GeekCast Radio Network – Guide to 2012

Well it’s that time again for us to say, “So long” to the old shows, say “Welcome back” for the current shows, and say “Hello” to the new shows. 2011 may have been our biggest year so far, but 2012 is going to be HUGE! So to keep this short and sweet here is the 2011 / 2012 Overview.

TRANSFORMATION ANIMATION PODCAST:

For me, TFG1Mike, this show was the next logical step in our TF Cartoon series podcast coverage. However, PecanCtMichael still says RiD should have come after BW/BM. Transformation Animation Podcast was originally 15 episodes, which going weekly would have taken us right to the thanksgiving holidays of 2011. However, I felt that the podcast needed to round out at 20 episodes, simple because we hadn’t added in anything outside the cartoon episode reviews. So, I added in episodes about the toyline, and the almanacs. This has been the only podcast in the GCRN’s entire history that was started and finished in six months! This is also the first podcast where we tried doing stuff a little differently. OptimusSolo joined us every week reporting in from Cybertron, as a first time viewer of TFA. So, go Get Your TAP On, and listen to our thoughts on Transformers Animated. Also, check out the Future of TF Podcasting on The GCRN.

THE SECRET ORIGINS PODCAST:

And so it begins The Secret Origins Podcast is what kicks of the DCAU Podcasting coverage. First off huge thanks to Michael David Sims of Earth-2.net for giving me the title idea. This is our Justice League/Justice League Unlimited review podcast. Lupis Convoy from TFW joins TFG1Mike as they talk about 2 of the best superhero team up cartoons ever. It took us 5 podcast episodes to cover all 98 episodes of JL/JLU. We had lots of fun talking about this cartoon series. It ran from February 2, 2010 to February 2, 2011. So check out the first DCAU podcast from GCRN, then after that check out the next one in Legends Of The Dark Knight! The Secret Origins Podcast will live on in infamy!

TOONCAST CLASSIC:

100 Cartoons and more. The podcast that truly put The GCRN on the map. ToonCast Classic was a awesome run of great cartoon discussions. We covered plenty of ground in 100 plus episodes. As I’ve said before I always had the vision of ToonCast Classic ended at the 100 episode mark. I also knew how I wanted the show to begin and end. We started with the Nintendo Cartoons, and ended with The DC Animated Universe! While ToonCast Classic will live on in infamy, it’s time for us to go Beyond! As we leave the cartoons we grew up with behind, and turn to the cartoons of the now. ToonCast Classic will always have a special place in my heart, but I’m loving the way Toon Beyond is shaping up. Toon in Beyonders!!!

ALL THINGS TRANSFORMERS:

This great original GCRN Podcast received a much deserved reboot this year. In doing so, new segments were introduced and some remained. In this new version, the podcast took a more clean approach, including brief episode reviews for TF Prime, news that was relevant, and new guest hosts from our network. Although the TF news has staggered to a crawl, this podcast is not done. It will remain in hibernation mode so to speak until something new comes out that is worthy of our attention releases.

FROM THE COMMAND CENTER:

FTCC The Podcast is a collaboration between us here at the GCRN, and the fine folks over at PCN. Scotty Cash from Pop Culture Network joins TFG1Mike every month to look at each American Power Rangers series. Episodes air every month on the 11th.

GEEKCAST RADIO:

The flagship podcast. Originally intended to be a once every few months podcast where we would take a longer look at any geek subjects, has turned into a monthly and sometimes almost weekly podcast. Since the creation of the GCRN’s Top 100 Animated Series Countdown we have really hit our stride with this podcast. To date that was the biggest project we have ever taken on. OptimusSolo did an amazing job with his superb math skills, and we gathered 20 or so people to compile the final list. Granted the countdown is flawed a bit, but it was the first time we had ever attempted anything this big. GCR is still going strong, with topics covering social networking, TV Shows we hate to watch, video stores vs netflix, and so much more. There is no end in sight for the flagship show. Currently we are running a music spotlight that will take us past the end of 2011 into 2012. So UNLEASH THE GEEK IN YOU! with our flagship podcast!

GCRN WarZ:

This podcast was originally intended to be more of a heated debate so to speak on anything from Politics to Geekery. Now while it still may hit some of those areas, it will primarily be a Versus War style show since it’s much needed reboot in 2011. So far we have since the reboot covered a Flinstones vs Jetsons episode and there are more slated for 2012 so stay tuned for more WarZ.

LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT:

The Legend of the Dark Knight is discussed here. Ok enough of the pun of the show title. I, Steve “Megatron” Phillips, envisioned this podcast from the time I received the entire Batman The Animated Series and Batman Beyond TV Shows and Films. This to me was my favorite cartoon as a child and of course made perfect sense to bring in the other two fans of it now co-hosts, TFG1Mike and Tarah The RisingStar. Although starting in 2011 this show will undoubtedly run until sometime late 2013 due to the greatness that must be covered. So join us on our epic Bat adventure again in 2012!

MOVIE WEEK IN REVIEW:

Who broke the projector goddamnit!? Movie Week In Review is nearly at Episode 100. Over the last two years we have brought you reviews of films we loved, hated, and in between. There is no end in sight for MWIRE! Join us in 2012 as Steve kicks off his SNL Spotlight, Star Trek Spotlight, then TFG1Mike will go through all the Muppet Movies. That will take up the bulk of 2012. So keep watchin those movies!

TEAMBOTIMUS VARIETY HOUR:

The rantings of the super-famous YouTube reviewer Optibotimus. Join TFG1Mike and Optibotimus every now and then for completely random discussions. From Thundercats, to Matty-collector hell, and so much more! Go #TeamBotimus!!

THE TELE-CAST:

As we head into the final days of 2011 we will also be heading into the final days of Season 1 of the Tele-Cast. In this first season we have had a ton of fun looking back at the live-action kids shows we grew up with in the 80s and 90s. Although, we saw a minor hiatus in recent months, don’t you worry…OptimusSolo will be back with a vengeance as we power through the remainder of the Season 1 schedule.

That’s not all though folks!! In 2012 we will also see the launching of SEASON TWO of the Tele-Cast.  If you enjoyed our nostalgic journey during Season 1 then hopefully you will be equally as pumped for the next Season where OptimusSolo will open up the Action Block! That’s right buckle up for 30 of the best Action series of the 80s and 90s. Also, new to the Tele-Cast, Season Two will feature 5 ‘Re-Run’ Episodes which will pay homage to some of the best Action Series in Television History. So, start getting excited for tons of nostalgic action…starting in 2012 on…..The Tele-Cast!!

TOONCAST BEYOND:

What better way to follow up the GCRN’s most popular podcast, than to take it beyond it’s limits! That’s right ToonCast Beyond is here! We will be reviewing cartoons from 2000-to whenever now is. So far 9 Seasons have been scheduled. Join us in Season 1 as we talk about Superhero cartoons!

TOYCAST:

ToyCast will return with a masterful stroke of genius! Most of you that love ToyCast, and wish that it would return should be happy in 2012. The podcast will be coming back for a limited run. We are still planning the discussion topic episodes to finish out the 80’s episodes. After that will be a slight return to form about friends getting together to review their toys. Now for me that means talking about all the new MOTU Classics figures I’ll be getting. Once 2012 comes to a close ToyCast will then head back into the podcasting vault. Outside of Club Eternia 2012, I just am not collecting toys as I used to a few years ago. And I have other interests that I wanna talk about. After the 2012 episodes ToyCast will come back with one or two episodes every few months throughout the years. However it will not be airing on a regular basis. And before anyone asks NO I WILL NOT LET ANYONE TAKE THE REIGNS OF THE PODCAST. If you wanna do your own toy podcast then you start it up. On a personal note, besides not collecting as much as I used to… I just don’t have the heart to keep the podcast going after my good friend Optimus Scourge passed away this year. So 2012 could very well be the last year for ToyCast, we’ll have to wait and see. However ToyCast will be back starting January 2012.

Join Greg, Chuck, Justin and Gary for the #1 WEEKLY Joe ONLY podcast on the web!  No laser swords, no robots, no gladiators, no turtles, just Joe and only Joe.  Each week they summarize the news covering everything from the toys, the comics, the cartoon and the upcoming movie sequel.  It’s fast paced, it’s funny, it’s interactive and it’s informative. Please select best podcasters for this mission. In May of 2012 OptimusSolo and TFG1Mike will be tackling the cartoon M.A.S.K.  As we review all 75 episodes of the classic 80’s cartoon.

POWERS OF GRAYSKULL:

Fabulous secret powers were revealed us when we held aloft our magic swords and said, “BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL WE HAVE THE POWER!” That’s right a brand new podcast series comes to The GCRN in October of 2012. OptimusSolo and TFG1Mike will be reviewing every episode of each of the MOTU Cartoons!

REBOOTING MAINFRAME:

“I come from the Net–through systems, peoples, and cities–to this place: MAINFRAME. My format: Guardian. To mend and defend–to defend my new found friends, their hopes and dreams, and to defend them from their enemies.”

Enter the 1st 3D animated cartoon, ReBoot. In ReBooting MainFrame, Steve “Megatron”, Tarah “The RisingStar” and a possible 3rd host will sit down and discuss the great world of MainFrame. This podcast will cover all the seasons, the films, comics and possible revival for the future. So stay tuned for more details on this great podcast looking into your PC in 2012.

TABLETOP ENTHUSIAST:

What is this you ask? Well this is another show helmed by Steve “Megatron” that may launch in 2012. The idea came from Steve and his long time friend from high school, Mike (GreenGiant). This podcast will cover the pleasures of playing tabletop games in the form of cards, rpg, strategy and more. So stay tuned for more details on this in the beginning of 2012.

XTREME RETRO GAMING:

Originally founded as a website that Steve “Megatron” used to run which hosted emulators and roms. This once site and online magazine is now in podcast form. Thus allowing multiple hosts, ratings and discussions based on the games of yesteryear and the games of modern day. XRG will blast off in the beginning of 2012 with alternating games starting with a modern era MMORPG, DC Universe Online. So be sure to check back for this new and exciting podcast.

So there you have it folks. All in all a rather fully loaded year coming up from us here at The GeekCast Radio Network. We hope all the new podcasts will intrigue you, and hopefully everyone will listen in. And remember to always UNLEASH THE GEEK IN YOU!!!!!!
