Masters of the Universe Classics, MattyCollector, and Reissue He-Man

About this Episode
You're listening to the GeekCast Radio Network
of podcasts. Cliffjumper, commence countdown.
Five, four, three, two. Hello and welcome to
the 73rd episode of Toycast. I am TF2 on Mike
and joining me is Optobotamus. Hello, sir. Hello!
How are you? I am pretty good. How are you? Ah,
not too bad. Not too bad. Can't complain. Yes.
Well, you could, but it wouldn't help anything.
That's true, and nobody would listen or care
anyhow. So what are you even up to, sir? I'm
bored. You're bored. Well, that's why we're recording
this episode of Toy Gast. I know, but it's one
of those days where Tuesdays are usually very
slow for me for my work. Mondays are always pretty
busy because I don't do anything over the weekend.
So any orders and stuff that I get over the weekend
get combined into one big day on Monday and then
Tuesday rolls around and Tuesdays are usually
pretty slow so I got done with all my work early
today and now I have General Hospital on in the
background. I gotta turn this. This is terrible.
Holy crap. Oh no, I'm sorry. It's the bold and
the beautiful. Followed by as the world turns
and then oh Rachel Ray, okay Yeah, I definitely
don't want to stay on this channel for too long
and we need to change the spike and get some
man shows on or something people's court people's
oh wait no son of a gun People's court doesn't
come on until one o 'clock. I Got nine minutes.
I don't know what I'm gonna do. I'll talk to
you for nine minutes Actually, we recorded it.
It was very cool of him to do this for us. But
last episode, episode 72, I recorded with Cali
from Twitter and SChungMusha118, I think it's
118 or 18 from Twitter, and the incomparable
Derek J. Wyatt himself. We talked about a bunch
of plush stuff an interesting conversation. Yes
one thing about Derek Wyatt is He's he's a he
really likes Interacting with with the fandom.
Yeah, and that that's fantastic. That's so rare
and It's nice that somebody is passionate about
what he does. I mean, he genuinely likes Transformers
and all that stuff and he's passionate about
it and that passion I really thought came through
with a lot of the work that he did on Animated
and it's good to see. It's very refreshing to
see somebody who's in there who is very communicative
with the fandom itself. Yes, and it was very
cool to talk to Derek. We didn't record this
part, but, well, I did ask him one animated question
before we closed the show, so that's in there,
but after the show, after we finished the recording,
and I wish I'd recorded it, we talked about all
different kinds of things, animated as far as
what went into what, and right now, for the life
of me, I can't remember anything we said. Aww.
Now I and everybody else who hadn't listened
to it yet have to go back and listen to that
podcast. Yes. By the time this gets released,
it should have already been out. Let's see here.
I was going to do this in episode 72, but I said
no, I want to save it for one of the now regular
co -hosts, which is you. We actually got a new
iTunes review. This was done August 11th, so
I think it was before you joined up, but it was
like, no, I think we already recorded... I don't
know, whatever. So, this is called A Fun Show
for Toy Collectors, especially Transformers Collectors
by... Optimus 997. I was looking for a podcast
that deals strictly with talking Transformers
toys, and this one fits the bill nicely. I did
like it more when they only dealt with Transformers,
but the host does a nice job finding guests to
talk at length about the toys on their shelves.
It can get a bit meandering at times, but it's
fun to listen to. And the hosts and guests reconcile
their differing opinions, which happens often.
Any Transformers fan should give it a try. Yes,
and I've said this before on the show, we all
have interests other than Transformers. Of course,
yeah. And I mean, by the time way back when Episode
25 hit, I was like, well, why don't we expand
it? Because I'm sure not everyone just has a
Transformers collection. Well, in the case of
Protoman, he has everything, but... You know,
it's just one of those things where, you know,
I wanted to talk about different toys, and especially
with me finding out a certain thing that Mattel
is doing, or has been doing. So yeah, a lot of
my discussions in the next few episodes are going
to be about one specific Mattel property, and
I know Octobotamus is over there cringing. It's
not as bad now. The old adage that time heals
all wounds is appropriate and it's very true
and I'm slowly coming around and I'm assuming
you're referring to the Masters of the Universe
Classics line. Of course. Of course. Of course.
It's one of those things where I have a love
-hate relationship. I love the figures. But you
hate Maddie Collector. It goes a little bit further
than just a disdain for Maddie Collector. Part
of the biggest problem that I think that Maddie
Collector has is the fact that they are partnered
with Digital River. Digital River is their company
that processes all their orders, ships all their
orders, maintains their website, all of this
stuff. And it does their customer service, everything.
It's really so incredibly subpar to me. It's
pathetic. It's atrocious. And I'm not the only
one who thinks this. I mean, it's just a terribly
run website. And because of that, it affects
the line itself. The figures are fantastic. I've
never shied away from how much I love the way
these figures look. It's just getting them is
such a pain in the arse that it's almost unbearable
and you almost don't want to bother collecting
the figures at all because the headache isn't
worth it. Yeah part about it, you know and I've
said since you and obviously spade is not with
us today But since you and spade had joined up
when we've kind of briefly talked about this
in the past, you know, and that's why I've said
I Will never try to go through Meta collector.
I will always buy third party through BBTS And
you know, they're not a show sponsor. So I mean
but but but I mean still it's one of those things
where It's available on BBTS for the most part
like every figure that I want now outside of
like say reissue He -Man and and and Tila and
man -at -arms Every figure is in stock. Of course,
I can't buy anything or any any of them at the
present time because the bills and all that You
know bills come first, but at least they're there,
you know And you know when the whole situation
happened with the battle cat which if anybody's
curious about that without getting too in -depth
I mean They can go watch my video on battle cat
and get the whole story in you know in a much
more grandiose Fashion that I'll be able to explain
now Especially with the appearance of the real
battle cat It's it's a very delicate situation
I don't like I don't like you know I mean I am
going to start reviewing them that's one of the
big things that I kind of announced on Twitter
this past week that I'm going to go I'm going
to start reviewing them and I actually shot and
filmed my orco and Prince Adam and whiplash reviews
I got to edit them all together and they probably
won't appear on my channel for a little while
Mostly because I want to get closer to the 2011
subscription before they start coming out because
that's what the 2011 subscription is what I think
fixes a lot of the problems That were inherent
with the digital River Maddie collector experience
but One of the biggest problems is if you wanted
these figures you had to go to a secondary market
You had to go to eBay. You had to go to big bad
toy store various websites like that that would
carry them but there's an overhead and I understand
the nature of the overhead I mean you buy the
I mean now if I were to do it I mean Big Bad
Toy Store they got to buy the figure the figures
are $20 they have to have them shipped to them
as well which is another $10 so there's $30 of
overhead right there they have to charge their
customers at least $30 otherwise they're losing
money so I understand that and it makes sense
And I think they charge, I don't even think it's
that much. I think they charge around $34 to
$35 for some of their figures. The reissues,
like reissue Merman, reissue Count Marzo, all
the reissues on BBTS are, for the majority of
them, they're between $34 and $44 .99. Yeah,
so I mean, it's not too terribly much of a markup.
No. And the markup that is there, it's between
five and $10 a markup. And I understand that.
I have my own business as well. I understand
the whole markup thing. And they're not getting
these figures at a substantial discount where
they don't have to mark up the figures that much.
They're getting them more than likely the same
way we are. It's not too different. It just always
was a bad business sense in my mind for Mattel
to basically force all of their fans that essentially
got screwed and weren't able to get any of the
figures, force them to go to somewhere else and
buy these figures for a more substantial amount
than what they would get. I mean, money's tight
for a lot of people right now. And while, I mean,
that being said, if money is tight, you probably
shouldn't be buying toys with the money that
you do have, but in hindsight, if you have the
money and if you want to collect these things,
and even still, even if you don't, say money's
tight right now, but you know next month money's
not gonna be tight, so you want to wait till
next month to buy these figures, you can't, because
Mattel's all sold out of them, and if you want
to buy them, you have to go to eBay and you have
to pay twice. what they're worth. So it's tough
for me to say that it's a good system, and for
the longest time, it was tough for me to recommend
them. So I basically stopped. Yeah. I think with,
you know, and you had said to me, well, why not
just get the new subscription for 2011? And at
the time, I'm like, because I added it up for
like 20 figures. It's like Four hundred and seventy
dollars total. I mean, of course you pay you
pay that over time You know you they charge you
each time a new figure comes out. It's not like
you have to pay four hundred and seventy dollars
up front But it's still four hundred and seventy
dollars for 20 figures. I don't know that just
Maybe it's maybe the math isn't isn't equaling
out in my head, but that just doesn't sound Like
a good deal to me and like I said to you on Twitter.
Oh god month, month and a half ago, whatever,
I don't know, I don't even know when that conversation
happened. You know, all the figures that I want
are already out. So I don't mind having, I mean
eBay, screw eBay, I'm not going to friggin' eBay.
You know, Big Bad Toy Store has them in, you
know, for the majority of the ones that I want,
they have them in stock. And when I have some
extra money, sure, if it's in stock, I'll go
get it. But am I gonna go try to go out of my
way to find it now if I don't have the money?
No. Right. And that makes sense. That makes sense.
Like last month, I was torn between, and I know
this is horrible, but I was torn between SD...
Now, I don't think the non -color change version
of Orko and with Adam is turned an SDCC exclusive,
but that's what Big Bad Toy Store has it listed
as. I know the color change version is, but I
don't know anyways. So when I went to BBTS last
month, in August, I looked at two different things.
I looked at the Sons of Cybertron animated two
-pack, and I looked at the Adam and Orko. and
their $10 difference. The Sons of Cybertron animated
set was $54 .99, Adam and Arko were, or Arko
and Adam, or $44 .99. So I'm like, okay, well,
you know, I've got to really watch, you know,
I can buy at least one thing between that price
point, but I really have to watch, you know,
can't go overboard. So I chose Adam and Arko
because yeah, Adora was getting lonely. Her big
brother oh boy Don't pervert that hey, you're
the one that perverted it with he made an adora
in your video so Just because I had them that
close you're the one that did it not me uh...
now you had mentioned something off their uh...
when when i was actually waiting for you to get
off the phone uh... about how you know no let
me finish about how you don't collect toys like
you don't really care about the packaging now
for me i i'm kind of the same way. I think the
only boxes I've actually saved are the Mighty
Mug boxes because, I mean, those are fairly easy
to save. You don't have to rip those apart to
get them open. Now, for me, when I get more of
the Masters figures, I will be buying two of
them, but I will have them as... I will have
the ones that I keep in the packages as display
pieces. Like nailed up on your wall. Yeah, kind
of. Yeah, I mean that's fine. It's a big controversy
for some reason that some collectors keep them
in the box, some of them don't. I have no problem
with anybody that does. I mean a lot of times
the packaging on some of these things are fantastic
looking and you almost don't want to open them
up. I'm really the type of collector that does
not collect frivolous items. I don't just go
out and buy random things. If I have it, it's
because I genuinely like what I'm buying. That
being said, I do like what I'm buying and I don't
have the intention of turning around and selling
them. So, for that purpose alone, I don't keep
them in the box. I open them up, they go on my
shelf, they get played with, and that's really
it. Now, that's not to say that I don't keep
some boxes. My office shelf, the top shelf, is
just filled with boxes of Transformers that do
have some kind of a meaning to me. A lot of the
Encore boxes, I keep all the Encore boxes that
I get. You mean the book boxes? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
you know or you know, I mean, you know some of
the reissues like for example when I got the
encore skylinks I got that box up there because
that box actually has a meaning to me You know
the Metroplex box that's up there not too terribly
long ago Ben or Pia sold me the I always get
the name wrong It's from God master the the power
convoy got Jinrai or something like that. It's
the Power Master Optimus Prime is what it is.
It comes with the extra blue cab thing. When
Ben sold me that, he had the box with it and
I kept that box. So there's a few things that
in terms of boxes, I do keep the boxes but...
Obviously, if they're on blister cards, those
things get destroyed when I open them up. The
packaging for the Encore figures, boxes like
that, where all I have to do is slit a piece
of tape and then slide the figure out, those
boxes are a lot easier to keep than, say, the
blister cards. There are some that I do keep.
Yeah, I gotta say, when it comes to, I mean,
I've only gotten, well, you sent me a Dora, thank
you very much, and I bought Orko with Adam, but
I gotta say, Hasbro needs to take a talking two
with Mattel because Mattel's inserts and their
packaging is a hell of a lot easier to get figures
out of than Hasbro. That's very true. That's
very true. And I think that that is one of the
reasons probably why, like I know back in the
day, you know, people would just, you know, remove
or switch around toys and toy stores and stuff
like that in different packages. But I think
that's one of the reasons why you don't see Masters
in Toys R Us or Target or Walmart, that it's
only online because of the way that they're packaged,
because I mean... Anybody could rip that blister
card open and just and just take a figure out
of the thing I mean, it's like a little flimsy
piece of clear not even plastic, but it's like
a clear rubber band almost Yeah, kind of like
an elastic thing. I will say that in some of
the figures now you you have Adam you have orko
I'm trying to even think I don't remember how
adora was there are some figures that are really
tough to get out of that plastic insert. After
you get through the blister and you pull the
card off and there's a little plastic mold that
surrounds, there are some figures that are tough.
A lot of the ones that come with capes are very
tough to get out because they loop the cape through
the plastic. pulling to get that out. Adora was
fairly easy. She just had stuff like around her
legs and her hands and her chest. Right. Or the
front of the torso around the neck. Orko and
Adam. Orko wasn't that hard because all I did
was I took the back of the blister and just took
my thumb and just pushed Orko from the blister
all the way out. Adam was a nightmare. The reason
why Adam was a nightmare to get out of the package
was because you know a dumb lazy Adam He's laying
down in the package So they and that's why orcos
card is so big because they have this fully articulated
Adam in the bottom of the box That's that's what
I was I was when I first got that when I first
got him now I buy him from a friend of mine who's
on he man .org and sells him to me for Essentially,
essentially the cost of it, the cost of the figure
push, you know, I mean, and you know, and there's
a little bit of a markup. I mean, like I said,
I mean, I paid, I paid $30, I think it was for
my whiplash and I paid 35 for Oracle. And when
I got the box and I took them out, I'm looking
at them, I'm like, why is Oracle's box so much
bigger? So I met you not notice. Did you not
see any reviews of him beforehand? I Did but
it was one of those things where I mean attention
to like pixel Dan. I don't watch a lot of his
stuff Okay, well, that's fun. We're not gonna
get on that whole time I mean, I just I mean
for whatever reason I mean, I didn't see it so
I didn't know that there was gonna be a huge
box difference You know in terms of the white
mailer. I'm staring at the white mailer and I'm
like Did it I'm like what is why is this so big
and I? Messaged JT Mitchell 87 from YouTube and
because I know he got him he reviewed him on
I watched that one But I don't remember the box
being that I'm like dude was your box that big
he's like I don't remember it being that big
and He's like no, you know now come to think
of it. Yeah, I guess it was kind of that big
I'm like why the hell is it so big and then I'm
thinking I'm like Well, because they had to put
Adam at the bottom, and he's like a seven -inch
figure. Yeah. So he wanted to fit, they wanted,
it wanted to work in a normal, one of their normal
blister cards. No, it wasn't. I'm like, okay,
I'm like, that makes sense. But at first, I was
confused, I didn't know. Yeah, um... I'm trying
to see if there's a because I've got the two
of them I've got Adam and Adora here And I'm
just looking at them like face to face here.
I'm trying to see how much of a difference is
I think they're both 7 -inch figures oh yeah,
I mean the I mean there's no difference between
the The female figures in terms of the size which
some people have complained about because they
say that the female figure should be a little
bit shorter but I mean, because in terms of the
female figures, we've gotten Tila, Goddess, Adora,
the Green Goddess. Who else have we gotten? Tila.
Tila and Evelyn. There's four female figures.
Evelyn, Tila, the Green Goddess, and Adora. If
you had Adora have shorter hair, a shorter hair
sculpt, She would be her hair makes her look
taller than Adam Really is what it is and that
whole heel thing on her boot because I've got
them back -to -back now And I'm looking at them
and yeah Adora's heads about a half inch taller
than She would be shorter. Yeah, she was flat
-footed She'd be shorter, but the whole thing
with the female characters or the female figures
is that they want the heels on them, right? Yeah,
whatever. You know, one thing that my girlfriend
is a big She -Ra fan. Uh -oh, here we go. Big,
I mean, well, she liked T -Man too, but I mean,
naturally, I mean, she's a girl, so she's gonna
like She -Ra a little bit more, and she liked
the Princess Apollo and all that stuff. And one
thing that she said that, you know, speaking
of the female figures, and I do really have to
give credit to Mattel and the Four Horsemen for
this. is that the female toys really come across
much more powerful and not as girly as the vintage
figures. The vintage figures were really kind
of... What did my girlfriend say? That these
new figures give a much more real life look to
how women actually look in real life. Well, the
thing about the classics figures, and again,
the only thing I can use as reference is Adora,
obviously, because she's the only one I have.
But from what I've seen of reviews and what I've
seen of pictures, the thing about the Masters
Classics female figures is that they are more
action figure. They're more of an action figure,
whereas the old vintage stuff was dolls. Were
dolls, yeah. But you also got to remember, you
know, back then that... You know, Barbie and
all the female toys that came out had this image,
this perfect image of how women should kind of
look. Very skinny, big boobs, slender, perfect
looking. That was the image of a female back
in the day. It's, you know, and my girlfriend's
point was that these figures now, they're more
well -rounded. I mean, you know, you look at
Adora, you look at all these female, the classic
figures, they have hips. Yeah, you know back
in the 80s girl toys did not have hips. I mean
they were just Sticks they were big boobs, and
they were slender Yeah, and that's you know I
mean and even Mattel has changed the way that
their Barbie dolls have looked yeah, so It's
you know it was nice that they're you know changing
this and putting them into a more like you said
a more action figure look isn't a unrealistic
portrayal of how women Look in today's society.
I mean, I mean and it's still not really all
that accurate because you know, they're you know
more chunky women around then You know skinny
athletic women, but it's nice to see that they're
not Carrying on that barbaric thought process
of how women should look, right? I think they've
done a fantastic job with that. Yeah kudos to
the four horsemen. Yes very much so um So I guess
that's been the discussion topic. I mean, I don't
know, you want anything to say anything else
about Masters in general or anything about, you
know, packaging? And like I said for me, you
know, I agree with you about, you know, most
of the time blister cards get torn to crap, but
at the same time, why I like buying two of everything
that I, you know, and it's stuff that I like.
I don't just go out and buy two of everything
just to have it. Right no, I don't do that, but
I mean with with masters when I do go back And
I do buy you know say to reissue Skeletor's or
to you know Reissue he man's or whatever one
of them is getting open and put in the display
and seeing is how I have had for the past 20
25 some odd years. I've had the original Castle
Grayskull. It's not complete, but I still have
it they look Huh, it's still there. You got the
best part of it Yeah, yeah. These figures, these
Masters figures look so great next to it. They
just do. They really do, and it's been a long
time hope of mine that they will eventually,
somehow, someway, come out with a way that they
can make a more updated and new Castle Grayskull.
more classic version of it and It would be huge
Because that you know the vintage figures are
like five inches these ones the new ones are
like I Don't know. I mean we kind of decided
that they're like seven inch so Grayscale, I
mean Castle Grayscale would be huge, but I would
love to have a new one of those Well, I mean
this one is the original vintage one that I have
it's I would say a foot and a half tall Maybe
that and adora comes up to just like the the
top tooth of of where the jaw bridge is As far
as her head Adam Comes up to and of course, you
can't really compare or go unless he has a stand
Adam comes up to about the same place So, I mean,
you know what? At SDCC this year. They had the
the diorama with all the figures and they had
a version of the 02 Castle Grayskull and I know
it's not real and I know we're never probably
gonna get it, it's just a diorama but oh my god,
that would be so cool if they put that out. Now
I heard a rumor, actually it wasn't really a
rumor, something Pixel Dan posted on Twitter.
Apparently Mattel is no longer doing, is canceling
the 2002 influence for the line. Yeah, I've heard
that as well and You know, I think what they're
canceling is that they're not going to do any
more 2002 characters. Well, see, that would kind
of suck because I think that we should get some
sort of 2000, like a combination between 2002
and vintage stink -or for a figure. You I mean
that's that's Yeah, I mean Yeah, I can really
see I mean all I mean all you really have to
do is repaint merman But but yeah, I mean but
I mean that that's one of those characters where
he existed in the vintage line I think more so
you're looking at like what's the new one that
comes out next month carnivorous or something
like that? Yeah chief carnivorous I don't remember
ever hearing about him in the original cartoon.
No, he wasn't in there. It was a thing that was
introduced in the 02 cartoon. Right, so that's
a character that I don't think would be created.
Keldor is a character that I don't think would
have gotten created. I think that's the kind
of stuff that they're referring to. Yeah. I still
think they're going to go to the 2002 series
To kind of update certain characters, so I think
stink or would be a figure that would probably
still work You know things like that I don't
necessarily I don't I don't I'm not exactly sure
what he meant, but We'll see I don't know I mean
I hope that we get some sort of and I mean granted
We have the vintage he man in classics and all
that but I would like to see And you kind of
mentioned this a while ago to me when Orko with
Adam was first announced. I would kind of like
to see an 02 Classics version of Adam. Absolutely.
I would absolutely love that. That was one thing
that always kind of bugged me. I mean, it was
one of those things where it always seemed kind
of goofy, even when I was young. my thought process
as a child was evolved or something of that nature,
because I would sit there and watch things like
He -Man and say, how can people not see that
He -Man and Adam look the exact same? I mean,
you just change the clothes out. I mean, I don't
understand that. Or you can look at Clark Kent
and you can't see that that's Superman? I mean,
it was things like that that just really kind
of confused me as a child. I think for me, the
issue I took with the O2 cartoon really, like
in the beginning it was fine. The transformation
like the first season, it's basically Adam taking
the sword out, saying the words, and it's like
a lightning bolt and all of a sudden he's He
-Man. In the later seasons, like season two and
part of season three or, you know, the end of,
I don't know, it was only 40 episodes, so I guess
it was just two seasons, but I mean, in season
two later on, once like the snake men come in,
there's a whole new transformation once we learn
about, you know, King Grayskull and all that.
The new transformation shows Adam growing into
being human and to me the first thing i thought
was all well they're teaching kids that you know
you hold a magic sort of you get hit by lightning
and all of a sudden you're taking steroids. Is
it just if you go back and you look at like some
of the when he got the the human of the north
armor and all that stuff in that cartoon if you
look at some of the transformations in season
two or the any of the transformations in season
two you see his skin physically grow. And I just,
I don't like that. It just, it reminds me of,
you know, just, I don't know, it's just weird.
It's just, I don't know, some reason I, I don't
know. The visual aspect of it was not very good.
I like the concept of having Adam being a scrawny
small guy who, because of the power that's instilled
into him, becomes bigger. But I don't think they
needed to show it. And I mean, if they went to
the transformation sequence, if they kept the
transformation sequence that they used in the
first season, I would have been fine with that.
But you're right. I mean, with the growing and
you see his arms just grow, it really reminded
me of an incredible, from the old television
series of Incredible Hulk, where you see it and
the shirt rips. That's what it really kind of
reminded me of and I didn't care for it too much.
I like the concept that he's small and then he
gets big. That works. And I would really like
a Prince Adam in the 2002 style. But yeah, the
visual aesthetic of watching him morph into a
big giant, you know, he -man. was really kind
of awkward looking. Yes. And I'm sorry? I actually
love the 2002 series, the cartoon series now
that I've actually I own it and I've watched
the whole thing all the way through. I love a
lot of stuff that they did in the cartoon series,
but that power sword, that's not a power sword.
It's a very mechanical kind of weirdness to it,
but I mean, I don't think it's bad. I don't think
it's horrible, but just coming off of the original
power, I would much rather like if they ever
made a replica of any of the He -Man swords,
I would much want a 80s original version of it
than the 2002 version. Yeah. No, I mean, I agree.
The man -at -arms figure came with a 2002 power
sword. And I like it. It's nice. And I actually
have it displayed with my battle armor He -Man.
Because for some reason, from the classic, for
some reason the Master of the Universe classic
battle armor He -Man doesn't come with a sword.
It comes with the shield and his battleaxe and
that's it So I'm like that just seems weird Really?
I have what that I said, oh really? Yeah, it's
weird. I don't understand it. But uh, so I mean
I have my battle armor he man displayed with
with the powers with the 2002 power sword just
because it seems Battle ready. It just seems
more hyped up and that's how I always perceived
battle armor. He man. I mean he's I think the
reason why he never came with a power sword in
the classics line is because I don't think he
came with a power sword in the vintage line.
He just came with the axe in the vintage line.
That's possible, but I don't know for sure. I
just think it's stupid because the whole premise
of the armor showing up, the armor is created
by the power sword. That's how they explain it.
I think on the bat on the blister card itself
on the back of a battle armor He -Man's blister
card that the sword Brings this, you know this
extra armor to him, right? I'm like, okay that
that's cool. That makes sense, but the toy doesn't
have a sword to do that with It just seemed like
a complete like missed point and the other use
you have for the power sword is opening the packages
I do I do do that quite a lot and it really pisses
people off hey I actually couldn't I actually
didn't have it like I said I mean I have it displayed
with the He -Man figure now so I didn't have
it handy when I was opening up the white mailer
boxes for Oracle and whiplash so people might
be a little disappointed I wish Hasbro would
do white mailers i know that's mattel's thing
and all that but i love those things they're
nice but i mean i i'm hasbro doesn't do a lot
of uh collector based figures yeah that's true
so that's i mean i think that's part of the biggest
problem and then the ones that they do do are
usually done by takara yeah and takara puts out
pretty nice packaging general I mean I'm thinking
of the masterpiece figures for example oh yeah
I mean those are definitely nice boxes I was
looking I was actually looking at the Takara
release of Rodimus minor from animated and the
packaging for that looks it's just a regular
blister card but the art on it is so much nicer
now is he different colors than the US version?
Kind of got he's kind of got a shiny look to
him and he almost almost comes across looking
like he's purple I know why that is I think it
was Proto Man that told me this or somebody somebody
mentioned this on Twitter somewhere. I don't
know it's because They're making him The Rodimus
Prime colors from season 3 Okay, we all know
how you feel on that then. Alrighty then. So
what toy, actually no, you don't get a choice.
You have to talk about Reissue He -Man. Reissue
He -Man. If you missed out on the first figure,
the first release of the Master of the Universe
Classic He -Man, the Reissue one really does
do a good job of replacing it. If you missed
out on it You're not you're not missing out on
much because they fixed a lot of problems that
were inherent with the first release such as
for some reason they assembled him wrong or Well,
they well, yeah, they assembled them wrong and
they gave him like two right shoulders Which
just looked weird the striations in the muscles
on his shoulders were all going the same way
and they shouldn't and it just kind of really
Looked weird and he also had a lot of reddish
paint around his eyes, so he kind of looked like
he was stoned a lot. It wasn't, you know, nothing
too terribly bad, but the re -issue came along
and really fixed a lot of the problems. They
fixed the shoulder issue, so now the shoulder
looks good, they repainted his face, his face
looks good, and one of the other minor things
that they did in anticipation of releasing the
Battle Cat figure was they redid the material
that was used to make the loin cloth on the reissue
He -Man. It's more of a softer rubber now allowing
for easier fit into the saddle for Battle Cat,
which is much nicer. The figure in general is
just overall a better looking figure to the point
where you almost don't, I mean, you don't really
need the original, the first one. They improved
it and the reissue one in my mind should be the
definitive version that fans get. Yeah, I'm looking
here on Big Bad Toy Store because it's the only
place I can see an actual decent image of him
And they're in the reissue one look does he come
he comes with two power swords doesn't he comes
with a full and a half? He comes with everything
that the original one did yeah, he comes with
a half power sword He comes with a full power
sword comes with his battle axe and a shield
right And I mean everything the only real difference
is a couple of the paint apps and like I was
saying You know with the shoulder and then of
course on the packaging it has the original The
original which I've even said in my reviews is
I I know it's it You know, I know it's an homage
to how they did the the re -releases of the figures
back in the vintage line But today That's stupid.
I think it's terrible. You put the original on
there And it makes it sound like it's the very
first one. And if people go on eBay and buy these,
and if they don't know any better, they're going
to see the original and think it's, well, the
original, which says it's the first one. See,
I respect that you don't like it and you think
it's stupid, but I disagree with you because
when I saw... How dare you disagree with me?
When I... Saw the package when I saw your review
of him. When I saw the packaging, I'm like, oh,
well, they mean it's the original He -Man from
the 80s cartoon. Maybe they'll put out a 2002
He -Man. That's the way I take it. But that's
not how it, that's not, because every reissue
has the original stamp on it. Oh. So so I understand
what you're saying and if that were the case
I would completely endorse that whole thing But
every reissue that comes out has the original
stamped onto it so the so this past month we
got the the re -release of Crapjaw. His had the
original on it so That's my biggest concern and
problem that I have with it Us collectors know,
but somebody else who's just now getting into
the line may not necessarily know that. And that's
what kind of bugs me about some of the stuff
they did. They did something similar to that
with the San Diego Comic Con release of the Ghostbuster
Egon figure, where they had this really nice
resealable package. And everybody hyped it up
and was like, oh, this is so nice. You can swap
it out. You can have it be, you know, Mint on
card or you can have it outside and keep the
box and you can swap it out I'm like, yeah or
if somebody really wanted to they could open
it up play with it then put the put the thing
back in the box and sell it on eBay as Mint on
card still and charge more because it's no long.
It's not loose Yeah, that's kind of silly and
stupid, you know, so I have a question about
very clearly. Yeah, I have a question about the
he -man figure I'm looking at the only picture
the only other picture because they Hasbro BBTS
shows a front image in a back image I'm looking
at the back image and it shows his axe in the
holster Does his sword fit in the holster that's
on his back? The axe and the sword both do yep
Okay, I wasn't sure because they only show the
axe because the swords obviously in his hand
in this image so They both do and actually until
I got actually I might still have it like that
I'm trying to remember um On my shelf and actually
I got to do my um, what's on Omtoponomus's shelf.
I yeah, I still have to record that new thing
The uh The battleaxe I had him holding a sword
in the battleaxe. I have slotted through that
holster on his back. Mm -hmm So, um, it's pretty
I like it. Yeah, that was very very cool. I will
be talking about Classics Adora. This is the
first Adora figure we have ever gotten and big
thanks to to Optobotamus here for sending her
to me at the the argument of his girlfriend.
But very very cool. I think my only complaint
about her is she's extremely bow -legged. That
and that's Unfortunately, I mean that's that's
common with all of them. Is it really? Yeah,
I mean if you look at my review I mean, it's
not as pronounced on mine, but you can see it.
There's some bowleggedness going on. Yeah The
only other complaint I really have and I was
talking to you off air about this I like how
she has the holster for the sword however Why
did they have to cut a hole in the plastic of
her back? Because I can literally see the white
part of her back behind here. Under her shirt.
Yeah, yeah. No sports bra there. That's a super
sports bra. What are you talking about? It's
the most powerful sports bra in the universe.
Good reference, sir. Good job She is extremely
awesome and you know again, thank you for for
sending her to me cuz yeah, but yeah her sword
I don't know I had to bend it a little bit to
get it out of the package. I think that's the
only problem I had with her packaging. And then
the sword is, because it's thinner and it's slimmer
than the other He -Man swords, it bends very,
very easily if you're not careful with it. That
was one of the controversies actually about Adora
herself was that the the sword was not the same
size as He -Man's sword. And they're supposedly,
you know, in the storyline, they are supposed
to be clones of one another. The only difference
being that hers has the jewel in the center.
So a lot of people were a little up in arms that
Adora's sword is smaller than He -Man's or Prince
Adam's for that matter. Well, the thing about
The thing about Adora's sword, first of all,
look at her hands. Look how small her hands are.
Oh yeah. So, I seriously doubt, and I had a heart,
because I basically had to do the Transformers
animated RC method to get her sword in her hand.
Basically push it in from the top of her hand.
I couldn't push it in from the sides of her fingers.
So, you know, I think the thing is, is that they've
got these really small hands on her. So they
had to make a smaller hilt of a sword, and they
couldn't make it as large as, say, Adam's is.
That makes sense. Or He -Man's. I think it fits
her perfectly as far as the size. I don't know
why they made a gold one for She -Ra, though.
That makes no sense to me whatsoever. From my
understanding, and I don't have it, but the She
-Ra figure that came out initially way back in
the day, It was gold. Yeah, it's an homage to
the gold sword. Yeah, but it's still stupid if
you ask me. Yeah, it pretty much is. I don't
get it, but what are you gonna do? Oh man. I
do like the fact that she comes with her blaster
to signify that she was Force Captain Adora.
The blaster is extremely articulated. I do agree
with both you and JT Mitchell where you guys
said in your reviews that you wish that the belt
was front ways with the buckle matching her molded
on belt that she has on her. But, I don't know.
Well, whatever. There's not much we can do about
it other than just turn it around. Right, exactly.
That's all you can do. Yup. And the face sculpt
on her is just amazing. I think that was the
first time in my review I referred to it as gorgeous.
And a lot of people thought that was weird and
awkward. But whatever. My book's Hillary, damn
it, I'll use it how I want. I agree, I agree.
That just made it a whole lot more... The point
of rooted hair is that it makes it doll -worthy.
And if you have sculpted hair like these, like
all of the Master's classics do, it makes it
more action -figury, I guess you could say. That's
a good way of looking at it. Yeah. And I don't
know if it's... I don't know. It's kind of weird.
She has, like... I know quality control on different
figures is all the same, but on mine, she can
bobble, like, side to side. You know the female
the female figure for that have really bad head
joints every single one of them The only thing
that helps them is the molded hair which kind
of keeps it Not as bobblehead II. Yep You know,
that's that's all it is, but every single female
figure so far has had that problem Yeah, yeah
Yeah, what are you gonna do? uh... so yeah i
i think that's about it for for for this episode
i mean i really don't have too much else to say
about her uh... she's just an amazing amazing
figure get her it can yeah see this see that's
the problem we really can't like we can say you
know you need to find this figure but at this
point Your only resource is eBay because even
BBTS is sold out of her. I think I found before
you agreed to or told me that you would send
her to me, I think I found one on Amazon for
like $38 .99. Not too bad of a price. No, it's
not too bad of a price at all. But I think that's
the only place I've found and I won't, I don't
do eBay anymore. I just don't. Yeah. So yes.
What else do we want to talk about? Anything?
No. You've pretty much picked my brain. Yes.
Join us next episode where Prince Adam and Cringer
will be making an appearance. Adam! That's actually
a fairly good impression for Cringer. Yeah, that's
my, I've been working on it. That's all I can
say. I can't say anything else. I just say, Adam!
You know, it's one of those things when I first
got these figures, really quick before, when
I first got them, when you first sent me her
and then when I got Orko and Adam in, and I put
them with Grayskull, because obviously my Grayskull
was sitting in the corner until now, but you
know, because they were, you know, outside of
some random really old you know paint faded ninja
turtles grayskull really didn't have a purpose
in my collection yeah um ever since i've got
these and i've got them on display it's like
oh man i need to go back and get out uh secret
of the sword the dvd yeah it's we um my my girlfriend
has the first two seasons of she raw And the
secret of the sword is included on the first
season. So every now and then, we'll put it on
and we'll watch it. It's good fun. You said she
has the first two seasons, so she has season
two, volume one and volume two? Yes. So she's
got the full mural. See, I only have the He -Man
sets, and I'm glad that I've waited because She
-Ra is getting a 25th anniversary complete series
treatment. Yeah. Son of a bitch. The only thing
is, there's no mural. I mean, if you're into
the whole mural thing. Yeah. But yeah, she's
getting a 25th anniversary DVD release to her.
So I'm glad I waited. I'm a little annoyed that
I didn't. That's kind of funny. I don't know
what we need to do. Yeah, you know, you're talking
a little bit about the size difference of the
swords. I'm gonna link you to a picture that
I have on photo bucket. I actually took a screen
cap of the two swords when they're holstered.
The image of where He -Man's in the tractor beam
thingamajigger. Ooh. Tractor beam thingamajigger.
Let's look at the tractor beam thingamajigger.
Supposed to be looking at the swords, dammit.
Oh. Yeah, you know what? It does look smaller.
See? Interesting. Yeah. I mean, so the... So
the fact that the sword... Now I'm being nosy
and I'm seeing what you have all on your desktop.
That's an old picture. That's actually from my
old computer. Alright, so thank you for joining

Right now, I'm... I'm working on a couple, I
actually got a lot of stuff because my girlfriend,
she started school, she's a teacher and she went
back to school so I get a lot more free time
now and I'm trying to get through some of my
stuff. I got the two power core combiners, the
Superion or the aerial bots and the combaticons
I still gotta do. Or going Adam or going Adam
I got or going Adam and whiplash are recorded.
I just got to edit them I Still got to get my
g1 Metroplex done. I actually I have the the
new Voyager battle blades Optimus Prime from
the hunter Decepticons line that I'll probably
have that tomorrow shipped to me I Don't know
and then there's a bunch of older stuff Vintage
stuff that I'm working on getting there. There's
a for anybody. I'm just real quick for anybody
in the LA area We're having this big meetup October
3rd from anybody that's on TFW 2005 We're getting
together and I'm gonna there's a bunch of stuff
that I'm trying to buy from that so Busy busy
busy a lot a lot of stuff and I actually kind
of decided that I'm going to start trying to
get more early figures because people seem to
like those. And I thought, like, eh, I haven't
done those in a while. Maybe I'll try doing some
of those. So that's that's about it for me. Yes.
The life of a busy YouTube reviewer. World famous.
World famous. Yeah. I know. We'll pretend. Well,
at least U .S. famous, I guess. Yeah. There you
go. We hope you enjoyed this episode of Toycast.
I wish you would join us next time. For now,
I am TFJU and Mike with Optibotamus. Thank you
for listening, and until next time. Oh, shit.
Good thing I still have the recording going.
We forgot to talk about the new theme song. It's
been three or four or five episodes. Have you
had a chance to listen to any of this yet? I
have, yes, and it sounds really good. Yeah, um,
really quick before we actually leave, even though
we're not gone yet, um, I was going, I don't
know, I've had a lot of nostalgia stuff going
on and I've just, I've watched TFTM, Transformers
the movie, I don't know, like four or five times
in the past three and a half weeks. Good Lord,
man. Shut up, it's a good movie. Okay. I don't
know. I just I've just felt nostalgia and it's
really I haven't watched the actual movie that
time But I'm just going through all the DVD stuff
on the 20th anniversary DVD I think I've watched
the movie itself like twice in the past two or
three weeks You know Not to cut you off, but
you're not in bad company because for some reason
I've been watching season three from my Matrix
DVD set. I've been watching season 3 the past
two, three nights. Yeah. I haven't gotten up
to season 3 yet. I'm still in season 1 on the
Matrix set. But I was going through the movie
and I was going through the features and there's
a special feature on the 25th, or not 25th, the
20th anniversary DVD called The Death of Optimus
Prime. And it's, you know, it begins and they
show a montage of all Optimus's scenes in the
film and they have this really, really cool,
anthematic rock music that plays over those images.
And then it cuts to like Flint Dilley and Sue
Blue and Nelson Shin and they're all talking
about, you know, the death of Prime and they
didn't know and, you know, all this and all that.
And I really, really liked that anthematic rock
music. I thought it was really, really cool.
So I asked my buddy, Steve Megatron, who is the
co -creator of GeekCast Radio Network, I said,
hey, can you take this, put it with the optimist
asking Cliff Jumper to do the countdown, put
the music, and then use your Beast Wars Megatron
voice to introduce whoever the co -hosts are
going to be. And he's like, yeah, sure. So we
have, like, I don't know. Oh shit. Nine different
versions of this. It's the same theme, but it's
just him saying like myself and you or myself,
you and Spader or myself and Proto Man and whoever
else. But yeah, I mean, it's basically a custom
theme even though we've taken that music riff
and I just love it. It brings you into the podcast,
I think. You're absolutely right. The park it
needed something like that. Yeah, you know when
I originally started the thing when I originally
started this show I Originally mashed up Parts
of each of the US Transformers themes so I've
heard that yeah, yeah, sorry The biggest thing
that I problem I always had with it was that
it just seemed too long. Oh really Yeah, see
I took like a like I don't know like I don't
know two or three seconds from each one and the
main goal I had with that original theme was
to get the name obviously the G1 thing isn't
isn't gonna say the name because but they do
it you know more than meets the eye and all that
crap but like with the Beast Wars and the Beast
Machines I wanted to get the name on it and then
with the animated one I wanted to get the end
of it where it says transformers animated and
then it has the transforming sound But these
ones are like, I don't know, 50, they're between
like 48 and 55 or 59 seconds long. So it's not
too bad. It's under a minute for a theme. It
sounds good. Yes. I like it. You what? I like
it. You like it. Okay, so I guess if we have
Octobotomus' approval, everything goes well.
Yeah, the Octobotomus seal of approval has been
stamped. Yes. the intro for the podcast. Yes,
and now he just needs to go un -privatize all
of his Masters Classics videos. You know I gotta
work that into almost every show that you're
on, right? It's true, it's true, you do. It's
true, I understand. It's kind of like a reminder.
I understand, it makes sense. See you next time,
folks.
