With the success of everything we here at The Geek Cast Radio Network did in our first full year as a network of podcasts. We can only expand from there right? Well that’s exactly what we will do between 2011-2013 there will be four new shows that premiere throughout the years. More on those later…….
There are a few things we need closure on right? After all things must end before new ones appear. Three of our current podcasts will come to a resounding close in early to mid 2011. Those being ToonCast, The Beast Unleashed Podcast, and The Secret Origins Podcast. OK well technically TBU ended in 2010, but you get the idea!
Lets talk about The Beast Unleashed Podcast for a bit….. When Steve/Megatron first had me on All Things Transformers Episode 09 one of the questions he asked me was what’s next after TFG1. I said at the time I wasn’t too sure, a few weeks later after that ep of ATTF had aired there was a thread at the PredaconEmpire.com forums about what could be next. Steve had said something about a Beast Wars review show. I’d said that could be a possibility. I’d thought about it a bit and then I started the following thread at PE Forums: http://predaconempire.com/nexus/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=773 My only two mandates for TBU were that PecanCtMichael, Steve/Megatron, and I reunite to continue the chemistry that we had on the final few episodes of The TFG1 Podcast. The second mandate was that Steve HAD to make every episode record since he was the HUGE Beast Wars Fan. Out of the 30 regular episodes of the podcast Steve only missed 1 and three quarters of the show. TBU truly stretched the amount of explicit content that our red iTunes tags had given us. Just only 5 episodes into the podcast it turned down a very dark tunnel and we never really got out of said dark tunnel. The Beast Unleashed Podcast is by far the most fun and funny show that we have done to date I think.
Now for ToonCast……..Everyone should know the story behind this podcast by now. However I’ll condense it… a friend whom had listened to the Disney Afternoon episode of This Week In Geek…http://thisweekingeek.net/episodes/twig-episode-053 After listening to this Atrion84 asked me about doing a podcast for classic cartoons. We had talked briefly about the way the show would go, and thought of a list of cartoons that we could cover. When I was ready to record Episode 00 of ToonCast there was a slight issue Atrion84 had to bow out due to personal reasons. While I understand this it left me scrambling for a permanent co host. At first GeekOfTodd requested to be on the show. The only issue I had was that there was a huge generational gap between us. My first 15-20 episodes of ToonCast I’d planned were wayyy before GOT’s time. Todd can only be found on Episode 00 of ToonCast. There are no hard feelings between us it was just a thing of not being within the age group of cartoon watchers I was looking for in this podcast. I don’t know how but I remember Kevin “Optimus Solo” Thompson had mentioned he was a huge 80’s cartoon fan. My Knight Rider friend Duyahn also said he loved classic cartoons. So after Episode 00 aired Duyahn, Kevin, and I embarked on ToonCast. Duyahn was on the show from Episode 01-06, Episode 06 was A Pup Named Scooby Doo… I think Red Herring beat Duyahn up because he left the show after this episode. When I set out to plot ToonCast I had a specific vision for the podcast. It was to be 100 Episodes total not counting Interviews. The schedule of episodes has changed multiple times in the 2 years ToonCast has been on the air. On June 1 2011 ToonCast will air it’s final episode. Episode 100 – ToonCast: A Look Back will be a full retrospective of all the previous 99 episodes of the podcast. I actually got the subtitle of Episode 100 from a Cosby Show reunion special. So 2 years 100 episodes plus interviews is what ToonCast will be as it ends in June 2011. Fret not though even though ToonCast Proper will end there’s always the cartoons 65 years in the future…………..

Now to The Secret Origins Podcast………….I don’t know when but in the summer of 2007 before I even got into Hosting podcasts I’d found World’s Finest Podcast. http://worldsfinestpodcast.com/ At first because I was ignorant and thought podcasts were celebrity things I thought this show was done by Bruce Timm, James Tucker, and all the other main DCAU creators and staff. After listening to the first episode I knew it wasn’t that at all. You might think that this was disappointing to me. However I loved it. By the time I found out about WFP they were close to their 21st episode. So what did I do? Well I had Episodes 01-20 downloaded to iTunes. I proceeded to listen to the podcast. Minus time for sleep and work I’d listened to all 20 episodes in just 2 days!!! Michael David Sims and James Deaux the hosts of World’s Finest Podcast had me hooked. I’d loved the DCAU and seen several of the shows. I however never really saw most of BTAS as a kid, because my stepmother at the time said it was too violent and I shouldn’t watch it. I was 14 at the time. I had caught back up with the DCAU when Batman Beyond was on the air. I only caught a few episodes of Justice League and JLU.
Since then I’ve been obsessed with the DCAU. I’ve become quite the DCAU expert and have all the Complete Series DVD sets of BTAS, STAS , Batman Beyond, and Justice League. World’s Finest Podcast is in my opinion the one podcast that should be the only thing considered as a companion to the cartoons. In November 2009 Justice League came out on Complete Series DVD. I’d been kicking around the idea of starting a JL/JLU podcast. Big thanks goes out to Michael David Sims for helping me chose a title for this podcast. Some other titles I had were: Justice League Decalissified, and League Business. I liked the JLD title, but Mike gave me something more awesome. The Secret Origins Podcast. Lupis Convoy of TFW2005’s Podcast joined me on this super heroic journey. TSOP aired Episode 00 on January 4th 2010…. The official launch of the show was to be February 2nd 2010. The Secret Origins Podcast will have 25 episodes and end one year later February 2nd 2011. We review all 91 episodes of Justice League. I’ve said this before yes I know at the third season they completely revamped JL into Justice League Unlimited. However truly it is one 5 season cartoon!! I waited as long as possible to even break the mold on doing a DCAU Podcast. I refused to step on the toes of my favorite podcast World’s Finest Podcast.
…So with the old business out of the way and 2010 almost over lets give you a glimpse into The Geek Cast Radio Network’s plans for 2011 and Beyond! We will launch potentially three podcasts in 2011:
Legends Of The Dark Knight(LOTDK): This will be Steve/Megatron’s show with myself co hosting with him. It will cover every BTAS, Batman Beyond, and Batman DCAU Films. It will run 45 episodes. I’m super excited to start this show. It will either start Spring or Winter 2011.
Transformation: Animation Podcast (TAP): After The Beast Unleashed Podcast ended MY thought was the next logical step of doing a full blown review podcast on Transformers Animated. I say my thought because PecanCtMichael disagrees he thinks the next logical step is RID. My argument is that RID isn’t in the American TF Cartoon Continuity. We still have yet to convince Michael Wilson to reunite the off the wall comedy we had on TBU. However Steve/Megatron and I are on board for this. Transformers: Animated Ended wayyyyyy too soon. With only three seasons to the cartoon it will run us 15 episodes of TAP. This also includes TFA Toys discussions as well. Transformation: Animation Podcast will begin Summer 2011.
ToonCast Beyond (TCB): 65 Years In The Future….. ToonCast lives on. Most of you thought that after Episode 100 ToonCast would be done. Technically that is true. ToonCast is meant to be The Cartoons We Grew Up With. ToonCast Beyond will focus on cartoons from 2000-Whenever NOW is. Toon Beyond will be split into Seasons….. Say it takes us 5 months to get through Season 1 after that we will take a 2 month break and come back with Season 2 etc. WE ARE STILL NOT GOING TO FOCUS ON ANIME!!!! While we respect anime it is not our speciality. If you want anime head to Earth-2.net for Animezing Podcast With Kellen Scrivens & Friends http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/animezingpodcast/animezingpodcast ToonCast Beyond has no set in stone schedule as far as an end to the podcast. It’s kinda like MWIRE… It will go until we run outta cartoons to talk about. Right now we have about 145 episodes planned. We will also include episodes we are deeming “Delorean Time” Where we can go back in time and cover any cartoons we missed in ToonCast Proper. This show will launch Fall/Winter 2011
Transformers: Prime Time: Launching sometime in 2012 or later. This show will focus on the new series Transformers: Prime… It’s the Prime Time Of Your Life.
Well there you have it folks that’s everything that will be coming up in the next year and beyond for us here at The Geek Cast Radio Network. There will also be more episodes for the flagship show. So as 2010 closes and 2011 looms upon us we encourage you to keep up with The GCRN and UNLEASH THE GEEK IN YOU!!!!!!!
