Geekcast Radio Network. Please visit geekcastradio

.com. In this third episode I have Optimus Scourge

or Gary with me. Hello. How's it going? It's

going good. What's up, all? Nothing. I still

haven't seen the movie yet I may go tomorrow.

I don't know it just depends on What the weather's

like? Yeah, I saw the midnight launch last night

and I saw the Saw the matinee today. It's an

unbelievable movie good plot It did it did move

the long very well, and I don't want to spoil

too much But very good highly recommended it

a lot a lot better than people were thinking

it was gonna be and trying to hate it Ended up

coming out pretty good I mean there was some

stuff that obviously you're gonna either like

or dislike But I mean that's gonna be the way

it is with anything, but all in all I think it

was a fantastic movie, and I'm gonna go see it

again That's about it cool cool well today we

were originally we're supposed to have for a

man on with us we don't know where he is uh...

hopefully everything's are maybe you want to

go see the movie again they don't know uh...

the theme of this episode was going to be g one

uh... and we're going to i'm gonna talk about

sound wave and blaster both but mainly sound

wave and who are you talking about g one jetfire

that movie character That's right And at the

end of this stay tuned for the contest details

geek cast radio networks first contest, which

we will do at the end of the show So why don't

you go first? Well G1 jetfire, which is also

Was originally a toy made by well Matsushiro

originally made the toy but then Bandai bought

them out when they created the Maycross saga

over there in Japan, which we know is Robotech

here in the US. That's why the toy in the show

or I should say the character in the show of

Skyfire had to be called that and had to be looked

like that, similar but different, like more futuristic

because of the anime that already existed. And

obviously the right holders to Robotech were

not going to let Hasbro used their product so

they let them make the toy they changed the nose

cone to be rounded off as Where the Japanese

board version was pointed and stuff like that,

but Jetfire for me was my first transformer for

Christmas in 1984 and I remember him having a

Maycross symbol on his wing even though at that

time I did not know what that meant until I saw

Robotech and I'm like why does he have that and

I didn't find out until much later what it was

a Matsushiro or Jetfire before Bandai bought

them out. They had the contract and the box has

the trademark on the box instead of the circled

registered logo so you could tell it's from 84,

a pre -rub. Anyways He's just such a solid toy

and even to this day. He really stands up to

the test of time I mean you could drop them.

I mean he you know, he wouldn't break. I mean,

he's very solid toy I mean sometimes the shoulders

break if you're really, you know rough with it,

but I mean I still I still have one that's beaten

done and it's like all the joints click really

solid like it's brand new I mean some of the

best joints in the toy robot ever made or in

those you know vf1s style bandai mold jetfire

mold i mean and for me what happened was i wanted

optimist prime probably like every other kid

in 1984 wanted so my dad probably waited it a

little bit too long to try and get him or maybe

he didn't i don't know the demand was probably

crazy though and they probably had no idea and

they were sold out, you know, way before Christmas

and, you know, it was hit or miss if you got

one. So he couldn't find one, so he got me Jetfire.

So at first I was disappointed, but my God, after

having that thing for a couple of days and all

the accessories, all the play options, the playability

of that toy, just without the armor as an F -14,

I mean, he was an F -14, you know? Really? I

mean he was a basically a sky striker from GI

Joe if you're GI Joe Finn You know it and I've

seen people paint them into those really cool.

I wouldn't personally Maybe I would if I had

a free if free jetfire But the price they go

for I wouldn't do it to it So I hold jet fired

near and dear to my heart and next to prime Megatron

and iron hide G1 Matsushiro jetfire minted box

unused on applied is my only box G1 toy that

I have other than the main ones The only reason

I buy and hide is because it's signed by Peter

Cullen Very very cool Yeah, I I didn't as far

as when I got into them it was after the cartoon

was airing and I saw the toys and I did have

an original 84 prime Back when I was a kid, I

died and I have one now. I bought him off of

you Do you have a pre rub prime when you were

a kid? I don't think so. I think I had the the

original Well, no 84 and 85 were the same primes

they and actually 86 was a mail away You could

mail away robot points in 86 for mirage red alert.

I mean a lot of them, right? I never really like

I Since obviously I do TFG1 podcast and I'm reviewing

the entire original show I did like sky fire

in the cartoon. I thought it was really funny

I think it was the and I know this is a little

bit off -topic but in the Aztec episode where

they're around the temple He's like, you know,

I'm too darn big to be sneaking around like this

and I mean, you know He's huge in the cartoon.

I can imagine how tall that toy I will say this

for the character I'm not a huge fan of the character

of the G1 Skyfire. It was okay. But I really

liked the toy. A lot more affection to just the

toy. Because I honestly didn't know him much

from the show. He wasn't in the first season.

He was like one episode maybe. He didn't look

like he should so I think that made me upset

and I didn't know why he didn't look right And

I said that's not Jeff fire. Who's that guy?

It was it was more kind of that reaction to me

I think right if I remember correctly how tall

is the toy? I mean like what what's the size

class? He's about Masterpiece prime tall maybe

maybe a half head shorter Okay, or so roughly

very very cool He might be about 11 inches, I

think. Maybe 12 though. He's very good and bulky.

Very solid. I mean, man, you could throw it at

the wall. If it has armor on, you'd break the

armor. It's one solid toy. Do you have any other

thoughts on him? Before I move on to mine? Can

I edit out that bang? Probably not, but it's

alright. You know, shit happens. Other stuff

happened, sorry. Do you have any final thoughts

on Jetfire? I would say that if you're in the

market for a Jetfire, don't try and get one incomplete

to part him. You can buy the parts, but so many

people, when they sell their Jetfires, they sell

the Jetfire by itself, and they sell every single

other part separately and end up making would

say two -thirds to what to twice the value of

what he should be worth and If you buy him complete

even if it's a hundred and twenty five Dollars

or a hundred dollars whatever it is if you've

got a nice jet fire complete the gun clip is

Useless yes, you can put the gun on his jet mode,

but why would you do it? I mean yeah, it does

hold it there, but I mean I I have my gun clip,

but I've never used it when I was a kid That

was probably one of the first things I lost on

my original hmm, but it was the first one the

first toy I got I end up did get in prime later

on for my birthday or whatever but Anyways, yeah

jetfire was was pretty much it for me and when

he's what started the Transformers and I had

already seen the show before I got the toy Obviously

it came out in this, you know the spring or the

summer the show So I probably had Bumblebee and

Ravage and Rumble or Laser, no, who was it? Laser

Beak and Frenzy or whoever it was. I forget what

the package was and I had the cassettes because

they were cheap. I don't know if the constructive

cons were out yet. When they first came out,

they weren't out till later in the year. Yeah,

I'm not really sure. So we're going to move on

to my pick and here's our transition between

picks. So I'm going to talk about G1 Soundwave.

I'm also going to mention G1 Blaster, but I'm

not going to go into great detail about him.

G1 Soundwave, I always liked him. I always liked

the toy. Obviously, I liked the character in

the cartoon and the movie. It was really, really

cool that you had a cassette deck as a robot.

And the toy, the toy is just... For me, the G1

version is amazing. I believe he's plastic and

metal. I believe his feet are metal, and the

rest of him is plastic. He's extremely show accurate.

There really isn't that much that isn't accurate

on him, I don't think. And I really, really liked

it because you could act out. You know you could

act out the cartoon with your toys Yeah, oh,

yeah, I would sit there in front of the TV, and

I would set up my and God forbid I say this,

but if you grew up in the 80s and you did not

have GoBots, I mean, I'm sure some of you didn't,

but everybody had GoBots too, because they were

Transformers to a lot of us. They weren't official,

they weren't Transformers to me. They were like

the Kmart Transformers, as like a famous movie

once said, clerks for the win. But yeah, I mean,

I had Leader One, I had Scooter, I had Shooter,

I had a lot of those guys because my mom was

going to get me the $1 .99 one versus the $2

.99 one. It was that simple. They were a ripoff.

They didn't have the design team that we had

from Japan. They didn't have these diet clone

designers, and I've heard some interesting things,

not to kind of make it into another segue of

a different character, but Starscream, for example,

like the same guy from Japan has designed every

single Starscream toy. Well, that's cool. I mean,

that's kind of interesting knowledge. Like you

would never think that that would, you would

think that someone else was employed, but Takara

and now Tommy still has the same people there

that have been there forever. I mean, guys like

Aaron Archer from Hasbro, he's been there for

a long time. I mean, he was there before the

fandom is what it is. I mean, he's the ultimate

cool guy. And the coolest thing I like about

him is I don't really know him personally, but

he hangs out with our group at BotCon. And if

you come to BotCon and you want to hang out with

TFW, we're going to welcome everyone. We like

to have fun and go party. Not that we're animals,

but when you're at a show, you're there to meet

people and engage in the love of Transformers

and have fun. And that's what shows like BotCon

and TFCon are all about. Oh, yeah. highly promote

either one of them. TFCon is even to a more extent

on a fan level, very nice and relaxed. BotCon's

gotten crazy because of the popularity. Transformers

in the last two years has gone from who you like

what to yeah, I love Transformers. I mean, half

the theater was fans. All right, maybe a third

was fans with t -shirts, but I mean. You know,

it was all teenage kids in there when I went

to the midnight showing. There were some fans,

you know, like I said, but I was that guy, you

know what I mean? Oh, yes. They're by myself

with Human Alliance Bumblebee in the cup holder.

Watch it. I got a twit pic. Yeah, you do. Follow

me on Twitter at Gary Clark. Gary underscore

Clark 01. Gary underscore Clark oh one that is

yes. Um, you could pass go but you collect two

hundred dollars Going back to some wave a little

bit. I'm looking at a picture I took when I first

got him when I was living in my old apartment

I have him in robot mode and I have buzz saw

with buzz saws little metal guns on the time

that on the like poked into his holes Wow, that

didn't sound right. I've got Buzzsaw on Soundwave.

I've got Buzzsaw on top of Soundwave on his shoulder,

like where his blue mount is supposed to go,

his sound projector mount. This is like when

I first got the thing, when I first bought it

from eBay. And it looks super, super cool. Another

image that I have of him, it's not very clear

because I was still using my iPhone 2G at the

time, but it's an up close shot of him with his

the aforementioned sound thing, like the thing

that plugs into his shoulder. It just amazes

me, even though most of the G1 toys are brickformers

for the most part, they're bricks, Some of them,

like Soundwave and like AstroTrain and stuff

like that, they're fairly decent and they're

very show accurate. I was surprised how show

accurate Soundwave is. I think the only problem

with Soundwave and Blaster is the mechanics for

the arms because there is a metal bar going through

the top. Part of the of the torso on the shoulders

And I understand they needed to put that in there

in order for the arms to move and to rotate But

I think that is the only downside for me on both

blaster and sound wave And of course, it's just

cool to have I mean back then and even now it's

just cool to have But because what looks like

a cassette deck people like oh cool used to love

a cassette deck. Oh, no, just wait This is sound

wave transform him and then all of a sudden you

have you know You have sound wave with his his

you know menagerie of cassettes. I Mean it was

just it was just super awesome The same thing

with blaster. I loved blast. I I think when I

was a kid blaster and sound wave were mine Tied

for number one as far as my favorite toys just

because they were both cassette decks They were

both different cassettes because blaster is more

boombox type and sound waves more of just a regular

Cassette player and then you have all the cassettes

that go with them Don't know why the hell rumble

is red, but anyway Well, no, that was a mistake

There is a huge You know what I'm talking about

anyways and You know They made a mistake on the

card when they made the cards and they made them

at the same time and they miss pack them and

Hasbro chose to not undo it because the cost

to remake a package back then when they were

making toys, because they had to make these toys

before the show, they had to design them, they

had to have the packaging. Basically a year to

two years before anything comes out, they've

got it already all planned out. They have to.

they have to. I mean we don't necessarily know

it to it unless you go to BotCon. You know about

a year what's coming out. We know from BotCon

basically what's coming out up until next summer.

We know classics are coming back which for me

is great and which for me I think this movie

whether you like it or not No offense to anyone

that dislikes that you are entitled to your opinion

and that I don't post much in movie forums or

hate or love the movie. I post on Twitter that

I think it's a great movie. It has its flaws,

but like any other movie, some are considered

flawless, like maybe Goodfellas or something

like that. yeah, but anyway back to toys yeah,

just I Gotta say with classics jetfire I really

like the you know going on to the same toy and

now that he's in the movie and talking about

classics toys just You know, I still think the

g1 toy holds up I mean you could take there is

no masterpiece jetfire if you were gonna make

one you'd make one out of a You know one of the

make cross toys the big ones the 160 right? Yeah

No, the 144s. I forget what that would know.

I'm not sure what size they are Okay, I'm not

sure what size the big ones are but there's huge

ones that are like way bigger than masterpiece

prime They're huge those make for awesome masterpiece

jet fires But you could put a regular g1 jet

fire next to masterpiece prime and he's gonna

look like He's your Autobot regular jet fire.

I mean he can go on that chef If you only collect

masterpieces and classics, for example, and maybe

else like a lot of people do then You don't have

the money for g1 or you only have a few or something

you like or whatever you think the bricks that

that's that's fine, too If you didn't grow up

on it, you don't have the love for them. I keep

mine in a glass case I don't play with them that

much. I mean, I honestly take them out once in

a while for picture opportunities, but that's

it Yeah, they're on display and they're sealed.

They're sealed away from dust. So Yeah, I mean

I'm the same way won't you know once I start

You know getting on my feet a little bit more.

I'm gonna end up making my second bedroom into

my entire it'll be an entire display room I I

need to start getting into the classics line.

I like how a lot of them look And you know, I

I think they're good representations of what

the g1 line was for the most part I would love

to have a masterpiece prime. I don't I would

love to unfortunately cost way too damn much

Right now But you know getting back to the pics

of today's episode just you know If you were

for me, you know Just my own personal opinion

if you're if you're a g1 fan and you're wanting

to get back into collecting Get you know try

to find Blaster and soundwave, but that's just

my opinion. I I think they're two of the best

toys out of the entire g1 line I am crap Well,

what I said was for me, I think that blaster

and sound wave were two of the best toys out

of the G1 line so All right, we are going to

move on I guess and taking us out of the toys

will be sound wave And now details on geek cast

Do you have any final thoughts or do you want

to talk about anything else? Well, I don't usually

endorse KOs, but if one wanted to and I understand

the economy is terrible I'm out of a job myself.

So I understand how people feel about buying

a G1 jetfire. I'm lucky enough to have one from

a long time ago that I got before they were worth

anything, what they're worth now. I got my stuff

10 years ago. I was completing stuff like MicroMasters

and Pretenders and stuff like that the last few

years. I collected all the valuable, good stuff

early. you know so not as early as like beast

wars early like uh protoman but um which uh hey

protoman how you doing man yeah yeah protoman

has gone missing i think rodimus prime stole

him that's okay he might have gotten gone into

the matrix uh i'm not sure if he went into the

matrix but i know one person that did do not

grieve soon And I Can't talk I just want to let

everyone know that if you do win the contest

I did open the DVD set only because I wanted

to watch the special features I only watched

it once the discs are in perfect condition. They

come with all the inserts it comes with the magnet,

you know, so You know, good luck to everybody

on the contest. I will read the question one

more time. If you can tell us how many voice

actors have played Optimus Prime in the US cartoons

and video games and who those voice actors are,

you'll win a copy of Shout Factory's Transformers

25th Anniversary Season 1 DVD set. You can email

All right, Toycast is not over, ladies and gentlemen.

We are doing a really quick clip because I forgot

to mention within the episode that Stan Bush

emailed me today and he wanted me to announce

the press release for the Touch Sam's Theme.

Email says, hey Mike, I wanted to send you this

press release. Hopefully you can announce it.

The Touch Sam's Theme is up. The music video

of the song has gotten over a hundred and fifty

thousand plays. A lot of people have been asking

if the song is available on iTunes. Since Transformers

2 Revenge of the Fallen is just released, the

timing is perfect. Praised as the world -class

singer, Stan Bush is best known for his song

The Touch featured in the Transformers movie.

an anthem for Transformers fans around the world.

The Touch has just been re -released as a download

for Guitar Hero World Tour on May 29, 2009. Stan

was the featured artist at Transformers Convention

BotCon at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. Also,

Hasbro has just released two new Transformers

2 Revenge of the Fallen toys featuring The Touch.

The touch is available on Stan's latest album

in this life named album of the year for 2007

Take care and thanks Stan He did email me again.

I'm gonna have to check it really quick Because

I don't have what the toys are where the touch

is featured. So let me pull that up really really

quick I think it's really cool that that I actually

have an email relationship with Stan Bush. I

mean Christ, it's awesome I'd like to give a

personal shout out to Mr. Stan Bush, if I may.

I met you at BotCon 2007. We hung out at that

bar at all times in the morning with the Hasbro

reps and everything at BotCon 07. We rocked out

at your party. We got thrashed and had a blast

to you someday. Big fan, love your stuff, and

take care, man. Good luck. Yeah, and the toys
