About this Episode
Cliffjumper, commence countdown! Five, four,
three... Wow, that's crazy. Oh, whatever you
just said there. That's crazy. Oh It's loose
it's a piece of shit I squeeze and I squeeze
and it just ain't coming out Hello and welcome
to the 80th episode of toy cast I'm your host
you join Mike and I'm joined once again by a
peak on court Michael hello, sir I Love doing
that to people I Just I love doing that to people
because it gets a really really great weird off
-the -wall out of context intro I'm not sure
how far back that way Oh, it didn't go back to
the first time you said it, but yeah, no. No,
not at all. The thing about it is the best random
intros are the ones that have no freaking context.
I find those just confusing. No, but it's supposed
to be a random clip. You know, Rattrap's saying,
oh, for the love of Gouda or whatever, you know.
Which he does entirely too much in Beast Machines.
All the friggin' cheese references piss me off.
Well, he is a rat. I know, but... Anyway. So
how are you, sir? You haven't been on the show
for about 10 episodes, actually. The last time
you were on the show was episode 70. Yeah, I
used to be on all the time. And then I got fat
and lazy. I ain't got lazy. You got lazy. Wow.
that's what I said, I got lazy. I didn't say
you, I mean, you've been doing this for 80 episodes,
you can't be that lazy. 80 plus episodes if you
count all the .5s and the, god, I don't even,
the .5s, all the special discussions and all
that crap, so it's more than that, but I kinda
have to be here, I'm the host, so. It's like,
you can't have a show without the one that is
supposed to be recording it, so. It's like we're
going to steal your podcast and you can't do
anything about it That guy yeah, he's lazy as
hell That's right. He always says read my blog
post damn it, and then he doesn't blog post anything
oh man this has been one just busy ass week i
recorded i've been recording since last sunday
afternoon i recorded sunday afternoon with this
week in geeks nerd news and then sunday night
with an episode of tune cast um monday night
with Steve and Kevin, we did a Geekcast Radio
episode about the hub. Did anybody mention the
fact that you gotta pay extra to get it? Well,
it's one of those things where I've said, because
I just have basic, what they call here at the
cable company here, it's basic classic, which
is channels 2 through 99. I've said if it's not
on those channels. I'm not going broke just to
have digital cable just to have the hub I'm not
you know and the main thing that I tied into
is that I have Generation 1 DVDs I have B stores
DVDs I get that it's great that the hub has all
this other like The 1966 Batman show hasn't been
on TV since the 80s as far as I know You know,
so I think it's great for that, but I mean, just
for Transformers Prime, no, I'm not spending
over $100 for cable services a month. Right,
and here we get 200 channels for basic cable,
which has, you know, our Syfy channel and our
Disney channel, and that's, you know, TLC, that
type of thing that we want to watch, but the
hub is on the 250. And yeah, and it's like, you
know, is it worth it to me to spend another additional
$20 a month? You know when to be honest, I could
probably download it for free off the internet
15 minutes after it airs, you know, I'm not I'm
not sure if that's really worth it. I would like
to see Oh Adam West Batman, you know, that would
be awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing you know Episode
or two of strawberry shortcake or palm puppies
for nostalgia purposes Yeah, but the problem
is not the same shows Go back and listen, I don't
think you I don't know if you're subscribed in
iTunes to the geek cast radio flagship show Go
back, subscribe, or listen to it online on our
website. In episode 18, when we covered The Hub,
The Pound Puppies Show, and Strawberry Shortcake
Show, and My Little Pony Show, they're all brand
new incarnations. And they all suck. Well, do
they really suck? I'm just going off of what
Kevin told us. You know, Kevin is no longer a
12 year old girl, so I'm not sure if it's...
The same audience well true, but I mean he is
an 80s buff and these shows did come from the
80s So I mean it's one of those things where
you know it's not quite But anyway, um what kills
me though is that it's not gonna be competing
with You know discovery kids or the Disney Channel
or The Cartoon Network on on an even keel Mainly
because, you know, they're in that 250 channel
bracket or whichever one. I think most people
have to pay more to see it. So I don't think
they're going to get quite the audience that
a cartoon network would get, even though they
have all this new material and new content. And
most likely it's probably a lot of good stuff.
Well, it can't really compete with Discovery
Kids since it became what Discovery Kids was.
Yeah, exactly. little babies and stuff. You still
have children's network programming. Just because
Discovery Kids is no longer there and it's the
hub doesn't mean that you don't have other children's
programming elsewhere. Plus, the hub is still
maintaining a majority of the Discovery Kids
previous series. I mean, the only one that comes
to my mind is Trading Spaces, Boys vs. Girls.
but i mean it's the only one that i can think
of just off the top of my head so you know it's
not like they're destroying children's educational
programming on television you know you ruined
it forever but uh... yeah uh... where else were
you what else were you talking about uh... i
don't remember he got off topic somewhere along
the way but uh... yeah i just wanted to rant
a little bit on the hub I'm not going to pay
extra money for it. Yeah, exactly. And like I
said, I'm most likely to be able to get the new
Transformers and the new GI Joe off the internet
without too much issue. So I'm not really interested
in doing that. Now, if it were free for me, if
it were sitting alongside Disney Channel or PBS
Kids, Yeah, we'd be watching it all the time.
Yeah, which is something I don't understand.
I mean, I get that because, you know, if you
look at a lot of these networks like Discovery,
what's another network that has like branches
and branches of channels? Lifetime just comes
to mind. A &E has A &E, Bravo, and whatever other
network that A &E is. I mean these television
companies that have multiple channels like a
network, it's a network of television channels,
I don't understand why that those channels can't
be in just, you know, whatever the, you know,
especially a kids programming channel. Why isn't
it in the basic classic or just, you know, the
generic, you know, two to ninety -nine package
that makes no sense because you're gonna put
it up against You know, all of the other premium...
I guess it's premium versus premium, which sucks.
But, whatever. Not entirely sure of the intricacies
of television programming. Yeah, I don't know.
All I know is that I'm not feeling it for the
Hub right now because, you know, they've already
started at a disadvantage. Yup. Yup, yup. Let's
see. Oh, I know where we got off track. I was
going through my week of scheduling here. And
then Tuesday night I recorded episode 76 of Tooncast.
Didn't do anything. Did I do anything? No. And
then Thursday, obviously, we had Beast Unleashed
and now we're doing this and I've got like three
records Saturday, four records Sunday. I need
to be getting paid for this, dammit. Well, you
know, I'm not sure if it's ignorance or apathy,
but I don't know and I don't care. Shut up. Oh
crap. So we have some toy news here I guess we
can kind of cover. They showed apparently S250
who has never had an incorrect rumor. um... his
little rumor of uh... a green car being generations
cup apparently that was true and we have a bunch
of images of new generation stuff yeah from what
i've heard uh... somebody at a chinese factory
just decided to post pictures of all of the uh...
transformers united And the United line is what
the Japanese are calling their generations line.
So we're calling them generations, they're calling
them United. And all the stuff that's coming
out in the next, I don't know, six to nine months
has now been leaked. Yup. So, you know, their
loss is our gain. Someone ought to get fired
over this, to be honest. You know, I mean I know
how they try to keep this stuff secret especially
cup I mean like there's stuff that they showed
us at BotCon. They showed us tracks and wreck
are and Lug nut we saw pictures of lug nut and
jazz Perceptor, you know, but they didn't show
us cup. I mean nobody had any idea that was coming
And I think the G2 Optimus Prime, Laser Optimus
Prime, they didn't show any pictures of that,
so that's like the big news now too. Yeah. So
let's talk about Cup for a moment here. I really
like the way that they're going to do this guy
because his alt mode, if you look at the picture,
I don't think I've ever seen a transformer pickup
truck. You have well, I mean look at I Want to
say most recently there was top kick he was a
purple decepticon for The revenge of the following
line. Oh and then after that he they repainted
him and I forget what they named him. So I mean
there's at least two pick -up trucks. The third
pick -up truck is Alternators Optimus Prime,
who almost didn't get made in Japan because the
Japanese don't drive pick -up trucks. Okay, so
there are, but I guess what I mean to say is
more, I don't think outside of like the old G1
Cup, which wasn't, I don't think really was an
actual pick -up truck, we've never really seen
Cup in a pick -up truck form. No, that 1986 line,
none of those looked very much like real -world
vehicles. Yeah, and this looks really awesome.
I mean, in my opinion, that's kind of where Transformers
kind of started going downhill, is when they
dropped die -cast metal and real -world alt modes.
Yeah. Yeah. But, you know, but this, yeah, getting
back to Generations Cup, the truck mode does
look cool. I mean, it looks like a newer truck.
Yeah. It's kind of like a short bed, though.
It's almost like... I'm not entirely sure what
kind of car it would be but it's like half of
a car and then they slapped on you know kind
of a tiny half bed on the back yeah so it's different
but you know he's got that that swept back hood
that the original cup had and he's roughly the
same color yeah he is he's kind of got that like
grayish teal going on It's nice. I mean it is
a nod to the original. Oh, yeah He's got roughly.
I don't want to say roughly the same head The
head is more stylized toward his comic book appearances.
Yeah And but the only thing that really bothers
me about him is He's got these big wheels hanging
off his shoulders. Yeah, that does kind of look
kind of frumpy It's a little distracting. I mean,
I think I'd like it better if they fold it back
behind him. So you couldn't see him Mean, you
know, I kind of can see from the way he transforms
that there's not a whole lot they could do about
that. Yeah But you know, and then he's got great
big legs. Yeah But yeah, the original cup had
little scrawny little legs Let me see if I can
find them in my Looking in my cabinet here see
if I can find him Describe him a little bit,
but all right offhand. I don't see him. I think
he's standing behind defense or ah Which as you
can imagine will make him very hard to open.
Oh, there he is. Okay. Yeah, so the original
one Yeah, his head does look like that. That's
funky I'll have to post pictures of him somewhere,
but he's got a little scrawny little arms and
like these stick like yeah Yeah, so I mean here
this cup. He's a You know, I like the truck And
I like the fact that they were kind of shooting
for a cup -esque head. But the robot mode is
not quite cup. I think he looks good in both
modes. I don't really have any complaints with
either one. I need to see a more close -up picture
of the actual face to actually make a better
opinion of the head. Which is strange that they
didn't put one in here because they have, amongst
these other images, they have one of Perceptor
up close. And you can clearly see his head, but
they don't have one for Cup, which is kind of
strange, but whatever. Well, the question I have
is, you know that they're starting to come out
with molds that have two heads. They're actually
including a second head in the mold. Once they
originally do the the figure they can go with
one head and then when they do the eventual repaint
they can go with a different head and You know,
they're gonna you know, they're gonna do that
with perceptor. Oh, yeah, and they're gonna they're
gonna read repaint him as reflector. Oh No Yeah,
he's gonna be reflector tracks is gonna get repainted
and I forget who is getting repainted as he's
got a different head. I've already seen pictures
of him. Oh, no, no, no, no. Um, um, we were just
talking about him to, uh, Swarp? Wheeljack. Oh,
Wheeljack. Yeah. Wheeljack is a retooled version
of Traxx. Yeah. Yeah. So, so Traxx is getting
repainted. Um, who else here? You know, I it
would be a complete layup to redo jazz as a ricochet
Oh, yeah, which they'll probably end up doing.
I know straxas has a new head and he's gonna
get It was a skull. Yeah skull grain. Okay. Yeah.
Yeah, so the question becomes Who are they gonna
repaint cup as the question also becomes who
the hell are they gonna repaint retgar as? Retgar
is not gonna get Well, I'm not sure if it's he's
not gonna get a repaint. He's got a different
head they have the goatee version and then they
have the I'm not sure if it's the mustache version
or the non goatee version, but they've got at
least two different heads. I'm not sure if those
are gonna be You know repainted or just the same
paint or what but I know they have two separate
heads It's it's still gonna be right here. It's
just gonna be a different record. Yeah I love
jazz. Jazz is awesome. The reason why I love
this jazz is because he has speakers. Yeah, the
speakers are cool. I've seen, I forget if it's
a sticker or just a little piece of plastic upgrade
kit or something, but I've seen speakers for
G1 jazz. Where you can actually put the little
speakers in the back and they kind of rest You
know in his hatchback or in robot mode it'll
be kind of in his legs But you know, I think
it is stickers. I think it's on Repro labels
now that I think about it But it looks like there's
little speakers in the back Kind of a neat thing.
Yeah, but but now hey actual speakers that pop
up. Yeah, that's awesome Which makes me wonder
if maybe they'll replace that with missiles or
something for ricochet could be The perceptor
thing I'm glad he's not a microscope, but I don't
know if I really like the whole truck tank all
thing Well, you know where they got that or at
least where I think they got that what is transformers
animated Transformers animated perceptor Transformed
into a trial. Oh, that's right. Okay, and I believe
the pictures of him were in the all -spark almanac
See, I haven't got the second volume yet. I need
to get on that Well, I said maybe they weren't
no I thought that I thought it was but the The
truck that he turned into had tried okay. Well
That's fine. Um lug nut it's just another repaint
a lug nut No, it's a new look It looks good Yeah,
I think he's not quite bulky enough no, he's
not not at all Yeah, I don't think he's quite
Big enough cuz you think you know when I think
of him. I almost think of lug nut It's like Hulk
-like proportions, you know, where he's got this
huge upper body, these huge arms, and these little
tiny legs. You know, whereas this new lug nut
has this huge upper body, little scrawny little
arms, you know, that look like, you know, they
kind of, it's kind of turned his scrawny little
wings into, or I should say his long skinny wings
turned into arms. And I'm just not... as happy
with that, as much as I would be if he had these,
you know, huge British arms. Yeah. Well, it's
no secret that I've never really been a fan of
Luck Nuts, so... Well, I've always liked Luck
Nuts, but, you know... It should've been Astro
Train. Astro... What's with Astro Train? We're
always together. It should've been Astro Train.
Okay, fine. I'll buy that astro train would rule.
That's right But you know, there's an awful lot
of fans that need appeasing like there's an awful
lot of hurt feelings after the end of Transformers
animated and this is just one of the one of those
nods, you know, we get we get a lug nut we get
a lockdown we get Yeah, well those two at least
There was another one I hadn't in mind and I
forget who it was. I really like the lockdown
figure. That turned out, I mean, it looks like
a real world version of lockdown. This one just
looks like a real world version of Lugnut and
they can easily repaint him as Atomic Lugnut.
Yeah, they could. I guess moving on here to Wheeljack
which as you said is well he looks like he's
a basic repaint of tracks, but I don't know because
His car mode looks like it's retooled a little
bit because I don't remember the pictures of
tracks having that like front Yeah, he's got
like a new hood spoiler or front, I don't know,
front frame. Yeah, there you go, fender. Yeah,
there you go. That worked. Is the fender on the
sides? That might be... He's got something new.
But the thing about the picture series, they
don't show him using his missiles. You're not...
Because Trax has missiles. Well, it looks like
the missile is on the bottom, like right under
the door. in the car mode. Right, but I'm talking
about the wheel jack picture, the gray resin
picture. The missile on wheel jacket looks like
in the car mode that it's under the door. Yeah,
I see what you're talking about. You know what's
weird? If you look at the picture of Wheeljack,
you can see he's got like the sticks in his hands,
and they kind of look like he's holding wrenches,
but those little semi -circles on the ends, those
are actually clips. The new Transformers they're
coming out with, their weapons clip on to bars.
so you'll like uh where's the one i just opened
he's uh i put him away already um it's revenge
of the fallen breacher oh yeah i saw i saw a
video review with him yeah i don't like breacher
he's hard he's hard breacher sucks way too hard
to transform for such a little guy but the whole
top turret is his gun and it clips onto a bar
yeah there's like a little plastic bar there
and this clip You know snaps on it so it's made
so you can pull it on and off, you know But and
it's also made so that you can transfer it to
other transformers who have that bar You know,
so they're made standard almost like, you know
standardized gun Handle pegs, right? So You know
You know iron hide has them breacher has them.
I know the the new straxas or dark mount, you
know toy has them And it looks like now this
guy's got him too. Yeah I'm not sure how long
this gimmick is gonna last but I can't wait to
see actual color pictures of this guy because
he looks awesome as a gray resin, but I want
I want to see better be You better be green and
red Don't you mean white green red? Well, yeah,
yeah You know cuz it's like they had a Don't
know if I want to go into this right now, but
they actually had a a Figure I want to say in
their model line who had a wheel jack head But
they named him down shift instead and he was
painted like wheel jack He had a head like we'll
do and and his name was down shift It's been
a long time coming that we actually get a wheel
jack with the right head the right colors. Yeah
Armada had a wheel jack character and it's like
why didn't they name the guy who looks like Wheeljack
Wheeljack yeah that's kind of a slap in the face
so generations laser optimus prime or whatever
they're calling I don't even know what the hell
they're calling him I guess I don't know G2 prime
G2 actually had like three primes yeah So, what
do you think of this one? Four, if you count
the go -bots. Go -bots are evil, go -bots are
ugly, they need to die. Go -bots was a subline
in G2 though, so technically four. You know,
I really like Laser Optimus Prime. Really, really
like him. And when they reissued him, just recently,
Ice I passed on because you know, I already own
one, right? But but I know that in Japan they
repainted laser optimus prime the reissue as
ultra Magnus So, you know, I probably will be
buying This the g2 optimus prime remake But I'll
probably buy two of them when they eventually
repaint him as ultra Magnus And then, you know,
they're going to repaint him again in black and
teal because the first black optimists that was,
or I should say the first, you know, black and
teal optimists that was ever released was skirt
from the RID. And now they do it with every one
of them. So it's like, you know, they're going
to do it. I'm going to buy that one. And when
they, when they repaint him in white and blue,
I'm going to buy that one too. The only problem
I have with them right now is just the color
scheme that we've seen so far It doesn't really
look like it's finished because you know the
hood is all black It's got black and white panels
on it when I think it really should just be a
straight blue Yeah, could be but I'm gonna buy
it anyway I'm assuming I don't You know completely
jump the tracks and quit collecting transformers
altogether. I'll most likely buy one And what
about Scourge? I like Scourge. I know some people
are upset because he's not a giant surfboard.
But I like him specifically because he's not
a giant surfboard. I don't like that. Again,
when you look at the 86 toys, they didn't have
real world counterparts. And Scourge is just...
a glaring, glaring example of that. But here,
I mean, at least he's got like a flying wing,
kind of a stealth bomber look to him, right?
And if you look close, I'm not sure if this is
just the picture or what, but it kind of almost
looks like he has one wing that's kind of bumpy
and mutated. And I want to say that's an homage
to the episode where he gets a hold of the Matrix
and tries to stuff it into himself. That would
be a burden hardest to bear. Hmm, I don't remember
the exact name, but yeah, I mean I like the face
sculpt I like the fact that you know in in vehicle
mode he can actually pop his head up like he
did in the cartoons Hmm interesting Yeah, it's
neat. I mean you know I think they did a really
good Yeah, it's nice homage to the original.
I mean at least this one looks like G1 Scourge
in robot mode It's like if you look at cup, it's
like yeah, his head kind of looks like that and
he's the right color And he does transform into
a pickup truck. So I guess that's copper but
this one, you know He the the robot mode Looks
very similar. His arms are a little barrel -ish,
you know, I can understand that yeah Other than
that, you know in the giant shoulders, but he
looks a lot like g1 scourge I mean even the vehicle
mode. I mean if you if you say well You can't
possibly be a surfboard because that would be
lame or a big flying bathtub because that would
be even lamer But you know he can be you know
an elongated stealth bomber I Will forgive them
that I did Yes It makes you wonder what they're
gonna repaint him as yeah, really You know what?
You know what I wish they would do? I don't think
they will do this since we already got a ROTF
Mindwipe, but repaint him as Mindwipe. Mindwipe?
Yeah. Have a Stealth Bomber Mindwipe? I was tempted
to go the BotCon 09 route and repaint him a slightly
lighter color scheme and call him the Sweeps.
Oh. Yeah, you can do that. And then you can have
an army. Yeah, there you go, that works. His
armada. The sweeps. That would rule. I would
actually buy more than one. Hasbro, you evil
bastards. Taking all my money. Let's move on
to the display case. I guess I'll go first and
I'm going to be talking about what... I don't
know. I thought he was going to be cool when
I first got the... I bought the... This is a
while ago. I've had this for a while. This was
about a couple months ago. When BBTS first got
the Sons of Cybertron animated set in, obviously
I bought it just for Rodimus. And I know that
the Optimus that came with the 2 -pack is basically
a full color crystal clear version of the battle
damage 2 -pack Optimus. And I'm so glad I missed
out on the 2 -pack Optimus because this thing
is easily the worst toy, Transformers toy I've
had in a long time. This mold sucks because this
mold apparently has been used so many times that
As soon as I got him out of the box, I couldn't
even get him to stand up and he would keep falling
over and falling over and falling over and falling
over. I had to basically have him stand up with
his leg halfway twisted to the right and his
other leg almost up his ass. I mean, it's just...
And like when I was trying to transform him into
truck mode, I got it. Majority of the way it
didn't really work and then one of the freaking
uh Smoke stack that pieces of shit thing popped
off, and I can't get it back in the hole And
I actually don't know where it is now it was
on my desk here somewhere, but I don't know where
it is now you know I had I want to say two of
that two pack and I open one just to play with
it and That that's a that's just a crappy crappy
toy. We're talking about the same one here, right?
This is the one that rotates at the at the waist
Yeah, this is the deluxe of this is the deluxe
mode earth mode optimus prime except This is
the crystal clear version that came at the Sun's
Cybertron animated to back And when I was trying
to transform him into truck mode, I'm like, okay.
Well the Voyager legs they they come up they
don't come apart but the wheel is why the hell
are there two this thing has four wheels on its
leg what what the hell on each leg it has two
wheels and I'm thinking why the hell are there
two wheels on the leg I'm actually at a bit of
a loss because I was looking in my cabinet to
see if I could find mine and you can't and I
I don't see it but I know he was crappy. I played
with him for a little while and said, you know,
this mold really bites. The problem I had, I
had him on my desk for a long time, is that he's
got like a lever that you can push to make him
spin. But there's nothing that makes him lock
in place. So I mean, his whole upper body would
kind of like rotate back and forth. Exactly.
Look at the camera. Look at the camera. Oh, there
you are. I see your face. It has two wheels on
the... Why the hell does it have two wheels on
a fucking leg? That makes no sense. Oh, I don't
know. I mean, see? It's got two wheels on...
Two wheels, one leg. That makes no damn sense
whatsoever. I don't know. Hey, you got a haircut.
Yeah, I've had... Don't you watch my YouTube
videos? I've had a haircut for months. I hate
your YouTube videos. No, you don't. You need
to watch my Beast Wars, uh, Cheetor Puggleformer
video. Oh, I do. Yeah. See? Anyways. You should
have called Cali header dialing on that one too.
But yeah, I mean, this is easily... I don't know
if it's a quality control issue or what, but
this is easily the worst Optimus Prime animated
mold ever. No, it's just a really crappy mold.
I didn't like it. And you know in the two -pack
that I got the Megatron that it came with Turns
into a green tank he sees so so but he's got
that same rotating swivel thing going on with
his arm Yeah, I don't like the deluxe Megatron
because it's a Cybertronian mode thing. I don't
like that. I when it comes to animated I prefer
the earth mode Megatron The deluxe Cybertronian
mode, wasn't that part of the 2 pack? Oh, no,
no, you're talking about the one that came in
your 3 pack? No. That's Galvatron. No, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no The one that I don't like from animated
the Megatron that I don't like from animated
is the Cybertronian deluxe class mold The one
where he looks like some sort of weird Cybertronian
jet Yeah, I don't like that one But anyway, yeah
What picture? Mine? Technical difficulties ladies
and gentlemen I know. Alright, I'm gonna turn
him around a little bit. Let me see his front.
Wait a minute, that's a... Okay, actually, that's
an animated Prime. Yeah. Oh, that's not the one
I thought you were talking about. Yeah. No, I
like that Prime. No, no, no, this is - What's
wrong with that Prime? Huh? So what's wrong with
that Prime? Uh, he's completely loose. No, see,
you know what I thought you were talking about?
They have a Sons of Cybertron set. It's not the
animated set, it's the classic set. Right, no,
I'm talking about the animated set. That's what
I've said. Oh no, yeah. That one had a Classics
Rodimus, who was clear, as well as the Classics...
Right. They came in a two -pack with with the
Megatron and that Megatron turned into a green
I was talking about this this cup. Yeah. No,
that's the animated Yeah, this comes from the
battle. I kept saying throughout this whole show
so far. I've said the battle begins to back This
is this is what that comes from Okay, this mold
is the only like clean mold because you can see
on his waist. He doesn't have he doesn't have
battle damage Okay So the other - But this one
doesn't have a swivel here. I'm telling you about
the swivel gimmick. He doesn't have a swivel
gimmick. Yes he does. Let me see. I - Fuck. Make
it happen. Fucking toy. You and your ham -fist.
What are you doing? Shaking it? Shake, shake,
shake. Shut up. It does swi - Fucking thing.
Oh, man! Just toss it over my shoulder. Fucking
toy. Yeah. So for the non -viewing audience who
can't see what he just did, I was appalled. My
heart just left out of my chest. You know, just
flippantly tosses Optimus over his shoulder.
Yeah, exactly. Anyways, um, no. Just so we're
clear for the listening audience here, I am talking
about the Transformers Animated Sons of Cybertron
Crystal Rodimus and Optimus 2 -pack. The Optimus
Prime that is in that 2 -pack is from the Animated
Battle Begins Optimus Megatron 2 -pack. This
mold sucks donkey balls It does this is the loosest
optimus prime I have ever had and it just The
damn thing almost fell apart in my hand as soon
as I got it out of the box Yes Want to say he's
the Voyager. He's the ones got like the squirt
cannon Yeah, that's the Voyager that has the
squirt cannon. Yeah, and then I've got the little
The one I've got in my hand now is the Cybertron
mode right and I really like him This is a nice
figure, but I can't quite find the one that you're
talking about He might be buried way in the back
of my cabinet. I just don't seem yes a lot of
these all fell over in the front Yeah, the Cybertronian
Cybertronian mode, uh, Transformers animated
Optimus Prime kicks ass. He's nice. Anyway, I
put him way back in the back of my cabin. So
moving right along, so you have this Optimus
figure that you don't like. I'm really surprised
because honestly, I haven't seen too many Transformers
animated figures that I didn't like. Some of
them can be a little difficult because it's like...
peeling an onion to get them untransformed and
then putting the onion back together in a different
shape, like blur or lockdown. But, you know,
for the most part they're very satisfying toys.
Yeah, this one wasn't. And let's be honest, really,
the only reason why anyone's gonna get that Sons
of Cybertron animated set is for a crystal clear
Rodimus. I mean, let's be honest, people. Optimus
Prime in that 2 -pack doesn't mean shit. You
know, I really like clear Rodimuses. I don't
own nearly enough. And by that I don't think
I own any. By the time they started making clear
Rodimuses, I quit importing from Japan. The first
one I can remember was the clear Bendy Prime
from the Armada series. They had a deluxe class
Optimus Prime because the leader class Prime
was a brick. It was a horrible toy. But they
came out with a smaller version, the nickname
Bendy Prime, because he was just really well
articulated. It was a really nice toy. They repainted
him like a dozen times. But in Japan, they had
a clear version of it. And it was just really
nice. And I always wanted one and didn't get
one. And now every time they've come up with
an Optimus, he's clear. and black and blue and
white you know and now they actually have a gray
one so it's like I'm dead optimist well you know
what the one that I want them to come out with
constantly now we always have constant black
primes I want constant purple primes you want
shattered glass primes? yeah you know if I think
that whoever owns you know the rights It's a
bot con what ultimately it's gonna be right Hasbro,
but you know I think Hasbro would have to license
that back from fun pub. Yeah I'm not sure how
that would work because they own the rights to
You know Transformers, but they may not own the
rights to shatter glass which sucks You were
just showing me the picture erotimus, that's
a nice toy I've got, yeah, I've got the US version
of Transformers Animated Rodimus, and I like
him. You know, he's not the end -all be -all,
but I do dig him. I mean, you know, he's Rodimus.
The Animated Rodimus, whether it's the US version
or this Crystal version, to me, is the end -all
be -all because he is the only toy that I can
really think of that does not have a backpack.
I mean he's got the thing back it but I mean
look I mean there's no bulk on him whatsoever.
Oh No, I don't think many of the animated toys
do yeah I mean some of them, you know, they'll
have a Car hood or something for a chest, but
they're supposed to that's that's that's what
they look like, you know They're pretty good
about kibble. Ah, hey look at there. He's adorable
So we still have the camera on and Mike is showing
me yeah, anyways, what are you gonna be talking
about this evening? Actually, I wanted to talk
about Revenge of the Fallen swerve, okay, and
the thing about swerve, you know swerve is kind
of like You know jazz in in in my mind, you know
not because they're Identical characters they
look the same or you know they act the same But
it swerve is one of those characters that I have
every incarnation of So it's like every time
they come out with a new character called swerve.
I have to own it It's kind of like jazz every
time they come out with a new character called
jazz. I have to own it I've got I mean, especially
if they do a g1 homage repaint. Yeah I mean if
it looks like g1 jazz if it's white you must
have it with the red and the blue stripes and
the big four on it. I own it. I love that deco.
And, you know, Swerve, in G1, he was just a little
minibot, you know, red and white. But, you know,
I like that red motif. And every once in a while,
pretty much every line, you know, they'll come
out with a new vehicle, they'll paint it red
and they'll call it Swerve. So, here's my dilemma.
I don't buy a lot of Revenge of the Fallen toys.
You know, the only ones that I've got are gonna
be the ones that are painted up like G1 homages.
Or combiners. Or toasters. Or toasters, yeah.
You know what, let's just say I own a lot of
them. But I'm not gonna go nutcase completionist
on them. Because number one, I don't want to
devote more than one cabinet shelf to them. And
number two, because I just don't like the way
they look. I'm not a big fan of Bayformers. I
just don't dig it. A lot of the scout classes
don't look like Bayformers. They have weird -looking
faces. But aside from that, they could fit in
with other lines pretty well. Not animated, of
course, but some other lines they would look
good in. You know some of them even would fit
in nicely with the classics especially again
when they're g1 repaints, but swerve is one of
those he's a g1 repaint, so it's like I'm gonna
break down and buy him and Oddly enough when
I bought him Revenge of the fallen a side swipe
was on clearance for like seven bucks, and they're
the same mold so I went ahead and bought him,
too so Vicious cycle It is and it never stops.
It's it's a sickness, you know and and I don't
know it I just How should I put it At first I
was like no I'm not gonna buy any movie toys
and now that I have I keep making up excuses
to buy them It's like oh this jazz is in g1 colors
or you know, this side swipe is painted up like
g1 swerve You know, he's red, you know, sure.
A while back, to digress a little bit, I actually
wrote up a blog post about, at the time it was
a 2008 BotCon, and they were creating a shattered
glass blur, and I was all excited because the
mold that they had used that for was the same
one as Cybertron Blur, which is the same one
that they repainted as Universe Swerve. And again,
Swerve, he's red, and he's black, and I must
own him. So I bought him. But in that blog post,
I put a bunch of pictures of the original Swerve
and Universe Swerve. And at the time, I was lamenting
the fact that I didn't own an Alternators Swerve.
But that post was written like two years ago,
and I own one now. So woo -hoo! Actually, at
this point, I have all of the Alternators. Finally
found that that camshaft that I couldn't find
I picked one up at the last BotCon So I've got
them all and I've got a good lead chunk of the
Japanese ones Yay me anyway I'm like rambling.
I'm getting off topic again. Just slap me. I
can't do that through the internet, unfortunately
Yeah, real quick, you know some cool things I
like about swerve Yeah, nothing, can't think
of a damn thing. I was having a moment there,
sorry. Head mode maybe? Something about his head?
Well, no, the cool thing is that when they switched
from side swipe, you know, the silver, Revenge
of the Fallen side swipe colors, when they switched
those over to the red color, they gave him a
new head. Right. So I dig the fact that it's
not a side swipe head, right? I don't really
know what this head should be. It's a different
head It doesn't look much like any of the other
swerves I've ever seen But you know he he still
looks um He still looks good Some of the features
on him that I like are This is hard to explain
he he's got weird hips and it's weird in the
sense that he's got these little rubber pieces
that look like I don't they look like femurs
for lack of a better term yeah I don't know if
you can see the picture I'm looking at it right
now yeah I'm looking at it right now the picture
yeah okay yeah so if you look on his his crotch,
basically. He's got these little pieces that
look like they're attaching his legs to his crotch.
But those are actually little pieces of rubber.
And when you move his legs, those pieces move
with him. And they're kind of like attached to
little joints that move up and down. So it's
really weird in the sense that it's almost like
You know if you have this suspension of disbelief,
it's almost like the little pieces of rubber
are moving his leg Yeah, like they're almost
like tendons that are attaching his limbs together
and they kind of pull first thing in there I
thought you were almost gonna say tentacles I'm
sure this they're all they're holding on to You
know, what's your position? I'm directly below
the testicles. If you had two sets of testicles...
Okay, let's not... ...where to hold your legs
onto your body, that's what this would look like.
Oh, wow. You know, you'd have to see it, really,
and... Oh, I can see it. That's the problem.
Yeah, it just looks really cool. I like it. I
think it's a neat effect. the other thing that
he does is he's kind of got that chicken leg
thing going on you know where he's got reverse
angles but when you bend him at the knee right
he's got like a piston that comes out of the
back of his reverse knee and plugs into the back
of his hamstring if you can imagine Sure, but
it's a piston. It goes back up into the back
of his leg. And when you bend him at the knee,
it pushes on this piece. It's like a silver knee
joint in the front. It's almost like leg or knee
armor, right? Yeah. And when you bend him at
the knee, that pops down low. It moves back and
forth. It's like the Mech Alive gimmick. Right.
It's neat. I dig it. I like it a lot. Exactly
why I don't like Bayformers because they show
all these moving joints and parts and it gives
you a more visual perspective on these toys and
it's like, why can't all the parts... Reminds
me of the Masters of the Universe Classics Roboto
where they have a clear chest and you can see
the working gears inside the figure. Love I like
that, but I don't like with like these Freaking
baitformers jerk. Oh where you move their arm
and you can see the stuff move inside there.
Yeah I like that but not on Like I'm using mech
alive on ravage where his mouth opens, but I
don't like the aesthetic design that the movie
toys have as far as like seeing weird crumbled
-up knee joints or ankle joints going into, you
know, hamstring joints. I don't know. I suppose.
It's all very convoluted. But, you know, I like
it here. I like the effect. I think it looks
cool. To be honest, I didn't really notice it
at first because I just keep his legs very straight.
And the problem is that he's got wheels for feet.
Yeah. He's hard as hell to stand up. I had the
same problem with side swipe. You kinda gotta
get his feet just so. If he's leaning too far
forward, he's gonna topple over. If he's leaning
too far back, he's gonna topple over. If you
hold him by the legs, you can kinda make it look
like he's doing that roller skating thing that
he did in the movie. I should say Side Swipe
did it in the movie, but Swerve's got the same
feet, right? So yeah, it's annoying that he's
got wheels for feet. I've seen Transformers,
namely like Animated Blur, who have wheels for
feet, and it can be done right. Well, technically
Blur's wheels are his ankles. They're not actually
his feet because he actually has feet. Right,
well I mean this guy has... No, not really. He
has wheels. As a sole of his foot is a wheel,
and then he has a red chicken toe. Yeah, basically,
he's got a red chicken toe. He's got heels. The
heel piece pops out and folds back, you know?
So that's the only thing that's keeping him standing
up half the time. I kind of wish that piece was
a little bigger. But, you know, again, I really
like this toy. He's got a little bit of gold.
Around the waist there, and I it's the only gold
I can find on him, but I think that's kind of
a You know a little homage there to the Alternators
swerve who was red and gold I really I think
I prefer that one, but you know for the most
part I dig this guy. He's he retains the the
flip out blades that sideswipe had They actually
used in the movie I dig that I think it's the
I keep his folded back though because My side
swipe keeps his deployed. So he's kind of got
these Wolverine claws going on there And I really
like his His vehicle mode, you know, I Dig his
blue windshield. I like the red. I just think
it's a it's a nice toy if you can if you can
make him stand and display nicely, which we're
having a little trouble doing right this second,
you know. He's a nice toy. He's got a decent
amount of play value. He's got some nice gimmicks
on him, you know. I dig it. And again, I don't
buy a lot of Revenge of the Fallen toys, but
I'm kinda happy that I bought this guy. I do
dig him. One of the things I've noticed, like
in stores and stuff, for Revenge of the Fallen
stuff, because obviously majority of the stuff
comes in alt mode. We all modes are like, you
know, especially with the vehicles like car the
cars that they're super sleek cars For the most
part if I was to which I will never ever support
Bay former toys but if I was to I would just
get vehicle modes and Just keep them kind of
like, you know Sentinel Prime had swindle trapped
in vehicle mode on the only the guard ship pretty
much I would just put them in vehicle mode all
the time. Honestly, that's the outside of Ravage.
The only appealing thing about the Revenge of
the Fallen Line to me is the vehicle modes because
they're super sleek and they're super nice. You
don't see moving parts spilling out of them.
I mean the vehicle modes are licensed products.
They have to look like the car. They can't deviate
because the car manufacturers will freak out.
This is their product on the screen. They're
probably paying Bay a lot of money to use their
particular cars. And they don't want that tampered
with. So no, the car mode, the vehicle modes
are going to look really nice no matter what.
And in many cases, These vehicles are are not
let's say G1 colors. They're going to be the
exact colors that the manufacturer offers the
car, right? so you can go to I Don't know what
kind of car this is but you can it's a what it's
a Corvette, right? So you can go buy a Corvette
in that exact same car You know, I mean it's
kind of like, you know the the original Cartoons
the G1 cartoons were a toy commercial Well, the
Bay former movies are car commercials You see
a lot of these cars just driving around and it's
like why aren't they in robot mode? You know
running or doing whatever they do. Well, it's
because they're selling the cars and You know,
I'm not gonna you know Bash them on that because
you know for the most part these are nice -looking
cars. They do look good Uh, which is probably
why, you know, you wouldn't mind having them
in just karma. Exactly. But you know, there are
certain aspects of the, uh, the bayformers that
I don't like. I mean, if you look at like barricade,
this is just an awful, awful robot. Um, it just
looks really bad. It's, it's almost as if you
took the insides of a car and, you know, stretch
them out like taffy and then form them roughly
into the shape of a versatile. It just looks
really, really, really bad. But I don't get that
so much with Swerve or Sideswipe. I don't get
that so much with Jazz either, to be honest.
I don't mind Revenge of the Fallen Jazz. I think
he looks good. But there are some other toys.
I mean, some toys I even thought were going to
be nice, like Rampage. I really like the construction
vehicles. And I got the Rampage and I transformed
him and this toy is just the suck. I mean, as
cool as he looks, no. If I had known he was this
awful in robot mode, I probably would not have
bought him. But I mean, that's typical of Bayformers.
Well, I want to say the bigger ones. Again, the
Scout classes. Usually pretty good some of the
deluxe one some of the bigger ones not so much
Yeah But you know, maybe that's just me and my
bias Yeah, I don't you know, it's sometimes I'm
pleasantly surprised like this, you know, it's
I think Of course, this is going back ten episodes
I think it was Brian Kilby that mentioned way
back in episode 70 when you guys were talking
about power core combiners is that Right now,
there's so much out there for Transformers that
you don't have to pick just one line. Like, if
you're not into what was Revenge of the Fallen
and now is Hunt for the... If you're not into
that, you don't have to, you know, be buying
those toys. But for me, specifically, because
I'm kind of not a fan of the movies anymore,
and I'm definitely not a fan of the toys outside
of Ravage for the most part, as far as their
robot modes go, I just... I don't have any interest
in a range of volunteers, but at the same time
I can have that opinion and I still have a plethora
of, we just talked about all the crap that's
coming out in Generations. Right, there's a lot
of good stuff coming out for Generations. There's
a lot, I mean I'm still seeing pictures of neat
stuff coming out for power core combiners. And
you know, I could talk at length about that line,
I love that stuff. Yeah, we know. Anyone that's
listened to episode 70 knows. We were talking
at length. Yes, yes, yes, we did. But, I mean,
there's so much out there that they're gonna
give us, and there's so much out there that we
yet have to see, and I think that, you know,
it's not just to one line. I mean, yes, granted,
they canceled animated before it actually got
its comeuppance, I think, but... It was probably
a good time. They were at a good stopping point,
to be honest. There's a lot of stuff they could
have expounded upon, like Sorry and Her. Well,
I mean, as far as the toy line, they canceled
animated before. Oh, bastards, I know. And Japan's
getting all of them now. And the problem is the
Japan ones are so cool looking and it's like,
wow, I won't replace all my American ones. I'm
full of hate, honestly. And I went to... Yeah,
hate for Hasbro bastards. I went to BotCon and
they had them all there, but they wanted like
$30 for a deluxe. Yeah. So it's like, you know
what? Do I really need to buy a gold -plated
Bumblebee for 30 bucks? Hey, Japanese animated
gold bug is awesome. Shut up. No, he's not a
gold bug. He's Bumblebee. They named him Gold
Bug. I named him Gold Bug because he's gold and
he looks... I don't care if it's TFA 033 07,
I don't care if it's Bumblebee, I call him Gold
Bug because he's friggin' gold and he looks like
a gold bug. No, I get where you're coming from,
you know, and some people don't like that aesthetic,
they don't like the gold paint. Because I'm very
happy that I, at the time when I was barely watching
animated, And I started watching it. I never
really cared for Bumblebee's character, and I
had seen a whole bunch of video reviews about
the American Deluxe Bumblebee. I never got it.
The only Deluxe Bumblebee I have is the Elite
Guard Bumblebee, which was the repaint. That's
a nice one. It is. And I'm very glad that I missed
out on the American one, because eventually I'll
get the Japanese Gold Bumblebee. The Deluxe one,
so... You know, if I... If, you know, crossing
the fingers, you know, if I find them on clearance
somewhere... Or if someone's selling a bunch
of them on eBay for like half off, I'll be the
first one in line. But I'm not going to spend
30 bucks on them. I had the same issue with the
10th anniversary Beast Wars. You know, the repaints
that came out of Hasbro were nice. They looked
good. But the stuff that came out of Japan was
like, oh my god. It's like, holy crap, these
are really nice. And it kind of made me look
at the American ones and go, you know. Why did
we get this? You know, honestly, what are you
trying to insult us? Look at what they got in
Japan. Yeah, they had some really nice stuff
out of Japan. And they even had some characters
that were Japanese specific. Like, they had a
repaint of Korhadra, which we never saw here
because it was like, B -Sports 2 or something.
But, yeah, Korhadra was a snake. It was a cool
toy. Kinda neat. Anyway, I'm like getting way
off topic again, and we probably should be -
No, hey, you know, it's, you know - I always
do this - Yeah, but we can't just - You know,
how long are these episodes? Oh, about a half
an hour, and two hours later, I'm still running
- Two hours? What do you mean two hours? It's
only an hour and five minutes. You know, I'm
just saying. It's not like you have to go to
work. That's how I get. That's true. So, you
know - You know yeah, we are recording this on
a Friday night, so you know it's not like you
have to go to work tomorrow It's not like Thursday
night three -hour sessions It's good that we
have a side discussion like this cuz I don't
I don't want this show and I said this really
I don't want this show just to be Here's the
toy I'm gonna talk about here's what I like about
it. Here's what I hate about it and I don't want
it to be like, you know a hospital room for this
show Just sterile stank and just like something
stuck up our butts or something Right, but you
know, I I have a nasty tendency to Go off on
tangents and just run with it. It's a run with
it. I don't care. That's one uh... so i guess
