We started out with Transformers! Way back in 2008 Steve/Megatron was already 8 episodes into All Things Transformers. While I’ve been on a number of ATTF’s I really can’t speak about that podcast as it’s Steve’s baby. After I started listening to World’s Finest Podcast, This Week In Geek, TFWIRE, and a few others…. I was like I can do this podcasting thing. I had figured out how to use audacity through Michael David Sims of Earth-2.net. One of the biggest pieces of advice I’d heard Mike say was for a successful podcast you have to be passionate about the subject matter.
So this was the very first podcast I had attempted. As I said before I learned how to use audacity through Mike from Earth-2.net. I figured hmmm I can do this. I got a USB headset and started. My goal in The TFG1 Podcast was to fully analyze the Generation 1 Transformers cartoon. I turned off my nostalgia love for the series and wanted to really see what it was that everyone loved or hated about it. Yes I might have over analyzed the series, and yes the first 10 episodes of the podcast kinda suck. I figured out in those 10 episodes that I can’t host a solo show to save my life! So I brought Steve/Megatron in, then added PecanCtMichael to the episodes. After Michael came on board boy did TFG1 take off! There are a few supplemental episodes mixed n, but it took me 24 regular podcast episodes to cover all 98 episodes of Transformers Generation 1.
The Beast Unleashed Podcast
TBU is the FIRST and ONLY Beast Era Transformers in depth podcast! Steve being a huge Beast Wars fan had asked me early on what was after The TFG1 Podcast. He wanted to know the next thing on my mind. Well besides creating ToonCast, and talking about tons of other cartoons outside of Transformers! Because Steve loved Beast Wars so much, and I was rewatching the series i figured why not. I hadn’t seen Beast Wars in a long time. I sought out all three seasons on DVD. I found them through Rhino’s website at MSRP. I’d already had the Beast Machines Complete Series on DVD. I remember watching Beast Wars here and there during it’s original run, but I had never really paid attention to it then. So when I got the DVDs in the mail it was like watching the series for the very first time. I had seen a few episodes like the Agenda three parter and stuff like that. So Steve, Michael, and I reunited to go through the entire Beast Saga. Yes I realize Beast Machines was slightly different, but I still considering it the continuation of Beast Wars. Some people may or may not agree with me on that. TBU took us 30 regular podcast episodes to get through both Beast Wars and Beast Machines. Plus we had interviews with: David Kaye, Garry Chalk, Ian James Corlett, David Sobolov, Larry DiTillio, and Robert N. Skir. At the time that TBU started it turned into the darkest humor we had done to date. I blame Michael Wilson for this. However this was one of the podcasts I had the most fun recording and being a part of. And remember these two things:
#1 All roads lead back to The Low Road
#2 UNLEASH THE BEAST IN YOU!!!!!
Transformation Animation Podcast
If you ask me Transformers Animated was the next logical step after BW and BM. After all I disown Robots In Disguise. However if you ask PecanCtMichael he says RID should have been next after the Beast Era. I’ll get to that later. The big thing with Transformation Animation Podcast was that we were doing something new! By that I mean we had Michael, Steve, and I at the helm again, but this time we added Kevin as the Cybertronian correspondent. This was to give the podcast a new feel and a new perspective. For those of you who have listened to TAP you’ll know that OptimusSolo would report in every week from Cybertron giving his thoughts in brief of the episodes as a first time watcher of the series. Transformation Animation Podcast was a 20 episode run, and we completed the podcast in 6 months! That still blows my mind. In this one we examined all 39 episodes of TFA, the toys, the almanacs, and so much more. It’s time to GET YOUR TAP ON!!!!
All good things must come to an end. While we will ALWAYS be Transformers fans both Steve and I have been talking TF stuff since 2008 or before that! We don’t want The GeekCast Radio Network to just be “oh those guys that podcast about transformers” We do have other interests and we will be expanding on those in 2012 and 2013. We will come back and cover TF Prime in depth, but only after it’s at least reached a third season. As far as Robots In Disguise for me besides my unbridled hatred of Neil Kaplan as Optimus, once it gets a dvd release we will cover it.
In 2012 Steve and I will still be doing Legends Of The Dark Knight, and all the other main stay shows. Steve will be launching a few of his own shows as well, such as Xtreme Retro Gaming, and others. Kevin and I will be launching M.A.S.K.E.D. M.A.Y.H.E.M. and The Powers Of Grayskull Series. There is a lot to be looking forward to from us here at The GCRN. We hope everyone will stick with us as we transform and rollout to other podcasts!
