BotCon 2007 Toys Part 2: Alpha Trion, Springer, and Shattered Glass Optimus Prime

sir. Hey, guys. How you doing? And PR. Hello.

How are you? Hey, what's up? Not much. After

paying off my bills for the month, I actually

went on a eBay shopping trip. I'm familiar with

that. Sorry the trade paper back for the animated

movie CD soundtracks and DVDs that I need for

another podcast that I do But just on nemesis

prime just comparing him to chatter glass like

chatter glass as far as the truck mode goes I

noticed on shattered glass on the bumper It's

more air brush airbrushed with green in there

like the headlights and on nemesis. It's just

the gray Yeah. Nemesis looks great with the Shadow

Commander armor on though. Yeah, that's the other

issue I'm having right now. I want the Shadow

Commander armor. It's so, so funny. So what did

you guys get this week? Did you get anything,

Gary? Not really I found a mudflap with a mud

flap as a license plate, but I didn't really

get anything else kind of been a slow week What

about you been? I'm this week. Let's see. I got

I got my I finally got my fans project superior

on kit Which is awesome and I got I got the easy

Devastator which is actually really cool nice

And I should have my Human Alliance skids tomorrow

if things work out. Didn't something else in

the mail come for you? For me? Yeah. Something

from a celebrity, I believe. Oh, yeah. I got

those signed pictures from Mark Ryan. Those actually

came last Friday, but I guess technically that's

still in the last week. Yeah, that was pretty

awesome. Yeah, that was pretty cool. I didn't

do that. Yeah, I was quite thrilled. Get right

into it. You start, Harry, with what you're talking

about today. OK. I'm going to pick Bakhan 07

Alpha Trion, which is a remold of Cybertron.

Why did I just have it? It's Cybertron Vector

Prime. He's mostly in purple with some white

arms and thighs and kind of like maroon accents.

Very good repaint of the mold as always BotCon

toys do a great job of detail I'm not a huge

fan of the cyber key toys, but on this one It

doesn't really hinder anything and you can store

the key right in front of his chest It's like

all gold says like a gold chest He's not too

detailed with apps on the body, but he's got

more paint than say the regular version you would

get from Cybertron I love this guy just because

I've always wanted an alpha try on toy and it's

not my favorite mole choice I mean, it's very

easy to transform. There's nothing special to

it She's kind of flips and folds and very simple,

but yet satisfying the mini con he comes with

I forget the name of his mini con, but it's very

detailed It's got like some gold detailing on

it. It's you know, again the bot con toys really

leave nothing When it comes to that the detailing

of the paint apps and all His face is nice. He's

got he's got the same Face as you see in g1.

He's got a really detailed face sculpts got the

blue eyes the white face the white beard Kind

of hard to see the beard, but it is goatee I'm

really not sure what he goes for on eBay anymore

from the 07 set $200 really? Yeah, he's so yeah

Yeah, he's an awesome figure. I mean, I'm really

glad I was able to get that set and go to that

show. But yeah, he's pretty good. I would definitely

recommend him if you can afford him. What else

does he come with? Doesn't he come with a vector

sigma thing? No, that's a separate piece, the

little vector sigma with the key. Oh, that was

kind of a dingus. No, I just realized, I don't

know where. It would have gotten lost. I don't

know where it's gone. Hopefully, it didn't get

vacuumed up. I just realized that my Botcom Springer,

those little guns on the front of his car that

flip out, those little green guns, one of them

has popped off. And it's gone. Oh, I'm going

to kill somebody. Well, not really kill somebody.

I don't think it's anybody's fault. I don't know

where it would have gone. Now, I'm going to.

You all keep talking. I'll talk in a minute.

It was pictured on the BotCon website that the

Vector Sigma thing came with him. No, that was

a separate piece. No, that was a separate piece,

yeah. Really? It was like $10 or $15 extra. Oh,

I thought it came with him. Oh, man. It is gone.

Uh -oh. Well. It's lost amongst all the other

toys. Starship Megan. You'll find it. You'll

find it. I better. Which I Definitely like his

robot mode better I mean, you know that the cyber

jet plane thing that he turns into is okay and

all but I mean you guys You buy this guy for

his robot mode you buy him because these alpha

try on you know Universe classics 2 .0 also had

a repaint of this mold as vector prime and kind

of a brown and red scheme And really care for

that scheme, but that's another version of this

if you weren't around for Cybertron you might

have seen the You know the classics version or

the universe version of vector prime. That's

that same mold. It's just almost everything is

purple With the crimson trim. I think it's a

really nice figure. The cyber key is all gold

So when you put it in his chest, I guess a gold

chest. It's not just a regular key, you know,

it's like painted all gold Yeah, I've always

liked that figure. That's probably one of the

very few that I would ever get from the 07 set.

I mean, I would go as far as to say with just

the robot design. I mean, I fold the wings kind

of back to the side so you can't see them. Just

as you could even display this with your G1 collection.

I mean, I just play it with my classics. But

I mean, if you wanted to, if you wanted an Alpha

Trion, this would be a good. It's a good size.

I mean, it's tall. I'd say for a G1 comparison,

he's almost as tall as Galvatron. I mean, he's

a pretty big toy. It's a Voyager size and a Cybertron.

But I mean, he's a pretty decent sized robot.

I'd say a good eight or nine inches tall. You

know, he stands up well with the other bots So

if you get him and you don't have a classics

collection, you may want to put them with the

g1 He goes well with g1. The only problem with

this figure and this goes with all the figures

that use that mold Is the plastic on the see

-through sword? He comes with a purple translucent

sword vector prime comes with like a blue one

and whatever whatever one you get comes with

translucent sword. And to keep it translucent,

it's very thin plastic. So it has a tendency

to kind of bend down a certain way. Even when

you're just standing there posing, it'll start

to move and kind of go limp, if you will. But

other than that, that's a really small problem.

You can just turn it around, and it'll bend back

to shape. Other than that, I have no issues with

the mold. If he was $200 on eBay, I probably

wouldn't be able to get him. But if you're able

to afford him, if that's what he goes for, I'd

say he's worth it if you can afford it. I mean,

you know, just for the G1 likeness and all, and

he's the only Alpha Trion toy that we have. So

that's pretty much my thoughts on it. Yeah, and

he's currently featured in the Clocomic. Yes,

yes. He's kind of the evil shattered glass Alpha

Trion, but he did end up becoming a part of that

fiction. Yep. Yes, next Ben. What are you picking?

I have got picked up from the same year. I got

the 2007 Springer mm -hmm which is a repaint

of a the Cybertron defense a hotshot I believe

And he's an awesome figure if he has all his

pieces. I really like him The guns got to be

here somewhere But I really like him like one

of the things that I liked about it was like

So for so many years like whenever they did any

sort and they weren't many but whenever they

did a Springer tribute it was always a helicopter

and And they finally gave him like his armored

car mode, which I thought was cool And I thought

his I thought the hot shot mold was a nice representation

of kind of his futuristic armored car mode And

I remember at the time when they were first holding

up the bags and talking about them Brian Savage

was talking about how like this was the first

time, they may have had some since then, but

this was like the most paint apps they had ever

done on a figure up to that point and it really

really shows, the paint apps are really nice

on it. I love how he's got like, he definitely

feels like a record to me, like I love how he's

got a sword and like pop out missile launchers

on his legs and his shoulders and then the guns

on top of his shoulders and then the guns that

can flip up next to his head and then you...

plug in the cyber key and then they pop up in

the missile launchers I mean like he definitely

feels like he could kick a lot of ass so yeah

I really really like him definitely and he's

definitely worth picking up yeah not for me everybody

that knows everybody that's listened to the TFG1

podcast knows how much I hate not even not just

the toy but the character itself something that

I pick up but I'm there enough I mean, I saw

your YouTube video on him, and he does look really,

really cool. Yeah, I've never had a huge love

for Springer, but I've never disliked him either.

I thought it would have been a really nice homage

to the character and a really good representation

of him. Let's see. I guess we'll get on to my

pick. I'm going to be talking about Shattered

Blast. And again, this was another toy that a

YouTube review made me go out and buy or go out

and seek out which was yours. You've made me

buy two BotCon toys you bastard. I hear that

so often nowadays like it doesn't even register

anymore. One thing that you said in your review

that I have to kind of disagree you had mentioned

that don't like the fact that the till -all -are

-gone is blazing all over. over the hood of the

cab. I don't. I took some alcohol and rubbed

mine off. Wow. I would never do that. But anyway,

I do like it there, because there really isn't

any other place to put it. I mean, if they put

it across the windshield, it would be even worse.

It's not so much that it's there on the roof.

I just didn't like it on his car. I loved it

as the slogan, as the alternate universe slogan.

I thought that was kind of cool. It just doesn't

seem, even the Prime they set up in that universe

does not seem to be like the guy who'd be like,

I'm gonna write this on my gun because I'm a

jackass. You know, like I just didn't get it.

Yeah. This is to be my, probably outside of G1

Prime, this is going to be my favorite Optimist

that I've ever had. And you know, as everybody

knows, I had just started collecting all this

stuff about half ago. But when I first got him

I was like, oh heck yeah, and you know, I hadn't

gotten into classics yet Which I'm actually starting

to get into now but the paint scheme on him is

just super awesome like With the bumper how it

kind of like the green that matches the headlights

The headlights in the bumper on the truck mode

don't really do it for me just because there's

they're not that detailed I mean there's there's

like light teal on the side of them, but a pot

conversion The entire headlight is colored in

green and then of course you have the shattered

glass windshield which is a really awesome touch

that they did And the robot mode is just awesome.

I like how they used the smoke stacks. Because

a majority of the Optimus Prime toys that I know

outside of maybe Masterpiece, the arms open up

and the smoke stacks are on his arms. So it wasn't

really cartoonish. This, you could do it either

way. You can use it as a gunner. It's very much

so thoughts on the Optimus Prime I Used to have

them I sold them with my set kind of regretted

actually, I mean I kind of wish I still had it

but I needed the money at the time, so I had

to sell it. I know how that goes. Yeah, he's

a very cool toy. I mean, you know, whether or

not you like the logo on there, I think he's

one of the better primes. I love all... One of

the things like we've all said on our BotCon

toys about the paint apps, and I think that goes

without saying for all of them. They just put

that little extra bit of detail in there. You

know, yeah, they do charge you a lot more and

stuff like that, but I mean... You get really

nice figures, even if they're not characters

you like or whatever. Just the Bakhan figures

themselves just get really that extra level of

detail that I think it goes a long way, you know?

Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. A lot of people give fun

publications crap for like, oh, I can't believe

they did Thundercracker or all this stuff. But

they really do put, even the sets that I'm not

big on, they at least really do put a lot of

thought into what characters are doing and how

the paint apps are going to be laid out and making

nice figures. Even this year set which I wasn't

real big on I can't really argue against any

of what they did with the toys I thought they

did a really good job with them, right? I think

they kind of used what they had to use for now

Yes, speaking of Bokan toys just a little speculation

on my part. I hope we see some animated That

would be awesome happen but they can't use the

movie toys. What else are they gonna use? I'm

sure we'll get some animated toys at some point

I was honestly like when they announced this

year set like the theme board I was really hoping

we were gonna get animated molds because like

I said, I could definitely see a cup from the

Cybertron deluxe prime I could see animated molds

for every character they mentioned and I'm like

that would be awesome and then we got you know,

the old energon stuff Yeah So, I mean they could

stick to either still the Cybertron repaints

or they could do animated because That's all

they really have to work with. I just don't want

to see any more repaints out of any more of those

toys. I think they've kind of pushed that to

its limit. Yeah. I mean, what else can they possibly

milk out of there? I'm sure there's a few, but

I'd love to see an animated base set. But then

again, some people say those weren't too high

with collectors, the animated series toys. So

it's kind of a 50 -50. You hate it or love it.

You know what I mean? So I don't know. If they

were BotCon toys, they'd sell. I mean. Oh, yeah.

They have no problem selling out their sets every

year. And the other thing, like. I guess it's

like the auto. Yeah, that's not me. The AutoCot

symbols in the truck mode, the purple ones on

his doors. You know just looking at it now for

a second there. I almost thought that the paint

was was messed up, but it's not it's painted

to look like it's Like it's dinged up. Yeah,

yeah, and that's you know again. You know you

say over and over and over again how Bot con

toys are and it's just true I mean Super super

some the only problem with the classics optimus

prime mold is the arms Cuz you know as I said

in the last episode it took me three weeks and

After when I finally sat down to try to actually

figure out how to get him back into truck mode

It took me about 45 minutes to do so and my main

issue is trying to get the doors back into place

Once you you know turn turn the arms back in

and that and that was my issue with it And it's

still my issue with it Cuz I just got Nemesis

and I had I had the same problem, so I don't

know if it's me if I'm just not doing it right

or what the deal is but yeah that was the only

real issue I had with him and if I ever do get

a another shattered glass optimus he is staying

in truck mode what else would you guys like to

talk about I don't I mean I don't want to make

this a long long episode but it's not I want

to make it like super short either guys have

any topics you would like to discuss Not off

the top of my head. I'd like to discuss where

my gun went. I'm telling you. I know where it

probably went. All Niblett's little secret friends

probably stole it from yesterday. No, no, no.

He's up on a... If it fell off, it fell off before

it went up on the high shelf. Because ever since

I moved everything up to... shelves above the

computer nothing's fallen but but he did used

to be over here on the shelf where she could

reach him over he fell over a few times and like

it may gone behind that shelf I just I don't

have a flashlight right now I'm trying to see

what I can see I did just want while I was looking

for it although I did just find stealth lockdowns

EMP behind the computer desk so that's something

I didn't even know was missing it's found so

that's a bonus I guess If you lose one thing,

you find another. Yeah, tell me about it. Yeah,

I guess I can kind of talk about, I mean, since

it kind of talks about BotCon, but it ties into

just Transformers and comics in general, I get

that in the mail I receive the animated movie,

the 86 movie adaptation book. I don't know, I

mean, I like the art in it. story some lines

are changed yeah you have any topics you would

like to bring up mr. optimist scourge It's been,

like I said, it's been a slow week for me. I'm

kind of feeling a little bit bleh. So. Yeah,

I can't think of really anything. Nothing really

big happened this week, I don't think. No. I'm

still waiting on my order from HTS for my STCC

exclusives, so. Yeah, I was looking at that sound

wave. I may get him eventually. It's got one

cassette deck. It's the G1 sound wave with the

one deck. Yeah, I've been looking at it too.

I want that back. I had seen pictures of both

the Toys R Us version with the double chest to

the regular one. I didn't know. And then my buddy

got the two -day shipping from HTS. He's like,

oh, no, it's a single chest. I'm like, nice.

So you don't like the double chest? No, I don't

like it either. Well, because it's not really

Soundwave. That mold got used so much that they

had to open up the chest cavity a little more

to make it work. And they made Sound Blaster

out of it back when. And that's how they made

the Sound Blaster reissue. And the Toys R Us

blue. It's a blue Sound Blaster. It's not really

Soundwave's mold. I like the ability to hold

two tapes. But I want Ratbat. And right now,

that San Diego Soundwave comes with Soundwave

and four cassettes, including Ratbat. Where if

I buy that big collection, big mission cassette

set, it's like, five to ten bucks more, and you

only get four cassettes. Oh, you do get Slugfest.

That's tempting. But I mean, like, the only sound

wave I have on display with my classics is the

music label one. He fits right in. So, oh well.

Especially with the repro labels on him. Yeah.
