About this Episode
Do you start your day? Deciding which video game
you're gonna play. You fight with your family.
Go for which is better, Marvel or DC. The geek
of all you be friends, cause you know what Batman
beats Superman. This is the right place to be,
so turn up the volume cause you're an altered
geek. Hello and welcome to Altered Geek, I'm
your host Steve Megatron Phillips and in this
episode I'm flying solo for the Friday episode.
So what is new with you guys this week I I've
been enjoying some of the TV that's come back.
I've been enjoying Some of Star Trek discovery
even though it's very predictable which That's
neither here nor there Star Trek online hit its
eight year anniversary mark, so I'm having fun
with some of the stuff on that figured out another
way of making credits in the game this time and
that's by selling Star Trek Discovery lock boxes
because yeah, I made back a lot of my wealth
in the game by selling lock boxes because I lost
a lot of it when I bought a bunch of keys and
then four months ago they all went belly up on
price. Uh, so like everything I, I'd spent the
game on the, the EC, the, the, um, the keys were
worthless, uh, after that point because they
started sailing everything. Everything was on
sale. And then, yeah, so I figured out another
way of, of re, re, uh, acclimating my account
to that. Um, also figured out the Kelvin enterprise,
still the most like hardcore ship that I've,
I've had. doesn't get blown up, it comes close,
but it's, yeah. So additionally, I've been thinking
about something lately, and it's been kind of
weighing on my mind. Would people be interested
in if I wrote a book? And I know I'd mentioned
something about a superhero one a few years back,
I think two years ago. because I was writing
that pop culture superhero thing for class and
I Wrote that storyline. I still have the script.
I just I've never gotten back around to writing
anything else to it And it's kind of like I mentioned
before like if it's something I just don't do
then it probably will never happen I May eventually
go back to it, but I really don't know at this
point that being said I've been toying around
with the concept of writing another type of book
and this one would be kind of an educational
informative type and I'm not exactly sure how
much information or how many pages it would be
but I'm thinking about writing a book on podcasting
and the various things I've learned over the
years and the various basically the helpful parts
and kind of mentioning briefly the stuff that
I did that was a failure, and kind of going from
there. I'm thinking about writing this up and
selling it, and I'm just curious of who would
actually be interested in reading this if I were
to put this together on podcasting or whatnot.
So, if that sounds like something you'd be interested
in, just let me know. I'm probably going to write
it. It's probably not going to be out for a long,
like, until later this year, if I do even do
this, because it's something I'm going to have
to take a lot of time to do. But it's been something
that's been kind of weighing on my mind, and
I've been kind of wanting to do, like, some kind
of a teaching thing on the podcast, and I'm not
entirely sure on what yet. And I might do that
for like the YouTube part because like I've been
trying to figure out how to incorporate video
back into the show and I've tried a few things
and it's not really panned out for me. I've not
really enjoyed doing it Because there's a lot
more involved with editing Video as opposed to
audio plus all the different places. I have to
post things. It's just it's not worth my time
So I'm trying to figure out another way of doing
that and so that's something that's been weighing
on my mind as well. So what do you guys think
on that? That's something that I've been really
thinking about. Anyways, myself and Mike Powers
have one of our extra episodes from last week
that we recorded coming out this Tuesday about...
Well, it's it's about customer service and the
What could garner a good or bad customer service
opinion Additionally the week after that we're
going to have the Nintendo label and peripherals
conversation followed by The Geeks but hurt over
first look over reactions And the following week
geeky gear customize it or buy it So why am I
telling you all this? Well, there's four weeks
of Tuesday content already pre -recorded. It's
not time sensitive either so Should be kind of
interesting to hear that and then of course I
will have always the up -to -date Friday show
of some of the geeky news and conversations.
So, without further ado, I'm going to take a
quick break and come back on the other side with
some news. And we're back. So, getting into a
little bit of animation content, Star Wars Rebels
dropped its teaser trailer of the iconic return
to the end of the season and they show Among
other things, they show Kanan getting a new hairdo
and the return of an iconic villain in Emperor
Palpatine, voiced by Ian McDermott, which is
kind of cool that they got the original actor
to come back and portray the Emperor here. I'm
quite psyched. I'm sad that the series is going
to be ending, but I'm really loving what's going
to happen. As far as the show, it's never shied
away from evolution. It's only going to help
strengthen the Star Wars canon, as it were. Some
other things I kind of noticed, it's kind of
weird. We've been seeing a lot of reboots. or
revivals I should say coming between Roseanne's
revival to Murphy Brown is coming back Charmed
is coming back to the CW Murphy Brown to the
CBS and Roseanne I believe is on ABC so yeah
we've got our our fix of Revival is coming now
the 90s are back people in the 80s and so if
that's up your alley then Yeah, that's that's
definitely gonna be good news for you I'm kind
of excited for some of it and then some of it
not so much like Some shows I feel like they
they kind of go on a little too long Kind of
like this podcast at points But yeah, I mean,
it's not terrible. There's also news of Wally
West appearing on Legends of Tomorrow as a series
regular, which I kind of figured was going to
happen at some point, and I kind of wished that
it was going to happen, and now that it is happening,
I'm again right. Don't know I think that that's
that's good. I think that that's a nice place
for him since The flash is pretty dominated although
they could use his help right now in Central
City With Barry behind bars, but that won't last
another couple episodes anyway, so And then John
Wesley ship is going to be coming back as Jay
Garrick Again, and they've been alluding to this
girl that showed up during the midseason wedding
And her persona just screams that she's like
the daughter of of Barry and Iris Just in the
sense that she's super talkative. She's writing
stuff down. She's like talking about the nostalgia
and You know Just the way she's interacting with
everybody and kind of knows who they are, but
they don't really know her and It's it's it's
interesting. I think that it's it's gotta be
the daughter and I think she's got flash powers
and came back in time And I think that's why
I Think you're gonna see that kind of come out
in this At least by the end of the season like
the midseason finale or something and then we
got to see Ralph Digby, Dibney, Dibney, Dibney.
That is so hard to say right now. Ralph Dibney,
the elongated man, get a new suit, which was
kind of cool to see, and then you get to see
Trickster's... I thought that they were going
to try and play the game that Mark Hamill's Trickster
was dead or something, but they instead left
it open and had the sidekick of... the trickster
from the 90s show from the 90s flash uh playing
the mother of the new trickster which was i thought
was kind of an inventive way of bringing them
in and and i love how they kind of play kind
of coy with some of the original flash show and
and kind of bring that in here i think it works
really well um but uh yeah it's it's kind of
fun watching this uh and then What can I say,
Black Lightning by far. It touches on that social
issue that is pretty common in today's age, but
it's so, I don't know, it's so well written that
I'm really enjoying it. And then I like the fact
that he's like an older hero and having to deal
With The fact that he's older and he's having
to protect his daughters from these these gangs
and all these All these different kinds of issues
With society with people in general, it's it's
just it's really hard -hitting but the the aesthetics
on it the graphics the The show is pretty solid
which I was kind of surprised just because I
wasn't entirely sure what to think going into
it and now I have to say that it's it's actually
really well done so if you haven't watched that
yet you gotta check it out and then we got super
troopers 2's trailer which dropped and I'm quite
excited for this and Well, I'm gonna play a clip,
so... Un, deux, trois, let's do it! They've been
waiting for a second chance. Waiting for their
country to need them again. That time is... Meow.
What do you guys give me if I kill that bird?
Farber, that's a bald eagle! Get away, Baldi!
Guys, what do I win? A one -way ticket to hell.
It turns out the French -Canadian town, Saint
-Georges -du -Laurent, is actually on American
soil. You'll be phasing out a Canadian mountain
unit. Best behavior, boys. Not our idea of a
good time either, fellas. Personally, I'd rather
fuck a moose. You wouldn't need a ladder to do
that. Wow. Let's give a big Canadian welcome
to the Vermont Highway Patrol. Come on, guys.
They've come up here to tell us how great it's
gonna be for all of us to become Americans. The
PRC! A pledge of allegiance to the United States
of America! This is happening. Do neither of
you speak English? I do. We would like to...
Eat your paper. Can you show me your party papers?
This time everything will be by the book everything
What can I get for you guys whole beer liter
of cola, what did you say do you want a liter
of cola? Canada's pretty awesome Don't do that
And we're back. So yeah, I'm super stoked about
this film. Uh, just, it looks like a lot of fun.
Uh, and then, of course, Bill and Ted 3, they
finally reveal the title, uh, along with some
story news, and they have, uh, basically, they,
they, they have news that they, you know, Keanu
Reeves and Alex Winder want to do it. They, they
have, uh, Dean Parasite, uh, Galaxy Quest, attached
to direct the film. However, you know, they wanted
to be Bill and Ted face the music and the story
will feature the older, you know, middle -aged
characters traveling back in time to interact
with their past selves in George Carlin's character
Rufus by using footage from the 89 Bill and Ted's
Excellent Adventure. and they want to return
to the scene at the Circle K when Bill and Ted
first meet themselves, only now they're watching
their younger selves and looking at the exuberance
and joy that they had at that time in their lives
and they see Rufus, you know, and George Carlin.
Which sounds awesome, but it still hasn't received
a green light yet. And what's holding it back?
Well, the studio doesn't want a sequel with the
old Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, they want a
reboot. Which, I'm like... It'll just bomb anyway,
so like that's not do that and let's just bring
back the other guys and do a sequel If we're
gonna do it at all like it kind of should be
considering they did the two films and I think
this would be kind of a Nice way to make it in
a trilogy package and just kind of leave it alone
like the old -school way of doing a trilogy and
just leave it after that like no reboot no no
fourth sequel just Three, you know three and
done Kind of like, you know, the Olympus Has
Fallen franchise, which Gerard Butler's been
attached to, you know, the Olympus Has Fallen,
which was a lot of fun, basically like Die Hard
in the White House. And then they had London
Has Fallen, which I have yet to see. And then
they're going to do Angel Has Fallen, which takes
place on like Air Force One. And they've kind
of equated it that this is like the Logan, more
like, you know, Angel Has Fallen is gonna be
more like the fugitive, it's like their version
of Logan, what it was for Wolverine, so they're
gonna end it that way, which I think is kind
of telling that they're basically gonna kill
him in the thing, which should be still funny
in the least, but you know, we'll see what happens,
we'll see. So... And then getting into Marvel,
we have the Captain Marvel Brie Larson donning
her new costume, which Mike and I talk about
in an episode in a few weeks that'll be released.
But among other things, like it's not gonna just
be Captain Marvel, so it's not really time sensitive.
So fans are just losing it over the fact that
her suit is like that teal aqua -looking color
with the... black and silver instead of the gold
red and dark blue which is the same suit they're
just saying that it's Marvel's Marvel's suit
before she gets it and then will become you know
her other suit by the end of the movie it's an
origin movie like what do you expect it's it's
it's gonna be done that way So people are just
losing their crap over it. I don't even understand
why. And then fans have even edited the suit
to look like the concept colors from the concept
photos that were shot all over the place. I don't
know. And then as far as Star Wars Episode VIII
was concerned, Rian Johnson hopes that... Luke
will return in episode 9, but he decided that
the last Jedi fate for Luke was very early on
and kind of answers the question about the blue
lightsaber at the end and it was more so Luke
purposely made himself aged younger and used
his father's lightsaber to more or less provoke
Kylo as like kind of a You know, this is what
he remembered me as when he used the green lightsaber,
and hey, and this is my dad's original lightsaber,
like, just kind of, like, screwing with him.
And then there were other clues that, you know,
Luke wasn't really there, like, besides those
two aspects and the fact that the saber was broken,
but the fact that when he was walking on the
ground under the salt had prints when he walked
around, which I thought was kind of funny that
nobody really noticed that during the thing.
But it's still cool and they're gonna of course
have John Williams score episode 9 so it's all
relative at this point. And then we may have
a new Arkham game coming. DC seems to be... For
Arkham Origins, developer confirms new DC game
in the works. So we could see a possibility of
a new Batman game or a DC game to some extent.
Personally, I would love to see The Flash as
a game, being how big he is on TV. So, never
know. I mean, it's kind of cool. And then there's
the rumor that Henry Cavill may be in Shazam.
which I could care less about. Until we actually
see something, it's not really worth talking
about. And then Dwayne The Rock Johnson will
be in Black Adam, but that's still a ways away,
which is surprising because he was one of the
first ones cast in the DCEU, and yet we still
have yet to see a film. I don't know. It's crazy.
Shazam director, I guess, though, has been teasing
Superman in several posts, so we could see him
in the film now that he's back. And then Gotham's
coming back March 1st, I believe, and they're
gonna have basically revealing that Jerome is
not actually the Joker, but they're saying that
reveal that Jerome isn't actually the Joker.
The real Joker would be introduced in a brilliant,
in a brilliant way. So we'll see what happens.
And then in another piece of kind of interesting
news that I was kind of wondering, apparently
this week in tech, Twit, Leo Laporte, is suing
Twitter. And I haven't heard anything new on
this since the 16th when this information came
out, but apparently he was suing Twitter for
breach of contract and trademark infringement.
It's kind of interesting in that it started around
the same time that Twit came out, so Twit and
Twitter at some point agreed formally that despite
names and similarities, that they could coexist
being that Twitter... um was kind of a instant
messenger slash social media and twit was you
know audio video uh but now that twitter is doing
you know premium video content initiative and
uh more audio and more stuff like that it's shaken
up the once happy coexistence so uh twit's attorneys
have ordered twitter to stop its expansions into
the audio visual uh field so yeah Twit apparently
has been forced to sue for trademark infringement
We'll see what happens on that Twitter's got
a lot more money than this we can tax so it's
gonna be kind of hard for them to really Prove
anything or do anything So they're saying that
Evan Williams the co -founder though is aware
of the conflict between Twitter and twit And
and acknowledge the confusion which would likely
arise from the use of Twitter in the marketplace,
as well as instance of actual confusion, which
is already set in. But honestly, if you've even
heard of Twitter, or still think it's around,
you would know about it. If you haven't already
heard about it in today's age, you're probably
not gonna hear about it. And besides the fact
Twitter... This is social media. So everybody
uses it like twit. It's it's kind of a it's an
audio video platform Like they're just it's kind
of apples and oranges there. I Think that they're
just grasping at it But they want Twitter to
stop distribution of audio and video content
which And trying to sue them for any kind of
profits they may make So, we'll see how that
goes. I don't think that's going to go too well
for either party at this point. So, I'm going
to take a quick break, come back on the other
side with just a little bit of opinion stuff,
and then call it a night. And we're back, so...
The last bit of feedback we had was from the
finding fatigue in toys, but what's causing it?
Brad says, Personally, I don't have toy fatigue.
There seems to be more out there for collectors
or kids. The biggest hit is to parents' wallets.
My biggest issue today as a collector and as
a parent is toy quality is decreasing in favor
of cheaper plastics or design build quality.
Figure prices continue to rise, but their quality
goes down and I'm just over it. No, I totally
agree. Kids toys are just getting worse and worse
as far as the quality now if you're doing the
collector thing like the masterpiece line or
something like that then They typically put better
stuff in it, and they just look better, but the
price is like Way up in the sky Which a lot of
the toys are just basically getting priced out
of normal people's Price range like I don't honestly
buy that many toys for my kid anymore We actually
show the yard sales in the summer and they're
allowed to pretty much pick out whatever as long
as it's cheap and My kids don't play with stuff
long enough for it to matter They don't play
with anything. It's like franchise related or
anything like that So I mean it's it just makes
it easier and personally they just don't care
Like I've got them on Legos, which is perfect
because they can build anything out of them And
there's like a multitude of them so it doesn't
really matter However, like we don't really do
action figures. We don't really do transformers.
We don't really do any of that stuff, which Is
kind of beneficial because then he's not running
around doing any of it Like I don't even have
any of my stuff out. I haven't had it out over
a year I've kind of gotten away from a lot of
collecting anything and I'm actually getting
to the point now that I'm probably gonna go back
into my storage units in the next week and tear
out a bunch of my Collectibles and it just outright
sell them all so if anybody's interested in that
I've got some various transformer stuff. I've
got a lot of comics some of some trade paperbacks
I've got some movie posters Mostly like I've
got the Batman returns. I think that poster Star
Trek into darkness poster GI Joe The second film
I think Rise of Cobra or something else, that
poster. And then I've got some Transformers animated
books. I've got some Batman figures. So I'm going
to be selling a lot of stuff. So if anybody wants
it, I'll sell it cheaper than eBay and then you
just pay shipping too. And then I'm just trying
to get rid of it. If not, I'm gonna go take it
to a pawn shop in the next like two weeks just
swing off everything all at once Because I I
honestly one I'm not gonna play with it anymore
two I'm not gonna have it on a shelf or on display
and three like I'd rather have the money because
I've got other stuff I'd rather get right now
like upgrading parts of my computer, you know
Star Trek Uniform, you know, just whatever so
But yeah, I mean I don't really have fatigue
in toys I just with the prices going up they're
just not worth what they used to be like you
can buy those star wars figures for like six
bucks back in the day they're like nine hours
or eight or nine i mean it's not even for the
price of one figure you could have got two back
when we were kids and so i i just don't see the
merit in in paying for it it's like comic books
they've tripled in price too since i was a kid
i remember getting them for like a dollar 95
you know 225 and And then, you know, like $2
.75 at some point and then they all went to like
$2 .99, $3 .99, $4 .99, $5 .99. I'm like, nope,
done, screw it. You know, I mean, it's, there
just comes a point where it's just too expensive
to keep collecting anything. I've gotten to the
point too that most of my collecting, I just
save a picture of it. And honestly, like I hardly
go back to it unless I need it for a podcast
art. And then I go back to it, but other than
that, like, I guess I'm kind of like a digital
pack rat in that sense, like I save it on the
computer, like the picture of whatever it is
that I want, and then I just, it fulfills a need,
I don't need to buy it, and then it eventually
gets deleted because I'm like, eh, what do I
have that for? So, just kind of weird stuff.
Anyways. So if there's any topics you guys want
to hear about or anything specifically on the
Friday show, you know, listener feedback of any
kind or suggestions for content here or on the
weekly topical shows that are 20 minutes long
with myself and Booth Ninja, this episode I'm
not going to drag it on any further because there's
really no need for it. There's not a lot of news.
A lot of my Star Trek stuff's covered in Future
Imperfect, you know, like why? Star Trek fans
are still butthurt over the series and all the
times that Star Trek broke canon, which is quite
humorous because people are now starting to actually
keep track of how often Star Trek's betrayed
its own franchise and broken canon. And then
how hollow the series has been in of itself because
it... It's choices and what it does is very very
obvious So I don't know just let me know what
you guys think anyways until next time get altered
get geeky with the awesome
No chapter markers for this episode.
