About this Episode

TFG1Mike and Steve Phillips discuss two Mighty Muggs collectible figures: the classic red and yellow Iron Man and the highly detailed Cobra Commander with his detachable cape and cannon accessory. They talk about the design quality, display-piece nature of Mighty Muggs, and share their thoughts on other figures in the line they'd like to own, including the expensive SDCC exclusive movie Iron Man and various Transformers variants.

Five. Four. Three. Two. Tune in next week for

a much better episode. For now, though, courage.

Hello and welcome to the 41st episode of Toycast.

Sponsored by www .bigbadtoystore .com where you

can save from 20 to 90 % on over 1 ,000 items.

I'm your host, DFG1Mike, and today I'm joined,

returning from a 23 -episode break, is Steve

Megatron. Hello. Hello. How are you, sir? Doing

pretty well. Yes. I know this is Toycast, but

wow. This week, this episode actually probably

won't go out until after the second week of February,

maybe. I don't know. I'm trying to, even though

I keep recording them and getting a backlog,

I'm kind of like waiting to release them weekly.

Like normally I have you release them on Mondays.

but uh... not sure when this one's gonna go out

but as of this recording right now this is the

last week in january and this last week cannot

be fast -forwarded fast enough I have nothing

in my refrigerator I have nothing in my bank

account I don't know how often you guys use Papa

John's I know you work for Little Caesars but

Papa John's has this thing called Papa's Points

Order you accumulate points. It's kind of like

Best Buy's reward zone Well after you have 25

points you can get a free pizza Okay, so I am

so nice. I'm so desperate that I I paid $2 .50

for a pizza tonight Because I have nothing to

eat I have soda till Probably Monday when I get

paid, but anyway, yeah, so I don't know I'm like

getting a pizza for two bucks and or 250 Considering

it would have been like 14 something without

it. So anyways This is toy cast episode 41, I

think we're just gonna jump right into the toy

discussion I am going to be talking about Mighty

Mugs Iron Man I did a video for this thing and

I don't know why the video is not working on

YouTube. I'll have to look into that and find

out what the deal is. I don't know. Until I try

to play it, it messes up. I don't know if it's

YouTube or if it's my connection. I don't know.

But anyway, I have Iron Man here and it is the

classic red, yellow, black student Iron Man.

It's not the SDCC exclusive. Movie version of

Iron Man. It's his classic comics costume Something

I'd never noticed in the video for some odd reason

Like I can understand it with the Hulk Mighty

Mug, but not with this one the Hulk Mighty Mug

has Tit outlines like nipple outlines Wow on

the chest. Oh Iron Man has Tid outlines or nipple

outlines on his chest and I'm thinking wait This

isn't Batman Batman and Robin. There are no bat

nipples on these things. What the hell can you

iron ones? Yeah, really iron nipples, huh? Yes,

it does Leave it to me to figure that out. Anyways,

yes Overall, you know, there's really not that

much you can say about the Mighty Mugs because

I mean, you know, I've talked about a ton of

them already before, but I mean their heads move

360. He didn't come with any accessories. Actually,

I bought this at, this was my first time I went

to Toys R Us in a very long time, and his arms

feel very loose. And when I went to the Toys

R Us, I noticed something. Half the boxes for

almost all the Mighty Mugs I had in stock, they

didn't look too well. Again, the Mighty Mugs

are pretty much display pieces, so I'm not really

that bothered by the fact that his arms are extraordinarily

loose. I mean, hell, when I got Soundwave from

Big Bad Toy Store, as soon as I moved his head,

now you just touch Soundwave's head, you just

put your hand on top of his head, it just automatically

moves. You know, even if you just like pick him

up by the leg, Soundwave's head will automatically

move just from moving him too much or too fast.

Overall, it's a very cool design for Iron Man.

You know, I'm glad I have him. I do want the

SDCC version. It's much shinier, looks much cooler.

So yeah, that's pretty much all I have to say

about Iron Man. There isn't that much else to

say about him. Yes. Yes, and who are you going

to be talking about? Let me see, the one that

you got me, actually. It would be the Cobra Commander

Muddy Monk, which is actually pretty cool. It's

highly detailed in the sense of he has his cape

as an accessory, as well as his gun cannon. Yes.

Yes. And he has his metal faceplate. Was actually

very surprised with the cape because because

I've got when I told you earlier when we're off

here I said it'd be right back reason why I did

that was so I grabbed my Cobra commander I was

actually very surprised that he came with a detachable

cape Yeah, that's not something that We've seen

thus far Well the mighty monk series. Yeah, we

I kind of have a couple of times with I believe

Magneto is coming out, and he has the detachable

cape. I know Dr. Doom is out, and he has the

detachable cape. But at the time, you're right.

Yeah, when I first met him on Big Bad Toy Store,

it just shows him as being just the general mighty

mug body. It doesn't show him with the cape and

the image that BBTS has on their website. So

when I got it, I'm like, wait, why is there something

on the back of his neck? What in the hell? So,

why don't you give us your overall thoughts on

the Commander? Well, overall I'd have to say

that I'm pretty surprised by the fact that it

pretty much looks like the regular action figure

except for the fact that it's money mug style.

Very true to his likeness and his style as well

as his signature cape and The big head actually

kind of suits him very well because he did in

the series have a big head Yeah About everything.

Yeah But uh, yeah, I'd have to say that overall

he's He's one of my favorite mighty bugs that

I've seen Just in the sense that I like the character

too. It does look just like his 80s likeness

not the blasphemy that is the 2000s You know

the thing about muddy mugs, and I've said this

thousands of times on this podcast They are display

pieces. They are not meant to be played with

hell BBTS even lists pretty much every one of

them saying that it is for adults You know they're

not they're not activator figures. They're not

transformers animated activator figures. They

are you know, throwbacks to characters from when

they first came out or whatever. As far as the

oversized head, that's just the way they are.

I mean, I don't really see a problem with the

head on any of mine at all. I mean, yeah, sure,

it's a giant head. Whatever. But that's just

the style of the figure. You couldn't have these

without the giant head. It's just not possible.

No. But yeah, overall I'd say that it's a pretty

cool collectible in that. Yeah, you know, it's

funny when I was pricing them on BBTS, because

I was trying to figure out, okay, I already have

Cobra Commander. I'm not going to buy the Wave

1 set, which is Cobra Commander Duke. Storm Shadow

and Snake Eyes. I'm not going to buy the Wave

1 box set again and get a second Cobra Commander,

which I already have. Well, I found out on BBTS

I can buy Duke individually. I can buy the Wave

2 set, which is Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Baroness,

and Destro, and I'll have completed all the current

ones that they have released. It's only going

to cost me 62 bucks, which isn't bad. No. So

if you wanted to do the same thing to complete

your collection, I mean, $62 for five figures,

it's not bad. No, not really. And that's with,

when I did that, when I say $62, it was like

$62 .09 and that is the final price, including

the UPS three to seven day business shipping.

So yeah, it's not too bad at all. No, not at

all. I really, really enjoy these things. They're

just so cool. You know, people can rag on them

all you want, but, you know, it's just... There

isn't that much else, like, toy -wise, especially

Transformers -wise, there's nothing right now

that's coming out, so we don't even know what

the new toy line's gonna be. Yeah, we've seen

pictures of the War for Cybertron toys, but again...

Unless you have it in hand, you really can't.

You can only tell so much from a review, from

a YouTube review or something. Yeah, those I'm

going to hold my breath on, or not hold my breath

on and die, but I'm hoping that they are pretty

cool. You know, they look pretty cool. I'm more

anticipating the game than... Yeah, I'm not really

caring too much about the toys. I'm pretty psyched

about the game to see how it's going to look

and how it's going to play out. So what other

Mighty Mugs would you get if you wanted to get

one outside of the G .I. Joe stuff? Probably

just... I'm looking through... Probably I'd say

classic Iron Man. Yeah, that's the one. Or not

classic, the movie one. Oh, the SDCC one, yeah.

Problem with him is, though, everywhere I've

looked for him, he's $100 and up. Like on hasbrotoyshop

.com, he's $100. Mostly on Amazon, he's anywhere

from $129 .99 to $149 .99. That kind of sucks.

G1 Megatron, so much. He's pretty cool. Yeah,

so those are pretty much the... I'd get. Yeah,

I also got... In the mail I got Punisher, and

I got... When I went to the Toys R Us, the two

that I picked up was Iron Man and things, so

I'll be talking about those in future episodes.

I wish they'd come out with, like, a Batman one.

Yeah, but the thing is, though, Hasbro is the

one that does Mighty Mugs. It's a Hasbro license

thing. True. I mean, I know that people make

custom ones. I mean, you can search for, on YouTube,

you can search for custom videos, custom Mighty

Mug videos, and you see all these, I mean, because

they sell the blank black and white Mighty Mug.

Just you know pure blank ones where you can paint

you can actually you know create your own And

I've seen people do them very well, but as far

as official release. I seriously doubt Yeah,

I just noticed that all the marble ones are done

by What yeah Yes, I seriously doubt they'll do

a DC one yeah But at least we're getting new

marble ones coming eventually hopefully I don't

think, I'm sure it would probably be more Comic

Con and Bot Con, the announcement for different

new mugs, but hopefully at Bot Con this year

they will announce Prowl and Ironhide for the

Transformers Wave 4, because it is listed on

the wiki as to be determined Wave 4 of the Transformers

Mighty Mugs of Ironhide and Prowl, so that'd

be kind of cool. Yeah, that would be pretty neat

to see. I'd like to see uh... I just want more

of them. I don't see them everywhere, but I see

them all over the internet and stuff like that.

It's like, I must have them now. Because I've

seen the Venom one, the Venom one just looks

so evil. Because for some odd reason he's got...

Some of the Mighty Mugs really really shock me

with what they... put into them as far as what

they put into the budget for each one like, you

know, Cobra Commander Kate, Shockwave, G1 Shockwave

with his gun arm and the wire going from his

back to his arm. You know, some of the articulation

and stuff that are some of the detailing that

they put in these things is really, really cool.

The, what was it? I just lost my train of thought.

Oh, the SDCC 2009 exclusive Wolverine, which

is the one from, it's supposed to be from the

movie X -Men Origins, Wolverine. He has retractable

claws. There's two, there's a button on each

arm that you can push up and down and the claws

retract out of his hand. Nice. Which is pretty

cool. Do we have anything else we want to talk

about? This is an awfully short episode. I like

Batman figures. I don't know. I bought those.

I was telling you off there the other day on

the phone. I got those Justice League ones and

I'll probably just end up sending those to you

because they're just sitting in a little bin.

in the other room and they're not really doing

anything because I can't they have no stand -up

ability for the most part unless you're gonna

stand them up against something yeah I remember

that much about some of them but I used to have

the some of the comic book line and some of the

original Batman line as well as the animated

series years ago yeah Mean I'm sure some of the

more you know some of the figures nowadays are

gonna have more articulations and stuff, but

those ones those justice those DC superhero They

don't suck as far as design aesthetic they suck

as far as like I said stand -up ability because

Yeah, they can't stand up Yeah, but I don't think

they're ever meant to and you know I mean they

were meant to obviously but not To the extent

that we'd like They're meant to be tipped over

Wonder Woman's of Batman's cape Anyways Okay,

then everything else we want to cover on toy

gas I don't know Yes, I know it's awfully short.

I'd like to get my hands on the Justice League,

Batman Beyond, as well as the Old Man, Bruce

Wayne, eventually. Yeah, I don't know why I want

them so bad, but I don't know. I just think it'd

be cool. oh yes and uh... i made the video for

the iron man when i because i have the auto share

on for youtube so it posts to twitter and facebook

and uh... one of my friends on facebook sure

replied to my video and she goes i don't know

i said something about batman in the comments

or something or other i don't know iron man is

better he has guns and i said well all batman

has to do is give you a Dirty look and you run,

you know, you'll miss your pants. And then she

replied with, Iron Man has guns, like so. So

that never stopped him before. He went to get

Supernatural Beans and survived. Because he's

a badass. Yes, very much so. I think we're going

to bring this one to a close. Thank you for joining
