know Wolverine pumps are full of adamantium,

so yeah anyway moving on So they break in they

Fight this huge ugly looking samurai, dude Looks

like half -brother. Sorry, going back to Silver

Samurai. He is the illegitimate son of Shingen.

He's the Silver Samurai. So, thank you, Wikipedia.

Back to the story. And they have, you know, this

dead -on battle and it says that his cut draws

blood and so does mine. I'm really what I did

like in reading this story. I really did. I really

don't have too many complaints about it I just

wish it was I Wish it wasn't so At points I I

felt kind of lost cuz you have Shingen who is

trying to what I assume is protect his daughter

from Wolverine and Then you have Is it cut story

you have the the other guy? Yeah Was I was so

lost with that because it's like what is the

other guy even doing around here? It's a that's

Miracles husband, right? Oh, is it is that who

am I thinking of the same person you are? Yeah,

I don't know I I keep thinking that the hand

is is is some other organization that isn't her

husband The hand isn't the hand is Yeah, let's

see. Yeah, it is a little convoluted, I'll give

you that. It is, yeah. It's also repetitious,

which doesn't help, because like you said, the

line about, he cuts blood, so do I. That's like

the first of three times we're going to see that.

It's incredibly repetitious, just doesn't help

decipher who anybody is from anybody else. They're

not drawn in such a way that helps either. And

it's and again, it's it's a little and part of

it's just that's the nature of this kind of story

And you see it with movies, too Sometimes it's

hard to keep track of who's who and who's on

whose side and how could he betray him? I thought

they were already under for all night. They're

on the same team. Like yeah, it's yeah, it's

a little it's a little hard to follow So this

one ends with Them finishing the fight and Yukio

leaves or is it you see that's the other thing.

Oh, I see Mariko. Okay. She doesn't bother. Okay

Yeah, this this one confused me too when I was

rereading it for this that he pulls that woman

out of there and it's not Mariko But you think

it is Mariko and yeah, it's a little bit. It's

a little yeah, I Do love the cover to the next

chapter. He's like come here bub. I got a problem.

I want to talk to you about And then there's

I would assume is the alternate cover of him

on his knees. Yeah so and now we We they yeah,

he repeats himself a lot. I'm now noticing that

well It is also at the beginning of every issue

Yeah, I mean I guess that when you're sitting

down to read it all at once I guess that makes

it a little more frustrating than back in the

day when you were getting this one month at a

time so Yeah, yeah it does And I guess that's

kind of good but and again you'd normally I don't

mind the When trades sometimes do that where

it might be repetitious. I can kind of get that

but Yeah here. It's and I do like his and I do

find it refreshing What why he's doing it here

because he says I used to be a secret agent.

I used to be a hero Now I'm drunk. Yep. So I

do kind of like that. I thought that was a really,

really awesome way to, even though it is repeating

itself, it is adding one other thing that he

is. Yeah, there you go. Yep. And again, the art,

I'm really digging it. I really like it. It's

not like earth shattering, but it's pretty good.

At least the colors aren't, you know, blinding.

So that's kind of... There you go. Yep. And Wolverine

threw the guy through the window. Yeah, he did.

Instead of killing him. I'm just gonna throw

you through the window. I'm not gonna kill you,

but I'm gonna throw you through a window. The

sad thing is, now that I look at this scene again,

when I just look at it versus when I was reading

the story earlier, the only thing I can think

of is John Cena. In the marine when he throws

the guy when they throw him out the window they

throw John Cena out the window Never saw that

one So yeah this issue is lost or not lost loss

and we've got So we've I believe that's... who

is that? Oh, that's um... That's his secret agent

buddy. That's his secret agent buddy, yeah. And

I really hate this scene. Secret Service, there

we go. I really hate this scene, not just in

this story, but any story where it's like any

person has to choose between their best friend

or their girlfriend. That's just so cliche. Yeah.

That is just so cliché. But I do like his...

I do like Logan's response, though. Move your

hand, Asano. Move it or lose it. Yep. Again,

Wolverine, I do like a lot of his quippy lines.

Because he's one of those... He's being literal.

Most people aren't when they say that. Yeah.

It's a figure of speech. Wolverine's being literal

when he says that. You take one of those old

scales, and you put Spider -Man on one end and

Wolverine on the other, they're gonna probably,

and I don't mean by weight, but when you stand

them each on part of that scale, they're probably

gonna come out dead even, but Wolverine's gonna

go a little lower because he's more serious with

his quips than Spidey is. Yeah, they're more

threats than quips. Yes, yes they are. So they

have so Yukio and Logan have a fun night on the

train tracks and She basically wants them to

get hit by the 200 mile -per -hour bullet train.

Oh Boy, she's got a woman's nuts. Yeah. Yes,

she is That woman is just nuts uh... so we have

one other battle coming up uh... which i believe

this is him this is in dreaming he sees dreaming

of this you know epic battle to win mariko back

and when she wakes him up uh... he basically

said he basically says mariko not yukio and she

kicks him in the head yes is a little upset about

that Yeah, and it looks like Chun Li's lay looks

like Chun Li's super kick So we go back to The

apartment which I believe that's her apartment.

I think so this time I think yeah yeah yeah that

yeah that's her place and uh she killed his secret

agent buddy yeah she did she killed us on all

that's not good or are they back in his i think

they're back in his hotel room actually i think

you're wrong again sorry because it's the three

-sided windows and the secret agent man wouldn't

have come to her house he would have gone to

logan's hotel room oh that's yeah you're right

you're right So there we go. I don't know why

she killed him, though. That to me didn't make

any sense. Yeah, they don't show it, but Wolverine's

like maybe, you know, wrong place, wrong time.

Instinct kicked in. Somebody she didn't immediately

recognize. Or the fact that, let's face it, she's

playing both sides against the middle at this

point, and this guy's going to get in the way.

so yes that's true so we've got her being all

crazy and going up against them they it's basically

her versus logan now and i love the way that

they pull up the snaked i love how they they

do that every now and then it's always interesting

to see how many different ways they can do it

and it's it's it's her versus him and then it's

him versus the hand which he obviously realizes

that she's working for mariko's father clan clan

yoshida yep uh again the art even in these battle

scenes the colors like the like the bold colors

of the what i assume It's supposed to be rain

against the windows on the one page Where he

says? No longer the garden has been wrecked its

pattern broken order turned to chaos the story

of my life The colors are not so bold and so

bright that it distracted me from the story which

I like that a lot, right? And the final page

for this one was Because I'm a man Shinkan not

a beast a man that mistake is going to cost you

to be concluded So And again The blue hair I

know it's I know it's a shading thing and it's

it's not gonna it's not gonna affect my final

score of this book, but it's just one of those

things where And at least in the final chapter

he says I'm Wolverine you're smart you don't

want me for an enemy so at least it's something

different that's true so the story here is is

we basically pick up where we left off but Wolverine

is is out for blood basically hunting the entire

yeshida clan and all all the operations so There's

that. And then he does finally come up against

Yoshida himself. I love the note. Tonight. That's

it. That's all he says. Wolverine is king of

the one -liners. One -word liners, actually.

It's so interesting how they do this story with

the... with this art. I really am liking that.

It's so interesting how Japan fits into comics.

Like I've said many times in the show before,

I only started reading comics two years ago,

so it's really interesting to me as a first -time

reader seeing how certain things are done. So,

Yukio is back, and... Yukio and Yoshida and all

of that and they have a battle between them He

says I responded at once do you hear Answer me

and it's basically Logan's there. He's He's coming

for them all. Oh, yeah What do you think of the

story so far Coming up for this last one. Well,

I think this is I think we saw like kind of him

kind of Come to peace with who and what he is

and he's had enough being played and his best

not his best friend But I certainly a good friend

has been killed and the woman he loves can't

stand him so he's I think he feels like he's

got nothing to lose and let's just end this so

at this point in the story any concerns about

repetition any concerns about it being you know

of kind of a tangled mess are all about to get

sorted out so it's it's pretty exciting at this

point to think about moving forward yeah and

this final battle is just intense Between him

and Yoshida. Yeah, it's just it's really intense

We move as one blade hissing through the air

as we pass I'm hurt bad and he knows it But no

quarter is asked and none is given. I absolutely

love that Again, it's one of those things where

you really do see that Wolverine is a fallen

samurai Yeah, and it's really really awesome

I could do without the pink background color,

but I'll let that slide. And again, the page

layouts are so interesting in here because you

have that page that I just mentioned with the

pink layouts. You have a horizontal page and

then the very next two pages is it's all vertical

panels i really love how they're doing that as

far as telling that story right and and how they

lay that out that is so awesome um and then it

ends with uh uh it and it basically the battle

is over it ends with uh Mariko tells me later

that they had Shingen survived our duel, she

would have slain him herself, and then have successfully

taken her own life through... Seppoku? Yeah.

Well, but he kills Mariko's father. Yeah. Overall,

I really do like... Wolverine I thought it was

great the story was great and it was one of those

things where it's so funny where I've seen Iron

Man 3 and then I read Extremis where I felt reading

extremis. I had felt like I seen it before Reading

this and seeing the Wolverine For some reason

I didn't have that feeling of oh, I already know

this story. No, they do change quite a bit of

it Yeah, and I think it's I think it's mostly

for the best Like I said, they do kind of get

rid of some of the convolutedness of it, but

you're also taking a story that's that's has

its own comic continuity and you need to make

it fit into a brand new movie continuity so you're

not going to be able to you know make it fit

exactly I think it's cool they take um you know

little bits and pieces here and there but uh

it's it's not necessary to straight up adapt

this story or at least I don't know at least

I don't feel that way oh no I mean what what

they did take was fine and I and I do like how

they spun it in the movie of him saying he can

he can cure Wolverine and Yeah, I thought it

was good a good adaptation like it's not it's

not a page -for -page Adaptation, but it's they're

gonna take these awesome elements of this awesome

story and make it fit the movie universe And

I thought they did that really well All right,

we're gonna take a quick break and come back

with old man Logan after this I go So up next

we have Wolverine Old Man Logan by Martin Millar

and Steve McNiven. I'll say this now I really

prefer these kinds of stories versus like I can

read an origin story but I only want to read

it once. You know, or I can see a movie with

an origin story, but I only want to see the origin

story once I don't want to see it every ten years

right that they put a new movie, you know But

the future stories or oh my god What has happened

to these people or what has gone on here? I really

enjoy those a lot and old man Logan is very much

a future story. Yes it is When did you first

read this stuff? Did you read it singly, or did

you wait for the trade? No, I definitely got

picked it up in issues when it came out. And

that's the crazy thing to me about this, is that

it did come out in issues. Like, this isn't an

event. This isn't a miniseries. This isn't something

they could have. fans love to complain about

the milking money for everything they possibly

can. It just came out and you know starting with

number 66 of the ongoing title like it just came

out every month until it stopped coming out because

the schedule went to hell. But yeah it's not

a miniseries it's not a mini event it's not anything

crazy it's just. these issues of this ongoing

which i think is amazing and that was definitely

as i read it and it was one of those things that

every month became the must read comic it was

i was so into the story when it came out i can

imagine i mean because it is a really damn good

story oh yes it is i mean there are several times

there's one time when we get to about probably

the midway point of it i was just shocked I knew

you already know what I'm talking about. We'll

get to it. Yeah, I was I was just like oh My

god, no, they didn't yeah, they did They I love

how Wolverine at least old Logan at least in

the in these covers I love how the claws look.

I think the claws look amazing. Yeah Like in

the in the trade where it says chapter one that

that to that two page spread Where the clue where

the blood is ripping down like I absolutely love

that visual. I Don't have the trade. I guess

I guess I got screwed out of that visual So we've

got We've got Wolverine actually, it's no it's

not Wolverine. I'm sorry. It's um It's basically

nobody knows what happened to Wolverine and He

basically ran away and became a farmer Pretty

much And we should say that this takes place

what 50 years in the future I think it's about

that. Yeah. Yeah So Mel Mel Gibbs, oh, I'm sorry

not Mel Gibson not Mad Max No, well I was going

for more of a patriot vibe where he's laid down

his arms. He's not going to fight anymore. That's

what he did in the Patriots. Logan has a family

now and he's a farmer and he's got a wife and

two kids. It's interesting to say the least.

It's definitely a different take. Yeah, some

of the pages where we see him these early pages

I'm like why is old snake married you imagine

a Metal Gear Solid Wolverine crossover that would

be so awesome so we see his home life and it's

very interesting and it sets up this thing of

How the Hulk gang now controls everything in

California and They charge rent there there there

be this whole universe here in these stories

is they all are landlords right It's Interesting.

It's kind of silly. That's former superheroes

and super villains would be landlords, but it's

interesting Yeah, well, I mean that's kind of

the way the Hulk is at least run his territory

and and Keeps everyone in his area in fear Yeah

Because heaven forbid that he He Hulk out So

you've got the Hulk gang in the fantastic are

That was awesome, by the way It is. I love all

the spray -painted jokes with four, like the

dead and forgotten and unforgiven. Yeah. Yeah,

that's so awesome. And you literally have one

of the only female whole breastfeeding right

there. That's a little bold. Miller does like

to do a little shock and awe whenever he can.

Yeah, that works. Now these hulks, obviously

this isn't Banner because Banner's in his cave

waiting for Princess Leia to show up. We'll get

to that later. But these hulks are his family

and they've come to collect the rent. My question

is, because it's never really said... Wolverine,

how they get money to pay rent in the first place.

That's my only question. I'm assuming as a farmer,

he sells what he grows. Yeah, that's true. That's

true. So the Hulk gang pisses him off. Puts out

the claws for the first time in probably a very

long time and basically cuts one of the hulks

and his wife is like Logan Stop it. And then

of course he goes back to his subservient self.

Oh, I'm just a farmer I don't have an animal

in me anymore. I raise animals Well, they may

get pretty clear that he's something horrible

has happened and that he's yeah, you know refuses

to go back to his old ways Yeah um and I do like

uh forget what his son's name is but uh get your

hands off my paw I do like that I think that's

awesome yeah it's an awesome awesome visual there

so the hulk gang takes off and an old friend

pays a visit an old friend an old old friend

quite literally an old old friend an old friend

that is now blinded It's Hawkeye, ladies and

gentlemen. I guess all those days off in the

ongoing didn't really help. So Hawkeye has a

job for him. And I got to say, I do love that

their chemistry in here. It's so good. And you

could think of, you could make a list before

you read this of. 15 characters that Wolverine's

gonna team up with for this and Hawkeye is not

on the list anywhere and yet it works so well

and he's blind on top of that which I think is

hilarious that he's not only is he blind but

how little it Slows him down Yeah, no, but the

yeah, I mean the just the just the panels with

them. My name is Logan sure it is The two of

them. He's pushing Logan's buttons every chance

he gets. Oh, yeah. Well, that's what Hawkeye

does, no matter how old he is. He pushes everybody's

buttons. Indeed. Now, when I first saw the next

page, I'm like, hey, it's Wolverine's old...

No, it's not. Why are there spider things on

there? It's a spider jeep. Yay. Spider mobile,

man. Love it. Oh, my God. I will say about Old

Man Logan about these issues that it was a really

interesting way to not necessarily bring the

band back together, but incorporating most of

the characters. Well, it just it just reaches

into so many aspects of Marvel or continuity

and history and stuff like that. And just literally

dusting off the Spider -mobile has got to be

pretty high up there on the on the list of just

crazy things that Mark Miller pulls off with

this series. And it's it's so awesome. So Something

I was not expecting is once Wolverine or Logan

that's you know accepts this job from Hawkeye

I was not expecting the The the page with the

map showing you of Exactly how the villains have

taken over I eat this kind of stuff up this I

love it. I thought it was great I just I wasn't

expecting it wasn't something that I was expecting.

Oh, no, definitely not. You're not You know or

it's not part of the story you think it'd be

at the end or the beginning of an issue but not

you're right in the middle of the well, it's

pretty much the end but It's I just like I said,

I love this and I just remember pouring over

this Just thinking it was like the greatest thing

ever and like all the little like why does electro

have his own town and just all of these all of

these little things here and there and little

Snippets like electro Ville. Yeah, and the fact

that hulk land used to be belong to the abomination

Well, where the abomination what happened there?

So it actually like not only is it fun to just

go through and look at it But it just raises

so many more questions and it's like wow This

is really quite a world that that Miller has

constructed with this story I'm surprised. There's

not like a scroll haven or something like that.

I see a pre haven which is weird, but Guess maybe

scrolls are more welcome to come and go so because

we're still a little ways away if we're still

a couple years away from Secret of Asian at this

point, so scrolls weren't top of mind that I

guess Yeah, I was born in the city And being

from Michigan and actually Lansing I have to

point out that's more like Flint than Lansing

just Just just nitpicky throw that out. So You

know, I'm surprised they didn't try to take over

Canada. Yeah, nobody has any interest in Canada,

apparently. Canada or... Yeah, and Mexico looks

like it's cut off, too. I mean, it doesn't even...

Wow. That's crazy. Well, I guess you'd think

about it as I don't know about Mexico, but Canada

apparently only has the Alpha flight, so... Yeah,

that's true. Who knows? Yep. And the last page

of chapter one is get ready for the ride of your

life. The cover for chapter two is really interesting

because you have Logan and Hawkeye standing above

the graveyard of Captain America, Spider -Man,

The Thing, Daredevil. Miss Marvel. Cyclops, Miss

Marvel, Thor. That's very, very interesting.

So they go through all these towns because they're

going, they're trying to get to, what is it?

New... New Babylon. New Babylon, that's what

it is. Which is old Washington DC. So they're

going through all these towns and it's again

the art here like this is I guess I'm one of

those people that are more for current arts than

I am for the old style and I love I Love this

art It's all being given is is I don't know maybe

Civil War, but I don't know that when he's ever

been better Than he is in this in this story.

It's amazing Yeah And we get to so they get through

the town and Hawkeye who was blind while driving

Yes, is heading for this cliff and he's like

Hawkeye look out would you relax and we see them

basically? There is no cliffhanger here folks.

They just plunge right over. Thumb on Louise

style Yeah, pretty much. It's the spider buggy

dude. She can take her own share of knocks Now

I I know this comes up later But I could have

sworn that was where he said it's it's the spider

buggy it can do whatever spider -man can that

comes up Yeah, that's a little later. Yeah So

Wolverine wants to know what they're what they're

carrying and Even I want to know and even I'm

disappointed like Logan is when he assumes its

drugs and it's like oh Hawkeye You're doing that

again Well, this is a character that started

out as a villain and now you're in a world a

Run and controlled by villains. So it'd be very

easy to just be like, yeah, I'll you know fall

back into the old ways again So we get to San

Francisco they go into this building and we have

these things called moloids Yes Apparently can

cause earthquakes at a moment's notice and basically

drag everything down Don't want to mess with

the molloys, man. No No smell anything all dead

We do yeah, so I guess despite my earlier complaint.

We do get into some Animalistic Wolverine and

him using his senses and stuff quite a bit actually

in this in this story. Oh, yeah And we have a

bunch of ghost riders, so let me get this straight

Let me get this straight When did this come out?

Oh wow, 2006? No, well, I think Civil War was

07, I think, and this was after Civil War. As

long as it came out after Batman Beyond, because

now that I'm seeing that it says Ghost Riders

and there's a gang of Ghost Riders, I'm thinking,

come on Marvel, way to rip off the Joker's gang.

Yep, it was after Civil War, it was 2008. June

of 2008 was the first issue, and we didn't get

the last issue until a year changed later, September

of 2009. Wow. Yeah, the schedule went to hell,

I remember that. I remember being very frustrated

by that, but life goes on. So we've got the gang

of Ghost Riders, and Hawkeye's all worried about

the cargo. We also have I Know these guys are

supposed to be ghost riders, but I'm sorry the

guy that says fight back He looks like he has

a Punisher skull on well. They're all sorts of

mixed up I mean we don't get any clarification

on if They're legit ghost riders as in you know

deal with the devil Which you could see happening

in this kind of world that you know there's a

lot of more a lot more souls available for Mephisto

to manipulate. Yeah, they definitely have some

Punisher kind of symbolism to them too. Who knows

what these guys have going on? Yeah, I don't

know what they have going on because the faces

are painted with Punisher skulls and then in

the shot where Hawkeye basically shoots the guy

through the head, you see the aftermath and he

basically... I see two Punisher skulls in the

aftermath on their shirts. So I don't know what's

going on with that. It's quite an amalgamation

of things. And that's just one of, like I said,

what the map just brings up more questions. A

gang of Ghost Riders with a lot of Punisher -type

logos. That brings up a lot of questions, too.

Maybe it's a crossover. Who knows? Well, that's

the thing that's that's that's kind of what I

mean because you could Marvel could have turned

this into an event old men Lugans an event and

you get them you'd get all these side Tie -ins

that would explain everything that you know,

you get two or three issues of why there's a

ghostwriter Big gang so it's who knows so Hawkeye,

you know After this battle of him saying that

he's pissed off with you. It was pissed off with

Logan as it is He asks him, what the hell did

they do to you? And he says, they broke me, bub.

The only reason I'm still alive. So, and then

we go to... Does Hammer really need falls? Really?

Does Justin Hammer really need Niagara Falls?

It's not named for Justin Hammer. Oh, it isn't?

No. Oh, it's for Thor. Yes. It's hammered. Well,

yeah, where Mjolnir fell. Yeah. So they go there.

Again, the art is... it's absolutely stunning.

It's incredible. You can't... You can't... I

don't know what you... You can't... You can't

not talk about how good it is. I mean, like I

said, with the exception perhaps of Civil War,

I don't think that Niven's ever been better than

he is in this... You know So we have Ultron or

some form of him That's one ugly design For who

sorry? Ultron. Oh, yeah It is a weird it is a

weird version of Ultron. That's sure that's for

sure. It's one hell of an ugly design It looks

like a cross between Skeletor and Hordak Hordak

and Roboto looks like they all had a brainchild

so Ultron is there to take them back to Tanya's

who apparently is Hawkeye's third wife yeah and

apparently her apparently their daughter is trapped

and needs rescuing and their daughter is the

granddaughter of Peter Parker yes indeed I love

current comics because I don't need to learn

anything. How the hell is she the granddaughter

of Peter Parker? She just is. Oh boy. I do like

the spider suit though. That's kind of cool.

Yeah. I'm not sure what's going on in the trade

and maybe I'll take a screen cap of this and

show you But after that page was showing the

daughter it basically shows and it does this

for every chapter after this Basically shows

a white page with blue and what looks like a

bunch of tree branches But it's I don't know

what it's but I don't know if it's supposed to

be part of the map or what's going on with that

Huh, but that's kind of weird in the trade. It's

yeah, it's nowhere in the issues. I can tell

you that So we get to the next one and It's basically

Hawkeye arguing with his wife About saving their

daughter and Wolverine oh I love Wolverine of

course we're gonna help her. I'm not a complete

dirtbag Hawkeye says speak for yourself. Oh Man

yeah, I was Not expecting them to have to do

this to have to go deal with with with her with

the daughter No quest goes this plan. There's

always a side track things that'll get you sidetracked

Yeah At least they didn't have to comb the desert

looking for her. That's true So So Wolverine

and Hawkeye make a new deal and Ultron says Mr.

Logan for luck sir and he gives him the X -Men

it's I don't know if it's supposed to be a necklace

or a keychain or what it's supposed to be but

it's it's something to remember the X -Men oh

if only this computer knew what the hell he was

doing here it was The next page, is that him

flashing back? Yes, definitely a flashback. The

explo - okay. The explosion, because that - I

was - I - I knew what it was, kind of, and I

was like, kind of, huh, that's... weird. So.

Hawkeye is so - Hawkeye has always been insensitive,

but he is really insensitive here. Come on, dude.

Charlie Xavier was faster on his - Wow that's

not so subtle Jim there no not at all So then

they're they're driving through the desert and

they find This one guy who was basically climbed

as further up as he can because the the Molnoids

are swallowing they've been swallowing several

towns and This was one of them and And and Hawkeye's

like come on actually needs us more than he does

leave him there So we do have daredevil and Punisher

in this because we go to some stadium yeah, where

they are Some weird costumes though I like them,

but they're not your standard because we're now

in the kingpins area I Wish the kingpin kind

of looked more like Michael Clarke Duncan here

Busta rhymes, but that's okay These are costumes

either from the future so they changed over time

as they always do Yeah, there are costumes that

were just given to them for the theatricality

of their public execution so yeah Frank looks

a little worse for wear and those dinosaurs aren't

gonna no they're not gonna help it off no so

we get the dinosaurs basically mauling them basically

they eat them alive that's a little gross and

you see you see Logan and Hawkeye come up and

Logan's looking around and what I do like and

I find, and this is just me being, you know,

the guy that draws conclusions to everything

here. Well, sure. When Logan is looking through

the binoculars, when we see the view, I'm like,

hey, that's Bruce Wayne's sonar technology from

The Dark Knight. It does look a lot like that,

you're right. Yeah, it does. So, story so far?

Thoughts? We talked about at the beginning, I

just love these, like, I don't know, parallel

timeline, alternate timeline, potential future,

whatever you want to call it. I think they're

amazing. I think all of the ins and outs of,

again, just nods to Marvel history and Marvel

continuity are amazing. uh... it's uh... this

is a story that truly gets better and with that's

well too much what happens later but all the

stuff they've been building throughout this entire

story all pays off at the end uh... i don't have

any complaints about the pacing about the story

about anything this is close to perfect i think

as a story like this gets oh yeah i completely

agree the only kind of complaint i have is that

the trade is Had to keep putting it down not

that I didn't want to read the story, but because

I'm sitting here like oh my god I'm gonna get

end up getting carpal tunnel syndrome here eyes

because it's very the trade is very thick I Don't

so I usually enjoy reviewing stuff from trades

more than I do single issues but I don't know.

It just depends. I had to go dig out my issues

for this. And believe me, they were in the least

accessible long box in the house. And I wasn't

going to go out and get the trade just to reread

it for this. But it was fun to go through and

look at the ads, especially for other stories

to remind you what else was going on in comics

at the time. So in some ways, it was kind of

cool to be able to read the actual comics again.

A little travel back in time, as I read Wolverine's

future. Yes, yes. So here is where we have the

Here's where we have the spider buggy quotes,

yes I absolutely love this that they're basically

just crashing through buildings with this car

Does whatever spider -man can you know it's it's

very very awesome And then Ashley's like, yep,

that'll be dad. And then we get the biggest,

one of the biggest twists in the whole story,

actually. Yeah, I was not expecting. I'd forgotten

all about it when I reread it to talk with you

today about it. It was, I was like, oh my God,

I totally forgot about this. It's amazing. Yeah,

that is going to be the one. This next, this

next panel here has got to be one of the bloodiest

things I've seen in comics. Yeah. It's it's brutal.

Yeah She basically slices his head off with a

shotgun ladies and gentlemen. Yep. I Don't think

I've ever seen that that's what the proportionate

strength of a spider will do for you Yeah, so

be assuming she has her grandfather's abilities.

I think she does right to an extent at least

I assume, I would assume. I don't think she's

just gonna put the suit on just to have, just

to wear the suit. Outside of this panel though,

we don't really see her exercising any real superpowers,

but you don't decapitate a man with a blunt shotgun

without having some sort of superhuman strength.

Yeah. I don't think I've ever seen this done

anywhere. No, no. And like you, I was just like...

Oh my god. I mean, I like the fact that she used

his line against him, but that's just brutal.

Yeah. So she came there to seize control of the

kingpin's quarters. Yep. Her father is not exactly

pleased about this, but he's kind of a nothing

he can do about it. Literally, literally old

man Hawkeye blind old man Hawkeye is at the mercy

of his back crab crazy granddaughter or daughter

excuse me daughter yeah yeah daughter uh and

then Wolverine's like damn it to hell Hawkeye

for making me do this yep he's getting back into

the old ways we knew it was coming but it's uh

it's if if i thought that page was bloodier i

didn't have any uh i went into this with like

zero expectations of whether like what to really

know from it because I've never read this story.

I don't even think they've ever adapted this

story into animation or anything else like that.

Sadly, they have not. Yeah, I think it's a little

too violent. I think if Marvel took the way of

the DC films, the PG -13 DC films, this would

probably be the first rated R animated Marvel

film with how violent this is. Oh, for sure.

And it's one of those things if you're not going

to do it. Right, don't do it. Don't exactly.

But yeah, Wolverine's on... Logan is on a path

to becoming a Wolverine again. Yep. Slowly but

surely. I love the build of this. It's great

that he doesn't just all of a sudden go Wolfie

Berserk. He does it begrudgingly, he does it

gradually, and it totally makes you even more

excited to get to that point. Yep. Yeah, I mean,

it's just amazing. The story is just so well

good. And again, I love the spider buggy. How

can you not? How can you not? Best Jeep ever.

I mean, this thing just crashes through everything

and it's fine. So they leave... They leave Ashley

he's like not guys like Jesus Logan nice kid

you got there just shut up and drive And Ashley

sends her her minions after them and we have

a nice little chase scene with RVs and cars and

SUVs and dinosaurs dinosaurs savage land imports

love it I don't see how the savage land is still

around but okay yeah okay apparently it is you

know and of course we get the thing of strap

yourself in quick and and then the cave in because

the Moloids are at it again and two hours pass

And they are both underground and the Moloids

are closing in on them. Yes, and they have green

glow sticks from the 80s Must have been somewhere

in the spider buggy Yeah, kind of like flash

putting flash bars kind of like Superman grabbing

the old flash bars in Hereafter in Justice League.

Yeah Oh, man. Yeah, here it is. We got Parker's

old car, don't you remember? It does whatever

a spider can. I love that. There are times where

I'm not thrilled when a book will do a horizontal

panel where you have to turn the book, but...

That does look really cool from both the vertical

and the horizontal. Yeah. So they make it out

in there amongst a herd of dinosaurs. And they're

at Paste Pot Creek, Wyoming. And we have venom.

We get all sorts of cool stuff. This is a great

sequence that shows all sorts of stuff and raises,

again, even more questions about... this insane

world that we're experiencing in this story.

Talking about an insane world, Red Skull on Mount

Rushmore, that's a little insane. I love the

giant Loki corpse buried underneath a building

too. Yeah, yeah that was pretty cool too. I mean

they're basically, you know, Millar in the writing

is throwing all kinds of stuff to us. Yeah. That's

very, very awesome. And then we even have a battle

with Mr. Sinister. I never thought I'd see him

in this kind of comic. I assume that's Mr. Sinister.

It looks like him. Oh, yeah. What's the flashback

of what happened to Wolverine? We're getting

further and further teased with it. Yeah, you

see Death Strike, Omega Red, and Sinister there,

yeah. It's very, very interesting. the flashback

the flashback causes Logan in the bar with Hawkeye

well excuse us lady I didn't realize tonight

was go ahead bub just try to make a joke of course

Hawkeye has to scream his name again to get him

to snap out and here's Here's where we get the

story and here's where we get the shocker I Do

in this flashback with starting chapter 5 I do

really like how Jubilee is is drawn and how she's

designed with the It's not her average pink glasses

like you'd see in the 92 series the curtain series,

but The fact that they're purple and shiny. I

kind of like that. Yeah kind of designed for

Now Logan's outfit in this, that's not the tan

and gold, is it? No, that's his, I think they

call it tiger stripe, the gold and blue. Was

this after Astonishing X -Men? That might be

his Astonishing X -Men costume. It might be.

I couldn't tell you, honestly. I haven't read

a lot of the X -Men comics. I need to. I know

I need to. You definitely need to read Astonishing

X -Men. It's amazing. And this is definitely...

yeah this is after astonishing x -men so okay

yeah which was amazing at least those first 25

issues where it ran for a while but the first

25 were friggin awesome so we get a bunch of

people breaking in this is the big mo this is

finally You know, just to make sure everybody

knows what's going on. This is what happened

to Wolverine. This is why he doesn't want to

fight anymore. Why he hasn't popped his claws

in 50 years. So if you've been reading this,

and especially if you're reading it at the time,

this is like half a year almost of anticipation.

And it does not disappoint, which, again, is

something that it's hard to pull off. It's really,

I mean, Miller built this up into something,

and it's about to... Deliver but is it gonna

pay off and yeah, it does It pays off in spades

and I just I should have mentioned this before

we switch to check for before we switch to this

issue the last issue ends with Wolverine or Logan

just basically telling Hawkeye sit down and I'll

tell you what happened. Yep And I can only imagine.

Was this coming up monthly back then? To this

point, it still was. It wasn't until the end

of the series that the schedule got all screwed

up. Okay, so between the last issue and this

issue, it was a whole month. I can only imagine

what it was like for readers back then for singles.

That would have really sucked. Yeah, it was brutal,

man. It was a long wait. Yep. So we have Wolverine

attacking all these all these what he thinks

are villains. Yeah all these villains storm into

the X mansion and It's it's Wolverine Berserk

like times 10. He just goes nuts Yeah, and later

it'll be like times 20. Yeah Because this book

gets really bloody really felt like up to now

I've been able to take it like all the blood

and stuff and everything else but later when

it gets where it goes it's like oh my god yeah

oh boy and uh Wolverine's like huh? Oh dear now

normally I hate this reveal not saying in this

issue or this story But normally any time this

villain is revealed as the mastermind. I Loathe

it. Oh such a cop -out for me. Love this But

but here in this story and how this happened

it makes sense And it was freaking awesome that

Mysterio was the guy. Yep. You only needed to

send one guy after Wolverine, turns out. Yep.

Send Mysterio after him. Make Mysterio make his

friends look like villains. And boom, Wolverine

kills all his friends. Insane. I mean, I just

remember, like, I could not believe it. Like

I said, it was just. months and months and months

of anticipation like what could have been so

bad you know what happened oh my god yeah and

build and build and build and build and for it

to deliver on this level and it was just such

a mind job it really was like I just well it

was nuts it totally delivered in a time in a

place like you didn't think it could because

obviously comics job is to uh to pump itself

up right you're supposed to They do everything

they can to make you want to buy the next issue.

And it's going to be the event that the Marvel

Universe will never be the same after this year's

event. And they do that constantly. And you never

quite expect it to live up to what it does. But

this was just, I couldn't believe it. It was

amazing. Absolutely amazing. And that's where

the flashback stops. It stops and we go back

to the present day. And Hawkeye's like, you murdered

the X -Men, stabbed every one of them right through

the heart. But I didn't know it was them, Hawkeye.

Mysterio made them look and feel and even smell

different. Yep. I swear to God, he had no idea.

Then we go back to the flashback where he's basically

going to kill himself. Yep, he's completely destroyed

by what he's done. So he's gonna try and kill

himself. Anything he says yeah, if I do basically

if I can decapitate my he's basically trying

to decapitate himself. That's the only way you

can think of to To get himself killed So he lays

his head down on the train tracks Yep, and it

doesn't exactly work no no it doesn't This kind

of sets him on fire a little bit with a lot of

sparks Yeah, it's it's just as brutal as you'd

think it'd be though, and it's it's nuts It's

very brutal. It really is It's very brutal And

you know Hawkeye now understands and Hawkeye

is not gonna make him pop his claws Yeah, because

of you know hearing this story. He gets it at

this point I do love though just to go to the

next scene the big revelation and it's just so

like just such an emotional gut punch and it's

crazy and bizarre and violent and Unexpected

and everything else is followed by probably the

most hilarious out -of -left -field scene in

the entire story. Because Dwight is awesome.

Ant -Man has a mini -me, ladies and gentlemen.

I don't know how this kid got the Ant -Man helmet.

I don't even want to know how. Oh, it's fantastic.

Yeah. It puts a new spin on the billy goat's

gruff tail, doesn't it? Just a little bit, yeah.

Eighty cents well spent. That's so awesome. And

then we see... Tyranno venom yes, that's a total

of just fanboy Here you go kind of moment to

again nice nice brevity to counteract all the

emotional aspects of this issue Because that's

just totally like here you go fanboys venom dinosaur

Yeah, that's a little crazy So we go to chapter

6 and the venom dinosaur is chasing them I didn't

know they were driving through Jurassic Park.

Where's Jeff Goldblum when you really need him?

Has anyone ever really needed Jeff Goldblum?

He's had some good roles over the years. He's

been in good movies. I don't know. Yeah. No,

no, no. Anyway, I kid, I kid. And I love how

because this book is not a A max title. I love

how they basically have to bleep everything.

Yeah and you have to figure it out for yourself

and And Wolverine basically says holy shit Well,

I think I would too to be fair so Yeah, if I

had a venom infused t -rex symbiote t -rex chasing

after me. Yeah First you say it then you do it

You know and then Logan tells him to man the

gun is Hawkeye go I know Hawkeye has amazing

hearing because he's he's blind But I'm sorry

how is Hawkeye gonna hit the dinosaur not the

gun that size you just gotta be pointing the

right direction I think yeah, that's true. Although

it doesn't work anyway, so maybe you know maybe

that idea didn't didn't happen. Yeah, no so This

was kind of jarring for me here because we have

this chase and we have them you know trying to

shoot the The venom t -rex and then we go elsewhere

and it's some Base Where people are watching

this unfold and of course as soon as you see

a pair of blue lips, you know who oh you sure

do. Yeah Good ol Emma Frost And she basically

Sends black bolt to rescue them, which was awesome.

Yeah that was very there's a nice effect yeah

the very nice effect but he could have said something

you know he could have warned them so just showing

up right in front of showing up right in front

of them and then just shown uh... and that's

the other thing i noticed about reading this

there's no really there's no real effects of

the I mean there is and there isn't in this with

the there isn't this I don't I don't well there

will be later a snicked but there isn't any automobile

in this at all hardly no not really and it's

so nice honestly it really is nice yeah I didn't

notice that ever but until you point it out but

you're absolutely right I mean there is the the

full page snicked later but I think I think it's

in this yeah yeah it is but So black bolt saves

them supposedly and then transports them back

to where Emma Frost is Because she's a mind reader.

She figures out what Hawkeye is is carrying right

It's a It's a nice little exchange. It's a nice

part of the story. It's a nice I Wouldn't say

a downtime from the action, but it's a nice little

Plot adjustment. I like to that. It's they're

not the only good guys left To this point. We

haven't really seen any Heroes no no and even

if they're not quote -unquote heroes. They're

at least some sort of resistance to the current

you know powers Yes, I do love the line about

I'm the most powerful telepath in the world I'm

just looking like how I want you to see me as

because obviously Emma would not still be that

young and attractive So I thought that was a

cool way to address that, but still give, again,

fanboys what they want in terms of Emma Frost.

Oh, yeah. And then we go to Doom. Well, they

leave. Right. See, that's the other thing. They're

leaving, but the panel next to it is Dr. Doom.

which I assume he's standing over where they're

leaving. I can't really tell. I see him. I think

he's watching them leave. I don't believe this

gets brought up again, but they are in Doom's

territory, aren't they? Yeah. I think it's one

of those things that I would assume that it's

one of those things that Doom knows what's going

on and Doom is more than willing to let them

do what they're going to do because it's going

to make Doom's life a little easier. That's the

only thing I can think of. Or that Doom is going

to go tell on them. Maybe Doom tells on them,

because I do believe they don't catch the bad

guys off guard. They do get sold out later. So

Doom actually probably tells on them, actually

is what happens. Yeah, because they are in Doom's

world. So I think it's like, all right, well,

you're not as covert as you thought, because

Doom saw you and he's going to go tell. And that's

how they get screwed later on. That's right.

So a lot of these towns are about people falling

or hammers Yeah, this one was a little nuts,

too This was nuts. This was kind of gross and

it was just like, oh my god. Yeah Wow Yeah, and

Yeah, yeah pinfalls. Yeah, that's wow and a great

two -page It's not too often you see a two -page

spread that's not some giant action sequence.

I really love how they use the two -page spread

here just to show the scope of this, well, corpse

or pile of bones at this point, really. It's

not even a corpse at this point, so. Yeah. Yeah,

it's nuts. Really effective use of the two -page

splash, too, though. Yeah. And we get to New

Babylon, where anything can happen. Indeed. work

family hate wow that's that's some some advertising

there yeah so the whole point of this whole story

to this point is that Hawkeye is transporting

super soldier serum because he believes he's

going to help a new resistance and create a new

team of Avengers yep And he wants to be on the

team. Of course he does. He's just like Rocky,

he just doesn't know when to call it quits. He's

always got to be in the thick of it. Yes, yes

he does. So that's what he wants, and then come

to find out, they kill every, they look like

they kill Logan. It's a giant sting operation.

Basically. There was no resistance. There was

no about -to -be group of Avengers This is all

shield and shield works for a red skull. So Yeah,

I Don't know if I like that You know, I don't

know. I kind of I kind of like the idea of you

know Being a setup the entire time. I like the

idea of a setup But I don't know if I like the

idea of the shield working for a red skull. That's

well, this is hardly a The same shield, they're

just using the name really. Yeah, yeah. And Hawkeye

dies as well. Yeah, he does. He gets a blue -

Yep. Poor Hawkeye. Right between the eyes. Yep.

And that's the end of chapter 6, and chapter

7 is like, oh my god. That cover is just disgustingly

awesome. Yeah. red skull wearing wearing the

caps outfit yeah oh my god that's and it looks

so weird like the art is great on it and the

art is great in the interiors but it looks so

weird when he puts the suit on yeah oh yeah it

really really does so we open with 50 years earlier

where we see the red skull and captain america

and the red skull basically kills him Yeah, and

then we go back to new Babylon and red skull

has all these trophies From the four former heroes.

Yeah, he's got daredevil. He's got one of the

Iron Man suits He's got the things arm or hand.

Yeah He's got Cyclops his visor. He's got Thor's

helmet part of daredevils costumes of the eye

of Agamotto and dr. Strange's cloak and The broken

silver surfer surfboard. Where's the broken silver

surfer surfboard? All the way to the left, next

to this. Oh, I didn't even see that. It's so

cool. I didn't even see that. Busted up vision

head, the web shooter and mask of Spider -Man.

Wow, that's nuts. Sure, one of those would become

useful at some point. Yeah. And Red Skull looks

pretty worse for wear. Even in the Cap uniform,

he looks super old. Yeah. Again, McNiven's artwork,

you cannot say enough good things about it. No,

it is awesome art. It just creeps me out seeing

Red Skull in Cap's uniform. Oh, it's definitely

effective. Yeah, very effective. Very very awesome,

so they They brought Hawkeye they brought Wolverine

I think yeah, yeah, yeah, they have Wolverine

too Hawkeye's dead obviously and Wolverine busts

out Basically he's gonna take the skull down

and he Doesn't probably doesn't really know how

but I mean it's Wolverine. He's gonna go berserk

on him. Yeah Well, I love the fight the fights

awesome, but that big like three -quarter page

splash of Skull hitting cap shield with the hammer

as Wolverine's holding cap shield the great homage

to the Captain America annual Where Captain America's

blocking Wolverine's claws with his shield nice

little like kind of role reversal there and stuff.

It's yeah awesome awesome homage to that cover

yeah yeah and then um and then again much like

uh like uh spiderman's granddaughter did we have

a decapitation oh yeah we do uh and ladies and

gentlemen i said earlier in the episode that

It gets bloodier from the point of the time when

she decapitated Kingpin I wasn't even talking

about this I was talking about late much like

the last chapter of this book is what like the

last part of it is where I'm talking about because

This was just an awesome looking scene, but this

isn't what made my stomach turn and I'm not even

trying to give it away So yeah, we get the decapitation

we then get We get Logan We get an iron Wolverine

lady. Yeah, we can have an iron spider. We can

have an iron Wolverine. Oh No, oh, yeah First

of all with this technology really be working

50 years later probably that's cool. It's a cool

quick way for him to get home uh... and yeah

i know that almost he almost gets home yeah almost

makes it and when he's blasting out of the white

house i don't even see the swastikas on those

now i see nothing but cobra symbols thanks to

retaliation nice so so the computer in the suit

basically is counting down the miles that he

has to go in and people are seeing iron man and

what the hell right what do you think it is sylas

is it human well under the shell it is mighty

fine shell it is too looks like gray chromium

from here and it seems to be clutching some kind

of case um so we get um we get uh we get home

but logan has to basically disembodied the suit

because the suit was run out of power um somebody

tries to mug him for the money yeah and then

36 hours later he arrives home and apparently

the hulk gang got bored so they weren't gonna

wait and even though he still had two weeks time

that's really sad yeah that's that's went through

all that to save his family and it didn't matter

yeah that's really sad yes and then he goes on

a vendetta to hunt down the hulk gang that's

when we get that giant uh two -page snicked i

i want this i somebody has to find me this because

i love that that is i was so not expecting like

the whole point of this entire story is he doesn't

want to pop his claws And throughout the story,

he's had to, for several reasons, as we've gone

along. But I was not expecting a two -page giant

snicked. I really wasn't. You gotta make it big

and memorable. Well, yeah, they did. And it goes

back to what you were saying about how the two

pages, you don't just see a two -page spread

that isn't a sole action scene. This is another

one in this story where it's sure we know what's

coming But just seeing in giant letters snicked

with an exclamation point. Oh, I love it Yeah,

I love everything about this book. Yep. There's

yeah, I'd agree with that you know, and then

because they keep calling him Logan and We get

the giant snicked and then we get the the claws

up and he says it's Wolverine Then you know some

stuff's going down Oh, yeah, because we get to

the final chapter and this is ladies and gentlemen

where I really freaked out because it's Well,

it's pretty awesome, but it's worth pointing

out this if you're reading this if you were reading

this in issues This last chapter is actually

giant -sized Wolverine Old Man Logan number one

because it had been so long that the Wolverine

Series had actually continued on and then rebooted

before this issue came out There was a tremendous

gap. The later issues, I do believe there was

a big chunk of space between those two, but this

one came out so long after the fact. Like I said,

they had already rebooted. You can make your

jokes, they reboot every other month, but that's

how long it had been. That series had decided

to keep going, and they're going to tell the

story in a giant size one -shot, and it just

took forever for it to finally come out. Yeah.

That's crazy. Oh yeah, it was. So the Hulk Gang

killed his family, so guess what he's gonna do?

He's gonna kill all of their family. Yeah, he

is. And this final chapter is basically nothing

but finding all the Hulkmen and killing all of

them. Yep. That's basically what it is. Basically

their entire trailer park. Yeah, yeah. I do like

the consistent reference to Hef's place. I thought

that was awesome. That the Playboy Mansion is

still alive and kicking 50 years later and they

still have young girls around for the Playboy

Mansion. I thought that was great. Yeah. So at

Wolverine's killing them all, killing them all,

and we get to... Oh God, how he kills one of

them with the bomb. That's... Yeah. It's Bo,

what's in his mouth? Oh no. Two, one, boo, I

just, it's just so awesome. It's, oh wow. And

then we've got the woman, and he basically...

Decapitates her and this is where we kind of

get into the more gruesome stuff Oh, yeah, if

it wasn't gruesome before in this in this story.

It's really gruesome now and he's just Cutting

people up left and right and we finally get him

to face Bruce Banner How is Bruce Banner alive

all this time? Oh the Hulk being being the Hulk

has its advantages. I think Okay, I can go for

that that's that's all I got for you so Yeah

So they basically duke it out as as humans for

a while and Wolverine basically just takes the

claws and guts him from stuff from chest to back

and he says that's for my wife and kids and That's

when Jabba the Hutt comes out. I'm sorry The

whole time. Yes, I know this is a very serious

story, and I know the Hulk hulking out is not

Jabba the Hutt, but when he eats Wolverine, because

that's the whole underlying thing here, they've

been eating humans. All their victims, really.

All their victims, yeah. Just to make sure it's

clear that you've been mentioning Bruce Banner

not as an accident. He's actually fighting...

Old Bruce Banner who has the Hulk strike yet

somehow and this is yeah, this is not a situation

of He's fighting the Hulk with you know Banner's

intelligence or anything like that. He is literally

fighting old frail Benjamin Button looking Bruce

Banner No, I know you did but we didn't really

make it clear. So anybody who hasn't read this

would think that we meant the Hulk No, it's it's

little old man Bruce Banner Yeah. Well, I did

say it's them fighting as humans. Oh, you did

say that? Okay, sorry. Yeah. And it's Wolverine

versus Bruce Banner as a human, and then Wolverine

cuts him from chest to back. Right. And then,

you know, he says, that was for my wife and kids,

and then... And he hulks out. And then he hulks

out. But the Hulk, when he... The Hulk looks

so weird in this Italy looks cool. I love the

design. I love the art He almost looks like the

abomination from the Hulk movie. Yeah, he yeah,

I can see that but He he eats Wolverine and when

he's sitting there after he's eaten Wolverine

I swear to God he looks like Jabba the fucking

odd. He does Yeah, I hear you So the scene of

him Chomping into Wolverine is pretty... Yeah,

that is so gruesome. It's... I mean, I know Wolverine

has healing factor and his healing powers have

helped him a lot over the laters and over the

years, I mean, but I don't know how he can come

back from that. I really, I mean, this is a Hulk

that I've never seen before. This guy... Yeah

This is not your Avengers size Hulk this is not

even crouching tiger hidden Hulk Ang Lee designed

Hulk this is you know This is like no Hulk. I

have ever seen this Hulk looks half alien I know

he's not but the design the way that Steve McNiven

designs him it it doesn't it looks like no Hulk

that I've ever seen before And when he bites

into Wolverine, you don't think Wolverine's gonna

survive that. Yeah Because I figured it would

just end and then all of a sudden he crouches

a 12 hours later He his his food's kind of gonna

come back. Yeah Yeah, it's I mean it's on par

with alien man, I mean that's a pretty brutal

chest bursting scene, yeah it's it's on par with

alien it's on par with with space balls that's

the first thing that comes to my mind don't order

the blue plate special and and the only other

son that's alive says what the hell what's a

matter better something you ate yeah and i do

like the twist though I do like this twist that

he does take Banner Jr. and he's going to take

care of him. Yeah. I do like that. I think that's

really cool. That does play out. And when Mark

Miller then went to go do Fantastic Four, old

man Logan, older man Logan, and this baby Hulk

all grown up are part of a future version of

the Fantastic Four. Oh, that's so cool. Yeah,

it's pretty amazing. That is so cool so Wolverine

is basically gonna go take back the world or

go take back the country and he's taking banner

jr. With him Yeah, the great line. I've kept

my head down long enough. He's gonna go be a

hero again, and that's pretty amazing Yeah, the

line before that is even it's not more amazing

than that, but it's it's still really good They

killed me 50 years ago, but and I got better.

Yep Just I love this This is so awesome in the

trade has Has a pinup by Maury Howell? Where

it's it's It's Wolverine bursting out a Hulk

and it's it's Bruce Banner jr. And kind of a

circular panel. Okay, and then it has the dynamic

forces her triple variant cover for chapter one

it's it's got a bunch of the very covers and

it's it's very very awesome uh... file chapter

paulo reverie referring cover with him on a horse

with warren on a horse uh... i really love this

trade this is awesome most of those they are

looking at my Last my giant size Wolverine number

one and most of those very covers are in the

back of this, too So, oh are they I mean, it's

easy to do since it came about so long after

Issue number one. It's it's hard not to so yeah

All right. We're gonna take a quick break. You're

Book Club of comics. You'll hear us discuss famous

and remember, the Force will be with you because

knowing us is half the battle. Hey, this is Steve

bloom and you are listening to the geek cast

radio network. Alright folks We are back and

before we close it out We're gonna give very

quick final thoughts on Wolverine by Claremont

and Miller and old man Logan by Millar and I

don't have the book in front of me. What's his

name? So we are basing this on the GCR and universal

rating scale 0 to 5 stars which includes half

stars I will post the link in the post so people

can see the ratings and these ratings all have

descriptions for them ladies and gentlemen so

even though it says five stars perfect four and

a half almost perfect we're not just giving you

those names without a description so Very very

awesome for Wolverine by Claremont. I I'm gonna

give it a four stars I really did like it overall

But there were a couple of times with the shading

and a couple of times with the coloring where

it's not like my normal hate of Old Marvel comics

and coloring. It's not that bright bright coloring

that you would have and like some of the 90s

comics and stuff like that but it just some of

that some of the art was just kind of Eh, and

some of the story was a little too convoluted,

but I did really like it overall. What about

you? Final thoughts on Wolverine? I'm kind of

with you in terms of the rating. I think I'm

gonna go ahead and give it a 4. I'm sure in terms

of importance and comic history, it should be

a little higher, but me personally, I can't go

any higher than a 4. It's definitely a one that

you'd recommend to somebody in terms of a definitive

take on the character of Wolverine. I just don't

know that the story is all that exciting. Yeah,

and just to be clear on our four out of five

stars, which is really liked it, the overall

quality is very high and surely to be a positive

experience for all those who partake. The issues

that are there are impossible to ignore, but

not predominant enough to have a large impact

on your experience. For Old Man Logan, I gotta

give it a five. I loved everything about the

story. There was stuff in that story that twisted

and turned that I was not expecting at all. I

knew kind of going in and it kind of made my

stomach turn I knew that they were like in the

beginning they kind of say oh you better pay

your rent or else you know you never know oh

but these people they know what's gonna happen

and they kind of hint at the fact that they're

all cannibals or at least that the that Bruce

Banner as the Hulk is a cannibal right it's kind

of hinted throughout but I love the characterization

between Logan and Hawkeye like you said Who would

you pick to put on it on a team up with with

with Logan? No, I would never know how many years

but it's so perfectly It works so so well as

I love it. So yeah, oh man Logan gets a five

out of five for me What about you? I I want to

sit here and be a little bit pretentious and

say that that no story is perfect No story deserves

five stars however, however This gets a five

star. Absolutely gets five stars. I want to thank

you for letting me come onto Marvelous March

and talk about Wolverine. If for no other reason

than I finally sat down and reread this story.

Since it came out, I've recommended it to people

and have sung its praises for years now, but

I've never gone back and read it since. reading

it in issues. And I probably, when Old Man Logan,

the giant size finale came out, I'm sure I went

back and read all the issues then. But it just

stayed with me so perfectly in concept if I didn't

necessarily remember all the details since then.

But going back and rereading it has completely

reaffirmed everything I said about how amazing

it was. The small nods from the spider buggy

on down to Marvel history. the the dialogue between

the two i mean it's basically one of those like

buddy travel movies except their former superheroes

in this insane villain controlled world and uh...

art by the given is absolutely amazing the story

by billard delivers are you wait and wait and

wait and wait to find out what the reveal of

why he's the way he is now was and it delivers

like normally that much build -up never pays

off in this one paid off completely and then

you know he's gonna pop his claws at some point

is just what's gonna make him do it and it totally

delivers that too absolutely across the board

five stars perfect yeah i mean it's just a genius

piece of material it really really is uh... alright

so ryan where can the people uh... find your

stuff, because you have your own podcast, you

have your own stuff that you do. Where can they

find your stuff? Everything that I do, you can

find over at PositivelyNerdy .com. That's the

home of the podcast, which is also the Positively

Nerdy podcast. You can find that on Stitcher

and on iTunes, or you can just go ahead and head

on over to PositivelyNerdy .com. Written comic

reviews, all sorts of editorials and top five

lists, and anything and everything that I think

is cool is either on the website or part of the

podcast. And as the name might suggest, all with

that positive energetic spin that you won't find

throughout most of the internet, so. Yes, exactly.

Alright, well that's gonna do it for Marvelous

March. We are done. We had Captain America, Hulk,

Spidey, Wolverine, and Iron Man in this year's

Marvelous March. I don't know what 2015's Marvelous

March is going to hold. Power Pack. Okay, I want

to read good stuff, dude. Just from the guy who

likes X -Men 3, yeah, whatever. For a second

there, I thought you were gonna say Power Team.

I'm like, they made a comic from Bigfoot and...

No, no, no, no. Oh boy. Yeah, I don't know what

we're gonna do for Marvelous March. I don't know

if we're gonna do the same characters next year,

if we're gonna pick different stories. I will

say after this first experiment with Marvelous

March, I prefer the more current. I don't mean

current as in right now Marvel, but like if you

take a book like... Boy, Old Man Logan is current.

Yeah. like that more than I do the older older

stuff I just do it's just the oldest like Wolverine

the Claremont story was fine I liked it I enjoyed

it more than most of the that generation style

but I prefer more of like the extremist or the

old man Logan kind of kind of art style and yeah

yeah cuz I don't know if I could ever go back

to 50s or 60s Batman unless it was well JT and

I do Batman 66 off the old TV show, but I don't

think I could ever go back to some of those old

comics. They just don't appeal to me that much.

Gotcha. So, alright, that's gonna do it for us

here in the pull bag. Coming up next in episode

65, I believe it's gonna be Steve and I talking

about the Bat Books number 30 issues. Now I will

also say again... After episode 65 the bat books

coverage is going to change drastically in April

because Well, we don't know yet, but I assume

they're either going to Remake him or they're

going to kill him for a time or they're gonna

I don't know have Alfred take him away to London

somewhere But something is happening to Nightwing

and it's basically going to ruin my opinion on

a lot of the DC stuff I do know, and I've said

this before in other episodes of The Pull Bag

more recently, that after April, my DC titles

will be cut down from like six or seven to three.

Ouch. Yeah. So when they resurrect him as a talent,

will you start reading that? Shut up. Just shut

up. They better not do that. Let's get out of

here before your head explodes, yeah. I really

thank you to everyone who is listening to Marvelous

March. Please go leave us iTunes reviews. You

can also find us on geekcastradio .com And it's

been a blast covering this stuff. I've learned

some stuff from the old stuff, and I've learned

what I do like and what I don't like about Marvel

and certain things. Most of the time, the stories,

I didn't have a problem with. It's just some

of the art styles that I have issue with. But

other than that, absolutely loved it. Thank you

to Ryan. Thank you to JT from Saskatoon. Thank

you to Movie Revolt Dan for doing the Captain

American Hulk episode with me. It's just absolutely

awesome. really really fun time absolutely loved

it and uh... like i said bat books coming up

in episode sixty five episode sixty six i'm gonna

be doing something to try to understand why everyone

loves the feds because i loathe the feds the

father got decapitated the son got eaten by a

monster i have zero compassion for those those

star wars characters so we're going to be reading

and going through uh... Is it bloodlines? Yeah,

bloodlines. Or blood ties. Blood ties. That's

what it is, blood ties. Tale of Django and Boba

Fett and blood ties number two, which is Boba

Fett is dead. So that's coming up all inside

the pull bag. Make your great escape into comics
