ToyCast – Episode 76 – Totally Tubular Dude

of Toycast. I am your host DFG1Mike and joining

me today is Optobotamus. Hello, sir. Good afternoon.

How are you? Good morning. Evening. Whatever.

It's only 3 .30 here. I don't know what I'm supposed

to say to you. And Optimus Scourge, hello sir.

How's it going everybody? It's going. So what

have you guys been up to? Optimus, what have

you got going on? Well, right now I am attempting

to edit this video. I'm actually doing it while

I'm talking to you. I got a question from Spada.

otherwise known as BoltMatrix. He sent me a message

on Twitter asking me, um, how's your lighting?

What do you do for your lighting for your videos?

And he's like, I can't get rid of the shadows.

And how do I, how do I do that? And I'm like,

you know what's a million and a half people ask

me that exact question on an everyday basis.

So I might as well do a really quick, just a

really quick little video. And it ended up, it's,

it's Turned into about a nine minute video Where

I'm showing off my review area how I how I actually

eliminate shadows how I get my videos as white

as I do and Yeah, that's that's what I'm doing

right now awesome My iPhone recorded a portion

of me upside down from the ceiling Yeah, but

I don't understand it because the iPhone when

you record videos I did it in widescreen It's

got the camera has a an orientation thing where

you can have it You can't have it upside down

because the camera rotates depending on the orientation

of how you're holding the phone I'm trying to

figure out why I'm upside down, but no other

part of the video is upside down. I Don't get

it I have an ass. It's basically a guess but

I have an Android incredible which is basically

the you know Very similar to an iPhone in a lot

of ways and not in some I know they're not the

same But it has a lot of the same features and

it does have the rotating video I was videotaping

the parade yesterday, and I haven't checked it

yet But I think I noticed that if you hold it

straight forward it'll record Each side will

balance to each side, but I don't know if upside

down will do upside down. I didn't test that

that's the only thing I can think of is if you

had straight up and down upside down and it doesn't

rotate that way I think my phone is like that

if the iPhones like that too then that could

be and that's the flash player that's the video

player too or whatever engine that's running

that so I I'm really not sure but that that that

sucks and unless there's a way for you to insert

a segue into that saying and now back from Bizarro

world are you recording yourself yeah I mean

I can I can half -ass fix it I just I put it

in my editing program and I'll be able to rotate

it but when I rotate it it distorts the the quality

of it so I'm trying to I'm trying to and I just

noticed that for some reason everything else

because the iPhone 4 records in 720p HD and I

did four different segments the first segment

is of me on camera and for some reason it only

recorded in 480p and then the other three segments

recorded in 720 so I don't know that's that's

off on a tangent but I don't understand it It's

definitely a tangent, but I can I can feel your

frustration I would I would be probably pretty

pissed and want to do with the video again And

be mad that I had to do it again, but I do it.

Yeah It depends on how long a video it is I don't

want you have to give anything away yet, but

I mean it just depends on what it is The front

the front segment is only 50 seconds. I mean

I could easily reshoot it but Me being the smartass

that I am, I might just leave it upside down.

And me being the smartass that I am, I want to

make a truck -not -monkey joke. Like, why am

I upside down? I'm gonna have the Vangelis subtitles

coming in my video. Oh, I love those. I'll have

those be upside down, too. That'll really screw

people's heads up. He's another one of my inspirations

as far as his work. And I've been to many Bot

Cons and TF Con and actually roomed with him.

We had a masterpiece Grimlock, a little get -together

on YouTube that's on his channel, but I think

it's on my channel, too. But yeah, we definitely

had some good times. He has some video of me

eating poutine for the first time in Japan. Wish

I was in Japan in Canada. Let me explain this

for those of you who don't know what poutine

is It's not anything dirty. It is a food and

it consists of regular like big cut french fries

Oh gravy cheese like mozzarella melted cheese

gravy and I think it has like balls of cheese

or something in it, too. I forget what but it's

mostly gravy and gravy and cheese on french fries

wow and i believe it's also maple syrup i believe

it i could correct me if i'm wrong somebody but

i believe that's what it is i'm not canadian

but i have a lot of canadian friends and i tried

that let's just say it's interesting the first

time you taste it it's good but it's just very

interesting so what are you going up to optimus

scourge besides uh... eating that or whatever

that was a long time ago and we're going on tangents

let's uh stay on track here uh what i've been

up to lately i've been uh getting really back

into youtube uh my username is optimistscourge76

on youtube uh trying to get that going i have

a lot of fun doing it i do it just for the fun

mostly uh i'm not gonna try and make money i'd

love to be a partner and do long videos but i'm

not gonna try and make money but uh i just really

enjoy it i enjoy the community the comments uh

You know, uh, it's fun when you have something

that's, that's new and fresh that people want

to talk about. Uh, it's also fun for me to do

contests. Uh, today I have to record a video

after midnight on who won my three GI Joe commanders,

which at the time this is released will be, have,

will have been done. And I'm going to be doing

some more probably a transformers one next, but,

um, I just enjoy the whole thing of it. Um, so

I've been very into doing that. I just did a

Generations Red Alert that my friend found at

a Toys R Us and rang it up as a drift. His name

is Animated Soundwave on YouTube, Big Bad Boombox

at TFW. That's what I've been doing recently,

mostly is reviews. Been trying to hold off on

buying too much stuff after everything else I

bought. Yeah, I've pretty much been doing a lot

of podcasting. Haven't got too much. Got in which

I talked about last episode of the show I get

in the the animated crystal clear set so really

stoked about having those guys So I guess the

discussion topic today to keep things moving

along here is it'll basically be a reminiscing

discussion on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys

and One of the reasons why Paul is here for this

is because he and I have a huge disagreement

over which is better, his mutating turtles or

the original 87 turtles? I don't want to be involved.

It's not that I say, I mean... To each their

own. I prefer the mutating ones. That's not to

say that the originals, and even to a lesser

degree, because they're pretty much identical,

the reissue versions of the original 80 Turtles.

I just like that the mutating ones have that

same type of a look, plus the neat added feature

of being able to transform them. Well, I like

that aspect it's cute that I can turn them in

a little tiny Well, they're not very tiny but

I can turn them in a little turtles now granted

They never very rarely do they get displayed

that way if people I have a second channel that

on YouTube that's called just the bottom s and

I'm doing a video series right now because a

lot of people always want to see my collection

they want to see everything that I have and I

don't want to put out a 30 to 45 minute long

video just showing my shelves. So what I've decided

to do is each individual shelf I kind of focus

on. I'll do a quick three to five minute long

video focusing on just one shelf. And if I'm

not mistaken, one of the first shelves that I

did, I think it was episode two. I'm not 100

% sure. Yeah, it was episode two. I've done three

episodes and I've already forgot which ones that

I freaking have done. Episode two was focusing

on what I consider my Turtles Forever shelf.

Now, when the movie, the Turtles Forever movie

came out, what was it, two years ago now? Two,

three years ago? Yeah, it was last year. Oh wow,

it's closer than that. It just hit DVD this year.

Ah, gotcha. I was like, you know, I watched it

and I didn't care for it too much in terms of

the story, well, I mean, in terms of the acting

and the voice acting and things of that nature.

I thought that was kind of subpar, but I really

liked the story and the whole idea of bringing

all the turtles from different generations and

things of that nature together into one kind

of thing. I was like, you know what? I'm gonna

go and I'm gonna... make a little turtles forever

display so I went rummaging through all of my

old stuff I have like a box of just random old

stuff and most of them are like old Marvel x

-men type of figures from the early 90s but I

knew I had a mutating Michelangelo in there and

I had that from when I was a kid and I was like

I went out and I found it and I was like, you

know what, I really kind of like this. And it

was right around the time when they were releasing

or re -releasing the original Turtles. I'm like,

yeah, why don't I? I'm like, I'll just buy the

mutating ones. I mean, they're fun. I kind of

like them. And I went out and I bought all those.

And then I was like, well, if I'm going to do

a Turtles forever, then I need to have. the original

comic book turtles what were called I think they

call them like turtles turtles prime yeah so

I went and I bought the black and white NECA

turtles from the early comics and then I bought

the the 2000 whatever I don't even know what

year they came out in 2003 thank you I was gonna

say 2002 but yeah 2003 You know, and I got those

and I was like, well, now I want to get the movie

Turtles from the TMNT CGI movie because I'd like

that. So I started just buying all these things

and I've actually stopped. There hasn't been

much. I mean, I do have some that I'm still watching

in my my eBay list, mostly like a newer version

of Splinter, Foot Soldier, things like that.

But. You know, so I went and I got those and

the whole, I mean, Mike and I started kind of,

you know, what's better? And it was just, I really

liked the mutating ones. I liked the aspect that

they gave and having said that, you know, I mean,

I thought it was nice that they had a mutating

shredder and a splinter that had an alternate

mode of their, well, splinter had, you know,

his human version. you know, and then of course

you had Shredder, who really wasn't a mutating

one, it was just, you had a Rokosaki, and then

you had it where you can put his armor on him,

which wasn't really mutating, but I mean, it

was, I just liked the, you know, diversity of

being able to have a different look. So it's

not that, so it's not that. I think the original

ones are worse than the mutating ones, or vice

versa, or anything of that nature. I just like

the added feature. So there, said my piece, I'm

done. Okay, so for me, once G1 ended, and yes,

I know it continued in Japan, fine, whatever.

I was a kid in 87, you know, and once it wasn't

on air anymore in the US, other than like Power

Master stuff, I was pretty much done with it,

so I moved on. The next thing I found was turtles.

And I remember haunting my mom, looking everywhere

for these things in 1987. This toy line is one,

you know, Transformers has, well they both have

a 25 year history now, but I mean at the time,

Transformers, even though they're still big and

everything else now, There wasn't a lot of transformers

left on the shelves in 87 and these came in and

these were the new thing And these were just

awesome. We looked everywhere for these toys

I think one of my favorite like alternate lines

to the original ones was the oh The the head

pop -up ones You know what I'm talking about

Paul what no where you going? there was remolds

of the original figures yeah you push their head

down into their shell and you press something

on their back or something on the back or something

and their head pops up well now that's just silly

anyways another one that i liked was they had

done several themes with the basic series figures

uh... you had leo the sewer samurai don the undercover

turtle mike the sewer surfer and wrath the space

cadet which those are done in nineteen ninety

which i really enjoyed those but um... actually

was not until one year for halloween they've

done so many different versions i mean i i'm

i'm looking here and i mean you know they've

done star trek version they've done sports different

sports version There's just so many different

incarnations. I mean, they really have taken,

you know, I'm looking here at Universal Studios

where there was a Leo that looked like a wolf

man and Don was a Dracula, Mike Frankenstein

wrapped with money. I mean, Bride of Frankenstein

was April O 'Neil. I mean, come on. I like it.

I just thought, I think it got a little ridiculous.

And then, because we're looking, and I'll put

the link in the show description, but I've pulled

up a link of the history of the turtle's figures,

the turtle's action figures, and it says, for

1991 unproduced toys, a 13 -inch April drawing

gives the representation that she would have

been in the vein of a Barbie doll, which, well,

that would have been horrible. I think that would

have been horrible. I mean, it would be nice

if they did it under the Barbie line, but for

under the turtles line, nah. but you know turtles

was something that we all grew up with or most

of us grew up with and if you're not into that

you're not into that but if you are you are and

you're right they all do have different things

and everybody can like their own different thing

but one of the reasons why i was bringing this

up was kind of moving into the display case segment

here i guess i will go first um i still have

my original Donatello and Leonardo and unfortunately,

they are not complete and they have plenty of

paint wear on them, but These two figures and

my original I know Paul's gonna hate me for bringing

this up constantly my original 1983 castle gray

skull are the only three toys I have left from

my childhood and These guys even though they

don't have their accessories and anything else

that they're still awesome Any time that you

can get originals I mean it's gonna be impressive.

I mean you can have the reissues of the turtles

and everything but Really, you know the originals

are gonna hold a more I want to say higher status

in your collection. I mean Not to really switch

gears or anything, but I mean comparing, you

know, reissues to originals. I recently, well

not recently, earlier this year bought a G1 Predaking

and my friend was like, you know, why Paul? I'm

like, why are you gonna buy that? And I paid,

I don't even remember how much I paid for it.

It was like $600 or something like that. And

he's like, why are you gonna get that? They're

gonna reissue it. They're gonna, I mean, it's

gonna happen. And then sure enough, they announced

that they're going to reissue it. But really,

to me, it's still the fact that I can look at

those figures and know that they're their originals

and look on there and see that the copyright

stamp is from back in the day. And everybody

can have brand new minty fresh ones that's going

to come out in a couple months or whatever. But

mine's still, to me, going to have more character

to it. Right, and I will agree on Transformers,

like for old stuff like that I prefer original,

but with the Turtles stuff, if you don't want

to pay eBay prices for the original toys, the

25th anniversary line where they released the

original four and they released Splinter and

April and Shredder, and I think they released

a Casey Jones, I don't remember. I don't remember

seeing a Casey Jones, I do remember seeing a

Bebop and Rocksteady. Right. Right. I'm not sure

about Casey. I don't know if they did. What,

for the originals? Yeah, for the 25th anniversary

line. I don't know. I had the, whatever, 2003

ones and I had that Casey Jones. Yeah. I like

the fact that they did the 25th anniversary figures.

Of course, now you can't find them anywhere except

eBay, unfortunately. I kind of missed out on

those, but those were a nice thing. They're pretty

much the original molds. in the original classic

blister card and they came with a DVD for the

episode and if I was going to get more turtle

stuff if I wanted to have like a complete Donatello

I would still keep this one because he's nostalgic

to me but I would still like to have a you know

fully clothed you know whatever Donatello I do

also have Leo but I'll talk about him in another

episode So I guess moving on here Who are you

going to talk about optimus scourge? I'm gonna

be talking about hearts of steel prime from the

IDW comic book series hearts of steel Which was

done about five years ago. I believe it was a

four -part comic series that involved basically

the old west and the 1800s trains and You know

tanks and cannons and things like that The actual

name of the toy is called Night Morpher Commander.

It is a secondary market kit, fan -made project

type thing, not fan's project though, something

like that, or something like they would make

though, very similar. It was actually made by

a board member of TFW and he was going to sell

them as kits way back in like 06, 07, and finally

he found a company to produce them and have them

sold on a few sites. I had actually been on board

with one of his kits assembled and painted for

$300 back when he announced that was how he was

going to release them and I had already signed

on for one of the kits. And I wanted a black

one, because for those of you who don't know

me or my collection, I am fanatical about black

primes. But I know they will eventually release

a repaint soon enough of the Night Morpher Commander,

going to be Dark Morpher Commander or something

like that in black. I mean, it's inevitable.

And it would also fit in not only with a black

convoy nemesis prime scourge type collection,

it would also fit in well with the time of the

vehicle for those that don't care about black

prime. however that being said for the time engines

were painted fire engine red and blue i mean

the pictures are all in black and white because

that's all they had but if you actually see like

you know the actual old ones and how they were

they were colored for the so for those that do

think that it's not accurate to have him as being

red and blue. It actually is, because that's

a lot of stuff they did. I mean, you see the

way trains are now, they can be red and blue,

red or blue, or just black. I mean, so really

that argument is out the window with that. It's

just because most people have only seen black

and white photos. Or they could be purple in

the train's case. Not to go off too, too much

off topic, but my grandfather used to, to take

me to Railroad shows and air shows. He worked

at an Air Force base and for the Navy for 40

years at MIT Lincoln Laboratories I still to

this day do not know what he did and he has since

passed and I don't even know if his wife knew

what he did But I just know it involves stuff

for the government. So that's all I really know

But anyway back on topic tonight more for commander

in his train mode He he's basically the best

way to describe him as a toy would be to compare

him a little bit in style to G1 Rodimus Prime

where you have one figure that detaches and you

have a base that flips open into like a little

battle station that's pretty much how he is although

he's a lot more advanced and a lot more articulated

of course. The base figure is pretty much similar

to a G1 transformation I mean his arms fold the

same way. One of the things I was a little weary

on when I first transformed him was not getting

the arms out from the side of the of the locomotive,

but pulling down the upper arms seem to be kind

of a daunting task. And if you don't do it just

right, you feel like you're going to break it,

but it doesn't break. It just really required

a firm tug. And you do have options on how you

want to display this guy. And one of the coolest

things, I'm one of those guys who loves everything

to still in alt mode. You know, combiners I can

forgive because they have their parts, but. Like

how like the fans project stuff everything stows

in the alt modes not to call this fans project

but Everything stows the the sword he has becomes

a cannon his gun stores underneath the the lance

stores inside the shield stores as part of it

everything everything stores the extra hands

he has an angled hand to hold this shield he

has a sort of reminiscent g1 gun which I currently

have attached to the bottom and I have him with

his his night little what do you call that night

morpher No, no, no. The lance. That's what I'm

talking about. He has his lance and his shield

on him right now. I just kind of have him pose

that way. But getting back to the transformation,

other than that, it's pretty simple. You fold

down the legs, flip out the feet, and the hands

up. You can leave a set of hands on there. They

don't have to pop out. They are interchangeable,

and there's three different types. and a couple

of them are angled to hold the weapons at an

angle which is really helpful for the shield

because other than if the fists were going up

you'd have to leave his arm like way pointing

down with the shield and it just wouldn't look

right so I'm glad they did that they really thought

of everything and You know the base like I said

the best way to compare it is to Rodimus It does

inside you can disassemble that lance and make

a cannon There is a rotating cannon that rotates

up. I'd say oh About 75 degrees up not quite

a 90 but it rotates straight up and it rotates

360 degrees around and Prime can stand on this

trailer behind it and there's a little ramp in

the front also The cannon can slide up and down

to either side of the trailer So if you don't

want it in the front where the I'm sorry the

back where the door is you can slide it up to

the front and Put prime to the back and kind

of hide that ramp or put the ramp behind prime

However, you want to do it. So they really kind

of thought of everything with this guy And now

on I'll give a little bit on the detailing on

the sides of the trailer There is like an exhaust

pipe painted silver then there's a little ladder

that's painted red and The silver pipe on the

side is the exact style as the g1 stripes the

little Z squiggle that goes down the side of

the G1 trailer. Oh very cool. It doesn't go the

full length but it has that same style and shape

giving you that G1 feeling. The trailer is best

described as a charcoal gray with very uh a darker

it's like a charcoal colored top with silver

and red accents. The wheels are red and they're

surrounded by protectors that are dark gray.

And the details on the back are absolutely outstanding.

I mean, we're talking better than fun publication

detailing here. A detailed ladder all painted.

The little lookout vent on top of the door is

black with silver outline. The door is painted.

Even the little window and the lines on the door

and the handle is painted. I just noticed a little

paint blotch, but that's okay. The spare tire

on the back of the door is painted, and the little

handles to hold onto the back are painted also.

So all in all, a lot of detail. And one last

thing about him, the little connector that swings

him out to hook can be swung two ways. It can

be swung one way to connect on. with a male connection

and one way to be swung on with a female connection

if you wanted to connect it to something else

or if they're coming out with a future product

that might have a different connection. I'm not

sure what that's for, but it can also be rotated

to the side to hide it. when not in use. Oh,

I see what that's for. That's in the back. That's

to pull another trailer. So I guess if you wanted

to add another trailer, should they make an add

-on trailer for him, like a Power Master type

deal? I don't really know what they have in mind,

but I'm kind of just trying to figure this out

now. But there is that on the back. Other than

that, he holds together kind of like Rodimus

Prime. He just slides in and he gets held. So

that's pretty much it. And in robot mode he does

have light piping in his eyes and around his

chest he has little... and his I believe his

chest does open too his chest does open and there's

a little tiny matrix inside and the chest is

center is clear translucent blue with a red overlay

and there's a little small matrix inside that

when you fold down his chest flat is sitting

in the matrix like it the matrix is sitting in

there like it's floating in the water standing

up straight so that's a really cool feature and

the matrix does come out and again yeah and then

the last thing I wanted to mention was the part

that makes up the cannon It stows on the back

of him. Best way to describe it is just like

Soundwave. This covers the lance and makes it

into a cannon. So you don't have the long pointy

thing. You put these two parts over it that I

would best describe as like shorter, stubbier

versions of Soundwave's batteries and guns. And

they stow on his back like a jet pack. and they

actually have a little they're not painted but

it's just the dark gray but they have little

jet jet pack type intakes so he actually has

a jet pack as well that's often overlooked by

a lot of reviewers but it's a very cool feature

and again part of the part i love about this

toy is it's a toy that can stow all of its parts

in its respective modes so i really really enjoy

this i i know it's a lot of money and a lot of

people can't justify it but for me i was just

just a huge fan of the the comic and I didn't

like too many of the some of the IDW stuff that

was going on with the escalation and all that

I just couldn't get into it so not to go on to

comics but we really wish we could have had a

series based on this that would be really unbelievable

you never know when it could happen yeah I mean

Transformers comics in general and we don't really

want to get off topic on this but outside of

like the BotCon stuff And I ordered the animated

movie, the 86 movie graphic novel from IDW. Outside

of that, there's so much comic stuff I wouldn't

even know where to start. Yeah, well, I understand.

Yeah. But I guess what I was just trying to say

is this is from a comic that had kind of like

a cult following. You know, and it was such a

short series and it was one of those things where

not quite animated level, but it was written

so well. And, you know, Starscream was this gigantic

bomber with four engines and big, huge, you know,

and Megatron was like an old huge, huge ass cannon

that I believe TF Master before he passed away

had handmade one out of styrofoam. in the Raticons

on TFW if you can have time to check that out.

It's pretty amazing. Hearts of Steel Megatron.

Google search it or search it on TFW. It's amazing.

But that's pretty much all I have to say about

this toy. I highly recommend it if you can afford

it. And if you're a fan of that, you will not

be disappointed. It is accurate in every way

to the detail. And I, for one, look forward to

the black repaint. That's about it. Very cool.

What will you be talking about off the bottom

is good, sir? I have no idea. Let's see. Since

this isn't an episode where it's just you and

I, I won't force you to talk about master stuff.

How about you talk about that Tron bike? Ah,

that's, you know what? That's a good one. That's

a good one. Nice. First off, First off, a lot

of people have already hit my video review of

it up and have, for lack of a better word, bitten

about it. They don't think it's worth the price.

A lot of people are equating it to a Happy Meal

toy. First of all, for people that don't know,

30 years After the original Tron movie, they

have finally got everything together. All the

planets have properly aligned in terms of script,

technology, actors, everything has just come

together perfectly for a sequel. Now, and if

I'm not mistaken, this is the record for longest

time in between two movies. The original came

out in 1982. And here we are in 2010, so this

is ridiculous how long it's been, but everybody

that was a fan of the original Tron movie that

I've talked to are excited about this new Tron

Legacy movie that comes out in December. Along

with that, obviously comes Toys. Now, this movie

is being done by Disney, and the Toys... Are

being dumped. I did well. It's busy and then

I can't remember someone else spin master. I

think it's Yeah, so they've come together to

create some very interesting Looking toys. There's

a lot of other ones that are very A lot more

high -tech, but the first one I walked into a

Toys R Us Friday, I think it was and they had

the the Kevin Flynn light cycle which I saw it

and I'm like hmm I wonder so I picked it up I

tweeted if I should buy it and a lot of people

said that I should somebody said that I shouldn't

but he's not a fan of Tron so he doesn't count

so I ended up buying the thing without really

knowing too much about it got back home unfortunately

it's just the light cycle it doesn't come with

any figures it doesn't have any sounds or anything

of that nature And the biggest thing that people

have complained about is the price. It's $14

.99 for just the light cycle itself. Now, my

argument to everybody that has been saying, oh,

you know, it's too cheap, it's lazy, blah, blah,

blah. It's very simple, yes. And everyone's like,

you know, well, it doesn't have much detail.

This toy is supposed to be a recreation of the

original 82 light cycle, which... If you're familiar

with Tron and you look at it, there's really

not much detail in it anyhow. Yeah. There's light.

It's it's it's a light. I mean, that's all it

is. That's all that's all it was supposed to

be. Yeah. Yeah. So the toy in my mind, regardless

if they meant to do it or not, replicates that

fairly well, in my opinion. It's it's a white

bike, which granted. If it was going to be a

recreation, it probably should have been a different

color. Because I'm trying to remember now offhand

what Flynn drove. It was a different color. It

wasn't white. It was like orange or red or something

like that. I don't remember exactly. But we don't

know how this is going to be recreated in the

Neutron Legacy movie. It says on the back of

the packaging that this is an updated version

of it. So maybe it's going to appear again. You

know, it's gonna look different. It's gonna maybe

it'll look more this way. I'm not entirely sure

but They've complained that there's not enough

detail which I think I think the detail is perfectly

fine. It matches Fine, I mean it's very clean

very crisp looking they wanted to have sounds

in it What kind of sounds are you gonna put in

it? You know? I mean, come on. That's price point.

No. Yeah exactly and The biggest thing that I've

told people, I say, they got an LED light in

it, and the light is powered by three 1 .5 volt

little tiny laser pointer batteries. Oh, wow.

Those batteries are not very cheap. Yeah, no.

In general. Those are more costly. I mean, batteries

in general are pretty expensive, but those are

usually pretty pricey batteries. For 1495 you

got three of those little batteries in there

plus you got an LED light If you took those two

things out you could probably easily get this

little toy Down below ten dollars, which is which

I'm sure people would be much happier with My

my only complaint. I really really like the way

it looks Mike, I mean, I'm kind of disappointed

it didn't come with the figure, but the figures

themselves that go along with this bike have

the same light up gimmick as the bike itself.

So if you're familiar with the they released

a. Light up version of the mark six iron man

in the three and three quarter inch line, right?

It's the same type of thing where you push a

button on these little I mean they're like four

inch figures You know the neutron figures are

like four inches you push a button and they'd

light up So, you know and those ones I if I'm

not mistaken are below ten dollars in price So

you put all that together. I think it's a terrific

set The light cycle itself just has so much nostalgic

power with me that sure $15 might be a little

bit too pricey to somebody who's never seen Tron

because I've had people that have left me comments

on my video they're like what's Tron and I'm

like oh I'm like even if you don't know what

Tron is how do you not know what Tron legacy

is yeah I I know of the original movie I don't

think I've ever seen it I might have, I don't

remember. But I don't see how people can complain

about a $14 figure because the only one I've

found so far online, I found it at BBTS, it's

$44 .99. Yeah, I'm telling you, I'm half tempted

to go back to my Toys R Us and see if there are

anymore because when I was there, there was like

six of them. I bought one. I'm like, I should

go back and buy the other ones and just scalp

them on eBay. But it's... It's it's a lot of

people are surprised that they're already out

especially since the movie doesn't come out until

December, but There's a lot of other toys From

this Tron line that I'm very excited about there's

one and I and I'm gonna get the name of it wrong

But it's like a zero G light cycle which uses

some kind of a suction technology or something

where you can have it rolling along the Floor

and then if it hits a wall, it'll ride up the

ride up the wall and it just looks so cool. There's

so many other better toys that it kind of aggravates.

Well, I don't even want to say better toys, but

there's a lot of other stuff that's coming out

from this Tron line that people are like, well,

you know, this is just a cheap way that they're

releasing these toys. I'm like, guys, this is

Disney. Disney does, they do not put their name

on things. That's cheap. That they're gonna sell

fantastic. I was just thinking that I'm watching

a certain person's YouTube review of this thing

right now. They do not have any at My Toys R

Us. They might have them up in New Hampshire.

They seem to always have everything new, but

I was just going to agree with that point that

I saw the Disney on the box and I'm going that

explains the price because you have to pay for

Disney's name. Oh, absolutely, and that's not

to put a pun on it. It's Disney's legacy That's

what they've always done and they always will

their toys. Look at Toy Story toys You want a

real working? What do you want a working Woody

that actually talks 50 bucks? Yeah, and you can

only get it at Target, you know, it's like Well,

and if you go I mean all the you know speaking

of the Toy Story stuff You can take any of those

Toy Story things that I've reviewed if you go

into a Disney store or if you go to Disneyland

or Disney World and try to buy those, you're

going to pay at least $10 more for those things.

Yep, I've been there. I went there for my honeymoon,

actually. And you're right. Everything is super,

super expensive. But they have everything. They

have everything if you can't find it anywhere

else. They do. They would probably sell this

light cycle for $20, I'd say, $25. Very possible.

Very possible. And I've said this to a lot of

people that it's probably not for everyone, but

if you are a fan of Tron It's a nice looking

display piece and I have it right now on the

top shelf in my collection Probably displayed

right in the very middle of everything of all

my transformers It's right there and it stands

out and I absolutely love it I think it's fantastic

and I'm gonna I'm happily gonna buy the rest

of the figures And people are probably going

to get sick of me reviewing them, but you know

what? Who cares? You know, it's a funny thing

because, and we kind of mentioned this over on

GeekCast Radio episode 17 when you and I invented

the YouTube episode. You guys review and talk

about things that you either like or, you know,

something that you think is cool. And our fandoms

aren't just Transformers or Masters of the Universe

or Turtles or... or black optimist primes or

optimist scourges. People have other things that

they like. I guess the old saying, variety is

the spice of life. I don't know. Here you go.

Words for me. Do you have anything else you would

like to say about your light cycle? The only

thing that I kind of do wish that they had And

I thought about doing it myself was getting a

piece of translucent or not even really translucent,

but like a red plastic paper or something like

that. You remember those old like when you would

buy a G1 toy, it would come with like a little

red decoder thing that you could hold over. Like,

you know, it was kind of it wasn't paper, but

it was kind of like a very flimsy kind of thin.

Plastic almost but it was translucent enough

you could see through I wish they had a little

piece like that where I can somehow Stick it

on the back of the light cycle That would be

kind of cool actually because for you for you

Mike that may not be familiar with it The light

cycle was part of a game Inside the movie where

two people would ride on it and it would create

a wall of light behind it The wall of light was

solid. So what you tried to do was just just

slightly get ahead of your opponent and turn

in front of them real quick and hope that they

don't turn and avoid that wall of light, because

if you hit the wall of light, you exploded and

you lost the game. So that's what they were doing.

So I mean, that's the idea of the light cycle

and how it's incorporated into a game atmosphere.

Basically, it's like, I don't know if you ever

played like the old Atari snake game. That's

basically what it is, but there's two people

going at it. And if you create that wall, And

you trick them fairly well. You know, I mean,

obviously you can create a maze. And if you can

get them to run into that wall, you win. So the

little light on the back or a little wall on

the back out of paper or something, that's probably

something that I'm going to try to come up with.

But I would have liked it if they would have

included something like that. That would have

been cool. Awesome. Alright, I think we are going

to take a little break because I want to put

with Optimus Scourge. You have a story for us,

sir. Yes, I do, and it is a good one involving

the good Mr. David Wise, and for those of you

who don't know David Wise, he is the writer of

many a Transformers show, including The Rebirth,

which was all his writing, which was actually

supposed to be a five -parter, and got cut down

to a three -parter by the... editors because

they knew the show wasn't going to go on and

they were going to only air the one pilot and

they knew that was going to be it so they did

not make it a five -parter. However the story

involves BotCon 2004 which was my first BotCon.

It was the first time I had met Peter Cullen.

I've had the pleasure of actually working a show

at CyberCon and meeting Peter Cullen and talking

to him in a bar. I have him as my avatar in a

lot of places and I just had the chance to meet

him at several bar cons and he's just such a

nice guy, but I had never met David wise now

he was at balkan and i knew who he was but i

mean i you know kind of was like okay and then

you know that's like he created turtles i'm like

oh my god that's right so long story short he

had his panel as whole thing so i really got

up to speed on how he was really upset actually

and this is him telling uh... let me get back

to that uh... outside the convention hall in

pasadena which is where last year uh... what

was it all nine was held I believe next year

is also going to be held at the same place in

Pasadena. BotCon 04 was held there and it was

the first time Peter Collin had been at a BotCon

since BotCon 97 back when there was a very, very

small convention. And then in 2004 was still

relatively small and starting to get big. It's

really big and huge now though. Anyway, on topic,

David Wise was a guest at BotCon 2004 and there

was really kind of a downtime. it was just like

dealer room time and he just came out on the

stairway and someone started talking to him and

he ended up sitting down on a spiral staircase

of the convention hall and it's hard to describe

but it was just magical because he was just talking

about his work on transformers and he wasn't

really focusing on how he didn't like the headmasters

but there were a lot of questions to him regarding

that so he did speak on it again and he was really

upset that the characters did not get the development

that he had designed for them to get. They all

had their profiles and bios from Hasbro and he

was going to give them all the personality and

you know the subtitles basically on you know

the things in parentheses to read on the show

of how they act and for the voice actors and

a lot of almost if not all of that got cut out.

We got introduced to like 38 new toys and you

know forty eight minutes i mean he was very he

was very unhappy with hasbro and the others for

them. And then the conversation kind of quickly

switched to Ninja Turtles, where he literally

lit up like a light beam. And Ninja Turtles was

his baby. He created it. He is the driving force

behind it. It is all pretty much David Wise with,

you know, whoever the producing team was. So

he started telling stories of that. And I have

a lot of good memories from the Ninja Turtles.

I watched them when I was a kid. I had gotten

a little bit away from Transformers when Prime

died. and to be honest with you didn't really

get into uh the transformers too much after that

i was a little older but when when the turtles

came out i think i was between 12 and 13 i absolutely

loved it i loved the cartoon at the time i liked

the movies even though they had the vanilla on

that ice ninja rap i don't care i still just

just because i know it was kind of lame looking

back now but you take that rose colored glass

and you look at it as your childhood where everything

is holy and precious and your life is just better

because you're not living in real life yet. And

it just takes me back to that time. So him talking

about the turtles kind of brought me back to

that state. And just everyone around him was

just kind of in awe and he was just going on

for about an hour, hour and a half. We were sitting

there and it was like time stood still. I mean,

this guy talked and everybody just kept quiet.

And he had, I mean, I can't even remember to

be honest with you, cause I was just in awe of

being in his presence. He has a very commanding

personality. You're just drawn to him and just

like, wow, you know, you want to, you want to

like focus on every word he says, but he just

gave a lot of stories about working with turtles.

You know funny things that happened and stories

that didn't come out things like that I wish

I could remember everything that could happen,

but obviously it would be a lot of stuff And

remember go ninja go ninja go I made another
